- 0:00welcome to the Find the Root Cause podcast.
- 0:03If you are a woman who knows that something feels off in your body, but you are tired of being dismissed, rushed, or told everything is normal, you are in the right place.
- 0:14I'm Dr.
- 0:15Jennifer Gentie, but my patients call me Dr.
- 0:17J.
- 0:18Each week, we'll connect the dots between your symptoms, your hormones, your energy, your gut, your mindset, and the deeper root causes that may be keeping you stuck.
- 0:29Because your body's not broken, it's communicating.
- 0:33Let's find the root cause Ooh, okay.
- 0:36Let's do this I have sat down to record this episode at least five different times.
- 0:42Every time I turned the microphone on, the device on, I stopped.
- 0:48Not because I did not know what to say.
- 0:50I think I knew exactly what I needed to say.
- 0:53I was just not ready to say it this honestly.
- 0:58Four months, four weeks, I have felt like something was off.
- 1:03Not because anything terribly happened, not because I stopped believing in the work that I do, not because I no longer care about helping women.
- 1:11Something felt off in me.
- 1:14You know when you have that feeling that something is just off?
- 1:17And if I'm being completely honest with you, I have been recording this podcast more out of obligation than excitement.
- 1:23That has been difficult even now to admit because the podcast has been part of my life for years.
- 1:31It has help and held so many versions of me.
- 1:36It has given me a place to teach, a place to develop my voice, a place to share the things that I wish more women understood, and I will always be grateful for that.
- 1:47But somewhere along the line, I realized I was no longer excited to press record.
- 1:53I could still do it.
- 1:54I could still sit down, prep the topic, organize the information, research it, and record the episode, but I was completing it, I was performing, and I was not feeling it, and that is the difference I think I have outgrown my own podcast.
- 2:12There I said it.
- 2:14And even saying it out loud feels so vulnerable because when you have invested years into something, it is difficult to admit that it may no longer fit you, especially when nothing is technically wrong with it.
- 2:32The podcast did not fail.
- 2:34I did not suddenly stop loving medicine.
- 2:37I did not run out of things to teach.
- 2:40I simply began to feel like I was trying to fit the woman I am now into a space created by an earlier version of me, and that space started to feel so small.
- 2:53All right.
- 2:53When I started this podcast, I was very clear about what I wanted to do.
- 2:58I wanted women to understand that what they were experiencing was not random, not normal.
- 3:05They weren't crazy.
- 3:07I wanted them to ask deeper questions.
- 3:10I wanted them to know that they did not have to settle for being dismissed or told to simply live by how they felt, by their symptoms, to settle for less, really.
- 3:21I wanted to take complicated health information and make it understandable.
- 3:26I wanted to help women connect the dots that has been never been connected for them.
- 3:32And at that time, that was exactly the work I needed to do.
- 3:36The Dr.
- 3:36Genti has something to say.
- 3:39She wanted to teach.
- 3:41She wanted to prove that there was more to the conversation.
- 3:44She wanted women to feel seen.
- 3:47She believed that if she could explain things clearly enough, maybe a woman listening will stop thinking she was imagining stuff and just believing in themselves.
- 3:58I love that version of me.
- 4:01I am so part of that version.
- 4:03I do not regret one episode I recorded, not one title, not one lesson, not one moment where I sat in front of a microphone and tried to make something clearer for someone I will probably never met.
- 4:15That is exactly where I was when I began this journey.
- 4:20But beginnings are not always where you are meant to stay So for a long time, every time I prepared to record, I started with the same kind of questions.
- 4:32What health topics should I record?
- 4:34What symptoms should I discuss now?
- 4:37What should I explain?
- 4:38What are women searching for?
- 4:40What problem should I help them solve?
- 4:43And those are not bad questions, but eventually I noticed something.
- 4:47I was no longer creating from curiosity.
- 4:50I was creating from expectations.
- 4:52I had built an invisible box around myself.
