  My Pop for the week is going to be a book. One of my favorite novelists is a guy named

  Grady Hendrix. He writes a lot of kind of tongue-in-cheek horror novels and anybody who knows

  me knows that's my favorite genre is I love reading horror. So the book is called My Best

  Friend's Exorcism. It is from 2016. I need one of those. Do I know or I should. Why do you

  think I introduced you as my bestie at the top of the episode? So the story takes place

  in 1988 during the height of satanic panic. High school sophomores Abby Rivers and Gretchen

  Langs have been best friends since the fourth grade. After an evening of skinny dipping

  in the woods goes wrong, somebody gets possessed and changes drastically. And their lifelong

  friendship is put to the test. This book just gripped me. Something I really like in

  is very interesting about Brady Hendrix is he's a male author and he writes young women

  so well. And I've looked into it and it's because he interviews people and talks to them.

  He really wants to dive into what it's like. And I cried reading the opening of this

  book when it just kind of establishes their friendship in the late 1980s. Of them just

  going to sleepovers and braiding each other's hair and watching movies and sneaking out and

  crank calling boys. And it really establishes so well how much these girls love each other

  before shit hits the fan so that you really care about it when it does. Like when shit

  goes sideways and you know the aforementioned exorcism needs to take place, you really care

  because you're like, oh my god, are they gonna be okay? I want to be still be friends.

  So I would absolutely pop this book. There is a TV series or a movie. It's either Netflix

  or Hulu. I haven't watched it because honestly it's said that it did follow it very closely.

  I might give it a whirl now that I've finished the book just to kind of see what the differences

  are and nitpick it myself. But I'm gonna pop the book. So you can find my best friends
