- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Benn and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with i R Radio. It's another episode of the Almost
- 0:06Speaker 1: Famous podcast. And hey, I want to start this thing
- 0:08Speaker 1: out by saying and reminding everybody that once again Ashley,
- 0:11Speaker 1: can Eddie and Jared are opening up a coffee shop. Uh.
- 0:14Speaker 1: And it's gonna be a bar coffee shop. It's gonna
- 0:15Speaker 1: be awesome. They're using Generous coffee. Last night, Ashley, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: this is why I wanted to mention it. We had
- 0:21Speaker 1: our Generous Ambassador calls about two hundred people across the
- 0:24Speaker 1: US that represent Generous um voluntarily and told them about
- 0:28Speaker 1: the opening of your shop. They were so pumped, so
- 0:32Speaker 1: excited for for Generous to be there. So well, thank you.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're excited. Your girls are coming out, your reps are
- 0:37Speaker 1: coming out to teach us how to make some specialty
- 0:39Speaker 1: coffees next week, stuff that you serve out in Denver.
- 0:43Speaker 1: We're very excited. We I'm excited to taste test and yeah,
- 0:48Speaker 1: they're gonna be great. And they're pumped for two. So
- 0:49Speaker 1: the Generous team is going to show up in Rhode
- 0:51Speaker 1: Island for this big, big deal. Uh. All right, let's
- 0:54Speaker 1: dive into it. Um. We obviously got Dr Joe coming
- 0:57Speaker 1: on here in just a second. We're gonna spend a
- 0:59Speaker 1: lot of time with him to day, talking everything Paradise,
- 1:02Speaker 1: everything COVID, getting his advice and insight into all the
- 1:06Speaker 1: crazy stuff happening in Paradise and also in the world
- 1:09Speaker 1: that we live in the day. But Ashley, Um, huge
- 1:13Speaker 1: news coming out of Bachelor Nation. We have a new
- 1:16Speaker 1: host for The Bachelor, Jesse Palmer was announced. Actually, just
- 1:20Speaker 1: take it away. What are your thoughts? Okay, well, um,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I heard this rumor last week and I thought, Okay,
- 1:28Speaker 1: that'll work. I mean, he definitely is like the most
- 1:31Speaker 1: natural fit if we're going to like god, I can't
- 1:35Speaker 1: even use the word replace, but like, if we're going
- 1:39Speaker 1: to have a Chris Harrison like figure, he works very
- 1:43Speaker 1: much in that place. Um, I don't think Chris Harrison
- 1:46Speaker 1: can be replaced. I think he will always be missed
- 1:49Speaker 1: as part of this franchise. I asked people on Twitter,
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know, how are you feeling about this choice. So
- 1:55Speaker 1: many of the people say like, oh, it's not Chris,
- 1:58Speaker 1: It's not Chris, And a lot of people are saying
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's not well because a lot of people wanted it
- 2:02Speaker 1: to be wells after this season of Paradise Um. But overall,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I don't see any like real negativity towards it. Not
- 2:11Speaker 1: you know, some people are like, oh, they're just putting
- 2:14Speaker 1: another They're just putting somebody just so much like Chris
- 2:18Speaker 1: into the role um. But I don't really have I
- 2:23Speaker 1: don't personally. I just feel like it kind of fits.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm cool with it. How are you? I'm not like, Oh,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's the sweetest guy. We had
- 2:32Speaker 1: him on the podcast. I really like him. I think
- 2:35Speaker 1: he's great at what he does. I think he'll feel
- 2:38Speaker 1: like a very natural fit. It's not going to feel
- 2:40Speaker 1: weird to have him there. What do you think. I
- 2:43Speaker 1: think he'd be a terrible host of the Senior Citizen
- 2:45Speaker 1: Bachelor's show. And that's why they need because that is
- 2:47Speaker 1: your role. Now, that's your job, you know. I think
- 2:51Speaker 1: it's it's actually more surprising to me, not because of Jesse.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Like Jesse has been really nice to us. I've been
- 2:58Speaker 1: in a few events with him. He obviously has a
- 3:01Speaker 1: lot of history hosting different things, Like he's really you know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: gone across the board from sports to daytime talk to uh,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, Good Morning America to Uh, you know, he's
- 3:12Speaker 1: really is really well versed in the hosting space. I
- 3:17Speaker 1: think there's a few things that are surprised me. One person.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I have to get off my chest, I hope at
- 3:21Speaker 1: this point now, my biggest criticism has always been from
- 3:23Speaker 1: the public that they're grooming me to replace Chris Harrison,
- 3:27Speaker 1: that I'm just their golden boy, that they're always going
- 3:29Speaker 1: to try to groom to be the next Chris Harrison.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I hope at this point that conversation is done. Like
- 3:34Speaker 1: it's never been the case. It is just kind of
- 3:38Speaker 1: You are also a very natural seeming fit. I don't
- 3:41Speaker 1: think anybody would have thought it was weird if you
- 3:43Speaker 1: were chosen. I think a lot. I actually think there
- 3:46Speaker 1: have been more excitement about it because you are like
- 3:50Speaker 1: more quote relevant in Bachelor Nation Now. A lot of
- 3:53Speaker 1: people don't even know that Jesse came from the franchise
- 3:55Speaker 1: because he was the Bachelor back in two thousand four.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I mean you were the actor. Gosh, like even a
- 4:01Speaker 1: decade beyond that. Yeah, I would have loved to see
- 4:06Speaker 1: you be the host, even if that meant you had
- 4:10Speaker 1: to take a break from the podcast. Yeah. Never, I'm
- 4:12Speaker 1: not leaving. But I also feel like you were just
- 4:15Speaker 1: about to say that you want that narrative to die. Yeah, Well,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I mean I just I think it's I think it
- 4:20Speaker 1: was unfair because it was just never the case. Now
- 4:23Speaker 1: I am surprised. Now let me say this too. I
- 4:25Speaker 1: am surprised that Wells was not the chosen choice. I
- 4:29Speaker 1: think he would have. Wasn't really never in the running.
- 4:31Speaker 1: They never called you about it, they never picked your brain. No,
- 4:34Speaker 1: this is a good headline. No, I was never. I
- 4:35Speaker 1: never got the call. I'm actually semi surprised they did. Didn't,
- 4:39Speaker 1: like kind of okay, good, I'm glad you're surprised. Well
- 4:42Speaker 1: I just thought like, hey, they would have like called
- 4:44Speaker 1: and been like do you have all interest in this?
- 4:46Speaker 1: Like what do you think? Um? But I never got
- 4:49Speaker 1: a phone call, like, not even a hint, not even
- 4:51Speaker 1: a text. Um. And so I don't even that says
- 4:54Speaker 1: that they've known it's Jesse for a long time. Uh. Again,
- 4:57Speaker 1: this is nothing against Jesse. I am surprised it wasn't Wells.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I think Wells has done a terrific job in Paradise.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I think he has worked really hard in Paradise. Like
- 5:06Speaker 1: I don't think people realize just how much he does
- 5:08Speaker 1: as a bartender in Paradise for very little pay. Um,
- 5:13Speaker 1: maybe he will be the Paradise host. I still think
- 5:15Speaker 1: that's a possibility, and I think it would be a
- 5:17Speaker 1: good choice. Was gonna say it makes sense to me?
