- 0:00Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 0:15Speaker 2: This is Bolivar's Sinatra Showcase.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I have discovered a young man whom I think is
- 0:20Speaker 3: going to be a superstar. He's got good stage presence,
- 0:24Speaker 3: great set of pipes.
- 0:25Speaker 4: He's Italian.
- 0:27Speaker 3: And he has a unique way with a phrase. But
- 0:29Speaker 3: more than that, there's just something I like about the guy.
- 0:32Speaker 3: You see what I think. You'll know what I think.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Here's my new discovery, Joe Piscopo.
- 0:43Speaker 5: All right, all right, all right, Joe Piscopo on the radio.
- 0:46Speaker 5: It's full of a Sinatra showcase. What a week, mama mia.
- 0:50Speaker 5: Everything's going at warp speed. We're having a great time,
- 0:53Speaker 5: and I wanted to be with you live, and I'm
- 0:55Speaker 5: live as live can be, all right? And even if
- 0:56Speaker 5: you're listening on a Sunday morning as we play back
- 0:59Speaker 5: the Sunday show, we love you for listening as well.
- 1:02Speaker 5: But right now, it's Saturday Night Live with Piscopo. Hey,
- 1:06Speaker 5: I really went into the archives today. And we played
- 1:09Speaker 5: bits and pieces of some of this that I'm going
- 1:12Speaker 5: to play for you tonight. But we have some things
- 1:15Speaker 5: I haven't heard anywhere. The original Frank Sinatra in such
- 1:20Speaker 5: a great, fun way. mood I mean it from Vegas
- 1:25Speaker 5: this is 1978 don't forget Mr. S retires about 71
- 1:29Speaker 5: comes back you know he does a couple albums this
- 1:32Speaker 5: was before New York New York this was before uh
- 1:36Speaker 5: this first hour this was before uh a trilogy actually
- 1:39Speaker 5: before trilogy and he is just having a great time
- 1:43Speaker 5: on stage so it's gonna get silly so we're gonna
- 1:46Speaker 5: start it with this and I had such a great
- 1:49Speaker 5: time with it And then Elias and I just got
- 1:51Speaker 5: into it. Elias Raff running the show today. If you
- 1:53Speaker 5: want to give us a call, 800-848-9222, 800-848-9222. And to
- 1:59Speaker 5: give us a call, let us know what you're doing.
- 2:01Speaker 5: But this is from Caesars. This is from Caesars Palace
- 2:04Speaker 5: in 1978 when Vegas was Vegas. And they brought in
- 2:07Speaker 5: all the big stars. And Frank Sinatra was such a
- 2:11Speaker 5: big star outside the billboard. of Caesars on the strip,
- 2:15Speaker 5: he's back. And you just knew it was Mr. Sinatra.
- 2:18Speaker 5: So Jackie Gale, the comedian Jackie Gale opens for Frank.
- 2:22Speaker 5: I'm going into the weeds tonight. I hope you don't mind.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Full of a Sinatra showcase with Piscopo.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Here we go. And Jackie Gale, he starts, he does
- 2:30Speaker 5: his standup. Then Mr. S comes out and he's supposed
- 2:32Speaker 5: to go right into all of me, Mr. Sinatra. Well,
- 2:35Speaker 5: he stops and he explains that they're videoing this for
- 2:39Speaker 5: a television special and And he is in a mood
- 2:43Speaker 5: that is just spectacular. This will be in the first hour.
- 2:45Speaker 5: I have a feeling it's going to leak into the
- 2:47Speaker 5: second hour because we were listening before we came on
- 2:49Speaker 5: the air.
- 2:50Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Frank's celebrating the greatness of Francis Albert Sinatra in his
- 2:55Speaker 5: Vegas years, not the Basie years. This is 1978. And
- 3:00Speaker 5: let's go to Caesar's Palace.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. And welcome to Caesar's Palace.
- 3:36Speaker 3: We stopped for a moment to tell you that if
- 3:38Speaker 3: you haven't been told, we are televising the show tonight
- 3:43Speaker 3: because it's all part of a large format.
- 3:47Speaker 4: This will be shown in 1982. After the joint is bankrupt,
- 3:53Speaker 4: they're going to pick up a little money then.
- 3:56Speaker 3: No, seriously, this show consists of all of the people
- 4:00Speaker 3: who work here at Caesars Palace, such as myself and Sammy,
- 4:06Speaker 3: old brown eye. And Tom Jones, Ann-Margaret, Paul Anka, Andy Williams,
- 4:20Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And each time somebody
- 4:23Speaker 3: plays here, they're going to photograph it. Dwight Hemmion and
- 4:28Speaker 3: some guy named Smith, who's his partner, John Alfred E.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Smith. You're a thrilling audience. You're still the Lickin' Guys,
- 4:44Speaker 4: laugh it up.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Anyway, they're taking a piece of each of us as
- 4:52Speaker 3: we work here. and I got enough pieces left to
- 4:56Speaker 3: give away in case anybody's interested at all. And so
- 5:05Speaker 3: we will begin our part of the show, and here
- 5:08Speaker 3: you go.
- 5:19Speaker 4: All of me.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Why not take all of me Can't you see I'm
- 5:28Speaker 3: no good without you Get my lips I wanna lose
- 5:36Speaker 3: them Take these arms I'll never use them Your goodbye
- 5:47Speaker 3: left me with eyes.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That cry.
- 5:51Speaker 4: How can I get.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Along without you? You got the part Once was my
- 6:01Speaker 3: heart So why not, why not take all of me?
- 6:07Speaker 7: All of me Step up and grab all of me.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Can't you see i'm just a mess without you get
- 6:22Speaker 3: these lips.
- 6:25Speaker 7: I wanna lose them get a piece of these arms
- 6:30Speaker 7: i'll never use them.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Goodbye left me.
- 6:37Speaker 3: With eyes that cry how can i ever make it
- 6:44Speaker 3: Without you.
- 6:47Speaker 7: You got the part What used to be my heart
- 6:53Speaker 7: Why not Why not take all.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Of me.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Maybe this time I'll be lucky Maybe this.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Time she'll stay.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Maybe this time for the first time Love won't wander away.
- 7:41Speaker 4: She's gonna hold me fast.
- 7:47Speaker 9: I'll be home at.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Last Not a loser anymore Like the first time and
- 7:59Speaker 3: that time before Everybody loves a winner.
- 8:08Speaker 4: But nobody loves me Mr. Peaceful Mr. Happy, that's what
- 8:20Speaker 4: I want to be.
- 8:25Speaker 7: All the odds are in my favor.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Something's bound to.
- 8:33Speaker 10: Begin It's got to happen, happen sometime Maybe this time
- 8:42Speaker 10: I'm gonna win.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Everybody loves a winner But nobody loves me.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Mr.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Peaceful, Mr. Happy That's all that I long to be.
- 9:16Speaker 7: Now all the odds are in my favor Something's bound
- 9:24Speaker 7: to begin.
- 9:28Speaker 11: It's got to happen.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Happen sometime.
- 9:33Speaker 7: Maybe this time, maybe this time, I'm going to win.
- 9:49Speaker 5: That's Frank Sinatra, Caesar's Palace, 1978. You've got to love that.
