- 0:05Hi, I'm Jeff Allen and thank you for listening to the slippery
- 0:08slope. So yesterday my episode was
- 0:11about Andrew thorburn and how he is.
- 0:15Now, the chief executive for was the chief executive for the
- 0:18estimate football club, and he was being criticized because of
- 0:22his association with a bible-based Christian church,
- 0:28because that church Has teachers that abortion is wrong and also
- 0:33homosexuality is a sin just like other sexual immorality.
- 0:41He was being criticized because of his association with that
- 0:44church and people were obviously being offended.
- 0:49Lots of people are offended and including the state premier of
- 0:53Victoria Andrew Daniels. So it appears that and Ruth or
- 0:57Burns appointment as the CEO of Essen and football club has
- 1:02lasted a whole 24 hours. Maybe not even that long.
- 1:06This headline came through from the guardian says Victorian
- 1:08opposition, leader calls and Auburn's resignation as essendon
- 1:13SEO, ridiculous. So Victoria is opposition.
- 1:17Ali that Matthew guy has described and Ruth or Burns
- 1:20resignation ads as essendon essendon chief executive over
- 1:25links to a church, which can them's homosexuality and
- 1:28abortion as ridiculous. So, thorburn was appointed to
- 1:33the role on Monday, but resigned on Tuesday afternoon after
- 1:37sermons by the city on a hill Church of Which he is a term
- 1:41chairman with made public. Of course someone had to go in
- 1:47there and share these sermons and besides that it would have
- 1:52been hard. I don't even understand how they
- 1:54would have found out. I mean it's not like he was the
- 1:56past or he had some kind of you know on the some kind of role
- 2:00that was on the stage or anything.
- 2:02He worked very much behind the scenes.
- 2:06Anyway keep going on. It says the sermons likened.
- 2:09Abortion to a concentration camp and included claims.
- 2:14That practicing homosexuality is a sin.
- 2:18It's funny here because it says practicing homosexuality is a
- 2:21sin and has in quotation marks and it says these are claims
- 2:25views which the premier. Daniel Andrews said were
- 2:29absolutely appalling. But like I said yesterday, when
- 2:35the church teaches from the Bible, people are going to be
- 2:40offended. The Bible is offensive to a
- 2:43world that does not want to hear the truth because the word of
- 2:47God divides truth from the lies. Anyway I'll keep going on.
- 2:52It says the football club on Tuesday said thorburn felt he
- 2:56could not serve in both roles and had offered his resignation
- 3:00despite not holding the same personal views as his church.
- 3:04I'm a little disappointed that he that he was saying that he
- 3:07doesn't hold the same personal views as his church.
- 3:10Because as far as I could tell, they would just biblical views
- 3:14anyway. I'll keep going on.
- 3:15It says, on Wednesday. The opposition, the opposition
- 3:20leader criticized, the premiere for weighing into the debate,
- 3:25which he said encroached too far into private religious views.
- 3:30He said what are we now? Ben People from going to church
- 3:34Banning people from going to a synagogue, Banning people from
- 3:38going to a mosque. Where have we got?
- 3:41This is ridiculous. This what guy told 3aw radio he
- 3:46says football clubs can hire whom they choose?
- 3:50I don't see if I was the premier.
- 3:53Why I would be telling people who they can hire and fire and
- 3:57why would you so a day later press conference in Add water
- 4:03near Victoria's South West Coast.
- 4:05Guy said he would not speak for other people when asked how the
- 4:09lgbtq+ community would be feeling.
- 4:13It says, we've got laws in place in the state to protect everyone
- 4:17from hate speech and intolerance and that's a good thing he said
- 4:21but at the end of the day who organizations hire and fire is
- 4:26up to them and I just don't see why politicians particularly the
- 4:31premiere have to be. Overlord or commentator on
- 4:34everyone else's organization. So at a press conference in
- 4:38Melbourne, on Wednesday. The premier stood by his earlier
- 4:42comments and remember this is Premier, Daniel Andrews.
- 4:45The he's very very LGBT iq+ affirming very much so.
- 4:53And he like I said, during the lockdowns he was very much.
- 4:57The churches need to stay locked down.
- 4:59However we can open up an lgbtq Dirty Hall Community Center
- 5:05because we need to be concerned about that Community, but screw
- 5:09the churches. They don't need to open.
