Transcript
- 0:00Oh my, it's Most Things Kenobi where we always have the high
- 0:05ground. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 0:20episode of Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and
- 0:23all things Star Wars. I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:27And I'm your host, Leanne. And I'm excited because this is
- 0:30another OB one episode. This is so.
- 0:33Silly and I love it. This is great, I really enjoyed
- 0:37researching this one. Me too, IA lot of surprises were
- 0:41had in trying to find a total number of hallways.
- 0:46Overwhelming. Imagine him, he's the one that
- 0:50had to fight out all these good old Obi Wan.
- 0:56Yeah, we're talking about hallway scenes where Obi Wan
- 0:59fights his way out or through a hallway, which.
- 1:02And there's, there's more than you think.
- 1:05A lot more, yeah, way more than Luke or Vader put togethers.
- 1:09Yes, however iconic both of their hallway scenes were.
- 1:13Yes. Obi Wan's a very seasoned
- 1:16hallway veteran. Just like he has the most
- 1:22severed limbs count, he also has the best hallway scenes.
- 1:25Most Sith defeated. Severed limbs, hallways, we
- 1:29could go on. Yeah.
- 1:31So yeah, all things, all things Kenobi it should be, but.
- 1:36It's all hallways. All hallways Kenobi.
- 1:42Oh my God, But what if we ended the show with hallways instead
- 1:47of always? Oh my God, that is such dad
- 1:55humor right there. May the Force be with you
- 2:00always. Well, we'll try to remember at
- 2:05the end. Stay tuned to the end.
- 2:07We'll see what happens, see if we remember.
- 2:11If our perimenopause brains can remember that.
- 2:14Yeah, good luck. See you in 40 minutes.
- 2:18But before all that, we have a special shout out.
- 2:21Yes, we want to do a Patreon shout out because our patrons
- 2:25are the fucking best and they just really.
- 2:27Shout outs, all of them, all at once.
- 2:31Big party shout outs, but we're doing this one at a time.
- 2:34Yes, and today is Diane. Diane.
- 2:38Diane is the like anytime I see that Diane is joining our Zoom
- 2:42chat or our hang up, I'm just overjoyed.
- 2:46I'm like, yes, Diane is here. I just, I adore her and she
- 2:51can't always make it, so when she can I'm just overjoyed.
- 2:56I cannot disagree with any of that.
- 2:58She is my raucous sister, my Sith Lee sister who gets parts
- 3:03of me that no one else does besides other sickos who love
- 3:07Vader and Anna Cannon. I say that with love and
- 3:11admiration. I'm just here to tell you.
- 3:14Yes, only positive things. Diane, you're, you're just
- 3:17delightful. You're intelligent, you're
- 3:19insightful. And we're just so pleased.
- 3:22You're part of our family and she's been with us a long ass
- 3:25time. Very long time Diane, we love
- 3:27you and appreciate you and thank you for being a part of this
- 3:30wacky do family called most things Kenobi.
- 3:35All right. Well now shall we talk about
- 3:37hallways? I think we should.
- 3:40Oh my goodness. OK.
- 3:42The way we went into this, at least initially, took what we
- 3:46could off the top of our heads, right?
- 3:48The ones that came to mind first.
- 3:49Then we did a little digging. You probably did more digging
- 3:52than me because you have access to Disney Plus.
- 3:55I do not. Currently, I buy it when a new
- 3:57show comes out. And then I have the Clone Wars
- 3:59DVDs, but I don't have anything that plays ADVD anymore.
- 4:02So. They're useless.
- 4:03Same same. So I did a lot of this with
- 4:08memory and some episode Googling.
- 4:11Like I would go through some of the Obi Wan dual episodes and
- 4:16try and find a hallway that I could.
- 4:19Is this just clone wars or is this all Obi Wan?
- 4:22No this is all Obi Wan. I found the non clone wars wants
- 4:25to be much easier because there's less of them, but the
- 4:28clone wars themselves is massive.
- 4:30It's a lot. It's it's really.
- 4:32It's a long list. And then I have questionable
- 4:35hallways, corridors, suspended bridge, like things narrowing.
- 4:41Ways I was watching, I was like, we could do a whole episode on
- 4:46catwalks. Yes, because Obi Wan also finds
- 4:49himself on precipices that are narrow and may not be considered
- 4:53a true hallway because they're not fully enclosed.
- 4:57Yeah, I have the same same kind of notes here.
- 5:00Okay, let's just read what we got on our list and then go, OK,
- 5:05let me ask you this question upfront.
- 5:07What's your total number that you were able to come up with
- 5:10for for this particular episode? 15-16 something like that.
- 5:14Damn, I only have 10 and one questionable hallway.
- 5:19I was going to say there are a few here where I asked the
- 5:22question, will we count this because kind of, I don't know.