- 9:54Speaker 5: He's just having a ball, talking to the crowd. And
- 9:57Speaker 5: we're going to get into more of it. uh but
- 9:59Speaker 5: i gotta tell you right now i just want to
- 10:00Speaker 5: tell you where we are it's the caesar's palace and
- 10:02Speaker 5: we're going to play a lot of the things you've
- 10:04Speaker 5: never heard before and uh i just found these of
- 10:07Speaker 5: mr sinatra talking uh and doing stand-up but stand-up i'll
- 10:11Speaker 5: stand up for mr sinatra you know it's just kind
- 10:13Speaker 5: of like uh entertaining the crowd, a la 1978, with
- 10:18Speaker 5: 1978 references, which I think you'll dig, especially if you're
- 10:22Speaker 5: a baby boomer, you know. Hey, let's continue with the concert. Hey,
- 10:25Speaker 5: shout out to my cousin Paulie, just got back from Europe. Paulie,

- 10:35Speaker 5: as live could be. And let me just continue the
- 10:37Speaker 5: music going. This is, again, Caesar's 1978 great band. Bill
- 10:42Speaker 5: Miller conducting the band, by the way. Vincent Falcone was
- 10:45Speaker 5: the pianist and the music kind of conductor for Caesar's Palace. Mr.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Sinatra ended up using Vinnie years after that as his
- 10:56Speaker 5: very own conductor, Vincent Falcone at the piano, but Bill
- 11:00Speaker 5: Miller conducting the orchestra at this point in 1978. Here's

- 14:37Speaker 14: poor butterfly.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Yeah, poor butterfly. Boy, you are good. That is such...
- 14:41Speaker 5: an esoteric hit Frank Sinatra song. I mean, thank you
- 14:45Speaker 5: for that. Poor butterfly. If we can get that, I'd
- 14:46Speaker 5: love that. I absolutely love that. Janet, thank you so much. Yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 5: we went to Italy, went to Italy, went to Lake Cuomo.
- 14:53Speaker 5: I visited all the churches, you know, and it was fabulous.

- 16:01Speaker 13: A couple years back, I'm listening to you in the morning,
- 16:03Speaker 13: and Sinatra, I don't know how much I loved him.
- 16:06Speaker 13: There's a print shop next to my doctor. I walk
- 16:09Speaker 13: in at a print shop, and I say, hey, do

- 16:28Speaker 5: I know you sent me the 343 in the name
- 16:30Speaker 5: of the 343 firefighters who died in 9-11. And I
- 16:33Speaker 5: wore that proudly as I was master of ceremonies. And

- 20:13Speaker 5: Caesar's Palace, man. That's when Vegas was Vegas, baby. This
- 20:18Speaker 5: is this time.

- 20:28Speaker 16: Here's some love songs played beautifully by our string section.
- 20:32Speaker 4: This is Jimmy Webb. This time we almost made those

- 21:08Speaker 4: Hand Then I touched it.

- 21:32Speaker 1: Didn't we.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Go?
- 21:36Speaker 16: This time we nearly made it up to the moon

- 22:57Speaker 4: I'm so sorry.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Rock, what a history, man. We've known each other so long.
- 23:01Speaker 5: I love you. You're the guy that put me on
- 23:02Speaker 5: the radio downtown at Salem now on WABC and now
- 23:07Speaker 5: all around the country. And I wanted to just say
- 23:10Speaker 5: thank you for that, Rocky. You know, we got so
- 23:12Speaker 5: many beautiful listeners and it's a beautiful thing. And you're
- 23:15Speaker 5: the guy that started it, boss. So thank you, my friend.
- 23:18Speaker 15: Joe, let's face it, you've done a wonderful job keeping Mrs.
- 23:21Speaker 15: Sinatra's voice and legacy alive. And that says so much. And,
- 23:25Speaker 15: of course, I love your new spot on Saturday night.
- 23:28Speaker 15: I mean, I think Mrs. Sinatra would have approved as well.
- 23:30Speaker 20: I know.
- 23:31Speaker 5: It's like after dark, right? And we go to the clubs.
- 23:34Speaker 5: I would love to get Dr. Rock Positano down to
- 23:37Speaker 5: some of the jazz clubs to sit in at the
- 23:39Speaker 5: piano because I know how good you are, man. I'm
- 23:42Speaker 5: telling you something. Can you get out on a late
- 23:44Speaker 5: Saturday night rock one of these days, huh?
- 23:47Speaker 15: Joe, listen, as long as I don't have to work
- 23:49Speaker 15: the next day, that's fine. I would love to come
- 23:52Speaker 15: down and jazz it up with you. We could maybe
- 23:54Speaker 15: do a little witchcraft or something like that.
- 23:57Speaker 5: It is great. And I know you were riding by
- 23:59Speaker 5: where you saw Trilogy recorded, the album. You were in
- 24:02Speaker 5: the studio with Frank Sinatra. You were in the studio
- 24:05Speaker 5: with Vincent Falcone. We're highlighting the Caesars Palace. And that's
- 24:09Speaker 5: where Vinny was the music. You know, he was like
- 24:11Speaker 5: in charge of all the music for Caesars. And Mr.
- 24:14Speaker 5: S picked him up. And years later, there you were
- 24:16Speaker 5: in the studio watching Frank Sinatra record New York, New York,
- 24:20Speaker 5: of all things, Rock Basitano.
- 24:22Speaker 15: And Joe in the most fantastic recording studio ever that
- 24:26Speaker 15: unfortunately is now replaced by a high rise, you know.
- 24:30Speaker 15: The acoustics, Joe, in that recording studio were amazing. It
- 24:33Speaker 15: was an old church. And they had the absolute best
- 24:37Speaker 15: acoustics in the world. And they had this reverb echo
- 24:40Speaker 15: chamber down in the basement that was the size of
- 24:42Speaker 15: like a kitchen. That's how big it was.
- 24:45Speaker 19: Wow.
- 24:45Speaker 15: I'll never forget how great Mr. Sinatra was to all
- 24:48Speaker 15: the musicians.
- 24:49Speaker 17: Mr.
- 24:50Speaker 15: Cal Cohen, of course, Vincent, we love, was an amazing
- 24:53Speaker 15: musical director. It was just amazing being part of that
- 24:56Speaker 15: historic trilogy, so to speak.
- 24:58Speaker 19: Yes.
- 24:59Speaker 15: Of course, you know, I had to hide behind the curtains,
- 25:01Speaker 15: but it was okay.
- 25:03Speaker 5: Rock, you got to come back. You got to come
- 25:06Speaker 5: back when we highlight Trilogy. We'll do that next couple
- 25:08Speaker 5: of weeks. Can we do that, Dr.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Rock?
- 25:11Speaker 15: Absolutely, Joe. And listen, you're doing a great job, and
- 25:13Speaker 15: we love you. And also, you did a fabulous job
- 25:15Speaker 15: with the Columbus Citizens Day Foundation.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Thank you, sir.
- 25:18Speaker 5: I love you, Rocky. God bless you. Rock Positano, live
- 25:21Speaker 5: with Piscopo. And we're coming right back at you.
- 25:35Speaker 2: This is both of us. Sinatra showcase on music radio.
- 25:54Speaker 2: The chairman of the board, all blue eyes, the Sultan
- 25:58Speaker 2: of swoon.
- 25:59Speaker 11: Ladies and gentlemen, Frank Sinatra!
- 26:02Speaker 2: This is Bolivar's Sinatra Showcase with your host, Joe Piscopo,
- 26:08Speaker 2: on Music Radio.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Thank you very much.
- 26:22Speaker 4: We turn now from the strings... First of all, I
- 26:25Speaker 4: think we should have to take a bow. Strings get up.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Beautifully played.
- 26:30Speaker 12: Glorious.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Here's a little jazz treat for the something you know.
- 26:39Speaker 3: We feature our quartet. Bobbles, bangles, hear how they ring, ring-a-ling-a.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Bobbles, bangles, and beads.
- 26:56Speaker 21: Sparkles, bangles, hear how they jing, jing-a-ling-a.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Wearing bobbles and beads. Your glitter and gleam so bright.
- 27:15Speaker 4: You're gonna make.
- 27:16Speaker 22: Somebody dream So that someday he may Get you a ring, ring-a-ling-a.
- 27:27Speaker 4: And you know where that's gonna lead.
- 27:32Speaker 3: When you're wearing baubles, bangles and beads Yabba-da-ba-da-ba-da-ba-ba-ba-da-da-da-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Gene Kelly.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Al Viola, one of the best in the world, from
- 28:05Speaker 3: Los Angeles, playing guitar solo. That was another Goomba over
- 28:17Speaker 3: here from Las Vegas, Vinnie Falcone over here.
