- 1:03What is up everybody? You already know what it is.
- 1:06I am your lovely host Simone. And I'm the peace and welcome
- 1:09back to. I was thinking I saw more cheery
- 1:14than I usually do when we do this.
- 1:16It's been a while guys. Yeah, hopefully this doesn't
- 1:20come into a once a month. Think we also have real lives
- 1:26and we don't get paid to do this, but we miss you.
- 1:30So we're back. We hope you've missed us as
- 1:32well. How's it been to be since you've
- 1:35been? I mean, it's only been on has it
- 1:38been. I think it's been longer than a
- 1:39month because when we initially recorded it was May 12th.
- 1:44Was it? May, I think it's been about a
- 1:46month. Yeah, a little bit more than a
- 1:48month. Yeah, I've been good school,
- 1:52finished good. Graduations have happened.
- 1:56Lot of drama related to that graduation, but hey, we're done.
- 1:59Oh my God. You know, I was curious because
- 2:02there's been a lot of, like videos that's been popping up
- 2:05online of, like, graduations just have, like students have
- 2:09been having their diplomas withheld if they're like
- 2:11celebrating after graduations. And I was like, what is going
- 2:20on? I feel like I saw a video of a
- 2:15fight, and I don't know what that happened, but I saw that.
- 2:20I do not remember graduation being this like, drama field.
- 2:24Yeah. I don't know.
- 2:25It was so weird because my sister also graduated this year
- 2:29and for her graduation, mind you, they are like the
- 2:34graduating classes around like 750 to 800 kids.
- 2:37They were not allowed to have their cell phones like at all.
- 2:40So just trying to get in touch with her and like, finding her
- 2:43afterwards was like so chaotic. And like, I felt like I was an
- 2:47amusement park trying to find my lost child.
- 2:49Yeah. But that was that which was I
- 2:53understand. Why they did that?
- 2:55Because it's a long procession and you don't want it'll.
- 2:58It seems unprofessional to be on your phone but that was
- 3:01annoying. But the graduation for my like
- 3:05class that I taught was it went relatively smoothly.
- 3:08But that's probably because like the principal was like really on
- 3:12their cases like if you do anything I'm going to stop the
- 3:15graduation, call you up by name and make you go back and do it
- 3:18again and like. So he really scared them as far
- 3:21as like. What to do and what not to do.
- 3:23But it turned out really, really good.
- 3:25That's good for you guys. Like, I always remember
- 3:27graduation being, like strict, but not, that's, yeah,
- 3:32unnecessarily strict where it almost takes the joy out of it.
- 3:36It's weird. I don't know.
- 3:37And you know, I didn't go to a college graduation because
- 3:40COVID. So I skipped out my communicate,
- 3:43not my communication, my Community College one, because I
- 3:47was waiting for university and then COVID happened.
- 3:49So I didn't get to experience either.
- 3:52But still. Yeah, it's so different from
- 3:53last year's graduation because last year, like, I would stand
- 3:57at the end of the seats and I'd like hug everyone as they come
- 3:59in to go back to their seats. Nothing like that.
- 4:01They had to, like, grab their things and go straight back to
- 4:04their seat. I'm like, no, that takes away
- 4:07from, like, the intimacy of it, you know?
- 4:08Yeah, I mean, there was so many students when I graduated.
- 4:10I don't remember the exact number, but we didn't hug
- 4:13anybody unless, like they'd known them personally throughout
- 4:16the school year. We just shook hands, but.
- 4:18Yeah. Oh my gosh.
- 4:19There were so many hands these kids had to shake.
- 4:22It was like there's a literal line down that entire stage.
- 4:26There was probably like a two person gap in the middle.
- 4:28But like, after that, it was just everyone and their mother
- 4:31was on that stage. It was so funny.
- 4:33That's crazy. Well, I'm glad you didn't have
- 4:34any crazy like graduation stores like I have been seeing online.
- 4:38Yeah, no, nothing. Nothing like that.
- 4:40Whatever drama I was mentioning was like.
- 4:43Before and after, between like people.
- 4:46But like the graduation ceremony itself, thank God, was like,
- 4:50smooth, good, good. Yeah, I forgot to say this
- 4:54before we actually started recording.
- 4:55I apologize. It's like my audio sounds worse
- 4:59than it usually does. It's actually pretty good.
- 5:01But I'm going back, old school style, and recording on my iPad
- 5:05because I had said this in like a little interlude in our last
- 5:08episode. When I moved, I thought I lost
- 5:11my adapter to hook up my microphone to my MacBook.
- 5:15And then me and the Feast were laughing before we started
- 5:17recording because I literally just found it in the bag that I
- 5:22zinc. So I'm like, well, I'm glad I
- 5:25didn't pay for a new one, but I spent about, I don't know how
- 5:29long looking for it, thinking I had lost it or accidentally, you
- 5:32know, put it in a bag that I gave away and we were cleaning.
- 5:35But it's fine. You paid for it with your
- 5:37energy. That I did.
- 5:40That I did. But anyway, as you can see, we
- 5:43have something to actually talk about today.
- 5:45It's not just a ramble episode, even though you know us, we
- 5:47don't think it's a lot, but we are back with a movie.
- 5:51Reviews get back into the groove of things, the swing of things.
- 5:55So should I ask you how you felt about this movie?
- 5:59Now or later? We are doing a movie that is on
- 6:03Netflix called Unlocked. I think I expressed this last
- 6:07time when we recorded with Macy. I don't have access to her
- 6:10Netflix account anymore. But Capitalism, Not me.
- 6:13Yeah, I'm going to admit it. I was weak, guys, and I got my
- 6:16own Netflix account. Capitalism beat me, OK?
- 6:22It beat me this route. It's just this round, hopefully
- 6:25just this round, you know I still have to survive.
- 6:27Yeah, but I mean, you have all that other stuff too.
- 6:31You have Hulu, Disney, you have Disney Plus, right?
- 6:33I have the bundle of Hulu and Disney Plus.
- 6:35So it's like a deal where it's only like $11.00, but that I pay
- 6:39with ads. This one I didn't want to pay
- 6:40for ads on Netflix. Gotcha.
- 6:43So those are the only things I have.
- 6:45I think Hulu, Disney Plus and Netflix, you don't.
- 6:48Have and I guess Apple TV if I have access to it or not.
- 6:54You have to pay for that. Or do you get it when you have
- 6:56Apple products? I think you have to pay
- 6:58separately. I'm not sure you should check
- 6:59into that. Yeah, because I have Apple Music
- 7:02that I have to pay that I still use my student discount on.
- 7:06Actually I might have it because I think if you have like use the
- 7:09student discount, you get Apple TV with the student discount.
- 7:13Yeah, definitely check into that.
- 7:15Imagine you've been paying for it this whole time and you just
- 7:17never knew. I have.
- 7:19But it's like what people have been saying, you know, we have
- 7:21all these subscriptions now and it's just an overwhelming of
- 7:24like content and at the same time, tell me about being taken
- 7:29from us. Every day I sit down with like,
- 7:32my dinner to watch something, right?
- 7:35So I go on like Hulu and I'm just like scrolling and
- 7:38scrolling and scrolling. Nothing makes sense.
- 7:40And then I go to my Amazon Prime.
- 7:42And I'm scrolling and scrolling and scrolling still nothing
- 7:44makes sense. And then and then I go back to
- 7:46YouTube shorts. It's like, why?
- 7:49Yeah, it's just not only short attention spans, but like
- 7:52streaming really has kill TV culture.
- 7:56That's what's coming up a lot, especially with the writers
- 7:59strike and then try to be paid fairly, and which is still.
- 8:02Going on. And I want it to go on as long
- 8:04as it can. Like I said in the last episode,
- 8:06paying these people their fucking money, Stop playing with
- 8:09them. And then now they're doing a new
- 8:11thing where, and it was happening even before the
- 8:13strike, where they don't give shows enough time to like, you
- 8:18know, grow to improve themselves and if they can.
- 8:22Do it. They completely erase it off the
- 8:26platform, so there's no way you can find.
- 8:28It but about like pirated versions.
- 8:30I don't know how that's working, but even then I'm sure I don't
- 8:34know how, Like corporations, if they're making the effort to go
- 8:38out and look for pilot and stuff and delete them or not.
- 8:40So I don't know. It is unfortunate.
- 8:43It is because that's also, you know, messing with people's
- 8:46payment because they're not getting residuals anymore from
- 8:49people, you know, watching this. And then they get a percentage
- 8:53of like, you know, this is how much people watched it and then
- 8:56like divide it up with money and all that math that I don't know
- 8:59how it works. But still, yeah, it's very sad
- 9:02and I hope this strike class for a while, even if I have to give
- 9:05up a lot of shows, you know, that's fine with me.
- 9:07I want these people to be paid. Yeah, which is funny too,
- 9:10because like they're so quick to cancel shows if it doesn't do
- 9:13well. But for it to do well, you have
- 9:15to have a well written show to begin with, right?
- 9:19The characters need to be nuanced and like, in depth.
- 9:22The story arc needs to be good enough that like it catches your
- 9:25attention from the get go and keep your attention throughout
- 9:28the season. Like there's so many factors
- 9:30that play into it and you're under paying the very people
- 9:33that are running. Quite literally, no pun
- 9:35intended. The whole show like, it's crazy
- 9:37under paying them, not giving them chances to have that
- 9:40breakout script. And if they do get hired,
- 9:43they're working long hours to where they're so tired that
- 9:47creativity is not there and they're on tight budget.
- 9:49So, like, they'll have to make a lot of cuts, not to mention cuts
- 9:52of like, costs. So, like, produce it.
- 9:54It's just a whole thing and another thing.
- 9:56And then we'll get on to the movie, which is interesting
- 9:59because I don't know if I had shared this with you or not.
- 10:01You know how there is a rise of, like, kid dramas and Korean
- 10:05movies coming onto Netflix? Yeah.
- 10:07Did I tell you that Netflix, even before the writers strike,
- 10:10invested a bunch of money into production of, you know, Korean
- 10:14content? And that's why we're seeing so
- 10:16much of it being put on Netflix now and Netflix originals of
- 10:19Korean content? Did I tell you that?
- 10:22I think you mentioned it briefly.
- 10:24OK. Yeah.
- 10:24I was just wondering because I I wonder if they had predicted the
- 10:28right strike in America and that's why they did it.
- 10:31And I wonder how that works with the writers strike.
- 10:34Because I followed this one girl on TikTok who always, like talks
- 10:38about the writers strike because I think she's a writer herself.
- 10:41I don't remember her name at the moment.
- 10:43Maybe I'll link it in like the little comments section if you
- 10:47want to follow her for like details.
- 10:48But she was talking about one time how there were some
- 10:50international, you know, TV writers supporting the strike
- 10:54and like other countries like the UKI think some places in
- 10:57Europe, things like that. So I wonder if like maybe
- 11:01because I watched Korean content, if like Korean contact,
- 11:05especially being with Netflix and hearing all the, you know,
- 11:08back and forth about Netflix internally, how it was just not
- 11:11a great company, even though all these companies to be honest are
- 11:15not great. Again, capitalism.
- 11:17But I was just wondering if they're just going to milk them
- 11:20during this whole writers strike for content or feel like maybe
- 11:25down the line support the writers strike, who knows?
- 11:28That's just was something in my mind as I remembered it.
- 11:32I mean, aren't they technically? Aren't we all technically
- 11:34milking the whole Korean content At this point?
- 11:37Yes. Because, like, as much as I love
- 11:40Korean dramas, a lot of it is like not as original as it used
- 11:46to be. Do you know what I'm saying?
- 11:48I. Mean.
- 11:49It's like at the end of the day, I feel like this with everything
- 11:53and entertainment, whether it's movies, music, things nowadays
- 11:58are going to derive from something because it's very hard
- 12:01to come up with an original idea and most original ideas get
- 12:06passed on. So because people are going to
- 12:08watch something they're more comfortable with than something
- 12:10new, that's why we're having a bunch of remakes.
- 12:12And I felt like this since maybe like maybe the 90s and even the
- 12:1790s was, you know, repeating stuff from the 70s.
- 12:19So I feel like since past the 70s, we really haven't had
- 12:23anything new. If people understand what I mean
- 12:26by new, I just think it's at a point now where it's like, if
- 12:31you don't have an original idea, how are you telling, you know,
- 12:35this borrowed idea in a new way? Yeah, that I think is also
- 12:39important. But it's hard.
- 12:41It's Hard Out Here, OK? That's why we had a lot of book
- 12:46adaptations into like movies and series, and we're getting
- 12:49another one. I know they're going to make
- 12:51another, like Hurricane Hunger Games, sport, Hunger Games movie
- 12:58because she made another book. But that's also different
- 13:01because the author was actually, you know, involved with the
- 13:03movie. So sometimes that helps and
- 13:04sometimes you can tell like, when they're not actually
- 13:06involved or not. So we have things like that and
- 13:09we have like disaster, trash fires, like the idol that I'm
- 13:13not going to get into and that I'm not watching.
- 13:15So and I'm not even gonna bring it up.
- 13:18Even as a Kpop person, I'm not gonna bring it up.
- 13:20I'm not doing it. You did that.
- 13:22Well, I brought it up and I'm not getting into my own
- 13:24discussions with it. I am just avoiding it
- 13:26completely. And I am glad they're not
- 13:28getting renewed. Yeah, ever since the commercials
- 13:33for that show came out, I just knew.
- 13:36It was not gonna go, which is really sad because I don't know
- 13:39if he knew the original plot was to talk about women's struggles,
- 13:43actually Hollywood, and then men had to take over.
- 13:46Yes, they had. They had fired the original
- 13:48writers of that show and then a certain very, very popular
- 13:52person. OK, I didn't want to say it, but
- 13:55no, I don't care. Fuck, he's creepy.
- 13:58Hey man. Revet like 3180, the whole
- 14:02thing. And like, it's now what we see.
- 14:05I didn't realize he was that like, Oh my God, not just him,
- 14:08but the creator guy himself, Sam Levenson, who also recreated
- 14:12euphoria. And if you've seen euphoria, I
- 14:15mean. Oh, no, I didn't have to see
- 14:16euphoria. My kids talked about.
- 14:18My students talked about it enough for me to know.
- 14:20Like, no. Watched it and then they
- 14:23completely derailed from the second season because I feel
- 14:25like even the first season was going somewhere to talk about
- 14:28some real shit. But after the second season and
- 14:31then just hearing about the behind scenes drama that was
- 14:34happening, the calf and him himself, it's just like, just
- 14:37cancel it. OK, just cancel it.
- 14:39Loves and Daya so. Euphoria is canceled.
- 14:41No, they're pushed. I said I think it needs to be
- 14:45canceled. They have been pushed back, you
- 14:47know, because of the writers strike.
- 14:49So I think the season three was supposed to come out next year,
- 14:53but I don't know if they even started filming it or not so.
- 14:56Gotcha. We'll see.
- 14:57I don't know. And then, yeah, a lot of people
- 14:59were talking about Jenny in the show.
- 15:01And then some of them were like, what?
- 15:02She's an adult, she can do what she wants.
- 15:04But then the other side was just like, but she has children
- 15:06following her. So it's like, again, that is the
- 15:09thing for me where I can talk about this for the whole episode
- 15:12and we don't have time because that also goes into my thing
- 15:15with like Kpop in general and like the culture differences
- 15:20between international fans and Korean fans.
- 15:23Or like I don't have time to get into it.
- 15:26I would like to because I have a lot of things to say about both
- 15:29sides, what I understand, but I am on the point of she is a
- 15:34grown woman. I don't like how she and other K
- 15:37pop idols, you know, are in infantilized.
- 15:42But at the same time it is a weird market where they say it's
- 15:45you know, geared towards kids and teens.
- 15:48But if you actually look at these idols and what they sing
- 15:50about, sometimes even the minors themselves and what they dress
- 15:54in, because I remember so one on TikTok that I follow said that.
- 15:58And I was like, I guess the difference in America is like we
- 16:01have content for kids. Like I know Korea has like shows
- 16:05and stuff gears specifically for kids, but we even had musicians
- 16:09for kids. That's why I like that era of
- 16:11Disney Channel where like Hannah Montana was popular.
- 16:14You had the Jonas Brothers on there, other stuff that's
- 16:18different because of behind, behind the scenes.
- 16:20But I'm just saying, like, even when I was younger, we had the
- 16:22Wiggles, we had Doodle Bob, we had stuff geared for us.
- 16:27That's actually a really good point you brought up.
- 16:30Yeah, cuz now that I think about it, I don't think like in well,
- 16:34I can't speak on the country obviously, but like from my from
- 16:37my experience with like their like entertainment and
- 16:40everything. They don't have like teenager,
- 16:43like teenage singers or like teenage artists, so I can see
- 16:46why idols, but they make them. Right.
- 16:49But it's not like, it's not like, I mean, yeah, you have
- 16:52like the idols, but then it's not like their own thing.
