- 2:16Speaker 3: The Lovely, the Talented, You lover. Millie Snyder is here.
- 2:19Speaker 3: How you doing with Millie?
- 2:20Speaker 2: God?
- 2:21Speaker 5: I love that introduction?
- 2:22Speaker 6: Thank you?
- 2:22Speaker 5: Would you repeat that?
- 2:24Speaker 3: Very nice? The Lovely the Talented you love her? It's
- 2:26Speaker 3: Millie Snyder, Thank you, Dave.
- 2:28Speaker 5: I'm happy to be here.
- 2:29Speaker 3: It's National Radio Day.
- 2:31Speaker 5: And congratulations to every one of us who love the
- 2:34Speaker 5: radio and the people who love you.
- 2:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Oh there's a few, one or two. Okay. So I've
- 2:41Speaker 3: been doing this for thirty seven years now, my goodness,
- 2:44Speaker 3: thirty seven years. Five years with this company, but thirty
- 2:46Speaker 3: seven years total.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:48Speaker 3: What was your inspiration time to get a real job?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Huh?
- 2:52Speaker 5: Oh you've had those.
- 2:52Speaker 3: They're not fun, No, no one. I had to wear
- 2:55Speaker 3: a suit and tie. Oh good, that sucked now, I
- 2:58Speaker 3: know the job didn't suck in the student tie sucks.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I actually enjoyed the job very much. I don't know.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I mean a couple of things. I grew up in
- 3:07Speaker 3: a house where the radio was always on on their
- 3:09Speaker 3: local station. We actually at that time, even though it
- 3:12Speaker 3: was a small town my hometown, we had two radio
- 3:15Speaker 3: stations and they were big competitors, but we kind of
- 3:19Speaker 3: would listen to both of them. That and WKRP in Cincinnati,
- 3:23Speaker 3: the CBS television show from the late nineteen seventies and
- 3:25Speaker 3: early eighties. When I first I was probably in third
- 3:28Speaker 3: grade when that show came out, And when I saw
- 3:30Speaker 3: doctor Johnny Fever and being his fly trap and Herb
- 3:33Speaker 3: Tarleak and all the characters on that show, I said,
- 3:35Speaker 3: that's the coolest job in the world right there. And
- 3:37Speaker 3: I have worked with people that were just like every
- 3:40Speaker 3: one of those, matter of fact, of work in this
- 3:43Speaker 3: building with some that are just like Ron Hughes would
- 3:45Speaker 3: be Herb Tarlack, you know, the the Weasley salesman, Benus.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Fly Trap's got to be Woody. So Johnny Fever is
- 3:55Speaker 3: a probably Steve Animal, probably Steve Animal. So anyway, that
- 3:59Speaker 3: was my inspiration.
- 4:00Speaker 5: So it's a good one though, because there's a lot
- 4:03Speaker 5: of things that may do you think, Hey, I think.
- 4:05Speaker 8: I can do that.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I enjoy it all right, So let's move with
- 4:08Speaker 3: you everything.
