- 0:43Speaker 1: To Patriots Unfiltered. This is a very special edition of
- 0:48Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered because we are live from twenty twenty three
- 0:52Speaker 1: training camp high above the practice fields at Jillette Stadium,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and uh, I'm joined by Paul Parrillo, Mike dus, Evan
- 1:00Speaker 1: Lazarre later Tamara Brown, and we're going to be giving
- 1:03Speaker 1: you the entire practice from our vantage point. We'll be
- 1:07Speaker 1: on video until around ten twenty or so, and then
- 1:10Speaker 1: we'll have to go to audio per team rules, but
- 1:14Speaker 1: we'll give you what we see. I see Robert Kraft
- 1:17Speaker 1: walking onto the field right now. The stands are full,
- 1:23Speaker 1: the hill is full. It's a good crowd. For a Wednesday,
- 1:27Speaker 1: first day of training camp, and I think we're excited,
- 1:29Speaker 1: fans are excited, and it's great weather. I mean you
- 1:34Speaker 1: could it's idyllic.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is how you picture it, right.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Yeah, And you had people tweeting last night Jalen Mills
- 1:42Speaker 4: how excited he was, couldn't sleep getting ready to get
- 1:45Speaker 4: out here. So yeah, I think it is a perfect day.
- 1:48Speaker 4: You're right about the crowd, good strong crowd. Looks like
- 1:51Speaker 4: there's a lot of enthusiasm out there, and you couldn't
- 1:54Speaker 4: ask for a better day to get started with.
- 1:55Speaker 2: The weather well now, and there were some Patriots unfiltered
- 1:59Speaker 2: fans down there and gave some T shirts away, people
- 2:01Speaker 2: yelling out to deuce, so h thank you to them
- 2:04Speaker 2: for coming down for that. So definitely a hype crowd.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of out there warming them up.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I think, I guess, yeah, providing some insight as you know,
- 2:13Speaker 2: a couple of things. Trent Brown is here as we're
- 2:15Speaker 2: taking a sentence early in camp.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Christian Gonzales arriving for his first official practice, uh in
- 2:24Speaker 1: training camp. So we're all excited to see the first
- 2:27Speaker 1: round rookie draft pick for the Patriots. Cornerback.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Get a look right there at one of the newer
- 2:32Speaker 4: Patriots just signed Jalen Hurd. Yeah, a wide receiver looking
- 2:36Speaker 4: to you know, come in late, see if you can
- 2:38Speaker 4: catch up and create some depth.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I think they needed some death Paul, and that's you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: some we talked about. We all, you know, we know
- 2:43Speaker 2: about DeAndre Hopkins and that whole situation. But but they
- 2:46Speaker 2: needed some some additional guys for just for training camp.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So I think it's an interesting addition. Poor guy, you know,
- 2:52Speaker 2: has had a lot of injuries, hasn't been able to
- 2:54Speaker 2: you know, stay healthy, but but had a lot of
- 2:56Speaker 2: the intangibles and the and the I guess you called
- 2:58Speaker 2: the tangibles the size and uh and the strength that
- 3:01Speaker 2: that you look for so measurable measurables. And there's Juju
- 3:04Speaker 2: Smith Schuster I'm seeing. Yeah, that's the first time we've
- 3:07Speaker 2: seen Juju. He's skipping. He's skipping as if he's off
- 3:10Speaker 2: to see the Wizard. It's uh yeah, a little uh.
- 3:15Speaker 5: But so far.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Marte Mapu in a red jersey something, just to point
- 3:18Speaker 2: out he did go uh what it was undergo so
- 3:21Speaker 2: shoulder surgery, pack surgery. So we're waiting for him eventually
- 3:26Speaker 2: hopefully to get out of that red jersey. And I
- 3:27Speaker 2: mean talk about a guy Evan that was all over
- 3:30Speaker 2: the place in Mini King if you don't want to
- 3:31Speaker 2: read too much into it, but he looks like somebody
- 3:34Speaker 2: who can play a little linebacker, a little safety. We've
- 3:36Speaker 2: seen those kind of guys before, but I think he's
- 3:37Speaker 2: a little bit different maybe.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Yeah, excited on the screen right now. Yeah, his roles
- 3:44Speaker 5: is exciting. And it's good that he's not on the
- 3:47Speaker 5: pup list. I was a little worried that he would
- 3:51Speaker 5: start on the pup pulist, but uh, he's out there
- 3:55Speaker 5: red no non con contact.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Looks like nineteen Trace McSorley also in a read no
- 4:00Speaker 2: contact jeers he here as we try to rifle through
- 4:03Speaker 2: all of our tendency rights. Hey, it's training camp for
- 4:07Speaker 2: us to Paul where we're getting back into a get
- 4:09Speaker 2: back into the flow here.
- 4:12Speaker 1: David Andrews and James Farentz some of the other linemen
- 4:17Speaker 1: coming up now.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So it seems like it'll be I want to drone
- 4:21Speaker 2: is flying by, so somebody's got some good footage here,
- 4:25Speaker 2: ramondre Stevenson, And I mean, so far, it seems like
- 4:29Speaker 2: you know, most of the big pieces are here. I
- 4:31Speaker 2: would say one little bit of I'd say an interesting
- 4:34Speaker 2: nugget was number seventy six Calvin Anderson report yesterday that
- 4:38Speaker 2: he's going to start on the non football illness list.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I guess if I'm if I'm saying that correctly. So
- 4:45Speaker 2: he was at left tackle pretty much throughout OTA's and
- 4:48Speaker 2: mini camps. So it's, uh, it puts a little bit
- 4:51Speaker 2: of a question, not that they're going to get live
- 4:52Speaker 2: or anything like that with eleven on Eleven's, but you know,
- 4:55Speaker 2: with Trent Brown during OTA is kind of working his
- 4:57Speaker 2: way back into shape. I just I wonder who's going
- 4:59Speaker 2: to be at left tackle here as we as we
- 5:01Speaker 2: kind of get started. Is is Trump Brown going to
- 5:03Speaker 2: be back out there with Calvin Anderson on the shelf? Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I would expect to see Trent Brown.
- 5:08Speaker 4: You know, at this point, he's he's already one of
- 5:11Speaker 4: the you know, one of the players that's made his
- 5:12Speaker 4: way out there.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I know that we talked a little bit.
- 5:15Speaker 4: About the on the show yesterday about you know, his
- 5:17Speaker 4: social media stuff and what he's trying to do.
- 5:19Speaker 2: My question with him is always about.
- 5:21Speaker 4: His engagement, his level of commitment, and if he's if
- 5:24Speaker 4: he's ready to play. But I don't think there's much
- 5:27Speaker 4: question that he's the most talented tackle they have on
- 5:29Speaker 4: the roster. So I think you got to let him
- 5:31Speaker 4: do something to lose that before you you take it away.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Need him absolutely too.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I mean, just Robert Kraft walking with David Andrews right now,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I wonder what they're talking about.
- 5:43Speaker 2: It's a good question, Fred.
- 5:44Speaker 6: Yeah, see if we can get our MIC's down.
- 5:47Speaker 2: At chasing Hines Trey Nixon. You know it's a Trey
- 5:55Speaker 2: Nixon go ahead of him.