- 16:55You know what? Like, you know how we have
- 16:56Disney? Like, yeah, it's not like that
- 16:58exactly. And I think that's why a lot of
- 17:00people like new jeans so much because again, a lot of stuff
- 17:03that's going on in the background that I can't even
- 17:05talk about. But it seems like their content
- 17:08is more like their age friend and that's what I am praised
- 17:14about TXT. When they had first debut, it's
- 17:16like when they first debut, it was like, you know, the teenage
- 17:20boy type music. It fit the appropriateness of
- 17:23their age. Now that they're getting older,
- 17:25they're making music. Except for their cat dog song.
- 17:27Still don't like that one, but hey, I'm not going to talk
- 17:30because I love Cat. Let's.
- 17:31Die forever. I just want to be your dog.
- 17:34I would you want to be. Somebody's pet, but OK.
- 17:36Anyway, stop thinking too much into it.
- 17:40But that is a valid point you have.
- 17:42I understand. I am biased, I will admit,
- 17:44because that's my song. It's catchy.
- 17:46I'm not going to lie, but like Hello lyrics anyway, that's what
- 17:50I mean. They're they have been given the
- 17:52opportunity to grow with their music.
- 17:54It's not too grown, you know. I mean they're grown now.
- 17:58So and then that was another thing with like Card and stuff
- 18:01when they were talking about Bm's like verses like, but you
- 18:05you guys know how old Card is. And BM has been talking about
- 18:08stuff like this, like many people point out.
- 18:10Listen to his verse with Jesse on putting on you.
- 18:13I love that verse by the way. But yeah.
- 18:16Anyway, again tangent guys, we're done because like I said,
- 18:2020 minutes just on that. But hey, it should be the its
- 18:24own separate episode. Right, we're gonna wad Lord Hey
- 18:34y'all. I just wanted to come in real
- 18:35quick because I had mentioned new jeans, and in mentioning
- 18:39them I had completely forgot about the song Cookie.
- 18:45And there's reason I try to etch that out of my brain for if you
- 18:49know, you know. But it also goes into what I was
- 18:52talking about. As in whether promoting to young
- 18:56people or having young idols themselves say they're promoting
- 19:01for kids and teenagers, but then in the same act, like
- 19:05underlyingly, like secretly promoting stuff that's a little
- 19:08bit too grown in my opinion. Well, no, Things are a little
- 19:13bit too grown for children and teenagers.
- 19:16But yes, I just wanted to come in and point that out real quick
- 19:19because we're recording. I had completely forgot about
- 19:21that song, and I think they also tried to pretend it didn't
- 19:24happen, but we know it happened. Just make sure it doesn't happen
- 19:28again. Tell us about the movie Simone.
- 19:32So getting back on track. We are doing Unlocked, which is
- 19:36a Netflix Original. The English title is unlocked.
- 19:41I wrote down the Korean title. I'm practicing guys.
- 19:44Again, excuse my pronunciation, I am trying.
- 19:47But the Korean title for this movie is Smart to Pono Duro Soul
- 19:54Boonan Day, Boonan Day. Yes, that's the Korean title.
- 20:01Now I am confused about the actual release date because when
- 20:04I go online it says it was released in February like either
- 20:0816 or 17 of this year. But I think Netflix says 2022.
- 20:14So was it released this year or was it released last year, in
- 20:182022? Here's the thing.
- 20:19I remember seeing that movie for a very long time, and I didn't
- 20:24have Netflix in February, so I'm pretty sure it was like earlier.
- 20:28So it was February 2022, not 2023.
- 20:31Probably. I'm not sure.
- 20:32I don't know why every site I went on said it was released
- 20:36this year. All of the sites I've seen says
- 20:3823 too. So I I'm not, I'm not sure.
- 20:41But on Netflix, cuz you know on Netflix it shows like years and
- 20:44say when it was released, but it shows the year it says 2022.
- 20:47I don't, I don't know, it was released recently guys.
- 20:50OK one of these years. Recent enough?
- 20:53Yes, recent enough. So I am going to give the
- 20:57background, you know, information of this movie and
- 21:00then me and the fees divided it up.
- 21:24So you don't care. So she's going to discuss the
- 21:04first half of it and I'm going to do the second-half again.
- 21:07When we do movie reviews, we spoil everything.
- 21:10So after I give you know, the synopsis, synopsis, synopsis,
- 21:15OK, synopsis and the cast, if y'all want to jump out, watch
- 21:19the movie, they come back. You can do that if you just want
- 21:23to listen to. Feel for free.
- 21:27So the synopsis is the main character, whose name is Inami.
- 21:34She's a marketer at a startup company, and she also, I
- 21:37believe, works part time at a father's cafe, Correct?
- 21:40She helps him out. I don't know if she technically
- 21:42just works there or she just helps out, but she ends up
- 21:45losing her phone, going home from a night out with friends,
- 21:48and then suddenly it gets returned to her by.
- 21:50I put in my notes with quotation marks, an unknown Good
- 21:53Samaritan, however unknown to eat on, eat on me.
- 21:57The person whose name is Lujun Yong, who found her phone that
- 22:01the audience knows about, had actually installed spyware to
- 22:04watch her every move and track her everyday life.
- 22:07And then at the same time, all that is happening.
- 22:09A police detective named Uji Man is investigating a murder crime
- 22:15where he found traces of his son, who is who?
- 22:17John Young who found Idami's cell phone at the scene.
- 22:22So like, he's basically looking for clues to see if his son is
- 22:26the killer or not. Because in this specific area,
- 22:29like in the mountain area, they've just been finding body
- 22:31after body after body. So yeah, it's some serious
- 22:35stuff's going on. So yeah, it's basically like a
- 22:38thriller. What do you consider this movie
- 22:40a thriller? I would consider it a thriller.
- 22:42Yeah, OK. Because it's not really, like,
- 22:44scary. It's not.
- 22:45Yeah. Yes, it's not at all.
- 22:47But yeah, it's, you know, it has murder in it.
- 22:49So I guess a lot of things murderers consider a thriller.
- 22:52I would. Consider it a softer version of
- 22:54a thriller. Honestly, OK, I don't.
- 22:56I don't know if there's a word for that because.
- 22:58It's not like, it's not like at the edge of your seat type like,
- 23:01Oh my God, what's gonna happen next?
- 23:03But like, it keeps your, it keeps your attention.
- 23:05Yeah, I would say the same okay. So the director of this movie,
- 23:09his name is Kim Tae Jun and then he also wrote this movie.
- 23:13So he's credited as being the writer Kim Tae Jun and another
- 23:17person called Akira Shiga. Now just to get not sidetracked
- 23:23it, but to get some information on Akidishika.
- 23:27So they are a Japanese author. Which is funny that we talked
- 23:31about this earlier in The Fees who was credited in this movie
- 23:34because it seems like from the information that I got, it's
- 23:37loosely based off a novel they wrote called Stolen Identity
- 23:40that was published in 2017 in Japan.
- 23:44And then surprisingly enough, there are actually 2 Japanese
- 23:47movies based off this novel as well, which is also called
- 23:51Stolen Identity that came out in 2018 and then a sequel to that
- 23:55Stolen Identity two that came out in 2020 and then in the
- 24:00Japanese movies. I just gave you like a quick
- 24:04description of that that I found from Asian Wiki.
- 24:07I like using Asian Wiki from my notes, but the main character is
- 24:10Asami Enaba and she basically starts having you know the
- 24:15typical when you get hacked or like your identity gets stolen.
- 24:18Like there are mysterious charges to her credit card but
- 24:22due to her boyfriend losing his cell phone which I think is
- 24:25interesting and then she somehow gets involved in the case.
- 24:29So I'm not sure if the case is like a murder case or not, but
- 24:32that's the description of stolen identity.
- 24:36That actually sounds interesting.
- 24:37Yeah, Akita, she got is credited in those three movies.
- 24:41So Stolen Identity, Stolen Infinity 2, and in this movie
- 24:44we're talking about Unlock and then the cast members we have
- 24:48our main character, her name is Evami and the actress that plays
- 24:53her is Trone. Oh Trone Ohi.
- 24:56And then our main guy is Ojun Young who I just wrote Stalker
- 25:02because I guess that's what he basically is, is soccer and he
- 25:05is played by M she Juan and I don't know people he.
- 25:11Does the psychopath Crazy guy So, so, well, so obviously you
- 25:16could tell. I I mean, I watch can't
- 25:18troubles, but like, I guess I don't watch enough to recognize
- 25:21the actors enough. Yeah.
- 25:23By the way, he's gonna be in squid games too.
- 25:27I was going to bring that up but it seems like you know that
- 25:29already. Yes, as the fee said, he is
- 25:32going to be in the new season of squid games, which I still don't
- 25:36understand if I am excited for or not.
- 25:39Just cuz I feel like a second season of squid games, like
- 25:42completely goes against what the first season was technically
- 25:46about what? They did well with the new cast.
- 25:50I just hope the storyline is like, up there too.
- 25:53I mean, we will see when it comes out.
- 25:56I also wonder if Netflix is going to release that, like
- 25:58reality show that they did off the squid games where they got,
- 26:01you know, 456 contestants sick and pee for $456,000,000.
- 26:07Fingers crossed. Yeah, we'll see about that.
- 26:10Too. I would actually like to watch
- 26:11that if they ever decide to release it, I think they're
- 26:14going to. But again, we will see it goes
- 26:16into. I feel like it goes against what
- 26:18the show was supposed to be about.
- 26:19But then again, that's how capitalism works.
- 26:21So. I mean, that's why we have a
- 26:24season two. Yeah, exactly.
- 26:30Hey guys, just wanted to come in real quick because I did mention
- 26:35Squid Game and I didn't know why.
- 26:38They were making another season, ironically enough, and I think
- 26:43it was after we initially recorded this too.
- 26:46The Los Angeles Times put on an article about Squid game two
- 26:50because, you know, it's a big thing right now, an anticipation
- 26:52of the second season, learning about the cast.
- 26:55One of the actors, as we mentioned that's in this movie
- 26:59is going to be in the new season, and so on and so forth.
- 27:03I think the full cast by now has been revealed.
- 27:07I don't actually know when the second season is going to drop.
- 27:10I don't know if they said that or not, but regardless.
- 27:12So I basically found out, if you didn't already know, that the
- 27:16reason they're making another season is because the original
- 27:22creator of Squid Games basically gave up all of his rights for
- 27:28the show. So we initially let me not say
- 27:33it this way. So Netflix did pay him of
- 27:35course, to be able to produce the show and have it on Netflix.
- 27:40And I don't know if anyone knew this or not, but he's been
- 27:42fighting late for a while. I think it's a 10 years for
- 27:46someone just to put this out, but no one in like South Korea,
- 27:50The South Korean companies really believe in this project
- 27:53or that it would do good. So it took him a while.
- 27:56Again, I think I read 10 years like a while ago when the first
- 28:00season came out, but he gave up his initial rights as far as
- 28:07residuals and copyright infringement for squid game.
- 28:13So after it was released and Netflix paid him up front,
- 28:16whatever the show like garnished from streaming, he did not get
- 28:21paid at all. Hence why he's making another
- 28:24season to kind of get paid. Now if you know anything about
- 28:28TV, even if he didn't study it like I did and my mind like
- 28:33honestly, I forgot a lot that I learned in school.
- 28:35Maybe because I'm not in the practice either, but usually
- 28:39residuals is where most actors, writers, directors get paid.
- 28:44If you don't know what that means, it basically means you
- 28:46know how when cable was really big and you would see a lot of
- 28:50reruns. Every time they would rerun that
- 28:53show or movie, that is how they got paid.
- 28:56Again is being shown on cable. So basically every time someone
- 29:01watched Squid Game on Netflix, he did not get paid.
- 29:04He got paid some type of sum upfront for the licensing.
- 29:08But that was it. I didn't think I was going to be
- 29:10able to read the LA Times because I thought I was going to
- 29:13have to pay for a subscription, but surprisingly I was able to
- 29:16read it. So I just got done reading the
- 29:19article. If you're able to read it, I
- 29:20will link it at the bottom. Done by Max Kim.
- 29:23So a Korean writer themselves, it was actually very well done.
- 29:28That is just crazy because in the article itself it said that
- 29:31not only the squid game and I know I think that came out
- 29:34around the pandemic, right? Not only did it really revive
- 29:37Netflix, they made let let me go back to the article.
- 29:42So I make sure I get this number right because I don't want to
- 29:46give a wrong number, but it's a shit ton of money that they made
- 29:50off of this because you know, they made that reality show
- 29:53which I don't know if they're going to put out.
- 29:56You know, Funko pops a bunch of other merch.
- 29:59It was very huge. Did squid thing come out in 2020
- 30:03or 2021? I really don't remember.
- 30:05Again, my mind I'm losing it these days.
- 30:08Okay because he pitched it to them in 2019 and it looks like
- 30:12they spent 2.4 million each episode to make it, which
- 30:17according to this article is about 1/4 of what they spent on
- 30:20Stranger Things. Oh, here it is.
- 30:23Thanks to that. So here it is.
- 30:25So thanks to Squid Game, it raised Netflix's value for
- 30:30company by an estimate of $900 million.
- 30:36Let me repeat that number, $900 million.
- 30:41That's an insane amount of money, right?
- 30:44Again, a number of percent. A price I'll never see in my God
- 30:49damn life, Honestly. But yet, because the next
- 30:52paragraph I'll I'll quote it so it says in his contract he had
- 30:55forfeited all intellectual property rights and received no
- 30:59residuals. Royalty payments that writers,
- 31:01directors and actors normally receive when their work is
- 31:03reused after initial broadcast. He said in an interview that
- 31:06Squid game had earned him quote enough to put food on the table,
- 31:11Sir. You also deserve to be.
- 31:14No you deserve to earn money. I'm glad it was enough to put
- 31:18food on your table, but you should have been paid 10 times
- 31:23more, especially what we know now.
- 31:26Like if anyone that is listening to me is a creative themselves
- 31:32and plans to try to make whatever type of creative you
- 31:37are. Whether that's music, making
- 31:39movies, short films, social media, like artwork, as far as
- 31:45like museums, hand drawing, animation, whatever, please
- 31:49please please, I'm begging all, Even if you cannot afford it,
- 31:53hopefully go online and just find a way to take some type of
- 31:57business class. So that way if you ever get
- 32:01approached by a big company, I don't care what the company is,
- 32:04where it is in the world, you are able to at least understand
- 32:08the basics of a contract. Sometimes you do need a lawyer
- 32:11to get involved because companies try to slide in a lot
- 32:15of things that the average normal person does not
- 32:18understand. All they see usually are dollar
- 32:20amounts and that's why they agree to them.
- 32:22But please, any type of business class and a degree in business
- 32:28so you can try to understand what you're signing because
- 32:32that's where a lot of artists and creatives usually get
- 32:36screwed over at the end. You see it all the time and it
- 32:39is still happening. Example I can give of my
- 32:42favorite artists, Megan Stallion, what she had to go
- 32:45through her company. But again, this is not an old
- 32:47thing. There are many other famous
- 32:50people who are known for being screwed over through contracts,
- 32:53especially in music. Music I think is the worst out
- 32:55of all of them. They're all bad, but I think
- 32:58music is worse, even worse than TV and like movies because they
- 33:03really will find any way to just make money.
- 33:06That's what they're there for, that is what they're there for.
- 33:08But just make sure you are not getting screwed over as well.
- 33:12That's the thing too. Like you're dealing with a
- 33:15company. They don't care about the
- 33:17creative side like you do. All they care about is making a
- 33:20profit. They need you in order to make a
- 33:23profit. So just make sure they don't use
- 33:27you and throw you out. You know what I'm saying?
- 33:28I'm rambling a little bit, but just the article baffled me a
- 33:32lot because another thing and then I'll go, they started
- 33:35actually getting it to the way Korea produces like the dramas,
- 33:39which is what they're known for. It actually brought up what I
- 33:41was talking about, how Netflix has been getting a lot of Korean
- 33:46dramas and putting it on their site.
- 33:49Another paragraph from the article right here that I can
- 33:52read to you guys again, I will link this.
- 33:54Hopefully you're able to read it without needing a subscription,
- 33:57and I'll link another article that linked me to this one so I
- 34:00was able to read it, but this paragraph says the 1:30 or so
- 34:05South Korean productions. Sorry guys, I can't read.
- 34:08Apparently including 52 Netflix originals already rival the
- 34:12company's library of original Spanish language programs.
- 34:15Netflix, which estimates that 60% of its 230 million
- 34:19subscribers have watched Korean titles, announced it would be
- 34:22investing in additional 2.5 billion billion with the B in
- 34:27South Korean content over the next four years.
- 34:30And that's what I was telling the Feast about, because I had
- 34:32heard that news before the writers strike happened in
- 34:35America. And I don't know if that was
- 34:37because they were predicting A writers strike here in America
- 34:41or just because like I said, office squid games.