- 4:10Speaker 5: First of all, let me tell you that our Mediterranean
- 4:12Speaker 5: Mindset Group now has a new location. We have left
- 4:16Speaker 5: the Goodwill Building. We are now meeting at the Trinity
- 4:19Speaker 5: Lutheran Evangelical Church. And where is that and that is
- 4:25Speaker 5: sixteen hundred Canall Boulevard, Elizabeth Street, very very good landmarks,
- 4:31Speaker 5: across the street from the Ben A. Jacob Synagogue, half
- 4:35Speaker 5: a block from the Woman's Club, and there is plenty
- 4:38Speaker 5: of free parking and that's a really big plus. And
- 4:44Speaker 5: also the good news is not only do we now
- 4:46Speaker 5: have a morning meeting, we now have an evening meeting
- 4:50Speaker 5: and that is at five point thirty. The morning is
- 4:52Speaker 5: at ten am. But in addition to that, Monday night
- 4:56Speaker 5: was a very special treat for me, and that is
- 4:59Speaker 5: I was a guest speaker for the Parkinson's group that
- 5:03Speaker 5: was at the Blessed sacrament in South Charleston, and they
- 5:07Speaker 5: have a support group that meets monthly, but Monday night
- 5:12Speaker 5: they had the largest crowd and I was very humbled
- 5:15Speaker 5: because so many people came to hear what I had
- 5:19Speaker 5: to say about Parkinson's. And in addition to that, the
- 5:25Speaker 5: one way of eating that is recommended universally by people
- 5:30Speaker 5: who suffer with this malady, and that is the Mediterranean lifestyle.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Why because the food is clean, it doesn't have chemicals, preservatives,
- 5:43Speaker 5: and not only is it helpful, I wish I one
- 5:47Speaker 5: of the things I said on Monday night, I wish
- 5:50Speaker 5: healthy eating would take Parkinson's away. But it doesn't. However,
- 5:56Speaker 5: it doesn't make it worse either. And some of the
- 5:59Speaker 5: eating that we do because we like it or it's
- 6:03Speaker 5: a habit where that's the way we grew up. And
- 6:06Speaker 5: I could go down the list of the things that
- 6:09Speaker 5: you know, push us that food is not in our
- 6:13Speaker 5: best interest and it aggravates, it takes a bad thing
- 6:17Speaker 5: and makes it angry. The Mediterranean lifestyle doesn't make anything angry,
- 6:22Speaker 5: doesn't make it worse, And this is important information we
- 6:28Speaker 5: need to learn how to eat healthy, clean food. Now,
- 6:31Speaker 5: a lot of people think that it's just about weight loss,
- 6:35Speaker 5: and that is just such a small piece of the puzzle.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Because eating healthy, you get better, you feel better, you
- 6:44Speaker 5: can do more, and miraculously you lose weight. And that
- 6:50Speaker 5: is something that people need to pay attention to. And
- 6:53Speaker 5: it's available, available in terms that you got to come
- 6:57Speaker 5: to it. And I set it up as a support
- 6:59Speaker 5: group because I believe that when you can be with
- 7:03Speaker 5: other people who share what's going on for them, and
- 7:07Speaker 5: you can share what's going on for you, you get
- 7:09Speaker 5: stronger because you realize you're not the only person with
- 7:13Speaker 5: this problem.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And I think, Melly, I think that's true of a
- 7:15Speaker 3: lot of different things, not just eating apps. I mean,
- 7:17Speaker 3: if you're trying to kick a habit, if it's something
- 7:21Speaker 3: positive or negative, it's going on. A solid support group
- 7:25Speaker 3: is always people around you to kind of hold you accountable.
- 7:28Speaker 3: And it's not always about holding you accountable, it's also
- 7:31Speaker 3: about networking and learning. Okay, this worked for you. Okay,
- 7:34Speaker 3: that's an interesting idea. Never really thought about that.
- 7:36Speaker 5: And one of the things about Trinity Lutheran they make
- 7:39Speaker 5: their facility available to so many different groups. AA meets
- 7:44Speaker 5: there and other support groups, and people need people. People
- 7:50Speaker 5: need to be able to identify with feel better because
- 7:54Speaker 5: someone else has gone through the same thing and you
- 7:58Speaker 5: hear that they can't do it, and you have had
- 8:01Speaker 5: a successful run, so you quite naturally want to share
- 8:05Speaker 5: that with someone who is down in the dumps and
- 8:08Speaker 5: it's a give and a take. And that's why it's
- 8:11Speaker 5: so important.
- 8:13Speaker 3: And when you talk about it, and you come on
- 8:14Speaker 3: every month and talk with this again, we're talking with
- 8:16Speaker 3: Millie Snyder. You talk about this Mediterranean. We don't like
- 8:18Speaker 3: to call it. You don't like to use the term diet.
- 8:20Speaker 3: You know, it's a Mediterranean lifestyle, lifestyle. And so what
- 8:26Speaker 3: we get a lot of times is people that listen
- 8:28Speaker 3: to this, they may be saying, Okay, well I get
- 8:31Speaker 3: ten minutes for lunch. Okay, now they may get thirty,
- 8:34Speaker 3: but they got other things they got to do. I
- 8:36Speaker 3: gotta run errands in my lunch or whatever. I'm in
- 8:37Speaker 3: an office or wherever. I don't have time for that.
