Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: FT Live instant reaction postgame show presented by Fox One.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We have Aeric Kratz and Kevin Plaramscott Braun KP are
- 0:14Speaker 1: more recent former Big leaguer and former Blue Jay watching
- 0:18Speaker 1: this team and doing some analysis for Blue Jay's TV
- 0:22Speaker 1: and not seeing the same team from the Division series.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We want to give a ton of praise to the
- 0:29Speaker 1: Mariners for going through a marathon game five in the
- 0:31Speaker 1: DS and now going up to oh against the Toronto
- 0:35Speaker 1: Blue Jays heading back to Seattle. KP, what are you
- 0:39Speaker 1: seeing in this series after this one was a drubbing.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I think it's more about the Mariners are doing than
- 0:47Speaker 2: the Blue Jays are doing. I think they're staying consistent
- 0:49Speaker 2: with their game plan and what they've always done. I
- 0:52Speaker 2: think this is just a team that everyone kind of
- 0:54Speaker 2: always feared if they got the hitting, the match to
- 0:57Speaker 2: pitching at the pitching match to hitting. This is always
- 0:59Speaker 2: a team people feared if the Mariners were able to
- 1:02Speaker 2: get to the playoffs. This is a type of team
- 1:05Speaker 2: people thought they could be.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Kratz, go what do you got for me?
- 1:15Speaker 3: Man? Ten to three?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Mariners beat up the Blue Jays. Trey Savage did not
- 1:21Speaker 1: look like the dude who went five and change hitless
- 1:24Speaker 1: against the Yankees eleven strikeouts that last time around. Splitter
- 1:30Speaker 1: wasn't the same. Did you see, like, let's start there,
- 1:33Speaker 1: did you see a Tray Savage that didn't have his
- 1:38Speaker 1: best stuff? Did you see a Mariners team that has
- 1:41Speaker 1: a superhuman named or Hey? Polanco obviously wasn't the only
- 1:45Speaker 1: one to contribute to the ten runs, but he's unstoppable
- 1:48Speaker 1: right now. They're gonna have to figure out how to
- 1:50Speaker 1: circle his name in the lineup card going forward.
- 1:52Speaker 3: What do you got? I mean?
- 1:54Speaker 4: I would say Tray Savage maybe was a little bit
- 1:57Speaker 4: ran into a little bit of bad luck, not getting
- 2:00Speaker 4: on two guys that he struck out. But I think
- 2:02Speaker 4: it's because the Mariners took the opposite approach that the
- 2:07Speaker 4: Yankees took. The Yankees were like, we're swinging, We're gonna
- 2:11Speaker 4: do damage. You say he's unhittable, We're gonna hit Oh shoot,
- 2:15Speaker 4: we struck out eleven times. The Mariners were like, if
- 2:19Speaker 4: it's so unhittable, if we can't hit it, then we
- 2:22Speaker 4: might as well not swing until we see some more pitches.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Take the Julio Rodriguez at bat, he went splitter strike,
- 2:31Speaker 4: splitter strike, didn't even offer at it, and then he
- 2:35Speaker 4: was like, you know what, We'll go back to another one,
- 2:38Speaker 4: and he just ended up being a slow fastball middle
- 2:42Speaker 4: middle of the plate. I think it was eighty eight
- 2:43Speaker 4: or eighty nine, and so I think the approach was
- 2:46Speaker 4: definitely a team approach. They just kind of waited him
- 2:51Speaker 4: out and Doug Eddings wasn't calling very many borderline pitches
- 2:55Speaker 4: and so it didn't go his way. And I think
- 2:57Speaker 4: a lot of things could have swayed a little bit maybe,
- 3:01Speaker 4: And I think the biggest thing would have been maybe
- 3:03Speaker 4: Trey Savage stays in the game and has an opportunity
- 3:08Speaker 4: to get himself out of those jams instead of instead
- 3:11Speaker 4: of the three run homer that Louis Varlin gave up.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah, Trays or sorry, Trey.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Doug Eddings was quite bad this evening, rolling bos strikes.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's not just the misses for me, it's the timeliness
- 3:25Speaker 1: of the missus KP. I mean, Doug's been around for
