- 1:11Speaker 3: dot com. Al myself going to get into some cracking
- 1:14Speaker 3: news here in a bit, Plus also talk to one
- 1:17Speaker 3: of the guys connected here with said news, what happened
- 1:21Speaker 3: the krack and named Patrick Alvin, previously GM of the
- 1:25Speaker 3: Vancouver Canucks, now part of their front office. He will
- 1:28Speaker 3: serve as vice president and assistant general manager. And that's
- 1:32Speaker 3: not all. A named Pascal Vincent assistant coach, joining Lane
- 1:36Speaker 3: Lambert staff. This will be his third NHL stop, previously
- 1:41Speaker 3: with Winnipeg and also Columbus. Last two years was in
- 1:45Speaker 3: Montreal's farm system, serving as head coach of AHL Laval,
- 1:49Speaker 3: where he also picked up the league's Coach of the
- 1:53Speaker 3: Year award. What a fine pickup our conversation the Pascal
- 1:57Speaker 3: Vinson also follows that. Plus will also air more from
- 2:00Speaker 3: the Ian Forness show earlier today, speaking with Thomas Drants
- 2:04Speaker 3: of the Athletic based up in Vancouver, and more surrounding
- 2:08Speaker 3: this news and much more. Well to recap things once again,
- 2:12Speaker 3: Patrick Alvin named vice president and assistant general manager of
- 2:15Speaker 3: Pascal Vincent named assistant coach. Alvin is no stranger here
- 2:20Speaker 3: to this position, by the way, previously connected with Jason
- 2:24Speaker 3: botterrel in Pittsburgh when he was a member of their
- 2:27Speaker 3: front office. And many said his handywork from his amateur
- 2:31Speaker 3: scouting laid the groundwork down for back to back Stanley
- 2:34Speaker 3: Cup championships. Pascal Vincent joining the crack inside as well
- 2:38Speaker 3: as assistant coach offense a big part of this development.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Also a big part of this Let's jump in two
- 2:46Speaker 3: things right now, Al Kaniski joining us on the overtime podcast. Al,
- 2:51Speaker 3: you're looking pretty clean shaven here. No playoff, Beard, Hopefully
- 2:55Speaker 3: it's next year. You're holding up so well for the summer.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I absolutely am Mikey. I'm enjoying this and a little
- 3:01Speaker 4: bit of time off, and I'm just starting to get
- 3:03Speaker 4: that bug of missing hockey. It's been too long, and.
- 3:06Speaker 3: That has opened the door for beef Wellington. I saw
- 3:09Speaker 3: your Instagram feed and what was even more impressive, you
- 3:12Speaker 3: and I played golf together on Monday and you wasted
- 3:15Speaker 3: no time. Literally, It's like you just stepped in right
- 3:19Speaker 3: into the kitchen, dropped your clubs on the floor, and
- 3:21Speaker 3: got after that, and then voila, hours later, the world's
- 3:25Speaker 3: most precious and perfect beef Wellington on your table. I
- 3:29Speaker 3: was jealous of watching this.
- 3:31Speaker 4: That's the beauty of a beef Wellington. All the work
- 3:33Speaker 4: is the forty eight hours leading up to the cook
- 3:35Speaker 4: and that was in the fridge waiting for me when
- 3:37Speaker 4: I got home to go into the oven.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Okay, so what was the first pighte like? Then?
- 3:40Speaker 4: Oh? Magical. And the thing is is that my kids
- 3:43Speaker 4: eat it. There's mushrooms in there. They don't care. They
- 3:46Speaker 4: love it. It's delicious, So it's always a hit.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I love it. See that's the key with vegetables. And
- 3:51Speaker 3: I've done this as well too with my kids because
- 3:54Speaker 3: if you give them pasta, spaghetti, sauce, whatever pizza like,
- 3:58Speaker 3: you can hide the veggie. He's under the Jervis kids. Hey,
- 4:01Speaker 3: don't listen to me. By the way, you're outside of
- 4:03Speaker 3: the home office studio right now. I know that you're
- 4:05Speaker 3: not listening here. But folks, parent hack this is how
- 4:08Speaker 3: you sneak in the veggies here, find a way to
- 4:10Speaker 3: like mix them.
- 4:11Speaker 4: In really fine, saw tayt them butter.
- 4:15Speaker 3: They can't tell the difference at all, and they're getting
- 4:19Speaker 3: their ingredients here.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Here you go.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Patrick Calvin is now a member of the Crack in
- 4:23Speaker 3: front office again earlier today, named VP and assistant GM.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And now we're going to get into I think from
- 4:30Speaker 3: the at the top here. Why this move was made
- 4:33Speaker 3: for me, first off is the instant connection. This is
- 4:36Speaker 3: how the hockey world works here. Jason botterol was in Pittsburgh.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They had success under Jim Rutherford. Patrick Golvin was a
- 4:44Speaker 3: part of that and so and we'll get into a
- 4:46Speaker 3: little bit of this here later on. But this is
- 4:48Speaker 3: again another turning of the dial by the crack in
- 4:52Speaker 3: front office and by Jason botterrel to basically put a
- 4:56Speaker 3: stamp on this operation where this is now a j
- 5:00Speaker 3: some bottlel operation full stop. So you bring in Patrick Alvin,
- 5:05Speaker 3: who's got what seems like a pretty stellar record here
- 5:08Speaker 3: as far as scouting. I've talked to some folks here
- 5:11Speaker 3: in Vancouver. The handiwork he'd did on the pro scouting
- 5:15Speaker 3: side was terrific as well draft table. He won't be
- 5:18Speaker 3: too much involved, I think with that here. But it's
- 5:21Speaker 3: a move off the top where it signals that there
- 5:24Speaker 3: is familiarity, a relationship helps and this is where the
- 5:27Speaker 3: two could operate basically on the same page.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, Patrick's a a hockey operations guy. You know,
- 5:34Speaker 4: he's he's had success with the Stanley Cup wins, and
- 5:37Speaker 4: I think, you know, we talk a lot about having
- 5:39Speaker 4: players on your roster that have been through that that
- 5:43Speaker 4: that that chasm of getting to the other side, which
- 5:46Speaker 4: is the Stanley Cup and what it takes. And I
- 5:48Speaker 4: think for front office staff it's the same thing. You
- 5:51Speaker 4: want people that have put together rosters that have won
- 5:55Speaker 4: Stanley Cupps, and there's a secret sauce in there that
- 5:58Speaker 4: you want to apply to your own work organization. So
- 6:01Speaker 4: no surprise that it's someone that has Stanley Cup experience.