- 5:27So yeah. Yes, OK.
- 5:29Also, there are lots of scenes that take place in a hallway
- 5:32that do not involve fighting that didn't include.
- 5:35Those no, the fight is symbolic because we've talked about like
- 5:40Luke in the hallway and then Ray's in a hallway, and then of
- 5:43course Vader's in the So the hallway is symbolic of many.
- 5:46Things and like Obi. Wan in a hallway is doubly
- 5:51significant because he is not a cinnamon roll and you do not
- 5:56want to encounter a non cinnamon roll in a hallway.
- 6:00To box him in. Don't Nobody puts all we want in
- 6:03a corner or a hallway. Now he's going to dance Dirty
- 6:09Dancing. Exactly.
- 6:10Him and Anakin, yeah, they're. Going to do the jump at the end
- 6:13of Dirty Dancing, yes? Exactly the list.
- 6:18Well, OK, do you want to start with everything else that isn't
- 6:23Clone Wars and then go to Clone Wars?
- 6:25Or do you want to do it vice versa?
- 6:29Yes, that's how I did it for myself, just to keep myself
- 6:32sane, because if I tried to put it chronologically, I think I
- 6:35might. Oh yeah.
- 6:36Lose my mind. Yeah, so I just did non
- 6:41animation and then animation. So that's pretty much what I
- 6:43did. OK, so let's do it.
- 6:45Space Twins strike again. Indeed, a New Hope.
- 6:49Shall we begin there? That's what I have first.
- 6:52I do too. It's the I mean, this is the
- 6:55original right here. Him and Vader meet in the
- 6:58hallway at the end of what? Launches his career in a
- 7:02hallway. That's it.
- 7:03So how doubly significant is this?
- 7:06Not only is he a badass, he launched his career in a
- 7:09hallway. And it's it's very underwhelming
- 7:16compared to lots of other versions of him, you know,
- 7:20fighting in a hallway. But yeah, that was the first
- 7:23one. And it's significant because he
- 7:24actually dies in a hallway. Yeah, I mean, nothing like a a
- 7:30snake eating its tail. He began and ended in a hallway
- 7:34and every hallway in between. It's true.
- 7:37Lived that moment. All right, so we have the
- 7:40original fight with Vader and then we move on to I have the
- 7:46Kenobi series next, just because I was thinking of things
- 7:50rattling them off in my head and I have two hallways in Kenobi
- 7:53series. I have 4:00.
- 7:56Damn, what did I miss? Some might not count.
- 8:01Well, we have the famous one of him in the hallway with the
- 8:04troopers and Leia and with the water in the fortress.
- 8:08Yes, there's actually 2IN that. I mean, I guess it's maybe 1
- 8:11long extended sequence because he rescues Leia and then he's
- 8:15fighting the Droid and a couple stormtroopers and like, that's
- 8:18where he starts to kind of reconnect with himself and you
- 8:21see, he does a little twirl. Yes.
- 8:25And he's getting his mojo back. And then it goes into the I know
- 8:30which is reborn in a hallway. I love this.
- 8:34Besides in the hallway, Reborn in the hallway is bizarre.
- 8:37I. Love it.
- 8:41Star Wars and hallways, man. They're a source of infinite
- 8:44power. It's an umbilical to something
- 8:47new. It really is.
- 8:50And then there's the water sequence, which, OK, I've been
- 8:52told because I haven't played the game, I've told that that is
- 8:55like lifted right out of the. Oh, I've been told.
- 8:58What is the game? The one with Cal Castus, which
- 9:01now I'm suddenly blanking on. It's something Jedi.
- 9:04That's good. That was good.
- 9:06I own it. I was gonna say Jedi.
- 9:08I own it and I'm terrible at it. Yeah, it's, I've watched it
- 9:12because it's too hard for me to play.
- 9:13But I have a scene before that in Episode 2 where he's in that
- 9:19Breaking Bad drug den and he fights in the hallway but with
- 9:23his hands, which I am a particular fan of.
- 9:26I completely forgot about that one and I should shame on me,
- 9:30should not have forgotten it because he's using his hands.
- 9:33It's short, but I enjoy every moment of it.
- 9:36Yeah. The only other one I had was in
- 9:40Jabeem against the Stormtroopers when Tala unfortunately passes
- 9:44away. It's kind of like a tunnel
- 9:47they're escaping, but it's definitely it would be a hallway
- 9:50on a map. Yes, I agree and that's that
- 9:54scene is heartbreaking because it's like it's a reflection of
- 9:57his experience with Qui Gon. Also with the, you know, the ray
- 10:01shield, she's she shoots the door control and he gets closed
- 10:06out of being able to rescue her in that moment.
- 10:09What's the other one? Well, OK, this is my question
- 10:12mark. Does it count?