- 34:44And probably even before that with the popularity of Parasite
- 34:46and At Winning and Oscar, they saw the feature in South Korean
- 34:51content. But what I was saying before is
- 34:53that they started going a little bit into detail about South
- 34:56Korea and how they make their dramas and what they have to go
- 34:59through. And after reading that, if
- 35:02anyone from South Korea is listening, you guys need to go
- 35:06on strike as well. I'm just saying and listen.
- 35:10As a K Pop fan, I have an annoyance every time I read
- 35:15articles talking about the dark side of K Pop.
- 35:19But most of the time they bring that up to try to downplay why
- 35:24so many people like it. Trying to be like, Oh well, you
- 35:27guys like K Pop because it's tell you this and that fantasy.
- 35:30But do you know the real dark side of it?
- 35:32Which they're not wrong when they talk about the dark side of
- 35:36K Pop, I'm using quotes. I know you can't see me because
- 35:40some of it is true and some of it is stuff we will not know.
- 35:43The part that annoys me is every time they're so quick to point
- 35:47out the dark side of something, especially in a different
- 35:50country when you won't part the dark side of things that are
- 35:53happening in your own backyard. Because I promise you, the
- 35:56things that are happening behind the scenes in the American
- 35:59entertainment industry are probably just as dark or darker.
- 36:04But like I said in our last episode, we are really great at
- 36:08hiding it. I keep saying I have to applaud
- 36:11Hollywood for the audacity of making people think.
- 36:14Everybody and anybody that works in the industry are happy and
- 36:19rich and live in like 10 story benches on the hill of like
- 36:23Beverly Hills and or something. I don't know.
- 36:25I've never been to Beverly Hills.
- 36:26I really don't know what it looks like, but you get what I'm
- 36:28saying. So yeah, again, I'm going to
- 36:31link it so you can read it yourself because it's really a
- 36:33lot. And I already know Korea has
- 36:37some very extreme labor laws and I remember they were trying to
- 36:42push the work week to like 70 hours I think instead of the
- 36:47normal like 55, which is already or is it 60?
- 36:50I can't remember. I just know it's more than the
- 36:52US, which is 40 and we have some pretty strict labor laws.
- 36:56Well, let me not say that either because that also gets tricky.
- 37:00But still, yeah, listen, if the South Korean entertainment and
- 37:06like dramas and stuff or even K Pop, if y'all do decide you want
- 37:10to go on strike and I'm talking about like the writers, the
- 37:12camera people, the people that do the lighting, you know, the
- 37:14people that not everyone else thinks about, they're too
- 37:17worried about like the actors. If y'all want to go on strike,
- 37:21I'm all here for it. And Korean dramas.
- 37:23And in K Pop I support the little people.
- 37:26I think my theme for 2023 is pay these people their fucking
- 37:30money. Well, let's get back to two
- 37:32talking about the movie because this rant was very, very long.
- 37:35But I needed to say that. So I hope I don't even want to
- 37:39say this because I know how shady of a company like Netflix
- 37:42is, because in the article it even says they discuss more
- 37:46seasons so he can try to get the residual pay.
- 37:50It says it in this article and I I really don't believe that.
- 37:53But we'll see. I'll never know how much because
- 37:56it doesn't say how much they actually paid him either.
- 37:59It said that they usually give writers like a let me find the
- 38:03amount too. So I don't lie to you.
- 38:06Well, you can read it yourself, but I think this is through
- 38:09Netflix and this is a Korean producer, but they quoted
- 38:12someone that said they were paid 3400 a month for dramas.
- 38:19But I thought I read somewhere that there were paid a lump sum
- 38:24upfront, but then that had to last them like two to three
- 38:27years. I think it was like $30,000.
- 38:29Yeah, okay. I found it.
- 38:31So it says in advance at Netflix rates starts around $30,000 and
- 38:37that's for them to buy the show. But of course, with the pace
- 38:41that sometimes it may take, with writing or rewrites, pitching,
- 38:44casting and preparing for the shoe and finding your people all
- 38:48that, the writers have to live off that for two to three years
- 38:51before receiving the full script fee.
- 38:53That paragraph. I don't know if it's talking
- 38:55about America or South Korea or just how Netflix does, no matter
- 38:58where you are in the world. But again, if you have just like
- 39:0210 minutes to spare, I would really read this again.
- 39:08I hope the American riders go on strike as long as they can.
- 39:11I heard the American actors actually might go on strike too,
- 39:14so that would be a first. That would be interesting.
- 39:17South Korea, if you all need to go on the strike, I will support
- 39:21that. Again, I don't know how your
- 39:23economy works, if you can afford that, or if you have anything
- 39:26called unions like we do here. I just want everyone to be paid
- 39:31equally. Okay.
- 39:32I'm too much of an optimistic to just want a fair and just world.
- 39:35And I know that's all we live in, but I'm keep rambling, so
- 39:39let's get back to the show before I keep going for another
- 39:4230 minutes. So next we have the character
- 39:49Ujiman, and he is, I don't know if he's technically a detective
- 39:53or he's a police officer. I mean, he works at the police
- 39:56station, but is he more of a detective or an actual officer?
- 39:59I feel like there's a difference.
- 40:01I think he's more of a detective, OK?
- 40:03But like in the in the movie, they identify themselves as
- 40:07police officers. So.
- 40:08That's why I was confused, Yeah, because they do, they're,
- 40:10they're in the missing persons unit, I guess, right.
- 40:14I guess so. Are they any actual unit or they
- 40:16really just work with that unit? I don't know.
- 40:19I don't know either. They don't go into too much
- 40:20detail, which wasn't that thing. I was kind of like there were
- 40:23some plot holes, like it was one of my grievances with the movie.
- 40:27I know it's a movie, so you only have a certain amount of time,
- 40:29but at the same time, even in two hours, I still had a lot of
- 40:32questions. Yeah, but he is played by the
- 40:35actor Kim Kim. He Won Isunu, who is Inami's
- 40:42father, is played by Pak Hosan Jong UN Ju, who is Inami's best
- 40:49friend. She is the one who is labeled as
- 40:53drop dead. Gorgeous English translation,
- 40:56right? Okay, That's what I thought.
- 40:58And she is played by Kim Yewan, who I guess is a stage name for
- 41:04her because Asian Wiki said her real name is Kim Kim you been.
- 41:10But we'll respect and call her by her stage name if that's what
- 41:14she prefers. So it's Kim Yewan.
- 41:16And then, last but certainly not least, is key is.
- 41:20No, I mistyped Okay. His name is Kim Jung Ho.
- 41:24Kim Jung Ho. That's the actor's, not the
- 41:28actor's name. That's the character's name, and
- 41:30he is Ujiman's partner. And he is played by John Jin U.
- 41:38That's the actor's actual name and I was wondering why he
- 41:42looked familiar and when I was looking him up, he is in the
- 41:45glory. He played the creepy like
- 41:48gangster guy you remember in the Glory who was working with.
- 41:52Yeah, the detective, yeah. Yeah.
- 41:54OK, that was him. I was wondering, like your face
- 41:57looks familiar, right? I thought that too.
- 41:59Yeah. But I don't remember names.
- 42:01Her dad's face is very familiar too, but I just can't recall
- 42:03where I saw him. I'm sure if you look on, you
- 42:06know, yeah, like the thing. Yeah, I usually put that in, but
- 42:10like I said, this time I didn't. So yeah, that's all the facts
- 42:14about the movie guys is to give you, you know, the actors who
- 42:19play in it. If any of the names sound
- 42:20familiar, if I didn't butcher them too much, I apologize as
- 42:23well. And yeah, so we're going to go
- 42:26ahead and talk about the movie. So again, if you want to
- 42:29actually watch the movie 1st and then listen to us, this is the
- 42:32time to bounce. Blow it down.
- 42:36Make it bounce it. Sorry.
- 42:37I can listen to ATS. I love Ats's new album, by the
- 42:40way. And if you don't care about
- 42:43spoilers, then just keep listening to us.
- 42:44Yeah. OK, so let's start with part
- 42:47one. So the movie actually starts off
- 42:51with various scene or scenarios where people use their phone,
- 42:56right? So for music, for texting, for
- 42:58back banking, making reservations and things like
- 43:01that, which? Is real life which is real life,
- 43:03right? Essentially, my phone.
- 43:06If I lose my phone, I'd be screwed.
- 43:08Yes, a good chunk of the world would be screwed.
- 43:13So yeah, the movie starts off with that and like, it just
- 43:15basically like, sets the stage of, like, the importance of like
- 43:19a phone, in particular a smartphone, because of all the
- 43:22different things you could do on it.
- 43:24And so we are introduced to our main, our main female lead.
- 43:28She is going home. She's on the bus.
- 43:31She is very, very, very drunk. So she has like no idea like
- 43:34what is going on around her. And she almost misses her stop
- 43:38home. But she eventually catches it.
- 43:40But in the means of catching her bus stop, she drops her phone on
- 43:45the bus floor, which she doesn't even realize until, like her
- 43:48friend comes to her house and like, kind of teases her about
- 43:51it. A good a mysterious Good
- 43:53Samaritan, as you call him, answers the phone.
- 43:57I was so terrified when he started playing that recording.
- 44:00I'm like, yes, Oh my gosh. And the fact, you know, the fact
- 44:06that he had like preset like statements, I'm like, Oh my
- 44:11goodness. And you know, that actually got
- 44:12me thinking about like, the whole use of AI now.
- 44:15Like how easily we can change the voice of somebody or like,
- 44:19impersonate someone. I'm like, Oh my God, this is so
- 44:21creepy. And.
- 44:21Notice I think he waited too, to see which one to actually use
- 44:25because he chose a woman's voice because he's talking to a woman.
- 44:28So because, you know, women are more trustful, which isn't
- 44:32always true, but I'm sure they're more willing to beat
- 44:35with a woman who have picked up the phone than a man.
- 44:38Yes. Yeah, so he Um, well, so I mean,
- 44:41we we know that the person who picked up the phone is a man,
- 44:45but he's impersonating or using the voice of a female to make
- 44:49sure, like, the people, the friend feels like, comfortable
- 44:53talking to him. And so, yeah, she lets him know
- 44:58that, like, this is her friend's phone and that she'll get in
- 45:02touch with the friend to see what they want to do.
- 45:04And so, which is funny because, like you said, the friend didn't
- 45:07think anything about it because they actually thought the
- 45:09automated voice was like an actual female.
- 45:12So like. It was so weird how it didn't
- 45:14sound automated. Like you know what is this one
- 45:17of these like recordings where you know like with us learning
- 45:20Korean like used to study but like it did sound like.
- 45:24It was pretty clear to where it sounded like you were talking to
- 45:26an actual person. It was interesting how we had so
- 45:28many set up to just like prerecorded of like how to start
- 45:32the conversation. I'm like, I don't I?
- 45:35Don't know how. People think about this like
- 45:37beforehand it was just wild. When you're psycho like that and
- 45:41calculative, yes, you think about.
- 45:43Everything I question every day, like why people do stuff.
- 45:46And then I'll have to get to a point where it's like, I have to
- 45:48stop questioning it because it's like the deep sea is unknown.
- 45:51And you know, every time and I'm like, this is what I don't trust
- 45:54men. This is why I don't trust
- 45:56people. This is why quote, UN quote.
- 45:58I come off as a brick wall or whatever it is you want to say.
- 46:02Because I've been told that that I come as a brick wall
- 46:04sometimes. I'm like, yeah, I've.
- 46:05Been told that too. Yeah.
- 46:06And I'm just like there's a reason and.
- 46:08That's why I'm so quiet, too. I just.
- 46:09Because like, like observing people first, just to get like a
- 46:13vibe. I'm not trying to do it just to
- 46:15be like standoffish or think I'm better than you is just like,
- 46:18you just don't know these things.
- 46:20Yeah, and it's gotten worse. I just couldn't get the thought
- 46:23of like, the whole AI thing out of my head.
- 46:26Because now you. Can you can you can create get a
- 46:29voice based off of just a really small sample and that in itself
- 46:32is just scary this. Is why I was telling you those
- 46:35songs being made by AI voices is is terrifying.
- 46:38Yeah, it's not fun. I don't find them fun or funny
- 46:41at all. It's great if the actual artists
- 46:43themselves are doing it. But now I can see that turning
- 46:47real quickly. And not only that, but I hear
- 46:49with AI Deep Fake is starting to get, you know, more progressive.
- 46:53So it's just like, yeah, actually that brings up a really
- 46:56good, like, PSA moment. I was listening to this or I was
- 47:00watching this Instagram story where they were like, whenever
- 47:04someone calls you and it sounds like somebody for that's a
- 47:07family member and they're like, Oh my gosh, I need like money.
- 47:10Can you come, can you, like, send me money or like, can you
- 47:12do something for me That may seem like normal, but like, it's
- 47:16probably a little bit odd for that person to do.
- 47:18Always make sure you call back. Like you hang up and call back
- 47:22that person just to verify. Because even if you text them,
- 47:26like the text can easily be like manipulated, right?
- 47:29Like even voices can be manipulated.
- 47:31So it's important that like you actually connect with the person
- 47:35and verify like this is what you need.
- 47:36Which is funny because, yeah, because we, me and my dad a
- 47:40while ago, talked about it because there was a woman who
- 47:43was talking about, like, how her sister called her and she
- 47:45thought, you know, it was her. And we have like our own, like,
- 47:48little secret code. Yes, we have in a phrase, even
- 47:52though I get annoyed when he says it to me.
- 47:54But like, it does help in those situations.
- 47:57But like, it's crazy because we were sitting in our living room
- 47:59yesterday having a conversation and he's he's like kind of
- 48:03standing up next to the table. Sitting at the table and his
- 48:06phone's on the other side. So it's like all of a sudden
- 48:09when he said something, the Siri on his phone was like, I didn't
- 48:14understand that Now. He didn't say hey Siri, he
- 48:17didn't say Siri, and he didn't have his phone in his hand.
- 48:20But. Siri automatically turned on.
- 48:22So that was another scary thing. And I was like, was that you?
- 48:25Like, do you have one of your headphones, like, in your
- 48:28pockets or something you actually touched?
- 48:30And he pulled out like his pockets.
- 48:31Like, I don't have anything. This is what people don't
- 48:35understand when it comes to like, Alexa or like Siri.
- 48:38You don't have to say hey Siri, hey Alexa, for Alexa or Siri to
- 48:42be listening. They're always listening, even
- 48:47before I believe it, even before when you had to specify hey
- 48:51Siri, hey this, they were always, always listening.
- 48:54Like, I would just be talking about I don't have Siri on my
- 48:57phone. So, like, I'd just be talking
- 48:59about like, I don't know, a trip to, like, Tennessee or
- 49:02something. And tell me how I start saying
- 49:03ads for Tennessee. Like how does.
- 49:06Always been a thing, but like, how does my phone know?
- 49:08You know what I mean? Because they're watching you,
- 49:10right? They're watching us right now.
- 49:12Record this probably, but I'm just saying if that like it's
- 49:16been. It's become so easy to just
- 49:18monitor people. Yeah, through and.
- 49:20It's getting scarier because it's not even just like phones
- 49:22and laptops anymore, because I listen to this one podcast.
- 49:26Called the friend zone and the girl Fran was talking about how
- 49:29she has a smart thermometer. And then it seemed like somehow
- 49:34someone had hacked the smart thermometer and was able to see
- 49:37like, what she was doing, which is also terrifying.
- 49:40I saw another TikTok talking about a girl.
- 49:43Seemed like she hacked her, Alexa, and I'm not.
- 49:46I didn't think Alexis had cameras in them, but maybe it
- 49:49was those. Whatever device she has Alexa
- 49:51on, it seemed like they might have also hacked it to the
- 49:54camera to, like, watch her and stuff again.
- 49:58Anything smart can be hacked, whether that's a phone, a car, a
- 50:03cleaning machine. You know those little like smart
- 50:05I robot like vacuum cleaners. We were thinking about getting
- 50:08one too, but we didn't getting one.
- 50:10Yeah, you can have that. And like, I saw videos of like
- 50:13people's, like, I robots being hacked and like showing them
- 50:16like the whole house via camera. I was like, Oh my God, which is
- 50:20fine because I really, really wanted one.
- 50:22And I'm like, no, no, no, no even.
- 50:24Our Bluetooth speaker, like, there's no camera on it, but
- 50:27like sometimes, since we live in an apartment now, there are
- 50:29instances where it's, you know, coming through the TV and then
- 50:33it stops and I think someone's trying to connect to it.
- 50:36And it's just like we can't live without this stuff and at the
- 50:39same time, no privacy anymore. Speaking of Bluetooth, this is
- 50:45the last thing I want to say before I move on.
- 50:46But like, Speaking of Bluetooth, it was so funny because this
- 50:49actually scared the shit out of me.
- 50:50When I used to go, like when I used to drive my brother's car
- 50:53before I got my own, I told the. Story about the Apple tag.
