- 0:57Speaker 2: All right, welcome aboard. It's Tuesday night. I am well stocked,
- 1:04Speaker 2: aren't I, with my Negroni on a block? I've got
- 1:07Speaker 2: my little Campari and my gin and my sweet vermouth.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I know it's not even Friday, and I'm enjoying the cocktail,
- 1:14Speaker 2: but Linda Perillo, you would just have like a glass
- 1:17Speaker 2: of white wine.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Any day past Monday is celebratory. We could say, oh,
- 1:24Speaker 3: you know, we're getting closer to the weekend.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's exactly right.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Tomorrow's hump day already, so that's a good sign. Yep.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Downhill slope after that that's for sure get.
- 1:34Speaker 3: To thursday i'm like it's okay we did you know
- 1:38Speaker 3: we we absolutely did it but no uh first of
- 1:40Speaker 3: all i don't really drink um i have one drink
- 1:45Speaker 3: a week which probably if you ask my husband ends
- 1:48Speaker 3: up being half a drink and uh then i get
- 1:52Speaker 3: a headache and then i just it's not a great.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So a glass of white wine gives you a headache
- 1:58Speaker 2: uh Sometimes, I.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Think he said it could come from the sulfate. It
- 2:02Speaker 3: depends on the cheap wine.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Which, do you know the story? If you drink white
- 2:08Speaker 2: wine or red wine in Italy, you don't get the
- 2:11Speaker 2: headaches from the sulfites.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Because it's better.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Because they don't put the sulfites in in Italy. When
- 2:18Speaker 2: the Italian wines come here and they have the sulfites
- 2:21Speaker 2: in them, it's America that's required them to put them
- 2:24Speaker 2: in them. I don't know why. But if you can
- 2:27Speaker 2: get your Italian wines imported without like buying them in
- 2:31Speaker 2: Italy and then having them imported, you will get better
- 2:34Speaker 2: wine and you won't have headaches because the sulfites won't
- 2:36Speaker 2: be in them.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Right. Well, listen, we have weird stuff that we put
- 2:40Speaker 3: in our stuff and then stuff in our stuff.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, the stuff that's in the stuff that's in the stuff.
- 2:44Speaker 3: That's in the stuff. But just to let you know,
- 2:47Speaker 3: so I over the summer, I went light and I
- 2:50Speaker 3: started with an Aperol Spritz. And then someone introduced me
- 2:54Speaker 3: to a Hugo Spritz, which has elderberry liquor in it,
- 2:59Speaker 3: which is very good. And then several weeks ago, I
- 3:03Speaker 3: was introduced to a Sardi Spritz.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the big thing this year. This summer,
- 3:09Speaker 2: everyone had Sardi Spritz.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Stardy Spritz, I think, is the winner winner chicken dinner
- 3:16Speaker 3: or before the chicken dinner drink.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I can't get Christine off of the Aperol. She's like
- 3:22Speaker 2: the Aperol Spritz is her go to.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Christine, Christine, Christine, we've got to move you on. But listen,
- 3:29Speaker 3: a Spritz, if you're not really a drinker, the Spritz
- 3:31Speaker 3: is the way to go because it is watered down. Right.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Just remember, sort of wine spritzer.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It depends on who makes it.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yes and no, but still the base is non-alcoholic. The
- 3:42Speaker 3: spritz part is non-alcoholic.
- 3:45Speaker 2: That's not necessarily true. If you use Prosecco as the
- 3:48Speaker 2: spritz part... Oh, I see.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I get what you're saying.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And if you make it according to recipe, it's got
- 3:54Speaker 2: a shot of vodka in it, too. So you have vodka, Aperol,
- 4:00Speaker 2: an orange slice, and you top it off with Prosecco.
- 4:02Speaker 2: That's not exactly an alcohol-light drink.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I'm going to have you make the next....
- 4:09Speaker 2: No, because then you'll have a headache and then you'll
- 4:10Speaker 2: go to sleep on us. We got to do the show.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But I've learned, and this is at 50 something years
- 4:17Speaker 3: old here. Like I'm starting, like I go to bed
- 4:20Speaker 3: and I start to get headaches and I wake up
- 4:21Speaker 3: in the middle of the night because I'm not hydrated.
- 4:23Speaker 3: So now I have to have a drink with a
- 4:26Speaker 3: seltzer chaser because I'm like a baby. And then before
- 4:30Speaker 3: I go to bed, I take a Motrin Tylenol combo.
- 4:35Speaker 2: No, don't take Tylenol. That'll kill your liver. If you
- 4:38Speaker 2: have alcohol in your system, don't take Tylenol.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Kev, Kev, Kev.
- 4:42Speaker 2: No, it's a medical fact.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yes, we know this, but how much alcohol do you
- 4:47Speaker 3: think is in my system? First of all, this is
- 4:52Speaker 3: a combo pill.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Your Motrin Advil is your safest anti-inflammatory pain reliever that
- 5:00Speaker 2: you can take.
- 5:01Speaker 3: But the dual action, which is the combo pill, It
- 5:04Speaker 3: is really lickety-split.
- 5:06Speaker 2: See, Linda wants the heavy-duty drugs on the painkiller side.
- 5:10Speaker 2: She wants the three-for-one.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I take nothing. And let me tell you, I've never
- 5:17Speaker 3: smoked pot in my life.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I believe that.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And I have never smoked cigarettes. And I was never
- 5:23Speaker 3: a drinker. Like, I just was not a partier at all.
- 5:27Speaker 3: So for me, like, that drink is like a big deal. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Well, it's your little.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And so is the Motrin.