- 10:13Not really, but kind of When at the end in Episode 6 where he's
- 10:17fighting Vader through the cinder cones.
- 10:20OK, I also thought about this. I also thought about this.
- 10:23Because it feels. It's got that same feeling, but
- 10:26it's obviously not an actual hallway.
- 10:28I don't think it counts as a hallway, but it's significant.
- 10:31Does Obi Wan fight better when there are physical restraints?
- 10:37Like not restraint restraints but like when he's physically
- 10:41minimized by some structure around him?
- 10:45Does it cause him to? Question.
- 10:47It's like threading the needle, a pinpoint.
- 10:50Yeah, well, that's so interesting because they say
- 10:53that Qui Gon kind of got killed by Maul because he was in an
- 10:59enclosed area. And I think he practiced Ataru,
- 11:02and Ataru is supposed to give you room to jump and leap.
- 11:05It's like what, Yoda? Does right right?
- 11:07And so when you're closed in a tight space, you can't fully
- 11:11express the the form, whereas Obi Wan was trained in that and
- 11:17then changed to Ceresu so. Fabulous.
- 11:21I don't know, You might be on to something there.
- 11:24I think that's a really interesting point you make,
- 11:27because the thing I also love about this, Yeah, is that he's
- 11:31master of Ceresu, right? Which is the defensive form
- 11:35he's. And in fact, he's so good at it.
- 11:37He's like impenetrable, They say.
- 11:39Like you can fire all these laser bolts at him and he'll
- 11:43deflect everyone. Truly.
- 11:44But these are all examples of him being put into a tight space
- 11:48and is forced to attack, and he's really good at it.
- 11:52Yeah, he's really, really, really a master at handling
- 11:57these situations that he ends up finding himself in over 15 times
- 12:02or more documented times. Yeah, so.
- 12:06There's almost no examples of him cracking under pressure.
- 12:10There's it's probably just mall. And like once and it's a
- 12:16flicker. Yeah, and like the with Vader in
- 12:20the Kenobi series, but only when they first encounter each other.
- 12:23And he hasn't even started using the Force yet, so.
- 12:27Exactly. And that was he wanted to
- 12:29protect Leia. At that point.
- 12:31It wasn't about fighting Vader, it was about drawing him out.
- 12:34So he had. Exactly.
- 12:36Yeah. Didn't care if he died and he
- 12:38was just doing his duty. Yeah.
- 12:40Oh, he's just like Luke too. Oh Jesus, God.
- 12:45Or the more we talk about this, the more I'm like God I love him
- 12:48so much. That's the point of this whole
- 12:51thing, meaning that not that not just the podcast, but the
- 12:56episode is that he's just so damn good.
- 12:59Yeah. All right.
- 13:02We'll elaborate further. Let's move on to Revenge of the
- 13:05Sith. I have two I'm questioning
- 13:08Grievous's ship scene. I have the same question 'cause
- 13:11it was like. Yeah, again, I guess.
- 13:16It's like if you want to split hairs.
- 13:18But it's not. I don't think it's a hallway.
- 13:20I don't think it's a hallway. And it's kind of not in the
- 13:23spirit of what we're talking about, but like I did consider
- 13:26it because it is an extended sequence that takes it for
- 13:29fucking ever so. But don't, don't, don't worry,
- 13:33folks. We'll get to Grievous more in
- 13:36the Clone Wars section of this episode.
- 13:38True, This is very true. There's these two.
- 13:42These two have history in hallways, which I think it's
- 13:46hilarious because Grievous doesn't even fit in them, but
- 13:48we'll get to that. He's always a spider in the
- 13:52hallways, yes. Yes, he can't stand up straight.
- 13:55No, which that's we'll get there.
- 13:58So the other one I have is the duel on Mustafar with Anakin.
- 14:02They move through a hallway and also a precipice and also a
- 14:06balcony of some kind. They hit every scenario
- 14:11possible. The tiny platform, large
- 14:14platform, lava field, Hard Rock, it's just everything you could
- 14:18imagine. Yeah, it's got it all.
- 14:21This fight has everything, Stefan.
- 14:23Yes. Yes, I wish you could have Bill
- 14:27Hader on our show just one time so he would know how much we
- 14:31love Stefan. Somebody e-mail him and tell him
- 14:33we need this. That's all I have for Revenge of
- 14:39the Sith. Do you have anything?
- 14:40Else I I love the part I it's so short it's like that even 5
- 14:46seconds long where they move through the actual hallway in in
- 14:49Revenge of the Sith on Mustafar and their blades are like
- 14:53hitting the walls as they go through.
- 14:55It's such a cool moment. Love it, great addition.
- 15:00I have something from Phantom Menace, I don't know if you.