- 50:57Yeah, no, not the Apple tag, but like I turned the car on and I
- 51:00would hear SpongeBob and he's like coming out of the audio.
- 51:03And it would freak me out so much.
- 51:06And I'm like, where the hell is SpongeBob coming from?
- 51:08Because we don't have kids in our house that, like, we don't
- 51:10have kids. And like, so I turned the car
- 51:13off and I turned it back on and it'd be like another radio.
- 51:16Like it'd be just like something else every time.
- 51:19And I'm like, oh, my gosh. So I told him he's like, that's
- 51:21probably like somebody in the area who's, like, connected,
- 51:25Like, I've got automatically connected through Bluetooth.
- 51:28And I'm like, that's freaky as shit because like, that's like,
- 51:31at 5:30 in the morning. I don't need that.
- 51:33It's dark out. Right.
- 51:35Absolutely terrifying. Yeah, but yeah, moving right
- 51:40along. I know, I know.
- 51:43That's why I wanted to do this is because it was just funny how
- 51:45we've talked about AI last time and I was like, oh.
- 51:48Yeah, a. Movie to talk about more and do
- 51:52me perminator like Future ahead of.
- 51:55But I will say though, this movie just brought a lot of
- 51:58things to my attention that now I'm actually gonna lookout for.
- 52:01Like for like the phone camera. I don't know why I never thought
- 52:03that could be hacked. I want to watch out for.
- 52:06That that scared me. I didn't know that could be
- 52:08happening like that, and like, how her phone would start
- 52:10texting by itself. But the freak Like what?
- 52:13Like he was able to remotely do that.
- 52:17Oh yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no.
- 52:20But any who, but yeah, with this, like, phone call was just
- 52:23talking to the friend. He was able to figure out like
- 52:26the girl's phone. Like the girl's name is Nami.
- 52:30And so, sorry, but yeah, So she eventually calls him, Nami
- 52:35eventually calls him, and they talk and she think again with
- 52:39the female voice, right? And so she thinks him about,
- 52:43like, finding her phone and everything.
- 52:44And they agree to meet up at Cafe Missy, which is her dad's
- 52:47cafe, but that obviously does not happen.
- 52:50So what he does is he tries to get into her phone by putting in
- 52:53like different passcodes. Doesn't work.
- 52:55And so he purposely breaks her screen, calls her back and tells
- 52:58her, oh hey, I accidentally broke your screen, but I got it
- 53:01sent to a repair shop to get fixed and I paid for everything.
- 53:05All you have to do. Before, before you move on, not
- 53:08to interrupt you, but there another reason he found out who
- 53:11Nami is, is because that's another thing too.
- 53:14I feel like I want to turn off my notifications on my phone to
- 53:16where it shows up. Like if you get like an
- 53:18Instagram, yeah, her friends were tagging her in Instagram
- 53:23and so he, you know, her Instagram is not private.
- 53:25So he was able to go on, look up the username that popped up and
- 53:28see, you know, like what she looked like the friend.
- 53:30They might be talking to and things like that, yes.
- 53:32Yeah. So the Instagram played a big
- 53:34part too. Where was I?
- 53:37Yeah. So she sent it to.
- 53:38He sent it a repair shop to get it fixed.
- 53:41And she's like, okay, I'll thank you so much.
- 53:43And so she goes there to go get it picked up.
- 53:45She arrives there and the building is like old and stuff,
- 53:49but she still goes. Inside she goes.
- 53:53I don't. Know how I would feel going into
- 53:55a place I've never been to by myself that is sketchy like
- 53:59that, and trusting someone who would have mysteriously found my
- 54:02phone and fix it for me for free.
- 54:05It's like sometimes when people do good things like that, you
- 54:09don't want to trust it, You don't want to.
- 54:11Trust it. But then you also don't want to
- 54:12be like there are still people out there that just do good
- 54:15things. So like, not to be too paranoid,
- 54:18but at the same time it's like. Yeah, suspicious.
- 54:22No one doesn't anymore. And we don't like,
- 54:26unfortunately, we don't live in areas where it is relatively
- 54:29safe, but it's very odd for that kind of gesture to happen, you
- 54:33know? Yeah.
- 54:35So essentially she arrives there, there is a sign before
- 54:38she enters that says enter with a mask only.
- 54:41I thought they had recorded this around COVID time, which is why
- 54:44they had that, but no, no. No, I don't.
- 54:46They did too, because if you remember the opening scene on
- 54:48the news they were talking about.
- 54:50How they were like ever since they lifted the mask policy on
- 54:53like on the subways and stuff and the buses, they were talking
- 54:56about how people were still wearing the mask because they
- 54:58felt more comfortable doing that.
- 55:00So I was wondering if they had recorded this or like was trying
- 55:03to make it more modern day like post COVID as well.
- 55:07I thought that too. I honestly until I'll get to
- 55:10that point. But yeah, I thought that was the
- 55:12main reason why. But like so you she didn't think
- 55:14again. She didn't think of anything of
- 55:15anything And so she put on her mask and she goes in and when
- 55:19she goes in we find out that the repair shop belongs to our mail
- 55:26lead, which is John Young. And this mail lead by the way is
- 55:29the one who found her phone has been tracking her ever since he
- 55:32got that phone. So he asks her to fill out a
- 55:34form which gives you know, basically he write down her
- 55:38name, her password for her phone, which I wanted to ask.
- 55:43Is that normal for a repair shop to do to ask for the password of
- 55:46the phone or are they able to fix it without going into the
- 55:49phone itself? I think so because I I had to
- 55:52have had my phone repaired before because there was a time
- 55:56where my speaker on my cell phone wasn't working.
- 55:58So like when I would call people, they couldn't hear me.
- 56:01It was like broken. They either asked for it or they
- 56:04asked you before you get there to turn it off.
- 56:08I don't remember which one. I have a not that I think about
- 56:11it, I think. They told me to turn it off in
- 56:14my settings. But then again, that was a very
- 56:25long time ago, so I don't truly remember, but I don't feel like
- 56:29I gave it to them. Yeah, I don't think they asked
- 56:16for it. I think they're just like, oh,
- 56:19if you don't mind, can you go ahead while you're standing
- 56:21here? Like, you know, turn off your
- 56:22passcodes. I feel like I turned it off
- 56:31beforehand because I was just thinking, I don't know which
- 56:35would be more weird to ask for someone's password or like to
- 56:41ask them to turn it off beforehand.
- 56:43As far as like fixing the phone, you know, yeah.
- 56:45Because I was going to be like, when you get it repaired, just
- 56:49reset your settings and change it.
- 56:50But in this case, it didn't matter.
- 56:52So yeah, I mean, whenever you got your phone fixed and either
- 56:55way, it's not going to matter because whatever they're going
- 56:58to do, they're going to do when you're not there, you know,
- 57:00especially. If you're not tech savvy like a
- 57:02majority of us, yes exactly. But yeah, so he has her fill out
- 57:06like this form, which basically has all her information,
- 57:09especially the passcode which he has been trying to get.
- 57:13And so now he has like access to everything.
- 57:16And so he fixes the screen. Did he does he fix the screen or
- 57:19does he like get another phone? Cuz he had two phones.
- 57:22It's. Another phone but another
- 57:24question I have. If he was a true hacker, when
- 57:27has he been able to get into the phone without needing her
- 57:30password? Because there's a lot of times
- 57:32where people, especially back then, would find phones and
- 57:36jailbreak them without needing to know the passcode.
- 57:39I just thought of that right now as you were talking another.
- 57:43Plot hole. I mean, maybe, right?
- 57:45You know, I feel like he probably did know how to do it,
- 57:48but it was just he likes the thrill of it, I guess.
- 57:52I was gonna say, do you think it was another like tactic to get
- 57:54like to No words to see what she looks like?
- 57:57To somewhat get more information, to get close,
- 58:01probably okay. I just felt like it was more
- 58:04like, oh, I can take my time with this.
- 58:06I don't need to. I'm not in a rush, you know,
- 58:08right type thing. But yeah, so he got her phone,
- 58:12he was able to get in and he installed a surveillance app.
- 58:17And so this quite literally tracks her every single move.
- 58:22Like every time she opens up her phone, every time she sends a
- 58:24text and every time she gets a notification when she turns her
- 58:28camera on, like basically every single thing.
- 58:40Was it an app or was it an actual thing he put in the chip?
- 58:32And so this part I was like, when they, like, started showing
- 58:36him like tracking her for a few days, I'm like, Oh my God, this
- 58:38is so. I think it was an it was an app
- 58:46because he sends that same link to the dad and he just, you
- 58:49know, downloads it. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:52And so, yeah, so like, he downloads that application into
- 58:55her phone and then like, that's it.
- 58:57Done. So yeah, the story moves along,
- 58:59showing us how he's monitoring, monitoring, monitoring
- 59:02everything. And basically at one point,
- 59:05like, her and her friends were having a conversation about the
- 59:08Plumb aid that her dad makes for her at the cafe and how like it
- 59:13wasn't really selling well and they want to take it off the
- 59:15menu and things like that. So he hears this, which by the
- 59:18way we find out about John Young, that is that him and his
- 59:22dad, they planted like a plum tree when they were young and so
- 59:26he he likes plums. So anything plums.
- 59:28I guess that caught his attention.
- 59:30You know what? I didn't even think about that
- 59:32until you said that that makes a lot more sense.
- 59:34Yeah, So there's that. And so he goes to the cafe like
- 59:42just as himself. And so he asked for the Plumb
- 59:45aid and saying that he had it like last summer and like he
- 59:48really loved it and things like that.
- 59:50But she was like, oh, we don't have it on the menu.
- 59:53When when did you drink it? And that's when he said the
- 59:55summer thing. And she's like, OK, yeah, fine,
- 59:57I'll make it for you. And so she gives him the, the
- 1:00:00plumbing. And then her dad walks into the
- 1:00:02cafe and he sees her talking to him and, like, they're getting
- 1:00:05along and acting chummy and everything like that.
- 1:00:07And he's like, oh, do you know that guy?
- 1:00:10And she's like, no, he's a, he's a regular.
- 1:00:12I thought you'd like, you know, recognize him.
- 1:00:14And he's like, oh, OK and so. At this point, nothing like
- 1:00:18there was no alarm bell, no nothing like raised just yet.
- 1:00:22For the Father, yes. For the Father, yes.
- 1:00:25Physical father. You know the father.
- 1:00:26Yes. And then the girl now and.
- 1:00:28But she just leaves to go to hang out with like her friends.
- 1:00:32And then that is for that scene. And then it cuts into John
- 1:00:35Young's dad's conversation with his colleague.
- 1:00:39I think I skipped apart. All right.
- 1:00:40Yeah. So in between all of this, there
- 1:00:42is like an investigation going about like how it's mostly
- 1:00:46girls, right? The dead bodies, they were
- 1:00:48girls, right? I don't think so.
- 1:00:50I think it was a mix of both. They didn't really specify.
- 1:00:53They didn't specify. Yeah, so there.
- 1:00:55I think a majority might have been women but I think he's it's
- 1:01:00probably mixed. But yeah, anyway, they were,
- 1:01:02they were finding like, dead bodies all around the city.
- 1:01:04And like at one point there was a lot of incriminating evidence
- 1:01:09against the lead inspector, the lead investigator's son, whose
- 1:01:14name is John Young. And that's when we find out that
- 1:01:17John Young have run away from home like 7 years ago and like
- 1:01:19him and his dad, have not been in contact since.
- 1:01:22And so the colleague was like, why don't you talk to your wife?
- 1:01:25Because there's no way they haven't been in contact.
- 1:01:26Right. And so he thinks about it.
- 1:01:29And so he goes back home and he goes through his wife's phone
- 1:01:33and he actually does find out that they have been
- 1:01:35communicating through text and he's been telling her his wears
- 1:01:40about and things like that so he can, so that she can send him
- 1:01:43like food and things like that. So he was able to track down his
- 1:01:46latest, our current location. So now we go back to John Young
- 1:01:52stalking Nami. Tsunami puts her phone away for
- 1:01:55the night on her little pool charging thing.
- 1:02:00But after she falls asleep, this freaked me out so much.
- 1:02:04It just turned on automatically, like and just doing its own
- 1:02:08thing. I'm like, Oh my God, that is so
- 1:02:10freaking scary. And so.
- 1:02:12Going through the phone and just looking at stuff like her,
- 1:02:15social media, right? What their bank account or not,
- 1:02:18things like that. He found out a lot of stuff like
- 1:02:21he like over now overnight. He found out like so much
- 1:02:23personal information like her house passcode that she lives
- 1:02:27alone. She doesn't have, you know,
- 1:02:29roommates or there's no like landlord situation.
- 1:02:33He knows what her house looks like.
- 1:02:35He knows like, what bus route she takes, like basically
- 1:02:38everything. And the most important thing he
- 1:02:40finds out is that she runs a secret Instagram account about,
- 1:02:44like, her company and everything.
- 1:02:46So yeah, So the next morning comes Nami goes to work.
- 1:02:51She finds out that the company's doing really, really well and
- 1:02:53that she's about to get a raise. And then we cut back to John
- 1:02:56Young, being the stalker freak that he is, is in front of her
- 1:03:00house. Like literally sitting in like
- 1:03:02the front area of her house while like that whole
- 1:03:04conversation with her boss is going on.
- 1:03:06And he goes in to her house and he goes through everything.
- 1:03:10He checks the bathroom. I don't know why he checked if
- 1:03:13the water was running. That was weird, but.
- 1:03:15Hey, this is being a creep. That's a part of being a creep,
- 1:03:18yeah. He checked the room, the
- 1:03:19bathrooms. He goes through her desk and he
- 1:03:23finds a phone. He finds a phone which he takes
- 1:03:27and I think he installed something in that phone too,
- 1:03:30which we find out later. Well.
- 1:03:31That's where she got see so far, I'm not sure if I remember like,
- 1:03:34paying attention or not. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:03:37So, OK, yeah, so he takes the phone.
- 1:03:39I'm pretty sure he installed something on it so that whenever
- 1:03:41she, you know, turns it back on, he'll know.
- 1:03:44Yeah. So I think he also made a
- 1:03:47withdrawal from her like card, right, Like he took money to
- 1:03:51from her bank account. I.
- 1:03:53Because he thing I was like, I don't think he did he still
- 1:03:56much, I don't know because we just saw a scene of him like
- 1:03:58withdrawing money from a bank account and then just throwing
- 1:04:00away a card, like holding it up like a credit card or debit
- 1:04:04card, whatever. But I'm not sure if that was.
- 1:04:06He did. Then that's another plot hole
- 1:04:07because I don't remember them ever bringing up again.
- 1:04:09Yeah, I think you'd be worried if someone was taking money for.
- 1:04:12I was waiting for that to come back again.
- 1:04:14That's the first thing I would check.
- 1:04:15Exactly. Um.
- 1:04:16So yeah, so basically her phone is being hacked and used like,
- 1:04:19every single day. And this is the part that, like,
- 1:04:22kind of aggravated me, is that she never noticed that her phone
- 1:04:26would just light up on its own or, like, do its own thing.
- 1:04:28It's like that just tells you she's not like into her phone
- 1:04:31like the rest of society is, which is probably why she ran
- 1:04:34into that issue. I don't know.
- 1:04:36It was even that. Or like even though she was on
- 1:04:38her phone, maybe he also just doesn't have a life.
- 1:04:41It was watching her to where? He would do that when he knew
- 1:04:45she wasn't paying attention, you know, So like he knew her
- 1:04:47patterns, basically. Yeah, because if he's watching
- 1:04:49her through the phone the whole time, he's going to know like,
- 1:04:51Oh yeah, when she's not on it at.
- 1:04:52Her phone and like when she's not, like whether the phone's
- 1:04:56not in her face or anywhere where she can see like it light
- 1:04:58up or things like that. So that's true, I guess.
- 1:05:01So I think it was just by him watching her.
- 1:05:04He would do it when she wasn't paying attention and she wasn't
- 1:05:06like, physically got you. That kind of makes sense.
- 1:05:09She seems like a. Heavy sleeper.
- 1:05:10She doesn't notice a light coming on when she's sleeping.
- 1:05:13So yeah, I mean, that is the reason why she ran into this.
- 1:05:17No, actually alcohol was the reason, but anyway that.
- 1:05:19Was gonna say that was alcohol? Yeah, This is why we don't drink
- 1:05:22guys. Or you drink with a buddy.
- 1:05:24This is why I don't drink, or you drink with somebody you
- 1:05:26trust. Yeah, that's why we always have
- 1:05:29a designated. Well, it's usually driver, but I
- 1:05:32don't know. Usually only always have one
- 1:05:35mildly sober person in the group so they can be aware.
- 1:05:38If you're with friends that you trust enough like that, I would
- 1:05:41just suggest you don't drink, period.
- 1:05:43Because alcohol is not good for you.