- 28:27Speaker 4: And the pickpocket playing the bass. Here's another gumbada. Gene
- 28:32Speaker 4: Chirico from Los Angeles.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Bobbles, bangles, hear how they ring-a-ling-a.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Bobbles, bangles, and beads.
- 28:45Speaker 21: Spangles, sparkles, hear how they jing-jing-a-ling-a.
- 28:52Speaker 4: When you're wearing all those beads. You'll glitter and glean.
- 29:01Speaker 16: So you're gonna make some poor soul dream.
- 29:08Speaker 7: So that someday he may.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Snatch you ring-a-ling-a And you know where all of this
- 29:18Speaker 3: stuff's gonna lead When you're wearing.
- 29:21Speaker 18: Marbles, bangles, and beads I mean all those marbles, bangles
- 29:31Speaker 18: And those cuckoo beads.
- 29:33Speaker 4: Al Dio, let me stop going I'll.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Tell you what you hear three kumbadas out of four
- 29:55Speaker 3: oh he's half Italian he's married to a Sicilian chick
- 29:59Speaker 3: Rosie You know, every time the three or four of
- 30:03Speaker 3: us get on a corner, we have a discussion, we
- 30:05Speaker 3: get a subpoena. You get more than three Italians, you
- 30:09Speaker 3: get a piece of paper. But what are you guys
- 30:12Speaker 3: talking about? That's all they want to know, what are
- 30:14Speaker 3: you talking about? I'll tell you what we're talking about,
- 30:16Speaker 3: but it's got a mixed audience here.
- 30:20Speaker 5: You know what we got to do? We got, we're
- 30:21Speaker 5: going to go back. Let me go to the phone calls.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I'm going to go back. I'm going to do the
- 30:23Speaker 4: monologue at last.
- 30:24Speaker 5: Okay. Cause he is in a rare mood at this concert, man.
- 30:29Speaker 5: And he's, he starts, uh, for the Jack Daniels. Oh, hold,
- 30:32Speaker 5: let me go. Let me go to a John in
- 30:33Speaker 5: New York, if I may.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Elias.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Thank you, John. Hi, John. How are you tonight? Nice
- 30:38Speaker 5: of you to call.
- 30:39Speaker 23: Joe baby.
- 30:41Speaker 5: How are you, my friend?
- 30:42Speaker 23: Excellent. Uh, today, aside from my, uh, twice in my
- 30:47Speaker 23: life with Frank Sinatra. Here's a Van Morrison tale for you,
- 30:51Speaker 23: if you would.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Yeah, okay. A Van Morrison story?
- 30:58Speaker 23: Yeah. I'm in Athens at my uncle's apartment, and I'm
- 31:04Speaker 23: looking at a magazine called Enna, which means one. And
- 31:08Speaker 23: I opened it up. Inside page, what do I see?
- 31:12Speaker 23: Van Morrison in Athens. I said, I haven't seen this
- 31:15Speaker 23: guy yet.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:17Speaker 23: In America, and he's here in Greece, my uncle says, listen.
- 31:21Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:23Speaker 23: You got to go pick up your rent from the airport.
- 31:27Speaker 23: So I go pick up my rent.
- 31:29Speaker 5: So you saw Van Morrison in Greece. You saw him
- 31:32Speaker 5: in Greece, right?
- 31:33Speaker 23: I worked. Let me continue. So I'm in the convertible,
- 31:38Speaker 23: and my aunt says, she says, listen, you're not going
- 31:40Speaker 23: anywhere tonight. I said, what's the story? She said, Some
- 31:43Speaker 23: boys helped me with my luggage and they invited them
- 31:46Speaker 23: over for dinner.
- 31:48Speaker 15: All right.
- 31:48Speaker 13: Who's that?
- 31:49Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. John, you know what? I want to get
- 31:53Speaker 5: to the Frank Sinatra music. Also, you know, Frank Sinatra
- 31:56Speaker 5: played in Greece. I thought maybe that's where you were going.
- 31:59Speaker 5: And John Katzmatidis, owner of WABC New York, actually flew
- 32:04Speaker 5: Frank Sinatra over to Greece, which is a story unto itself.
- 32:07Speaker 5: But I want to just, we got so many calls
- 32:09Speaker 5: and forgive me, John. But it's about it's called a
- 32:12Speaker 5: full of us Sinatra showcase. And, you know, when we
- 32:16Speaker 5: do the Van Barsen stuff, he's brilliant. But we'll stay
- 32:18Speaker 5: with the Frank Sinatra. Ina, is that Ina on the
- 32:20Speaker 5: West Side? How are you tonight?
- 32:23Speaker 23: I'm good.
- 32:24Speaker 15: How are you?
- 32:25Speaker 5: Thank you for calling in. Great to hear your voice.
- 32:27Speaker 5: How are you doing, my dear?
- 32:29Speaker 13: I'm good.
- 32:30Speaker 17: How was your vacation?
- 32:31Speaker 15: Good?
- 32:32Speaker 5: Yes, it was great.
- 32:33Speaker 1: You know what?
- 32:33Speaker 5: It was great. The Italians are great. I like to
- 32:37Speaker 5: go to all the churches. Yeah, we went all around
- 32:39Speaker 5: and it was really, really nice. But it's good to
- 32:41Speaker 5: be home because there's no place like America, right?
- 32:44Speaker 15: I know.
- 32:46Speaker 17: You have to come back to your daughters to cook
- 32:48Speaker 17: their dinner tomorrow.
- 32:50Speaker 5: That's right. That is right. Thank you for calling. We
- 32:54Speaker 5: appreciate it. Thank you for checking in. Do we have
- 32:57Speaker 5: time to do the monologue there? Let's go. Frank Sinatra, 1978,
- 33:02Speaker 5: just having fun on stage. It's going to be 1978 references.
- 33:07Speaker 5: See if you get them. Frank Sinatra in Vegas, please.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Thank you very much. You're very kind. And you show
- 33:13Speaker 4: great class. No, your way we're going to do it.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Hey, I don't come on your job and tell you
- 33:23Speaker 3: what to do. I don't show you how to pour
- 33:27Speaker 3: the whiskey in the bottles. I just drink it. Speaking
- 33:34Speaker 3: of that, folks, it is now post-time. I'll come of
- 33:45Speaker 3: all the years, excuse me, How come all the years
- 33:55Speaker 3: that Joey Lewis, who was the greatest saloon entertainer, I
- 34:01Speaker 3: think we'll agree, ever lived in bars and saloons where
- 34:03Speaker 3: he worked, how come nobody ever put out a whiskey
- 34:08Speaker 3: call post-time?
- 34:09Speaker 4: Seriously.
- 34:11Speaker 3: With his picture on the bottle instead of Jimmy Carter
- 34:14Speaker 3: or Billy Carter.
- 34:17Speaker 6: Right?
- 34:19Speaker 3: I mean, Jimmy Carter wouldn't even let hard.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Liquor in the White House.
- 34:23Speaker 3: How the hell does he dare do a thing like
- 34:25Speaker 3: that in the United States of Americo?
- 34:31Speaker 4: Can you see him saying to, what's her name, Jocelyn?
- 34:35Speaker 4: What's her name? Jocelyn?
- 34:38Speaker 3: Can you see him saying to his wife, hey baby,
- 34:42Speaker 3: what kind of wine are we going to have with
- 34:44Speaker 3: the grits?
- 34:47Speaker 4: I mean, you gotta know what kind of wine to
- 34:48Speaker 4: have with all the food, correct? Correct.
- 34:56Speaker 3: No, no, post time it should have been. That would
- 34:58Speaker 3: have been a hell of a package to make, believe me,
- 35:01Speaker 3: with Joey Lewis with the drink like this here, like
- 35:03Speaker 3: he used to look. And remember the words of Joey
- 35:06Speaker 3: Lewis who said the deathless phrase, a friend in need
- 35:12Speaker 3: is a pest. I wish you everything that you want
- 35:20Speaker 3: for yourselves and your children and your families and their
- 35:24Speaker 3: families in later years.
