- 0:00Speaker 1: As the play by play man on the radio for
- 0:02Speaker 1: the Mariners Radio Network.
- 0:04Speaker 2: He joined us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Again.
- 0:06Speaker 1: It's always nice to hear from Gary Hill Junior. I
- 0:08Speaker 1: hope you enjoyed your off day at home, A rare one, sir.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Oh yeah, a rare off day. And it was beautiful yesterday.
- 0:15Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on today, but yesterday was
- 0:17Speaker 3: amazing home.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It's like you moved to some different planet when you
- 0:21Speaker 1: arrived yesterday. Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Well, what what a difference. What a difference three games
- 0:27Speaker 2: and West Sacramento made for this team?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Huh?
- 0:33Speaker 2: First place?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Can you describe for us being a major League Baseball team,
- 0:36Speaker 1: a major League baseball announcer, and all the great venues
- 0:38Speaker 1: that you go to rolling into West sac at Old
- 0:41Speaker 1: Raleigh Field.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Triple A Park for the Sacramento river Cats.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's very different. I mean, it's a minor
- 0:47Speaker 3: league park. It's it is what it is. That's uh,
- 0:51Speaker 3: it's it's very different, a very different vibe. The same
- 0:54Speaker 3: thing that we dealt with with Tampa Bay last year
- 0:57Speaker 3: for different reasons. Obviously they had to both last year,
- 0:59Speaker 3: but it was the same kind of scenario where you're
- 1:02Speaker 3: just playing in a really small park, you know, some
- 1:04Speaker 3: of it comparatively, just going to the call seeum got
- 1:09Speaker 3: sad the last few years because there's generally, you know,
- 1:13Speaker 3: a thousand, a couple thousand people, And I hated it too,
- 1:16Speaker 3: especially being a Seattle guy. I just know how that
- 1:19Speaker 3: felt when the Sonics left and just what a kick
- 1:22Speaker 3: that was. And to watch Oakland fans have to deal
- 1:26Speaker 3: with not only what happened with the A's but the
- 1:28Speaker 3: Raiders and the Warriors. They moved across across town as
- 1:32Speaker 3: well the San Francisco. So it was just sad to
- 1:35Speaker 3: me every time I went because Oakland had a really
- 1:38Speaker 3: strong base of support. So at least when you go
- 1:41Speaker 3: to this ballpark, like you know, it's not a big stadium,
- 1:44Speaker 3: but it's full, it's lively. Merrit fans travel great. I
- 1:48Speaker 3: mean that first game on the holiday, I felt like
- 1:50Speaker 3: it was about fifty to fifty. So it makes for
- 1:53Speaker 3: a better environment, which is nice.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You're right about the a I covered the A's in
- 1:58Speaker 1: the early two thousands as my first professional sports writing
- 2:01Speaker 1: gig actually for the Sacramento be And it's cheap now
- 2:04Speaker 1: to say that the coliseum's broken down and it's because
- 2:07Speaker 1: the city decided not to reinvest in it. But that venue,
- 2:11Speaker 1: in that fan base used to be one of the
- 2:14Speaker 1: better ones in the in Major League Baseball, and before
- 2:16Speaker 1: Mount Davis went in, it was one of the more
- 2:18Speaker 1: beautiful parks in Major League Baseball. And the fans there
- 2:21Speaker 1: are still loyal to their A's And what is the
- 2:25Speaker 1: is there even a fan base in Sacramento? Is only
- 2:28Speaker 1: eleven thousand and twelve thousand fans can fit in that park?
- 2:30Speaker 1: But is there even some support? Do you feel any
- 2:34Speaker 1: kind of home venue or is this just like a
- 2:36Speaker 1: neutral site game when you guys play there.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a great question because I think about the
- 2:42Speaker 3: fans going there. There's a lot of people in Sacramento
- 2:45Speaker 3: that you know, their minor league team gets a lot
- 2:47Speaker 3: of support. They sell out all the time, right. I
- 2:50Speaker 3: think it's a lot of people that live in Sacramento
- 2:52Speaker 3: that are just baseball fans. And you think about if
- 2:54Speaker 3: you lived in a place like Sacramento, like, Wow, there's
- 2:56Speaker 3: a major league team here for the next couple of years,
- 2:58Speaker 3: I'm going to go to games. You know, they're chairing
- 3:01Speaker 3: for the A's, they're wearing a stuff. But it does
- 3:03Speaker 3: seem like a very in between time for them because
- 3:07Speaker 3: everyone knows the situation that they're not in Sacramento for good.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I think there are some A's fans in the area.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I was talking to someone from Sacramento and basically, growing up,
- 3:17Speaker 3: you were either a Giants fan or an A's fan.
- 3:20Speaker 3: It was kind of random which one you selected, right,
- 3:23Speaker 3: And so I think there are A's fans there. But
- 3:26Speaker 3: it is a very weird vibe because it just seems like, oh,
- 3:30Speaker 3: we're this is our halfway point to where we're actually going,
- 3:33Speaker 3: which makes it strange.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Okay, Seattle people don't want to hear about the A's anymore.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Tell me about is this? Are the Mariners now first
- 3:41Speaker 1: place for the rest of the season, that there's they
- 3:43Speaker 1: won't relinquish?
- 3:44Speaker 2: It is that the vibe you're getting that the feel
- 3:45Speaker 2: is that this was the proverbial right hand turn in
- 3:49Speaker 2: the road and now they're not looking back.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Well, it feels great because that was the best series
- 3:55Speaker 3: they've played this year by far, and I think when
- 3:58Speaker 3: we all pictured what this would look like this season,
- 4:01Speaker 3: not that every game in every series would be like that,
- 4:04Speaker 3: but we saw things like, yes, that's what we expected
- 4:07Speaker 3: to see. The offense was really good. Pounted out a
- 4:11Speaker 3: ton of hits, a lot of long balls, which was great.
