- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes eighth three through eight oh five,
- 0:17Speaker 1: The Past that He let go of, Vince Smokes, Sany
- 0:21Speaker 1: to the East, Blue Soanji's resolute departure, and a battle
- 0:26Speaker 1: of limits, Loofy and the Infinite Biscuits. In these episodes,
- 0:36Speaker 1: everything about Sonji's story makes me so incredibly sad, you guys,
- 0:41Speaker 1: devastating truly. However, I'm really excited about what's going on
- 0:46Speaker 1: with Lufy. It's even better than I was hoping. Welcome
- 0:51Speaker 1: to spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Thank you very much once again to Bernadette for commissioning
- 1:17Speaker 1: this episode. Yeah, you guys, I wasn't prepared for how
- 1:26Speaker 1: sad I would like. The whole thing with Sanji's family
- 1:29Speaker 1: was going to make me. I you know, it's a
- 1:33Speaker 1: weird thing where some things, for reasons that you can't
- 1:37Speaker 1: even quite put into words, will just hit you, you know,
- 1:41Speaker 1: in a certain way. And I think that there was
- 1:45Speaker 1: something about the reveal of his family being actually trying
- 1:53Speaker 1: to like manipulate the genes of him and his brothers
- 1:57Speaker 1: and sisters to be less than human. In terms they
- 2:02Speaker 1: consider it more than human. But you know, I said
- 2:06Speaker 1: what I said, I just feel like there's something about
- 2:12Speaker 1: that aspect that adds another layer of ugliness to the
- 2:18Speaker 1: whole business and makes it really, really sad. It's I
- 2:26Speaker 1: think it's the fact that like, none of these kids
- 2:30Speaker 1: really got nobody gets a choice in who they are
- 2:35Speaker 1: or what they are like when they are born, right,
- 2:39Speaker 1: But it's it's a different thing to be like you
- 2:46Speaker 1: were at the Mercy of Chance, like all the rest
- 2:49Speaker 1: of us versus we engineered you to not have emotions.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It's just the one is, well, you know, that's tough,
- 3:01Speaker 1: but we all deal with it. And the other is.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It's like.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Almost a part of me feels as bad for his
- 3:13Speaker 1: brothers as I do for him. And I say his
- 3:16Speaker 1: brothers because his sister, for some reason, is the one
- 3:21Speaker 1: out of the four of them that has emotion. As
- 3:24Speaker 1: she says later, I can't help but feel like a
- 3:30Speaker 1: bit of a way about the fact that the only
- 3:32Speaker 1: girl in the whole grouping, you know, is like, because
- 3:36Speaker 1: it just it's such a thing to make like the
- 3:38Speaker 1: woman emotional. But whatever, we'll set that aside. I'm I
- 3:44Speaker 1: just feel sorry for them as well, in a way
- 3:49Speaker 1: that's like feutile, because I know they don't feel sorry,
- 3:52Speaker 1: they're not ashamed, they don't feel like they got ripped
- 3:56Speaker 1: off of a potential normal life. They feel like they
- 3:59Speaker 1: got the best deal. And so it's that kind of
- 4:06Speaker 1: thing that happens a lot of times with somebody who
- 4:09Speaker 1: is particularly awful, is that you feel a sort of
- 4:12Speaker 1: weird pity for them because you recognize the reason that
- 4:17Speaker 1: they are likely awful is because something's like kind of
- 4:22Speaker 1: broken in them. But that compassion or pity if you
- 4:28Speaker 1: want to be kind of, you know, less generous about it,
- 4:34Speaker 1: it doesn't do any good really, because it's not like
- 4:38Speaker 1: that person feels anything like what you are feeling about them.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They don't see it. And thus it's almost more frustrating
- 4:50Speaker 1: to be in that position where you not only kind
- 4:53Speaker 1: of despise someone, you pity them, and you know that
- 4:58Speaker 1: they will never get where you're coming from because they
- 5:02Speaker 1: have no self awareness or they have been brought up
- 5:05Speaker 1: with such a wrong headed set of values that they're
- 5:09Speaker 1: never going to be able to have perspective unless they
- 5:13Speaker 1: undergo some kind of really radical shift that's probably going
- 5:17Speaker 1: to be like a lifetime work. You know, so let's see. Oh,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Sarah fem was chuckling so hard last time, you saying, luf,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you should just eat the biscuit. Soldier. We are going
- 5:29Speaker 1: to get to that judge is rocketing up. That worst
- 5:33Speaker 1: dad in one piece short. His sister is older than them,
- 5:36Speaker 1: so we had her before the experiments. Oh okay, right
- 5:39Speaker 1: right right, And keeping with the number theme, ray means
- 5:44Speaker 1: zero okay, right right, thank you? Yeah, And like the
- 5:51Speaker 1: like I said, I just it's always it's just a
- 5:53Speaker 1: thing to have the woman be like the compassionate nurturer
- 5:58Speaker 1: and the caring one, you know, the that's the oldest
- 6:00Speaker 1: could have been a boy. We could have had the
- 6:04Speaker 1: like there be more than one girl. We could have
- 6:06Speaker 1: done many things so that it didn't wind up like this.
