- 0:38Speaker 3: Father Fred is one of the characters I want to
- 0:41Speaker 3: give you.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And there's like a sister Susan, but she's the want
- 0:51Speaker 2: She's the forbidden fruit.
- 0:53Speaker 4: He can't have her, but all the guys want her.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Right Wednesdays, you know, Catholic Wednesdays on NBC. We need
- 1:06Speaker 1: to workshop Fatherfred. He does things a little differences.

- 1:34Speaker 1: All right, welcome everybody, this is Patriots Unfiltered. And yes,
- 1:37Speaker 1: Father Fred is on assignment today shooting a new episode,
- 1:40Speaker 1: a new season of Father Fred coming out. So no
- 1:42Speaker 1: curse today, working hard. We put that all together. It
- 1:45Speaker 1: was pretty good.
- 1:46Speaker 8: I went to church on Saturday, just all I could
- 1:49Speaker 8: think of.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Was material it's Alex, it's Paul, it's Deuce, and we're
- 1:55Speaker 1: excited to be here with you. We uh, I guess
- 1:57Speaker 1: we're in a little bit of the void here.
- 1:58Speaker 4: We got Stevoid time.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we're officially in an offseason show now, but there
- 2:03Speaker 1: is some football to talk about. We got to see
- 2:05Speaker 1: the rookies last week on the field on Friday, got
- 2:08Speaker 1: a little look at them, and to me, though, it
- 2:10Speaker 1: wasn't the rookies that stood out Paul, it was Mike Rabel.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And I think this is what people have written, not
- 2:16Speaker 1: just because that's me, y' all know me. I love Rabel,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but I think across the board pretty much. And I
- 2:20Speaker 1: just read Mike's YARDI today, who wrote as well about it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Just how interesting it was watching Mike Rabel jump from
- 2:26Speaker 1: drill to drill, engaging every player that he was working with,
- 2:30Speaker 1: whether it was first round pick Will Campbell, whether it
- 2:33Speaker 1: was an undrafted tryout player. He just looked so in
- 2:36Speaker 1: his element throughout that practice. I couldn't take my eyes
- 2:40Speaker 1: off of him. It culminated when he hopped into seven
- 2:42Speaker 1: on sevens at inside linebacker and he took the stance
- 2:45Speaker 1: and everything. You just gotta get him a number fifty penny.
- 2:47Speaker 4: So this fifty one.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Who's fifty one? So you gotta get them fifty.
- 2:51Speaker 4: So this will a surprise. No one like that specific
- 2:54Speaker 4: part of it. I have not really a whole lot
- 2:56Speaker 4: of interesting And I know people are going to go
- 2:58Speaker 4: crazy about, oh he jumped in, he moved a guy
- 3:00Speaker 4: out of a gap, great, love it. What I was
- 3:04Speaker 4: really interested in is the stuff that you talked about initially,
- 3:06Speaker 4: just how effortlessly he bounces from group to group offense, defense,
- 3:12Speaker 4: special teams. Positionally. I don't recall that at all last year,
- 3:19Speaker 4: and I know that we're going to be constantly making
- 3:21Speaker 4: comparisons and they're probably not fair to do that to
- 3:23Speaker 4: Gerard Mayo. Mike has been a head coach in the
- 3:26Speaker 4: NFL for you know what five years in Tennessee at five,
- 3:31Speaker 4: you know, so he had, you know, obviously loads of
- 3:33Speaker 4: experience coming in, so he should be at a different
- 3:36Speaker 4: level than Gerrod Mayo was. But that was my big
- 3:39Speaker 4: takeaway from that. You know, that glimpse that we saw
- 3:41Speaker 4: for that hour of rookie mini camp was just how
- 3:44Speaker 4: actively involved he was with all areas of the team,
- 3:47Speaker 4: not just defense. Yeah, and again, I know what makes
- 3:50Speaker 4: for the great photo op and the great anecdote when
- 3:53Speaker 4: you see him actually engaged in lining up in seven
- 3:57Speaker 4: on seven's and moving people around and getting is you
- 4:00Speaker 4: know yeah, I mean Han's dirty and actually playing.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean more than just the novelty of him
- 4:05Speaker 1: being involved. It's just to me what stood out was
- 4:07Speaker 1: just this is what this guy loves to do. He
- 4:10Speaker 1: is just in it right now teaching. Put out a
- 4:13Speaker 1: clip from the documentary which will be coming off Friday.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Check that out of Rabel, you know, walking with Kaden
- 4:18Speaker 1: Wallace kind of using a little bit of I don't
- 4:20Speaker 1: know what you call those an example I guess of
- 4:22Speaker 1: walking together versus you know, me trying to push you
- 4:25Speaker 1: how hard it is. But it's just to me, it's
- 4:28Speaker 1: cool to see Mike Rabel out on the field and
- 4:29Speaker 1: working with guys. But I just love the passion. I
- 4:32Speaker 1: just love to see how much this guy loves to coach.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And the one thought that I had coming out of
- 4:36Speaker 1: that practice is like, this team is going to be
- 4:38Speaker 1: imprinted with Mike Rabel, like his handprints for better or worse,
- 4:41Speaker 1: whatever it means. He's going to be all over this team,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you know.
- 4:45Speaker 4: So there was one other thing that I you know,
- 4:47Speaker 4: you had mentioned about the you know, like doesn't matter
- 4:52Speaker 4: Will Campbell or some tryout guy. So one of the
- 4:54Speaker 4: tryout guys is a guy named Hector Johnson. Right, He's
- 4:58Speaker 4: a defensive lineman played for Endicott College. My nephew full disclosure,
- 5:02Speaker 4: my nephew is on the coaching staff at Endicott. So
- 5:05Speaker 4: I have a little bit of a you know, personal
- 5:08Speaker 4: interest in this particular kid. He's from the Wister area,
- 5:11Speaker 4: a great story overcame a lot and he I mean
- 5:16Speaker 4: Division three, but an absolutely dynamite Division three football player.
- 5:20Speaker 4: He was an edge rusher for Endicott. They had a
- 5:23Speaker 4: lot of success over his career there. They've been a
- 5:25Speaker 4: playoff team consistently in the Division three playoffs. This past
- 5:29Speaker 4: year they won a game in the Division three playoffs
- 5:31Speaker 4: for the first time. He's not going to be an
- 5:34Speaker 4: edge rusher in the NFL, so he's going to have
- 5:36Speaker 4: to make a he just he's a Division three for
- 5:39Speaker 4: a reason. He doesn't have sort of the size requirements.
- 5:43Speaker 4: He's like six foot you know, most guys on the edge,
- 5:45Speaker 4: you know, looking at six four, you know, so we'd
- 5:47Speaker 4: be a really undersized guy. So they're changing him to
- 5:51Speaker 4: more of a traditional off the ball linebacker. He's been
- 5:54Speaker 4: in the middle. And you mentioned that Mike Grabil's working
- 5:57Speaker 4: with everybody. I got some interaction with my nephew who
- 6:02Speaker 4: I saw on Mother's Day, and he had talked to
- 6:07Speaker 4: Hector a little bit, and he was really blown away
- 6:09Speaker 4: with how much interest Mike took in him. And he
- 6:12Speaker 4: is not a guy who got a county. They signed
- 6:14Speaker 4: a couple of guys and we probably will get to
- 6:16Speaker 4: that in a little bit. They signed I think three
- 6:18Speaker 4: of the guys that were here on tryouts and this
- 6:23Speaker 4: was not one of them. But it just kind of
- 6:24Speaker 4: speaks to me of how invested Mike is in the
- 6:28Speaker 4: development of all of the players, not just as you said, Mike,
- 6:32Speaker 4: not just Will Campbell, all of the players. That really
- 6:34Speaker 4: stood out to me how much interaction he had and
- 6:36Speaker 4: to hear behind the scenes look at that. I think
- 6:40Speaker 4: that kind of backed it up.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah, just real quick, I mean out, it's not just
- 6:43Speaker 1: on the field. You're going tomorrow off the field, big
- 6:45Speaker 1: event to mow for Patriots players. They're gonna be going
- 6:47Speaker 1: to a bunch of different community places.
- 6:48Speaker 8: I think there's six different groups going to various places
- 6:52Speaker 8: in the community throughout Greater Boston. There's some Dorchester spots Cambridge.
- 6:57Speaker 8: But yeah, the whole team, coaches included, all going to
- 7:00Speaker 8: be volunteering out in the community. We started this last year.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Last year was the first time.
- 7:05Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, last year was the first the first time
- 7:08Speaker 8: at least since I've been here. I don't know if
- 7:09Speaker 8: they did that prior. But uh, it was a great day.
- 7:12Speaker 8: I had a lot of fun covering the event, and
- 7:14Speaker 8: just when you get that many of the guys together
- 7:16Speaker 8: out in the community, they really have fun with it too,
- 7:19Speaker 8: probably a little more so than usual. So yeah, group
- 7:22Speaker 8: I'm gonna go with yet tomorrow.
- 7:23Speaker 4: But was this the event last year that Drake was
- 7:26Speaker 4: playing dodgeball that was great? Is that one of these things?
- 7:31Speaker 4: Maybe maybe it wasn't the group.
- 7:32Speaker 8: It might have been honestly, six groups. Well that's the
- 7:37Speaker 8: thing is, and we were trying to get some help.
- 7:40Speaker 8: It didn't work out. But yeah, I'm like picking and
- 7:42Speaker 8: cheese which group I can go with. But I don't
- 7:46Speaker 8: know if that was just a regular boys and girls
- 7:49Speaker 8: visit for Drake or if it was the community day.
- 7:52Speaker 8: You might be right. I wasn't with him on his group,
- 7:56Speaker 8: but Drake is actually out in the community quite a bit.
- 7:59Speaker 1: So the kid who had to take the ball still
- 8:02Speaker 1: in implanted on his head. He still remembers what day
- 8:04Speaker 1: it was.
- 8:05Speaker 8: Never forget that video out.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I mean I gained more respect for him when I'm like, oh,
- 8:11Speaker 1: he's going right for it.
- 8:12Speaker 4: You know, that's competitive. Get out there, kids, they cap scoring.
- 8:17Speaker 8: You know, my first uh, not Drake, but Robert Spolaine,
- 8:22Speaker 8: My first encounter with him ever was at we did
- 8:24Speaker 8: a football camp at the Newport Navy Base, which was
- 8:28Speaker 8: actually funny because Cardona showed up in his military uniform
- 8:31Speaker 8: and then changed into his football outfit. But Robert Spulaine,
- 8:35Speaker 8: there's these little chill like I don't think there's a
- 8:38Speaker 8: single kid over eleven years old there, and they're running
- 8:41Speaker 8: these drills and Spolaine is just pulling back no punges,
- 8:44Speaker 8: like he's throwing these kids around on mats. And it's
- 8:47Speaker 8: funny because normal parents might be like, oh, be careful,
- 8:50Speaker 8: but it was all like military dads, like the guys
- 8:53Speaker 8: in the knees like yeah, get up. It was so funny.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's okay, Well real quick, you know, if you're looking
- 8:59Speaker 1: for a job you want to be I guess one
- 9:01Speaker 1: of our colleagues Sport. The home team joined New England's
- 9:03Speaker 1: events staff here at to Lett Stadium. Seasonal positions available
- 9:06Speaker 1: in food and beverage, parking and security. Visit www. Thecraftgroup
- 9:10Speaker 1: dot com, slash careers and apply today. You get some
- 9:13Speaker 1: people in here, you know, work with us.
- 9:16Speaker 4: No, I thought we were trying to encourage them to.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Trying to scare people. But Paul, to your point.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Earlier on Mike's got the death shout out, watch it, watch.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Chokes, I came. I even made notes today, so we
- 9:27Speaker 1: have things to talk about. Uh. But yeah, it was
- 9:30Speaker 1: Mackay Butler as well as Isaiah Eaton, and they officially
- 9:35Speaker 1: signed Willifred Pine, who was a pee. I believe is.
- 9:39Speaker 4: That how you pronounce that one? Not Pine?
- 9:42Speaker 8: Is it French?
- 9:44Speaker 1: He's an international player.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I believe he's he goes down as an international player.
- 9:48Speaker 4: So's Mike's probably.
- 9:50Speaker 1: That's ninety one. He's the ninety first.
- 9:51Speaker 4: He's the ninety first guy. Uh. And they did release
- 9:54Speaker 4: one of the.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Libel Burdau from whom Merrimack.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Who was from Merrimac. Yeah, so it's another sort of
- 10:00Speaker 4: local tie and I thought that was interesting and I
- 10:02Speaker 4: really liked it Mike talking on Friday before we went
- 10:06Speaker 4: out to practice. You know, they brought it in. I
- 10:08Speaker 4: think there is well, I don't know, fifteen or sixteen
- 10:13Speaker 4: guys on tryouts in addition to you know, you know
- 10:17Speaker 4: the whatever eleven. You know, there's probably another twenty draft
- 10:22Speaker 4: picks in udfa's right. So one of the things that
- 10:26Speaker 4: Mike talked about was wanting to get some local kids
- 10:30Speaker 4: that didn't necessarily sign somewhere, but give them an opportunity,
- 10:35Speaker 4: you know, another every guy, right. Jake Wilcox was one
- 10:40Speaker 4: of those tryout guys for as a quarterback who had
- 10:43Speaker 4: a pretty solid career at Brown. Undersized kid obviously, that's
- 10:47Speaker 4: why he didn't get drafted. But I liked that idea
- 10:51Speaker 4: from Mike. You know, take a kid from Merrimack, give
- 10:53Speaker 4: him a shot, you know, Endicott College Division III, give
- 10:57Speaker 4: him a shot, you know, and if they if they
- 10:58Speaker 4: come in. I mean, listen, Malcolm Butler was one of
- 11:02Speaker 4: these guys. Yeah, Malcolm Butler came in the spring of
- 11:07Speaker 4: you know OTAs and all that as a tryout guy,
- 11:10Speaker 4: not even a full fledged UDFA. You know, he had
- 11:13Speaker 4: to earn that. Like, these are the names that Mike
- 11:16Speaker 4: just read and then he fought his way onto the roster.
- 11:20Speaker 8: So working at like a Popeyes or something Jangles.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it was Popeyes.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I love those stories guys that have to dabble in
- 11:27Speaker 1: the real world a little bit and then they come
- 11:29Speaker 1: back and then they appreciate a little bit more what
- 11:31Speaker 1: it means to get this opportunity. We got to talk
- 11:35Speaker 1: about it. People want to know who stood out at
- 11:37Speaker 1: rookie Mini camp I think Paul and I both nobody
- 11:41Speaker 1: fall under the category of just cool to see them
- 11:44Speaker 1: out there. But it's hard to really make any kind
- 11:48Speaker 1: of judgments. I would say, you know, Kyle Williams right
- 11:51Speaker 1: in there, looked involved, was active, same thing with us.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Just looks smooth to me. But you know, I'm not
- 11:57Speaker 4: talking about any evaluations. I'm just talking about how they
- 11:59Speaker 4: looked in the uniform.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I thought he looked like he you know, he looked
- 12:03Speaker 4: like a wide receiver. He looked pretty smooth. He looked
- 12:06Speaker 4: like he looked like an athlete.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And check me if I'm wrong. Will Campbell looked like
- 12:09Speaker 1: an offensive lineman out there, and yeah, you know, getting
- 12:11Speaker 1: getting involved. I think it's a tough situation though for
- 12:14Speaker 1: him when he's got a stand next to b c's
- 12:15Speaker 1: Jack Conley, who is I believe six seven and makes
- 12:18Speaker 1: Will Campbell almost look small. I don't think he's a
- 12:21Speaker 1: small guy. But the one thing that stood out to
- 12:24Speaker 1: me other than I know, I know that's see six eight.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's just towering. But I think the thing that stood
- 12:30Speaker 1: out to me other than player evaluations for that hour
- 12:33Speaker 1: plus that we were in that bubble was just the
- 12:36Speaker 1: type of practice. Because we've talked about it before, Mayo
- 12:40Speaker 1: kind of an extension of Belichick's practices felt vaguely similar.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I know you you have some nuance there if you
- 12:45Speaker 1: felt like it took a little while for them to
- 12:46Speaker 1: get going. Yeah, didn't feel like this with Rabel. But
- 12:49Speaker 1: it just feels like a different practice. It doesn't feel
- 12:51Speaker 1: like it's kind of coming out of the same tree.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I mean, just the same example would be Patriots always have,
- 12:58Speaker 1: as I've seen, stretched while they're walking. They kind of
- 13:01Speaker 1: one defense on one end on one sideline, offense on
- 13:03Speaker 1: one sideline. They kind of walked to the middle, they
- 13:05Speaker 1: touched their totally. They stretched. Now it was more of
- 13:08Speaker 1: a stationary which was like I did it in high school,
- 13:10Speaker 1: the captain sit up, front, and you know, everybody sits
- 13:12Speaker 1: in lines and you kind of sit and stretch it. Now, way,
- 13:14Speaker 1: did you see it's different in the back doing the
- 13:16Speaker 1: freshman you know, freshman year. I don't know we did
- 13:19Speaker 1: my my junior year. I only played my freshman junior
- 13:21Speaker 1: year though, so but as a fresh crap I was
- 13:24Speaker 1: near the back after the captain had stolen my power
- 13:27Speaker 1: path front. I was a front row girl really right
- 13:29Speaker 1: from the get go as a freshman making your presence.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I tried.
- 13:34Speaker 8: I tried to hang in the back, but eventually, like
- 13:36Speaker 8: the coach would be like, Francisco, I'll get up here.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I don't know, you got the name. What's the name too?
- 13:41Speaker 1: Just you gotta be good at Francisco.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Cisco, Francisco, get up here.
- 13:45Speaker 9: You know.
- 13:46Speaker 8: There's a time in track where we started doing going
- 13:48Speaker 8: to the weight room and doing lifting, and I was
- 13:51Speaker 8: just trying to be in the back, like not fitting in,
- 13:54Speaker 8: but had a little bit of experience weightlifting. One of
- 13:56Speaker 8: my cousins owned a gym, and I then somehow found
- 14:00Speaker 8: myself as like the form demonstrator for.
- 14:04Speaker 1: For what not a big deal for squats? Yeah, yeah,
- 14:07Speaker 1: those are hard. I need to do the you ever
- 14:09Speaker 1: have to do the ones where you put the bar
- 14:10Speaker 1: over your head, the snatch squats, you have the bar
- 14:12Speaker 1: up over your head and then you got to go
- 14:14Speaker 1: down with your arms.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Out like this.
- 14:15Speaker 8: Is that like a cross?
- 14:16Speaker 1: I did not demonstrate that. No, that was one of
- 14:18Speaker 1: our donkey train anything. It was hard for me. I
- 14:20Speaker 1: was really toy, very toy, not flexible.
