- 2:43Speaker 5: You gotta regatta, You gotta regatta.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Good morning, as they say, here we go, You've already
- 2:47Speaker 2: been out at about this morning. You were on the
- 2:50Speaker 2: V one hundred Morning Show, I think with Stephen Jenny
- 2:53Speaker 2: on the boat.
- 2:54Speaker 4: How was that?
- 2:54Speaker 5: It was great. We do it every year. We have
- 2:56Speaker 5: such a good time. We like to sit by Boson
- 2:59Speaker 5: the dog, the dog of the Stern Wheel, and it
- 3:02Speaker 5: was great. It's always a wonderful way to kick off
- 3:05Speaker 5: our first day of our what I like to call
- 3:08Speaker 5: it's our super Bowl. I mean, you know me, I'm
- 3:11Speaker 5: a five am or so, I get up really early, stretch,
- 3:14Speaker 5: try to work out a little bit. This morning, I
- 3:16Speaker 5: just rolled out quickly, showered off and got down there
- 3:20Speaker 5: because last night USA won, by the way, we had
- 3:24Speaker 5: a big screen on the stage, and so I wanted
- 3:26Speaker 5: to make sure that I was there for that and
- 3:28Speaker 5: high five and the kiddos who were out probably past
- 3:31Speaker 5: their bedtime certainly passed as you well know, Dave, my bedtime,
- 3:34Speaker 5: but it's important. It was important to connect our vendors
- 3:37Speaker 5: where they are. All of our Sternwheel captains were there
- 3:39Speaker 5: as well. Our stage and sound crew were, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 5: connecting all of the all of the wires and things
- 3:47Speaker 5: that they need to do to build this amazing, amazing stage,
- 3:51Speaker 5: and just a it was a good time. It's a
- 3:54Speaker 5: good time, and it starts today.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know this, the planning for events like
- 3:59Speaker 2: this goes year round.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Well it has to.
- 4:02Speaker 2: It starts, you know, effectively Monday morning. You'll start planning
- 4:06Speaker 2: next year, or you'll probably already planning.
- 4:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Actually, it's so funny. I have my operations manual in
- 4:11Speaker 5: the car. If you seen me walking around with a
- 4:13Speaker 5: three ring binder, that's what it is. Because every year,
- 4:16Speaker 5: and you know, I had something pop up yesterday. I
- 4:18Speaker 5: won't get into the details, we won't have time to
- 4:19Speaker 5: talk about it all. But I saw something yesterday and
- 4:22Speaker 5: I said, ooh, we need to we need to tweak that,
- 4:24Speaker 5: we need to fix that. And somebody said, well, this
- 4:26Speaker 5: is what we did last year. I was like, we did.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Oh gosh, we need to We need to fix that
- 4:31Speaker 5: for the year to come. So there is always even
- 4:33Speaker 5: after five years of going through we call it a picklist, right, Hey,
- 4:38Speaker 5: what do we do?
- 4:38Speaker 7: Right?
- 4:38Speaker 5: What do we do? What are the things we need
- 4:40Speaker 5: to improve upon? Every year it comes about and so
- 4:43Speaker 5: we actually start this week planning for next year. Okay,
- 4:47Speaker 5: we need to do this next year. We don't need
- 4:48Speaker 5: to do this year. And you know, everything changes every year,
- 4:52Speaker 5: if it's the weather or if it's the bands or
- 4:54Speaker 5: it's the timing, you know, case in point, it's the
- 4:58Speaker 5: hottest regatta we will have had in the past five years.
- 5:01Speaker 5: What are the accommodations we need to make. We need
- 5:03Speaker 5: to add more water stations, we need to add more
- 5:06Speaker 5: cooling stations. We need to see if Melissa, Ethige and
- 5:10Speaker 5: Win and Jude could push back their time to start.
- 5:13Speaker 4: So there probably wasn't very much argument from them, and
- 5:15Speaker 4: there really wasn't.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Us to you is I will tell you you know,
- 5:18Speaker 5: this hasn't been my world. This is your world. I
- 5:20Speaker 5: don't know anything about it, but just the small periphery
- 5:23Speaker 5: that I am on and dealing with these bands and
- 5:26Speaker 5: folks has been It's been a learning experience for me.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Thank goodness. We've got really talented and great people who
- 5:33Speaker 5: are consulting us on this, who do this for a living.
- 5:37Speaker 5: But they said, yeah, because that sun, as everybody knows,
- 5:40Speaker 5: is right on that stage and to have it just
- 5:43Speaker 5: just cool down a few tempts and get that breeze
- 5:45Speaker 5: going when the sun goes down makes a world of difference,
- 5:49Speaker 5: I can promise well.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And for performers, they're under the they have the lights
- 5:52Speaker 2: on them, so whatever the temperature is that temperature on
- 5:55Speaker 2: the stage is about twenty degrees the guitar on plus
- 5:59Speaker 2: there's a lot of leve electricity, you know, being being
- 6:02Speaker 2: dot there, and performers don't have the luxury because everybody's
- 6:06Speaker 2: taking pictures of them. Oh my god, look how this
- 6:08Speaker 2: person looked. You know, they don't have the luxury of
- 6:10Speaker 2: dressing down so to speak, like like most of us,
- 6:13Speaker 2: and they're going to be in leather outfits.
- 6:15Speaker 5: And their ponality up. You got to go on advance
- 6:18Speaker 5: and jump there.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, sure. I want to run down the list
- 6:21Speaker 4: of events today.
- 6:21Speaker 2: By the way, if you go over to the regatta
- 6:24Speaker 2: pages the website City of Charleston, our pages have all
- 6:27Speaker 2: got all of this stuff on there. So I'm not
- 6:28Speaker 2: going to cover it all throughout the entire regod. I
- 6:31Speaker 2: just want to kind of cover today. The Valley Jim
- 6:34Speaker 2: sternwheel rides start at ten this morning. And one of
- 6:37Speaker 2: the cool things I would definitely want to check out
- 6:40Speaker 2: is the regatta through the year's maybe zhibit at four
- 6:43Speaker 2: points by Sheridan tell us about that.
- 6:45Speaker 5: You know what, several years back when I announced everybody
- 6:49Speaker 5: that I was going to bring back the Charleston s
- 6:51Speaker 5: Cernomo Regatta. This is hand to the heavens. Every week
- 6:55Speaker 5: I would get things sent to my office. Hey, Amy,
- 6:59Speaker 5: my mom had this hand stitched skirt with stern wheelers
- 7:03Speaker 5: on the side. If thanks for bringing the regatta back.