- 8:40Speaker 3: That's the biggest thing, The two biggest things I think
- 8:43Speaker 3: to eating healthy. Our people will say I don't have
- 8:47Speaker 3: the time, and it is in some people's minds it
- 8:49Speaker 3: can be a little bit more expensive to eat healthy.
- 8:53Speaker 3: To those things start with the time.
- 8:54Speaker 5: You would say what I would simply say that you
- 8:57Speaker 5: need to eat, and you can eat eat at your
- 9:00Speaker 5: desk while you're working. It doesn't have to be just
- 9:03Speaker 5: a ten minute thing. It doesn't have to be fancy.
- 9:07Speaker 5: You can bring it from home. You don't have to.
- 9:10Speaker 5: First of all, we don't want you to go out
- 9:11Speaker 5: to the fast food world because that food has other
- 9:15Speaker 5: stuff in it, and that's the stuff that causes problems. Now,
- 9:19Speaker 5: in terms of expense, let's sit together and find a
- 9:22Speaker 5: way for you as an individual to let it meet
- 9:26Speaker 5: your budget, because we can do it with canned fruits,
- 9:30Speaker 5: canned vegetables. We have fish twice a week, and there's
- 9:35Speaker 5: nothing wrong with doing tuna fish. There's nothing wrong with
- 9:38Speaker 5: eating sardines. In fact, sardines are healthier for you than
- 9:43Speaker 5: even flounder or other white meat fishes.
- 9:46Speaker 3: What what about the sodium content? Though a lot of
- 9:48Speaker 3: people are concerned about sodium when it comes to canned foods.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Well, it depends you have to read labels and actually
- 9:54Speaker 5: see what you're buying and pay attention to that. But
- 9:57Speaker 5: at home, you control the salt shaker, and there are
- 10:01Speaker 5: other things that we can do. Plus, there are many
- 10:04Speaker 5: many seasonings out there that are without salt, and we
- 10:07Speaker 5: have to learn to use them. Sodium is one of
- 10:10Speaker 5: the things that makes your ankles swell in every other
- 10:14Speaker 5: part of your body, and it doesn't feel good. So
- 10:17Speaker 5: let's learn how to deal with that. Don't use it
- 10:20Speaker 5: as an excuse. Well, because sodium is in all the
- 10:24Speaker 5: foods that you bought. Let's learn to read labels and
- 10:27Speaker 5: make better choices for ourselves.
- 10:29Speaker 3: And there's been so much in the news in West
- 10:32Speaker 3: Virginia and we've gotten attention nationwide. And I'm not going
- 10:36Speaker 3: to turn this into political, but I'm going to say
- 10:38Speaker 3: for the food die thing in when it comes to
- 10:41Speaker 3: public schools, there are a lot of I mean, you know, again,
- 10:45Speaker 3: West Virginia's got national attention for something positive for once,
- 10:48Speaker 3: you know, and it has to do you know, the
- 10:51Speaker 3: school got back in session in Knawah County last week.
- 10:54Speaker 3: It's a couple of other camping Putnam County where I lives. Tomorrow,
- 10:58Speaker 3: when the kids go back to school, they're going to
- 10:59Speaker 3: be seen some different different types of food. They may
- 11:02Speaker 3: not even know the difference. But some of the dies
- 11:05Speaker 3: have been have been taken out.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Which I'm delighted for because and when and in getting
- 11:12Speaker 5: rid of the dies, hopefully they're going to get rid
- 11:14Speaker 5: of some of the other ingredients. But let's do it
- 11:17Speaker 5: with small baby steps before we say, well, we need
- 11:20Speaker 5: to also do this, that and the other. But one
- 11:22Speaker 5: thing at a time. I'm thrilled that they're taking that
- 11:25Speaker 5: stuff out of food. I'm thrilled because kids do not
- 11:29Speaker 5: need to have their bodies contaminated at early ages, because
- 11:34Speaker 5: it makes the growing up process. You continue doing what
- 11:37Speaker 5: you've always done. You know that old expression.
- 11:39Speaker 3: If you always do what you've always done.