- 3:29Speaker 1: a long time, but what did you see there?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, we we were touching on this in the earlier
- 3:35Speaker 2: show today about umpires. I just think that they're finally
- 3:38Speaker 2: held to like a really high standard and they're expected
- 3:41Speaker 2: to lock it in. I mean, a lot of these
- 3:43Speaker 2: umpires are unplaying games that only people in their local
- 3:47Speaker 2: market are watching. Now this is national TV. We're down
- 3:50Speaker 2: to the final four. There's an over compensation that these
- 3:53Speaker 2: umpires have to make because the whole world's watching, and
- 3:55Speaker 2: they tend to err on the side of small because
- 3:58Speaker 2: they've been so big all year, and it tends to
- 4:01Speaker 2: kind of people tend to make a bigger deal about
- 4:04Speaker 2: the pitches that are outside the strike zone that are
- 4:06Speaker 2: cult strikes as opposed to these borderline pitches or pitches
- 4:10Speaker 2: that just clip the strike zone cult ball. So I
- 4:13Speaker 2: think we're just seeing a huge over conversation from a
- 4:16Speaker 2: group of umpires that don't really have to fully lock
- 4:19Speaker 2: it in every single day during the year, and now
- 4:22Speaker 2: they're held to this higher standard because the whole world's watching.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And pushing forward Kratz.
- 4:30Speaker 1: The Blue Jays are in trouble, the Mariners are forced
- 4:33Speaker 1: right now, they're riding momentum. They're up two to zero
- 4:36Speaker 1: heading back home, and then you light up the starting
- 4:40Speaker 1: staff at home, which we already know about as George
- 4:44Speaker 1: Kirby Game three, matching up against Shane Bieber. Game four
- 4:47Speaker 1: will be Luis Castillo. Game five might be Brian wu
- 4:52Speaker 1: if he's feeling up to it. And depending on where
- 4:54Speaker 1: the series is at, we might not even have a
- 4:56Speaker 1: Game five, And if we have to flip back, then
- 4:58Speaker 1: we'll do that and the starters will be in a
- 5:00Speaker 1: better place. We'd get to logan Gilbert coming off short
- 5:03Speaker 1: rest on having his best stuff. But going forward for
- 5:05Speaker 1: a moment here, how in control are the Mariners. It's
- 5:09Speaker 1: hard to see them suddenly falling in what four out
- 5:13Speaker 1: of the next what.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Does it have to be here? Four out of the
- 5:16Speaker 3: next six or for the next five?
- 5:18Speaker 4: Five?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Right, for the next five.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's hard to see that happening from Seattle, given the
- 5:23Speaker 1: starting pitching staff that they've had that we've talked about
- 5:26Speaker 1: for years, given the bullpen in a really good place.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Not to mention, they barely used any of the big boys.
- 5:31Speaker 1: What three or I think three out of the four
- 5:33Speaker 1: big boys weren't used in this game too because it
- 5:36Speaker 1: was a blowout. And the offense, it's just hard to
- 5:39Speaker 1: see the offense not having some nights where some homers
- 5:42Speaker 1: get bashed, some hit, clutch hits come through. Okay, maybe
- 5:45Speaker 1: you could see the offense quieting a little bit, but
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't know. It's just hard to see this team
- 5:49Speaker 1: suddenly falling apart here.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I mean, I think the game is the game from
- 5:55Speaker 4: here on out. We're not going to have ten three
- 5:57Speaker 4: games most likely. The reason we have those early is
- 5:59Speaker 4: because I think managers kind of stay like, Okay, I'm
- 6:04Speaker 4: gonna stay with this guy a little bit longer. As
- 6:06Speaker 4: the series goes on, We're gonna have three two games,
- 6:08Speaker 4: We're gonna have four four, three games. We're gonna have
- 6:11Speaker 4: close games because everyone's just gonna blow out their bullpen.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Everyone's going to just use these guys and to me,
- 6:19Speaker 4: one run games at home. The Mariners are even if
- 6:24Speaker 4: the series was tied, they would swing to the Mariners
