- 11:07Are you and your wife happily married? Mister Mathews? Did you have
- 11:13any serious differences? You know, nothing that it could call seriously. Only
- 11:20disagreement where they had was over our son Charles. Betty would have spoiled a
- 11:24Morocco if I hadn't put my head down. How old is Chile? This
- 11:28is thirty three? He gives on the other side of town. Betty was

- 11:35things for Charles now while we were alive to see enjoy them? She all
- 11:39the said he to get everything that they were gone anyway. Was your wife

- 11:48keeps busy with their club work and we usually get along with that. Yeah,
- 11:52there's no enemies that you know. Oh no, no, how long
- 11:54has miss Murray worked for him or for you? Or this is ninety five
- 12:00comes and cleans three days a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday. This is
- 12:03dinner for on those names. She and missus Matthews get along. Before I
- 12:07got anything. You left the house about seven o'clock Monday morning. That's sir,
- 12:11your wife seemed to be in good spirits. Who's going downtown? If
- 12:16I had been going to the office, I'd have taken her as I went
- 12:18in, but I had to go over the long grool. Beddy said that
- 12:22she would have the housekeeper, Miss Murray Driver did, and then she'd come
- 12:26on over to the office and ride home with me that night. So I
- 12:30waited until Lily eight o'clock that evening at the office, and you know the
- 12:33rest. Do you know? If she had much money with him, as
- 12:37a matter of facts, quite a bit. She was going to buy a
- 12:39dress and Charles's wedding anniversaries next week, said she was going to get something
- 12:43for them. You have a gun in the house, Why yes, I
- 12:48do. It's one child's brought back from overseas. It's a Lugert. He
- 12:52gave it to me. I don't know why I took it. I've always
- 12:54hated guns. I rapped in the cloth and put it away at the bottom
- 12:58desk. Drow your wife nowhere it will chat. She didn't have done you

- 18:08that covid. It looks like you might have been shot up there on the
- 18:11road and fell down here. Somebody stopped the car right up there. They
- 18:15could look both ways because they could turn the road right up the road about
- 18:19a mile. Mister Reynolds, I got exact right, But you might want
- 18:22to talk one sixth Valley View Drive without exercising his dogs, got a couple

- 18:34run. Where does this road go that ends up there about a quarter of
- 18:38a mile. This whole area was sub divided about two years ago. I'll
- 18:42put one broke on him. Linel Plach is the only house in Valevue after
- 18:47you leave Limouth Boulevards down there. Any tire march on the rown, lots
- 18:49of them. This is quite a spot for the neckers, Dark said.
- 18:53The body had been here about two and a half days. There's been a
- 18:56lot of cars up here in that then. Anybody coming out to relieve you,
- 19:00Well, don't tell me to stick around. You got here. I

- 20:00change of to be What about personal effects? Nothing to wish you was really
- 20:08worthy? Really roop it? So that's something. Yeah, you know what
- 20:15happened about no Monday. The weapon was a luger. Buger is missing from
- 20:22the Matthews house. Only three, possibly four people could have known whether gun
- 20:26wasn't stolen by a common house sleep Charles, the seners, and the clear

