- 0:17Speaker 1: a comedy call right now with Greg Shep, and we're
- 0:19Speaker 1: going to see him in Sioux Falls this evening. First
- 0:22Speaker 1: of all, Greg, thanks for taking the time to chat.
- 0:24Speaker 1: How are you doing, man?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Likewise. Thanks for having me.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm great. I'm excited to work with you tonight. I
- 0:28Speaker 1: get to be the emcee on the show, and we've
- 0:30Speaker 1: got Mike Glazer, who is very, very funny, coming back
- 0:33Speaker 1: to Sioux Falls. We also have another gentleman who will
- 0:36Speaker 1: be here. Papa West is his name. I've seen him
- 0:39Speaker 1: a few times. Very, very funny guy. And I've not
- 0:41Speaker 1: had a chance to see you. Have you been to
- 0:43Speaker 1: Sioux Falls in the past, Greg?
- 0:45Speaker 2: No, no, can't say that I have.
- 0:47Speaker 1: So tonight is the night. It's going to be your
- 0:49Speaker 1: first time here. But you've been doing comedy for a while.
- 0:51Speaker 1: How long have you been doing this?
- 0:53Speaker 2: I mean, I'm like a fetus in comedy years. Probably like,
- 0:56Speaker 2: I mean, I'm only like five or six years in.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Well, it's five or six more than some people, though.
- 1:01Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And what was it that first got you interested in
- 1:04Speaker 1: getting on the stage and bearing your soul to all
- 1:07Speaker 1: these strangers and telling about the silly things you've done?
- 1:09Speaker 2: I mean, I've always just been a ham. But I
- 1:11Speaker 2: think I was initially really into law. I think that's
- 1:15Speaker 2: pretty common across the board for comics. I was really
- 1:19Speaker 2: into law. And then at some point, I just clicked
- 1:21Speaker 2: that I was more interested in ladies and gentlemen of
- 1:24Speaker 2: the jury than I was in actually being an attorney.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, so you wanted to be an attorney at one point.
- 1:32Speaker 1: That's kind of cool. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I mean, I guess.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I don't know if that is the case for most comics.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm trying to think if I have met anyone else
- 1:40Speaker 1: that was like, I was planning to be an attorney,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I ended up being a comic. But I bet there's
- 1:45Speaker 1: a couple others out there at least.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I think across my peers, there's
- 1:50Speaker 2: a few of us that went that route.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's very cool. Well, I'm glad that you ended up
- 1:54Speaker 1: doing what you're doing, and I'm excited to see you
- 1:57Speaker 1: in Sioux Falls tonight. over the course of the last
- 2:00Speaker 1: five years that you've been doing this, do you have
- 2:02Speaker 1: any fun, interesting things you've had a chance to do
- 2:05Speaker 1: that you just kind of pinch yourself and go, did
- 2:06Speaker 1: I really get to do that? Oh, yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Usually the one that comes to mind is I did
- 2:11Speaker 2: a show for a blind computer programmers convention in New York.
- 2:20Speaker 2: That was awesome. They like bought out the whole room.
- 2:23Speaker 1: That's pretty cool.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I got off the train. I'm walking in the venue
- 2:25Speaker 2: and this guy was like, you gotta, you gotta get
- 2:27Speaker 2: here now. And I'm like, whoa. Then another guy was
- 2:29Speaker 2: on the show. And I'm like, what do you mean?
- 2:31Speaker 2: What is he? He's like, they're all blind. I was like, okay,
- 2:33Speaker 2: like that's funny. That is. And he's like, no, no, no. Canes, dogs,
- 2:37Speaker 2: black sunglasses.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Huh.
- 2:39Speaker 2: And I got on, I didn't really know what to say,
- 2:40Speaker 2: but I got on stage and I was like, guys,
- 2:42Speaker 2: do you think that the name tags are a little
- 2:46Speaker 2: bit of a waste here? Cause Amazon is burning.
- 2:48Speaker 1: So let's, uh, That's awesome. Did they really have name tags?
- 2:53Speaker 1: That is wild. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Not in Braille, just blue Sharpie.
- 2:56Speaker 1: There you go. I'm going to stick this on you.
