- 0:02Speaker 1: I'm well, thanks for coming out. It just starts off, okay, well,
- 0:15Speaker 1: you know, focusing on trying to get a win. And
- 0:18Speaker 1: you know, you guys cover sports, you know, the difference
- 0:20Speaker 1: between winning and losing is you know, is that much.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But that's that's a mile, you know. So we're working
- 0:26Speaker 1: tirelessly twenty four to seven and just trying to try
- 0:29Speaker 1: to close that gap, you know. And what's keeping us
- 0:31Speaker 1: from closing that gap, And there's you know, a mirady things,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and so we just have to keep focusing on them
- 0:35Speaker 1: and emphasizing them and practicing them and expecting our guys
- 0:42Speaker 1: to go out there on Saturdays and execute them. So
- 0:46Speaker 1: but I'm encouraged by the resolve of the players, the determination,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the attitude and uh, you know, being close. It doesn't
- 0:54Speaker 1: matter unless you win. So we've got to We've got
- 0:56Speaker 1: to do that, and I feel like this is the
- 0:58Speaker 1: right group to do it, you know. But I'm encouraged
- 1:02Speaker 1: at the same I'm I'm disappointed, but I'm not discouraged.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I shouldn't say I'm encouraged. I'm not discouraged. I feel
- 1:07Speaker 1: like we've got the type of people around here that
- 1:12Speaker 1: that will make the commitment to getting it done, and
- 1:13Speaker 1: we'll get it done.
- 1:14Speaker 2: So you guys got beat up a little bit Saturday.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Do you have an update some peoples to pressure.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't see. I was wondering how people knew
- 1:25Speaker 1: that he was out. Well, we knew he was out
- 1:27Speaker 1: from the game. But mel Actually he has surgery in
- 1:31Speaker 1: about an hour. They're gonnaut a little plate in there.
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's probably sixty eighth Yeah, clavical collarbone. Is that the
- 1:38Speaker 1: same thing? Yeah, a different opposite shoulder that he had
- 1:43Speaker 1: surgery on this off season because you know, he had
- 1:45Speaker 1: to he had to recover from surgery this offseason. So
- 1:50Speaker 1: you know, you don't ever like to put a time
- 1:53Speaker 1: limit on what it's going to take a guy to recover.
- 1:55Speaker 1: But it's a little bit different when you're dealing with
- 1:56Speaker 1: a bone. You know, there's there's a little more clarity.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So they six, say sixty eight weeks, So you know,
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think the best case scenario is that, you know,
- 2:04Speaker 1: we get him back for you know, the last couple
- 2:07Speaker 1: of games of the season, and if we can, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: get to a bowl, get to a bowl. We'll have
- 2:12Speaker 1: to make decisions based upon how much he's played and
- 2:14Speaker 1: what he thinks whether it's you know, uh, whether it's
- 2:19Speaker 1: the right decision to play him or you know, give
- 2:21Speaker 1: him a chance to red shirt and save a year. So,
- 2:24Speaker 1: but we've got you know, we've got a good, a
- 2:26Speaker 1: good room, a good, a good group of running backs.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We'll certainly miss him, you know. He's an explosive player
- 2:31Speaker 1: for us. But we've got guys can go in there
- 2:33Speaker 1: and get the job done. Yeah, Vic showed up, you know,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I mean I thought that he did. I think Vic's
- 2:42Speaker 1: done a good job this year. You know, he hasn't
- 2:43Speaker 1: gotten a lot of touches, but he made the most
- 2:45Speaker 1: of him that. He had a really nice run the
- 2:47Speaker 1: other day. A couple of them got to eliminate that
- 2:50Speaker 1: fumble that got called back. Uh, you know, we haven't
- 2:53Speaker 1: really seen Oliver until the other day. He got to
- 2:58Speaker 1: carry ran it up in there hard. Jay's a guy
- 3:00Speaker 1: that can do things for us. You've seen that. We've
- 3:02Speaker 1: you Terrence back there, We've got Meach, you know. So
- 3:07Speaker 1: it's a good room. But you're you're always going to
- 3:09Speaker 1: miss a play like a playmaker like mel you know,
- 3:12Speaker 1: especially because he does things on offense and he's a
- 3:14Speaker 1: good kick returner as well. But that's the nature of
- 3:16Speaker 1: the game, and we're all, you know, our thoughts and
- 3:18Speaker 1: prayers are with him as he goes into surgery, and
- 3:20Speaker 1: we know he'll he'll recover fast, and he'll do all
- 3:22Speaker 1: the work that he needs to do to get back
- 3:24Speaker 1: out here, and we know that he'll be around the
- 3:26Speaker 1: team and his infectious energy will help us. Victor is
- 3:33Speaker 1: experienced number one. You know, he runs hard. He's a
- 3:37Speaker 1: multi talented guy in terms of he can run. He
- 3:40Speaker 1: is good out of the backfield catching the ball, and
- 3:43Speaker 1: he's a good pass protector. You know, he's a very
- 3:45Speaker 1: smart player. And I think he gives us juice. You know.