- 11:41Speaker 5: You always get what you've always gotten. And it's old. Yes,
- 11:44Speaker 5: I say it many many times. I don't even like
- 11:47Speaker 5: saying it because it's the truth, and that's not a
- 11:49Speaker 5: truth that people want to hear. Our habits are formed
- 11:53Speaker 5: early on. When my children were infants, there was a
- 11:57Speaker 5: lady in one of my weight watcher classes and she
- 11:59Speaker 5: said to me, you ought to put sugar into the
- 12:03Speaker 5: baby food. They'll like it more. And sugar happens to
- 12:07Speaker 5: be very, very deadly. I just saw a book that
- 12:11Speaker 5: one of my members brought to the Mediterranean group, Suicide
- 12:15Speaker 5: by Sugar. There's enough. Yeah, I know it does. It
- 12:19Speaker 5: does cause them because sugar is not a friend. And
- 12:23Speaker 5: on our nutrition labels it tells us by the serving
- 12:27Speaker 5: how much sugar is in things. And yeah, we can
- 12:30Speaker 5: have some sugar, and we can do it occasionally, but
- 12:33Speaker 5: we also need to learn how to read labels. This
- 12:36Speaker 5: is a comprehensive way to take care of yourself.
- 12:40Speaker 3: What would you say to parents though that will say, well,
- 12:43Speaker 3: my kid is a picky eater. My kid's not going
- 12:46Speaker 3: to eat that my kid. I mean, we got a society.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I mean, you know this is old guy talking here.
- 12:52Speaker 3: You know, when I was growing up, there was a
- 12:55Speaker 3: plate of food put in front of you and you
- 12:56Speaker 3: eat it. You know, I never once thought of looking
- 12:58Speaker 3: at my parents saying, yeah, I don't like that, Well
- 13:00Speaker 3: then too bad.
- 13:01Speaker 2: You know you're not.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Going to eat. But what would you say to a
- 13:03Speaker 3: mom or dad or grandparents listener? And I'm going I
- 13:06Speaker 3: got a picky eater. My kid's not going to eat
- 13:08Speaker 3: these things.
- 13:09Speaker 5: I'm going to only share with you what my daughter
- 13:11Speaker 5: shared with me when she would make dinner and one
- 13:14Speaker 5: of her sons would sit at the kitchen table and cry. So,
- 13:17Speaker 5: of course she didn't want him to cry, so she
- 13:19Speaker 5: made him leave the room and he continued to cry.
- 13:23Speaker 5: When he stopped crying, he came back and he ate
- 13:25Speaker 5: what was on the plate. And I think somebody has
- 13:29Speaker 5: to be strong here. Now you have picky eaters. I
- 13:33Speaker 5: understand that. So we can also learn to accommodate that.
- 13:37Speaker 5: But we don't have to cater. We can accommodate. And
- 13:40Speaker 5: I make it sound very easy, but one of my
- 13:44Speaker 5: grandsons likes to eat a certain way, and so I
- 13:48Speaker 5: know that, and I make it for the whole family
- 13:52Speaker 5: so that everybody's happy and it doesn't have to be
- 13:55Speaker 5: something that stands out. But yes, a lot of us,
- 13:58Speaker 5: as parents, we cave. We want to make the child happy.
- 14:03Speaker 5: But what we're doing is we're giving up a valuable
- 14:07Speaker 5: lesson of teaching how to.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Go forward to Millie Snyder of a Dave Island Show

- 17:34Speaker 13: Show good Morning, dave thanks for having, us and.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Mister Bob peppers here as. Well good, morning welcome to the.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Show.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Guest So i'll let either one of you. Start i'm
- 17:41Speaker 3: an easy, interviewer tell us about the. Event who wants
- 17:43Speaker 3: to go first to tell us what it's all. About
- 17:46Speaker 3: i'll go.
- 17:46Speaker 13: First it's The building Bridges future Of West virginia Town.
- 17:51Speaker 13: Hall we consider it a community forum and we are
- 17:55Speaker 13: trying to make it as nonpartisan as. Possible we invite
- 17:59Speaker 13: it all members Of, congress the, governor our for state
- 18:03Speaker 13: senators who Represent, kanawa our ten delegates who represent some
- 18:08Speaker 13: part Of, kanaw and some local government officials as.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Well, okay what kind of a response have you had so?
