- 0:17Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to Life TV Now, where we
- 0:20Speaker 1: unpack all matters of truth, faith and freedom. I'm Joe
- 0:23Speaker 1: artists Horn. Today is a continuum of an incredible conversation
- 0:27Speaker 1: that we started last week about living off grid and
- 0:31Speaker 1: the pursuit of course of self sustainability. Let me introduce
- 0:34Speaker 1: who's here, My best friend and beautiful wife, Catherine Horn.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And she's lived the homesteading lifestyle for over four decades,
- 0:48Speaker 1: long before it became a movement, building a life of
- 0:51Speaker 1: self reliance through raising livestock, growing food, and practical skills.
- 0:56Speaker 1: She's also dedicated herself to education and mentorship equip the
- 1:00Speaker 1: next generation with skills that truly matter today. She's the
- 1:03Speaker 1: founder of the Ozarks Homesteading Expo and Ladies Homesteading Camp.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Please welcome Cheryl Franklin. Ladies and gentlemen. If you missed
- 1:19Speaker 1: last week's program, go right now to wherever it is
- 1:22Speaker 1: that you archive and rewatch programs of Life TV Now,
- 1:25Speaker 1: whether that's Rumble or YouTube. But we're joined again today
- 1:29Speaker 1: by Cheryl Franklin. And we were talking about this last week,
- 1:33Speaker 1: this whole proposition, the idea of getting back to what
- 1:38Speaker 1: really ought to be our roots in terms of self sustainability,
- 1:42Speaker 1: growing our own food, living off grid should the grid
- 1:44Speaker 1: go down, and not being reliant on the very rapidly
- 1:48Speaker 1: depleting during an emergency grocery store. That whole construct is
- 1:53Speaker 1: going We saw this in twenty twenty. Ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:56Speaker 1: If toilet paper in twenty twenty is going to be
- 1:59Speaker 1: out nationwide, imagine if we experience an emp or an
- 2:03Speaker 1: emergency disaster that no one sees coming, and with the
- 2:07Speaker 1: way that the world is positioned right now, that could
- 2:09Speaker 1: happen literally at any moment. As we're taking for granted
- 2:12Speaker 1: each day that we have the grocery stores, imagine if
- 2:14Speaker 1: toilet paper is out nationwide, what food is going to do?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Exactly?
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm telling you people are going to be holding people
- 2:21Speaker 1: up a gunpoint and stealing bags of cereal. This is
- 2:24Speaker 1: not me doom speaking. This is me telling you we
- 2:26Speaker 1: are dealing with a Western civilization in particular that has
- 2:30Speaker 1: no comprehension of how to take care of oneself. If
- 2:33Speaker 1: our Babylonian construct isn't there to make sure that we
- 2:36Speaker 1: have all of our needs met. So this, Lady Cheryl Franklin,
- 2:40Speaker 1: is one that my family has learned under now for
- 2:42Speaker 1: the last over a year. They've been to many of
- 2:44Speaker 1: your conferences, many of your camping events. My oldest daughter,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Kate Taylor, who's in the crowd today, learned under you
- 2:52Speaker 1: last year and said, Dad, you gotta get Cheryl. She's
- 2:55Speaker 1: the real deal. She didn't just write a book but
- 2:57Speaker 1: then live in the city. She's living the life. She
- 2:59Speaker 1: knows what it is to jar and can and of course,
- 3:02Speaker 1: show of hands, how many of you remember your grandmother
- 3:06Speaker 1: or your grandfather. He's out back, he's got a water hose,
- 3:09Speaker 1: he's watering his garden. There's no such thing as organic
- 3:13Speaker 1: food labels, because it's just food as grown per the
- 3:17Speaker 1: way God would have had us grow food. They weren't
- 3:20Speaker 1: using herbicides and growth hormones and pesticides and artificial dyes.
- 3:24Speaker 1: They're just growing food. And then what they're doing with
- 3:26Speaker 1: it after the fact is they're putting it in things
- 3:29Speaker 1: like jars, because they knew that they might need food.