- 5:36Speaker 2: It's your little cut loose for the night. I'm going
- 5:39Speaker 2: to have my Aperol Spritz now. Or my Sardi Spritz.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And drink half of it.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And drink half of it. And then give the rest away.
- 5:47Speaker 3: We have Spindrift. I wish we had... Um, I love
- 5:50Speaker 3: spin drift. Yeah.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Put, put half of that spin drift in a flute
- 5:54Speaker 2: and then top it off with Prosecco. You've also got
- 5:56Speaker 2: a nice.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Little, there you go. Well, we'll be a sponsor. Let's
- 5:58Speaker 3: get spin.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Well, I'm not anywhere near as lightweight as you are.
- 6:02Speaker 3: No, that Kevin, I've known you for five.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I've, I've, I've needed to, by the end of the day,
- 6:07Speaker 2: you know, depending on the day, I.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Know that's typical.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It's not, I got to tell you a funny story
- 6:15Speaker 2: from today's, uh, staff meeting though. So there's, there's, Every
- 6:20Speaker 2: job has its challenges, right? And I don't go to
- 6:24Speaker 2: staff meeting a lot anymore because I'm a big-time, important
- 6:26Speaker 2: national network guy now. So I don't have to go
- 6:28Speaker 2: to the staff meeting anymore. But I still show up sometimes.
- 6:31Speaker 2: But there are some times in the course of a
- 6:33Speaker 2: year when you're renewing advertisers and developing relationships with advertisers
- 6:39Speaker 2: and so forth that you have your more problematic advertisers.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Of course. Of course.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And it's almost it's almost like, well, I would never
- 6:50Speaker 2: say that. It's almost like when you when you spend
- 6:53Speaker 2: more money, you have more of a right to kind of,
- 6:55Speaker 2: you know, jerk everybody's chains. And so sometimes sometimes I'm
- 6:58Speaker 2: not saying all, but sometimes some advertisers act that way.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 2: And it was so funny because I haven't been in
- 7:04Speaker 2: a staff meeting in a while. And somebody had just
- 7:07Speaker 2: resigned a really notoriously hardcore. tough negotiating client. That's always
- 7:14Speaker 2: just like up to the very last minute, just being
- 7:18Speaker 2: a pain. And you, you, you kind of like, Oh man,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I can't believe I got to work on that renewal, blah, blah, blah, blah. Well,
- 7:25Speaker 2: the news around the table was, Hey, so-and-so renewed fill
- 7:29Speaker 2: in the blank. And everybody knew what the, uh, what
- 7:30Speaker 2: the advertiser was. And somebody goes, Get that guy a
- 7:35Speaker 2: glass of wine. I said, no, get that guy a
- 7:37Speaker 2: basement of bourbon because that's an accomplishment. And so I
- 7:43Speaker 2: was thinking that this is what they need to do.
- 7:45Speaker 2: By the way, friends, if you're listening, I'm not an alcoholic.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I know I sound like one on Radio Night Live.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I'm really not. In fact, I've been doing the keto
- 7:54Speaker 2: thing lately. So you're supposed to drink a lot less
- 7:56Speaker 2: when you're on it if you want it to be successful.
- 7:58Speaker 3: A lot of water. Well, just to let you know, Kev,
- 8:00Speaker 3: have you been on a cruise before?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Did you ever see in your cruise program as part
- 8:06Speaker 3: of the listing Friends of Bill W? Bill W?
- 8:11Speaker 2: No.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Friends of Bill W having a meeting is across the
- 8:15Speaker 3: board cruise lingo for an AA meeting on a cruise ship, which.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Get out.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Swear to God.
- 8:22Speaker 2: That is so cool.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Which I understand to those people that are fighting that
- 8:28Speaker 3: demon can be.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Trapped at sea with everyone around you drinking?
- 8:35Speaker 3: Kev, I was trying to be really soft and nice
- 8:37Speaker 3: and Christian-like and say, it can be challenging.
- 8:41Speaker 2: No, I totally see how it would be hard. I
- 8:44Speaker 2: feel bad.
- 8:46Speaker 3: So, friends of Bill W., if you feel bad for
- 8:48Speaker 3: yourself on a career.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Are you suggesting I should go to a meeting of
- 8:51Speaker 2: friends with Bill W.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Kev, you think you need.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Oh, that's too funny. That's too funny. Well... No, but
- 9:02Speaker 2: I tell you what, if I was living in Paris
- 9:03Speaker 2: these days, I'd probably be thinking about becoming a heavy drinker.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I have no patience.
- 9:11Speaker 2: That is a mess. There are now more than 100
- 9:15Speaker 2: organizations that they have tracked to having involvement with these protests.
- 9:21Speaker 2: And guess what they all are? They're all like the
- 9:23Speaker 2: George Soros Fund and, you know, Marxist for Islam and like.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Every single one of them that are involved. And it's
- 9:29Speaker 2: all organized. It's all organized. And they will just know
- 9:33Speaker 2: a spontaneous protest.
- 9:34Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 9:35Speaker 2: They're going up and down like the richest cities, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 2: throwing tires through windows, burning everything to the ground. They've
- 9:40Speaker 2: lost a billion dollars in property in just the last week.
- 9:45Speaker 2: A billion dollars, a billion dollars, a lot of money still.
- 9:49Speaker 3: That's a lot of money.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Anyway, let's take a quick break. She's, uh, Who are you?
- 9:54Speaker 3: What are you drinking?
- 9:57Speaker 2: I started to call you Christine. with us.
