Speaker 1: What's up everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. When it comes to Jeffrey Epstein and people
• 0:07
Speaker 1: running for the exits, one of the most interesting battles
• 0:11
Speaker 1: has always been at JP Morgan, where Jess Staley has
• 0:15
Speaker 1: said that Jamie Diamond was aware of Jeffrey Epstein and
• 0:19
Speaker 1: knew what kind of man Jeffrey Epstein was. Well, JP
• 0:22
Speaker 1: Morgan and Jamie Diamond, they have a completely different narrative,
• 0:27
Speaker 1: and somewhere in between is the truth. What that truth is? Well,
• 0:33
Speaker 1: why don't we dive into this article from the Times
• 0:36
Speaker 1: and see if we can get closer to it headlined
• 0:42
Speaker 1: Jess Staley verse Jamie Diamond, Who's telling the truth about
• 0:46
Speaker 1: the Epstein warnings? This article was authored by Josie and Zor.
• 0:54
Speaker 1: Jess Staley, a former asset manager at JP Morgan, told
• 0:57
Speaker 1: congressional hearing that he informed the bank's chief executive, Jamie Diamond,
• 1:01
Speaker 1: on several occasions about criminal investigations into their client, Jeffrey Epstein.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: And look, there's no doubt in my mind that that happened.
• 1:11
Speaker 1: Jess Staley wasn't some low level employee, wasn't somebody that
• 1:14
Speaker 1: couldn't reach out to Jamie Diamond whenever he wanted. So
• 1:18
Speaker 1: why would anyone think that Jamie Diamond wouldn't have any
• 1:21
Speaker 1: idea who Jeffrey Epstein was. Now, look, I'm not going
• 1:24
Speaker 1: to sit here and tell you that he knew what
• 1:26
Speaker 1: Epstein was doing, like intimately, but he heard rumors. I
• 1:30
Speaker 1: have no doubt about that, and I have no doubt
• 1:33
Speaker 1: that the people around them knew exactly what Epstein was.
• 1:37
Speaker 1: I mean, look at the jokes that these clowns were
• 1:39
Speaker 1: making in those email chains talking about the monster that
• 1:44
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein was. So in my opinion, both Jess Staley
• 1:47
Speaker 1: and Jamie Diamon knew who and what Jeffrey Epstein was. Now,
• 1:51
Speaker 1: the extent of the relationship between Jess Staley and Jeffrey
• 1:54
Speaker 1: Epstein was certainly much deeper, at least as we know,
• 1:59
Speaker 1: than Epstein and an any kind of relationship he might
• 2:01
Speaker 1: have had with Jamie Diamond. So all we have to
• 2:03
Speaker 1: go on really is Jess Staley's word. Meanwhile, with Jess Staley,
• 2:07
Speaker 1: there's a mountain of evidence that proves his friendship with
• 2:11
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein over the years. Staley agreed to testify in
• 2:15
Speaker 1: front of the House Oversight Committee after its chairman, James Comer,
• 2:19
Speaker 1: requested his appearance, saying that he believed Staley may have
• 2:22
Speaker 1: information that would help the inquiry into the US government's
• 2:25
Speaker 1: handling of the Epstein case. Now, if that was really
• 2:29
Speaker 1: what Comer was looking for, don't you think he'd be
• 2:31
Speaker 1: going absolutely berserk over the fact that everybody's names were
• 2:35
Speaker 1: redacted as far as the people who were making decisions.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: If we're going to hold the government accountable for missteps,
• 2:42
Speaker 1: then we have to know who was making those misteps.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: It wasn't the government as an entity. Real people made
• 2:48
Speaker 1: these decisions. The question is who are these people. Epstein
• 2:55
Speaker 1: bank with JP Morgan from nineteen ninety eight until about
• 2:57
Speaker 1: twenty thirteen. During much of that period, Staley, sixty nine,
• 3:03
Speaker 1: was the senior executive responsible for the private banks relationship.