- 3:32Speaker 1: We're talking about in the dust bowl, the winter. Our
- 3:36Speaker 1: great grandparents came out of the dust bowl, the Great Depression,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and so they kept absolutely everything, you know, jars of
- 3:44Speaker 1: old nails, like the most random stuff you know, buildings
- 3:48Speaker 1: filled with stuff because you just didn't know, you didn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: And now we've got you know people, Oh my word,
- 3:53Speaker 1: to me, it's a sin before the Lord. When I
- 3:55Speaker 1: walk past some of these restaurants and literally eighty percent
- 3:58Speaker 1: of the plates have twenty to thirty percent of the
- 4:02Speaker 1: food going in the trash, and it's like, I'm not kidding.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I do a prayer and I say, Father, this is
- 4:07Speaker 1: a crime. This is a crime. We are so gluttonous,
- 4:10Speaker 1: we're taking for granted, we're so wasteful. I believe we
- 4:15Speaker 1: could be set for a great sobering. And I feel
- 4:18Speaker 1: like there are people out there not ready, most people
- 4:22Speaker 1: not ready at all. So let's just start at the beginning, Cheryl,
- 4:27Speaker 1: somebody watching this program, you know, the idea of homesteading
- 4:30Speaker 1: or growing their own food. It can feel like a
- 4:32Speaker 1: big life change, and it's I think one of the
- 4:35Speaker 1: things that stifles people from even getting started. Do you agree?
- 4:39Speaker 2: I do?
- 4:39Speaker 3: And partly because there's so much information out there, What
- 4:43Speaker 3: do I do?
- 4:44Speaker 2: How do I do it right?
- 4:45Speaker 3: Do they want to do all the thing like it
- 4:48Speaker 3: was and at once? And I understand the reasoning there,
- 4:52Speaker 3: because if you get an idea that something could happened tomorrow. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 3: you kind of want to learn how to do all
- 4:58Speaker 3: the things at once, and that's kind of why can
- 5:00Speaker 3: go to some of our events and kind of learn
- 5:01Speaker 3: a lot of things. But you can't always crash course
- 5:04Speaker 3: and things. So learn how to do some things well. Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 3: you know, and you know canning is the biggest thing.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Would's priority.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Start canning? Start? Want start in one place and do
- 5:17Speaker 2: it well.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Learn how to make bread, I mean bread is a
- 5:20Speaker 3: lot of people don't eat bread now for whatever reason.
- 5:22Speaker 3: But you know, if you're in a in a crisis situation,
- 5:25Speaker 3: you're gonna eat bread. And so learn how to make
- 5:27Speaker 3: bread and learn how to can the harvest that you have. Now,
- 5:31Speaker 3: if you can't start a garden, you know, start shopping
- 5:35Speaker 3: your farmer's markets or get talk to a neighbor.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Do you not much food? Some people throw away because
- 5:41Speaker 2: they have time to can it yet.
- 5:44Speaker 4: And they don't.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Help people that are growing, but they just couldn't use
- 5:51Speaker 1: all their zucchini and they're gonna toss that are feed
- 5:53Speaker 1: in the chickens.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah, make community or make friends with people who have gardens.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And there's so many now there's farmers markets popping up everywhere,
- 6:01Speaker 3: So you just go.
- 6:01Speaker 2: There to meet people and to make community.