- 10:04Speaker 1: From New York, it's Radio Night Live with Kevin McCullough.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Welcome back. She's... What's her name? And I'm the same guy. It's...
- 10:18Speaker 2: It's Radio Night Live. Linda Perillo, Kevin McCullough, glad to
- 10:20Speaker 2: be with you. And we were talking about Europe just
- 10:24Speaker 2: before the break. Guess what's finally available in Europe now?
- 10:29Speaker 3: Lyft.
- 10:30Speaker 2: You got it. You spotted it spot on. Uber's been around.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Have you used Uber in Italy?
- 10:36Speaker 3: So listen, here's the deal. Uber is not really around. Uber,
- 10:41Speaker 3: I think you can maybe get an Uber Black, but...
- 10:45Speaker 3: So the history behind this is which is why this
- 10:49Speaker 3: is interesting. And I happen to know this in Italy.
- 10:51Speaker 3: So jobs that are non unionized in the United States
- 10:55Speaker 3: are careers in other countries such as Italy. Right. So
- 10:59Speaker 3: I don't know. I think we have a union, though,
- 11:01Speaker 3: in the United States.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I know in New York City there's the TLC. Are
- 11:05Speaker 3: there are they in order.
- 11:06Speaker 2: To get the medallions? But you don't have to be
- 11:09Speaker 2: a union member to be Uber or Lyft driver.
- 11:12Speaker 3: No, no, no. I'm talking about taxis. Taxis themselves.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Taxis are different because the medallions are very expensive to get.
- 11:18Speaker 2: And in order to have them, you have to pay
- 11:20Speaker 2: a lot of money. It's like $ 150, 000 for the medallion.
- 11:21Speaker 2: So in Italy, for sure, the taxi drivers are career drivers.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Unionized. Same with waiters. Those are career jobs. It's not
- 11:37Speaker 3: just like I need a pickup, you know, for the
- 11:39Speaker 3: next six months or whatever. So what happens is the
- 11:43Speaker 3: Italian government says we cannot have Uber here because they're
- 11:46Speaker 3: encroaching on our taxis. And all over, I'm using Italy
- 11:50Speaker 3: as an example, all over Italy, you see taxis. There's
- 11:53Speaker 3: taxi stands, very organized. It's very easy to get a
- 11:56Speaker 3: ride in Italy. And that's what they use They use taxis. However,
- 12:01Speaker 3: they did have recently have Uber, Uber Black. But even
- 12:07Speaker 3: getting a regular car service over there is not an
- 12:10Speaker 3: easy feat at all. Like, I mean, we go online
- 12:13Speaker 3: and we find like 20 in the area, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 3: private car service or whatever. So this is very interesting
- 12:18Speaker 3: that now they are going to allow Lyft in London, Paris, Rome,
- 12:24Speaker 3: surprising Barcelona and Berlin. Making it easier. And we can
- 12:30Speaker 3: also use our Lyft app. There's no separate app because
- 12:37Speaker 3: Italy has a separate taxi app that you can use
- 12:40Speaker 3: to call a taxi if you need it. I've done
- 12:42Speaker 3: this for friends. So this is good that they're combining
- 12:46Speaker 3: it with your already app. In existence Lyft app, which
- 12:51Speaker 3: to me, I mean, we always Uber. I don't use
- 12:54Speaker 3: Lyft a lot, but now you're going to be using.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Well, Italy having Uber is a little bit different. When
- 13:02Speaker 2: we were in London last Christmas, we did use Uber
- 13:06Speaker 2: and it was very convenient. Oh, because, again, you just
- 13:10Speaker 2: call it with your with your phone and it shows up. Like,
- 13:13Speaker 2: I don't know, to be honest, I don't know how
- 13:16Speaker 2: my forefathers survived without cell phones. Because we are such
- 13:21Speaker 2: an immediate society. It's like, oh, I want to go somewhere. Okay,
- 13:24Speaker 2: I'll just call a car and just be there.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Well, even us, Kevin, right? Like, I mean, you're younger
- 13:28Speaker 3: than I am. But, you know, I mean, I didn't
- 13:31Speaker 3: grow up with this.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yes, I am. Grandma, you don't know how.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I had a grandma almost three times.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You're a proud grandma, but you don't look old enough
- 13:42Speaker 2: to be a grandma. So that's the upside. Me, on
- 13:45Speaker 2: the other hand, look like I've been a grandpa for
- 13:47Speaker 2: like 15 years. So it's like it's completely opposite.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Do you ever go out? Really? Have you ever gone
- 13:54Speaker 3: out with your kids and they say, is this your grandpa?
- 13:56Speaker 2: No, that's never happened yet.
- 13:59Speaker 3: I've had that happen. They'll be like to my kids, like, oh,
- 14:02Speaker 3: is this your grandma? I'm like, wait, what? What?
- 14:06Speaker 2: That's not nice.
- 14:08Speaker 3: It's not nice. But, you know, we come from the
- 14:11Speaker 3: same generation. Yes. You know, we grew up without cell phones.
- 14:16Speaker 3: We grew up without tracking. We grew up without having something. However,
- 14:20Speaker 3: do you see how quickly you can integrate something like
- 14:24Speaker 3: that into your life? And I am admittedly now dependent
- 14:29Speaker 3: on my phone for everything. Yeah. Right? For everything. I
- 14:35Speaker 3: can see where my kids are. I can order an Uber.
- 14:37Speaker 2: You mean that thing that was in the kitchen on
- 14:39Speaker 2: the wall that had the 59-foot cord on it that
- 14:42Speaker 2: you had to walk to the other end of the house?