- 35:26Speaker 4: More than anything else, a great deal of health. I
- 35:30Speaker 4: drink to you.
- 35:31Speaker 6: Salud.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Padre. And may it send down the uno.
- 35:41Speaker 3: As long as you're going to wish 100 years, add
- 35:43Speaker 3: another year to it.
- 35:44Speaker 4: In case I get by the 100th.
- 35:48Speaker 3: And may you live to be 150 years old and
- 35:50Speaker 3: the last voice you hear is mine.
- 35:52Speaker 9: Now who the hell do you want to hear?
- 36:04Speaker 3: Claudine Lange? One of the great marksmen of all times?
- 36:15Speaker 3: She's a great singer, the sheriff can tell you that
- 36:17Speaker 3: up there. She studied under the same vocal coach as
- 36:26Speaker 3: Margaret Truman and Carol Burnett and Dinah Shaw and a
- 36:33Speaker 3: couple other broads studied under her. And I don't mean
- 36:37Speaker 3: Burt Reynolds either, I'm talking about a vocal coach. Hey,
- 36:46Speaker 3: I'm in a good mood. We have a request. I've
- 37:06Speaker 3: heard it already, but we had it before the show started.
- 37:11Speaker 3: When I want you to speak, we'll turn the lights
- 37:12Speaker 3: on you. No, I don't mean that facetiously. I mean
- 37:17Speaker 3: that abruptly. What the hell does that mean anyway?
- 37:22Speaker 2: I mean that abruptly.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Come on, it's hot up here. Oh, you take your
- 37:29Speaker 3: jacket off. No, no, I don't do that kind of act. Man,
- 37:34Speaker 3: Tom Jones or one of those cats. No, I leave
- 37:35Speaker 3: my clothes on.
- 37:37Speaker 9: No, I'm not knocking that, but I don't do that.
- 37:41Speaker 4: I like my suit. was the cost of $ 65 for
- 37:47Speaker 4: the suit.
- 37:51Speaker 3: This is a song by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy
- 37:53Speaker 3: Kahn arranged by Nelson Riddle for a film we did
- 37:57Speaker 3: years ago that was hidden the minute it was finished.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Warner Brothers stuck it in a closet somewhere, and I
- 38:05Speaker 3: couldn't blame them.
- 38:07Speaker 4: No, not really. It was kind of fun to make.
- 38:10Speaker 4: It had in the picture....
- 38:14Speaker 3: Aside from myself, we had, as I said earlier, old
- 38:17Speaker 3: brown-eyed Sammy and old red-eyed Mr.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Martin. He was in the picture. We saw him, but
- 38:24Speaker 4: he never saw us for the whole seven weeks it
- 38:26Speaker 4: took to shoot it.
- 38:28Speaker 3: And Joey Bishop and the wonderful Mr. Crosby and a
- 38:32Speaker 3: whole bunch of people were in the picture. And in
- 38:35Speaker 3: this particular scene in the picture, I did this song
- 38:38Speaker 3: at the top of the courthouse steps where I was
- 38:41Speaker 3: just acquitted. I finally won one in a movie. I've
- 38:50Speaker 3: been before more grand juries than a prosecutor.
- 38:55Speaker 4: You think I'm joking? Check the records. Excuse me, madam.
- 39:03Speaker 3: I thought they gave up gold teeth, madam. I thought
- 39:05Speaker 3: they put all the porcelain in now.
- 39:08Speaker 4: That's the worst joke I ever heard. Mother's ass life.
- 39:14Speaker 3: If my friend's father wasn't here, what I'd tell you
- 39:17Speaker 3: about him, I don't... What are you all staring at?
- 39:22Speaker 1: I can't tell you.
- 39:30Speaker 4: You what I'm drinking because I will offend somebody.
- 39:32Speaker 19: True?
- 39:34Speaker 4: I can tell you it's a bourbon, that's all.
- 39:36Speaker 1: It's a bourbon, of course.
- 39:39Speaker 17: No, I don't know.
- 39:40Speaker 4: I'm not gonna tell you what it is. I'll tell
- 39:44Speaker 4: you what it is.
- 39:45Speaker 1: No.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Spanish fly and ginger ale.
- 39:52Speaker 3: It was originally made by General Franco. Before he cashed in.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Now this could only happen to a guy like me.
- 40:17Speaker 3: And only happen in a town like this. And so
- 40:22Speaker 3: I say to.
- 40:22Speaker 4: Each of you, most gratefully, as I throw each one
- 40:28Speaker 4: of you a kiss.
- 40:40Speaker 17: Oh.
- 40:47Speaker 4: This, I'll find it, I'll find it. This is.
- 40:59Speaker 24: My kind of town Chicago is. My kind of town
- 41:08Speaker 24: Chicago is.
- 41:12Speaker 25: My kind of people too. People who, they smile at
- 41:20Speaker 25: you And each, each time.
- 41:24Speaker 4: That I roam Chicago.
- 41:27Speaker 26: Is It's calling me home Chicago is It makes me
- 41:37Speaker 26: jump up and down.
- 41:41Speaker 4: It's my kind of town Every bit of it is
- 41:57Speaker 4: mine It's my kind of town My kind of town
- 42:04Speaker 4: Chicago is mine.
- 42:08Speaker 7: My kind of razzmatazz And it has, it has all
- 42:15Speaker 7: that jazz and.
- 42:17Speaker 12: Beach Each time that I leave Chicago is It's.
- 42:25Speaker 7: Grabbing my sleeve Chicago is.
- 42:31Speaker 3: And that's a wriggly building Chicago is.
- 42:36Speaker 4: The Chicago Cubbies.
- 42:40Speaker 8: Chicago is one.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Town that'll never, never let you down.
- 42:47Speaker 1: It's my, all.
- 42:49Speaker 7: Of it is my right kind of town. Chicago, Chicago, Chicago,
- 42:59Speaker 7: right kind of town.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Chicago.
- 43:19Speaker 2: This is both of us. Sinatra showcase. Oh, This is
- 43:40Speaker 2: Boulevard's Sinatra Showcase with your host, Joe Piscopo, on Music Radio.
- 43:58Speaker 2: This is Boulevard's Sinatra Showcase with your host, Joe Piscopo,
- 44:04Speaker 2: on Music Radio.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Hey, Joe on the radio, Boulevard Sinatra Showcase. It would
- 44:10Speaker 5: not be Boulevard Sinatra Showcase without Hoboken Mary.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Let's go to Mary.
- 44:16Speaker 5: Mary, how are you? Thanks for calling in. How are
- 44:18Speaker 5: you tonight?
- 44:20Speaker 17: Doing great, Joe. I came in from Connecticut, Joe, because
- 44:24Speaker 17: my grandson came in from Memphis. So we all met
- 44:27Speaker 17: in Connecticut last night, and we had Thanksgiving already, Joe.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Oh, that's great. That is so good.
- 44:34Speaker 17: I love the way you say it.
- 44:35Speaker 5: You stay with the family because you're like, you're Miss
- 44:38Speaker 5: Jet Set. You're the Jet Set gal, you know, all
- 44:41Speaker 5: of us. So you take time with the family. This
- 44:44Speaker 5: is great. And when do you open for Sal Valentinetti,
- 44:47Speaker 5: which I just absolutely love?
- 44:49Speaker 17: We've got a lot of time. That's going to be
- 44:51Speaker 17: November 29th. We've got a lot of time before that show.
- 44:55Speaker 17: Hopefully I see you before that, Joe. But anyway, one
- 44:59Speaker 17: other thing. Joe, when you came to Hoboken, did you
- 45:03Speaker 17: go to the Hoboken Historical Museum?