- 6:04Speaker 3: And honestly, you know, to your to your talk about
- 6:08Speaker 3: if a crisis happens and the wheels fall off again,
- 6:11Speaker 3: or something happens to you know, an attack or a
- 6:15Speaker 3: natural disaster, even you know, which.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Is very real. It is very real in many parts
- 6:20Speaker 2: of the country.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I'm not so sure where any of us are prepared
- 6:24Speaker 3: for that, really, because it's going to be way worse
- 6:29Speaker 3: than what people could ever dream or imagine. But you know,
- 6:33Speaker 3: for smaller crises, you know, you can make sure you
- 6:38Speaker 3: have more than what grocery stores or what you most
- 6:42Speaker 3: people have in the refrigerator three days in the refrigerator.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Make sure you have a stash of you know, a
- 6:48Speaker 3: larger what they used to call it, of food for
- 6:52Speaker 3: your for yourself and your family.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Should something, you know, something happened all of a sudden.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and you said something towards the very end of
- 7:01Speaker 1: last week's program, And I'll just very quickly recap because
- 7:03Speaker 1: this was so profound to me, because this doesn't care
- 7:05Speaker 1: if you live in Manhattan, this doesn't care if you
- 7:07Speaker 1: live in the rural or the suburbs or the country.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It doesn't care where you live. But if you can't
- 7:12Speaker 1: start this year growing your own food, if that's just
- 7:15Speaker 1: too much, you can start buying nutritious food, like you said,
- 7:18Speaker 1: from people that are bringing it to places like farmers'
- 7:21Speaker 1: markets or your local health food stores at all. They're
- 7:24Speaker 1: so pick aggregate. H yeah, you pick places, but then
- 7:28Speaker 1: you take that food home and you learn how to
- 7:31Speaker 1: preserve it.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so that you could maybe have some of those
- 7:35Speaker 1: fruits and vegetables for a year out or longer if
- 7:38Speaker 1: you do it right.
- 7:38Speaker 3: And people say it's expensive, but if you buy it
- 7:40Speaker 3: in bulk, you're going to get things cheaper. You buy
- 7:42Speaker 3: a bushel of something, you're going to get it cheaper
- 7:44Speaker 3: than your if you're going to buy five tomatoes.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Right well, and a lot of people too are scared
- 7:50Speaker 4: about canning and things like that. But we went to
- 7:54Speaker 4: your actual homestead Ladies camp, which was phenomenal. If any
- 7:58Speaker 4: of you ladies out there a chance to go, it's amazing.
- 8:01Speaker 4: And she had people from literally all over the country
- 8:04Speaker 4: that came to the Homesteadying Ladies Camp. It was amazing.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Let's put the website up on the screen right now.
- 8:10Speaker 1: If you want to go and learn hands on let's
- 8:12Speaker 1: put it up on the screen.
- 8:13Speaker 4: It was amazing, and it really was that next step
- 8:17Speaker 4: kind of a thing where you go and they show
- 8:20Speaker 4: you step by step. Okay, this is why you don't
- 8:22Speaker 4: have to be afraid of pressure canning. Here's what you
- 8:25Speaker 4: need for a water bath and here's and the resources
- 8:29Speaker 4: you guys provided was incredible and Kate I was able
- 8:32Speaker 4: to go with Kate to that and we learned so
- 8:35Speaker 4: much and we ended up actually canning some of her
- 8:38Speaker 4: cucumbers from last year and we made relish and some
- 8:41Speaker 4: bread and butter pickles and stuff like that. So it
- 8:44Speaker 4: kind of took the fear of like, Okay, I don't
- 8:48Speaker 4: know how to pressure.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Can any hitting me.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we canned meet there too, so that was really fun,
- 8:53Speaker 4: but just you know, taking that fear out of it
- 8:55Speaker 4: because so many people are scared of that. So that
- 8:58Speaker 4: step of just doing doing it and following people and
- 9:02Speaker 4: even the videos that you guys shared from the speakers
- 9:04Speaker 4: that came in to teach us how to do it,
- 9:06Speaker 4: they those were incredible too. So I would just suggest
- 9:09Speaker 4: though too, for people. If you have the opportunity to
- 9:12Speaker 4: do that, do it. But if you don't, there are
- 9:15Speaker 4: so many people.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Get a mentor. Yes, yeah, so many mentors in the community.
- 9:19Speaker 3: We do a monthly Ladies' home setting camp and we
- 9:22Speaker 3: have thirty to sixty people come every single month and
- 9:25Speaker 3: we do a different topic every month, you know, so
- 9:28Speaker 3: find you know people in your community that are doing
- 9:31Speaker 3: those kinds of things. And because you know what, you
- 9:34Speaker 3: don't have to know how to do it, all right,
- 9:36Speaker 3: you know, there's other people. You could be pay one
- 9:38Speaker 3: thing and then somebody else can be doing good another thing,
- 9:40Speaker 3: and you get together and you share that because well.