- 1:05:45It's a depressant. It's not supposed to make you
- 1:05:47happy. But we are the masters of our
- 1:05:50own lives. So I mean, if you're going to do
- 1:05:52something, just know there are consequences.
- 1:05:54I just don't care. Anywho, So yeah, so basically
- 1:05:59her phone is being hacked and then we get cut to the scene
- 1:06:03where her parents, Jen Yun's parents, are talking.
- 1:05:54For real. So he confronts his wife about
- 1:06:08the where, About his whereabouts.
- 1:06:10And he basically tells her like, there's incriminating evidence
- 1:06:14against him. He found evidence by the plum
- 1:06:17tree that they like, you know, planted when he was like 10
- 1:06:20years old. And so his dad in the meantime,
- 1:06:23while he was talking to his wife, had his phone and
- 1:06:25everything traced. So they actually did find his
- 1:06:27location. And so the mom like starts
- 1:06:29freaking out and then like he leaves.
- 1:06:32But when they traced the phone, they find out that the phone is
- 1:06:36under the name of a female. So they're essentially they're
- 1:06:39back to square one as far as like tracking him down.
- 1:06:43But they did find out that he had reported for fraud because
- 1:06:47he lost a lot of money in a scam and that he runs a repair shop
- 1:06:52but doesn't own his own phone. So they thought that was weird
- 1:06:55as far as like information they found.
- 1:06:58Let's see, So the dad, he goes to John Young's residence.
- 1:07:03He goes through his things and finds a lot of incriminating
- 1:07:06evidence. So he finds everything related
- 1:07:07to the most recent dead body that they found.
- 1:07:10So they found like pictures of the girl, the stuff that he uses
- 1:07:15her phone and things like that. So at that point, while the dad
- 1:07:20is going through everything in his apartment, John Young is on
- 1:07:22his way to his house when he noticed a little red thread like
- 1:07:25by his door on the floor. And that like just gave him the
- 1:07:29alert that somebody is inside of his house.
- 1:07:31So he goes around to the side and he finds out that it is the
- 1:07:33dad. So he tricks the dad.
- 1:07:36And I thought this was actually very clever the way he had.
- 1:07:39Didn't scare me, yeah, the way he was, like tricking him and
- 1:07:42all that. So he was prepared.
- 1:07:44Yeah, like the way he like the way he tackled that was just so
- 1:07:48clever. But like, it's also very, very
- 1:07:50scary. Like so he took.
- 1:07:52It's clever and scary at the same time.
- 1:07:54We can admit that, yeah. He bounces, Yeah.
- 1:07:55So he went around his apartment and went to the the window and
- 1:07:58he took a picture of his dad going through everything and
- 1:08:01he's like, hey dad, it's been a while and sends him a picture.
- 1:08:04And then the dad like freaks out, runs outside, and then he
- 1:08:06just keeps sending like pictures from like different locations.
- 1:08:09The dad is just running manically here and there.
- 1:08:12And so in the meantime, he goes back into the apartment, gets
- 1:08:16rid of evidence, takes the stuff he needs, and he.
- 1:08:20Destroys everything. Yeah, he just destroys
- 1:08:23everything. But not before the dad found out
- 1:08:25that there's one more victim which is not me.
- 1:08:28That's still around. Yeah, which is not me.
- 1:08:30So he So he was able to figure out that, like, there's still a
- 1:08:33chance for for me to catch my son, Unfortunately, that's one
- 1:08:38thing I kind of wish, though, like, they kind of went into the
- 1:08:40back story of like, what went wrong between them.
- 1:08:42That's. What I was wondering the whole
- 1:08:44time of like what made him run away like?
- 1:08:48Did you do something to him? Did you hit him?
- 1:08:51Did y'all just not get along? And like, we don't have an age
- 1:08:54range of how old he is, so I don't know.
- 1:08:57They said that he's been gone for seven years.
- 1:08:59So when did he leave? Like, I had a lot of questions.
- 1:09:02Exactly. And I know it's a movie, so
- 1:09:04like, you're on a time crunch, but I wish they at least touched
- 1:09:07on why he left. This is a I guess a bad thing
- 1:09:10that I do is like whenever I watch like movies with
- 1:09:13psychopaths like I want to like justify their actions in the
- 1:09:17movie. Like for example in this case
- 1:09:19like what is the actual reason why he does what he does?
- 1:09:22Like, is it daddy issues or is it like he was abused when he
- 1:09:26was growing up? But we don't have any sort of
- 1:09:28contacts as to like why he does what he does even.
- 1:09:31So like, I don't know if you. Can even justify that of him
- 1:09:34turning out the way he is, just because that's what I talk with
- 1:09:38Macy and I think you will A lot that I bring up.
- 1:09:40That's that nature, virtues, nurture.
- 1:09:43So you don't know if he was like already like this.
- 1:09:46And even if that fortunately happened, it just added on to
- 1:09:50it. You could have had a perfectly
- 1:09:51normal life and he still ended up like this.
- 1:09:54Like, you just never know. And that is one of those things
- 1:09:58where it's tricky to talk about because we just truly don't
- 1:10:01know. Yeah, A little more context in
- 1:10:04that regard would have made the story a little bit more.
- 1:10:07Yeah, no clear wanted to know. I just want to know why he
- 1:10:09loves. But so yeah, that's where we
- 1:10:13were. Dang.
- 1:10:15Really. Stop.
- 1:10:17Yeah. So he grabs this thing and
- 1:10:18leaves. And then he goes straight to the
- 1:10:21cafe where Nami works and he gets a plumade.
- 1:10:25At this point, though, it's the dad that deals with him.
- 1:10:28He's like, oh, I haven't seen you in a long time.
- 1:10:30And he's like, yeah, yeah. And the dad makes a point to
- 1:10:33mention, like, yeah, the plumbing is something that I
- 1:10:36give to my regulars. So, like, if you're a regular, I
- 1:10:39make a point to remember your face.
- 1:10:41And so he was like, so that, like, had a light bulb go off.
- 1:10:45And John Young's had like, uh oh, he's on to me.
- 1:10:48Which honestly is a good thing. But then not really Just, you
- 1:10:52know, gets the dad in trouble. We.
- 1:10:53Kind of expect everyone to fall for his little thing.
- 1:10:56Did he think the father was going to be as naive as Nami?
- 1:10:59Like, come on. Yeah.
- 1:11:01And sometimes it is. But then sometimes you gotta
- 1:11:03remember. And he's a father.
- 1:11:05Exactly. He's always looking at.
- 1:11:06Fathers that usually care are more worried, especially when
- 1:11:09they have daughters. So yeah, so he goes there.
- 1:11:12He sells Nami some tickets for something and he also gives her
- 1:11:15like a business card for in case, quote, UN quote, anything
- 1:11:18goes wrong. And so after that point, Nami's
- 1:11:23dad takes her home. And like in the car, he asks her
- 1:11:26if he should move to Seoul because he just thinks that John
- 1:11:29Young is a creep and just so that he could be closer and
- 1:11:31like, you know, keep an eye on things.
- 1:11:33And he was like worried too, because he's like, he lied about
- 1:11:35being a regular. He sold her like, the CD's and
- 1:11:38the tickets. And so the father has doubts
- 1:11:41and, like, warned her to stay away.
- 1:11:43And mind you, John Young is listening in to all this entire
- 1:11:47conversation. So he knows that the dad does
- 1:11:51not trust him and things like that.
- 1:11:53Yeah. So after that she tells off her
- 1:11:56dad goes into her house. What typical father daughter.
- 1:12:00Like, don't tell me what to do right?
- 1:12:02I'm not grown. I'm like, girl, you're grown.
- 1:12:04You could have responded much more nicely, but OK.
- 1:12:07But yeah. Anyway, so her friend comes over
- 1:12:10and, which I found really weird because I don't know if he
- 1:12:14knows, but she mentioned that like she told her to come over
- 1:12:19right? She's like she also.
- 1:12:21Must have missed that because I thought she came over because
- 1:12:23she was upset about blowing an interview she had, because she
- 1:12:27mentioned that no, she was, that's why she came.
- 1:12:29But like, apparently like Nami had sent her a text about like
- 1:12:33her interview and things like that.
- 1:12:36I don't know. It was just really weird And
- 1:12:37that's. Missed that.
- 1:12:38And I watched this movie and Nami was like and Nami was like.
- 1:12:42I sent that, I sent that. But like, they don't go further
- 1:12:44into that part. Essentially.
- 1:12:46Eventually they start talking about John Young and like how.
- 1:12:50And so Nami eventually mentions that, like, she's not really,
- 1:12:53like attracted to him, but like she is curious about him because
- 1:12:58they do have like a lot of things in common.
- 1:13:00And so she does mention that he would look better if he, like,
- 1:13:03got rid of the glass and then like cut his hair, which I
- 1:13:05thought. He looked fine.
- 1:13:07He looked cute. Either way he did, he did.
- 1:13:09Maybe that's the baby standard. I don't understand.
- 1:13:12Yeah, left adorable with the glasses.
- 1:13:14And yeah, so she's like, she just wants to, like, get to know
- 1:13:16him better. And so at that point, John Young
- 1:13:20hats Nami's phone. I mean, it's already hacked, but
- 1:13:22like, he hacks it again and texts her dad to install the
- 1:13:28surveillance app, which by the way is called the Peepers app.
- 1:13:30That in itself should have been a freaking red flag.
- 1:13:34Like who would name an application Peepers?
- 1:13:36Like, let's just like come on dad, you were so smart until
- 1:13:39like 2 minutes ago. That's funny.
- 1:13:41Because that makes you think of a Regular Show episode where
- 1:13:44like, Benson literally got a security camera called Peepers
- 1:13:49to watch Mordecai and Rigby, because they're so lazy, won't
- 1:13:52do their jobs. But it was called Peepers, so he
- 1:13:55can watch them, right? So if you're downloading
- 1:13:58something called Peepers, I don't know.
- 1:14:01I don't know. Maybe that's just me.
- 1:14:02Yeah, but you you have to remember though, I guess in his
- 1:14:05defense is that he's getting this text from his daughter, but
- 1:14:09he did actually have his doubts. Actually, now that I think about
- 1:14:11it, he's like, Are you sure this is safe?
- 1:14:12And she's like. He kept asking, Yeah, Are you
- 1:14:15sure this is like an OK software?
- 1:14:17Like, what is this actually for? Things like that?
- 1:14:19So at least he did question. Yeah, she's like, oh, in case I
- 1:14:22lose my phone again and he's like chuckling, Ha ha, that's
- 1:14:26true. Downloads it and I'm like, Oh my
- 1:14:29God, this psychopath has her down to the T But yeah, so he
- 1:14:34down downloads it. And now, like, he has access to
- 1:14:37the dad too. And so Jen Yung's dad goes to
- 1:14:43oh, so we're cutting the scene back to the detective, which is
- 1:14:45Jen Yung's dad. He goes to the most recent Dead
- 1:14:48Girls Mom's restaurant and says that this part I was kind of
- 1:14:52confused on. So, like, the mom says that Jen
- 1:14:56Yun was the one who told her daughter to go to Thailand.
- 1:14:59Like, was that what that was? Was it John Young that told her
- 1:15:03that? Or was it the daughter herself
- 1:15:05that said that she was going on a trip like texted her.
- 1:15:09I also do the impression that she said she got a text from the
- 1:15:12daughter, OK, She was like going out the country, OK.
- 1:15:15But she did meet John Young, like in person I believe.
- 1:15:19Yeah, because the mom was saying that she met some guy and like
- 1:15:24and then asked her to go to Thailand with him or something
- 1:15:27like that. So I'm not sure.
- 1:15:29Yeah, because I thought she mentioned the repair shop and I
- 1:15:32thought she said like she the daughter met him when he
- 1:15:35repaired her father and then like the daughter told her that
- 1:15:38she was going to go to Thailand with him or something.
- 1:15:41Yeah, yeah, I don't remember something like that.
- 1:15:43So that's when the dad kind of, like, starts noticing when he
- 1:15:46first first hears about, like, a pattern that he uses, how he,
- 1:15:50like, breaks their phone, asks them to go to a repair shop, get
- 1:15:53yada yada. So then we cut back to the scene
- 1:15:55of Donny's dad. He gets a package.
- 1:15:58This man, if you know you're not expecting a package, why are you
- 1:16:02going to go get a package? I mean, maybe he thought it was
- 1:16:05one of his neighbors and was trying to do the neighborly
- 1:16:07thing like, oh, whose package actually came to me.
- 1:16:10I I would have questioned. I would do that too.
- 1:16:12I at least I would do that, but like I wouldn't go out in the.
- 1:16:15I don't know. It's.
- 1:16:16Like, it's one of those things where you question like, oh, I
- 1:16:18would never do that, but if you really think about it, you
- 1:16:21probably would. I'm just thinking I'm like,
- 1:16:22would I do that? You probably would have.
- 1:16:25I'm not gonna cap like I would have done that.
- 1:16:27OK. But here's the thing though.
- 1:16:28That box was in the middle of the street.
- 1:16:30I. Was in his front, like in front
- 1:16:32of his gate. Yeah, which is the street.
- 1:16:33I mean, if the post office don't have access to drop it at your
- 1:16:37front door, if it's the middle, and now that I think about it,
- 1:16:40now that I think about it, the picture, that picture was weird
- 1:16:44that he just got a picture of a box, right?
- 1:16:47Like if you are a delivery person and you're delivering
- 1:16:51package, the way he took that picture is not that of a
- 1:16:54delivery person, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:16:57Like the packet, like the picture would be so much more
- 1:16:58closer. Like you're standing right by
- 1:17:00the thing. This was really far.
- 1:17:02Do you know what I'm saying? That's true.
- 1:17:04I was going to be like, I don't know if Korea delivers their
- 1:17:07packages differently, But now that you say that, that makes
- 1:17:10sense. If you're taking a picture,
- 1:17:11you're you're. You know you're right.
- 1:17:13Like they're next to the item that they dropped off to prove
- 1:17:16that they have dropped it off at the location you gave them.
- 1:17:19Exactly. You're not trying to take a
- 1:17:20portrait. Like, no.
- 1:17:22You're not trying to be artistic, like, here's your
- 1:17:24package, right? You don't get a raise for that.
- 1:17:27Oh my God, they probably don't even get.
- 1:17:30You know what? I continue.
- 1:17:32Continue. I was in this place.
- 1:17:33I probably wouldn't think like 50 times about it, honestly, you
- 1:17:36know the picture I probably would have because that's
- 1:17:38abnormal. Anyway, so where were we?
- 1:17:40Yeah, So he goes to pick up this package and then like somebody
- 1:17:43sneaks into his house while he's picking up the said package.
- 1:17:47And then we cut straight to a situation that happens where the
- 1:17:52police have to close off an entire area because they found
- 1:17:55like 7 or 8 more bodies. And then cut again back to Nami.
- 1:18:00Waking up to her account being hacked where, excuse me, there
- 1:18:04are nasty posts about the company that she works for are
- 1:18:07made and how like she got a raise, but it wasn't like a good
- 1:18:11enough phrase and things like that.
- 1:18:12Basically a whole bunch of like, shit talking.
- 1:18:15And so she runs to her office and her boss and coworker do not
- 1:18:20believe that she was packed. They thought like she actually
- 1:18:23felt that way and so she was like fired on the spot.
- 1:18:27Oh, while. After getting slapped?
- 1:18:29Oh yeah, after getting slapped and pushed out.
- 1:18:31Yeah, physically. I'm like, do we always have to
- 1:18:34resort to like a physical right handling?
- 1:18:38Aka dramas. So here are my questions about
- 1:18:42this secret Instagram account. Why is her Instagram account
- 1:18:45secret it? I know you.
- 1:18:48Said earlier it was about her company, but I thought it was
- 1:18:50just a food review count in general.
- 1:18:53OK, that's what I thought too earlier.
- 1:18:55But then it just made it seem like it was about her company.
- 1:18:58No, I think it's just the food review in general.
- 1:19:01So she's working at a food company, I think they are, you
- 1:19:06know, she's going to review it as well.
- 1:19:07But it's one of those things where, like if she wants to
- 1:19:10give, I guess, honest reviews. She's going to say Anonymous,
- 1:19:16especially if she's popular, and that's not uncommon.
- 1:19:19So there's a lot of things where people, I mean you see the
- 1:19:23Internet now where it's like a fan page or like journalists,
- 1:19:26whether they don't work with like an actual company and they
- 1:19:30just want to say Anonymous because, you know, the Internet
- 1:19:33thing. Because you know, now we have
- 1:19:35this new thing of like docs and people, so so OK, so that was
- 1:19:40her private account to just review things honestly.
- 1:19:42I believe so because I don't think it was just her company.
- 1:19:45I think it was just. Other stuff in general, she
- 1:19:48would give like an honest like blog, like blogs, you know, like
- 1:19:51how they did like, yeah, no, that makes sense because like on
- 1:19:54the like they highlighted like they zoom into the part where
- 1:19:57like no sponsored ads or something like that or no
- 1:20:00responsive products. OK, that makes sense.