- 6:09Speaker 1: But it is what it is. And everything with Sanji's
- 6:15Speaker 1: like being a failed experiment, there there is something that
- 6:22Speaker 1: is you know, it was already awful the way that
- 6:26Speaker 1: he was being treated, the way that he was being diminished,
- 6:31Speaker 1: but it wasn't quite as dehumanizing as the like addition
- 6:40Speaker 1: of oh and I don't even really see you as
- 6:45Speaker 1: a person, I see you as a Petri dish that
- 6:50Speaker 1: didn't produce the thing that I was looking for, And honestly,
- 6:57Speaker 1: there's a part of me that's almost in a way
- 7:01Speaker 1: relieved that that's sort of at the base of this,
- 7:04Speaker 1: because it's like it's less even about Sonji as a person,
- 7:08Speaker 1: but also the fact that it's less about him as
- 7:11Speaker 1: a person makes it more terrible, you know what I'm saying,
- 7:13Speaker 1: Like it's just a very mixed bag, and I just
- 7:19Speaker 1: really I, oh, you know what, Saraphim is making a
- 7:23Speaker 1: very solid point. She's not the only one. Sonji's whole
- 7:26Speaker 1: deal is that he isn't like the brothers and has
- 7:28Speaker 1: the compassion in kindness his brother's life. Fair point, Saraphim,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm not even seeing Sangi as like part of this
- 7:35Speaker 1: because he's just so you know what I mean. But
- 7:38Speaker 1: de dooy, you're right. When you're right, you're right. So
- 7:45Speaker 1: the whole thing about you guys. I don't know if
- 7:48Speaker 1: anybody has seen the movie The Man in the Iron Mask,
- 7:51Speaker 1: which I think was Leonardo DiCaprio. I remember it being
- 7:55Speaker 1: such a thing when it came out because it was
- 7:58Speaker 1: after Titanic. I'm pretty sure, so all of the you know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: people who are into men across the world were excited
- 8:06Speaker 1: for there to be another movie with his pretty face
- 8:08Speaker 1: in it, and then the movie turned out that it
- 8:11Speaker 1: was like not going to be showing his pretty face
- 8:13Speaker 1: as much as we wanted, and we were all sort
- 8:15Speaker 1: of like, well, what the fuck, you know, And I
- 8:18Speaker 1: don't know if it was anything like what's going on here.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I'm a little unclear as to the putting the mask
- 8:30Speaker 1: on him. I'm assuming is to keep the other servants
- 8:34Speaker 1: from like seeing who he is while he's in there,
- 8:38Speaker 1: you know. And I can only be grateful that the
- 8:42Speaker 1: father didn't think of doing something much more horrible to
- 8:45Speaker 1: change what Sanji looks like a mask. It could be worse,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I guess, you know. But it's this all turns out
- 8:56Speaker 1: to be very different from what I was sort of expecting.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And this is what of those things where I don't
- 9:02Speaker 1: even quite realize that I have this expectation until it
- 9:08Speaker 1: starts to go a different way, and then I'm like, oh,
- 9:11Speaker 1: I definitely was like thinking we were going in a
- 9:14Speaker 1: certain direction with this, and I wasn't aware that I
- 9:17Speaker 1: had that. But I think that what I was expecting
- 9:23Speaker 1: to have happened was that Soanji would simply reach the
- 9:30Speaker 1: end of his tether with his family and get the
- 9:34Speaker 1: fuck out of there on his own, and probably like
- 9:38Speaker 1: with the aid of somebody close to him, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and it's like, it doesn't not go that way. That
- 9:48Speaker 1: does actually wind up being kind of what happens, but
- 9:51Speaker 1: it's not at all the way I had expected, because
- 9:58Speaker 1: his father puts him down into this this cell with
- 10:06Speaker 1: the mask on and tells everybody my son died. It
- 10:12Speaker 1: was so tragic, you know, the whole thing, which later
- 10:16Speaker 1: leads to his brother's being like, well, I think he
- 10:20Speaker 1: would rather Sonji be dead, so maybe we should just
- 10:27Speaker 1: do that for him and he'll be pleased. Honestly, I
- 10:32Speaker 1: think they're probably right about that. It makes me super
- 10:38Speaker 1: said to say it, but I think that could be
- 10:40Speaker 1: completely correct. But later on it turns out that his
- 10:45Speaker 1: father knows that he is leaving. His father is agreeable
- 10:52Speaker 1: to it and amenable to it because, as he puts it,
- 10:57Speaker 1: Soanji's whole existence is a shame upon him. And so
- 11:04Speaker 1: if Sanji is willing to leave and never tell anybody
- 11:10Speaker 1: who he is related to, then sure, this is actually
- 11:15Speaker 1: as close to what I wanted as I'm going to get.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I am going to be able to banish you without
- 11:22Speaker 1: even having to banish you. Amazing, And that was the
- 11:27Speaker 1: part that I really wasn't expecting. I just was so
- 11:31Speaker 1: certain that he was going to somehow break out of
- 11:35Speaker 1: here completely on his own. And there is something about
- 11:39Speaker 1: the fact that his father agrees to like let him
- 11:43Speaker 1: go off on his own that I like, it makes
- 11:49Speaker 1: sense thinking about the way that he was received, that
- 11:53Speaker 1: it was all voluntary and that his dad actually knew
- 11:56Speaker 1: about it, because if his other wanted Sonji under his control,
- 12:04Speaker 1: he probably would have put the word out a lot earlier.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And he wasn't at all like bothered by Sanji still
- 12:14Speaker 1: being alive or still being out there. It's just interesting
- 12:18Speaker 1: that he was insisting Sanji not tell anybody who he's
- 12:23Speaker 1: related to, and then turns around as soon as he
- 12:27Speaker 1: gets the chance to make use of his, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 1: his genetic line for this deal and is like no, no, no, no, yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: that's my son. It makes complete sense. But it's just
- 12:38Speaker 1: like so infuriating, you know. But yes, so the whole
- 12:44Speaker 1: thing with him, we have this like flashback from when
- 12:47Speaker 1: Sanji was really small and just starting to get into cooking,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and we see this like series of bandages that he
- 12:57Speaker 1: has on his fingers from cutting himself with the ns
- 13:00Speaker 1: all the time, and he is making this like god
- 13:08Speaker 1: awful meal for his sick mother, and the whole thing
- 13:18Speaker 1: with this it's so funny because, like, you know, it's
- 13:22Speaker 1: a it's a stereotype that I say stereotype. I'm not
- 13:25Speaker 1: even really sure if that's the word I want, but like,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, a kid making their first meal is going
- 13:32Speaker 1: to fuck it up, and it's they're going to make
- 13:34Speaker 1: something that's like basically inedible and their parent just has
- 13:38Speaker 1: to like pretend to like it, or if they're cruel,
- 13:41Speaker 1: be like no, I'm not fucking eating this, you know.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And I was sort of like, okay, so probably with Soanjy,
- 13:50Speaker 1: we're gonna skip that. And he's gonna wind up being
- 13:52Speaker 1: great at this right away because he's just gifted. Nope, nope,
- 13:57Speaker 1: not even a little bit. He makes this this horrible
- 14:01Speaker 1: looking meal. Later on, he tries to be he tries
- 14:07Speaker 1: to say that, oh, well, I fell and I smushed
- 14:09Speaker 1: it all together, and all of these things resulted in
- 14:13Speaker 1: this otherwise totally valid meal being completely inedible. But this
- 14:22Speaker 1: instead turns out to be inedible from the start, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: he's like very proud of it, and I love the
- 14:29Speaker 1: chef looking at what he's made and being like dude,
- 14:32Speaker 1: oh my god, really, and then the maid like deciding
- 14:37Speaker 1: she's trying. I appreciated the maid a lot where she's
- 14:41Speaker 1: sort of, you know, the go between in seeing his mother,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and she says something like, well, it's not as bad
- 14:52Speaker 1: as it looks, and the way it's animated, there's like
- 14:55Speaker 1: this black and purple miass must some sort of coming
- 14:59Speaker 1: off it, like it probably stinks really bad, and it
- 15:02Speaker 1: will shape itself into sort of like a skull to
- 15:04Speaker 1: make it like this is deadly, like you will die
- 15:07Speaker 1: if you eat this, and she takes a little bite
- 15:11Speaker 1: and she all like, you know, I'm assuming probably pukes.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And then we jumped to her having made a much nicer,
- 15:21Speaker 1: more presentable meal and putting that in front of his
- 15:25Speaker 1: mom and saying, Sanji made this for you, and his
- 15:30Speaker 1: mom immediately is like, okay, what did he really make?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Tell me what he really made, And when the maid
- 15:40Speaker 1: says she threw it in the garbage, the mom is like,
- 15:42Speaker 1: go get it. And I was like, okay, look, I
- 15:45Speaker 1: respect you wanting to try with he actually, but it's
- 15:47Speaker 1: literally been in the garbage lady like let it go,
- 15:49Speaker 1: but no, she will not let it go. And she
- 15:52Speaker 1: eats this hideous thing and congratulates him and doesn't make
- 16:01Speaker 1: it seem like it's disgusting at all, and then asks
- 16:05Speaker 1: when he's going to cook for her again. And it's
- 16:09Speaker 1: just so sweet to see a parent who is so
- 16:15Speaker 1: supportive despite their kid just not being amazing at what
- 16:19Speaker 1: they You know, kids, we have this thing, I feel
- 16:23Speaker 1: like lately in our culture where we really seem to
- 16:28Speaker 1: think that if somebody is like meant to be doing something,
- 16:31Speaker 1: that they are going to be great at it right away,
- 16:35Speaker 1: in like, this is the expectation that I brought to
- 16:38Speaker 1: this myself, and I think that there is I feel
- 16:42Speaker 1: like we claim to value hard work in the American culture,
- 16:49Speaker 1: but the truth is that we really want divine intervention. Basically,
- 16:56Speaker 1: we want completely unbelievable talent at a level that is
- 17:00Speaker 1: like unreasonable to expect, and we want it to be
- 17:05Speaker 1: immediately profitable. And it's just this result of like hyper
- 17:09Speaker 1: capitalism being what it is, and it's just made it
- 17:13Speaker 1: in our expectations into this thing that's like totally unreasonable.