- 5:56Speaker 5: No, no, not to go go super deep on the aster,
- 6:00Speaker 5: but chasing Hines. And Andrews are stupor didn't really see anything.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Now all last year Stuber wasn't. I mean, I thought
- 6:08Speaker 2: it was surprised just to see Stuber at left tackle
- 6:10Speaker 2: during OTAs, where it felt like he'd only played really
- 6:15Speaker 2: right tackle. I believe it at Michigan. So it's just
- 6:17Speaker 2: it kind of illustrates how thin things are at the
- 6:20Speaker 2: along the offensive line right now for these guys. We've
- 6:26Speaker 2: got another big name coming out right now, which is
- 6:28Speaker 2: Mike Kisiki. You're seeing him there, and yeah, I mean
- 6:30Speaker 2: talk about somebody who probably was the most active offensive piece,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know in OTAs, I mean, just had a lot
- 6:36Speaker 2: of catches. Seems like he's gonna be a prominent part
- 6:39Speaker 2: of this offense, you know, kind of hopefully upgrading that
- 6:43Speaker 2: spot that they have with John new Smith the last
- 6:44Speaker 2: couple of years ago, you know, of the seat of
- 6:46Speaker 2: you know, twenty one twenty two, they never really got
- 6:48Speaker 2: the production out of him. Hoping that Kasiki can you know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: be part of a resurgent there with that second tight
- 6:54Speaker 2: end spot.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see what he looks
- 6:57Speaker 5: like with the pads come on. But he's smooth, yeah,
- 7:00Speaker 5: I mean he can really run right outs and he's
- 7:04Speaker 5: explosive up this scene. So I'm excited. But about good sick.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I like eighty eight two. It looks good. In eighty
- 7:10Speaker 2: eight it's good.
- 7:12Speaker 5: That's good.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It's a good number. I like that one, Paul.
- 7:14Speaker 4: You're infatuation with what they're wearing, you know, number ever
- 7:16Speaker 4: seas to it, man, Yeah, I like fashion.
- 7:18Speaker 2: What are you gonna do? Football? Fashion? That's me? You
- 7:20Speaker 2: are very stylish. Well see what they get into today,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you think, Paul, what what do they always tend to do?
- 7:28Speaker 2: We always start off camp what is that area.
- 7:30Speaker 6: I guess you're gonna see some red zone.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Red zone Robert Kraft talking a long time video director,
- 7:35Speaker 1: Jimmy d who's run the video for the team for
- 7:39Speaker 1: as long as I can remember, probably thirty years now.
- 7:45Speaker 2: It's who else we got out here? Yeah, it's a
- 7:49Speaker 2: good crowd. It seems like we got the Usually the
- 7:51Speaker 2: way I can tell is by how how much the
- 7:54Speaker 2: line is up here on the second level of the
- 7:56Speaker 2: parking lot, and it's it's getting pretty full down there already,
- 7:59Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's warm, but it's not stifling hot yet,
- 8:05Speaker 4: and I think that's what we're supposed to get at
- 8:07Speaker 4: the end of this the end of this week, I
- 8:09Speaker 4: think there a heat wave is on tap. So today
- 8:12Speaker 4: might be a good day. The first day is always
- 8:14Speaker 4: some of the excitement. We'll see how it goes as
- 8:16Speaker 4: it goes on. When they continue these workouts before they
- 8:19Speaker 4: get in pads, some of those get to be a
- 8:21Speaker 4: little bit groundhog Dayish got.
- 8:24Speaker 2: To knock the rust off, Paul. It's can't just jump
- 8:26Speaker 2: right into hitting. Somebody might might get hurt. Thirty three
- 8:31Speaker 2: thirty three, No, that's the new Anthony.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Jennings new Anthony Jennings and thirty.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Some number changes this year, which Paul will go into
- 8:39Speaker 2: in detail, of course, but I can lay them out.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Bil Pepper's going back to his college.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Yeah, well that's Anthony Jennings college number two.
- 8:46Speaker 4: So if you'd like me to tell say and Anthony
- 8:48Speaker 4: Jennings switch to thirty three.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Thanks, Paul, You're welcome.
- 8:54Speaker 5: But now Lauren skuy sighting yet we're still right matriculating
- 8:59Speaker 5: onto the field year but we haven't seen and.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Ninety two is sneaking up the backside, but no ninety three.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Brent likes to tell you what what the the the
- 9:10Speaker 4: big boss man is talking about and talking to, Well,
- 9:13Speaker 4: he's right now talking to Trent Brown Robert Kraft. So
- 9:17Speaker 4: you know, we kind of speculated that maybe Trent isn't
- 9:21Speaker 4: thrilled with being paid right tackle money playing left tackle,
- 9:24Speaker 4: maybe saying hey, hey, boss Man about a little something
- 9:28Speaker 4: for the effort.
- 9:29Speaker 2: This isn't really the time for that, Trent. We're about
- 9:31Speaker 2: to kind of it was. It was a brief conversation,
- 9:34Speaker 2: long to put in the.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Effort to get the bonus.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Did you see how much I was sweating on that
- 9:40Speaker 2: Instagram shot whoa, whoa, Wow, I didn't like I don't
- 9:43Speaker 2: know what that was, but I didn't like that. No,
- 9:46Speaker 2: I don't like it at all.
- 9:47Speaker 1: We're gonna need you this year.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Where is everybody taking him into? Edgibill Pepper's making his
- 9:52Speaker 2: way out as well here and yeah, well this is uh,
- 9:56Speaker 2: I mean, it seems like a pretty light list overall
- 9:59Speaker 2: for the the pup list, kind of a surprise always
- 10:01Speaker 2: right before camp starts. All right, who's not gonna be
- 10:03Speaker 2: able to go? But uh, you know Anderson being being sick. Uh,
- 10:07Speaker 2: that's that's really the only big one.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Well not to obviously, when, of course, I think it's
- 10:13Speaker 5: a it's a good thing that team's healthy guys are
- 10:17Speaker 5: out here. Even Juju we didn't see in the spring
- 10:20Speaker 5: much of now he's back out there and healthy and
- 10:22Speaker 5: is ready to go to I haven't seen I was
- 10:27Speaker 5: expecting to see that.
- 10:28Speaker 6: I haven't seen Parker either, did there's still.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Some guys coming. No, no Parker yet.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Maybe he ran out so fast we didn't see him
- 10:35Speaker 2: because he's.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Yeah, also interesting. I don't know, look too much into it, right,
- 10:39Speaker 5: I think he's putting it on as I'm Christian Zalez
- 10:42Speaker 5: wasn't wearing a practice jersey when he came on, but
- 10:44Speaker 5: I think he's literally putting it on as we speak.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Okay, good to know.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Got some vets coming out now with Jonathan Jones, Adrian
- 10:52Speaker 2: Phillips up and there he is. Lawrence Guy is not
- 10:55Speaker 2: holding in Larry Guy.
- 10:59Speaker 1: So I'm wonder if something happened they that hasn't been announced.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yet, a little something. And of course josh U and
- 11:06Speaker 2: not a lot of eyes on him this year built
- 11:08Speaker 2: on what he did last year.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Of course, Matthew Slater making his way out for his
- 11:13Speaker 4: one hundred and eleventh consecutive camp opener.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Yeah, did de Marcus Mitchell come off?
- 11:17Speaker 2: Or I guess he did because there he is. So
- 11:20Speaker 2: that was a brief stay. DeMarcus Mitchell also was which
- 11:23Speaker 2: one was that? What's list was he on?
- 11:25Speaker 5: I I think he was also on one of the
- 11:28Speaker 5: NFL briefly.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I mean this DeMarcus Mitchell, he was on p U
- 11:32Speaker 2: p N. I believe he was n FI. But he's
- 11:36Speaker 2: out the house. I guess he's out. So there's Taekwon
- 11:38Speaker 2: Thornton that's is.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Out there talking with Max Jones right now, so.