- 14:25Speaker 4: That's why.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Exactly right, Well, so we're gonna be here for two hours,
- 14:30Speaker 1: catching you guys up. Fred is busy. Evan. I don't
- 14:33Speaker 1: know what Kendrick Lamar, he had already taken the day off,
- 14:38Speaker 1: so it was morning thing.
- 14:39Speaker 4: I don't really buy the Kendrick Lamar excuse. I think
- 14:42Speaker 4: he's in mourning.
- 14:43Speaker 8: Well, I need to know if he was watching the
- 14:45Speaker 8: game during the concert or like when he found out
- 14:48Speaker 8: about the tatum is.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Probably for the best.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Just how much fucking out how much it affected him.
- 14:52Speaker 8: Or was it something that like one person heard about
- 14:55Speaker 8: it in the stadium and it started traveling throughout you know,
- 14:59Speaker 8: I need to recap.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I hope he had a few drinks and he realized
- 15:02Speaker 1: what direction and then.
- 15:03Speaker 8: He probably cried.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Do you think it ruined the concert for him?
- 15:07Speaker 1: I think for me I can't lie.
- 15:09Speaker 8: I lost sleep last night.
- 15:11Speaker 4: I felt bad for Tatum.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I did.
- 15:13Speaker 4: I mean, know, I know these guys make a lot
- 15:15Speaker 4: of money and all that stuff, and you're like, oh,
- 15:17Speaker 4: what do you know? You think? You know, it's like
- 15:19Speaker 4: the Bronx tail. You know, you think you think you're
- 15:21Speaker 4: old man. You know you think Mickey manno cares about
- 15:23Speaker 4: your old man. You know, like, I get it. They
- 15:26Speaker 4: make a lot of money, they're famous people. You know,
- 15:28Speaker 4: he'll get over it. But I just felt bad for
- 15:31Speaker 4: him last night.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Me too. I I mean, I was actually watching last night.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I had to turn.
- 15:35Speaker 4: You could tell it was an impactful injury just by
- 15:37Speaker 4: the look on his face. Not so much pain, but
- 15:41Speaker 4: the look to me was telling me that he knows.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It's gonna be a long run.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I'm in trouble. I'm gonna be out for a while.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Yeah see, I haven't really seen any updates.
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's good though. I'm the host so I can grill
- 15:50Speaker 1: the two super Celtics Celtics AX Celtics.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I just I'm a bomb tosser.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Is it over? Is it over? People? Can the Celtics
- 16:00Speaker 1: bounce back if they don't have Jason Tatum? Down three
- 16:02Speaker 1: one they got to win three straight.
- 16:04Speaker 4: To the fan, I think they might.
- 16:05Speaker 8: Rally one game in honor of Tatum, but it's.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Just the death rattle this What is it tomorrow night
- 16:12Speaker 1: at Boston or are they take them? Is it Thursday night?
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
- 16:15Speaker 8: I got a double check. After Tita went down. I
- 16:18Speaker 8: shut the game off because I could just tell it
- 16:20Speaker 8: was so bad, and I was speculating on what it
- 16:23Speaker 8: could be an achilles and like, there's no worse injury
- 16:27Speaker 8: you can face.
- 16:27Speaker 1: No, it's adding injury to insult, Isn't it? Like that's
- 16:31Speaker 1: the worst you're you know you're gonna lose if. I'm
- 16:34Speaker 1: so used to watching kids sports right now, but I
- 16:36Speaker 1: like that was the vibe that I got instantly of like,
- 16:38Speaker 1: oh man, this is going bad and then somebody gets
- 16:41Speaker 1: hurt and just goes from bad to worse, especially with Tatum.
- 16:44Speaker 1: But I'm sure we'll get plenty of Evan tomorrow. It
- 16:47Speaker 1: is tomorrow, no day off, one.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Day off, and the day today day. I like those
- 16:52Speaker 4: should be every other tea.
- 16:53Speaker 1: The game was last night or it's tonight, either way,
- 16:55Speaker 1: but we'll get a catch up with Evan for sure
- 16:58Speaker 1: tomorrow and catch twenty two I'm sure I'll have him
- 17:00Speaker 1: and outs plenty to say. Give us a call though,
- 17:02Speaker 1: eight five to five, Pats five hundred, send us an email,
- 17:05Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot com. Love to hear from
- 17:07Speaker 1: you guys. So some big stuff also going on this week.
- 17:10Speaker 1: We've got the schedule coming out tomorrow. That's big news.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Many people in this building right now working on our
- 17:16Speaker 1: schedule release video. So excited to share that with you guys.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And what do you guys think about the schedule anything
- 17:22Speaker 1: we know now? It doesn't look like no international games
- 17:26Speaker 1: right which from Paul, it doesn't really matter to us.
- 17:29Speaker 1: We don't really travel that much.
- 17:30Speaker 4: And it was which I was always wondering, you know,
- 17:32Speaker 4: like we did to Germany a couple of years ago.
- 17:34Speaker 4: That was kind of a special trip. I was kind
- 17:36Speaker 4: of in the back of my mind saying I could
- 17:40Speaker 4: have talked myself into that trip. Yeah, but you know,
- 17:43Speaker 4: I didn't really have much faith that we were going
- 17:46Speaker 4: after having gone international the last two years.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's what they said, a little bit
- 17:51Speaker 1: of a reprieve after going international for both gams. But
- 17:54Speaker 1: I got to experience England at some point, Paul with you,
- 17:57Speaker 1: because you make it sound like, like you say, were
- 17:59Speaker 1: the Beatles there, right, big big PU fan contingent.
- 18:03Speaker 4: I believe I did say we were the Beatles there,
- 18:05Speaker 4: but I'm not sure that I coded you as part.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Of we there, Me and Andy and Fred.
- 18:13Speaker 8: He was like Pete best more so than when we
- 18:15Speaker 8: were in Germany.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, but Germany was great too. It's good
- 18:19Speaker 4: for the ego, I will say.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Only time, especially when you're front of the especially when
- 18:24Speaker 1: you're front of the CEO craft entertainment, you're getting tapped up.
- 18:28Speaker 4: You don't realized that was this big of a deal,
- 18:30Speaker 4: did you? Adding some zero C into that salary?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Uh so? Just to throw some of the opponents up
- 18:38Speaker 1: here for those of you who aren't familiar with who
- 18:40Speaker 1: the Patriots had playing this year, the home games of course,
- 18:43Speaker 1: the AFC East opponents. Then Cleveland and Pittsburgh from the
- 18:46Speaker 1: AFC North, Atlanta Carolina from the NFC South, the Raiders,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and the Giants. Number of changes. I kind of mentioned
- 18:53Speaker 1: this last week, Paul, I like, after the draft, you
- 18:56Speaker 1: kind of go back to some of these opponents, and
- 18:58Speaker 1: now they have like the Giants of Jackson Dart. Now
- 19:01Speaker 1: it's a new you know. And Abdul Carter Raiders are
- 19:04Speaker 1: now with Pete Carroll and they've you know, brought in
- 19:07Speaker 1: Smith or Smith g you know, Smith to be their quarterback.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You know, Carolina continuing to build, Atlanta continuing to build. Pittsburgh,
- 19:13Speaker 1: maybe Aaron Rodgers, Cleveland, maybe Shder Sanders. I don't know.
- 19:17Speaker 1: They're starting to throw there a little bit. But all
- 19:20Speaker 1: those teams, at least the home portion gone under some
- 19:23Speaker 1: significant transition on the away front. New Orleans, Derek Carr retires,
- 19:27Speaker 1: Tampa Bay they're still building. I think they just drafted
- 19:31Speaker 1: another wide receiver a second ago.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Tampa is a good team. I think people just overlook
- 19:35Speaker 4: Tampa and they they've been good. Even since Brady left.
- 19:38Speaker 4: They continued to be, you know, a pretty reasonably talented
- 19:43Speaker 4: team that has won some games.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield something there. You think.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I think he's okay. I think he makes too many
- 19:49Speaker 4: mistakes still, I know, but as Fred likes to say,
- 19:52Speaker 4: let Baker bake, Baker bak, let Baker bake, and the
- 19:54Speaker 4: league is better with Baker Mayfield.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Such an interesting guy.
- 19:57Speaker 4: I don't understand why, but that's what Fred said.
- 19:59Speaker 1: We saw him here in the preseason with Carolina. A
- 20:01Speaker 1: couple of years ago. I was like, this guy's done.
- 20:03Speaker 1: He can't play anymore, and it's it's one of those
- 20:06Speaker 1: experiences that's forever in the back of my civil too.
- 20:09Speaker 8: I remember looking at him too and being like that,
- 20:11Speaker 8: the guy looks like any dude I went high school with.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I mean, they got they had Donald and Baker Mayfield
- 20:16Speaker 1: there at the same time, and they couldn't get either
- 20:18Speaker 1: one of those guys to work. It's just funny how
- 20:20Speaker 1: you look back on some of those things.
- 20:22Speaker 8: Situation is everything.
- 20:24Speaker 1: We're just sharing a story I shared with Paul. I'm
- 20:26Speaker 1: doing a little digging on the eighty five season for
- 20:28Speaker 1: some stuff we're writing for for Game Day magazine this year,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and was watching the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- 20:34Speaker 1: where Steve de Burg's in at quarterback and they're showing
- 20:36Speaker 1: Steve Young on the sidelines that they like, they can't
- 20:39Speaker 1: put him in yet. I guess they did. Did he
- 20:40Speaker 1: come over like midyear or something. I don't remember us
- 20:43Speaker 1: from the USFL, but express it's you look at this
- 20:45Speaker 1: and it's you got a Hall of Fame quarterback sitting
- 20:48Speaker 1: on the sidelines. But I could just like you get
- 20:50Speaker 1: your head ringing. You're like your voice ringing in my
- 20:52Speaker 1: ear as I'm like, no, we can't, we can't play him.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Steve de Berg, we got we gotta ride it down
- 20:57Speaker 4: to st Berger.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Gross.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's just that that's another example, though, where
- 21:06Speaker 4: you know the fit and where you go, Like you
- 21:08Speaker 4: just mentioned Mayfield in Donald or Carolina, And I'm not
- 21:12Speaker 4: saying either one of those guys is Tom Brady two
- 21:14Speaker 4: point zero, Okay, but they've both last year demonstrated that
- 21:18Speaker 4: if you if you surround them with some structure, their
- 21:23Speaker 4: competent NFL quarterbacks. Okay, maybe Donald isn't as good as
- 21:27Speaker 4: he looked for most of the year and he kind
- 21:29Speaker 4: of regressed to the mean by the end of the season,
- 21:32Speaker 4: but he showed you that he can play the position
- 21:34Speaker 4: at least at an average level.
- 21:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 4: In Carolina, they look neither one of those guys looked
- 21:41Speaker 4: like they couldn't even play anymore. Yeah, and now that
- 21:43Speaker 4: you know they were both leading playoff teams last year.
- 21:46Speaker 4: That's on Carolina. I'm sorry, that's not the two quarterbacks faults.
- 21:50Speaker 4: They showed you if they get to an organization that
- 21:53Speaker 4: has an idea of how to win games, they can
- 21:55Speaker 4: win games.
- 21:56Speaker 1: What itever occurred to you when we were watching those
- 21:58Speaker 1: guys that like, man, you guys, you guys be a
- 22:00Speaker 1: lot better off if you could swap Mac Jones for
- 22:02Speaker 1: either one of those guys right now. I mean, maybe
- 22:04Speaker 1: it doesn't make sense to your point of did the
- 22:06Speaker 1: Patriots have the infrastructure around the quarterback to let them
- 22:10Speaker 1: have that success that they've had. I mean you look
- 22:13Speaker 1: at what Baker Mayfield has.
- 22:14Speaker 4: And yeah, they do have talent.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Donald had talent last year too.
- 22:19Speaker 4: You know Tampa, you know, with with Evans and Godwin
- 22:22Speaker 4: and then Minnesota obviously with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison
- 22:25Speaker 4: was just that makes a big difference. They what do
- 22:28Speaker 4: they have in Carolina?
- 22:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, no one really Adam to the corpse
- 22:33Speaker 1: of out Adam Thielen I think is of course.
- 22:38Speaker 4: That's all they got, disrespectful to Adam Bailey.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Hey, Patriots sans. If you want to see Toyota's best offers,
- 22:44Speaker 1: including those not seen on TV, go to buy at
- 22:46Speaker 1: toyota dot com. It's Toyota's official website for deals from
- 22:49Speaker 1: the official vehicle of the New England Patriots. Toyota. Let's
- 22:52Speaker 1: go places Sure resurrecting resurrecting Fred's thing.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Uh.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I don't know if it's too soon to jump over
- 23:00Speaker 1: to the phones here, but it's never too soon too soon.
- 23:02Speaker 1: But I'm feeling like a little trip down to Providence. Hey, Randy,
- 23:05Speaker 1: what's going on?
- 23:07Speaker 10: Hey?
- 23:08Speaker 11: How the girl?
- 23:08Speaker 6: Guys?
- 23:10Speaker 11: I'm all right.
- 23:12Speaker 10: I had one question and a couple. Uh. Well, I
- 23:17Speaker 10: guess two questions. Kind of do you guys catch any
- 23:21Speaker 10: of the there's like some post draft news, you know.
- 23:24Speaker 10: And I thought it was a little bit confirming of
- 23:28Speaker 10: the peck right because Mason Graham he looked, it looked
- 23:34Speaker 10: really rough, you know, his practices in Cleveland and then
- 23:38Speaker 10: like and he had kind of been an option that
- 23:40Speaker 10: people had kind of kicked around. I didn't think it
- 23:43Speaker 10: was seriously given they had already invested in Milan Williams.
- 23:48Speaker 10: But my question about the practices the other guy was
- 23:51Speaker 10: about Trade Brown Henderson.
- 23:53Speaker 6: Did he ever make it.
- 23:54Speaker 10: Into the rookie medicamp because he wasn't there the first day?
- 23:57Speaker 11: Yeah, And do.
- 23:59Speaker 10: You guys know why he wasn't there? And is that
- 24:01Speaker 10: something to be you know, concerned about going forward? Was
- 24:04Speaker 10: it contract related? Was it injury related?
- 24:07Speaker 1: Yeah? He was he was out there the next day
- 24:09Speaker 1: we put out some pictures in practicing. I don't know exactly.
- 24:12Speaker 1: It might have just been contract related, like working out
- 24:15Speaker 1: some final details. Maybe that's just me speculating, but it
- 24:18Speaker 1: seemed like they signed all those guys at once, and
- 24:21Speaker 1: maybe he was one of the ones they couldn't quite
- 24:22Speaker 1: get done into.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and you don't have to sign to be on
- 24:25Speaker 4: the field at Rooky Minnichamp, just you know, up front.
- 24:29Speaker 4: So my guess is that it was whatever it was,
- 24:31Speaker 4: was minor, because as Mike said, we did have some
- 24:34Speaker 4: pictures of him on Saturday. I was wondering just sometimes
- 24:40Speaker 4: at this time of year, these guys go back and graduate,
- 24:43Speaker 4: and I don't know if maybe he was, you know,
- 24:46Speaker 4: it might have been a personal situation where he wanted
- 24:49Speaker 4: I'm not saying that that's what he did because he
- 24:51Speaker 4: was there the next day. I don't know, you know,
- 24:54Speaker 4: but that that sometimes happens with rookies is they want
- 24:57Speaker 4: to be part of the graduating class, and I I
- 25:00Speaker 4: think that's great when they do it. But I don't
- 25:03Speaker 4: know why he wasn't there, and I'm not overlly concerned
- 25:05Speaker 4: about it.
- 25:07Speaker 6: That makes sense.
- 25:08Speaker 10: Somebody had mentioned that one of the other second round
- 25:11Speaker 10: picks had signed like a fully guaranteed contract, and that
- 25:14Speaker 10: like hypothesize, I guess that maybe that was the hold
- 25:21Speaker 10: up that everybody in the second round was now looking for.
- 25:24Speaker 4: So that could be. That could be in terms of
- 25:26Speaker 4: signing contracts, Randy, that's absolutely a good point. I think
- 25:29Speaker 4: it was was was it Higgins? Jalen Higgins, Jayden Higgins.
- 25:33Speaker 4: I think he's the one that signed fully guaranteed. So
- 25:37Speaker 4: that's something to keep an eye on if the second
- 25:39Speaker 4: round picks end up, you know, being delayed a little bit.
- 25:42Speaker 4: But again in general terms, that wouldn't keep a guy
- 25:45Speaker 4: off the mini camp field. They signed where they get,
- 25:48Speaker 4: they get their money anyway.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so nothing to worry about, little think. Thanks Randy,
- 25:53Speaker 1: appreciate it. So jump over to Frez no Speed Speed.
- 25:58Speaker 12: What what's going on?
- 25:59Speaker 13: He got hear me?
- 26:00Speaker 6: Okay?
- 26:00Speaker 1: Are you great?
- 26:01Speaker 10: Hey?
- 26:02Speaker 11: Hey?
- 26:04Speaker 14: It's exciting for the you know, all the all the
- 26:06Speaker 14: stuff he's been happening the offseason. I guess just think
- 26:08Speaker 14: about Drake May and you know he's spraying the ball
- 26:11Speaker 14: a bit last year in his rookie year, and it's
- 26:15Speaker 14: kind of to be expected. There's going to be some
- 26:17Speaker 14: some struggles but there's a lot to be optimistic about.
- 26:20Speaker 14: I guess I wanted to ask coming into this season,
- 26:24Speaker 14: what do you what do you look? What are you realists?
- 26:26Speaker 14: Do excuse me, realistically expect? And at what point might
- 26:31Speaker 14: you start to worry if he's still spraying the ball,
- 26:33Speaker 14: like at what week's week three, week four, week six? Ooh,
- 26:37Speaker 14: maybe there's some concerns here. I don't know, what do
- 26:40Speaker 14: you guys think?
- 26:41Speaker 4: Thanks be, I would say if he's if he's turning
- 26:45Speaker 4: the ball over again, I don't care how many weeks
- 26:49Speaker 4: it is, that would be concerning to me. I'm expecting
- 26:52Speaker 4: to turn I think we talked about this a little
- 26:53Speaker 4: bit last week. I'm expecting the turnover number to drop dramatically.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I think having a guy like Ray and Josh McDaniels
- 27:03Speaker 4: on him, I think will will limit some of the mistakes.
- 27:07Speaker 4: But if they don't, and it's like Spee said, it's
- 27:11Speaker 4: kind of like as a result of just continuing to
- 27:14Speaker 4: spray the ball, because I don't think he made a
- 27:16Speaker 4: ton of bad decisions last year on his turnovers, like
- 27:20Speaker 4: mostly interceptions in the NFL will generally in general terms,
- 27:23Speaker 4: they have bad decisions misreading the coverage or trying to
- 27:27Speaker 4: jam one in that we're just not there. A lot
- 27:31Speaker 4: of May's last year I thought were just bad throws
- 27:35Speaker 4: because I do think it gets away from him every
- 27:36Speaker 4: once in a while. So if that continues, that's not
- 27:38Speaker 4: a good sign.
