Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Dude, they said I gotta come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cane Studio.
- 0:32Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in OTB.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Jake, Flynn, Alondra, Tay-Tay all here with you in the
- 0:40Speaker 2: Raising Cane studio.
- 1:07Speaker 5: We take a look at LSU versus Mississippi State.
- 1:10Speaker 6: It's coming up at 11 a.m.
- 1:12Speaker 3: On Saturday.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Right now, ESPN matchup predictor gives LSU a 76.8% chance
- 1:20Speaker 5: to win the game. We've talked about the spread all
- 1:23Speaker 5: week long. It's up to 14 and a half. There's
- 1:27Speaker 5: now a hook on that 14. It opened up at
- 1:30Speaker 5: 12 and a half. So a lot of us are
- 1:32Speaker 5: coming to the conclusion that points to Las Vegas thinking
- 1:36Speaker 5: Camario Taylor is going to be out for the game. Now,
- 1:39Speaker 5: Fluff Bothwell, we don't know if he's going to be
- 1:41Speaker 5: out as well. They were both on the injury report,
- 1:44Speaker 5: and they were questionable. And if I'm Mississippi State, there
- 1:47Speaker 5: is no way that I'm giving any information outside of questionable.
- 1:53Speaker 5: I am making LSU prepare for Taylor and Bothwell, and
- 1:57Speaker 5: we'll see if they end up playing again with this
- 1:59Speaker 5: number being what it is. Because let's not forget, Mississippi
- 2:03Speaker 5: State's number 16.
- 2:04Speaker 6: In the country. LSU's 22nd in the country.
- 2:08Speaker 5: The only reason this would be anywhere close to where
- 2:11Speaker 5: the line is is they believe that Kamario Taylor is
- 2:14Speaker 5: not going to play in this game. Now, if he
- 2:16Speaker 5: does play, then the question turns to, okay, well, what
- 2:21Speaker 5: is his health? Can he be the guy that he's
- 2:24Speaker 5: been for them so far? Because we talked about it yesterday,
- 2:27Speaker 5: 17 touchdown passes already.
- 2:31Speaker 6: He has been an electric player to watch effortlessly.
- 2:35Speaker 7: Effortlessly is a great word, man. His footwork's really good.
- 2:41Speaker 7: He just looks frustratingly, especially for a young guy, 19
- 2:46Speaker 7: years old.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 2:47Speaker 7: Except for frustratingly poised in the pocket. So if he
- 2:51Speaker 7: doesn't play, that's a huge blow. I was looking at
- 2:54Speaker 7: the stats yesterday because I was getting things ready for
- 2:56Speaker 7: a slide, which is still working on.
- 2:59Speaker 3: He is leading.
- 3:01Speaker 7: he's number three in the country and played one less
- 3:04Speaker 7: game than most people. Number three in the country and
- 3:06Speaker 7: passing touchdowns at 17, number one in the sec.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah. And he's played one less game than people.
- 3:12Speaker 6: He's eight. The schedule that they've played too.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:15Speaker 5: They've already played, you know, Alabama, Missouri, South Carolina, Minnesota
- 3:19Speaker 5: on the road was one of their games.
- 3:21Speaker 6: So like, I'm not saying this was big 10 school.
- 3:23Speaker 6: You went on the road. Like the only game that.
- 3:25Speaker 5: You've played, that is like money game is Louisiana Monroe.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:30Speaker 7: He's, He's fifth in the country points responsible for, which
- 3:33Speaker 7: is 114 points. He's responsible for 114 points. That's number
- 3:37Speaker 7: one in the SEC. Eighth, number one in the SEC
- 3:41Speaker 7: in passing yards per game at averaging 290. Pass efficiency,
- 3:47Speaker 7: 11th in the country, second in the SEC. Passing yards, again,
- 3:51Speaker 7: this is one less game than everybody. 24th in the country,
- 3:54Speaker 7: third in the SEC in passing yards per game.
- 3:56Speaker 3: So, like, when... I say he's effortless. He's effortless.
- 4:00Speaker 7: But he's also getting the option to throw it a lot.
- 4:03Speaker 7: A stat that shocked me yesterday I was looking at
- 4:06Speaker 7: was year to date, Mississippi State has run 381 total
- 4:12Speaker 7: plays on offense.
- 4:12Speaker 1: 381.
- 4:12Speaker 7: 168 of those plays have been RPOs. 168, by far,
- 4:15Speaker 7: number one in the country in the FBS. 168, so
- 4:29Speaker 7: 44% of your off, every time the center snaps the ball,
- 4:34Speaker 7: has a run pass option to it.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That was a shocking stat to me.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 7: I don't have LSU's percentage to compare it. I can
- 4:43Speaker 7: get that, but that was wild behavior. Yeah, so their
- 4:47Speaker 7: offense is built around it. And based on that, 113
- 4:49Speaker 7: of those have been runs. 55 of those passes. So
- 4:54Speaker 7: it's not like they're just necessarily passing all the time.
- 4:57Speaker 7: It is truly run, pass, option. Run first, pass second.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Which we talk about all the time on Eye in
- 5:03Speaker 5: the Sky when we're breaking down film.
- 5:05Speaker 6: We pointed out the R portion comes first. It is
- 5:08Speaker 6: a run option. And if the count's right, what do
- 5:11Speaker 6: you do, Matt?
- 5:12Speaker 7: If the count's right, you run the ball. You run it,
- 5:13Speaker 7: you run it, you run it, you run it until
- 5:15Speaker 7: they take the run away. And then you throw it
- 5:18Speaker 7: as an answer for that. Just so you don't create
- 5:21Speaker 7: a negative play, but... Total on the season, they have
- 5:24Speaker 7: 161 runs. So 42% of their, all of their offensive
- 5:28Speaker 7: plays have been a run. 113 of those 161 runs
- 5:33Speaker 7: have come off of RPO. So there's not, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 7: the majority of times they run it is through an RPO.
- 5:38Speaker 7: About a third of the time they are lining up
- 5:40Speaker 7: and actually just handing it off on a run that
- 5:43Speaker 7: doesn't have an option. And probably a lot of that
- 5:46Speaker 7: is QB scrambles. A lot of that is probably, um,
- 5:51Speaker 7: short yardage goal line situations where they're just calling it
- 5:54Speaker 7: and running it.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 7: And I don't know what they call a QB scramble.
- 5:57Speaker 7: They can't call it an RPO. I mean, it's not
- 6:00Speaker 7: an RPO.
- 6:01Speaker 1: No.
- 6:02Speaker 3: It's an OB. He tried to pass and now I'm
- 6:04Speaker 3: going to run.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:05Speaker 7: And obviously he's got a lot of those as well. Anyway,
- 6:10Speaker 7: I found that very interesting. That is, and I was,
- 6:13Speaker 7: I haven't been, I told.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Y'all yesterday was a day.
- 6:15Speaker 7: I didn't get to like jump in the film room
- 6:17Speaker 7: as much as I wanted to yesterday and watch Mississippi state,
- 6:19Speaker 7: but I've watched a few drives of theirs. And I
- 6:21Speaker 7: was like, man, they're really starting out funny. Like every
- 6:24Speaker 7: single one of these plays is an RPO. Every single one. Well,
- 6:27Speaker 7: it checks out the entire season. It's 44% of every
- 6:31Speaker 7: single snap they've run on offense has been a run
- 6:34Speaker 7: pass option.
