- 0:00Speaker 1: The Trump administration's search for evidence in the twenty twenty
- 0:03Speaker 1: election has reached another state. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports
- 0:07Speaker 1: an FBI agent interviewed a high ranking Wisconsin election official
- 0:11Speaker 1: this week to discuss how elections are carried out in
- 0:15Speaker 1: these state and various election theories. Robert Keyhoe, the Elections
- 0:19Speaker 1: Commission's deputy administrator, debunked false claims and clarified how elections work,
- 0:25Speaker 1: according to the Journal Sentinels sources. Meanwhile, the federal government
- 0:29Speaker 1: is also expanding its investigative powers in Georgia after seizing
- 0:33Speaker 1: twenty twenty ballots from Fulton County. Now the DOJ is
- 0:37Speaker 1: demanding the names of election workers who worked the polls
- 0:40Speaker 1: there in twenty twenty, according to court documents obtained by
- 0:43Speaker 1: The New York Times. Joining me now, Jenni Griswold, Colorado
- 0:47Speaker 1: Secretary of State and candidate for Attorney General. Welcome, my friend.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Good to see you so, Secretary, election workers and public
- 0:53Speaker 1: election officials. I don't have to tell you they are
- 0:56Speaker 1: under the microscope big time.
- 0:58Speaker 2: But why now?
- 1:00Speaker 1: What is it that federal investigators are looking to achieve?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Well for self? Thanks for having me, Happy Mothers Day
- 1:09Speaker 2: and the thank you, the bigger question is what is
- 1:14Speaker 2: Trump hoping to achieve. He has weaponized the entire administration
- 1:19Speaker 2: into continually trying to prove his twenty twenty big wives
- 1:23Speaker 2: in the conspiracy about elections. Courts have debunked these conspiracies
- 1:28Speaker 2: over and over and over again, but Trump is dead
- 1:31Speaker 2: set on them. Why to try to lay the groundwork
- 1:34Speaker 2: for rejecting election results. That's what all of this is about.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I think we can count on it that if MAGA
- 1:42Speaker 2: loses in twenty twenty six, Trump and his allies will
- 1:45Speaker 2: point to the conspiracies that they themselves are creating to
- 1:49Speaker 2: try to reject the results. And that is highly dangerous
- 1:52Speaker 2: for democracy.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So this is not about Donald Trump not living comfortably
- 1:59Speaker 1: with the moniker loser in twenty twenty. And when you
- 2:01Speaker 1: think there is almost a sinister intent behind them.
- 2:07Speaker 2: You know, I can't speak directly to every situation that
- 2:11Speaker 2: he is seeking his DOJ on right, I have as
- 2:14Speaker 2: much public information as you, but I think that is
- 2:17Speaker 2: absolutely the big picture. He tried to steal the presidency
- 2:22Speaker 2: in twenty twenty, and he is attacking the twenty twenty
- 2:25Speaker 2: six elections from weaponizing the DOJ to go after anyone
- 2:30Speaker 2: who doesn't agree with him to having the DOJ to
- 2:33Speaker 2: try to collect sensitive voter data, which, by the way,
- 2:36Speaker 2: alex I refuse to hand over. They're suing me and
- 2:39Speaker 2: many other secretaries of state right now to his push
- 2:42Speaker 2: to suppress the vote, to the corrupt redistricting they're trying
- 2:46Speaker 2: to do across the country. Trump is trying to grab
- 2:49Speaker 2: onto power, and he is laying the groundwork to failing
- 2:54Speaker 2: at his attempt. So what I think we need to
- 2:57Speaker 2: do is just remain steadfast, fight any effort to suppress
- 3:01Speaker 2: the vote, push back on these conspiracies, and urge Americans
- 3:06Speaker 2: to make a plan to vote. He is afraid of
- 3:09Speaker 2: the power of the American people. That's why we're seeing
- 3:11Speaker 2: these attempts escalate.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So that lawsuit that you are facing, do you have
- 3:15Speaker 1: any concern that it could be something you would lose
- 3:18Speaker 1: or do you strongly believe and know for a fact
- 3:21Speaker 1: that you're the law on your side.
- 3:24Speaker 2: We are very confident in the lawsuit. And to be clear,
- 3:28Speaker 2: Trump has asked his DOJ has demanded various states hand
- 3:33Speaker 2: over sensitive voter data. So we're talking about driver's license
- 3:39Speaker 2: or last four of social security numbers. We do not
- 3:42Speaker 2: believe that they have the right to this information. So
- 3:45Speaker 2: we're fighting back. But Trump has been trying to get
- 3:48Speaker 2: this information in various ways. It's been part of his
- 3:52Speaker 2: failed legislative attempts in Congress. He also issued an executive
- 3:58Speaker 2: order on elections various states are now fighting in court
- 4:02Speaker 2: that would direct his administration to compile a list of
- 4:05Speaker 2: voters who are acceptable in his eyes to receive a
- 4:08Speaker 2: male ballot. Again, big picture, he is trying to suppress
- 4:13Speaker 2: the vote. He is trying to grab onto authority that
- 4:15Speaker 2: he does not have. And I am confident that we
- 4:18Speaker 2: are going to win the lawsuits, but more than that,
- 4:22Speaker 2: win the fight for the soul of this country, and
- 4:24Speaker 2: that is a representative democracy and free and fair elections.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So the Supreme Court decision, though effectively gutting the Voting
- 4:34Speaker 1: Rights Act, has resulted in an election and redistricting mess.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Louisiana delay its primaries even though tens of thousands of
- 4:42Speaker 1: early ballots had been mailed in. You have states moving
- 4:45Speaker 1: to redraw maps days and weeks before primaries are set
- 4:48Speaker 1: to begin. Is this the disruption in the interest of
- 4:52Speaker 1: achieving a fair voting system or is this a political
- 4:56Speaker 1: race to the bottom.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Decision by the Supreme Court is devastating for the Voting
- 5:03Speaker 2: Rights Act, and we'll roll back decades of progress on
- 5:08Speaker 2: a more equal representative government and basically makes it easier
- 5:14Speaker 2: for states to eliminate representation of communities of color. And
- 5:18Speaker 2: we know that Trump and MAGA had already been redistricting
- 5:21Speaker 2: roughly to try to take control of Congress. This decision
- 5:24Speaker 2: makes it even easier. Various states after this decision was
- 5:28Speaker 2: issued by the Supreme Court already have begun to work
- 5:31Speaker 2: to eliminate districts congressional districts that represent majority black voters
- 5:37Speaker 2: to dilute their power. So again we are seeing various
- 5:43Speaker 2: attacks on democracy from all different levels of government, whether
- 5:47Speaker 2: it's state government, the federal government, the presidency, and in
- 5:51Speaker 2: this case, the Supreme Court weakening protections. But we still
- 5:56Speaker 2: have to remain hopeful. The American people absolutely we can
- 6:00Speaker 2: save democracy again. That's why Trump and NAGA are growing
- 6:03Speaker 2: so extreme. Republicans are afraid of their voters. Republicans are
- 6:07Speaker 2: afraid of American voters. That's why they're trying to redistrict.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And I am so optimistic that their corrupt plans will fail.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Okay, we love that optimism. Thank you very much for
- 6:19Speaker 1: spending time with us, especially on a mother's Day. I
- 6:21Speaker 1: appreciate that