- 5:20Speaker 1: Is the Paradise host? It would make sense to me. Um,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I don't think this. Yeah, I think I'm with you
- 5:28Speaker 1: where it's like, okay, I mean, it's just not it's
- 5:31Speaker 1: not a shake up, you know, it's not the new trajectory.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It is. It is replacing Chris, and that's hard to do.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I think Jesse's shoes are going to be massive to fill.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be really hard for him to do.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I think Caitlin and Tasia kind of had the benefit
- 5:45Speaker 1: of the doubt because they've been on the show before,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and I think people were just like intrigued by how
- 5:50Speaker 1: they would navigate it, and they both weren't professional hosts necessarily,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and so people kind of were just like, let's just
- 5:55Speaker 1: see if they have fun with it, and they did.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I'm not mad at it. I'm not. I don't think
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's like a I don't think it's like, oh my gosh,
- 6:02Speaker 1: it's a terrible choice. I don't see the criticism right
- 6:04Speaker 1: now being about Jesse. I just think it's like, okay,
- 6:07Speaker 1: like cool, Yeah, I like had like very little reaction.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I was like, I'm fine with that. Sure. I wonder
- 6:13Speaker 1: who they did call, Like I wonder if Robin. I
- 6:15Speaker 1: thought Robin Roberts would have been in a terrific replacement.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So what I was just going to ask you who
- 6:20Speaker 1: was like your lofty dream host that you were like,
- 6:23Speaker 1: that person is probably not gonna do it, but I
- 6:26Speaker 1: think they'd be great. So my choice is Michael Strahan. Yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 1: so mine's Robin Roberts. I think Robin Roberts. I've met
- 6:32Speaker 1: her personally many times. She's always been incredibly intentional about
- 6:37Speaker 1: conversations when when I'm on Good Morning America, She's calmed
- 6:40Speaker 1: my nerves when I've been nervous on Good Morning America. Um,
- 6:44Speaker 1: she like has she knew about my coffee without ever
- 6:49Speaker 1: being a focus on the show. She asked me about
- 6:51Speaker 1: Generous Coffee and how it was going, and she just said, hey,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm really it's like really cool to see what you're doing.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Like she knew all this, And I was just like
- 6:57Speaker 1: that that's who you want as a host, Like you
- 6:59Speaker 1: want that character or that person to care outside the
- 7:02Speaker 1: show just as much as they do on the show.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And so like my lofty goals like Robin Roberts incredible
- 7:07Speaker 1: host of The Bachelor, cool mine miss Michael Strayhan for
- 7:11Speaker 1: a very similar reason. Is it's funny that they're both
- 7:12Speaker 1: the g M A host. Uh. He's so warm and
- 7:16Speaker 1: I think that he can have those like heart to
- 7:18Speaker 1: heart conversations without being weird. I feel like he would
- 7:22Speaker 1: have brought a little humor to the show, a little lightheartedness,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but not like overdoing it. And he is that he's
- 7:29Speaker 1: so personal, Like when we've been on Good Morning America,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm like, I can't believe that one. I mean giants fans,
- 7:35Speaker 1: So this is like even cooler for me. But like
- 7:37Speaker 1: he'll come in the backstage area and he'll like hang
- 7:41Speaker 1: for a little while just with the guests, and then
- 7:44Speaker 1: he remembers us and we're just like these Bachelor people,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you know, so like I'm not like a celebrity to
- 7:50Speaker 1: be remembered, and then um, he like FaceTime to my
- 7:55Speaker 1: friend backstage. He's just so warm and cool, and that
- 7:57Speaker 1: would have been awesome. But but again, that man is
- 8:01Speaker 1: so freaking busy. It wouldn't have been at all on
- 8:04Speaker 1: his agenda to even consider money speaks who knows. Um,
- 8:08Speaker 1: But no, I think those are two good choices. Yeah. Again,
- 8:11Speaker 1: Jesse's been great to us. He's a super nice guy.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I know we'll have him on the podcast now as
- 8:16Speaker 1: the new host of the show. Nothing against him. I'm
- 8:18Speaker 1: just a little surprised with the choice. Uh, it's I
- 8:21Speaker 1: think it threw me off. And I'm like, okay, like,
- 8:24Speaker 1: let's let's see how it works. Um and uh and
- 8:27Speaker 1: we'll see how he does. And I'm sure he'll do fine,
- 8:31Speaker 1: um at this hosting role. I just expected a little
- 8:34Speaker 1: more of a shake up, uh as as we kind
- 8:37Speaker 1: of got this like new opportunity to shake it up
- 8:39Speaker 1: and uh and so yeah, well we'll wait and see. Well,
- 8:43Speaker 1: one other big headline of the week, as we mentioned before,
- 8:47Speaker 1: m Michelle's Young's women have been revealed. We're gonna break
- 8:52Speaker 1: those down on a whole separate podcast, a very special
- 8:55Speaker 1: episode here coming up after parad What I said, Oh gosh,
- 9:01Speaker 1: well it's been a long day. Anyways, Michelle Young's men
- 9:06Speaker 1: have been revealed, So we will talk about that. Actually,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I will break it down, uh here in an upcoming episode,
- 9:11Speaker 1: so just stay tuned. Um, maybe do your research beforehand.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Send us in your thoughts, your questions, your concerns. Um,
- 9:17Speaker 1: it feels like it's going to be a crazy season. Uh,
- 9:21Speaker 1: and it sounds like Michelle does a great job as
- 9:23Speaker 1: the lead. Yeah, I'm excited to see it's gonna come.
- 9:27Speaker 1: If it's going to be here before we know it.
- 9:29Speaker 1: All right, well let's get Mr Joe park On. He's
- 9:33Speaker 1: in our waiting room. We'll be right back. Al right, guys,
- 9:45Speaker 1: Well we have a doctor Joe On, none of our
- 9:47Speaker 1: favor one of our figures. Hey, Dr Joe, Hi Joe,
- 9:53Speaker 1: Just what are you calling one again? Call me whatever
- 9:55Speaker 1: you want. We've met now three times. So Joe is fine.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But I guess like you have to differentiate yourself from
- 10:03Speaker 1: Grocery Store Joe. So like, uh, that's fair. You know,
- 10:07Speaker 1: he came first, so I'll defer to him whatever he
- 10:10Speaker 1: wants to go by, and he wants me to go by.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm good at whatever. It's funny because he comes with
- 10:14Speaker 1: an official title as well, Grocery Star. That's true GSJ now,
- 10:19Speaker 1: but I think it's now transition to g s J.
- 10:21Speaker 1: He just goes straight. Yeah, he's he's got another echelon
- 10:27Speaker 1: of bachelor, the bachelor credibility, where he's just initials. I
- 10:31Speaker 1: feel like that's when you really branded yourself well, is
- 10:33Speaker 1: when you can start with something and you drop it
- 10:35Speaker 1: and people still know what it refers as. That's cool.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Good for him. Okay, So Joe, I asked my Twitter following, well,
- 10:44Speaker 1: actually I don't know if I should get into this
- 10:46Speaker 1: real quick, but like, let's let's do it anyway. Your
- 10:50Speaker 1: Bachelor in Paradise experienced was sort of short lived. Uh
- 10:55Speaker 1: got no right off the bat any desire like do
- 10:59Speaker 1: they want you to come early on or could you
- 11:02Speaker 1: for work reasons not take off long enough. We really
- 11:05Speaker 1: thought that you should be part of the original cast. Um.
- 11:09Speaker 1: So obviously these decisions are not made by me. UM.
- 11:13Speaker 1: This Bachelor machine is very well oiled. They know what
- 11:17Speaker 1: they're doing, and I trusted that process for sure. UM.