- 17:20Speaker 1: So the whole thing here about he takes an interest,
- 17:26Speaker 1: but he's not good at it right away. I just
- 17:30Speaker 1: appreciated it because I was not even really stopping to
- 17:34Speaker 1: look at the fact that I fully expected him to
- 17:38Speaker 1: be great at it too. You know, I wouldn't have
- 17:42Speaker 1: blinked any honestly, if he had been great at it
- 17:47Speaker 1: right away. I don't think I would have like found
- 17:49Speaker 1: a problem with it. I might have brought it up
- 17:51Speaker 1: that we have this expectation and that it's sort of unreasonable,
- 17:55Speaker 1: but I don't think I would have even been bothered
- 17:57Speaker 1: because of it being the show and one piece so
- 18:00Speaker 1: exaggerated in so many areas that it would have been fine.
- 18:05Speaker 1: And so just the fact that it didn't go that
- 18:10Speaker 1: way and he's allowed to be bad at it and
- 18:14Speaker 1: had the support anyway, that was just lovely. I really
- 18:19Speaker 1: appreciated it. Oh, Florian says, remember Duval and that he
- 18:25Speaker 1: wore an iron mask to hide his face that looked
- 18:27Speaker 1: like Sanji's bad wanted poster. Sonji got really mad looking back,
- 18:33Speaker 1: It feels more than just a joke on Odo's part.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I didn't remember that, Florian. Oh, wow, yeah, I guess,
- 18:42Speaker 1: like because we don't see Duval's face for a minute,
- 18:45Speaker 1: I had forgotten that how weird. Sarah him says this
- 18:51Speaker 1: backstory also puts his inability to hurt women in a
- 18:53Speaker 1: slightly different lay, as the only people who were ever
- 18:55Speaker 1: nice to him growing up were his mother and sister. Yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 1: that's true, And we all see a flashback with him
- 19:04Speaker 1: and Zeph where apparently all of the crewmates on the
- 19:09Speaker 1: ship are like chanting women women because they want Zep
- 19:17Speaker 1: to hire women to work in the kitchen, assuming that
- 19:22Speaker 1: they can sexually harass, slash, rape them, or intimidate them
- 19:25Speaker 1: into having sex with them, whatever. And this is one
- 19:29Speaker 1: of those things that comes up all the time where
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's like we simultaneously act like all men aren't monsters
- 19:37Speaker 1: and they wouldn't all do terrible things. But also, I
- 19:42Speaker 1: won't even consider putting a woman in a situation where
- 19:46Speaker 1: she's the only one amongst a lot of men, because
- 19:48Speaker 1: that seems super dangerous to her. Yeah, it is super
- 19:51Speaker 1: dangerous to her, probably because you never know who is
- 19:54Speaker 1: going to be the one to do something and go
- 19:55Speaker 1: too far. But we just like want to be very
- 19:58Speaker 1: contradictory in the message that we're sending. Zef's explanation is
- 20:04Speaker 1: that he is too physically rough in his training, and
- 20:11Speaker 1: he would never feel comfortable like kicking a girl while
- 20:18Speaker 1: teaching her the way that he would any of the boys,
- 20:22Speaker 1: which you know, it's hard for me to in this
- 20:27Speaker 1: year twenty twenty five be like, yeah, kicking boys is fine.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I you know, obviously do not stand by that, but
- 20:35Speaker 1: I understand that in this world, in the one piece world,
- 20:42Speaker 1: physically abusing kids, even when you love them, isn't at
- 20:47Speaker 1: all off limits. It's wild how much this is a thing,
- 20:51Speaker 1: Chopper story being the one that really bothered me the
- 20:54Speaker 1: most in how it was treated as charming and normalized
- 20:58Speaker 1: in this way. So you know, we'll set all that aside.
- 21:03Speaker 1: But honestly, Zef's explanation as to why he wouldn't bring
- 21:07Speaker 1: a woman onto the ship, to me is very much
- 21:11Speaker 1: a smoke screen for the fact that a woman would
- 21:13Speaker 1: not be safe. She just wouldn't. It's just a fact, like,
- 21:16Speaker 1: let's be real about it, and the like the reaction
- 21:27Speaker 1: that Sanji has is why wouldn't you just kick a girl?
- 21:32Speaker 1: Like you know, he's seen the way that his sister
- 21:36Speaker 1: was thrown into everything just like his brothers, and there
- 21:40Speaker 1: was the same expectation of her, and so for him,
- 21:45Speaker 1: he's just that's just do the same thing, and Zeph
- 21:50Speaker 1: is like, absolutely the fuck not not only am I
- 21:55Speaker 1: not going to do that, but don't you ever let
- 21:57Speaker 1: me catch you doing that, because if you were to
- 22:01Speaker 1: do something that despicable, I would have to cut your
- 22:09Speaker 1: balls off and slit my own throat. Every time something
- 22:20Speaker 1: like this pops up in the dub I'm just startled
- 22:23Speaker 1: and pearl clutching again the fact that he's allowed to
- 22:28Speaker 1: say I would cut your balls off, which just startled
- 22:33Speaker 1: me so badly. He literally says that and then slit
- 22:36Speaker 1: my own throat, and I love that. Like the way
- 22:39Speaker 1: that Sanji reacts is in, oh my god, why would
- 22:42Speaker 1: you cut my balls off? Sonji says, why would you
- 22:45Speaker 1: cut your own throat? You know what Sanji did for you?
