- speaker-1: had a kid that came up to me at the teen center at the YMCA in Indiana ⁓ that I was staying out there for a while, and he he wanted me to foster him. ⁓ Like, I don't do that, man. I'm like, I'm a single guy, man. I'm not fostering kids. ⁓ then eventually I moved back to Las Vegas where my my family came here from Newark. They moved here, and ⁓ I started working as with troubled kids. There, a lot of them were foster kids, and I thought, wow, how'd I get this job? This is it, they keep coming to me, you know. And during that time, ⁓ about three years in, I was doing really well with all these foster kids. They opened up a division in that company for foster care. And they said, Hey, you want to foster? And I was I'm a single guy. I can't foster the yeah, you can. I was like, ⁓ okay. Well, I got a six-bedroom house. Let's do it. Bam. Before you know it, I had six kids in my house. No way. Teenage boys is what I was really good at. The house boys. ⁓ they all survived. It was me that almost didn't survive. during that time, I I kept doing it. I did it for seven straight years. ⁓ I had 43 kids at that time come through my house. And I'll tell you what, I just got chills just saying it out loud, even though I've done it so many times. But like. speaker-0: You live. That is awesome. speaker-1: Man, there's nothing like it. I can't explain it to anybody until you live it. one of the ways I like to explain it is, have you ever watched your kid that you do you do you have kids, right? No. No, you don't have kids. That's right. Nieces and nephews, you you watch them hit that home run, right? Or you watch them ⁓ get an A or you watch them do something spectacular. It makes you feel good because they're your blood, right? But man, when you have a kid who's not yours, who's been through hell and back, and you know it, you see it on paper, their trauma that they go through, and you're guiding them to hit that home run and they do it in front of you, ooh, it feels like a drug that you just want over and over and over again. It's so cool. I try to push that on people. I try to help them feel that because you're not just helping these kids. You're helping yourself. You're helping yourself be it's like it's like somebody has say, Hey, go get a dog because you need to understand love. Well, I'm gonna say get a get kids. Love them and you get love in return. They will be there more for you than your own children.