- 5:12So he goes on. He says, Who runs the foot
- 5:16essendon football club is a massive for the board but I was
- 5:20asked question and I simply put it, put to you, my
- 5:24long-standing, consistent view. Daniel Andrews said he says,
- 5:29I've had a long-standing view that termination Services as an
- 5:33abortion services are A Private Matter between a woman and her
- 5:37doctor and I will speak out against people who seek to
- 5:42intrude on that. So heaven, Forbid, anyone speak
- 5:46out against abortion. He also says, what's more when
- 5:51it comes to rampant homophobia, the remember he describes this
- 5:55as homophobia, but this is not homophobia because all it is
- 6:01doing is teaching the Bible teaching.
- 6:06The Bible that is all his doing. However, the teachings of the
- 6:09Bible and now described as a phobia, Discrimination bigotry.
- 6:15Go on and says he says, when I lead the pride March, every
- 6:20year, I do that with a sense of genuine concern and support and
- 6:26commitment to make sure every lgbtiq plus.
- 6:29Victorian is safe respected and valued.
- 6:34Andrew says that same-sex attracted young.
- 6:37People were more likely to take their own lives or self harm
- 6:41than the broader. Victorian community.
- 6:43Aditi. And let's not lose perspective
- 6:45about this. You saying it's not about who
- 6:48runs a football club, this is about issues that are much much
- 6:52bigger than that easy. So the Victorian Liberal Party,
- 6:57they have come under Fire in recent months for pre-selecting,
- 7:01conservative candidates, including the anti-abortion and
- 7:06safe, schools, critic morandini, who replaced, conservative, MP
- 7:11burning Finn, who was Hurry antiabortion.
- 7:15Also they pre-selected Renee Heath, whose family is connected
- 7:19to the conservative City. Builders Church, which has been
- 7:24accused of encouraging members of its congregation to take part
- 7:29in externally, run gay conversion practices and that
- 7:34was she was selected pre-selected for the East and
- 7:40Victoria region. Now, for those of you that don't
- 7:42know it Victoria. It is the bringing legislation
- 7:48that the any church or any organization that would
- 7:52encourage. People were all would even offer
- 7:56to pray for someone who is gay. It was homosexual and pray for
- 8:03that situation that person can be charged with an offence in
- 8:09Victoria what the Victorian government is actually, our Lon
- 8:13Is the right to practice your Christian faith.
- 8:18They have made illegal to pray for people if someone asks for
- 8:24help and that person is in that person as a part of the lgbtq
- 8:29community and someone else sees them praying for them.
- 8:34They can be they can be reported to police.
- 8:37They can be charged and that's where Victoria is going.
- 8:41That is what the premier Deng. Niall Andrew stands for.
- 8:45So in it, goes on to say, in this article that an ABC
- 8:48investigation published in September, bam, dozens of
- 8:53Liberal Party members, particularly in gippsland had
- 8:56recently left the party to Jutsu concerns about infiltration by
- 9:01Church groups. As I said yesterday, the Bible
- 9:07is offensive. It is offensive to people who do
- 9:11not want to hear the truth who do not want a light Shone on On
- 9:15their own sinful actions, unfortunately, as loving, and as
- 9:20caring as as Christians, try to be.
- 9:24When discussing the truth about God and about the in about this
- 9:30world, people will still be offended and I personally
- 9:35believe that Australia is on a path, especially Victoria.
- 9:39It'll if it happens, it'll happen in Victoria first where
- 9:44the We'll eventually be banned, where certain teachings within
- 9:49the Bible? Will definitely be banned.
- 9:52Pastors will be restricted in what they can teach publicly
- 9:57anything to do with teaching on immorality.
- 10:00Sexual immorality will be outlawed.
- 10:03I believe this is where we are going in Australia.
- 10:07It'll come in Victoria first. I think people keep getting
- 10:10offended. You know, I was thinking about
- 10:11this every day I watch TV and even just Tan.
- 10:16Even just on a normal TV show, like something like the project,
- 10:20you know, which is just a show that's on, at 6:30 in the
- 10:23evening and sinews discussion program.
- 10:26I hear the name of the name of Jesus used as a swear word here.
- 10:32This constantly and yet as offensive and as disgusting as I
- 10:37think, this is no one. Complains, no one says anything,
- 10:42it's just used all the time. And yet Christians are supposed
- 10:47to just accept this and but isn't it funny how no other
- 10:51community has to accept anything?
- 10:56Any kind of biblical views. Everyone is allowed to be
- 11:00offended by the Bible and by biblical views but Christians
- 11:06are not allowed to be offended by anyone else.
- 11:11Australia is on a path where we will one day, see teachings in
- 11:16the Bible being banned. Stop being offended Australia.
- 11:19That's my opinion. Thank you for listening to the
- 11:23slippery slope.