- 11:47Speaker 2: It's making the rounds. Yeah, shout out to the Patriots
- 11:51Speaker 2: content team down there shooting videos and getting TikTok's suck up.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I'm still I'm still waiting for Taikwan. I still want
- 12:01Speaker 5: to see Taekwon as much as as possible.
- 12:03Speaker 2: But we saw them on the field, right, We got
- 12:05Speaker 2: them one, get.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Him the ball.
- 12:07Speaker 2: There's Parker and Born, so a lot on those guys.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Yeah, so we're just waiting for all of those receivers.
- 12:15Speaker 4: And that was one thing that I was sort of
- 12:17Speaker 4: attendance wise, because you know, we talk a lot about
- 12:19Speaker 4: when Gasiki came out, Mike, you talked about how active
- 12:22Speaker 4: he was, and I do think he'll be active, and
- 12:24Speaker 4: I do think they'll use some of the two tight
- 12:25Speaker 4: end sets. But I wonder how much of that we
- 12:28Speaker 4: saw in the spring with by necessity, he really didn't
- 12:30Speaker 4: have a lot of options.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So it's nice to.
- 12:32Speaker 4: See Juju and Parker and Forton Born. Those are the
- 12:36Speaker 4: top four guys theoretically on the roster. They're all out
- 12:39Speaker 4: here ready to go Day one.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Good sign. Well, and as we talked to I mean,
- 12:42Speaker 2: you know, just to catch people up, we use I
- 12:44Speaker 2: mean that they are the top four. I mean after them,
- 12:46Speaker 2: there's there's an NFL catch to be had. So you know,
- 12:49Speaker 2: as much as you need to rely on those top
- 12:51Speaker 2: four guys, I also really want to see one of
- 12:53Speaker 2: these bottom seven guys you mentioned Jalen Heard they just
- 12:55Speaker 2: signed him yesterday. I think there's an opportunity there. You
- 12:57Speaker 2: never really replaced Nelson I the lower spot on the roster.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Not to say that it's always a one for one,
- 13:03Speaker 2: but you know, you do have a little bit of
- 13:05Speaker 2: room there in that room if if one of those
- 13:07Speaker 2: guys pops. I don't think we really saw much Evan,
- 13:09Speaker 2: you know, out of the rookies that we were kind
- 13:11Speaker 2: of hoping maybe to pop, ed Lee surprisingly from u
- 13:14Speaker 2: R I local kid might have been, Probably he might.
- 13:17Speaker 5: I thought they did the most Cunningham honestly, out.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Of that secondary group of receivers. I would have said
- 13:23Speaker 4: ed Lee was the most noticeable in the spring.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Uh huh. We'll see how that translates later on.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I'm not usually a guy that is Taekwon's eleven.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, he's out there, he's out there. Yeah, yeah, I
- 13:34Speaker 1: told you guys said.
- 13:34Speaker 2: He wasn't want to first, okay, but then he came
- 13:40Speaker 2: all right, good.
- 13:41Speaker 5: Lake Cunningham is interesting to me as well. Like I
- 13:43Speaker 5: I I downplayed it when they made the signing, But
- 13:48Speaker 5: would you hate like a wildcat package with him? I
- 13:52Speaker 5: mean he's not playing.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I mean only if Mac is kind of middling and
- 13:55Speaker 2: you need a you need a boost.
- 13:57Speaker 4: But that that's that's why it would indicate that to me.
- 13:59Speaker 4: I I suppose I'm going and need something.
- 14:01Speaker 5: I suppose I just think in shortyarded running situations and
- 14:05Speaker 5: things like, it's such an advantage.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'm with you, Evan, I'm I'm I'm all for practicing it,
- 14:11Speaker 1: having it ready, and then if you see something advantageous
- 14:14Speaker 1: out there that hey, this is gonna work against what
- 14:17Speaker 1: they're showing us on defense, be ready with it. I'm
- 14:21Speaker 1: all for it. Me too, I'm all for it.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Has anybody seen Matthew Judon?
- 14:25Speaker 4: No, I was just about to ask you guys that
- 14:27Speaker 4: I have not circled Matthew Judon. I have a handful
- 14:30Speaker 4: of guys that I haven't seen that I assume I
- 14:32Speaker 4: just missed.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, But I did not have Judon circles.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Right now, they're in the stretching condition. Was yes, he's here,
- 14:41Speaker 1: we're in the stretching portion of practice.
- 14:44Speaker 4: How about thirty nine one?
- 14:48Speaker 5: Yes?
- 14:49Speaker 2: I got yes, yes, those guys. Then I'm down to
- 14:54Speaker 2: sixty six. Hello sixty six Jordan Highlight.
- 15:02Speaker 5: I did not. I haven't who I have who.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I have listed as one of my camp sleepers.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Yeah, based on the amount of time he's spent with
- 15:09Speaker 4: Matthew Slater, you know, doing that special teams thing for sure. Uh,
- 15:15Speaker 4: but not a good sign if he's not out here
- 15:16Speaker 4: on Jay one.
- 15:18Speaker 2: No, how about your boy?
- 15:21Speaker 5: Yes, I saw him soclec Yeah, eighty seven all right, then.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Nine right, yeah, yes, nine and ninety five I think
- 15:31Speaker 4: are two guys that are sort of hanging and hanging
- 15:34Speaker 4: right now. So he's so good, solid attendance, ready for
- 15:37Speaker 4: the for the opener, as as Evan said, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 4: good to.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Start off healthy, very encouraging.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Some teams don't let and I think I see yes,
- 15:45Speaker 2: I see red, I see red red.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Now I see.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Red and that is Matthew Judon. So that's that's good.
- 15:50Speaker 2: That would do. That would have gotten the old radar
- 15:52Speaker 2: up a little bit. So obviously know Michael and one
- 15:55Speaker 2: you he remains on PUP. I didn't see him at
- 15:58Speaker 2: all this spring. Now Cody Davis holding right, same thing.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Justice Divide did come off, so we've seen him, so
- 16:04Speaker 2: just really I think those two on when you Davis?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Uh?
- 16:08Speaker 2: And then of course as I talked about Calvin Anderson,
- 16:10Speaker 2: I think of a three. How about Germany out there?
- 16:15Speaker 5: Yes, did we see uh Nick Folk six? Because I
- 16:20Speaker 5: saw the other specialist, I did see ye six, So
- 16:23Speaker 5: I have as we're doing a little bit behind the scenes.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Interesting, it's important to know who's practice has not started.
- 16:33Speaker 5: No, Cody Davis, when you know Calvin Anderson. Those are
- 16:37Speaker 5: the three guys I'm missing.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Okay, So anything new that you can see as you
- 16:41Speaker 1: look around the grounds, anything added to the you know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I see this, Uh did they always have this corner
- 16:49Speaker 1: uh clock in the far corner of the.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, they've had they've had that for they had at
- 16:55Speaker 2: It's definitely him in the spring.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Okay, don't ask me about last summer because I
- 16:59Speaker 4: would have told you.
- 16:59Speaker 2: We didn't even do shows.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Okay, but yeah, I was here in the spring, and
- 17:04Speaker 4: I think it is relatively new.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Freddie think, yeah, you are correct.