- 18:15Speaker 14: Far?
- 18:16Speaker 13: Disappointing, okay we do have some folks Coming. Delgate Kaylee
- 18:20Speaker 13: young is Coming, Delgate Hollis lewis is, coming and a few.
- 18:25Speaker 13: Others We, unfortunately so, far no member Of congress has
- 18:29Speaker 13: indicated that they will be, there and.
- 18:31Speaker 3: That's been a how CAN i put? THIS i guess
- 18:35Speaker 3: it's been a, disappointment uh in a lot of. People
- 18:37Speaker 3: And i'm Just i'm this is not my. Opinion i'm
- 18:39Speaker 3: basing it on the text and the phone calls THAT
- 18:41Speaker 3: i get on this show and On Metronews midday as,
- 18:43Speaker 3: well for people saying that our congressional delegation doesn't meet
- 18:48Speaker 3: with the public that. Offer AND i will say, This
- 18:51Speaker 3: patty And bob in their, defense when we have seen
- 18:54Speaker 3: some of the things that we've seen on, television these
- 18:56Speaker 3: things that turn into all out, RIOTS i don't blame
- 18:59Speaker 3: them for safety, purpose but this is not that kind of, Event,
- 19:01Speaker 3: Bob so.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Let me speak to that because it's an important. Point
- 19:04Speaker 8: i'm glad you brought it. Up so we've also, seen
- 19:06Speaker 8: as has, everybody these these town hall events that just
- 19:10Speaker 8: degenerate into shouting, matches which this serves no. Purpose so
- 19:15Speaker 8: we've been very careful in making, sure particularly for the
- 19:19Speaker 8: folks that we invited to participate from a state legislature In,
- 19:25Speaker 8: congress that this was not going to be like. That
- 19:28Speaker 8: we were going to control to the extent that we.
- 19:30Speaker 8: Can we're going to control the event to make it
- 19:33Speaker 8: a civil, discourse and so we wrote a we've written
- 19:37Speaker 8: we have written a set of protocols and kind of
- 19:40Speaker 8: rules of, conduct And i'm going to be moderating the
- 19:43Speaker 8: event On, sunday and part of my opening remarks will
- 19:46Speaker 8: be to remind people about what civil discourse is and
- 19:50Speaker 8: how important it is that we listen and ask the
- 19:53Speaker 8: right questions in a responsible, way in a respectful, way
- 19:57Speaker 8: and then respectfully listen to the. Response, again you may
- 20:01Speaker 8: not agree with their, response and we hope to be
- 20:03Speaker 8: able to give people an opportunity to rebut but it
- 20:07Speaker 8: has to be done in a civil way so that
- 20:08Speaker 8: everybody has the opportunity to.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Listen and you mentioned that you had sent out invitations
- 20:14Speaker 3: to the congressional delegation had not heard back. From you
- 20:16Speaker 3: did mention a couple of the. LEGISLATORS i think you
- 20:18Speaker 3: Mentioned Kaylee young And Hollis lewis will be. There have
- 20:20Speaker 3: there been Any republicans that indicated that they're.
- 20:22Speaker 13: Coming, no but we did hear from one delegate and
- 20:26Speaker 13: one state senator very quickly that they were going to
- 20:28Speaker 13: be out of. Town AN rsvp is always. Appreciated just
- 20:34Speaker 13: let us know yes or. No but there's some way
- 20:36Speaker 13: simply haven't heard from at.
- 20:37Speaker 3: All, Okay so if we have A gop member listening
- 20:41Speaker 3: to the show right, now that's a member of The
- 20:43Speaker 3: house or minute of The, senate what would you say
- 20:46Speaker 3: to them to further invite?
- 20:48Speaker 13: THEM i, SAID i would, say please take advantage of this.
- 20:50Speaker 13: Opportunity it looks like we're going to have a very
- 20:53Speaker 13: good crowd. There there's been a lot of interest in,
- 20:57Speaker 13: it SO i think it's a great opportunity to do
- 21:01Speaker 13: exactly what we want to, do which is build bridges
- 21:03Speaker 13: and have a better understanding of where each other is coming.