- 6:36Speaker 3: It's wild behavior. Shocking stat.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It is.
- 6:43Speaker 6: I mean, that just tells me that that's what they're all.
- 6:45Speaker 7: If you would have told me somebody was 20%, I
- 6:47Speaker 7: would have been like, that's a lot.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 3: They're 44%.
- 6:52Speaker 5: But I'll be honest with you. Like when I hear that,
- 6:56Speaker 5: but I know what they're trying to get done. I
- 6:57Speaker 5: don't even mind it. Remember last year, LSU offensively was
- 7:02Speaker 5: running some RPOs, but there was like no threat of
- 7:06Speaker 5: like Garrett keeping it like that, that portion of it.
- 7:10Speaker 5: And it really felt like, well, I know, but I'm
- 7:12Speaker 5: saying like to the defense, the defense doesn't know that
- 7:15Speaker 5: it's a straight RPO. They like, With Kamario Taylor, you
- 7:19Speaker 5: have to worry about zone read, too. You know what
- 7:20Speaker 5: I'm saying?
- 7:21Speaker 6: Does that make sense?
- 7:21Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 7:22Speaker 5: So, like, they don't know what it is. Now, you
- 7:24Speaker 5: do watching the film. But, like, that's an added layer.
- 7:28Speaker 5: For me, if I'm a defender, like, that's an added layer. Now,
- 7:31Speaker 5: I know they run RPOs because I have tape, and
- 7:33Speaker 5: we do it. But I'm like, man, if Kamario pulls
- 7:35Speaker 5: that thing at first when you think, could this.
- 7:37Speaker 6: Be a zone read?
- 7:39Speaker 5: But, like, that's what you add to running RPOs. Like,
- 7:43Speaker 5: you add another layer to it. So, if you have
- 7:45Speaker 5: a guy that can't, do that, then you can take
- 7:48Speaker 5: something off the board. You can just focus in on that.
- 7:51Speaker 5: When LSU did it, it was like, okay, this is
- 7:53Speaker 5: an RPO.
- 7:54Speaker 6: It's not going to be.
- 7:55Speaker 7: He does a nice job of... He's so tall, upright,
- 8:00Speaker 7: when he takes a shotgun snap. He's got very little movement.
- 8:03Speaker 7: When he drops back to pass, he catches it, he
- 8:06Speaker 7: drops back, his foot works first read, second read, third read.
- 8:11Speaker 3: He's not moving up in the pot. He is standing there.
- 8:14Speaker 7: Even when he hands it off, he catches it, stand
- 8:15Speaker 7: straight up he hands it but then he like pops
- 8:18Speaker 7: back up like he's throwing it yeah right so everything
- 8:21Speaker 7: he does kind of looks the same which does like
- 8:25Speaker 7: make your linebackers and safeties and have to hesitate a
- 8:28Speaker 7: little bit even if he hands it off you got
- 8:31Speaker 7: to watch that ball man you got to watch the
- 8:33Speaker 7: ball you can in the shotgun that's the disadvantage you
- 8:36Speaker 7: have in shotgun is like you never get to turn
- 8:38Speaker 7: your back away from the defense so you can't ever
- 8:41Speaker 7: like hide the ball so as a deep defensive coaches
- 8:44Speaker 7: and defensive players, man, you just got to watch the ball,
- 8:48Speaker 7: stay disciplined. But, like, look, we're talking a lot about
- 8:52Speaker 7: Camario because of how great he's been. Odds are he's
- 8:54Speaker 7: not going to play. Based off the line, yeah. Based
- 8:57Speaker 7: off the line, which is crazy. But who is playing
- 8:59Speaker 7: is Anthony Evans, their receiver.
- 9:01Speaker 3: My God.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I wasn't familiar with his game. Dude's averaging almost 115
- 9:08Speaker 7: yards per game.
- 9:09Speaker 6: He's only had one game where he hasn't had 100 yards.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Seven.
- 9:12Speaker 7: He's ranked seventh. In the country, yards per game. First
- 9:17Speaker 7: in the SEC. Receptions per game. He's third in the
- 9:22Speaker 7: country in FBS in receptions per game at eight. Number
- 9:27Speaker 7: one in the SEC. And he's 10th in the country
- 9:31Speaker 7: in receiving yards with one less game than everybody. He's
- 9:34Speaker 7: got 574 yards. 10th in the country with one less game.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Pretty good. Pretty good.
- 9:45Speaker 5: He's going to get the football early and often. Puckett,
- 9:48Speaker 5: the quarterback, if that is, in fact, who plays.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Really?
- 9:51Speaker 6: He is going to find Mr.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Evans.
- 9:54Speaker 6: And if he doesn't, then that's an advantage for LSU.
- 9:57Speaker 6: And what's funny is, like, people always say, man, you
- 9:59Speaker 6: got to die.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Receiver. They're finding ways to get on the ball. Like,
- 10:02Speaker 3: you do.
- 10:04Speaker 7: Like, you do find ways to get people the ball. But, like,
- 10:07Speaker 7: your whole game plan is not built around it. You
- 10:09Speaker 7: can't just line them up and be like, you're going
- 10:11Speaker 7: to throw it to this guy. Like, it's got to
- 10:13Speaker 7: be within the play. Now, you can do things as
- 10:15Speaker 7: an offensive coordinator to get them advantageous matchups. I try
- 10:20Speaker 7: to get them on a back or try to get
- 10:21Speaker 7: them on a safety, try to do this and put
- 10:23Speaker 7: them like maybe the number one option and a lot
- 10:26Speaker 7: of routes. But just because you do that, you could
- 10:28Speaker 7: have this big game plan designed to go to one
- 10:31Speaker 7: specific receiver. Any at the end of the, like the
- 10:34Speaker 7: defense made adjustments and he's got one catch at the
- 10:36Speaker 7: end of the game. Or you can have this game
- 10:38Speaker 7: where you didn't think anybody, you didn't think a guy
- 10:39Speaker 7: was going to, you know, maybe a couple of plays
- 10:41Speaker 7: he's got an opportunity, but then he ends up ends
- 10:44Speaker 7: the game with 11 catches for one 80.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Like, yeah.
- 10:46Speaker 6: You just, you can't force the ball anywhere.
- 10:51Speaker 7: But what they, what does happen is your receivers, if
- 10:54Speaker 7: you start giving one-on-one coverage, they just start winning their one-on-ones.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:59Speaker 7: Like, but if a team's going to play shell on
- 11:00Speaker 7: you and play zone, it's like, well, if he gets the,
- 11:03Speaker 7: if he gets the ball, great, but we can't really
- 11:05Speaker 7: do anything to force it.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:07Speaker 6: I was going to say like, the only thing you
- 11:08Speaker 6: can kind of do is, all right, this is their coverage.
- 11:10Speaker 6: This is who they are. This is what they like
- 11:12Speaker 6: to run.
- 11:12Speaker 5: And then you find a way to get your receiver
- 11:15Speaker 5: in that spot for that route, you know, the route
- 11:18Speaker 5: that you want to have against the coverage beater.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:20Speaker 5: And then that becomes a chess match of, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 5: motioning man, lining him up there. It was the adjustment
- 11:26Speaker 5: from the defensive coordinator, so.