- 4:56I am the doctor, so I should discuss this.
- 4:59My audience expect health information, so I should record that.
- 5:03It is Thursday, so an episode needs to be finished.
- 5:06I should stay consistent.
- 5:08I should keep going.
- 5:09I should make this work.
- 5:10There were a lot of shoulds and very little excitement.
- 5:14The funny thing is, the conversations that were energizing me were not always happening when I was recording.
- 5:21They were happening after appointments, after workshops, during conversation with my patients, while making difficult decisions in my business and in my life, while questioning something I had always believed, while reflecting on marriage, leadership, identity, success, healing, purpose, and the different versions of ourselves we become throughout our lives.
- 5:43Those were the conversation I kept thinking about after, over and over.
- 5:48Those were the conversation that made me reach for my phone and write down my thoughts and some notes.
- 5:54The conversation about why women felt guilty receiving support, why capable women continue caring roles that are exhausting them, why we confuse being needed with being valued.
- 6:07Why growing into a new season can feel beautiful and uncomfortable at the same time.
- 6:14Why some decisions are difficult, not because we do not know the answer, but because the answer changes how we see ourselves.
- 6:24This conversation felt alive.
- 6:26They were deep conversations.
- 6:29But then I would sit down to record and tell myself,"Nope, that does not fit the podcast.
- 6:34Come back to the health topics." And every time I did that, I felt a part of myself left the room.
- 6:41So recently I got married And when I shared a little bit of that season of my life online, I noticed how people responded.
- 6:49Of course, there were likes, congratulations, thoughtful words, messages, but that was not what stayed with me.
- 6:57It was the warmth, the messages, the curiosity, the feeling that people were not simply reacting to an event.
- 7:04They were connecting with another side of me.
- 7:08They were seeing the woman behind the doctor, and that stopped me because I realized that perhaps some people do not only need another doctor giving them information.
- 7:21There's already more information available than most of us could ever use.
- 7:26You can search almost any health topics online.
- 7:29You can watch videos.
- 7:31You can read articles.
- 7:33You can ask AI, artificial intelligence, to explain a condition, suggest questions to you for your doctor, organize a wellness plan.
- 7:40Information is everywhere.
- 7:43But information is not the same as connection.
- 7:46It is not the same as perspective.
- 7:49It is not the same as sitting with someone who is willing to say,"This is what I am seeing.
- 7:55This is what I have learned.
- 7:57This is what I got wrong.
- 7:59This is what this season of my life is teaching me, and this is how it may connect to something you are living through right now." Maybe people do not need me to keep proving how much I know.
- 8:13Maybe they need me to let them know me, and not every private detail, not every part of my life, but my perspectives, my personality, my questions, my lessons, my mistakes, the way I connect health with the life a woman is actually trying to live.
- 8:31That realization felt exciting, and also, if I'm being honest with you, very uncomfortable because expertise can become a very safe place for me to hide.
- 8:42When I'm teaching, I know my role is as the doctor.
- 8:47I have prepared the information.
- 8:49I know where the conversation is going.
- 8:52But showing more of myself asks something different of me.
- 8:56It asks me to be present without always having a lesson perfectly packaged.
- 9:02It asks me to trust that the way I see the world has value, even when I am not standing behind a medical topic.
- 9:11It asks me to let the conversation breathe, and I think I am ready for that now I have been asking myself, what does the world actually need from me in this season?
- 9:26Does it need another episode where I can explain something people can actually search for themselves, or does it need someone willing to have honest conversations about how all things connect?
- 9:38Health, relationship, business, ambition, identity, marriage, leadership, purpose, mistakes, healing, becoming, because these are not separate lives.
- 9:48We do not have a health life, a business life, a relationship life, and a private life that never touch one another.
- 9:56We have one.
- 9:57One life.
- 9:59The way we work affects the way we feel.
- 10:02The way we love affects the way we receive.
