Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Kevin Putt: Former Springbok previews the final Greatest Rivalry test between the All Blacks and Springboks
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So the ABs, the Springboks in Baltimore, much friendlier time
- 0:04Speaker 1: for us Sunday, 9am. Kevin, part former Springbok with us
- 0:07Speaker 1: this morning. Kevin, good morning.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Good morning, Ryan.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Your thought, well, your predictions for this weekend?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Oh, with the injuries we've got, the questions about our
- 0:18Speaker 2: New Zealand depth, I think South Africa, even though not
- 0:21Speaker 2: great travellers, I think they'll get it done.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It was funny listening to Mike Hosking's show yesterday and
- 0:28Speaker 1: we had Geordie Barrett talking about the fact that when
- 0:30Speaker 1: they finished that second test, they all jumped on a
- 0:32Speaker 1: charter flight together four hours after it, sitting across from
- 0:35Speaker 1: one another with the box straight to Baltimore.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Well, that's the modern game, isn't it? Now that you
- 0:41Speaker 2: can actually, you know, have a little bit of socialisation
- 0:44Speaker 2: with the opposition and then go out and potentially try
- 0:46Speaker 2: and kill them in about seven days' time.
- 0:48Speaker 1: How do you think Dave Rennie is going to react?
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean, so two losses back to back. what do
- 0:53Speaker 1: you think the message would have been?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Look, I've got to be honest. I think Dave Rennie
- 0:58Speaker 2: has already, you know, got the tick. He's gone toe-to-toe
- 1:01Speaker 2: with the box, 2-1 down, be it. I think people
- 1:07Speaker 2: can see he's doing his job okay. I think this
- 1:09Speaker 2: is more of a test of New Zealand rugby and
- 1:11Speaker 2: the depth chart, what has happened over the last sort
- 1:13Speaker 2: of four years with their development of young players, and
- 1:16Speaker 2: let's have a look at it, and I think they
- 1:18Speaker 2: may be found wanting.
- 1:19Speaker 1: How much do you think Adi Savia has the... sort
- 1:23Speaker 1: of his leadership, how much of an effect do you
- 1:26Speaker 1: think that has on the side and the psyche?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Massive, Ryan, I really do. He's a talisman, and that's
- 1:34Speaker 2: a physical talisman as well. He leads them right from
- 1:37Speaker 2: the front. We even nearly saw a drop-off in the
- 1:40Speaker 2: last test match when he actually left the field. But
- 1:43Speaker 2: when you combine that now with Tupai in the centre,
- 1:46Speaker 2: which had been before the competition even started... a position
- 1:50Speaker 2: they've been so concerned about, that you combine a lack
- 1:54Speaker 2: of positional nous and then your captain as well, it's
- 1:58Speaker 2: got to be a bit of a concern. Obviously, they
- 2:00Speaker 2: will not talk about it. Geordie Barrett, I'm sure, will
- 2:03Speaker 2: step up to the plate, but it's got to be
- 2:05Speaker 2: a concern.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Kevin Park, former Springbok, always good to chat.