- 45:07Speaker 19: Yes.
- 45:07Speaker 17: That show is all about Sinatra. You went there, right?
- 45:09Speaker 5: I did. We went there. And we actually had a
- 45:11Speaker 5: great time. That guy who runs it, I wish I
- 45:13Speaker 5: knew his name, was really good right there in Hoboken.
- 45:16Speaker 5: Right there in Hoboken, Mary. Hey, you know, Mary, I'm
- 45:19Speaker 5: going to come in. I'm going to come in and
- 45:20Speaker 5: we're going to see. We've got to do a little tour.
- 45:22Speaker 5: I've really got to take a date. All right, Barry,
- 45:24Speaker 5: we'll do that, all right? And we'll do our little
- 45:27Speaker 5: tour of Hoboken.
- 45:28Speaker 1: All right?
- 45:30Speaker 17: Wait, Joe, listen to me. His name is Bob Forsey.
- 45:32Speaker 17: He's a wonderful man. And he recently, we went on
- 45:37Speaker 17: a two-hour cruise around New York the other night. And
- 45:41Speaker 17: it was very, very nice. Yeah, very, very nice night. But, Joe,
- 45:45Speaker 17: tomorrow I'm going to be with Teresa and Tony. And
- 45:49Speaker 17: what's her name? Peggy and her husband. They're coming. My

- 49:32Speaker 5: but that's okay. We got no time for any music here. Yeah,
- 49:37Speaker 5: thank you, Elias. We will come back. We're going to
- 49:40Speaker 5: go back to Vegas in 1978. But I got to
- 49:42Speaker 5: tell you how wonderful it is to be on the radio.
- 49:45Speaker 5: We're live as live can be. And people are calling in,
- 49:47Speaker 5: and we have fun with everybody. And Mary gets so
- 49:50Speaker 5: involved with every, like, churches and businesses. And she goes out,
- 49:54Speaker 5: and she's become like a celebrity. And now Sal Valentinetti
- 49:57Speaker 5: has her opening for him at the Basie Theater. I
- 50:00Speaker 5: was just at the Basie last night with Brian Kilmey.
- 50:04Speaker 5: I want to give Brian a shout-out. And we went there,
- 50:06Speaker 5: and Brian, he was kicking off his book, Uniting the States.
- 50:09Speaker 5: And I went up there. I performed a little bit.
- 50:12Speaker 5: What a great theater. What a great theater. Right in
- 50:14Speaker 5: the hometown of who? Count Basie, baby. That's right. It's
- 50:18Speaker 5: the Count Basie Theater, and that is right there in
- 50:21Speaker 5: Red Bank. Hey, we're going to take a little bit
- 50:23Speaker 5: of a break. We're going to come back, and we're
- 50:24Speaker 5: going to get right into the concert with Mr. Sinatra
- 50:29Speaker 5: from Caesars. And then we're going to go to the
- 50:31Speaker 5: Nugget in Vegas and Caesars again, 1978, and we'll cover 1982.
- 50:37Speaker 5: Joe Biscopo, Boulevard Sinatra Showcase. I love you being with us.
- 50:41Speaker 5: And we are coming right back. Don't go away.
- 50:52Speaker 2: The Chairman of the Board, Old Blue Eyes, the Sultan
- 50:55Speaker 2: of Swoon.
- 50:56Speaker 11: Ladies and gentlemen, Frank Sinatra!
- 50:59Speaker 2: This is Bulova's Sinatra Showcase, with your host, Joe Piscopo,
- 51:06Speaker 2: on Music Radio. Music This is Bolivar's Sinatra Showcase.
- 51:28Speaker 3: I have discovered a young man whom I think is
- 51:30Speaker 3: going to be a superstar. He's got good stage presence,
- 51:33Speaker 3: great set of pipes.
- 51:34Speaker 4: He's Italian.
- 51:36Speaker 3: And he has a unique way with a phrase. But
- 51:39Speaker 3: more than that, there's just something.
- 51:40Speaker 27: I like about the guy.
- 51:41Speaker 3: You see what I think. You'll know what I think.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Here's my new discovery, Joe Piscopo.
- 51:48Speaker 5: Thank you, Mr. Sinatra. Yeah, it's Fiskepo, Boulevard Sinatra Showcase.
- 51:53Speaker 5: Great to have you with us on stage last night
- 51:55Speaker 5: at the Basie Theater with Brian Kilmeade. Just having a
- 51:58Speaker 5: great time. And my friend Arthur Lee from Life Act.
- 52:01Speaker 5: We were just, it was just a great time. And
- 52:04Speaker 5: I was telling the story when I met Mr. S.
- 52:06Speaker 5: And then I met him when he did that recording.
- 52:08Speaker 5: And he actually did that. That was on the Dionne
- 52:11Speaker 5: Warwick Solid Gold Show. And I got to meet Mr. Sinatra,
- 52:14Speaker 5: hang out with him. And I was in full Sinatra makeup. Oh,
- 52:17Speaker 5: my gosh. It was scary. But it was great. Hey,
- 52:19Speaker 5: I'll tell you what. Let's get to the music. Before
- 52:21Speaker 5: we go back to Caesars, I'm going to jump ahead,
- 52:24Speaker 5: if I may, to the Nugget. This is the Nugget.
- 52:27Speaker 5: And this is in Vegas. This is when Steve Wynn
- 52:30Speaker 5: had the Nugget in Vegas in 1982. And it's appropriate
- 52:34Speaker 5: because Greg from Michigan... As for New York, New York,
- 52:37Speaker 5: for of all people, Chris Cuomo and Stephen A. Smith, sure,
- 52:40Speaker 5: we could do that. So let's kick off this hour
- 52:42Speaker 5: with Mr. Sinatra from Caesars 1982, New York, New York.
- 52:46Speaker 5: Here's a big chance, fellas.
- 52:48Speaker 28: Horns up.
- 52:49Speaker 4: Everybody. Not bad. I think you broke something, though. New York,
- 53:09Speaker 4: New York's a hell of a town.
- 53:13Speaker 3: The Bronx is up and the battery's down and the
- 53:17Speaker 3: people ride in the hole in the ground.
- 53:21Speaker 4: New York, New.
- 53:22Speaker 7: York, it's a hell of a town. Chicago, Chicago, A
- 53:38Speaker 7: wonderful town A toddling town.
- 53:41Speaker 12: I lost my heart In Kansas.
- 53:44Speaker 28: City Spreading the news.
- 54:10Speaker 3: I'm leaving today I want to be a part of
- 54:18Speaker 3: it New York, New.
- 54:20Speaker 29: York These vagabond shoes.
- 54:27Speaker 8: They are longing to stray Right through the very.
- 54:34Speaker 4: Heart of it New York, New York.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I want to.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Wake up in a city.
- 54:45Speaker 4: That doesn't sleep.
- 54:49Speaker 3: And find I'm king of the hills.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Top of the heap. My L.A.
- 54:59Speaker 15: Blues.
- 55:02Speaker 4: They have melted away I'm not.
- 55:04Speaker 12: Gonna make a brand new start.
- 55:06Speaker 3: On it In old New York If I can make
- 55:09Speaker 3: it there, I'll make it.
- 55:23Speaker 7: Anyway, it's up to you.
- 55:27Speaker 4: New York, New York.
- 55:35Speaker 30: In New York, New York I want to wake up
- 55:50Speaker 30: In a city that never sleeps And find that I'm
- 55:57Speaker 30: number one Top of the list Head of the heap.
- 56:05Speaker 4: King of the.
- 56:06Speaker 31: Hill Oh, what a pain These little town blues.
- 56:27Speaker 12: They have melted away I.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Am about to make a brand new start of it.
- 56:43Speaker 4: In old New York.
- 56:54Speaker 3: If I can't make it there, I know that I'm
- 56:58Speaker 3: about to make it, baby.
- 57:01Speaker 4: Anywhere. It's up to you.