- 27:39Speaker 1: That's I mean, it's a good question. I mean, I
- 27:41Speaker 1: think that's the thing that is going to define this
- 27:44Speaker 1: Patriots season. I think they're going to be a solid team,
- 27:46Speaker 1: but how good. I don't want to simplify it and
- 27:49Speaker 1: say that Drake May's going to determine this team's entire ceiling.
- 27:53Speaker 1: But he's the quarterback sort of.
- 27:55Speaker 8: He's so much more going for him this season in
- 27:58Speaker 8: terms of coaching, in terms of the web bins he.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Has now, So yeah, try to get digs up to
- 28:04Speaker 1: speed quick. You know, how does how does that all
- 28:07Speaker 1: play out with the receivers?
- 28:08Speaker 4: But boy Diggs was in New York last night.
- 28:10Speaker 8: Cardi B, Cardi B and the Kendall Jenner.
- 28:14Speaker 1: He's got like some style he had on like a
- 28:15Speaker 1: like a hood kind of.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't he go to the Metdala?
- 28:19Speaker 8: Yeah, he was at the met Gala. I thought we
- 28:21Speaker 8: fumbled the bag with the Instagram caption that we did.
- 28:24Speaker 8: We posted a picture of him at the met gala
- 28:26Speaker 8: with like the fur we should have put King of
- 28:28Speaker 8: the North. It's good.
- 28:30Speaker 1: That's good. Well, hopefully uh back sooner than later. I'll's
- 28:35Speaker 1: jump over here in North Carolina and Todd Hey talked.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Hey, guys are gonna start with an apology. When you
- 28:40Speaker 2: guys were talking sandwiches, I kept thinking that, Yeah, last
- 28:43Speaker 2: year the Patriots had way too much mail under sandwich.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I'm sorry, dudes, I know I just kind of wrecked
- 28:49Speaker 2: your stick there with that thought.
- 28:53Speaker 15: True.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I really want to know is kind of related to that.
- 28:59Speaker 2: How do you feel the cult is this year compared
- 29:01Speaker 2: to last year, with you know, rabled hands on approach,
- 29:05Speaker 2: the just the engagement with the players, the more media president.
- 29:09Speaker 16: There seems to be more.
- 29:12Speaker 2: More coming out of what they're doing and what's going
- 29:14Speaker 2: on and where their approaches in last year.
- 29:17Speaker 12: How do you guys feel about that?
- 29:20Speaker 4: I haven't really sensed it. I mean, I think the
- 29:24Speaker 4: culture last year at this time of year was outstanding.
- 29:27Speaker 4: I think the players spoke glowingly about you know, Gerrod
- 29:32Speaker 4: Mayo's treating them like men. And the one thing that
- 29:36Speaker 4: I would agree with Todd there is I do feel
- 29:39Speaker 4: like it's been more football talk that we're hearing now
- 29:43Speaker 4: than we did last year, and I think it's pretty obvious.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I don't think that they knew exactly what you know.
- 29:47Speaker 4: I made a big deal of it at the time.
- 29:50Speaker 4: They had an opportunity to do a couple of these
- 29:52Speaker 4: weeks and they chose not to because they claimed they
- 29:54Speaker 4: weren't ready to. So I think football wise, they're ahead
- 29:57Speaker 4: of where they were last year at this time. Culture wise,
- 30:01Speaker 4: I would say it's pretty good right now from everything
- 30:03Speaker 4: I'm hearing. But I thought it was pretty good last
- 30:05Speaker 4: year from everything I heard, and that didn't really change
- 30:08Speaker 4: until you got into the season and the losses started
- 30:11Speaker 4: piling up. Yeah, and then we started hearing every game
- 30:14Speaker 4: postgame bad stuff.
- 30:16Speaker 8: I think last year too, a lot of our leaders
- 30:17Speaker 8: were defensive guys that had known Mayo for years before
- 30:21Speaker 8: he came loved and they had such a vested interest
- 30:24Speaker 8: in him being promoted to that level and him doing
- 30:27Speaker 8: really well. So in hindsight, maybe it was like, maybe
- 30:31Speaker 8: he was too much of their friend than their coach situation.
- 30:36Speaker 8: But yeah, looking back now I'm starting I'm like, Okay,
- 30:39Speaker 8: the vibes are really high, but taking it with a
- 30:41Speaker 8: grain of salt.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel a little more sense of an identity,
- 30:44Speaker 1: But I just I.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Think I do too.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I'm struggling with that with right now. Is it's hard
- 30:49Speaker 1: to compliment Mike Frabele and this team without it seeming
- 30:53Speaker 1: like you're trying to take a dump on what was before.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And there are certainly elements where people out there
- 30:59Speaker 1: are serving things and they're directly trying to take a
- 31:02Speaker 1: dump on last year. But it was the same thing
- 31:04Speaker 1: to last year, when everything you wanted to say nice
- 31:07Speaker 1: about Mayo it felt like, well, you're taking a dump
- 31:09Speaker 1: on Bill and I mean, and to be fair, sometimes
- 31:12Speaker 1: I think they did overtly take a dump home, you
- 31:14Speaker 1: know what, They.
- 31:15Speaker 4: That regime had no problems doing that. I totally agree
- 31:20Speaker 4: with your summation of that because I do feel like
- 31:22Speaker 4: every time I talk about something that I like about Rabel,
- 31:25Speaker 4: I'd have to offer the disclaim show.
- 31:29Speaker 8: Yeah, it's like the pendulum was here with Bill swung
- 31:32Speaker 8: all the way over with Mayo. I hope we're back
- 31:34Speaker 8: somewhere in the middle.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And I just I want to always try to be
- 31:37Speaker 1: fair to drop Mayo because I think, I mean, he
- 31:39Speaker 1: was put in a really hard position. But Mike Frabil
- 31:42Speaker 1: is an experienced coach who knows what he wants and
- 31:46Speaker 1: had a whole year to refine his program and what
- 31:49Speaker 1: he wants. And I think what you're seeing from that
- 31:52Speaker 1: rookie mini camp and even some of the meetings that
- 31:54Speaker 1: you know we've seen with the media is just that
- 31:58Speaker 1: he knows exactly what he wants to do now and
- 31:59Speaker 1: he's going for it. And I think that's you know,
- 32:02Speaker 1: maybe Jirog could have eventually gotten there. But I really
- 32:06Speaker 1: liked what Mike Rabel said in that little clip that
- 32:08Speaker 1: we put out with him and Kaden Wallace from the
- 32:10Speaker 1: team meeting, where he said, I don't care how it
- 32:14Speaker 1: was coached in the past, this is how I want
- 32:16Speaker 1: to do it. And you know, I try to take
- 32:18Speaker 1: that approach a little bit and talking as much about
- 32:21Speaker 1: this as we do, because it's like, I just don't
- 32:23Speaker 1: want everything. Every time I give Rabel a compliment, somebody's like, well,
- 32:26Speaker 1: Jerrob Murrio was never involved in practice, then was it?
- 32:28Speaker 1: You know, it's they're totally separate, And I think there
- 32:31Speaker 1: is a way to still praise this regime without it
- 32:33Speaker 1: seeming like you're trying to take side shots at what
- 32:36Speaker 1: they did last year. Submittedly they were in a hard position, and.
- 32:38Speaker 8: Again Mayo really only knew what it was like here.
- 32:41Speaker 8: Like Rabel, you're getting his experience, but it's not just
- 32:44Speaker 8: years of experience, it's experience elsewhere, you know, Like it
- 32:47Speaker 8: wasn't part of Belichick's coaching tree. He just played for Belichick.
- 32:50Speaker 8: He learned how to coach at a bunch of different places.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I mean I think that was reflected
- 32:55Speaker 1: in you know, just as simple as the warm ups
- 32:57Speaker 1: before practice, you know, how does it go?
- 32:59Speaker 16: What?
- 33:00Speaker 1: Like I thought, I've always thought the coaches here have
- 33:02Speaker 1: had really good energy. I mean I thought Bill's practices
- 33:04Speaker 1: were always really high tempo and coaches running to and
- 33:07Speaker 1: front drills, and it just didn't feel like a lot
- 33:09Speaker 1: of time, you know, being wasted. But I definitely took
- 33:12Speaker 1: notice of the energy just overall from all the coaches.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I'd also just highlight Scott Booker was the safety's coach.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Was one guy that really just stood out to me.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Booming voice, knows what he's looking for. Talking to a
- 33:24Speaker 1: lot of guys watching the practice from the back end
- 33:27Speaker 1: of the of the defense, he really seems like he
- 33:30Speaker 1: knows what he wants and how to get it out
- 33:32Speaker 1: of his guys. So I think you're starting to see
- 33:34Speaker 1: a little bit of you know, even Thomas Brown spending
- 33:36Speaker 1: a lot of time with Josh McDaniels on the field
- 33:38Speaker 1: during that practice as well, Like.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Someone was actually watching practice in.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Between talking with you and gigraphy me that. But those
- 33:46Speaker 1: are the things I think a lot of people were
- 33:47Speaker 1: so focused on, you know, reps and you know, here's
- 33:51Speaker 1: Kyle Williams running through a little gauntlet like okay, yeah,
- 33:53Speaker 1: like it looks nicey can.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Someone a clip out? And like making the defense look silly?
- 33:57Speaker 4: I was like, are we serious right now? Like even
- 34:00Speaker 4: we had a call at earlier that said Mason Graham
- 34:01Speaker 4: looked terrible. I proba, like, no, we didn't. They're standing
- 34:04Speaker 4: out there in shorts and they're warming up and they're
- 34:07Speaker 4: like going to a shell of a seven on seven
- 34:09Speaker 4: Like no one's done a thing. Like these kids are
- 34:12Speaker 4: just learning what they're doing, you know, and how they're
- 34:15Speaker 4: going to practice at the NFL level. They're not. There's
- 34:18Speaker 4: no performance at all, no, no, Like no one looked
- 34:21Speaker 4: good and no one looked bad. I'm going to say,
- 34:23Speaker 4: across the board, unless someone got hurt, that I don't
- 34:25Speaker 4: know about obviously injuries bad, you know, but.
- 34:29Speaker 1: No, it's hard. I mean we will get another.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Kyle Williams did not make anyone look silly.
- 34:33Speaker 1: No, I mean still look like let's say he caught
- 34:35Speaker 1: a couple of balls in the seven on seventh period.
- 34:37Speaker 1: That's nice, like you better than John Giles, right, So
- 34:40Speaker 1: to John Giles last year practice squatter who was out
- 34:43Speaker 1: there helping with the team.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I was watching that one.
- 34:46Speaker 1: And we'll also get another look at the full team
- 34:48Speaker 1: in OTAs a week from today next Tuesday. So I'm
- 34:51Speaker 1: not sure how that will affect PU, but that will
- 34:53Speaker 1: be a full group. Ra Abel said on Friday, you're
- 34:56Speaker 1: trying to get these rookies up to speed, which all
- 34:58Speaker 1: these veterans have been around last five weeks. Crash course
- 35:02Speaker 1: for the rookies, trying to get up to speed. What
- 35:04Speaker 1: it was the same drinking from the fire hose for.
- 35:06Speaker 8: How could you?
- 35:07Speaker 1: That wasn't a shot on how could you?
- 35:10Speaker 4: That was the most directly the show was.
- 35:11Speaker 1: A little bit. I will say this. We're going to
- 35:14Speaker 1: the phones Christian in l a Hey, Christian, what's going on?
- 35:18Speaker 6: You guys?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Are you today pretty good? How are you? How's things
- 35:21Speaker 1: out in LA these days.
- 35:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that things are kind of calm.
- 35:26Speaker 10: Down here in l A.
- 35:27Speaker 1: You know, getting the June gloom yet going crazy.
- 35:29Speaker 12: People are a little weird about that. But the wedd
- 35:31Speaker 12: is nice and that would count.
- 35:33Speaker 1: No, no June gloomiat that's usually this time of year
- 35:35Speaker 1: you start getting in June. All right, good call, good correction,
- 35:40Speaker 1: that makes sense, right.
- 35:43Speaker 12: But anyway, you guys, I know we have a a
- 35:47Speaker 12: pretty good season coming up. I am watching and take
- 35:49Speaker 12: the Kyle Williams and love what he represents on tape.
- 35:52Speaker 12: I think we have a good shot at eight, maybe
- 35:57Speaker 12: ten Wednesday, if we really pulled things together. My quest
- 36:00Speaker 12: for you guys to say, though, it's about one game
- 36:03Speaker 12: in particular, and that's a home game, and that game
- 36:06Speaker 12: is going to be against the Lost Biggest Raiders. So
- 36:10Speaker 12: I sat down you with but we wondered what kind
- 36:14Speaker 12: of reception is and should Tom Brady gets if he
- 36:20Speaker 12: comes to sit in an owner's box for the Raiders
- 36:24Speaker 12: versus New England games. And do you guys think that
- 36:26Speaker 12: our Gedule, I mean our Brecord at the time will
- 36:30Speaker 12: have anything to factor into if we're you know, people
- 36:32Speaker 12: are kind of okay with Brady being there or like
- 36:35Speaker 12: with doing bad and they just want everything, you know,
- 36:38Speaker 12: to burn. What do you guys think about Brady's visits
- 36:41Speaker 12: to the New England as the owner now of part
- 36:44Speaker 12: of the Raiders.
- 36:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Christian, I don't anticipate that happening. I think he's
- 36:50Speaker 4: got a job and he'll be unless that's podcast, unless
- 36:53Speaker 4: that happens to be a Fox game and he's here
- 36:56Speaker 4: as the color analyst for the game. I don't anticipate
- 36:59Speaker 4: Tom Brady traveling to all the Raiders games in the
- 37:02Speaker 4: owner's box. He's got a job. He has stated on
- 37:05Speaker 4: the record that he's not doesn't have any plans to
- 37:08Speaker 4: to stop doing that. Now maybe that'll change, and then
- 37:10Speaker 4: in the coming weeks, maybe we'll find out. Oh, Tom
- 37:13Speaker 4: Brady won't be back with Kevin Burkhart in the lead
- 37:17Speaker 4: chair for Fox's top broadcast team, but he says that
- 37:21Speaker 4: he's going to continue to do it.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Right, Why would you do that, Bobby, Like why don't
- 37:26Speaker 1: you just if you own a part of a team,
- 37:27Speaker 1: like wouldn't and you were loaded, Like wouldn't You're I'm
- 37:30Speaker 1: just gonna travel to my team's games. I'm gonna watch
- 37:32Speaker 1: it from a luxury box. I'm gonna take my private
- 37:34Speaker 1: plane back like that, to me, would be the ultimate
- 37:37Speaker 1: to own a sports franchise and be able to just
- 37:39Speaker 1: follow them and there's.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Something that you really share, something you really want.
- 37:43Speaker 1: What's kind of what we do right now? Only I
- 37:45Speaker 1: don't own the team right like you just kind of
- 37:46Speaker 1: follow the team, and.
- 37:47Speaker 8: I like to just travel and put my feet up
- 37:49Speaker 8: and chill.
- 37:50Speaker 1: I think you're sweet. Is ready for you, Miss Francisco?
- 37:52Speaker 1: You know, like the whiskey that.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Would be high on my priority list of money.
- 37:58Speaker 8: Money to bring into a Cup games, but.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Money to burn. I don't know if I so.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I mean it's I think I've evolved a little bit
- 38:08Speaker 1: in that I can see why someone would not want
- 38:11Speaker 1: to own a team with everything that goes into Let
- 38:13Speaker 1: me look across the league at what different ownership groups
- 38:16Speaker 1: have gone through, whether it's controversies, whether it's you know,
- 38:19Speaker 1: selling the team, people want to move the team. I mean,
- 38:21Speaker 1: there do seem like a lot of headaches. And you've got,
- 38:24Speaker 1: especially here, you've got sports media up your butt like
- 38:27Speaker 1: they're high expectations. A fan base that knows the team
- 38:31Speaker 1: and and and has had success and wants that success back.
- 38:34Speaker 1: So I get what you're saying, though it is pressure fold.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I just think it. How about a minor league hockey team.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I'm not even like with the pressure. I just feel like,
- 38:42Speaker 4: if I if I'm a huge sports fan, I don't
- 38:44Speaker 4: need to own the team. I'll just be a huge
- 38:46Speaker 4: fan of the team and go when I want to go.
- 38:48Speaker 4: And you know, I.
- 38:49Speaker 8: Don't think I would spend my money to buy into
- 38:53Speaker 8: a team right now. If I was born and if
- 38:56Speaker 8: I was like Amara or something different, story like that
- 38:58Speaker 8: would probably be awesome. But I don't think I would
- 39:01Speaker 8: use my own income to get into an owner. I
- 39:03Speaker 8: think the evaluations are just like way too high of
- 39:06Speaker 8: these teams.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Now, I got a question. Maybe you know this, Paul.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I don't want to put you on the spot with
- 39:10Speaker 1: this one. So I mentioned I hate when people mention
- 39:12Speaker 1: what books they're reading. But I am reading the book, right,
- 39:15Speaker 1: don't I don't read. But do you know what the
- 39:17Speaker 1: controversy was with the Giants coaches back in the eighties.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I guess there was like a nephew that wanted the
- 39:23Speaker 1: ownership and well like Tim Maron, and there was like
- 39:26Speaker 1: Wellington mar I guess during this time there was a
- 39:28Speaker 1: lot of different I don't know the tension within the
- 39:30Speaker 1: ownership group of the Giants part of why, you know
- 39:33Speaker 1: Bill Parcells had some of the complications there that he had.
- 39:35Speaker 1: But I just you know, it's interesting, we come here,
- 39:38Speaker 1: everything seems so stable, but you realize that sometimes when
- 39:41Speaker 1: these families do own the team, that family squabbles cap
- 39:44Speaker 1: and all, like.
- 39:45Speaker 8: The Lakers, like Jeanie Bust and her brothers, like and
- 39:50Speaker 8: I wonder what that relationships like now, you know.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Sounds like it's good succession TV show, like a actually
- 39:55Speaker 1: a family that owns a team.
- 39:56Speaker 8: They made a I think it's a Netflix show and
- 40:01Speaker 8: it's Kate Kate Hudson.
- 40:03Speaker 4: I think, did you see it? It's terrific. It's really funny.
- 40:06Speaker 8: And it's I think Kate Hudson and Brenda Song the
- 40:09Speaker 8: songs like her chief of staff. But she's like Genie
- 40:12Speaker 8: Buss kind of the l a basketball team.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Not much of a stretch to say. She's kind of
- 40:18Speaker 4: loosely based on Genie Bust, and I think Jeanie Bust
- 40:21Speaker 4: and producer she I think she is.