- 7:06Speaker 5: I don't know if there's anything to do with this,
- 7:07Speaker 5: but here you go. And so I started to collect
- 7:10Speaker 5: and we have a catalog and now we have you
- 7:13Speaker 5: know this. I call it the Museum of past and
- 7:17Speaker 5: present things. This is what is so important, and please
- 7:21Speaker 5: come by. It's at the four points. We're opening up
- 7:23Speaker 5: at noon today, it's noon to five. Please come by.
- 7:25Speaker 5: It's going to be open throughout the regatta. This is
- 7:28Speaker 5: what is so special about. Here's my mom's hand woven
- 7:31Speaker 5: basket with you know, hand painted stern wheels on it.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Here's the T shirt from nineteen blah blah blah. Here's
- 7:37Speaker 5: the pens. Here's the news articles. Here's the videotape of
- 7:41Speaker 5: all the pageant queens. Here's the people held on to
- 7:44Speaker 5: this because it was so important to them. So if
- 7:47Speaker 5: you if you weren't here, if you weren't if you
- 7:50Speaker 5: didn't really understand, like my kids, what did it mean
- 7:52Speaker 5: to you back then? Come to come to the museum,
- 7:56Speaker 5: come and check out all of the wonderful things that
- 7:59Speaker 5: people have kept. And by the way, we keep adding
- 8:01Speaker 5: to it. And here's my caught action. If you have
- 8:04Speaker 5: something that you don't mind sharing with the community, because
- 8:07Speaker 5: by the way, everything is cataloged. Everything is going to
- 8:10Speaker 5: be housed here in the City of Charleston and showcased
- 8:14Speaker 5: during the regatta. We'd love to as we move forward,
- 8:17Speaker 5: we have some ideas about some places and spaces and
- 8:20Speaker 5: City Hall and some of our city service buildings that
- 8:23Speaker 5: we can house this permanently. People love it. People love it.
- 8:28Speaker 5: In the first thing, I was interviewed this morning by
- 8:30Speaker 5: a local television station and they said, what is so
- 8:32Speaker 5: special about this? I said, you sit here for five
- 8:34Speaker 5: minutes and watch people come in. The first thing they say, Dave,
- 8:37Speaker 5: is oh I remember phill in the blank.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Everybody's memory and it's not always going to be who
- 8:44Speaker 2: was in concert.
- 8:45Speaker 4: It's not all it's just it's that little it's so.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Don't you remember the year that so and so won
- 8:50Speaker 5: the Stern Roll Race. It's all man his engine blue,
- 8:52Speaker 5: and it's it's crazy.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Get Brian to tell you the story of his friend
- 8:57Speaker 2: who is a Regatta baby. He started killing it. He
- 9:00Speaker 2: started telling that story on the air of the day
- 9:02Speaker 2: and I was like, okay, all right, that's enough.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I don't need to know it.
- 9:04Speaker 2: But he yeah, he's a we Gotta baby. I'll be
- 9:06Speaker 2: if you run into Brian. Let Brian Hughes tell the story.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Well, it's Josh and you know, Josh is on our
- 9:12Speaker 5: Regotta Commission. I want to know why because he builds
- 9:15Speaker 5: stern whalers. He knows it. He literally grew up on
- 9:18Speaker 5: the river. And so to have amazing, amazing folks like
- 9:22Speaker 5: Joshcott be a part of our committee because, by the way,
- 9:26Speaker 5: this isn't this is city.
- 9:28Speaker 6: You know.
- 9:28Speaker 5: City is the backbone of it, for sure, but it's
- 9:30Speaker 5: the Regatta Commission and the Regatta commissioners who really do
- 9:34Speaker 5: it and make it happen. So that's number one and
- 9:37Speaker 5: number two, thank you so much to our sponsors. We
- 9:41Speaker 5: couldn't afford to do this, by the way, City Charleston
- 9:44Speaker 5: can't afford to do something like this. It is because
- 9:46Speaker 5: of not only the support that we get from you
- 9:49Speaker 5: all here at Metro News and WHS Radio, we get
- 9:55Speaker 5: so much support from in Covia, WU Medicine Moses. And
- 10:01Speaker 5: by the way, this is from you know, tens of
- 10:04Speaker 5: thousands of dollars to a couple of bucks. And by
- 10:07Speaker 5: the way, when I'm in a couple bucks, when you
- 10:08Speaker 5: come down and support our vendors, you're given the regatta.
- 10:11Speaker 5: You're giving folks a couple of bucks. Not only are
- 10:14Speaker 5: you making for the year. And our vendors will tell
- 10:17Speaker 5: you this. Coming to this four day event helps me
- 10:20Speaker 5: through their period and a paragraph. Some have said to me,
- 10:22Speaker 5: this is really all I need to do this year.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Of course I do other you know, other events, so
- 10:28Speaker 5: it's so it's so special. Let me also give knowledge
- 10:31Speaker 5: to this because there hasn't been too much to really
- 10:35Speaker 5: wow me and surprise me, except for the call that
- 10:37Speaker 5: I got that said, Hi, we're a couple of Charleston families,
- 10:41Speaker 5: a couple of West Virginia families, and we want to
- 10:44Speaker 5: make this so special this year, for the two fiftieth
- 10:47Speaker 5: we are going to take our family money one hundred
- 10:50Speaker 5: thousand dollars and get to your fireworks displays, dow shows,
- 10:56Speaker 5: by the way, Magic Island had to and at the
- 10:59Speaker 5: Capitol anonymous owners because they don't by the way, they
- 11:03Speaker 5: don't want their They really don't want it, and have
- 11:05Speaker 5: said you may not tell people who we are, but
- 11:09Speaker 5: we love the regatta, we love what is going on
- 11:12Speaker 5: and we want all of our families. If you're in
- 11:14Speaker 5: the regatta footprint, man, you got a good spot. But
- 11:17Speaker 5: if you got it, which is what we booth and
- 11:19Speaker 5: I used to do with the boys when they were little,
- 11:20Speaker 5: for fireworks. And I know every parent or grandparent listening,
- 11:23Speaker 5: I know what you do. You get everybody ready for bed,
- 11:25Speaker 5: You put their jammis on, you put them in the car,
- 11:27Speaker 5: you take the sippy cups down, you watch the show
- 11:30Speaker 5: on the way back home, they fall asleep, You slide
- 11:32Speaker 5: them into bed. Right, everybody, everybody listening has done that
- 11:35Speaker 5: with a small person. You can do it from the
- 11:37Speaker 5: west side, the east end. You don't have to be
- 11:39Speaker 5: in that Just head dad regatta footprint anymore. And so
- 11:43Speaker 5: thank you to the families. Yes, the city put in
- 11:45Speaker 5: a little bit of money for our fireworks display. Yes
- 11:48Speaker 5: the state did as well, but this family, this anonymous family,
- 11:52Speaker 5: families deserve this recognition. And think about that. They didn't
- 11:57Speaker 5: have to do this. They could spend their money elsewhere,
- 12:00Speaker 5: but they said, no, this is really important. We want
- 12:02Speaker 5: to celebrate and so it's very special for us as well.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Also, Mary Amy should a good one. Just a couple
- 12:06Speaker 4: of quick reminders.