- 57:04Speaker 19: New York.
- 57:06Speaker 1: New York. New York.
- 57:29Speaker 3: There's a medley of saloon songs for you that we
- 57:34Speaker 3: usually do one song, but this is a wonderful arrangement
- 57:37Speaker 3: done by Nelson Riddle of two sensational songs. First one
- 57:43Speaker 3: written by Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin, the second one
- 57:46Speaker 3: by Rodgers and Hart. And it tells the story, the
- 57:49Speaker 3: usual story of the poor guy whose chick has split
- 57:54Speaker 3: and left him holding a dram of grass and about
- 58:00Speaker 3: 68 cents on the kitchen table, and some bad claret
- 58:05Speaker 3: wine that she had about a month old or something
- 58:10Speaker 3: that she made herself. He knew that because one day
- 58:15Speaker 3: when she was new, she had purple feet. That's how
- 58:17Speaker 3: he found out she was making the wine.
- 58:19Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 58:20Speaker 9: Oh, geez.
- 58:24Speaker 4: Oh, so she left in the VW with four flats.
- 58:29Speaker 3: And I don't mean the key either. I mean the tires. Anyway,
- 58:34Speaker 3: here it is arranged by Nelson Riddle.
- 58:38Speaker 12: The night is bitter The stars have.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Lost their glitter.
- 58:59Speaker 16: The winds get colder And suddenly you're old.
- 59:06Speaker 4: And all because.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Of the gal who got away.
- 59:20Speaker 4: No more her eager calls The writings on the wall.
- 59:30Speaker 7: All those dreams you dreamed They have all gone astray.
- 59:47Speaker 3: The gal who won you She's run off and undone
- 59:51Speaker 3: you That great beginning Has seen the final end I
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: don't know what happened.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: It's all a crazy.
- 1:00:08Speaker 12: Game No more that all-time thrill.
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: Because you have been put through the.
- 1:00:24Speaker 32: Mill And never a new love will ever seem the same.
- 1:00:50Speaker 16: Once I laughed when I heard her saying, That I'd
- 1:00:55Speaker 16: be playing solitaire Uneasy in my.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Easy chair.
- 1:01:10Speaker 16: It never entered my mind.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: Once she told me I was mistaken.
- 1:01:23Speaker 16: That I'd awaken with the sun And order orange juice.
- 1:01:33Speaker 33: For one It never entered my mind.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: She had what I lack myself.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Now I even have to scratch my back.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: Myself. Once she warned me.
- 1:02:09Speaker 16: That if she scorned me I'd say a lover's prayer.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: Again and wish That she was.
- 1:02:23Speaker 12: There again to get into my hair again.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: It never entered my.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: Mind.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: Good riddance, goodbye. Every trick of hers you are on to.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: But fools will be fools. And where's she gone? Where
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: has she gone?
- 1:03:14Speaker 34: The road gets rougher, it's lonelier and it's tougher.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: With hope you'll burn up, tomorrow maybe she'll turn up.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: There ain't no let up, live long night and day.
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: Ever since, since this world began There.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: Ain't nothing sadder than.
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: A long lost loser Looking for his guy.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: Who got away?
- 1:04:09Speaker 12: Please come back.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: Won't you come back?
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: Mmm Isn't that beautiful? Just Frank Sinatra, Vincent Falcone at
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: the piano. And I just love the way he would
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: just absolutely do that. However, that was in 1978. Let's
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: go to 1982. This is for David Schleisser. This is
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: for you, David, from Dr.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: Rock.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: For once in my life. Yeah, baby, let's do it.
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: You may proceed.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:05:19Speaker 35: For once in my life I got someone who needs me.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Someone I've needed so long.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: For once unafraid I can go where life leads me
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Somehow I know I'm.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: Gonna be strong For once I can touch what my heart.
- 1:05:46Speaker 7: Used to dream of long before I ever knew. Someone
- 1:05:55Speaker 7: warm like you could make my dream come true. For
- 1:06:06Speaker 7: once in my life I won't let sorrow hurt me
- 1:06:12Speaker 7: Not like it hurt me once before.
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: For once I've found someone I know won't desert me
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: And I'm not alone.
- 1:06:25Speaker 7: Anymore For once I can say, this is mine, you
- 1:06:33Speaker 7: can take it As long as there's love babe, I
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: know I'm gonna make.
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: It For once in my life, I got someone.
- 1:06:46Speaker 12: Who really needs me.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: For once I can say This is mine, you won't
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: take it Oh, I guess there's no faith I know
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna make it For once in my life I
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: got someone Yes, for once.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: In my life I found someone.
- 1:07:41Speaker 11: Once in my life.
- 1:07:44Speaker 7: I got someone who needs me.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: She needs me.
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: Nice tune. Good arrangement. What a joy.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: This is Bolivar's Sinatra Showcase. This is both of us.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Sinatra showcase with your host Joe Piscopo on music radio.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: This is both of us. Sinatra. showcase with your host
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Joe Piscopo on music radio.
- 1:09:07Speaker 20: All right.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: It's Piscopo on the radio. It's both of us. Sinatra showcase.
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: Let's get back to to Caesars. 1978. It's funny because
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: there was a priest in the audience and Mr. Sinatra
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: took his microphone and started blessing the crowd with his microphone.
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: So that's the way he starts it. And then I'm
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: going to let Mr. S talk into really one of
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: his finest performances from 1978 at Caesar's Palace.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Now, we have something that's been a request here. A
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: friend of mine who comes every night to see the show,
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: an old friend, is carrying a kind of a large torch.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: Truthfully, you don't know who he is, he's just a
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: friend of mine.
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: And, drink here, but don't eat here. It's called an ajita,
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: you know what ajita is? R-O-A-I-L-O-E-I-O-D-U-E-S. He asked me every
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: night to sing this song for him And I know
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: what that is there, about holding up one of them torches.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: Of course, I'm a good friend of Eddie Fisher's. And
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: Richard Burton.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: This is a song that's truly a request by Stephen Sondheim.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: And it's a strangely written song in the fact that
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: he's placed it in the locale or realm of a
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: circus tent. And there's about two people who have been
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: together for many, many years without putting the ring on
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: the finger. And one day, one of them gets restless
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: and decides to split. The other one at the same
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: moment says, I'd like to make it solid. So this
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: is the plea of the person who's waiting behind, being
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: left behind.
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: Stephen Sondheim's Sending the Clowns. Isn't it rich? Are we
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: a pair?
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Me here at last on the ground And you in.
- 1:11:35Speaker 16: Midair Send in the clown.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve?
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: One who keeps tearing around And wonder who can to move.
- 1:12:11Speaker 35: But where are the clowns? Send in the clowns.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Just when I stopped opening doors.
- 1:12:26Speaker 16: Finally finding the one that I wanted was yours.
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: Making my entrance again with my usual.
- 1:12:38Speaker 16: Flair So sure of my lines.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: And nobody's there.
- 1:12:54Speaker 16: Don't you love a farce?
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: My fault, I fear.
- 1:13:08Speaker 16: I thought that you'd want what I want I'm sorry,
- 1:13:15Speaker 16: my dear.
- 1:13:21Speaker 8: But where are the clouds? There ought to be clowns. Well,
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: maybe next year.
- 1:13:41Speaker 35: Isn't it rich?
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Isn't it queer?
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: Losing my timing this late in my life.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: But where are the clowns?
- 1:14:05Speaker 35: Send in the clowns Don't bother, they're here.
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: Thanks, Sinatra. Caesar's Palace, man. Bill Miller played piano on
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: that one. Hey, Joe Biscopo, full of a Sinatra showcase.
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: Before we break, let me get calls. I love that
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: you're calling, and I'm trying to get to all the calls.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: Sandy on Long Island. Hi, Sandy.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: Hi.
- 1:14:48Speaker 11: How are you?
- 1:14:49Speaker 15: Good.
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: I'm okay. Thanks so much for calling tonight. What's on
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: your mind?