- 1:20:02I don't think she's like paid or.
- 1:20:03OK, OK, that makes sense. Well.
- 1:20:04She wasn't getting paid for, but.
- 1:20:05Either way, though, the way they handle that whole situation was
- 1:20:09just, like, really wrong and very unprofessional.
- 1:20:12It was. But then you have to remember
- 1:20:13they're a startup company, so it seemed like this deal was like
- 1:20:16a. Really Big deal.
- 1:20:18Deal like that. Probably would have like built
- 1:20:20that company, I don't know. But The thing is, they didn't
- 1:20:22even try to hear her out is what I'm saying is like, it's very
- 1:20:26common to get hacked though, so it's not like it's like a stupid
- 1:20:30idea or just an excuse. That is something I guess they
- 1:20:33could have like looked into later.
- 1:20:34But I understand why the boss was really furious, because she
- 1:20:38had just spoken to her. Yeah, give her a raise and
- 1:20:41stuff. And then again, that's probably
- 1:20:42where, like, they showed it really quick.
- 1:20:44But even if I had time to read it, that's where, like me not
- 1:20:47fully understanding Korean doesn't come in because I don't
- 1:20:49know what she actually said, you know?
- 1:20:51Yeah, like even from the English translation, what she had
- 1:20:55probably, or what he had posted, pretending to be heard could
- 1:20:59have been a lot harsher and worse than what we think it was
- 1:21:03or what was translated to us. That's true.
- 1:21:05All types of names, all types of bitches, like, maybe even like
- 1:21:11accusing them of using something that may be harmful to people.
- 1:21:14Like, we don't know even. And if we could read Korean like
- 1:21:19naturally. They showed it way too quickly
- 1:21:22in general. And it was a really long post
- 1:21:24too. It was like a pair, not even a
- 1:21:26pair. It was like a novel, OK?
- 1:21:29And also, the post had a very specific information that was
- 1:21:32only between her and her boss. That's probably why they were so
- 1:21:35convinced. Yeah, because remember, her boss
- 1:21:37told her to keep the raise a secret from the.
- 1:21:40Other, Right. Right.
- 1:21:42OK, Tang. So yeah, I guess in that
- 1:21:44situation I'd understand that it's not a hat and just.
- 1:21:46She's trying to wease a lot of it.
- 1:21:48Makes sense. Makes sense, Yeah.
- 1:21:50No, I'm sure there's a lot deeper than that, so.
- 1:21:52Yeah. So yeah, So, like, her whole
- 1:21:56life, just like, you know, well, fell apart before she even knew
- 1:22:00it. And so, yeah, she got fired.
- 1:22:02And all this time, John Young is watching, and now he knows her
- 1:22:07boss's name, where she works, her coworker's name, all that
- 1:22:10jazz. So her friend, so not me and her
- 1:22:13friend. They go to the police office.
- 1:22:15Or the police station. And basically when they go to
- 1:22:19write a complaint, the police officer was like, do you have
- 1:22:22proof that you were hacked? You need to come back with
- 1:22:25evidence so that we can prove that you were hacked and then
- 1:22:27take steps accordingly. And they were just like where
- 1:22:30are we going to get approved? Blah blah, blah, blah.
- 1:22:32So they're. So they left the police station
- 1:22:34and we are then cut to the scene where we find where we see that
- 1:22:40Nani's dad has like. Tape over him and we find out
- 1:22:42that he has been kidnapped. Yes.
- 1:22:45By June Young himself, Yes. Because after he picked up the
- 1:22:49package and he went back inside, he ambushed him and knocked him
- 1:22:52out and stuff. Which, I mean, I guess I get the
- 1:22:55police saying, you know, like they need evidence.
- 1:22:58I don't know. I don't really know how hard it
- 1:23:01is to find. You know, I don't know how hard
- 1:23:04it is to solve crimes like that. Or at the same time, it's just
- 1:23:07like people not wanting to do their jobs.
- 1:23:10I don't know how it's like in Korea, but you know, sometimes
- 1:23:12in America it's just like, you know, when they don't want to do
- 1:23:15their jobs or if it really is just that difficult.
- 1:23:18And then laws. Yeah, we don't know Okay, But
- 1:23:23then we're going to go on to meet with the next scene.
- 1:23:26So I picked up after that. So basically, like Nafi said, we
- 1:23:30cut to where Buju Young is in her father's house and he's all
- 1:23:35tied up. And like, I don't remember the
- 1:23:37whole monologue that he's giving him.
- 1:23:39Do you? Something along the lines of
- 1:23:42like I knew you were a creep, blah blah blah, don't hurt my
- 1:23:46daughter, stay away from my daughter.
- 1:23:48And then John Young was something tape over his mouth,
- 1:23:52though, Or was did he tell him that?
- 1:23:53And then he put. Then he put the tape over that.
- 1:23:57But then like John Young, he like, goes on to this monologue
- 1:23:59saying that like, oh, you should have been a better father.
- 1:24:02And then he's like, you were actually a better You're
- 1:24:04actually a pretty decent father. There's some fathers who don't
- 1:24:06even check up on their kids for like 7 years.
- 1:24:09Reference to himself exactly, which is interesting and we'll
- 1:24:12get into why that's interesting later.
- 1:24:14But then we catch up with E Nami and Jong UN Ju, the best friend
- 1:24:19at the cafe. Basically trying to brainstorm
- 1:24:21on how to catch the hacker. And then so they're like, hey, I
- 1:24:24know a person. Well Nami's like, hey, I know a
- 1:24:26person that maybe help, and it is the culprit himself who
- 1:24:30chewing on who shows up because they call him for help,
- 1:24:33basically to look into Nami's phone.
- 1:24:36And I was also very surprised he was basically straight up with
- 1:24:40them and just be like. Hey like This is why it
- 1:24:44happened. You have a spyware in your phone
- 1:24:47and like you could see everything and he even picked up
- 1:24:49the phone from his laptop to show like how the hacker would
- 1:24:52be able and you don't think that would be suspicious if like
- 1:24:55you're showing me through a example like you might be the
- 1:24:59hacker. Do you understand what I'm
- 1:25:01trying to say? I do, but I can also see why
- 1:25:03they don't find it suspicious, because remember he does.
- 1:25:06He's the quote UN quote digital sheriff, like, so he he deals
- 1:25:09with things like that at his company, OK, I guess.
- 1:25:12And remember, it's also the same company that their friend works
- 1:25:15at. So they kind of had like that,
- 1:25:17oh, we don't have a reason to, you know, not trust him, right.
- 1:25:20And then after all that, he basically takes, like, Nami
- 1:25:24outside to speak with her. I was going to bring up
- 1:25:27something and I forgot to write it down, basically, because when
- 1:25:30they first get there, the best friend shows, Oh no, the best
- 1:25:34friend tells not me about all the, like, bodies that they've
- 1:25:38been finding just in passing. Because it was on a news report.
- 1:25:41I don't know. I thought that was interesting,
- 1:25:42even though they didn't harp on it.
- 1:25:43But that just kind of shows, you know, like something's happening
- 1:25:45where a lot of people have been getting killed.
- 1:25:46Yeah, she had her own problems, though.
- 1:25:49Yeah. So then, like, I also thought
- 1:25:51that was interesting how, like, you know, you haven't known this
- 1:25:54guy for that long, but yeah, he was able to convince you to not
- 1:25:59trust your best friend and. In a 2 minute conversation.
- 1:26:03In a 2 minute, probably not even conversation that like you know
- 1:26:07this can't be placed. What did he say remotely?
- 1:26:11If someone physically had to have placed this in your phone,
- 1:26:14who could have had your phone? Who could have been jealous of
- 1:26:17you? I'm like, wait a minute, isn't?
- 1:26:18This supposed to be your best friend?
- 1:26:20I don't know how long they know each other, but it's like you're
- 1:26:22trusting a guy. You bet for two minutes over
- 1:26:25your supposedly drop dead gorgeous best friends.
- 1:26:30That's where I'm kind of like, whoa there.
- 1:26:32I don't know if I want you as a friend girl.
- 1:26:34The reason why he was able to convince her though was because
- 1:26:37she was the only one who knew about the secret account and
- 1:26:40like the whole like situation, right?
- 1:26:43But like, she didn't even give her a chance to be like, it's
- 1:26:45not me I. Feel like she was really.
- 1:26:47And she also randomly stayed over that one day.
- 1:26:50What wasn't random? She had a reason.
- 1:26:52But yeah, I I see what you're saying.
- 1:26:54Like there. She should have at least given
- 1:26:55her a second to, like, explain herself.
- 1:26:58Yeah, I don't know. I feel like maybe that's also my
- 1:27:01naivety, but unless something happened to where I feel like
- 1:27:03because it's not even like they work together or anything or
- 1:27:06they're like insane career paths.
- 1:27:08I just thought it was wild to all of a sudden think now and
- 1:27:12you knew she ran the secret account for so long that she
- 1:27:16would betray you in a way. And I don't know if she told
- 1:27:19her, well, she must have about like the race and stuff, but she
- 1:27:21was giving her compliments. I don't know.
- 1:27:24It's one of those things where it's hard to trust people, but I
- 1:27:26feel like the way they were so close.
- 1:27:28It was interesting to me how quickly she was able to turn on
- 1:27:31her. I.
- 1:27:31Think what convinced her though is when he mentioned like like
- 1:27:35she was the only one who had access that night.
- 1:27:37Or like, can you think of anyone who had access to your phone at
- 1:27:40night? And like, she was over that
- 1:27:43night when everything happened. Not to mention they all, both of
- 1:27:46them woke up really late because her alarms were turned off.
- 1:27:49So he's like, yeah, do can you think of anyone who would, like,
- 1:27:51turn off your alarms or like, you know, purposely make you
- 1:27:54late, that type of thing? Yeah, I guess as you see it now
- 1:27:57like that, I see it now, but still I guess, like he just
- 1:28:00made. Sure, all of the boxes were
- 1:28:02checked. Honestly, is what he did, which
- 1:28:04I mean is great because he's been watching them.
- 1:28:06So he knew exactly what he would say.
- 1:28:08Yeah. But that's also his point of
- 1:28:10like, you know, that's what usually I feel like, well, I
- 1:28:14don't know murder victims, but like manipulators do that.
- 1:28:17You hear that in all stories where, like, they always make
- 1:28:19sure their victims are isolated to where when they realize the
- 1:28:23type of situation they're in, they can't call for help.
- 1:28:26So that was his plan all along. And then they do end up getting
- 1:28:28in a big fight and then like that creepy smile that he had
- 1:28:32when he saw her, like leaving the cafe crying.
- 1:28:34I know I feel bad for the friend.
- 1:28:36And here's the thing, though. Like she Nami wanted her to say
- 1:28:40like, just tell me you didn't do it.
- 1:28:41Just tell me you didn't do it. And the friend just kept not
- 1:28:44saying that. And I'm like, girl, just say it.
- 1:28:46Yeah, the part of her pride as well.
- 1:28:47Be like, I can't believe you're actually sitting here accusing
- 1:28:49me. It's like you shouldn't have to
- 1:28:52ask me if I did this or not. You should be able to trust me
- 1:28:54enough to not accuse me. So why do I need to say I didn't
- 1:28:57do it? Because even if I did, you're
- 1:28:58not gonna believe me. Exactly.
- 1:29:00But I'm glad she said. Yeah, I did it and then walked
- 1:29:02away. Yeah.
- 1:29:03It's like if you're already convinced the fact that you're
- 1:29:06the mere fact that you sat here for an hour.
- 1:29:09With the whole sour face. Did not talk to me.
- 1:29:11And then now are just bringing this up.
- 1:29:13Yeah, you're convinced that I did it.
- 1:29:15Yeah. Not gonna engage.
- 1:29:16Exactly. Nothing I say is going to change
- 1:29:18your mind. Yeah, you're already convinced I
- 1:29:20did it. So.
- 1:29:20Exactly. So then basically we jump to
- 1:29:23where the detectives are at the cell phone repair shop.
- 1:29:26Just like looking around. Says when they talked to the
- 1:29:28last victim's mother, they were able to Did they find out from
- 1:29:31her where it is, or did the father already know where it
- 1:29:35was? Like the police detective.
- 1:29:36He already knew where he was. He did.
- 1:29:39So they just end up actually going over there and then they
- 1:29:42run into regular policeman because I guess E Nami was
- 1:29:44trying to show them like where she got the phone fix and that's
- 1:29:47where they actually meet for the first time.
- 1:29:50And then through that they, you know, have a conversation.
- 1:29:52And basically the detective tells Nami about his son, which
- 1:29:57leads her to like, figure out like, who he is.
- 1:30:00Very quickly though, before like she ended up at the repair shop,
- 1:30:04her phone. Because one thing that they
- 1:30:06bring out throughout the movie is like her phone, like.
- 1:30:09Constantly dying and her trying to charge it up.
- 1:30:11So it had actually her phone actually died at that point and
- 1:30:13she just threw it across the the cafe and like she had like the
- 1:30:17epiphany like Oh my gosh, this all started happening ever since
- 1:30:20my phone got repaired. So that's when she went back to
- 1:30:22the repair shop and then she meets the detectives.
- 1:30:24Glad you said that, because I did not pick that up.
- 1:30:26Yeah, I did not realize. That, Yeah.
- 1:30:29So that's when she started connecting the dots.
- 1:30:31That makes so much sense. I thought she was just going
- 1:30:34there to try to prove to the policeman.
- 1:30:35Like this is where I got my phone fixed.
- 1:30:38To connect the dots I mean. Probably that too.
- 1:30:40Yeah, that was the starting point.
- 1:30:42That makes more sense though. It's like she's smart and then.
- 1:30:45She just does stupid things. It's nothing.
- 1:30:47More like you can be book smart but not street smart at the same
- 1:30:50time. I have met people like that.
- 1:30:52It's real. Yeah.
- 1:30:53No, it. It truly is real.
- 1:30:56But yes. And then basically, throughout
- 1:30:57the conversation, I paraphrased a lot.
- 1:30:59But they figured out that it was him that installed the spyware.
- 1:31:02And where he said that where he said that he worked was a lie
- 1:31:08and that he's been watching her the whole time through the
- 1:31:10phone, just like he told him or told her that he was doing like
- 1:31:15someone else was doing. But it was really him.
- 1:31:17Yeah. And then so like, basically they
- 1:31:20devised a plan to, I guess, confront him and use, like, Nami
- 1:31:26as like a source because as you see, like she texts him and asks
- 1:31:30him over for dinner. Again, my notes were a little
- 1:31:33spotty. And I think this is around the
- 1:31:35time, like, even though this was my part, I was like paying
- 1:31:37attention. But it was kind of late at
- 1:31:39night. So I was like, trying to make
- 1:31:40sure I stayed awake. Yeah.
- 1:31:43So then like, she gets ready. She's communicating with the
- 1:31:46police, as you can see. Like they devised a way to where
- 1:31:48like they're following her, but to make sure, like no one can
- 1:31:52detect that they are following her or that anyone else is
- 1:31:56there. And then this part confused me
- 1:31:59when I first watched. It it's the part where like he
- 1:32:02does actually, you know, show up and he's standing outside and
- 1:32:05he's getting ready I guess to go in and she calls him, right.
- 1:32:09Nami calls June 1st, yeah, to see where he was.
- 1:32:14But he doesn't answer because I think he realizes he's being
- 1:32:18followed. Because there's a point where
- 1:32:19like he cuts it off, I thought. And then, you know, he holds up
- 1:32:23the phone to pretend he's looking at it, but then he
- 1:32:24looks, he's the reflection to see that.
- 1:32:27These are behind him because I thought it was interesting, you
- 1:32:30know, like when they actually do that, have that confrontation
- 1:32:33and when he turns around, you would think the police officer
- 1:32:37would recognize his own son. That was his son.
- 1:32:41Exactly. That was kind of like the early
- 1:32:43pothole. Be like, wait a minute.
- 1:32:45Now you know something's really off.
- 1:32:46Yeah. Because then his partner starts
- 1:32:49talking to him. He's like, sorry, we thought
- 1:32:51you're someone else. And then you know he uses that.
- 1:32:53I don't know who that who you're looking for.
- 1:32:55How dare you harass like a normal citizen.
- 1:32:58I should record you right now and things like that.
- 1:33:01And it's like, wait. And then I got confused at when
- 1:33:04I first watched this. I'm like but that is that there
- 1:33:07was June Young late fire. All he did was fix his hair and
- 1:33:21take off his glasses. Why are you guys pretending he's
- 1:33:10not him? I don't think he put on This is
- 1:33:12a Game of Thrones Argo Stark where he put on a different
- 1:33:15mask. He's a completely different
- 1:33:17person. And then when y'all leave, he
- 1:33:19takes off the. Do we ever see like a childhood
- 1:33:25photo of Ojiyang? No.