- 15:03I do too. That's my.
- 15:04That's my next. One.
- 15:05OK, OK. I literally only have the mall
- 15:08versus Kenobi scene. He begins in a hallway, He's
- 15:12locked in that corridor where he watches, and then he's then
- 15:16released to duel with mall. And that's like a it's like a
- 15:21kind of a atrium atrium. So I only count this as him
- 15:27beginning the fight by exiting the hallway.
- 15:32So, yeah, yeah. I actually have a different
- 15:35moment because that was. Tell me.
- 15:38I just didn't know if it qualified because like the part
- 15:41that you're talking about, because it's like such a short
- 15:43sequence. He has to go.
- 15:44Which if you if which God, we could actually really get into
- 15:48this on our own if we wanted to go back and just talk about this
- 15:51fight as its own episode. It is such an A symbolic
- 15:57transitional corridor in Phantom Menace when he's fighting Maul,
- 16:02because he he comes from the large reactor room and has to go
- 16:06through the small narrow corridor where he gets trapped.
- 16:10And then he's released into this atrium space.
- 16:14And it's like a transitional period where once he's gone
- 16:17through that hallway, his life is never the same on the other
- 16:20side of it. It's literally the Jedi birthing
- 16:23canal. It is, it is, Sir.
- 16:27Jedi Knights come out into the world.
- 16:29That's it. They're born in this atrium.
- 16:34Defeating is true. I mean, if you want to talk
- 16:37about, you know, like how we talked about The Cave scene and
- 16:40Empire Strikes Back, hallways themselves are symbolic.
- 16:44That's what I mean. Yeah, that's.
- 16:46Why Luke comes through like the whole we could do a whole
- 16:50episode. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:52We could, let's just, we could save a series of hallways.
- 16:57Star Wars series of symbolic hallways MCK.
- 17:05Well the part that I do have is a very anti climactic point in
- 17:08my opinion. They fight in a hallway right at
- 17:10the beginning when just in Qui Gon fight their way out of the
- 17:15conference room. They're in the hallway fighting
- 17:17the little droids and. You're very right.
- 17:20That should not be discounted. You're right.
- 17:23But it's kind of meh in my opinion.
- 17:25I. Know, but it's still a halt way.
- 17:29You know why I think I have trouble with that scene is
- 17:31because when Phantom Menace first came out, and this is like
- 17:36the way it it started and I was like, this is not as good as
- 17:40what I was hoping. Yeah, it is.
- 17:42Kind of a very soft landing for like an opening.
- 17:46Well, an initial scene, if you will.
- 17:49Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:50And so it was. Yeah.
- 17:52I think it left a bad taste in my mouth forever.
- 17:57I've grown to love the the prequels now because of Clone
- 18:01Wars, but it was difficult to I'll say to begin.
- 18:05I know. I I yeah, I feel it.
- 18:08We've come a long way. We have.
- 18:11I think that's all I have for. Same.
- 18:14Yep. OK, Yep.
- 18:16So now Clone Wars. Oh boy.
- 18:20They're so there's so. Many.
- 18:23And we don't have them all. We.
- 18:25We do not that we. Cannot.
- 18:28We can't have them all. I don't know that anyone's
- 18:31actually sat through every episode and marked them all
- 18:34down, except for possibly Dave Filoni, but just out of just out
- 18:37of consequence. But.
- 18:39If someone wants to pay me to do it, I'll do it happily.
- 18:42Watch all of clone Wars. Every second of Clone Wars to
- 18:45just make an index of hallways. It's true, actually.
- 18:50The Rolodex of hallways. Oh, you want a hallway?
- 18:53We got one for you, you know. Tell me what you want I'll find,
- 18:57but I'll find a hallway for you. What do you look for, Big
- 19:00Lebowski? I can get you a hallway by 2:00
- 19:02PM today. Oh my God.
- 19:08I. Love that movie so much.
- 19:11Anyway, I have these in no order, so you can start, I can
- 19:17start, it doesn't matter to me. I have them in order.
- 19:20Oh good, let's go in order then. OK, My first one is a question
- 19:24mark and wasn't sure if you would call it qualifying in the
- 19:28Gungan General when they're prisoners at Hondos, they don't
- 19:34fight necessarily through the hallway, but they they creep
- 19:38through it tied together. I don't think it quite
- 19:42qualifies, but it's so there's no I wanted to at least mention
- 19:46it. It is worth mentioning at any
- 19:49they. Do knock someone out.
- 19:51They do, and and they open up the thing and they kind of
- 19:55weasel their way through and they use their other talents,
- 19:58we'll say, but there's no. Dueling.
- 20:00I'm not sure we'll just say no. How about on that?
- 20:03It's a questionable hallway. We love it.
- 20:05We love it and it deserves to be on here just because.