- 6:27Speaker 4: favor because they're playing the next three at home in Seattle.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Seattle has never been to the World Series. The fans
- 6:33Speaker 4: are gonna be rabid, and I think the team. While
- 6:37Speaker 4: I would have never said this coming into the series,
- 6:41Speaker 4: this team is playing better than the Blue Jays. They
- 6:43Speaker 4: proved it in the first two games. I would I
- 6:45Speaker 4: would have said nobody's playing playing better than the Blue
- 6:48Speaker 4: than the Blue Jays right now, or the Dodgers. We'll
- 6:51Speaker 4: see what happens in the other series. But it shows
- 6:54Speaker 4: you that you come in riding the momentum of a
- 6:57Speaker 4: tough series, which in my opinion, shouldn't have been a
- 6:59Speaker 4: to with the Tigers, and then you come out and
- 7:03Speaker 4: you prove that you're you're dominating your opponent. They're dominating
- 7:08Speaker 4: the Blue Jays right now at their home blue Jays
- 7:11Speaker 4: were fifty four and twenty seven at home. You know
- 7:14Speaker 4: the team that had the second best home record in
- 7:16Speaker 4: the American League, Seattle Mariners, and everybody said it. We
- 7:21Speaker 4: talked to Brent Rooker. I talked to Brent Rooker when
- 7:23Speaker 4: I went to Kansas City earlier this year, and he goes,
- 7:27Speaker 4: do this this bullpen, Oh my gosh, this bullpen's ridiculous.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And that's if you get past their starters. For the Mariners,
- 7:34Speaker 4: they're just a suffocating rotation to bullpen. That Isn't that
- 7:40Speaker 4: what you need for the postseason? Isn't that what KP said,
- 7:43Speaker 4: That's what we've said for the last two years. Don't
- 7:45Speaker 4: let this team get in. Now you see the Astros.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Let this team get in, and they're two to oh
- 7:51Speaker 4: in the American League Championship. Series.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and this was the game that Toronto had to have.
- 7:58Speaker 1: KP you had it lined up. I mean, I get it.
- 8:00Speaker 1: You gave up a home run early if you're Toronto
- 8:03Speaker 1: and Trey Savage, but they caught back up.
- 8:05Speaker 3: They tied the game early.
- 8:06Speaker 1: By the bottom of the second inning, we're tied right
- 8:09Speaker 1: with Toronto doing their thing.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Logan Gilbert did not have his best stuff.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't disagree with anything Kratz is saying,
- 8:17Speaker 2: especially the Mariners are just playing better than the Blue Jays.
- 8:20Speaker 2: But I think this series just has funkiness written all
- 8:25Speaker 2: over it. I think everyone would have thought Blue Jay's
- 8:27Speaker 2: at home, you know, having the rest, not having to
- 8:30Speaker 2: come off that emotional series that the Mariners did, going
- 8:34Speaker 2: deep in the game, having their bullpen in shambles, They're
- 8:38Speaker 2: pitching in shambles. It just seemed like it was destiny
- 8:41Speaker 2: that the Blue Jays would win the first two games
- 8:42Speaker 2: at home. They had their Ace and Kevin Gosman. Then
- 8:45Speaker 2: they had Trey Savage, who didn't give up a hit
- 8:47Speaker 2: in his first playoff game. The Mariner's going to beat them.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Now we fly across country, we go to the West Coast,
- 8:52Speaker 2: we go to Seattle, the team that has the second
- 8:54Speaker 2: best home record in the American League. Their pitching plans
- 8:58Speaker 2: are perfectly in line, their bullpen is rested. This just
- 9:01Speaker 2: feels weird to me. This just feels like there's gonna
- 9:03Speaker 2: be a series where if you try to predict that
- 9:06Speaker 2: what's gonna happen, if you're betting on the favorites to win,
- 9:10Speaker 2: it just feels weird. And I think the Blue Jays
- 9:12Speaker 2: are not down and out. This is coming from experience
- 9:15Speaker 2: someone that was down two oh in a seven game
- 9:18Speaker 2: series in an ALCS. You go in and you win
- 9:20Speaker 2: the first game, you obviously try to win that second game,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but if you just can figure out a way to
- 9:25Speaker 2: get that series back home, you gotta love getting back home.