- 11:23Speaker 1: They had told me a couple of times say maybe
- 11:26Speaker 1: this day, maybe this day, you'll be on UM, but
- 11:29Speaker 1: again I trust UM the people in charge. They again
- 11:34Speaker 1: do a fantastic job, and they thought at certain points
- 11:38Speaker 1: the timing wasn't right, and so I came on when
- 11:40Speaker 1: they thought it was the best time. They thought it
- 11:45Speaker 1: was the best time for me to be on saying,
- 11:47Speaker 1: so you could have gone in earlier. Yeah, you don't
- 11:49Speaker 1: have to get too far into I just wonder, like,
- 11:52Speaker 1: now that you say that, just how much because it
- 11:53Speaker 1: does make sense, like if they held you back because
- 11:56Speaker 1: of what was going on in Brendan, Like they're just
- 11:57Speaker 1: like like this feels like throwing Joe and like the
- 12:00Speaker 1: firing squad, and like we don't really I want to
- 12:03Speaker 1: do this to this guy. Um, that's just an interesting
- 12:06Speaker 1: thought now, Joe. UM question for you, because it's always
- 12:10Speaker 1: been intriguing to me, What in the world do you
- 12:13Speaker 1: do for twelve days in quarantine in a hotel room,
- 12:17Speaker 1: like without knowing when you're going to be released, Like say,
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's not all COVID quarantine at that point, that is
- 12:25Speaker 1: just what we call being stuck in the hotel room. Um.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So the first one or two days I was just
- 12:35Speaker 1: kind of getting my bearings, but actually ended up being
- 12:38Speaker 1: a really really great time. I read three books, I
- 12:44Speaker 1: practiced my Spanish lot there was we had Spanish television
- 12:46Speaker 1: that was available, so I was brushed up with my Spanish.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Actually made a folded um a bunch of paper hearts.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I folded about a hundred and twelve paper hearts. Yeah. Uh,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I learned every country of the world and most of
- 13:02Speaker 1: their capitals. So I stretched a lot of worked out
- 13:05Speaker 1: three times a day. Um, it was very and it
- 13:07Speaker 1: was it was so peaceful. It was great. I played
- 13:09Speaker 1: the ukulele. I bought one right before and I learned it.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So it was it was smart smart. This is not
- 13:17Speaker 1: everybody's quarantine. I'd be like, I ate, I watched TV,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I tanned, mapped, I ate a lot of guacamole as well. Though,
- 13:27Speaker 1: so I'm I'm we're on the same page. But but yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I mean there's only so much you can do without
- 13:32Speaker 1: a phone and uh internet, So it was but yeah,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and once you got into the routine, um it was.
- 13:41Speaker 1: It was really nice to wake up and have you know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: the kind of things and do check list of things
- 13:45Speaker 1: to do. Well, that's uh, yeah, your quarantine didn't look
- 13:48Speaker 1: like everybody else's. Let's just say that I'd love to
- 13:50Speaker 1: get the Bachelor franchise that much credit. And so I
- 13:52Speaker 1: can imagine that each one of these people were doing that. No,
- 13:54Speaker 1: that wasn't happening. Joe, we have a lot to talk
- 13:58Speaker 1: about with you today, especially around on UM the vaccine
- 14:01Speaker 1: and your thoughts on it and then COVID. You've had COVID,
- 14:05Speaker 1: but you know, obviously as well, people are gonna be
- 14:07Speaker 1: very interested in your in your Bachelor in Paradise story. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: if you're honest, like no holds bar were you are.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Do you feel like your Bachelor in Paradise UM journey
- 14:19Speaker 1: was a success? Do you feel like it kind of
- 14:22Speaker 1: missed the mark? Do you feel disappointed? And let me
- 14:25Speaker 1: preface this by saying, actually never said we didn't see
- 14:27Speaker 1: more of you. UM, So we would call it a
- 14:30Speaker 1: disappointment from a viewer standpoint, because we want to see
- 14:32Speaker 1: more of you. But for you personally, how was it? UM?
- 14:36Speaker 1: I would say it was it was semi sweet, like
- 14:42Speaker 1: like a semi sweet chocolate. It wasn't though I'm I'm
- 14:46Speaker 1: grateful for the opportunity. I've been there, and UM I
- 14:49Speaker 1: did UM have moments where I had some really good
- 14:52Speaker 1: conversations with Natasha. UM. I was happy to see everyone again,
- 14:56Speaker 1: producers production. There are a couple of sound guys who
- 14:59Speaker 1: U I had seen the first time, and so in
- 15:02Speaker 1: that respect, it was great, UM. But obviously I was
- 15:07Speaker 1: hoping to find something real, and I was really hoping,
- 15:13Speaker 1: you know, I went in with a lot of hope,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and especially after quarantining for twelve days. I think it's
- 15:17Speaker 1: really natural that the more univest, the more expectation. Maybe
- 15:22Speaker 1: that's unfair, but I did have more expectation going in UM,
- 15:25Speaker 1: thinking that this would be a right situation to be
- 15:26Speaker 1: something down the pipe. And I don't blame anyone for it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: It's it was really just a situation that was difficult
- 15:35Speaker 1: for everybody. And but that said I would I'm I
- 15:41Speaker 1: don't regret going, but it was not um. It wasn't
- 15:45Speaker 1: the best experience, to put it that way. So I
- 15:49Speaker 1: remember when we kind of tried to pry a little
- 15:53Speaker 1: bit and we asked you who you'd want to go
- 15:56Speaker 1: down to Bachelor in Paradise and hang out with, and
- 15:59Speaker 1: we met rome antically, but you kind of, like, you know,
- 16:01Speaker 1: took it in a very peasy, you know, very pr
- 16:04Speaker 1: friendly way, and you said you want to go and
- 16:07Speaker 1: hang out with Brendan. So your friendship with Brendan, uh,
- 16:12Speaker 1: it played lots of roles. I guess my biggest question
- 16:18Speaker 1: as far as that is, if you had known that
- 16:21Speaker 1: Natasha was so entangled with him prior to asking her
- 16:25Speaker 1: on the date? Would you have still asked her? It was,
- 16:29Speaker 1: that's a great question. There was when I got there, Um,
- 16:33Speaker 1: it was such an interesting scenario. There were people, the
- 16:38Speaker 1: way I put it to people, there were people who
- 16:40Speaker 1: were in relationships already or quote uncot relationships. I didn't
- 16:43Speaker 1: know how Bachelor Paradise were really, I didn't know how
- 16:46Speaker 1: off and on, how cold things were. But I got
- 16:50Speaker 1: there and I talked to Kendall and she was obviously
- 16:55Speaker 1: not in a great place, and we actually a really
- 16:57Speaker 1: fun conversation. I had bought her book the day before
- 17:00Speaker 1: I left for quarantine and read a bit of it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: We had some fun conversations about crabs. But clearly she
- 17:05Speaker 1: was on the right place um during conversation and for
- 17:08Speaker 1: understandably so touching Natasha and she was still a beach
- 17:13Speaker 1: was breezy. She said. Her time there wasn't. Um, it
- 17:17Speaker 1: wasn't great beforehand, no details, no names, was just hey,
- 17:20Speaker 1: I had a rough go thus far, but I'm still
- 17:23Speaker 1: hopeful and ready to make this work. Something happened, waiting
- 17:26Speaker 1: ready for something to happen. Um, So it's hard. So
- 17:31Speaker 1: there were either people who were already very much in
- 17:34Speaker 1: or in a quote uncrelationship or like birds with broken
- 17:38Speaker 1: wings and they're trying to fly, they're doing the best
- 17:40Speaker 1: they can. They're hopping around. They got little but they