- 22:50Speaker 1: And he says, because I have to take responsibility as
- 22:53Speaker 1: the parent for the child's behavior. And it's very like
- 22:57Speaker 1: clearly just a moment of Anjie being claimed by this
- 23:02Speaker 1: man as his kid. Essentially, that's like really meaningful and
- 23:08Speaker 1: it was really sweet. But yeah, the whole I will
- 23:13Speaker 1: cut your pulse up and slip my own throat. My god,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I was just not ready for that at all. Florian says,
- 23:22Speaker 1: I love that Sonji worked to get as good as
- 23:24Speaker 1: he does in cooking and fighting, even though he was
- 23:26Speaker 1: a failure. He wasn't and isn't love this sar for
- 23:29Speaker 1: Sonji agree, even though it is terrible love the drama fair.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I won't judge you for that. Yeah, I'm just really
- 23:39Speaker 1: sort of there's all there's Look, I don't necessarily I'm
- 23:48Speaker 1: gonna preface this. I don't actually necessarily think that this
- 23:55Speaker 1: is really what's happening here. But Sis being such a
- 24:01Speaker 1: perv and also having only ever gotten affection from women,
- 24:10Speaker 1: there definitely feels like there's a psychological link there where
- 24:16Speaker 1: those that's the gender he has felt safe around his
- 24:20Speaker 1: whole life, and there being a you know, there's just
- 24:26Speaker 1: an element of psychology. I feel like that's very much real.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I do want to mention though, later on, when Nami
- 24:38Speaker 1: is arguing with Cracker about like, why are you going
- 24:43Speaker 1: to put yourself on the line for Sanji even if
- 24:47Speaker 1: you die in the attempt, Like basically you're going to
- 24:49Speaker 1: die for nothing. Lame? She says, you wouldn't get it,
- 24:57Speaker 1: Sangie is and I'm fully expecting her to just say
- 25:00Speaker 1: something like Sanchi's my family. And then there's like her
- 25:06Speaker 1: thought bubble and it's just her picturing him shooting all
- 25:10Speaker 1: over the place with his nose blood, you know, And
- 25:15Speaker 1: I cracked up, you guys. I as she she comes
- 25:20Speaker 1: back to earth and she says to him, well, okay,
- 25:23Speaker 1: he's a pervert. I really loved this, Like, you know,
- 25:31Speaker 1: they're just I wouldn't have been mad. Once again, I
- 25:35Speaker 1: wouldn't have been mad if she was like Sanji is
- 25:37Speaker 1: like family to me. I it would have been absolutely fine.
- 25:41Speaker 1: But I loved that that's not what we get. We
- 25:45Speaker 1: get her starting to say something unequivocally positive and then
- 25:50Speaker 1: kind of being like all right, all right, all right,
- 25:51Speaker 1: you know what. Yeah, he's he's a disaster, but he's
- 25:56Speaker 1: my disaster, damn it, you know, like he belongs to us.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And I that just caught me so off guard. It
- 26:04Speaker 1: was just so funny because like, as she's about to say,
- 26:08Speaker 1: you don't get it, sangi Is, I was thinking to myself, well,
- 26:14Speaker 1: I mean, he is your family, but also like he's
- 26:18Speaker 1: kind of your life might be a little easier without him,
- 26:22Speaker 1: Like you know, I don't know. There was a little
- 26:25Speaker 1: part of me I'm not lying, and it's look, I
- 26:28Speaker 1: don't really mean it. I don't really mean it.
- 26:32Speaker 2: But.
- 26:34Speaker 1: It didn't not occur to me, so I appreciated that
- 26:37Speaker 1: it occurred to her as well. So the whole thing,
- 26:44Speaker 1: like this arc, we also get a moment of the
- 26:49Speaker 1: island moving to participate in this war, and that's like
- 26:54Speaker 1: what puts him in a position where he can potentially
- 26:58Speaker 1: run away because he's like not stuck on just this
- 27:02Speaker 1: island anymore. And I found this so compelling because like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: I keep forgetting about the way that this nation works,
- 27:15Speaker 1: that it isn't an actual land mass. It's a traveling
- 27:23Speaker 1: headquarters essentially. I just I just forgot about it, and
- 27:30Speaker 1: the way that it moves. At one point, it's like
- 27:33Speaker 1: climbing up the side of this other land mass, and
- 27:37Speaker 1: Sanji gets thrown onto his back, and uh, the way
- 27:44Speaker 1: that he's like you cut from him being thrown on
- 27:47Speaker 1: his back, not really like necessarily understanding what's going on,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and then you get his brothers all hanging onto the
- 27:57Speaker 1: windowsill and like laughing and being excited about the whole thing.
- 28:03Speaker 1: It was just so interesting to see the way that
- 28:05Speaker 1: this works. It's not even that the land met or
- 28:08Speaker 1: that the the nation itself is built in such a
- 28:13Speaker 1: way that going to the places where war is necessarily
- 28:19Speaker 1: convenient to the people on their ship. It's actually looks
- 28:26Speaker 1: like pretty awkward and annoying, but this is just how
- 28:30Speaker 1: it works, and everybody deals with it. And I also
- 28:36Speaker 1: like there's a part where his father is he is
- 28:42Speaker 1: watching all the brothers fight and they are putting everybody
- 28:48Speaker 1: down with like basically zero effort, and he hugs them
- 28:53Speaker 1: all and says how proud he is and calls them
- 28:59Speaker 1: his little mess pieces. And I really hated how like
- 29:08Speaker 1: I don't want to even say that I was like
- 29:10Speaker 1: touched by it, because that's not it. But the guy
- 29:12Speaker 1: had been so just unrepentantly awful the whole time that
- 29:19Speaker 1: we have seen him, that that brief moment of him
- 29:22Speaker 1: giving positive feedback, it was like a It was such
- 29:28Speaker 1: a relief, And then I felt so annoyed because like,
- 29:31Speaker 1: Sanji's not part of this the point, he's basically congratulating himself,
- 29:37Speaker 1: which is what makes the whole thing so extra gross
- 29:39Speaker 1: once you know that they are experiments. And it just
- 29:44Speaker 1: really highlighted the like intrinsic need that I as a
- 29:49Speaker 1: person have for positive reinforcement and validation and all of that,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, boy, Natasha still something I've
- 29:57Speaker 1: got to work on. Let's see. Sonji says that women
- 30:04Speaker 1: being the only ones to ever treat him nicely for
- 30:06Speaker 1: most of his life being part of why he so
- 30:07Speaker 1: fixated on them, something pretty commonly accepted by the fandom.