- 21:18there. People stay here in the office. Come in, Sorry, how
- 21:23alms Murray, Sorry to bother you right here. Okay, climb. I
- 21:32know this will be done and repetitious for you, this morney, but we'd
- 21:33like to go over everything you've told us. Anything you may have left out,
- 21:37no matter how privy or you may think it is. Please don't I
- 21:40don't know how I can possibly Do you have any help to that? Or
- 21:42every told y'all I know. Do you know Charles mister and Missus Matthew's son,
- 21:47I should say I do, spoiled rotten. Missus gave him everything under
- 21:52the sun. You come over their house and oh, a couple of times
- 21:55a week. I guess he hadn't been over for nearly a week. Brought
- 21:57his ankle. Charles get along with his mother, I suppose so, certainly
- 22:03should all she did for him. They never had any words to him,
- 22:07not but I know of but anybody that had everything given to him like he
- 22:11has, I wouldn't trust very far. How about missus? You mean them
- 22:17getting along? Miss right? They seemed to get along all right. When
- 22:21you're working for somebody you never know could have been putting up in front.
- 22:25You have a lot of company. Missus. She's always having her club meets
- 22:29their house or as and ask the party, lunching or something. She's always
- 22:33busy. He's something social. What happened Monday morning? My goodness? Do
- 22:38we have to go over that again? I've told you several times. Well,
- 22:41I'm sorry, thank you, Miss Murray. We're stump we're trying to
- 22:45uncover any possible lead, anything at all would happen, no matter what,
- 22:49mightn't somebody help us? Well, all right, I take the bus over
- 22:55their house. I'm there three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Frider.
- 23:00I got there Monday morning about eight thirty. Mister Matthews has left for
- 23:04work by the time I got there. He usually don't leave about nine,
- 23:10but the Missus said he had to go over the long View to see about
- 23:12the contact they had over there, and they left early. Now, they
- 23:17may have had a fight before I got there, and that's why I left
- 23:19early. I don't know. Did Missus Matthews say anything to indicate there'd been
- 23:25any trouble between them that morning? No, Well, she wouldn't have told
- 23:27me if there had been. She never discussed private matters with me. Now,
- 23:33about quarter to nine, there was a phone call from Charles. They
- 23:37talked about ten minutes, and the Missus was on the way upstairs when the
- 23:41front door bell rang. She hollered me in the kitchen and told me she
- 23:45dnswered. I don't who it was at the door, probably salesman. And
- 23:51she didn't talk long at the door, because shortly after I heard her go
- 23:53on upstairs. When did she tell her she wanted to go downtown? Oh,
- 23:57no, it's about soon as I got there. She wanted to go
- 24:02and buy a childs and his wife anniversary presents. She was planning on coming
- 24:06home with mister Matthews and I have din it ready about six thirty. What
- 24:11time did you leave the house? It must have been around nine thirty.
- 24:14Oh? What what route did you take downtown? Well? I went straight
- 24:18down Pacific Boulevards. You didn't take a short cut over valley you drive?
- 24:22No, No, that's a dead end. How do you know? Well,
- 24:25I tried it once. When what did it does it make? I
- 24:30just wondered? I know when it was when I first went to work for
- 24:34them. I had my own car then, and I tried to go home
- 24:37one night that way. How long have you worked for the Matthew Four years?
- 24:41Nearly five? Do you know if they kept the gun in the house?
- 24:48No, I don't know. I suppose it did. Well, if
- 24:51every man had a gun of some kind of around. Anything happened on the
- 24:53way downtown. Nothing. What did you do after you left, missus Matthew?
- 25:00I went on back to their house. I had a lot of work
- 25:03to do. What kind of a card did you own, miss Mike?
- 25:06No, it was nosing nineteen thirty seven forward? What on earth is that
- 25:11to do with what happened? Do you have a driver's license? Well,
- 25:15of course I do. You could I see a thing? I suppose?
- 25:18So what are you trying to do? You think I did something to missus
- 25:23Matthews? Here? Thank you? Did you have a license to drive your
- 25:30car? Of course that's a renewal license you have there. I know this
- 25:37shows your original license was issued in nineteen forty nine. That's only four years
- 25:41ago. What year did you say you sold your car? I didn't say
- 25:47what possible? Good can all this do? The hot thing is upset me?
- 25:52So if you think for one minute that I had anything, I'm not
- 25:56accusing you of anything. We don't want you to help. Well, I
- 26:03don't know what more help I can be. I've gone over this so much
- 26:07I don't know what I'm saying anymore. You say you tried to take a
- 26:11short cut over valleys you drive when you first went to Once for the math?
- 26:14Yes, I just told you that. That was nearly five years ago.
- 26:17Of course, five years ago. There wasn't any subdivision in that area.
- 26:22There wasn't any such place as valets you drive. She's always given place
- 26:32to Charles. All right, that's just a bracelet for hers. Oh she
- 26:41never come right out and told me she knew. Just bet at it,
- 26:47make remarks. I heard talking to Charles about something she wants to tell him.
- 26:56I knew what it was. I found the gun in the desk drawer
- 27:03that morning while you was upstairs, when we were down on Sam May just
- 27:10turn up that road, I tried to scare. I just laughed at me.
- 27:19I didn't mean the killer, the guns in my apartment. I'm okay,
- 27:33Gwen, you got it. Okay, what? Yeah, they ran
- 27:51the wrong way in the rose ball that's just me. Oh yeah. The
- 28:11lineup, or before you pass the innocent, the bigran, the thief,
- 28:17the murderer. Listen again on Friday, December twelfth, when we again bring
- 28:21you the lineup. Yeah, I have your attention free. You beople out
- 28:26there on the other side of the wire. Every wanted to brew man,

- 29:38The lineup will be heard on Fridays at eight thirty Eastern Standard Time over
- 29:42most of these same CBS radio stations. Remember the lineup and yours cruel age
- 29:48Johnny Dollar will be heard on Fridays then Gomerly speaking, and remember you meet
- 30:03comedy when you meet Mille starring Audrey Thursday nights on the CBS Radio Network,
- 31:00Welcome Back. It is definitely somewhat foolish to make an excuse based on Rhodes
- 31:08when you are in a growing area, particularly like we're assuming wherever the lineup
- 31:15was in the nineteen in the nineteen fifties, same thing out here. We
- 31:25have a suburb outside of Boise called Meridian, and straits changed very frequently.
- 31:30I was kind of wondering whether they were holding back the answer to who did
- 31:34the the football thing, and I kept wondering whether they were just not telling
- 31:45who it was in order to avoid reminding a nation of a goat, or
- 31:52to avoid hurting someone's feelings. But it turned out that we're saving that for
- 31:56the end. I know that it's a good idea to end a mission by
- 32:00revealing a solution, but this didn't seem quite right a right note to end
- 32:07on. But anyway, it wasn't a bad episode. Let's go ahead and
- 32:10get into listener comments and feedback, and we have an iTunes review. And
- 32:15this review is from Google Girl, who says, I've been a lifelong fan
- 32:21of all things old time radio, and when I found Adam's podcast, I
- 32:24was pretty excited. At first, I fast forwarded through Adam's commentary, but
- 32:29now after listening to him for over a year, I love the commentary.
- 32:32Adam often shares things about my favorite shows, that I've never heard before.
- 32:37Good job, Adam, keep it up well, thanks so much. I
- 32:40do appreciate it. And that's all. The one thing I want to remind
- 32:45listeners be sure and send me a show that we haven't played and is not
- 32:51due to be played soon, and we'll consider playing it during the listener support
- 32:54campaign. We'll play a total of three and you can take a little look
- 33:00at the list of shows we intend to play in the future at big List
- 33:02dot Great Detectors dot net. All I will do it for now. If
- 33:07you have a comment, sender to me Box thirteen at Great Detectors dot net,