- 3:48Speaker 1: He he runs hard, you know, kind of I don't
- 3:52Speaker 1: want to say it, out of control style, just an
- 3:54Speaker 1: angry type of runner. And he finds the end zone.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You know, he's found the end zone a lot around
- 3:59Speaker 1: here for the number of touches that he's had. Sure show.
- 4:07Speaker 3: A person I don't see like the coast, but I
- 4:10Speaker 3: see it's the team that's two plays away.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Why man, I love your positive attitude, Joe, thank you. Uh.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You know, it's as a coach you get a little
- 4:25Speaker 1: conflicted because you know what you're saying is so true, right,
- 4:28Speaker 1: it's a couple of plays, a couple of plays. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: if you don't if you don't dive in really deep
- 4:33Speaker 1: on on why those couple of plays went the wrong
- 4:36Speaker 1: way and not just say next time, we'll get it
- 4:39Speaker 1: next time, or say, hey, we have to make that play.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But you have for players, you have to define what
- 4:44Speaker 1: it's going to take to make that play, not just
- 4:46Speaker 1: say next time you got to make it. You got
- 4:48Speaker 1: to go back and say, Okay, why didn't we make
- 4:49Speaker 1: that play? Do we not do a good job of
- 4:51Speaker 1: coaching the right technique? You know, we in the wrong
- 4:54Speaker 1: wrong uh coverage your play? You know, So give them
- 4:58Speaker 1: you have to give them a plan of action and
- 5:00Speaker 1: then you expect them to take that plan action and
- 5:02Speaker 1: put it into action. And I feel the same way,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know, I feel like we're like I said, I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 1: we're that close. But in competitive athletics, as you guys know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: that close is you know, it's like the Grand Canyon
- 5:13Speaker 1: unless you close it. And so that's our objective. And
- 5:16Speaker 1: as I started this press by saying, is what gives
- 5:19Speaker 1: me a huge amount of optimism is that nobody is
- 5:23Speaker 1: satisfied with being close, and everyone is really bothered by
- 5:29Speaker 1: the fact that we haven't got it gotten it done,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and yet it's a positive energy rather than a negative
- 5:36Speaker 1: energy when I say about they're bothered by it. It's
- 5:38Speaker 1: nobody's festering on it, but everyone is resolved to do
- 5:42Speaker 1: what we have to do to get that gap close,
- 5:46Speaker 1: to make those plays that you're talking about. You know,
- 5:52Speaker 1: it's just been two tough weeks, losing an overtime, given
- 5:56Speaker 1: all the amount of given the amount of work that
- 5:57Speaker 1: we put into into game situations. So he's gonna keep
- 6:02Speaker 1: working and we're gonna, you know, keep tearing it apart
- 6:04Speaker 1: and putting it back together better as we go. I'm
- 6:09Speaker 1: sorry say I missed the.