- 6:04Speaker 4: But you're right on Mike to your point, which is
- 6:07Speaker 4: when you have a relationship with someone, a past relationship
- 6:10Speaker 4: like Jason Bartol does, you look for people that you've
- 6:14Speaker 4: had success with in that time and you want to
- 6:16Speaker 4: bring them into your organization. So that's exactly what Jason
- 6:20Speaker 4: Botter is doing.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Two to six European scout from Montreal, then joined the
- 6:25Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Penguins staff six seven. He spent sixteen years with
- 6:30Speaker 3: the Penguins and then moved on to Vancouver to work
- 6:33Speaker 3: under Jim Rutherford. Didn't exactly work out, but again there
- 6:36Speaker 3: has been some success with the roles that he is
- 6:39Speaker 3: at previously here in Pittsburgh. The thing that you can't
- 6:42Speaker 3: ignore now is the fact that there's now four assistant
- 6:45Speaker 3: general managers in this craft in front office, he's now
- 6:48Speaker 3: in the mix. There is Alex Vandricki who has been
- 6:51Speaker 3: here from the start. Ryan Jankowski as well, he's got
- 6:54Speaker 3: his handywork on the amateur side. Ricky Oldcik is their capologist.
- 6:59Speaker 3: He is still here as well. This is a very
- 7:03Speaker 3: very crowded meeting room, so communication is going to be
- 7:06Speaker 3: at least from my own perspective on this here from
- 7:09Speaker 3: the outsides of the walls, just looking in communication first
- 7:14Speaker 3: and foremost is going to be very important to get
- 7:16Speaker 3: this groundwork laid down because I mean the NHL draft
- 7:19Speaker 3: is right around the corner, and then after that, this
- 7:22Speaker 3: is where Patrick Albean has to cook, and it's going
- 7:25Speaker 3: to be trade season and then July one if they
- 7:27Speaker 3: want to dip into free agency where that pool is
- 7:29Speaker 3: right now.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Razor Thin, Yeah, I mean, there are no rules as
- 7:33Speaker 4: to how many assistant to gms you can have, and
- 7:36Speaker 4: you know, four to us sounds like a lot. But
- 7:38Speaker 4: if they work well together, if they know their rules
- 7:41Speaker 4: and responsibilities and what they're good at, it can really
- 7:45Speaker 4: be a lot. There could be a lot of value
- 7:46Speaker 4: there for the Seattle crack, and so that'll be the
- 7:50Speaker 4: question mark I guess is how do they work together?
- 7:53Speaker 4: Are they are they independent silos or do the four
- 7:56Speaker 4: of them work closely together focused on a common goal.
- 8:00Speaker 4: That remains to be seen. But you know, Patrick's got
- 8:03Speaker 4: a lot of experience with evaluating talent, especially in Europe,
- 8:06Speaker 4: and that could play into some of the future decisions
- 8:09Speaker 4: making making the Krack and have to do, whether it's
- 8:12Speaker 4: the draft or free agency or even future trades.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Did many of you happen to read the Kraken news
- 8:19Speaker 3: release on this and where Patrick Golvin mentioned the practice
- 8:26Speaker 3: facility because it is getting major, major, major traction in Vancouver.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It's a sore spot. And Arthur Sheilov's mentioned this in
- 8:38Speaker 3: Pittsburgh when he went to Pittsburgh from Vancouver, that they
- 8:42Speaker 3: have their own facility the Canucks did not, And then
- 8:45Speaker 3: Alvin slides it right in there and also mention the
- 8:50Speaker 3: practice facility. It's almost kind of like we dare not
- 8:55Speaker 3: speak its name in Vancouver.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Where the Kraken had to do with this. It helps
- 9:01Speaker 3: make your job easier when you can give your players
- 9:05Speaker 3: a state of the year facility that has their own
- 9:08Speaker 3: dressing room, that has their own recovery center, that has
- 9:12Speaker 3: their own place to basically unwind, that has their own
- 9:15Speaker 3: place to you know, eat and take advantage of top
- 9:19Speaker 3: of the line nutrition. I mean, this is a facility
- 9:21Speaker 3: now that I mean al I can't believe I'm saying
- 9:23Speaker 3: this here is now five years old, but is still
- 9:26Speaker 3: considered the best in the entire league. It's not the
- 9:29Speaker 3: main hook that will draw free agents. It's not the
- 9:33Speaker 3: main hook that will convince guys to wave. There are
- 9:36Speaker 3: no movement clauses, no trade clauses, but it is a
- 9:39Speaker 3: very very important piece of the pie to convince a
- 9:43Speaker 3: player to come over. It will be where they live,
- 9:46Speaker 3: work and play from a hockey sense. So it's still
- 9:49Speaker 3: getting major traction right now from what we've heard today.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know, I've seen every other practice
- 9:55Speaker 4: facility in the league, and of the thirty one other
- 9:58Speaker 4: other facilities, I can only think of one that would
- 10:01Speaker 4: be on par with with uh casey I, which is
- 10:06Speaker 4: the Florida Panthers. Now you might say, well, it's better
- 10:09Speaker 4: because the weather's better. You can't control that in Seattle,
- 10:11Speaker 4: so the facility itself would be on par But other
- 10:14Speaker 4: than that, you're You're right, it is the best in
- 10:17Speaker 4: the league, and I and players absolutely factor that in
- 10:20Speaker 4: when they know that that's going to be a piece
- 10:24Speaker 4: of the pie as far as you know, is it
- 10:26Speaker 4: going to support what they need? Is it is it
- 10:29Speaker 4: going to help their team win? Does it provide uh,
- 10:33Speaker 4: you know, the support they need? So, uh, it's an
- 10:36Speaker 4: important part part of the overall uh recipe and uh,
- 10:39Speaker 4: you know, I agree best in the league.
- 10:42Speaker 3: In that release, by the way, it was all being
- 10:44Speaker 3: that said quote. The practice facility is phenomenal, best in
- 10:49Speaker 3: the league. The support the crack And have and or
- 10:52Speaker 3: the support of the Crack And in the city and
- 10:53Speaker 3: region was evident every time I've been down there for
- 10:56Speaker 3: games as a visiting team. You can feel the fans
- 11:00Speaker 3: energy and feel the identity of the team playing fast hockey.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Those compliments out of Patrick Alvin from the get go,
- 11:06Speaker 3: after news came out that he was officially brought on board.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Here for today, what I want to get out here
- 11:12Speaker 3: is the hidden meaning of where the Kraken feel that
- 11:14Speaker 3: they're at right now with pro scouting, because we're going
- 11:16Speaker 3: to see potentially a lot of this having to do
- 11:19Speaker 3: in connection with Alvien and how he'll orchestrate this turnaround
- 11:23Speaker 3: with Jason Botterral for Somemer that's going to potentially face
- 11:27Speaker 3: a lot of turnover. And we'll see by the results
- 11:29Speaker 3: of this audit. And I'll have more on this here
- 11:30Speaker 3: in a bit. But when you look back at Patrick
- 11:33Speaker 3: Alvin and Vancouver the misses, maybe you can throw Vincent
- 11:37Speaker 3: day Arnay in there, Danton Heinen of ander Kine the
- 11:41Speaker 3: hits though, Keith for Surewood Teddy blueger Peu's suitor, Dakota
- 11:45Speaker 3: or Dakota, Joshua and Nikita is the door off that
- 11:50Speaker 3: last name right there, that's a player on this roster
- 11:54Speaker 3: you would love to have, you would love to take.