- 17:08Speaker 1: You know. One of the things that they started, I
- 17:10Speaker 1: think it was I don't know if it was just
- 17:13Speaker 1: spring or maybe last year, but no longer. Do we
- 17:15Speaker 1: have the video guys up on these cranes. Oh yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 1: like they did in the past. That's all remotely done.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Now inside the building they have the cameras, but you
- 17:25Speaker 1: wouldn't even know it. The cameras that are up there
- 17:28Speaker 1: filming practice from different angles, but it's all controlled remotely,
- 17:33Speaker 1: so you don't see these guys on these cranes that
- 17:35Speaker 1: are like waving in the wind anymore. I don't know
- 17:38Speaker 1: how they did it.
- 17:39Speaker 2: It's a scary job there. Yeah, well technology, yep, help
- 17:43Speaker 2: and everything go figure.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So that's that's something new in the last couple of years.
- 17:50Speaker 2: So now we've reached the point where we're here, Like
- 17:52Speaker 2: now I'm like, okay, it started. Can we ask can
- 17:54Speaker 2: we see some football?
- 17:55Speaker 1: Like that?
- 17:56Speaker 2: You get itchy, like you get to this first step
- 17:58Speaker 2: of getting the camp and then you immediately to take
- 18:00Speaker 2: that next step and start to see some competitive drills.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But we'll probably have to weep.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Well, we'll have to wait. But we're gonna be here today,
- 18:07Speaker 1: We're gonna be here now, We're gonna be here Friday,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and then we're gonna be back live on Monday, which
- 18:13Speaker 1: we assume will be the one of the first days
- 18:17Speaker 1: of pads, if not the first day of pads uh
- 18:20Speaker 1: so today, Thursday, Friday and Sunday Live. You're not gonna
- 18:25Speaker 1: miss a thing if you hang on with us on
- 18:27Speaker 1: Patriots dot com and and on YouTube, you know, we'll
- 18:32Speaker 1: bring you everything we see. And then afterwards Paul will
- 18:34Speaker 1: do his blobservations, and evand and Mike will have their updates.
- 18:38Speaker 1: We'll have photos from camp, We'll have videos from camp.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Just stay with Patriots dot Com and Patriots social accounts
- 18:45Speaker 1: and you cannot go wrong. You will have everything we have.
- 18:49Speaker 1: You will be the most knowledgeable Patriots fan there is.
- 18:53Speaker 2: You totally caught me off guard with that. As you transition,
- 18:56Speaker 2: you said, and then Paul will have I thought for
- 18:59Speaker 2: sure something like snarky was coming.
- 19:03Speaker 1: With Bill Belichick.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Actually, we're gonna go and do his shows on his stage.
- 19:07Speaker 1: We're gonna have a nightly sixty minute variety show with
- 19:10Speaker 1: paulas the post.
- 19:11Speaker 2: That's what I was waiting for, something like that.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Carol Lawrence and Carol Burnette will be his guests his
- 19:15Speaker 1: first week. Vicky Lawrence, Oh, Vicky Lawrence. Is there a
- 19:19Speaker 1: Carol Lawrence?
- 19:20Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I'm sure somewhere Jennifer Lawrence.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Is there a Jennifer there is there is a Ja,
- 19:26Speaker 4: there is a there's a Johnny Lawrence too, and that's
- 19:28Speaker 4: that's a that's a scary one.
- 19:30Speaker 2: So do we ever find sixty six in blue? Let
- 19:33Speaker 2: me check for you call, I should say to mac
- 19:37Speaker 2: Jones and mac grow gonna speak out their practice, so that'll.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Be yeah, we'll have that live. I assume mac rowe
- 19:44Speaker 1: will be asked a lot of questions you know on
- 19:47Speaker 1: the d hop uh interest in Jack Jones and you know,
- 19:51Speaker 1: personnel type of questions, So that might be an interesting
- 19:54Speaker 1: press conference. Don't know what he's gonna answer, but that'll
- 19:59Speaker 1: be mussy.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I got you, Paul sixty six, okay.
- 20:02Speaker 1: And then of course mac Jones will be live.
- 20:05Speaker 5: I'm not sure if I'll be the one to ask
- 20:07Speaker 5: Macro the question, but did you want to low ball
- 20:10Speaker 5: DeAndre Hopkins or is that just you boss?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Please don't be that person that question that will not
- 20:17Speaker 1: be you.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah, well it is what it is, right, it's the team.
- 20:23Speaker 5: I just really do wonder though, like does he like
- 20:25Speaker 5: what is his philosophy? Right, like, what is his opinion
- 20:29Speaker 5: on on all opinion?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you know whatever.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I think one of the questions that a lot of
- 20:35Speaker 1: people would want to know is how much does ownership
- 20:38Speaker 1: get involved in a situation like that or are you
- 20:42Speaker 1: are you left to your own devices? Is it up
- 20:44Speaker 1: to you guys?
- 20:45Speaker 5: You know, because it but also is it Bill or
- 20:49Speaker 5: is it right?
- 20:49Speaker 2: You know, I'm going to speculate here that I mean,
- 20:52Speaker 2: based on how my experience things have worked, that if
- 20:55Speaker 2: you really want a guy, then you go to the
- 20:57Speaker 2: man with the money and you say, we really want
- 20:59Speaker 2: this guy, we want to extend, and you know, then
- 21:02Speaker 2: the owner it can most probably say if you really
- 21:04Speaker 2: want them, you got them. I'm going to guess that
- 21:06Speaker 2: they didn't want them that bad, They didn't want them
- 21:09Speaker 2: enough to go to the owner and say, you know,
- 21:11Speaker 2: we need to up this off for a little bit.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I think I think based on what he said, you
- 21:16Speaker 2: know what you kind of heard afterwards of what the Patriots,
- 21:19Speaker 2: I mean, Mike Greese reported this that they were a
- 21:21Speaker 2: little worried if he wasn't. You know, of course a
- 21:23Speaker 2: lot of their contracts are incentive later, but he's not
- 21:25Speaker 2: on track to meet those incentives. I think that there
- 21:28Speaker 2: was worries about are we going to lose the player?
- 21:31Speaker 2: Is the player going to be like unhappy and be
- 21:32Speaker 2: it disruption and then you know a whole problem. So
- 21:35Speaker 2: you know, right or wrong for you know, whatever you believe, Like,
- 21:37Speaker 2: I think that that is what they're getting out there,
- 21:39Speaker 2: of what their hesitation was to, you know, maybe try
- 21:42Speaker 2: to pony up with that extra money.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Not to lead off on a negative note, because it
- 21:46Speaker 5: is a day when a training camp, we should be excited,
- 21:48Speaker 5: but the incentives in the contract you make in that
- 21:52Speaker 5: bed yourself, like if you are worried about him being
- 21:55Speaker 5: unhappy with the fact that he's not on pace with
- 21:57Speaker 5: his incentives, and don't tie up all of his money
- 21:59Speaker 5: and incentive.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Right, And that was my right. I really think, you know,
- 22:03Speaker 1: we talked about it before, the whole pecking order, the
- 22:06Speaker 1: economics of what each player is making in the locker room,
- 22:10Speaker 1: what effect that has when you bring in a guy
- 22:13Speaker 1: like Hopkins, you've already signed Schuster to a number, You've
- 22:17Speaker 1: got you know, Parker at a number other players in
- 22:20Speaker 1: the locker room, what they're making. I think that's important
- 22:23Speaker 1: to Bill. I think he's aware of it. I think,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you know, uh, in his mind, he knows what each
- 22:30Speaker 1: player should be making on that pecking order. And I
- 22:32Speaker 1: think they didn't want to disrupt that. I think that
- 22:35Speaker 1: was a big part of it. So like you could
- 22:37Speaker 1: justify it with incentives, but to just hand the guy guaranteed,
- 22:42Speaker 1: you know, money, that's like fifteen sixteen. They weren't going
- 22:45Speaker 1: to do it.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah, well it's I mean, it's it's funny how it
- 22:48Speaker 2: works out because in a few weeks we'll be down
- 22:50Speaker 2: in Tennessee and we'll get to see them. Yeah, Howkins
- 22:53Speaker 2: up close?