- 30:10Speaker 1: There's also a fan theory that Sonji ended up with
- 30:13Speaker 1: not only his emotions intact, but also got his brother's
- 30:15Speaker 1: share of them, and that's part of why he's so
- 30:18Speaker 1: over the top. Oh that's an interesting idea. I sort
- 30:23Speaker 1: of like that as like a head cannon, just that
- 30:27Speaker 1: if all those emotions needed somewhere to go and for
- 30:32Speaker 1: some reason he wound up with them. I'm not even
- 30:35Speaker 1: really sure how this experiment works, if that like makes
- 30:38Speaker 1: any sense physically, but I do like it as a concept. Honestly,
- 30:44Speaker 1: there's a part of me that likes it as a
- 30:46Speaker 1: concept just because it puts the way he behaves a
- 30:48Speaker 1: little bit more out of his control. And the way
- 30:52Speaker 1: that Sonji behaves sometimes is so like ugly that if
- 30:57Speaker 1: I'm able to give him an excuse, I want to
- 31:00Speaker 1: do that, which I know is like very problematic, but
- 31:04Speaker 1: here we are normally, I'm pretty much against like plot
- 31:09Speaker 1: lines that take away people's free will or you know whatever,
- 31:13Speaker 1: because it can make things very boring. But that's one
- 31:16Speaker 1: where I'm like, no, that's fine, let's take it away
- 31:19Speaker 1: from him a little bit because I just want him
- 31:22Speaker 1: to be better than he is most of the time.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So okay, the like episode eight oh four ends with
- 31:34Speaker 1: Sanjy running away to the Barratier. It's the barrazier that
- 31:39Speaker 1: he's running too, right, because it's got that like bottle
- 31:43Speaker 1: on the front of it, and or maybe it's not
- 31:46Speaker 1: because the barrazier want like they catch him on another ship,
- 31:51Speaker 1: so it's not. It's it's just like some random ship
- 31:55Speaker 1: that he winds up working on, I guess, and he's
- 31:58Speaker 1: a stowaway. But but yeah, it's his sister like yelling
- 32:01Speaker 1: for him to run. It was so funny because I
- 32:04Speaker 1: couldn't not think about Forrest Gump here. It just felt
- 32:08Speaker 1: so much like when was this written? Had he just
- 32:11Speaker 1: watched Forrest Gump? It's uh, I don't know, there's something
- 32:16Speaker 1: funny about it, but so, like I said in the end,
- 32:19Speaker 1: like the way that he has helped is sort of
- 32:23Speaker 1: how I was thinking it would go, where his sister
- 32:26Speaker 1: helps him get out of there. But like, it's just
- 32:31Speaker 1: I expected it to be much more illicit, and it
- 32:33Speaker 1: being basically with his father's blessing in a way was
- 32:36Speaker 1: super unexpected. So oh, Saraphim says, no, he runs away
- 32:42Speaker 1: and just ends up on a random shift that zeph
- 32:44Speaker 1: Ray's right, right, right, and then he ends up adopting
- 32:46Speaker 1: Sandji and they build the Barratier together. Oh okay, I didn't.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I forgot about the fact that, like Zeph's ship was
- 32:53Speaker 1: destroyed in that storm, So I am thinking that like
- 32:58Speaker 1: Zef had the barrazier and then and take Sanjy, but
- 33:01Speaker 1: like the whole ship and the crew, I'm assuming we're
- 33:07Speaker 1: all killed as well in that storm. So yeah, they
- 33:09Speaker 1: have to start from basically scratch. And so anyway, we
- 33:15Speaker 1: come back to the present, and you know, Sonji has
- 33:18Speaker 1: just gotten the absolute shit kicked out of him by
- 33:22Speaker 1: his brother. It's a pretty awful like there's electric like
- 33:31Speaker 1: electricity is part of the attack on him, and his
- 33:38Speaker 1: sister is like, yeah, you're going to need to present
- 33:43Speaker 1: a better face to your future bride, so I'm going
- 33:45Speaker 1: to help you out. But the way that he winds up,
- 33:52Speaker 1: the feeling of he just doesn't want to be doing
- 33:58Speaker 1: this to begin with, you know, and everything being towards
- 34:02Speaker 1: the goal of, like, let's just get this show on
- 34:05Speaker 1: the road and get it so that you marry this girl.
- 34:08Speaker 1: It must be really galling, you know what I'm saying.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But yeah, so sorry, I'm just making sure that yeah, yeah, okay,
- 34:21Speaker 1: And I want to I want Look, I know I've
- 34:29Speaker 1: said it already, I'm gonna say it again. I want
- 34:37Speaker 1: to not ship him and putting. I want to feel
- 34:43Speaker 1: the urgency of getting him out of this, you know,
- 34:48Speaker 1: But I just really actually want them to get married.
- 34:54Speaker 1: So every time that he is sort of like digging
- 34:56Speaker 1: his heels in and being like, h I don't want
- 35:00Speaker 1: to do this, I can't do this. I want to
- 35:02Speaker 1: find a way out of it. As much as I
- 35:06Speaker 1: can agree and understand that is how he feels, I
- 35:13Speaker 1: can't fully get behind it because I personally am secretly
- 35:19Speaker 1: wishing for the other thing, and Loki kind of want
- 35:22Speaker 1: Sonji to just suck it up. And I know this
- 35:27Speaker 1: is super the wrong attitude to have, not only because
- 35:29Speaker 1: this is not what Sonji wants, but also because it's
- 35:32Speaker 1: what his father wants, and I hate his dad, so
- 35:36Speaker 1: I should want him to be thwarted, and like, I'm aware,
- 35:41Speaker 1: I'm aware that is how I should feel, but I
- 35:46Speaker 1: just don't. I like putting. I think Sonji would be
- 35:50Speaker 1: happy with her, and I think it would be an
- 35:52Speaker 1: interesting addition to the team. And there's just like a
- 35:56Speaker 1: lot about this that I find, you know, let me
- 36:00Speaker 1: confess to you, guys, I am aware that there is
- 36:04Speaker 1: a strong possibility. The reason that I feel this way
- 36:09Speaker 1: is simply because I love food. I love to eat,
- 36:16Speaker 1: and I love really, really good pastries. And perhaps there's
- 36:22Speaker 1: just a part of me that wants to live out
- 36:24Speaker 1: my dreams of having a pastry chef fucking on staff.
- 36:33Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. This may just be about me,
- 36:38Speaker 1: and if so, what can you do? But I wanted
- 36:41Speaker 1: to acknowledge it that maybe I am letting my gluttony
- 36:47Speaker 1: get in the way of Soangies ultimate happiness. But I
- 36:53Speaker 1: think that he would be happy in that sense. I
- 36:58Speaker 1: just do you know what I mean? If it weren't
- 37:01Speaker 1: for his family being involved in this whole thing, I
- 37:06Speaker 1: think it could actually be great for him. So I
- 37:11Speaker 1: am very much on the fence here. So let's back
- 37:14Speaker 1: up and let's talk about Cracker which I will never
- 37:17Speaker 1: used to saying that. But here we are. So my
- 37:24Speaker 1: assertion that like what if lufy ate the biscuits, well,
- 37:31Speaker 1: it didn't even enter my mind that, like, if they
- 37:35Speaker 1: were just something that you could bite into, they really
- 37:38Speaker 1: wouldn't be very good as fighters, now, would they. So
- 37:42Speaker 1: when he first goes to take a bite of them,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, right, here we go. And then he
- 37:47Speaker 1: can't even bite through it, and I was like, wait, oh, okay,
- 37:53Speaker 1: Like immediately my thought was I didn't think of that. Well,
- 37:58Speaker 1: that sucks, but I'm lad it was acknowledged as an option,
- 38:02Speaker 1: and that explanation as to why he can't bite through
- 38:05Speaker 1: them makes total sense, and I accept it, and okay,
- 38:09Speaker 1: we'll have to figure out something else. So as soon
- 38:12Speaker 1: as he can't bite through it, instantly I like I went, oh,
- 38:17Speaker 1: makes sense, and then let go of it as an idea.