- 21:06Speaker 3: From talk about that name building. Bridges we wanted.
- 21:10Speaker 13: Something that united people rather than divided, people so that
- 21:16Speaker 13: that that is really the sole purpose of the. Name
- 21:18Speaker 13: plus we have a beautiful bridge here In charleston that
- 21:21Speaker 13: we can use as as a.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Graphics it worked worked out for everybody from the marketing
- 21:25Speaker 3: department loved. IT i, GUESS i. Guess But Dave iland

- 21:39Speaker 3: dot net because what you don't know can hurt. You
- 21:42Speaker 3: either one of you can answer, This where did the
- 21:44Speaker 3: idea come?
- 21:44Speaker 8: FROM i THINK i think we were you, know we talk,
- 21:50Speaker 8: constantly the three or four of. Us we have a
- 21:53Speaker 8: texting link that we use and we're constantly talking about
- 21:58Speaker 8: the political environment and the situation as it relates To
- 22:02Speaker 8: West virginia in. General and we also are aware again
- 22:07Speaker 8: of this kind of lack of response from elected, officials,
- 22:13Speaker 8: partly as you, said because of the some of the
- 22:15Speaker 8: town hall meeting environments that we've. Seen so it really
- 22:18Speaker 8: just was it just came out of conversations that we were.
- 22:20Speaker 8: Having so we need to do something to allow our
- 22:25Speaker 8: citizens to ask questions and get answers in a non threatening.
- 22:29Speaker 8: Environment and so it just kind of started organically from. Conversations,
- 22:35Speaker 8: bob you, said you're going to be serving as as
- 22:38Speaker 8: as the.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Moderator talk about the, format talk about how you're going
- 22:41Speaker 3: to prepare for, it what do you plan to do
- 22:43Speaker 3: as the.
- 22:43Speaker 8: Moderator So i'm actually in the middle of writing all
- 22:47Speaker 8: of that information, out so appreciate the. Questions so the first,
- 22:52Speaker 8: thing of, course is to, interview is to introduce the
- 22:55Speaker 8: folks that are on the stage and thank them for being.
- 22:57Speaker 3: There we've, also because of the the the lack of.
- 23:02Speaker 8: Response from the folks that we, invited we've also added
- 23:05Speaker 8: a couple of speakers to speak on specific, topics so
- 23:09Speaker 8: we'll introduce. Them i'm going to probably start with a
- 23:12Speaker 8: kind of a general question to the to the participants
- 23:15Speaker 8: about the future Of West virginia and how they see
- 23:18Speaker 8: that how that how that's prioritized in their, minds and
- 23:21Speaker 8: then we'll we'll open it up for questions from the,
- 23:24Speaker 8: audience and we.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Hope to have a.
- 23:28Speaker 8: Energetic dialogue between the folks that are sitting in the
- 23:32Speaker 8: in the room and the folks that are on the.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Stage that's the that's the plan. Anyway and and, LOOK
- 23:38Speaker 3: i am sure in just the five or ten minutes
- 23:41Speaker 3: that five minutes so that we've been talking, HERE i
- 23:44Speaker 3: get that this is not this is not going to
- 23:47Speaker 3: be what you see on. Television there's not the police
- 23:50Speaker 3: will not be. Involved, okay they can be out, actually you,
- 23:53Speaker 3: know solving real crime and not that this is this is.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Discussion And, GUYS i am a firm. Believer And i've
- 23:58Speaker 3: Said i've been doing this show for five. YEARS i
- 24:00Speaker 3: have said on this show and On Metro News, midday
- 24:03Speaker 3: all types are welcome. HERE i have everybody have the most,
- 24:05Speaker 3: LIBERAL i have the most. Conservative if we can't talk
- 24:08Speaker 3: to each other and not feel like we're always on the,
- 24:12Speaker 3: defense and just be able to, say, well why do
- 24:14Speaker 3: you what's your Experience patty that made you lean a little?