- 22:53Speaker 1: What that reality?
- 22:54Speaker 2: Like?
- 22:54Speaker 1: You know, are the is there hugs between him and Bill?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Like what is that?
- 22:58Speaker 7: Like?
- 22:58Speaker 5: Yes, you know?
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Or is you know, is Hopkins motivated to put on
- 23:03Speaker 2: a show at practice and you know, say, hey, this
- 23:05Speaker 2: is what you missed out on? Or is he not
- 23:07Speaker 2: even dressed? Who knows? You know, it's going to feed
- 23:09Speaker 2: the narratives one way or another, depending on.
- 23:11Speaker 4: I just feel like he could have helped the Patriots,
- 23:14Speaker 4: and I think he could have stepped in and been
- 23:15Speaker 4: the number one receiver. What he does in Tennessee really
- 23:18Speaker 4: is very of very little interest to me. He could
- 23:21Speaker 4: go there and blow up and be great, or he
- 23:23Speaker 4: could get hurt day one a training camp and not
- 23:25Speaker 4: play all year. To me, it doesn't change the narrative.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Like I think he could have helped the Patriots.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Have been their number one. Receive him, right, and we'll
- 23:33Speaker 2: never know.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Paul is positioning himself. So when people when he doesn't
- 23:37Speaker 1: have a good season, people say, see, it's a good
- 23:39Speaker 1: thing that inside him.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Right, Oh, no, that could happen. He could, he doesn't.
- 23:44Speaker 4: If he has a bad season, everybody's gonna say that.
- 23:47Speaker 4: But I don't know what would have happened if you
- 23:49Speaker 4: signed here.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Right right? No, I agree, I wanted to sign him.
- 23:52Speaker 4: I mean we got going on here, a bit of
- 23:54Speaker 4: a contact between some of the offensive and defensive player
- 23:57Speaker 4: as well.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Others, look like the some of the bigger guys, right.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's like Moses care is leading it. Who is
- 24:05Speaker 1: the head of strength and conditioning?
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is a little different. Haven't seen this
- 24:09Speaker 2: look much?
- 24:10Speaker 5: This might be Remember in the spring, they were doing
- 24:12Speaker 5: those whatever calisthenics or whatever you want to call them.
- 24:17Speaker 5: I wonder if this is a way the big guys
- 24:20Speaker 5: are on their own thing. But this is all skill players, quarterbacks,
- 24:25Speaker 5: Yeah type of thing.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:27Speaker 6: That was Moses in the middle, right, yeah.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Moses in the middle, the middle, knock in the middle.
- 24:33Speaker 1: What do you think of practice?
- 24:34Speaker 4: Now?
- 24:35Speaker 2: Moses then part of the huddle and.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Right too, right.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Jack Jones just out there participating like.
- 24:46Speaker 2: The nothing get used to it. Yeah, probably not going
- 24:51Speaker 2: to talk to the media, but I guess we'll We'll
- 24:55Speaker 2: just have to see. Yeah, well I would like to
- 24:57Speaker 2: talk about it, but I can't.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Yeah, his next event is August eighteenth, is that correct?
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah? I believe so, and during joint practices with the Packers,
- 25:07Speaker 2: So maybe he's not a part of that trip. Maybe
- 25:08Speaker 2: he kind of joins later. But I mean, as we
- 25:10Speaker 2: talked about on the show, and I think Evan brought
- 25:12Speaker 2: it up, was you know, do you invest time in
- 25:14Speaker 2: this guy during training camp, right knowing that you know
- 25:18Speaker 2: you might not have him? Like I think that there's
- 25:20Speaker 2: a possibility. I'm sure the Patriots no more than we
- 25:22Speaker 2: do as far as what the NFL is thinking about
- 25:25Speaker 2: if you know, he might get suspended or anything like that,
- 25:28Speaker 2: or what the possible outcomes might be from that next
- 25:30Speaker 2: court hearing.
- 25:31Speaker 1: But well, it'll be interesting to monitor his reps when
- 25:34Speaker 1: is he on there, who is he with because because
- 25:37Speaker 1: that's exactly that point for exactly.
- 25:39Speaker 2: That's like he was all over the place in OTAs.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I mean, he had a couple of interceptions one day.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I mean, he just he looked crime to have a
- 25:47Speaker 2: really good second year as a you know, an outside
- 25:50Speaker 2: rotational corner between him, Gonzalez Jonathan Jones. That you had
- 25:53Speaker 2: three guys and you know, Mills is kind of now
- 25:56Speaker 2: in the middle of that, which I think is a
- 25:57Speaker 2: valuable thing to have with the uncertainty, you know, so
- 26:01Speaker 2: they it just it gave them that really valuable third
- 26:03Speaker 2: outside piece to to kind of keep guys fresh, to
- 26:05Speaker 2: not have to worry about overextending on Gonzalez and putting
- 26:09Speaker 2: too much on his plate. So they certainly could use
- 26:11Speaker 2: the player. And I think that's the biggest bummer of
- 26:14Speaker 2: all this situation.
- 26:15Speaker 5: For my money, he was the best player on the
- 26:17Speaker 5: field of the spring. Yeah, so at some point you
- 26:22Speaker 5: talked about Mills Jonathan Jones. If those guys have to
- 26:26Speaker 5: get ready to play outside corner because Jack Jones isn't
- 26:29Speaker 5: going to be there, that this is the time to
- 26:30Speaker 5: get him ready. You can't throw I mean, look, John
- 26:34Speaker 5: Jones's played a ton of football. Jalen Mills has played
- 26:36Speaker 5: a ton of football. So if you come to them
- 26:38Speaker 5: after August eighteenth and you're like, we got to kick
- 26:41Speaker 5: you back outside then I don't think it's the end
- 26:43Speaker 5: of the world, but you would just like to see,
- 26:45Speaker 5: especially with Christian Gonzalez being a rookie, him getting acclimated
- 26:49Speaker 5: and understanding with the same guys. You want to see
- 26:53Speaker 5: some continuity.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Especially with communication being such a thing in the secondary.
- 26:58Speaker 2: They're spinning, right, that's part of too. I mean, he
- 27:00Speaker 2: was probably a key piece of that communication. And you know,
- 27:03Speaker 2: a defense that spins the dial as much as they
- 27:05Speaker 2: do and has guys lining up in different positions, is
- 27:08Speaker 2: it's it's really vital that everybody's familiar with each other
- 27:11Speaker 2: and can talk and you know, knows what everything means.
- 27:14Speaker 5: And yeah, Belichick yesterday his press conference, talked a little
- 27:20Speaker 5: bit about that it was on the heels of Jwan
- 27:22Speaker 5: Bentley and that that whole conversation about the extension. But
- 27:26Speaker 5: he mentioned the communication without Devin mccorty and how Bentley
- 27:29Speaker 5: is going to take on a little bit more responsibility,
- 27:31Speaker 5: But he didn't mention anybody in the secondary for who's
- 27:34Speaker 5: going to make the checks back there, And that's going
- 27:36Speaker 5: to be an interesting thing to see, is that who
- 27:40Speaker 5: is that? Is it Adrian Phillips, Is it Kyle Duggar,
- 27:42Speaker 5: Like usually it's not a corner that's making those types
- 27:46Speaker 5: of adjustments. But Jonathan Jones certainly has the most experience
- 27:49Speaker 5: in the defense, So who's gonna be the one that
- 27:52Speaker 5: does that? Because whether his actual physical play was declining
- 27:56Speaker 5: or not, over the last couple of years, Devin mccordy
- 27:59Speaker 5: had that group on a string ye yeah, every single
- 28:02Speaker 5: week and now coverags it extremely valuable.