- 14:45Speaker 2: You could stay on the phone because the cable would
- 14:47Speaker 2: stretch far enough to do it? You mean that thing
- 14:49Speaker 2: doesn't take pictures and process your email and do your
- 14:53Speaker 2: taxes for you?
- 14:54Speaker 3: Kids don't get it. And what's interesting to me is
- 14:58Speaker 3: that we had to learn this, right? They didn't really
- 15:01Speaker 3: have to learn. It's like us having a remote control
- 15:05Speaker 3: for a TV growing up, right? It's the same concept.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Remember when they made this sound?
- 15:09Speaker 3: Ka-chunk, ka-chunk, ka-chunk.
- 15:11Speaker 2: And you called it, what'd you call it?
- 15:12Speaker 1: Clicker.
- 15:14Speaker 2: The clicker, exactly. It wasn't nobody. And now you say,
- 15:18Speaker 2: sometimes I'll still slip and say, hey, hand me the clicker.
- 15:20Speaker 2: My kids will be like, what? What's a clicker? Who clicks?
- 15:24Speaker 3: Kevin, it's the remote.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:27Speaker 3: My clicker on Highland Avenue in Pearl River looked like
- 15:31Speaker 3: this metal box and had these plastic buttons with these
- 15:36Speaker 3: metal bars on the inside. I think that made some
- 15:38Speaker 3: kind of contact with the TV. Oh, all six channels.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Right, right. And when Fox came, I remember when Fox
- 15:48Speaker 2: Broadcast got a TV station. in Dallas Fort Worth where
- 15:54Speaker 2: I grew up where I think we had maybe seven
- 15:58Speaker 2: stations because four of them were, uh, were UHF and no,
- 16:05Speaker 2: four of them were VHF and then the rest of
- 16:07Speaker 2: them were all in the UHF. So like they were
- 16:09Speaker 2: in VHF was like two through 15 or something like that.
- 16:13Speaker 2: So it was the, it was the stronger signal and
- 16:15Speaker 2: it was the lower frequency. And then all the UHF
- 16:18Speaker 2: channels were like 26 and 21 and whatever. Um, But
- 16:23Speaker 2: I remember when Fox Broadcast brought in a new VHF channel.
- 16:27Speaker 2: And everybody in the Dallas-Fort Worth area thought we had
- 16:30Speaker 2: died and gone to heaven. We had one more channel
- 16:32Speaker 2: to pick from. And then cable came along and was like, wait, what?
- 16:37Speaker 2: I can have 75 channels? Of which 74 of them
- 16:41Speaker 2: I never watch?
- 16:42Speaker 3: I know.
- 16:43Speaker 2: But I can have them?
- 16:45Speaker 3: And those cable boxes and the cave. I mean, they
- 16:49Speaker 3: took up half your living room. But man, you had arrived.
- 16:53Speaker 3: If you had cable, you arrived. Now everything is like
- 16:58Speaker 3: so sleek and compact. Your phone does everything. The phone
- 17:03Speaker 3: does everything.
- 17:04Speaker 2: My phone can turn my TV on and off and
- 17:06Speaker 2: change the channels to what I want to see and
- 17:08Speaker 2: pick which app I want to watch and all the
- 17:10Speaker 2: rest of it. It's really scary. Anyway, how did this
- 17:12Speaker 2: relate to Lyft? What were we saying about Lyft?
- 17:14Speaker 3: We were just saying, oh, that there's no separate app.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Now you can just call your car. And this is
- 17:21Speaker 3: something that Americans are very used to. Like you just said,
- 17:23Speaker 3: calling a car from your phone. They didn't have that
- 17:27Speaker 3: until now. So this is going to be great. I
- 17:30Speaker 3: don't know why Uber can't get in on this, but
- 17:33Speaker 3: it is what it is.
- 17:34Speaker 2: You know what's kind of freakish? There's a new commercial
- 17:36Speaker 2: that's out for, I think it's a Hyundai car. but
- 17:41Speaker 2: I saw it during the football games over the weekend.
- 17:45Speaker 2: But now my phone, if I have this Hyundai model,
- 17:49Speaker 2: if I'm parked in a place where I can't open
- 17:52Speaker 2: my doors wide enough to get in, but the car
- 17:54Speaker 2: will fit between the two spots, I can get out,
- 17:57Speaker 2: close my door and back the car in with my phone.
- 18:00Speaker 2: It's like, it is crazy. Like we have, Cars driving
- 18:03Speaker 2: around without.
- 18:04Speaker 3: People in them. We did that in San Francisco. What
- 18:06Speaker 3: are they called, the ones in San Francisco?
- 18:09Speaker 2: Autonomous driving cars.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:11Speaker 3: They are, but there's a name for them. I forget
- 18:14Speaker 3: the name of the car. What's the name of the car?
- 18:16Speaker 2: Well, different companies have different ones. So Google has one.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I don't remember the name of it.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Wego? Wego?
- 18:24Speaker 3: Wego?
- 18:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I remember. We did that in San Francisco. I mean,
- 18:29Speaker 3: it's really... wild it's very interesting.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Well and you got to be careful because you don't
- 18:36Speaker 2: want that thing running somebody.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Over no but they've had you know if you see
- 18:41Speaker 3: some of the videos on the way goes away most
- 18:43Speaker 3: they've gotten in neighborhood in texas where they kept going
- 18:48Speaker 3: making u-turns these drivers and they in someone's cul-de-sac.
- 18:53Speaker 2: That's not the kind of travel i want to be
- 18:55Speaker 2: traveling on on travel tuesday coming right back stay.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Here And now, from New York, back to Radio Night Live,
- 19:07Speaker 1: here's Kevin McCullough.