- 10:05The way we lead affects the way we rest.
- 10:08The way we perform affects what our bodies carry.
- 10:13The choices we delay affects how much energy we spend pretending we are undecided, and the version of ourselves we are have outgrown can become heavy long before we are willing to admit it.
- 10:28That is the conversation I want to have.
- 10:31I still care deeply about health.
- 10:33I am still a doctor.
- 10:35That will always be part of how I see the world.
- 10:39I am no longer want health to be in the box.
- 10:42I want it to be one doorway into much bigger conversation.
- 10:47I still believe healing begins un- beneath the surface.
- 10:51I just no longer believe that the surface is limited to lab work, to diagnosis, to symptoms.
- 10:59Sometimes what is beneath the surface is a belief, a relationship, responsibility, a decision, a fear, a business, a role you have been playing for so long that you no longer know who you are without it.
- 11:12Sometimes the body's part of the story, and sometimes the story is what the body has been carrying.
- 11:19I want room for both.
- 11:21And maybe this conversation is not only about my podcast.
- 11:24Maybe there's something in your life that still looks right from the outside but no longer fits true on the inside So, what if you have simply outgrown the way you have been doing things for so long?
- 11:39A role, routine, definition of success, a version of strength, a dream you choose, right?
- 11:45We do not always outgrown things because we were bad.
- 11:49Sometimes we outgrown them because they did the job.
- 11:52They brought us here, and then they became too small for who you were becoming.
- 11:59That does not mean this past is a mistake.
- 12:03It means that the past was a chapter.
- 12:06And chapters are allowed to end.
- 12:09Everything's allowed to end.
- 12:11So I am not leaving.
- 12:12I am expanding.
- 12:14This is not the end of my podcast.
- 12:16This is the beginning of something that feels more honest, more spacious, more alive, more like me.
- 12:23The next time you hear from me, you will notice that some things have changed.
- 12:28There will be a new name, a new look, a new direction, but the heart of why I began has not disappeared.
- 12:37I still want women to feel seen, heard, appreciated, loved.
- 12:42I still want to help people connect what they have not been able to connect.
- 12:47I still want to ask better questions.
- 12:49I still want to create conversations that help someone understand herself more clearly.
- 12:54I am simply allowing those conversations to become bigger.
- 12:58There will still be health, but there will also be life.
- 13:02There will be business and the parts no one talks about when they tell you to follow your dreams.
- 13:09There will be marriage, relationship, receiving purpose and identity.
- 13:12There will be mistakes I have made, things I am still learning, decisions I am processing, ideas I cannot stop thinking about.
- 13:21There will be conversations that begin in medicine and end somewhere completely unexpected.
- 13:28And I think that is exactly what has been missing.
- 13:33Not more information, more truth, more perspectives, more humanity, more room.
- 13:40So I do not know exactly where this next chapter will take us, and normally that uncertainty will make me want to plan every detail before saying anything publicly, but I do know how I want it to feel.
- 13:53I want it to feel like a real conversation.
- 13:56I want it to feel like you are sitting with me, not being lectured by me.
- 14:01I want it to feel thoughtful, honest, useful, and alive.
- 14:04I want to share what I know, but I also want to share what I am learning.
- 14:10I want to talk about health.
- 14:12I also want to talk about what we want to be healthy enough to experience I want to talk about the woman behind the symptoms, the person behind the title, the life behind the polished picture, the becoming behind the success.
- 14:29And for the first time in a long time, I am excited to press record again because I'm not boxed in anymore.
- 14:39'Cause my topics, the conversation's gonna be deeper, bigger, more expansive.
- 14:48That brings joy and excitement.
- 14:51So no, this is not goodbye.
- 14:53It is growth, and I cannot wait to meet you in the next chapter Thank you for listening to the Find the Root Cause podcast.
- 15:02If this episode helped you feel more seen, more informed, or more hopeful, share it with another woman who needs to hear that her body's not broken.