- 11:57Speaker 3: He's big, he's mean, he's nafty, he plays for and
- 12:01Speaker 3: he's gotten attitudes. So this is I think where if
- 12:05Speaker 3: you're looking at the meat of this, what can Patrick
- 12:08Speaker 3: Alvin help do with Jason Bottle to turn the crank
- 12:12Speaker 3: when it comes down to trades and when it when
- 12:15Speaker 3: it comes down as well to July one.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that you know, when it comes to
- 12:20Speaker 4: you know, trades and free agency, rarely do you give
- 12:23Speaker 4: an opportunity to add you know, a one C or
- 12:26Speaker 4: even even a one w It's that middle six where
- 12:29Speaker 4: you know you can you can fortify your roster. It's
- 12:33Speaker 4: that second D pairing where you can fortify your blue
- 12:36Speaker 4: line and if you know you get the right person
- 12:39Speaker 4: there to make the right deal, you do get a
- 12:41Speaker 4: guy like Zadorov that that that that can be that person.
- 12:45Speaker 4: So I would expect that Patrick Alvin will will you know,
- 12:49Speaker 4: play a role in uh, you know, looking and finding
- 12:52Speaker 4: finding some help helping to find some of those players. Well.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I think also this is a big play for trade
- 12:56Speaker 3: time in July one, as I said, because I think
- 12:58Speaker 3: potentially al you know, when we're talking about what this
- 13:01Speaker 3: team is going to do, you know, when this audit
- 13:03Speaker 3: is revealed and the results of this are coming, Todd
- 13:07Speaker 3: Lightwickie said, we're not gonna probably rebuild, but check back
- 13:10Speaker 3: with us later. Now that being said, unless there really
- 13:12Speaker 3: is a sharp turnaround, maybe a philosophy here, you're looking
- 13:18Speaker 3: at a retool that is going to be underway very
- 13:22Speaker 3: very very soon. So this I think shows potentially there's
- 13:27Speaker 3: no more play in this game of running it back
- 13:30Speaker 3: here on this roster. Everett said this, others have said this.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I'll say it. The familiar faces you have become accustomed
- 13:38Speaker 3: to in the first five years, it might be time
- 13:41Speaker 3: here to move on. In the UFA category, there's Jaden Schwartz,
- 13:45Speaker 3: There's Jamie Alexiak, There's Ellie Tolvenan. We'll see what happens
- 13:48Speaker 3: here with this Shane Rice situation and what happens here
- 13:51Speaker 3: with trade time. There are other RFAs that they have
- 13:54Speaker 3: to take care of now, but July one is going
- 13:58Speaker 3: to be very tough Albeca. As we saw this a
- 14:01Speaker 3: year ago, so many names out there, but then with
- 14:05Speaker 3: the cap going up, everyone's getting resigned now these days,
- 14:08Speaker 3: so you're not just throwing money at the obvious big fish.
- 14:12Speaker 3: But what can you do if you're going to go
- 14:15Speaker 3: the free agent route to not just replenished skill, but
- 14:19Speaker 3: to find the right fit that can play the lane
- 14:21Speaker 3: Lambert way? And I think most importantly here for me,
- 14:25Speaker 3: what can this front office do to sniff out the
- 14:27Speaker 3: right kind of culture guy as well?
- 14:29Speaker 4: Well? I think it's a it's a combination of you know,
- 14:33Speaker 4: finding the right player, but also trying to find that
- 14:36Speaker 4: that right player that is looking to solve something that
- 14:39Speaker 4: you can solve for them. What problem are they trying
- 14:41Speaker 4: to solve? And is it getting closer to family, because
- 14:45Speaker 4: you've got family in the Pacific Northwest. Is it guys
- 14:49Speaker 4: on the team that you've played with that you want
- 14:51Speaker 4: to get back to and play with again. Is it
- 14:52Speaker 4: a coach that you're familiar with in Lane Lambert, You
- 14:55Speaker 4: know what problem are they trying to solve? Because maybe
- 14:57Speaker 4: they're in a situation where they aren't performing well with
- 15:01Speaker 4: a coach that they have, or they don't like the
- 15:03Speaker 4: roster in the location. If you can solve that problem
- 15:06Speaker 4: for them, that everything else that you can throw at them,
- 15:09Speaker 4: whether it's money, whether it's practice facility, and all the
- 15:12Speaker 4: other benefits to come with Seattle, that's just going to
- 15:14Speaker 4: be a show on the cake. So trying to figure
- 15:16Speaker 4: out those problems is a big part of that free agency.
- 15:20Speaker 3: We're going to get to our conversation with assistant coach
- 15:24Speaker 3: Pascal Vincent, also ian Fanessad Thomas Drants on the airwaves
- 15:28Speaker 3: here on ninety three three kjar earlier today to discuss
- 15:32Speaker 3: all of this. I want to move on to Pascal Vincent.
- 15:36Speaker 3: He'll be brought on here to fill the role that
- 15:39Speaker 3: Jess Campbell left and we'll see what happens with her
- 15:42Speaker 3: next move. But a lot of the talk around him
- 15:45Speaker 3: has been the ability to create offense with his ideas
- 15:49Speaker 3: and his concepts and listen, no one's going to you know,
- 15:52Speaker 3: dig in and I think get the playbook out of
- 15:54Speaker 3: him in this case, But there's also power play experience
- 15:58Speaker 3: for him, I think which factors. And we'll see how
- 16:00Speaker 3: all this rounds out, because as of right now, this
- 16:04Speaker 3: is still very very much a fluid situation with his
- 16:07Speaker 3: role but Laane Lambert very much known as a defensive guy.
- 16:13Speaker 3: To help get this team back on track. Now comes
- 16:16Speaker 3: the part where you have to find a way to
- 16:19Speaker 3: try to coach offense more out of these guys. Talent's
- 16:21Speaker 3: got a lot here to do with this, but I
- 16:24Speaker 3: think in the Pascal Vinson conversation, this begins, first off,
- 16:28Speaker 3: what can you do to find the right type of
- 16:31Speaker 3: fit here to get the most out of someone like
- 16:34Speaker 3: Matty Beaneers. What can you do to find the right
- 16:37Speaker 3: type of fit, say fingers crossed, they can resign him,
- 16:41Speaker 3: Bobby McMahon, can you push him maybe over thirty goals?
- 16:45Speaker 3: I think for me as well, to the development side
- 16:47Speaker 3: of this is a very very important thing. So what
- 16:50Speaker 3: can you do to not just get more out of
- 16:53Speaker 3: benears who are still relatively young right now at the NHL.