- 4:14Speaker 3: The starting pitching was dominant, and if you want to
- 4:18Speaker 3: include Miller in that as well, the four starters that
- 4:20Speaker 3: threw they were nearly invincible in that series, and the
- 4:23Speaker 3: bullpen was great as well for the first time in
- 4:26Speaker 3: a series. It all came together because he asked me
- 4:29Speaker 3: what has been the Mariners issue this year? The simple
- 4:33Speaker 3: statement is they just haven't played well. And you dive
- 4:36Speaker 3: deeper into that, it's like, well, when they've gotten the
- 4:39Speaker 3: starting pitching, the offense hasn't been there. When the offense
- 4:42Speaker 3: has been there, maybe the bullpen blows. It's just been
- 4:45Speaker 3: one of those things where they have not been able
- 4:48Speaker 3: to get everything together going at the same time for
- 4:51Speaker 3: any stretch at all. And so this was the first
- 4:54Speaker 3: time we saw which was great. Now tonight is the
- 4:57Speaker 3: other test, because they have reached the point, the one
- 5:01Speaker 3: game below five hundred point a handful of times this year,
- 5:04Speaker 3: and every time they've gotten there, they've dropped two or
- 5:08Speaker 3: three or four or something like that and worked their
- 5:10Speaker 3: way back out. So to me, this is another one
- 5:13Speaker 3: of those tests. Can they hold first place to the
- 5:16Speaker 3: rest of the year. Sure, but we'll see what happens.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Arizona team obviously playing really great baseball. They've won ten
- 5:22Speaker 3: of their past eleven, so it's going to be a
- 5:24Speaker 3: real test in this three game series.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Gary, You've seen and watched or same thing. You've seen
- 5:29Speaker 4: and covered a lot of Mariners baseball. What feels different
- 5:33Speaker 4: about this team now that they've climbed in the first
- 5:36Speaker 4: place but not the best record in the world.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think when I think about this team right now,
- 5:43Speaker 3: especially without Callan Donovan, they're still missing two big bats
- 5:46Speaker 3: in the lineup, I think they're at their best when
- 5:49Speaker 3: they're getting consistent starting pitching every time out. And that's
- 5:54Speaker 3: what we saw against the A's. They really just overwhelmed
- 5:56Speaker 3: the A's on the mount and the Mariners were able
- 5:58Speaker 3: to score first in every game and play from in
- 6:01Speaker 3: front and then go to the side of the bullpen,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and that was the ballgame. And I think that's what
- 6:07Speaker 3: you hope to see. You know, the rotation this year,
- 6:09Speaker 3: it's been an interesting year with the rotation because you know,
- 6:13Speaker 3: eer a wise, they've been kind of in the middle
- 6:16Speaker 3: of the pack and a lot of that has been
- 6:18Speaker 3: just blow ups from guys like guys have had good seasons,
- 6:23Speaker 3: but there's been blow ups sprinkled here and there, and
- 6:25Speaker 3: I think that's what's kind of kept the Mariners from
- 6:28Speaker 3: having a consistent run. Well, this is a time that
- 6:31Speaker 3: we saw everyone in the rotation just dealt. And I
- 6:34Speaker 3: know you're not gonna throw up zeros every single time.
- 6:37Speaker 3: But if they can get back to their consistent hey,
- 6:41Speaker 3: five guys rolling out give you a chance to win
- 6:43Speaker 3: every game. You can see how they will put together
- 6:47Speaker 3: a really great stretch, especially with the intact bullpen spires
- 6:52Speaker 3: back crashes back, that makes a huge difference. So that's
- 6:55Speaker 3: what I see right now.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Inspire coming back during that three game sweep of the Mariners,
- 7:00Speaker 1: the Mariners of the A's in Sacramento. This is Gary
- 7:02Speaker 1: Hill Junior, the Mariners broadcaster, joining us on the Beacon
- 7:05Speaker 1: Plumbing Hotline on ninety three point three kJ RFM. You
- 7:08Speaker 1: mentioned Gary that they're doing this without Brendan Donovan and
- 7:11Speaker 1: cal Rawley back in first place without them, what's it
- 7:14Speaker 1: looking like on both fronts. I know cal Rawley was
- 7:17Speaker 1: down in Arizona throwing lately and trying to get the
- 7:20Speaker 1: oblique back, but the side issue he's had. But any
- 7:23Speaker 1: word on when either of those might be coming back,
- 7:27Speaker 1: No word yet.
- 7:27Speaker 3: We should know today the first game of every home stand,
- 7:31Speaker 3: Justin Hollander goes through the injuries. I imagine those would
- 7:33Speaker 3: be the first two questions for Justin Hollander today. What's
- 7:37Speaker 3: the deal with Cal Rawley? What's the deal with Brendan Donovan. So, yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 3: that's the last we heard that. It was good that
- 7:42Speaker 3: Cal has kind of resumed some baseball activities, you know,
- 7:45Speaker 3: some light stuff, catch that sort of thing. So, but
- 7:48Speaker 3: it's been several days, so we'll hear I think from
- 7:51Speaker 3: Holland there today exactly where he's at.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Okay, so news coming probably around three, three thirty or
- 7:56Speaker 2: four o'clock this afternoon.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Gary, let me ask you put your analyst hat on.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Know you play play guy, but you know the team
- 8:01Speaker 1: better as well as anybody. When Brandon Donovan comes back,
- 8:05Speaker 1: what's the what's the roulette in the infield? What do
- 8:08Speaker 1: you think happens? Cold Emerson has been very impressive. Obviously,
- 8:12Speaker 1: Cold Young at second base has been I mean, I
- 8:16Speaker 1: don't know, you could make him a candidate Rookie of
- 8:18Speaker 1: the Year right now, have consistent he's been played in
- 8:21Speaker 1: at the glove and then Donovan do you consider putting
- 8:26Speaker 1: him in the offit and all of a sudden road
- 8:27Speaker 1: bases back, making diving catches and producing, and then JP
- 8:31Speaker 1: Crawford the question some people have proposed, perhaps he become
- 8:35Speaker 1: a DH. But what do you see happening when Brendan
- 8:38Speaker 1: Donovan comes back where it does with JP Crawford cold Emerson.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It certainly looks like a good problem because Emerson has
- 8:45Speaker 3: been impressive, and I know he's twenty, so I think
- 8:47Speaker 3: we should all realize that there's going to be some
- 8:49Speaker 3: ups and downs here to start things. But man, he's
- 8:51Speaker 3: had some big moments already in his first week or
- 8:54Speaker 3: so in the majors, So you know, I think it's
- 8:56Speaker 3: the kind of situation that if you're productive, producing, you're
- 9:01Speaker 3: gonna be in the lineup. And fortunately the Mariners do
- 9:04Speaker 3: have some flexibility here. But Emerson, you know, he can
- 9:07Speaker 3: play a couple of positions. You know, JP we've all
- 9:10Speaker 3: heard is he's volunteered to play third base as well.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Donovan come over around, and I think the thing with
- 9:16Speaker 3: Donovan is, I think they're going to have to be
- 9:19Speaker 3: careful with him the rest of the way, whether it's outfield,
- 9:22Speaker 3: third base. I think he'll season DH time. That's my
- 9:25Speaker 3: suspicion the rest of the way, because you want his
- 9:28Speaker 3: bat in the lineup. We've seen the difference he makes
- 9:30Speaker 3: at the top of the lineup. I think he's rolling
- 9:32Speaker 3: with a four hundred on base for a lot of
- 9:34Speaker 3: this season. You think about what the middle of the
- 9:37Speaker 3: order can be, how much damage they can do with
- 9:40Speaker 3: a guy on base all the time like that. So
- 9:42Speaker 3: I think he will move around in a circumstance like
- 9:45Speaker 3: that and see some DH time. But I really think
- 9:49Speaker 3: it's gonna be kind of hot hand scenario.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:52Speaker 3: If you're hitting, you're in the lineup, and they'll find
- 9:55Speaker 3: a way to make it happen in terms of defensive positions.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Right exactly, Gary, If this stretch is the let's say,
- 10:04Speaker 4: blueprint for sustained success, what do the Mariners need to
- 10:09Speaker 4: keep doing over the next let's say month or so
- 10:12Speaker 4: to stay atop the AO West. Actually, I want to
- 10:15Speaker 4: say dominate the AO West.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I mean the division is certainly there for the taking.
