- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode? I think it's time we keep counting. Luna: Yes! We did 31 to 40 last time. I've been practicing. So what's next? Lucas: Today we'll go from 41 to 50. If you're finding these episodes useful, you know what keeps them ad-free? Listener support. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to say thanks and help us keep going. Luna: Yeah, totally. It really helps. So, 41. How do you say that? Lucas: Quarante et un. Literally 'forty and one'. Say it with me: quarante et un. Luna: Quarante et un. That's easy. Like 31 but with quarante. Lucas: Exactly. Now 42: quarante-deux. And 43: quarante-trois. Luna: Quarante-deux, quarante-trois. They all start with quarante, right? Lucas: Right. Just like trente for the thirties. So 44 is quarante-quatre, 45 quarante-cinq. Luna: Quarante-quatre, quarante-cinq. I got those. What about 46? Lucas: Quarante-six. Then 47 quarante-sept, 48 quarante-huit, 49 quarante-neuf, and finally 50: cinquante. Luna: Whoa, 50 is different. Cinquante. That's a new base. Lucas: Yes, cinquante is fifty. Let's do a quick review. I'll say the number in English, you say it in French. Forty-one. Luna: Quarante et un. Lucas: Forty-two. Luna: Quarante-deux. Lucas: Forty-three. Luna: Quarante-trois. Lucas: Forty-four. Luna: Quarante-quatre. Lucas: Forty-five. Luna: Quarante-cinq. Lucas: Forty-six. Luna: Quarante-six. Lucas: Forty-seven. Luna: Quarante-sept. Lucas: Forty-eight. Luna: Quarante-huit. Lucas: Forty-nine. Luna: Quarante-neuf. Lucas: Fifty. Luna: Cinquante. That was great. Now let me try from 41 to 50 straight. Quarante et un, quarante-deux, quarante-trois, quarante-quatre, quarante-cinq, quarante-six, quarante-sept, quarante-huit, quarante-neuf, cinquante. Lucas: Perfect! You nailed it. Now let's use them in a mini scene. Imagine you're at a market and you want 45 apples. Luna: Je voudrais quarante-cinq pommes. Wow, that's a lot of apples. Lucas: Or maybe 48 croissants. Je voudrais quarante-huit croissants. Luna: Quarante-huit croissants. That's enough for a big party. Lucas: Exactly. So remember: from 41 to 49, it's quarante plus the unit number, except 41 which is quarante et un. And 50 is a new word: cinquante. Luna: Cinquante. Got it. I'll practice these while I walk my dog. Lucas: Great idea. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time for more French. Bye! Luna: À bientôt!
