- 0:00Speaker 1: Right now, the NewsRadio 1110 KFAB Certified Transmission Sports Brief.
- 0:08Speaker 1: The Husker Buzz edition.
- 0:10Speaker 2: All right, Sean, get off your feet.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Let's see it, Sean. How do you not dance to this?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Sean Callahan, Jim Rose. Well, you dance to this if
- 0:21Speaker 1: you've got a 40-point lead after the third quarter, not
- 0:24Speaker 1: like an 11-point lead or a 7-point lead after the
- 0:27Speaker 1: third quarter. Yeah, Nebraska looked like a bunch of clowns
- 0:29Speaker 1: doing that, Sean. And Matt Rule was noticeably upset about
- 0:34Speaker 1: it yesterday. I mean, he came close to using the
- 0:36Speaker 1: word embarrassed.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, guys, it's something that a lot of teams do
- 0:43Speaker 2: when they go to Oregon. I mean, the week before UCLA,
- 0:45Speaker 2: who won 17-15, did it. If you win the game,
- 0:53Speaker 2: and Nebraska at that point was winning 14-6, everyone was like, man,
- 0:58Speaker 2: what a program. They're having fun, but if you lose
- 1:00Speaker 2: the game, you risk this. It wasn't a good look, obviously,
- 1:05Speaker 2: especially the way the fourth quarter played out. It's not
- 1:08Speaker 2: new for teams to go in and do that. When
- 1:10Speaker 2: you go to Wisconsin, the jump around, opposing teams have
- 1:14Speaker 2: different ways to do that, too. They'll get in to
- 1:17Speaker 2: do the jump around dance. But, yeah, the video angles
- 1:23Speaker 2: and seeing Anthony Calandria, I think he shuffled about 35
- 1:27Speaker 2: yards down the field. It looked like a wedding reception
- 1:30Speaker 2: going on out there.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Well, I think it's kind of a cultural thing, too, Sean.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I think a lot of Nebraska fans, and maybe I'm
- 1:39Speaker 1: talking about the older edge, They look at it and say,
- 1:42Speaker 1: why do they need to do that? They're supposed to
- 1:45Speaker 1: be serious about winning the game. This game was not
- 1:48Speaker 1: in the bag. They just remember days when a Husker
- 1:52Speaker 1: made the first down, he handed the ball to the official.
- 1:55Speaker 1: When he made the tackle, he just got up and
- 1:57Speaker 1: went back to the huddle. When he got the ball
- 1:59Speaker 1: in the end zone, he just gave the ball to
- 2:01Speaker 1: the official. We didn't have celebrations and dances. I mean,
- 2:03Speaker 1: maybe it's just a cultural shift. Every single first down,
- 2:07Speaker 1: we got to do a dance. Every single first down,
- 2:09Speaker 1: we got to fire the arrow. And I'm just thinking,
- 2:13Speaker 1: is this the way it is now? And is this
- 2:15Speaker 1: just something that everybody has to accept as part of
- 2:18Speaker 1: the game?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this is the era of the TikToks
- 2:22Speaker 2: and the social media. Kids post dances and little things
- 2:26Speaker 2: on social media every day. I mean, it's just different. Yeah,
- 2:31Speaker 2: the world's different, as we know. And, again, like, yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 2: it didn't look good after the fact. But if they
- 2:36Speaker 2: win the game, I think everyone's talking about them a
- 2:39Speaker 2: lot differently. Like, man, they had fun. It's great to
- 2:42Speaker 2: see them do this. But, yeah, you can't lose the game.
- 2:45Speaker 2: This is probably the key thing here in that whole
- 2:49Speaker 2: thing about the dance. Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Okay, so it's recruiting week. Since the Huskers have the
- 2:54Speaker 1: week off and they don't play again until Halloween night
- 2:56Speaker 1: against Washington, Since it's a recruiting week, what's the plan now?
- 3:02Speaker 1: And your take on recruiting, Sean, is really one of
- 3:05Speaker 1: the better ones in all of college football because you've
- 3:07Speaker 1: been doing recruiting and it's been your thing for 25 years.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But now in the era of free agency, how does
- 3:14Speaker 1: this change the recruiting construct for a program like Nebraska?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Well, so over the course of a year, You get
- 3:21Speaker 2: 33 total days to go out in the football season.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So for each day, Nebraska sends out six coaches a day.
- 3:29Speaker 2: That's six of their 33 days. So you don't get
- 3:31Speaker 2: a lot of days on the road. That's got to
- 3:34Speaker 2: be understood first. You also can't do in-home visits on
- 3:38Speaker 2: these days. So you're going to games on Friday nights.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You're going into schools. I think the key thing this
- 3:45Speaker 2: week to watch is where's Matt Rule? He, I believe,
- 3:48Speaker 2: has been to maybe a local high school game so
- 3:51Speaker 2: far because that's all you really have time for. But
- 3:53Speaker 2: by week, will he go down and see Ahmaud Hudson,
- 3:57Speaker 2: a five-star tight end from Louisiana? I would imagine so
- 4:02Speaker 2: if Matt Rule's at his game wherever he's at this week.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And then what other targets? You're not as necessarily worried
- 4:08Speaker 2: about your 20-27s. You might want to go out and
- 4:12Speaker 2: see some of these kids play, but you're probably going
- 4:14Speaker 2: to go out and also check in on the key 2028s.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Because after this week, you really can't go out on
- 4:21Speaker 2: the road again as a coaching staff until January because
- 4:25Speaker 2: there's no longer coaches on the road in December. So
- 4:28Speaker 2: this will be probably one of the last big weeks
- 4:31Speaker 2: where the coaches are out and about all the way
- 4:33Speaker 2: until January, and that's more for the 2028 recruiting cycle.
- 4:38Speaker 1: All right, big guy.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 4:38Speaker 1: That's good stuff. KFAB Husker Info Strong by Sean Callahan
- 4:41Speaker 1: with the Husker Buzz. And that's when we provide material
- 4:45Speaker 1: for you during a bye week. See, anybody can talk
- 4:47Speaker 1: about stuff the week we're playing somebody. But to have
- 4:50Speaker 1: quality stuff when we're not playing somebody, once again, that's
- 4:53Speaker 1: the reason why this radio station keeps annexing larger chunks
- 4:56Speaker 1: of the audience every single day.