- 11:28Speaker 7: What I think you have to do, and again, I'm
- 11:31Speaker 7: talking a lot about if Camario's playing, like, I think
- 11:33Speaker 7: you have to be aggressive. I think you've got to
- 11:37Speaker 7: put pressure on him. No one's got to tell Blake
- 11:40Speaker 7: to be aggressive. He's going to be aggressive, but. You've
- 11:43Speaker 7: got to be aggressive. You have to be willing to
- 11:45Speaker 7: take chances and play man-to-man. I saw Missouri sit back,
- 11:48Speaker 7: not bring any pressure, play shell coverage. And when I
- 11:51Speaker 7: say shell, too high safety. So some swimmers would cover two, quarters, quarter, quarter, half.
- 11:58Speaker 7: And they just walked right down the field doing RPOs.
- 12:02Speaker 7: Hand it, throw it, hand it, throw it, hand it,
- 12:04Speaker 7: throw it. And they just let them. It was like
- 12:06Speaker 7: they were trying to play bend, don't break, but they
- 12:08Speaker 7: just continuously got broke.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Right.
- 12:11Speaker 7: And he had, like, two great touchdown passes by the
- 12:14Speaker 7: end of the first quarter.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So, like, it's one of those things. You've got to
- 12:16Speaker 3: be aggressive.
- 12:17Speaker 7: You know, certainly pick your spots to be aggressive on
- 12:21Speaker 7: the field based on down and distance and momentum of
- 12:24Speaker 7: the game and things like that.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Know when to push, know when to pull.
- 12:27Speaker 7: But you can't just sit back and shell coverage because
- 12:31Speaker 7: they're going to run the ball. I mean, it seems
- 12:33Speaker 7: like they've got a good enough offensive line to drive
- 12:36Speaker 7: people off the ball. defensive line on the other side
- 12:39Speaker 7: look pretty decent as well. So, like, it's one of
- 12:42Speaker 7: those things. You have to play your game no matter
- 12:45Speaker 7: who the quarterback is and be aggressive. And based on
- 12:50Speaker 7: all these RPOs, you've got to make them throw it
- 12:55Speaker 7: into press coverage, into one-on-ones.
- 12:59Speaker 5: Inside the chat, let's just make sure that we don't
- 13:02Speaker 5: run more prevent coverage.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Was that a joke? I think it might be. I
- 13:08Speaker 3: hope it is. Go watch out on this guy.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Just because you see cover three, that's like prevent. If
- 13:16Speaker 5: you actually want to define it, it's more about depth
- 13:19Speaker 5: and leverage and your rush and the situation. Your defensive
- 13:22Speaker 5: back's aligning deeper than normal. They protect against those explosives
- 13:27Speaker 5: for the leverage. Defenders keeping receivers in front of them
- 13:30Speaker 5: rather than contesting underneath routes. When you say prevent, just
- 13:35Speaker 5: The only thing I ever ask is, when you say that,
- 13:37Speaker 5: I'm going to ask you how to define it, and
- 13:38Speaker 5: you've got to tell me how to define it.
- 13:40Speaker 7: Besides the one in the middle on Madden football game
- 13:44Speaker 7: that says prevent.
- 13:46Speaker 3: True. There's a good one. I don't know what it is, but, man,
- 13:50Speaker 3: it's going to prevent it.
- 13:51Speaker 6: It says it right here in the title.
- 13:54Speaker 3: It says it right here. Prevent.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Like, if it's like a cover eight situation, then I'll
- 13:59Speaker 5: give you prevent. Like three under, five over the top.
- 14:02Speaker 6: I'll give you that. But if you see cover three and.
- 14:05Speaker 5: You're like, oh, prevent, prevent. Oh, it depends on where
- 14:08Speaker 5: the depth is. Where's their leverage? What's the situation?
- 14:11Speaker 6: Same thing.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Same thing with quarters.
- 14:13Speaker 6: Basic. Like you run cover three the whole game. And
- 14:18Speaker 6: a lot of things.
- 14:19Speaker 3: And again, they beat you on mesh concepts.
- 14:21Speaker 7: Kentucky beat you on mesh concepts where you were playing
- 14:23Speaker 7: man or playing press and they were meshing. And so
- 14:27Speaker 7: you try to get, they were, they were winning. So you,
- 14:30Speaker 7: You try to play different coverages, and you can take
- 14:32Speaker 7: hitches outside. I mean, they were giving us hitches all game.
- 14:34Speaker 7: We just stopped taking them. And also, they also had
- 14:39Speaker 7: some hitch routes on press man-to-man coverage. They just ran
- 14:41Speaker 7: good routes and snapped it off.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Yeah, the one in the fourth quarter that we showed
- 14:46Speaker 5: an eye in the sky, number seven from Kentucky, was
- 14:49Speaker 5: a good route. He came back, caught the ball, went
- 14:51Speaker 5: back to the ball, then had a plan as he
- 14:53Speaker 5: caught the ball, made one guy miss, picked up three
- 14:55Speaker 5: extra yards.
- 14:57Speaker 6: Didn't get the first down. That was press. That was
- 14:59Speaker 6: man coverage.
- 15:01Speaker 3: And then we did stop them on that fourth down,
- 15:02Speaker 3: but we shouldn't have. They had a walk-in tether.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Because I believe we were playing man against the mesh,
- 15:09Speaker 5: and that's why they got away from that.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Go check it out.
- 15:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I made good throws.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Right, you are.
- 15:20Speaker 6: His best, like, five throws of the game were. That's 5-3.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Fourth quarter.
- 15:25Speaker 7: He didn't have any touchdowns, but like, ooh, boy.
- 15:28Speaker 3: He got you.
- 15:29Speaker 6: All right. We'll take a break.
- 15:31Speaker 5: We'll continue talking a little LSU Mississippi State. We've got
- 15:33Speaker 5: Flynn's top 10 NFL quarterbacks. We've got Munchies with Chef
- 15:37Speaker 5: Michael Johnson. All still coming your way. Stay locked in
- 15:39Speaker 5: here to OTB.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Off the bench. She was in the backyard, say it
- 15:51Speaker 1: was a little past nine. When a prince pulled up
- 15:56Speaker 1: a white pickup truck.
- 16:00Speaker 6: Her folks should have seen it coming. It was only
- 16:02Speaker 6: just a matter of time. Plenty old enough.
- 16:08Speaker 7: And you can't stop love.
- 16:10Speaker 6: She stuck a note on the screen door. Sorry, but
- 16:15Speaker 6: I got to.
