- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, dude, Uh, we're catching up because you got a
- 0:02Speaker 1: new album.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Uh what what's the process when it comes to albums
- 0:07Speaker 2: for you?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Now?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Are you do you just put a date on the
- 0:09Speaker 2: calendar and say, hey, we'll get there, or is it
- 0:11Speaker 2: when it feels right, it'll happen.
- 0:16Speaker 3: I try to I try to wait, but uh, you know,
- 0:21Speaker 3: I get pushed a little bit. So now it's just,
- 0:26Speaker 3: you know, I'll write. So I've got I've probably got
- 0:28Speaker 3: like one hundred and fifty songs in my on my phone,
- 0:31Speaker 3: and we just trying to put We used to just
- 0:34Speaker 3: try and put the best songs together, but now I
- 0:36Speaker 3: just try to like really write whatever I can. And
- 0:40Speaker 3: these last couple a couple of months trying to get
- 0:44Speaker 3: the album together, I didn't really do nothing. Like I
- 0:46Speaker 3: wasn't really have many conversations. So I had to try
- 0:49Speaker 3: and get like personal, but just personal stuff that was
- 0:51Speaker 3: going on in my life about like my you know, Papa,
- 0:55Speaker 3: and then depression was haunted Papa with Uh when you
- 1:01Speaker 3: so when you forget, you can remember of course my
- 1:05Speaker 3: my daughters for backseat driver and then three for my son,
- 1:09Speaker 3: and so I just started to get really personal with everything.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It's so good did you go? Did you go there?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Because that hasn't been a place that you've let a
- 1:16Speaker 2: lot of fans into just yet.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I feel like I've always been kind of vulnerable. I
- 1:21Speaker 3: think I was most vulnerable on my first album and
- 1:23Speaker 3: a lot of people were like, where's where did that
- 1:25Speaker 3: cane go? And so, uh, this one, you know, we'll
- 1:30Speaker 3: see if they we'll see if this is the cane
- 1:32Speaker 3: that they were wandering about.
- 1:34Speaker 1: They'll be like, how come there's no I need more bangers?
- 1:36Speaker 1: You're like, which one? Do you want?
- 1:38Speaker 3: What you want?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Speaking of the family and integration, your wife gets two
- 1:45Speaker 2: features on the album. Now was were these songs always
- 1:49Speaker 2: the plan? And were they always meant to be duets? Yeah?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Body Talk was meant to be a duet. Uh, and
- 1:59Speaker 3: then the other one was specifically wrote for it do it.
- 2:02Speaker 3: We were do us apart. We were trying to write
- 2:06Speaker 3: like the Randy Travis carry Underwoods. I told you so.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I ended up coming up with do us apart. It's
- 2:13Speaker 3: not not close? Uh, not close enough. So we'll probably
- 2:17Speaker 3: do another one try and get a little bit closer.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Are you I'm excited?
- 2:22Speaker 3: I was just gonna say I'm excited. She's on the
- 2:23Speaker 3: album though, because it was you know, she was just
- 2:25Speaker 3: coming out to thank God and it's taking her hour
- 2:27Speaker 3: hour and have to get ready for once on and
- 2:29Speaker 3: then she would just go back and take it off
- 2:31Speaker 3: and go to bed. I felt bad.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Well, now now she's going to have her own set
- 2:35Speaker 1: on the tour.
- 2:36Speaker 3: That's the goal, right yeah. Yeah, No. She's joked about it.
- 2:39Speaker 3: She's like, I'll come, I'll come open, but then she'll
- 2:43Speaker 3: be like, I can't be. I don't want to be
- 2:46Speaker 3: on stage. I just want to sing in the studio.
- 2:49Speaker 3: So I'm like, what do you want. It's it's cool
- 2:54Speaker 3: though right now because she can you know, she can do.
- 2:57Speaker 3: She doesn't have to come out like the best of
- 3:00Speaker 3: both worlds.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Uh, you're to the point now that she's three songs
- 3:07Speaker 2: deep with you, So you can't collab with another female
- 3:10Speaker 2: at this point because she's gonna get mad, right, She's.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Gonna be like, hey, what, I'm not good enough for
- 3:14Speaker 1: this one?