- 6:11Speaker 2: First part out of thus would the opportunity that he
- 6:14Speaker 2: stands did well.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think he's very athletic, and I think he's got
- 6:19Speaker 1: a lot of confidence. He works hard, he's very smart,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and he just turned eighteen a few weeks ago, so
- 6:25Speaker 1: he's very young, but he doesn't play young. He plays
- 6:29Speaker 1: with a lot of enthusiasm. I think he's he's got
- 6:32Speaker 1: a chance to be a very very good player. You know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: he's going to mature physically, is he is. He goes
- 6:37Speaker 1: through the years here, But I think We're looking at
- 6:38Speaker 1: a guy that is going to be a good player,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and we have a lot of confidence putting him on
- 6:42Speaker 1: the field right now. So you know, when Devin missed
- 6:45Speaker 1: a few plays the other day because of you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: being nicked up a little bit, you know, you felt
- 6:50Speaker 1: good putting Osyrus out there, you know, But Devin's Devin's
- 6:53Speaker 1: a starter, and Devin's playing very well. So most of
- 6:57Speaker 1: those guys that got nicked, you know, we we finished
- 6:59Speaker 1: the game without Juice, without Carston, without obviously without Mail,
- 7:05Speaker 1: without Tyreese, Vincent. He came back in after he heard
- 7:10Speaker 1: his hamstring. I was worried it was his knee. So
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know, you walk off the field and you're like, really,
- 7:15Speaker 1: oh my gosh, we're really beat up. But everyone was
- 7:17Speaker 1: back at practice today except for Mel so everyone recovered. Well.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You know, we got a great athletic trainers and doctors
- 7:25Speaker 1: and they're do an amazing job. Like their commitment to
- 7:27Speaker 1: these guys, you know, on Saturdays and after the game
- 7:29Speaker 1: and they come in here Sundays for hours and they
- 7:32Speaker 1: just work with them and our guys respond.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Part gave up a lot of the seasons last year
- 7:38Speaker 2: because he wanted to be.
- 7:39Speaker 3: A different place where you really showcase himself.
- 7:42Speaker 1: What have you seen in him that you know, what
- 7:45Speaker 1: does he get.
- 7:45Speaker 2: To that defense?
- 7:47Speaker 1: I love his energy, and I love his enthusiasm, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: I love his intensity. He plays the game the way
- 7:52Speaker 1: he's supposed to play it. He practices the way he's
- 7:54Speaker 1: supposed to practice, you know, great intensity, focus. I didn't
- 7:59Speaker 1: really as he'd be as good a pass rusher as
- 8:01Speaker 1: he is. I think he's got five sacks. Five. I
- 8:03Speaker 1: know we've got ten as a team, which is pretty
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, we're doing pretty pretty well there. I think
- 8:09Speaker 1: he's instinctual, and he knows has a nose for the ball,
- 8:12Speaker 1: as they say, you know, he he he's played a
- 8:16Speaker 1: lot of football. He's been well coached, you know, I
- 8:18Speaker 1: know the guys that have coached him through his career,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and you know, he's been well coached. And now he's
- 8:21Speaker 1: got Seriki. So you combine all those things and you
- 8:24Speaker 1: see a player who's really maximizing the opportunity that he
- 8:26Speaker 1: created for himself. A lot of times there's a negative
- 8:29Speaker 1: connotation with a guy that looks out for himself a
- 8:32Speaker 1: little bit and goes into the portal and says, I'm
- 8:34Speaker 1: in a red shirt but you know, in this day
- 8:36Speaker 1: and age, we have to be a little bit more
- 8:38Speaker 1: flexible than we were in the past as coaches to
- 8:40Speaker 1: guys that do that, you know, and not necessarily see
- 8:42Speaker 1: it as a negative, but really investigate why it happened.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I know, you know, in years past, you might say,
- 8:49Speaker 1: got a guy quit on his team, you know, you might,
- 8:51Speaker 1: And I just don't think that that's true all the
- 8:54Speaker 1: time anymore. So I think it's an adjustment we have
- 8:56Speaker 1: to make. And thankfully with a guy like Brian, you know,
- 8:58Speaker 1: we had people that we knew, uh that were close
- 9:02Speaker 1: to him that could confirm what kind of guy he was,
- 9:05Speaker 1: and and we're lucky we have him.
- 9:07Speaker 2: He said last week he didn't think that chemistry was
- 9:09Speaker 2: the issue with the defense, that they they would get it.
- 9:15Speaker 3: After looking at it last week, do you did you
- 9:18Speaker 3: point better what's missing that they're not clicking the way.