- 10:20Speaker 3: That's the thing. As we've seen, because we've all witnessed
- 10:24Speaker 3: the Astros and their problems and the Rangers they have
- 10:26Speaker 3: their issues and the A's well, they seem to be
- 10:29Speaker 3: a team that's ascending, especially with that lineup that they
- 10:33Speaker 3: have pitching issues, right, you can see the flaws with
- 10:37Speaker 3: every team. The Mariners are the most complete team in
- 10:40Speaker 3: the division, especially on paper, and so I think they
- 10:44Speaker 3: just need to roll out their formula, which they when
- 10:47Speaker 3: they're at their best, they're the team that has good
- 10:49Speaker 3: starting pitching, dominant bullpen, and they run into a homer
- 10:54Speaker 3: or two along the way. That's it. That's the formula,
- 10:57Speaker 3: and it's not something we've seen in long stretches this year.
- 11:02Speaker 3: We've also seen a team and this is what the
- 11:04Speaker 3: Mariners do. We have seen them in past years go
- 11:07Speaker 3: through stretches where they're just not very good and then
- 11:10Speaker 3: one day they're great, they go on big runs. I mean,
- 11:13Speaker 3: they're kind of like the team is kind of like
- 11:16Speaker 3: Julio in that way. We see Julio he can scuffle, scuffle, scuffle,
- 11:19Speaker 3: and then he is just red hot one day and
- 11:22Speaker 3: he can be the best player in baseball for a
- 11:24Speaker 3: couple of months at a time. And the Mariners as
- 11:26Speaker 3: a team, we have seen do that sort of thing.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And so I think when you think about that formula,
- 11:33Speaker 3: they can rip off, you know, a great stretch for
- 11:37Speaker 3: a month or two. And I've said, when you look
- 11:39Speaker 3: at the division, the first team to put together, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 3: an eight of ten scenario, they're gonna have a big
- 11:45Speaker 3: advantage in the division because you look around and it
- 11:48Speaker 3: doesn't feel like right now there's many teams that can
- 11:51Speaker 3: put together an eight wins in ten game kind of stretch,
- 11:54Speaker 3: But it feels like the Mariners have that capability.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Gariel, junior Mariners broadcaster, joining us here on the Beacon
- 12:00Speaker 1: Plumbing Hotline.
- 12:01Speaker 2: It's a little early to.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Ask this, we're just out a Memorial Day, but do
- 12:05Speaker 1: you get the sense again, Gary, he's done with Randy Rosereno,
- 12:09Speaker 1: as he's done with Luis Castillo, that Jerry to Poto
- 12:12Speaker 1: is gonna make a move this? Does the team expect
- 12:14Speaker 1: Jerry Depoto to make an augment move in.
- 12:17Speaker 2: July because it's just what he does? Do they do?
- 12:20Speaker 2: They do?
- 12:20Speaker 1: You sense they have like a look over their shoulder
- 12:22Speaker 1: of we're gonna we're gonna fix a hole somewhere because
- 12:24Speaker 1: they always do.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I mean they do always do, and not just little moves.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Do you think about the big splashes right they've made
- 12:33Speaker 3: over the last few years. You know, Gino and Naylor
- 12:36Speaker 3: last year and you can go back to Castillo before that.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I mean, they've they've been really great at the deadline,
- 12:43Speaker 3: making impact moves, and I suspect they'll want to do
- 12:46Speaker 3: the same thing. And a big part of that is,
- 12:48Speaker 3: you know, they've had such a good minor league system
- 12:51Speaker 3: that they've been able to trade from that system and
- 12:53Speaker 3: still bring up guys like Cole Young and Cole Emerson
- 12:57Speaker 3: with some others on the way, which I think is
- 13:00Speaker 3: that's been everything. That's what's allowed to the Mariners to
- 13:03Speaker 3: be what they are. You think about how they they're
- 13:05Speaker 3: really homegrown a lot of ways with Gilbert and Kirby
- 13:09Speaker 3: and all those guys, but they have traded for pieces
- 13:12Speaker 3: they've needed from their drafts, which is impressive, and so
- 13:16Speaker 3: I think Bill aim to do that again. The question
- 13:19Speaker 3: for me is, and this is kind of the unknown
- 13:22Speaker 3: in May. We won't know until we get closer. It's
- 13:25Speaker 3: such a weird year when you look at the standings
- 13:28Speaker 3: right now, especially in the American League, and so you know,
- 13:32Speaker 3: if you're a team in the American League, of course
- 13:34Speaker 3: you feel like you're in it. You look around, I
- 13:37Speaker 3: mean even the Red Sox, who have struggled so badly
- 13:40Speaker 3: they can look around and say, yeah, we can grab
- 13:42Speaker 3: a wild card. So well, there'll be more clarity when
- 13:46Speaker 3: we get to July. And a team like the Tigers
- 13:49Speaker 3: I think are super interesting for obvious reasons, you know,
- 13:52Speaker 3: especially schoobl team like the Royals, you know, if they're
- 13:55Speaker 3: out of it. There's some interesting teams there that have
- 13:58Speaker 3: some pieces, but for the most like last year, there
- 14:01Speaker 3: just there wasn't a ton And I thought the Mariners
- 14:03Speaker 3: did a really good job of grabbing two big bats
- 14:06Speaker 3: at the deadline. I know they'll be aggressive because that's
- 14:09Speaker 3: what they do, but I'm very curious to see how
- 14:12Speaker 3: the market unfolds here as we get closer to the deadline.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Gary, this market and this radio station have often criticized
- 14:21Speaker 1: Julia Rodriguez for his slow starts and his subterranean batting
- 14:26Speaker 1: average and well into the summer. Yet this year it's
- 14:29Speaker 1: the opposite, and he's at eight home runs this month.
- 14:32Speaker 1: It's I think it's it's his career high for a month,
- 14:35Speaker 1: and I'm not I think I heard you say that
- 14:37Speaker 1: during the broadcast the other night. What has impressed you
- 14:40Speaker 1: about Julio Rodriguez this season, especially given the context that
- 14:43Speaker 1: cal Rawley has not been a factor.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, his consistency, Uh, you know, I was looking at
- 14:51Speaker 3: the first forty plus games. He it was his best
- 14:54Speaker 3: batting average, his best on base percentage, his best lugging percentage,
- 14:59Speaker 3: no matter how you the start of the season. This
- 15:01Speaker 3: has been his best start of his career. And it's
- 15:05Speaker 3: just been the consistency. It hasn't been. You know, we
- 15:09Speaker 3: watched them go in these red hot runs in his career, right,
- 15:12Speaker 3: and the starts have been super cold. This has been
- 15:15Speaker 3: very different. He's just been really steady, I would say,
- 15:18Speaker 3: and I think that's been the most impressive part at
- 15:21Speaker 3: a time where they've desperately needed it too, especially as
- 15:24Speaker 3: you mentioned without Cal, they've missed Donovan. You know, some
- 15:27Speaker 3: other guys have been cold as well. I mean, you
- 15:29Speaker 3: look at who's been their best offensive players, Randy Rose Arena,
- 15:33Speaker 3: who's been their best offensive guy. But I would put
- 15:36Speaker 3: Julio right there. It's the most consistent, and they've really
- 15:39Speaker 3: needed it, especially with the guys missing, and you know,
- 15:44Speaker 3: with a couple days left in the month, Yeah, maybe
- 15:47Speaker 3: I'll get to double digits for the first time in
- 15:48Speaker 3: a month, which would be super cool, right Gary.