- 9:44Speaker 4: And that's the bartering system too to a degree. So
- 9:47Speaker 4: I'm good at making the bread, and then you're good
- 9:49Speaker 4: at making cheese, and then we can swap the bread
- 9:51Speaker 4: and the cheese and all of that.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And that's a great thing for especially urban people as well,
- 9:56Speaker 3: you know, finding somebody that also is like mine and
- 10:00Speaker 3: you can share skills or share products things like that,
- 10:04Speaker 3: you know, and the same thing, you know, during twenty twenty,
- 10:06Speaker 3: the meat processing plants all went down because they needed
- 10:11Speaker 3: to conform. If you had lambs or cattle or pigs
- 10:17Speaker 3: you know, that you were trying to raise, you couldn't
- 10:20Speaker 3: get them processed, You couldn't take them to the thing.
- 10:23Speaker 3: So that's another thing where a lot of people set
- 10:26Speaker 3: out to learn how to.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Do that themselves.
- 10:28Speaker 3: You know, we've been doing that ourselves for years, but
- 10:31Speaker 3: you know, surprising how. And that's another thing we do
- 10:34Speaker 3: at the expo is teach people how to do that.
- 10:37Speaker 3: But it's easy and way less expensive to do it
- 10:42Speaker 3: yourself as well. And again it's not for everybody. That's
- 10:45Speaker 3: why you get community together, you know, you just need
- 10:48Speaker 3: to find your people, yeah, and get community together. Because
- 10:53Speaker 3: one person may like, you know, not mind doing this
- 10:56Speaker 3: assembly line. You know, this portion of the process. Somebody
- 11:00Speaker 3: else might you know, you know, many many hands make
- 11:04Speaker 3: light work too.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So yes, and this is not this is not a
- 11:06Speaker 1: plug for a specific you know, online social media platform.
- 11:10Speaker 1: But I will just say if I may, you know, Facebook,
- 11:14Speaker 1: This is not an endorsement of Facebook or the people
- 11:16Speaker 1: running it, but I will say that there's a lot
- 11:17Speaker 1: of community, you know, marketplaces and groups now on platforms
- 11:21Speaker 1: like that. You might be surprised regardless of where you live.
- 11:24Speaker 1: If you haven't thought of that, go in and just
- 11:27Speaker 1: type in, Hey, I'm looking for a you know, I'm
- 11:29Speaker 1: a part of a fish tank club, or I'm a
- 11:31Speaker 1: part of a whatever club. You probably see that there
- 11:33Speaker 1: are farmers' markets and people growing food and having community
- 11:37Speaker 1: events where they're teaching some of this stuff. I don't
- 11:40Speaker 1: know if there's a de facto Cheryl in your view,
- 11:42Speaker 1: a de facto starting place, like your best advice for
- 11:46Speaker 1: that guy that's on the fence who maybe feels drawn
- 11:48Speaker 1: toward it, but he's just overwhelmed. Even now during this program,
- 11:51Speaker 1: still thinking, yeah, but man, I don't have land. I
- 11:53Speaker 1: just don't know what is some really good advice that
- 11:57Speaker 1: you would give that guy.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Well, do your homework, you know there is you know,
- 12:02Speaker 3: like what I said when I started, there was a book.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I had a book, one book.
- 12:07Speaker 3: And there are so many places where you can get mentorship.
- 12:12Speaker 3: We love love to promote community and you know, find
- 12:16Speaker 3: a real life mentor face to face person that you
- 12:19Speaker 3: can do hands on things.
- 12:20Speaker 2: But but you know, aside from that, there is no.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Excuse to not be able to learn how to do
- 12:27Speaker 3: those things like making your own bread. They start with
- 12:30Speaker 3: one thing, get good at it, and then go to
- 12:32Speaker 3: the next thing. You know, that way you're not overwhelmed.