- 17:42Speaker 1: got a little crutch and they were just doing the
- 17:44Speaker 1: best they could. And some people put on stronger faces
- 17:48Speaker 1: and braver faces. Um. And again that's commendable, and Natasha
- 17:51Speaker 1: definitely did that, and it was so commendable, especially after
- 17:55Speaker 1: everything she went through. But it's a good question. I
- 17:57Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know. I'm not sure, um, what
- 18:01Speaker 1: I would have done at that time. In fairness, I
- 18:05Speaker 1: have a personal question for you because I think your
- 18:08Speaker 1: thoughts are gonna be um wise. But you know, obviously
- 18:14Speaker 1: you go on the state with Natasha, she brings up
- 18:16Speaker 1: that the person that you wanted to see in Paradise,
- 18:18Speaker 1: Brendan Um had you know, they had their situation. Uh,
- 18:23Speaker 1: And obviously the public really jumped onto that, and you
- 18:27Speaker 1: kind of all of a sudden, we're thrown into the
- 18:29Speaker 1: middle of it without even knowing you're gonna get thrown
- 18:31Speaker 1: in the middle of it. Well, Paradise is now over
- 18:33Speaker 1: everybody's home. We've seen it play out. Paradise is over
- 18:36Speaker 1: for everybody. But for you, it is, how are you
- 18:40Speaker 1: if you agree or disagree with Brendan's decisions now that
- 18:43Speaker 1: you've seen him, how are you being a good friend
- 18:45Speaker 1: to him? Now? What kind of friend can you be
- 18:47Speaker 1: in this moment while you know, if people agree to disagree,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you're still a friend. I would imagine, Um, that's a
- 18:54Speaker 1: really good question. And I when I got back, you know, well,
- 18:59Speaker 1: while I was in quantry, obviously we don't know anything
- 19:01Speaker 1: that happened before, and I had heard the Natasha not everything,
- 19:06Speaker 1: bits and pieces, and I think that's also, um, a
- 19:10Speaker 1: really great of her. She didn't want to completely uh
- 19:13Speaker 1: talk about Brendan, but that second half of the day
- 19:15Speaker 1: it really was dominated by her time beforehand and the
- 19:21Speaker 1: ways in which she had been hurt during her time
- 19:24Speaker 1: of practors prior to me getting there. And to be honest,
- 19:29Speaker 1: at that time, my reaction, uh, when I said my Brendon,
- 19:34Speaker 1: it was half uh, it was it was having credulous
- 19:43Speaker 1: and it was half there are the Brendans there. There
- 19:46Speaker 1: wasn't Brendan Quinn that I had known about the season before,
- 19:48Speaker 1: So I was just speaking short, we're on the same
- 19:50Speaker 1: page here, and and at that time it really was
- 19:54Speaker 1: somebody who had just met who I did believe what
- 19:58Speaker 1: she said, but it was it was talking about somebody
- 20:02Speaker 1: who I had grown close with, who I got close
- 20:05Speaker 1: to obviously on the first, the first go around on
- 20:08Speaker 1: the Bachelorette. Now I have seen and spoken to many
- 20:12Speaker 1: times thereafter, and in my head I really wanted I
- 20:15Speaker 1: wish I could hear his side. And when I got
- 20:18Speaker 1: back home, I did hear a side. Obviously didn't see
- 20:21Speaker 1: everything that happened, but before the season aired, I heard
- 20:24Speaker 1: his side, and at that point, again I was still
- 20:26Speaker 1: very I wasn't sure what to think. Because I'd heard
- 20:31Speaker 1: her side, I would heard his side. And then obviously,
- 20:34Speaker 1: like everyone else, UM, I saw bits and pieces, the
- 20:40Speaker 1: salient pieces of the first few episodes where what transpired
- 20:45Speaker 1: between them was aired. And I can't condone anything he did. Um.
- 20:54Speaker 1: He was manipulative, he lied, UM, he gaslet, and I
- 21:01Speaker 1: think it was set on the show the the pillowed.
- 21:08Speaker 1: One thing you can't do is potentially show up on
- 21:11Speaker 1: this show with something already happening that obviates the whole process.
- 21:17Speaker 1: And if I were a viewer, uh, and that's all
- 21:21Speaker 1: I knew of him on TV, I would I think
- 21:26Speaker 1: he's a terrible human being and really seek for everything
- 21:30Speaker 1: he did, and what he did was period. The difference
- 21:34Speaker 1: in my situation is I I've met his family. I
- 21:40Speaker 1: know him to be a good friend. I know him
- 21:44Speaker 1: to be a good son, I know him to be
- 21:46Speaker 1: a good uncle. UM. I know him on all these facets.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I know him to be the guy who drove an
- 21:53Speaker 1: hour when he was based in New York to my hospital,
- 21:56Speaker 1: gave out water for two hours to all the healthcare
- 21:59Speaker 1: workers in the freezing cold. Him and Kenny came by
- 22:02Speaker 1: and then drove an our back just just to do that.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I know him to be the youth basketball coach who
- 22:08Speaker 1: gives his time to coach basketball. And so I don't
- 22:14Speaker 1: agree with anything he did, and I he knows we've
- 22:17Speaker 1: talked and he knows how I feel about um, how
- 22:20Speaker 1: he acted. But I knowing the man that I know UM,
- 22:25Speaker 1: the amount of time I've done him and the conversations
- 22:28Speaker 1: we've had, I do think and I believe that he
- 22:34Speaker 1: has learned a lot and that he can change and
- 22:37Speaker 1: he's starting, he's realizing and he can learn from this.
- 22:40Speaker 1: And though he's in this storm, this awful storm that
- 22:43Speaker 1: he himself created, I do. I will stand next to
- 22:48Speaker 1: him through this storm, and I won't shiel him from it,
- 22:53Speaker 1: but I'll just be like, hey, i'm, i'm, I'm, I'm.
- 22:55Speaker 1: He's still here for you if you need me. Um,
- 22:58Speaker 1: and hopefully you know again, you'll learn from this. But
- 23:02Speaker 1: but yeah, it's definitely not easy for him, and I
- 23:04Speaker 1: do think he's learning from it. No, No, that was great. UM.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I am just curious. What do you think it is
- 23:11Speaker 1: about the show that makes good people go bad? Um?
- 23:20Speaker 1: I will say I think without question, there is a
- 23:27Speaker 1: potential reward for being on the national television. There is
- 23:33Speaker 1: a golden This is a potentially a golden ticket for
- 23:35Speaker 1: a lot of people, uh ads and um sponsorships and
- 23:40Speaker 1: all these things that we see so so uh frequently
- 23:44Speaker 1: after the show. You know, everyone's in a coupon cod
- 23:46Speaker 1: swipe up bad you know, click this link, click that link.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Podcast and so podcast just the lowest of the low.
- 23:54Speaker 1: But so, I do think it is a when there's
- 24:00Speaker 1: there's yourself in the self into this, in these incentives
- 24:03Speaker 1: in place, it's going to lead to people trying to
- 24:05Speaker 1: cheat this game. And even when they're not cheating the game,
- 24:10Speaker 1: I don't think it's crazy to think that a lot
- 24:12Speaker 1: of people are there because they of secondary game. That maybe,
- 24:18Speaker 1: and this is just one man's opinion, that maybe everyone
- 24:21Speaker 1: isn't there justifying love them. Maybe they're also thinking about
- 24:24Speaker 1: the Instagram following, about how much they can make or
- 24:28Speaker 1: what can come out of it thereafter. So I think
- 24:32Speaker 1: that's what makes people go bad. I think it's just
- 24:33Speaker 1: the incentive structure of the show, you know, just being
- 24:36Speaker 1: real here. Yeah, well, um, you held your own man.
- 24:40Speaker 1: You came into it, Yes it was quick. Yes, we
- 24:45Speaker 1: here feel like it wasn't enough. Um, but you exited
- 24:48Speaker 1: out on a on a high note. Um, you held
- 24:51Speaker 1: your own and uh and I think for that, uh,
- 24:54Speaker 1: we were happy about it. Um. We don't want to
- 24:56Speaker 1: see a good guy like you go bad, and you didn't.
