- 1:52episode of Yours Truly Johnny Doller the Valentine manner parked one in part two from
- 2:01Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dollars New Britain Mutual. Johnny, Hi,
- 2:07right, how would you like to try some creole cooking? Okay?
- 2:10What's up? One of the bellhops Saint Agnes's Hotel in New Orleans had quite
- 2:15a time last night. He opened the safe and walked up with seventy five
- 2:17hundred dollars in cash and a diamond necklace with a cool twenty five thousand.
- 2:22So help me, Roy, I didn't know bellhops had so much fun.
- 2:24That isn't all. He also stole a station wagon belonging to the hotel manager,
- 2:29not to mention the manager's wife. What do you want back? Mainly
- 2:31that necklace. It's the property of one of our clients. She was stopping
- 2:36at the Saint Agnes and had a stood in the hotel safe. Any line
- 2:38on the bellhop not a trade so far? No, wife, don't be
- 2:40funny. Can you have a plane down there and see what's happened for us?
- 2:45Sure? Right? Tonight and every weekday night Bob Bailey and the transcribed
- 2:57Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed Expense account America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator,
- 3:02Yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Expense Accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar
- 3:17to the New Britain Mutual Insurance Company, Hartford, Connecticut. The following is
- 3:21an accounting of expenditures during my investigation of the Valentine matter. Expense account Item
- 3:29one one hundred and seventy five dollars in no sense airfare and the incidental costs
- 3:34it takes to get from Hartford to New Orleans. Once there, I was
- 3:37more than surprised to discover the police had wound up the whole case. The
- 3:40prodigal bellhop, along with the seventy five hundred in cash, the diamond necklace,
- 3:45the station wagon, even the vantager's wife had all been recovered, everything
- 3:50and everyone tearful, but intact. I reported this development to all parties concern,
- 3:54phoned the airport for a reservation back to Hartford, which they said would
- 3:59be the following afternoon, and then looked around for something to do. I
- 4:02found a spot on Burgundi Street that seemed to be less crowded than the others
- 4:05and settled down for the evening. That's where it happened. He was sitting
- 4:13alone, tall, gray haired, rugged, a face full of some fifty
- 4:17odd years. I guessed, and follow some other things no one could guess.
- 4:21It was three drinks at the bar before I made out who he was,
- 4:25who he had been, A man who was once big in a way
- 4:29that only prohibition made them big. The seat taken, no mind? If
- 4:38I sit down, mister Valentine, whoa you can't be that old? How
- 4:44old? Old enough to recognize me? Recognize you from your picture a long
- 4:48time ago. I'm I guess I could tell you more about that than anybody.
- 4:55You're a cup. Nah, I'm an insurance investigating you were a cup
- 4:58once once. Can I buy you a drink? Mister Valentine? Dan's enough?
- 5:03Sure you're doing better than the boys in the force. I've been living
- 5:08in New Orleans for three months now. Nobody's calling me. Any reason why
- 5:11they should. No, No, there isn't. But then, no one's
- 5:15ever figured out a way to stop a policeman from making a visit when he
- 5:17wants. Nah, that's true. I had a funny thing. There's a
- 5:21lot of policeman I've liked in my day visiting policeman. That is uncertain days.
- 5:29You're too young to remember much about a dollar. But a long time
- 5:31ago, a bunch of old women made a law called the Bolstead Act,
- 5:35sure prohibition. Everybody heard about him, including the old woman who passed the
- 5:42law. You see, this law was supposed to be for the other guy,
- 5:46not for them. Anyhow, a lot of people started bottling up violations
- 5:50of this Bolstead Act. Retired No, not a bit to him. Well,
- 5:55I got me a lot of money and a lot of trouble thirteen years
- 6:00income tax evasion, finally, and then just three months ago when I came
- 6:03here to live happily ever after. Funny, No, New Orleans is a
- 6:10nice quiet place to live. But it's still no one's bothering you. That's
- 6:14the way I want to keep it. And they can pass a thousand stupid
- 6:16laws, and I'm not going to fall for any of them. Everything the
- 6:19book says, everything in order. That sounds pretty good. Do you believe
- 6:25it? Yes? I do. Then I've got my point over. I'm
- 6:29flattered that you recognize me. Dollar. I paid back ten days for everyone
- 6:33I took. All I ask is that you don't ask the police to bother
- 6:36me. Okay, as far as I'm concerned, Dan, you didn't even
- 6:42have the dinner I'm about to buy for you dollar. It's nice to come
- 6:46out of prison be recognized by a nice guy. Where'll we go to me?