- 15:51Speaker 4: You mentioned a rose arena, so I got to bring
- 15:53Speaker 4: it back to him again like I did a few
- 15:55Speaker 4: weeks ago. Do you think the Mariners fully maybe appreciate
- 15:59Speaker 4: how challenging it would be to replace him his production,
- 16:03Speaker 4: especially internally if he does end up walking in free agency.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and usually when you get to this stage that
- 16:11Speaker 3: of course, they could always resign him after the season too.
- 16:13Speaker 3: It's the doors never closed on that. But yeah, he's
- 16:18Speaker 3: been super productive and I've always felt a little underrated
- 16:23Speaker 3: just in terms of you know, he's a guy who
- 16:25Speaker 3: I think has one of the most important skill sets
- 16:28Speaker 3: in baseball and that he posts. I mean, he is
- 16:30Speaker 3: a guy that plays one hundred and fifty plus games
- 16:33Speaker 3: every single year, and it's really impressive how he goes
- 16:36Speaker 3: about it because he's been dinged up at times.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I think it was a last year he had a
- 16:41Speaker 3: calf injury that he just kept playing through and you
- 16:43Speaker 3: could see him dealing with it, playing through it, but
- 16:46Speaker 3: playing every day. I mean, that's a very valuable skill set,
- 16:50Speaker 3: being able to play every day, and he brings that
- 16:52Speaker 3: to the table. But he's having so far one of
- 16:56Speaker 3: the best offensive years of his career. When you just
- 16:58Speaker 3: look at the slash line's base all the time, he's
- 17:01Speaker 3: stealing a ton of bags. He's towards the top and
- 17:04Speaker 3: baseball and doubles like it's all there. He's been excellent
- 17:07Speaker 3: even rates out as a pretty good left fielder defensively too,
- 17:11Speaker 3: which is a nice bonus. So yeah, it would be
- 17:16Speaker 3: looking forward to the offseason. Yeah, that's a big bat
- 17:20Speaker 3: to try and replace because it's been super productive this
- 17:23Speaker 3: year and you're talking about All Stars. He's been one
- 17:25Speaker 3: of the best outfielders in baseball so far, and it
- 17:28Speaker 3: looks like if he keeps going like this, he's going
- 17:31Speaker 3: to be there for sure second straight year as a
- 17:33Speaker 3: Mariners All Star.
- 17:35Speaker 1: The metrics say he's a great outfitter, but there are
- 17:37Speaker 1: times he's an adventure up there in left field. Could
- 17:40Speaker 1: you see him perhaps being a full time DH because
- 17:43Speaker 1: of Roadblace now there and how Luke Raley has been
- 17:47Speaker 1: all of this season, and if they really are going
- 17:50Speaker 1: to keep ref Schneider in the guy against left handed
- 17:52Speaker 1: pitching who's now hit the big three run homer the
- 17:54Speaker 1: other day that maybe he's showing signs. Is that a
- 17:58Speaker 1: possibility with I mean Raley to me, is a guy
- 18:01Speaker 1: who needs more at bats.
- 18:02Speaker 2: But now you've got Roblaze back too.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Yeah. So I look at the Roblest Raley as one.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I look at them as a platoon and you hope
- 18:12Speaker 3: you get that Robelest that we saw in the series
- 18:16Speaker 3: against D's where you know, three hits in a ball game,
- 18:19Speaker 3: a couple of great catches. That'd be the perfect platoon
- 18:23Speaker 3: partner if you can get that production. Because Raleigh on
- 18:26Speaker 3: the flip side, he is just dominated Ridies this year,
- 18:30Speaker 3: which is what you're asking him to do. But he's
- 18:32Speaker 3: been you know, with you look at slugging percentage, he's
- 18:35Speaker 3: just outside of the top ten against Ridy's. He's doing
- 18:38Speaker 3: everything you want on that side of the platoon. They
- 18:40Speaker 3: just haven't had a consistent platoon partner for him, and
- 18:44Speaker 3: you hope Roblest is that guy, just like you hope
- 18:47Speaker 3: Canzone and Resneider are the platoon partners. In terms of DH,
- 18:53Speaker 3: I don't see them asking a Rose Raina to be
- 18:55Speaker 3: a full time DH one. I think that is a
- 18:58Speaker 3: tough ask for a guy going into his free agencies,
- 19:02Speaker 3: and just on a personal professional level, I think I
- 19:06Speaker 3: think that would cause some issues and I don't think
- 19:10Speaker 3: that's where they're at right now. I don't think that's
- 19:13Speaker 3: necessarily what they need to do. You're right, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 3: he has some some adventures out there from time to time.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Although the you know, the one against the A's. I
- 19:23Speaker 3: give him some Slackmann because I thought I thought the
- 19:25Speaker 3: wind really carried that ball where he kind of back.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I think it looked worse than what it actually was
- 19:30Speaker 3: because of the wind. But you know, that being said,
- 19:32Speaker 3: he has some other adventures out there, but overall he's
- 19:35Speaker 3: been solid, so I expect him to stay there for
- 19:38Speaker 3: the most part. Well, he gets some more dh days probably.
- 19:42Speaker 3: We saw him take a DHA against Sacramento, and that's
- 19:46Speaker 3: just it's just good to get a guy off his
- 19:47Speaker 3: feet once in a while, right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: You make a really good point about a contract here
- 19:51Speaker 1: and a guy getting shelled and be a part time
- 19:54Speaker 1: the Age player, not an every day outfit or too.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Gary. It's great to talk to you, it always is.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I appreciate all the time you give us in your
- 20:00Speaker 1: and man always work preparing for games, and you spend
- 20:03Speaker 1: time on the show and the listeners, and I appreciate it.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Thank you every time.
- 20:06Speaker 3: It's always a good time.
- 20:07Speaker 2: We'll talk to you all right, Gary Hill Junior.
- 20:09Speaker 1: He's busy this weekend with the Mariners at home against
- 20:12Speaker 1: the Arizona Diamondbacks starting tonight. It's seven to ten pm,
- 20:15Speaker 1: first pitch, the first place Mariners. It's got a fun
- 20:18Speaker 1: to say that, even though they're still trying to get
- 20:20Speaker 1: the five hundred.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll take it, you know, fans will yeah, take
- 20:24Speaker 4: what exactly, it's what they are.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It's not what you.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Want, but in reality, it's what you want.
- 20:29Speaker 2: How's that?
- 20:30Speaker 4: How do you make any sense? My goodness, No, I
- 20:32Speaker 4: get your.
