- 0:12Speaker 1: This is the Wheel of Time Spoilers podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: And I think that brings us to chapter four where
- 0:23Speaker 2: they are off on the mission.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yeah, so they run up to their rooms, grab some stuff,
- 0:28Speaker 1: and head the hell out and they're you know, rushing right, like,
- 0:33Speaker 1: if we don't get out there first, then we're not
- 0:34Speaker 1: going to get the name. And it's you know, it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: typical twenty something pushing to the front of the line
- 0:39Speaker 1: just to hurry up and wait.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yet Moraine's still like one of the last ones out
- 0:42Speaker 2: there because she actually gathers a bunch of stuff.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, because she remembers to like grab a sewing kit
- 0:48Speaker 1: and extra socks and you know, normal stuff.
- 0:51Speaker 2: And a dagger that will come in handy slightly later.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Look, you want to be prepared. You always want to
- 0:56Speaker 1: be prepared. She is boy scouting. Marine is being a
- 0:59Speaker 1: boy scout about this.
- 1:01Speaker 2: But I think that is the dagger that she kills
- 1:04Speaker 2: mir and the dark friend Hill or something, the big
- 1:07Speaker 2: bad of the books. Right.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yes, Yes, carrying a small dagger at your hip is
- 1:11Speaker 1: still a good idea because sometimes you can't channel and
- 1:15Speaker 1: it's good to have a backup option. So here, here's
- 1:17Speaker 1: a real blast of names. Katerina al Ruddon, who we
- 1:21Speaker 1: know does become black Auja, but she is not Black
- 1:23Speaker 1: Auja at this point because she'sn't accepted. We also get
- 1:26Speaker 1: Carlinya who gets her hair boiled off in a dream obviously,
- 1:30Speaker 1: Alana Prittala, at Asina, Dessandra, Tamla, Caladera, Atsue. All of
- 1:37Speaker 1: those names survive into the modern era of books.
- 1:42Speaker 2: M hmm, yeah, Madonnie, Brendas, Katerine, Carolinya, Alana, pretl, ed Asina, Tamila, Desandra, Kolodera,
- 1:52Speaker 2: and Atwan. Yeah are the names that I've got in
- 1:55Speaker 2: the wiki.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they all have stuff to do. They are all
- 1:59Speaker 1: peepeople who do plot. Some of them are dark friends,
- 2:02Speaker 1: some of them are loyalists. Some of them are super
- 2:04Speaker 1: super cool and on our team. Some of them are
- 2:06Speaker 1: just random characters drifting around in the background, not doing
- 2:09Speaker 1: very much. But they all do something and right now
- 2:12Speaker 1: they're all running around like chickens with their heads cut off,
- 2:14Speaker 1: trying to pack and rush out the door. It's very cute.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We also get mentioned of more rains pre aldieb Horse.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Her horse here is named Arrow because you know, horses
- 2:24Speaker 1: don't live that long, so it'd be weird if they
- 2:26Speaker 1: had the same horses here as they do later, but
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's you know, the horses matter.
- 2:30Speaker 2: My first dog before Timber was named Arrow, only somewhat
- 2:34Speaker 2: related to this, but I did take that into account.
- 2:37Speaker 2: A horse name, you know, I guess I could go
- 2:40Speaker 2: you know, you could have gone like Mandarb or whatever.
- 2:42Speaker 1: But you know, it's cool to go with a less
- 2:44Speaker 1: obvious name, right, like.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Hopper has been done. Right. I don't want to name
- 2:48Speaker 2: my dog Hopper after Hopper, right, but I thought Arrow
- 2:51Speaker 2: was pretty clever. Plus, if you've ever heard the Harry
- 2:55Speaker 2: Nielsen song Me and My Arrow, which was actually turned
- 2:59Speaker 2: into an animated movie, he took the album, which is
- 3:01Speaker 2: a very storytelling album about a kid and his dog
- 3:04Speaker 2: in the land a point where everybody has a point
- 3:08Speaker 2: and literally have a pointed head, except for this one
- 3:10Speaker 2: kid who has a round head, and so he has
- 3:12Speaker 2: to go on the journey to find his point, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and obviously that point is a you know, analogy for
- 3:18Speaker 2: his purpose. Sure yeah, sure, yeah yeah. And then he's
- 3:22Speaker 2: got his dog Arrow with him, who has a point,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and like part of he's like, oh, you know, part
- 3:26Speaker 2: of my life is taking care of my dog, and
- 3:27Speaker 2: part of what I do is to take care of
- 3:29Speaker 2: my dog, and so that was always that always spoke
- 3:32Speaker 2: to me. And then to have Marine also have a
- 3:34Speaker 2: horse named Arrow was I thought nice. I always have
- 3:37Speaker 2: to wonder if maybe Jordan didn't know about that music,
- 3:42Speaker 2: could have could have Is this a reference to the
- 3:44Speaker 2: Harry Nielsen me in My Arrow? I don't think so,
- 3:46Speaker 2: but maybe it could be.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It could be, except his dresses do not have skirts
- 3:50Speaker 1: divided for writing. It's very important to know.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I definitely hated that.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And then we get paired up with this stealer dude
- 3:59Speaker 1: who's there for the day and who doesn't top prospecting
- 4:01Speaker 1: them and their work over the course of the day.
- 4:03Speaker 1: And there's this exchange here about directions that I'm very
- 4:06Speaker 1: confused about, and I'm wondering if our books say the
- 4:09Speaker 1: same thing. Swan tries to get them to go to
- 4:12Speaker 1: the West Bank, and then he says, I'm told to
- 4:16Speaker 1: take you to the West Bank, and then Swan's mad
- 4:19Speaker 1: about it, and then Marian thinks maybe she can change
- 4:21Speaker 1: his mind. That I'm very confused because it sure seems
- 4:23Speaker 1: like they're both saying that they're going to go to
- 4:25Speaker 1: the same place. And I don't understand why there's a disagreement.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And I'm wondering if you always says west bank in
- 4:30Speaker 1: both cases as well, it does okay, then why is
- 4:33Speaker 1: Swan trying to redirect him to do what he's already doing?
- 4:36Speaker 1: And why is she mad that he won't change from
- 4:38Speaker 1: doing what he's doing to doing what he's doing. I'm
- 4:41Speaker 1: very confused.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Hmmm. I thought she wanted to go far away from
- 4:47Speaker 2: the west bank, but he keeps her. There's a conversation
- 4:52Speaker 2: later where she's like, I want to go further inland,
- 4:54Speaker 2: closer to Dragonmount on the west bank, and he's like, no,
- 4:59Speaker 2: you have to stay close to the river. So I
- 5:01Speaker 2: know there's a disagreement there where it's like he wants
- 5:03Speaker 2: them to stay close to the river and she wants
- 5:05Speaker 2: to go further towards Dragon Mount. But that's not in
- 5:07Speaker 2: this paragraph.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, they're using the same words to describe a thing
- 5:11Speaker 1: that they're apparently disagreeing on.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Very confusing because the west bank of Tarvalin is the
- 5:19Speaker 2: side the Dragon Mount is on. It's to the west
- 5:21Speaker 2: of Tarvalan. It's like southwest. And the only reason I
- 5:25Speaker 2: think she might be upset is because like he's doing
- 5:28Speaker 2: what he's told and not because she told him to
- 5:30Speaker 2: do it.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But she says west Bank, and he says west Bank,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and then she scowls. And I just don't get where
- 5:36Speaker 1: the scowl rationale is coming.
- 5:37Speaker 2: From, because he said I was told to take you
- 5:41Speaker 2: to the west Bank.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and after she says we are supposed to go
- 5:44Speaker 1: to the west Bank, it sounds like they're both agreeing.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And then later like Marin thinks perhaps she would figure
- 5:49Speaker 1: out a way to turn him, but like turn him.
- 5:52Speaker 2: From what all I know is while looking through this,
- 5:56Speaker 2: I found North Harbor.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Congratulations, start a podcast about it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I don't have an answer for you.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I'm sorry, other than Suan saying I want you to
- 6:12Speaker 2: do what I say because I say it, not because
- 6:14Speaker 2: you were told.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But I still don't understand how Moraine can be like, well,
- 6:18Speaker 1: maybe you can change his mind later, like change his
- 6:20Speaker 1: mind about what No, I'm I'm like feels like an oversight.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I feel like one of them was supposed to be
- 6:27Speaker 1: the west flank of the mountain versus the west bank
- 6:30Speaker 1: of the river, and then this would make sense. And
- 6:32Speaker 1: also that is, like you said, the conflict later.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like we're catching a couple of these errors, right,
- 6:37Speaker 2: the whole thing with like take the test not on
- 6:39Speaker 2: the first time.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Does this book a rush job? Could it have been?
- 6:43Speaker 2: I don't even know what aut No, no way, not that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: None of this information is just a recap of stuff.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And yeah, all right, so.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Now we have pages of description of writing through Tarvalin.
- 6:56Speaker 1: The people, the clothes, the buildings don't really have anything
- 7:02Speaker 1: to say about it. It is texture. The Andorans are stubborn,
- 7:07Speaker 1: the Ogier are clever at building. Like that's what it
- 7:10Speaker 1: is for pages.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Tarvallen is ten miles long, Manhattan is thirteen.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, totally, totally. It is a densely populated city where
- 7:18Speaker 1: a bajillion people come, is very wealthy. It has the
- 7:21Speaker 1: banking district. People come here for their opportunities in a
- 7:25Speaker 1: wide variety of things. It's New Yawk. It's the big peach.
- 7:30Speaker 2: That's what I read. Nice. Yeah, it's a big poison
- 7:34Speaker 2: this speech. Yeah, it's just the big apple. It's it's
- 7:37Speaker 2: New York City. It's even gotten Ogier Grove, I mean
- 7:40Speaker 2: Central Park, like you know, it's one hundred percent, you know,
- 7:44Speaker 2: you look at the map.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It's just it's got the Empire State building, I mean
- 7:47Speaker 1: the White Tower, and it's got some pretty epic bridges.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Getting on and off of the island.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And crossing those bridges is forbidden to them except in
- 7:56Speaker 2: this very special circumstance.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's a big deal that they get to
- 8:00Speaker 1: go out of it. So, yeah, it's New York. It's
- 8:02Speaker 1: a montage of New York. We can skip like three pages.
- 8:05Speaker 1: They get onto the bridge and it is briefly blockaded
- 8:08Speaker 1: by a group of white cloaks who wander away, never
- 8:11Speaker 1: to be seen again again.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Just more Lord drop, this is a white cloak. The
- 8:14Speaker 2: white Cloaks cause trouble for the Isidie. They're antagonistic, right,
- 8:18Speaker 2: Like I swear to god. It's just in there so
- 8:20Speaker 2: he can do a little paragraph on what the white
- 8:23Speaker 2: Cloaks are. He's introducing. He tinkers the sea folk through
- 8:27Speaker 2: all the different isid Eyes, introduced the white Cloaks like
- 8:30Speaker 2: he's introducing you to every single faction that exists in
- 8:34Speaker 2: this chapter through backstories of Isidi and having them pop out.