- 16:15Speaker 1: 2007 champs purple and gold to the core this is

- 17:35Speaker 5: All right, let's take a look real quick at Mississippi
- 17:37Speaker 5: State's defense. I know a lot of the conversation because
- 17:39Speaker 5: of how good they are on offense, because of their quarterback,
- 17:42Speaker 5: because of the health situation of their best quarterback, their
- 17:46Speaker 5: best running back. It's been Mississippi State on offense. Let's
- 17:49Speaker 5: take a look at where they're at on defense. Now,
- 17:51Speaker 5: this is a team that doesn't get after the quarterback
- 18:00Speaker 5: at an elite level. They don't have one guy. I
- 18:03Speaker 5: think their leading sack guy is two and a half
- 18:04Speaker 5: sacks on the year. They don't have one guy that's
- 18:06Speaker 5: going to take over a game. They've got 13 sacks
- 18:09Speaker 5: on the year. Right now that's 13th in the SEC. Interceptions,
- 18:17Speaker 5: they have two on the season. So they don't have
- 18:20Speaker 5: a lot of takeaways on the season. They give up,
- 18:26Speaker 5: let's see, through the air. Let's see what they give
- 18:28Speaker 5: up through the air. 260 yards per game through the air.
- 18:34Speaker 5: That is right now 15th in the SEC. So there
- 18:40Speaker 5: is now, and again, this isn't like, because they played
- 18:43Speaker 5: one less game, this is an average per game.
- 18:46Speaker 6: So they'll give up plays through the air.
- 18:48Speaker 5: That is a place where I think LSU can take advantage.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Now, look, you gotta be careful.
- 18:52Speaker 5: We all understand that, but Mississippi state on the ground
- 18:54Speaker 5: is about the middle of the pack when it comes
- 18:56Speaker 5: to the SEC. Uh, there are, 124.3 yards per game
- 19:01Speaker 5: given up on the ground. They've given up 10 rushing
- 19:04Speaker 5: touchdowns to kind of compare. LSU gives up 74.5 yards
- 19:10Speaker 5: per game. Average per carry, Mississippi State's at 3.6. Let's
- 19:15Speaker 5: call it 3.6. LSU's at 2.5 per rush. Now, you
- 19:20Speaker 5: can make some hay on the ground, but it does
- 19:22Speaker 5: feel like your best way for success is going to
- 19:24Speaker 5: be through the air. Now, what does that look like
- 19:27Speaker 5: for LSU? Is it going to be drop-back passes from
- 19:29Speaker 5: Sam Levitt? Is it going to be RPOs from Sam Levitt?
- 19:32Speaker 5: Is it going to be moving him outside the pocket?
- 19:34Speaker 6: We've got to see.
- 19:39Speaker 5: But I think there is, in this game, an opportunity
- 19:42Speaker 5: to get the Sam Levitt that you saw in the
- 19:44Speaker 5: second half against Texas A & M.
- 19:47Speaker 6: They don't– look, again, 13.
- 19:50Speaker 5: In the SEC as far as getting after the quarterback
- 19:52Speaker 5: they give up a lot of passing yards you can
- 19:55Speaker 5: sit in the pocket now the pocket's gonna look it's
- 19:58Speaker 5: gonna close in on you we saw that against A
- 20:00Speaker 5: & M and Sam didn't run because he couldn't he
- 20:03Speaker 5: delivered the ball down the field there was a couple
- 20:04Speaker 5: times in the Kentucky game.
- 20:07Speaker 6: Delivered the ball down the field took a hit Not
- 20:10Speaker 6: a shot, but took a hit.
- 20:12Speaker 5: I think that's the best way to go about this
- 20:15Speaker 5: game against Mississippi State. I think you can beat them
- 20:17Speaker 5: through the air. Again, they are 15 out of 16
- 20:22Speaker 5: teams at passing yards per game at 260. That's where
- 20:27Speaker 5: you can make some hay, and I do think it
- 20:29Speaker 5: is by dropping back, having good protection, allowing your receivers
- 20:34Speaker 5: to win, and delivering the football.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Yeah, the.
- 20:39Speaker 7: Offense has, I feel like, been pretty consistent throughout the season.
- 20:45Speaker 7: Even the bad games, you still move the ball. You
- 20:50Speaker 7: still figured out how to make big plays. I was
- 20:53Speaker 7: very encouraged by Sam's hamstring this past weekend.
- 20:57Speaker 6: LSU, total yards-wise, is still number one in the SEC. Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 6: By 50 yards.
- 21:03Speaker 7: Just because we've lost two games doesn't mean the offense
- 21:06Speaker 7: has been a a disappointment by any means they've been,
- 21:09Speaker 7: they've been good. I think the frustrating part is they
- 21:13Speaker 7: could be really good.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 7: If it's a little bit more consistent and we've seen
- 21:17Speaker 7: that if Sam, if you get a little bit more
- 21:19Speaker 7: consistent play from Sam, like it looks so good. That
- 21:23Speaker 7: game going through his reads when he hurt his hamstring.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Like so good.
- 21:29Speaker 7: That is actually, that's helped them. That's been a benefit.
- 21:31Speaker 7: And you saw it this week. They just didn't have
- 21:33Speaker 7: as many open guys this past weekend. They didn't have
- 21:36Speaker 7: as many, Now, he reverted back a little bit to
- 21:40Speaker 7: being a little hoppy, being a little bit rushed towards
- 21:43Speaker 7: the end of the game on some, but it is
- 21:45Speaker 7: still so much better than it was at the beginning.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yes. He still has to learn to count.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Yep.
- 21:51Speaker 7: Got to count to three, got to count to four,
- 21:53Speaker 7: and again, a lot of improvement. We're still midway through
- 21:56Speaker 7: the season. There's been a lot of improvement over the
- 21:58Speaker 7: last couple of weeks in that RPO game of making
- 22:01Speaker 7: sure he does hand it. Now, I didn't really love
- 22:03Speaker 7: a lot of the scheme in the running game that
- 22:05Speaker 7: we used this past weekend. I explained that a lot
- 22:07Speaker 7: in the eye in the sky, the film breakdown. But
- 22:10Speaker 7: I didn't love the scheme that we were using. We
- 22:16Speaker 7: weren't going downhill enough and just like, let's go run duo.
- 22:19Speaker 7: Let's go run outside zone. Let's go run it like,
- 22:21Speaker 7: let's run iso. Let's get up on those backers fast.
- 22:24Speaker 7: We were doing a lot more pulling and pulling tackles,
- 22:27Speaker 7: pulling centers, pulling guards, a lot of double pulls, a
- 22:30Speaker 7: lot of counters, things like that. And it wasn't like
- 22:33Speaker 7: those things are good and those things can work. But
- 22:36Speaker 7: especially early in the game, to me, it's a lot
- 22:39Speaker 7: to sort out when the defense is flying around in
- 22:43Speaker 7: an electric atmosphere. In an electric atmosphere, those linebackers and
- 22:46Speaker 7: defensive ends, they just run faster.
- 22:48Speaker 3: They do. They can play with their hairs on fire.
- 22:50Speaker 3: They play downhill.
- 22:52Speaker 7: So when you're pulling two tackle, like a tackle in
- 22:55Speaker 7: the center, a tackle in a guard, or a tackle
- 22:56Speaker 7: in a tight end to one side, And having to
- 22:59Speaker 7: sort out like six different defenders with receivers trying to
- 23:02Speaker 7: figure out who exactly they're– like all this, the scheme
- 23:04Speaker 7: has to be perfect.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Like everybody's got.
- 23:06Speaker 6: And when it matches up, it usually– It's beautiful. It's
- 23:09Speaker 6: a big hitter. It's beautiful.