- 20:32Speaker 2: First place, doesn't matter who else is with him. Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 2: he's in your division.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Gary Hill Junior says to expect news today later this afternoon,
- 20:40Speaker 1: probably late this afternoon, at least an update, if not
- 20:43Speaker 1: full out news on Cal Rawley and Brendan Donovan and
- 20:46Speaker 1: their progress coming back off the injured list, probably doing
- 20:49Speaker 1: a little bit of throwing down at the Mariners facility
- 20:52Speaker 1: in Peoria, Arizona at the beginning of this week, and
- 20:55Speaker 1: Gary Hill Junior pointing out that Justin Hollander at the
- 20:57Speaker 1: beginning of each homestand does meet with the media before
- 21:00Speaker 1: the game and update injury issues and I'm Raleigh. He's
- 21:04Speaker 1: right Raleigh, and Donovan will be the first question today.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So expect something coming out of pregame from the maritors
- 21:10Speaker 1: up next. Expect something you get every day at eleven
- 21:13Speaker 1: thirty on this show, the Tacoma Dodge text line.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You're part of it.
- 21:17Speaker 1: We'll read back your text next, and then Ian Finnes
- 21:19Speaker 1: will join me. He's right outside the studio door right
- 21:22Speaker 1: now before his show starts twelve to three. Here on
- 21:24Speaker 1: ninety three point three kjr FM. Wowow, welcome back to
- 21:30Speaker 1: the show. The Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd is
- 21:33Speaker 1: live on a Friday from cloudy, drizzly cool Seattle. Hopefully
- 21:39Speaker 1: it's a writer son of your day where we might
- 21:41Speaker 1: be listening ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 21:43Speaker 2: You know what time it is.
- 21:44Speaker 1: The music means it's time to read back your text
- 21:46Speaker 1: on the Tacoma Dodge text line four nine four or
- 21:49Speaker 1: five one.
- 21:50Speaker 4: All right, here we go. This is from Trevor out
- 21:54Speaker 4: of the four two five summer nineteen ninety seven. My
- 21:59Speaker 4: college basketball team worked as a security guard at the Gorge.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Prince was the first concert next, Rage against the Machine.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Prince.
- 22:07Speaker 4: He blew my mind. The energy he had Raid was
- 22:10Speaker 4: next level and different kind of energy. Zach de Laura
- 22:14Speaker 4: Della Roach excuse me played nwa f the police after
- 22:19Speaker 4: that County It let's see It's constituence tried stituents yep,
- 22:25Speaker 4: YEP tried to shut down the show the entire week
- 22:28Speaker 4: leading up to their appearance due to his outspoken political views.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Prince was a hooper too, so that story with Dave
- 22:35Speaker 4: Chappelle might be really very accurate.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I'm god, I'm not the only one that remembers that
- 22:41Speaker 1: there were a couple other people in the text line
- 22:42Speaker 1: talking about that Prince concert. It was Prince of This
- 22:45Speaker 1: is from the four to five. Yes, sir, mister bell
- 22:48Speaker 1: I was there as well. Prince at the Gorge was amazing.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Should I read this next part? You know you can
- 22:54Speaker 1: edit it as you see.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Fit.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I was on mushrooms and thought that he was playing
- 22:59Speaker 1: the po with his feet was just a part of
- 23:01Speaker 1: my trip. Oh but like that, But no, it was real.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It happened, and it was just as you said. That
- 23:08Speaker 1: was otherworldly, truly a phenomenal talent and was taking away
- 23:12Speaker 1: too soon. Peace from Everett thanks to the four two
- 23:14Speaker 1: five for that that did happen.
- 23:16Speaker 4: From the two six, Hey, guys, Watershed Festival at the
- 23:19Speaker 4: Gorge in August. Not much of a country music fan,
- 23:22Speaker 4: but the eye candy is unbelievable. It sounds like a
- 23:26Speaker 4: single person there. Enjoy your time down there.
- 23:31Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 23:32Speaker 1: We began the show talking about caudlemew In his suicide
- 23:37Speaker 1: three days after being honored in Montreal and raising a
- 23:41Speaker 1: torch before playoff game and all seeming right with a
- 23:43Speaker 1: man who had it all and Michael the two five
- 23:48Speaker 1: to three as a man who lost his father to suicide.
- 23:51Speaker 1: My heart just aches for his family and ale in
- 23:53Speaker 1: the heart that will never heal. Four five said I
- 23:57Speaker 1: sorry Michael for your loss and thank you for sharing that.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Four two five said, I've never heard of cloudlem you
- 24:02Speaker 1: until yesterday. I'm not much of a hockey fan, but
- 24:05Speaker 1: I'm sitting in my car crying thinking about his son
- 24:07Speaker 1: finding him. This was a great segment for you guys
- 24:10Speaker 1: to lead off the show with empathy. It's so important
- 24:13Speaker 1: but also uncommon. Two oh six what empathy can't spell that?
- 24:19Speaker 1: Obviously I'm being sarcastic, but I had a person recently
- 24:22Speaker 1: asked me why anyone would ever need empathy as a
- 24:25Speaker 1: military veteran. I know some selected selection courses literally select
- 24:30Speaker 1: for empathy in their officers. I tell my daughter military
- 24:33Speaker 1: officer that all the time that the most important thing
- 24:36Speaker 1: to be as an officer is empathetic because especially in
- 24:39Speaker 1: the military, all walks of life that I mean all
- 24:43Speaker 1: walks of life. And that's one of the great pluses
- 24:46Speaker 1: and strengths of our military is how it's from all
- 24:48Speaker 1: walks of life and know how empathy is so paramount.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So thank you for that as well.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Here we go, this is from the four to two five.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Greg.
- 25:01Speaker 4: What are your thoughts on hockey so far this postseason?
- 25:04Speaker 4: Outside of that sweep we just witnessed.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Hockey, It has been great. I've been rooting for I
- 25:10Speaker 2: was rooting for the.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Buffalo Sabers because my ties to Western New York and
- 25:14Speaker 1: my friends out there and the great people of Western
- 25:16Speaker 1: New York and how long it's been since Buffalo made
- 25:20Speaker 1: it deep into a playoff run. But Montreal, I'm rooting
- 25:24Speaker 1: for Canadians, I mean Canada in the world in the
- 25:27Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Final is just Edmonton's done it the last
- 25:30Speaker 1: two years and they come up short. It looks like
- 25:32Speaker 1: Montreal is going to fail in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It'll be thirty four years since Canada won its sports championship.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I was rooting for Montreal, but the competitiveness, the intensity,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I've talked about this, it's just off the hook. To me,
- 25:49Speaker 1: it's the best sport postseason in sports. Yes, better than
- 25:52Speaker 1: the NFL that I cover. The Stanley Cup playoffs to
- 25:55Speaker 1: me are non parallel with anybody else any other sport postseason.
- 26:00Speaker 1: That's my opinion, and I know not everyone shares it,
- 26:03Speaker 1: but it's just an amazing spectacle.
- 26:04Speaker 2: It really is.
- 26:05Speaker 4: This is a hot take if I've ever seen one.