- 20:10The next I have is blue shadow virus.
- 20:13Not the blue shadow virus, the virus.
- 20:21The blue shadow virus. What is that?
- 20:25Actor's name. I just watched it yesterday, now
- 20:26I can't remember but it's. Great.
- 20:29Guy's such a goof, I love it. It's not a long scene but he
- 20:35literally crashes through a ceiling down into a hallway and
- 20:41rescues Ahsoka and it's like can I be of any?
- 20:43Surface. Oh my God I don't have this one
- 20:47and I love the blue shadow virus series like series of events.
- 20:52Again, it's like the whole episode takes place in our
- 20:55hallway corridor because they're underground.
- 20:57So like. Trying not to breathe and all
- 21:00this stuff. Yeah, I think it needs like, I
- 21:03think again, ones only in a hallway like half a second, but
- 21:07I it counts a beautiful looking second.
- 21:10He's gorgeous, so it's worth mentioning.
- 21:12Absolutely, Absolutely. It's on the list.
- 21:15I don't have these in order. So I'm just, I don't if I say 1,
- 21:19I don't know if it's going to break the order.
- 21:22Go ahead and say one, who cares what order it's in?
- 21:24Well, the first two I have are the two fights against Grievous.
- 21:29So Grievous intrigue, which we've talked about.
- 21:33In fact, I highlighted it in one of our Patreon extras as one of
- 21:37our favorite Obi Wan moments. That moment, especially in the
- 21:41umbilical between the two ships, has one of my favorite Obi Wan
- 21:45lightsaber poses. Ever.
- 21:47Yes, and I. Had Jake Bartok draw me a custom
- 21:51piece of art of it cuz I like it that much.
- 21:54That's correct. It's yes.
- 21:56It's the angle of it all, really.
- 21:58Yes, it's beautiful and he does this.
- 22:00Weird like and he's like got a backhand at his.
- 22:04He's doing the finger pointing, but he's all like twisted up in
- 22:06this weird shape. And I was like, I like that.
- 22:08I it's hot. Draw it.
- 22:15Jake Bartok. Cut.
- 22:20Get to it. I command.
- 22:25It's a good one. The whole scene is great because
- 22:28it's ridiculous. There's a lot of pomp and a lot
- 22:31of questioning Grievous, like he's going to give a shit.
- 22:34I don't know, I love the whole thing.
- 22:36I do too and then it's really fun.
- 22:39The second one I have, I can't remember.
- 22:42Is it an ARC troopers? The ARC Troopers episode.
- 22:45OK, yes, the fight against Grievous again.
- 22:48He's in a freaking hallway and Grievous crawls away.
- 22:51Spindly little spider that he is.
- 22:53He's always crawling away because his height exceeds the
- 22:56width and height of the hallway. But I love the Arc Troopers
- 23:01episode. This is the one I was telling
- 23:02you about how I it's kind of a sneaker episode.
- 23:05I was thinking when I was watching this yesterday, I was
- 23:08like, we need to do an episode about just this episode because
- 23:11it's so good and there's so many little moments that I have
- 23:14forgotten about in it, like the seabird.
- 23:17Yes, the seabird, but there's so many like Anakin's great in it.
- 23:21We have cloned business to talk about in this episode.
- 23:25The setting itself is cool. We got all kinds and stuff.
- 23:28We got all kinds of stuff to talk about.
- 23:30And there's a hallway. That's a great fight in the
- 23:32hallway too, because it's kind of a funny interaction with
- 23:36Grievous, whereas before in Grievous Intrigue they're more
- 23:40fighting real fighting with their lightsabers, and in this
- 23:43one, Grievous just instead goes right for everyone's face.
- 23:48Yes, yes, there's a lot of the face grabbing business that Obi
- 23:51Wan has to go through. It doesn't bother fighting, he
- 23:54just grabs him by the face, smashes him into the ceiling and
- 23:57the the floor and tries to stomp on him.
- 24:00We could do a whole episode on how many times and who has
- 24:03grabbed this man's face angrily, you know what I mean?
- 24:05Please, let's do it. OK, next time we need a light
- 24:09episode, we'll do the aggressive handling of Obi Wan's chin.
- 24:13We'll add it to the list. Yes, I love those two episodes.
- 24:19I love anything with Grievous because he's ridiculous.
- 24:22And again, we're we're getting to see Obi Wan in finest form
- 24:26dealing with this bumbling metal fool who is Grievous.
- 24:32What do you have next? I have legacy of terror.
- 24:36Oh, yeah. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 24:38That's a good one. Which?
- 24:40Is, I mean, once they go underground, it's basically, you
- 24:42know, most of the episode is bug zombies.
- 24:47And not only that, but it's dark and creepy and yeah, clones are
- 24:52getting snatched. It's great, like sci-fi horror.