- 6:50Morams. That's where we went, and I was a swell dinner.
- 7:00Only Dan Valentine didn't eat much of him. He tried to smile and cracked
- 7:04wise, but there was a sadness about him that stood in the way.
- 7:09I wanted to ask him more questions about those days back when, but I
- 7:13didn't. We dropped into a couple of other places, the absentth House,
- 7:16Joe Gorrioso's. We listened to some jazz and drank sasarex and walked along Canal
- 7:21Street. Finally we shook hands and said good night. Expense account item two
- 7:29twenty six dollars and twenty six cents, hotel board and miscellaneous. The next
- 7:33morning, I packed my bags, checked out of my hotel and was about
- 7:36to take a limousine out to Mobile. I report, Oh miss Donna,
- 7:41yeah messy, Oh thanks. It was from a police officer on the New
- 7:46Orleans Force and Inspector Tobacca because I dropped by before I left town. I
- 7:51went right over and met Debacca, a tall, lean, gray haired man
- 7:55with thirty years service who kind of puzzled me at first. Thanks for coming
- 8:01bad, Donna, Sure, what's up the bellhop? Take back his confession
- 8:07on that necklace? Stiff, No, No, there's something else, Donna.
- 8:11Dan Valentine, Oh, you met him about six thirty last night.
- 8:16You had two drinks with him, and he went over to Morans and had
- 8:18dinner. He went to two other places. You left him at eleven thirty.
- 8:22Yeah. I also brushed my teeth when I got back to the hotel.
- 8:24But I bet you can't tell me what color my pajama. Take it
- 8:26easy, Just take it easy. Maybe I'm saying this bad. He doesn't
- 8:31know it. We've been keeping an eye on Danny ever since he showed up
- 8:35New Orleans. So happened you were with him last night and you did business
- 8:39with us here yesterday afternoon. So we want to know if you had any
- 8:43business with Dan Valentine. Don't be funny, inspector. Okay, okay,
- 8:46and I don't get huffy. Let me put it this way. Dan came
- 8:50to New Orleans three months ago, bought a house out in Jefferson Parish.
- 8:54He had a housekeeper, bought himself a little car, took up fishing every
- 8:58offer, just walking. Nothing wrong with that, of course there isn't.
- 9:03We liked it. Find the boys in the car. Driver by now and
- 9:05then look at him. Just look. No questions, no knocking on the
- 9:09door. When we see Danny in town, we turn the other way.
- 9:13Just look. You see. Sure, Now he doesn't have any visitors.
- 9:16The old pals from Chicago or New York or Detroit come to see him.
- 9:22He lives alone and he likes it. That's what he told me. You're
- 9:24his first visitor. Now, I just wonder you wondered wrong, Debacca.
- 9:31Okay, okay, I had to ask about it. You know how it
- 9:33is? Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, right on, que your
- 9:43pal just stopped a couple of bullets. Huh, Danny Valentine, come on.
- 9:52According to the uniform officer who had put in the call, a newspaper
- 9:54boy had found Valentine lying on the sidewalk and around the neighborhood. One of
- 9:58the residents had carried him inside. The amulance crew stood by the bed as
- 10:03we came in. Valentine was lying on his back, the white chinel spread
- 10:05under him, changing to a deep read. Two bullets had ripped ragged holes,
- 10:09and one shoulder through flesh and ball, but he was just as self
- 10:13contained as efforts. I got the idea you were going to stay out of
- 10:15trouble, Dan, I didn't know I was in any trouble. Are your
- 10:18daughter? Okay? You went to the police after all. No, the
- 10:22inspector called me in about you, Dan. But let's forget that for now.