- 8:39Speaker 1: But yeah, this is just that sense of the white
- 8:41Speaker 1: Cloaks are an intimidating force. They're the proud boys, right,
- 8:44Speaker 1: they just stand around looking intimidating, and then wander off
- 8:48Speaker 1: when anyone who actually has any kind of authority comes
- 8:50Speaker 1: by hundred percent.
- 8:51Speaker 2: But I just see that as another one of the
- 8:53Speaker 2: list he gave us Sea folk, I Iel White cloaks,
- 8:57Speaker 2: a lot of the different countries. I mean, it's he's
- 9:00Speaker 2: dumping as much lore as he possibly can into these
- 9:04Speaker 2: chapters to tell you like this is the wheel of time.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, we do have a fun inverse of personalities or
- 9:11Speaker 1: a mirror of personalities, where Swan and Moraine each have
- 9:15Speaker 1: an instance of holding the power and thinking about doing
- 9:17Speaker 1: something naughty with it, and then the other one telling
- 9:19Speaker 1: them no, and then looking back going how could can
- 9:22Speaker 1: you read my mind? How could you tell? Because? And
- 9:25Speaker 1: then well, how would you be surprised? I know you
- 9:27Speaker 1: we've been like living together for six years, and it's
- 9:31Speaker 1: cute again their soulmates.
- 9:32Speaker 2: To me, this is very much like I wish Rand
- 9:35Speaker 2: was here. He's good with men, right that level of
- 9:37Speaker 2: like everybody thinks the same thing and they're thinking it
- 9:40Speaker 2: about each other, And Moraine and Suan here are thinking
- 9:44Speaker 2: the same thing about each other, which is that like, oh,
- 9:47Speaker 2: I know she's gonna get in the mischief I better
- 9:49Speaker 2: stop her before she grabs the power and causes and
- 9:51Speaker 2: they're both like, I was just using it to enhance
- 9:53Speaker 2: my site, and it's like, no, you weren't. Yeah, you
- 9:55Speaker 2: were gonna channel I'm so cute.
- 9:57Speaker 1: We get to mention if another h future Sadai Serene,
- 10:02Speaker 1: who we do see in the modern era, but is
- 10:05Speaker 1: compared to Elid or Ellen in turn Elid it is
- 10:10Speaker 1: Elid here. Ellen and Ellen are different people? Are the
- 10:13Speaker 1: same people? Are spelled different?
- 10:15Speaker 2: Shit?
- 10:15Speaker 1: I thought Ellen and Ellen were the same person and
- 10:17Speaker 1: I was confusing it. But there's two names in this
- 10:19Speaker 1: here book.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Hold on a second before we go any further. They are, Yeah,
- 10:23Speaker 2: they are very different people.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Well crap, then, because the pretty one is the one
- 10:29Speaker 1: that dies, as I recall. So, I don't know why
- 10:32Speaker 1: that Ellen sequenced with the book earlier existed if it
- 10:35Speaker 1: was not to build her up as a character to
- 10:37Speaker 1: be sad that we lose.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Ellen spends twenty years as novice and accepted, and she's
- 10:42Speaker 2: finally raised to the Shawl in Crossroads of Twilight.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Oh, she's the one that Nineve gets the slowing lecture
- 10:49Speaker 1: about her younger sister. Okay, so that paragraph with Ellen
- 10:55Speaker 1: to establish her as a silly girl was just to
- 10:57Speaker 1: be like, oh yea, I remember her who doesn't get raised.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Until she takes a long time to get raised.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, all right, Well I guess I was wrong.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Hopefully I want to send to an email between back
- 11:08Speaker 1: when I said that and now I'm discovering them.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Right. So, but you did say Ellen, and you're like, oh, Ellen,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I thought it was elled right, Like you did say
- 11:16Speaker 2: that back when you were looking at it, because you
- 11:19Speaker 2: the information was correct for Ellen.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Jordan has trained me to not trust myself when it
- 11:24Speaker 1: comes to names that are really similar. Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So I'm just reading the section where they're talking about
- 11:29Speaker 2: the camp's closest to the river versus the ones further away,
- 11:32Speaker 2: and like, this makes sense. This exchange makes sense. It
- 11:35Speaker 2: feels like that previous one was supposed to be part
- 11:37Speaker 2: of this and just needed to get edited out, yeah,
- 11:41Speaker 2: or edited down like that. Somehow that one interaction got
- 11:45Speaker 2: split up into two, and one of them is like
- 11:48Speaker 2: I want to go to the west. It's like, oh,
- 11:49Speaker 2: you're going to go to the east. But then that
- 11:51Speaker 2: didn't work because he actually did want them on the
- 11:52Speaker 2: west side, so then he like changed it and then
- 11:54Speaker 2: the argument doesn't make sense.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, we gotta go back and listen to the audiobook
- 11:58Speaker 1: because that's going to be the original original.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Hmmm, good point.
- 12:02Speaker 1: The audiobook that gets recorded before any edited second publishings come.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Out, and they rarely pay to have it redone certainly.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Not in the early days of the books, and I
- 12:12Speaker 1: don't think even now.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I think that they might with some storm lighte archive.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I think Sanderson might pay them to record some lines
- 12:20Speaker 2: when it changes it.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Well, if anyone would, it would be Sanderson. He would
- 12:23Speaker 1: have the money and flexibility to demand that. And yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 1: all I have left for this chapter is them writing
- 12:28Speaker 1: into the camp and going, oh no, Mirandians, And with that,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm ready to go into chapter five, The Human Heart.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, just the fact that the town's abandoned because everyone
- 12:38Speaker 2: expects it to be burned, because it's always burned in
- 12:40Speaker 2: Wars because it's outside the walls.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But it's some of those towns that always gets rebuilt.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So it's like it's too valuable outside of Tarvallan to
- 12:46Speaker 2: have a town there. But yeah, it gets burned down
- 12:48Speaker 2: a lot.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of the city of Troy.
- 12:51Speaker 2: But I mean the last time I got burned down
- 12:52Speaker 2: was like a thousand years ago, right, So it's not
- 12:54Speaker 2: like it gets burned down every hundred years or even
- 12:56Speaker 2: every fifty years.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It's like there has to be a major war and
- 13:00Speaker 1: burned done more recently than that.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Burned three times during the Troloic Wars, once during the
- 13:05Speaker 2: War of the Second Dragon, and twice during the twenty
- 13:07Speaker 2: year Siege of tarball On by Ardur Hawk Wings armies.
- 13:09Speaker 2: But that was a thousand years ago, give or take.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Almost a thousand.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Years seems like a long time for a town to
- 13:14Speaker 1: not get burned down.
- 13:17Speaker 2: You know, what this town needs is a good burning down.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I mean that literally is like ancient cities where like
- 13:23Speaker 1: they would burn them down once a generation, and then
- 13:25Speaker 1: now we have these giant hills that you can do
- 13:27Speaker 1: amazing archaeology and to discover like a thousand years of
- 13:30Speaker 1: city history. Like no, no, no, we've just been living
- 13:32Speaker 1: in this same building for the last thousand years. No,
- 13:35Speaker 1: that's not realistic.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I think it was more realistic when you had the
- 13:37Speaker 2: waygate in the built into a wall in the cellar
- 13:40Speaker 2: of a house.
- 13:41Speaker 1: That doesn't actually feel realistic at all. Given me the
- 13:43Speaker 1: land surface subsides and changes over the centuries, the way
- 13:46Speaker 1: gates should be getting like or portal stones. Don't think
- 13:50Speaker 1: of you said.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Waygate, still though, I'm talking about the waygate.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I was thinking of portal stones. But still though
- 13:57Speaker 1: the surface of the land does not fix like does
- 13:59Speaker 1: the waygate stay it fixed to the surface of the
- 14:01Speaker 1: land or does it fix to stay fixed to a
- 14:03Speaker 1: certain point in the x y Z axis.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I'm just saying they built a wall with the waygate incorporated,
- 14:09Speaker 2: and then they built a house on top of that wall.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You know, the way that I'm talking about, the one
- 14:13Speaker 2: in Kyrian.
- 14:14Speaker 1: How does that explain why this town at the foot
- 14:16Speaker 1: of a bridge in Tarvalan hasn't been buried by a
- 14:19Speaker 1: thousand years of dirt accumulation.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I'm saying that's an example of things getting buried by accumulation.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's a better example.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Oh that's in Kaylin mars Pan's right, it's in Kaimla
- 14:29Speaker 1: that it's in abasement. In Kyriean it's in that King's
- 14:32Speaker 1: park garden. Thing right, because the Ogiar grove only recently
- 14:35Speaker 1: had been enclosed by the Kyrine and thrown. It's in
- 14:38Speaker 1: Camelin that it's in abasement. Just in the middle of
- 14:40Speaker 1: the city, just built right the hell over.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I thought Kamerlin would have done a better job of
- 14:44Speaker 2: preserving their ogear grove, you would think. I kind of
- 14:48Speaker 2: made the assumption that that would that it wouldn't be
- 14:50Speaker 2: in Camelin, because Kmlin would still have their ogear grove.
- 14:52Speaker 2: But you're right, it's gone.
- 14:53Speaker 1: No. Kyrian is the ones who more recently disrespected the grove.
- 14:57Speaker 2: But they don't even have like a grove. They just
- 14:59Speaker 2: have a forest where grove used to be. Chapter five,
- 15:14Speaker 2: The Human Heart.
- 15:16Speaker 1: The symbols again, the snake of the wheel.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Surprise, no heart's actually explode out of the body in
- 15:20Speaker 2: this one.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But you know, I know, right well, it's not time
- 15:22Speaker 1: for bubbles of people yet. So yeah, they roll up
- 15:26Speaker 1: and set up a booth to start taking all these names.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It looks to be about one hundred women or so,
- 15:33Speaker 1: and there's a lot of shenanigans, right. There's the cluster
- 15:36Speaker 1: of girls who are looking at them like celebrities and
- 15:38Speaker 1: pointing at them because ooh their isidi. There's the old
- 15:41Speaker 1: women who like know what they're looking at and respect them.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And this just shows you how little recruiting they do, right,
- 15:48Speaker 2: I know, this is directly outside tarvall On, and these
- 15:51Speaker 2: people are having trouble like, ooh, maybe I do want
- 15:54Speaker 2: to be in Isidie. It's like, these people should have
- 15:56Speaker 2: no problem talking to isid Ie. They should see them
- 15:59Speaker 2: all the time. It's like in La like people should
- 16:01Speaker 2: know how to act around them. She says on the.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Walkthrough Tarvalin that most people don't know what an accepted
- 16:06Speaker 1: dress looks like in the city. It's ridiculous. They are
- 16:11Speaker 1: too cloistered.
- 16:12Speaker 2: It's the freaking pope.
- 16:13Speaker 1: So yeah, there's a lot of noise. There's a lot
- 16:16Speaker 1: of shenanigans, there's a lot of attitudes. There's the whole
- 16:20Speaker 1: how old is this baby? Is this baby too old?
