- 0:00Have you ever felt confused and overwhelmed with your health?
- 0:03Like your thyroid stuff is just, there's so much to learn.
- 0:08And yes, I have 160 something episodes that you can listen to, to help you with that.
- 0:13I have a program for you to go through to help with that. But sometimes you're
- 0:17just like, I wish that somebody could tell me exactly what is going on right
- 0:21now. And that is what we're going to talk about today.
- 0:23Well, not quite exactly. We're going to talk about how you can use AI in your health.
- 0:29AI is not a replacement for your doctor, but it can help you understand your life.
- 0:40Welcome to the Health with Hashimoto's podcast. This is where you will find
- 0:43clarity and simple, sustainable strategies to feel better.
- 0:47I want to help you figure out your root causes.
- 0:51My name is Esther Yunkin. I am a registered nurse. I spent about 17 years in
- 0:55the emergency department and then got sick and tired of putting band-aids on chronic things.
- 0:59I went back to school and now I have been in holistic health education for about 10 years.
- 1:04I know how exhausting it is to live with fatigue, brain fog,
- 1:09and the ups and downs of Hashimoto's and that is why I'm here.
- 1:12I'm here to cut through the confusion and to give you practical steps that support
- 1:17your body, calm your immune system, so that you can regain your energy and feel like yourself again.
- 1:22Throughout the summer, I was
- 1:23doing a summer short series, which just means they were short episodes.
- 1:27My goal was 10 minutes or less. I didn't always make it, but we focused on tools.
- 1:33And I did think about doing an episode about using AI.
- 1:37And then I was like, wait, no, I cannot do that in 10 minutes.
- 1:39I need a full length episode because there's a lot to cover.
- 1:43And I'm going to tell you, if you don't normally go to the blog,
- 1:47this is one episode where you're going to want to click over to the blog.
- 1:51Because over there, I will have specific scripts for you.
- 1:55I will go over them and explain how to use them later in the episode.
- 1:58If you've never used an AI tool like ChatGPT or Grok or Claude,
- 2:03you have to have good inputs in order to have good answers.
- 2:07Output. And so that is where a good script comes in.
- 2:11And I have those for you on the blog so that you can copy and you can paste right into AI.
- 2:16But first of all, let's talk about like what are some scenarios that you could use AI.
- 2:22First, a real life example from me. If you have ever gone to the link in the
- 2:27show notes that said, you know,
- 2:29get all of Esther's links here and click there, you will see that I have a bunch
- 2:33of different affiliate links and links to my products, links to my programs,
- 2:38links to the school community, all of this stuff.
- 2:41One of those links is to Fullscript.
- 2:43Fullscript, I've talked about it before on the podcast. It's basically like
- 2:47an Amazon of good quality supplements.
- 2:50I do not recommend getting your supplements from Amazon. Fullscript is great.
- 2:54So Fullscript has a ton of multivitamins and I was looking for the best multivitamin
- 3:00that I could get at the cheapest price.
- 3:02With a family of six, I'm not going to waste my money on worthless supplements.
- 3:06At the same time, I'm not made of money either.
- 3:08So I asked Grok. I put in a bunch of different supplements. I said,
- 3:12here's the list of ingredients.
- 3:14Here are all the micronutrients. Here's the cost.
- 3:17And I had to evaluate them based on my conditions. It was so helpful.
- 3:23Could I have done that myself? Yes, I could. Would it have taken more time?
- 3:28Absolutely. because each multivitamin has a huge list of micronutrients, right?
- 3:33And different amounts, different forms. I asked it to compare the forms,
- 3:38like I wanted methylated B vitamins, all of this stuff. It saved me a ton of,
- 3:44time. So using AI for your health can help you save money.
- 3:47I did ask a while ago in our Health with Hashimoto's community over on school,
- 3:52skool.com, and I asked about using AI.
- 3:56Jenna said, when I'm interested in a specific supplement, I asked ChatGPT,
- 4:00what are the top brands and how does it help someone with Hashimoto's?
- 4:04I also had AI review my lab values and help me write a letter to my doctor to
- 4:10ask for a referral to a specialist.
- 4:12That is an awesome use. One of my friends tracks her macros with the help of ChatGPT.
- 4:18Another person in our community said, I have asked ChatGPT to create a meal
- 4:23plan for me and tweak it for my tastes.
- 4:25One of my other friends, she had a medical emergency.
- 4:30A very rare thing happened and she was having debilitating pain and she, with all of that pain.
- 4:37She couldn't think clearly. So she used ChatGPT to track all of her symptoms
- 4:42and to ask what it might be.
- 4:45And it did. ChatGPT did a really good job. And it told her a specific phrase
- 4:50that she had mentioned that she should tell the ER.
- 4:53And the ER doctor later told my friend Kristen, it was because you said this
- 4:58single sentence that I knew what to look for.