- 10:26How'd this happen? Yes, cleaning my gun? You're losing, Dan.
- 10:31You're not supposed to have a gun. Oh you know me in the
- 10:33law, we sometimes didn't hit it off. Odd? Where is the gun?
- 10:39Gun? The gun you were cleaning when you were walking down the street
- 10:41and shot yourself. I swallowed them. Now. Look, somebody's taking a
- 10:46couple of shots at you, Dan. Nobody can tell us anything about it,
- 10:50but you so far. We don't want you murdered. Well, okay,
- 10:56boys, get the ambulance back. Wait a minute, Wait a minute,
- 11:00Right, you're going to the police hospital. No, No, I've
- 11:03served my time and I'm clean. Being shot at, even in this state,
- 11:07doesn't make you a criminal. Dollar. Yeah, Dan, do me
- 11:09a favor. Would you phone a private hospital and have me take him there?
- 11:15Go ahead, Johnny, take it easy, Dan. I did as
- 11:20he asked. A crew from one of the large private hospitals was out there.
- 11:24In a matter of minutes, and an hour and a half later,
- 11:26Dan Valentine was operating on and the bullet successfully removed from his shoulder. I
- 11:31waited around until he was taken to a private room and inspected to back.
- 11:35I waited with him. Dollar, Yeah, why don't you go back to
- 11:39Hartford. This isn't any of your business. I know my plane takes off
- 11:43at for I'll be on it. Why are you waiting around here? Oh?
- 11:48To see how he is? I guess you balue you. I just
- 11:52met him last night. You know that, But you're waiting around. Yeah,
- 11:56you want me to tell you why you're waiting around. You want to
- 12:00make sure he's okay. You met him last night, and outside of what
- 12:03you ever read or heard about him, you don't know him from a load
- 12:07of coal. But you want to make sure he's going to be all right.
- 12:11Well, so do I. Because in that room, on that bid,
- 12:16that's quite a man. I about summed it up no matter what he
- 12:22had been or what he had done. Dan Valentine was quite a man.
- 12:28It was the same thing that had caused me to go over to him the
- 12:31night before and start a conversation, the same thing that caused me to believe
- 12:35his plans for living a quiet life in New Orleans. He came out of
- 12:39the anesthetic a half hour later and he sent for me. Hi. They
- 12:43say it's gonna be okay. Oh sure, sure, this is nothing.
- 12:48I just wanted to thank you for giving me a hand. Devaca could probably
- 12:52help you more. All you have to do is tell him who shot you
- 12:54and why I shot myself, and just for something to do. Look,
- 13:00Dan, I have a fair idea of how tough things were for you and
- 13:03how tough they can be now. But inspected Debacca understands it too. You'll
- 13:09do everything he can to help you, but you have to help him.
- 13:11Dan de Bucca is a good boy. You're right, you'll tell him who
- 13:15shot you. If there was any way he could help me, I'd let
- 13:18him know first. I'll handle this myself because you want to be getting your
- 13:24airplane. Yeah, good luck, kid, same to you. I went
- 13:35back to my hotel, picked up my bags and took a cab to Mobilan
- 13:37Airport. My plane had developed engine trouble and there was going to be a
- 13:43five hour delay. I killed time at the bar and in the restaurant and
- 13:46just standing around looking at the field at night. By that time, the
- 13:50newspapers carried the story of the attempt on Dan Valentine's life. It was as
- 13:54skimpy as the story Dan had told himself, and it troubled me. Yeah,
- 14:00I'm distant. Show a few from Hartford. You can take it right
- 14:01in there. Oh thanks, Johnny Doller? Right? Nick? Is Johnny
- 14:11a New Britain mutual lea touch him? Just waiting for my plane back to
- 14:15Hartford. Now, this story about then Valentine's and all the papers up him,
- 14:18have you ready? Yeah? I was in on it in a way.