- 19:10Speaker 2: All right, welcome back. It's Travel Tuesday. Question for you,
- 19:13Speaker 2: Lady Perillo.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Do you do the scary, spooky holiday things?
- 19:21Speaker 3: No, I.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Did your kids ever want to?
- 19:24Speaker 3: They've done the... They've done Fright Night at.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Six Flags?
- 19:30Speaker 3: Six Flags. And actually, my daughter and her now husband
- 19:34Speaker 3: were at Demarest Farms and they used to be in
- 19:38Speaker 3: costume there. Demarest Farms had a haunted hayride. So, yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 3: they've done some of them.
- 19:44Speaker 2: We took the kids to.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I'm not into it.
- 19:47Speaker 2: We took them to Sleepy Hollow.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 2: And all the stuff there in Westchester. It's not Westchester.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Where is that?
- 19:55Speaker 3: Carytown.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 3: No.
- 19:57Speaker 2: So, but, you know, they do up the town right.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And we went up and saw the graveyard and did
- 20:03Speaker 2: all that stuff. I'm not a big Halloween guy, so
- 20:05Speaker 2: I'm not really into the spooky stuff either. But for
- 20:08Speaker 2: some reason, my kids... who totally know better from their
- 20:12Speaker 2: faith and every other perspective that none of this stuff
- 20:15Speaker 2: is good. But they're kind of into it. So they
- 20:19Speaker 2: watch Nightmare Before Christmas and Charlie Brown Halloween and all
- 20:22Speaker 2: the rest of it. I've not taken them to this
- 20:27Speaker 2: place that we found in Travel and Leisure today. The
- 20:31Speaker 2: most haunted road in the world, according to Travel and Leisure, is.
- 20:38Speaker 2: A portion of what highway is this?
- 20:41Speaker 3: What is it?
- 20:42Speaker 2: I've driven this highway.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 20:45Speaker 2: It's a 10 mile stretch that runs north to New Jersey.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Say what?
- 20:51Speaker 3: It's Clinton Road.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I think it is also a state highway, but I'm
- 20:56Speaker 2: not seeing the number on it.
- 20:57Speaker 3: In West Milford.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah, in West Milford, which, you know. If you're going
- 21:02Speaker 2: to go to a place where a chainsaw massacre movie
- 21:06Speaker 2: could be filmed, Wes Milford's probably the place.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Oh, like, yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Like, you know, you see, see that, uh, what's that
- 21:14Speaker 2: commercial where they, they say, you know, do you have
- 21:17Speaker 2: trouble making good choices? And the kids are all like,
- 21:20Speaker 2: let's get in the, let's get in the running car.
- 21:21Speaker 2: And you're like, no, let's go hide behind the chainsaws.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And the guy's back there in the hockey mask. Like
- 21:26Speaker 2: that's Wes Milford. That's they, they hang the chainsaws in the, uh,
- 21:30Speaker 2: In the in the garages there. So I can kind
- 21:35Speaker 2: of see that this is what qualifies a road to
- 21:39Speaker 2: be the most haunted or ghost, et cetera, because this
- 21:44Speaker 2: is what I don't understand. How like just because they
- 21:48Speaker 2: have trees and not much sunlight, is that what automatically
- 21:51Speaker 2: qualifies them?
- 21:52Speaker 3: I guess it's his most famous. This is according to
- 21:55Speaker 3: the piece here. Most famously, a little ghost boy who
- 21:58Speaker 3: is set to haunt dead man's curve right there. I
- 22:04Speaker 3: think it's called dead man's curve. You got to say, OK, well,
- 22:10Speaker 3: what are we dealing with?
- 22:11Speaker 2: I think the reason they call it dead man's curve, though,
- 22:13Speaker 2: is because too many cars have taken it at, say,
- 22:16Speaker 2: an accelerated accelerated rate over the speed limit.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Well, it says a sharp turn.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Crosses a bridge over Mossman's Brook. I don't know where
- 22:26Speaker 3: that is. Local legend has it that if you toss
- 22:29Speaker 3: a coin, I may just go and just do this,
- 22:32Speaker 3: get some money. Local legend has it that if you
- 22:35Speaker 3: toss a coin into the river, the little ghost boy
- 22:38Speaker 3: will toss it right back. Well, you know what? I'll
- 22:41Speaker 3: go hang out there.
- 22:42Speaker 2: It's like Wrigley Field when the opposing team hits a
- 22:45Speaker 2: home run. Throw it back. Throw it back.
- 22:49Speaker 3: People have also reported seeing ghost lights, phantom cars, strange animals,
- 22:57Speaker 3: satanic cults and other creepy things. Well, here's the thing.
- 23:00Speaker 3: If you're in West Milford up there and then there
- 23:03Speaker 3: are woods. It is a little bit like deliverance. Just
- 23:09Speaker 3: on the landscape.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Bring your banjo.
- 23:12Speaker 3: So what happens is I think people get these thoughts
- 23:15Speaker 3: in their head right away that it's creepy and your
- 23:19Speaker 3: mind plays tricks on you. That's just my thing. Although
- 23:24Speaker 3: it does say that reportedly in the 80s, there's a dense,
- 23:29Speaker 3: isolated wilderness where a serial killer reportedly dumped a body.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Ah.
- 23:34Speaker 3: You know, hey.
- 23:36Speaker 2: So that's the number one most haunted. Number two is
- 23:40Speaker 2: in New Hampshire. So, you know, New England and the
- 23:43Speaker 2: East Coast, we are loaded with the haunted places. Third
- 23:47Speaker 2: is a California portion of Route 66. I think that's
- 23:50Speaker 2: kind of silly because Route 66, it's just a famous... highway.