- 5:00So in that case, she was not using ChatGPT to be her doctor.
- 5:04She was using it to track her symptoms and to give good questions to her medical
- 5:10team and also to give them the information that they would feel is pertinent.
- 5:15She wanted to take out all of the emotion out of her symptoms and she wanted
- 5:19to just give them the facts in the most helpful way.
- 5:22So AI is a great tool for your health. So here are six different ways that you
- 5:28might want to ask AI to help you with your health, specifically with your immune
- 5:33system and your thyroid, Hashimoto's.
- 5:36Number one, lab value analysis.
- 5:39So Hashimoto's requires regular thyroid lab monitoring.
- 5:42You know that, right? It might be every three months for you.
- 5:45It might be every six months. It might be every year. Right.
- 5:48Every so often, you are going to go get your labs done.
- 5:52I do have numerous episodes on what your different lab values mean,
- 5:56what you might want to do in response to them, but plugging them into AI is super fast.
- 6:02So a script, again, this is going to be on the blog, so you can copy and paste,
- 6:05a script that you might want to use when you're sharing your screenshot of your
- 6:09lab results would be this.
- 6:10I'm sharing a screenshot of my recent lab results, including reference ranges.
- 6:15Please interpret them for me using functional medicine ranges.
- 6:19Especially for thyroid labs.
- 6:21Explain the results in simple terms. Please highlight any abnormal or borderline
- 6:25values and what they might mean and suggest questions to ask my doctor.
- 6:30So there's a couple things that I did in that script. Number one,
- 6:33I said that it was going to be a screenshot.
- 6:35Like I'm not asking you to type everything, but thankfully the AI models can read the screenshots.
- 6:40I'm also suggesting that you're using functional medicine ranges because they
- 6:45have more narrow results.
- 6:47We want to use the functional medicine ranges, not the standard broken Western
- 6:52medical ranges because they're based on a sick population.
- 6:57So the upper and lowers can often be out of what you want for ideal, right?
- 7:03And then you're also giving it clear goals. You're asking for simple explanations.
- 7:08You're asking it to flag abnormal or borderline things, and then you're providing
- 7:12a very clear request for questions for your doctor.
- 7:16Are you going to use all of these questions for your doctor? Maybe, maybe not.
- 7:20Probably not. But it's giving you a starting point. It just makes things easier for you.
- 7:26Again, AI is not a replacement for your doctor, but it can help you understand
- 7:30your labs. It can help you track your symptoms.
- 7:32It can help prepare better questions so you feel more confident
- 7:36in managing your overall health. So you've looked at your labs.
- 7:39What's something else that you can do with AI?
- 7:41You can ask it to help you with your medication information.
- 7:44Maybe you're going to ask it, you know, to explain levothyroxine if you're taking that.
- 7:50Or maybe you're taking LDN or you're about to start it and you want to know
- 7:53a little bit more about that.
- 7:54Of course, episode 129 is all about LDN.
- 7:58It's an interview with pharmacist Steve Anderson.
- 8:01I find that particular episode to be so helpful.
- 8:05So helpful. Absolutely go listen to that one if you have not already.
- 8:09I feel like it is one of the top episodes that anybody should listen to if they're
- 8:13trying to catch up on the Health with Hashimoto's podcast.
- 8:16So you can ask about medical information.
- 8:19And here is a script for that one. You might say something like,
- 8:22hey, I'd like information about my medications to better understand my treatment.
- 8:26Here are the details. And then you're going to list your medications in your
- 8:29supplements along with their doses and how many times a day you take them.
- 8:33And maybe when you take them, like levothyroxine, you're going to take first
- 8:37thing in the morning, at least 30 minutes before you have any calories or coffee.
- 8:41You want to make sure that you're taking that on an empty stomach.
- 8:44So you're going to tell them all of that, tell it all of that.
- 8:47And then you're going to tell AI.
- 8:49Explain what each medication does, its side effects and how it's typically used,
- 8:53highlight any precautions I need to know about, and suggest questions to ask
- 8:58my doctor about these medications.
- 8:59And again, you're taking the medications. And when you got them,
- 9:02especially if they're prescription medications, you probably talked to the pharmacist.
- 9:06So you're going to be able to disregard most of the questions.
- 9:09But as you read through them, I mean, it only takes AI like,
- 9:12you know, less than one second or two seconds to pop up all of those questions.
- 9:16So you're going to read through them. And you're like, okay,
- 9:18I don't need to ask those.
- 9:19But this one out of the 10, that one I'm actually interested in.
- 9:23So that I'm going to ask the doctor.
- 9:25This is a great way to get more personalized information from your doctor without
- 9:32wasting time because, I mean, we all know a doctor or nurse practitioner,
- 9:35they do not have a lot of time to spend with you.
- 9:38A third way that you can use AI in your tools for your health is symptom tracking and analysis.