- 9:28Speaker 2: So they just got to figure out a way to
- 9:30Speaker 2: win two. They don't have to win all three. I
- 9:32Speaker 2: would feel confident in them coming back three to two,
- 9:34Speaker 2: down three two, back home to Toronto in front of
- 9:38Speaker 2: the best home crowd in baseball, and I mean, from there,
- 9:42Speaker 2: anything can happen. But I don't think they're out. I
- 9:45Speaker 2: just think there's something weird going on this series where
- 9:47Speaker 2: if you try to predict what's gonna happen, the opposite's
- 9:50Speaker 2: gonna happen.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Okay, So we're gonna take a quickie break. It's quick,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and then we'll swing back. We'll look at how the
- 9:58Speaker 1: starting pitching lines up on the Blue Jays side. Will
- 10:01Speaker 1: also highlight how the Mariners offense got the job done tonight,
- 10:05Speaker 1: easily showing off their power.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Be right back, KP.
- 10:09Speaker 1: We both love Omaha Steaks. My latest order six private
- 10:14Speaker 1: reserve filet mignons. It sounds bougie because it is. They
- 10:18Speaker 1: were fantastic and also one and a half pounds of
- 10:21Speaker 1: jumbo cooked shrimp with a big initial discount and then
- 10:24Speaker 1: an additional thirty five bucks off with the code foul.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You have been a long time Omaha Steaks guy too.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Back in college, I would always order steaks. I'd
- 10:34Speaker 2: put them in my freezer. And that's the reason I
- 10:37Speaker 2: bulked up is because I always had fresh steaks in
- 10:40Speaker 2: my freezer, ready.
- 10:40Speaker 1: To go, delicious protein, Get after it. Okay, it is
- 10:45Speaker 1: the best in the biz. If you're ordering steaks online,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you can say big with Omaha Steaks. Visit Omaha Steaks
- 10:51Speaker 1: dot com for fifty percent off site wide and an
- 10:54Speaker 1: extra twenty percent off select favor during their Early Black
- 10:57Speaker 1: Friday sale and for an extra thirty five off used
- 11:00Speaker 1: promo code foul at checkout terms Apply se site for details.
- 11:04Speaker 1: That's fifty percent off at Omaha Steaks dot com promo
- 11:07Speaker 1: code foul at checkout.
- 11:11Speaker 3: All right, we're back.
- 11:12Speaker 1: We talked about how Seattle is lined up really nicely
- 11:15Speaker 1: the next few games with their starting staff, which for
- 11:18Speaker 1: years has been, if not the best top two or
- 11:22Speaker 1: three in baseball.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Right KP.
- 11:24Speaker 1: On the Blue Jays side, Shane Bieber was the big
- 11:27Speaker 1: hired gun acquired at the trade deadline. Was okay, right
- 11:32Speaker 1: against the Yankees you need him, and then probably a
- 11:36Speaker 1: Max Scherzer start in Game four. Before you start thinking
- 11:40Speaker 1: about what's next. What do you think of these next
- 11:42Speaker 1: couple games coming up?
- 11:44Speaker 2: I mean, I like the Mariners guys better, but I
- 11:47Speaker 2: would have said that about the Blue Jays guys in
- 11:49Speaker 2: the first two games too. I would have liked Kevin
- 11:52Speaker 2: Gosman and Trey Savage. So I don't know what's going
- 11:55Speaker 2: on in the series. It feels weird, but I do
- 11:57Speaker 2: know Shane Bieber has been in this situation before, where
- 12:00Speaker 2: he's been in big games. He's pitching the postseason. He
- 12:03Speaker 2: didn't pitch terribly in New York. He just you know,
- 12:07Speaker 2: he got kind of dinked and dunked a little bit.
