- 0:04Speaker 1: Jim Simple Minds promised you a miracle. Thank you, Josh.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You did promise to a miracle, and at the moment
- 0:11Speaker 1: a miracle is happening, delivered. He is delivered.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Okay, So I'm going to jump in here because I've
- 0:19Speaker 2: just got a little bit to get through and I'm
- 0:21Speaker 2: watching the time.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Last night I compared a quiz.
- 0:24Speaker 2: At the Three Heels for Paul Bartlett from the Folks
- 0:26Speaker 2: and Running Club. Now, Paul's running the Berlin Marathon in
- 0:29Speaker 2: September and he's raising money for a charity called whiz Kids. Now,
- 0:33Speaker 2: whiz Kids is the UK's leading charity for wheelchair users
- 0:38Speaker 2: and now more than seventy is for users for young people.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Actually more than seventy five thousand young people need a
- 0:45Speaker 2: wheelchair to be mobile and often provide They often provide
- 0:49Speaker 2: tailored sort of bespoke wheelchairs to suit the young person's needs.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So it's a very worthwhile cause. Now Paul's partner Catherine,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and she got a place is what they call goodge.
- 1:00Speaker 2: So she got into the Berlin Marathon straight away. Paul
- 1:04Speaker 2: was going to go out with her and support her.
- 1:06Speaker 2: He booked the flights and obviously they booked the hotels
- 1:08Speaker 2: and he's a very good runner himself, so he tried
- 1:11Speaker 2: to get in they couldn't, so he went down the
- 1:13Speaker 2: charity route. So they're now both running the Berlin Marathon together. Anyway,
- 1:18Speaker 2: Paul had to raise a total of fourteen hundred pound
- 1:20Speaker 2: before the start of the quiz he had about seven
- 1:23Speaker 2: hundred pound in the kids. Now, fourteen hundred pounds these
- 1:27Speaker 2: days for raising money for a marathon is quite low actually,
- 1:31Speaker 2: to be fair, I mean London Marathon. I don't know
- 1:33Speaker 2: what it's going to be this year, but it could
- 1:35Speaker 2: have been two thousand and two two hundred last year.
- 1:38Speaker 2: But because Paul was going anyway, he had the flights
- 1:42Speaker 2: booked and he's a runner, and the whiz kids said, well,
- 1:46Speaker 2: if you can raise fourteen hundred pound, we'd be very happy. Anyway,
- 1:49Speaker 2: the quiz raised over nine hundred and fifty pounds and
- 1:54Speaker 2: so he'd hit his target. And then that was last
- 1:57Speaker 2: night alone. Then one table stepped up and donated fifty
- 2:01Speaker 2: pounds to make it up to the roundabout one thousand pounds,
- 2:05Speaker 2: So what a great night we had. The Three Hills
- 2:07Speaker 2: was absolutely packed. I've done some quizies up there, but
- 2:11Speaker 2: there was sixteen seventeen tables and which is why I've
- 2:17Speaker 2: got a sore throat this morning, because it always happens.
- 2:20Speaker 2: And in the second half, are you listening, you lot?
- 2:23Speaker 2: You know, have to turn the PA up and yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 2: but people stayed.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Right to the end. It was really really good fun.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Lots of great prizes, lots of vouchers for meals and
- 2:35Speaker 2: gyms and yeah, it was great fun. And one of
- 2:38Speaker 2: the last words for Uatanna we managed to get a
- 2:41Speaker 2: five day short stay a ticket which could be depending
- 2:44Speaker 2: when you go, it could be worth three hundred pounds.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it was brilliant stuff. What I didn't know
- 2:49Speaker 2: was that down at the three Hils last.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Night it was packed.
- 2:53Speaker 2: The car park was full up and there's so much
- 2:56Speaker 2: going on. That's why a lot of the youngsters were
- 2:59Speaker 2: there practice. Of course their mums and dads to drop
- 3:01Speaker 2: them off and probably stay and watch. So there was
- 3:04Speaker 2: all the youngsters outside the main door. There was more
- 3:07Speaker 2: of the senior players playing, practicing in the nets, and
- 3:10Speaker 2: there was a lovely cricket match going on. And I've
- 3:14Speaker 2: just had this little report literally just came through from
- 3:17Speaker 2: all Win, who's a coach down there, and so I'm
- 3:21Speaker 2: going to read it out as it comes.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Let's get this right.