- 14:22Somebody shot at him today he won't tell who, says he'll handle it
- 14:24himself. Can you find out, Johnny? I don't know all why we
- 14:28carry a fifty thousand dollars policy on him. Somebody's trying to kill him.
- 14:31We'd like to know all about it. You mean I can stay here and
- 14:35work on this, yes, okay, Roy, Johnny Doller, This is
- 14:58Johnny Debacca down at headquarter. He left called for me. That's right,
- 15:01Inspectoria, But you went back to Hartford. Now the company I represent happens
- 15:05to hold an insurance policy on Dan Valentine. They asked me to stay here
- 15:09in New Orleans and look into this attempt on his life? Are they here
- 15:13about it so fast? While I wasn't all the papers and on the wire
- 15:16services. Valentine's always been New was ever since prohibition. Yeah, like him
- 15:20would be, you know as much as I do, don and lead.
- 15:22Yet he's still quiet about the whole thing. Yes, lack a mouse who
- 15:26won't open except to see he'll take care of himself. Maybe it'll help matters
- 15:31when he finds out the insurance company's interested. You know some I don't think
- 15:35me, you, the whole Force insurance company, anybody else can keep that
- 15:39bird alive unless he helps us. Expense accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar
- 15:56to the New Britain Mutual Insurance Company, Hartford, Connecticut. The following is
- 16:00an accounting of expenditures during my investigation of the Valentine matter. Expense account continued
- 16:07Item three three bucks one telegram to Roy Vickers in Hartford requesting a copy of
- 16:12the policy contracts between New Britain Mutual and Dan Valentine, plus the name and
- 16:18location of the beneficiary and any other debt on the case. After that,
- 16:22I walked over to the police station and looked up inspected to Bacca, sit
- 16:27down. Thanks, I don't quite getness. Tell them what's your part?
- 16:33Well, the insurance company would like a full report on everything that's happened.
- 16:36That's all you can given that on the back of your thumbnail. Couldn't you
- 16:38not quite inspector? Oh, you mean a separate report from what we have
- 16:42something like that. Yes, they do. They can spend it anyway they
- 16:45want to. I guess if there's any reason for them canceling the policy on
- 16:49Valentine, they'll do it. The fact that somebody shot at him a couple
- 16:52of times and came near killing him is one thing. The fact that he
- 16:56won't open his mouth about it as another. Looking for a way, I
- 17:00didn't say that. They just want to make sure about everything. That's all
- 17:03an insurance policies a contract mutually beneficial of both parties. Both parties have to
- 17:08keep the line of that contract. They don't figure Danny Valentine's run around shooting
- 17:12himself. Insurance money inspected. They don't figure anything. Well, now that
- 17:18you've been official, beyond official, what's your idea. Well, Valentine's got
- 17:25a legitimate policy with a company. They don't want to see him kill.
- 17:27They tell me to investigate the shooting. Actually, they're telling me to see
- 17:30to it that he stays alive. And well, hell, that makes sense.
- 17:34Good luck. If you'll sort of let me tag along on the case,
- 17:37i'd appreciate it. We'll see what's the matter. Now. It just
- 17:42good to me. Valentine bought our house out in Jefferson Parish three months ago,
- 17:47a couple of days after he was released from federal penn He's lived there
- 17:52quiet, minding his own business, keeping his nose out of trouble. Yeah,
- 17:56as long as a man does that, even a man with a background
- 17:57like Valentine, As long as a man does that, we don't bother him,
- 18:03and he doesn't bother us. Well, so what happens yesterday? You
- 18:07meet him and have a couple of drinks with him? Hello, goodbye?
- 18:11Boom boom. You gets shot twice by somebody somewhere. You're a bad newsboy.