- 26:08Speaker 4: From the two five to three, I would like to
- 26:11Speaker 4: see the Seahawks trade for Alvin Kamara for depth at
- 26:14Speaker 4: the running back position.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm glad this come up. This is coming up Kamara
- 26:22Speaker 1: in New Orleans. The Saints writers that are friends of mine,
- 26:25Speaker 1: longtime Saints, right, Mike Tripp, what's one of them. I
- 26:27Speaker 1: used to cover with the Sacramento b He was the
- 26:28Speaker 1: forty nine Ers writer to be when I was the
- 26:30Speaker 1: Raiders beat writer in the early two thousands. They're all
- 26:33Speaker 1: talking about like as if Kamara is out the door.
- 26:35Speaker 1: He's thirty years old. The Saints signed Travis Etienne Junior
- 26:40Speaker 1: in free agency, and the Saints also restructured Kamara's contract.
- 26:46Speaker 1: He's in a two year, twenty four million dollars dear,
- 26:48Speaker 1: this is the last year of his two year deal,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and they restructured his contract to where it is no
- 26:53Speaker 1: longer has any guaranteed money. He's owed ten million dollars,
- 26:56Speaker 1: none of it guaranteed, as I understand it, which makes
- 26:59Speaker 1: him so much more tradable then he would have been
- 27:01Speaker 1: if all that ten million was guaranteed. So it seems
- 27:04Speaker 1: like they're greasing the skids in New Orleans to get
- 27:06Speaker 1: rid of Kamara, and in fact, coach Kellen Moore this
- 27:10Speaker 1: month was asked a couple weeks ago was asked about
- 27:12Speaker 1: the future and whether the Saints are having a decision
- 27:16Speaker 1: or close to a decision on Kamara's future, and Kellen
- 27:19Speaker 1: Moore said, quote, I think part of the off season process.
- 27:22Speaker 2: During phase three of the off season program.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Is you're going to go through a little bit of
- 27:27Speaker 1: the building process, still finalizing some things, and so that
- 27:30Speaker 1: comes with time. But yeah, we're getting close. You wouldn't
- 27:34Speaker 1: say that if you have a guy, if he's in
- 27:36Speaker 1: your plans at the top of your depth chart, you'd
- 27:39Speaker 1: tell Alan Kamara is a Saint, we're gonna roll. We
- 27:41Speaker 1: got him and at the end, let's go. So it
- 27:44Speaker 1: does sound like they're moving them the Seahawks. We've said
- 27:48Speaker 1: this before. Chris John Schneider's in on everything. He prides
- 27:51Speaker 1: himself on making the calls. He and Mickey Loomis go
- 27:53Speaker 1: way back. Mickey Loomis, of course, used to be in
- 27:56Speaker 1: the front office here in Seattle, the Saints general manager.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'm sure they have talked already, and if not, they
- 28:03Speaker 1: will talk about Alvin Kamara and what it would take
- 28:06Speaker 1: in the trade. I would think Kamar, at this point
- 28:09Speaker 1: in his career, thirty years old, would not command a
- 28:11Speaker 1: starting player in a trade, would you. I think that's
- 28:13Speaker 1: a draft a mid round draft pick of a third
- 28:15Speaker 1: day draft.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Pick, perhaps fifth rounder, fourth and fifth, That would be
- 28:19Speaker 4: my guess.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 4: And I don't know if the Stocks are willing to
- 28:22Speaker 4: do that because they do.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Have twelve picks next year eleven now because they traded.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Just in terms of the running back position, do they
- 28:28Speaker 4: need Kamar? Would he be an addition? I don't think
- 28:31Speaker 4: he'd be a subtraction. I think he's just neutral. I
- 28:33Speaker 4: don't I honestly don't know.
- 28:34Speaker 1: It depends what they think of Emmanuel Wilson, doesn't it.
- 28:36Speaker 1: The guys, Hey, he's an unknown to us.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I know he was like, yeah, I don't know. He's
- 28:41Speaker 4: gonna make the roster, whereas Alvin, He's going to probably
- 28:44Speaker 4: be in the rotation more. But he's also old. He's
- 28:48Speaker 4: been playing forever. This is like his eleventh season.
- 28:50Speaker 1: If he has been playing for a long time and
- 28:52Speaker 1: only thirty years old, thirty one, I believe it is.
- 28:54Speaker 2: You look it up.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I think he's but yeah, you're right, he's got where
- 28:57Speaker 1: on him he got he's catching.
- 29:00Speaker 2: He was a third, three down back for the Saints.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Hell, when the Seahawks lost to the Saints, him and
- 29:05Speaker 4: Tatum just had a career day.
- 29:07Speaker 1: He's ramped against them. He has absolutely romped in multiple
- 29:10Speaker 1: games against them. That's true as well. I would not
- 29:13Speaker 1: discount it. Okay, I do think they are gonna they
- 29:16Speaker 1: have the ability to take on a veteran in salary.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be interior defensive line. But I
- 29:23Speaker 1: wouldn't roll it out.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'm glad that's it. Four two five. I'm glad the
- 29:27Speaker 2: textter brought that up.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that was interesting.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I like that.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Well, we'll see what happens. This is from the two
- 29:32Speaker 4: oh six I'm a Day Late, My bad high school
- 29:35Speaker 4: wrestling movie with Matthew Modine. Vision quest Ah was set
- 29:39Speaker 4: in Spokane.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I believe I've heard that.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I've heard that it was a Spokane setting movie. I
- 29:44Speaker 1: don't know if they I don't know other than people
- 29:47Speaker 1: seeing Spokane things that they said. Oh, I don't know
- 29:51Speaker 1: if it's a Spokane movie. But yeah, Revenge of the Nerds.
- 29:55Speaker 1: We'd have a Revenge of the Nerds reference earlier.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Yes, this this is from the two o six Prince
- 30:02Speaker 4: halftime show. Bears Versus called super Bowl Point Rain most
- 30:06Speaker 4: memorable concert. Think you mentioned that too, Greg, Yeah, maybe
- 30:10Speaker 4: when we first to the show two years ago. So yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 4: from the two o six last one for me working
- 30:16Speaker 4: outside in the drizzle. So you guys are my only
- 30:19Speaker 4: ray of sunshine this morning.
- 30:20Speaker 2: That's love. Appreciate to six. I appreciate that. Thank you.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Sorry you're doing it in the rain, but I appreciate that.
- 30:28Speaker 1: What else in the tuos?
- 30:29Speaker 2: Uh? That's the Revenge of the Nerds.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Would you be the one on Luke Trade value four
- 30:36Speaker 1: five says Luke Raley has no trade value.
- 30:40Speaker 2: He is a defensive liability.
- 30:44Speaker 1: It says, of course, Julio Rodriguez. No, it says Victor
- 30:46Speaker 1: Rubley should be the everyday center fitter, Julio Rodriguez, every
- 30:49Speaker 1: day right fielder. Luke and JP traded for a third baseman.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I'm not sure you want to trade Luke Raley and
- 30:58Speaker 1: JP Crawford.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I mean, depends on what you get back.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Right really has been really good against right handed pitching
- 31:05Speaker 1: in that platoon.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I don't know about that trade Luke really really.
- 31:12Speaker 1: That would be Yeah, they need more hitting, not less,
- 31:17Speaker 1: and they third baseman. I think that's where Brenda Donovan's
- 31:22Speaker 1: going to go back to. I not sold it. He's
- 31:26Speaker 1: the answer, of course, but he's bad. As Gary Hill
- 31:29Speaker 1: Junior told us last segment, he changes the lineup when he's.