- 3:15Speaker 3: Nah?
- 3:16Speaker 1: Na na.
- 3:16Speaker 3: She wouldn't be mad, uh. I just I mean it's
- 3:23Speaker 3: just weird, like any love songs, I wouldn't do it
- 3:25Speaker 3: with another female because it's just it's pointless. Why why
- 3:27Speaker 3: would I you know, it's like she can sing. And
- 3:30Speaker 3: then we were actually in love I think, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 3: with another artist. And I get really weird with that stuff,
- 3:36Speaker 3: especially like music videos and like stay five feet away
- 3:40Speaker 3: from me because I want nothing weird happening. You know
- 3:43Speaker 3: what I'm saying. I don't want to so yeah. But
- 3:47Speaker 3: I mean if it was like a you know so
- 3:52Speaker 3: other another topic other than love or anything like that,
- 3:55Speaker 3: it was just like a song that two guys could sing.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I would do that with a girl.
- 4:02Speaker 1: There you go. I feel you. We we caught up
- 4:05Speaker 1: not long ago, and you had mentioned depression.
- 4:08Speaker 2: We caught up not longer about uh god, let me
- 4:11Speaker 2: try and remember we talked about a song that you
- 4:14Speaker 2: had and you were working on, but you weren't sure
- 4:16Speaker 2: it was gonna where it was gonna go.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But it was about growing up a young kid.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And it's like the cars not in the driveway. And
- 4:23Speaker 2: I listened to a good chunk of this album. It's
- 4:25Speaker 2: not on here right, No, you know what song I'm
- 4:28Speaker 2: talking about though.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Be a boy?
- 4:30Speaker 1: When's it coming?
- 4:32Speaker 3: I just couldn't get it right, man, And it's too
- 4:34Speaker 3: strong of a song to just rush. And I mean
- 4:37Speaker 3: I had it cut. I could have just thrown it
- 4:39Speaker 3: on the album and lived with it. But it wouldn't
- 4:42Speaker 3: it wouldn't have done the justice that the song deserves,
- 4:46Speaker 3: you know, So.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It's still We'll still get it at some point when
- 4:50Speaker 2: it feels right.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean it's the songs A smashed regardless
- 4:54Speaker 3: if you know, if I keep it which it was
- 4:57Speaker 3: written for me, or if somebody else gets it. I mean,
- 5:01Speaker 3: I'm not gonna let I mean, I'll fight till I'll
- 5:05Speaker 3: fight till damn Nashville's burned down for I let that
- 5:08Speaker 3: song go bad. Bro, I ain't letting nobody get it
- 5:11Speaker 3: unless they actually do it justice.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Dude, I could.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I could tell you every artist gets to talk about
- 5:16Speaker 2: all their music. But when you when we connected and
- 5:18Speaker 2: you brought that song up, due, I could tell in
- 5:20Speaker 2: your eyes are like this things special dude.