- 12:07Speaker 2: West Banco Family Zone opens at noon today, Carnival starts
- 12:10Speaker 2: at three and had ed Riverfront Park. And keep in
- 12:14Speaker 2: mind if you coming for the concert for Melissa Ethridge
- 12:16Speaker 2: and well, I know that the time has been changed,
- 12:19Speaker 2: you know, I mean a couple of days ago we
- 12:20Speaker 2: announced it.
- 12:21Speaker 5: That's right and pushing it back. And by the way,
- 12:23Speaker 5: they're delighted. We're delighted. Get that sun to go down,
- 12:25Speaker 5: cooler breeze. And let me also say thank you. You
- 12:28Speaker 5: know we're talking about sponsors. Thanks West Banco, because the
- 12:31Speaker 5: other thing we said when I turned to Jane Bostic
- 12:33Speaker 5: at Senior Staff many years ago, Hey we want to
- 12:36Speaker 5: bring back regatta. If we're going to bring it back,
- 12:38Speaker 5: we're going to bring it back for the littles, for
- 12:40Speaker 5: our kiddos. Thank you West Banco. You go to City
- 12:42Speaker 5: Center at Slack Plaza any day during regatta. They are
- 12:45Speaker 5: going to have the time of their lives. Guess what
- 12:47Speaker 5: dave for free? For free because times are tight, families,
- 12:53Speaker 5: families need a little bit of help. You want to
- 12:55Speaker 5: come down, you want to spend a great time for
- 12:57Speaker 5: Free City Center at Slack Plaza. It's absolute lutely amazing.
- 13:01Speaker 5: We're so thankful for so many people. Let me give
- 13:03Speaker 5: a shout out to Audrey Kahn and Jeff Pierson. It's
- 13:06Speaker 5: not just you know, Jane is you know, I say
- 13:08Speaker 5: this is my super Bowl and Jane is my quarterback,
- 13:11Speaker 5: but you know, you know Tina and Matthew, and Andrew
- 13:14Speaker 5: and Jeff Pearson and Audrey Kahn, and I mean the
- 13:18Speaker 5: so many volunteers and the cv B pitches in it,
- 13:22Speaker 5: in Adam Harris and everybody who helps with all of
- 13:25Speaker 5: our wonderful Wiener dog and funeral parade and the Slambury
- 13:29Speaker 5: Stern will Slamberree. It is a true community effort. People
- 13:35Speaker 5: put their time, their luck. We have volunteers, by the way,
- 13:38Speaker 5: who take off work, who put in their vacation time
- 13:42Speaker 5: to be volunteers for the regatta. Thank you, Sammy Magner.
- 13:46Speaker 5: It's that's what they do because they love it and
- 13:48Speaker 5: they love folks. Here are Stern Wheelers who they take
- 13:52Speaker 5: time up. By the way, those folks work. Most of
- 13:54Speaker 5: those folks work, and they take time off to be
- 13:57Speaker 5: with us and to celebrate and so yeah, am I
- 14:01Speaker 5: getting fear of our sleeps? And this old lady normally
- 14:03Speaker 5: expects yes, But I love it. It is so incredibly
- 14:07Speaker 5: difficult to get up at five to go bet at
- 14:09Speaker 5: two and start it all over again, but we absolutely
- 14:12Speaker 5: love it. And I promise you we do this for you.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Charles and Mary mischield a good one and again if
- 14:17Speaker 2: you want a complete list, and we just covered what's
- 14:19Speaker 2: going on today, the number of places for God to
- 14:22Speaker 2: social media. We got a website. It is all there,
- 14:24Speaker 2: so go and check it out. We will take a
- 14:26Speaker 2: break and we'll come back after this. Thank you a
- 14:29Speaker 2: lot Meyer. We're going to head to Hurricane when we
- 14:31Speaker 2: come back. At the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

- 17:40Speaker 1: How are you doing.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I'm doing fine and happy two fifty to both of you.
- 17:44Speaker 12: Absolutely, you know. I love America and I love I'm
- 17:47Speaker 12: looking so forward to this celebration Hurricane and all the
- 17:50Speaker 12: celebrations are going all over the country.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Tell us what's going on in Hurricane, because you guys
- 17:54Speaker 2: are going all out. Just run it down for us.
- 17:57Speaker 7: YEP.
- 17:57Speaker 12: So the parade eight is the first thing. It starts
- 18:01Speaker 12: at three o'clock on Main Street, and we probably it
- 18:04Speaker 12: may be the biggest Independence Day parade we've ever seen
- 18:07Speaker 12: because we have a lot of entries.
- 18:09Speaker 7: It's going to be wonderful.
- 18:11Speaker 12: But before the parade, going backwards, order for a second.
- 18:14Speaker 12: At two forty five, my friend Mitch Fitzgerald, he's a
- 18:17Speaker 12: Hurrican guy, he's a huge man. He's going to attempt
- 18:21Speaker 12: to pull a forty thousand pound fire truck down Main Street.
- 18:24Speaker 12: And that will be at two forty five. Now, Dave,
- 18:26Speaker 12: I tried to do it myself. They harnessed me up
- 18:28Speaker 12: and wrote me up, and I thought I was gonna
- 18:30Speaker 12: have a stroke.
- 18:31Speaker 4: So what happened?
- 18:33Speaker 7: So you tried?