- 25:00Speaker 1: But before we move on, I do have to have
- 25:03Speaker 1: two more paradise questions for you, if you don't mind. Okay,
- 25:07Speaker 1: on TV, it seemed it seems so abrupt that your
- 25:12Speaker 1: date went from being great and by the way, I
- 25:14Speaker 1: love the speaking Spanish to her, loved the I'm gonna
- 25:18Speaker 1: switch drinks because there's a bug in yours move. It
- 25:21Speaker 1: was so cute. You're such a perfect gentleman. And then
- 25:24Speaker 1: all of a sudden, the Brendan thing came up and
- 25:26Speaker 1: like the tables turned. But I'm assuming that in real
- 25:31Speaker 1: life it was probably a two was it a two
- 25:33Speaker 1: hour ishul sit down day? And well just hour and
- 25:37Speaker 1: a half and then like on TV, we just saw
- 25:39Speaker 1: it go sour real quick. How was it that abrupt
- 25:43Speaker 1: that you was started having second thoughts about her because
- 25:46Speaker 1: of the Brendan twitch. I I when I watched it,
- 25:51Speaker 1: I watched it um with friends, and it really does
- 25:54Speaker 1: take you back to your mind space because I was
- 25:57Speaker 1: I saw it for the first time when everyone else
- 25:59Speaker 1: saw it, and my I think everyone thought second thoughts.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But it wasn't second thoughts per se. I could tell
- 26:09Speaker 1: when she had started really going into it that she
- 26:12Speaker 1: it really did hurt her. And it's just my way.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And I felt the same way about Kendall because I wasn't,
- 26:21Speaker 1: especially after reading your book, I was interested in her.
- 26:23Speaker 1: You and Kendall seemed to make a lot of sense.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Just no and you both a little you know, um,
- 26:31Speaker 1: but when somebody is hurt, my first instinct not to think, oh,
- 26:38Speaker 1: here's my chance, like let's make my move. I just
- 26:41Speaker 1: wanted to say, hey, I don't know if you have
- 26:45Speaker 1: anyone else out out there in the beast, I don't know.
- 26:46Speaker 1: They're in their own relationships, their own they're in their
- 26:49Speaker 1: own space, trying to make things work. I wanted first
- 26:52Speaker 1: and foremost. I know it's a TV show. I know
- 26:54Speaker 1: it's bass from Paradise and people are there to find love,
- 26:57Speaker 1: but I still can't turn off that part of me.
- 26:59Speaker 1: It's like, Hey, I want you to be okay as
- 27:01Speaker 1: a person. I want you to be like good and
- 27:04Speaker 1: I want you to know that, like relationally or unrelationally,
- 27:08Speaker 1: that uh, I am a safe place for you, like period,
- 27:13Speaker 1: like I'm if you want to talk about it, we
- 27:15Speaker 1: can talk about it. And so at the end of
- 27:18Speaker 1: the day, I remember, I don't remember saying it, but
- 27:19Speaker 1: then I watched it. I was saying hey, like I'll
- 27:21Speaker 1: be here, You'll be here. That really was me trying
- 27:25Speaker 1: to say hey. And I told her also that wasn't aired.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I said, Hey, we'll also both be in New York.
- 27:30Speaker 1: You know, both in New York. I can't wait until
- 27:32Speaker 1: we because obviously people are different on camera. Some people
- 27:34Speaker 1: are different camera than they are off camera. I meant
- 27:37Speaker 1: to say, hey, when you're ready, because you literally just
- 27:40Speaker 1: got through this eight hours ago. You just went through this,
- 27:43Speaker 1: this storm of this redemption roase. It was the same day,
- 27:47Speaker 1: you know, because the road sun't happened early in the morning.
- 27:50Speaker 1: It's just me, this me saying, hey, like, I don't
- 27:52Speaker 1: want to push this forward. When you're ready, I'm here.
- 27:56Speaker 1: You're here, and when you're comfortable and you feel like
- 28:00Speaker 1: you're able to kind of regroup and form that connection again,
- 28:04Speaker 1: I'm here for you and I'll be here and I
- 28:07Speaker 1: don't want to again make you uncomfortable by, you know,
- 28:12Speaker 1: all of a sudden trying to kiss you and be
- 28:15Speaker 1: overly touchy. And that's what that was. It wasn't I mean,
- 28:20Speaker 1: the touch is beautiful, and she's intelligent, and she's funny,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and she's very mature, and I just didn't want to
- 28:28Speaker 1: form a foundation on something that was um where she's
- 28:32Speaker 1: in such a hard place emotionally. And that's why interviews
- 28:36Speaker 1: like these are great. We get to learn more about
- 28:38Speaker 1: the situation. I also just gotta know, Um, you are
- 28:43Speaker 1: such close friends with Brendan that, like you must have
- 28:47Speaker 1: known that he had a prior relationship with Piper. Did
- 28:50Speaker 1: you ever think, like, hey, dude, maybe he should chill
- 28:53Speaker 1: this out if you're both going to paradise, because you
- 28:56Speaker 1: may get in trouble. So I hung out with them
- 28:59Speaker 1: in group settings A lot of us, you know, just
- 29:03Speaker 1: you know, it's a lot of people did, but a
- 29:05Speaker 1: lot of people held a lot of people in group settings.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And that's true for like I find out Abigail a lot. Um,
- 29:13Speaker 1: I finding out Chelsea a lot. I find out Serena
- 29:14Speaker 1: a lot. I've hung out with Piper a lot. And
- 29:17Speaker 1: they existed in group settings all the time. I was
- 29:20Speaker 1: there when they first met. We all met the same time.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So I don't think. I don't think they were in
- 29:28Speaker 1: a full on relationship at least before. I mean, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: hadn't seen Brendan for three two or three months prior
- 29:33Speaker 1: to the filming, I believe, um, And I wasn't obviously.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I saw the pictures online. Um, I saw like a
- 29:42Speaker 1: sweekly article, you know, popsible on Instagram feed. But I
- 29:45Speaker 1: didn't think they were in like an exclusive, exclusive relationship.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And I don't. I still I'm not sure if they
- 29:51Speaker 1: were in fairness, um so if they did have a
- 29:56Speaker 1: plan obviously, so really it went very poorly and they
- 30:00Speaker 1: shouldn't have done it. But again. I'm telling you, we
- 30:03Speaker 1: all it's a small, small, vast nation world. After all,
- 30:10Speaker 1: we all hang out. It's just we haven't all made out.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But well, a lot of people, very important, very important distinction. Yeah, yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 1: a lot of people have made out. Let's not let's
- 30:19Speaker 1: not ignore that either. Um me, yeah, we were just
- 30:23Speaker 1: talking about that Actuley and I are texting this weekend.
- 30:25Speaker 1: A lot of people are out in New York City
- 30:27Speaker 1: at a at a concert, and uh, we're texting. I
- 30:29Speaker 1: was like, did I did? I missed the invite? Like
- 30:31Speaker 1: I didn't get invited anymore. And She's like, I don't
- 30:33Speaker 1: know if if we get invited this stuff anymore. It's like,
- 30:35Speaker 1: you know what, I don't know if I'm mad about it.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Like I have a pretty good, big going I was
- 30:39Speaker 1: in bed at eight thirty on Friday, so pretty pretty
- 30:42Speaker 1: pumped about that. Um all right, well, Joe, thanks for
- 30:46Speaker 1: your honesty, thanks for your openness. We're not done with
- 30:48Speaker 1: you yet. We gotta talk covid um, booster shots, the vaccine,
- 30:53Speaker 1: everything medically around, all of that here in just a second.