- 16:57Speaker 3: But what can he do with Berkeley Catton when O'Brien arrives,
- 17:01Speaker 3: what can he do with him? Should Tyson Jugnat make
- 17:04Speaker 3: this roster, what can he do with him? Uh, there's
- 17:07Speaker 3: Ryan Winterton who we saw become, you know, a larger
- 17:12Speaker 3: part of the penalty kill confidence with a puck. His
- 17:14Speaker 3: speed is well taken over. Then, Jacob Malanson, what can
- 17:18Speaker 3: you do to also maximize his gifts along with natural
- 17:22Speaker 3: born grit that lies inside of him?
- 17:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know Pascal Vinstance known as a
- 17:28Speaker 4: development coach, he's a he's a he's a teaching coach,
- 17:30Speaker 4: and so you know, you would expect him to to
- 17:34Speaker 4: help the younger players, to help develop the young guys,
- 17:37Speaker 4: the prospects, the guys you mentioned. But I think that
- 17:40Speaker 4: he'd be the first one to also say that you know,
- 17:42Speaker 4: when you when you have a ten year career in
- 17:45Speaker 4: the NHL or longer if you're lucky, development never stops.
- 17:49Speaker 4: And so he's not going to just focus on on
- 17:52Speaker 4: the young guys. He's going to look to every guy
- 17:54Speaker 4: that's willing to learn, is willing to listen. It's willing
- 17:57Speaker 4: to ask some questions and he'll give some feedback. There's
- 18:00Speaker 4: a development opportunity there, and I think this roster of guys,
- 18:03Speaker 4: certainly coming out of last season, has that type of
- 18:06Speaker 4: mentality and is not resistant to that. So development coach, Yeah,
- 18:10Speaker 4: he's going to be topped to do a lot in
- 18:13Speaker 4: that area, just with the young guys alone they got
- 18:16Speaker 4: in the prospects coming up, but I think across the
- 18:18Speaker 4: entire roster there's an opportunity.
- 18:20Speaker 3: I mean you go back and look at Columbus here.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I mean Karil mark Schenko, how much he's grown, Adam
- 18:25Speaker 3: fan Tilly as well, he had him in the very
- 18:28Speaker 3: infancy of his career. And I'll even use Zach Warensky
- 18:30Speaker 3: maybe as an example because Defen's been take a longer
- 18:32Speaker 3: time here to develop and with their curve as well.
- 18:35Speaker 3: He already had hit twenty goals before Pascal Vinson got
- 18:39Speaker 3: there to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but then we saw
- 18:42Speaker 3: Warensky hit another level as well. That makes me when
- 18:46Speaker 3: you think of players like that, excited for what he
- 18:49Speaker 3: can do in players like Beniers, In players like Kat
- 18:53Speaker 3: and Jacobrien as well, Tyson jug not again using him
- 18:56Speaker 3: as an example, and then Winnipeg Mark Schifley. When he
- 18:59Speaker 3: was there, Mark Stathley was a young player and look
- 19:02Speaker 3: what he's grown into. Nikolai Eelers when he was there,
- 19:05Speaker 3: Look what he's developed into, and as well Jacob Truba,
- 19:09Speaker 3: big mean, nasty, right shot defenseman.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you don't get Coach of the Year
- 19:16Speaker 4: at the AHL twice by mistake. Right, It's one of
- 19:20Speaker 4: those things where it's not just about winning games, it's
- 19:24Speaker 4: it's about the success you have with your rosters. So yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 4: you can say it's the AHL not the NHL, but
- 19:30Speaker 4: it doesn't matter. You're developing players. And I think that's
- 19:32Speaker 4: something that's in dire need right now for the Seattle Cracking.
- 19:35Speaker 4: So all those names you mentioned, he's you know, he's
- 19:39Speaker 4: had the he's had an ability to affect their games
- 19:42Speaker 4: in positive ways, and I'm looking forward to seeing what
- 19:44Speaker 4: he can do for some of these players on the Cracking.
- 19:47Speaker 3: And again Winnipeg when he was there, he moved on
- 19:50Speaker 3: to Manitoba taking a head coaching role, and then even
- 19:53Speaker 3: some players that he coached, he was able to elevate
- 19:56Speaker 3: them to NHL roles as well. So that's something that's
- 19:59Speaker 3: got to be I think thing taken into and I
- 20:01Speaker 3: think we're gonna have a bit of a good conversation
- 20:03Speaker 3: when it comes down to the concept of building relationships,
- 20:07Speaker 3: because in the modern day coaching phase, you're not just
- 20:10Speaker 3: pointing a finger and ordering a player to go here
- 20:12Speaker 3: and there with a heavy hand. You've got to find
- 20:14Speaker 3: a way, no matter your age, as a coach, to
- 20:17Speaker 3: relate to the younger player. And I think maybe you
- 20:21Speaker 3: go back at what he did with Winnipeg in jumping
- 20:24Speaker 3: on board back in twenty eleven and then leaving in
- 20:27Speaker 3: twenty sixteen. This is what interests me. I think here
- 20:31Speaker 3: with his background, he was at one point a Paul
- 20:34Speaker 3: Maurice disciple, and Paul Maurice might be going to the
- 20:38Speaker 3: Hall of Fame here pretty soon based on the years
- 20:40Speaker 3: he's put in and the Cups now that he has won.
- 20:43Speaker 3: That's some pretty serious street credit that he brings in
- 20:45Speaker 3: here with with this position.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Oh, he absolutely does. And again, you know, as a
- 20:51Speaker 4: coach that gets to work alongside of other coaches, you
- 20:54Speaker 4: glean things from them as well along the way and
- 20:57Speaker 4: you build you know, your resume, your ale.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Uh.
- 21:01Speaker 4: And he works with with some greats. So again, Mike
- 21:05Speaker 4: I you know, I can't emphasize it enough. I think
- 21:08Speaker 4: that that he could be the strongest coach in the
- 21:13Speaker 4: history of the Krack and the short history of the
- 21:15Speaker 4: Kraken that has the ability to positively affect the youth,
- 21:19Speaker 4: the prospects, the guys coming up, the guys like Maddy Ebineer's,
- 21:23Speaker 4: like like Shane Wright, like Berkeley Catton in in a
- 21:26Speaker 4: significant way where they do turn a corner and you go, Wow,
- 21:30Speaker 4: what a big jump this season from last season. So
- 21:34Speaker 4: the writing will be on the wall when, you know,
- 21:36Speaker 4: when when he when he gets his hands so to speak,
- 21:39Speaker 4: on these players, when he starts building those relationships. But
- 21:42Speaker 4: I would expect that that that improvement to happen because
- 21:45Speaker 4: of him.