- 23:10Speaker 7: But if one out of your seven or eight guys
- 23:13Speaker 7: that are blocking make one mistake, they get their eyes
- 23:16Speaker 7: in the wrong place or somebody misheard the mic declaration,
- 23:20Speaker 7: that is in a loud environment, in a loud on-the-road environment,
- 23:26Speaker 7: who is six yards from the center. Who's making the
- 23:28Speaker 7: call in a loud environment. That's why you go silent count. Well,
- 23:31Speaker 7: you go silent count a lot of times because you
- 23:33Speaker 7: can't hear the snap count, right? Because the quarterback is
- 23:36Speaker 7: in shotgun and he's six yards, five yards away from
- 23:39Speaker 7: the lineman. The center is the one making Mike declarations
- 23:43Speaker 7: who sets everybody's assignment. That one Mike declaration sets everybody's
- 23:48Speaker 7: assignment in that blocking scheme. Well, a tight end, who's split,
- 23:53Speaker 7: not split out as a wide receiver, but maybe he's
- 23:55Speaker 7: got like a two-yard split from the tackle, he's five
- 23:58Speaker 7: or six yards away from that center. The same amount
- 24:01Speaker 7: of distance as a quarterback is from the line when
- 24:03Speaker 7: they go silent count. But you can't silent count a
- 24:06Speaker 7: mic declaration. That has to be relayed through everybody to
- 24:10Speaker 7: him to let him know what the assignment is. If
- 24:14Speaker 7: he doesn't get it in a loud environment, and he doesn't,
- 24:17Speaker 7: He's trying to clear himself almost. Then somebody's going to
- 24:20Speaker 7: go free. And I think that was some of the
- 24:22Speaker 7: issues in the running game this past weekend. Tough running
- 24:26Speaker 7: plays the run in a noisy environment. Sometimes it's just like,
- 24:29Speaker 7: let's get up and run it. Let's double team to
- 24:31Speaker 7: the Mike. Let's double team to the Sam. Let's lead
- 24:34Speaker 7: up with our tight end. And we did that a
- 24:36Speaker 7: little bit in the second half, and it was successful.
- 24:38Speaker 7: I just was hoping that that was a little bit
- 24:40Speaker 7: more of the strategy going into the game.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Anyway, I got a little bit long.
- 24:45Speaker 5: No, I mean, to your point, I mean, even in
- 24:46Speaker 5: pass protection, like what Matt's talking about, how important it
- 24:49Speaker 5: is to declare the right mic or make sure everybody's
- 24:52Speaker 5: on the same page. Like, if I'm in a pass
- 24:54Speaker 5: protection and the offensive line has the four down linemen
- 24:57Speaker 5: and then the mic linebacker, that doesn't mean it's the
- 25:00Speaker 5: guy that is labeled the mic in the pregame when
- 25:03Speaker 5: you list the starters. That's not what that means. It
- 25:06Speaker 5: means it could be the Will, it could be the Sam, hell,
- 25:08Speaker 5: it could be the Nickel Sam, it could be whatever.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:12Speaker 6: My protection, let's call it, it's the will linebacker, right?
- 25:16Speaker 6: For some reason they go backside.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Well, then, then I have the true, the guy that's
- 25:20Speaker 5: labeled as the mic, but he's not the mic in
- 25:21Speaker 5: this play. I've got him, I've got the corner, I've
- 25:24Speaker 5: got both safeties. I got the backside corner. And that
- 25:27Speaker 5: tells me who I have. Now, if I tried to
- 25:29Speaker 5: declare it myself and I said, Oh, the guy on
- 25:30Speaker 5: my side, that's the mic. And when the will comes,
- 25:33Speaker 5: I know the offensive line declared him as the mic.
- 25:35Speaker 5: And so then I'm going to be wrong. So you
- 25:37Speaker 5: have to get that. And it's based off of the
- 25:39Speaker 5: center or the quarterback, or sometimes when Helms and Flynn
- 25:42Speaker 5: would fight on the field.
- 25:43Speaker 6: You'd try to, hey, guys, just tell me which one's
- 25:44Speaker 6: the mic.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Yeah, shut up, Brett. I'm the quarterback. Listen to me.
- 25:51Speaker 6: You did say that often.
- 25:54Speaker 3: We got in some arguments.
- 25:56Speaker 6: We had some conversations.
- 25:58Speaker 5: But it is very important to your point. And it
- 25:59Speaker 5: did feel like that maybe didn't happen. And so like,
- 26:02Speaker 5: I don't know, I'm not saying 10 plays.
- 26:03Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 26:04Speaker 6: It's hard.
- 26:04Speaker 7: It's hard to happen when you're coordinating that many people
- 26:07Speaker 7: inside the box. So inside that tackle box. And, um, anyway, it's,
- 26:13Speaker 7: it is what it is. It's in the past now.
- 26:15Speaker 7: It's not what, you know, we were hoping to see
- 26:17Speaker 7: in the running game, but I think that improves. Like
- 26:20Speaker 7: you were so close on so many different running plays
- 26:22Speaker 7: this past weekend. And I know it doesn't like close
- 26:25Speaker 7: means Jack squat. Um, when it comes to wins and losses,
- 26:30Speaker 7: but the team's improving, whether you like it or not,
- 26:33Speaker 7: the team is getting better. Sam is getting better. And
- 26:36Speaker 7: I look for that, that rise. I look for them
- 26:40Speaker 7: to continuously get better as well. And again, like, look,
- 26:43Speaker 7: you can be doomsday. I know I don't want to
- 26:45Speaker 7: have two losses. Just like they don't want to have
- 26:47Speaker 7: two losses. Just like you don't want them to have
- 26:48Speaker 7: two losses, but you've lost two games in the sec
- 26:52Speaker 7: on the road, nine points, total of nine points.
- 26:55Speaker 3: So it's close. It's not there. Right. It's close.
- 27:00Speaker 7: And they're fighting their ass off. And they got multiple
- 27:02Speaker 7: guys that have been out that were on All-American trajectories.
- 27:05Speaker 7: So it's been a big loss.
- 27:08Speaker 6: And that's what I mean.
- 27:09Speaker 7: But they continue to fight. They're fighting the entire game.
- 27:13Speaker 5: They are, which is not something you could say a
- 27:14Speaker 5: year ago. That's why this one, this last week or so,
- 27:19Speaker 5: because it's like, I mean, you get Kentucky.
- 27:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 27:21Speaker 5: And then Mississippi State, if they don't have Mario Taylor,
- 27:24Speaker 5: you feel okay. Auburn right now is trying to figure
- 27:26Speaker 5: themselves out. Like, you could get to the bye week,
- 27:28Speaker 5: and then you maybe get some of those guys back. But, look,
- 27:31Speaker 5: ain't nobody going to feel sorry for you. You got
- 27:33Speaker 5: two losses. You still got to go out there and
- 27:35Speaker 5: beat Mississippi State and Auburn. You got to get to
- 27:37Speaker 5: that bye week, and you got to get to that
- 27:39Speaker 5: bye week where.
- 27:40Speaker 6: No more losses.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Because if you want to have a chance, if you
- 27:43Speaker 5: want to get Trey Desgreen back, if you want to maybe,
- 27:46Speaker 5: maybe get what week's back at some point, you got
- 27:49Speaker 5: to keep winning. You got to keep winning, and you
- 27:53Speaker 5: got to give yourself a chance. So that's why these
- 27:55Speaker 5: next two games, I mean, must win to say the least.