- 40:23Speaker 8: Her brother is the president of the team, but he
- 40:26Speaker 8: does a bunch of drugs and has a bender one
- 40:28Speaker 8: night and gets to an accident and becomes up in
- 40:30Speaker 8: the public eye, and he kind of appoints his sister
- 40:33Speaker 8: the next one. Another brother is the GM. Another brother
- 40:36Speaker 8: is like the CFO.
- 40:39Speaker 4: I forget the name of the shower. It's an easy,
- 40:43Speaker 4: easy watch too.
- 40:44Speaker 8: There it was cute.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Beth and I watched it like a weekend.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Well, let's jump up down to Will Campbell's home state
- 40:52Speaker 1: down in Louisiana. He can running point, running point, running point, Kennedy. Then, yes,
- 41:02Speaker 1: you're on.
- 41:05Speaker 4: All right.
- 41:06Speaker 11: Hey, I'm calling from Louisiana and I just a second, okay,
- 41:12Speaker 11: I was I wanted to ask you about this because
- 41:16Speaker 11: I hey, man, how's everything?
- 41:22Speaker 6: Listen?
- 41:22Speaker 11: I want I am here.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Hell, Ken, you're on a radio show and he's having
- 41:29Speaker 4: like three conversations and we're not really a part of men.
- 41:33Speaker 11: Yeah, I tell you what, I've got some kind of
- 41:35Speaker 11: bad connection here.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I'll call back, all right, Ken, Sorry to hear that.
- 41:40Speaker 1: It's a shame down Louisiana.
- 41:43Speaker 17: He had like three conversations right on the street.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Hey, yeah, it goes good to see you. I can't
- 41:49Speaker 4: see love it.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I don't know that life of just like hanging on
- 41:52Speaker 1: the radio waiting to get on the show and a
- 41:54Speaker 1: radio station only one appearing as.
- 41:56Speaker 4: A humble bragg.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I don't think you ever a little bit of a flex.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever called college.
- 42:04Speaker 8: I think I called into uh Dalen Hawley in college?
- 42:08Speaker 4: Why because they did you have to manage playing them
- 42:12Speaker 4: to No, it was.
- 42:13Speaker 8: A positive call. Actually, Holly told me that he would
- 42:16Speaker 8: get an I would get an A plus in his school,
- 42:18Speaker 8: the Holly School of Journalism. But remember we don't have
- 42:22Speaker 8: to get too deep into it. But Boogie Gross John
- 42:25Speaker 8: Bouchie Gross was like caught up in a scandal with
- 42:29Speaker 8: co worker, and I think the Boston the Boston Globe
- 42:32Speaker 8: published like texts, but they didn't have her text. They
- 42:36Speaker 8: only had his, and it was like small excerpts. So
- 42:39Speaker 8: I called in to say, like, hey, I'm just in
- 42:40Speaker 8: journalism school, but I think it's really responsible, irresponsible that
- 42:44Speaker 8: they published all this and they didn't have the full
- 42:46Speaker 8: context of the conversation. Because the way I talk with
- 42:50Speaker 8: some of my best friends, like if you just took
- 42:52Speaker 8: out bits and pieces of it, you'd think I was
- 42:54Speaker 8: a psychopath, you know. So I kind of called in
- 42:57Speaker 8: to make that point.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Again. Actually I gotta I gotta share my joke with
- 43:02Speaker 1: Alex that I pulled with Paul this weekend. I was
- 43:04Speaker 1: watching the Celtics on Saturday and Paul was texting me
- 43:07Speaker 1: about something and I thought of a joke. I thought
- 43:11Speaker 1: him a funny. I thought him a funny. So I
- 43:13Speaker 1: texted pon I'm like, you know, I think I'm actually
- 43:15Speaker 1: going to watch this is like they're up by thirty,
- 43:16Speaker 1: it's like the third quarter. You know, I think I'm
- 43:18Speaker 1: actually going to watch the game. And oh man, I
- 43:23Speaker 1: was no one cracked up more than me. I was like,
- 43:25Speaker 1: I'm getting to Paul. He's gonna leave so hard because.
- 43:27Speaker 4: I thought, like I immediately looked at Bat and I'm
- 43:29Speaker 4: like telling her the whole story, like he doesn't really
- 43:31Speaker 4: like follow basketball, doesn't really care. And I was just like,
- 43:35Speaker 4: you know, you do know that the game. The game's
- 43:38Speaker 4: almost over. They're up thirty with like three minutes left
- 43:40Speaker 4: the third courter.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I had to throw a weight what first, just to
- 43:42Speaker 1: get jokeing, and I'm like, I'm just messing with you.
- 43:45Speaker 4: I will, I will admit when you did the weight
- 43:46Speaker 4: what I knew that you do. But but he got
- 43:49Speaker 4: he totally got me. And this whole time I'm going
- 43:52Speaker 4: back and with Alex about random stuff. I'm like, yeah,
- 43:54Speaker 4: they're gonna do it again. They gotta just playing an
- 43:58Speaker 4: offense and stop Howking. But the Knicks were bad on Saturday.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Though they were not so much less not last night.
- 44:04Speaker 4: That second half of the Knicks. I have to say,
- 44:06Speaker 4: I've been very obnoxiously Boston centric in my watching of
- 44:12Speaker 4: this series, and I still don't really think there's much
- 44:15Speaker 4: comparison between the two teams. But the second half last
- 44:18Speaker 4: night was the first time the Knicks for any length
- 44:21Speaker 4: of time, were the better team. They played unbelievably well
- 44:25Speaker 4: in the second half, and the Celtics just couldn't stop them.
- 44:28Speaker 4: They couldn't get a single stop.
- 44:30Speaker 1: I have a taken in development, and you guys know
- 44:33Speaker 1: I'm not it's not a big Celtics guy, so feel
- 44:35Speaker 1: free to shoot this down. But I've watched enough of
- 44:37Speaker 1: this series now to feel like Boston fans are maybe
- 44:40Speaker 1: a little envious of the kind of player that Brunson
- 44:43Speaker 1: is and the way he gets better as the game
- 44:45Speaker 1: gets harder. And to me, I don't think that's a
- 44:48Speaker 1: terrible take. Hearing you guys talk, it's kind of a
- 44:51Speaker 1: weird reflection on the things they don't like about Tatum
- 44:54Speaker 1: and maybe Brown. I don't know to speak totally to
- 44:56Speaker 1: that point, but.
- 44:57Speaker 4: I don't think it's a terrible take. Would say that
- 45:00Speaker 4: most people that watch, you know, a lot of the games,
- 45:03Speaker 4: they'll say, give me Tatum, give me Brown. They're more
- 45:06Speaker 4: talented players. But I think Boston in particular has a
- 45:10Speaker 4: soft spot for that kind of scrappy, overachieving underdog who
- 45:16Speaker 4: tends to be at his best when it matters most. Yeah,
- 45:19Speaker 4: he's and I think that's a little bit of brunts.
- 45:20Speaker 8: In the Knicks fans I've talked to. I didn't watch
- 45:23Speaker 8: enough Knicks games this year, even in the playoffs, until
- 45:26Speaker 8: this series, but I get the sense from them that
- 45:29Speaker 8: they're like, Wow, this brunts In series is kind of
- 45:31Speaker 8: not coming out of nowhere, but he's really taking a.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Step up, even for a guy who doesn't watch much basketball.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Just when I flip the games on, it's just obvious
- 45:38Speaker 1: that that guy is playing at an elite level right now.
- 45:41Speaker 8: I Mean, there were so many times yesterday where he's
- 45:43Speaker 8: the smallest guy on the floor and he's still getting
- 45:45Speaker 8: all the rebounds, you know, like it was a fury.
- 45:47Speaker 1: He's been in the Laite. The guy looks like he's
- 45:49Speaker 1: like in his mid thirties. Two, Like he just looks
- 45:50Speaker 1: old to spin around for a little while.
- 45:52Speaker 4: Yeah, he started in Dallas. I'm spending the Knicks now
- 45:55Speaker 4: for what three years? Two? Three years?
- 45:58Speaker 8: Tons about right, Brunts and Burner.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Such an idiot and then they're all like villing over
- 46:02Speaker 4: guys too.
- 46:03Speaker 1: So I heard that, not an idiot, it's not you,
- 46:06Speaker 1: which I do like commercial.
- 46:07Speaker 8: Then the Philly Philly whenever they can new house.
- 46:13Speaker 1: All right, Ken's back in Louisiana with a better connection. Hey, Ken,
- 46:16Speaker 1: what's going on?
- 46:19Speaker 4: Larious? Maybe I think maybe we'll table that to Thursday.
- 46:23Speaker 1: It stay dry well, full lines are open. Give us
- 46:26Speaker 1: a call. We'll get to the emails after nobody eats lunch.
- 46:29Speaker 1: We will take a break here sometimes at about the
- 46:31Speaker 1: top of the hour. But we are entering the official
- 46:34Speaker 1: part of the off season where I feel like we
- 46:36Speaker 1: need to bust out that game we were going to
- 46:38Speaker 1: do with all of that, put their their pictures in,
- 46:42Speaker 1: it's ready to go. I'm gonna put a final call
- 46:44Speaker 1: out right now. So if you're a consistent caller and
- 46:45Speaker 1: we know your name, email Matt Morrell or I guess
- 46:50Speaker 1: the web web red radio, web radio at Patriots podcast
- 46:54Speaker 1: podcasts at patriots dot com and just send them a picture.
- 46:58Speaker 1: We're gonna do who's that that caller, and we'll figure
- 47:01Speaker 1: out a fun way to do it sometime over the
- 47:02Speaker 1: next couple of months.
- 47:03Speaker 8: Here's we maybe in a video form or we'll get
- 47:06Speaker 8: them up on the screen or something. But yeah, we
- 47:07Speaker 8: got a couple of great submissions, but there was a
- 47:10Speaker 8: couple of regulars. I was a little disappointed to not
- 47:12Speaker 8: see anything yet.
- 47:13Speaker 1: All right, we'll get on it in Claire case Eldred participate.
- 47:15Speaker 1: We all know what unfortunately, but should be like the
- 47:18Speaker 1: only woman that's true. Well, we have a couple. There's
- 47:21Speaker 1: a couple of callers. You have, like an old collar
- 47:24Speaker 1: from the Chicago area, Paul that was a big fan
- 47:27Speaker 1: of of here a woman there's a big fan.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Of Cat Cat in Chicago.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Yeah, trap, I got it.
- 47:36Speaker 4: And she was a like good fan who would offer
- 47:40Speaker 4: the critique when it needed to be too. I wonder
- 47:43Speaker 4: where Cat is. She was like redoing a house in Chicago,
- 47:48Speaker 4: and then we haven't heard from her for a long time.
- 47:49Speaker 1: It's funny how that works for.
- 47:52Speaker 8: Renovations.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Man, almost like social media, where there's all of a
- 47:56Speaker 1: sudden you realize you're like, I haven't seen that person
- 47:58Speaker 1: and forever on social media for whatever, you know, reading
- 48:02Speaker 1: like somebody just drops off the face of.
- 48:04Speaker 4: The earth, and then you start thinking, oh, I hope
- 48:06Speaker 4: you know everything is okay. Yeah, you know, it's not
- 48:09Speaker 4: like you know them, know them.
- 48:10Speaker 1: But then suddenly someone random calls in that hasn't called
- 48:12Speaker 1: in for like a year or something, and you guys
- 48:16Speaker 1: instantly remember who they were.
- 48:18Speaker 8: And I wis you could send wellness checks like I
- 48:20Speaker 8: here's a quick everything going good?
- 48:22Speaker 1: Well the newsletter?
- 48:24Speaker 4: We'll check and watch some of those shows. What's uh?
- 48:27Speaker 4: What's the one Alison Victoria That one on HG TV.
- 48:32Speaker 4: She does one of those rehab shows. Yeah, do you
- 48:35Speaker 4: watch watch?
- 48:37Speaker 8: I think TV was my backup plan if sports media
- 48:40Speaker 8: didn't want to go.
- 48:42Speaker 4: That's funny. I think she I think she was in
- 48:45Speaker 4: Chicago and that's what this The cat in Chicago's like
- 48:48Speaker 4: rehab project. That's what it reminded me of all the
- 48:50Speaker 4: time listening to her talk about it.
- 48:52Speaker 1: But house flipping.
- 48:54Speaker 4: This wasn't flipping this. I think they bought something like
- 48:57Speaker 4: downtown that they were completely redoing. If I'm not mistaken,
- 49:02Speaker 4: heard her husband the.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Real estate game. It's tough. It's tough out there.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Yeah, are you a mogul?
- 49:07Speaker 1: No, I'm definitely not. But are you dreaming of next
- 49:11Speaker 1: to the off season?
- 49:12Speaker 11: Paul?
- 49:12Speaker 4: Is it easy to drink?
- 49:14Speaker 1: Not yet? No, Revamp your sleep routine before kickoff with

- 49:49Speaker 1: A bunch of emails we got all right, all right,
- 49:52Speaker 1: I'm going right to the Jaws one first, so or
- 49:56Speaker 1: else we start, Oh Tyler from Ludlow first, he said,
- 50:00Speaker 1: Fallix needs a repair recommendation. Roy's Auto Services in Ludlow
- 50:03Speaker 1: has been good to him.
- 50:04Speaker 16: So there you go.
- 50:05Speaker 1: We're giving a If you like Joss trivia, you should
- 50:07Speaker 1: check out the Jaws episode of the Unspooled podcast. You'll
- 50:10Speaker 1: learn things like the theme music was based on the
- 50:12Speaker 1: dinosaur fight scene from Fantasia, and that Quinn's traits are
- 50:15Speaker 1: based on a local Martha Martha's vineyard fisherman who was
- 50:19Speaker 1: allegedly the only person on the island to be arrested
- 50:21Speaker 1: for a drunk driving a team of oxen. They had
- 50:24Speaker 1: a small part in the movie, and the crew would
- 50:25Speaker 1: listen to his stories and use them to craft Quinn's line.
- 50:28Speaker 1: So Quinn is real. I can confirm that, Paul, you
- 50:30Speaker 1: know who that guy was. He's the one that's driving.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I think he played the Ben Gardner. He's like that,
- 50:35Speaker 1: said mothers. I can't remember.
- 50:37Speaker 4: It was the guy who comes outside with the pipe.
- 50:39Speaker 4: Oh wait, maybe the hobbermaster.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Oh I thought it was the guy in the boat. Wait,
- 50:43Speaker 1: we got it. We're gonna have to Tyler. Is it
- 50:44Speaker 1: is it the guy? Is it Ben Gardner?
- 50:47Speaker 4: Ben Gardners, that's Ben, and.
- 50:49Speaker 1: He's the one who guys like that whole when they're
- 50:50Speaker 1: all drying, of course, and he's going together with that's Markllo.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Sorry Alex, but well, Jows is coming back into theaters
- 51:01Speaker 1: this summer, and I think we need to do a
- 51:03Speaker 1: team outing of that. We just talked way too much
- 51:05Speaker 1: about it. It's gonna be playing right there at Patriot Place.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Do a little team to this particular summer. But I
- 51:12Speaker 4: would definitely be interested.
- 51:13Speaker 1: An eleven o'clock show you about nine am, we about
- 51:16Speaker 1: eleven to one the.
- 51:17Speaker 8: Team thing, or we do the drive in theater that's
- 51:20Speaker 8: on the cape and make it really an authentic experience
- 51:23Speaker 8: and then we expense the trip.
- 51:26Speaker 1: All right, Alex, Alex, you got your first email. Alex
- 51:29Speaker 1: is on the on the booth in the covering new
- 51:32Speaker 1: Alex Boy Alex to be confused girl, Alex. But Rick
- 51:37Speaker 1: is writing and saying, can you update the opening credits
- 51:39Speaker 1: to the show. The robotic voice in random Chatter is screaming,
- 51:42Speaker 1: screaming for an upgrade. So while Mamarrell's out today, Alex,
- 51:44Speaker 1: if you want to update the update the whole show?
- 51:47Speaker 4: Yeah, this is the times, you know, flex your muscles.
- 51:53Speaker 1: This is probably a question for father Fred. Hey, guys,
- 51:55Speaker 1: I know I probably have to ask for Father Fred.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Is the statue thing for Brady still happening or is
- 51:59Speaker 1: that in eighty six. I'd like to attend the ceremony
- 52:02Speaker 1: if it is. Thanks to my Week one prediction Week
- 52:05Speaker 1: one at Jets. That's Sean macfree one at Jets.
- 52:10Speaker 8: I feel like it's a timing thing, a schedule.
- 52:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that. I think that is the issue currently,
- 52:17Speaker 4: and it judgs back to what we talked about about
- 52:19Speaker 4: fifteen minutes ago. He has a job and he's kind
- 52:23Speaker 4: of busy on NFL Sundays. So I don't know, I
- 52:26Speaker 4: don't know what the status of the statue is now.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Definitely status of the statue, it's not easy to.
- 52:32Speaker 1: It's think commission I don't know. I just want to
- 52:36Speaker 1: you commissioned a statute, what else do you do?
- 52:38Speaker 8: Do you think it's done and it's just like a
- 52:40Speaker 8: storage somewhere.
- 52:41Speaker 4: You think it looks like Dwayne Wade or Ronaldo Rinaldo's statue?
- 52:46Speaker 8: Is I'm certain?
- 52:47Speaker 1: Well, I mean, look, I don't know what it looks like,
- 52:49Speaker 1: but I would just say, like, I hope that it
- 52:51Speaker 1: looks like Brady like, but football playing Brady like. I
- 52:54Speaker 1: would say, if you had to pick between helmet and
- 52:56Speaker 1: helmet off. I think i'd lean towards helmet on like
- 52:58Speaker 1: I would to play.
- 53:00Speaker 4: I don't know anything about it.
- 53:02Speaker 1: And he's just you know, standing there like I wouldn't
- 53:04Speaker 1: want that Abe Lincoln or something not for me. I'm
- 53:09Speaker 1: not sure I get this one. Maybe you guys can
- 53:11Speaker 1: get it from Christopher and Clemson South Carolina Afternoon PF
- 53:16Speaker 1: as we begin to gear up for the upcoming season. Stuff.
- 53:18Speaker 1: They used to call it.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Yours PFW in progress. Now it's PU.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Everyone's enthusiasm is on the rise for their currently undefeated team.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Which performance indicators are you most looking forward to seeing?
- 53:30Speaker 1: When in the past I e OTA's training camp first
- 53:33Speaker 1: quarter of the season, were you able to confirm that
- 53:35Speaker 1: your indicator showed about the team? So I think I
- 53:40Speaker 1: get what he's getting at, which I do think is
- 53:42Speaker 1: an interesting question because so hard to discern in training camp.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I've now watched I don't know, six training camps with you,
- 53:52Speaker 1: and I think you can kind of tell a little bit,
- 53:54Speaker 1: you know, like you don't want to believe it sometimes.
