- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So I'm a little later today
- 0:31doing this. I'm on vacation this week.
- 0:34Well, from coaching mostly I'm on vacation after today's next
- 0:38three later today sessions, I will be officially on vacation
- 0:42for the week. I'm still going to be putting
- 0:43the podcast up though, because that's what I do every morning.
- 0:46So here's something that's interesting.
- 0:49This morning, very early, I sat down and I was looking for a
- 0:53photo of my father that I was trying to find so that I could
- 0:57show my daughter how much the baby's eyes look like my daddy's
- 1:02eyes because it's freakish to me how much they look like my
- 1:05daddy's eyes. But, you know, he's been gone
- 1:08for quite some time and the quality of photos is not always
- 1:11there. And the ones I have of him are
- 1:13like, you know, probably in boxes, the ones that will really
- 1:17show the color of his eyes. But anyway, I go into Facebook
- 1:20and I pull up. If you go to your Facebook
- 1:24profile and you're on your own profile page and you go to
- 1:28photos, which is, you know, post or photos you put, it pulls up
- 1:31every photo you've ever put on Facebook.
- 1:34And before you know it, I'm down a rabbit hole Because as any of
- 1:38you who listen all the time know, I'm obsessed with photos
- 1:41and taking photos and I love sharing those photos.
- 1:44So Facebook has always been a place that I will put things up.
- 1:47And as I sat there, I went through so many photos before I
- 1:51realized I was in a rabbit hole. I not only went down a rabbit
- 1:55hole, I was having tea with Alice and the rabbit.
- 1:58I was so far down the hole and it was taking up time and I was
- 2:01like, OK, this isn't how I really wanted to plan my
- 2:03morning. And then all of a sudden I had
- 2:05this moment and I was like, wow, I like am looking at the years
- 2:10of my life in photos and it felt so awesome.
- 2:14Now, social media is what it is and for some people it's toxic
- 2:18and for other people it's something great.
- 2:20But for me, it's like a visual library or an account of my
- 2:25world. And as I started looking through
- 2:27it and I saw things, there were things on there that I
- 2:30completely forgot that I did. And when the second I saw the
- 2:33photo, I was like wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 2:36And I was having all these moments of excitement.
- 2:39And I wanted to share that because I don't know how many of
- 2:42you actually use Facebook or maybe Instagram, whichever 1 you
- 2:46choose to use. But it was so compelling to sit
- 2:49there and look at those photos and see how far I have come and
- 2:54the things we have done and the, the adventures with my kids and
- 2:59watching, you know, in as I'm scrolling all of this and I'm
- 3:03like, wow, I really love this moment.
- 3:07So I kept going and I had a cup of tea and I allowed myself that
- 3:11time to absorb those photos to realize, hey, you know what, the
- 3:15fact that I screwed up something this morning.
- 3:17I was supposed to have an appointment with this New Girl
- 3:20that's doing payroll for me, and I completely forgot that I
- 3:24didn't do the paperwork, which screwed up the appointment,
- 3:27which meant they had to cancel it.
- 3:28And I felt bad and I was beating myself up for the fact that I
- 3:31screwed it up. And then I realized, wait a
- 3:34minute, life is not just about that.
- 3:36Who cares? I missed an appointment.
- 3:38They were able to redo it for me.
- 3:39I'll do it Wednesday instead of Monday.
- 3:40Big deal. So what?
- 3:42This is just such a profound moment of realizing how
- 3:47important that ability to go back and look at things is.
- 3:51So for me, it's photos. For you, it might be journals,
- 3:54it might be other things like my mother used to sit there.
- 3:58My mother was not a photo taker, which, you know, it's amazing
- 4:01how I turned into one because she isn't.
- 4:03My daughter is a fierce photo taker and always has been
- 4:07because she always had my cameras around, which I love
- 4:10because I get to have all the photos that she's taking too.
- 4:13And some people do it through other things.
- 4:15My mother would look at all her needlepoint and she'd be like,
- 4:17Oh, yeah, I remember when I did this.
- 4:19And like she would remember sitting and working on it.
- 4:22It's we need those things in our life to appreciate how far we've
- 4:26come. My friends, this is the week of
- 4:28Thanksgiving. This is the first thing of like,
- 4:31oh, it's Thanksgiving. Let's focus on the fact that we
- 4:34can be grateful for all the photos.
- 4:36We can be grateful for all the good stuff that we've done and
- 4:40how far we've come. And we need to acknowledge that
- 4:42in order for us to be able to create more.
- 4:45If we're not grateful for what we have, we can't be getting any
- 4:49more. We must focus on that gratitude
- 4:52piece. So I'm going to give you guys a
- 4:55throw down challenge for this week to think about all of those
- 4:58things that you can be grateful for prior to going into family.
- 5:02And maybe they're going to drive you crazy.
- 5:04Maybe it's going to be a hard week.
- 5:06I don't know. I just think it would be
- 5:08outstanding to put yourself in the position of doing that
- 5:12because I think it's going to give us a lot of insight.
- 5:14So I hope you guys have an absolutely blessed day.
- 5:19I hope you find some photos that you can go back through and be
- 5:23happy about them. All right, my friends, I will
- 5:25see you tomorrow. Take care.
- 5:27Bye.