- 27:59Speaker 5: And that's the obvious statement.
- 28:00Speaker 6: All right, we'll take a break. More OTB.
- 28:02Speaker 5: We've got Matt wants to talk about some coverages. I
- 28:04Speaker 5: know you've got some questions inside the chat. We'll get
- 28:06Speaker 5: to some of that. He's got his quarterback rankings. We've
- 28:09Speaker 5: got Chef Michael Johnson. A lot still to get to
- 28:11Speaker 5: here on OTB Live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Off the bench.

- 30:09Speaker 2: easy touch You want somebody who will spend some time
- 30:16Speaker 2: Not come and go in a heated rush Baby, believe me,
- 30:22Speaker 2: I understand When it comes to love, you want a slow.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Hand All right, welcome back in.
- 30:31Speaker 5: OTV here live from the Raising Cane studio. A lot
- 30:36Speaker 5: of chatter in the chat.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Hey, that's what it's for.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Yep.
- 30:40Speaker 6: About coverages.
- 30:41Speaker 5: And someone asked a question about prevent coverages and almost
- 30:46Speaker 5: said it like they knew exactly.
- 30:47Speaker 6: What it was.
- 30:47Speaker 5: And it's been a pet peeve of mine this week
- 30:51Speaker 5: because it's just not the case. Now, there's coverages that
- 30:56Speaker 5: could be considered prevent. Now, Like cover, like I said,
- 30:59Speaker 5: cover eight, like three underneath, five over the top, like
- 31:02Speaker 5: that one. But like cover three, cover four, it's a
- 31:04Speaker 5: lot about depth. It's about technique. It's about situation and
- 31:07Speaker 5: different things. And Matt's going to break it down, kind
- 31:12Speaker 5: of what we're talking about. And we talked about this
- 31:14Speaker 5: a little bit on Eye in the Sky, that last
- 31:16Speaker 5: drive for Kentucky in regulation. Like there was tighter windows
- 31:20Speaker 5: than you probably remember, and it was a really good
- 31:23Speaker 5: quarterback series by Kenny Minchie. But here's kind of what
- 31:26Speaker 5: we're talking about when it comes to coverages and cover three,
- 31:29Speaker 5: cover four, whatever.
- 31:31Speaker 7: Yeah, so prevent is a, I think it's an easy-to-use
- 31:34Speaker 7: term when you're giving them passes in zone and you see,
- 31:39Speaker 7: and a lot of times people say, well, why is
- 31:40Speaker 7: the corner backed off so much? Like, why are we
- 31:43Speaker 7: giving up the hitch route or that stop route outside?
- 31:46Speaker 7: Or why are we giving up a curl route?
- 31:49Speaker 3: Whatever it is.
- 31:50Speaker 7: Like, zone coverages has, you know, you got guys that are,
- 31:53Speaker 7: playing in zones. They don't necessarily have a guy. They
- 31:56Speaker 7: have a space. They have a zone of the field.
- 31:58Speaker 7: That's for the name. Everybody understands that we all get that.
- 32:03Speaker 7: So it's not necessarily like a linebacker covering a receiver,
- 32:05Speaker 7: but if a receiver is in a linebacker's place, that's
- 32:08Speaker 7: what becomes the case. And so what offenses try to do,
- 32:11Speaker 7: of course, you're trying to exploit those zones.
- 32:14Speaker 6: You know, where there's.
- 32:15Speaker 7: People are supposed to be and you know, where the,
- 32:18Speaker 7: the windows are, you know, where the holes are, you know,
- 32:20Speaker 7: where the gaps are, you know, Like, if you're a quarterback,
- 32:22Speaker 7: that's why you see no-look passes from, like, the best
- 32:24Speaker 7: in the NFL. They know where guys are supposed to be,
- 32:27Speaker 7: so if they look them off one direction, they know
- 32:29Speaker 7: it creates a weakness behind that area. So I think
- 32:33Speaker 7: it's easy to, I'm not even going to say misinterpret, because, like,
- 32:37Speaker 7: what you're trying to interpret when you say prevent is, like,
- 32:39Speaker 7: why are we giving up these passes? Like, why are
- 32:41Speaker 7: we giving up these passes underneath? Like, let's go press them.
- 32:44Speaker 7: Let's play man-to-man. Let's get in their faces, get in
- 32:46Speaker 7: their grills. Like, why are we giving them that situation? Well,
- 32:51Speaker 7: there's a lot of different zones you can play. There's
- 32:52Speaker 7: a lot of different coverages you can play, and every
- 32:54Speaker 7: single one has weaknesses. There's not one single thing a
- 32:57Speaker 7: defense can do that doesn't have some.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Sort of weakness.
- 33:02Speaker 7: And sometimes, like, you get lucky as a play caller
- 33:04Speaker 7: on offense, and you have a play call that's designed
- 33:06Speaker 7: to exploit a weakness. Like, that's not even on purpose.
- 33:09Speaker 7: But sometimes you've got a quarterback that understands the weaknesses
- 33:12Speaker 7: and can take advantage of those things.
- 33:14Speaker 1: So.
- 33:16Speaker 7: I just want to show you a little bit about,
- 33:18Speaker 7: we were talking, there was some cover three conversation in
- 33:20Speaker 7: the chat. So I wanted to kind of break down
- 33:21Speaker 7: just cover three in general. And there's a good clip
- 33:24Speaker 7: of it. This is the last, Taylor, pull up my
- 33:26Speaker 7: screen if you would. Like there's this, this is the
- 33:29Speaker 7: last drive to tie the game for Kentucky at the
- 33:33Speaker 7: end of the game. And it is, we're going to
- 33:37Speaker 7: play it here. So this is a good, just like
- 33:39Speaker 7: basic cover three clip. We call this, I would call
- 33:42Speaker 7: this three week. Why do I call that three-week? Because
- 33:45Speaker 7: we've got a safety that's going to roll down weak
- 33:46Speaker 7: side here. So he's playing. The safety's playing weak. He's
- 33:49Speaker 7: not coming. If it was just regular three, this linebacker
- 33:53Speaker 7: would stay inside, and he would come down. The safety
- 33:55Speaker 7: would come down outside. Now, if it was three buzz,
- 33:57Speaker 7: he would go outside. Ooh, that's not out here. He
- 34:00Speaker 7: would go outside, and he would come inside. So those
- 34:02Speaker 7: are just variations that cover three. But Taylor, is this
- 34:06Speaker 7: being shown?
- 34:07Speaker 3: We good?
- 34:08Speaker 6: Yeah, Taylor, can we get that on the back screen, too?
- 34:10Speaker 7: All right, so cover three is basically what it means.
- 34:13Speaker 7: It's like you've got three people covering a deep third.
- 34:16Speaker 7: That's where the three comes from. So you've got a
- 34:17Speaker 7: free safety who's in charge of this third. You've got
- 34:20Speaker 7: a corner that's in charge of this deep third. And
- 34:22Speaker 7: you've got this corner in charge of this deep third. Now,
- 34:25Speaker 7: their job is not to cover stop routes outside. Their
- 34:28Speaker 7: job is not to cover hitch routes outside. That's the
- 34:31Speaker 7: curl flat defender. The curl flat defender is in charge
- 34:34Speaker 7: of this zone. This curl flat defender up here in
- 34:36Speaker 7: charge of this zone. These guys are called, uh-oh. These
- 34:39Speaker 7: guys are called hook defenders. My son's texting me.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Hold on. Let me put Do Not Disturb up.