- 53:56Speaker 1: But last year was was you could tell after Philly
- 53:59Speaker 1: they were going to struggle movie.
- 54:00Speaker 4: I think it's hard to watch practices and say they're
- 54:04Speaker 4: going to do this well and they're going to struggle
- 54:06Speaker 4: at this last year. In the year before too, were
- 54:12Speaker 4: definitely outliars to me. They were so bad offensively. They
- 54:17Speaker 4: struggled so much offensively in my view for practice. Usually
- 54:21Speaker 4: in practice you find a way to complete passes and
- 54:24Speaker 4: move that it's not always going full tilt, so the
- 54:28Speaker 4: defensive backs aren't breaking on receivers to knock passes away.
- 54:31Speaker 4: You know, there's not a lot of contact. So generally
- 54:35Speaker 4: the completion percentages are very high. The last two seasons
- 54:39Speaker 4: it hasn't been very high. Like you could see they
- 54:41Speaker 4: were going to struggle offensively. But I don't know if
- 54:43Speaker 4: you can watch that and say, well, this team's just
- 54:46Speaker 4: not very talented. They're going against each other. You're right.
- 54:50Speaker 4: When they went to the joint practice against Philadelphia and
- 54:52Speaker 4: got pushed around like a little boy, it was hard
- 54:56Speaker 4: not to take that and say this could be a
- 54:59Speaker 4: long It's.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Hard too, because I think I wouldn't have thought the
- 55:03Speaker 1: defense would be that bad last year, and but injuries
- 55:06Speaker 1: really hit, and you know that kind of started to
- 55:08Speaker 1: unravel things. You know, Dugger was banged up all year,
- 55:11Speaker 1: Bentley was out, Peppers had his issues. I mean, we
- 55:14Speaker 1: go right down, you know, Christian Barmore, of course at
- 55:17Speaker 1: that point shoot on. You know, it's ah so. But
- 55:21Speaker 1: I think also of like a guy like Jalen Polk
- 55:23Speaker 1: that we watched have a pretty consistent camp and then
- 55:27Speaker 1: he can go the other way to a few games
- 55:29Speaker 1: and you know, I think that touchdown that wasn't was
- 55:32Speaker 1: really weird.
- 55:33Speaker 4: But that's a great example of why I don't think
- 55:36Speaker 4: you can necessarily do it that way the way the
- 55:39Speaker 4: emailer is looking for it, because I would say rookie
- 55:43Speaker 4: year Taekwon Dowton looked like he could play, and certainly
- 55:47Speaker 4: rookie year Jalen Polk last year looked like he was
- 55:49Speaker 4: going to be a big part of the offense. And
- 55:52Speaker 4: then all of a sudden it happens for real and
- 55:54Speaker 4: it doesn't look the same way. Because practice is practice,
- 55:58Speaker 4: and you can you can glean some stuff. What I
- 56:01Speaker 4: always take away from it is I look and I watch,
- 56:03Speaker 4: and I say, Okay, this Malcolm Butler kid who's a
- 56:07Speaker 4: rookie who I don't have any idea who he is.
- 56:10Speaker 4: They look like they kind of like him because he's
- 56:13Speaker 4: in a lot of groups with like Devin mccordy and
- 56:15Speaker 4: Stefan Gilbert. You know these other guys that you know
- 56:17Speaker 4: are gonna play. Why do they keep putting him out there?
- 56:20Speaker 4: They must like this kid, and you can extrapolate that
- 56:24Speaker 4: kind of stuff, but I'm not gonna tell you I
- 56:26Speaker 4: knew at the end of that year he's gonna make
- 56:28Speaker 4: the play of the NFL.
- 56:30Speaker 1: That was the same for me witnessing them when you
- 56:33Speaker 1: that year of just thing pick.
- 56:37Speaker 4: Out there all the time, he's gonna play. You know
- 56:40Speaker 4: he's gonna play. At the same time last year when
- 56:43Speaker 4: it's a revolving Dora at tackle was telling you they
- 56:46Speaker 4: don't have any idea who's gonna play tackle. You could
- 56:49Speaker 4: see it.
- 56:50Speaker 1: It's also interesting I thought at the receiver position last
- 56:53Speaker 1: year and again this year that they had a lot
- 56:55Speaker 1: of bodies, not a lot of delineation for who's the
- 56:59Speaker 1: best every but he is kind of specific roles. But
- 57:02Speaker 1: it was interesting last year watching Kashan Boudi emerge, not
- 57:06Speaker 1: somebody that really you know, started the parade.
- 57:08Speaker 4: For and again not in training camp. It was once
- 57:12Speaker 4: the game started, it was like him and pull changed roles.
- 57:15Speaker 1: I think that's the point too. Paul is that once
- 57:18Speaker 1: the season starts, things can change quickly quick whether it's injuries,
- 57:22Speaker 1: whether I mean I made the point with Polk the
- 57:25Speaker 1: game that he didn't get his back foot in thought
- 57:27Speaker 1: he had the game winning touchdown, and really, for me,
- 57:29Speaker 1: it looked like from that point was when he just
- 57:31Speaker 1: started to lose his confidence and needed to hit the
- 57:34Speaker 1: reset button. Never really was able to. Then got hurt
- 57:36Speaker 1: at the end of the year.
- 57:37Speaker 3: But quickly.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I've said it before that last year showed me last
- 57:41Speaker 1: two years that every loss makes it worse. Every loss,
- 57:44Speaker 1: things get worse, People get a little bit more pissed,
- 57:46Speaker 1: people get a little bit more clipped, and you know,
- 57:49Speaker 1: it's just it's not fun to be around a team
- 57:52Speaker 1: that continues to drop games, especially when you feel like
- 57:55Speaker 1: they've kind of lost lost the plot. I guess it
- 57:57Speaker 1: was like you're not really gunning for the playoffs anymore.
- 58:00Speaker 1: War you're just kind of trying to run the string
- 58:02Speaker 1: out here at the end of the season. But Polk's
- 58:06Speaker 1: such a great example of that where I just head scratcher,
- 58:09Speaker 1: thought he'd be productive, thought he would at least contributing.
- 58:11Speaker 4: And there's a lot of guys, but you know, when
- 58:15Speaker 4: you have your fifty three man roster when the season
- 58:17Speaker 4: opens and you look and you're like, oh, that guy
- 58:19Speaker 4: was here and he was starting. And then all of
- 58:21Speaker 4: a sudden, it's like ten twelve weeks later and you're like, wow,
- 58:23Speaker 4: I don't even remember him being on the team, you know.
- 58:26Speaker 4: And there are different examples of different caliber players. I
- 58:30Speaker 4: remember the year that they had the you know, all
- 58:33Speaker 4: the tight ends, Scott Channing, Remember Scott Chandler. Scott Chandler.
- 58:36Speaker 4: At the beginning of the year, you're like, this guy,
- 58:38Speaker 4: he's gonna he's gonna be a big part of this team.
- 58:40Speaker 4: And he catches a touchdown, I want to say, on
- 58:42Speaker 4: opening night against Pittsburgh. And then by the time that
- 58:47Speaker 4: season's oh, you don't even remember Scott Chandler was part
- 58:49Speaker 4: of the team, yeah, let alone being part of the offense.
- 58:52Speaker 1: I called him Scott Chandler. Of course, that was like
- 58:56Speaker 1: the never ending search to find the calm ement to Gronk,
- 59:00Speaker 1: Like every year there was a new but they had
- 59:02Speaker 1: fourths tight ends and they're gonna do this, you know, revolutionary,
- 59:07Speaker 1: and by the time you get like five six weeks in,
- 59:09Speaker 1: it's like, no, Okay, that didn't work.
- 59:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and you just have to regroup, you know.
- 59:14Speaker 1: All right, Well we're going to take a little break here.

- 1:00:51Speaker 19: miss you, or send a box full of instant noodles
- 1:00:54Speaker 19: that says your father and I would like you to
- 1:00:57Speaker 19: stop asking us for money. Either way, one rate fits all.
- 1:01:03Speaker 19: FedEx one rate, two day shipping, one flat rate starting
- 1:01:06Speaker 19: at fourteen fifty Is it FedEx dot com splash one
- 1:01:09Speaker 19: rate for details.
- 1:01:10Speaker 20: Exclusions apply, Buddy, Welcome to the PU Extra Relieve read
- 1:01:15Speaker 20: your leftover emails I didn't get read on the show. Guys,
- 1:01:18Speaker 20: as always, send your emails to podcasts at Patriots dot
- 1:01:21Speaker 20: com because if the guys don't read them, we will.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Chris Alex get into it's been a while. Yeah, a lot,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: a lot's happened.
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: But thank god that's over.
- 1:01:30Speaker 15: First.
- 1:01:30Speaker 20: Yeah, yeah, I don't know if you've heard, but we
- 1:01:33Speaker 20: also had a Hall of Fame announcement. As I get
- 1:01:34Speaker 20: into this email from Sean, Hello, gents and lady up
- 1:01:39Speaker 20: to say I'm upset with the Hall of the Hall
- 1:01:41Speaker 20: decision is an understatement.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:01:43Speaker 20: I guess I should have known when the bandwagon one
- 1:01:46Speaker 20: that came and came on in twenty fifteen, would vote
- 1:01:49Speaker 20: for the guy that has a stupid podcast to be
- 1:01:51Speaker 20: in the Hall of Fame over a guy that helps
- 1:01:52Speaker 20: start a dynasty.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Yes, Edelman deserves to be in, but he needs to wait.
- 1:01:56Speaker 20: Shame on the Hall of Fame fake committee for putting
- 1:01:59Speaker 20: him on the ballot. You can save those lunches for
- 1:02:01Speaker 20: the next four years, because this is how it's going
- 1:02:03Speaker 20: to go twenty twenty six. Gronk twenty twenty seven, mccordy
- 1:02:07Speaker 20: twenty twenty eight, Slater twenty twenty nine, Andrews. Why put
- 1:02:11Speaker 20: guys like Adam Adam Vinteri, Megan's Russ, Francis Welker who
- 1:02:15Speaker 20: should have been in before Edelman? Or that about Monty Beisel. Sorry,
- 1:02:19Speaker 20: I can't pronounce that right. It's a waste of time
- 1:02:22Speaker 20: time to change the process. You don't listen to the
- 1:02:24Speaker 20: fans about a uniform chain. So that's so, that's so
- 1:02:26Speaker 20: desperately needed. Don't know how that gets proud. Yeah, you
- 1:02:30Speaker 20: listen to fans for a very oh so, yeah, you
- 1:02:32Speaker 20: listen to fans for a very important decision.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Get the process fixed.
- 1:02:35Speaker 20: Now, as a fan of those nineties teams, it would
- 1:02:37Speaker 20: have been special to of Adam and parcels going together.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: He spelled it seam.
- 1:02:41Speaker 20: But Sean mack Freeland, Pennsylvania, lot's take in there.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I get what he's saying. By the way, I.
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: Understand the frustration and I agree with it. But at
- 1:02:50Speaker 9: the end of the day, like the younger generations are
- 1:02:53Speaker 9: more online, like I don't know, I think who elections
- 1:02:57Speaker 9: are important?
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: You guys, you gotta get hold with these elections.
- 1:03:00Speaker 9: Think make a bought, make it bought, and just ram
- 1:03:04Speaker 9: your candidate.
- 1:03:05Speaker 21: I just think the argument too is Edelman state of
- 1:03:07Speaker 21: the team. There's that, and I like, again my generation,
- 1:03:12Speaker 21: everything I knew was winning growing up, and I attributed
- 1:03:16Speaker 21: that with Edelman, Brady kral.
- 1:03:19Speaker 20: Well, Minitarry kicked off like our generation and that being said,
- 1:03:23Speaker 20: like got to vote online like the older people prior't
- 1:03:26Speaker 20: voting online. But I think this lineup he has might
- 1:03:30Speaker 20: be pretty I mean, he's Gronk.
- 1:03:31Speaker 9: Most of that email is the fact that McCarty's already
- 1:03:35Speaker 9: going to be ready to rock.
- 1:03:36Speaker 20: But he also left he left out his career, he
- 1:03:38Speaker 20: left out High Tower, like like that being said, like Adam,
- 1:03:42Speaker 20: but Hary is gonna get pushed down.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: I think, I know, I may.
- 1:03:45Speaker 21: I think Gronk is that next year, but then Pastor,
- 1:03:48Speaker 21: I think he's gonna win.
- 1:03:50Speaker 15: Over a mccordy in that first year. I just think.
- 1:03:56Speaker 9: That's going to bring up another question is who gets
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: in first High Tower mccordy. Yeah, I've had so many
- 1:04:02Speaker 9: so like there are plays that High Tower made in
- 1:04:05Speaker 9: multiple Super Bowls that were not winning those games without
- 1:04:08Speaker 9: clutch playing.
- 1:04:08Speaker 21: Indeed, I also think though the Devons, I mean they
- 1:04:12Speaker 21: both had long jeviny, but I think Devin's like overall leadership,
- 1:04:16Speaker 21: Like they're both leaders, but I think overall, like Devin
- 1:04:19Speaker 21: was more like that focus like on the defense.
- 1:04:22Speaker 20: You know, so we got we got that Edelman this year,
- 1:04:24Speaker 20: and I think you can pencil in Gronk.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: I think for the year after then then I'll get
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: a little interested.
- 1:04:29Speaker 15: Yeah, I think Vin Terry will be Tony twas.
- 1:04:32Speaker 20: He definitely deserves to be in. But all right, next one,
- 1:04:35Speaker 20: hilarious lines from last show. This will be interesting because
- 1:04:37Speaker 20: Alex wasn't on the show. We were on the show,
- 1:04:39Speaker 20: So all right, dear Patriots Unfiltered, Hey guys, last show,
- 1:04:43Speaker 20: you kind of glossed over two lines that made me
- 1:04:44Speaker 20: laugh out loud. The first one, the first one of
- 1:04:47Speaker 20: the darkest. That was one of the darkest, funniest things
- 1:04:50Speaker 20: I've ever heard. Right at my alley when Paul said
- 1:04:52Speaker 20: that Tim Tebow failed, I almost split up my walk.
- 1:04:55Speaker 20: Later in the show, Deuce was saying, the Jets are
- 1:04:58Speaker 20: in year fifty one of a rebuilt Thank I needed that.
- 1:05:00Speaker 8: You got That's Thursday show I was on.
- 1:05:03Speaker 9: Okay, it was hilarious In hindsight, Duce, it's so great
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: for those little like quick line you just gloss over.
- 1:05:10Speaker 15: But they really have been in a rebuild album.
- 1:05:13Speaker 20: Well, just thought, I can't get over that the Rogers
- 1:05:16Speaker 20: situation failed so poorly. It was either going to be
- 1:05:19Speaker 20: Super Bowl or I didn't think it would be as
- 1:05:22Speaker 20: bad as it was. No ye, like it'll be forever
- 1:05:24Speaker 20: etched in NFL history of him running out anniversary September eleven,
- 1:05:28Speaker 20: and that was a flag And now he's still signed.
- 1:05:30Speaker 15: Trying to figure out what he's doing.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: I think up on the Steelers.
- 1:05:33Speaker 21: I don't know what the whole is.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Yeah, all right.
- 1:05:36Speaker 20: Clip with the Commander's draft room. Hey, everyone, just curious
- 1:05:39Speaker 20: event you saw the video of the Commander's draft room
- 1:05:41Speaker 20: from a few years ago.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: It's been circulated on the internet.
- 1:05:44Speaker 20: It was really interesting to see the Patriots try to
- 1:05:46Speaker 20: move up, probably for Gonzalez, only the Commanders traded up instead.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: How we still ended up with the better player. Would
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: love to know your thoughts.
- 1:05:52Speaker 20: Eric from Rochester, he asked, Christian from LA seems like
- 1:05:55Speaker 20: the type of guy who would have passed on Gonzo.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Why would he do that? So for this, Bean said,
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: have you seen the clip?
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Have not?
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Have you say so? Similar to the similar to the Eagles.
- 1:06:04Speaker 20: With the Justin Jefferson thing where they got laughed about
- 1:06:07Speaker 20: them not taking him.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: It was Commander's draft room. They're trading up.
- 1:06:11Speaker 20: Van Ness got taken and then their GM was like
- 1:06:15Speaker 20: we're taking Forbes.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Like it's like between Gonzon and Fores like.
- 1:06:18Speaker 20: Forbes is the better player, which is interesting because now
- 1:06:20Speaker 20: Forbes is not even on the team anymore. He's on
- 1:06:23Speaker 20: the Rams and the Pats got very lucky. So a
- 1:06:27Speaker 20: bit of that could be the Commander's Nikhil Harry's situation
- 1:06:31Speaker 20: with their cornerback issues.
- 1:06:33Speaker 21: Yeah, I think the Pats locked out with Gonzo for sure.
- 1:06:36Speaker 21: Forbes had a lot of upside coming into that draft.
- 1:06:39Speaker 21: He was I think one of the I think he
- 1:06:40Speaker 21: was the top rated to get back get in the draft, so.
- 1:06:43Speaker 15: I mean said a lot.
- 1:06:45Speaker 20: Yeah, he did little a lot, which is crazy because
- 1:06:47Speaker 20: I'm pretty sure if you redrafted that he'll be top five.
- 1:06:50Speaker 21: Gonzo is one of the best covery corners that organ
- 1:06:52Speaker 21: so I and in the pack twelve where they packed
- 1:06:56Speaker 21: telve at the time back then. So I mean, I
- 1:06:59Speaker 21: don't know, it's it's definitely up for debate. But it's like,
- 1:07:02Speaker 21: how do you know in that moment, what hell these
- 1:07:04Speaker 21: players would turn out?
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:06Speaker 21: So it's like kind of hard dolling coutos kind of
- 1:07:09Speaker 21: back and forth.
- 1:07:09Speaker 20: Yeah, all right, Hi guys, are you surprised that the
- 1:07:12Speaker 20: Patriots did not draft a quarterback?
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Quin uers would have been a good pickup.
- 1:07:15Speaker 20: Is there any news of Pats interest in any free
- 1:07:18Speaker 20: agent quarterbacks or trades?
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Yemmy in Texas, do sign any undrafted guys?
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:07:26Speaker 20: There's reports that we were bringing in a camp body
- 1:07:29Speaker 20: more or less. But right now we got Drake May,
- 1:07:31Speaker 20: Josh Dobbs, obviously, Joe Milton what the Cowboys Paul always says.
- 1:07:36Speaker 20: I mean, there's no like, it's not bad to drafted quarterback.