- 12:09Speaker 2: His command wasn't the best. It wasn't the sharpest stuff
- 12:12Speaker 2: he had. But what I do know because I watched
- 12:15Speaker 2: it in New York, he's gonna be on a short leash,
- 12:17Speaker 2: especially down two oh, so he's gonna have to show
- 12:20Speaker 2: that he can be very dominant early if he wants
- 12:22Speaker 2: to pitch deep into this game.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Maybe the Mariners are also huffing, puffing crats because they
- 12:29Speaker 1: beat Scooble twice.
- 12:31Speaker 3: I mean, they won Scooble games twice.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Now they head home four times. It's almost like it's
- 12:39Speaker 4: almost like they go, Okay, well what is your best
- 12:42Speaker 4: pitch or who is your best pitcher? And they're like, well,
- 12:46Speaker 4: we'll get up for this game. Well we'll figure out
- 12:49Speaker 4: how to do this. Like they're a train right now.
- 12:52Speaker 4: And Shane Bieber has the ability to do well. I
- 12:56Speaker 4: just I never, you know, I feel like the Yankees
- 12:59Speaker 4: see bebe really well. So maybe that's not a good barometer,
- 13:02Speaker 4: but he's pitching well. Has he pitched dominantly since his
- 13:07Speaker 4: first outing? Since his first outing with the Jays, has
- 13:09Speaker 4: he been dominant and to me, if he's gonna give
- 13:12Speaker 4: them length because of the hook quick hook, because of
- 13:15Speaker 4: the off day, because of the fact that they're down
- 13:18Speaker 4: too to oh, he's he's got to almost dominate the
- 13:21Speaker 4: first five six innings for John Schneider to say, Okay,
- 13:25Speaker 4: I'm gonna get ninety pitches out of you. I'm gonna
- 13:28Speaker 4: get eighty five pitches out of you. Because he's gone
- 13:31Speaker 4: to that quick hook keeping his team in the game
- 13:35Speaker 4: and it hasn't worked out so far.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And the weakness for Toronto is their bullpen KP and
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's letting them down so far.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they don't have except for you know,
- 13:48Speaker 2: maybe a couple guys in the back end. They don't
- 13:50Speaker 2: have like a ton of swing of miss guys that
- 13:52Speaker 2: you can bring in. And you know, you need to
- 13:55Speaker 2: have guys in the bullpen that have swing a miss
- 13:57Speaker 2: because there's gonna be situations in the game you need
- 13:59Speaker 2: to get strikeouts. And the Blue Jays don't just have
- 14:02Speaker 2: those guys in the bullpen. They are really good when
- 14:05Speaker 2: they can get to a lead, and they cant kind
- 14:07Speaker 2: of mix and match their bullpen and matchup. But when
- 14:11Speaker 2: you're asking those guys to have to cover, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 2: thirteen fifteen, seventeen outs. It gets a little thin, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 2: and that's where the Mariners, you know, like Brett Rooker said,
- 14:21Speaker 2: and I experienced when I was with the Angels, there
- 14:24Speaker 2: was always this big talk about the Mariners starting pitching,
- 14:27Speaker 2: you know, for obvious reasons. On any given day, they're
- 14:29Speaker 2: rolling out, you know, a one or two starter legit
- 14:32Speaker 2: starting pitching. But the bullpen was always nasty. You know.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You started that back end with munos and then you
- 14:39Speaker 2: go to even you know, the last guy in their bullpen,
- 14:42Speaker 2: they all have swinging miss stuff, and it's it's it's suffocating,
- 14:46Speaker 2: like Brett Berger said, it's very suffocating. No matter who
- 14:48Speaker 2: comes out of that bullpen, it's stuff. It might not
- 14:51Speaker 2: be the best pitch ability, but it's stuff. And at
- 14:53Speaker 2: the end of the day, stuff plays.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So the game was decided in the fifth inning, right
- 15:00Speaker 1: you savage pitching.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Vilo is down a little bit.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You get an infield single and a bad throat from
- 15:07Speaker 1: Jimenez and then they intentionally walk cal Raley and they
- 15:11Speaker 1: bring in Louis Arland. He strikes out Julio Rodriguez. I
- 15:16Speaker 1: think that pitch was center cut fastball and then and
- 15:20Speaker 1: that's okay. I mean, Louis Arland throws hard. But here's
- 15:23Speaker 1: my question for UKP. I don't know if you've faced him,
- 15:25Speaker 1: but you certainly have faced many guys that look like
- 15:28Speaker 1: Louis Arland in terms of stuff out of the bullpen.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Where Hey, Polanco, you know, hits a three run home
- 15:33Speaker 1: run on a fastball that caught the middle of the plate.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Are you seeing too much of that from Loui who's
- 15:38Speaker 1: giving up some big home runs. You look at him
- 15:41Speaker 1: and you're like, on the outside, this looks really good.