- 23:55Speaker 3: And it is. But I think, you know, Route 66,
- 23:57Speaker 3: I've been on only parts of it. Route 66 is
- 24:01Speaker 3: that highway where you see like they have commercials on.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but nobody ever drives the entire route.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Nobody's driving on there or the car gets stuck on
- 24:09Speaker 3: the highway and you just see like desert and there's
- 24:13Speaker 3: nobody to come and get you. And like, you know,
- 24:15Speaker 3: they find your corpse or they find your skeletal remains
- 24:18Speaker 3: like 10 years later. That's what Route 66 looks like.
- 24:21Speaker 3: So again, these places are kind of lending themselves, even
- 24:25Speaker 3: without doing anything, to horrible nightmares and visions in someone's head.
- 24:31Speaker 2: See, now I'm never going to be in any of
- 24:32Speaker 2: these places where I'm not going to hear your voice
- 24:35Speaker 2: saying that in the back of my head. And even
- 24:37Speaker 2: if there's nothing there, it's going to be freaking me out.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Listen, just to let you know, I have a very
- 24:42Speaker 3: famous medium coming to my home.
- 24:44Speaker 2: I don't want to know that.
- 24:46Speaker 3: He's from New Jersey. And I am going to ask
- 24:49Speaker 3: him about these places and see what he knows because
- 24:51Speaker 3: he's a ghost expert, too. Yeah.
- 24:53Speaker 2: He's going to tell you a poppycock because there's nothing there.
- 24:57Speaker 1: No.
- 24:57Speaker 2: We'll have that discussion after he comes. All right.
- 24:59Speaker 3: She's Linda.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I'm Kevin. Stay here.
- 25:05Speaker 3: What a little moonlight can do.
- 25:07Speaker 1: It's Radio Night Live.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Here's Kevin McCullough. All right. I don't know. Welcome back.
- 25:13Speaker 2: It's Radio Night Live. She's Linda. I'm Kevin. I don't know.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Lady Perillo.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 2: If I've ever, so I'm in a, I'm regularly in a,
- 25:24Speaker 2: in a weird situation because my, my bride will come
- 25:27Speaker 2: to me and say, sweetheart, how come all of our
- 25:29Speaker 2: friends get to take like whole month or two months
- 25:33Speaker 2: or three months vacations, like places. And I'm like, I
- 25:36Speaker 2: don't know. Cause I've never been able to really stay
- 25:38Speaker 2: away from the microphone for longer than about five or
- 25:41Speaker 2: six days at a stretch because I the whole gig
- 25:44Speaker 2: about me being at a microphone is that if something
- 25:46Speaker 2: in news happens and people need perspective on it, they're
- 25:49Speaker 2: expecting me to be there to tell the audience what,
- 25:52Speaker 2: you know, what's going on. So for me, it's just
- 25:54Speaker 2: not conducive, but I guess, I guess longer vacations and
- 25:58Speaker 2: stretches do happen for people that are beyond the working class,
- 26:02Speaker 2: which would, would not, I would not be beyond that.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I'm definitely in the working class. And they've come up
- 26:08Speaker 2: with travel leisure has come up with the futuristic city
- 26:11Speaker 2: of that is also the world's best place for a
- 26:15Speaker 2: six-month career break on a budget where rent is affordable. Now,
- 26:22Speaker 2: you're famous and your dad was Mr. Italy and all
- 26:26Speaker 2: the rest of it. Did you ever take a six-month vacation?
- 26:31Speaker 2: Did the Perillos ever get to just like check out
- 26:33Speaker 2: for six months and just be like, nope, we'll see
- 26:35Speaker 2: when we get back in a half year?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Mario said, listen, we're just going to, I'm not going
- 26:40Speaker 3: to work for the next six months. We're going to
- 26:41Speaker 3: take a career break. Where would you like to go live?
- 26:45Speaker 3: What happened to him? Oh my God.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Yeah. I would think, I know my kids would like,
- 26:52Speaker 2: it would be a wonderful thing to think that you
- 26:54Speaker 2: could be able to do that someday, but aspiring, you know,
- 26:57Speaker 2: we're all trying to make it, you know, make a
- 26:59Speaker 2: living every day. These, these days, anyway, a new study
- 27:02Speaker 2: has ranked Chongqing, China, Number one for affordable extended stays,
- 27:09Speaker 2: followed by Chengdu and Chang and Mai and then Sarajevo
- 27:14Speaker 2: and then Tannin. Tannin, wherever that is.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Sarajevo.
- 27:17Speaker 2: The only one on this whole list I've ever heard
- 27:19Speaker 2: of is Sarajevo.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Sarajevo.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Well, no, Chengdu. I've heard of Chengdu for sure.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:25Speaker 3: But again, digital, no. Here's the thing, Kev. Digital nomad, right?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Work from wherever the heck you are and you're still working.
- 27:35Speaker 3: That is key right there. Travelers taking a long hiatus
- 27:40Speaker 3: from work. Well, long.
- 27:41Speaker 1: All right.
- 27:41Speaker 3: So everything is relative. What's long to you? Long to
- 27:44Speaker 3: me would be a lunch.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure a lot of these people are. If
- 27:51Speaker 2: you're taking a six month break, you probably not bring
- 27:53Speaker 2: in your family.