- 24:18Speaker 3: Left or what's the Experience joe that made you go,
- 24:21Speaker 3: right And i'm just using those as an, examples then
- 24:24Speaker 3: we got nothing in my, opinion, Guys, yeah it's.
- 24:27Speaker 8: It's an important. Point and the other thing THAT i
- 24:29Speaker 8: think was worth mentioning is that anymore people can get
- 24:33Speaker 8: the information that they want to support their beliefs without
- 24:37Speaker 8: having it listen to the other side of the of the,
- 24:40Speaker 8: coin so to. Speak because if they want, to if
- 24:43Speaker 8: they want to see hard, right they can they can
- 24:46Speaker 8: Do Bright bart Or Fox, News if they want to
- 24:48Speaker 8: go hard, left they can DO msnbc or. Whatever and
- 24:51Speaker 8: they don't have to they don't have to listen to
- 24:53Speaker 8: both sides of the. Argument AND i think we're losing that.
- 24:56Speaker 8: Now so this is a way for us to try
- 24:59Speaker 8: to get people to come, together regardless of, party regardless
- 25:03Speaker 8: of belief and start listening to each.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Other and we've kind of, gotten, guys in this society
- 25:10Speaker 3: of ours and this political, culture we've kind of gotten
- 25:13Speaker 3: to the idea that if And i'm just using you,
- 25:17Speaker 3: know into little evidence, here but if you see a
- 25:20Speaker 3: far right wing member of The house Of delegates having
- 25:24Speaker 3: a cup of coffee with a far left wing people
- 25:27Speaker 3: lose their their dang minds over, It like why are.
- 25:30Speaker 3: You look what happened To Bill maher When Bill maher
- 25:33Speaker 3: went to have dinner With trump at The White. HOUSE
- 25:35Speaker 3: i mean he got vilified for people by by by his,
- 25:39Speaker 3: side and it happens on the other side. Too say
- 25:41Speaker 3: you can have, conversations you, know not your mortal. Enemy
- 25:45Speaker 3: it's somewhere we got to the, POINT i think it's social,
- 25:47Speaker 3: media to be honest with, you that we've it's politics
- 25:51Speaker 3: has become a blood sport now and we're out to
- 25:53Speaker 3: get the other.
- 25:53Speaker 8: Side, yeah there's just so much, anger and it's it's
- 25:58Speaker 8: unfettered sometimes and it's dangerous my.
- 26:00Speaker 13: Opinion there's a quote THAT i, Believe JOHN. F kennedy
- 26:04Speaker 13: said that you look for the. Commonalities we all love our,
- 26:09Speaker 13: children we all want the best for the, world you,
- 26:12Speaker 13: know just things like, that and very often having been
- 26:17Speaker 13: a lobbyist for, many many years and work with both
- 26:19Speaker 13: parties and work with county officials of both, parties there
- 26:23Speaker 13: there are. Commonalities and but these the divisions have been
- 26:29Speaker 13: stoked in the past few, years and that's what we're
- 26:34Speaker 13: trying to. Overcome you can sit and have a cup
- 26:37Speaker 13: of coffee with someone you may profoundly disagree with, politically
- 26:43Speaker 13: but you both love your kids and have a lot in,
- 26:47Speaker 13: common and that's what that's what you try to find
- 26:49Speaker 13: is common.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Ground, yeah and you know you you. See it is
- 26:54Speaker 3: a great point THAT i think that you brought, Up,
- 26:55Speaker 3: bob is if you're having a political, disagreement especially, online
- 27:00Speaker 3: and you, know which happens way too, often by the,
- 27:03Speaker 3: way both most of the time that you're arguing, online
- 27:05Speaker 3: you're not arguing with real. People you're arguing with. Bots you,
- 27:07Speaker 3: know these aren't real.