- 18:18Now that's as wild as you can get we had nothing together except the
- 18:22drinks. You sure, I'm sure, well, I'm thinking about it just
- 18:26the same, Kim, be back in a minute. The bunky thick folder
- 18:36inspected Tobaka shoved across the desk at me was marked Valentine Daniel. It started
- 18:41nineteen fifteen and was fat with yellow clippings all the way through nineteen forty two.
- 18:47It was a pretty good history of Dan Valentine and the age he lived
- 18:49in. He was born in Ireland and had fought in the Irish Rebellion.
- 18:53He was regarded as both hero and scoundrel. For his own good, he
- 18:57came to America somehow. He started out on the wholesale drug business, and
- 19:03understandably it was an easy step to making prohibition alcohol and an even easier step
- 19:07to make prison on an income tax Evasian charge. The fullder mentioned a wife
- 19:11and a daughter who seemed to have successfully avoided most of the newspaper headlines that
- 19:15had involved Dan Valentine. There was one picture of Missus Valentine taking in nineteen
- 19:21twenty eight. That's about as far as I got when Debacca came back into
- 19:23the room. Not alone interesting stuff, very inspector very where is some more
- 19:30interest? My men have been covering the neighborhood where the shooting happened yesterday afternoon.
- 19:36This man's a witness. This mister Dollar is an insurance investigator, as
- 19:40Willie Blakeley. Oh how do you do, sir? I hope you can
- 19:44help us willing, well, I can. Crime. I really didn't see
- 19:48too much. See, I was on my milk truck, and I saw
- 19:52this fellow, this this big fellow, walking down the street. What's his
- 19:55name, Dan Valentine? Yes, well, he was just walking, like
- 20:00for an early morning walk. And then I saw this car come around the
- 20:03corner and there were a couple of men in it. What kind of car?
- 20:07I think it was a buick seed. Then I'm not sure it was
- 20:08a black car. Having to get the license number. Now I'm go on,
- 20:15Well, sir, this mister Valentine, he looked up when he saw
- 20:18it coming and he stopped, you know, kind of funny. No,
- 20:21I don't know, tell me, you know, like he was surprised.
- 20:25Do you think he was surprised at who was in the car? Yes,
- 20:27sir, that's it. He sort of smiled, not a hello kind of
- 20:32a smile. It was sort of a sad smile, didn't wave, just
- 20:36stood there. I couldn't see the men in the car by then, so
- 20:38I don't know how they were looking at him. Did you see them as
- 20:41they round at the corner, Yeah, just a couple of fellows, dark
- 20:45coats and hats. Would you know them if you saw them again? I
- 20:49don't think so, Kevin, Okay, two men, yes, suh?
- 20:56So this this mister Valentine stopped and looked at him and and give him this
- 21:00kind of smile. You recognized him, you think, Oh? Yeah?
- 21:03And then I heard a noise, you know, something like whack whack,
- 21:07and mister Valentine fell down and the card drove off. Did Valentine go for
- 21:11a gun? Noser? What did you do? Then? I got out
- 21:14of there. Why. I didn't know what was happening. I didn't want
- 21:17to get hurt. He didn't even try to help him, Nosa. I
- 21:19was scared. I didn't know what that whack whack was, Sir. It
- 21:22took you all this time to tell us about it. Sorry, Kevin Darling,
- 21:30Yeah, you got something to worry about. That noise he was talking
- 21:33about didn't sound like regular gunshots, or he would have said so silencer.
- 21:40What else inspected? Debaka continued to question the witness, trying to ascertain more
- 21:48details about the shooting, the car and the men inside the car. Four
- 21:52hours later, when I left, he was still at it some more expa
- 22:00item four two dollars and a half cab fare from police station to hospital.
- 22:07I thought i'd drop in and take a chance on Dan Valentine coming across with
- 22:10some information. Sorry, no visitors, it's pretty important. I'm a friend
- 22:15of his. I'm sorry one can I see him? It's hard to say.
- 22:17Mister Valentine's condition is not too good. What well, nothing to be
- 22:21alarmed about. He lost so much blood. He's in a weakened condition.