- 1:07:38Speaker 20: It's good business because you're gonna hit on one. I'm
- 1:07:41Speaker 20: a little surprised, but personally, I think this franchise might
- 1:07:45Speaker 20: be a little traumatized.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: The Bailey Zappi, Matt Jones, de Vacle.
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: And then even the Joe Milton ye, which.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: You heard some stuff, but you know, you know, you
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:07:54Speaker 15: But you never know the full story.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: Dobbs.
- 1:07:56Speaker 20: Dobbs is a great veteran, He's been in the league
- 1:07:58Speaker 20: for a long time. That's what you want with.
- 1:07:59Speaker 21: The back they're locked. You obviously drinks your starter. Dobbs
- 1:08:02Speaker 21: is a really solid backup quarterback. I mean kind of
- 1:08:06Speaker 21: serves a similar role. If Drake were to have started
- 1:08:08Speaker 21: all year last year and Scobian with actually just kind
- 1:08:11Speaker 21: of that he's been been.
- 1:08:13Speaker 15: Doing it for a while. He's been in for a while.
- 1:08:14Speaker 21: So those two are locks, and as far as whoever
- 1:08:17Speaker 21: comes in as well, Like I mean, they're just gonna.
- 1:08:21Speaker 15: Learn from those two ahead of them.
- 1:08:23Speaker 21: So I think grant scheme of things that extra person,
- 1:08:26Speaker 21: regardless of who it is, I don't think it matters
- 1:08:28Speaker 21: too much to kind of what's going on, just more
- 1:08:30Speaker 21: in the fact that you can develop and kind of
- 1:08:31Speaker 21: grow onto them.
- 1:08:32Speaker 8: I think it just speaks to to just the type
- 1:08:34Speaker 8: of draft it was. It wasn't a quarterback to you know, not.
- 1:08:37Speaker 15: All I'm drafting Shandora.
- 1:08:41Speaker 20: That would have been crazy if he's just there, all right.
- 1:08:44Speaker 20: Last email Fortune and Foxborough release date. Hi Gang, wondering
- 1:08:49Speaker 20: if the loyal pe listeners can get insider information on
- 1:08:51Speaker 20: the release date for Fortune fox Bro When will it be?
- 1:08:54Speaker 20: The sneak peak looks amazing. Keep up the great work
- 1:08:56Speaker 20: as always. Matt from Saskatchewan s gratitude. I definitely said
- 1:09:00Speaker 20: that on sketch guys that we're going to say the
- 1:09:07Speaker 20: trailer was awesome.
- 1:09:08Speaker 15: You did nothing.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: If you want, if you don't relaxed, you did nothing.
- 1:09:11Speaker 20: But if you want, if you want to see more, just
- 1:09:13Speaker 20: stay up to date with Patriots dot com and you'll
- 1:09:14Speaker 20: you'll find out soon enough.
- 1:09:16Speaker 21: Shut up nothing, We're good, all.
- 1:09:21Speaker 20: Right, guys, thank you for listening to p you extra,
- 1:09:23Speaker 20: send in your emails to podcast at patriots dot com.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: If they don't get read on the show, we'll read
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: them here. And now great moments in history.
- 1:09:35Speaker 22: I mean, I think it's a balancing act. And I
- 1:09:36Speaker 22: mean I think building a team, you don't want to
- 1:09:38Speaker 22: get too young. You want to still have some veteran presence.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: But uh, but did you hear that? You know?
- 1:09:44Speaker 22: I also don't think you can turn it all over
- 1:09:47Speaker 22: to we haven't even eaten yet, Fred. What are they doing, Matt,
- 1:09:51Speaker 22: Matt's going to take care of business?
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: It down?
- 1:09:58Speaker 22: Why was this marine must ties the bandana first for
- 1:10:01Speaker 22: some reason?
- 1:10:01Speaker 20: Like what is Rambo?
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: What is that look? But I'm coming to get you, Yeah, Todd, I.
- 1:10:12Speaker 22: Would just say, though I think generally, you know, Paul
- 1:10:14Speaker 22: and I are the same page. It's just like this
- 1:10:15Speaker 22: team has to get younger.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: They gotta get younger. And so that guy's dead now,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: everybody so covering blood neutralizes the word.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: We use that.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: The fastest I've ever seen you disposed of my body.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: That was impressive.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: That's good.
- 1:10:32Speaker 13: I don't have to be a witness being on the phone.
- 1:10:34Speaker 21: Right, No, you don't know what happened.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: I don't know what happened, saying he didn't see anything.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Thanks Todd, appreciate it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 20: That's another great moment from Yeah.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: That's why we put on the on air sign outside
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: so that people know there's more helped before they get
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: put out.
- 1:10:51Speaker 8: Today they're wowed out there.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Well, kenderl Mar's got a big set and clean.
- 1:10:54Speaker 8: I love that Math's not here today, but he set
- 1:10:56Speaker 8: himself up with like a nice clip that makes him
- 1:10:58Speaker 8: look real good.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Right, he knows what we doing. Patre's on filters. Sorry Alex, Sorry.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered is sponsored by the Massachusetts two fifty campaign,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: commemorating a history of possibility, playing your revolutionary weekend at
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Massachusetts two fifty dot org fifty revolution you know to
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: f to fitty. It's also the three hundred and fiftieth
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: anniversary of King Filters. Well, don't get me started on that,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: but no one wants to talk about that one. But anyway,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: we heard from Williams Kendrick Bourne when.
- 1:11:27Speaker 8: You brought up your books you were reading earlier.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I thought nobody wants to around Nobody ever wants to
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: hear about what books you're reading, right like, and you're
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: in your own world reading your book and you just
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: want to talk to somebody about it sometimes, but you
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: don't want to. There's no way to bring it out
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: without being like, I'm reading a book, actually, let me
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: tell you about it.
- 1:11:42Speaker 8: As bad as fantasy, fantasy, but.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: Rather listener, you talk about the books that you're reading
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: than someone's fantasy. Fair enough the golf game.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I just feel like we're bad.
- 1:11:52Speaker 8: We sat down and the first thing you said to
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: me today was about holding out for one fifty.
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: Did I tell you anything else?
- 1:12:00Speaker 8: No, No, just that you know someone all hold out
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: from one.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: That's not exaggerated on that's ridiculous. That's pretty good though,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: And so now you're you're back in on golf. That's
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: how it works with golf, right like, you hit one
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: really because I retired, I can't wait to get back out.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: So guys, we heard from Williams and Kendrick Wormer over
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: there speaking a little bit. Caught some of the highlights.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne very excited to have Josh McDaniel's back, probably
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: no surprise had maybe the best year of his career
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: there with Josh back in twenty twenty one, and No
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Williams had thought out a good story that everybody tweeted out.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: You know, somebody tells the story to podium. He gets
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: seventeen different accounts from it within three seconds. But he
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: said he was leading a sprint race and kind of
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: let up a little bit at the end, and Rabel
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: yelled at him a little bit and said, you know,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: you got to set the tone. Don't wait up for
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: anybody you know'll finish as hard as you can. So
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: in a little little glimpse behind the curtain there of
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: of Mike Rabel with mil Williams, who's going to be
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: a huge part of this team this year, arguably the
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: biggest free agent signing, not just for this team, but
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: one of the biggest free agency fishes this year. Talking
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: to Derek Haynes at Derek Havens and Steve Balas Schueri yesterday,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: who said hello on their podcast, but they had a
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: good question.
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: Two of my favorite blogger types.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Oh great guys, But we were talking just a little
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: bit about the defensive line, as you know, I am,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I am want to do. That's probably why they had
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you on. Yeah right, that's exactly right. But just wondering
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: how it's gonna all come together. It seems like Barmore
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: has been around, which is encouraging. All we know is
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: we've seen him in pictures working out here, which I
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: just take as a positive sign. I don't know what
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: his prognosis is right now, if he's beyond it, if
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: he's still dealing with it, but he's here. That's encouraging.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Getting him and Milton Williams out there at the same time,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: that feels like that's the special sauce for this Patriots defense.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: If they can get those two guys, and this defense
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: has largely been remade, I think schematically it's going to
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: be all new to us, and you guys all make
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: fun of me, but I'm excited to get out there
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: and just see what it looks like a little bit.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Last point, I just want to bring up Paul, because
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: we didn't talk about it. Was Terrell Williams, which was
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: also announced Friday you brought that had a health issue.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Spoke with reporters on Friday afternoon, catching people up really
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: His message was, don't take things for granted, take care
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: of yourself. I think he's intimated that he had taken
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: things a little bit for granted, maybe not taking as
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: good a care of himself as maybe he could have said.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: He's still been very involved with the team, checking in
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: via zoom, all that stuff. Hopefully he's back soon. And
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: he lastly had high praise for Zach Kerr, who was
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: with him in Tennessee, who will be kind of running
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: the defense, leading the defense at least in person until
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Terrell Williams is able to get back. So unfortunate news
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: kind of the first little bit of I don't know,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: think it didn't break great for the Patriots.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: I would say this offseason. Otherwise, they've had.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: A pretty good offseason and things have generally broken in
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: their favor. But we'll see when he's able to get back.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: So hope he can get back sooner than it.
- 1:14:55Speaker 8: Was encouraging that he was able to hop on a
- 1:14:58Speaker 8: zoom because to me, it looks like he's probably trending
- 1:15:01Speaker 8: towards getting better and coming back, or as if I
- 1:15:05Speaker 8: think it were still a more dire situation, maybe they
- 1:15:08Speaker 8: would still just be like they.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: Let him speak for himself, right, I mean that was
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Brabel came out, made the announcement and then said we're
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: gonna actually let you guys speak with Terrell in person
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: on Friday afternoon.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: So yeah, I was.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: I was encouraged by that too, and again just had
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: such he got really emotional talking about Mike Rabel and
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: what Mike Frabel is meant to him from the trailer
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: we saw earlier a couple of weeks ago for Fortune
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: in Foxborlle. He said, you know, yes, the opportunity to
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: be a defensive coordinator was the reason to come here,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: but really the biggest reason was Mike Rabel. So you
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: just like you see the loyalty from the guys that
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: he's worked with, that they want to work with him.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I mean stretch John Striker was out with the Rams.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know exactly. I think it was
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: game management kind of stuff, but still an excellent organization
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: out there in the Rams there one year. Didn't hesitate
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: jump right back to Mike Frabel. Seem everybody knew that
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: that was going to happen as well. Uh just says
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: it means good things to me. I just no one's
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: surprised that I'm excited about my friend Will being the
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: coach of this team, but everything that's kind of gone
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: on since he's got back, I just I think it's
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: it's really encouraging and it's exciting to watch this football
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: team come together. I've only I was leaning about it, PAULI,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: I've only I've seen like, oh, I've seen three coaches
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: like here, you've only seen four. You've been here like five.
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: Times last year Peter Carold was my first year.
- 1:16:24Speaker 23: Other than that, because in my mind, I was trying
- 1:16:29Speaker 23: to compare, like, because we've seen some joint practices too,
- 1:16:32Speaker 23: so I have some experience seeing how other teams kind
- 1:16:36Speaker 23: of run things a tiny bit.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: It's always when you do those joint practices, it's always
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: geared towards joint practices, so you don't know if you're
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: getting the real practice. Example was when we were down
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: in Philly, remember a couple of years ago, everyone were
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: talking about Philly's doing shorter practices. There we went and
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: then yeah, it was it was a very different practice
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: than we were used to watching for the Patriots. So
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I love that kind of stuff. Love getting the.
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: Same to the super Bowl twice in three years, right, true?
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Really you bring that up again.
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: It's amazing to be on the practice field for eight
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: hours to find a way to win games if you
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: have talent. But I one thing that you said that
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: I really agree with is just how the defense has
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: been remade and they're gonna be I don't know, a
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: half dozen minimum new starters, right, I mean Harold Landry
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: and Milton Williams and Robert Splaine, not Sperlaine, but Spillane.
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: Uh yeah, I mean Carlton Davis, and that they're going
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: to be a number of guys playing prominent roles that
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: are that are new. And now the you know, like
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: you guys know how I always operate. Mike is a
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: defense guy. I'm the concern guy. I get worried about
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: stuff because that's just my upbringing. And how does it
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: all fit together? How do the new how do the
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: new piece at the most so then you even can
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: imagine now, but how they all how the new pieces
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: all fit together?
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: And what worries you most right now, Paul Perillo about
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: this team Patriots.
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: For the Patriots in general, would be the offense and
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: can they can they be better?
- 1:18:09Speaker 11: Can?
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: If you have to pigeonhole me into one thing, Drake May.
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: Does Drake May take the year two jump and, you know,
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: sort of cut back on the mistakes and become the
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: guy that we all think he can be. Or does
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: he sort of stagnate and like kind of stay that
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: super talented but erratic rookie that we saw last She.
- 1:18:34Speaker 8: Tapes out too Now, you know, like it's not like
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: he's this young fresh guy coming into the NFL. No
- 1:18:39Speaker 8: one really knows what to expect other than what they
- 1:18:41Speaker 8: saw from college. And now he has a whole season
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: that he put together and started.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: There was one player you could think of, you what's
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: your number one? No, I think that that's a really
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: good one. I feel like the defense will be good enough.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: I think that they have an aggressive scheme. I think
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: they might get gashed at times with big plays because
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: that's lived by the sword by the sword. But I
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: think they'll do enough to be able to disrupt opposing offenses.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: But I guess the question I was thinking about when
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: you said that is who's second behind Drake? Who can
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: do the most to help Drake have that year? Is
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: it Stefon Diggs getting to the level he was at
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: with the Bills and what he did for Josh Allen,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: is it the offensive line getting stabilized?
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: And I would say that, I would say the second one,
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: and you know kind of Josh McDaniels falls into that.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: You know, how much better does the entire operation look
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: because it's more cohesive in terms of its structure. And
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: I would put that on Josh.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm interested to see. Just when we
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: get out to OTAs next week, that'll be something. Again.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: It's not so much the players the performance, but just
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: not that we're getting back to who has the walkie talkie?
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Remember those days in.
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: Twenty twenty two, who's got the walkie?
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: Who's calling the place? We didn't know? But now that
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: that Josh is back, just that was I spent a
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: lot of time watching him during the rookie mini camp
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: practice too, but he was a little more hat hands
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: off than I thought maybe he would have been. I
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: don't know if if if there had been Drake May,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: was there a rookie quarterback that he really had a
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: couple of kids, your kid from Brown as well as
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: who is the the other player, the other quarterback? I'm
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: blanking on his name, will the other guy? I got it,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I got it written down right, let's see. That's why
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: I bring my death chart everybody. Yeah, Ben Woolridge, Ben Woolridge,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: not will wolves Ridge from Louisiana. Louisiana. So I thought
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: those guys looked okay, wolds Reach guy's got a chance.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm just interested to see the dynamics of
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: who's coaching who and who's wearing all that. We'll get
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: another guns next week.
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: A lot of change, a lot of change.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Jump out Alex's Neck of the Woods and agawam, it's Patty, Hey,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Patty going on everyone much? What's going on with you?
- 1:20:47Speaker 13: Driving back to my shop, I'm done, I'm pretty much
- 1:20:50Speaker 13: done with work for the day. But I just want
- 1:20:52Speaker 13: to do all you were talking about Drake May and
- 1:20:55Speaker 13: the second year jump, and just to kind of piggyback
- 1:20:58Speaker 13: off of that, I'll give you one of the reasons
- 1:21:01Speaker 13: why I'm optimistic, and that's, you know, the fact that
- 1:21:05Speaker 13: he did look good last year. You know, he looked
- 1:21:08Speaker 13: a little erratic. But I'll say I'll kind of mammullion
- 1:21:13Speaker 13: on that and say I think he's gonna look a
- 1:21:14Speaker 13: lot better with this coaching staff, especially with Josh McDaniels.
- 1:21:18Speaker 13: But another big reason why I'm I'm very optimistic. Is
- 1:21:21Speaker 13: I just look at like the first four picks at
- 1:21:24Speaker 13: least offensively like that they made this year, and I'll
- 1:21:28Speaker 13: even lump in Folk. I'm not going to give up
- 1:21:29Speaker 13: on them. You know, the Crafts, the bet this year,
- 1:21:32Speaker 13: I'll give up on him. But like the oldest guy,
- 1:21:35Speaker 13: the oldest guys are full twenty three. Kyle Williams is
- 1:21:37Speaker 13: twenty three, and everyone else is younger than that. And
- 1:21:40Speaker 13: I think if they can all develop like together and
- 1:21:43Speaker 13: learn and you know, make mistakes and learn from their mistakes,
- 1:21:48Speaker 13: I mean, we got even if they're all just good,
- 1:21:52Speaker 13: good players, you know, we got a pretty good young nucleus.
- 1:21:54Speaker 13: And I just wanted to see what you guys had
- 1:21:56Speaker 13: to say about that. And that's it. I'll talk the
- 1:22:00Speaker 13: guys either Thursday or next week, NICs.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Patty, to find out how competition plays out.
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: Hard to say I'll tell you about the young nucleus
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: this time next year. I have no idea. Yeah, I
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: mean I didn't really get the whole youngest thing. What
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: about Diggs, what about Bourn, Hunter, Henry? I mean, those
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: are the guys that I think are going to be instrumental.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: I would even throw to Mario Douglas in there, if
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: it's going to be we're just going to rely on
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: Kyle Williams as a rookie third round pick and Jalen
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: Polk to somehow overcome his struggles from a year ago.
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: I don't think they're going to be in great shape,
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: but I would expect Digs to at least be competent.
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: At the very baseline, he's going to be a competent receiver.
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: I think to Mario Douglas will benefit from being a
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: Josh McDaniel's scheme. And I think Kendrick Bourne, as you
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: mentioned a little while ago, had his best year as
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: an NFL player, So can Josh mcgenial still tap into that.
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: Or they look at Born and say he's a guy
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: we need to move and we need to make way
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: for Kayshawn Booty. But those are the guys like I
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: don't really care how old they are now. Is it
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: a nice thing if Kyle Williams turns in let's just
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: see seventy seventy five catch, eight hundred yard season as
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: a rookie, Well, that is fantastic to have a young
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: receiver like that that can go the next four or
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: five years with Drake May, that would be absolutely ideal,
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: but I don't need it to be that way. I
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: don't have any problem if it's to Mario Douglas making
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: that leap or Stefan Diggs sort of solidifying the whole
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: thing and making making life easier on on Drake May.
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: I don't really care how it happens. Would it be
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: ideal if it's it's a couple of the younger guys
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: Jalen Polk bounces back, and everything that we thought we
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: saw in training camp last year we see this year
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: in the regular season.
- 1:23:52Speaker 15: Great.
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: Yeah's who's the chain mover? That's my question.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: Because I think it's got to be Douglas. I mean,
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: but if you go to the whole Josh McDaniels thing
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: with that volume slot.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: Guy, doesn't he scare you with him as a volume guy?
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: With his size.