- 9:23Speaker 1: They should be right now? Yeah, And I still don't
- 9:25Speaker 1: think it's chemistry. I think it's consistency. It's really like
- 9:29Speaker 1: I talked about last week after the Syracuse game, being
- 9:32Speaker 1: consistent in our execution and in our effort, and we
- 9:35Speaker 1: have not found that to the level we need to
- 9:37Speaker 1: find it. To be a a good defense like we've
- 9:40Speaker 1: shown in spurts, you know. And so it's that level
- 9:44Speaker 1: of con consistency that we're working towards, you know. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: it's it's being really demanding on ourselves and them on
- 9:50Speaker 1: themselves and and exacting and precise and how we teach
- 9:54Speaker 1: and coach, and and it's them taking good notes and
- 9:57Speaker 1: reviewing their notes and watching extra thelm and and and
- 10:01Speaker 1: then in those critical moments and games, having you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: having the discipline the mental toughness to to stay right
- 10:09Speaker 1: where there's supposed to be doing exactly what they're supposed
- 10:12Speaker 1: to do. And we just haven't been able to find
- 10:14Speaker 1: that yet. And that's that's disappointing, especially because it's it's
- 10:17Speaker 1: a mature group. So maybe some of that's you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: not being as familiar with the system as you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: we would like them to be, you know, as new
- 10:25Speaker 1: guys coming in. But I think it's just we just
- 10:27Speaker 1: have to continue to emphasize consistency. You feel, yes, well,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you know, you feel it during practice, and yet you
- 10:42Speaker 1: have to see it during a game, you know. I
- 10:45Speaker 1: went into last week's game, I think we all did,
- 10:47Speaker 1: feeling like that we'd made a lot of strides on
- 10:49Speaker 1: defense and that if we played, uh, just a little
- 10:52Speaker 1: bit more consistent in certain situations, we'd be a lot better.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And you know, we were not correct. You know, we
- 10:58Speaker 1: did not play well. We did not play well statistically,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we did not execute well. The one thing that I
- 11:06Speaker 1: will tell you that is encouraging is that the you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you talk about a guy like Brian, and we have
- 11:09Speaker 1: a lot of guys like Brian's. It's so important to them.
- 11:11Speaker 1: You know, they don't shrug it off, they don't they
- 11:15Speaker 1: don't take anything for granted. You know, they don't try
- 11:18Speaker 1: to rationalize anything. They hit it head on and that's
- 11:20Speaker 1: how you get better. But you know you feel it
- 11:22Speaker 1: during practice, but you got to see it during a game.
- 11:24Speaker 1: That's you go out and perform. So, coaches, that means
- 11:31Speaker 1: about what I said that No, I think I meant like,
- 11:36Speaker 1: as coaches, it's our responsibility to put them in the
- 11:39Speaker 1: position to do what they do best so they have
- 11:41Speaker 1: the opportunity to make plays. You know, it's not asking
- 11:44Speaker 1: someone to do something that they're physically not capable of doing.
- 11:48Speaker 1: You know, their body structure there or there. You know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: their athleticism doesn't lend itself to the technique or to
- 11:55Speaker 1: the to the function that you're trying to get them
- 11:57Speaker 1: to perform. And so it's our responsibility to make sure
- 12:01Speaker 1: that we're putting guys in position to do what they
- 12:03Speaker 1: do best and eliminating opportunities to put them in position
- 12:07Speaker 1: where they you know, they could fail because they're just
- 12:10Speaker 1: not that's not their makeup. So that's such a critical
- 12:13Speaker 1: part of coaching, you know, getting the right guys the
- 12:16Speaker 1: ball at the right time or you know, having the
- 12:19Speaker 1: correct matchup on defense at the correct time. And uh,
- 12:22Speaker 1: you know, we're never going to be perfect. And you know,
- 12:25Speaker 1: sometimes you call is going to bail a player out,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and sometimes you need a player to bail a coach out.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But that's also part of consistency and learning your you know,
- 12:32Speaker 1: learning your personnel. You know, is there's a there's a
- 12:35Speaker 1: process to learning who they are and how they react
- 12:39Speaker 1: in games, you know, compared to what they do in practice.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So that goes into those fourth quarter late game. Is
- 12:49Speaker 2: there something that the players need.