- 24:56Yes, it reminded me a lot of some of the sequences in Alien,
- 24:59the way it's lit and the way. Yes.
- 25:01There's some jump scare type stuff.
- 25:03Yeah, I and again, as we've said, he's beautiful.
- 25:07He looks. In low, dim, bluish light, he
- 25:13excels. When does he not look beautiful?
- 25:17I mean, it's true. It's honest to, well, Baldy Wan.
- 25:23There's there's always that. Yeah, yeah, I will still take
- 25:28that over. No Obi Wan, but true, yeah.
- 25:31So I have to bring up the Citadel episode, one of my
- 25:34favorites. Which is also like just one long
- 25:37extended hallway. The whole, I mean, we could go
- 25:41through the arc itself. I think you could count.
- 25:45It's a little questionable, some of those rock tunnels and I
- 25:48think Anakin and Ahsoka are more fighting in those than say Obi
- 25:52Wan. But Obi Wan and the crew in the
- 25:55Citadel itself, they're magnetized, You know, that whole
- 25:59scene, one of our favorites. This is where he excels.
- 26:02This he's hot. He does the thing with the
- 26:05Force. He's true.
- 26:07Honestly, this is the Obi Wan in the hallway that I think of when
- 26:12I think of Obi Wan in a hallway. There's There was no better way
- 26:16to say. That strangest sentence we've
- 26:18ever said. There's no better way to say
- 26:21that. I don't think so.
- 26:23Someone needlepoint that on a pillow.
- 26:29Yes. Yeah, I know.
- 26:31He's the thing that I love about doing the research for this is
- 26:35watching how the animation gets better and better.
- 26:39And. They start to add intricacy in
- 26:42his facial expressions during all of these sequences, and this
- 26:47is one of the best ones because when he says they're magnetized,
- 26:50they do that weird like trombone zoom on him where he's his face
- 26:55is like all twisted up in a snarl and I love it so but.
- 26:59It's fantastic and Jaylen James James Arnold Taylor's like
- 27:05inflection is so spot on in that moment, you feel it's it's not
- 27:09even it doesn't even feel animated, animated.
- 27:12That's the thing with the. Show I know it feels real and
- 27:15that's I mean one of the many reasons why it's amazing.
- 27:18But I also I have to mention this and I forgot to mention it
- 27:21in the Kenobi series too. Oh.
- 27:23What Obi Wan has two die hard runs and one of them is in run.
- 27:30Oh, like run. Like John Mcclane, like where
- 27:35the bombs are going off and he's running, run the ball of fire.
- 27:40Well, that was the. He does that, yes.
- 27:43One of them is the water in the Kenobi series and 1 is in the
- 27:47Citadel. They lay a bunch of explosives
- 27:49and then Obi Wan sets them off and runs through them all like
- 27:52he's John Mcclane. So I love it.
- 27:55Living for it, I love it. I love it.
- 27:58Die hard with a vengeance, Kenobi.
- 28:01In a citadel Coming to a citadel near you.
- 28:07Instead of the tower that. They're on the.
- 28:10I forget the name of the business now.
- 28:12That and the goofy guy who runs, it's in there.
- 28:15Like, you know, that guy, what's his name?
- 28:19The guy who's just playing inside and trying to like this
- 28:23will get him press a button, you know, in the Citadel episode, we
- 28:27love his voice. OC Sopic yes, so James Arnold
- 28:32Taylor. I know it's.
- 28:34So good. Yeah, that good.
- 28:36I feel like this whole like the Citadel arc is just James.
- 28:39It's it's PO Coon, it's OC Sopic, it's Obi Wan and he gets
- 28:43to play all the characters. It's so good, it's.
- 28:46His time to shine. If you haven't heard it, go back
- 28:48and listen to our breakdown of the Citadel episodes.
- 28:51That was fun. I know we've done some really
- 28:55cool things on this show. There's so much weird symbolism
- 28:58in the color that I had never thought about.
- 29:00Yeah, you. Brought that to the table and
- 29:02that was amazing. That was really cool.
- 29:05I feel like I learned so much when we do this these shows.
- 29:09I love it. I only have one more for Clone
- 29:12Wars and then I have a a questionable 1.
- 29:15I have two more. OK.
- 29:16Are we going to talk about Florem?
- 29:18Yes. Hell yeah.
- 29:19That's my show. That's my favorite episode.
- 29:23Well, you can. Take it away.
- 29:25Second, second favorite, right? It's like the sequel to my
- 29:28favorite. You're talking about revival,
- 29:32right? Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, yes,
- 29:34yes. Savage and Maul versus Kenobi 2
- 29:37handed, taking on 2 foes in a hallway.