- 21:46Speaker 3: What's he think right now with this roster and how's
- 21:48Speaker 3: he gonna work coming into Seattle? Without further ado, our
- 21:52Speaker 3: conversation right here with a new Kraken assistant coach all right,
- 21:54Speaker 3: moving on joining us now by phone is new Kraken
- 21:57Speaker 3: assistant coach Pascal Vince and hired earlier on Thursday. It
- 22:02Speaker 3: is official, sign sealed and delivered and he joins us
- 22:06Speaker 3: right now here on the Emergency podcast edition of the
- 22:09Speaker 3: Overtime podcast, Pascal, thank you for joining us here, Congratulations
- 22:12Speaker 3: here on the move, Welcome to Seattle, And first off,
- 22:16Speaker 3: what does it mean to now become one and the
- 22:19Speaker 3: same with the City of Seattle and joint Land Lambert Staff.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Well, I'm I'm first of all, thank you for having me.
- 22:25Speaker 5: I'm quite excited to be joining the team. I've I've
- 22:30Speaker 5: had a few conversations with Lane and Jason, and you know,
- 22:36Speaker 5: for me at this stage of my life and where
- 22:38Speaker 5: I'm at in my career, it's all about the people.
- 22:41Speaker 5: And I've been to Seattle and playing against the Kraken
- 22:44Speaker 5: over the last few years. But for me, it's all
- 22:46Speaker 5: about the people. And and uh, I've done my homework obviously,
- 22:51Speaker 5: they've done their homeworks, and it's a it's a good
- 22:53Speaker 5: it's a good sit for them, it's a good fit
- 22:55Speaker 5: for me. Yeah, quite excited about the opportunity.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Yeah, hockey, Sir, has a lot of six degrees of separation.
- 23:02Speaker 3: They say it is a small world. So there's a
- 23:04Speaker 3: few things that I'll get to on that end. But
- 23:06Speaker 3: thank you for joining us here, and congratulations once again
- 23:08Speaker 3: on the new role. And I'm curious about previously in
- 23:13Speaker 3: the American Hockey League. I mean, it's not easy packing
- 23:15Speaker 3: up from a job that treated you well, it had results,
- 23:19Speaker 3: and it was just minutes away from where you grew
- 23:22Speaker 3: up in Laval. But the NHL is the NHL. So
- 23:26Speaker 3: what was the easiest and the toughest parts with what
- 23:29Speaker 3: you had to weigh with eventually moving on, Well.
- 23:33Speaker 5: It's not very often in coaching or professional sports that
- 23:39Speaker 5: you can work in the city you grew in. I
- 23:42Speaker 5: obviously been. I grew up in Laval. So being part
- 23:47Speaker 5: of the organization here, the Montreal Canadians, and to be
- 23:51Speaker 5: on the inside looking in and understanding how the function
- 23:55Speaker 5: I've been growing a lot. But to leave the organization
- 23:58Speaker 5: is quite difficult because it's it's on one side, it's
- 24:02Speaker 5: it's home and it's my My family is closed. My
- 24:07Speaker 5: parents are a little bit older, so that human side
- 24:11Speaker 5: is a bit difficult. But at the same time, we've
- 24:16Speaker 5: been traveling, so we we spent ten years in Winnipeg,
- 24:19Speaker 5: a few years in Columbus, back in Montreal, and now
- 24:23Speaker 5: we're going to head to the West coast in Seattle
- 24:26Speaker 5: and beautiful city. But again, it's it's all about the people.
- 24:30Speaker 5: For me, it's getting to keep evolving as a coach
- 24:34Speaker 5: as a person getting to learn new stuff and and
- 24:37Speaker 5: bring my experience to the coaching staff to the players,
- 24:41Speaker 5: being part of the solution. I mean, it's there's It's
- 24:46Speaker 5: never easy to leave an organization, even more so when
- 24:50Speaker 5: it's your hometown. But the the offer and the opportunity
- 24:55Speaker 5: to work in Seattle, with the people already there was
- 24:59Speaker 5: two great to not to take it.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And that next chance in the NHL has arrived as
- 25:05Speaker 3: Pascal Vinston joining us right now. A lot of what
- 25:08Speaker 3: we get to with you is development. And I go
- 25:11Speaker 3: back to Columbus for example, and what they're growing with
- 25:14Speaker 3: Adam Fantilly, Careil, Mark Schenko, even a guy like Zach
- 25:17Speaker 3: Warenski who took a longer curve as a defenseman. But
- 25:21Speaker 3: you were there for all of them. There's Winnipeg with
- 25:24Speaker 3: Mark Schifley, Nikolai Eelers when he was there, Jacob Truebau
- 25:27Speaker 3: when he was there. Pascal, what do you like about
- 25:30Speaker 3: the krack and roster and the kind of young talent
- 25:34Speaker 3: just from off the top that you get to work
- 25:35Speaker 3: with here.
- 25:36Speaker 5: I like, I like the I like the fact that
- 25:41Speaker 5: they've been growing there. I like the vision of Jason
- 25:45Speaker 5: and Lane. I like how they're getting better every year.
- 25:49Speaker 5: I like how they drafted. But for me, development is
- 25:54Speaker 5: not related to to an age. Whether you're younger or
- 26:01Speaker 5: an older person, there's always a way to get better.
- 26:04Speaker 5: And that's that's what I do myself. I'm trying to
- 26:07Speaker 5: evolve and get better as a person. And I love
- 26:10Speaker 5: getting to know the people first because I think if
- 26:13Speaker 5: you get to know the people, if if you really
- 26:16Speaker 5: get to know them and and share with them and
- 26:20Speaker 5: sometimes vulnerable there, there's there's a connection that is being made.
- 26:25Speaker 5: And the NHL, those hockey players are different in a
- 26:31Speaker 5: good way. They're they're smart. It's different than it was
- 26:35Speaker 5: twenty years ago. They're they're coming in way more prepared,
- 26:40Speaker 5: way more informed, and and to get to know them,
- 26:44Speaker 5: to push them to limits that they didn't even know
- 26:48Speaker 5: is the goal, and to do it in a positive manner.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Building relationship partnerships with those players individually so we grow
- 26:58Speaker 5: as a team, because that's the only chance we got
- 27:00Speaker 5: to win. The teams that are winning, they're close, they
- 27:04Speaker 5: believe in each other, and the coaching staff is there
- 27:07Speaker 5: to support them. And you know, that's what drives me.
- 27:13Speaker 5: And to do it in the best league in the
- 27:16Speaker 5: world is even more so important and it's a great achievement.
- 27:21Speaker 5: But to be able to do it in Seattle now
- 27:23Speaker 5: is something that I'm quite excited about.
- 27:26Speaker 3: We got word that you've got involvement in quite a lot,
- 27:29Speaker 3: and the role is still kind of taking shape here
- 27:31Speaker 3: at this point. Lane Lambert though, gave you a great compliment.