- 9:45Now, AI is just a robot. It is very good at looking at data.
- 9:50So if you're giving it your symptoms, and I understand it's not private.
- 9:56It's just not. There's no expectation of privacy when you're using AI.
- 10:00Some of the AIs are a bit more private than others. So maybe you're not comfortable
- 10:05with this. I am not saying that you should do all of these.
- 10:08Do what is comfortable for you and what is helpful for you.
- 10:11I don't mind telling a robot that I am feeling more tired this month.
- 10:17And then it'll tell me, oh, it's fall.
- 10:20And that's very common. I mean, I'm guessing that's what it would tell me.
- 10:24I have an episode last year, I think, about the October slide.
- 10:28Very common in autoimmune things that in the fall, at the change of season,
- 10:32when things are getting colder, people with autoimmune conditions often have
- 10:36a flare-up of their symptoms.
- 10:38So maybe I'm not remembering that, or maybe I didn't know that in the first place.
- 10:42Like, why am I so tired? Why is my fatigue so much worse in October and November?
- 10:49And maybe I'm using AI to track that, and hopefully it will come up and tell me that.
- 10:54So how can you use AI to track your symptoms?
- 10:58Great question. Again, the more detailed information you give it,
- 11:02the better the output would be.
- 11:04So you can describe your symptoms, your frequency, severity,
- 11:07timing, medical history, lifestyle.
- 11:11You can ask, I always do this, ask AI to ask you for more information when it would be helpful.
- 11:18Say, what other questions do you have? I love that question to AI.
- 11:22What other questions do you have before you get started, before we get started?
- 11:26And it'll tell you, it'll give you a list of questions or it'll say,
- 11:29I don't, I have no further questions. Let's get started. Perfect.
- 11:32So here is a script for tracking your symptoms.
- 11:37I have blank Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and I want to track my symptoms over time.
- 11:42Please help me organize the following information.
- 11:45Symptoms, when they occur, related lifestyle factors, and any medications or
- 11:49supplements I'm currently taking.
- 11:51Now you're going to give the AI the answers to those. So symptoms I'm experiencing,
- 11:57you're going to list them off.
- 11:58When they occur, if you know that, you're going to put that in.
- 12:01And then you're going to say, I would like you to, number one,
- 12:04identify possible patterns or triggers.
- 12:06Number two, suggest what I should keep monitoring.
- 12:09Number three, highlight any red flags that may need a doctor's attention.
- 12:13And number four, summarize the data in a way that's easy to review before appointments.
- 12:18Please ask if you need more details. Now, a symptom tracker is going to be a
- 12:23thread or a message that you're going to probably keep coming back to.
- 12:27And on most of the AI models, you
- 12:31can keep track of your conversations and some
- 12:34of them you can even pin to the top it depends on what platform you're using
- 12:38and sometimes it depends on if you have the free version or the paid version
- 12:41but if you're tracking your symptoms that's probably something that you're going
- 12:44to want to come back to and you know add more details every every once in a
- 12:49while or a couple times a day whenever you're noticing that you are having symptoms.
- 12:54A fourth way you can use AI to help you with your health is to look for drug
- 12:58and supplement interactions.
- 13:00Now, some of these we know and some of them we don't. We don't know what we don't know, right?
- 13:04And so AI can help you with that. So one thing that you may or may not know
- 13:09is that you can't take thyroid medications with calcium.
- 13:14They interfere, the calcium interferes with the absorption.
- 13:17And that's one simple thing that you might not have known. And maybe when you
- 13:22tell AI, hey, I take levothyroxine and I also take calcium every day.
- 13:26And then the AI is going to say, oh, by the way, don't take those together because
- 13:30they have an interaction or, you know, contraindicated together.
- 13:34An example script for this one is going to be super basic. I'd like to check
- 13:38for potential interactions between my medications and my supplements.
- 13:41Here's the information. Do you have any questions before we begin? That's it. So simple.
- 13:46So you're just going to ask that and then you're going to give it a list of
- 13:49your medications and your supplements.
- 13:50And then, you know, a couple of seconds later, the AI is going to tell you any
- 13:55potential interactions or what you should know.
- 13:58All right, number, what are we on? Five? I think we're on five.
- 14:01How about appointment preparation? We've been kind of doing this one throughout
- 14:04because a lot of the scripts tell the AI to suggest questions to ask at a future medical appointment.
- 14:12But you can also do an AI session specifically to prepare for your next nurse
- 14:18practitioner appointment or doctor appointment or endocrinologist appointment, whatever, right?
- 14:23And this one can be broad or general. Perhaps you've been listening to the Health
- 14:28of Hashimoto's podcast.
- 14:29You have listened to all 160, 170 episodes.
- 14:34You're like, okay, I have these questions that I really want to ask.
- 14:38And you're going to have AI rank them based on your symptoms.