- 29:42Oh my God. Honestly I don't think he's ever
- 29:45been hotter until they came out with the Kenobi series ending.
- 29:51That is the closest competition to this.
- 29:53Because there's shit everyone does in this episode that you
- 29:56never see him do ever. It's crazy.
- 30:00And it goes back to your He doesn't crumble under pressure,
- 30:03he just adjusts. Yeah.
- 30:05It's truly inspiring. It's really cool and like, I'm
- 30:09sorry, this is super ruthless. If you watch it in slow motion,
- 30:15there is a scene that makes me it's like it's so fast you would
- 30:18never see it unless you take it frame by frame.
- 30:21And I got a screenshot of this by luck once.
- 30:26When Obi Wan cuts Savage's arm off and he just like the flip
- 30:30and he like lands, Savage's arm falls between Obi Wan's feet and
- 30:38it's just laying there like an open claw, like a Halloween
- 30:41hand. Savage.
- 30:44Savage. It's so funny.
- 30:46I. Mean.
- 30:47It's not funny, it's horrific. Well, Savage, listen, it was
- 30:51never meant to be with Savage, but.
- 30:53I know, I know. What a way to lose an arm to
- 30:56this man who's who's very skilled at severing limbs.
- 31:00And he doesn't. He just like immediately
- 31:02recovers and is like, doesn't blink, let's go.
- 31:05Yeah, yeah, back on my feet. What did I, you know, don't
- 31:08blink? So it's so good.
- 31:11Yeah, it's it's like top three hallway scenes.
- 31:14Yeah. Are we not ranking?
- 31:17Are we not ranking? These.
- 31:19No, I mean, again, like needle pointed on a pillow.
- 31:22It should be a sticker or something.
- 31:25I mean, it's what it's gonna be. Luke and Vader.
- 31:30Yeah. Are those two other two?
- 31:32Hallway the Luke The Luke Hallway scene in The
- 31:36Mandalorian. Yes.
- 31:39The Vader. Zader in row one, yeah.
- 31:44And then Kenobi Jarkai on Flora, right?
- 31:50Cold shower now. Yep, that's a late night for me
- 31:54in my brain, all three of them. We're not holding back at all in
- 32:01this episode, are we just. Laying it out of the episodes,
- 32:04if you made it to this this far in the episode, there's your
- 32:08present. Yeah, there's one more we
- 32:12haven't talked. About we Yeah.
- 32:13What is it? It's voyage of temptation.
- 32:16I know. OK, I was.
- 32:18Yeah, I have it. It's not under a questionable
- 32:21one, but I have it. I have it.
- 32:23Obviously, there is a bail going on.
- 32:24He's running up and down the hallway.
- 32:26He says, you know, she's not my girlfriend.
- 32:28But there is the moment in the hallway with Satine telling him
- 32:32that she loves him. And he is standing there kind of
- 32:35frozen and. Paralyzed.
- 32:36My question is, see, this is the problem I had.
- 32:40I'm like, do we include other people who who like technically
- 32:44seal the deal for Obi Wan, like Anakin who comes in and stabs
- 32:48the dude in the back, which we've talked about, not a kid
- 32:50show, but like, oh Anakin, you know, like.
- 32:55I like that that's the reaction he has to killing somebody.
- 32:58That's what you say to a child who like got icing on his face
- 33:02after eating the cake, not stabbing someone through the
- 33:06back and out the front. Have we talked about these
- 33:10episodes before the. Just in the kids show.
- 33:12I think we've never done the Obi Wan and Satine ones, but we
- 33:15probably should. I feel like if we at least do
- 33:18the ones from season 2 it would be very fun because this scene
- 33:22is so tricky. For him it's very tricky.
- 33:25He wants to save her, but if he does, he's then the thing she
- 33:30abhors the most. What?
- 33:32Does Obi want to do and he's in a hallway?
- 33:36And luckily, Anakin is there to like, you know.
- 33:38Defuse it, Yeah. Exactly.
- 33:40But it's such an interesting conundrum for him to be put
- 33:45into. It's a great scene.
- 33:47It's a really great episode. Yeah.
- 33:49But yeah, I mean, it's kind of an honorable mention because
- 33:52like you said, he doesn't actually do the fighting, but
- 33:54it's kind of an important moment where somebody actually says I
- 33:57love you to him and he does not. Say it back.
- 34:01He does not say it back. It doesn't say anything really,
- 34:04which is even worse. Left her hanging, left her on
- 34:07Red I. Know he says had you said the
- 34:10word, I would have left the Jedi order.
- 34:12So again, it's her fault that she didn't say anything.
- 34:15And then he, I, I'm just, yeah. Listen, we only said he was a
- 34:19master at defensive lightsaber techniques, not speaking to
- 34:25women. Old flames, I should say.
- 34:29Yes, yes, yeah. But still, I love that moment.