- 27:35Speaker 3: He hinted at the kind of work and ideas you've
- 27:37Speaker 3: done to help generate offense. To you, what are some
- 27:41Speaker 3: of the fundamentals you need to bring the right concepts
- 27:45Speaker 3: to players in this day and age.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Well, yeah, creating offenses, it's a combination of different things. Obviously,
- 27:55Speaker 5: best skills level is especially there at nowadays. The players
- 28:00Speaker 5: that the teams are drafting, they're already really skilled. It's
- 28:04Speaker 5: to put that together and how do we become fast
- 28:07Speaker 5: as a team, as as a as an organization when
- 28:12Speaker 5: we apply the concept. So I think we're gonna we're
- 28:16Speaker 5: going to discuss. We will talk about it. Lane obviously
- 28:22Speaker 5: is the head coach. He will make the last decision.
- 28:24Speaker 5: But I will bring a few concepts, a few ways
- 28:29Speaker 5: to create a little bit more offense. But again, the
- 28:33Speaker 5: challenge is is it's a challenge and it's not in
- 28:38Speaker 5: a sense that it takes time to get to know
- 28:40Speaker 5: the players to build that trust factor. But once it's there,
- 28:44Speaker 5: it's there for a long time and that's how we
- 28:45Speaker 5: can roll as a team.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Coaches often take a little bit of who they've worked
- 28:50Speaker 3: for with them from time to time, and I can't
- 28:53Speaker 3: help but think of a guy like Paul Maurice who's
- 28:56Speaker 3: been doing this for decades and the mark that he
- 28:59Speaker 3: is leaving here on this game. You worked with him
- 29:02Speaker 3: in Winnipeg. What's the most important thing you learned while
- 29:05Speaker 3: working with him?
- 29:06Speaker 5: Well, yes, I've learned quite a bit next to him.
- 29:12Speaker 5: He's such a good hockey coach, but he's an even
- 29:16Speaker 5: better person. I've I've learned in so many ways, how
- 29:22Speaker 5: to prepare, how to deal with adversity, managing older players,
- 29:27Speaker 5: managing younger players, you know, facing adversity and turn that
- 29:35Speaker 5: into something positive. But the thing the two things I've
- 29:39Speaker 5: learned the most, Well, I've learned a lot, but the
- 29:41Speaker 5: few things that stayed with me the most I should
- 29:44Speaker 5: say is how humble he is and not too high,
- 29:49Speaker 5: not too low. We're never as good as we think
- 29:52Speaker 5: we are, but we're never as bad as we think
- 29:54Speaker 5: we are so finding solutions even when it's hard, finding
- 29:59Speaker 5: a way to bring some joy to the rink. When
- 30:02Speaker 5: things are hard, it's not fun, but we can't find
- 30:05Speaker 5: ways to make those hard moments a challenge and turn
- 30:11Speaker 5: that into something positive. So that would be one thing,
- 30:14Speaker 5: and the other thing would be is never ending desire
- 30:17Speaker 5: to get better as a coach, as a person, he's
- 30:20Speaker 5: a cure, he's got a curious mind, he's very intellectual,
- 30:25Speaker 5: very smart, speaks really well, but it comes from his
- 30:30Speaker 5: desire to get better. And to me, this is a
- 30:33Speaker 5: great sign of amazing leadership, because one when you have
- 30:39Speaker 5: a guy like him finding ways and spending the time
- 30:43Speaker 5: to get better, it's very contagious and everyone everybody wants
- 30:47Speaker 5: to get better and everybody's trying to push a little
- 30:49Speaker 5: bit harder. The respect he has for the game and
- 30:52Speaker 5: the players, that's something that really amazed me. So I
- 30:56Speaker 5: took a lot from him, and I feel very fortunate
- 30:59Speaker 5: that I have a chance to work with him for
- 31:01Speaker 5: almost for what eight years, nine years, So I've.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Been lucky Pascal. Situations may vary from team to team here,
- 31:09Speaker 3: but what kind of personality makes the right kind of
- 31:12Speaker 3: assistant coach? For the situation that you're walking into and
- 31:16Speaker 3: the kind of coach that you want to be.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Well, I've been a head coach most of my life,
- 31:21Speaker 5: so I know what it feels to be a head coach,
- 31:23Speaker 5: and because of that, I think I can be a
- 31:26Speaker 5: really good assistant coach. I know how it feels to
- 31:28Speaker 5: be in that position, and sometimes it's good. Sometimes you
- 31:33Speaker 5: feel pretty lonely on that island as a head coach.
- 31:37Speaker 6: So I'd like to be that.
- 31:38Speaker 5: I'd like to be the man, the guy, the coach
- 31:41Speaker 5: for Lane that I would want to hire myself if
- 31:45Speaker 5: I was a head coach. So I'm going to be
- 31:48Speaker 5: I'm going to bring my experience as the work ethic,
- 31:52Speaker 5: loyalty to him, to the team, to the players, to
- 31:55Speaker 5: the organization, finding solutions, basically bringing my best and and
- 32:03Speaker 5: and that's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to bring
- 32:05Speaker 5: my best. I'm gonna I'm going to be there to support,
- 32:08Speaker 5: to challenge at times, but I'm here to be part
- 32:12Speaker 5: of something that is bigger than just myself being part
- 32:15Speaker 5: of the coaching staff, being part of the Seattle Kraken
- 32:19Speaker 5: and and to me, that's that's how I function. I'm
- 32:23Speaker 5: I have no ego. It's not about me. It never
- 32:25Speaker 5: been about me. I'm a team first kind of guy,
- 32:28Speaker 5: and and I can't wait to start working with those people.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Oh, Pascal, we appreciate this. We look forward to seeing
- 32:34Speaker 3: you here out here, very very soon. And hey, finally
- 32:37Speaker 3: we hear from a lot of people. You've got a
- 32:39Speaker 3: big nature playground where you're moving to here in the
- 32:42Speaker 3: Pacific Northwest, I mean away from hockey. Are you more
- 32:45Speaker 3: of an outdoors guy? You more of a golf guy?
- 32:47Speaker 3: Are you more of a get out and hike kind
- 32:49Speaker 3: of guy? Or roam the city kind of guy?
- 32:52Speaker 5: I'm more of a I grew up in a big city, well,
- 32:54Speaker 5: a big city, Montreal. I grew up in the city,
- 32:57Speaker 5: so I'm more. But I'm a very curious first, and
- 33:00Speaker 5: so I'm willing to learn new stuff. I don't I
- 33:04Speaker 5: didn't play golf a whole lot I play. I play
- 33:06Speaker 5: a lot of I did. I don't have the time now.
- 33:09Speaker 5: But pickle ball is something I like.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Oh yes, but I like to be though.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I like to be on my bike and running and
- 33:17Speaker 5: go out outside and read. So I I but I'm curious.