- 22:25The doctor's ordered a transfusion. Oh you can phone in later, too light?
- 22:29Excuse me, yes, ma'am, I should like to see mister Valentine.
- 22:33Please. I'm sorry. I was just telling this gentleman that's impossible.
- 22:37How is he? He needs rest? The doctor feels he'd be better off
- 22:40without visitors at the moment. Thank you. I had a feeling about the
- 22:48gray haired, well dressed woman, and I hurried after her down the long
- 22:51corrit or outside the hospital. I was just in time to see her take
- 22:53a cab that had been waiting at the curb. I managed to hail one
- 22:56myself, and we tagged along Canal Street behind her until she paid off the
- 23:00driver in front of the Roosevelt Hotel. I was right behind her when she
- 23:03stopped in the lobby and got a key to room ten sixteen. I gave
- 23:07her five minutes. Then I knocked on her door. Hello, missus Valentine,
- 23:15my name's Johnny Doller. Anne Valentine looked at me for a long time.
- 23:23I had to hand it to her. There were no tears, no
- 23:26frowns or screams, just a wide, frank look from a woman who,
- 23:30by any van's standards, had once been beautiful. I haven't been called by
- 23:37that name for many years. You're a reporter, of course, No I'm
- 23:41not. I'm an insurance investigator in a policeman's office. Today I saw one
- 23:45of the few pictures ever taken of you at this hotel. I registered under
- 23:48the name of Anne Ward. What is good enough for me, Missus Valentine?
- 23:52May I come in? Yes? Now? What is it you want,
- 23:57mister Dollar? Possibly the same thing you want to keep your husband alive.
- 24:03I believe that's up to the doctor's isn't it not quite? If he
- 24:07was shot at once and he won't help the police find out who did it,
- 24:10there's a reasonable chance to be shot at again. Do you know who
- 24:12did it? Well? Who it might be? Look, the police have
- 24:18found a witness who describes two men as having done the shooting. Can you
- 24:22add anything to that, mister Daller. I haven't seen Dan in over thirteen
- 24:26years. I haven't written to him, talked to him, or contacted him
- 24:29in any way, either while he was in prison or these last few months
- 24:32he's been out. It was his idea, but he must have had a
- 24:34reason he did. Our daughter, Oh, she believes that Ward was her
- 24:40dead father's name. Do I make myself clear? Yeah? I read about
- 24:47the shooting, and I caught the first plane here because I thought I might
- 24:48help Dan. My daughter thinks I'm on a little vacation by myself. You
- 24:56don't believe me, do you? Well, in view of what you've just
- 24:59said about not having written to him for thirteen years, was the way he
- 25:03wanted it. I was never ashamed of Dan. Never he was ashamed of
- 25:07himself and how his activities might affect us. He gave me everything I ever
- 25:11had out of life in New Salem. That's where we live and live very
- 25:17well. Because Dan sort of that part of it before he went to prison.
- 25:19We are considered very proper people Therese and myself. Dan sacrificed a great
- 25:25deal for that consideration. I think that you sacrificed a great deal yourself,
- 25:29Missus Valentine. When I go back to the hospital to see him tonight,
- 25:32he'll probably tell me to pack my bag and go home, that there's nothing
- 25:34to worry about. But there is something to worry about, isn't there,
- 25:37Missus Valentine. He won't talk about it, and you won't talk about it,
- 25:41and both of you know all about it. Oh, mister Dollar,
- 25:45you're a very young man. I'm sorry. If I sound like I could
- 25:48help you, I can't. Please go. I went back to my hotel
- 25:56and had some dinner. Then after a while I put in a phone call
- 25:59to the hospital and found out I could talk to Dan Valentine between seven thirty
- 26:03and nine about Then a special delivery came for me. It contained the information
- 26:07I wanted regarding the policy on Dan Valentine. I noticed that the beneficiary was
- 26:11a jewel affair wife and daughter Ann and to race a wall. I had
- 26:15to check with Inspector Tobaca just once more, no luck. He had been
- 26:19unable to identify or locate the two killers described by the witness he was trying
- 26:23to trace the car. Seven thirty on the dot, I was at the
- 26:26hospital. The reception desk seemed reluctant to talk and referred me to the head
- 26:30nurse, who happened to be out to dinner, who referred me to the
- 26:33surgical nurse, who took me aside and told me to find a crystal ball.