- 12:36Speaker 3: You know you can't do all the things, and nobody
- 12:38Speaker 3: can do all the things well exactly.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So you just learn how.
- 12:42Speaker 3: To do you know, one thing, and again, find your tribe.
- 12:46Speaker 3: They are everywhere. They used to not be, but they
- 12:49Speaker 3: are everywhere. Now people are everywhere, and I'm so encouraged
- 12:52Speaker 3: that there's people in every community that want to learn
- 12:56Speaker 3: how to go to the farmer's market and say, who
- 12:58Speaker 3: do I talk to that knows that does this stuff
- 13:02Speaker 3: or who's having it's about that extension to actually extension,
- 13:05Speaker 3: you know has been doing a lot of and now
- 13:09Speaker 3: that you know every like we're in Missouri, you know
- 13:12Speaker 3: a Missouri University of Missouri Extension. Every every state has
- 13:16Speaker 3: a an extension office which is part of the land
- 13:19Speaker 3: grant universities. So you can find every county has an
- 13:24Speaker 3: extension office where you can.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Get a lot of information as well.
- 13:28Speaker 3: And yeah, there's just no lack of you know, information
- 13:32Speaker 3: out there anymore. And just see what you like, and
- 13:36Speaker 3: you know, start start somewhere. Just don't get paralyzed by it.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Start somewhere. Just take the one step, make a loaf
- 13:44Speaker 3: of bread. And once you do the one thing, you
- 13:47Speaker 3: have so much confidence that you'll you'll want to.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Do more people whatever it is like, start winning, feel
- 13:56Speaker 1: like you're winning. Do a baby step, and that becomes
- 13:58Speaker 1: way more infection than guilt or the fear of something else.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And I often think that's kind of like our walk
- 14:05Speaker 1: with the Lord. Yeah, you know, if you're trying to
- 14:07Speaker 1: escape flames, if it's coming from a place of fear
- 14:11Speaker 1: of outcomes, and so, okay, I got I got to
- 14:13Speaker 1: deal with this Jesus character in order to avoid this outcome.
- 14:17Speaker 1: That sounds pretty mortifying. I always feel like that is
- 14:19Speaker 1: not a sustainable motivator, right. Diets are not sustainable for
- 14:24Speaker 1: most people long term because of the guilt of maybe
- 14:27Speaker 1: gaining weight again, Like you have to feel better about things,
- 14:31Speaker 1: you have to fall so in love with Jesus that
- 14:33Speaker 1: you don't want the world anymore. Those are when you
- 14:36Speaker 1: start feeling like you've got momentum. Does that make sense?
- 14:39Speaker 1: Other life is always going to feel good. But I
- 14:41Speaker 1: just I agree with you, take a baby step, be
- 14:44Speaker 1: proud of it. Go tell your friends I did a jarring,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I jarred a thing what I did.
- 14:51Speaker 5: But you know, yeah, I'm.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Smarter than Joe Horn and caring that thing.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Well to that too.
- 15:02Speaker 3: You know, we always talk about in our in our
- 15:04Speaker 3: in our community about how you know, we're just borrowing
- 15:08Speaker 3: all this from God.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and when you.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Borrow something from somebody, you don't give it back, you
- 15:12Speaker 3: don't ruin it and trash it and then give it
- 15:14Speaker 3: back to them.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You know, I give it back to them, you know.
- 15:18Speaker 3: At least in the shape they gave it to you,
- 15:19Speaker 3: but hopefully better shape than.
- 15:21Speaker 2: They left it to you. And that, you know, that's
- 15:22Speaker 2: the same concept.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Well, we were always taught too, that you never send
- 15:27Speaker 4: something back empty empty. You always feel it back something else. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 4: it doesn't have to be the same thing.