- 38:21Speaker 1: But it turns out that what we're actually going to
- 38:24Speaker 1: do here is have Nami use her weather egg to
- 38:30Speaker 1: affect the texture of the biscuits and soften them up
- 38:35Speaker 1: so that he can bite through them, and then later
- 38:38Speaker 1: comes up with the idea of dunking the biscuits in
- 38:42Speaker 1: the juice. That's like all the rivers are made of
- 38:45Speaker 1: different juices so that they take on new flavors.
- 38:50Speaker 2: And we actually wind up running into a problem with
- 38:58Speaker 2: that Loofy has, like he gets to capacity pretty quickly,
- 39:03Speaker 2: and I wasn't expecting it to happen quite as soon
- 39:08Speaker 2: as it did, because, like, you know, my theory in
- 39:11Speaker 2: the last episode was, well, he fights and burns so
- 39:15Speaker 2: many calories so fast, especially using hockey, maybe it will
- 39:21Speaker 2: be proportional to each other, and he won't actually be
- 39:27Speaker 2: able to like catch up with his own energy needs,
- 39:32Speaker 2: so that he gets overstuffed because what he is doing takes.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Up so much energy to execute, you know. But instead
- 39:41Speaker 1: it's uh that he is over full, and Nami keeps
- 39:46Speaker 1: having to sort of lure him into continuing to eat
- 39:52Speaker 1: by like changing up the flavor of things, and we
- 39:56Speaker 1: get to see that this is not just an issue
- 39:59Speaker 1: for Loofy. Cracker keeps insisting, Oh, well, I can just
- 40:06Speaker 1: keep making biscuits they call them. I just want to
- 40:10Speaker 1: say cookies, guys, because like biscuits, this is not the
- 40:16Speaker 1: vernacular in the United States. These are cookies. Biscuits is
- 40:22Speaker 1: the British word for cookies, and nobody here has a
- 40:25Speaker 1: British accent, and so in my opinion it's cookies and
- 40:31Speaker 1: probably the like mouthflaps when you were doing the dub.
- 40:37Speaker 1: There's two mouthflaps for the word for cookies in Japanese,
- 40:40Speaker 1: and so they just had to make the word two
- 40:43Speaker 1: syllables or I guess cookies is two syllables though, so
- 40:48Speaker 1: that doesn't make sense. I don't know, but I just
- 40:51Speaker 1: prefer saying cookies because it seems to me much more
- 40:54Speaker 1: what they are. But yeah, so they uh that the
- 41:01Speaker 1: dude Cracker just is pretending that he can keep it
- 41:06Speaker 1: up and that it's no problem, but Loofy is detecting
- 41:11Speaker 1: major fatigue in this guy and just keeps sort of
- 41:16Speaker 1: calling his bluff and being like, yeah, no, actually, I
- 41:19Speaker 1: think this is taking a toll on you having to
- 41:22Speaker 1: keep making more and more and more of these, And
- 41:25Speaker 1: that had been my question, like how much can this
- 41:27Speaker 1: dude keep it up. Also, we kept a kind of
- 41:32Speaker 1: a confrontation between the Homies and Cracker as well, where
- 41:38Speaker 1: Cracker's like, uh, guys, you know you're gonna have the
- 41:43Speaker 1: answer to Big Mom for this later. She is not
- 41:46Speaker 1: gonna be happy with you. And they make the very
- 41:52Speaker 1: very lame like well, we're basically obeying her power. And
- 41:57Speaker 1: I love that he's not buying it either. He just
- 42:00Speaker 1: immediately is like, yeah, okay, you can keep your excuses
- 42:06Speaker 1: for her. There's just a very strong like you just
- 42:11Speaker 1: pray that she buys that because I'm not buying it.
- 42:16Speaker 1: That put that explanation on sale and see if maybe
- 42:19Speaker 1: then she'll buy it. But I don't think she will.
- 42:22Speaker 1: It's on the clearance rack, nobody's touching it. So and
- 42:29Speaker 1: and the way that like Nami keeps using these guys,
- 42:35Speaker 1: I haven't really mentioned that, Uh, what's the name of
- 42:39Speaker 1: the tree, mister Baum something like that. He's German. And
- 42:46Speaker 1: I know that I mentioned a couple of episodes ago
- 42:49Speaker 1: about all of the tree puns, but I don't think
- 42:51Speaker 1: I mentioned it last episode. And the unfortunate thing with
- 42:57Speaker 1: the way these puns work when Brooke makes these like
- 43:03Speaker 1: very predictable puns or just to like, oh, you know,
- 43:07Speaker 1: I can't believe my eyes, not that I have eyes.
- 43:11Speaker 1: The way that the joke is acknowledged is a whole
- 43:15Speaker 1: other sentence, And so there is an opportunity for the
- 43:19Speaker 1: delivery there to be like really extra funny, and it
- 43:24Speaker 1: also draws your attention to that joke. The tree puns
- 43:28Speaker 1: are really good, and it's a little bit of a
- 43:31Speaker 1: shame that they get lost because he will just be
- 43:37Speaker 1: like it'll just be in the middle of a sentence
- 43:39Speaker 1: where he'll say something like, uh, he doesn't say this,
- 43:45Speaker 1: but let's say he would say something was beautiful. He
- 43:48Speaker 1: would say it's very beautreyful, you know what I mean.
