Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You know, I just can briefly say this I'm so, my heart has been broken.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I guess in my free time I've seen these videos of pastors that I've admired, people I've admired, kind of go down, leave it at that.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So I want to be real for a moment and talk to you about the obedience of faith.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And you're like, oh, that's interesting, teresa.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Well, let's be real just for a moment.
- 0:29Speaker 1: When you get up in the morning, I don't think.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Probably, if you're like me, obedience isn't on your mind.
- 0:35Speaker 1: For me it's like let me get a cup of coffee For you.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It might be all the stuff you got to do, a list, or you may have a in your mind.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Okay, I just, I gotta find this quiet time, but I don't know where it is, because the chaos is hitting me.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I feel you because, honestly, that word obedience can feel a little heavy, maybe even outdated.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And then we add faith into the mix.
- 1:01Speaker 1: The obedience of faith, that's what got just stuck on me last week and it can sound more like a theology exam than something practical or even desirable.
- 1:15Speaker 1: But stick with me, because what if we've been seeing it all wrong?
- 1:21Speaker 1: For me, obedience of faith right now means in the recovery from two cancer surgeries means to be grateful that I'm cancer free, but to take it easy.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So many times my kids say, mom, don't lift that.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I'm always in the process of moving in with my kids.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So lots of pain, lots of frustration I'm not being able to lift things like I used to but lots of healing as I look forward to the day of resuming my radio job and the Stuck no More Academy.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But let's be real.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I know I have to get well Kind of living in a cramped apartment with the kids, kind of walking away from a comfortable life.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But I'm discovering a truth.
- 2:08Speaker 1: God is calling me, might be calling you.
- 2:13Speaker 1: God is calling me to obedience, to be still with him and then add obedience of faith.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So, as I continue to have to stay still, I ask what if obedience is about getting it all right?
- 2:28Speaker 1: What if it's learning to lean into love, about responding to the one who already called you, chosen, seen and deeply loved?
- 2:40Speaker 1: Read Ephesians 1 and 2 and you'll see that.
- 2:45Speaker 1: But today, in this episode, I want to invite you to a new way of seeing obedience not as a burden but as a bridge, a sacred bridge, between who you are now and who God is calling you to become.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Let's start with this first idea.
- 3:00Speaker 1: With this first idea Obedience as response to love, not duty.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So when we start from a place of striving, always measuring up did I pray enough?
- 3:11Speaker 1: Did I read the word enough?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Was I good enough?
- 3:14Speaker 1: But when we live from grace, obedience comes as an overflow.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It's not about performing overflow.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's not about performing.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's about proximity.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It's about drawing near to the Father and saying it's what I'm learning.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yes, Lord, not because I have to, because I want to.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Romans 1, verse 5 says it like this.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That means our obedience isn't for approval, it's for his namesake.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It's a love song, a surrender dance, a declaration that says God, I trust you, even when I don't understand the pain, being on the second surgery table, not happy because I had to go I just had a double mastectomy and they're having troubles with the hematoma and it's just like I was upset before the surgery.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But it's like God, I trust you, even when I don't understand the pain and the pain after the surgery, the debilitating pain that kept me from doing the things I love to do.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But God did tell me to speak.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So I'm going to tell you what he put on my heart the obedience of faith.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So think about it.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Obedience, my friend, isn't about doing more, it's about believing deeper.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I believe this obedience of faith can start as simple as a yes to God.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I have a dear friend who said yes to God and that means walking away from a great ministry, a great business she was doing well, but she heard that cough.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And because she said yes, the obedience of her faith is bringing about the fruit of gathering Christian businesswomen for community, for training, for love, for care, for retreats.
- 5:15Speaker 1: One yes and she's impacted lives.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think it's for you too.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It was a yes that unlocks legacy.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Your yes may seem small, but in the hands of God it is a seed of legacy.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So let's be obedient to the love song of the one who first said yes to God.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who, for the joys that before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of God.
- 5:50Speaker 1: There's joy in the midst of the cross, despising shame.
- 5:54Speaker 1: There's joy because the obedience of Jesus' faith knew we would get to experience that joy and be one with our Father as we're one with Jesus.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Obedience, another point.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Obedience unlocks identity and inheritance.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Hang on with me on this one.
- 6:16Speaker 1: When we obey in faith, we step into alignment with heaven's blueprint for our lives.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So every act of obedience bursts identity, reminding us that we are sons and daughters of God, not orphans, sons and daughters Not trying to earn favor.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It's in saying yes to God's word, even when it feels uncomfortable, that we grow into who we always were meant to be Romans 8, 14-17,.
- 6:47Speaker 1: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God and since we are His children, we are heirs.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Another point obedience of faith requires trust in the process.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Obedience of faith requires trust in the process.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Whenever you hear the word process, oftentimes it's the process in regards to your relationship with Jesus.
- 7:13Speaker 1: True obedience doesn't always make sense in the moment.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It often comes with tension, silence, restriction, even like it's a closed door.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But there's something more to that Like.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Let me just give you an example Moving with my kids, saying yes to God despite the cramped places, the stuff, the moving, but faithful obedience.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I realize I can trust the author of the process over the logic of the moment.