- 15:34Speaker 1: But I'm so proud of the ladies in our family too,
- 15:37Speaker 1: because Catherine and Kate, my daughter, they have started We
- 15:42Speaker 1: have a pantry at home. There is meat in there,
- 15:44Speaker 1: there's food in there. There's things that they have canned,
- 15:48Speaker 1: not John Jar, but of course they've allowed me to
- 15:51Speaker 1: continue saying the word jar. But anyway, well, ladies and gentlemen,
- 15:56Speaker 1: before we continue, I want to tell you about something
- 15:58Speaker 1: that I personally use and I absolutely love it, and
- 16:01Speaker 1: I think that you're going to love it too. I'm
- 16:03Speaker 1: talking about Eden's Essentials Organic Lions main Elite. It's a powerful,

- 17:08Speaker 1: Do you think that most people out there may be
- 17:11Speaker 1: watching this program or the people that you meet at
- 17:12Speaker 1: these conferences and camping events. Do you think that there
- 17:15Speaker 1: are those that kind of start off super motivated and
- 17:18Speaker 1: then they kind of start to realize this is kind
- 17:21Speaker 1: of gravitus. They start to see a picture unfolding that
- 17:25Speaker 1: the time constraints, the demand, the actual having to get
- 17:28Speaker 1: up and deal with the full picture of living off
- 17:31Speaker 1: grid and living that out as opposed to just daydreaming it.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's a real commitment. What would you say to that person?
- 17:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and kind of like we talked before about starting
- 17:43Speaker 3: and getting mastering one thing at a time and not
- 17:46Speaker 3: trying to do all the things. You know, I'm on
- 17:48Speaker 3: a lot of groups and things. We talked about community groups,
- 17:53Speaker 3: and you see all these things like oh my goodness,
- 17:56Speaker 3: this died and that died, and the garden died because
- 18:00Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm pretty much because I don't
- 18:02Speaker 3: know what I'm doing, you know, And they go there
- 18:03Speaker 3: for support and that's great, but you know, that's part
- 18:07Speaker 3: of the problem, trying to do a thing that there's
- 18:08Speaker 3: a lot of work for no results. So people people
- 18:13Speaker 3: get overwhelmed by not doing their homework, just like anything
- 18:17Speaker 3: they get, you know, with garden, that's one thing. But
- 18:21Speaker 3: then you've done all that work and you don't have
- 18:23Speaker 3: the food, and you don't have the you know, the
- 18:26Speaker 3: bounty tole and or pests, you know, and things like that.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So again, doing.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Your homework with that making your Preparing your soil is
- 18:37Speaker 3: the very first thing, you know.
- 18:39Speaker 2: And we're in the ozars here, so.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Everybody has their has their challenges wherever they're at, but
- 18:46Speaker 3: here it's rocks and play soils and things like that.
- 18:50Speaker 3: So you know, preparing your soil right and learning that
- 18:53Speaker 3: and you know, we could do a whole program on soil,
- 18:56Speaker 3: or ten programs on soil.
- 18:57Speaker 2: But the animals is what, you know. I hate to
- 18:59Speaker 2: see when people just.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So, I'm gonna get a goats, so I'm gonna get goats,
- 19:02Speaker 3: and I'm gonna get cattle, and I'm gonna get a dairy cow,
- 19:05Speaker 3: and you know we have to which you have to
- 19:08Speaker 3: milk twice a day, and there are a lot of
- 19:11Speaker 3: factors and that you know, the animals suffer if you
- 19:14Speaker 3: don't know what you're darting, you know, especially dairy animals.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I think, yes, if people don't know what they're.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Doing, and then you and then they say, oh my goodness,
- 19:23Speaker 3: we can't go on vacation because we have to milk
- 19:26Speaker 3: our cow twice a day and you can't always know
- 19:28Speaker 3: somebody who knows how to make you know, we had
- 19:30Speaker 3: dairy goats for forty years and you know we don't
- 19:33Speaker 3: trust people too. My husband and I didn't go on
- 19:35Speaker 3: vacation together for ever because one of us had to
- 19:39Speaker 3: be there because we don't trust people. We did bring
- 19:41Speaker 3: people into help sometimes and it wasn't always good. So
- 19:45Speaker 3: starting small and especially with the animals, knowing what they're doing.