- 27:55Speaker 3: No, you can't be.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Often falling under the radar compared to cities like Shanghai
- 28:00Speaker 2: and Beijing, Chongqing sits as the cyberpunk capital of the world. That's,
- 28:06Speaker 2: I guess, a good thing to be known for. Both
- 28:07Speaker 2: stunning architecture, along with an efficient monorail system, and the
- 28:13Speaker 2: UNESCO World Heritage recognized Dazhu rock carvings, which are set
- 28:16Speaker 2: up on the steep hillsides.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I would go just... For that, because they are on
- 28:23Speaker 3: my list.
- 28:23Speaker 2: The 9th and 13th centuries versions.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Do not miss things in Linda's life. That's where I'm going.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Why are you so enamored with the carvings? I'm kidding. Oh, okay.
- 28:35Speaker 2: I thought you were being serious.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I never heard of them.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Yeah, me neither. A six-month stay costs $ 3, 600. And it
- 28:42Speaker 2: sounds too good to be true until you add foreign
- 28:47Speaker 2: transaction fees, currency conversion spreads.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Oh, oh.
- 28:50Speaker 2: All the other things, wire transfer costs on top, those
- 28:53Speaker 2: costs quietly eat into a fixed travel budget in ways
- 28:56Speaker 2: most people don't calculate. The $ 10, 000 budget goes much further
- 29:00Speaker 2: if you skip the bank. So I guess what, you
- 29:03Speaker 2: take cash? After Chongqing, fellow Chinese city Chengdu made the list,
- 29:10Speaker 2: costing only $ 4, 000 to live there for six months. My
- 29:14Speaker 2: question is, if you really dig Chinese culture and you
- 29:17Speaker 2: can work from anywhere, why wouldn't you just... Make that
- 29:21Speaker 2: your home. You'll never be able to live that cheap
- 29:25Speaker 2: anywhere else.
- 29:27Speaker 3: You know, maybe this is one of those things where
- 29:31Speaker 3: the Chinese government is very smart. Right. So they're getting
- 29:35Speaker 3: you there cheaply, hoping that maybe they'll get non Chinese.
- 29:40Speaker 3: and they'll get expatriates that do move there and stay
- 29:44Speaker 3: there permanently because that will boost the Chinese economy.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Cities like Sarajevo in Bosnia and, uh, Tainan, Taiwan
- 29:56Speaker 2: rounded up, rounded out the top five. Um, Here were
- 30:00Speaker 2: some of the other nominees. Antalya, Turkey. You couldn't pay
- 30:03Speaker 2: me to live in Turkey. Not right now. There's too
- 30:07Speaker 2: much stuff going on. Fukuoka, Japan. Tbilisi, Georgia.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Georgia?
- 30:15Speaker 2: Tbilisi, Georgia. European Georgia, yes. Varna, Bulgaria. And another city
- 30:24Speaker 2: in Turkey, Izmir. I've been to Bulgaria. I haven't been
- 30:28Speaker 2: to Georgia.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Right, Kevin. And that's why they're giving it away.
- 30:33Speaker 2: In fact, Bulgaria is the only country I've been to
- 30:35Speaker 2: there of everything on that list. So, yeah. But it'd
- 30:40Speaker 2: be interesting to live for, you know, three grand for
- 30:44Speaker 2: six months.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Taiwan would be interesting to me because a lot of
- 30:47Speaker 3: things are made in Taiwan, as we know. I don't
- 30:50Speaker 3: know if they're still being manufactured there, but that might
- 30:52Speaker 3: be interesting. Thailand, though, you know.
- 30:55Speaker 2: That's not on the list.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Yes, it is.
- 30:58Speaker 2: What number?
- 30:59Speaker 3: My Thailand.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I don't want to go to Thailand.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Thailand is a hot destination, Kev.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Yeah, because of all the sex trafficking. I don't want
- 31:08Speaker 2: to go there.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Cheap, pretty.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I want to contribute to the culture.
- 31:14Speaker 3: You know, but I like the United States of America
- 31:18Speaker 3: or Italy. Thank you very much.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Good old U.S. of A. In fact, we have joked,
- 31:25Speaker 2: and it has been a joke because I can't do it. Um,
- 31:28Speaker 2: but we have joked if we had our druthers figuring
- 31:32Speaker 2: out a way to move to Sorrento because it's the
- 31:35Speaker 2: exact same sunset and facing as Santa Barbara, which is
- 31:40Speaker 2: where we dated and, you know, got married and spent
- 31:42Speaker 2: all of our time early, early days. Uh, Sorrento would
- 31:46Speaker 2: be like the, the, the later season in life and
- 31:49Speaker 2: you get the same sunsets and the same in the
- 31:51Speaker 2: same direction. Everything is really beautiful. Um, I would go
- 31:54Speaker 2: back to Sorrento in a heartbeat. It's just that whole coast,
- 31:58Speaker 2: just my amazingly favorite place on earth.
- 32:01Speaker 3: One of mine, too. But listen, I want to add
- 32:03Speaker 3: to what we're speaking about here. Which city in the
- 32:06Speaker 3: United States was just named the most affordable in the U.S.
- 32:11Speaker 3: for digital nomads? In other words, you want to stay there?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah. What city was it?
- 32:17Speaker 3: Well, I was laughing because we were just in Universal
- 32:20Speaker 3: Studios where, of course, the Simpsons were. And where did
- 32:23Speaker 3: the Simpsons live?
- 32:24Speaker 2: Springfield.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Right. But which Springfield?
- 32:27Speaker 2: Nobody knows.
- 32:27Speaker 3: This is Springfield, Missouri.
- 32:32Speaker 2: My birthplace.