- 15:43Speaker 1: This guy's pumping heat. He can strike guys out, but
- 15:45Speaker 1: he's also giving up big hits, including big homers.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I mean, that would be a better question for Kratz.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I mean, he he's the catcher, he's got the better view.
- 15:55Speaker 2: But my question to Krats he would be you have
- 15:58Speaker 2: the big arm and the big stuff, but at the
- 16:00Speaker 2: end of the day, flyball pitcher, right, that's a situation
- 16:03Speaker 2: where you maybe when you have first and second economically,
- 16:06Speaker 2: you're trying to get a sinker baller in there, someone
- 16:09Speaker 2: that used really hard to get the ball in the air.
- 16:11Speaker 2: You try to get those two outs on one swing
- 16:14Speaker 2: and then you just do what you got to do
- 16:15Speaker 2: to get the last guy out. But bringing in a
- 16:18Speaker 2: fly ball pitcher who also has some swinging miss stuff
- 16:22Speaker 2: is kind of a risky play right there. I don't
- 16:24Speaker 2: know what Kratz thinks. You know, as a catcher, you
- 16:27Speaker 2: know you have some confidence when you know this guy's
- 16:29Speaker 2: got like a sinker that's hard to get in the air.
- 16:31Speaker 2: You feel like you can get two outs on one
- 16:33Speaker 2: swing of the bat. Kind of lowers the temperature in
- 16:35Speaker 2: the room. You know, runner at third base with two
- 16:37Speaker 2: outs feels a whole lot different in it inning.
- 16:42Speaker 4: To me. Besides, besides Hoffman, Louis Varland's the guy you're
- 16:46Speaker 4: going to. So we're talking about this because what Scott said,
- 16:50Speaker 4: that was the game he comes in, slams the door.
- 16:55Speaker 4: That game might swing in the mariners favor, but he didn't,
- 17:00Speaker 4: and he has given up some big homers. To me,
- 17:03Speaker 4: they are it seems like hitters are not surprised when
- 17:09Speaker 4: he starts that splitter and it runs way off the
- 17:13Speaker 4: plate like they're not even it's not even like a
- 17:16Speaker 4: like a close take, and they're on his one hundred
- 17:19Speaker 4: miles an hour now. Obviously one of his home runs
- 17:22Speaker 4: was against Judge, which was ridiculous that he hit that.
- 17:26Speaker 4: But for me, Louis Varlan's he's getting there's he's getting
- 17:30Speaker 4: a lot of contact out front for one hundred miles
- 17:33Speaker 4: an hour. You need to get some guys that are
- 17:35Speaker 4: that are taking the opposite field, like taking you out,
- 17:38Speaker 4: because you're going elevated up in a way and they're
- 17:42Speaker 4: taking you out. To me, he's the he's either showing
- 17:46Speaker 4: them something, he's tipping something, or he's not moving their
- 17:50Speaker 4: feet enough. And he has to do that because if
- 17:54Speaker 4: this series goes past five games, however many games it goes,
- 17:58Speaker 4: Louis Arland's gonna be in there. John Schneider is proven,
- 18:02Speaker 4: he is not going down without Louis Arland pitching. Jeff
- 18:06Speaker 4: Hoffman didn't pitch. He's your closer. Louis Arlan's what I
- 18:10Speaker 4: would call your secondary closer in the situation in the lane,
- 18:14Speaker 4: he's the guy. He is the guy they want Julio
- 18:17Speaker 4: to face. He's the guy they want to turn Jorge
- 18:20Speaker 4: Polanco around. And it didn't happen again tonight. And when
- 18:25Speaker 4: you're in those spots, you're gonna have to set a precedent.