- 16:23Speaker 1: There's charity, there's scams.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Right, if you've ever worked customer service, you recognize this
- 16:28Speaker 2: parade of bullshit that's coming from these people, right, because
- 16:32Speaker 2: it's money's involved. And so you got the rich people
- 16:35Speaker 2: who want it for status. You've got the people who
- 16:37Speaker 2: are starving who need it. You've got the and then
- 16:40Speaker 2: there's the and they show compassion by giving it to
- 16:42Speaker 2: the one woman who's starving and her baby. She's okay,
- 16:45Speaker 2: her baby's okay because she's taking care of the baby,
- 16:47Speaker 2: but she's starving to make the baby okay. And like
- 16:50Speaker 2: this just back and forth between the people and Moraine
- 16:55Speaker 2: and Suan to kind of show their character and who
- 16:57Speaker 2: they are, and to show that Suan has less problems
- 17:00Speaker 2: with authority, but also can kind of recognize the poverty
- 17:04Speaker 2: in a way that Moraine might not be able to
- 17:05Speaker 2: because she's a noble.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And yeah, the adventure aspect wears off really quickly, right.
- 17:10Speaker 1: They're excited until about the first thirty minutes and then
- 17:12Speaker 1: it just becomes a grind and.
- 17:14Speaker 2: They discover Jesus. They discover someone who was born in
- 17:16Speaker 2: a hay barn.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yep, yep, yep. It's not the Jesus that they were
- 17:19Speaker 1: looking for, but it is a Jesus.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Hey Jesus. I always had canon that that's like, you know,
- 17:24Speaker 2: the Christian Jesus was born at the same time. It
- 17:26Speaker 2: was like, hey, Jesus, but what about the dragon rre born.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's a lot of character building, a lot
- 17:34Speaker 1: of bits and pieces of attitude and world building, and
- 17:39Speaker 1: then yeah, there's this old woman who like knows who
- 17:41Speaker 1: they really are, like knows the status that they really have,
- 17:45Speaker 1: presumably you know, because she went to the tower. She
- 17:47Speaker 1: ends up leading the charge later to keep the soldiers
- 17:50Speaker 1: off of them long enough for them.
- 17:51Speaker 2: To finish taking Okay, I didn't make that connection. Good.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I like how the grandmother contingent plays a
- 17:58Speaker 1: role in this thing that young women are doing, right,
- 18:01Speaker 1: these two young women from the White Tower, all of
- 18:03Speaker 1: these young mothers, and then the grandmas like step in
- 18:07Speaker 1: to help facilitate at the edge, because that's what the
- 18:10Speaker 1: crones do. After you go through the change, after your
- 18:12Speaker 1: hair's gray, after men don't see you anymore, that's when
- 18:15Speaker 1: you start swinging a cleaver and telling the soldiers to
- 18:17Speaker 1: back the fuck up.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I've never seen I've never seen that.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I can't imagine why.
- 18:24Speaker 2: God, wait, those women exist. I don't know. They just
- 18:26Speaker 2: like I can't see them for some reason.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, they all just vanish mysterious.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Right once they're not attractive to me anymore. I just
- 18:32Speaker 2: can't see women.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they all get back on that spaceship and go.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Uh back to you know, I hope everyone knows that sarcasm.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But no, it's something that I've I've read a lot
- 18:45Speaker 1: of women talking about. Is like, once you get past
- 18:47Speaker 1: a certain point in your age and you've graduated up
- 18:49Speaker 1: to crone status, Like the fucks you have to give
- 18:53Speaker 1: are very differently proportioned than when you were in mother
- 18:55Speaker 1: status totally. And you see that here in the way
- 18:57Speaker 1: that these grandmothers step up and they're like, no, no, no, steal,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you need to let them finish writing the list, And
- 19:02Speaker 1: I don't care what you say about it.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I even appreciate the clever way that like Jordan recaps
- 19:06Speaker 2: where he's like, yeah, do you have one of those
- 19:09Speaker 2: what do you call him? Reader? Wisdom, wise woman, And like, okay,
- 19:12Speaker 2: those are all this yeah, where she's just trying to
- 19:15Speaker 2: come up with the right word. But that tells you, oh,
- 19:17Speaker 2: these are all synonyms in different places for what this
- 19:20Speaker 2: person is.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Right right, which you know we've seen all of those,
- 19:23Speaker 1: our characters have gone to all the different nations where
- 19:26Speaker 1: that's relevant.
- 19:27Speaker 2: But yeah, just to really, I really appreciate in reading
- 19:30Speaker 2: this how well Jordan is packing five books of exposition
- 19:38Speaker 2: into one book here, right, Like, there is so much dense,
- 19:42Speaker 2: dense information about the world in this book that we
- 19:46Speaker 2: don't necessarily need to talk about because for us, it's
- 19:48Speaker 2: you know, we don't need to talk about like Sidine
- 19:50Speaker 2: versus Sidar and what na Sidai is and agelessness, like
- 19:53Speaker 2: we've talked to it to death, but this is such
- 19:56Speaker 2: a good introduction and such a good way to like
- 19:59Speaker 2: give you all that information in an incredibly dense format.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And then the next thing I've got is Alida and
- 20:06Speaker 1: Mylin walking up and talking to them. I don't remember
- 20:11Speaker 1: what mylon Argania does elsewhere, but she is present in
- 20:16Speaker 1: the present day books. I just don't remember what she does.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Milon gets demanied, thank you Vuji, And yeah, we get
- 20:29Speaker 1: mentioned of the fact that Alida was assigned to the
- 20:31Speaker 1: Queen of and Or three years ago, so you know,
- 20:33Speaker 1: she hasn't pestered Moraine and sworn in three years except
- 20:37Speaker 1: for when she comes back to visit. She's pretty well
- 20:39Speaker 1: ensconced with Morgaze, right. Her dynamic with the Andoran court
- 20:45Speaker 1: as well established, and she's been nice to die for.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I guess she got assigned to the Queen of Andor
- 20:51Speaker 1: pretty quickly after being raised to the Shawl. There's not
- 20:55Speaker 1: a lot of time there. She would have gotten raised
- 20:57Speaker 1: and signed out pretty fast.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Right cool, because remember she requests it due to a
- 21:02Speaker 2: foretelling that she has right that she'll be at the
- 21:04Speaker 2: center of it, right So, and for.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Whatever reason, the Ameline says, sure, green ass sister who
- 21:09Speaker 1: just barely got her shawl, you go take over interface
- 21:12Speaker 1: with one of the most powerful queens. I don't have
- 21:14Speaker 1: anyone more experienced to send that's obvious, or.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Of a better temperament, or of a different adja that
- 21:19Speaker 2: might be more appropriate.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I mean, I guess the ideal war does kind of
- 21:22Speaker 1: make I don't know, Elida did good politicking to get
- 21:26Speaker 1: the assignment.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Uh there's a baby named Daniel, which I always think
- 21:30Speaker 2: of the fourth Boy.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah, r yeah, I noticed that. I'm like, well, I
- 21:33Speaker 1: guess people are allowed to have the same name in
- 21:35Speaker 1: this world. It doesn't have to be a connection to
- 21:37Speaker 1: the tier Rivers.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I know what it feels like, Jordan being like I
- 21:40Speaker 2: like this name and I wanted him to be significant,
- 21:41Speaker 2: So I'm throwing him in here as well.
- 21:43Speaker 1: So, yeah, Mylin gives us some good information. She first
- 21:46Speaker 1: of all tells Alida stop paying attention to these girls
- 21:49Speaker 1: so much, which lets us the audience know that this
- 21:51Speaker 1: is not just more Rain having a persecution complex. This
- 21:53Speaker 1: is an observable phenomena that Alida has a thing for
- 21:57Speaker 1: these girls. And also she you know, makes fun of
- 22:01Speaker 1: Moraine for being a prudish Kabrian and then explains that
- 22:05Speaker 1: war is good for baby making because anxiety makes people fuck.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Yeah. And by the way, Mylon is murdered in this
- 22:12Speaker 2: book by the blackaw jaw.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Oh. Oh, she doesn't make it, oh, because there is
- 22:16Speaker 1: a Demani this named Mylon. Oh my god, Jordan, Jordan,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I swear we need to do a singouse just so
- 22:22Speaker 1: I can yell at this man.
- 22:24Speaker 2: What is it with your names?
- 22:26Speaker 1: Okay, so Mylon Argania gets killed Arggia. This almost sounds
- 22:33Speaker 1: like Arganda, but it's not the same name, so they're
- 22:36Speaker 1: not related. Okay, Mylon dies. A different person named Mylon
- 22:40Speaker 1: who's not here, gets demanied. Oh yeah yoey oh yeah.
- 22:44Speaker 1: And then Mylon interprets her orders, thoughts or emotions so
- 22:50Speaker 1: that she knows what he's thinking, and then sees Morain
- 22:52Speaker 1: be so surprised that she looks right at Moraine and
- 22:54Speaker 1: is like, I can't read minds. And it's just like
- 22:57Speaker 1: the most it's hilarious because she's acting like she can
- 23:01Speaker 1: read minds while saying she can't read minds, and it's
- 23:04Speaker 1: very funny.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Mm hmm, Well, it's saying basically, I can't read his mind,
- 23:08Speaker 2: but I know his emotions, and when you've been together
- 23:10Speaker 2: long enough, like hey, right, just being with someone long enough,
- 23:13Speaker 2: you pretty much know what they're thinking most of the time. Anyway.
- 23:16Speaker 2: I don't know if you've experienced that with your husband,
- 23:18Speaker 2: but I've certainly experienced that with my wife. And you
- 23:22Speaker 2: combine that with like, you know their emotions at the time, right,
- 23:25Speaker 2: like that gives you a real big clue into what
- 23:27Speaker 2: they're thinking about. Right, If they're upset, they're probably not
- 23:30Speaker 2: thinking about puppies and sunshine and rainbows.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Right, right, right, Yeah, it's all human deduction, knowing the
- 23:36Speaker 1: human heart essentially, right, But.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I do feel like that knowing their emotion doesn't tell
- 23:41Speaker 2: you what they're thinking, but it gives you a big
- 23:43Speaker 2: fucking clue if there's someone you've been with for a
- 23:45Speaker 2: long time, for sure, if someone has an interaction with
- 23:47Speaker 2: somebody and is immediately upset, you're like, Okay, well I
- 23:50Speaker 2: know what they thought about that interaction, right.
- 23:52Speaker 1: They get the ass to die off their backs. Steeler
- 23:54Speaker 1: tries to take them back, the grandmother's force him to wait,
- 23:57Speaker 1: and then they take the life of the names real quick,
- 24:02Speaker 1: and then they ride back to Tarvallen real fast, to
- 24:06Speaker 1: the point that Swan has to be essentially bumper car
- 24:08Speaker 1: held on her horse by.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Soldiers because she's a terrible rider.
- 24:11Speaker 1: But then I know, right, she's just a terrible writer always.