- 1:33:28Of him wearing glasses. If I still we don't even know if
- 1:33:31he, the real son even wears. Right.
- 1:33:34But I'm just saying the only thing so far that he changed
- 1:33:36about his appearance, it was like cut his hair a little bit
- 1:33:39and like take off his glasses, Yeah, which doesn't obviously,
- 1:33:43if you know, a person, minor things like that doesn't change.
- 1:33:46Like their whole thing this. Is your child you your child?
- 1:33:49You would recognize their face anywhere, despite what kind of
- 1:33:52clothing they're wearing. Exactly.
- 1:33:53Or wig. Or whatever.
- 1:33:55Yes, like you, you know what your child looks like.
- 1:33:59Yeah, if you've been around them.
- 1:34:01That's why I was confused on the age thing.
- 1:34:02Like, I want to know when he actually left because, I mean,
- 1:34:05you can look different from a child to a grown person.
- 1:34:07But I feel like it wasn't that significant of a difference to
- 1:34:10where he would change that drastically, Like say if he
- 1:34:13like, left at 5:00 and then he found them again at 30 and
- 1:34:15things like that. So I would understand if you
- 1:34:19don't recognize him, but if he was like around a teenager or
- 1:34:22younger, 20s and seven years, you, I don't really.
- 1:34:26Say that big of a difference. Yeah.
- 1:34:28And your face that much, whether you like, gain weight, lose
- 1:34:31weight, things like that, unless you have like plastic surgery or
- 1:34:33something. But yeah, so then that happens.
- 1:34:37And the end of the way, he doesn't go into the house.
- 1:34:39And then they meet up with Nami and they're like, you know, they
- 1:34:43thought the plan had failed the whole time.
- 1:34:45But like, if they had known who they were looking for, it worked
- 1:34:48out perfectly. So it did work, but it's like
- 1:34:51confusion that will figure out later on.
- 1:34:55And they're like, I wonder why. Like he said he was at the front
- 1:34:58of the house, you know, we texted and then he all of a
- 1:35:00sudden he's like something came up or he couldn't come.
- 1:35:05Just a whole confusion through all of them.
- 1:35:06They basically think they missed Judy on that they have to buy us
- 1:35:09another plan to try to catch him.
- 1:35:11But then I don't know if she said she didn't feel safe to be
- 1:35:16there because they end up taking her to her father's house.
- 1:35:18I don't remember why they end up taking her.
- 1:35:21He was house. I think they told her that she
- 1:35:25needed to go somewhere in case like he comes back.
- 1:35:29Yeah. So just for like, safety
- 1:35:31measures, is there anyone that you can go to thinks of her best
- 1:35:33friend and she's like, now that's dead, so she goes to her
- 1:35:38dad's house, he switches phones right before they go?
- 1:35:40Yeah, yeah, So they were on the rooftop discussing it.
- 1:35:44And she's like, don't worry, I don't have my phone, he can't
- 1:35:46hear me, blah, blah blah. And then she's like, oh, I have
- 1:35:49another phone. I'll use that to come in,
- 1:35:50communicate with you guys. And so they're like, OK, fine,
- 1:35:54they devised their plan and like, that's when they, like,
- 1:35:57dropped her off. That's why I was going to
- 1:35:58confuse if the spyware he planted was physical or not.
- 1:36:04But there is a point where she downloads another link, right?
- 1:36:07Does she think it was from her father now that you said that
- 1:36:10pointed that out earlier because he was able?
- 1:36:12She downloads another link. See, that's what I thought.
- 1:36:14I thought she downloaded another link, but this whole time I
- 1:36:17thought the spyware was in the chip because when she transfers
- 1:36:20phones he was still able to hack the new.
- 1:36:22So I didn't think you'd be able to do that unless the spyware
- 1:36:26was in the SIM card itself, But another part of me feels like I
- 1:36:31had missed something. You know there could be
- 1:36:32different versions of that Same thing of what?
- 1:36:35The. Act so it is possible.
- 1:36:37It is possible that for her since he had access to her SIM
- 1:36:41card, he put it directly in it and then with the dad he just
- 1:36:44sent a link. So it is possible I'm still
- 1:36:46confusing the whole thing and it's like I feel like even if I
- 1:36:48watch this another third time, I still wouldn't understand it.
- 1:36:51Just the tech. Technology part of it, yeah, but
- 1:36:54yes. And then she thinks, you know,
- 1:36:56her father is like sleeping in the bed because then I thought
- 1:37:00he starts texting her, I put in my nose.
- 1:37:02Like he starts texting her and messaging her.
- 1:37:04And then when like when he starts doing stuff in her phone,
- 1:37:08like when she, I think he either recorded, not recorded, He had
- 1:37:13shown herself on the phone and then she started typing stuff
- 1:37:18in, he was deleting it. So that's how she knew like he
- 1:37:20was in this phone as well because that was causes her to
- 1:37:23run into her father's room and realize like it was a bunch of
- 1:37:26pills to make it look like he was sleeping.
- 1:37:27He wasn't actually there. So I'd say that.
- 1:37:29Again, when did this happen? When she got to her father's
- 1:37:33house. She went to his room and it
- 1:37:36looked like, you know, you know, like an old shows where they put
- 1:37:38pillows together to make it look like someone's sleeping with the
- 1:37:41covers over the head. Yeah.
- 1:37:42So she went into, I guess, what her room was like.
- 1:37:45It must have been like a childhood house.
- 1:37:48Yeah. And then that's where I was.
- 1:37:49Like once you said it was a app. I'm like, I feel like someone or
- 1:37:53something texted her to redownload the app because then
- 1:37:57Ooh Ju Young starts actually communicating with her and I
- 1:38:01forgot what he had said to make her realize.
- 1:38:06So she turned on her phone. She turned on her phone.
- 1:38:10OK, yeah, yeah, She turned on her phone.
- 1:38:13And. He texts her.
- 1:38:15He's like, oh, I see you got a new phone.
- 1:38:17Me too. Me too.
- 1:38:19And he sends her his new number and he was like, call me or text
- 1:38:23me or something. And that is when she like,
- 1:38:25freaked out. Like, for sure he starts
- 1:38:27manipulating the phone. Like I said, he turned it around
- 1:38:30and she was like a video of herself and then when she was
- 1:38:33going to start calling the police people, he was deleting
- 1:38:35it and things like that. That's why I made her run into
- 1:38:38the father's room to try to alert him.
- 1:38:41And then she realized he's not actually in there, so.
- 1:38:44Yeah, And then when she comes back to the living room, he
- 1:38:47peeps out. What?
- 1:38:47This was creepy. He peeps out with his little
- 1:38:49phone. So he's, he's playing a clip of
- 1:38:51them in the car. So at first she only hears her
- 1:38:53father's voice and she's like, dad, are you in here?
- 1:38:56And then when she runs into the living room, that's what he,
- 1:38:59like slowly creep. And I thought it was like, it
- 1:39:02was like a robot type thing, like an automated like thing
- 1:39:05that he used to put the phone on to lift it up until he popped
- 1:39:08up. And I was like, Oh no, he's
- 1:39:10still in the house. I forgot that's where he went to
- 1:39:12hide. Was in her house.
- 1:39:14Yeah, so all that he was playing, the recording of them
- 1:39:17talking in the car, basically warning her about him.
- 1:39:20And it's like, oh, you know, you should listen to your father.
- 1:39:23I am not. Good news, yeah.
- 1:39:26And basically taunting her like the whole time basically says
- 1:39:30like he'll play a game, I think, with her.
- 1:39:32Like, if someone's able to contact her within the next 24
- 1:39:36hours, then he'll let her live, even though we know that's not
- 1:39:39true. And of course, he cut off all
- 1:39:41the ties to make sure that wasn't true.
- 1:39:44Yeah. And then he also makes her text
- 1:39:46the detectives to tell them like, everything's okay, don't
- 1:39:48check up with me. I'll contact you in the morning
- 1:39:50so they don't get suspicious. And then at the same time that
- 1:39:52is happening, that's when we find out one of the really big
- 1:39:55plots was, which we were kind of already into, that that the
- 1:39:57detectives, when they're heading back to the station, they get a
- 1:40:00phone call from someone that works there.
- 1:40:02And it must be someone with that.
- 1:40:05You said they work with the missing people's.
- 1:40:08Unit okay so must have one of their colleagues.
- 1:40:10So basically he had told him that he had ran ADNA test on
- 1:40:16Ujiman to see if anyone comes up as missing, I guess to put his
- 1:40:21DNA in the system. But then it ended up matching
- 1:40:23with an unidentified body that they had found in the reserve a
- 1:40:27year ago. So that's when they're like,
- 1:40:30wait, because his partner first told him, They're like, they're
- 1:40:32saying that they found your son, but it's it's not what you think
- 1:40:35it is. And they're like, where is he?
- 1:40:37Is he you? Know some Sir, is it with his
- 1:40:39mother? Does she put him like and I take
- 1:40:40her hideout And then after that is when they turn around and go
- 1:40:45to back to Nami's house because I don't know if he had saw the
- 1:40:49text. We saw the phone on the floor of
- 1:40:52her texting him, but we don't know if he actually had saw it
- 1:40:55because he was too busy on the phone talking to the person as a
- 1:40:59detective. So then a little bit later on
- 1:41:01when he's do, Young is still talking to Nami.
- 1:41:04He like, goes to the bathroom for some odd reason and then,
- 1:41:07like she follows him and then realizes that her father is
- 1:41:10actually in there, tied up in the bathtub.
- 1:41:12Before, before he goes there, she has like, this little paper
- 1:41:16in her hand and like, for some reason when they're like
- 1:41:19talking, she's like frustrated and she throws his paper on the
- 1:41:22ground. Yeah, that paper becomes
- 1:41:23important a little because I couldn't remember how he found
- 1:41:26the paper or not. Yeah, yeah, she goes it at him
- 1:41:30because I I think she, you know, she was secretly trying to get
- 1:41:32the knife like out of her back pocket.
- 1:41:35But I think he knew she had it there.
- 1:41:37So I don't know if she did that because he was telling her like
- 1:41:40don't bother trying to stab me with the knife.
- 1:41:42I know you have hiding back there, but yes.
- 1:41:45And then we get to the scene in the bathroom and he, you know,
- 1:41:49makes her tie herself up. And I this I didn't.
- 1:41:54This is what happens when I don't go into detail with my
- 1:41:56notes because I didn't write down what he said to her.
- 1:41:59But he basically starts like, you know, turning on the water.
- 1:42:02I don't know if she had said something to like make him mad
- 1:42:05or he was just doing it for fun. Like, he listened to me, but I'm
- 1:42:08not going to listen to you anyway.
- 1:42:10And then, you know, if she starts cussing him out, which
- 1:42:13shocked me, I was like, oh damn, I know she.
- 1:42:16Had a math, so they had like an exchange of words.
- 1:42:18I don't remember what the words were, but like, she tells him,
- 1:42:22like, hey, I kept my side of the bargain.
- 1:42:25Like I kept my word. You should keep your word too.
- 1:42:27And so he's like, yeah, I am keeping my word.
- 1:42:30Proceeds to turn on faucet and then then she starts crying and
- 1:42:33like basically grubbling, telling him to stop.
- 1:42:36And so he stops eventually. When she's like, I'm sorry, she
- 1:42:39cuts him out first. Yeah, But then she apologizes
- 1:42:42and she's like, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I apologize.
- 1:42:44And then, like, he turns it off and then she goes, yeah,
- 1:42:47basically when you finish your part, I'm trying to figure out
- 1:42:51where to leave off on that because I don't remember.
- 1:42:54Also, after she's apologizing, what happened?
- 1:42:56Because, you know, he just ends up putting her in there anyway
- 1:42:59and then. Oh, no, no, yeah, yeah.
- 1:43:01So she apologizes and she's like, I'll do anything you want
- 1:43:04me to do. And he's like, oh, anything.
- 1:43:07And she's like, yes, I'll do anything.
- 1:43:09And then he goes this sadistic and he goes, he goes, OK, why
- 1:43:15don't you kill him? And then he just drops her into
- 1:43:18the the tub and because of her weight.
- 1:43:21So it's either like she survives or the dad survives because like
- 1:43:24there's no none of them survive because he leaves the faucet on.
- 1:43:28She's also, you know. Right.
- 1:43:30But like it was kind of like a situation if the faucet was not
- 1:43:33on, like. Only one of them would be able
- 1:43:35to, like, come up, but because he left the faucet on, like her
- 1:43:39body weight was crushing him down and then eventually she
- 1:43:41also was submerged into the water.
- 1:43:43So honestly, I feel like either way, I use for both of them to
- 1:43:46die. Exactly.
- 1:43:47Yeah. Because I'm sure she wouldn't
- 1:43:49have sacrificed herself if she ended up, you know, killing the
- 1:43:52father along. So yeah, so then he goes back
- 1:43:55into the living room, basically just leaving in the them in
- 1:43:58there to meet their demise and then ends up picking up the note
- 1:44:05that mommy threw at him. And then he opens it up and then
- 1:44:08he reads where it said call call them, don't text them.
- 1:44:13So then like he realized his mistakes too quick because he
- 1:44:16made her text. The police officers like don't
- 1:44:18check up on me and when they got a text they knew something was
- 1:44:21wrong because she's supposed to call them instead.
- 1:44:24But then they show up I. Don't know if we mentioned this,
- 1:44:26but like when they were dropping her off like in front of the
- 1:44:29dad's house, that's when she like stuck up the little note.
- 1:44:33That said, no text calls only like that part.
- 1:44:36They didn't. They didn't.
- 1:44:37They didn't say any of that. They just add like a visual.
- 1:44:40That's why she wrote it. So they wouldn't physically say
- 1:44:42it in case he was listening. Yeah, I didn't mention that
- 1:44:45because I forgot it's. Not that we missed it that I
- 1:44:49forgot so, but yes, the feast has a point.
- 1:44:52That's why I was written on the note in the 1st place when she
- 1:44:55got dropped off and so they knew wasn't verbally exchanged.
- 1:44:59It was on the note the whole time and she just kept the note,
- 1:45:02so I'm surprised she didn't give it to them.
- 1:45:04So they will remember, but I mean, I guess they're supposed
- 1:45:06to be police and remember something that important.
- 1:45:09You know, it was just a ploy to move the story a lot, I guess.
- 1:45:12So like basically when they show up, they confront him.
- 1:45:15The partner, Kim Jung Ho goes and runs and looks for them and
- 1:45:19then founds them in the bathroom and then he pulls them out of
- 1:45:22the bathtub and basically giving her father like CPR to
- 1:45:25resuscitate him because I'm assuming at that point he it's
- 1:45:29either pass out or stop breathing.
- 1:45:31I don't know how long he was under God.
- 1:45:33I think it was assumed he was dead.
- 1:45:36And then Ujiman basically confronts, I call him now the
- 1:45:40fake you young and speeding him up, asking him where his son is.
- 1:45:45And then that's where he basically confessed that he had
- 1:45:47met the son a year ago. So the body they found was his
- 1:45:50son. So he was impersonating his son
- 1:45:53this whole time? Yeah.
- 1:45:55That's why he didn't recognize him when they first confronted
- 1:45:57on the street. Because I'm not your son and.
- 1:46:02This is one thing that they did really good with the detail, the
- 1:46:04psychopath, when they wrote his character, Remember how I was
- 1:46:07like, oh, because of like they planted a plum tree and
- 1:46:10everything? Yeah, he knew that information.
- 1:46:12So he just played the part really well because like we
- 1:46:15said, I don't know if you also mentioned this in part one, but
- 1:46:18because all of his victims, he writes down handwritten notes
- 1:46:22about like their traits and stuff like whole.
- 1:46:24And he'll write down questions like, oh, this is the best
- 1:46:27friend, da, da, da. They go and so and so and then
- 1:46:30he'll even write down questions like should I do this to them?
- 1:46:33Should I torture them in this way?
- 1:46:34So the information that he brought over to Nami's house was
- 1:46:38about his son that the detective found in the back and it had his
- 1:46:42name like victim so and so and his name.
- 1:46:46Making a Murderer, like doesn't have a relationship with his
- 1:46:49father left seven years ago. Mother is sick.
- 1:46:52Should I take his identity and become him?
- 1:46:56And then he also finds another phone where we didn't mention
- 1:46:59earlier where he likes to take pictures of his victims after
- 1:47:02they've passed. So the screensaver, literally
- 1:47:05when the phone comes up is up, his son gone.
- 1:47:08There's no life in those eyes. You see one eye and then half of
- 1:47:11his waters and or half of his face is in water.
- 1:47:13Excuse me. And you, you can tell like it
- 1:47:16was freshly taken after the life was out of him.
- 1:47:19Yeah. And then that's when all hell
- 1:47:20breaks loose. I mean, I know he was already
- 1:47:22beating him up, but then, like, he takes out his gun
- 1:47:24contemplating of whether he should kill him or not.