- 33:21Speaker 5: So I can't wait to be part of this of
- 33:25Speaker 5: the community in Seattle and learn and and try to
- 33:29Speaker 5: fit in.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Actually, well, if you say pick a ball around here,
- 33:32Speaker 3: you have found a lot of friends official stage sport,
- 33:35Speaker 3: and it's not too hard to go find a paddle
- 33:37Speaker 3: and find an open court here somewhere. But hey, Pascal,
- 33:40Speaker 3: appreciate this, Thank you very much, Thank you all right.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Great to have Pascal Vincent joining us here on overtime,
- 33:46Speaker 3: Mike Benton al Kaniski, We're gonna have some final thoughts
- 33:48Speaker 3: a bit, but pretty important to check him with more
- 33:51Speaker 3: reaction based on today's news earlier with Patrick Alvin joining
- 33:55Speaker 3: the Crack in front office Ian forness earlier today. You
- 33:59Speaker 3: can hear them twelve to three week days on ninety
- 34:02Speaker 3: three to three k JR. Yeah, Thomas Drant of the
- 34:05Speaker 3: Athletic on the show My Mind.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Ian, to be totally honest with you, the Krakens issue
- 34:11Speaker 6: since inception has been a lack of star players. And
- 34:15Speaker 6: I think they know this, and I think we know
- 34:17Speaker 6: they know this because of their pursuit of our Timmy
- 34:19Speaker 6: Panaren prior to the Olympic break this past spring. They
- 34:24Speaker 6: need stars. They don't need good players like Bobby McMahon.
- 34:28Speaker 6: They have a lot of good players. They've often had
- 34:30Speaker 6: a lot of good players. In fact, this team's usually
- 34:32Speaker 6: been pretty deep with good players. What they've lacked is
- 34:36Speaker 6: the difference makers, the star level players. You know, Matty
- 34:38Speaker 6: Veniers hasn't quite gotten there. Obviously, Shane Wright hasn't quite
- 34:42Speaker 6: gotten there. You know, they have some really good defensemen,
- 34:45Speaker 6: they have some solid forward depth. They've placed some interesting
- 34:49Speaker 6: reclamation bets on guys like Capocaco that have paid off.
- 34:55Speaker 6: And it doesn't matter because this is the starter of
- 34:56Speaker 6: the league. You fundamentally need great players to win. And
- 35:01Speaker 6: one of the issues the crack Can have had is
- 35:03Speaker 6: that they kind of haven't been bad enough to hang
- 35:06Speaker 6: out in the part of the draft where you get
- 35:08Speaker 6: you know, first dips access to those guys. They're picking
- 35:12Speaker 6: what seventh in the draft order this this year, they'll
- 35:14Speaker 6: get a really good prospect, but there's going to be
- 35:16Speaker 6: a material difference between that really good prospect and your
- 35:19Speaker 6: McKenna ivar Stenberg types that will go one too at
- 35:23Speaker 6: the NHL Entry Draft, And those are the types of players,
- 35:26Speaker 6: those are the types of difference makers that the Kraken needs. So,
- 35:30Speaker 6: you know, in my mind, anyway, I think it was
- 35:33Speaker 6: fine given sort of how Seattle was pacing and where
- 35:36Speaker 6: they were in the standings, and how important it is
- 35:38Speaker 6: in your market for that to stand out in a
- 35:43Speaker 6: crowded field to buy. But I don't know that you
- 35:47Speaker 6: necessarily have to chase it by breaking the bank for
- 35:51Speaker 6: a Bobby McMahon type. You know, more than anything, I
- 35:54Speaker 6: think the krack and need to be diligent in avoiding
- 35:58Speaker 6: the small move that maybe prevents you down the line
- 36:01Speaker 6: from making the sort of big move, the tectonic, you know, land,
- 36:05Speaker 6: the big star type player trade that I think the
- 36:08Speaker 6: krackt need to need to accomplish or pull off more
- 36:11Speaker 6: than they need just about anything. So, you know, really
- 36:14Speaker 6: the storyline that I'm most closely monitoring in Seattle is
- 36:18Speaker 6: the Shane Wright saga and whether or not that's a
- 36:21Speaker 6: shit that they end up playing over the course of
- 36:25Speaker 6: this offseason, perhaps in pursuit of, you know, a player
- 36:29Speaker 6: that has a shot or is already established as a
- 36:32Speaker 6: top of the lineup type piece.
- 36:34Speaker 3: All right, that was Ian Farness and Thomas Drantz from
- 36:37Speaker 3: earlier today, Very quick, it's June eleventh, and we are
- 36:42Speaker 3: still awaiting the final results here of this audit, and
- 36:46Speaker 3: from what I have gathered here with this. I spoke
- 36:51Speaker 3: with the team source who confirm that we should be
- 36:53Speaker 3: getting word very very soon on the results of this audit,
- 36:57Speaker 3: possibly as early next weeks. That would line up well
- 37:01Speaker 3: with what they're communicating to fans two season ticket holders
- 37:05Speaker 3: here with a new direction of this team where they're
- 37:07Speaker 3: going to be basically changing course, and then that would
- 37:10Speaker 3: lead basically seamlessly into the NHL drafts. So, I mean,
- 37:14Speaker 3: for how long al this is gone? I mean, are
- 37:17Speaker 3: they going to make a major move in the front
- 37:18Speaker 3: office or is this going to be just kind of
- 37:20Speaker 3: like a philosophy change, if you will. We really don't
- 37:24Speaker 3: know yet. I mean, this is kind of where we're
- 37:25Speaker 3: just kind of waiting on hand and or we're waiting
- 37:27Speaker 3: on pins and needles, if you can, to know what's
- 37:30Speaker 3: going to happen here from this audit. But I mean,
- 37:32Speaker 3: I think Patrick Alvin entering the equation of this shows
- 37:35Speaker 3: that change is going to be coming in some shape
- 37:39Speaker 3: or form, depending upon where they want to go with
- 37:40Speaker 3: this roster.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Yeah, a couple of things, Mike. Number one is, you know,
- 37:45Speaker 4: I believe we were expecting to hear something on this
- 37:47Speaker 4: audit in May. Okay, here we are June eleventh. I
- 37:51Speaker 4: don't care. You don't do this every year. You don't
- 37:54Speaker 4: do this audit every year. If you're going to do it,
- 37:56Speaker 4: do it right. If you need two more weeks to
- 37:58Speaker 4: do it right, I don't care. Take the two weeks
- 38:00Speaker 4: and do it right. I don't want to see it
- 38:02Speaker 4: rush just to get something out in May, So I
- 38:05Speaker 4: don't have an issue with it taking a little bit
- 38:07Speaker 4: more time. What I'm excited to know about is what
- 38:10Speaker 4: the results are, what the results are, and what the
- 38:13Speaker 4: actions are that are are going to be taking as
- 38:15Speaker 4: a result of those results, so to speak. So take
- 38:19Speaker 4: the time you need, uh, but be transparent. Let to
- 38:23Speaker 4: let the people know what was uncovered, what was recommended,
- 38:25Speaker 4: and what what you're going to do with those recommendations.