- 24:14Speaker 1: But then it's cool. They get back and Steeler totally
- 24:17Speaker 1: has the opportunity to say that they were trouble and
- 24:19Speaker 1: get them in trouble, and instead he says, no, they
- 24:20Speaker 1: were fine, Like he does actually respect the efficiency of
- 24:24Speaker 1: the work that they're doing and the fact that they
- 24:26Speaker 1: did conduct themselves appropriately, And he's a crosherty old man,
- 24:29Speaker 1: but he's not unfair.
- 24:30Speaker 2: And in fairness, they didn't cause problems. It was the women.
- 24:33Speaker 1: They didn't. But he's respect and he even gives them
- 24:36Speaker 1: a respectful nod like midway through the day of just
- 24:38Speaker 1: like he's a hard ass, but he's not an unfair
- 24:41Speaker 1: hard ass.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I also want the lambs to somehow be a reference
- 24:45Speaker 2: to like the shepherd and you know.
- 24:47Speaker 1: More like sacrificial lambs. Sure sure they are being offered
- 24:52Speaker 1: up as meat. And then they get Katerine is waiting
- 24:58Speaker 1: to greet them when they get back because they're the
- 25:00Speaker 1: last ones back, and that is to summon Morain and
- 25:03Speaker 1: Moraine alone to the Mistress of Novices studies, because you know,
- 25:06Speaker 1: the war is over, because her uncle has been killed
- 25:10Speaker 1: also two of her other uncles. But you know, for once,
- 25:13Speaker 1: Morain and Swann are not in trouble together. Moraine needs
- 25:16Speaker 1: to be given this information privately because this.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Is outside information. And yeah, I think the horns to
- 25:23Speaker 2: me again makes sense. The sorry trumpets from the ieal
- 25:26Speaker 2: makes sense that that happened. And then a day or
- 25:29Speaker 2: two later the information gets to the isid eye.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Right, because it's going to be going at the speed
- 25:34Speaker 1: of fast horses in terms of getting the full details
- 25:39Speaker 1: to people, because I mean, well, no, yeah, pigeons, because
- 25:41Speaker 1: you're sending that information back to people who do have
- 25:43Speaker 1: fixed locations. Pigeons are terrible for intra army communication, but
- 25:47Speaker 1: they're fine for sending word back to the capitol. So yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 1: we're talking, you know, twenty four to forty eight hours
- 25:54Speaker 1: of lag for the full details to be hitting the
- 25:57Speaker 1: big important guys.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Mirrn seems to be a very good Mistress of the Novices,
- 26:03Speaker 2: like almost a little bit of a psychologist, right kind
- 26:06Speaker 2: and gentle and understanding and find but also able to
- 26:09Speaker 2: find out kind of what you want to keep hidden
- 26:10Speaker 2: and like discuss that with you and bring it up
- 26:12Speaker 2: with you so you can't like hide your secrets like
- 26:15Speaker 2: and force your emotions down. Like. She seems to be
- 26:17Speaker 2: a very good mistress of the novices.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like that is really what that role
- 26:21Speaker 1: is supposed to be. It's supposed to be there as
- 26:23Speaker 1: a physical enforcement arm as a last resort, and yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: the psychologist slash mom hug thing as a first resort.
- 26:32Speaker 2: And you know she's a good mistress of the novices
- 26:34Speaker 2: because she's what a black godja. Yes, absolutely, I forgot
- 26:42Speaker 2: about that.
- 26:42Speaker 1: She is black Aja.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Uh huh, she's actually black Oja. Well, this is Miran Redhill.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Oh is red Hill?
- 26:48Speaker 2: This is this is the the black Aja. Oh.
- 26:52Speaker 1: This is who Maureen's going to stab in the back
- 26:53Speaker 1: with her little knife after everything goes completely sideways. Mm hmm.
- 26:57Speaker 2: This is this is the bad guy of the book,
- 27:00Speaker 2: Mirror Redhill.
- 27:01Speaker 1: This is the biggest, baddest evilist guy of this particular book.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And she's so warm and comforting and good at her
- 27:07Speaker 1: job and just such an asset and they we're so glad.
- 27:10Speaker 2: To have you and it's very good at ferreting out
- 27:13Speaker 2: any secrets that you might have in using them against
- 27:15Speaker 2: you and reporting them up. So yeah, once again, Mistress
- 27:20Speaker 2: of the Novice is always black. They should have suspected
- 27:23Speaker 2: Sheeriam way sooner. Jeez.
- 27:25Speaker 1: No, right, like so swans the only one with pattern recognition.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Apparently the Keeper and the Mistress of the Novices are
- 27:32Speaker 2: the two roles that the black is like, we got
- 27:34Speaker 2: to keep those filled. Those are super powerful, but not
- 27:37Speaker 2: upfront powerful, but for manipulating the ambulance seat and manipulating
- 27:42Speaker 2: the people coming into the you know, probably just checking
- 27:45Speaker 2: to see who'd be willing to be black and who's
- 27:47Speaker 2: going to get recruited.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I mean, if you're the mistress of novices and you're
- 27:50Speaker 1: getting given all the secrets and all the crying and
- 27:53Speaker 1: all of the therapy, and.
- 27:55Speaker 2: That's all getting reported back to the Black odd Ja,
- 27:57Speaker 2: that then gets used against all of these people as adults,
- 28:00Speaker 2: as not adults. But as I said, I and.
- 28:03Speaker 1: You're gonna know who to obfuscate stuff from and who
- 28:07Speaker 1: to bring into the circle. You're gonna know whose secrets
- 28:11Speaker 1: you can use in the last eventuality and who can
- 28:14Speaker 1: be easily manipulated without ever letting them know that they're
- 28:17Speaker 1: working for the Black Aja, like she's gonna know.
- 28:18Speaker 2: All of it. Oh and mars Band brings up a
- 28:20Speaker 2: good point with Alida. She actually attached herself to more
- 28:24Speaker 2: Gasee before she like when she looked like she was
- 28:26Speaker 2: going to be queen, but before she became queen. And
- 28:28Speaker 2: so it was she was attached before more Gaze became queen.
- 28:33Speaker 2: And that's how like the IAID, I aren't sending her
- 28:36Speaker 2: there because oh we have this new queen we need
- 28:38Speaker 2: an advisor for It's like, oh, this person you were
- 28:41Speaker 2: attached to became queen, therefore you get first DIBs on
- 28:44Speaker 2: it is.
- 28:44Speaker 1: She queen at this point?
- 28:46Speaker 2: More gase Yeah, I'm pretty sure more Geese is queen
- 28:48Speaker 2: before the ideal war, Well, you work.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Gets triggered by the loss of t Grain though, I
- 28:55Speaker 1: mean like it takes a couple of years obviously, but
- 28:57Speaker 1: like the events that lead up to Laman cutting down
- 29:01Speaker 1: the throne or cutting down the tree starts with the
- 29:05Speaker 1: loss of t Grain, So like the Andoran throne is
- 29:09Speaker 1: in a weird place for a while. Yeah, I guess
- 29:12Speaker 1: I don't know when does Morgaze get crowned? With respect
- 29:15Speaker 1: to that.
- 29:16Speaker 2: See, she won the lion throne for Houster Cannon in
- 29:19Speaker 2: the Third Succession War after the death of Queen Morell
- 29:23Speaker 2: and Mantyr, who died. She died in nine seventy two. Oh,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and this is nine seventy eight. Oh. I don't know
- 29:33Speaker 2: how long the war was, but yeah, so the Third
- 29:36Speaker 2: Secession War basically was triggered by her death, and at
- 29:39Speaker 2: the end of it, Morgasee became queen. I don't know
- 29:42Speaker 2: how many years the war actually took place.
- 29:44Speaker 1: So yeah, what year does Morgays become queen? Oh and
- 29:47Speaker 1: someone s I put it in nine seventy four, so two. Oh,
- 29:49Speaker 1: it's only two years and all of that goes down
- 29:52Speaker 1: before the Ieal War starts.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yes, and so and so at this point, Laida's been
- 29:59Speaker 2: advisor to the Queen Vandor for years.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, okay, all right, all right.
- 30:04Speaker 2: And was attached to her probably five years ago at
- 30:06Speaker 2: this point before she became queen.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Okay, she still got as signed off island duties very
- 30:13Speaker 1: early after she's but she is very strong and very competent.
- 30:17Speaker 2: So I guess that's fine, because when did Alida become
- 30:20Speaker 2: like three years ago? God the timeline almost doesn't make sense.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's kind of my confusion, because.
- 30:28Speaker 2: If Morgaise was queen in nine seventy four, Alida wasn't.
- 30:33Speaker 2: She only became an ice of eye in nine seventy five,
- 30:35Speaker 2: which is a year after more Gase became queen, So
- 30:38Speaker 2: how she could she could have attached herself early and
- 30:40Speaker 2: advised like that. That doesn't make sense.
- 30:41Speaker 1: That doesn't make sense. Maybe we shouldn't have done this book.
- 30:50Speaker 1: It was a mistake, because we keep finding mistakes.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It does seem like it's got a lot of errors
- 30:55Speaker 2: in it.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Okay, So when did Alida become used to die? Because
- 30:59Speaker 1: I thought that was also three years ago, but maybe
- 31:03Speaker 1: I'm wrong about that.
- 31:05Speaker 2: She was raised to the shawl in nine seventy three,
- 31:08Speaker 2: which is more than three years ago. That's if we're
- 31:11Speaker 2: nine seventy eight, that's five years ago, So that's where
- 31:13Speaker 2: the error is.
- 31:14Speaker 1: But that's still weird to me that she was sent
- 31:16Speaker 1: out within a year of getting her shawl to be
- 31:19Speaker 1: advisor to one of the most important monarchs. Like, that's
- 31:22Speaker 1: what's tripping me up, as like she was really green
- 31:24Speaker 1: for that responsibility.
- 31:25Speaker 2: So here's what I'm saying she was raised in nine
- 31:28Speaker 2: seventy three, right a year before Margaze wins, so she
- 31:34Speaker 2: is raised immediately has the foretelling, or even before she's raised,
- 31:38Speaker 2: has the foretelling. Attaches herself to the one she believes
- 31:42Speaker 2: is the potential. Because you're halfway through the war and
- 31:44Speaker 2: looks like Morgase is gonna win, she attaches herself to
- 31:47Speaker 2: more Gaze. The war ends in nine seventy four, and
- 31:50Speaker 2: more Gase becomes Queen. Elia has already attached herself the
- 31:53Speaker 2: ambulance seat, has no choice but to keep her attached.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You needed a really good reason to justify pulling her
- 32:00Speaker 1: out of there and replacing her. Was okay, that's fair.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Alida's strong as hell when she's there.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Not to mention at the time, she is the most
- 32:09Speaker 2: powerful Isidai to exist, and we as we know, once
- 32:13Speaker 2: you become isidi doesn't matter how old you are. Power
- 32:15Speaker 2: is the most important thing. Alida immediately becomes a leader
- 32:19Speaker 2: in the tower the second she becomes Isidi. Because she
- 32:21Speaker 2: is so strong, she gets to do whatever she wants.