- 31:32Speaker 2: At the top of it, for sure.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Marcus two six s as the Women's College World Series
- 31:37Speaker 1: in softball might be the best tournament in sports. Those
- 31:43Speaker 1: are some pretty neat games and always tense and always
- 31:46Speaker 1: down to the wire. And there were a couple last night.
- 31:49Speaker 1: ESPN's gone all in on it. I know that they
- 31:51Speaker 1: put it on ABC even and they really give him
- 31:54Speaker 1: a platform for sure. Up next, the Mayor and Maple
- 31:58Speaker 1: Valley I and for Nass join us before his show
- 32:01Speaker 1: twelve to three. Thanks for all the text as always,
- 32:04Speaker 1: including those about mental health and awareness and appreciating us
- 32:07Speaker 1: starting the show with that, thank you for the appreciation.
- 32:10Speaker 1: That's what I was trying to get at. He ends
- 32:12Speaker 1: up next on ninety three point three kJ r F M.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Greg Bellt Show with Christopher Knnon
- 32:27Speaker 1: ninety three point three kjr FM. Last segment, it was
- 32:33Speaker 1: interesting the text line bringing up the fact that Alvin
- 32:37Speaker 1: Kamara is available for trade, reportedly from the Saints, and
- 32:42Speaker 1: one of the Texters said, why don't the Seahawks trade
- 32:44Speaker 1: for Alvin Kamara?
- 32:45Speaker 2: What do you think of that? History? Ian for now.
- 32:50Speaker 5: Kamara thirty years old.
- 32:53Speaker 2: No, No, they restructured his contract, got rid of most.
- 32:56Speaker 6: Of the they wrapped a running back in the first round.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yes they did.
- 32:59Speaker 5: No, No, I'll pass.
- 33:02Speaker 6: I'll pass if this was like six years ago, yeah,
- 33:04Speaker 6: I mean it was before he got in trouble off
- 33:06Speaker 6: the field. I mean, I don't you know what I
- 33:09Speaker 6: think that Listen, don't expect guys to require boys. I
- 33:13Speaker 6: get it, but I don't think they need that. No,
- 33:17Speaker 6: I don't think that. I don't think the talent at
- 33:19Speaker 6: this point out ways outweighs what's going on. So yeah,
- 33:25Speaker 6: I don't think that. I don't think that is the case. No,
- 33:27Speaker 6: I'm a big character guy. I'm all about character. You know,
- 33:30Speaker 6: look at me. Just ask you, just ask me, ask
- 33:33Speaker 6: me about character. I'll tell you about it.
- 33:37Speaker 2: We're we're tipping the lead here, but Luke Falk has
- 33:40Speaker 2: just walked into the studio. Yes, yes, yes, yes, right
- 33:43Speaker 2: off the top of them.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Darnold was his backup at one point, Yes, sort of,
- 33:47Speaker 6: maybe it was the other way around.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He's leading off your show.
- 33:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I got an hour with Luke. I'm gonna hang out.
- 33:55Speaker 6: We're gonna talk about a bunch of stuff. I'm excited, like, well,
- 33:58Speaker 6: well we'll get into Yeah, hey, say how to Luke there,
- 34:01Speaker 6: he's mister see this guy social media guy. If there
- 34:04Speaker 6: was one guy when he was at Wazoo that I
- 34:06Speaker 6: wouldn't think would be the king of social media, it
- 34:08Speaker 6: would have been him. And now he is, well he's
- 34:11Speaker 6: selling books and stuff, so getting a business started. But yeah,
- 34:14Speaker 6: we're we got fun. We'll talk the state of college
- 34:17Speaker 6: sports football, what's going on at Wazoo. Cook's first things
- 34:20Speaker 6: going on today. He's got a book out really cool,
- 34:22Speaker 6: has to do with some mental mental health stuff. I
- 34:24Speaker 6: heard yourself with with Claude talking about Claude lem you earlier,
- 34:29Speaker 6: you know, because when it was so odd when when
- 34:32Speaker 6: we saw that he had died yesterday, right because it
- 34:36Speaker 6: was it was Monday. He was at in Montreal doing
- 34:40Speaker 6: the torch that whatever they do. Every NHL team does
- 34:43Speaker 6: the same, you know, does something right to start the game.
- 34:45Speaker 6: And he was there and then he's gone in forty
- 34:48Speaker 6: eight hours later, You're thinking, well, my god, was it
- 34:50Speaker 6: a heart attack?
- 34:51Speaker 5: He didn't look sick.
- 34:52Speaker 6: And then we find out he took his own life
- 34:54Speaker 6: and uh, and died by suicide. And I'm always very
- 34:57Speaker 6: careful about how we say that died by suicide, that
- 35:00Speaker 6: is how you say it, because we work so high,
- 35:02Speaker 6: work so closely with Kim and Mark, with the Lenskys.
- 35:04Speaker 6: That yeah, anytime, anytime you see that, it just it
- 35:09Speaker 6: hits home out there and stuff. And we got the
- 35:12Speaker 6: golf tournament coming up soon to help benefit the Hillsky's hope,
- 35:15Speaker 6: and I saw that and it's like wow, like you
- 35:17Speaker 6: just you just don't know, right, you just don't know.
- 35:20Speaker 2: So and if one person listening, one yeah, says do
- 35:24Speaker 2: you know what? I'm just going to ask about so
- 35:26Speaker 2: and so that's that's good.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Well, it's worth it. I told this.
- 35:29Speaker 6: I've told the story a bunch of times, and so
- 35:30Speaker 6: people might get upset when I'd say it again. But
- 35:33Speaker 6: you know, when we the money that we give that
- 35:36Speaker 6: we make for the golf tournament goes to Jordan Moore's
- 35:38Speaker 6: Foundation for Type one diabetes.
- 35:40Speaker 5: It goes to.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Avery Huffman DIPG Foundation, which is a pediatric form of
- 35:46Speaker 6: tumor and brain that's there's no cure in Brandon Huffman's
- 35:49Speaker 6: daughter died by that, and then Helinsky's Hope. And one
- 35:54Speaker 6: of the years that we did it, I want to
- 35:56Speaker 6: say it was twenty twenty two, maybe that Mark and
- 36:01Speaker 6: Kim took their Tyler Talks and went to Eastern Washington
- 36:04Speaker 6: and they did in one day. They did Eastern Washington, Gonzaga,
- 36:08Speaker 6: and Whitworth. And I remember our football coach at Whitworth
- 36:12Speaker 6: said afterwards he texted me, he said, I had I
- 36:16Speaker 6: forget what the number was, three or four student athletes.
- 36:19Speaker 6: I don't even know if it was all football could
- 36:20Speaker 6: have been a volleyball player, could have been girl soccer.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 36:24Speaker 6: We said, we had three, three or four athletes that
- 36:26Speaker 6: went right after that and asked for help.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Wow, and you're just thinking, okay, three or four three
- 36:31Speaker 5: or four four, And you know that.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Was just a random sampling, which means if you take
- 36:36Speaker 1: that across a campus, across a campus, or across a conference,
- 36:40Speaker 1: and you're talking hundreds.
