- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hello, welcome to the Impact Ready podcast.
- 0:24Thank you guys for listening and for being here.
- 0:26This episode is going to be about removing resistance and
- 0:29friction so that you can have a bigger, better impact in your
- 0:33life. Because that's really what the
- 0:34show is all about, is about really learning how to have the
- 0:38impact that we want to be able to live a life of freedom and
- 0:41purpose, but also just enjoy our lives and feel some peace.
- 0:46And know that we're building quality connections with people
- 0:48and we have great relationships and we're excelling in our work
- 0:50and we're feeling joyful and purposeful in our career.
- 0:54It's really about all of that. All of that is our impact.
- 0:57It's what we put out in the world.
- 0:58It's the the energy that we broadcast out into the spaces
- 1:01that we walk into. And I think the search and the
- 1:05quest to have bigger and better impact is, is really what this
- 1:09is all about. And so we have to look at the
- 1:12reasons why people struggle with having impact.
- 1:16And one of the biggest reasons that we experience struggle and
- 1:19suffering is because we resist the reality that is in front of
- 1:24us. We do we resist the reality
- 1:27that's in front of us. We don't like to admit that
- 1:28something is true or here. And so we sugarcoat things, or
- 1:33we ignore it. We put our head in the sand, or
- 1:35we tell a story about that reality that isn't necessarily
- 1:39true, maybe a little skewed. We procrastinate on things.
- 1:44We let things linger way longer than we should.
- 1:47Or we beat ourselves up and we live in shame and guilt around
- 1:51something that happened in the past.
- 1:52Or we just straight up deny the reality that is in front of us.
- 1:56And all of these ways of behaving are really for one
- 1:59purpose, and that is to not have to deal with what is here now.
- 2:06There are a lot of reasons we don't deal with what is here
- 2:09now. A lot of it comes down to things
- 2:11like fear. Fear of what might happen if we
- 2:15do. Fear of conflict, which is
- 2:18really about the fear of not being loved or seen as worthy.
- 2:21Fear of our safety and our security being put at risk.
- 2:25Fear of not being liked or perceived as the bad guy.
- 2:30So a lot of it has to do with fear.
- 2:32It also has to do with discomfort.
- 2:34Discomfort is another huge reason we don't deal with our
- 2:38reality. It's uncomfortable, we can admit
- 2:40that. And comfort is perceived as
- 2:43safety when it comes to our nervous system and also our ego.
- 2:47So it makes sense why we would be resisting reality, why we're
- 2:52not dealing with what is here now.
- 2:55But the repercussions are so numerous when we don't deal with
- 2:58the reality at hand. And I know that you felt this in
- 3:01your life in the most simple of terms, not dealing with our
- 3:05realities. It allows what I would refer to
- 3:07as misalignment to continue to happen.
- 3:10And misalignment can look and feel like a lot of different
- 3:13ways. It can look like poor
- 3:14communication between yourself and colleagues or yourself and
- 3:18your spouse. It can look like resentment or
- 3:21toxic energy or low frequency behavior, like, you know,
- 3:25bitching and complaining and being judgmental or being
- 3:27hypercritical. It could look like being in
- 3:30problem energy all the time. Everything's a problem.
- 3:32It's always about the things that are not going right in your
- 3:35life or not going right in the job or the business or that with
- 3:39the deadlines. It can look like slow progress
- 3:43and slow growth. It can create more internal
- 3:47issues in a home or workplace. It can just be a major roadblock
- 3:51to progress and a huge sabotage to what you're trying to create
- 3:55in your life. So while it might be
- 3:57uncomfortable to look at the reality at hand and see what is
- 4:01here now, we can also see that it's actually pretty crucial if
- 4:05you want to get to a different place in your life.
- 4:08It's crucial to having the impact that you want and to
- 4:10being the creator, not just the reactor to your circumstances at
- 4:15hand. Now here are some examples of
- 4:18the realities that we might not like to look at so that you can
- 4:21get a scope for how this could be showing up in your own life.
- 4:25It might look like this. The reality is that my spouse
- 4:27and I are not connecting in our marriage.
- 4:30That happens all the time. We have to look at that reality.
- 4:33The reality is this person in this job is overpaid for the
- 4:37work that they're doing. The reality is there is hurt
- 4:40that has happened on both sides of this relationship.
- 4:44The reality is this person is not pulling their weight for the
- 4:46position they're in. The reality is I keep getting
- 4:50looked over for promotions time and time again.
- 4:53The reality is this person has passed away and is not on this
- 4:57earth anymore. The reality is they found breast
- 5:00cancer in my body and there will be treatment.
- 5:03The reality is my kids are growing up and I need to have
- 5:05conversations or boundaries or connections with them.
- 5:08The reality is we don't have the finances to live this lifestyle.