- 30:57Speaker 1: But it's take a break and we're gonna come back
- 30:59Speaker 1: with doctor Joe. He's gonna put his doctor hat on
- 31:01Speaker 1: now it's not his paradise hat, and teach us. Yeah,
- 31:05Speaker 1: please do yeah, yeah, all right, Dr Joe, you just
- 31:19Speaker 1: broke down paradise with us. It's time now to talk
- 31:22Speaker 1: to us about and hopefully educate us on the vaccine. Uh.
- 31:26Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of things going on. I
- 31:28Speaker 1: just want to start with this. I um, yeah, I
- 31:32Speaker 1: am vaccinated, um, fully vaccinated. That was a choice I made.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But I have a lot of friends, uh that are
- 31:40Speaker 1: are not vaccinated, and there's a few things that I
- 31:43Speaker 1: want to start out with. It was just asking you
- 31:44Speaker 1: some questions that they've asked me because I can't answer them.
- 31:47Speaker 1: They saying, hey, why would I get vaccinated if I'm
- 31:50Speaker 1: still gonna get covid? Uh, that doesn't make sense to
- 31:53Speaker 1: me because that has happened in our friend group. Somebody
- 31:55Speaker 1: has been fully vaccinated, gotten COVID and gotten covid pretty bad.
- 31:58Speaker 1: They're sick for a while. So um, that was the
- 32:02Speaker 1: first question that I want to ask you, is why
- 32:04Speaker 1: would you get vaccinated if you can still get covid. Um.
- 32:08Speaker 1: That's a great question, is a very fair question and
- 32:10Speaker 1: a question that a lot of people have asked. So
- 32:13Speaker 1: the big thing is the delta variants going around, and
- 32:17Speaker 1: though it's possible they come break through infections, they are
- 32:20Speaker 1: still exceedingly rare. Nine day percent of infections COVID infections
- 32:25Speaker 1: are from people who have not had any formula vaccine,
- 32:29Speaker 1: So although there are anecdotal cases, they are exceedingly rare
- 32:33Speaker 1: and much obviously much much much rarer if you have
- 32:36Speaker 1: a vaccine. Secondly, the fact that your friend had it
- 32:40Speaker 1: pretty bad is also exceedingly rare. Next to nobody is
- 32:44Speaker 1: hospitalized even if you get it, so now one, it's
- 32:46Speaker 1: rare that you get it. To to be hospitalized is
- 32:50Speaker 1: almost unseen. And then that's very different than people who
- 32:54Speaker 1: are unvaccinated. People are unvaccinated still have much much higher
- 32:57Speaker 1: rates of getting severe disease and being hospitalized from the disease.
- 33:02Speaker 1: And so in that way, again, uh, the chance and
- 33:06Speaker 1: you're getting it is uh significantly diminished, and also severe
- 33:10Speaker 1: disease and hospitation significantly diminished. Um And also kind of
- 33:14Speaker 1: as a corollary to that, a lot of your friends
- 33:19Speaker 1: and a lot of our friends probably are around the
- 33:22Speaker 1: same age, young adults who honestly would probably do um
- 33:26Speaker 1: okay health wise because they are healthy already, but their
- 33:32Speaker 1: parents might not, and their coworkers might not, and other
- 33:35Speaker 1: people who are at risk may not. So even that
- 33:39Speaker 1: for yourself, for your community, for your loved ones, for
- 33:43Speaker 1: all those reasons. Uh, it is a good idea to
- 33:46Speaker 1: get vaccinated. UM. And by the way, all the the
- 33:50Speaker 1: three vaccines we use in the United States, they're all
- 33:52Speaker 1: approved at this point for people sixting and older and
- 33:55Speaker 1: so even more reason. UM yeah, great, well appreciation. I
- 34:02Speaker 1: am getting getting so many questions from girls on Instagram.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I know you're not O, B G y N, but
- 34:08Speaker 1: so many are like are like I'm thinking we're you know,
- 34:11Speaker 1: my husband and I are trying now or I am pregnant,
- 34:14Speaker 1: Like what did you do? I did a whole podcast
- 34:18Speaker 1: on my other podcast. I don't get it about this.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I talked to four doctors. UM. Different points of view
- 34:25Speaker 1: for sure, UM, but it was cool and I always
- 34:28Speaker 1: it helped me make my decision to get it. I
- 34:31Speaker 1: actually got the shot day after we conceived, unknowing, and
- 34:35Speaker 1: then I waited until sixteen weeks to get my second
- 34:38Speaker 1: dose UM just because I was so sick the first
- 34:41Speaker 1: you know, trimester. UM, But do you have anything to
- 34:45Speaker 1: say about people worried about fertility and people worried about
- 34:52Speaker 1: miscarriage or anything like that for young women. And again,
- 34:56Speaker 1: knowing Bachelor Nation, I know that's a large percentage of
- 34:59Speaker 1: people who watched the show and who are who are
- 35:02Speaker 1: fans of the show and obviously listen to these podcasts.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I would say the American College of Obstations kind of
- 35:08Speaker 1: collegists ACOG has been very clear, and I know there's anecdotes.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I know there are opinions from one person another person,
- 35:16Speaker 1: and even different obstetricians probably will have different opinions about
- 35:19Speaker 1: these things. But the overarching body, the rule, the governing
- 35:23Speaker 1: body of all obstetricians, say it is safe to get
- 35:28Speaker 1: the vaccine UM while you're trying to conceive, while you're pregnant,
- 35:33Speaker 1: while you're lactating and breastfeeding UM. So there are no contradications. Again,
- 35:36Speaker 1: this comes from not one person's opinion, not um anecdotal um,
- 35:42Speaker 1: you know, incidents, but from the UH, the ruling, the
- 35:46Speaker 1: governing the official organization that oversees all of obstractions kind
- 35:52Speaker 1: of college. And so I'll defer to their recommendations on
- 35:55Speaker 1: that UM and they are very they are pretty clear,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and I would recommend anyone who's care is to go
- 36:00Speaker 1: to a COG's website, UM to get more guidance on that.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I think it's a good question because it's it is
- 36:06Speaker 1: one that gets brought up. I have a lot of
- 36:08Speaker 1: friends that are getting getting pregnant and this has been
- 36:10Speaker 1: something kind of sitting over them, is if it's safe
- 36:13Speaker 1: or not. UM, Joey are going to play kind of
- 36:15Speaker 1: like Devil's advocate here because I think the most helpful
- 36:17Speaker 1: thing is not to come on here and say you
- 36:19Speaker 1: should do it, you should do it, but ask the
- 36:20Speaker 1: questions that everybody are asking, because I think education on
- 36:23Speaker 1: this stuff is very important. UM and and a lot
- 36:26Speaker 1: of people have do have a lot of different opinions,
- 36:28Speaker 1: and I think at the same time that's fair. You
- 36:30Speaker 1: know a lot of people are concerned, this is confusing.
- 36:32Speaker 1: This is the first time in this you know, in
- 36:35Speaker 1: the in this generation's life that they've kind of been
- 36:37Speaker 1: asked to do something by a governing body. And so
- 36:41Speaker 1: I want to ask you, UM, why do you have
- 36:45Speaker 1: the trust in it? And I mean, obviously you are
- 36:47Speaker 1: a doctor, so I think we can probably assume the answer,
- 36:49Speaker 1: But why do you have the trust in a governing
- 36:51Speaker 1: body to to tell the general public that they should
- 36:53Speaker 1: be vaccinated. Um, Ben, I'm so glad you bring that up.
- 36:57Speaker 1: And people are right to have these questions. They're not
- 37:03Speaker 1: dumb for having these questions or not antime. You know
- 37:06Speaker 1: people there are intelligent people ask these questions. Um. To answer,
- 37:12Speaker 1: I would say, we have had these they are mandated.