- 43:52Speaker 1: And it's a really quick and then we're like off
- 43:56Speaker 1: it immediately onto another pun, and it's just sort of
- 44:00Speaker 1: ropped into the sentences. And I have been enjoying them,
- 44:04Speaker 1: and there's like been more than one time where I
- 44:06Speaker 1: almost missed it, and I was just thinking about how
- 44:10Speaker 1: like the weirdness of him having these tree puns and
- 44:16Speaker 1: him being German, so he keeps calling her like Frauline
- 44:20Speaker 1: and saying nine, and you know, there's just occasional like
- 44:25Speaker 1: German words thrown into his dialogue and stuff. And he's
- 44:30Speaker 1: got a curly mustache that I really think of as
- 44:37Speaker 1: stereotypically like a cartoon French sort of thing. This is
- 44:41Speaker 1: not something that I consider German, and I keep forgetting
- 44:47Speaker 1: that that's like his deal until I hear his accent
- 44:51Speaker 1: or I hear the like German words dropped into the dialogue,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and then I'm suddenly like, oh, yeah, we made the
- 44:57Speaker 1: tree German. Why did we do that? Like with the Eggman,
- 45:03Speaker 1: it makes more sense for me because that's a person,
- 45:07Speaker 1: and I know that the theory here is that the
- 45:09Speaker 1: tree used to be a person probably, So that's my
- 45:14Speaker 1: assumption is that he's the part of the soul of
- 45:19Speaker 1: an actual German person that has been like put into
- 45:22Speaker 1: this tree. But it feels really like our arbitrary and strange,
- 45:29Speaker 1: and I just wanted to acknowledge that because like he's
- 45:31Speaker 1: the one that Nami is mostly interacting with. He's sort
- 45:35Speaker 1: of the leader of the homies by virtue I guess,
- 45:38Speaker 1: of like being the oldest one out there. So he
- 45:45Speaker 1: the the whole thing with the whole thing with his
- 45:51Speaker 1: character is just it's so it's so funny because it
- 45:55Speaker 1: feels so random and odd, and for the record, I'm
- 46:00Speaker 1: fine with it. I enjoy it, but I do think
- 46:03Speaker 1: that it's like there's something I would love to know
- 46:08Speaker 1: the reason for the decision here. Sorry, I'm at the
- 46:14Speaker 1: part here where Cracker is saying keep eating till you pop,
- 46:19Speaker 1: I don't care, and he is sweating his balls off
- 46:23Speaker 1: bro looks like he is about to drop himself, and
- 46:27Speaker 1: of course the way that the animation works is the
- 46:31Speaker 1: more Loofy eats, the bigger and fatter he gets, and
- 46:35Speaker 1: the rounder he gets, and he winds up with all
- 46:37Speaker 1: of these weird like neck rolls. It's not even quite
- 46:44Speaker 1: adequate to call them double chins, because it's like they're
- 46:49Speaker 1: not even on his chin. It's like his shoulders piled
- 46:53Speaker 1: up and are up on his throat, if that makes sense.
- 47:01Speaker 1: But let's see, I'm trying to find the spot. Oh yeah, uh,
- 47:09Speaker 1: that's not fair, mind, general, this Frau line has Mama's
- 47:13Speaker 1: viver card.
- 47:14Speaker 2: That's it.
- 47:14Speaker 1: She's using its power to make us bow down to her,
- 47:18Speaker 1: so technically it's Mama's power we are obeying, and all
- 47:23Speaker 1: of the homies just not along with him very hopefully.
- 47:26Speaker 1: But Cracker is not interested at all, and he starts
- 47:32Speaker 1: yelling at them just basically like, you guys are the
- 47:37Speaker 1: reason that my soldiers are all being eaten, and Nami
- 47:41Speaker 1: is coming back at him with like, would you stop
- 47:43Speaker 1: fucking whining? It's pathetic. You do what you do. I
- 47:50Speaker 1: do what I do. I figured out your weakness. This
- 47:53Speaker 1: is the way fights go dude, And honestly it was great.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I applauded her very much much for this because there
- 48:01Speaker 1: is a sense of just like whe whe where, you know,
- 48:04Speaker 1: just cry about it a little bit more. I was
- 48:07Speaker 1: so over it. And the idea that like he has
- 48:13Speaker 1: nobody has thought to eat his soldiers makes total sense
- 48:18Speaker 1: because you just most people aren't gonna think about doing
- 48:23Speaker 1: it that way. And then when you try and bite
- 48:25Speaker 1: them and they're too hard to bite through, most people
- 48:30Speaker 1: don't have a ready and immediate way to soak all
- 48:36Speaker 1: of those cookies and liquid to soften them up. The
- 48:38Speaker 1: only thing that I could imagine is that maybe he
- 48:41Speaker 1: has encountered that this is like a difficulty if he
- 48:43Speaker 1: has ever had to fight a battle when it was raining,
- 48:47Speaker 1: like just naturally raining. But my guess is that he
- 48:51Speaker 1: probably just doesn't battle in the rain, that he finds
- 48:55Speaker 1: a way around it. You know, probably the people on
- 48:58Speaker 1: his own side are aware of that being a weakness
- 49:00Speaker 1: and so they organize things that that doesn't happen. But
- 49:05Speaker 1: I really like it as an idea, Like I just
- 49:08Speaker 1: think that the whole concept of Loofy eating them it
- 49:14Speaker 1: could have been a little bit too easy, But putting.
- 49:18Speaker 1: The putting like two obstacles in there works really well.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Having it be he can only eat so much and
- 49:27Speaker 1: he starts to kind of, you know, fall off a
- 49:29Speaker 1: little bit. And the fact that they have to be
- 49:33Speaker 1: altered in order for him to eat them. I think
- 49:37Speaker 1: that's perfect. I really really like that. Otherwise it could
- 49:40Speaker 1: have been a bit oversimplified and maybe even a little
- 49:44Speaker 1: bit boring. And also this gives Nami something to do.
- 49:50Speaker 1: And you know, I talked Shit a lot about it,
- 49:57Speaker 1: feeling like we have to do that with Nami a lot.
- 49:59Speaker 1: We have to fin find things for her to do
- 50:01Speaker 1: because what she can do. Like the thing about Nanny
- 50:06Speaker 1: is that her power is actually cool. I say, her power,
- 50:09Speaker 1: it's not really. That's kind of part of what bothers
- 50:12Speaker 1: me is that it's like an object that she has
- 50:14Speaker 1: that if that's taken away then it seems like she's
- 50:17Speaker 1: just screwed. But setting that aside, I actually think that
- 50:26Speaker 1: controlling weather and stuff is really really powerful and rad.
- 50:33Speaker 1: It's just it feels like an afterthought a lot of
- 50:41Speaker 1: the time. The way that it's played in the story,
- 50:45Speaker 1: it just feels like, I don't know, like she's just
- 50:49Speaker 1: not that crucial a lot, and so it it just
- 50:55Speaker 1: sort of makes it less fun sometimes. But I think
- 50:58Speaker 1: here she is crucial, and it's in a way that
- 51:02Speaker 1: like actually directly relates to what it is Lufy is doing.