- 2:58Speaker 1: It can say anything, literally. You have no idea what
- 3:00Speaker 1: it says. So I think that is really kind of fun.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And again, I bet it was a fun time, and
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'll bet they absolutely loved you. I mean, I love them.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I think that's the coolest part about this. You get
- 3:10Speaker 2: to see a ton of different people in a ton
- 3:12Speaker 2: of different places, and I'm excited to add Sioux Falls
- 3:15Speaker 2: to the list.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Well, there you go. Tonight is the night. And the poster,
- 3:20Speaker 1: when they sent me this poster, is that like a
- 3:23Speaker 1: high school photo of you and Mike? Because there's like
- 3:25Speaker 1: a picture. I don't know if that was like made
- 3:28Speaker 1: up that way or Photoshopped that way, but it's absolutely adorable.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we shot it that way. We work with this
- 3:34Speaker 2: incredible photographer and creative, Andrew Levy. I'm Los Angeles. And yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 2: that was kind of the vision we were going for.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Kind of a clash of worlds. Yeah. Yeah. It's kind
- 3:45Speaker 2: of like stepbrothers. Yeah. Well, I like it.
- 3:50Speaker 1: It is very, very fun. And I'm excited to see
- 3:52Speaker 1: you tonight for the very first time. And Mike, like
- 3:55Speaker 1: I said, has been here before. He's already got a
- 3:57Speaker 1: fan base here. There's some folks that love him here.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You're going to be walking into that a little bit.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And how would you describe your style of stand-up comedy?
- 4:05Speaker 1: What would you say is the Greg Shep comedy styling?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know that I could do that quickly. But,
- 4:13Speaker 2: you know, just giving it a shot here. I mean,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I think that I like looking at bigger problems. So
- 4:19Speaker 2: bigger social issues. I really like understanding why people do
- 4:24Speaker 2: what they do and why they think what they think.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And I kind of take these bigger issues and I...
- 4:29Speaker 2: reduce them down in a cast iron to what's going
- 4:33Speaker 2: on with me. And I kind of use my perception
- 4:37Speaker 2: of these kind of non sequitur issues in my life
- 4:42Speaker 2: to explain kind of the bigger problems.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Well, there you go. I'm excited to see.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Kind of a roundabout way to do that.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I'm excited to have you.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. So I get to be the MC for
- 4:51Speaker 1: the show. And then, uh, like I said, there's a
- 4:53Speaker 1: young man named, uh, Papa West and, and he is
- 4:56Speaker 1: a super funny guy. Moved here from, like, Wyoming, I
- 4:59Speaker 1: think is where he said he moved from. So I
- 5:01Speaker 1: had a chance to meet him, I don't know, a
- 5:03Speaker 1: month ago, two months ago, and I've seen him at
- 5:04Speaker 1: a few shows, and he's a funny, funny guy.
- 5:07Speaker 2: And like I said, I know.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well, he's got some kids, but he's younger than me.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I think I'm older than all of you guys. Maybe
- 5:15Speaker 1: not all put together, but certainly individually, so... And I'm
- 5:19Speaker 1: excited to work with you tonight. I think it's going
- 5:21Speaker 1: to be a whole lot of fun. Thank you for
- 5:23Speaker 1: taking a little bit of time to chat with me today,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and I will see you tonight, my friend.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Likewise. Looking forward to it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Again, Greg Shep, he is one of the comics on
- 5:29Speaker 1: the show tonight at Lucky's in downtown Sioux Falls, also
- 5:33Speaker 1: known as Club 224. We've got them on the comedy calendar.
- 5:37Speaker 1: and we had a pair of tickets to give away,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and I don't know if we've given those away yet
- 5:41Speaker 1: or not, so I'm going to tell you what. If
- 5:42Speaker 1: you go to the website, if they're still listed there,
- 5:45Speaker 1: get registered, and that means I need to give them
- 5:47Speaker 1: away right away. So get on there, check it out, SiouxFallsComedy.com,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and again, you'll see a link to register to win
- 5:53Speaker 1: some tickets for that show and others. And like I said,
- 5:55Speaker 1: if they're still there, register right away, because that means
- 5:58Speaker 1: I need to give them away this morning. Again, all
- 6:00Speaker 1: the details at SiouxFallsComedy.com. Something you should know