- 38:28Speaker 4: That's what That's what I'm interested in.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Here, and that I think is the biggest key when
- 38:31Speaker 3: you want to know what's going to happen. Transparency is
- 38:34Speaker 3: the biggest key to understand direction and then you pick
- 38:37Speaker 3: your direction and move with it. That is what I
- 38:40Speaker 3: think where a lot of folks are at, you know,
- 38:42Speaker 3: when they're asking where's this team going to go with this?
- 38:45Speaker 3: Because again to two courses, you're going to either tear
- 38:48Speaker 3: the whole thing down or you're going to aggressively retool.
- 38:51Speaker 3: And the HINTSAV said aggressively retool is dooring number two
- 38:55Speaker 3: or they're you know, walking in here with this. But again,
- 38:58Speaker 3: I think, you know, this audit is going to at
- 39:00Speaker 3: least show that there has to be a change in
- 39:03Speaker 3: how they're doing this. So transparency, yes, al I think
- 39:06Speaker 3: to be able to communicate what happened, what went wrong,
- 39:09Speaker 3: and how you're changing course and how you're doing things
- 39:12Speaker 3: here moving forward, that's gonna be the most important key
- 39:15Speaker 3: as we enter late June and early July.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's what they owed to the fans
- 39:20Speaker 4: to share that information, and I believe that Todd Lewicki
- 39:24Speaker 4: will do just that, and I think it'll be a
- 39:26Speaker 4: very comprehensive report that comes out from him that says
- 39:30Speaker 4: this is what we learn and this is what we're doing.
- 39:33Speaker 4: And I would expect nothing less than that.
- 39:35Speaker 3: We've seen some moving and shake, and already we'll see
- 39:37Speaker 3: when there's gonna be a little bit more movement maybe
- 39:39Speaker 3: for this roster, because once Stanley Cup Final is all done,
- 39:43Speaker 3: then trade news what's gonna happen with Dylan Larkin, Matt
- 39:46Speaker 3: Barzel's name is being thrown out there. Seattle t Birds fans,
- 39:49Speaker 3: I know that you're watching this. Jordan Kayro's name still
- 39:52Speaker 3: is floating out there. I think I mean July one, Listen,
- 39:56Speaker 3: We're not going to see much movement. It might be
- 39:58Speaker 3: one of the most free agency periods we have seen
- 40:02Speaker 3: in years, and we thought maybe last year was dry
- 40:04Speaker 3: as well. The trade market is going to run laps
- 40:07Speaker 3: around this off season with names that could possibly be moved.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Yeah. I agree. It's one of those things where you know,
- 40:14Speaker 4: sometimes it's a play from from from an agent to
- 40:18Speaker 4: help the player, you know, to put their name out there.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Sometimes it's not and the player actually wants to move,
- 40:23Speaker 4: but you don't know what no trade clauses they have
- 40:28Speaker 4: in their contract. Just because the names out there doesn't
- 40:30Speaker 4: mean that they're that that they could end up in Seattle. So, yeah,
- 40:33Speaker 4: all these names are are interesting. You got to find
- 40:37Speaker 4: the right person, as I said earlier, that's going to
- 40:40Speaker 4: be the right fit in Seattle. That solves a problem
- 40:43Speaker 4: for them as well as solving a problem for Seattle.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Cracken, We're gonna come right back by the way and
- 40:49Speaker 3: to have more conversation of course, with the NHL draft
- 40:52Speaker 3: in folks, we're going to drop some news here when
- 40:53Speaker 3: we're going to be doing all of this wall to
- 40:56Speaker 3: wall cover, it's going to be very exciting, but we're
- 40:58Speaker 3: going to get that news to you. The Stanley Cup
- 41:01Speaker 3: Final it will go six games, I mean five games
- 41:06Speaker 3: so far, riveting stuff, and this is the least that
- 41:11Speaker 3: you could ask for because you're not getting well. Folks
- 41:14Speaker 3: would call the glitzy match up here with say and
- 41:18Speaker 3: I'm just using, for example, the New York Rangers and
- 41:22Speaker 3: Los Angeles Kings, or major market Montreal, say versus major
- 41:27Speaker 3: market Chicago. So I mean to have Vegas in Carolina,
- 41:32Speaker 3: not your largest markets, but still plenty of star power
- 41:36Speaker 3: to throw around. I mean, Carolina is lacking it a
- 41:39Speaker 3: bit more, I think, compared to Vegas. But it just
- 41:42Speaker 3: seems like nothing is certain for these first five games.
- 41:46Speaker 3: And if I can use golf terms, it almost kind
- 41:48Speaker 3: of feels like the Ryder Cup, where you expect the unexpected.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Well, I mean, you know, I'm not a betting guy,
- 41:54Speaker 4: but I got to believe that a lot of people
- 41:55Speaker 4: went to Vegas and bet the under in a lot
- 41:58Speaker 4: of these games. As far as goring gos and it
- 42:00Speaker 4: certainly has not been the case. And I think it's
- 42:02Speaker 4: surprised a lot of people that the two best teams
- 42:05Speaker 4: in the NHL this year, going head to head for
- 42:08Speaker 4: the Cup are putting up three, four, five goals each
- 42:11Speaker 4: every game. And it's been very entertaining to watch, to
- 42:16Speaker 4: say the least. Yeah, I feel bad for the goalies obviously,
- 42:18Speaker 4: you know they don't want to get shout and allow
- 42:21Speaker 4: for or five six goals whatever.
- 42:22Speaker 3: If you didn't trap the pads on, you don't feel
- 42:24Speaker 3: bad for them at all.
- 42:25Speaker 4: But yeah, as a guy that never played goal I
- 42:29Speaker 4: love it.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Five games. We have seen drastic lead changes, We have
- 42:34Speaker 3: seen overtime. I would not be surprised if we see
- 42:38Speaker 3: seven games. I would not be surprised if we see
- 42:41Speaker 3: triple overtime in seven games.
- 42:44Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's going back to Vegas, but I suspect
- 42:47Speaker 4: this is going to go six at least six, likely seven.
- 42:50Speaker 3: All Right, we're gonna keep our eye on this in
- 42:52Speaker 3: the meantime, folks.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Again.
- 42:53Speaker 3: June twenty sixth day of one NHL draft crack and
- 42:56Speaker 3: half not one, but two first round picks will also
- 43:00Speaker 3: seventh overall and there is a delectable name potentially on
- 43:05Speaker 3: the menu, and what is also near the top, a
- 43:07Speaker 3: defenseman heavy draft as well. Maybe not gonna get your
- 43:11Speaker 3: shot at Gavin McKenna. It looks like Toronto loves him,
- 43:15Speaker 3: wants him, can't live without him, but still who might
- 43:18Speaker 3: be coming their way at seventh Overall, we'll talk more
- 43:22Speaker 3: about this leading up to the draft and also cover
- 43:24Speaker 3: news that we'll also share with you coming very very soon.