- 26:37Mister Valentine's gone. We have no idea why how could he be gone?
- 26:41We started giving a transfusion, it jumped up, suddenly knocked down.
- 26:45One of the male nurses, grabbed his clothes and ran out of the hospital.
- 26:48Just as simple as that. I thought he was in a serious condition.
- 26:51Keep your voice down. He was in a serious condition, and it's
- 26:55going to be pretty good pretty soon, running round town bleeding from two bullet
- 26:59wounds. If you want to keep him alive, mister Dollar, you better
- 27:03find him and find him faced. I thought over what Dan Valentine had told
- 27:12me in the hospital earlier about taking care of the matter. Himself, and
- 27:17the more I thought about it, the more I realized he was going to
- 27:19do just that, even if it killed him. There'll be another intriguing episode
- 27:40in our story of the Valentine matter tomorrow. Tomorrow What happens to a thirty
- 27:45year old grudge when somebody explains it with bullets? Join us, won't you?
- 27:49Yours? Julie, Johnny Dollar? Yours Truly Johnny Doller starring Bob Bailey

- 29:18back, Well, no obvious ties to George Falentine and a very I think
- 29:23a very human story so far and pretty well done here, a lot of
- 29:32suspense. Will Johnny be able to save Van Valentine? Well, you'll have
- 29:36to join us on Wednesday to learn more. Will we turn out? A
- 29:40listener comments and feedback and Kevin provides an answer to a question many listeners have
- 29:47been asking. Hi Adam regarding today's listener comment. In response, the music
- 29:52you use comes from the second movement of Symphony number one in F minor open
- 29:59snumber ten by Dmitri Shostakovich. Shostakovich, I think s h O S T
- 30:08A K O v I c. H AFRs sometimes use classical music clips to
- 30:15end their programs. This piece was used perhaps on several dramas. I can't
- 30:19remember where I first heard it, but it was something other than pat Novak.
- 30:23I had heard it in its original symphotic context before, but had to
- 30:27search a bit to find the exact composition. You'll begin hearing the familiar strains
- 30:33of theme music beginning a minute into the second movement. Hope this adds to
- 30:37someone's trivial pursuit enjoyment. Keep it up, Adam, as always, I
- 30:41love it all. Well, thanks so much, Kevin, and I knew
- 30:47it was something classical, but now at least I know how I've been adding
- 30:52about forty two seconds or well, maybe a little less of culture to everyone's
- 30:56lives. Here is every time we played the theme music, and we have
- 31:00a review from the apps over on iTunes Walking in DC Roots. I've been
- 31:08using this app since it first came out several years ago. Adam is part
- 31:12of my day every day. I love the show. Recently, the app
- 31:15stopped updating. I was surprised to see a tech support button, but I
- 31:22reported the problem and it was fixed within a few hours. Amazing. Well,
- 31:25thanks so much, and really when dealing with the app, that's the
- 31:29ideal way if you run into technical problems, to hit the technical support and
- 31:33length. While I'd be glad to help, most of the time, all
- 31:37I can do is report it to tech support. So that's definitely the way
- 31:42to go. And I'm glad you were able to find some quick resolution from
- 31:48the folks at a Wizard Media. They're the ones who actually manage the technicality
- 31:56of the app. All right, Well, that we'll do it for today.
- 32:00We'll be back tomorrow with the adventures of Frank Grace and join us on
- 32:06Wednesday for the next part of the Valentine Manner. In the meanwhile, send
- 32:08your comments to Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net, follow us on Twitter