- 51:06Speaker 1: So it's not like she's out here using her weather
- 51:09Speaker 1: powers on a separate villain or what's the word I want,
- 51:14Speaker 1: like henchman, and then Lufy is dealing with this guy
- 51:16Speaker 1: and they're totally separate. She is the perfect sidekick forgive
- 51:24Speaker 1: me to Loofy here because she is making what he
- 51:27Speaker 1: is doing possible, and this is ideal. I really like
- 51:32Speaker 1: that as the combo with the powers is that one
- 51:35Speaker 1: makes the other able to do the thing. Now we
- 51:39Speaker 1: just have to figure out exactly who is going to
- 51:42Speaker 1: break first. Is Lufy going to be so full that
- 51:50Speaker 1: he can't eat anymore that he pops, or like, I
- 51:54Speaker 1: don't think that he's used hockey in this fight. Is
- 51:58Speaker 1: it possible that if he does, that will solve the problem,
- 52:03Speaker 1: because I would love that. This is just such a
- 52:05Speaker 1: basic video game logic thing, right In a lot of games,
- 52:10Speaker 1: you have so much energy and then when you run
- 52:12Speaker 1: through it, you've got to stop and eat something or
- 52:15Speaker 1: drink a potion or whatever, and and so if he
- 52:20Speaker 1: hasn't used hockey in this yet, maybe that's the solution.
- 52:29Speaker 1: I like the fact that it's taking some energy on
- 52:33Speaker 1: Cracker's part to make all of these biscuit men. And
- 52:38Speaker 1: I really think it seems like this has never been
- 52:42Speaker 1: an issue for him before because he has never needed
- 52:44Speaker 1: to make so many. So it's not even necessarily that
- 52:49Speaker 1: he is that he has a hard limit. It is
- 52:54Speaker 1: potentially that he just doesn't have practice and hasn't built
- 52:57Speaker 1: up his endurance, you know what I mean. I mean,
- 53:00Speaker 1: because he has never had to worry about it before.
- 53:04Speaker 1: And I kind of like that idea as well, that
- 53:06Speaker 1: like maybe if he had engaged with other people who
- 53:12Speaker 1: had handled it this way, he would have been okay
- 53:15Speaker 1: at this point, you know, it would be a means
- 53:19Speaker 1: of sort of prepping for for overproduction. But he's just
- 53:25Speaker 1: not in shape in that respect. Does that make sense?
- 53:30Speaker 1: So anyway, Yeah, I will say I just gotta say this,
- 53:33Speaker 1: like I feel like I already said it when he
- 53:35Speaker 1: was introduced, but I'm gonna say it now. His design
- 53:42Speaker 1: is so dumb. He's these three like weird things sticking
- 53:48Speaker 1: off his head that they're not even they're almost cigar shaped,
- 53:52Speaker 1: but like not really there's something about this hairstyle that
- 53:59Speaker 1: I hate. And also the fact that like sometimes one
- 54:04Speaker 1: of them is lit, sometimes two of them are lit,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and the way that they have. I don't know what's
- 54:09Speaker 1: happening here. I don't know if there's gonna be some
- 54:11Speaker 1: kind of reveal that explains what's going on there. But
- 54:14Speaker 1: I personally just every time the camera turns to him,
- 54:18Speaker 1: I'm just like, uh, I don't like looking at him.
- 54:20Speaker 1: I think he is really really unattractive in a way
- 54:24Speaker 1: that like other characters who have had designs that I
- 54:28Speaker 1: would call like, in certain ways objectively worse, I have
- 54:33Speaker 1: preferred looking at them over him, just because the whole
- 54:38Speaker 1: like effect together of all of his elements is just unappealing.
- 54:45Speaker 1: So anyway, I just had to mention that, Oh, Florien
- 54:49Speaker 1: says Baum equals tree in German. I did know that
- 54:52Speaker 1: one from O Tannenbaum. He also has the same name
- 54:55Speaker 1: in Japanese it is tree Son Tree Son. That was
- 54:59Speaker 1: one of yeah, we can't do that because it's tree Sun.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Thank you for that. Florian Saraphim says they are sparklers
- 55:07Speaker 1: slash firecrackers, Okay, I mean the shape of them doesn't
- 55:12Speaker 1: even look like firecrackers. But I mean, the firecrackers that
- 55:17Speaker 1: I know of are basically like you know, the ones
- 55:21Speaker 1: that you just stick in the ground and light the
- 55:22Speaker 1: bottom of that you can buy at like stalls here
- 55:27Speaker 1: in Texas, so those are very symmetrical. I guess, I
- 55:33Speaker 1: guess these are. The look of them just doesn't say
- 55:37Speaker 1: firecrackers to me, is all I'm saying. It's just a weird.
- 55:42Speaker 1: And there's something about the way that they like kind
- 55:43Speaker 1: of dangle off his head as well. It doesn't even
- 55:46Speaker 1: really look like they are his hair, because in this universe,
- 55:50Speaker 1: people's hair can like stick up and hold shapes that
- 55:54Speaker 1: are not normal for hair unless you've got six cans
- 55:57Speaker 1: of hairspraying there and hiss just sort of flop. And
- 56:00Speaker 1: I think that's part of what I don't like about
- 56:02Speaker 1: the look as well. It's just that there's something like
- 56:04Speaker 1: limp about it, which you know, I'm sure Freid would
- 56:08Speaker 1: have a lot to say about. But uh, all right, well,
- 56:12Speaker 1: I think that I am about done covering this section.
- 56:16Speaker 1: I'm just trying to make sure that I didn't forget
- 56:18Speaker 1: anything with his uh oh, I almost forgot too about
- 56:22Speaker 1: the brothers after they like, beat that girl up. When
- 56:30Speaker 1: Sanjie is like kind of on the floor and they
- 56:35Speaker 1: have just kicked the shit out of him, they all
- 56:38Speaker 1: basically are like ready to demean her even further and
- 56:43Speaker 1: are like, Oh, I didn't know that you liked her.
- 56:46Speaker 1: If I'd known that, maybe I wouldn't have messed her
- 56:48Speaker 1: face up. And if you want, I could have made
- 56:53Speaker 1: her your personal attendant. And that was like part of
- 56:59Speaker 1: the thing that I found really upsetting as well is
- 57:04Speaker 1: just the oh, yeah, well, we could have made it
- 57:08Speaker 1: so that you could sexually assault her if you had
- 57:11Speaker 1: just asked. And the idea that he just wants to
- 57:16Speaker 1: like not see a woman get beaten up for no
- 57:18Speaker 1: reason is alien to them, and it just makes me
- 57:22Speaker 1: wonder how many women they have subjected to this sort
- 57:25Speaker 1: of treatment, because I have to imagine this is what
- 57:29Speaker 1: they are like, and that's awful. So yikes, did not
- 57:35Speaker 1: love that. But Sarah Phitmos says, not disagreeing on him
- 57:41Speaker 1: just being very not great on a look front. That
- 57:44Speaker 1: is so like, I totally get what you're saying and
- 57:48Speaker 1: phrasing it that way, but it sounds like the most
- 57:51Speaker 1: roundabout way of being like he ugly he's just very
- 57:56Speaker 1: not great on a look front. I kind of wanna,
- 58:05Speaker 1: I kind of want to take that.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Care of them.
- 58:10Speaker 1: All right, guys, I'm gonna wrap up. Thank you guys
- 58:12Speaker 1: again so much for hanging out with me. I appreciate
- 58:14Speaker 1: you all, And until next time to thelue. Motherfuckers. That
- 58:49Speaker 1: was an Unspoiled Network podcast