- 28:04Speaker 2: So I think Adrian Phillips a really interesting player for
- 28:07Speaker 2: me because I think he was such a you know,
- 28:11Speaker 2: kind of a Darling twenty twenty twenty twenty one when
- 28:14Speaker 2: he you know, it was such a great fit and
- 28:15Speaker 2: he was that versatile safety they love and was able
- 28:18Speaker 2: to do a bunch of things, and you know, I
- 28:20Speaker 2: think last year the question for me is how much
- 28:23Speaker 2: did having to go to special teams? I think when
- 28:25Speaker 2: Cody Davis got hurt, he took over, you know, a
- 28:27Speaker 2: larger amount of special team snaps and it seemed like,
- 28:30Speaker 2: you know, it looks on paper like he had a
- 28:33Speaker 2: little bit of a dip as far as safety. Wasn't
- 28:35Speaker 2: as productive as a safety. So was that because he
- 28:38Speaker 2: was kind of having to do more on special teams
- 28:40Speaker 2: or is he kind of a guy that now is
- 28:42Speaker 2: on the back end and is maybe maybe fading. I
- 28:45Speaker 2: would hope that he's still got that ability to play safety,
- 28:48Speaker 2: and if that's the case, I think he could certainly
- 28:50Speaker 2: be the guy who's super smart on the back end
- 28:52Speaker 2: that can get everybody on the same page. Played a
- 28:54Speaker 2: high amount, not on a high amount, but a significant
- 28:56Speaker 2: amount of free safety snaps last year, so I think
- 28:58Speaker 2: he's got a little bit more of that maybe than
- 29:01Speaker 2: Duggar or Peppers has.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean your guy, Pepper's played better than him
- 29:04Speaker 5: down the stretch on defense, more impactful totally on the ball.
- 29:09Speaker 5: And now you got Marty Mapu. Wherever he ends up playing,
- 29:14Speaker 5: if it's safety, if it's linebacker, it's probably gonna be
- 29:16Speaker 5: at the second level, regardless of what position they truly
- 29:19Speaker 5: call him. So that's another guy that could take away
- 29:23Speaker 5: reps or snaps from Adrian Phillips. So I love Adrian Phillips.
- 29:26Speaker 5: I think he's a good leader in the locker room.
- 29:28Speaker 5: I think he's a guy that that's a little bit
- 29:30Speaker 5: of a dark horse to be a captain this year potentially, sure,
- 29:33Speaker 5: but they've leaned so much into that keeping those types
- 29:38Speaker 5: of veteran guys around the last four or five years,
- 29:41Speaker 5: and I can't see it necessarily being a true cut candidate,
- 29:45Speaker 5: but it is somebody that you you look at and
- 29:47Speaker 5: you say, have a lot of bodies at that spot.
- 29:50Speaker 2: He's on my surprise list.
- 29:51Speaker 5: If Josh Bledsoe comes on too, and he ends up
- 29:54Speaker 5: being somebody that can factor in, it's.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see. That's why it's so interesting. Everything you'll
- 29:59Speaker 2: laid out, it's a It seems like it could go
- 30:01Speaker 2: a bunch of different ways with him.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Belichick was spending a little time one on one time
- 30:05Speaker 1: with Time Montgomery. Days with the now now he's with
- 30:08Speaker 1: the offense.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I think Time Montgomery is another guy you talk about
- 30:13Speaker 2: wild cards. I mean every practice I've seen Toime Montgomery
- 30:16Speaker 2: play in, he's heavily involved. He looks like he knows
- 30:19Speaker 2: what he's doing. He looks fast, he catches the ball well.
- 30:22Speaker 2: When they were running the wide zone stuff a lot
- 30:23Speaker 2: last year, he looked the most comfortable to me in it.
- 30:26Speaker 2: He only got him in one game, suffered a couple
- 30:28Speaker 2: injuries there toward the end of training camp and into
- 30:30Speaker 2: the early part of the season that cost him the
- 30:32Speaker 2: whole season. But you know, it's hard to try to
- 30:34Speaker 2: like Trumpet a guy who I don't know what is
- 30:36Speaker 2: a year, seven, year eight, you know, and say, oh,
- 30:38Speaker 2: he's going to be a breakout guy. But I just
- 30:40Speaker 2: can't ignore every time we've watched the practice that he
- 30:43Speaker 2: is heavily involved and seems like he's a funny guy.
- 30:45Speaker 4: He's I think that I would be anyhow, I would
- 30:48Speaker 4: be equally sort of not surprised if he is a
- 30:54Speaker 4: huge part of the offense or if he's cut like
- 30:58Speaker 4: it would not really stun me either way that wide
- 31:01Speaker 4: of a gap because of the reason why you just
- 31:03Speaker 4: said it's I think it's you have to go back
- 31:06Speaker 4: to twenty sixteen for the only time of his career
- 31:09Speaker 4: that he had eight hundred script jobs, right, And the
- 31:12Speaker 4: reason for that is not because he can't play. It's
- 31:14Speaker 4: because he hasn't really been able to stay healthy and
- 31:17Speaker 4: remain a part of a team's nucleus on offense. And
- 31:21Speaker 4: I think we saw that last year. I agree with
- 31:23Speaker 4: everything Mike just said. Every practice that we've seen he
- 31:26Speaker 4: looks like he knows what he's doing and he looks
- 31:29Speaker 4: effective doing what he's supposed to be doing. But you know,
- 31:32Speaker 4: unfortunately for him five years, Yeah, it's been a while
- 31:35Speaker 4: since he's been really an impact player.
- 31:38Speaker 1: In the league. Yeah, I'm with you, Paul. I mean,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised either way.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and I do think that he has the ability,
- 31:45Speaker 4: and I think it gives I think it gives Belichick
- 31:48Speaker 4: and Bill O'Brien a luxury in that he can provide
- 31:52Speaker 4: depth at both spots. You know, you don't want a
- 31:54Speaker 4: guy who's like your front line guy. Is he like
- 31:57Speaker 4: could play you's the one, you know that way, if
- 31:59Speaker 4: he's hurt, you'll lose two spots. But if he's like
- 32:02Speaker 4: the fifth receiver in the third running back, that's kind
- 32:06Speaker 4: of a valuable thing to have if you could do
- 32:08Speaker 4: those jobs equally effectively.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Yeah, and he Bill O'Brien loves empty so much. He
- 32:13Speaker 5: loves to go five wide empty. And now you have
- 32:15Speaker 5: a piece in Time Montgomery who can play back, running back,
- 32:18Speaker 5: or receiver based off of defensive personnel, based off of
- 32:22Speaker 5: how they line up, Like all of a sudden, you
- 32:24Speaker 5: could motion him back into the backfield and run the ball,
- 32:27Speaker 5: or you.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Could motion him up.
- 32:28Speaker 5: We used to see them do that all the time
- 32:30Speaker 5: with James White, Shane Veren. You guys like that.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Find a matchup out why, right, is he we've talked
- 32:36Speaker 4: a little bit about too, the jitterbug, quick slot guy
- 32:40Speaker 4: that Bill O'Brien, McDaniels, that they all, they've all really amplified.