- 1:14:53Speaker 17: I'd like to hear, wait, what's the name of it again?
- 1:14:59Speaker 13: I forgot the name of the song.
- 1:15:00Speaker 17: I got so nervous.
- 1:15:01Speaker 27: Wait a minute.
- 1:15:02Speaker 11: Give me a minute.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: It's okay.
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: It was a very good year. It was a very
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: good year for Sandy.
- 1:15:08Speaker 17: On Long Island. Yeah, I believe that's the name of it.
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's a very good choice. We'll try to
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: get to that if we can. Sandy, thank you for listening.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Thank you. God bless you, girl. Take care. Let me
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: go to Peggy, if I can, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Hi,
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: Jersey girl, Peggy.
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: How are you?
- 1:15:24Speaker 36: Jersey City, not far from Hoboken.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: That's it.
- 1:15:28Speaker 36: Yeah, thank you for taking my call. Good to talk
- 1:15:30Speaker 36: to you again, and I'd like to hear Our Love
- 1:15:33Speaker 36: is Here to Stay. I'm pretty sure Mr. Sinatra recorded
- 1:15:37Speaker 36: it a number of years ago, and that was played
- 1:15:40Speaker 36: at our wedding, so I thought it would be nice
- 1:15:42Speaker 36: to hear Mr.
- 1:15:43Speaker 13: Sinatra sing it.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: That is so good.
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: You know what?
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: We'll try to get there, Peggy, on that for sure. Hey,
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: and thank you. Thank you for calling in from Jersey City. Peggy,
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: you know what, it's interesting, Jersey City is where Frank
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: Sinatra got married to Nancy Barbato, it was, it was
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: in Hoboken, I thought it was St. Anne's, Hoboken, Mary
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: knows about St. Anne's, beautiful parish in Hoboken, by the way,
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: where I perform with Vinnie Falcone, Vinnie Falcone came, and
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: he was conducting the orchestra, we had a great, great
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: celebration of the St. Anne's parish, and and that is
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: in Hoboken, but when Mr. Sinatra got married, he went
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: to Jersey City, which is wild, that's all about Jersey,
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: if you're listening outside the area, you know, with Mr. Sinatra,
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: you know, and therein lies my love, that he's a
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: North Jersey Italian-American, especially as we celebrate Columbus Day, and
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: I was supposed to be down in Washington this weekend, but,
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: you know, I want to be with you, I wanted
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: to be with you as live as life can be,
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: and I've You know, I have a responsibility of being
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: on the radio and just having fun with you. We
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: appreciate you being there. You know, this is exactly where
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: I want to be. But happy Columbus Day. We did
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: a great Columbus Day. Best parade ever, by the way,
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: from the Columbus Citizens Foundation. Hey, it's Biscopo, Boulevard Sinatra Showcase.
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: More Mr. Sinatra from Vegas. Don't go away.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: This is Bolivar's Sinatra Showcase on Music Radio.
- 1:17:19Speaker 27: Music the chairman of the board, Old Blue Eyes, the
- 1:17:35Speaker 27: Sultan of Swoon.
- 1:17:36Speaker 11: Ladies and gentlemen, Frank Sinatra!
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: This is both of us, Sinatra Showcase, with your host,
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: Joe Piscopo, on music radio.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: Here's something that we go back to the, uh.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: Probably the first thing I ever recorded in the Harry
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: James days. Beautiful new arrangement by Nelson Riddle.
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: All or nothing at all.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Half a love never appealed to me.
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: If your heart never could.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: Yield to me No, I'd rather, rather have nothing at all.
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: Oh, nothing at all. If it's love, there is no in-between.
- 1:18:41Speaker 16: Why begin and cry for something that might have been?
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: No, I'd rather.
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: rather have nothing at all. Please don't bring your lips
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: close to my cheek. Don't you smile or I'll be
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: lost beyond recall. The kiss in your eyes and the
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: touch of your hand.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: Leaves me weak.
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: And my heart, it may grow dizzy.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: And fall.
- 1:19:20Speaker 35: And if I fell under the spell of your call.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: I would be, I'd be caught in the undertow.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: So you see, I gotta say no.
- 1:19:40Speaker 7: No, all or nothing at all.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: And if I fell, fell under the spell of your call,
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: I would be, I'd be caught in the undertow. So
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: you see, I have got to say no, no. Or
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: nothing at.
- 1:20:43Speaker 35: All Or nothing at all Or nothing at all Nothing
- 1:20:50Speaker 35: at all.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: Nothing at.
- 1:20:55Speaker 16: All Nelson Riddle's marvelous arrangement.
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: Of All or Nothing at All. Isn't that a great chart?
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: Mr.
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: Sinatra, chat, chat, you know, no R in that word, man,
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: for Mr. S. I love it. Just this is so great.
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: This is from Vegas. He just, you know, pull back
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: the curtain. This is Hoboken Francis Albert right there. Piscopo,
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: both of us, Sinatra Showcase. Great to have you with us.
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: So let's stay in Vegas. We'll say this is Caesars
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: Palace in Vegas. He signed a long-term contract with the
- 1:21:30Speaker 5: Caesars at the time. And he is surprised on the stage.
- 1:21:34Speaker 5: You will hear the crowd. One Dean Martin walks on
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: stage right before Mr. Sinatra sings Kick Outta You.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Thank you very much. Thank you. How are you, buddy?
- 1:21:59Speaker 16: I'm fine, baby.
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: You all right?
- 1:22:01Speaker 28: No, no, up there.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: No, you bought me a pair of boots, right?
- 1:22:11Speaker 28: A pair of boots?
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: A pair of boots.
- 1:22:12Speaker 35: I just came all the way from Hollywood to show you.
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: I'm wearing them.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: That's all.
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: Oh, isn't that nice? And I came to wish you
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: good luck. I hope you break both legs.
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: Isn't that what you say on the wire?
- 1:22:27Speaker 19: Huh?
- 1:22:28Speaker 16: And I hope you live to be 150 years old
- 1:22:29Speaker 16: and I'm your pallbearer.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: How about that? I'm a stranger here in town. Would
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: you direct me to your house?
- 1:22:40Speaker 8: There you go, there you go.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: No kidding.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: You think you'll be able to see me?
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: Did he get down there with a brick and a lake?
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: My story is much too sad to be told But practically.
- 1:23:14Speaker 8: Everything leaves me totally cold.
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: The only exception I know is the case.
- 1:23:23Speaker 16: When I'm out on a quiet spree Fighting vainly the.
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: Old ennui.
- 1:23:32Speaker 16: Then I suddenly turn and see.
- 1:23:37Speaker 29: Your fabulous face I get no kick from champagne Mere alcohol,
- 1:23:58Speaker 29: it doesn't move me at all Tell me why should
- 1:24:05Speaker 29: it be true That I get a kick.
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: Out of you.
- 1:24:16Speaker 8: Some dig the cocaine from Spain I'm sure that if
- 1:24:24Speaker 8: I took even one sniff It would bore me to
- 1:24:30Speaker 8: riff I get.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: A kick every time I see you standing.
- 1:24:34Speaker 8: There before me I get a kick though it's clear
- 1:24:37Speaker 8: to see.
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: You obviously, you do not.
- 1:25:03Speaker 8: Adore Some get a kick in a plane Flying too
- 1:25:15Speaker 8: high with some gal in the sky Is my idea.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: Of nothing to do.
- 1:25:25Speaker 37: Yet I get a kick out of you I get
- 1:25:58Speaker 37: a kick Every.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: Time I see you.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: Standing there before me I get a kick Though it's
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: clear to see That's you obviously You do not adore me.
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: I get no kick in a.
- 1:26:25Speaker 8: Plane Flying too high with some gal in the sky
- 1:26:34Speaker 8: is my idea of nothing to do.
- 1:26:41Speaker 37: Yet I get a kick.
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: You give me a boot, I get a kick.