- 12:51Speaker 1: To add that they don't have. It's a great question.
- 12:54Speaker 1: You know we do. We do two minute drills all
- 13:00Speaker 1: the time, and on offense we've been really good. You know,
- 13:04Speaker 1: this season so far, defensively, we have not I guess,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know, I would say the word is mental toughness.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And I'm not intimating that we don't have mental toughness.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I'm just saying that, to me, mental toughness is being
- 13:19Speaker 1: able to be, you know, at your best in those
- 13:23Speaker 1: critical moments, you know, when it's when the pressure is on.
- 13:27Speaker 1: You know. John Wooden define competitive greatness as being at
- 13:33Speaker 1: your best when your best is needed, you know. And
- 13:36Speaker 1: so it's just that aspect of competitive greatness that you
- 13:39Speaker 1: have to have, you know, And that's built through confidence.
- 13:43Speaker 1: It's built through the work that you do, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: in the off season, during the week, the trust that
- 13:47Speaker 1: you have in the call that's coming in and the
- 13:50Speaker 1: player that's playing next to you. So maybe, you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: going back to your question, maybe that is all part
- 13:54Speaker 1: of chemistry. You know. So but like I said, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 1: we we went out there today, I couldn't be more
- 14:01Speaker 1: impressed with the way our players are attacking the situation
- 14:05Speaker 1: that we found ourselves in. And and I listen, let's
- 14:08Speaker 1: let's not you know, and I said it after the game,
- 14:10Speaker 1: let's not minimize you know, the type of team that
- 14:12Speaker 1: Delaware is but we're talking about us. I mean, that's
- 14:14Speaker 1: a good football team. They've always been good and you
- 14:17Speaker 1: know we're still searching for the right formula. Come back. Yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 1: yeah he Malcolm McClain, he's back. Yeah, he's back. He's back.
- 14:27Speaker 1: He's challenge today present.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Run the ball well.
- 14:34Speaker 1: They run the ball well. Their quarterback is an excellent athlete.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He can run the ball well, he can throw it.
- 14:40Speaker 1: You know. They they moved him over from dB to
- 14:43Speaker 1: and he's played receiver, he's played running back. He's he's
- 14:45Speaker 1: a quarterback now. So he's a really good athlete. Uh. Defensively,
- 14:50Speaker 1: they're very sound. You know, they know what they do.
- 14:52Speaker 1: They rush the pass or they've also got ten sacks,
- 14:54Speaker 1: so they're you know, they're they're a good pass rush team.
- 14:57Speaker 1: They've got a couple of guys on their defense that
- 14:58Speaker 1: played here, you know, Alfred and then Nate warre Is.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And Nate's got three and a half sacks. He's playing
- 15:03Speaker 1: really well. So there's another you know, they're they're a
- 15:07Speaker 1: MAC team. I mean, they're they're gonna be tough and
- 15:09Speaker 1: they're gonna be solid. They're gonna be disciplined, they're gonna play.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Hard about consistency where you're encouraged by there being a
- 15:17Speaker 2: little more consistency offensive leaders.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean we're you know, we're playing I always
- 15:24Speaker 1: hate to say these things that right now we're playing
- 15:27Speaker 1: at a pretty high level offensively. You know, we're averaging
- 15:30Speaker 1: forty points a game. We're ranked really high nationally and
- 15:33Speaker 1: pass yards and you know, points and all those things.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I thought we responded well last week when we needed
- 15:39Speaker 1: to get you know, drive and get a touchdown, we
- 15:40Speaker 1: responded well. So for the most part, yes, but I'll
- 15:44Speaker 1: go back to that thing I've talked to you guys
- 15:45Speaker 1: about now for a couple of years. Those except for plays,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you know. So you know, Joe, you asked me after
- 15:52Speaker 1: the game about I think it was maybe it wasn't