- 32:44Speaker 5: He might be one of the quicker guys on the team.
- 32:46Speaker 5: So is he somebody that starts running some routes from
- 32:49Speaker 5: that number three spot in the slot, the juke routs,
- 32:52Speaker 5: the option routes over the middle of the field. I
- 32:54Speaker 5: think that there's a lot of creativity that you can
- 32:57Speaker 5: have with the formations and the flexibility that he gives.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and worth pointing out too. Right now he's warming
- 33:01Speaker 2: up with with the wide receivers, so oh yeah, you
- 33:03Speaker 2: know he's he's definitely a wide receiver. I just don't
- 33:06Speaker 2: know if he could stay healthy.
- 33:08Speaker 4: But my guess right now, you know, day one, I'm
- 33:11Speaker 4: going to be on the optimistic side and say that
- 33:13Speaker 4: that he a lot of the things they Evan just
- 33:15Speaker 4: talked about. He's that's what the plan is, and that's
- 33:17Speaker 4: what he's going to open the season doing. Yeah, hopefully
- 33:20Speaker 4: he can stay a part of it, because I do
- 33:22Speaker 4: think he provides some value there.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Enjoying watching a little bit of juju too. I mean,
- 33:26Speaker 2: we mentioned he wasn't out there for any OTAs or
- 33:28Speaker 2: any camp and you know, having Jacoby Myers established such
- 33:31Speaker 2: a level of consistency the last few seasons and you know,
- 33:34Speaker 2: wasn't the most explosive, you know, dynamic, Oh my gosh,
- 33:38Speaker 2: you know, blow your mind with all these crazy plays
- 33:40Speaker 2: kind of a catch, but he's just consistent there third down,
- 33:43Speaker 2: got to have it moments. Jacoby came down with plenty
- 33:46Speaker 2: of those, and tough catches too. So what's that trade
- 33:49Speaker 2: off look like? Yeah, going from Kobe to Juju.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you can you can see, you can already tell
- 33:54Speaker 1: that he's going to be that guy in practice that
- 33:56Speaker 1: kind of brings the energy. Uh. He was over by
- 33:59Speaker 1: the crowd just before or you know, revving them up
- 34:01Speaker 1: and they were reacting to him. You know, he's that
- 34:03Speaker 1: guy that he likes to have fun and so he'll
- 34:08Speaker 1: be kind of like that Cam Newton guy dancing and
- 34:12Speaker 1: getting his teammates.
- 34:13Speaker 5: Him and Kendrick Borne.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but you need that point, you need that that's the.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Tipping point for the offense. It's Juju and Kasiki going
- 34:21Speaker 5: in for Myers and for Johnny. If they can be
- 34:24Speaker 5: better than those two guys, then maybe this offense does
- 34:27Speaker 5: end up being better than we think.
- 34:29Speaker 2: And how do you guys, what do you guys think
- 34:30Speaker 2: with Marcus Jones this year? I mean, what do you
- 34:32Speaker 2: how do you think his involvement is going to be
- 34:34Speaker 2: in terms of offense defense. I mean, obviously he's gonna
- 34:37Speaker 2: probably return punts, that's probably a pretty easy bet. But
- 34:40Speaker 2: what do you think they're gonna do with with Marcus Jones.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I think that's another one that's sort of reliant on
- 34:45Speaker 4: Jack Jones. And back to the conversation that we had
- 34:48Speaker 4: at the start when they came out, we were doing
- 34:50Speaker 4: attendance because if Jack Jones and Christian Gonzales a year
- 34:53Speaker 4: short fire starting corners on the outside, and Jonathan Jones
- 34:57Speaker 4: can play in the slot, and now you have some
- 35:00Speaker 4: depth with Jalen Mills with the rest of the safeties
- 35:03Speaker 4: that we talked about, then there's not really that urgency
- 35:06Speaker 4: to have Marcus Jones be a huge part of the secondary.
- 35:09Speaker 2: And I think that frees you up.
- 35:10Speaker 4: I don't think ideally you want to do what you
- 35:12Speaker 4: did last year in a couple of games and have
- 35:14Speaker 4: him now taking significant snaps in all three faces.
- 35:17Speaker 1: But I look at Marcus Jones as sort of like
- 35:19Speaker 1: a specialty player, even at cornerback. I look at him like,
- 35:23Speaker 1: you know, when you're playing Miami and you need someone
- 35:26Speaker 1: to just stick with Tyreek Hill, not necessarily you know,
- 35:29Speaker 1: back down passes, but just be hon as much, but
- 35:32Speaker 1: just be with him so that when he makes the
- 35:34Speaker 1: catch there's not a lot of extra yards. I see
- 35:37Speaker 1: him playing, you know, being that speed corner that sticks
- 35:42Speaker 1: with other guys speed. Obviously he's going to return punts.
- 35:46Speaker 1: I still think that they'll use him from time to
- 35:48Speaker 1: time on offense, you know, just throw him in there
- 35:51Speaker 1: from time to time. But I hope that that's not
- 35:54Speaker 1: a big role.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I like the idea of him not having to play
- 35:58Speaker 4: a lot of corner rights and then he gets he
- 36:01Speaker 4: needs to and he's and he's he's a special Like
- 36:03Speaker 4: when you started, I was really on board. How you said,
- 36:06Speaker 4: like a sort of a specialty at all of them.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I don't.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I don't.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I'm not sold on his ability to be a corner
- 36:13Speaker 4: now this league. I think he's too small.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, well, certainly against Matt Collins last year.
- 36:18Speaker 1: You don't want you don't want him down the edge,
- 36:20Speaker 1: you know.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I think he chases fifty. I think he chases a lot,
- 36:23Speaker 2: that's all I mean.
- 36:24Speaker 4: I it's a hard job. I mean that slot corner
- 36:27Speaker 4: stuff in that league. I mean it's it's really really hard. Yeah, Like,
- 36:30Speaker 4: and he was a rookie, and you know, I certainly
- 36:33Speaker 4: am willing to watch year two jump and see how
- 36:36Speaker 4: much more comfortably he looks as a secondary guy.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But he's just never going to be taller than five eights, right.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I like the idea of him sort of being, oh, yeah,
- 36:44Speaker 4: we can use him at corner in a pinch if.
- 36:46Speaker 1: You need him. But I don't know, maybe you know,
- 36:48Speaker 1: Evan's our film guy, but you know, is there a
- 36:50Speaker 1: role for a guy who you know sticks with your
- 36:53Speaker 1: speed guy?
- 36:55Speaker 5: And as if he does.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But as he travels through zones, he gets help in
- 37:00Speaker 1: the various zones.
- 37:02Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, or in you know, more times that the
- 37:05Speaker 5: help would come from from man, you know. But like
- 37:07Speaker 5: I think that the thing is with him is that
- 37:11Speaker 5: he's gonna, to Fred's point, you're gonna match him up
- 37:13Speaker 5: against guys you're not. He's not gonna have to go
- 37:16Speaker 5: and run outside with T Higgins like in a week
- 37:19Speaker 5: to week basis. So if he's in the slot, then
- 37:22Speaker 5: if you're playing a team that uses guys that are
- 37:25Speaker 5: bigger slot receivers, and he's probably not.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Your slot corner that way exactly.
- 37:29Speaker 5: But if you're playing guys that have, you know, the
- 37:31Speaker 5: quicker slots or the speed slots and those types of things,
- 37:34Speaker 5: then I agree with Fred that I think that he
- 37:36Speaker 5: can be an effective player there in a lot of ways.