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and his catch radius he's small, feels like And
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: now Welker had a small catch radius and he caught
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: a million passes. So I'm not telling you it can't happen.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: They're all just so specific, and it's born has an
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: element of run after catch. I would say he's a
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: little bit of a gadget kind of a guy. Booty
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: is an outside guy who was pretty much shots right
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: shots to him.
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: I mean there wasn't a lot of but Henry can
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: do that too. Henry can chain mover kind of thing.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: That's why I still hold out a little bit of
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: hope for Jalen Polk. I just I think he's got
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: the size. I don't know if he has the quickness
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: necessarily to get open as consistently as Josh might like
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: him to, but his physicality it stands out to me.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: And just gonna make a prediction. Ready for a prediction,
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: let's go. Fred always likes to tease me because I
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: pre arrange my fights in my head. Right, I invent
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: that he Polk had a great campus.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: No he didn't.
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: That's going to be the debate. That's my prediction. There
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: are going to be an element of people saying bounce
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: back year two. Yet, well, I mean, look, look, everybody
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: wrote off Polk, and then there's gonna be another segment
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: of fans that are going to say, yeah, we wrote
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: them off, and he said, this is what we saw
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: last year, he thinks, and who knows who's gonna end
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: up being right. But that's gonna happen. There's going to
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: be a wildly differing opinion on Jalen Polk once training
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: camp is over.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: He's intriguing to me just the way that Josh views
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: his skill set and how he can play with that
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: A little bit. I think I don't know how.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: To compare him to like with Josh as had in
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: the past, Givens.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Is that wrong? You saw more Givens in person than
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: I ever did, But I just see him as a
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: bigger kind of physics.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: So I would say if he was Givens, that's kind
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: of feeding into what I'm saying about how wildly different
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: people's version are going to be. Like he could play
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: like that and a lot of people would say, yeah,
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: he's a bust and he could play like that, and
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: a lot of people say, see he's got something. You know.
- 1:26:10Speaker 8: I wonder how much of it was mental for him
- 1:26:12Speaker 8: last year.
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: I think it was a big like it was a
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: big part of me. That's why I worry about it.
- 1:26:16Speaker 8: Getting one? Was it once or twice early in the season.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: That well, there was one he didn't get feet inbounds,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: and I think he thought was a big drop. And
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: then there was one in the back of the end
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: zone that his heel came down, and I think he
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: thought of it.
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: And my bigger problem was that he thinks he was
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: in he thinks they were catches. That's my bigger problem
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: with it. And so instead of just saying ah, and
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: I was close, Yeah, what could have been, It's like
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: I'm now I'm fighting everybody.
- 1:26:39Speaker 8: And then wasn't there a thing where Gerrod was kind
- 1:26:41Speaker 8: of just chalking it up to like it's a mental thing,
- 1:26:43Speaker 8: he'll learn and he'll grow. And then he walked. He
- 1:26:46Speaker 8: kind of contradicted.
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: That he got met like, yeah.
- 1:26:49Speaker 8: A maturity, mental thing. Hopefully he gets past that this year.
- 1:26:52Speaker 8: That's my opinion.
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: I totally agree with you. That was the biggest problem, Alex,
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: and that's why I'm worried about it. Well, that's it's
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: hard to just sort of magically fix. Well.
- 1:27:02Speaker 8: I wonder if Rabel will just kind of just demand
- 1:27:05Speaker 8: a lot better, Like I think Rabel commands a room
- 1:27:09Speaker 8: differently than Gerrod did, whereas I think they all really
- 1:27:13Speaker 8: liked Gerad. But it's like it's your friend, it's not
- 1:27:15Speaker 8: your I don't know.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear what you're saying. And again, this is
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: going to go back to what I said of not
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: trying to crap on last year's not But do you
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: feel like that offensive coaching staff brutal gave him enough
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: tools to be successful, and once things started to go sideways.
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: With it, they gave him too much too soon.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: Well, I know they said that. They said that, and
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: that wasn't really what I was trying, And that wasn't
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: really what I was trying to get at. It was
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: more just they didn't know how to save them. They
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: didn't know how to when you see a receiver, maybe
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: you have experienced with this Paul hitting a wall or
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: hitting a rookie wall. That happens a lot, how to
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: get somebody out of that funk. Because for him, after
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: that moment with his heel in the end zone, it
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: was a consistent.
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: But that's my point about why I worry more about
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: the mental because if you just look, he drops some
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: passes last year. Receivers drop passes sometimes. But if you
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: if you're really having a problem with concentration, focus catching
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: the ball, you just I mean, you're catching a thousand
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: balls off the drugs machine before every practice, you know,
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: you just really like, I gotta focus. It's a physical
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: thing and I can get over the hump. Yes, it's
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: part of it is mental, but it's a physical thing.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: I need to catch the ball. When it's a mental
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: thing and you're dealing with these kinds of it's it's hard.
- 1:28:31Speaker 8: Like media asking about it always constantly.
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: But you know, like I was, this is going to
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: come as a shock to most. Like when I when
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: I played, when I pitched in college and my whole life,
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: I was always hard on you know, the umpires, Like
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: the umpires would drive me crazy, right, and I never
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: wanted to be that guy, but I always ended up
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: being that guy all the time, no matter how much
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: I thought about it, no matter how much I I
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: focused on. Okay, no matter what happens today, I'm not
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: going to give the umpire a hard time, not going
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: to give him a second look. I'm not gonna bitch.
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: I'm just gonna pitch. I should have used that, right.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: I never I was never brought enough to come up
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: with that back in the day. But I would. I
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: would sit there and I would pitch, and I would
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: go like six innings, seven innings, and I'd be like
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: I felt like the Empire didn't miss one pitch. This
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: is like great you know, five innings, six innings, seven innings.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: All of a sudden, I have like a two to
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: two pitch in in the eighth inning, and he missed it,
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: and he missed it, and I'd lose my have a
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: love in mind?
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Now you miss one like one pitch.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: I was like, what happened? You had this whole thing
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: like you would go. You were staying calm today, And
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: as soon as I thought I got wronged once, I would.
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: I would flip, you know, not openly, but I would.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I would.
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: It would bother me.
- 1:29:51Speaker 8: Perspectives, every would bother me, perspectives everything, Like if you
- 1:29:55Speaker 8: think the world's out to get you, yes, you think
- 1:29:57Speaker 8: the world's.
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: Out there, the world is all to get you something,
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: it's probably not. I tell Mike all the time. Just
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: because I'm parano, it doesn't mean they're not ought to
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: get me.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: It's a classic VIC quote right there, right jumping back.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: I got an over under game here from Kyle I
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: believe in Pembroke. Yeah, there's only one Kyle, and he's
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: from Pembroke. Over unders, guys, here we go wins seven
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: point five.
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: It's a good number, and go over. It's a good number.
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say over because I want
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: to be positive.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Okay, that's good. You can be negative in some of
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: these other ones.
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: May passing TDS thirty point five under.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: That's a lot. That's a big number. I'm gonna go under.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: Two May interceptions ten point five over, it's a good number.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: Diggs receiving yards eight hundred point five, it's gonna say
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: a thousand yard seasons.
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: I'm gonna say under on that.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna say little pup, Pup, pup, pup.
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: I could, yeah, I could change that based on eleven games.
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: What I see, what he's able to do as the
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: off these nunfolds.
- 1:31:01Speaker 8: I'm gonna take the positivity theme.
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: But what you said, you said pop for Diggs.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Pop.
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: If he starts on pup, I don't think he's gonna
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: get eight hundred yards.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: So that's an easy way to say it. Eleven games only,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: But he was on track for a thousand yards last year.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: Yes, just barely.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Williams Kyle Williams receiving yards four hundred point five,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: it's a solid number.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: Just staying positive. I think I'm gonna say it over.
- 1:31:30Speaker 8: I'm gonna stay over to because it's just interesting how
- 1:31:34Speaker 8: it's gonna shake out with how many guys they have,
- 1:31:36Speaker 8: you know, like there's so much competition at that position.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: We're going to so many questions on that over the
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: next two months leading up to start. I'm just gonna say, now,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I don't know. Someone probably will get hurt and someone
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: will get cut that you don't expect, but it's hard
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: to say right now. Gonzo interceptions three point five.
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: I'm gonna take the under on that. Yeah, they think
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: people are going to stay away from.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Them, they don't throw them.
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: Key On White sacks five point five.
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: Take the over on that. I don't think that's a
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: very big number.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Take the over two. I'm gonna surprise some people with that.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: I think the other guy's getting more attention. Maybe free
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: some things up for key On White to dominate games
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: scoring thirty plus points Paul two point five. I gotta
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: get back on my number of when the last time
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: they exceeded thirty points was.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: I'm gonna take the under, but that's that's a low number.
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: Two and a half. I mean, you get a couple
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: of pick sixes in the scene, you know what I mean, Like.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll go over bridany alex positivity training.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: There you go, all right, yeah, I'll change. I'll go
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: over just to stay on the positive.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: One more game scoring less than twenty five, ten point five.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: Under ten point five eleven times they're going to score.
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: Oh my god, under twenty five?
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: What are we doing? What are you doing here?
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: I can't you know what. I can't do it again.
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: I can't keep doing it. Got a punt, punt punt?
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: Oh man, I can't do it.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: Tim from Lington Spy ponders, say, Tim, what's going on?
- 1:33:06Speaker 16: Hey guys, how's it going? I have two quick things,
- 1:33:10Speaker 16: and the first one is a serious football question, and
- 1:33:13Speaker 16: the second one since I've been listening to Unfiltered slash
- 1:33:16Speaker 16: PFW in progress since I was in college, it's directly
- 1:33:20Speaker 16: specifically at Paul Perlo. I just have a question insights,
- 1:33:25Speaker 16: Oh all right, my football question that I'm happy to
- 1:33:28Speaker 16: take both off air. My football question real quick is
- 1:33:32Speaker 16: I know Josh's going to have a new system for
- 1:33:35Speaker 16: direct well not a new system, but he could have adjusted.
- 1:33:37Speaker 16: It's not going to be the same as Brady. He
- 1:33:38Speaker 16: adjusted with Cam. He adjusted you know, in Oakland or
- 1:33:42Speaker 16: Las Vegas. YadA, YadA, YadA, But my football question, and
- 1:33:46Speaker 16: then I'll ask my TFW question, is what made Josh's
- 1:33:50Speaker 16: system so much more complicated? It's the minds of some
- 1:33:53Speaker 16: because I listened to NFL players, like even receivers who
- 1:33:56Speaker 16: quote unquote got it, like Brandon Marshall talked about how
- 1:33:59Speaker 16: he had many playbooks throughout his career, and Josh's system
- 1:34:03Speaker 16: was by far the most complicated. Everyone keeps saying getting
- 1:34:06Speaker 16: on the same page as quarterbacks if I take it
- 1:34:08Speaker 16: that side adjustment, and there's players that said the route
- 1:34:12Speaker 16: would change three times sometimes after the snap. That was
- 1:34:15Speaker 16: a Patriots player to one of the Boston media. But
- 1:34:18Speaker 16: I can't imagine Josh's system is the only system with
- 1:34:20Speaker 16: side adjustments and it's not the only iteration of the
- 1:34:23Speaker 16: Earnhart Perkins. So the football question is what made what
- 1:34:27Speaker 16: made Josh's system more complicated? And are there any worries
- 1:34:31Speaker 16: for receivers like Polk even if it's not as complicated
- 1:34:34Speaker 16: as he has to think more and a large partisan
- 1:34:37Speaker 16: issues were with concentration. And then my PFW question, And
- 1:34:43Speaker 16: I waited ten plus years fast this because I didn't
- 1:34:46Speaker 16: want it to be in bad taste. But Paul, do
- 1:34:49Speaker 16: you remember when Eric went on his safari to Africa.
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: I do do you remember how I think Andy kept
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: joking about him getting eaten by a lion, and you know, hey,
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: it would have been a bad event, but it would
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: have been a good story, great, great story. I believe
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: you called it him.
- 1:35:06Speaker 16: Exactly well. Andy at the time, I think was also
- 1:35:10Speaker 16: training for the Boston Marathon, and there was some jokes
- 1:35:12Speaker 16: made that hey, if something happened, you know, it might
- 1:35:14Speaker 16: be bad, but it'd be a great story. And then
- 1:35:16Speaker 16: obviously the tragedy of this, yeah, you know, the marathon.
- 1:35:20Speaker 16: My question is, what was the reaction, you know, after
- 1:35:23Speaker 16: everyone knew everyone was okay and Andy got back in
- 1:35:26Speaker 16: the studio, was it.
- 1:35:26Speaker 13: Like a oh crap.
- 1:35:28Speaker 8: Uh?
- 1:35:29Speaker 16: Yeah, I can really hear the great story stuff afterwards.
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: I think you did the right thing, tim by waiting years,
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: ten years to do that, because I do think it
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: would have been perceived to have been in poor taste.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: It did leave an impact. Andy's family was very near
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: the finish line at the time, so yeah, it would
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: have been definitely no matter how soon you did it, it
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: would have been too soon in my mind for Andy.
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: But yeah, no, I know where you're going. I see
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: where you're going. It's one thing to sort of joke
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: around about something that didn't happen and joke around what
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: something that did happen was that impactful?
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: Thanks Tim appreciated, what good question.
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: I do think that the Iarhart Perkins system relies a
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: lot on post snap adjustments and whatnot. I think that's
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: part of But I think what made it so complicated,
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: I think was Brady's advanced nature of it and his
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: ability to do more. It's probably the same kind of playbook,
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: but maybe Raiders receivers and Bronco's receivers didn't take it
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: as being as difficult as some Patriots did. And I
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: put that because Brady was just at such an advanced level.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great way to put it.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: It's something that I think it's forgotten when you talk
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: about the complexity of the system. And I mean, I've
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: been just as guilty saying that post snap reads are
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: a big part of it. I think Evan would push
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: back on that too and say there are a lot
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: of teams that do that.
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: I think another part of it too, though, is that
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: you learn concepts, you don't really learn routes, and so
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: you learn concepts and then you can theoretically be moved
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: to any position on the offense. So it's not just
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: learning your spot, it's learning a more holistic approach, like
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: looking the big picture of how I can get it.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: But I think you're totally right, Paul. With Brady, I
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: don't think he gets enough. And look, what do you
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: expect him to do? I mean, the guy's awesome. He's
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: been in the same system forever. He's got a high standard.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: You've heard it now where he'd say players like you
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: run it that way, you ain't getting the ball like
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: I mean, that was how Tom Brady was. The hope
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: is that now Josh has started over with Drake may
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: and it's more of the base level, and that this
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: group can grow together. That goes to what one of
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: the earlier callers just said about the young nucleus. Well,
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: all right, it's great if Kyle Williams and you know,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: these guys can all understand it together and that together,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: Patty said.
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: And that's a great point that you bring up, Mike,
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: because I don't remember a lot of people in the
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: first iteration of the dynasty talking about how complicated the
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: offense was, and that's probably not a coincidence because Brady
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: was at the same level in that offense as Troy
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: Brown and David Gibbons and David Patton and those guys
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: that were all, you know, a big part of his weapons.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: The second part of the Dynasty, Brady is now at
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: a you know, super level PhD compared to the receivers
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: that are coming into it. He just laughs or makes
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: it more complicated, and.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: He could just look at Josh and be like Cleveland
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: twenty thirteen, Yeah, that's or like that shorthand we experienced
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: something little flex.
- 1:38:35Speaker 4: Right there by Deuce because I don't know if you
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: know this, Alex, but Mike and I sat down and
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: we talked with Josh McDaniels, you know, about some of
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: brad comebacks, so you know, and when some of this
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: was on camera, some of it was off. We were
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: just riffing, you know, we're just talking ball, chewing the
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: fact we're just talking ball. You know, we're talking offense
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: in particular passing game. But that was the kind of
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: stuff that that Josh would throw out. Like we got
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: to a point where we could just look and we
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: talk about our game plan and be like, oh so
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: like Cleveland and whatever. Yeah, right, you know that that
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: game that we did this, this and this because Cleveland
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: was doing that and they just knew exactly instinctively what
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: each other was talking about. Why it is different now,
- 1:39:17Speaker 4: It's also.
- 1:39:18Speaker 8: Like, at the same hand, well, Tom and Josh are
- 1:39:22Speaker 8: just becoming like they're molding into almost maybe like the
- 1:39:24Speaker 8: same brain. Offensively, I don't watch enough college football to
- 1:39:28Speaker 8: speak to this, but I hear like the game's really
- 1:39:32Speaker 8: been dumbed down significantly.
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: I picked this is an element of truth.
- 1:39:35Speaker 8: So you're also you're getting these two guys that work
- 1:39:38Speaker 8: together so long, and then you have guys coming in
- 1:39:42Speaker 8: who are used to the dumbing down to the college game,
- 1:39:44Speaker 8: and then it's probably a lot for them to take in.
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, I mean I think that's I think
- 1:39:50Speaker 4: there's some truth to that.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: You just you can't expect in I think any industry
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: to walk into a room where there are two guys
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: who have worked together for twenty years and in an
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: environment where it's rapid and you have to be on
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: top of everything, and these guys just know how to
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: do it together too. Then I feel for some of
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: these wide receivers that would come in and I think
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: some of it was still misscouting and not quite understanding it.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: But at the same time, I think Brady always held
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: the bar so high for these guys and he never
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: really got it was always the system. It was never
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: really like Tom, could you just go a little easy
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: on mkill Harry for a couple of months and let
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: him get some confidence before you start not throwing the
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: ball to him anymore.
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: But not every guy who failed failed because he couldn't
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: pick the system up. You know, like a guy like
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: Ocho Sinko probably struggled, you know, mentally, you know, learning
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: the system. But like Aaron Dobson and Taylor Price, and
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: you know, there was those endless string of love saying
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: them of second and third round receivers that came in.
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: They didn't all fail because they couldn't pick the system up.
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: Some of them probably did, But it wasn't all about that.
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: Nikhil Harry's problem wasn't mental. He wasn't that good, wasn't
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: that talented.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: Because at the end of the day, they're giving you
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: a playbook with the answers to the test. And I
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: would hope that if you're diligent and you study that
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: you cannot understand mentally, maybe physically it might not translate,
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: but like there's not a lot of excuse to like,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: I just don't understand.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: Maybe another sort of really off the wall example. I
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: remember when they traded in what it was it eighteen
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: or nineteen whenever from Mohammed Sanu, and he came in
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: and he got like ten passes like one of the
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: first weeks he was here against Baltimore in that blowout loss.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: But he was on the same page with Brady immediately.
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: He was a veteran who came in and he picked
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: it up. Now physically he wasn't the same guy anymore,
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: and I think he actually hurt his ankle in that
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: Baltimore game. He was a bit player the rest of
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: the way. He never really did anything. It was bad
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: trade as a result, they got too much for him.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: But mentally he picked it up. He physically couldn't be
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: that guy anymore. Second round pick, Yeah, think you have
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: a second round pick for him player. Most of it's
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: goat to Ohio, talk to Brad, Hey.