- 15:54Speaker 1: you about going forward on fourth down. Yeah, so you know,
- 15:58Speaker 1: it's fourth and one and you can win the game
- 16:00Speaker 1: if you convert, right, you're going to take a knee
- 16:02Speaker 1: and it's over. And so that's when you go for it.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You know, if you kick a field goal there, and
- 16:05Speaker 1: then you know you got to put your defense back
- 16:08Speaker 1: out there and they're defending a touchdown and you know
- 16:10Speaker 1: we've been struggling. Uh So that's kind of a no
- 16:13Speaker 1: brainer decision, but we have to we have to make
- 16:15Speaker 1: those like playing really really well for a lot of
- 16:18Speaker 1: the game but not being able to finish, you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: that's not good enough, you know, or scoring a touchdown
- 16:24Speaker 1: instead of having to kick a field goal in the
- 16:25Speaker 1: in the overtime, you know, those huge things. So yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 1: there's a lot more consistency on offense, but now we
- 16:31Speaker 1: have to have finish, you know, and consistency as a team.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Like I would like to see us go out and
- 16:36Speaker 1: play a complete team game well, you know, play well
- 16:39Speaker 1: on special teams, play well on defense, play well on offense.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Defensively, these guys can rally around with.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Somebody kind of demon, Brentson demon, and I would say
- 16:51Speaker 1: that the way that Brian has practiced and performed on
- 16:55Speaker 1: Saturdays and the intensity that he brings to the room,
- 16:59Speaker 1: I would say that he's am I think Taekwon is emerging.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I think in his own way, Umar is emerging. It's
- 17:09Speaker 1: a little bit different vibe than when you had a
- 17:12Speaker 1: guy like Jilani or dal who'd been around here a
- 17:16Speaker 1: long time, you know, but it's growing, it's growing, and
- 17:22Speaker 1: you know, to be specific, it's those two guys that
- 17:24Speaker 1: I see Brian and demand that are kind of guys
- 17:27Speaker 1: are rallying around really listening to was gonna.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Fourth to two one? All frustrating is and to not
- 17:36Speaker 2: get those What does it take in most places is different.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Well, they're they're gonna stack the box more, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: they're gonna put more more guys inside to stop the run.
- 17:48Speaker 1: And that's why you know, on that fourth and one
- 17:51Speaker 1: we tried to run like a little pick and throw
- 17:53Speaker 1: it to the flat. And then you saw down in
- 17:55Speaker 1: the overtime kind of did the same thing to lou
- 17:58Speaker 1: uh and we had a times we're just a little
- 18:01Speaker 1: bit off. You know, you got to you gotta be
- 18:07Speaker 1: able to get a dirty yard, you know, if you're
- 18:11Speaker 1: a running back and it's a running play or you know,
- 18:13Speaker 1: convert and execute, you know, a short throw and catch.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You know, so those little things they just get you.
- 18:19Speaker 1: It's what I'm talking about, like, you know, instead of
- 18:21Speaker 1: the ball being here, being here, you know, and I'm
- 18:26Speaker 1: not talking about I'm just saying that's an example, because
- 18:29Speaker 1: it's it's you know, throughout the whole the whole team.
- 18:32Speaker 1: So you've got to keep drawing it. You know, it's repetition, right,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and it's going on, and it's doing it over and
- 18:37Speaker 1: over and over and again. And you've heard that say,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, I don't know the start, but you know,
- 18:43Speaker 1: average people do it till they can't get it, till
- 18:46Speaker 1: they get it right. Champions do it till they can't
- 18:47Speaker 1: get it wrong. It's kind of adopting that mindset, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: do it over and over and over and over and
- 18:52Speaker 1: over and over and over again until you can't get
- 18:54Speaker 1: it wrong. And that's what we're working towards.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Little players draw Now.