- 32:34Speaker 3: No way.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I was born in Springfield, Missouri.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Well, you should have stayed there, Kevin, because your monthly
- 32:39Speaker 3: expenses come in at just $ 2, 299 and a new car.
- 32:46Speaker 2: But sometimes your uncle is also your cousin. So there's
- 32:50Speaker 2: that problem, too. All right. Coming right back. She's Linda.
- 32:52Speaker 2: I'm Kevin. Over and out.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Once again, from New York, here's Radio Night Live and
- 33:04Speaker 1: Kevin McCullough.
- 33:07Speaker 2: All right, final few minutes. She's Linda Perillo. I'm Kevin McCullough.
- 33:10Speaker 2: It's Travel Tuesday. And I'm curious, Linda, I see on
- 33:13Speaker 2: Instagram all the time this kind of new influencer that,
- 33:18Speaker 2: you know, is doing the travel thing. But if she
- 33:20Speaker 2: travels by herself, and this could be generic. There's so
- 33:23Speaker 2: many that do it. But female influencers that travel. When
- 33:27Speaker 2: they make a how to keep your room safe video
- 33:32Speaker 2: every time they stay in a hotel. And so they
- 33:34Speaker 2: set up the phone somewhere and then they put it
- 33:36Speaker 2: in fast speed so you can see. But they go
- 33:38Speaker 2: and they put the towel around the thing and then
- 33:42Speaker 2: they put the other thing there and they put the
- 33:44Speaker 2: desk chair under the handle of the door. And there's
- 33:49Speaker 2: no travel veteran that is more traveled than you in
- 33:52Speaker 2: my personal realm of knowledge. Have you ever had like
- 33:56Speaker 2: little safety checks that you do on your room when
- 33:58Speaker 2: you go places?
- 34:00Speaker 3: I'm a nut about the doors and the locks, really.
- 34:05Speaker 3: I mean, especially at night. Um, and you know, and,
- 34:09Speaker 3: and unfortunately in this day and age of digital, which
- 34:13Speaker 3: is easy, right? You have a little card, you get,
- 34:16Speaker 3: if you lose it, they'll give you a new one
- 34:18Speaker 3: and stuff like that. You kind of have to say,
- 34:20Speaker 3: who else has a key to your room? I mean,
- 34:23Speaker 3: it's very easy for staff, I think to infiltrate and
- 34:27Speaker 3: get a key room, but they have to really want
- 34:29Speaker 3: to get in there and stuff. So you have to
- 34:31Speaker 3: do what you can do. And that's the bait. I mean,
- 34:34Speaker 3: we're talking about this too. The anti-theft measures are very,
- 34:39Speaker 3: very basic. Right. Make sure that your locks, your door
- 34:43Speaker 3: locks work. Always use that secondary lock when you go
- 34:48Speaker 3: to sleep. The chain or that bar that comes over
- 34:52Speaker 3: the door.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I put them all on.
- 34:54Speaker 3: I do, too. You should always use that. Check your pad.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I do this too. I'm a lunatic. If you have
- 34:58Speaker 3: a patio, make sure that that patio door is locked.
- 35:01Speaker 3: I mean, it's just really the basic, basic things. And
- 35:05Speaker 3: of course, if there's something broken in your room, you
- 35:08Speaker 3: really need to go and tell them at the front
- 35:10Speaker 3: desk or wherever this lock is broken in my room.
- 35:12Speaker 3: I don't trust it, whatever. I mean, you can do
- 35:15Speaker 3: what you can do and that's it. And they do
- 35:18Speaker 3: talk about checking out your destination, which, you know, your hope,
- 35:22Speaker 3: Hopefully not going anywhere. That's not unsafe. But, you know,
- 35:27Speaker 3: you should check out where you're going to. And that's
- 35:31Speaker 3: really it. That's the basics. It's all about the locks.
- 35:33Speaker 3: There's not much more to do.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Well, and I think that, to be honest, you've got
- 35:40Speaker 2: a lot more reasons to worry because electronic fudging of
- 35:45Speaker 2: locks and things is– so much easier for people that
- 35:48Speaker 2: know what they're doing than having to go make a
- 35:50Speaker 2: key that fits the door and that sort of thing. Um,
- 35:53Speaker 2: and I, I use the safe. I put everything in
- 35:56Speaker 2: the safe that, you know, is like, I put my phone,
- 36:00Speaker 2: I put everything in there if I'm going to be out. Um,
- 36:04Speaker 2: and I like to stay, I like to, as best
- 36:07Speaker 2: I can, can't always do this, but if I'm going
- 36:09Speaker 2: to be in a place for like, well, like when
- 36:11Speaker 2: we were in Italy and we were staying at hotel
- 36:12Speaker 2: Christina in Sorrento, I went down and always just chatted
- 36:16Speaker 2: with the house staff and like the security people. And like,
- 36:21Speaker 2: I just, I just felt like if I, if they
- 36:23Speaker 2: had a feeling of who I was and everything else,
- 36:25Speaker 2: they'd kind of be a little more on the lookout.
- 36:27Speaker 2: And I like that. I like having a sense of
- 36:30Speaker 2: the surroundings around us anyway. All right. So that's, that's
- 36:34Speaker 2: common sense as is always when you travel to be,
- 36:38Speaker 2: to be safe. Linda, thank you for a great night.
- 36:41Speaker 2: We'll see you next time. Go have your Aperol spritz now.
- 36:43Speaker 2: It's time.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Bye.
- 36:45Speaker 2: And your Tylenol before you go to bed. Ruin your liver.
- 36:47Speaker 2: All right.
- 36:48Speaker 3: See you.