- 32:24Speaker 1: The Amberlin State could legally make her do something, but
- 32:29Speaker 1: it is why why would you fight that battle when
- 32:32Speaker 1: there's nothing to gain? Okay, No, that's fair. Alida's just
- 32:35Speaker 1: go get her.
- 32:36Speaker 2: So you give one of your strongest I Sidi to
- 32:39Speaker 2: one of the strongest queens who already has an attachment.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't fight that. If she took that on
- 32:43Speaker 1: her own initiative without asking permission, you're just going to
- 32:46Speaker 1: backdate that paperwork and say that it was your plan
- 32:48Speaker 1: all along. All right, that makes sense.
- 32:52Speaker 2: And the foretelling is between nine to seventy and nine
- 32:54Speaker 2: seventy two, which is after the death of Well, right
- 32:57Speaker 2: before the death of the Mantir, which actually interesting because
- 33:02Speaker 2: right the foretelling happens when a whole different regime. We
- 33:06Speaker 2: talked about this, it's a different regime in power. When
- 33:09Speaker 2: she has the foretelling, and the foretelling it just says
- 33:11Speaker 2: it's the.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Royal House of and Or is the key to winning
- 33:14Speaker 1: the battle. It's and then she attaches herself to the
- 33:17Speaker 1: new Royal House of and Or. But her foretelling was
- 33:20Speaker 1: literally about the old one.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Mm hmmmm mm hmm.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Man, she's so wrong.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think what was that three year quote
- 33:28Speaker 2: that you were working with that she was raised three
- 33:31Speaker 2: years ago?
- 33:32Speaker 1: I was the three year quote was it's been three
- 33:34Speaker 1: years since she went off to be the advisor to
- 33:36Speaker 1: the Queen of An. So I'm assuming that because of
- 33:39Speaker 1: the history she has mouth Warrion and Swan. I'm like, well,
- 33:41Speaker 1: that has to be right around the same time. Yes, yeah, okay, cool.
- 33:45Speaker 1: So I think we've sorted that out and I think
- 33:46Speaker 1: there's actually no errors there. The error was just assuming
- 33:49Speaker 1: that Alida had any amount of constraints placed on her
- 33:51Speaker 1: once she had the shawl. No, No, she's Alida. She
- 33:54Speaker 1: just does what she wants.
- 33:55Speaker 2: And we see that with like and even like once
- 33:58Speaker 2: all of our supergirls, once they be that's the whole
- 34:01Speaker 2: confrontation where they have to be like, no, you do
- 34:04Speaker 2: what we say from now on. With the senior I said, eye,
- 34:08Speaker 2: it's like we're in charge, We're more powerful, and they're like, oh,
- 34:11Speaker 2: we wondered how long it would take you to figure
- 34:12Speaker 2: that one out? Right right right right now, I'm guessing
- 34:15Speaker 2: it took a lighta no time to figure that one out.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, no, for sure, okay, cool.
- 34:19Speaker 2: So back to more rain, right, So, she finds about Layman,
- 34:23Speaker 2: and she feels a little guilty for not feeling guilty,
- 34:26Speaker 2: but she does not feel guilty because King Layman is
- 34:28Speaker 2: a dick.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Yeah, she says that literally, her father is the only
- 34:31Speaker 1: one of his entire like age cohort in that family
- 34:35Speaker 1: to not be a raging douchebag. So she's like, yeah,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I don't really feel bad that they aren't in the
- 34:40Speaker 1: world making the world a worse place anymore, like they
- 34:43Speaker 1: started a war. I'm not sad that they're dead. But
- 34:47Speaker 1: she does deny herself dinner as an act of penance
- 34:50Speaker 1: for not feeling bad.
- 34:53Speaker 2: And meanwhile, Miron is like, you're in shock, you must
- 34:55Speaker 2: be right, like.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Kind of the first clue that she's black Aja because
- 34:58Speaker 1: she is enforcing this worldview onto Moriana and not actually
- 35:02Speaker 1: hearing mourin for where she's at. She is telling Morain
- 35:05Speaker 1: how she feels, which is douchebag behavior. And so yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 1: Moraine goes off and has nightmares about anything except her
- 35:12Speaker 1: uncle's right.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Are these prophetic dreams?
- 35:16Speaker 1: Well, everyone in the tower is thinking about the strongest
- 35:21Speaker 1: Tiveran and the most prophesied person in a bajillion years.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I can't. It might not be like she's uniquely getting
- 35:28Speaker 1: prophecy dreams, but I bet like every eyes that eye
- 35:31Speaker 1: is having more or less the same dreams in the
- 35:33Speaker 1: sense that they're all anxious about the same shit. Also,
- 35:36Speaker 1: Rand is probably having his first dream cycle in this life,
- 35:39Speaker 1: so his dreams aren't shielded, but they are very accurate
- 35:44Speaker 1: to what's gonna happen, Babe lying in the snow, faceless
- 35:47Speaker 1: young man breaking the world. Like it's generic as hell,
- 35:50Speaker 1: but it's not inaccurate.
- 35:52Speaker 2: I have to wonder if maybe someone is having these
- 35:55Speaker 2: dreams something like someone like Mordan is having these dreams
- 35:58Speaker 2: unshielded and they're spreading out.
- 36:00Speaker 1: But she's got her dreams shielded, right, she does the weaving. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:05Speaker 1: no one else can get in, right, you're rewarred to
- 36:07Speaker 1: keep her dreams from affecting anyone else. Like presumably everyone's
- 36:09Speaker 1: got their dreams in their own little bubble.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Yeah, but infect anyone else's doesn't mean necessarily she has
- 36:14Speaker 2: protections on her own.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what Randon implies when he learns her from Asmodians,
- 36:19Speaker 1: that he wants to learn to protect his dreams so
- 36:21Speaker 1: no one can get in. I assume that it's the
- 36:23Speaker 1: same thing. It's a door, you know, it works both ways.
- 36:27Speaker 1: But you know, she's having very generic nightmare dreams. And
- 36:31Speaker 1: then she goes to crawl into bed with her girlfriend
- 36:33Speaker 1: and her girlfriend says, yeah, I'm having basically the same dreams,
- 36:35Speaker 1: Like the details aren't specific enough to be creepy.
- 36:37Speaker 2: But it's just like majure on we I think if
- 36:40Speaker 2: the dreams are happening to anybody outside these two, we
- 36:42Speaker 2: could say it's a dream thing. But if it's just
- 36:44Speaker 2: these two, then it's just their anxiety and their knowledge.
- 36:47Speaker 1: And Marian asks do you think Tomorra is having bad
- 36:50Speaker 1: dreams tonight? And Swan responds said, I don't have bad dreams,
- 36:53Speaker 1: and it's just ah, you think adults have it all
- 36:57Speaker 1: figured out.
- 36:59Speaker 2: We don't find out. We don't know anything.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I don't feel like an adult, and yet my birth
- 37:03Speaker 1: certificate sure does suggest I am an adult.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Now, Oh my god. Nothing has made me feel more
- 37:10Speaker 2: like an adult than having to train younger coworkers and going, oh,
- 37:15Speaker 2: I actually, I've been at my job now for four years, right,
- 37:18Speaker 2: and so I'm starting to get to the point and
- 37:21Speaker 2: I work a very complicated job where you don't it's
- 37:25Speaker 2: unique enough that there's nothing you can google, there's no
- 37:29Speaker 2: real way to train for it. You really just have
- 37:31Speaker 2: to do the job and get There's a lot of
- 37:34Speaker 2: tribal knowledge in the company these are very complicated machines.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Like it's nice job security because it's not a job
- 37:41Speaker 2: that anybody can do. You really do need years of
- 37:44Speaker 2: training to do the job, not necessarily because it's harder
- 37:48Speaker 2: than any of the job. It's just niche knowledge that
- 37:50Speaker 2: you wouldn't need to know unless you're specifically making what
- 37:53Speaker 2: we're making. So for the first time, I'm like, Okay,
- 37:55Speaker 2: I'm actually kind of feel a little bit like an
- 37:57Speaker 2: adult when I'm training, But if I'm doing it all
- 38:00Speaker 2: my own, I feel still feel like I know nothing.
- 38:02Speaker 2: It's just when someone starts asking questions and I can
- 38:04Speaker 2: actually answer those questions, and I'm going, oh, maybe I
- 38:07Speaker 2: do know a few.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Things, just one or two you want to do? Chapter six.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Chapter six surprises.
- 38:27Speaker 1: And the symbol is the rising sun of Kyrie in
- 38:30Speaker 1: because we're getting surprised with hey, you want to be queen?
- 38:33Speaker 1: You don't want to be queen? Too fucking bed, you're
- 38:35Speaker 1: gonna be queen?
- 38:36Speaker 2: And she's like no, that moment of like, oh, do
- 38:39Speaker 2: you think anybody else would be a good queen? She's like, nah,
- 38:41Speaker 2: they'd all suck, And I'm like, oh, you idiot, No,
- 38:45Speaker 2: do you not realize that that leaves just you.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Yeah, like, aren't you smart enough to anyway? Yeah, they
- 38:51Speaker 1: get woken up by Sitsuko, who was a girl that
- 38:55Speaker 1: will be sent away very soon for not being strong
- 38:58Speaker 1: enough to pass the test even become accepted. And I
- 39:01Speaker 1: really want to imagine that she goes off to become
- 39:03Speaker 1: one of the Kin, but I think that's just because
- 39:06Speaker 1: her name is made of the same basic characters as
- 39:08Speaker 1: a bunch of other Kin names. I don't think she
- 39:09Speaker 1: actually is in the Kin.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Is she does she? I don't have any reference to
- 39:15Speaker 2: her being sent away.
- 39:17Speaker 1: The era Felon Girl already knew that her stay in
- 39:19Speaker 1: the Tower would end in a few months. It's in
- 39:21Speaker 1: the opening paragraph. Okay, so I want to imagine that
- 39:24Speaker 1: she ends up with the Kin, but I'm pretty sure
- 39:27Speaker 1: that this name is not actually in the Kin. But
- 39:29Speaker 1: she seems like the kind of person that the Kin
- 39:31Speaker 1: would take in. You know, she was kicked out of
- 39:33Speaker 1: the tower for not od enough. Like if she pursues
- 39:36Speaker 1: her ability to channel at all, she'll probably end up
- 39:38Speaker 1: falling into their orbit somewhere.
- 39:41Speaker 2: The Watt wiki fandom has under speculation it's assumed she
- 39:45Speaker 2: might be a kinswoman.
- 39:47Speaker 1: It's a logical leap to make. The next name we've
- 39:50Speaker 1: got is a different accepted named Lessandra, who I don't
- 39:55Speaker 1: think we ever see that name again. I don't recall
- 39:58Speaker 1: what happens to her. I'm guessing she she's just some
- 40:02Speaker 1: person that never has anything interesting to do.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the only mention of her, which I mean.