- 37:15Speaker 1: You just don't remember the mmrs. Man, everyone's all of
- 37:17Speaker 1: us have got the MMR backs. So first of all,
- 37:20Speaker 1: it is something that we all do. We just we're
- 37:22Speaker 1: two younger babies when we got it. Um. A lot
- 37:25Speaker 1: of people get the flu shot every year. Those that's
- 37:27Speaker 1: not mandated. But um, so this is not completely out
- 37:32Speaker 1: of the blue or novel. It is something that we
- 37:34Speaker 1: all have gone through. But obviously as an adult, it
- 37:38Speaker 1: is something that's very new. And again there are um
- 37:43Speaker 1: a lot of good, good questions out there. And I
- 37:46Speaker 1: trusted because I've read the papers. I trust the governing bodies,
- 37:50Speaker 1: the FDA to CDC, um, these people who devote their
- 37:54Speaker 1: lives and who have done this research, whose families are
- 37:57Speaker 1: getting they're getting their families are getting it. And outside
- 38:01Speaker 1: of some crazy not crazy, but I don't I just
- 38:08Speaker 1: don't know what incentive people would have to not be
- 38:12Speaker 1: truthful about this, and so knowing the research and not
- 38:15Speaker 1: understanding why anyone would want to lie about this. UM,
- 38:18Speaker 1: I trusted because for those reasons. UM. And again, it's
- 38:22Speaker 1: just something that we're not used to. But we've all
- 38:24Speaker 1: gone through. We've all gotten MMR and other vaccines also,
- 38:27Speaker 1: so it's just I guess we still remember it and
- 38:30Speaker 1: again as adults a lot. But um, it's not completely new.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Some people say that doctors have an incentive to have
- 38:39Speaker 1: people get vaccinated, like there's like a monetary incentive you
- 38:43Speaker 1: guys to be proponents for it. What do you have
- 38:45Speaker 1: to say about that? Um? I if if there is,
- 38:50Speaker 1: then I'm missing out because I've not gotten any things
- 38:52Speaker 1: from it. But but no, no, there's no there's no
- 38:56Speaker 1: fiscal incentive for for doctors in any sense. Um. I
- 39:00Speaker 1: think the incentive is we want people to be healthy.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I think the incentive is I think being a healthcare setting,
- 39:05Speaker 1: we don't want to get it, you know, we don't
- 39:07Speaker 1: want to decrease our risk of getting it, and so
- 39:09Speaker 1: UM And obviously incentive is not having to go through
- 39:14Speaker 1: what we went through. Again. I always I wish people
- 39:18Speaker 1: could like I had like a um, some sort of
- 39:21Speaker 1: like Google glass where I could have shown what life
- 39:24Speaker 1: was like when it was really bad and how it
- 39:26Speaker 1: is now and people would just literally turn it on
- 39:29Speaker 1: whenever they want to see the people on ventilators and um, yeah,
- 39:33Speaker 1: just the scene that we all saw healthcare providers during
- 39:37Speaker 1: the height of COVID and how does now And it's
- 39:40Speaker 1: much better post vaccine in most places. Um. And again
- 39:45Speaker 1: it's because of the vaccine, and we are all doing better,
- 39:48Speaker 1: we are all able to kind of get back to
- 39:51Speaker 1: a normal ish way of life in large part because
- 39:54Speaker 1: of the vaccine. And so UM. With the now that
- 39:59Speaker 1: it's at the approved they are off you approved, I
- 40:02Speaker 1: think there's very little reason not to get it. Um.
- 40:06Speaker 1: And there's a great organization I'm working with called the
- 40:08Speaker 1: ad Council UM and they have a great website called
- 40:12Speaker 1: Vaccine Answers dot org that also has answers to questions
- 40:16Speaker 1: that may not be asked right now, but to answer
- 40:19Speaker 1: the very common questions that a lot of people, especially
- 40:21Speaker 1: I don't UM. So I would definitely recommend people check
- 40:24Speaker 1: that out. Okay, final question for you, This is a
- 40:26Speaker 1: personal one for me. Okay, yeah, I you know, I
- 40:31Speaker 1: am fully vaccinated but it took me a little bit
- 40:33Speaker 1: of time because I wanted to learn about it as
- 40:35Speaker 1: best as I possibly could, um, read as much as
- 40:39Speaker 1: I possibly could understand what was being asked of me.
- 40:42Speaker 1: And then I made the personal decision again to say yes,
- 40:44Speaker 1: I I believe I need to get vaccinated. I am
- 40:48Speaker 1: having a hard time, though, UM with the idea of
- 40:51Speaker 1: a booster I am. I I don't UM, maybe because
- 40:54Speaker 1: I don't know enough yet. I haven't learned enough yet,
- 40:56Speaker 1: I haven't read enough yet. There's not enough out there
- 40:57Speaker 1: for me to understand. Who are you at all hesitant?
- 41:01Speaker 1: Or are you all hesitant to get a booster shot?
- 41:04Speaker 1: And what would you say to somebody like me who
- 41:06Speaker 1: is hesitant to get a booster shot? Just because right
- 41:08Speaker 1: now I am not I'm lacking education in it. UM.
- 41:11Speaker 1: And also it just feels odd to me, you know,
- 41:14Speaker 1: like to have to do that, uh And I didn't
- 41:16Speaker 1: expect to have to do that, So it's a little
- 41:17Speaker 1: bit of a shock to me personally. Sure, So right
- 41:22Speaker 1: now the booster is recommended for UM people UH six
- 41:26Speaker 1: sixty five and older who have gotten the shot at
- 41:29Speaker 1: least the second O six months ago. It's for people
- 41:33Speaker 1: who are in settings like healthcare settings or frontline providers
- 41:36Speaker 1: of people who are going to be around a lot
- 41:38Speaker 1: of other people like teachers, who again six months later
- 41:41Speaker 1: after the second shot, these are the people who are eligible,
- 41:44Speaker 1: people who are compromised. UM. So right now it's not
- 41:47Speaker 1: necessarily recommended for people healthy people such as yourselves. UM.
- 41:52Speaker 1: But again, the research shows that antibodies wane after a
- 41:56Speaker 1: certain period of time, and I think that is why,
- 41:59Speaker 1: and I think they the idea is that this booster
- 42:02Speaker 1: shot will decrease even those few breakthrough infections that we're having,
- 42:06Speaker 1: will help decrease even those few numbers again to reach
- 42:09Speaker 1: the herd immunity. UM. But what exactly I would ask
- 42:12Speaker 1: you is what what about it is UM is concerning
- 42:16Speaker 1: to you. Well, I can't say the booster is concerning
- 42:20Speaker 1: to me because I don't know if it is or not.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I'd say with the first one, and maybe people call
- 42:25Speaker 1: me a win for this, UM. That's okay, I get it.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I wanted to to see how people reacted to it,
- 42:32Speaker 1: like I wanted to see what it was. I want
- 42:34Speaker 1: to understand more of like what I was agreeing to
- 42:37Speaker 1: UM and what I was putting in my body and
- 42:39Speaker 1: so part of that was understanding the research behind it,
- 42:43Speaker 1: Understanding uh, you know, the symptoms from the shot, understanding
- 42:48Speaker 1: how people were reacting to it. And then I felt, Okay, yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I can I can do this thing. You know, I
- 42:52Speaker 1: want to do this. I willingly want to do this.
- 42:55Speaker 1: But the booster I just don't know enough yet. And
- 42:57Speaker 1: that's why I want to ask you, because when I
- 42:59Speaker 1: don't know enough about some thing, I don't want to blindly,
- 43:01Speaker 1: you know, step into it. Um. And maybe that's the
- 43:03Speaker 1: part that's most concerning is I just don't know enough.
