- 0:01When you hire an air conditioning and heating company,
- 0:04you wanna make sure you hire one that really cares about you.
- 0:07Many care about themselves.
- 0:08It's kind of human nature.
- 0:09Actually,
- 0:09everybody,
- 0:10people really wanna know what's in it for them.
- 0:14Um,
- 0:14not necessarily true of Shafer heating and cooling.
- 0:18Uh,
- 0:18my good friend,
- 0:19Nathan Shafer is joining me here on the program today and I'd like to introduce Nathan.
- 0:24Nathan.
- 0:24Welcome to the program.
- 0:26Hey,
- 0:26thank you,
- 0:26Jim.
- 0:26Thanks for having me.
- 0:27Hey,
- 0:27it's great to have you here.
- 0:29Um,
- 0:29so I often like to ask this question of people who are driving their company forward.
- 0:35What is your,
- 0:36why,
- 0:37what gets you and your team out of bed in the morning?
- 0:41Yeah,
- 0:41that's a great question.
- 0:42You know,
- 0:42for me it's,
- 0:44uh,
- 0:44it's the ability and,
- 0:45and the privilege to not be able to serve others each and every day.
- 0:48Uh,
- 0:49you know,
- 0:49I always tell people as we go through,
- 0:51we're going through interviews and different things that it's,
- 0:53uh,
- 0:53it's a lot goes a lot farther than selling a box that makes hot and cold air,
- 0:57right?
- 0:57Uh,
- 0:57everybody can do that.
- 0:59Heck,
- 0:59you can go online and do that,
- 1:00why would you need us?
- 1:01And so for us,
- 1:02it's really about serving others.
- 1:04And for me,
- 1:04it starts with serving my team.
- 1:06Uh I like to see those around me win.
- 1:09That's how I'm able to win.
- 1:10So it starts with my team.
- 1:12That's that then transfers to our customer,
- 1:14which is why our core philosophy here at Shafer heating and cooling is a win,
- 1:18win,
- 1:18win.
- 1:19Meaning that in all situations,
- 1:21the customer wins,
- 1:22the team member wins and the company wins.
- 1:25And to me that equals long term success.
- 1:27Uh And that's a long term company.
- 1:29Uh because if any one of those three uh don't win in any given situation.
- 1:34Uh I mean,
- 1:35that's not,
- 1:35that's not gonna last long term,
- 1:36you know,
- 1:37uh that would be may maybe short term success if any at all.
- 1:40And so,
- 1:40uh for me,
- 1:41it's really just being able to serve others,
- 1:43help others and uh see those wins for everybody.
- 1:46You're absolutely right.
- 1:47It's like raising Children.
- 1:48It starts at home.
- 1:49You can really tell if kids were brought up well by the family.
- 1:53And so the parents take care of the kids and then the kids take care of society later.
- 1:58Uh We as business owners really have two customers.
- 2:03We have the external one,
- 2:05which is Mr and Mrs Smith,
- 2:07the people who you serve at the home and what you hear about and what is referred to as the internal customer which are the team members,
- 2:16the employees and if the employees are trained well and they're happy they're compensated well,
- 2:24then they're going to treat the customer well,
- 2:26ultimately,
- 2:27and it's,
- 2:28it's this win,
- 2:29win,
- 2:29win thing and it's so important.
- 2:31A lot of people kind of miss it.
- 2:34They're like,
- 2:35uh,
- 2:35I'm gonna treat my employees well,
- 2:37but we don't care about the customer.
- 2:38We're just gonna take their money or we really care about the customer.
- 2:41So the employees better darn do what I say.
- 2:44It,
- 2:44it's,
- 2:45it's a combination of all of that.
- 2:46Isn't that true?
- 2:48Oh,
- 2:48100%.
- 2:49Yeah.
- 2:49I mean,
- 2:50if,
- 2:50if the,
- 2:51if the customer doesn't win,
- 2:52the customer is not gonna keep coming back.
- 2:53Right.
- 2:53So they've got to win if the employee doesn't win.
- 2:56Well,
- 2:56the employee is not gonna keep coming back,
- 2:57the team member,
- 2:58uh,
- 2:58if the company doesn't win,
- 3:00well,
- 3:00the company is gonna be out of business and so it can't be lopsided or anything else.
- 3:03It doesn't matter which order they win because,
- 3:05you know,
- 3:05all three have gotta be winning,
- 3:07you know.
- 3:07Uh,
- 3:08I mean,
- 3:08what a,
- 3:09what a awesome,
- 3:10you know,
- 3:10experience it is to be a part of that each and every day and to see that,
- 3:14I agree.
- 3:14And I know as a homeowner that consumes home services,
- 3:17I wanna make sure that the people who come out to my home to do the repair work or the replacement work or the maintenance work are people who love what they do.
- 3:27They love showing up to work because it's a great working environment and they love what they do and it's very,
- 3:33very important.
- 3:33And at Shafer,
- 3:34that's what you guys do.
- 3:36It's,
- 3:36there are a lot of companies that do what you do.
- 3:38There's just a lot of companies that do what you do,
- 3:41but do,
- 3:41they really do what you do.
- 3:43So,
- 3:43technically they may have good technicians,
- 3:47they may have nice trucks and vans.
- 3:49They may have decent uniforms,
- 3:51but that's not what people really want as a homeowner.
- 3:54I want a good person showing up to my home who really cares about me,
- 4:00but also about themselves.
- 4:02If they don't feel good about themselves,
- 4:03they can't feel good about me.
- 4:05If they don't love themselves,
- 4:06they can't love me.
- 4:08Yeah.
- 4:09You know,
- 4:09we,
- 4:09we like to create what we call that,
- 4:11that wow experience.
- 4:12And,
- 4:13you know,
- 4:14in the past,
- 4:14I've always said that,
- 4:15you know,
- 4:15we wanna create that,
- 4:16wow,
- 4:16experience for our customers.
- 4:18You know,
- 4:18and,
- 4:18and these last couple of years,
- 4:19I'm like,
- 4:20you know what?
- 4:20I wanna create that wow experience for our customers as well as our team members.
- 4:24This should be a completely different,
- 4:26uh,
- 4:26experience for both because like you said,
- 4:28how in the world could I ever create a wild experience for the customers if the team member doesn't love their job,
- 4:35they don't love what they do.
- 4:36They don't love what they're a part of,
- 4:38you know,
- 4:38uh because there's so much more to it than just,
- 4:41just the job and just clocking in.
- 4:42But they truly love it and,
- 4:44and they enjoy what they do.
- 4:45Well,
- 4:45man,
- 4:45it's guaranteed that's,
- 4:46that's gonna bleed out into the,
- 4:48into the home of the customer and now both are gonna experience that,
- 4:52that,
- 4:52wow,
- 4:52experience in the end.
- 4:54Absolutely.
- 4:55I totally agree.
- 4:57Nathan,
- 4:57thank you so much for joining me today here on the program.
- 4:59I do love your why.
- 5:01Um and,
- 5:02and it's so important everybody think about this.
- 5:05You heard Nathan and I talk about this when you hire a home service provider for anything in your home,
- 5:11think about this conversation.
- 5:13You wanna have a company that has great people who really love the company,
- 5:18love themselves so they can love on you as the homeowner.