- 5:22Speaker 3: It's it's I mean, a hot Wheels car in the driveway.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Like That's why I stay up all not playing video
- 5:31Speaker 3: games because I never got to be a man because
- 5:35Speaker 3: I had to be a boy. Like, yeah, I never
- 5:39Speaker 3: got I never got to be a boy because I
- 5:40Speaker 3: always had to be a man. So that's why I'm
- 5:42Speaker 3: being a boy now. It's ridiculous, dude, A man, I
- 5:45Speaker 3: dig it.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Uh, you did mention a song that has a similar
- 5:50Speaker 2: uh feel as far as you know, dealing with depression
- 5:53Speaker 2: or any sort of mental issues, and that's the song
- 5:56Speaker 2: you did with Jelly Roll.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Powerful song. Was he the guy for that song?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Always No. I was originally just gonna do it myself.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I wrote it me Jackson and Gabe and we were
- 6:09Speaker 3: in a Hunter hotel and we already wrote like four
- 6:11Speaker 3: Fox songs. I was just looking around, was like this
- 6:14Speaker 3: place haunted, and then I was thought about it for
- 6:17Speaker 3: a second, went down the depression road, and we ended
- 6:21Speaker 3: up sending it to Jelly whenever I was at once
- 6:28Speaker 3: Elvis is Home, Graceland, Graceland. Yeah, when we were Graceland
- 6:33Speaker 3: doing that special, I ended up sending it to Jelly Row.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, well it worked out. It's perfect. You got so
- 6:41Speaker 2: Jelly's on the album. You have some other collapse including
- 6:43Speaker 2: Brad Paisley. Is there a song? And I always I
- 6:47Speaker 2: like this question because we get good answers, But I
- 6:49Speaker 2: also hate it because I'm asking you to pick all
- 6:52Speaker 2: these songs against each other. But what are some songs
- 6:58Speaker 2: that that definitely you hold a little closer to your.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Heart, but actually driver haunted. When you forget gorgeous, is
- 7:12Speaker 3: gorgeous is a really strange spot with me.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Why is that?
- 7:19Speaker 3: I don't know, Like I love the song, sometimes I
- 7:22Speaker 3: feel like it's like, I don't know if you don't
- 7:27Speaker 3: listen to the song correctly. Like the song, you know,
- 7:30Speaker 3: it's about like people is going to take it of
- 7:33Speaker 3: its being about my wife, and it is. I mean,
- 7:35Speaker 3: she's gorgeous. But when I listened to the song, I
- 7:40Speaker 3: listen to it as everybody in the world. You know.
- 7:43Speaker 3: It's not the clothes that you wear, it's not you know,
- 7:46Speaker 3: any of this. It's the person inside you that makes
- 7:50Speaker 3: you gorgeous. And it's not specific I know the song
- 7:55Speaker 3: specifically talking about one person, but for me singing it,
- 7:58Speaker 3: if you're in front of you in the audience, I'm
- 7:59Speaker 3: talking about every person in front of me. Yeah, So
- 8:03Speaker 3: I just I don't know. That's why it's on the fence.
- 8:05Speaker 3: For me.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It makes sense though, and it's such it's such a
- 8:08Speaker 2: good Uh, it's such. The album itself is is fantastic.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Do you feel as you step back and you look
- 8:15Speaker 2: at and you probably don't go like this album versus
- 8:17Speaker 2: this album, this album versus this album, but definitely as
- 8:20Speaker 2: a fan of your music, this.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Album feels like.
- 8:24Speaker 2: As a man and as a human like you are,
- 8:27Speaker 2: you are singing from a place that you never had before,
- 8:30Speaker 2: whether it's confidence or happiness in life, or you just
- 8:34Speaker 2: don't give a damn what people think anymore, and you're
- 8:36Speaker 2: doing you know what's right for you. There's something like,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I feel more confident.
- 8:40Speaker 1: In your music than ever. Am I right in saying that? Yeah?
- 8:44Speaker 3: I mean I hope, I hope that that's what I want.
- 8:46Speaker 3: You know, I got thrown into this and I just
- 8:48Speaker 3: want to become better artists and keep growing. And I
- 8:54Speaker 3: feel like I said that that's what this album is.
- 8:56Speaker 3: What I'm already looking on to the next one, and
- 8:58Speaker 3: but this album is going to be a huge part
- 9:01Speaker 3: of what comes next because I've been telling a lot
- 9:04Speaker 3: of people that I've been trying to write the ballots
- 9:06Speaker 3: for years now just to make everybody in different country.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I feel like there's ten shades of country music and
- 9:13Speaker 3: like everybody falls into one of them, and I'm trying
- 9:15Speaker 3: to hit everyone I can. And that's why my career
- 9:19Speaker 3: has been just pulling my damn hair out almost. I mean,
- 9:24Speaker 3: it's been a nice ride, Don't get me wrong, Everything's
- 9:26Speaker 3: been smooth, great, But when it comes to trying to
- 9:31Speaker 3: please everybody, I eventually I've got to the point where
- 9:34Speaker 3: I know I can't. So if this, if my ballots
- 9:38Speaker 3: do not go well on this album, there's some weird
- 9:44Speaker 3: shit it's about to happen for me music wise. I'm
- 9:47Speaker 3: just gonna let you know music wise, and stuff's gonna happen,
- 9:51Speaker 3: which is gonna set up the however my career goes
- 9:55Speaker 3: from there.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Uh, Hippy was why the high road makes sense?