• 3:07
Speaker 1: The Times understands that Staley told the committee during testimony
• 3:10
Speaker 1: on Thursday that he spoke to Diamond about Epstein on
• 3:13
Speaker 1: two occasions, once in two thousand and six, when Epstein
• 3:16
Speaker 1: was indicted in Florida on charges of solicitation of a
• 3:20
Speaker 1: minor for prostitution. Miners can't consent and they can't be prostitutes,
• 3:25
Speaker 1: But okay, and another occasion in two thousand and eight,
• 3:28
Speaker 1: when Epstein was serving a fifteen month sentence, he was
• 3:31
Speaker 1: first reported by Politico. Now Diamond denies it. He will
• 3:35
Speaker 1: take it to the grave. I had no idea what
• 3:38
Speaker 1: you're talking about. I had no idea who Epstein was,
• 3:41
Speaker 1: what he was doing, And anybody saying any different is
• 3:44
Speaker 1: lying to you. But for me, I find the whole
• 3:48
Speaker 1: group of these people to be the biggest liars on earth.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: And when I say these people, I mean the financial sector.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: I don't think they have a collective truthful bone in
• 3:57
Speaker 1: their body. Lawsuits brought against the US biggest bank by
• 4:02
Speaker 1: the US Virgin Islands, the home of Epstein's estate and
• 4:05
Speaker 1: victims of the late financier. Plaintiffs so ought to determine
• 4:09
Speaker 1: whether Diamond knew about Epstein's activities or decisions to keep
• 4:12
Speaker 1: him as a client, and they even deposed him. He
• 4:15
Speaker 1: sat for a deposition and claimed under oath that it
• 4:18
Speaker 1: was all a big lie. So both of them can't
• 4:21
Speaker 1: be telling the truth. Either Jes Staley's lying or Jamie
• 4:25
Speaker 1: Diamond's lying, or they're both lying in some capacity. Diamond
• 4:31
Speaker 1: testified under oath that he did not recall discussing Epstein
• 4:34
Speaker 1: before his arrest in twenty nineteen, he said he had
• 4:37
Speaker 1: no involvement in the decision to retain or eventually terminate
• 4:40
Speaker 1: Epstein as a client. In a letter to representatives on
• 4:44
Speaker 1: the committee this week, a spokesman for Diamond reiterated mister
• 4:48
Speaker 1: Diamond testified truthfully under oath he never met Epstein, never
• 4:52
Speaker 1: emailed them, and was not involved in any decision to
• 4:55
Speaker 1: have him as a client. Well, the buck stops with you, right.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: You're the boss, and if one of your executives, Jess Staley,
• 5:03
Speaker 1: is having relations with girls who are being abused by
• 5:05
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein and then emailing them about snow white and
• 5:08
Speaker 1: beauty and the Beast, I would say that as the
• 5:11
Speaker 1: boss of the company, you have some responsibility. Now, not
• 5:16
Speaker 1: the kind of responsibility obviously of hands on, but to
• 5:19
Speaker 1: just act like you have no idea, act like, oh, well,
• 5:22
Speaker 1: I had no idea what my top guy was doing.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: I just don't believe it. Now. Does that mean that
• 5:29
Speaker 1: Jamie Diamond's lying, No, but I just don't believe it. Sorry.
• 5:33
Speaker 1: Earlier this month, Senator Elizabeth Warren, a member of the
• 5:36
Speaker 1: Finance Committee, wrote to Diamond asking for clarification about the
• 5:39
Speaker 1: bank's relationship with Epstein and how much the chief executive knew.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: The letter reference published messages between Mandelsh and Epstein in
• 5:48
Speaker 1: which they discussed the possibility of Diamond calling the then
• 5:51
Speaker 1: UK Chancellor Alistair Darling. Mister Diamond's phone conversation with government
• 5:55
Speaker 1: officials including Alistair Darling during his time as Chancellor of
• 6:00
Speaker 1: the Exchequer or routine for the CEO of a global
• 6:03
Speaker 1: financial institution. JP Morgan said no letter those calls concerned
• 6:08
Speaker 1: economic and policy matters relevant to global banking. The record
• 6:12
Speaker 1: does not support any suggestion that those calls were improper
• 6:16
Speaker 1: or related to Epstein. Okay, I guess we'll just take
• 6:21
Speaker 1: your word for it. I mean, JP Morgan is a
• 6:24
Speaker 1: pillar of truth. Right. They've never been in business with comebacks,
• 6:28
Speaker 1: certainly nothing they've ever engaged in, right, never mind all
• 6:31
Speaker 1: the fines saying otherwise. Staley appeared voluntarily before the committee
• 6:37
Speaker 1: in a closed door hearing and was not under oath.
• 6:40
Speaker 1: Members of the committee said they wanted to bring Staley
• 6:42
Speaker 1: back through a subpoena, however, saying they did not believe
• 6:46
Speaker 1: he was being truthful with him should have been there
• 6:48
Speaker 1: under subpoena in the first place. Oh, let me have
• 6:51
Speaker 1: a voluntary sit down with so and so, because they're
• 6:54
Speaker 1: so truthful and we can just believe everything they say
• 6:57
Speaker 1: at face value. Mister Staley, in our opinion, is flat
• 7:03
Speaker 1: out lying, said Robert Garcia, the ranking Democratic member. He
• 7:07
Speaker 1: is claiming he had no real friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
• 7:10
Speaker 1: That is ridiculous. There's documented evidence in the Epstein files
• 7:14
Speaker 1: of a decade's long friendship, not just a friendship, but
• 7:17
Speaker 1: references of being best friends. He's become an oncredible witness,
• 7:22
Speaker 1: become he always was. Like this whole entire dog and
• 7:26
Speaker 1: Pony show is exactly that, a dog and pony show.
