- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, my partner in language adventures, Luna, is here with me. Luna: Hey hey, Lucas. I'm so ready for today's episode. Last time we were at the beach collecting shells, and I still can't get over how beautiful they were. Lucas: Those shells were lovely, right? And today, we're staying at the beach, but we're doing something a little different. We're building sandcastles. Luna: Oh, sandcastles. I love that. I haven't built one in ages. So what's the first word we need? Lucas: The most important one is 'sand'. In Cantonese, sand is 沙. Say it with me, 沙. Luna: 沙. That's sand. I'm picturing the beach already. Lucas: Exactly. Now, we need the castle. Castle is 城堡. Luna: 城堡. So sandcastle would be 沙城堡? Or how do we say that? Lucas: Good question. Usually we just say 城堡, but if you want to specify, you can say 沙城堡. But let's keep it simple today. We have 沙 and 城堡. Luna: Okay, simple. Two words so far. Lucas: Now, the action. To build with sand, we say 堆沙. This means to pile up sand or to build a sandcastle. Luna: 堆沙. So if I want to say 'let's build a sandcastle', it's Lucas: Perfect. But we can also simply say 堆沙 when the context is clear. Now, what are we going to say when we see a beautiful castle? Luna: Oh, we learned 好靚 before. That means 'very pretty'. Lucas: Exactly. The castle is beautiful. And today we'll also ask a question. Do you like building sandcastles? That's a bit of a mouthful but I like it. Lucas: Let's break it down. 你 means 'you'. 鍾唔鍾意 is 'do you like'. And 堆沙 is the action. Do you like building sandcastles? I can answer that. I like building sandcastles. Lucas: And that's a great sentence. Luna: So today we have 沙, 城堡, 堆沙, 好靚, and 你鍾唔鍾意堆沙. That's our set. Lucas: That's it. Now let's imagine we're at the beach. I'm shaping a big sandcastle. You come over and say something. Luna: Umm... Lucas: Perfect. Then I ask you, 你鍾唔鍾意堆沙? I do. I really do. Lucas: See, you just used all five phrases in one tiny scene. Nice. Luna: That felt natural. I'm learning a lot today. And honestly, this episode is already useful. You know, if today was actually useful to you, the way these stay ad-free is listener support. You can buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, that's how we keep the show going, no ads. Just a small gesture from people who find value in it. Luna: Right. So you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. But back to the sandcastle. I want to say something more. Lucas: Go ahead. We're all ears. Let's build a sandcastle together. That's using 堆沙 in a full sentence. Excellent. And then I'd say, Okay, let's build. Luna: So 好呀 is 'okay'. We're building. This is fun. Lucas: Now, let's practice the words one more time. First, 沙. Luna: 沙. Lucas: 城堡. Luna: 城堡. Lucas: 堆沙. Luna: 堆沙. Lucas: 好靚. Luna: 好靚. Lucas: And the question, I think I've got it. Let me try to put it all together. Lucas: Perfect. You've got all five. Now, let's do a quick recall. I'll say the English, you give me the Cantonese. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Lucas: Sand. Luna: 沙. Lucas: Castle. Luna: 城堡. Lucas: To build sandcastles. Luna: 堆沙. Lucas: Very beautiful. Luna: 好靚. Lucas: Do you like building sandcastles? Lucas: That's right. You nailed it. Luna: Ahh, yes. I'm so happy. I can already imagine myself at the beach saying these to someone. Lucas: And now you can. Remember, it's all about practice. Say them out loud, even when you're not at the beach. Maybe while you're walking or doing dishes. Luna: That's a good tip. I'll practice 沙, 城堡, 堆沙, 好靚 while I'm doing the dishes today. Lucas: There you go. And if you want more practice, you can always revisit this episode on Fexingo. Luna: Yes, Fexingo is your home for learning. We'll see you next time. Keep building those sandcastles in your mind. Lucas: Bye, everyone.
