- 0:00Speaker 1: So today, the White House press pool is back up
- 0:02Speaker 1: and running, but big questions remain about CNN's place after
- 0:06Speaker 1: the White House blocked the network from fulfilling its duties
- 0:09Speaker 1: to cover the trip to a college football game on Saturday. Meanwhile,
- 0:12Speaker 1: the administration is out, I mentioned it before, with a
- 0:15Speaker 1: new ad, and.
- 0:16Speaker 2: It is just about identical to.
- 0:19Speaker 1: One that was put out by Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The difference is, it's paid for by.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You and me.
- 0:28Speaker 3: This is the final battle... With you at my side,
- 0:31Speaker 3: we will demolish the deep state. We will expel the
- 0:34Speaker 3: warmongers from our government. We will drive out the globalists.
- 0:38Speaker 3: We will cast out the communists, Marxists and fascists. We
- 0:41Speaker 3: will throw off the sick political class that hates our country.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We will rout the fake news media and we will
- 0:49Speaker 3: liberate America from these villains once and for all.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You like that?
- 0:56Speaker 4: You paid for it, Jim.
- 0:58Speaker 5: I mean, it's kind of an amazing ad for the
- 1:00Speaker 5: Democrats when you think about it. He says he's going
- 1:02Speaker 5: to root out the warmongers and the globalists. He's the
- 1:05Speaker 5: globalist in chief right now. He's the warmonger in chief
- 1:08Speaker 5: right now. He pumps out more fake news than anybody
- 1:11Speaker 5: right now. He started his own Trump TV, which is
- 1:14Speaker 5: fake news.
- 1:14Speaker 1: But it's not a great ad for the Democrats.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's a bad ad for America.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Oh, it certainly is. I mean, there's no question about it.
- 1:20Speaker 5: But I mean, this is like, you know, like a
- 1:22Speaker 5: traffic ticket for Donald Trump these days in terms of
- 1:25Speaker 5: laws broken. I mean, you know, this is I don't
- 1:28Speaker 5: I don't know if this gets back to the earlier
- 1:30Speaker 5: conversation about putting food on the table and gas in
- 1:32Speaker 5: the truck. I don't know if this resonates as well.
- 1:35Speaker 5: It's paid for by U.S.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Taxpayers.
- 1:36Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 1:37Speaker 5: It's an outrage. No question about it. But is it
- 1:40Speaker 5: is it something that ranks really high and all of
- 1:42Speaker 5: the things that.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Well, the White House says this is a public service announcement.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And I hear your point that maybe this doesn't matter.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But even Republican Senator John Kennedy, who at times speaks out,
- 1:52Speaker 1: he said this is no bueno. Watch.
- 1:56Speaker 7: Now, the White House sees it differently, but I think
- 2:01Speaker 7: there ought to be a rule that you can't. Well,
- 2:03Speaker 7: it probably is a rule. You can't spend public money.
- 2:07Speaker 7: to promote yourself. I may end up with a sombrero
- 2:11Speaker 7: on my head, but I also think that we ought
- 2:15Speaker 7: to have a rule that no politician can have a
- 2:21Speaker 7: building named after him while he's alive. I think that
- 2:25Speaker 7: would settle a lot of this controversy.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I mean, he is really funny, but is there any
- 2:31Speaker 1: teeth to that? Because while he says that, look around Washington.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I've been here for the last 24 hours and his
- 2:36Speaker 1: name is absolutely everywhere.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Yeah, look, what the president's doing with these ads on
- 2:41Speaker 4: TV is nothing short of pitiful. I mean, it's ridiculous
- 2:45Speaker 4: and it's pitiful. Senator Kennedy is right. There is a
- 2:49Speaker 4: law that this can't be happening. Talk is cheap. Senator
- 2:54Speaker 4: Kennedy and the Republicans and the Democrats need to get
- 2:57Speaker 4: together right now. They're in Congress right now. They're in session.
- 3:01Speaker 4: And stop it. Stop it. Trim the president back. Use
- 3:06Speaker 4: the Article I powers that they have and take them
- 3:10Speaker 4: back and start being Congress again instead of being a
- 3:13Speaker 4: rubber stamp for the president of the United States, for
- 3:16Speaker 4: the executive branch. That's what the Constitution says. That's what
- 3:19Speaker 4: they need to do. It's more than just saying, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 4: this should be illegal and it probably is illegal, but
- 3:25Speaker 4: he's doing it. Step up the plate and hit the
- 3:28Speaker 4: damn ball and stop it.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Let's talk about the White House banning portions of the
- 3:32Speaker 1: press pool. I just want to share Todd Blanch did
- 3:34Speaker 1: an interview with ABC yesterday sort of defending why the
- 3:38Speaker 1: White House was doing this and citing national security. And
- 3:41Speaker 1: I think it's worth sharing just a bit of it.
- 3:44Speaker 6: The president has every right to decide who gets to
- 3:47Speaker 6: fly on his plane. And it is national security, especially
- 3:50Speaker 6: on Air Force One and especially at the White House.
- 3:52Speaker 6: And so it's not just the fact that they refuse
- 3:55Speaker 6: to report anything accurately. By the way, that is what
- 3:58Speaker 6: is a national security problem. When you have completely misinformation,
- 4:02Speaker 6: complete misinformation coming out of the White House, that affects
- 4:06Speaker 6: our relationship with our foreign partners. That affects our relationship
- 4:09Speaker 6: with our foreign enemies.
- 4:11Speaker 1: To be clear, it is not the president's plane. Jim,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you're the OG of getting your press pass revoked.
- 4:20Speaker 5: I'm the crash test dummy.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yes, back in 2018. What's your take on this? I mean,
- 4:23Speaker 1: national security, come on now.
- 4:25Speaker 5: I mean, it's sad that the attorney general is that
- 4:29Speaker 5: full of crap. I mean, that is a sad state
- 4:31Speaker 5: of affairs. This is not about national security. This is
- 4:34Speaker 5: about Trump and Trump insecurities.
- 4:37Speaker 1: You know, it's far more dangerous than just Trump.
- 4:39Speaker 5: And I will say, you know, I've been saying this
- 4:41Speaker 5: for days. It's two things can be true at the
- 4:42Speaker 5: same time. This is obviously a distraction. He wants us
- 4:45Speaker 5: to spend hours and hours talking about the press ban.
- 4:48Speaker 5: No question about it. But it is dangerous for our
- 4:50Speaker 5: democracy when the president of the United States can willy
- 4:53Speaker 5: nilly go after members of the press and whole news
- 4:56Speaker 5: organizations in this fashion. And I really wish that the
- 5:00Speaker 5: rest of the networks who are part of this pool.
- 5:02Speaker 5: would say, if you're still screwing with CNN, screw you.
- 5:05Speaker 5: You're not getting your picture and your audio. The other
- 5:07Speaker 5: day when he was running his mouth talking about his
- 5:10Speaker 5: helipad and there was no audio coming out, I thought,
- 5:12Speaker 5: my God, finally a mute button on this guy. You know,
- 5:15Speaker 5: thank goodness.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Thank heavens.
- 5:17Speaker 5: But the problem is, is that he knows how to
- 5:20Speaker 5: exploit and play divide and conquer with the press. It
- 5:22Speaker 5: goes all the way back to the Associated Press when
- 5:24Speaker 5: they got booted off of Air Force One. and out
- 5:26Speaker 5: of the White House. At that point, the news organizations
- 5:29Speaker 5: in this town should have banded together.
- 5:31Speaker 3: They did not.
- 5:31Speaker 5: And they taught him the lesson that he can continue
- 5:33Speaker 5: to play divide and conquer.