- 19:50Speaker 2: A lot of.
- 19:50Speaker 3: People have moved to our area in the in since
- 19:53Speaker 3: twenty twenty, especially or to rule areas. More people have
- 19:56Speaker 3: moved to rural areas. I mean that's huge, not just
- 20:00Speaker 3: here but all over the country. And knowing how to
- 20:05Speaker 3: maintain property or what they're getting into, you know, property,
- 20:09Speaker 3: there's challenges and you know with with wildlife, and there's
- 20:15Speaker 3: challenges with or some people come in and chop down
- 20:19Speaker 3: all the trees, cut down all the trees and I
- 20:21Speaker 3: go like, don't do that, and you know, and clear
- 20:26Speaker 3: cut things, and.
- 20:27Speaker 2: There's just you know, just do it.
- 20:29Speaker 3: People need to do their homework, is what, and not
- 20:32Speaker 3: get impulsive about things, you know. I mean, it's easy
- 20:36Speaker 3: to go into the bead store and hear the little
- 20:39Speaker 3: chicks peep in and go.
- 20:40Speaker 2: I had no.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Idea when I came to the store that I was
- 20:45Speaker 3: going to go home with twenty seven baby chicks. But
- 20:47Speaker 3: now I do, and I don't have anywhere to put
- 20:49Speaker 3: them right, you know, and you know the kids are
- 20:53Speaker 3: malling them or whatever, you know, but mostly do your homework,
- 20:56Speaker 3: and you know because and I applaud people who just
- 21:00Speaker 3: get excited about it, and I want people to get
- 21:02Speaker 3: excited about it, but I also want people to be
- 21:05Speaker 3: success smart.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, set them I'm setting them up for disaster. Well,
- 21:10Speaker 1: there's two things I want to ask at the same time.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Not everybody watching this program. We've talked a lot about,
- 21:15Speaker 1: you know, if you're out there and you live in
- 21:16Speaker 1: an apartment and you've never done anything with this, or
- 21:18Speaker 1: you have no resources, no land. We've tried to, you know,
- 21:21Speaker 1: keep that point of entry very low, do your research,
- 21:23Speaker 1: maybe buy some foods, learn to cane. I learned a word.
- 21:30Speaker 1: But we do have followers and viewers that have money.
- 21:33Speaker 1: They absolutely could buy land. And by the way, over
- 21:36Speaker 1: the last decade, I've seen at least six of now
- 21:38Speaker 1: my very good friends move specifically to the Ozarks, very
- 21:43Speaker 1: near to where I live. And they came with no
- 21:45Speaker 1: expectations of even meeting me, but they said, God just
- 21:48Speaker 1: put us in the Midwest. Have you heard this? Oh yeah,
- 21:52Speaker 1: it's like over and over again. Our good friends, the Umbriacos, like,
- 21:55Speaker 1: we've heard this over and over again. We were living
- 21:57Speaker 1: in the city. We're doing fine, there's no and whatsoever
- 22:00Speaker 1: to move to humid, tick infested Missouri, but we felt
- 22:04Speaker 1: like God want us to move there. So, if you're
- 22:06Speaker 1: watching this program, and it doesn't have to be Missouri
- 22:08Speaker 1: or the Midwest, do you have a recommendation or a
- 22:11Speaker 1: caution about the kinds of land that somebody might be
- 22:14Speaker 1: considering if they're out there right now, praying through maybe
- 22:17Speaker 1: moving states or well.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Fight I find that they want to live out buy
- 22:23Speaker 3: some property that they haven't done the research on the area,
- 22:26Speaker 3: and they don't realize it's twenty seven miles to the
- 22:30Speaker 3: store to get whatever for whatever, or every time you
- 22:35Speaker 3: need something. And for some people that's just I mean,
- 22:39Speaker 3: or thirty or fifty miles or whatever, you know. And
- 22:41Speaker 3: so some people that's just too much, you know, they're
- 22:45Speaker 3: just like or that they need to make a living
- 22:48Speaker 3: and now they have to drive an hour and a
- 22:49Speaker 3: half to get to work in the hills in the winter,
- 22:53Speaker 3: in the ice, you know, or in the area that floods.