- 18:34Speaker 4: What about a manda? Do you think what you do it?
- 18:37Speaker 1: No?
- 18:37Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 18:38Speaker 6: I didn't even try. But the paride is.
- 18:41Speaker 12: Going to be absolutely unbelievable this year. But then from
- 18:45Speaker 12: four to ten is the free celebration. I'm gonna let
- 18:48Speaker 12: a man to run that down for you.
- 18:50Speaker 13: Yeah, so we have a full evening of all the
- 18:52Speaker 13: fun things. Of course, admission is free. Free treats like
- 18:55Speaker 13: ice cream, watermelon, stoke cones, cotton, candy, inflatables, water slides,
- 19:02Speaker 13: petting to anything you can imagine.
- 19:05Speaker 12: Yard games.
- 19:06Speaker 13: But then entertainment at five o'clock. We have an American
- 19:11Speaker 13: Songbooks show, very family, family and kid friendly show at
- 19:15Speaker 13: five o'clock. They're going to sing songs that span America's history,
- 19:20Speaker 13: so that will be fun. And then of course Rewind
- 19:23Speaker 13: the Walkman as our headlining act at eight fifteen, and
- 19:26Speaker 13: we're very excited to have them back this year.
- 19:28Speaker 4: They're great. I have worked shows. Yeah they're good.
- 19:32Speaker 12: Yeah, Rewind the Walkman. I had to jump in on them.
- 19:34Speaker 12: They are phenomenal. We immediately signed them last year after
- 19:38Speaker 12: they were here. All the crowds that please get them
- 19:40Speaker 12: again again again and we sign them immediately.
- 19:42Speaker 8: They're that good.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah, they're fantastic and all of this. I do want
- 19:46Speaker 2: to make sure that everybody understand this is all happening
- 19:48Speaker 2: on the actual fourth of July, you know, I want
- 19:49Speaker 2: to I want to throw that out there.
- 19:51Speaker 4: So all right, so what else? Keep going? What else?
- 19:53Speaker 4: We got?
- 19:54Speaker 12: So fireworks? Our fireworks are going to be unbelievable this year,
- 19:59Speaker 12: by far, the largest fireworks that we've ever seen.
- 20:04Speaker 6: We have shells.
- 20:06Speaker 12: A lot of people do three, four, five and six
- 20:08Speaker 12: inch firework shells, which are awesome. We usually add in
- 20:11Speaker 12: some eight tens and twelves, which a lot of people
- 20:14Speaker 12: don't do. But they're just really, really really big huge.
- 20:18Speaker 12: This year, we've got a couple sixteen inch shells fifty
- 20:21Speaker 12: but actually they are fifty four pounds and they are massive.
- 20:25Speaker 12: We don't know of anybody else that's ever ever launched
- 20:28Speaker 12: these in the state. Maybe there has.
- 20:30Speaker 7: Been, I don't know.
- 20:31Speaker 12: I can't find anybody. These things are massive, huge shells.
- 20:35Speaker 12: So it's gonna be it's gonna be unbelievable, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 12: And real quick, David, if we got just a minute
- 20:42Speaker 12: back to the celebration, we do have a hot dog
- 20:44Speaker 12: eating contest. I can't believe we both left that out.
- 20:48Speaker 12: That's my favorite thing, and I would love I've told
- 20:50Speaker 12: you this for years. I would love to see you
- 20:52Speaker 12: enter one year. I want you in it. We're full
- 20:54Speaker 12: this year, but I really want you to enter.
- 20:57Speaker 14: It one year.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Eating.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I love hot dogs and I love Farley's hot dogs,
- 21:01Speaker 2: but I am not a competitive eater, Mayor. I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 2: you know, and here's the thing, and you and I
- 21:06Speaker 2: have talked about this before. You know, I got a
- 21:09Speaker 2: chance to mc a hot dog eating one contest one
- 21:13Speaker 2: year when I was working at another radio station. And
- 21:15Speaker 2: you see this on TV, you see Joey chestnutting all
- 21:18Speaker 2: these guys, and you think anybody could do that. It
- 21:21Speaker 2: is not as easy as it looks. The I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 2: and the people that do know these contests around here,
- 21:26Speaker 2: they're not most of them don't do this professionally. So's
- 21:30Speaker 2: it's a whole lot harder that somebody says, oh, I
- 21:31Speaker 2: could eat four or five hot dogs. Yeah, that's not
- 21:33Speaker 2: even that's not even the beginning point on what you
- 21:36Speaker 2: got to do to do this, mayor.
- 21:38Speaker 12: No, it's it's tough and you have five minutes to
- 21:40Speaker 12: as me as you can. Last year the winner eight fifteen,
- 21:42Speaker 12: I believe, And you know, we actually because we don't
- 21:45Speaker 12: want puke everywhere. Every so often there's a puke er,
- 21:47Speaker 12: we give them a puke bucket.
- 21:48Speaker 6: So if they puke it head and.
- 21:50Speaker 12: A lot of contests, if they puke it, they're out
- 21:53Speaker 12: in our contest. As long as they drink it back,
- 21:55Speaker 12: they're still in. So we we as long as it's
- 21:58Speaker 12: a as long as it's all in in five minutes,
- 22:00Speaker 12: we don't care how it gets in. They can dip
- 22:02Speaker 12: it in water, they can drink the bucket, doesn't matter.
- 22:04Speaker 12: I want you in it, Dave.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Maybe next year, but I mean you make it sound
- 22:08Speaker 2: really appealing when you say that there's a puke bucket
- 22:11Speaker 2: there and that you can you can and you can
- 22:13Speaker 2: just start all over again.
- 22:15Speaker 4: For they as appealing as you're making it sound. Mayor
- 22:19Speaker 4: maybe next year, Okay, but.
- 22:21Speaker 13: It's fun to watch. And it starts at six point
- 22:23Speaker 13: thirty beside the main stage on the hot dog eating trailer.
- 22:26Speaker 13: So we appreciate Farley's for sponsoring that every year.
- 22:29Speaker 12: Yeah, and we'll have plenty of free water, what there
- 22:32Speaker 12: will be food trucks.
- 22:33Speaker 6: It's going to be hot.