- 3:23Speaker 2: The women's team and the young girls team. The girls
- 3:26Speaker 2: were about thirteen fourteen years old I think anyway. In
- 3:29Speaker 2: a thrilling contest between Folkston Cricket Club Girls and Folkston
- 3:33Speaker 2: Cricket Club Women, the girls held their nerve to retain
- 3:36Speaker 2: the Malcolm Porter Cup, winning by just five runs in
- 3:39Speaker 2: the final over. The match was played in fantastic spirit,
- 3:42Speaker 2: with lots of the girls getting the chance to bolt
- 3:44Speaker 2: to their mums. In fact, created some great memories and
- 3:48Speaker 2: plenty of smiles. A huge well done to everyone involved
- 3:51Speaker 2: and thank you for another wonderful season of cricket. Well
- 3:54Speaker 2: what a fantastic way to round off our final training
- 3:56Speaker 2: session of the season. And anyone interested in joining the
- 4:00Speaker 2: fun the can police go to www dot Folkston Cricket
- 4:03Speaker 2: Club folkstoncc dot com for more details. So a big
- 4:08Speaker 2: thank you for to all win there for getting out
- 4:10Speaker 2: that report from last night, so it's gone out on
- 4:13Speaker 2: air today.
- 4:13Speaker 3: That's brilliant.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Now it was interested in watching the game because they
- 4:17Speaker 2: were just bowling away and all of a sudden to
- 4:19Speaker 2: the batters they call them, they don't call them bats
- 4:21Speaker 2: men or bats women. Now they call them batters. Two
- 4:24Speaker 2: of the batters just came off and two more went on,
- 4:27Speaker 2: So so what's going on? So I had to find out.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So the rules are slightly different. So the first two
- 4:32Speaker 2: go in.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Wasn't a hydration break? Was It wasn't a hydration break, No,
- 4:37Speaker 1: it wasn't.
- 4:39Speaker 3: It was.
- 4:40Speaker 2: What happens is they get the two first two go
- 4:42Speaker 2: in and they face between them.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Three overs each.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So now if they are out in those three overs,
- 4:51Speaker 2: they stay there. They just swap ends, but they stay there.
- 4:54Speaker 2: So they do they guarantee three three overs between them,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and but if they are out, they lose five runs.
- 5:03Speaker 3: And so that's why it was so close.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I mean, actually, if somebody went in and was out
- 5:08Speaker 2: the first ball, they'd be minus five before. So that
- 5:12Speaker 2: was new to me. So I learned something. But that
- 5:15Speaker 2: was really really good fun. And I was why I
- 5:19Speaker 2: saw it was I was doing the quiz and you
- 5:21Speaker 2: know at the three Hills, Adrian, there's a big window
- 5:23Speaker 2: at the back and it leads down onto that bottom
- 5:26Speaker 2: pitch there, and every now and then i'd a sneaky
- 5:28Speaker 2: look out in between the rounds to see I couldn't
- 5:30Speaker 2: see the scoreboard, but one of the senior ladies came
- 5:32Speaker 2: in and I called her and said, well, how did
- 5:34Speaker 2: it go? Look and she told me you know, but yeah,
- 5:37Speaker 2: there was such a great community, family feeling about it.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So they had the cricket, loads of cricketers. There was
- 5:44Speaker 2: the hockey they have a mixed hockey league and that
- 5:47Speaker 2: was going on all on the Friday evening. And there
- 5:50Speaker 2: was also the Saints basketball they were they were training
- 5:53Speaker 2: in the main gym, so there was just so much
- 5:56Speaker 2: going on and it really really was a great evening.
- 6:00Speaker 2: So fingers time for another song. We are running out
- 6:03Speaker 2: of music, so we found this one. Is this the
- 6:05Speaker 2: car related one?
- 6:06Speaker 1: It is indeed?
- 6:07Speaker 3: Okay, so go and tell us about that.
- 6:09Speaker 1: This one is one of my favorite Madness who will
- 6:13Speaker 1: be playing at Canterbury Cricket Ground really next Sunday and
- 6:19Speaker 1: fingers crossed Scarborough will be there. We've got a tent
- 6:23Speaker 1: and we're promoting the Scarborough Weekend which is coming up
- 6:27Speaker 1: in the weekend of the thirteenth, fourteenth of September. We'll
- 6:31Speaker 1: be there with the Flyers promoting the Star. Well, if
- 6:39Speaker 1: we can get a generator then we will play up
- 6:41Speaker 1: at the scar music up there. So yeah, we're looking
- 6:43Speaker 1: forward to We're just waiting to back to hear from
- 6:46Speaker 1: the Madness management team on how many of us will
- 6:50Speaker 1: be able to actually go up to the Lawrence ground,
- 6:53Speaker 1: you know, to let us come in and to do that.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But we will be there next Sunday at the Lawrence
- 7:01Speaker 1: Cricket Ground.