- 19:01Speaker 1: You know, we all kind of split the load in
- 19:04Speaker 1: terms of game planning on offense. You know, certain coaches
- 19:08Speaker 1: have an area of the plan that they're primarily responsible for,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and then it becomes, you know, a team, a group
- 19:16Speaker 1: effort in terms of putting the final touches on it. So,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you know, we have a certain coach that is going
- 19:23Speaker 1: to dig really hard into third down stuff, you know,
- 19:26Speaker 1: first and second down stuff, pressure stuff, short yardage stuff,
- 19:29Speaker 1: goal line stuff, things like that, and then we try
- 19:31Speaker 1: to come up with the best play to put our
- 19:33Speaker 1: players in position to make a play. You know, and
- 19:36Speaker 1: you can always go back when you fail and look
- 19:38Speaker 1: at and say should have called this? You know, should
- 19:42Speaker 1: have emphasized this. You know, it just it eats you alive,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you know, I mean I can tell you you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: we had a forty four minute flight home and I
- 19:50Speaker 1: think every coach on our staff had watched the film
- 19:53Speaker 1: at least twice, you know, before the wheels hit the
- 19:55Speaker 1: ground at BdL. And that's how obsessed you become. But
- 19:58Speaker 1: if you want to be successful, you have to be
- 20:01Speaker 1: obsessed with what you're doing, and then your actions and
- 20:06Speaker 1: your decisions have to have to match that obsession. You
- 20:09Speaker 1: can have obsession, but if you don't have the actions
- 20:11Speaker 1: and the and the decision making to match your goals,
- 20:15Speaker 1: it's you know, it's you're really you're not obsessed. So
- 20:19Speaker 1: I think this is a team and a staff that's
- 20:21Speaker 1: obsessed with digging our way out of this and reaching
- 20:26Speaker 1: what we believe our potential is. Would you say.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Being at home health field consistency just you.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Know, how much of the leader you may just be
- 20:35Speaker 1: in front, it's huge. I mean, we love playing at
- 20:39Speaker 1: the rent, you know, we love it doesn't matter, it
- 20:42Speaker 1: does I'll say this, It does matter how many people
- 20:45Speaker 1: are there, But it doesn't because I know that the
- 20:48Speaker 1: people are there are die hards. And they're going to
- 20:51Speaker 1: bring energy, and we love playing in front of them,
- 20:54Speaker 1: you know, and uh, we like playing like being in
- 20:57Speaker 1: our locker room, and we love playing on that grass.
- 21:00Speaker 1: We love standing at our home hotel. So I think
- 21:03Speaker 1: it can be. It can be. At this point where
- 21:05Speaker 1: we are, I think it can. It can help us,
- 21:07Speaker 1: you know, it can calm us down a little bit,
- 21:08Speaker 1: you know, it can give us that routine that we need.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And we know our families are going to be there,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and our friends are going to be there, and hopefully
- 21:15Speaker 1: our students are going to be there. I feel like
- 21:17Speaker 1: we have to earn them back a little bit, Like
- 21:20Speaker 1: I've said, you know, over and over again, and I
- 21:23Speaker 1: believe we will.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Should following up on that, have you ever noticed a
- 21:29Speaker 3: short times affect how fast routine comes out of the
- 21:33Speaker 3: game because of the three thirty ches have change the
- 21:37Speaker 3: way the game it.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Gets to flow the game. I've thought about it and
- 21:40Speaker 1: I've you know, I've given it a look, and I
- 21:43Speaker 1: haven't found a thread you know that leads me to
- 21:46Speaker 1: believe that a noon versus twelve thirty versus three three,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you know, we're three o'clock lass this last week, we're
- 21:52Speaker 1: three thirty this week. I think maybe we have some
- 21:54Speaker 1: later games later. I don't really know. I haven't I
- 21:57Speaker 1: haven't seen that, Joe. What we try to do is
- 21:59Speaker 1: structure our laws, like forty eight hours exactly the same,
- 22:03Speaker 1: regardless of what time we're playing, and then you know,
- 22:07Speaker 1: we have a plan for no matter what time we
- 22:09Speaker 1: kick the ball off in terms of how we're going
- 22:11Speaker 1: to spend that day. But I haven't found that that
- 22:14Speaker 1: is something that that we should even mention to the players.
- 22:18Speaker 1: You know, we just got to go out and no
- 22:19Speaker 1: matter when they decide to kick off is and where
- 22:22Speaker 1: we're playing and who we're playing, we just got to
- 22:23Speaker 1: go play our best consistently. So the word consistent has
- 22:28Speaker 1: come up a lot the last couple of weeks, and
- 22:30Speaker 1: I think that's something. You know, it's pretty obvious to people.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You know, it's obvious to you guys obviously, and it's
- 22:36Speaker 1: obvious to us. So all right, we're good. You got
- 22:40Speaker 1: to mean you need all right, thanks all, appreciate you