- 22:33Speaker 12: We've got lots of shade Family Wealth Group. They're bringing
- 22:37Speaker 12: tons of canopies to go along with ours, and it's
- 22:41Speaker 12: just it's gonna be an amazing day. And real quick,
- 22:43Speaker 12: I want to give Amanda a shout out. Amanda's our
- 22:45Speaker 12: assistant sea manager. She's also she's my quarterback. I know
- 22:49Speaker 12: Amy says she had a quarterbacks. Amanda's my quarterback and
- 22:52Speaker 12: she quarterbacks this whole thing and she's amazing. So I
- 22:56Speaker 12: will give a shout out to Amanda.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Amanda from the city is awesome. I mean, any thing
- 23:00Speaker 2: that's going on in Hurricane she's right there, and she's
- 23:02Speaker 2: the one with the clipboard in hand and telling the Okay,
- 23:04Speaker 2: now you go here, and you go there and everywhere,
- 23:07Speaker 2: and she takes care of of all that stuff. And
- 23:11Speaker 2: we just want and the reason we're throwing this out there,
- 23:13Speaker 2: and again, we can't possibly do Every town does something
- 23:17Speaker 2: and we can't possibly cover them all. But I know
- 23:19Speaker 2: that you folks in I'm a little partial since it's
- 23:21Speaker 2: part of the world I live in. You guys year
- 23:24Speaker 2: round just do so many great things from Hurricane and
- 23:26Speaker 2: the surrounding areas. Whether it's a Christmas, whether it's the
- 23:30Speaker 2: food truck Fridays that you do, there's always something going
- 23:33Speaker 2: on and anybody. That's one of the sore points with me,
- 23:36Speaker 2: and people like Ashley offered a glance with the Chamber
- 23:39Speaker 2: of Commerce as people say, well, there's nothing to do
- 23:41Speaker 2: in Hurricane or Taye Valley, it's just a it's just
- 23:44Speaker 2: a bedroom community for Huntington and Charleston. No, there is
- 23:48Speaker 2: plenty going on every weekend and during the week and
- 23:52Speaker 2: Hurricane speak to that, Miss.
- 23:54Speaker 13: Amanda, absolutely, And that's the sticking point with me. Also,
- 23:59Speaker 13: anytime someone says there's nothing to do around here, I'm like,
- 24:02Speaker 13: I beg to differ. We have lots of things going on,
- 24:05Speaker 13: and Valley Park does a lot of awesome things. People
- 24:09Speaker 13: ask me why our food truck Friday is only at lunch,
- 24:11Speaker 13: as I say, well, Vally Park has night markets in
- 24:13Speaker 13: the evenings. Go there so we you know, we we
- 24:16Speaker 13: help each other out. And it's it's an awesome community
- 24:19Speaker 13: atmosphere done here all right?
- 24:21Speaker 2: Where it's the best place to People want to go
- 24:23Speaker 2: online and see the entire list of activities going on
- 24:26Speaker 2: in Hurricane.
- 24:26Speaker 13: For the fourth gast you can do Hurricane WV dot com,
- 24:30Speaker 13: but for the latest and greatest go to the Hurricane
- 24:33Speaker 13: City of Hurricane facebook page.
- 24:35Speaker 4: All right, we'll see you there.
- 24:38Speaker 12: I will be live streaming on my personal page. I'll
- 24:41Speaker 12: be live streaming the fireworks. They're going to be huge,
- 24:43Speaker 12: biggest and best we've ever seen this year, so it'll
- 24:46Speaker 12: be live streamed as well there.
- 24:48Speaker 2: And where is the I mean, with the kind of
- 24:50Speaker 2: fireworks Mayor and Amanda that you guys do there in
- 24:52Speaker 2: Hurricane you can see them from pretty much anywhere, But
- 24:54Speaker 2: where where should people They just want to gravitate toward
- 24:57Speaker 2: the toward the downtown area.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Where's the best place.
- 25:00Speaker 12: Gravitate towards the downtown area. Yeah, it's just there, pull
- 25:03Speaker 12: off side street Hurrikan Middle School. I mean I can
- 25:07Speaker 12: McDonald's Walmart. I mean, get a little bit away from

- 30:24Speaker 2: forward to that. I'll bring it now to the show.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Chuck McGill, Capitol Market, Good morning, sir, Welcome to the show.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Good morning, Dave, thank you for being here. I want
- 30:33Speaker 2: to talk about this all fired up event that you
- 30:35Speaker 2: guys are doing tomorrow.
- 30:36Speaker 6: Tell us about it, well, I mean, it's it's one
- 30:40Speaker 6: of our favorite events of the year because at centers
- 30:43Speaker 6: around young people. It's a young chefs ages ten to seventeen.
- 30:47Speaker 6: So we love seeing young people in the market and
- 30:50Speaker 6: we love seeing young future cooks that are going to
- 30:53Speaker 6: be spread them through the Canall Valley in the Charleston area,
- 30:57Speaker 6: you know, bringing us good food. So of the Neater
- 31:00Speaker 6: Events is the fifth annual event. It starts off at
- 31:02Speaker 6: noon and it's really broken down in three parts day First,
- 31:07Speaker 6: you know, I'll make some opening remarks at twelve, and
- 31:09Speaker 6: I'll hand each of the competitors a one hundred dollars
- 31:11Speaker 6: gift card to shop for ingredients at Capital Market. They'll
- 31:15Speaker 6: shop for about forty five minutes or so. Then they'll
- 31:18Speaker 6: have an hour and a half to put together their
- 31:21Speaker 6: ultimate backyard barbecue meal. And that's perfect obviously, but with
- 31:26Speaker 6: the theme this is a big event tied into the
- 31:29Speaker 6: Charleston Regatta and the four opposite sports of July weekend.
- 31:34Speaker 6: They'll prepare that barbecue meal. We've got four celebrity staffs,
- 31:37Speaker 6: little are celebrity judges that will be there. They'll take
- 31:40Speaker 6: some time to taste each of those dishes, and then
- 31:43Speaker 6: we'll we'll have some awards presentation at the end where
- 31:46Speaker 6: we'll have best overall, most creative, and best use of
- 31:49Speaker 6: local ingredients. So really excited for that event to get
- 31:52Speaker 6: called picked off at noon tomorrow at Capitol Market.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I love the concept of this, but so again, you
- 31:57Speaker 2: know the now can you still register.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Are you fulled up? As far as participants go.