- 27:08Speaker 8: People for the most, part you can't, tell and you
- 27:11Speaker 8: can't tell anymore exactly.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Exactly but BUT i think what happens sometimes is you, say,
- 27:15Speaker 3: well well show me the, Proof, bob that you think,
- 27:17Speaker 3: this AND i give you a quote from you mentioned
- 27:21Speaker 3: Bright Bart Fox. NEWS i give you a, quote and
- 27:23Speaker 3: then you would not you, personally but you'd, respond, well
- 27:26Speaker 3: look look where that came. From and then then you
- 27:29Speaker 3: respond with something that you saw ON msnbc OR npr,
- 27:33Speaker 3: something and then well look where that Came and this
- 27:35Speaker 3: is where we are, now because everybody can go out
- 27:38Speaker 3: and they can find a source that best suits their
- 27:42Speaker 3: line of.
- 27:42Speaker 8: Thinking one of the things we've developed for this event
- 27:46Speaker 8: is a fact sheet so we've worked hard to put
- 27:49Speaker 8: put information.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Together and the question would, be, Though, bob whose, Facts
- 27:53Speaker 3: and that's And i'd say.
- 27:54Speaker 8: Thathtorically as much as, possible we've we've, Added we've added
- 27:58Speaker 8: the source to the to the, doctor so people can, say,
- 28:01Speaker 8: well this was there's some information from The Kaiser Family,
- 28:04Speaker 8: foundation for, example so we listed that said here's the,
- 28:08Speaker 8: source you. Know so to the extent that we, can
- 28:11Speaker 8: we've tried to validate our, sources and we've tried to focus.
- 28:14Speaker 3: On, fact not. Opinion we talked about elected, officials but
- 28:19Speaker 3: let's talk about the. Public why should the, Public why
- 28:21Speaker 3: Should JOHN, Q JOAN q public decide to come to this? Thing, Patty.
- 28:28Speaker 13: I'll use The Bernie sanders event as an. Example there
- 28:31Speaker 13: is clearly. INTEREST i think that people are confused right,
- 28:38Speaker 13: now and because you, know they're spending a we seem
- 28:41Speaker 13: to have a lot of people coming to spend a
- 28:43Speaker 13: couple hours on what's supposed to be a Pretty sunday.
- 28:46Speaker 13: Afternoon AND i THINK i think that is very telling
- 28:50Speaker 13: just in and of itself that people want good. Information
- 28:55Speaker 13: our brains are getting a little chaotic from the mixes
- 28:58Speaker 13: of information we're, getting.
- 29:00Speaker 3: And it's a it's a time In america and that
- 29:05Speaker 3: in my mid my nearly fifty five years on, Earth
- 29:09Speaker 3: i've never seen where We're And i've had folks that
- 29:12Speaker 3: have a little little more age on them THAT i
- 29:14Speaker 3: do that have said the same thing That he've never
- 29:15Speaker 3: never seen a time when we were when we were more.
- 29:18Speaker 8: Divided i've lived in three countries AND i will say
- 29:22Speaker 8: the same. Thing And i'm seventy, four So i've been
- 29:25Speaker 8: on the earth a little bit longer than, you but
- 29:26Speaker 8: i haven't seen anything like this.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Either, Right, well the event is going to be at
- 29:31Speaker 3: The Women's club Of, charleston sixteen Hundred Washington, STREET, Ea
- 29:35Speaker 3: sunday two to four h and your final selling point
- 29:40Speaker 3: for people will start with you, know those elected officials
- 29:43Speaker 3: or just the average person to come to. This patty
- 29:45Speaker 3: will start with, you why should people come to? This
- 29:48Speaker 3: which final was your your final word?
- 29:49Speaker 5: HERE i THINK i think.
- 29:51Speaker 13: They'll be among people who want to listen and learn
- 29:54Speaker 13: and participate and make it make a change in the
- 29:59Speaker 13: way things are going.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Now, BOB i.
- 30:02Speaker 8: Think we have to we have to really try very
- 30:05Speaker 8: hard to start dialogues rather than. Monologues we have to
- 30:11Speaker 8: start listening to people respectfully and stop just having an
- 30:17Speaker 8: opinion that you don't want to hear the opposite. Of
- 30:20Speaker 8: and that's the intent of this is to give people
- 30:22Speaker 8: a chance to learn and listen and hopefully get something
- 30:28Speaker 8: important out of.
- 30:29Speaker 3: It all, right that's at The Woman's club The charleston
- 30:32Speaker 3: sixteen Hundred Washington street Is sunday two to. Four Patty,