- 5:12We have to adjust. The reality is I'm not sticking
- 5:15to my exercise and nutrition plan.
- 5:18The reality is I want 10 out of 10 energy, but I'm putting in
- 5:21four out of 10 effort. The reality is I'm the only
- 5:25person in my own way of getting what I want and team.
- 5:29The list can go on and on. These are just a couple of
- 5:32examples of real time realities that I've coached with clients
- 5:36and real time realities that I've experienced in my own life.
- 5:39They're stark truths at the heart of it.
- 5:42They are just the stark truths that we need to accept and look
- 5:46at with an honest lens so that we can see them as facts.
- 5:51Now let's be clear about a distinction here.
- 5:53When we look at the reality in front of us and accept it for
- 5:56what it is, it doesn't mean that it stops there.
- 5:58What we had to acknowledge is that the reality we face, it is
- 6:02just data. It is just the facts.
- 6:05And if you can look at the reality in front of you as being
- 6:09neutral, just neutral, and understand that it's we as
- 6:13humans, we are the ones that attach meaning to those
- 6:17circumstances, that really helps us understand the distinction
- 6:21between circumstances and perspective.
- 6:24For example, if the reality is my spouse and I aren't
- 6:27connecting in our marriage, that's just the data, that's the
- 6:30facts. We could look at that as a
- 6:31neutral situation and understand that the perspectives around
- 6:35that circumstance. That data could be all over the
- 6:38board. It could be the perspective is I
- 6:40haven't been showing up, or they haven't been holding up their
- 6:43end of the agreement, or we don't communicate well.
- 6:46All of these perspectives are the feelings and thoughts that
- 6:49we attach to these circumstances.
- 6:52And we have to understand this distinction, the distinction
- 6:54between the reality we face and our perspective that we attach
- 7:00to it, the meaning we attach to it.
- 7:03Our perspective is something that we can control and really
- 7:07have control over. We might not have a lot of
- 7:10control over the reality or the circumstances, and that's OK,
- 7:14but we do have control over our perspective and the story that
- 7:17we tell about it. That's the real distinction.
- 7:21But the key here and the take away for this episode is that
- 7:24when you accept the reality that is in front of you, it gives you
- 7:28freedom because what it does is it gives you instant access to
- 7:33solutions. When you accept a reality for
- 7:36what it is and you look at it honestly, you take away all the
- 7:40sugar coating and the storytelling and the avoidance
- 7:44and the denial, and you truly see the reality for what it is
- 7:48now you have a great jumping off point to get to solutions.
- 7:51And this is very similar to Radical Ownership Team.
- 7:54I know you've heard me talk about radical ownership so many
- 7:56times. It's taking responsibility for
- 7:59what is here now in your sphere, whether you ask for it or not,
- 8:03and whether it's your fault or not.
- 8:05If it is here now, we have to accept it when you can accept
- 8:09the reality for what it is, no matter what it is.
- 8:12Whether it's a person in your business who's not pulling their
- 8:14weight in their role and things are slipping through the cracks,
- 8:18or that somebody in your life has a drinking problem, or a
- 8:22drug problem, or you haven't been sticking to your goals when
- 8:25it comes to your health habits, or you haven't been showing up
- 8:28in your marriage. At least now you have an honest
- 8:31place to start finding solutions.
- 8:33Instead of talking yourself into reasons why this person may or
- 8:37may not be pulling their weight, or this person may or may not be
- 8:40valuable in your business, or all the reasons that you're
- 8:42frustrated with this person, just cut all that crap out for
- 8:47just a second. Take your emotions and your
- 8:49feelings out of it for a second and take an honest look at what
- 8:52the reality is. Being able to practice this
- 8:56skill is a huge sign of maturity and of extreme leadership, and
- 9:00it will absolutely amplify your impact in your life and in your
- 9:04community. It will also help you ditch some
- 9:07of the mental gymnastics that we all go through that we all do
- 9:11when we are in resistance to what is here now and getting
- 9:15stuck in the struggle and the suffering as a result of that
- 9:17resistance. So I hope this episode helped
- 9:21you. My challenge to you this week is
- 9:24to do a mental audit of where you might be resisting certain
- 9:27realities in your life. I'll give you a hint.
- 9:30It's usually the places that you feel friction or heaviness or
- 9:35the things that you find yourself complaining about when
- 9:37you come home after a long day. I know we all get caught up in
- 9:40the storytelling and the justification of things.
- 9:43We all get caught up in the resistance to reality.
- 9:46But we all have the ability to practice acceptance and then we
- 9:51get better access to the solutions and the freedom that
- 9:54we all desire so much in our life.
- 9:57So thank you for listening today.
- 9:59I hope you have an awesome week. I hope you find freedom and let
- 10:03go of some of that resistance in your life.