- 9:58Speaker 2: Because anytime you hear the term high road, it's like,
- 10:02Speaker 2: take the high road, don't talk shit, don't start a fight,
- 10:04Speaker 2: don't So why does high road work for for this project?
- 10:07Speaker 1: For you?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Uh?
- 10:09Speaker 3: Well, we already had a u a super cool song
- 10:12Speaker 3: that actually might end up coming out. It didn't make
- 10:14Speaker 3: the album, just wasn't right yet. But it's called the
- 10:17Speaker 3: high Road, and it's my story of just you know,
- 10:22Speaker 3: you don't belong here, blah blah blah. I heard that before,
- 10:25Speaker 3: and uh yeah, like I said, I just didn't make
- 10:28Speaker 3: the album. And then we were traveling, we were going
- 10:30Speaker 3: to Canada. Whenever we were working on this. We had
- 10:33Speaker 3: just got back from Europe, just keeping our you know,
- 10:36Speaker 3: keeping our head up the whole time, not you know,
- 10:39Speaker 3: dealing with drama all this the high road. It just
- 10:42Speaker 3: sounded like a strong album title and it could be
- 10:45Speaker 3: a cool circle around moment. Plus with all of you know,
- 10:49Speaker 3: the visuals with the bike and all that stuff. It's
- 10:51Speaker 3: just everything miles on it. I mean, it just makes sense.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it works, one hundred percent works. You said
- 10:57Speaker 2: you're already thinking about what's next, which as an artist
- 11:00Speaker 2: you have to. So does that mean you by the
- 11:04Speaker 2: time this album, you know, hits streaming and and you
- 11:07Speaker 2: know wherever people are buying it download music that you're
- 11:10Speaker 2: like enjoy it.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I'm like I wrote, I wrote it.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I wrote a song yesterday and it's I think to me,
- 11:19Speaker 3: it's a banger. It's uh yeah, I just I'm already
- 11:25Speaker 3: starting to write. And like I said, I just if
- 11:28Speaker 3: my I have a plan to basically try and release
- 11:31Speaker 3: another album before this year's over, with a straight just
- 11:34Speaker 3: NonStop songs that I would play the show like you're
- 11:38Speaker 3: not going to get a damn beer right now. Uh.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And so that's that's my next plan for this album,
- 11:45Speaker 3: for the next album.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And my wallet appreciates no time to go get a
- 11:48Speaker 2: beer because arena beers ain't cheap, my dude.
- 11:50Speaker 3: All right, yeah, I don't, I don't. I don't want
- 11:53Speaker 3: anybody going home.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Hey dude, I know how busy you are and I
- 11:57Speaker 2: appreciate you taking the time out. Sorry we couldn't make
- 11:59Speaker 2: it down there, but next time.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, man, all good. I've been talking to everybody like
- 12:04Speaker 3: this today, so I'm used to it. Like I said,
- 12:06Speaker 3: I ain't been getting out. So that's what this album's about,
- 12:08Speaker 3: is trying to find personable stuff.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I feel that dude.
- 12:11Speaker 2: That's and that's that's a deeper talk man, because we're
- 12:13Speaker 2: doing the same thing like behind the scenes for the
- 12:15Speaker 2: both of us.
- 12:16Speaker 1: So it's I feel you man, that's there's there's something
- 12:18Speaker 1: in the water.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, brother, all right, I was talking to you man.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Good to see you man, best of the fan. Can
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'll talk to you later?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Ye seriously,