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: Brad, hey, crew, how are you doing this afternoon?
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: Good? Are you man?
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: Think? Pretty good? So just to reiterate and go back
- 1:42:13Speaker 6: on a couple of callers and Jalen Pope. First of all,
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: you know, I know you all probably agree the amount
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: of dysfunction that our offense was in last year, and
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: even the offensive line and the rookies that we had.
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: I mean, it's probably just hard to press to kind
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: of judge them based on how it functional and ankally
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: incompetent the whole coaching staff was compared to what we
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: have now, especially so I mean, I'm not even going
- 1:42:48Speaker 6: to say that they can't play or anything until I
- 1:42:52Speaker 6: acted to see him in a Josh McDaniel's offense where
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: they may have an opportunity to flourish some like some
- 1:42:59Speaker 6: of these just see as you were speaking at but
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: the givers where you know they weren't super gifted their
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: mark players d M brands, and they put right in
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: with Josh McDaniels. And then I think Polk had storted
- 1:43:14Speaker 6: like Brandon Lafel maybe or Malcolm Mitchell if he could
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: turn into something like that, maybe, But what do you
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: think about that, about how much dysfunction that we were
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: just trying to weep through last year to get them
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: on their and then mentally they didn't have no one
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: there to go to, like Jared Mayo just wasn't I
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: don't think capable of being able to harness their emotional
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: distress and that in that regard. So what do you
- 1:43:46Speaker 6: think about that stuff?
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Thank you, thanks Brad, anybody we got.
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: I think it's an awfully optimistic way of looking at
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: your talent. Like it was all the coaches fault. Maybe
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: it was. I don't know. Like I've heard a lot
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: of I feel a lot better about X, Y and Z.
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: I would probably tell you that I do too, but
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: I don't know. I felt pretty good about a lot
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: of the things left. You know, Scott Peters came over
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: last year as the offensive line coach, and he worked
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: under one of the best offensive line coaches to who
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: has ever done it right in Callahan, Bill Callahan. Now
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: you're calling him dysfunctional. Maybe he was. I don't know.
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: I'm not behind the scenes. You guys were all talking
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: about the strike system and all these different things that
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: they were doing that were innovative or you know, a
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: better way to do not innovative, but maybe a better
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: way to go about it from a physical, you know,
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: technical standpoint. Now we're calling all those same things that
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: at this time last year I was being told how
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: much better it was, and now it's all dysfunctional. Maybe
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: it was, but maybe this is going to be dysfunctional too.
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:45:00Speaker 8: Well, if you want to talk about dysfunctional, that year
- 1:45:02Speaker 8: prior with Patricia felt like the most dysfunctional.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: You know, absolutely didn't even have you didn't even have
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: a strike system.
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: So relative to Adrian Klim was the offensive line coach
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: two years ago and like halfway through the year he
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: was gone, and then Bill O'Brien was forced to run
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: the offensive line meetings as well as run the offense.
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: Like that's dysfunction. No, like they actually didn't physically have
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: coaches in place. O'Brien was doing it all.
- 1:45:26Speaker 8: I know, here's dysfunctional the offense.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: So like, I don't know what it's going to be
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: like this year. I mean, they have like three offensive
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: line coaches. Is that is that a recipe for dysfunction? Maybe?
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: That's a good point. I saw the development though, from
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: going from twenty twenty three to twenty twenty four where
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: you had Scott Peters. Wow, we just have an offensive
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: line coach. Now we seem like we have like the
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: correct whole position.
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: Everything was going to be better and.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: Then this year you still have that. So I like that,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: But I like your point. People want to get, you know,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: carried away right now. Everyone should be positive right now
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: in the NFL. If you can't be positive right now
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: when you're zero at zero and you got two months
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: before training camp, I feel bad for you. But you're right.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: And that's what's great about this game is that until
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: you get on the field, guys start hitting other guys,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: injuries start to pile up. How the teams manage those
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: things you don't truly know.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: Like if you think they went four and thirteen last
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: year because of coaching dysfunction, then I think that you're
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: being very optimistic because it wasn't just about I mean,
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: and I'm not telling you there was no coaching dysfunction.
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: There was, yeah, but they had a talent deficiency across
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: the board that led to the coaching dysfunction. They went
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: four and thirteen the previous year with the same kind
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: of talent. They brought it all back. The reason why,
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: if you're going to put a gun to my head
- 1:46:46Speaker 4: and say you got to pick one or the other,
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: do you think they'll be better or the same. I'm
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: definitely saying better because I think Mike Rabel and Elliott
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: Wolf and Ryan Cowden went to work in this off
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: season and said the problem is the players. We need
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: better players, and they went out and signed fifteen sixteen
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: free agents, ten or twelve of which I think are
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: going to be very important players for this team. They're
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: not all gonna hit, because they never all hit, but
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: I think there's a better chance that they get ten
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: or twelve guys that are playing significant roles and contributing
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: that are gonna be better than the guys they replaced.
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: If that happens, you'll be better. But I can't possibly
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: know that for sure without having seen it.
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: I left that practice on Friday with the hope, seeing
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: how involved Mike Fable was that this is the kind
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: of coach that can take a player who hasn't quite
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: broken out yet but can provide the conditions where this
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: player can excel. We saw a little bit of that
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: last year. I would say Drake ish, I wouldn't like,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: wow when amazing. I mean, he had his issues last year,
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: for sure, but generally I think he looked competent and
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: was able to demonstrate the quality skills that he has.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: But otherwise on the roster. Last year, it maybe Ben
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: Brown is another example of somebody who came out of
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: nowhere and at least was serviceable played.
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: But is that are You're going to be happy if
- 1:48:09Speaker 4: Ben Brown's in the.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Center And that's and that's that that goes to the
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: heart of the point I'm trying to make, is that's
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: just last year there wasn't a blossoming of a player
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: that comes out of nowhere. And it happens a lot
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: across the league. There's always, you know, and I credit
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: a lot of that to coaching. When those unique players
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: all of a sudden blossom. You don't know why or how,
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: but and that's what I just am hoping. I'm not
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: sure great.
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: Like we're talking about like the secondary and they've upgraded
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: the number two cornerback spot with Carlton Davis, and we
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: know Gonzo is there and he's you know, second team
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: All Pro, so we feel good about him. They might
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: need a third guy because Marcus Jones hasn't been able
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: to make it through full seasons here, so they might
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: need someone to augment him. If Craig Woodson could be
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: one of those guys that sort of blossoms into something
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: a little bit more than you think. He was obviously
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: someone they felt really good about. He was a high
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: fourth round pick, which means you come into Day three
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: and Day three opens, you had the whole night to
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: think about it. They traded a lot in Day three.
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: They moved around a lot. They didn't move out of
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: that spot because I think that they identified this guy
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: who had played six years of college football. I cal
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: now full disclosure. He was one of the draft profiles
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: that I wrote. So, yeah, but you get on board
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: when you when you talk to these coaches and it's yea,
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: is it an exception?
- 1:49:26Speaker 8: I feel about the kicker, let's go look, but it's.
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: Like an exceptional young man. You hear these kinds of
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: things and you're like, and you can.
- 1:49:34Speaker 8: Even just in the draft. I don't know if you
- 1:49:36Speaker 8: guys were probably doing the show, but he probably stuck
- 1:49:39Speaker 8: out to me the most in the post dropt interview,
- 1:49:43Speaker 8: like right after being picked, it's like, Wow, this kid,
- 1:49:46Speaker 8: you can just tell is super intelligent.
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: He was described to me as an A plus person,
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: so like if he's got some ability and all of
- 1:49:55Speaker 4: a sudden, he's like the sixth defensive back and he's
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: playing a prominent role instead of like the Jalen Hawkins
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: of the world or the Alex Austen's of the world.
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: Maybe he's better than those guys.
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: I love that you brought him up, Paul, because he's
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: the one player. Referenced Giardi's piece today as well, said
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: the one player when you talked to split, quite sure,
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: it seems like Ellie Wolf and company they saw something
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: in him that they were willing to have a little
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: bit of a gamble on. There weren't didn't feel like
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: there were a lot of gambles in this class. Was
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: pretty much paint by number, which I think we all liked.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: But he's a really interesting player to me and somebody
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: that it felt like they did their own thing on him.
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: And if he does blossom like that, I think it's
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: a positive sign in the future that if they do
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: go off the beaten path a tiny bit, that maybe
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: they're making the right decision. We got Aldred coming in
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: hot here right before the end of the show. Ha Aldred,
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: thanks for calling.
- 1:50:50Speaker 24: Hey, Bith Alex Aldrid, Hey, question I heard some from
- 1:50:57Speaker 24: you earlier. Alex the picture, Yeah, where do you send
- 1:51:00Speaker 24: it through?
- 1:51:02Speaker 8: We are looking for you to send a photo of
- 1:51:04Speaker 8: yourself in so that we can play I guess that
- 1:51:07Speaker 8: regular caller game.
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: I think we all know what you look like. Eldred though.
- 1:51:12Speaker 24: I think so my email and the Twitter. Yeah, hit
- 1:51:18Speaker 24: hit you up and pall up too.
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: I have you on.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: That's all right, You're you're in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Hall of Fame.
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: P that's a different category. Mount Rushmore, pulle, Well, thank you.
- 1:51:32Speaker 24: I appreciate it. I got two questions and I'm gonna
- 1:51:37Speaker 24: let it go at there hit pick it off the
- 1:51:38Speaker 24: air quick. One is I started a rookie camp somerom
- 1:51:42Speaker 24: the pitches and stuff, and then had John Jaws one
- 1:51:45Speaker 24: of the ones from last year with the rookie anything
- 1:51:49Speaker 24: looking into that or they gonna do what they got
- 1:51:51Speaker 24: they cut them at the end of the year.
- 1:51:53Speaker 12: Or excuse me for the year start.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:55Speaker 24: And the other question is can anybody help feel for
- 1:51:59Speaker 24: the fireman nor Carolina coach. I didn't like him at
- 1:52:01Speaker 24: the GM love as the coach, but this image as
- 1:52:06Speaker 24: a legendary.
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: Coach, it certainly is.
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: The latest from Pablo Torre is that you know there's
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: a one it becomes a one million dollar buyout on
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: June first, and he thinks that's not not all of
- 1:52:22Speaker 4: the rama possibility to exercise that, and he never coaches
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: a game for North Carolina. I'd be surprised if it went.
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: I think if you go through all of this, you
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: got to see it through at least try to get
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: the benefits of his coaching all the kids. But it's
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: a mess.
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: Met with and promised they came there to play for him.
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: It's a mess.
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: It's a mess. Uh, gotta get through some emails here. Sorry,
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: didn't do a good enough job today reading.
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: I think you are fantastic, mad you tell yourself.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: Sure, thank you. Listen, Luke and Virginia. I feel like
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: the roster is much more filled out and sturdy than
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: it's been a couple of years. But just wondering, is
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: there any position group or player that you feel like,
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: if they go down or if we suffer an injury
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: to that position group, we're legitimately in deep do do?
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: Aside from Drake, love the whole PU team. Send all
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: my thoughts and prayers to Evan, who's most likely in
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: Dante's seventh Layer right now, And the subject of the
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: email is I love you, Paul. So we'll shut out
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: from your own nice I've said it before. Harold Landry's
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: my guy. I don't I think that's a that's a
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: tough one. They were to lose him. I think they're
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: counting on him to be their every down defensive end.
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: This is not fair what I'm going to answer, Will Campbell.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: Will Campbell, Yeah, it's a good one.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: Yeah, But I do think that they're sort of dangerously
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: thin at a number of spots. I think they've really
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: I agree with him. I think they've solidified the roster
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: in a lot of areas. They've upgraded the talent. We
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: just kind of chronicled some of it. But if you
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: get you know, a couple offensive line injuries, you know,
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: if Diggs can't be healthy, I think the wide receiver
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: group largely looks the same, which isn't good enough in
- 1:53:52Speaker 4: my view. Splain you know, kind of like when Bentley
- 1:53:59Speaker 4: goes on last year. Yep, Yeah, Milton Williams. I think
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: that's a little bit.
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: Maybe why Jack Gibbons is here as a little spellin insurance.
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: You feel good about that? I mean.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: No, And I wonder who's gonna start next to Splaine.
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: As you know, I think we're gonna hear from Gibbons Thursday.
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: I think he said to me with the media, I
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: want to know a little bit more about him.
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: Tell me tell me more about yourself.
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: Well, no, because I kind of envisioned him as just
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: kind of like a scrappy like you know, underdog stories,
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: kind of special teamer who can play defense. But is
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: he more than that?
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: Is maybe I'm selling I'm sure, maybe I'm being Christian.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: Ellen's more than that is?
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: It's where there's I think this just reinforces what you're
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: trying to say. Is that splain every down player?
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: For sure? I think, I mean what he's done in
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: the last the racers come off the field.
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: So what happens if you lose that kind of player?
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: Now?
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: I mean, I think they have a little bit of
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: of depth to deal with, Like if a Gonza were
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: to go down, or Carlton Davis might thrust somebody like
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: Alex Austin into the mix of maybe him. Those are
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: always the third fourth cornerback competition.
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: We're tight. Never spoke a little bit of a bigger,
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: a little bit big never spoken to the man. He
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: doesn't pp much like everybody else either a whole or
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: he doesn't have any idea.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Come out from Georgia. Number one, what do you think
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: we can trade to get Trey Hendrickson to need New England?
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: And how do you guys think mac Hollins can help
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: this team this season? Mac Hollins probably the only receiver
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: we didn't mention that talking about wide receivers. And I
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: see him as in a trench number five, like who
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: has some size for the outside, has some experience, can
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: play a lot of special teams, has some deep playability.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: I mean, I I I like the player. It's just
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: he's not going to be anything. He'll be the spot piece.
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: Someone I think will go and he'll be like four.
- 1:55:52Speaker 8: But to me, he brings like a leadership presence to
- 1:55:55Speaker 8: that room too. Has a real stoicism about him though
- 1:56:01Speaker 8: so grounded literally and figuring we.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Get to the bottom of that one. And Trey Hendrickson,
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: I mean, look, I I keep saying it. I wouldn't
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: be opposed to adding another veteran.
- 1:56:12Speaker 4: They certainly need a like a Clowney, they need a
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: pass rusher, but I don't see them giving up resources.
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: Maybe now, maybe you can get them for pennies and
- 1:56:20Speaker 4: the dollar.
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: Claire, Hi, everyone, Marine, apologies, I have missed some of
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: the show making dinner, but it's anything been mentioned seen
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: on the U d F A tight end CJ Dipprey uh.
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: And Also I was gonna ask if I could participate
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: in the collar quizling but totally shot me down. Yeah, Claire,
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: we know what you look like. So if you can't
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: do it, sorry you have to sit this one out.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: But we will entertain. I mean we saw CJ. There,
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: he's other on the sidelines right near us in the
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: practice on Friday. He was doing a little of a
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: little of this, a little three point stance. We'll get off.
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: It's time to talk to about media, right.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: I talked to Haven's and and and Steve and and
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: Mike Debate yesterday about about you know, specifically about him.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: They asked, I just, I think you always are, like
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: with Henry and Hooper, you're always curious if maybe a
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: blocking tight end could sneak on or they just happy
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: to use somebody like Cayden Wallace third third tackle tight
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: But I think it's a you know, it's a valuable
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: question if you get a guy with some stand in
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: your pants. I said to those guys. I'm like, when
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: do you think you would get to the point where
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: you're like, could we just there's no more blocking tight
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: ends out there, Like no tight ends can block anymore.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: They're all six two two forty and you know, just
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: want to run around with the ball in their hands.
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: With just the athletes. I don't blame them trying to
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: get them in space matchup, you know, trying to get
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: matchup nightmares.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: Not like eighty five powers. See that's but it's funny.
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: It's like watching some of eighty five where we talked
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: about this where the tight end was just an afterthought.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: All Derek Ramsey I think was a couple. It was
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: more of like an h back pass catcher. But yeah,
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: Lynn Dawson was what you're talking about. Rod Rutledge and
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: oh one. He laughed at me once when I was like,
- 1:57:56Speaker 4: do you think you'd be used more as a receiver
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: a week? He put put his arm around.
- 1:58:00Speaker 17: He just thoughted the laugh trains left the station. Was
- 1:58:02Speaker 17: Wiggy was a past catcher. Wiggy was a past catcher. Ye,
- 1:58:06Speaker 17: he was bigger, but he was more athletic than his
- 1:58:09Speaker 17: than his parents. Let's do playing high school basketball. You
- 1:58:14Speaker 17: covered him at East Boston High.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: That's funny.
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: You shut him down right, No, I covered him.
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: Oh I thought you may cover him on defense, Harold,
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: take the guy who's going to be in the NFL.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: Looks like a good athletic matchup. I was at the
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: Herald at the time covering the games.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Forgot about your big Jay journalism background, Small j at best.
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: I'm going to read this one from John Luke from
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: Tennessee originally Rhode Island. I would love to be able
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: to see the Titans game as a primetime game. Not
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: being selfish since I'm going to that game. Last year
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: was my first Patriots game. Bro got video of the
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: Drake May miracle. I'm thinking storylines for that game for
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: able versus old time team going against Cam Warred for sure.
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: By the way, Evan and Mike have been great hires. However,
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: Evan tends to come off as wine and when defending
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: valid points. I figured out why Deuce wanted asking genty.
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: There is video of asking draft prospects their nicknames, and
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: one of Ashton's nicknames is Deuce, so I didn't know that.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: So when Mike would have been interviewing you, double duces,
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: we could have we could have done the double Duce
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: Squared two squared. I didn't know that though.
- 1:59:16Speaker 4: The curb in a hurry, didn't he?
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: Pep and the Deuce is a better name the Pep
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: in the Deuce with with Alex, we need something for
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: you to get you into this one.
- 1:59:26Speaker 8: Something to do with going to the bathroom. I can't.
- 1:59:28Speaker 8: We'll think of it.
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: We'll find something. All right, Well, I think that's going
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: to do it for us here, guys, is that we
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: made it through this Tuesday without our feelish leader Fred and.
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: Great jobs checked it moving.
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: Today. Allergies, allergies hitting me the hair no good. But
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: we will be back Thursday. We're expecting that Jack Gibbons
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: will stop in so we'll get to talk to him
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: a little bit about the linebacker position. You know. I'll
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: be excited about that. And we should have Fred back
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: in the mix schedule tomorrow though, stay tuned and Yesterday
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: documentaries on Friday. Yeah, and we'll see. We'll do a
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: wellness check on Evan tomorrow. See on Thursday.
- 2:00:03Speaker 9: Hey, this is Alex. Thanks for tuning into the show.