- 34:45Speaker 6: What's Huck talking about?
- 34:45Speaker 3: What up, Huck? He's got this.
- 34:47Speaker 7: He made up this PowerPoint he wants me to show
- 34:49Speaker 7: on air. So he's like, do it.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Do it, Dad. Love it. All right. So the weaknesses
- 34:57Speaker 6: of this are outside early.
- 35:00Speaker 7: So quick game early, taking hitches before this guy can
- 35:03Speaker 7: get out of here. The other weak spot is the
- 35:05Speaker 7: seam route right here.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Yep.
- 35:06Speaker 7: So this corner's job is to back up, and if
- 35:09Speaker 7: this guy runs a seam, he's going to overlap him.
- 35:11Speaker 5: Yeah, if that guy right there. Now, if he goes vertical,
- 35:13Speaker 5: the guy on the outside, then you've got to take
- 35:15Speaker 5: him man.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Correct.
- 35:17Speaker 6: In this situation for the corner we're talking about.
- 35:19Speaker 5: Like Matt's talking about, though, if that guy runs a
- 35:22Speaker 5: hitch and this guy runs a seam, then that corner,
- 35:24Speaker 5: he's got to get over the top, and he's got
- 35:25Speaker 5: to do it pretty quick.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Yep.
- 35:27Speaker 7: So as y'all can see, we have these three guys
- 35:29Speaker 7: right here covering the deep third. We've got our curl
- 35:31Speaker 7: flat defenders. This guy is not getting out. He is
- 35:35Speaker 7: this guy. So the slot defender is going to run
- 35:38Speaker 7: a little hitch right there, which consumes him.
- 35:40Speaker 5: Right.
- 35:41Speaker 3: It consumes that defender.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Right.
- 35:44Speaker 3: So which leaves a window where there's a window right here.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Cover three. It's not his job. It's not this guy's
- 35:49Speaker 6: job to press this guy. Right.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 35:51Speaker 6: The mistake here is just eyes. Eyes by one person.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Right there.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 35:58Speaker 7: That's all those mistakes. But you got to give credit
- 36:02Speaker 7: to Kentucky, too. With the play call, this is really hard.
- 36:05Speaker 7: So these two guys right here, one and two, these
- 36:08Speaker 7: guys are called hook players in cover three. They got
- 36:10Speaker 7: all these hook routes over the middle, but you got
- 36:12Speaker 7: to stay on your side in cover three. This tight
- 36:16Speaker 7: end right here crosses his face, which turns his back
- 36:20Speaker 7: that way for just enough time to let a window
- 36:24Speaker 7: pop open. And quarterback does a great job, and they
- 36:26Speaker 7: hit a pass behind him. So it's a really good play.
- 36:30Speaker 7: by the quarterback to find it, to see it, and
- 36:32Speaker 7: just one small, small mistake right here in cover three.
- 36:37Speaker 7: That's the one unsound. Because the tight end crossed face, right?
- 36:41Speaker 7: The tight end crosses his face. And I know if
- 36:44Speaker 7: you're just listening on radio, it's hard to kind of envision.
- 36:46Speaker 7: I'm trying to explain it as best I can, but
- 36:49Speaker 7: there was a lot of questions, so I just wanted
- 36:50Speaker 7: to answer it.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I just wanted to talk a little bit about X's
- 36:52Speaker 3: and O's right here.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Matt, it's such a good point because those extra steps
- 36:56Speaker 5: and that one eye violation creates that small window.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yep.
- 36:59Speaker 6: So, again, this isn't like, oh, prevent. No, no, no.
- 37:04Speaker 5: It is the coverage got out of place by three
- 37:08Speaker 5: steps and one eye violation, and that's where the window
- 37:12Speaker 5: is to throw the football.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Yep.
- 37:13Speaker 7: And so here's, like, a weakness of this is it's
- 37:16Speaker 7: in a three-by-one set. So even backside. So the safety,
- 37:18Speaker 7: this is three weeks. The safety's coming down weak, and
- 37:20Speaker 7: he's got curl flat, right?
- 37:22Speaker 5: Yep.
- 37:23Speaker 6: Like, they could take a hitch route right now. Right now, yeah. Right,
- 37:25Speaker 6: and that's what quarterbacks are taught.
- 37:27Speaker 7: And if he doesn't, if this guy widens out, To
- 37:30Speaker 7: cover him, you've got a check down right there, which
- 37:33Speaker 7: stresses this guy. This guy now has to choose this
- 37:36Speaker 7: or he's got to cover this behind it. So, like,
- 37:39Speaker 7: this is what offensive court, this is the chess game.
- 37:41Speaker 7: This is, like, really good players. This is where the
- 37:43Speaker 7: Charles Woods and the Troy Polamalis, they would show you
- 37:45Speaker 7: one thing and they would bail out to another thing. Like,
- 37:47Speaker 7: it's a game within the game. It's eye control. It's
- 37:50Speaker 7: eye discipline. The offense is always going to have answers
- 37:54Speaker 7: for you, but the defense, you just have to read
- 37:57Speaker 7: and react. And one little mistake by quarterback playing really,
- 38:01Speaker 7: really well is all that it takes.
- 38:04Speaker 3: And he made a bunch of, a couple plays like this.
- 38:09Speaker 6: Anyway.
- 38:10Speaker 3: There you go.
- 38:14Speaker 6: All right. That's a breakdown of.
- 38:18Speaker 3: That much.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Sometimes it's that much.
- 38:20Speaker 3: It's the six inches in front of your face.
- 38:24Speaker 5: And like, One of the things that Whit Weeks was
- 38:29Speaker 5: really good at, I actually think it was, I think
- 38:33Speaker 5: the best part, now he's a good blitzer and does
- 38:35Speaker 5: good against the run. He's really good in coverage, being
- 38:39Speaker 5: able to kind of be what Matt's talking about, to
- 38:43Speaker 5: kind of be that playmaker, to kind of make up for,
- 38:45Speaker 5: like if he had a step the wrong way, like
- 38:48Speaker 5: he had enough twitch in his hips where he could
- 38:51Speaker 5: kind of turn it and try to get back right there,
- 38:52Speaker 5: you're not dealing with that right now. So like you
- 38:55Speaker 5: have to be on every single aspect of the coverage,
- 38:58Speaker 5: and you can't take the bait. Like, T.J. Daugherty's got
- 39:01Speaker 5: really good hips. Like, he can do that. So you
- 39:04Speaker 5: have to know your limitations, too. You have to know
- 39:06Speaker 5: who you are as a player. And I'm not saying
- 39:07Speaker 5: that just picking on one player. Like, me, Matt, anybody
- 39:10Speaker 5: that's ever played the game. You've got to understand thyself.
- 39:14Speaker 5: And I think that's really one of the spots you're
- 39:15Speaker 5: missing what weeks the most is being able to be
- 39:18Speaker 5: in coverage and kind of turn your hips and go
- 39:20Speaker 5: make a play.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Yep.