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: Of you.
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: There it is.
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: Frank Sinatra with Dean Martin watching him. Dean Martin surprised Mr.
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: Sinatra on stage and sat down and watched the show. Buddies,
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: they were so, so, so close. Hey, can I go
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: back to jump forward to 1982? About that same time.
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: And Vincent Falcone, again, I think it was so cool
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: that Vinnie was, again, the music kind of arranger, conductor,
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: booker for Caesars. And then Mr. Sinatra picked him up
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: as a... his conductor years later, but this is Vincent
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: Falcone Jr. at the piano, and Mr. Sinatra in Vegas
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: in 1982 with just a killer version of I Can't
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: Get Started With You.
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: Very much.
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: Wonderful song by Vernon Duke and Ira Gershwin, made famous
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: by the great Bunny Berrigan. I'm a glum one, it's
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: explainable I met someone unattainable.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: Life's a bore. The world is my oyster. No more.
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: In all those papers where I led the news with
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: my capers, now we'll spread the news.
- 1:28:36Speaker 16: Superman turns out to be a flash in the pan
- 1:28:44Speaker 16: I've flown around the world in a plane Settled a
- 1:28:57Speaker 16: couple of revolutions in Spain And with kings I've a
- 1:29:04Speaker 16: la carte.
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: Still I can't get started.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: With you.
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: On the golf course I'm under par.
- 1:29:26Speaker 16: Warner Brothers would love to make me a star.
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: I got a house, my donna, what a house, it's
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: a show place. Still I can't get no place with you.
- 1:29:46Speaker 38: You are supreme. Lyrics I write of you. Dream, dream
- 1:30:01Speaker 38: day and night of you Then I scheme just for
- 1:30:09Speaker 38: the sight of you But what.
- 1:30:15Speaker 16: Good does it do in Cincinnati And even in Rangoon.
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: I hum a few notes and all those chicks swoon.
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: Still I'm so broken hearted because I can't get started
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: with you.
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: There it is, Mr. Sinatra, indeed. I can't get started
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: with you with Vinnie Falcone at the end. I believe
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: it could have been Charlie Turner on the horn, I'm thinking,
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: in the background. Just a great, great version. made famous
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: by a guy named Bunny Berrigan back in the day.
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: So Mr. Sinatra signs with Steve Wynn, and he goes
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: to the Golden Nugget in Vegas. And I remember hearing,
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: I think it was Steve Wynn or somebody telling me
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: this story. Somebody told me this story where it wasn't
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: even finished. The theater, little theater, I saw that Nugget
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: Theater was very small, like maybe 500, 600 seats. And
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: there was no dressing room. And when they started bringing Mr.
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: Sinatra in, He was ready to go on. And Steve
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: Wynn said to Frank Sinatra, Mr. S, all we got
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: is this elevator. It was an industrial kind of elevator
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: with both, you know, opens from the top and the bottom.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: And it was just an open elevator right before the showroom.
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: And Mr. S said, not a problem. I'll change in
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: the elevator. So he did. He went the elevator, changed
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: the elevator, until, of course, Steve Wynn became legendary and
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: built those great properties out in Vegas. But do you
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: remember the commercials? Do you remember the Golden Nugget commercials
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: with Frank Sinatra and Steve Wynn? Elias, let me hear those,
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: if I may.
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: Hi, I'm Steve Wynn, and this is one of the
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: beautiful suites in the Golden Nugget of.
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: Las Vegas, which, as everybody knows, is downtown.
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: Nevertheless, you'd be amazed if you knew how many.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: People think that this is uptown.
- 1:32:22Speaker 15: Hi, Mr.
- 1:32:23Speaker 19: Sinatra.
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: I'm Steve Wynn.
- 1:32:24Speaker 9: I run this place.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: You see, I get enough towels.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: Towels?
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: Golden Nugget is a beautiful place. And you know why?
- 1:32:40Speaker 16: Because these people who work here make it more beautiful.
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: Am I right, sweetheart?
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: There's my pal Al.
- 1:32:47Speaker 27: My man, Mr. S.
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: Now, from the minute you check in here, you're going
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: to get a big bunch of smiles like these.
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: Look at this.
- 1:32:54Speaker 28: They call me Blue Eyes.
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: And do not forget the great entertainer. Don't you forget
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: my towels.
- 1:33:00Speaker 28: What does he do here anyway?
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: Golden Nugget, Atlantic City.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: Only the best. It was easier back then. Let's go
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: to the Nugget. This is, my goodness gracious, this is 1987.
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: And this is Mr. Sinatra doing his version of Witchcraft.
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: It's a song by Carolyn Lee and Cy Coleman, Nelson
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: Riddle's orchestration.
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: Wonderful song. Those fingers in my hair.
- 1:33:32Speaker 16: That sly come hither stare Strips my conscience bare It's
- 1:33:39Speaker 16: witchcraft And I've got no defense for it. The heat
- 1:33:48Speaker 16: is too intense for it.
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: What good would common sense for it do?
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Cause it's witchcraft.
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: Wicked witchcraft.
- 1:34:06Speaker 39: And although I know it's strictly taboo When you rouse
- 1:34:16Speaker 39: the need in me My heart.
- 1:34:19Speaker 40: Says, yes indeed in me Proceed with what you are
- 1:34:24Speaker 40: leading me to.
- 1:34:30Speaker 16: It is such an ancient pitch One that I would
- 1:34:35Speaker 16: never switch There ain't.
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: No nicer witch than you Ah.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Let's.
- 1:35:01Speaker 41: Witchcraft That crazy witchcraft. Though I know it's simply taboo.
- 1:35:15Speaker 41: When you rouse the need in me, my heart says, yeah,
- 1:35:22Speaker 41: indeed in me.
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: Proceed with what you're leading me to.
- 1:35:31Speaker 16: Nelson Little's orchestration.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Pretty solid.
- 1:35:36Speaker 12: This is Bolivar's Sinatra Showcase.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: This is Boulevard's Sinatra Showcase with your host, Joe Piscopo
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: on Music Radio. This is Boulevard's Sinatra Showcase with your host,
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: Joe Piscopo on Music Radio.
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: Hey, Joe on the radio. Thank you, Elias, for doing
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: such a great job. Jackson, thank you for manning the phones.
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: And you know what? I want to end this on
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: my way, you know, and I know the request and
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: I'm looking at the request in front of me. And,
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: you know, I appreciate it so much. But we're going
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: to I think what we'll do is I want to
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: end in my way. And then from from Caesar's Palace,
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: which I love. And then next week, we're going to
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: do the Sands album, because the new release, the vinyl release,
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: it's re-released, and it's coming out next week. And then
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: we'll get to your requests the week after that, I think.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: But in the meantime, let's go to Mr. Sinatra, Caesar's Palace,
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: with the anthem.
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: This is Paul Anker's classic arrangement with the, I mean,
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: classic song, and Don Costa's great arrangement.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: And now....
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: The end is near, and so I face the final curtain.
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: My friend, I'll make it clear. I'll state my case,
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: of which I am certain. I've lived a life that's full.
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: Traveled each and every highway.
- 1:38:10Speaker 16: And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: Regrets, I had a few.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: But then again, too few to mention.
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: I did what I had to do I saw it
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: through Without exemption.
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: I planned each charted course Each careful step Along the
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: byway and more Much more than this.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: I did it my way.
- 1:39:04Speaker 34: Yes, there were times I guess you knew When I
- 1:39:13Speaker 34: bit off much more than I could chew But with
- 1:39:18Speaker 34: it all, when there was doubt, I ate it up,
- 1:39:26Speaker 34: then spit it out. I grew tall in spite of
- 1:39:32Speaker 34: it all and.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Did it.
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: My way. I've lost my laughter and pride. I had
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: my fill, my share of losing.
- 1:39:53Speaker 16: And now as tears subside I find it's all.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: Quite amusing To think I did all that And may
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: I say, not.