- 14:42And hey, by the way, did you know that I have a 10 questions to ask your doctor PDF?
- 14:47If you don't have that already, I will link that down in the show note.
- 14:51I'll put it in the blog post too.
- 14:53It is free, and the first couple pages tell you about why each question is important
- 14:58and what you might want to do with the answers.
- 15:01And then the final page is printable, so you can actually just take that page
- 15:04right with you to the doctor, and you can jot your notes, or you can just remember
- 15:09what questions you're having.
- 15:10But we're talking about AI, but also go get that PDF.
- 15:14So when you're preparing for your appointment, maybe you're curious about what
- 15:18other questions you could be asking. So how can you, or what's a script that
- 15:23you could use? You could say, hey, I am preparing.
- 15:26I almost always say hi to my AIs when I am starting the conversation. Almost always.
- 15:31I'm also polite and I use please and thank you. Do I need to?
- 15:34I don't know, but I just do.
- 15:36So I say, hi, I'm preparing for a doctor's appointment and I need help organizing
- 15:40my thoughts. Here's the information.
- 15:41Here's the reason for my visit. Here are my current symptoms.
- 15:45My recent labs or tests. Again, you can just put in a screenshot of that if you want.
- 15:50And that would be pertinent if you're getting your labs done,
- 15:54not through the doctor that you're seeing.
- 15:56Because if your doctor ordered the labs, then they have them right there.
- 16:00This would be if they're from outside.
- 16:01Or you can just give it to AI no matter what, because maybe it's looking for
- 16:06those functional medicine ranges, and it's going to give you a specific question to ask.
- 16:09Anyway, you're also going to tell it what medications and supplements you're
- 16:13taking, and then give it some context.
- 16:16And then you're going to say this. Suggest specific questions to ask my doctor
- 16:20based on my symptoms, labs, or medications.
- 16:23Highlight topics to prioritize during the visit. Please clarify if you need more information.
- 16:30Again, I always give AI a chance to ask for more information before I set it
- 16:36going for that conversation.
- 16:39All right, and the sixth way that you might want to use AI as a tool to help
- 16:42you in your health is nutrition planning.
- 16:46Like we all know there's so much diet advice out there, right?
- 16:49And maybe you've tried different things.
- 16:51So I have asked AI to give me 10 different meal plans that are all gluten-free and kid-friendly.
- 16:57I have asked AI after I interviewed Sally K.
- 17:01Norton on the podcast about oxalates. I asked AI to give me some low oxalate
- 17:08meal recommendations because my brain was.
- 17:13I was overwhelmed and no idea where to start. Maybe you felt the same way after
- 17:17that episode. I know I got a lot of feedback after that one.
- 17:19AI was helpful. And so maybe AI can be used by you for your diet.
- 17:25And again, of course, remember that AI is not replacing your doctor or nutritionist, but it is a tool.
- 17:32It can help you understand your health better. It can help you track your symptoms.
- 17:38It can prepare better questions. It is a tool. It's not a replacement for a
- 17:42real person. It is a tool.
- 17:44And so when you're using it for your diet, I already told you a couple of the ways that I've used it.
- 17:50Like, give me 10 meal ideas for this or prepare a meal plan for the next seven days.
- 17:57Sometimes I have no idea what to make. So I will tell AI I have X,
- 18:00Y, and Z ingredients. What can I make? And it'll give me some ideas.
- 18:04The other day I had searched all over the internet so many times to find a recipe
- 18:09for sloppy joes using garden fresh tomatoes. Couldn't come up with one.
- 18:12Asked AI and boom, there was a recipe.
- 18:15All my family liked it. It was delicious. So when it comes to meal planning
- 18:19and diet stuff, there's no one script that I have for you because you can use
- 18:23it in so many different ways.
- 18:24Like I said at the beginning of the episode, one of my friends uses it to track her macros.
- 18:28I have never done that, but I'm sure it'd be great because AI uses data. It's data-driven.
- 18:35Does it get it wrong sometimes? Yes. Does AI hallucinate sometimes?
- 18:39Absolutely. Always double-check your facts. Always double-check its recommendations.
- 18:44Always, always, because it does hallucinate. It does make things up.
- 18:49AI is a tool. It is a very powerful tool, and it often is super, super insightful.
- 18:55But AI is not a replacement for a real person.
- 18:59AI is a tool that can help you understand your labs, track your symptoms,
- 19:02and prepare better questions. It can help you manage your overall health.
- 19:06But AI is not a replacement for a real person.
- 19:09AI is not a replacement for thinking for yourself.
- 19:13I would love to hear how you are or will or have used AI.
- 19:17Come over to our Health with Hashimoto's community over on school.com and let's chat about it.
- 19:22This podcast is for informational and educational purposes only.
- 19:26Please discuss any changes with your trusted healthcare provider.