- 39:21Speaker 7: I mean, that was a perfect example of cover three.
- 39:23Speaker 7: It's how you draw it. That's how I was drawn up.
- 39:26Speaker 7: It's just they drew up a really nice play. They
- 39:29Speaker 7: made a very nice play. You make one little mistake
- 39:31Speaker 7: here or there, that's the difference.
- 39:34Speaker 6: All right.
- 39:35Speaker 5: We will take a break. We've got more OTB coming
- 39:38Speaker 5: your way. Got some quarterback rankings.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Are you serious?
- 39:41Speaker 6: We'll see. Are the slides ready? Get Huck's PowerPoint ready.
- 39:44Speaker 3: We should get that ready. We'll get that ready.
- 39:47Speaker 6: We'll do it here on OTB.

- 41:19Speaker 5: Now my hands really do make a loud clap.
- 41:22Speaker 3: They're very large.
- 41:29Speaker 6: Great song.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Rip.
- 41:34Speaker 6: All right. Our, you know, junior correspondent co-host, Huck.
- 41:41Speaker 5: Yep.
- 41:41Speaker 6: Huck Flynn. As I made something for the show. Graphic designer,
- 41:45Speaker 6: if you will.
- 41:46Speaker 7: And we always talk about, like, you know, sometimes y'all
- 41:49Speaker 7: give me some really great marketing ideas for my high.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Most of the time. Most of the time. All the time.
- 41:54Speaker 6: We should actually take a look.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Paul Huck had a pretty... He just comes up to
- 41:57Speaker 3: me the other day.
- 41:58Speaker 6: This is a great idea.
- 41:58Speaker 7: So they had fall break this week. A lot of
- 42:00Speaker 7: time on their hands. A little bit, you know. We're
- 42:01Speaker 7: doing a couple different things. Around the house, he gets
- 42:04Speaker 7: his creativity juices going. He's always thinking about my high
- 42:07Speaker 7: and always thinking about football. Taylor, throw this up there.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Let's see. Let's grade... Huck Flynn's graphic design marketing abilities.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Check this out. You see that? OBJ. That's not a
- 42:22Speaker 3: football he's catching.
- 42:24Speaker 5: It's a my high.
- 42:24Speaker 3: It's a card of my highs. Check this out.
- 42:26Speaker 6: Oh, who's this?
- 42:27Speaker 3: Saquon. Who's he jumping over?
- 42:30Speaker 5: He's jumping over a guy with prime energy.
- 42:36Speaker 3: No big deal.
- 42:36Speaker 6: That is so good.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Jamar.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Boom.
- 42:39Speaker 3: One-hander.
- 42:40Speaker 6: Oh, that's actually, I like that. Oh, Randy Moss going
- 42:44Speaker 6: old school. A little blurry. A little blurry. Guess who
- 42:46Speaker 6: he just got? Revis Island.
- 42:48Speaker 3: What?
- 42:49Speaker 6: He's Moss and Prime right there. Are you kidding me?
- 42:52Speaker 6: That is so good.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 42:54Speaker 6: You need to post some of these. Derek Henry's stiff
- 42:59Speaker 6: arm and Prime in the face. Shout out, Hug. That's good.
- 43:03Speaker 7: Here we go. That's a good little catch. We got plenty.
- 43:06Speaker 7: Just crushing it.
- 43:09Speaker 6: I'm not even joking. I'm so impressed by this idea.
- 43:11Speaker 6: You need to post some of these on y'all's Instagram page.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Absolutely. Definitely no infringements on logos or nothing.
- 43:18Speaker 6: No.
- 43:18Speaker 3: What is this? Oh, they're all jumping.
- 43:21Speaker 6: Oh, that's the Hail Mary last year. Yeah, Noah Brown.
- 43:24Speaker 3: They're all fighting for it.
- 43:25Speaker 6: Two years ago.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Dang, dude. That was a good one. Love it. Good job.
- 43:31Speaker 6: Good job, Huck.
- 43:32Speaker 5: I saw that play too many times, and I only
- 43:34Speaker 5: played them a couple times. I know you saw that
- 43:35Speaker 5: one way more than I did.
- 43:37Speaker 3: The end. There you go.
- 43:40Speaker 6: Drink my high. Drinkmyhigh.com. That was great right there. We
- 43:44Speaker 6: should post some of those, huh? That was legit. That
- 43:48Speaker 6: a boy, Huck.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Good work. Job well done.
- 43:50Speaker 6: Man, I tell you, he's not a prime drinker.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Well, no. Prime gets stiffed arm in the face. And
- 43:58Speaker 3: hurtled over.
- 43:59Speaker 6: Notice he didn't have any Gatorade on there.
- 44:01Speaker 7: I know. Because it tastes really good. Gatorade didn't even
- 44:04Speaker 7: make the league. Got cut.
- 44:07Speaker 6: Sure, bud.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Got cut. Anyway, good job.
- 44:14Speaker 6: Did you pay Hug for his services? Oh, yeah.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I mean, he gets paid every day. Free rent, you know?
- 44:21Speaker 3: I'm keeping a Cali, though. We'll get a bill one day.
- 44:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 44:28Speaker 7: Those football games over there at the Dunham Field, he
- 44:32Speaker 7: takes my credit card a lot and goes to the
- 44:33Speaker 7: concession stand.
- 44:34Speaker 3: So, you know. Can I get your credit card? I
- 44:37Speaker 3: got concessions. Sure, son. Sure, son. I trust you. Love you, bud.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Good job.
- 44:44Speaker 6: Well done, Huck. In the chat, suck it, Prime.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Eat dirt.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Coming up, we are going to have Chef Michael Johnson, right?
- 44:57Speaker 5: Fresh off getting married, so shout out to Chef. We're
- 45:00Speaker 5: going to have kind of more of a breakdown, too.
- 45:02Speaker 5: We'll continue breaking down LSU and Mississippi State. I don't
- 45:05Speaker 5: think that's the only PowerPoint we're going to see today.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Are we going to have maybe another PowerPoint?
- 45:09Speaker 3: We've got quarterback rankings, pal.
- 45:11Speaker 6: Oh, when we come back, we've got quarterback rankings.
- 45:14Speaker 3: We should. I told you, you've got a complicated relationship.
- 45:19Speaker 6: I know, but you've had two hours since we talked
- 45:22Speaker 6: about that.
- 45:22Speaker 3: I know. I'm getting it right now, bro.
- 45:24Speaker 6: All right.
- 45:25Speaker 5: Matt Flynn stopped in NFL quarterbacks when we come back
- 45:29Speaker 5: here on OTB live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 45:36Speaker 6: Hey, guess where we're going to be tomorrow?
- 45:39Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 45:39Speaker 3: I wonder. Is that the best grocery store around? Yep.
- 45:42Speaker 5: And I don't even really need to say it, but
- 45:44Speaker 5: you already know it.
- 45:45Speaker 6: It is Rouse's.
- 45:47Speaker 5: Rouse's.com is the website. We're going to be there from
- 45:49Speaker 5: 7 to 10 a.m. Which one are we going to
- 45:51Speaker 5: be at? We're going to be at Burbank and Lee