- 18:28Speaker 4: The next time you come in to me. If he
- 18:30Speaker 4: backs Jorgey Polanco off the plate, I think he's cooked.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I think jorgees cooked because he can't lean out over
- 18:38Speaker 4: that fastball was kind of it wasn't middle middle, it
- 18:41Speaker 4: was a little middle away, and you can't let guys
- 18:44Speaker 4: get that much extension on you. One hundred mile an
- 18:45Speaker 4: hour heater.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it also looks like Mike Cratsy's saying, a guy,
- 18:49Speaker 2: those one hundred miles an hour guys are just cheating
- 18:52Speaker 2: to the fastball. I mean, they're not respecting his secondary pitches.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Maybe he's got to come in and almost pitch backwards
- 18:59Speaker 2: a little bit to try to get the guys off
- 19:00Speaker 2: the fastball. And you know, knowing the both hitting coaches
- 19:03Speaker 2: that are in Seattle, I had them in Atlanta, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: you know they're they're good at preaching that those little
- 19:09Speaker 2: fine details of you know, hunt the pitch that you
- 19:12Speaker 2: feel like you can do damage on, kind of eliminate
- 19:14Speaker 2: the other pitches. He hasn't really shown the ability to,
- 19:18Speaker 2: you know, land the secondary pitches or throw them consistently
- 19:21Speaker 2: throughout the bat. He might show you that get me
- 19:24Speaker 2: over one early, but is he going to go to
- 19:26Speaker 2: it again and again. Ultimately, he wants to get back
- 19:28Speaker 2: to the heater, and I respect him for it because
- 19:31Speaker 2: if I had a triple digit heater too, I'd want
- 19:33Speaker 2: to show it off too. But also to krats point,
- 19:36Speaker 2: you know, when guys are getting out in front and
- 19:38Speaker 2: leaning out over the plate, you got to move their feet.
- 19:41Speaker 2: You got to show them something. Get get up a
- 19:43Speaker 2: little high and tight, you know, move their feet a
- 19:45Speaker 2: little bit, make it a little bit less comfortable, because
- 19:48Speaker 2: facing one hundred miles an hour should never be comfortable.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And he's pitched in every game so far in the
- 19:55Speaker 1: playoffs for Toronto, six games. Yeah, they're going to keep
- 19:59Speaker 1: throwing them out there. I mean, hindsight blah blah blah.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But if you're a Toronto fan right now, you're like,
- 20:04Speaker 1: damn it, I wish we went the extra mile and
- 20:07Speaker 1: got ourselves the Duran somebody else, even if they got
- 20:12Speaker 1: to Ireland right like, they could use another high leverage
- 20:15Speaker 1: guy right now.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean everybody.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Anthony demingis too. They got Sir Anthony down there too,
- 20:23Speaker 2: and you know he's typically their eighth inning guy, you know.
- 20:26Speaker 2: To Cratzy's point, louis just kind of I think the
- 20:30Speaker 2: team knew what they were getting. I don't think baseball
- 20:33Speaker 2: really knew much about Louis Arlin. You know, he was
- 20:35Speaker 2: kind of hitting an organization that you know, maybe you
- 20:38Speaker 2: hadn't seen him pitch a lot. You know, when I
- 20:40Speaker 2: saw the move, I'm like, oh, does that really move
- 20:42Speaker 2: the needle? And then you watch him pitch, and the
- 20:43Speaker 2: guy is legit. You know, he's earned the right to
- 20:46Speaker 2: kind of be this fireman. You know when at the
- 20:48Speaker 2: highest leverage of the game, whether that's in the fourth inning,
- 20:51Speaker 2: the eighth inning, somewhere in between, then you're going to
- 20:53Speaker 2: Louis Arlin and to your point, yeah, he's giving up
- 20:56Speaker 2: some home runs. You know, you could kind of even
- 20:58Speaker 2: eliminate the one to judge that was just a ridiculous
- 21:01Speaker 2: That was judge just being judged. He did give up
- 21:03Speaker 2: the homer to Jazz, you know where it was kind
- 21:05Speaker 2: of a fastball that kind of leaked over the plate.