- 32:02Speaker 6: We would love to find a few more. We definitely
- 32:04Speaker 6: would love to find a few more. We have enough
- 32:07Speaker 6: grills to accommodate some more competitors. So yeah, just reach
- 32:11Speaker 6: out to Capital Market and you go line and we'll
- 32:15Speaker 6: flip you up.
- 32:15Speaker 2: And you're looking for chefs again between the ages of
- 32:18Speaker 2: ten and seventeen, and you're going to give them all
- 32:20Speaker 2: a one hundred dollars gift card for Capital Market. They
- 32:23Speaker 2: get forty five minutes or so to go inside and
- 32:25Speaker 2: shop because everything has to be purchased there at Capital Market.
- 32:29Speaker 2: And I mean with all the different locations you get there,
- 32:31Speaker 2: they should be able to find just about anything there.
- 32:33Speaker 2: And then they prepare these meals and you got the
- 32:35Speaker 2: celebrity judges unfortunately. I mean I would love to judge
- 32:39Speaker 2: something like that. You know, I'm all about the food,
- 32:40Speaker 2: but I'm on the air at that time, so I'm
- 32:42Speaker 2: sure that's why I wasn't invited, right, Dad, We.
- 32:45Speaker 6: Try to hook you up with food at anytime we can,
- 32:48Speaker 6: I know. Yeah, and just for your listeners, like we
- 32:51Speaker 6: provide the grill, Like there's a prep area, there's a grill,
- 32:54Speaker 6: so you bring your own you tell you blenders, pots, plates,
- 32:59Speaker 6: pans and eyes, spatialist cutting boards from home. But yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 6: we'll give you one hundred dollars a shop for ingredients.
- 33:05Speaker 6: You can put it together. You can have a team
- 33:07Speaker 6: of assistants, so it's the the you know, the the
- 33:10Speaker 6: kids chefs are the captains of the team. But you
- 33:13Speaker 6: can have helpers. So if you need someone chopping up
- 33:16Speaker 6: some vegetables or helping your car some meat up, you
- 33:19Speaker 6: can have that help. But it's gonna be it's gonna
- 33:22Speaker 6: be a hot one, and it's going to be, you know,
- 33:24Speaker 6: so all fired up. Dates. We're excited for this one.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Give us a couple of examples from years past on
- 33:29Speaker 2: what some of these young chefs prepared like in years past.
- 33:34Speaker 6: Dave, this is a terrible question. This is my first one.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Oh okay, okay, I'm sorry. I didn't think about that.
- 33:39Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I mean no, I'm just.
- 33:43Speaker 6: You know, it's it's my first one. But I know
- 33:45Speaker 6: we have a lot of repeat competitors. You know, there's
- 33:49Speaker 6: some will Liliana who's competing in her third. She's coming
- 33:54Speaker 6: from Horace Man actually, a friend of mine that I've
- 33:58Speaker 6: done a long time of a high school classmate, a
- 34:01Speaker 6: son Damien, who's at Capitol High School. He's competed for
- 34:04Speaker 6: years and actually just helped Chef Key with our Juneteenth
- 34:08Speaker 6: Center a couple of weeks back at Capital Market, so
- 34:11Speaker 6: he's always around. So I'm really excited to see what
- 34:14Speaker 6: they put together. I think they're gonna get. As you
- 34:16Speaker 6: go through accompetition's year after year, Dave, you get a
- 34:18Speaker 6: little more bold, you get the more a little creative,
- 34:21Speaker 6: and I think you you go through the process launch
- 34:23Speaker 6: you understand how that you can make that one hundred
- 34:25Speaker 6: dollars work for you throughout the market a little bit better.
- 34:28Speaker 6: And so I think I think you're gonna continue as
- 34:30Speaker 6: we go on through the years. You're gonna see the
- 34:32Speaker 6: more elevated dishes.
- 34:34Speaker 2: And what does the grand prize winner get, the person's
- 34:37Speaker 2: deemed the best, what do they get?
- 34:39Speaker 6: Yeah, so we have Blinko has given us these custom
- 34:43Speaker 6: x Blinco Awards for those three categories best overall, most creative,
- 34:47Speaker 6: and best use of local ingredients, and then we'll have
- 34:49Speaker 6: a people's choice these uh, these kids chefs have been
- 34:52Speaker 6: fundraising through their pages on the Capitolmarket dot net, so
- 34:55Speaker 6: please go on there and help them out. Uh and
- 34:58Speaker 6: we'll have a people's choice award too for the most
- 35:00Speaker 6: engagement on those fundraising pages.
- 35:02Speaker 2: The texture said it sounds similar to the kids baking
- 35:04Speaker 2: championships on the Food Network.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I mean similar enough not to get sued, right, that's.
- 35:10Speaker 6: Similar similar, But you know, this is what we want
- 35:12Speaker 6: to do. We want we want young people at the market.
- 35:13Speaker 6: We want future generations of you know, people who pursue
- 35:16Speaker 6: the culinary exploits then go into restaurant business and maybe
- 35:20Speaker 6: someday they'll be working at Sohos or Bogeys or Sushi
- 35:23Speaker 6: Garden or bring their own uh you know, identity into
- 35:26Speaker 6: the market. And you know, I'm super excited for this,
- 35:29Speaker 6: so can Kennis Nelson has been hyping this one up
- 35:31Speaker 6: that she's her favorite. So I'm really excited to get
- 35:35Speaker 6: there in the morning and we'll see what it's all about.
- 35:38Speaker 8: All right.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Before we let you go, I know you're really busy.
- 35:40Speaker 2: You've got several projects going on over there that's trying
- 35:42Speaker 2: to get taken care of you and I talked about
- 35:43Speaker 2: that earlier this morning. But let's let's talk about the
- 35:47Speaker 2: hours and other things going on with the fourth of
- 35:49Speaker 2: you guys who are actually going to be closed on
- 35:50Speaker 2: July fourth, Is that right?