- 7:01Speaker 3: So was it like a sort of late evening do.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big, big, big Madness there. I think
- 7:08Speaker 1: it's the Ordinary Boys, the Beat featuring Reggan Jr. Cast
- 7:14Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a good day there.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And of course if you are going come and say
- 7:21Speaker 1: hi at the Scarbatent and yeah, we're going to promote that.
- 7:26Speaker 1: So we're going to stick to that one on This
- 7:28Speaker 1: is Madness from nineteen eighty two and this is driving
- 7:31Speaker 1: in my car.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I've been my car.
- 7:47Speaker 3: It's not quite a Jaguar.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They go sucks and the boys and that's madness driving
- 7:55Speaker 1: in my.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Car, just not quite like a Jaguar.
- 7:59Speaker 1: What you've got. I wasn't driving much last couple of weeks.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, at the start of at the start of the record,
- 8:07Speaker 2: the song standing like your Car.
- 8:09Speaker 3: With cranking it.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Okay, So just a reminder that from a Monday, this
- 8:16Speaker 2: coming Monday to the third of August to the sixth
- 8:19Speaker 2: of August. The FM transmitter on radio folks, that will
- 8:22Speaker 2: not be working. They're doing some big recabling work, so
- 8:26Speaker 2: you can't pick it up, and you can't pick it
- 8:28Speaker 2: up when you're driving in your car or in your
- 8:31Speaker 2: radio at home, but you can still listen to it
- 8:33Speaker 2: via the website, listen live, and your smart speaker, so
- 8:38Speaker 2: just be prepared for that.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Now.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I want to wish former guest of the show a
- 8:42Speaker 2: Cassie Sinclair. Do you remember Cassie the cyclist and she
- 8:44Speaker 2: came in. Good Luck to Cassie is this week she
- 8:47Speaker 2: takes on a massive hilly cycling challenge in France. She's
- 8:51Speaker 2: riding up a more Vu, which a lot of cyclists
- 8:54Speaker 2: will know.
- 8:55Speaker 3: It's arguably the toughest stage of the Tour de France.
- 8:58Speaker 3: She's only doing she's not in the Tour de France.
- 9:00Speaker 2: He's just doing one stage, but it's one of the biggest,
- 9:04Speaker 2: the toughest one. It's also known as the Giant of Provence.
- 9:08Speaker 2: So we'll let you know as she gets on and
- 9:09Speaker 2: in time try and get her back into the studio
- 9:12Speaker 2: tell us all about it.
- 9:13Speaker 3: So good luck to you Cassie Yep, good luck, oh
- 9:16Speaker 3: my Sea. On Thursday.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Of two guests, I've got some of Luiz and Amy
- 9:19Speaker 2: Stimpson now some. I launched an initiative exactly one year
- 9:23Speaker 2: ago called one Year Coming Up called five K Your Way.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Now.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Summer is a cancer survivor and five K Your Way
- 9:31Speaker 2: is held within the Dover Waterfront Park Run where people
- 9:35Speaker 2: who have been touched by cancer can come along, do
- 9:37Speaker 2: some exercise, swap stories and we all go over to
- 9:41Speaker 2: the Cost of Coffee across the road there afterwards and
- 9:44Speaker 2: just have a little chat. And so Summers coming in
- 9:50Speaker 2: on Thursday, and my other guest on the same day
- 9:53Speaker 2: is Dover Waterfront Park Run, a run director Amy Stimpson.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Now they celebrate their third birthday in September, so it's
- 10:01Speaker 2: been a little bit of jiggling, but we've managed to
- 10:03Speaker 2: get them both in on the same day as we
- 10:05Speaker 2: did last year, so she'd be bringing us up to
- 10:08Speaker 2: date with the behind the scenes work that happens at
- 10:10Speaker 2: a part run. And the next Saturday we're joined by
- 10:14Speaker 2: members of the Folks and Rugby Club and I'm hoping
- 10:16Speaker 2: it's going to be mostly the ladies.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 10:19Speaker 2: The final guest list, but we once again, we did
- 10:22Speaker 2: prepare this quite a few weeks ago. We've got Ladies
- 10:26Speaker 2: Captain Shelley Osborne coming in and she's hopefully going to
- 10:30Speaker 2: bring in a coach, an a physio and a couple
- 10:33Speaker 2: of members of the Ladies team.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I'm not quite sure, but.
- 10:36Speaker 2: We've got spacebooked for him and she's looking forward to
- 10:40Speaker 2: coming in. She's going to contact me during the week
- 10:42Speaker 2: with some finer details, so listen up. That will be
- 10:45Speaker 2: a really good one, but it's going to be jammed
- 10:47Speaker 2: with the green and whites of folks and ladies ruggier