- 21:07Speaker 2: But you know, I think both of our points about
- 21:10Speaker 2: having to move the guy's feet make him feel a
- 21:12Speaker 2: little bit more uncomfortable, but also being able to kind
- 21:15Speaker 2: of maybe pitch backwards for a little bit, trust the
- 21:17Speaker 2: secondary stuff to at least steal a strike. Maybe a
- 21:20Speaker 2: second strike and then try to elevate the heater up
- 21:23Speaker 2: out of the zone. Try to speed people up a
- 21:25Speaker 2: little bit, because people don't look like they're sped up
- 21:27Speaker 2: on his fastball right now.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Meanwhile, on the Seattle side, Bizarto is a huge factor
- 21:35Speaker 3: for them.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Now, and you're just a guy that you can add
- 21:38Speaker 1: to the circle of trust. So it's it's a special
- 21:41Speaker 1: group here going for Seattle. I mean Bizardo, obviously, Muno
- 21:46Speaker 1: Sprash like They've got some big boys that are getting
- 21:48Speaker 1: the job done. Also, I mean some guys you go
- 21:52Speaker 1: through hot stretches, cold stretches, and that happens to hit
- 21:55Speaker 1: at the right or wrong time. And right now in
- 21:57Speaker 1: the postseason, Seattle's got it going with their So let's
- 22:02Speaker 1: do final thoughts here, KP.
- 22:05Speaker 3: The Blue Jays come back.
- 22:07Speaker 2: If I think the Blue Jays come back, if they
- 22:12Speaker 2: take a recipe out of their book from the first
- 22:15Speaker 2: series and score early, score first, score early, try to
- 22:20Speaker 2: silence the crowd and Seattle it's going to be a
- 22:24Speaker 2: very rowdy crowd. But what people who haven't played for
- 22:28Speaker 2: the Blue Jays don't understand and maybe have an experience
- 22:32Speaker 2: Seattle for a long time was considered Toronto West coast,
- 22:36Speaker 2: you get a lot of that influx of people from
- 22:38Speaker 2: the West coast to Canada come down. So that's something
- 22:41Speaker 2: I'm going to be interested in seeing because there was
- 22:43Speaker 2: days I went there for batting practice and there might
- 22:45Speaker 2: be twenty thousand Blue Jay fans there watching practice. It
- 22:48Speaker 2: was maybe their only opportunity to watch their beloved Blue
- 22:51Speaker 2: Jays come remotely close to them on the West Coast,
- 22:54Speaker 2: and they would come down. How Seattle kind of trait
- 22:57Speaker 2: maybe is try to counteract that with ticket sales, maybe
- 23:00Speaker 2: not selling tickets across the border to be seen. But
- 23:03Speaker 2: I think the Blue Jays have to score in that
- 23:05Speaker 2: first inning like they've done, like they did in the
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yankees series. Silence the crowd, get a couple shut down innings,
- 23:13Speaker 2: get that kind of momentum back, get that confidence back,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and I think they'll be Finekratz.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I'll go the other way unless you've got something strong
- 23:21Speaker 1: on Toronto. The Mariners sweep.
- 23:23Speaker 4: If he keep doing what they're doing, the Mariners sweep
- 23:29Speaker 4: if the blue Jays bats don't wake back up. Really,
- 23:34Speaker 4: I mean, I think that's how the Blue Jays got
- 23:36Speaker 4: to where they were. They gave him a lot of runs.
- 23:38Speaker 4: Everybody remembers Game three when John Schneider just orchestrated this beautiful,
- 23:43Speaker 4: beautiful nine pitchers, nine innings type of game. But the
- 23:48Speaker 4: reality is the Blue Jays got where they were because
- 23:51Speaker 4: they were banging. They were hitting dingers, they were getting
- 23:54Speaker 4: on base. Blue Jays don't hit, they get swept.
- 24:02Speaker 1: There you have it, and we know that ALCS Game