- 35:52Speaker 6: We'll be closed on July fourth, will be We'll operate
- 35:55Speaker 6: normal hours today and tomorrow the ten to sixth, and
- 35:57Speaker 6: Sunday we'll be open at noon to five. We will
- 36:00Speaker 6: observe fourth of July on Saturday, and then we've you know,
- 36:04Speaker 6: going into our usual you know summer. We'll have a
- 36:06Speaker 6: let's let's get cooking event with Chef Paul. I should
- 36:09Speaker 6: have mentioned too that Chef Paul will MC the all
- 36:11Speaker 6: Fired Up events. Tomorrow we'll have Bjaj there for music
- 36:16Speaker 6: h And then my big task today, Dave, is to
- 36:18Speaker 6: find as many bottles of water and as many missing
- 36:21Speaker 6: fans as I can find to keep everybody fool. Those
- 36:25Speaker 6: girls turned up and then the times will be turned
- 36:28Speaker 6: up outside. So but there's there's covering at the market,
- 36:31Speaker 6: so please, and there's the indoor market, so come down shop,
- 36:33Speaker 6: get cool, hang out with us. We'd love to have you.
- 36:36Speaker 4: All right real quick.
- 36:37Speaker 2: If if somebody is maybe planning their own little get
- 36:40Speaker 2: together at home, I know a lot of folks are
- 36:42Speaker 2: gonna be grilling out and whatever. You go over to
- 36:44Speaker 2: Capital Market, there's any number of things that that that
- 36:48Speaker 2: you need that are necessities. Of course, you know about
- 36:50Speaker 2: the meats, you know about the cheeses. If you're gonna
- 36:52Speaker 2: pick up some soda, you're going to pick up uh,
- 36:55Speaker 2: some some craft beer, some wine.
- 36:56Speaker 4: It's all. It's all there at Capital Market. Bye.
- 37:00Speaker 6: I picked up some kangaroo meats this week and had
- 37:04Speaker 6: kangaroos tacos at home, made by meat from Capital Market.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Kangaroo tacos, Chuck, kangaroo tacos.
- 37:12Speaker 6: We had kangaroo and ground beef. We were calling them
- 37:14Speaker 6: ruined moo tacos, ruined mos. So yeah, yeah, so mich
- 37:18Speaker 6: let's get it. Let's get it out there. Yeah, come
- 37:20Speaker 6: come pick up some kangaroo meat. You get that, you have.
- 37:22Speaker 6: The market literally has everything from that down to the
- 37:25Speaker 6: kangaroo meet.
- 37:25Speaker 2: It will put a little bounce in your steps. See
- 37:27Speaker 2: what I did there, Chuck, Wow, it was bad. Chuck McGill,
- 37:32Speaker 2: Capitol Market. Happy fourth and happy two fifty. By the way,
- 37:35Speaker 2: your friend and mine, Dave Wilson of talk Line. I
- 37:38Speaker 2: was on a call with Dave earlier this morning. He
- 37:40Speaker 2: asked me to ask you about the great potato salad incident.
- 37:45Speaker 6: That is an off the air story, I know, but yeah,
- 37:49Speaker 6: that's that's a good one.
- 37:51Speaker 4: He told me the story.
- 37:52Speaker 2: And all I'm going to say about it is, if
- 37:54Speaker 2: you're over at Capital Market for the all Fired Up
- 37:57Speaker 2: event tomorrow or any point, I'm Chuck McGill and say,
- 38:01Speaker 2: tell me the potato salad story.
- 38:02Speaker 4: And you can thank Dave Wilson for that.
- 38:03Speaker 2: By the way, and he's actually listening right now. He
- 38:06Speaker 2: said he's going to listen to the stream in Morgantown
- 38:07Speaker 2: prior to talk line. So I told him I was
- 38:09Speaker 2: going to do it, and I did it. You don't
- 38:11Speaker 2: want to say anything to mister Wilson.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Well, this is why Dave Allen is my favorite.
- 38:15Speaker 8: Dave.
- 38:15Speaker 2: There you go, Chuck McGill, Capital Market, appreciate it. Man,

- 38:47Speaker 2: host bad host, forgetting that he's only been in that
- 38:50Speaker 2: job for alimited amount of time.
- 38:52Speaker 4: But it sounds like a really cool event.

- 42:34Speaker 2: the news here the Kanawa County Emergency Ambulance Authorities a
- 42:38Speaker 2: new director didn't waste a whole lot of time and
- 42:41Speaker 2: taking charge. Now we have a story posted about at
- 42:43Speaker 2: wv metronews dot com. Lance Wheeler, of course, is the
- 42:46Speaker 2: new director and former canawc Anty commissioner. He has fired
- 42:51Speaker 2: the two workers and the John Lucas case, Elissa Middleton
- 42:54Speaker 2: and Raymond Scott the authority and Lance really can't say
- 42:59Speaker 2: much beyond that because it is a personnel matter. You
- 43:02Speaker 2: can read the full release. We have it posted as
- 43:04Speaker 2: part of the story at WV metronews dot com. Now,
- 43:07Speaker 2: Elyssa Middleton was charged with voluntary manslaughter, aggregated vehicular homicide
- 43:13Speaker 2: and fleeing the scene of an accident causing death and
- 43:16Speaker 2: the death of John Lucas, and those are all felmenies
- 43:20Speaker 2: and she is free on one hundred thousand dollar bills.
- 43:23Speaker 2: She's doing court July twenty eighth. Her trial is sent
- 43:26Speaker 2: to begin August seventeenth, and again you can read the
- 43:28Speaker 2: story at WV metronews dot com. And I offered up
- 43:32Speaker 2: an opinion a couple of times on the show. It's
- 43:36Speaker 2: been a very it's been a WorldWind of activities for
- 43:39Speaker 2: the ambulance service the last couple of days, Okay, the
- 43:42Speaker 2: last couple of months, I should say, with the tragic
- 43:44Speaker 2: death of John Lucas. And then last week there was
- 43:47Speaker 2: a board meeting held and they opted Almonica Mason, the
- 43:52Speaker 2: former director, reside and they opted to name Lance Wheeler,
- 43:56Speaker 2: who at the time was a canawg Anty commissioner, to
- 43:58Speaker 2: be the director of the Ambulance Authority, meaning that mister
- 44:01Speaker 2: Wheeler had to then resign his position on Kinan County
- 44:05Speaker 2: commission More on that coming up in a couple of moments.
- 44:07Speaker 4: So Lance Wheeler is the.
- 44:09Speaker 2: New director, and Jason Surgent, who had been serving as
- 44:12Speaker 2: the interim director, is now basically taking over like a
- 44:17Speaker 2: deputy director, more of the operations aspect of it, because
- 44:21Speaker 2: they need somebody to straighten out the finances because this
- 44:26Speaker 2: is an organization that deals, I mean, top level organization,
- 44:31Speaker 2: the largest county in state of West Virginia, operating in
- 44:33Speaker 2: about two million dollar deficit, and you can't you can't
- 44:36Speaker 2: get people, you can't retain people if you have that
- 44:39Speaker 2: kind of a deficit and there's just not enough money
- 44:41Speaker 2: to go around.