- 36:42Speaker 6: Right, And that's and that was. And I thought to myself, well,
- 36:45Speaker 6: I think I think whitworth that day? One hundred and
- 36:47Speaker 6: five football players, You had volleyball, men's and women's soccer
- 36:50Speaker 6: across country and they say they had a couple hundred
- 36:53Speaker 6: athletes in there. Eastern would have had at least that
- 36:55Speaker 6: many that day. Gonzaga doesn't have football, so maybe a
- 36:58Speaker 6: few less. But let's just say on that particular day
- 37:01Speaker 6: they've talked around four or five hundred kids and how
- 37:05Speaker 6: many went and asked for help afterwards. And then you
- 37:08Speaker 6: look a guy like Claudel the Mew he's sixty years old,
- 37:10Speaker 6: like I'm sixty, yes, like I kind of want to
- 37:13Speaker 6: be around for a while, Like I can't fathom that
- 37:17Speaker 6: world of being so dark, but it does get there
- 37:19Speaker 6: and so yeah, I heard you guys talking about that
- 37:20Speaker 6: today earlier. Seahawks do a good job with that, right, Like,
- 37:23Speaker 6: they do a really good job. They've I think a
- 37:24Speaker 6: lot of teams have become a lot more cute in
- 37:27Speaker 6: tune with that as well.
- 37:28Speaker 5: On mental health.
- 37:28Speaker 1: And it's not that I have answers and I've had this,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I've dealt with it in my family as well, mental
- 37:34Speaker 1: health issues. But I at least just want my intent
- 37:37Speaker 1: is the awareness piece and maybe just someone asking, hey,
- 37:40Speaker 1: how's it going. Yeah, you may not get a straight answer,
- 37:43Speaker 1: but you may Yeah.
- 37:45Speaker 2: And the one time you do might save a life.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely absolutely.
- 37:48Speaker 6: And you know Lynsky's do it because of the pressure
- 37:51Speaker 6: playing college sports. Yes, but they have actually expanded theirs.
- 37:54Speaker 6: You'll love this. They've expanded their so they do a
- 37:57Speaker 6: lot of speaking to military. They talked to a lot
- 38:00Speaker 6: of military people.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Because yes, that is a huge problem in our military.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I think the fact that that there have been bases
- 38:07Speaker 6: and branches of the military that have let them in
- 38:11Speaker 6: to do that now is also a big step for us.
- 38:13Speaker 5: So yeah, so I'm just big fans.
- 38:16Speaker 6: Yeah, golf term people that keep asking texting, we'll have
- 38:18Speaker 6: sign ups here in a couple of weeks. We'll give
- 38:19Speaker 6: you everybody heads up on the radio, but we're dialed
- 38:23Speaker 6: in July tenth through its Glenn and hit the ball.
- 38:26Speaker 6: Some of his ex teammates come out there, much to
- 38:28Speaker 6: my chagrin, guys like Peyton Ploor.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's a gong show.
- 38:35Speaker 3: It is.
- 38:35Speaker 6: But we will welcome huskies out there too. No, man,
- 38:41Speaker 6: they're all welcome. Hey, you know what, we're raising money
- 38:44Speaker 6: for the kids. Their money is green too.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, ducks fans come on out, you know what. Talk
- 38:51Speaker 2: them a little bit more, make.
- 38:53Speaker 5: Him buy a couple more raffle tickets.
- 38:55Speaker 2: You give him Luke out there.
- 38:56Speaker 6: We've talked about his schedule is always kind of scared.
- 38:58Speaker 6: We'd love to have him there. Yeah, we're we'd love
- 39:00Speaker 6: to get him out there. So yeah, when I tell
- 39:03Speaker 6: them all the guys that all those ex teammates that
- 39:04Speaker 6: are out there that could be a good or a
- 39:06Speaker 6: bad thing. When I tell them was there because that
- 39:09Speaker 6: group we have this little tradition where that group of
- 39:12Speaker 6: ex Tyler's teammates, his teammates that came out, they come
- 39:15Speaker 6: to our house because we're right close to the golf course.
- 39:17Speaker 6: They'll come to our house afterwards for a little while
- 39:19Speaker 6: and drive the neighbors crazy. There's like three or four
- 39:23Speaker 6: ubers out in front of our house about one in
- 39:24Speaker 6: the morning.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I think you can drive your neighbor I was at
- 39:27Speaker 1: your house for a neighbor celebration.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I don't think you can drive your neighbors crazy. The
- 39:31Speaker 2: whole damn town showed up for your graduation party.
- 39:34Speaker 6: Well not mine, but yeah, no, I mean through yeahs
- 39:38Speaker 6: graduation party. We have a good neighborhood. I was a
- 39:41Speaker 6: good neighborhood. It's all like if you're either you're either
- 39:44Speaker 6: one of us or you're not.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I noticed that I walked in and my son night
- 39:48Speaker 2: all eyes on us. Who are these guys?
- 39:50Speaker 6: These guys remus that just got invited, these guys rolling
- 39:53Speaker 6: in the Did you guys, how'd you get through customs?
- 39:56Speaker 2: That's what I felt.
- 39:57Speaker 6: Maple Valley has I don't know people know this. Maple
- 39:59Speaker 6: Valley's got like a customs Like you gotta hello, sir,
- 40:02Speaker 6: what's the purpose of your visit?
- 40:03Speaker 2: How long are you going to be here? Are you
- 40:06Speaker 2: bringing anything across?
- 40:06Speaker 6: Do you have any fruit you're bringing into the building
- 40:08Speaker 6: into the area. So Lucian Joorye for the for the
- 40:13Speaker 6: noon hour, we'll check it Danny O'Neil weekly visit coming
- 40:16Speaker 6: up at one twenty. Well, we'll talk piggyback of course,
- 40:21Speaker 6: and we'll get in a little bit more of that
- 40:22Speaker 6: coming up in the in the two o'clock hour as well.
- 40:24Speaker 6: So yeah, fun show coming up to them. I'm really
- 40:26Speaker 6: excited for the first bit having this guy here.
- 40:28Speaker 2: That's great.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and again thanks on behalf of all of us
- 40:31Speaker 1: for what you do in that golf tournament and just
- 40:33Speaker 1: causes that you support from.
- 40:35Speaker 6: I couldn't do it without the support of the people
- 40:37Speaker 6: listening that come out and play, and certainly all of
- 40:38Speaker 6: our great partners as well. So and I should shout
- 40:41Speaker 6: out like all the Mariners, the Seahawks and the Kraken
- 40:46Speaker 6: are all big, big supporters of what we do.
- 40:49Speaker 2: That's great.
- 40:50Speaker 6: And it takes like one quick question and they get
- 40:52Speaker 6: asked for a ton of stuff all the time. And
- 40:54Speaker 6: I just whether it be Kevin Martinez, Chuck Arnold or
- 40:56Speaker 6: Todd light WICKI just thanks to those guys. They do
- 40:58Speaker 6: they understand the work we're doing and while we're doing it,