- 43:06Speaker 1: And that's why I thought, Hey, this is a good
- 43:07Speaker 1: moment I ask a doctor. Yeah, it's um. You know,
- 43:10Speaker 1: it's the same as the other essentially the same as
- 43:12Speaker 1: the other vaccines, So if you've gotten the first two,
- 43:14Speaker 1: then it's gonna be um. You should feel about the
- 43:18Speaker 1: same after the booster. UM. And I just think, as
- 43:23Speaker 1: far as I am happy that you did your due diligence,
- 43:27Speaker 1: your research on the vaccine and how it works, it
- 43:30Speaker 1: is not that easy to try to make a couple
- 43:32Speaker 1: of videos to show kind of simplify it a little bit. Um.
- 43:37Speaker 1: But but again, this is going to be kind of
- 43:39Speaker 1: like a like a weird. Why the kind of perspective,
- 43:44Speaker 1: But I I don't know how my car works. I
- 43:48Speaker 1: don't know my refrigerator works. And I still trust that
- 43:52Speaker 1: the refrigerants used in refrigerator don't create a carcinogetic environment
- 43:57Speaker 1: for my food. And I think I leave that to
- 44:00Speaker 1: the experts to do that. And the people who developed
- 44:04Speaker 1: a vaccine, the people who studied it and made sure
- 44:06Speaker 1: they were safe, the doctor should administer it. Um the
- 44:10Speaker 1: whole system around it are the same people who developed
- 44:12Speaker 1: pilonal antibiotics and and every other medication you've taken. It's
- 44:16Speaker 1: the same process that went through it. And so these
- 44:19Speaker 1: are working again similar to the Bastel nations. You have
- 44:22Speaker 1: trust the process and and and unless people have the
- 44:27Speaker 1: wherewithal too um have that medical training or that research training,
- 44:32Speaker 1: that scientific background, it's hard to understand it. But that's
- 44:36Speaker 1: where again in this society, we just trust that our
- 44:39Speaker 1: car is gonna work, that I won't explode when we
- 44:40Speaker 1: turn the ignition on that that the engineers know enough
- 44:45Speaker 1: that when I'm on my balcony it won't fall down.
- 44:46Speaker 1: And so in the same way, I think, and again
- 44:49Speaker 1: that's not medical specific, but that's just I think, um,
- 44:53Speaker 1: how have you? But again it's not like people our age,
- 44:58Speaker 1: you need to be going out and getting a boosters
- 45:00Speaker 1: not So let's just uh. And now I thought of
- 45:05Speaker 1: one other Why would people who already have UM the
- 45:11Speaker 1: antibodies from having actual COVID have to get the vaccine
- 45:15Speaker 1: Because aren't the antibodies from having actual COVID even stronger
- 45:19Speaker 1: than the vaccine? So that's also another question. So the
- 45:22Speaker 1: antibody still wayne after after a period of time, and
- 45:25Speaker 1: so it's more just getting UM. And also the response,
- 45:29Speaker 1: we know how our body responds to the vaccine and
- 45:33Speaker 1: how our body responds to a natural infection is still
- 45:36Speaker 1: it's variable, depending on a lot of things, a lot
- 45:39Speaker 1: of again like polymorphous, there's a lot of variables that
- 45:42Speaker 1: go into how we respond, our bodies responded. The vaccine
- 45:46Speaker 1: essentially is the control, but we know how ABOUTY responds
- 45:49Speaker 1: by looking at me initially now it's more than that
- 45:53Speaker 1: or initially but now it's more than that. UM people
- 45:56Speaker 1: that were that were studied in both the fives and
- 45:58Speaker 1: EMMA during a trials, so we know that we know
- 46:02Speaker 1: how effective it is in across different ages, sexes, races, people,
- 46:08Speaker 1: different diseases, and that's not true necessary for natural infections.
- 46:12Speaker 1: And so again one antibiuze wayne depending on when you
- 46:15Speaker 1: had it, and to the reaction to the vaccine is
- 46:19Speaker 1: more control and more studied, more understood on a wider
- 46:22Speaker 1: population versus any individual reaction. Okay, but I had chicken
- 46:27Speaker 1: pox as a first grader and now I don't have
- 46:30Speaker 1: to get it. And now I've never gotten a chicken
- 46:32Speaker 1: pox vaccine because I had it. So how is that
- 46:34Speaker 1: any different? So the type of the virus, it's a
- 46:38Speaker 1: Varicella zoster virus, it's a it's a little different. Um.
- 46:42Speaker 1: They don't mutate nearly as quickly a coronavirus is mutate.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Let's will be one variable and the other thing about
- 46:49Speaker 1: like boosters and things that there's one man's meeting, but
- 46:52Speaker 1: I think there probably might be other boosters on the
- 46:54Speaker 1: line as coronavirus mutating. But the coronavirus is also a
- 46:57Speaker 1: very different type of virus. And so the way um
- 47:01Speaker 1: like that has a spike protein that mutates a lot,
- 47:04Speaker 1: and so it is just how it's constructed is very different.
- 47:08Speaker 1: And so there are there are measles muns, fabella where
- 47:10Speaker 1: you can only get it. You know, you only need
- 47:12Speaker 1: it once and or maybe a booster later on if
- 47:14Speaker 1: you work in healthcare setting, but generally only need it
- 47:16Speaker 1: once because they don't need too very rapidly, and some do,
- 47:19Speaker 1: and so that's part of it. It's probably like the
- 47:22Speaker 1: flu shot, where like I've had the flu before, but
- 47:24Speaker 1: I also get a flu shot every year because the
- 47:26Speaker 1: strain is different exactly. There. There are some types of
- 47:29Speaker 1: viruses and honestly the most successful viruses that just mutate
- 47:33Speaker 1: very quickly, and uh, they're just built different. And so yeah, also, well, Joe,
- 47:39Speaker 1: you're built different, You're built well. I'm proud of you. Man. Hey,
- 47:43Speaker 1: thanks for coming on, Thanks for asking or answering our
- 47:45Speaker 1: tough questions. We rapid fire them at you. But I
- 47:48Speaker 1: don't know, I can't think of many guys that we'd
- 47:51Speaker 1: rather ask these questions too than you. Considering you spend
- 47:54Speaker 1: your quarantine reading, learning Spanish, playing music and working out
- 47:59Speaker 1: if that and say something about you, I don't know
- 48:02Speaker 1: what will. Hey, Dr Joe, thanks for joining Almost Famous
- 48:04Speaker 1: podcast today. We appreciate you. Thank you guys. Always a pleasure,
- 48:09Speaker 1: always great talking to you guys, and um, yeah, thanks
- 48:11Speaker 1: so much for having me and letting me part of

- 48:27Speaker 1: they said it's like three hours, which three Oh my goodness. Um,
- 48:32Speaker 1: But we're gonna break it down here on The Almost
- 48:33Speaker 1: Famous Podcast next week. Against stay tuned for a future
- 48:37Speaker 1: breakdown of Michelle Young's men. Uh they're her suitors have
- 48:41Speaker 1: been revealed. We're gonna break it down, talk about it,
- 48:43Speaker 1: make our first assumptions and judgments. It's always my favorite
- 48:46Speaker 1: time because I can do it and feel like I
- 48:47Speaker 1: don't get in trouble for it, because this is kind
- 48:49Speaker 1: of like a given. Anyways, it's blind. It's blind. We
- 48:52Speaker 1: have no clue what we're talking about. Anyways, Hey, I've
- 48:54Speaker 1: been been. We'll talk soon. Follow the Ben and Ashley