- 34:32And again, like James's performance is so fantastic.
- 34:36The subtleties of it all, Yep. Yeah, it's heartbreaking.
- 34:40Utterly heartbreaking. Well, this was delightful.
- 34:43I don't have any more. Do you have any more?
- 34:45I had a scene of him and Ventris on a precipice, balcony, walkway
- 34:53thing, a bridge. It was a cut scene from the
- 34:55Clone Wars that I found. It made me think about the fact
- 35:00that we often see him on like suspended walkways.
- 35:05I'm thinking like, not bridges per SE, but they could be
- 35:09connected walkways. There's also precipices where
- 35:14he's fought out to and then they escape and he's left on the
- 35:17precipice. Kind of like when Vader was in
- 35:18the hallway in Rogue One and he was left on the precipice
- 35:21because somebody, Leia and them got away.
- 35:23Yes, I can think of several of those off the top.
- 35:26Of my head, yeah, those don't count, but there's instances
- 35:29that I saw where he, like he battles CAD Bane.
- 35:33He's on rocks and a precipice. They roll down and fall down him
- 35:38and Quinlan and and CAD Bane and the whole thing.
- 35:40And he's always excelling on some questionable surface.
- 35:48And it goes back to you saying like, he doesn't ever bend under
- 35:53pressure. He just adjusts.
- 35:54And that goes for where he's located, no matter the element
- 35:58around him. How many times has he been on
- 36:00freaking Geonosis now with dust? And he's been down in the bottom
- 36:03in the trenches, down in down in the layer, OK, in darkness.
- 36:07And then he's in a hallway with water in the fortress in the
- 36:10Kenobi series. And yeah.
- 36:12I just and Lava and Revenge of the Sith.
- 36:16Yeah, he just. Erupting shit buildings falling
- 36:19apart, Tarkin harassing his ass coming out of the citadel.
- 36:22Like there are a number of obstacles this man has had to
- 36:27maneuver. Yeah.
- 36:30And he's handled them all fabulously.
- 36:32And we come right back to A New Hope, where he ended it all
- 36:36right, where he began it, there in a hallway.
- 36:39With Anna. And it makes me wonder if he, I
- 36:42mean, he was just buying time, right?
- 36:44Like he knew that was the moment he was going to die.
- 36:47Don't you Yank. But that's why he smiled.
- 36:50He wasn't that old. No, that's the thing, He wasn't.
- 36:54They were like he was 50s or 60s.
- 36:56Yeah, like not old enough to just die of elderliness.
- 37:02Well I mean PAD made it inside die of sadness and Obi Wan
- 37:08didn't die of elderliness as you said, but he died the way he
- 37:15wanted to, knowing that those two kids, grown as they were,
- 37:21were safe. So true.
- 37:25No matter what hallway he's been in, it's never about the
- 37:29hallway. It's about moving through it.
- 37:31It was the journey, not the destination.
- 37:34Oh my God, you just blew my brain open.
- 37:37Yeah, it's true even in that a new.
- 37:39Hope he's. Transitioning into a new state
- 37:42and he's doing it through a hallway.
- 37:45Threw an umbilical into the force.
- 37:49Truly, truly the best Jedi question mark.
- 37:56On this show, yes. On.
- 37:57This show? Hell yeah.
- 37:59Well, him and Luke, but the end. Yeah.
- 38:09OK. Our next episode, join us back
- 38:11here. We're going to take the Sith
- 38:13code and we're going to try and see it for any truths that might
- 38:18actually be buried in there. And then we're going to the next
- 38:21episode. We're going to talk about the
- 38:23Jedi code and try to poke holes in it and see where there's
- 38:26falsities in there. I don't know if I'm even
- 38:28describing this correctly, but we're going to start with the
- 38:31Sith code on the next episode and see if they were actually
- 38:34right about something, anything. Try and find some merit to it.
- 38:39Yes. And then the Jedi, while we know
- 38:42it starts with merit, we're going to try and see if there's
- 38:46not. That will be the follow.
- 38:48Up. It's so interesting.
- 38:49We're going to have to like, look at the Jedi code as though
- 38:52we were Sith, yes, and see it full of lies.
- 38:56Yes, yes, I see through the lies of the Jedi.
- 39:02I'm excited to try this. This is a totally different
- 39:04approach than a long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away.
- 39:10One of our first episodes was What makes a good Jedi and What
- 39:13Makes a good Sith? And we'll be applying those
- 39:16things. To see, yeah.
- 39:18How far we get with this? This is a little test, this a
- 39:20little, there's a little experiment.
- 39:22We'll see how far we get. So join us back here.
- 39:25We're starting with the Sith and then the follow up episode will
- 39:28be the Jedi Code, so you don't want to miss it.