- 44:42Speaker 4: So they are.
- 44:44Speaker 2: They are working diligently to try to fix some things there.
- 44:47Speaker 2: And there were some people social media chatter about, you know,
- 44:51Speaker 2: Lance Wheeler taking over that role and what does he
- 44:55Speaker 2: know about it being an EMT and so on and
- 44:57Speaker 2: so over. Well, he knows budgets, and right now that's
- 45:01Speaker 2: what that organization needs. And I'm an editorial on my part,
- 45:06Speaker 2: I think, you know, keeping Jason Surgent on and the
- 45:08Speaker 2: others with the can handle that aspect of it. But
- 45:11Speaker 2: right now it's all about money, and it's all about
- 45:13Speaker 2: trying to straighten it up and trying to write the
- 45:15Speaker 2: ship or it's going to be in a world of trouble.
- 45:18Speaker 2: So I, for one, applaud the move as far as
- 45:21Speaker 2: making Lance Wheeler the director. You can go to read
- 45:24Speaker 2: the story on what we just talked about with the
- 45:26Speaker 2: dismissal of the ambulance drivers at WV metronews dot com.

- 46:02Speaker 2: horrific case out of Venton County in Ohio. I mean,
- 46:07Speaker 2: just a terrible, terrible case. Numerous kids, varying ages, found
- 46:14Speaker 2: residing in a very very tiny house. So in the

- 46:21Speaker 2: this small area Venton County, Ohio thought that the house
- 46:25Speaker 2: was abandoned and there were actually apparently people staying in
- 46:28Speaker 2: there in squalor. It's making national news. I heard the

- 47:28Speaker 2: a couple of texts here, Tex says the other ambulance
- 47:34Speaker 2: girl may have a legal cause for unjust discharge. I
- 47:37Speaker 2: see a lawsuit here? Well, I mean, look I am
- 47:41Speaker 2: not a legal expert by any stretch of the imagination,
- 47:44Speaker 2: but I think you're gonna hear a lot about legality
- 47:47Speaker 2: issues with the ambulance service over the next year or so.
- 47:51Speaker 2: And I don't know if it's wrongful discharge there. I
- 47:54Speaker 2: don't know if it's going after other p I don't know.
- 47:56Speaker 2: I don't have a crystal ball, but I do appreciate
- 47:59Speaker 2: the text and we'll see what happens.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Tex.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I don't mean to laugh about it, but just the
- 48:09Speaker 2: way it was phrase takes his lands is going to
- 48:11Speaker 2: be the budget master of giving the victims family millions
- 48:13Speaker 2: of dollars.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Well, that may very well be the case as well.
- 48:16Speaker 4: It could very well be the case.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Speaking of what is going on at the Capital, things
- 48:23Speaker 2: get underway at the c CC today.
- 48:26Speaker 1: That is the.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Capital City Celebration, and there are lots of activities. Let
- 48:30Speaker 2: me run down the active This is just what's going
- 48:31Speaker 2: on at the Capitol today. Five o'clock on the Culture
- 48:36Speaker 2: Center lawn, midday eats in treats, artisan market, Big Wheel Plaza,
- 48:49Speaker 2: the State Capital tour. That's that's kind of neat five o'clock.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Those going from five to eight. There's concert tonight the
- 48:56Speaker 2: local honeys big on the Big Wheel Stage. I'll know
- 49:01Speaker 2: they're calling it the Big Wheel Stage. By the way,
- 49:03Speaker 2: Bob Thompson, the iconic Bob Thompson, will be in concert
- 49:07Speaker 2: tonight Stargane at six Riley Babst will be there at

- 49:12Speaker 2: to ten from the Boulevard stage every fifteen minutes, so
- 49:15Speaker 2: there's always something going on there. And by the way,
- 49:20Speaker 2: I appreciate the text from one of our for one
- 49:23Speaker 2: of our folks here. For some reason, I said our
- 49:25Speaker 2: great sponsors and Almost Haven Interiors were located in Saint Albans.
- 49:30Speaker 4: They're not there in South Charleston. I don't know why
- 49:31Speaker 4: I said that. Five got it right in front of me,
- 49:33Speaker 4: five sixteen D Street in South Charleston. They've only been
- 49:35Speaker 4: sponsored for a couple of months. What do you expect
- 49:37Speaker 4: me to know? Huh? I mean, but I apologize for that.
- 49:39Speaker 2: To the fine folks at Almost Heven in tars they
- 49:42Speaker 2: sponsor our dot me please pedal the week every Friday.

- 49:55Speaker 2: to commercial spaces, they do at all. Again five to
- 49:57Speaker 2: sixteen d Street located in South Charlestown. Now, there's been
- 50:00Speaker 2: a lot of people that have asked about the security,
- 50:04Speaker 2: emergency services, so on and so forth with these two
- 50:07Speaker 2: big events going on in Charleston at the same time,
- 50:10Speaker 2: and the news team was able to do an interview
- 50:12Speaker 2: with Charleston Police Chief Scott Dempsey about that. So the
- 50:16Speaker 2: city police are going to be out primarily with the
- 50:20Speaker 2: Regatta stuff. They're going to assist at the Capital celebration,
- 50:24Speaker 2: but that the bulk of that, as far as security
- 50:27Speaker 2: and things of that nature, is going to be handled
- 50:29Speaker 2: by Capitol Police and also by the West Virginia State Police.
- 50:32Speaker 2: But again, this effort like this, and you heard the
- 50:34Speaker 2: mayor talking about earlier, you've got to have a cooperation
- 50:39Speaker 2: between the two entities, between the two events. And as
- 50:42Speaker 2: I said, it's going to be very, very crowded, and
- 50:46Speaker 2: with I mean a lot of people are already coming
- 50:49Speaker 2: into Charleston. Things are getting underway with the regarded downtown
- 50:52Speaker 2: today and on the river as well. So you know, everybody,
- 50:57Speaker 2: just pack your patients with you, as they say, all
- 51:00Speaker 2: right and uh and try to stay cool if you can't,
- 51:03Speaker 2: because you need to do that, all right because media.