- 40:08Speaker 1: It's fine. We don't have to have every single name
- 40:10Speaker 1: have a follow up. Some of them can literally be
- 40:12Speaker 1: read herrings. That's kind of the point.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Especially Novice isn't accepted because we know a ton of
- 40:17Speaker 2: them drop out, fail out, die, right, It wouldn't make
- 40:21Speaker 2: sense if every single one was significant later on in
- 40:23Speaker 2: the story, we'd be like, where are all the other ones?
- 40:25Speaker 1: I mean, arguably, there are few enough women here, and
- 40:28Speaker 1: the cast has been expanded enough that Jordan could have
- 40:32Speaker 1: done that. But I see why he didn't.
- 40:35Speaker 2: They hear that the idea really are retreating from three
- 40:37Speaker 2: different sisters, right, Sarah fl Rima and Jenet Rima, who
- 40:43Speaker 2: later becomes Simani. Right Demani yep.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I believe so Sarah Fell is a random advisor type person,
- 40:52Speaker 1: and Jenet I don't recall.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Sarah Fel works with Varren to study the writing Fanes writing, Ah,
- 41:00Speaker 2: there we go, and she's told Varren there are many
- 41:02Speaker 2: lost books. So's she's a Arren friend.
- 41:04Speaker 1: It seems like okay, all right, nerd, and she's brown,
- 41:07Speaker 1: so excellent. What about Jenet? What's her deal?
- 41:11Speaker 2: She is one of the Saladar spies? Oh cool, she's
- 41:15Speaker 2: one of the moles.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Oh okay, I knew the name sounded vaguely familiar, but
- 41:19Speaker 1: I could not place it.
- 41:20Speaker 2: But yeah, no, no follow up other than that she's
- 41:23Speaker 2: one of the ten. Okay, then, yeah, this is one
- 41:26Speaker 2: of those names where there's like more of her in
- 41:28Speaker 2: this book than in any of the other books, even
- 41:30Speaker 2: though she technically is in the other books, because again,
- 41:33Speaker 2: she's just referenced as part of that group. She's never
- 41:35Speaker 2: referenced individually.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Gotcha. So yeah, this news excites Swan and Marine because
- 41:41Speaker 1: now they know of an outer bound on the birth
- 41:43Speaker 1: of the child window. Maureene has now adopted Swan's view
- 41:46Speaker 1: that it is possible for them to be the ones
- 41:48Speaker 1: to find him and they.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Will be able to just take twenty years.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it won't because of your list, but whatever, I'm
- 41:54Speaker 1: speaking of the list.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Well, that's a question. Is it because of the list?
- 41:59Speaker 1: Right?
- 42:00Speaker 2: Does Moraine ever is ranmed does does she hear about
- 42:05Speaker 2: a soldier who finds a boy?
- 42:07Speaker 1: She does? I forget where it gets mentioned, but somewhere
- 42:12Speaker 1: it does get mentioned that they had heard a story
- 42:14Speaker 1: of a soldier who found a child. So I don't
- 42:19Speaker 1: think that there's any way of referencing if that came
- 42:21Speaker 1: about because of this research or other research. But this
- 42:25Speaker 1: is certainly them putting in the work. But speaking of
- 42:28Speaker 1: the work, Miren rolls up into the accepted group fully
- 42:34Speaker 1: beshawled and makes everyone think that they're about to get
- 42:37Speaker 1: summoned to their testing, but instead she's summoning Morain to
- 42:41Speaker 1: be put to clerical work because she's an emotional shock
- 42:45Speaker 1: over her uncle's dying.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Miron again, black Auja, right, like what's her motivation?
- 42:55Speaker 1: Also, like it seems like Tomra maybe suggested this, which
- 42:59Speaker 1: is like, so tom trying to put Morain in the
- 43:01Speaker 1: path of information about this.
- 43:04Speaker 2: That might be that makes sense that she wants her
- 43:07Speaker 2: to get access to all of the names, right, because
- 43:10Speaker 2: she makes.
- 43:11Speaker 1: It easy for them to do that. Right When they
- 43:14Speaker 1: get given a little bit of friction later on, she
- 43:16Speaker 1: immediately smooths it out and says, oh, if you want
- 43:18Speaker 1: to involve yourselves. I'm going to look the other way
- 43:21Speaker 1: and not notice.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know Miran wanted to send out sisters
- 43:26Speaker 2: and Tamira sent out accept it, right, so the Black
- 43:29Speaker 2: a Jah wanted to send out sisters, which consists of
- 43:32Speaker 2: Black a Jah.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Also, it just slows down your ability to catch the names, right.
- 43:37Speaker 1: The Accepted are a massive force multiplayer on actually catching
- 43:40Speaker 1: all those names. And you've got the great line from
- 43:43Speaker 1: Morain of like, man, everyone else here seems more ready
- 43:46Speaker 1: for the test than me, and like that's how you
- 43:47Speaker 1: know you're ready.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Suan mentions her uncle who died saving others, and that's
- 43:54Speaker 2: that story of Huan that she tells.
- 43:56Speaker 1: He goes back into the burning building because they're children inside.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Yep, yep, absolutely, which I also think is how Matt
- 44:02Speaker 2: should have died. But you know, yeah, yeah, he should
- 44:05Speaker 2: have the burning building being the last battle. But it's
- 44:09Speaker 2: a little bit about getting Moraine out of the tower.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for sure, Matt goes in because there's still
- 44:15Speaker 1: an important ally left to be recovered and he's willing
- 44:17Speaker 1: to die rather than leave her there. When there's a rescue.
- 44:21Speaker 2: He's going into the burning building. He just didn't die.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but he was willing to die, and that's what matters, right,
- 44:27Speaker 1: is that her uncle was willing to keep going back
- 44:29Speaker 1: in even once it looked impossible to come out and
- 44:33Speaker 1: his gamble didn't work out. But it's the intention rolling
- 44:35Speaker 1: into the place that matters.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Also, it helps if you have Jane Forrest Rider to
- 44:39Speaker 2: sacrifice himself for you.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, but I like Swan's like empathy here
- 44:46Speaker 1: of like, look, I've got some amazing uncles, truly fantastic men.
- 44:49Speaker 1: You know, would jump in front of a bullet for them.
- 44:51Speaker 1: They're great. I also have some shitty uncles that I
- 44:54Speaker 1: would not piss on if they were on fire. Right,
- 44:57Speaker 1: Like there is it's okay to have discern and different
- 45:01Speaker 1: emotional reactions to members of your family, Like I just
- 45:04Speaker 1: I like that Swan has that empathy there. If not
- 45:06Speaker 1: just like, oh it's okay, you're in shock, but being
- 45:08Speaker 1: like no, I have a complicated relationship with my malekin too,
- 45:11Speaker 1: it's normal. So yeah, Swan is being empathetic about uncles.
- 45:17Speaker 1: And then ah, the next thing I've got is Laris,
- 45:21Speaker 1: a pretty young thing, a plump woman short of her
- 45:25Speaker 1: middle years and more than pretty. She is already a
- 45:29Speaker 1: strong willed character. She is already an established force within
- 45:33Speaker 1: the Tower kitchens. But she is not high up in
- 45:37Speaker 1: the Tower kitchen hierarchy. She is not anywhere near being
- 45:41Speaker 1: mistress of kitchens. She has perhaps two chins, not four
- 45:45Speaker 1: or five. However, you know, even.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Plump, I would say, is mostly just nicely rounded.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Right, yeah, and short of her middle years, Like she
- 45:53Speaker 1: doesn't have jowels going at all. But give her another
- 45:55Speaker 1: twenty years and she is gonna be just a bowling
- 45:58Speaker 1: ball of doom all the young women. But it's cool
- 46:01Speaker 1: to see her here. Yeah.
- 46:02Speaker 2: The difference between what I would imagine someone who's like
- 46:04Speaker 2: a twenty five year old who's been working for a
- 46:06Speaker 2: few years in the kitchens versus a forty five year
- 46:08Speaker 2: old who's like in charge of the kitchens and in
- 46:12Speaker 2: her prime of life and in the prime of her
- 46:14Speaker 2: cooking skills.
- 46:15Speaker 1: But we should assume at this point that she's already
- 46:17Speaker 1: done whatever the wild stuff she got her near to
- 46:21Speaker 1: hanging a time or two that she tells men about
- 46:23Speaker 1: like this is after that period in her life, I
- 46:26Speaker 1: would assume. I would assume that once she becomes a
- 46:29Speaker 1: cook at the White Tower, she's pretty on the straight
- 46:31Speaker 1: and narrow.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Oh, I don't think so. I think she's still doing
- 46:35Speaker 2: pranks and shit. Yeah, I think she's still getting in trouble.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Or is she just establishing the underground rail red to
- 46:41Speaker 1: the kin with her colorful past?
- 46:44Speaker 2: Like hmmm, interesting the time, we're really hitting a lot
- 46:50Speaker 2: of timing issues where it's like, oh, I know they
- 46:52Speaker 2: were this, but before or afterward seeing them here?
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I assumed that her wild days were before she
- 46:58Speaker 1: became a cook at the White Tower. But we also
- 47:00Speaker 1: do know that she is the reason why the kid
- 47:02Speaker 1: are able to get girls from the White Tower smuggled
- 47:05Speaker 1: to them. So she's never entirely above board.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's my assumption, is that she's always just a
- 47:11Speaker 2: little bit of a troublemaker. She's just good at it
- 47:14Speaker 2: and no one suspects her. Yeah, not much more from
- 47:17Speaker 2: Lara's Laras except for this anyhow, Hi Laras, Hi, Laras
- 47:22Speaker 2: one of my favorite Like, I don't know that Laras
- 47:25Speaker 2: is one of those who I think you could almost
- 47:28Speaker 2: do her own novel.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, yeah, some like wild short stories about the
- 47:35Speaker 1: times that she went train hopping and wailing around Antarctica,
- 47:39Speaker 1: and like all kinds of bonkers stuff told in like
- 47:42Speaker 1: short quippy stories that'd be awesome.
- 47:45Speaker 2: The wiki says she is mistress of the kitchens in
- 47:48Speaker 2: this moment.
- 47:49Speaker 1: She can't be, because Swanna points her two mistress of
- 47:51Speaker 1: the kitchens in the books.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just saying. Fandom says Laras is working as
- 47:56Speaker 2: mistress of the kitchens during the Ideal War.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's canonically untrue. She's working in the kitchens.
- 48:03Speaker 1: She is not mistress of the kitchens because mistress of
- 48:05Speaker 1: the kitchens is not a position that exists, yet Swan
- 48:08Speaker 1: invents it to play Kate Laris when she is trying
- 48:12Speaker 1: to keep her from paying too much attention to the
- 48:14Speaker 1: supergirls during the sending off of the Hounds.
- 48:18Speaker 2: What does her title before she becomes mistress of the kitchens?
- 48:22Speaker 2: Head cook, chief cook?
- 48:24Speaker 1: But I don't think she's that now. I think she's
- 48:26Speaker 1: probably a lying cook at this point.
- 48:27Speaker 2: So they start going through all the entries, the written entries,
- 48:31Speaker 2: one by one as part of their day job right
- 48:33Speaker 2: now that they've been assigned to that.