- 7:46Speaker 1: This is where legacy is formed, not in the spotlight but in the unseen.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeses.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I said yes to live with my kids for reasons Restoration was one of them.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I used to be denied even getting to hang out with them.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So we're in the process of staying here in the midst of Atlanta with all the sirens and eventually moving in four months.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But I find something out that nothing tastes better the next day than obedience to God.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I love waking up, even though I'm taking up the living room.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I love waking up and hearing the sounds of taking up the living room.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I love waking up and hearing the sounds of my kids go out the door for work.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I love being able to pick William up, billy up, at 2 pm.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I love being able to have time in the morning just to sit still even longer, drink my coffee and listen.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And this is what he talked about to me.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Obedience of faith.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Finally, obedience of faith is the pathway to kingdom influence.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Remember I was talking about?
- 8:52Speaker 1: I was so disappointed in major Christian influencers, but I realized I can learn, because every obedience step we take, whether in marriage, ministry or marketplace, is a seed sown for generational impact.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Obedience of faith is how kingdom legacy is built.
- 9:13Speaker 1: When we say yes to God, we create ripples that touch lives far beyond us.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Create ripples that touch lives far beyond us.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Obedience of faith isn't about being perfect friend.
- 9:29Speaker 1: It's about being present.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Present with your family, present with your kids, present with the person who's in front of you.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Being present in the yes, present in the unknown, presence in the fire, knowing that the fourth man still walks in it, that means a lot to me.
- 9:53Speaker 1: The fire of breast cancer, the fire of well, how bad is it?
- 10:01Speaker 1: The fire of going through surgery and praise God no, no, no, no cancer.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But the fire of the hematoma that took me down right here split open.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That's why I had to have a second surgery, and I think the second surgery was more painful than the first surgery.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I'm still recovering, it's okay, we're here.
- 10:22Speaker 1: So, obedience of faith, it's not about being perfect, it's being present, present in the unknown.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And listen, yeah, you go through the fire.
- 10:36Speaker 1: The fourth man's there, the Holy Spirit's there.
- 10:40Speaker 1: James 1.22 says do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourself, do what it says.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Some final thoughts on obedience of faith.
- 10:50Speaker 1: This isn't about forced steps.
- 10:53Speaker 1: This isn't about forced steps, forced pushing steps.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's not about hollow religion.
- 10:59Speaker 1: No, this is about the kind of faith that bends your heart in surrender, the kind that says I don't see it all, but I trust you, god.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I think of that little reel, that little boy, and the waves are coming at him and you hear him say I trust you, god, I trust you.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You may have some waves coming at you.
- 11:22Speaker 1: It may be a tsunami of troubles, maybe in your marriage, maybe in relationships, maybe in your business, maybe in just feeling stuck.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But can you face it and, out of the obedience of your faith, can you say I trust you, god.
- 11:37Speaker 1: By faith, abraham obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That's the obedience of faith that says I trust you, I can take a trembling step.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I can take a trembling step, trembling and shaking, because grace has already paved the way.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I can shake on the rock, the rock.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Jesus never shakes.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Obedience of faith.
- 12:05Speaker 1: It doesn't always come with a map and sometimes it comes with just a whisper.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You want a map, but God's whispering, do you trust me?
- 12:17Speaker 1: You get in the Word and you're like okay, I trust you.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Obedience and faith, I'm there, I'm in the game, I want to be in the game.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Nothing tastes better the next morning than obedience to you, god, not a striving Obedience.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Real obedience comes when faith has softened the ground.
- 12:38Speaker 1: It isn't barked out from a pulpit of fear, terrorist preachers.
- 12:44Speaker 1: It's whispered from a heart that's been wrecked by grace.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Faith obeys because it believes the Father is good, even when the pain is unclear.
- 12:59Speaker 1: But real faith, it moves.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It builds arcs and dry places.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It walks on water with shaking knees.
- 13:09Speaker 1: It says even if he doesn't, I'll still still bow and trust.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Faith isn't just a feeling, it's a fire, and obedience is the smoke that lets the world know you're alive.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Faith is alive.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Let me read that again Obedience is the smoke that lets the world know it's alive.
- 13:33Speaker 1: That lets the world know it's alive.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So obedience of faith for you.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I really pray that your voice would be one that prophesies hope.
- 13:41Speaker 1: One obedient word at a time.
- 13:44Speaker 1: You're being refined in grace, not for performance but for a purpose.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Let this be your declaration.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I say yes, not because I must, but because I trust.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Obedience of faith, unlocking legacy, exploring the simple steps of how obedience can open doors for your generation and impact and be a real kingdom influence.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It's not perfect, but someone who listens to the call of God on their life, Just simple steps I'm learning to take, just something God birthed on me, so I just wanted to share with you, as God said.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Okay, you may not be on the radio, you may not be activating the Stuck no More Academy, but he said very clearly you can sit in your blue chair.
- 14:37Speaker 1: That's where I have time with Jesus.
- 14:39Speaker 1: You can sit in that blue chair, maybe to not talk into the best of Mike, but you can declare what I'm teaching you.
- 14:46Speaker 1: And I said yes because if it was later on, maybe the fire is not as hot and the message isn't as dear, but it's like it's very fresh.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So it's an honor to be able to spill out what God's talking to me Obedience of faith, walk in it, trust in it.
- 15:07Speaker 1: God's got your greatest good always in his mind.
- 15:12Speaker 1: All right, I'll talk to you in the next episode.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Thank you for listening to the Stuck no More podcast.