- 22:57Speaker 3: We have three ways out of our property, and we
- 22:59Speaker 3: can't get out of if it floods. So you know,
- 23:01Speaker 3: you have to decide you're going to stay out are
- 23:03Speaker 3: you going to get stuck in? So you know, just
- 23:06Speaker 3: all there's a lot of factors to take into consideration
- 23:09Speaker 3: if you're going to move there. And some people and
- 23:12Speaker 3: I've seen a lot of people try it for a
- 23:15Speaker 3: little bit since just since twenty twenty and said this
- 23:18Speaker 3: isn't for me.
- 23:18Speaker 2: It's just too far from town. I can't do it.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Are there things you know, like you said, you know
- 23:24Speaker 1: people chopping the trees down? Are there things agriculturally you
- 23:27Speaker 1: know where the water tables.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Flooding and just yeah, areas.
- 23:31Speaker 3: It's Ozark's with plural Ozark's Homesteading dot Com. There you
- 23:35Speaker 3: can learn about the ozarks Homesteading Expo that's coming up
- 23:38Speaker 3: Labor Day weekend in Marshfield, Missouri, where we'll have thousands
- 23:42Speaker 3: of people just like you, all your thousands of your
- 23:44Speaker 3: best friends, well my best friends will be there and
- 23:48Speaker 3: wonderful speakers. There's forty different sessions, everything from you know,
- 23:52Speaker 3: bread and solar and salado and off grid and cheesemaking
- 23:55Speaker 3: and livestock and everything you probably ever need to know
- 24:00Speaker 3: that you need to connect with not that you're going
- 24:02Speaker 3: to be an expert, but you're gonna get.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Starting point learning.
- 24:07Speaker 2: And you're going to get so inspired and motivated after
- 24:10Speaker 2: going to that.
- 24:11Speaker 1: My oldest daughter, you know, she worked very hard a
- 24:14Speaker 1: couple of years ago on her very first garden, and
- 24:17Speaker 1: it looked robust, it was going to be beautiful, and
- 24:19Speaker 1: then a bunch of it. Now you can correct me
- 24:21Speaker 1: if I'm wrong. She's live here. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 24:23Speaker 1: feel her eyes if I get not. Really, she's the
- 24:26Speaker 1: sweetest person ever. But a bunch of it died or
- 24:29Speaker 1: it came in really small, and it was just kind
- 24:31Speaker 1: of weird. And she had some decent tomatoes, but then
- 24:34Speaker 1: the corn had issues and there was some kind of
- 24:36Speaker 1: a beetle that was eating things. And they're not using
- 24:39Speaker 1: pesticides in chemistry. They're just they're using dietamatous earth and
- 24:43Speaker 1: trying to do this naturally and anyway.
- 24:45Speaker 5: But the point is I felt bad for her. I said,
- 24:48Speaker 5: maybe you worked so hard. You worked so hard, and
- 24:51Speaker 5: I was hoping there'd be this big giant spread at
- 24:53Speaker 5: the end, and there was like a little au three.
- 24:56Speaker 5: It was a little tithing and she wasn't crushed about
- 24:59Speaker 5: this at all. She said, No, I figured I might
- 25:00Speaker 5: blow some things this year. But last year, after a year,
- 25:05Speaker 5: just one season of learning what didn't work last year,
- 25:09Speaker 5: it was like a veteran gardener just in one year. Again,
- 25:13Speaker 5: some of this food still exists in our cans.
- 25:16Speaker 2: No, in our jars.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Oh oh, now I can say.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Now, I can say.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Jars in a jar. I concede, and God gave men
- 25:34Speaker 1: women because they're smarter than we are. Live tv Now

- 26:52Speaker 3: So if you do buy your property right now, plan
- 26:55Speaker 3: a tree, plant your fruit trees, Okay, because the best