• 7:30
Speaker 1: And even Julie K. Brown's catching on now. But for me,
• 7:33
Speaker 1: I can sniff this bullshit out right away. You ain't
• 7:36
Speaker 1: slipping no kangaroo court by me. Staley has not been
• 7:42
Speaker 1: criminally charged with facilitating sex trafficking. Staley is repeatedly denied
• 7:47
Speaker 1: allegations of wrongdoing in the friendship. Oh yeah, you know,
• 7:50
Speaker 1: sleeping with a girl that was being abused by Epstein
• 7:53
Speaker 1: and trafficked by him. No big deal, I didn't know.
• 7:59
Speaker 1: The former Barclays Bank chief executive developed a close friendship
• 8:03
Speaker 1: with Epstein. According to correspondence released by the US Department
• 8:07
Speaker 1: of Justice earlier this year, Staley exchanged more than twelve
• 8:10
Speaker 1: hundred emails with him, visited his properties, and described him
• 8:15
Speaker 1: as being like family, and he also paid him a
• 8:17
Speaker 1: visit in the lock up. Sounds like a pretty good
• 8:20
Speaker 1: friend to me. Documents in the files also indicate that
• 8:25
Speaker 1: Epstein asked an unnamed woman to purchase a snow white costume.
• 8:30
Speaker 1: Epstein sent Staley a blank email with an attached photograph
• 8:33
Speaker 1: of a young woman wearing the costume. Staley messaged Epstein
• 8:37
Speaker 1: on July tenth, twenty ten, that was fun say how
• 8:40
Speaker 1: to snow white? After Epstein had already been convicted as
• 8:43
Speaker 1: a child molester. But sure, go on, Jess Staley, tell
• 8:47
Speaker 1: us some more about how great your judgment is. Stale
• 8:51
Speaker 1: is reported to have told the committee on Thursday that
• 8:54
Speaker 1: he was unsure who the woman was. Oh yeah, I
• 8:56
Speaker 1: had no idea. I had her dress up as snow white.
• 8:59
Speaker 1: I did God knows what to her, but I have
• 9:02
Speaker 1: no idea who she is. In twenty nineteen, after Epstein's death,
• 9:07
Speaker 1: the UK Financial Conduct Authority asked Barclays to explain Staley's
• 9:12
Speaker 1: relationship with Epstein. Staley stepped down in twenty twenty one
• 9:16
Speaker 1: after six years at the British Bank. He was fined
• 9:19
Speaker 1: one point one million pounds and banned from Britain's financial
• 9:22
Speaker 1: industry for downplaying his close relationship with Epstein. Well, it
• 9:27
Speaker 1: was a lot more than that, and this all happened
• 9:30
Speaker 1: the first time around. So like all the people that
• 9:33
Speaker 1: are showing up now, and I appreciate it, but all
• 9:36
Speaker 1: these people were outed years ago. Les Wexner forced to
• 9:41
Speaker 1: step down, Leon Black forced to step down, Jess Staley
• 9:45
Speaker 1: forced to step down. And this all happened back in
• 9:48
Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, twenty twenty, but then it stalled. Nothing else
• 9:53
Speaker 1: came of it. But all those people had to step
• 9:58
Speaker 1: down from their boards, had to take a step back
• 10:01
Speaker 1: from their businesses. And that's because they knew the heat
• 10:04
Speaker 1: was on and they thought stepping down would be the
• 10:06
Speaker 1: end of it. Well, the file scamrolling around and guess what,
• 10:10
Speaker 1: it wasn't the end of it. Patricia Wexler, a spokeswoman
• 10:14
Speaker 1: for JP Morgan, told Politico of Staley's alleged discussions with
• 10:18
Speaker 1: Jamie Diamond about Epstein. No such conversation ever occurred and
• 10:23
Speaker 1: Staley lacks credibility. A UK tribunal found Staley to be
• 10:27
Speaker 1: evasive and unreliable. Well that's true, but let's not act
• 10:31
  Speaker 1: like that's just a just dally problem. There's a lack
• 10:34
Speaker 1: of honesty amongst all these people. Epstein's victims later sued
• 10:39
Speaker 1: JP Morgan in his civil case over accusations it knowingly
• 10:42
Speaker 1: profited from his illicit sex trafficking scheme. The bank, which
• 10:46
Speaker 1: paid out three hundred and seventy five million across two settlements,
• 10:50
Speaker 1: then sued Daily for allegedly covering up information about the
• 10:53
Speaker 1: late financier that may have seen him dropped as a client. Instead,
• 10:58
Speaker 1: they reached the confidential settlement. It's always a confidential settlement,
• 11:02
Speaker 1: isn't it always private, always behind the scenes and out
• 11:07
Speaker 1: of the view of mirror peasants like you and me.
• 11:10
Speaker 1: So I wonder if Congress is going to try and
• 11:13
Speaker 1: hold him accountable one way or the other. And if
• 11:15
Speaker 1: he was lying about Jamie Diamond, that should be something
• 11:18
Speaker 1: that's sanctionable. But if he's telling the truth, then the
• 11:21
Speaker 1: question is when is Jamie Diamond coming to speak before Congress.
• 11:28