- 1:47:26But then something happens to where like Nami kind of starts
- 1:47:30like getting consciousness and she looks over and sees her
- 1:47:33father getting CPR, wondering if he's going to live or not.
- 1:47:36And then it's just like all in slow motion, which I thought
- 1:47:38this part was pretty good too, just to show like her snapping
- 1:47:40and then like she looks over because she can see where he's
- 1:47:43on the floor like all bloody and stuff and being beat up and.
- 1:47:46I think he stopped moving at one point, like his head.
- 1:47:49Just, you know, I think he was laughing and then like, he just
- 1:47:52happened to look up, look at her and he smiled at her and that's
- 1:47:54when she was like, oh, enough is enough and so.
- 1:47:58He looked at her, yeah, He looked up at her and he was
- 1:48:00like, what? Like, he just mouthed it.
- 1:48:02But yeah, to do so she did so think that was the
- 1:48:07personalification of, oh, you don't think I'm going to do
- 1:48:10anything? Watch this, gonna F around and
- 1:48:13find out it's so. That was the first time I saw
- 1:48:16fear in that boy's eyes. Like, exactly.
- 1:48:19So when the rightfully so partner is giving CPR, I don't
- 1:48:23think they show when she takes it, but she ends taking his gun
- 1:48:27slowly, walks over there and you know, did the deed that the
- 1:48:30father couldn't, Officer couldn't or couldn't.
- 1:48:33Why, I'm not sure. But yeah, it just took two shots
- 1:48:37to the stomach. He didn't die, though.
- 1:48:38He didn't die because the next scene we go to, the news
- 1:48:41reports, you know, kind of like how the beginning, it's like a
- 1:48:44full circle of like showing everyone.
- 1:48:46Before before the news reports. The second, like she shoots him.
- 1:48:50Um, her dad wakes up, Yeah. Wakes up and comes back to life.
- 1:48:54Goes back over there and then, like, you know, hugs him and all
- 1:48:57that, Yeah, which is great. So he didn't end up dying.
- 1:48:59Yeah, or else she would have been charged with murder.
- 1:49:01Like, again, I don't know how the laws work over there.
- 1:49:03Well actually I don't know if she would because the officer
- 1:49:05took the gun from her so he would have made it seem like he
- 1:49:08did it instead of her. I don't know how the law works
- 1:49:10so I don't know how the self. Defense laws.
- 1:49:12So that was like an actual scene.
- 1:49:14Like he took the, I don't know how their walls work, if she
- 1:49:18would have even gotten, yeah, I don't know what their
- 1:49:21self-defense laws are like. So I can't comment on that
- 1:49:24because I also thought that was interesting, but that might be
- 1:49:27something in the law that I'm unaware of.
- 1:49:29Yeah, Yeah. So what I was saying earlier was
- 1:49:32like we go back into like a full circle basically like at the
- 1:49:35beginning scene of everyone, like just regular people on
- 1:49:38their phones going up and down the subway, taking the bus,
- 1:49:40things like that. And then they're reporting on,
- 1:49:44you know, the incident that happened and you don't, you
- 1:49:46know, they don't usually give out names.
- 1:49:48I think after every crime they always label like victim A or
- 1:49:51victim B or things like that, talking about the situation.
- 1:49:55And yes, we find out that Fake Junior is he's recovering, he
- 1:49:59hasn't woken up yet. But for I also thought it was
- 1:50:02interesting because he's basically an unidentified man.
- 1:50:06There's like no records of him. I don't know if he knew that.
- 1:50:08They didn't know who he was and it would be.
- 1:50:10He wasn't registered at. Birth.
- 1:50:12Yeah. Wait, how did he live?
- 1:50:14How did they get away with that, though?
- 1:50:17I don't because I don't think he was supposed to be like a
- 1:50:20foreigner. I'm pretty sure he was supposed
- 1:50:23to be like a born and raised Korean man.
- 1:50:26I don't know. I thought that car was
- 1:50:27interesting. So, like, we don't actually ever
- 1:50:29find out who he is or his name anything.
- 1:50:32He's just an unidentified man who apparently was just killing
- 1:50:35for fun. And they said they'll try to
- 1:50:37look more into it when he actually wakes up, I guess maybe
- 1:50:39to question him. But yeah.
- 1:50:42And then basically the very last scene is not me.
- 1:50:46At the cafe. Well, you see a bunch of, like,
- 1:50:48texts and like people talk about the situation going back and
- 1:50:51forth. And there's one where it talks
- 1:50:52about I forgot her fake Instagram, like, screen name.
- 1:50:55But they're like, I'm in the cafe where so and so works and
- 1:50:58they're like, what? I don't believe you.
- 1:51:00And you know, he goes take a picture, show proof for his
- 1:51:03friend. And then like Nami, like is
- 1:51:05laughing with her father and her best friend.
- 1:51:07So I guess they made-up. And then like she gets this
- 1:51:10weird look in her face and looks in the direction of the camera,
- 1:51:12like she knew someone was going to take a picture of her.
- 1:51:15And then that's where the movie ends.
- 1:51:17Yeah, so, yeah, yeah, I mean, happy kind of story, I guess.
- 1:51:23You know, he was caught. He survived.
- 1:51:26No, he's not in jail for shooting him.
- 1:51:29Don't know what happened to the detective or his wife because
- 1:51:33obviously he would have to tell her her son is dead and she is
- 1:51:37already sick. So I wonder how that work.
- 1:51:40We don't know if they had a funeral for him.
- 1:51:42I'm sure they did, but. The fact that she was sending
- 1:51:46him like punch on and everything to like all the different
- 1:51:50addresses that he sent. Impersonating the son is just,
- 1:51:53well, it's sad but at the same time like she thought that was
- 1:51:57her child so she's going to help her child in any way to make
- 1:52:01sure he survives. But and that's probably why the
- 1:52:04report earlier on in the movie that you talked about of him
- 1:52:07saying, you know for fraud, he filed police report for like
- 1:52:11money being taken. I was caught for fraud because
- 1:52:14it was the fake too young when. He was torturing him.
- 1:52:17She took to money. Yeah, since he was a victim.
- 1:52:20That's how he gets them first. You know, hacks their stuff,
- 1:52:23goes into, like, their personal lives.
- 1:52:25I wonder how he killed him. Like what lured him to, like, be
- 1:52:29led, especially out there? Like, was he killing them out
- 1:52:33there or was he killing them somewhere else and then dragging
- 1:52:35their bodies out there? I don't know.
- 1:52:38Again, a lot of questions. I'm sure it's not important,
- 1:52:41right? I'm just curious.
- 1:52:43I just wish they went into the back story between the
- 1:52:46investigator and his son a little bit more.
- 1:52:49And then just like basically a quick like how did they meet?
- 1:52:52Like how did the impersonator and the sun meet?
- 1:52:55You know, because the way they make the scene, the way they
- 1:52:58make the sun scene in the movie is that he's not somebody.
- 1:53:02That can kill somebody. That's another thing too.
- 1:53:04It was crazy to me from the beginning when he had found the
- 1:53:08plant, like the palm tree that they planted, that he
- 1:53:11automatically assumed that he was the killer.
- 1:53:14So that's why I wanna know what happened to where he, his son
- 1:53:18was the killer. Like, he didn't hesitate to
- 1:53:20think his son was the killer. He didn't try to.
- 1:53:22He didn't like, offend or anything.
- 1:53:24He automatically thought it was him.
- 1:53:26So it's like, what happened? Why would you?
- 1:53:28Why would a parent automatically think their son was capable of
- 1:53:32that? Because the fake Julio had to
- 1:53:34tell him that his son couldn't hurt a fly.
- 1:53:37So why do you think he was capable of murder?
- 1:53:40Because yeah. Yeah, they're like, like I said,
- 1:53:44more emphasis on that back story I think would have made a little
- 1:53:48more sense as far as like the plot is concerned.
- 1:53:51Yeah, yeah. Overall, though, I think the
- 1:53:54message has been sent to loud and clear.
- 1:53:57Be careful of your technology. Be careful of your phone.
- 1:54:00Do not drink if you're gonna drink in public.
- 1:54:02Hello. Make sure you have all your
- 1:54:04things with you. I'm surprised you do not lose
- 1:54:05your phone. Right.
- 1:54:09Yeah, and like, she was just traveling back by herself.
- 1:54:12But I think that's very normal for like people to travel back
- 1:54:14by themselves and. Especially if it's like on a bus
- 1:54:17Korea. And like I I'll applaud her for
- 1:54:20not like having a car and doing, like, anything stupid like drunk
- 1:54:22driving. Yeah, stupid reports I see of
- 1:54:25like Francis K, pop idols who just be out drinking and then
- 1:54:28they decide to drunk drive. It's like, no, take a look.
- 1:54:31Answer call somebody. Right.
- 1:54:33Your transportation system is pretty good there.
- 1:54:36You can you have options or because only have places like
- 1:54:40arcade places where it's basically 24 hours, like don't
- 1:54:44be ashamed to go rent out like a one of those gaming places and
- 1:54:48just take a quick nap. I would do that.
- 1:54:51Or you can go to those like sauna places too.
- 1:54:53Or like even the comic book. Again, there's just so many
- 1:54:56options. There's.
- 1:54:57Options. Yeah, there's no need to jump
- 1:55:00drag. There's a saying of Walk of
- 1:55:02Shame like there is here, but just take the walk of shame
- 1:55:05because you're saving not only your life, but someone else's.
- 1:55:09Others. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:55:13And like one other thing that kind of like, I wish we knew
- 1:55:15more of is like, I guess we kind of touched on this, but like the
- 1:55:19psycho as a person, I want to know who he was.
- 1:55:23Like his background story? Like, where did he come from?
- 1:55:26Weird. Like, weird.
- 1:55:28Random. Why?
- 1:55:28How did he pick his people other than like their phone?
- 1:55:31You know? Like, why does he choose to go?
- 1:55:33Because there's no way out of all these years, he only picked
- 1:55:36eight people. Like, you know, that doesn't
- 1:55:38make sense. I think this was part of like,
- 1:55:40he's just a psychopath of it's just random and he just does
- 1:55:44this for fun. I think they were just trying to
- 1:55:46give the impression like he doesn't really truly have a
- 1:55:48motive except for boredom. I also wanted to know how he
- 1:55:51afforded places because did they pay him to have their phone
- 1:55:56fixed? No, because I think every time
- 1:55:58they're like, oh, like someone dropped it off and they fixed it
- 1:56:01for free. So how is he affording certain
- 1:56:04stuff? Maybe he does have actual
- 1:56:06customers, but like, these are the special ones, you know?
- 1:56:09I know, maybe. I don't know.
- 1:56:11Which again goes back to how do you pick your people if all of
- 1:56:14these people are coming to get their phones fixed like he had a
- 1:56:16job. And then again, if he did have a
- 1:56:18job, how would he have gotten a job personating as well?
- 1:56:23Did he steal like his identifications and all that?
- 1:56:26Like Social Security numbers, ID cards?
- 1:56:28He. Probably did.
- 1:56:30He probably did like his victims.
- 1:56:32He probably bled them dry before you know.
- 1:56:34They also want to know, like, how who he was impersonating
- 1:56:38before he decided to impersonate Julian, You know, to survive.
- 1:56:48Maybe he was just himself, you know?
- 1:56:42Yeah, he's obviously been doing this for a very long time and
- 1:56:45Julian was now killed a year ago.
- 1:56:50Well, if he was just observed then they would be able to
- 1:56:53identify him at the hospital without having to wait for him
- 1:56:55to wake up. That's true.
- 1:56:57I don't know. If they ever decide to do like a
- 1:56:59Part 2 of this movie, I would like that to be the emphasis.
- 1:57:02I mean, like I said earlier, the book that it's, you know, based
- 1:57:07off of, they did a part one and two in the Japanese film.
- 1:57:11So I don't know if they're going to do a Part 2 for this, but I
- 1:57:13wouldn't be surprised if they don't.
- 1:57:14Yeah, I think this is a good excuse me one time watch.
- 1:57:17Probably wouldn't want to watch it again just because of, like,
- 1:57:20all the potholes and everything. Yeah, I only had to watch it
- 1:57:23again for this, so yeah. Overall, I'd rate this like a
- 1:57:26four out of five. It kept me glued, like I was
- 1:57:29paying attention. OK.
- 1:57:30At first you said four and I was like, don't we usually do out of
- 1:57:3210? So that would be like 8 out of
- 1:57:3410. OK, yeah, I'd give it an 8 out
- 1:57:36of 10. No, actually I bumped that to
- 1:57:3888.5 out of 10 just because I did learn quite a few things.
- 1:57:42OK, I think I would give this either A7 or 7.5 out of 10.
- 1:57:47I think the plot was just bothered me a little bit more
- 1:57:49than it needed to. Too many, yeah.
- 1:57:51I just, I really just wanted to know what happened between the
- 1:57:54father and the son, and I feel like that would have made some
- 1:57:56sense of why he suspected him to be the killer.
- 1:57:59That was one that was just the main thing that bothered me.
- 1:58:02Not like why they were estranged or anything, just why you would
- 1:58:05automatically assume assume. Your child, is it?
- 1:58:09I think it would have been better though if like the main
- 1:58:11storyline was the detective. Stiff storyline and nammies
- 1:58:15would like secondary because that would have been, yeah, that
- 1:58:19would have made way more sense and more of like a cohesive like
- 1:58:22story too. Yeah.
- 1:58:23And I don't know if that was because we're trying to show
- 1:58:26like the lack of awareness we have with our technology, maybe
- 1:58:31to focus more on her story, but I do see what you mean.
- 1:58:34It would have been interesting if it was which.
- 1:58:36Yeah, but I also think if they did, so I guess it's a double
- 1:58:39edged sword, like if they did it.
- 1:58:41Like that. Then I guess maybe we wouldn't
- 1:58:43have reflected as much as like, Oh my gosh, they could
- 1:58:46technically happen to us. Whereas if it was like the
- 1:58:49detective story, it's like something that has already
- 1:58:51happened. It's like, oh, this is just
- 1:58:53another case. But like with her, we kind of
- 1:58:55lived every part of it with her, you know, I'm still going to
- 1:58:58give it 7.5 out of 10 I think also just because both parts,
- 1:59:03because it's like 2 hours. I was sorry, not lose interest,
- 1:59:06but I was just like. I think they could have better
- 1:59:08used those two hours and they also cut it off like very
- 1:59:12abruptly, like after he had kidnapped them and stuff to
- 1:59:15where he just shot and then over.
- 1:59:17I don't know, like maybe I was a little more interested to see
- 1:59:20like the aftermath because I mean, yes, life does go on after
- 1:59:25stuff like that, but I wanted to see like how And it it was
- 1:59:29surprising to me how quickly she was able to.
- 1:59:31I mean, it could be like up front, but she's putting up, but
- 1:59:34just be out, comfortable to like be out and stuff like that.
- 1:59:37Because they also don't give us a timeline.
- 1:59:39So I don't know how long it actually took.
- 1:59:41Like after the whole incident, it was a couple months.
- 1:59:44It was just a few days after, you know, that's true.
- 1:59:47But then again, I just could be that person who just looks too
- 1:59:50much into it and I just need to watch the movie.
- 1:59:52Yeah. No, I understand what you mean.
- 1:59:54Like having some sort of timeline helps.
- 1:59:57I could just be nut picky like that though.
- 1:59:58But yeah, that was us for that was all from us guys.
- 2:00:03I hope you enjoyed it. Yeah, when?
- 2:00:08Please follow us on our socials. I was thinking pod.
- 2:00:13On Instagram and social media. Or on social media?
- 2:00:16Oh my God. On Instagram and Twitter, those
- 2:00:19are social medias. You can also listen to us on
- 2:00:24YouTube if you'd like to listen to podcasts on YouTube, but I
- 2:00:27was thinking POD or podcast. I don't remember the actual
- 2:00:31handle. You can follow me on TikTok as
- 2:00:34Simonetta says under score. Again, I mostly talk about K Pop
- 2:00:39BTS, but you also know by now if you've listened to us for this
- 2:00:44long. What else you can e-mail us at I
- 2:00:48was thinking pod@gmail.com for any questions or suggestions on
- 2:00:54episodes, rate us. Whatever the highest ratings
- 2:00:58are, whether they're five stars, 5 apples, 5 Squares, we would
- 2:01:03really appreciate it because we don't really get a lot of
- 2:01:05interactions. Again, I know people listen to
- 2:01:08us, but it would be nice to know that you guys listen to us.
- 2:01:13For this, comments we usually get are the spam box on
- 2:01:15Instagram. So is there anything else am I
- 2:01:18missing? No, I think you covered it.
- 2:01:20OK, well, yes, I've been small. That's been the feast.
- 2:01:23We be back. I don't know, but just look out
- 2:01:26for the next episode. And we hope you have a lovely
- 2:01:28day, week, month, all that good stuff.
- 2:01:33So bye guys. Bye, bye.