- 48:35Speaker 1: They are transcribing the nearly illegible lists into something much
- 48:40Speaker 1: more legible.
- 48:41Speaker 2: And as they do that, they start doing a first
- 48:43Speaker 2: level filtering on the names. Right, they're not writing down
- 48:46Speaker 2: any of the girls' names. They're not writing anyone who's
- 48:48Speaker 2: born far away from Dragonmount. What they're doing is just
- 48:50Speaker 2: sort of saying, like, can we get a list of
- 48:53Speaker 2: people who qualify under the prophecy?
- 48:56Speaker 1: Because they know a much tighter set of search conditions
- 48:58Speaker 1: than TOMRA was willing to put out there. Her net
- 49:01Speaker 1: is huge, and Swan and Moraine are like, well, obviously
- 49:05Speaker 1: the girls can be eliminated. Obviously people know where near
- 49:08Speaker 1: Dragon Laut can be eliminated. Obviously people outside of this
- 49:10Speaker 1: very tight date range should be eliminated. And that's what
- 49:13Speaker 1: Tomr's looking for, but she has to be clever about
- 49:16Speaker 1: acquiring it. Hence the large data set.
- 49:18Speaker 2: And like you want to catch everybody who might be
- 49:21Speaker 2: in that small data set by having the larger data set, right, Like,
- 49:25Speaker 2: you're not sure if you constrain it before you even
- 49:27Speaker 2: collect the data, you might eliminate people on the front
- 49:29Speaker 2: end because of false information.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Exactly. There's so much bad information here, so much vagaries
- 49:35Speaker 1: and stuff like, yeah, that first data collection pass needs
- 49:38Speaker 1: to be as wide as you can make it. But yeah,
- 49:40Speaker 1: like these guys can instantly sort out half the babies
- 49:43Speaker 1: instantly right off the bat.
- 49:45Speaker 2: But I'm assuming by the time they're done, even with
- 49:47Speaker 2: the filtering, that they're going to come up with a
- 49:50Speaker 2: couple hundred names.
- 49:51Speaker 1: I think that's what she says when they Italian it up.
- 49:53Speaker 1: It's hundreds of names. Like they thought that it would
- 49:55Speaker 1: be like, oh, it'll be really easy, and it's like, no,
- 49:56Speaker 1: it's hundreds of names. You're going to have to go
- 49:58Speaker 1: to hundreds of different families talk to them.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Which takes twenty years of traveling because traveling is.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Slow because horses.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, do you think it would have been a
- 50:08Speaker 2: lot easier if Suwan had been the one searching. She
- 50:10Speaker 2: would have walked into village had been like you you're Taverran.
- 50:12Speaker 1: I know, true, but they didn't know that the dragon
- 50:15Speaker 1: were born to be Taveran. Those are not inherently well.
- 50:19Speaker 1: But to lose Darren Wasaveran though was super divisient.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Shouldn't be a surprise then, no, especially if he's going
- 50:26Speaker 2: to change the world as much as the prophecies say
- 50:28Speaker 2: he's going to. By definition, he almost has to be Tavereran. Right.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Would the baby be tavern though, or do they have
- 50:35Speaker 1: to be a certain gauge before the.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Globe comes on for her time. Yeah. I think we
- 50:39Speaker 2: decided that they didn't become tavere until after they left
- 50:42Speaker 2: the Two Rivers because the world didn't start changing for them.
- 50:45Speaker 2: But at the same time, like the world did kind
- 50:47Speaker 2: of set them up ahead of time. But that's more
- 50:50Speaker 2: the pattern setting them up unless Tavern but Taverian affects
- 50:54Speaker 2: the pattern. So where do you draw that line?
- 50:57Speaker 1: Right?
- 50:57Speaker 2: How is a GWayne not tavern? Yeah, but she's not. Yeah,
- 51:01Speaker 2: but the pattern still sets her up in a lot
- 51:03Speaker 2: of ways. Yeah. Yeah, So I don't believe they're tavere
- 51:08Speaker 2: until the patterns starts swirling around them specifically and their
- 51:12Speaker 2: physical location, which I don't think happens until after they
- 51:15Speaker 2: leave the Two Rivers and may not even happen until
- 51:19Speaker 2: I the world. Yeah.
- 51:21Speaker 1: On the other hand, it's kind of taveri nee for
- 51:23Speaker 1: a soldier to find an infant on a battlefield in
- 51:25Speaker 1: the snow before the infant dies of exposure, because it
- 51:28Speaker 1: literally was just pushed into the world.
- 51:30Speaker 2: And that is the debate we've had. What is taveren,
- 51:33Speaker 2: what is the pattern? What is prophecy fulfilling itself? Like
- 51:37Speaker 2: you know, is he Taveren before he's born, can he
- 51:41Speaker 2: influence you know, he needed tygrain in the waste for
- 51:45Speaker 2: him to be born in the way that he needed
- 51:47Speaker 2: to be born. Is that taverance.
- 51:49Speaker 1: He needed that one particular sperm from Jenduin, and that's
- 51:51Speaker 1: why all the other sperms didn't make it exactly.
- 51:55Speaker 2: It's just like come on, like at some point like yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 2: you have to say, so, that's just the past weaving
- 52:00Speaker 2: towards a result, and it's only once he starts really
- 52:04Speaker 2: affecting coincidence around him that's teverin.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'd say also you could probably pinnot around
- 52:11Speaker 1: when the talent for channeling kicks in is probably when
- 52:13Speaker 1: the pattern's going to be able to like take more
- 52:16Speaker 1: notice of someone.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Sure, and we really see it. I think we see
- 52:19Speaker 2: almost more with Matt and Parrien because they gain special
- 52:23Speaker 2: abilities when they become tavern. They were never automatically. They
- 52:26Speaker 2: were never tavern from.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Birth right right, because their births were not foreordained in
- 52:31Speaker 1: the same kind of complex way. They're just the two
- 52:33Speaker 1: friends of the dragon reborn and that is what.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Gives them that and so we can I think it's
- 52:38Speaker 2: much easier to pinpoint when they become Taveran when they
- 52:41Speaker 2: start influencing the world around them.
- 52:43Speaker 1: And again by that logic, Agwain and nine you can
- 52:45Speaker 1: be tavern too, especially Aguain.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Right right, yeah, I'm never right. That was the one
- 52:50Speaker 2: thing I thought the show did really well was make
- 52:52Speaker 2: them Taveren. And I thought that was yeah, of course,
- 52:54Speaker 2: make them Teveren. Now the whole who's the Dragon Reborn?
- 52:57Speaker 2: I didn't like as much because it was such a
- 52:59Speaker 2: gendered thing going into it.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Part I liked least was there are rumors of Tavern.
- 53:04Speaker 1: I'm like, these kids don't know what tavern are, and
- 53:06Speaker 1: nothing weird is happening near them. Where are the rumors
- 53:09Speaker 1: coming from? Who's rumoring? What events are getting rumored, and
- 53:12Speaker 1: who is making these rumors that these kids don't even
- 53:14Speaker 1: know what Tivron is. That was the part that felt
- 53:17Speaker 1: like the biggest stretch to me, genuinely. Well, that in
- 53:21Speaker 1: the gender thing, but that's just such a simple change
- 53:23Speaker 1: to make that it didn't like a stretch. It just
- 53:25Speaker 1: felt like a break, you know. That's the difference. So yeah,
- 53:30Speaker 1: they go back the next day and they start working
- 53:33Speaker 1: and then clerks come in and say, excuse me, this
- 53:35Speaker 1: is my job and Swan goes with it better to
- 53:39Speaker 1: ask for permission than forgiveness and says, just keep working,
- 53:42Speaker 1: just work while they go off and get Tomar. And
- 53:43Speaker 1: then when Tomer shows up, she immediately puts two and
- 53:45Speaker 1: two together and says, yeah, sure you want to do that,
- 53:49Speaker 1: go for it.
- 53:49Speaker 2: So here's the question. Did Tomorrow actually set them up
- 53:53Speaker 2: to be doing this or because right, we were told
- 53:58Speaker 2: that from mir In?
- 54:00Speaker 1: She says, the mother agreed that you can copy out
- 54:03Speaker 1: the lists that are near unreadable mm hmm. But then
- 54:06Speaker 1: Tamorrow walks in to who suggested it, well, because Tamara
- 54:10Speaker 1: walks in the next day, right, Tamara walks in the
- 54:12Speaker 1: next day thinking, oh, you would only want to do
- 54:14Speaker 1: it for one day, which, like I think, is kind
- 54:16Speaker 1: of weird, which does kind of suggest that Mirin was
- 54:19Speaker 1: the one originating the idea.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Right, I had intended you to have a free day
- 54:24Speaker 2: or to read or study as you chose, Tamara said slowly.
- 54:29Speaker 2: So she was not like and that has to be
- 54:31Speaker 2: the truth. She can't lie about that, So she didn't
- 54:34Speaker 2: intend them to be doing this copy.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Yeah, but she yes, ads it real fast. She says, oh,
- 54:40Speaker 1: you two want to be at the choke put of information. Okay,
- 54:44Speaker 1: I'm not going to fight that. I'm going to let
- 54:46Speaker 1: you have initiative, even though you're not is to diet.
- 54:48Speaker 1: I'm going to let you insert yourselves at will.
- 54:51Speaker 2: And then I was curious about this, like, what is
- 54:53Speaker 2: it triple negative that she throws it. I won't tell
- 54:58Speaker 2: you to not chance to do it. I guess that's
- 55:01Speaker 2: only a double negative.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Yeah, she just wants to let Moraine and Swan know
- 55:05Speaker 1: that she sees what they're doing, and she's fine with it,
- 55:08Speaker 1: using the analogy of this little inkstain to be like,
- 55:11Speaker 1: I'm not going to tell you what not to do,
- 55:13Speaker 1: because you already know what you need to do.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Anythink the inkstain is an analogy for copying down the
- 55:18Speaker 2: names or whatever. I mean?
- 55:19Speaker 1: Think about how the inkstain was an analogy with guitara
- 55:22Speaker 1: falling over and spreading that inkstain out and Tamaras saying,
- 55:25Speaker 1: do what you got to do to clean up that inkstain.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Whatever you have to do, I don't care, Like, just
- 55:30Speaker 1: clean it up. Use your powers to deal with this
- 55:34Speaker 1: black blot that is spreading across our future.
- 55:37Speaker 2: That caused by Tamara and her prophecy right guitar Athlon.
- 55:41Speaker 1: I would think that Tamra and Guitara were suspicious that
- 55:45Speaker 1: the Black Auja existed before this happened, Like I think
- 55:49Speaker 1: the Ieoh wore the decline of the tower, various deaths
- 55:53Speaker 1: that had happened in various nations. I feel like the
- 55:55Speaker 1: keeper in the Omerlin looking out at the world, getting
- 55:58Speaker 1: these foretellings of doom and gloom probably were like, let's
- 56:02Speaker 1: just assume the Black Auja exists and be pleasantly surprised
- 56:05Speaker 1: when it turns out we were wrong.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Uh yeah. But at the same time, she's you know,
- 56:09Speaker 2: she sets up this whole mission and all the word
- 56:13Speaker 2: gets out and they all get killed and she gets killed.
- 56:15Speaker 2: So she's not careful enough.
- 56:16Speaker 1: That doesn't mean she's not suspicious of the Black Otja.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Like Athlyn just says, does Tamara suspect the Black Auja?
- 56:21Speaker 1: And it's like, I can't imagine that she's so naive
- 56:24Speaker 1: as to think the Black Aja doesn't exist given what
- 56:27Speaker 1: is going on. She's the Omerlind, she knows everything. Surely
- 56:31Speaker 1: she's suspicious that there are some eyes to die that
- 56:33Speaker 1: are not fully above board. Most eyes to die act
- 56:37Speaker 1: like it's the most grievous insult in the world to
- 56:39Speaker 1: suggest it. But I just can't believe that the Omarlin
- 56:42Speaker 1: with that keeper was that naive.
- 56:45Speaker 2: And so this is the second time that they talk
- 56:47Speaker 2: about rules or can be broken. Right.
- 56:49Speaker 1: You have to know how to break the rules, when
- 56:52Speaker 1: to ask permission versus forgiveness. What is not forbidden is
- 56:56Speaker 1: allowed that whole brain pretzel suite of tools.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Right, And you have to know what the rules are
- 57:01Speaker 2: before you can break them, so you know when to
- 57:02Speaker 2: break them. Right.
- 57:03Speaker 1: You have to understand why the rules exist so that
- 57:05Speaker 1: way you can sir convent them effectively.
- 57:07Speaker 2: It's been mentioned multiple times.
- 57:09Speaker 1: It's an important part of being in Eye to Die.
- 57:11Speaker 1: It's an important part of playing the game of Houses.
- 57:13Speaker 1: It's an important part of surviving people who are Eyes
- 57:16Speaker 1: to Die and playing the game of Houses. Right, it's
- 57:19Speaker 1: a very important thing to keep in mind for all
- 57:21Speaker 1: of our characters as they go through this whole world.
- 57:24Speaker 2: The next thing I have is them copying the books.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Yeah. So yeah, Moraine sets aside this piece of scratch paper,
- 57:29Speaker 1: and Swan's like, bitch, please, I already have a little
- 57:32Speaker 1: note like, well, yeah, did you not know this is
- 57:35Speaker 1: what we were going to do today?
- 57:36Speaker 2: Right, So Moraine comes with one name and Swan's like, yeah,
- 57:39Speaker 2: I've already got nine that I've written down, Like yeah, yeah,
- 57:42Speaker 2: let me add it to the list. Yeah, of course
- 57:44Speaker 2: this is what we're doing.
- 57:46Speaker 1: And then we get the parade of eyes to die
- 57:49Speaker 1: angling for Moraine and her political power, starting with Jarna Malari,
- 57:55Speaker 1: which that name sounds familiar. I don't remember where else
- 57:58Speaker 1: she exists, but that sounds very familiar. Oh, head of
- 58:02Speaker 1: the Black Auja before all VR. She's currently the supreme
- 58:06Speaker 1: commander of the Black Audition.
- 58:08Speaker 2: She is so very black.
- 58:10Speaker 1: That's why the name is familiar. Oh so this is
- 58:12Speaker 1: the one that Shawmael tortures to death over.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Year that happens in this book, I think, yeah, nine
- 58:21Speaker 2: seventy nine, she has Tamara killed. Right in eighty two
- 58:27Speaker 2: she sent the Black Aja to hunt and kill the
- 58:29Speaker 2: Dragon Reborn. She's the one who does the vileness. Okay,
- 58:33Speaker 2: she initiates the vileness. Is she doesn't want the Dragon
- 58:36Speaker 2: Reborn dead.
- 58:37Speaker 1: So the buck stops with her in her head rolls yes,
- 58:40Speaker 1: and Alvirn is elevated into that voyage because she's a
- 58:45Speaker 1: pilot ash now so okay, all right, right, because.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Is she doesn't want Rand dead. The first three books
- 58:53Speaker 2: he wants you know or I guess. The first two
- 58:55Speaker 2: books he doesn't want randad. He's trying to turn him.
- 58:57Speaker 2: The last book he goes insane and wants him dead.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Then Rand wins kills him, and then again the Dark
- 59:03Speaker 2: doesn't want Rand dead. But most of the series they
- 59:05Speaker 2: don't want Rand dead, they want him turned. So Jarna
- 59:09Speaker 2: going off on her own and saying, let's take him down,
- 59:12Speaker 2: let's do the vileness, let's kill all these people. But yeah,
- 59:15Speaker 2: all these people being killed at her behest okay.
- 59:18Speaker 1: And that's why her name is familiar is because it
- 59:20Speaker 1: matters who the supreme commander of the Black Gaja was.
- 59:24Speaker 1: So yeah, and she rolls on in being like affairs
- 59:27Speaker 1: of state, never wait on matters of grief? Would you
- 59:30Speaker 1: like to be Queen? I mean, she doesn't say it outright,
- 59:31Speaker 1: it's a different Isidi that says it out right. But
- 59:34Speaker 1: this is the beginning of the parade of so none
- 59:37Speaker 1: of your relatives would be good rulers for kyrie In Wow,
- 59:41Speaker 1: would you be a ruler of Kyriene? Hint hint, wink wink.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Did you notice who's not mentioned at all here? The
- 59:48Speaker 2: guy who actually becomes the high Seed of Domindred barthanis.
- 59:52Speaker 1: Huh, that is weird that he's not mentioned here.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Kyrian and Lord high Seat of House diarmondread and cousin
- 59:59Speaker 2: to Layman. He is second only to the king in power.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Well, oh, it's probably because he's a cousin, right. He's
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: probably not near enough to the throne at this time
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: because they're working through Lamon's siblings and then all of
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: his nieces and nephews. Probably when Morain bounces out, they're
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: forced to go deeper into the family tree and that's
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: when they come up with cousins. That'd be my guess
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: for why he's not mentioned now. He's just far throw
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: away from the throne that Morain.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: He does succeed King Layman as the high Seat of
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: House demand Read.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: He does ultimately is the one that takes over.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: But it's just interesting that nobody brings him up. Right.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: He's the one who eventually gains power, and no one's
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: talking about him in this moment.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: I think because they had to dig that far down
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: the family tree before they found a suitable candidate. I
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: think that's why he's not mentioned. Is like nobody who
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: was on the short list was actually appropriate. But yeah,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: here we get the mentioned that tarre Gale is the
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: half brother and is married to the Queen of and
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Or reminding us that Morain is a Laine's aunt, I
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: mean half aunt. But whatever. At this point, I don't
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: think it matters, you know, and Tarangale will be dying
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: in like the next couple of years to Tom's blade. Right,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: if rand was just born, this means that Elaine has
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: not yet been conceived because she's younger than him, And
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: if he was only just born, then she can't even
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: have been conceived yet, which means that Tarangale has three
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: or so years left to live, right, because he first
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: he has to father Gowen and then he fathers Elaine.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: She's the younger of the two, probably like four years,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: three or four years left on his lifetime.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: And Gowen is older than Rand, yes, I think by
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: like a.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Year, because he's already married to more Gaze and they
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: have kids that are pretty you know, they get married
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: and they right away. Yeah, if she got married to
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: him recently, then that means that Gowain would yet already
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: be born and they're on the gap between Gowen and
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Elaine right now.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: He's assassinated in nine eighty four.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Oh, that's not like eight years, isn't it? From now? Right?
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Right year? Awehan, I wrought that we were in like
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: seventy eight.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Seventy eight. Yeah, yeah, so it's like six years.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Okay, So he must have like just married more gays
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: than in order for those birthdates to work out, unless
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: she had like three years between kids instead of two
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: years between kids.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Nineteen seventy he marries Tigrain and father is a son
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Galad in in nineteen sorry, nine to seventy on nineteen
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: seventy Oh.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Right, because Taran Gaale was also Gallad's father, because he
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: was already married to the Queen of Ander. Mm hmm, right,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: so he was married to the Queen of Ander long
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: before any of this shit went down. He's been out
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: of the running for exactly a long time.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: And then he marries more Gaze after the discipline disappearance
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: of Tigraine. Right, so he has to marry, so he
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: has Gowin. Tigraine disappears, he has Gowen, Tygraine goes as
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: rand iol War happens, then Elaine is then they have
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: Eline because Gowen is born in Oh, I don't know
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: if we have an exact date for his birth.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Nobody likes Godwin enough to remember his birthday basically and
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to respond to chat. Yes, Tarangale did have to give
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: up titles and claims on his kyrie inside in order
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: to not threaten the end Oran royalty he was marrying into.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: That was a whole deal with like whose name got
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: to go to the kids and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Yeah, oh okay, Gollin is nine seventy nine. Wait, so
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Gowin is younger than.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Ran two, but by like a few months though, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: they're really close to the same age, but actually younger
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: by some number of months.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Mm hmm. So Gollin is not born yet, I would
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: assume that she's pregnant with him.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I would assume that, yeah, he's he's just dating,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: but he's very much not.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Born yet, right. Mcgallad's around and is like six Ye.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Gollad is around and already far more mature than
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: his age would suggest, because he's dealt with a lot
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: of tragedy already. His father's probably paying a total dick.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: So the next person, Susama comes up, tries to also
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: commence her to be queen basically sort of expels it out.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Yeah, one per aja, every Adja sends a representative to
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: suggest that, and yeah, Stama Wrath from the Red is
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: the one who says, have you never thought of being
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: queen of Kyrie and yourself? She pulls no punches and Sutama, remember,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: is the head architect of the vileness publicly, she's the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: one that takes the public fall for the.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Vileness, because the Red is the people who do it.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, exactly, Oh yeah, this is where we get
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: the name on there.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: But she ends up becoming the highest of the Red
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Odja after Gleina dies. So even though she's punished because
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: of the vileness, she then later becomes head of the Red.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: She paid her penance, you know.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: Yeah, And so the chapter ends with Moray going, I
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: don't want to be queen. I need to figure out
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: a way to escape and get out of this.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Yeah. You ready for me to read us out for
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: the day.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: Yeah, let's read us out of this giant chunk.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Thus she gained another nightmare to join the Babe in
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: the Snow into the Faceless Man. She sat on the
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: sun throne wearing the shawl of an Isidaie, and in
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: the streets outside the mobs were destroying the city. No
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Isidai had been a queen in over a thousand years,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: and even before that, the few who admitted it openly
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: had fared badly. But if that was the goal of
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: the Hall of the Tower, how could she forestall it?
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Only by fleeing the tower as soon as she did
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: gain the shawl and staying away until matters resolved themselves
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: in Kyrie? And she spent most of that sleepless night
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: praying to be tested soon. Even tomorrow would not be
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: too soon light she was not ready, but she had
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: to escape somehow.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: And with that section one, which was three hours and
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: twenty minutes of recording, is done, and I'm turning recording off.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I am profoundly tempted to split this into two.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: I think that's totally fair to do.