- 37:38Speaker 5: I think he's got a great, great, maybe the best
- 37:41Speaker 5: possible guy to learn from in Jonathan Jones of how
- 37:44Speaker 5: to use four three speed and on defense and how
- 37:47Speaker 5: to cover guys with your speed being an advantage. And
- 37:51Speaker 5: I think Jonathan Jones a little bit bigger than him,
- 37:53Speaker 5: but it's not like Jonathan Jones is four or five
- 37:56Speaker 5: inches taller. He's I think an inch and a half
- 37:58Speaker 5: taller maybe, So I think that it's similar, and I
- 38:02Speaker 5: think he's gonna be a defensive player. I think Marcus
- 38:04Speaker 5: Jones wants to be a corner. I don't think he
- 38:06Speaker 5: wants to play receiver. And ideally, it goes back to
- 38:10Speaker 5: all the conversations we had all off season about the
- 38:12Speaker 5: receiver position, that that's something that you have, it's like
- 38:15Speaker 5: a trick play, like that's something you have in your
- 38:17Speaker 5: back pocket. If you're relying on Marcus Jones having to
- 38:20Speaker 5: be this explosive playmaker for you on offense. It's probably
- 38:23Speaker 5: because the other guys aren't making plays.
- 38:25Speaker 4: I agree, And I don't want to rely on that either,
- 38:27Speaker 4: just like I don't want to have to rely on
- 38:29Speaker 4: a wildcat package with an undrafted rookie year.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Well, you use the wordly and I don't want to.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that tells me that my offense is started.
- 38:37Speaker 1: But neither I or Evan said rely on it. It's
- 38:40Speaker 1: just something that you have, like when you think this
- 38:43Speaker 1: could work here, you've practiced it and you're ready to mantics.
- 38:47Speaker 6: And we don't have to get bogged down it.
- 38:48Speaker 4: But my point is, if your offense is good, you're
- 38:50Speaker 4: not looking at some other way to move the ball.
- 38:53Speaker 2: That's my point.
- 38:54Speaker 5: I just look at the Cam Newton here and how
- 38:56Speaker 5: effective they were in short yardage because the quarterback's legs
- 38:59Speaker 5: were a fact. That's that's all that I look at.
- 39:02Speaker 5: I mean, they were a really good red zone rushing
- 39:05Speaker 5: team in the Cam Newton. You're as bad as they
- 39:07Speaker 5: were in other areas, and they were really good in
- 39:10Speaker 5: that area because.
- 39:11Speaker 2: The quarterback he was effective running the ball.
- 39:13Speaker 5: No doubt they're playing eleven on eleven right, And I
- 39:16Speaker 5: think if you don't have a full back those third
- 39:19Speaker 5: and ones, and you're not gonna have a lead blocker
- 39:22Speaker 5: to lead the way, it just it allows you in
- 39:26Speaker 5: a numbers advantage that you don't normally have with Mac.
- 39:29Speaker 5: And I think that that can be a factor. Not
- 39:31Speaker 5: something that you do, you know, fifteen twenty times a game,
- 39:35Speaker 5: but something that you do two or three. If that
- 39:37Speaker 5: then that who knows, maybe it can be a factor.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Just a couple of observations here. We got Michael I got,
- 39:44Speaker 2: I got Marty Mapu and Jalen Mills are with the
- 39:47Speaker 2: safety group warming up, and I have Steve Belichick is
- 39:51Speaker 2: is working with the safety group. It seems like he's
- 39:53Speaker 2: coaching them up right now. So just a couple little persons.
- 39:57Speaker 1: They're actually you know, they're down a coach because Brian
- 40:01Speaker 1: Belichick suffered an injury during the off season, so I
- 40:05Speaker 1: don't think he's out there and I don't think he'll
- 40:07Speaker 1: be out there. Uh, so you know, they're down a
- 40:11Speaker 1: coach there in the in the secondary.
- 40:13Speaker 2: And I believe Steve. Steve had coached the safeties previously,
- 40:17Speaker 2: so you know, and.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Then they have Girodd to coach the linebackers for the time.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so probably not a huge, huge deal, but
- 40:24Speaker 2: just interesting, certainly with Mills and ma and Mapu kind
- 40:28Speaker 2: of getting their early work.
- 40:29Speaker 5: I hate that Maphus with the safeties.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I hate it.
- 40:31Speaker 5: It just it irks my It grinds my gears. Mike, Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 5: it grinds my gears. It does.
- 40:37Speaker 2: It's the same thing. It's a line he's a linebacker.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Like his hair on fire.
- 40:43Speaker 5: This team, this team would get Matt Mulano and they
- 40:45Speaker 5: would make him a safety. Like it just it drives
- 40:48Speaker 5: me nuts, like you finally have somebody that can run
- 40:52Speaker 5: sideline to sideline. And when you watch him in college,
- 40:54Speaker 5: and I know it was against a lower level of competition,
- 40:57Speaker 5: but when you watch him in college, the kid can hit,
- 41:00Speaker 5: Like he comes downhill at the line of scrimmage and
- 41:02Speaker 5: he can blow people up. Like, go watch him at
- 41:05Speaker 5: the Senior Bowl if you don't want to watch him
- 41:06Speaker 5: at Sacramento State because you don't think it was good
- 41:09Speaker 5: enough football. Like he's coming downhill and blowing up wide
- 41:12Speaker 5: zone and all sorts of stuff. Like he's a physical kid.
- 41:16Speaker 5: I don't know why. I mean, look, if he plays
- 41:19Speaker 5: box safety and he plays the Adrian Phillips role or
- 41:22Speaker 5: the Jabriel Peppers role, And I guess it's semantics like
- 41:24Speaker 5: he's playing at the second level either way.
- 41:27Speaker 2: They're just not going to play him at first, first,
- 41:29Speaker 2: and second down mostly, you know, on as a linebacker, which.
- 41:32Speaker 5: Troubles me because that's when teams run option football, Like
- 41:35Speaker 5: that's when read option comes out. That's when RPO comes out.
- 41:38Speaker 5: RPO and read option stuff typically is not You're not
- 41:41Speaker 5: running that on third and eight. That's what you run
- 41:43Speaker 5: on first and ten. So if he's not going to
- 41:45Speaker 5: be out there for all three downs, then what you're
- 41:49Speaker 5: misusing it? Like, then what's the purpose?
- 41:52Speaker 2: I mean, is there something to be said that Maybe
- 41:54Speaker 2: it's about learning the defense from the back end first,
- 41:56Speaker 2: and you know, maybe it's starting him there for a
- 41:59Speaker 2: certain reason and maybe not necessarily closing the book on
- 42:03Speaker 2: him potentially moving the linebacker full time.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 42:05Speaker 2: I just this is my thing. I just I don't
- 42:07Speaker 2: think they're gonna play him at the line. I think
- 42:09Speaker 2: you're totally right. And one of the biggest problems too,
- 42:12Speaker 2: I feel like is they play so heavy and with
- 42:14Speaker 2: that two gap style with no penetration, you know, when
- 42:17Speaker 2: teams I feel I can take advantage of that, and
- 42:19Speaker 2: I think teams have been taken advantage of it.
- 42:22Speaker 5: I mean last year in the Buffalo game here, the
- 42:25Speaker 5: Bills didn't really run for like six yards of carryer
- 42:29Speaker 5: or anything like that, but they were getting four, three,
- 42:32Speaker 5: four or five at a time just because they were
- 42:35Speaker 5: just slowly gradually moving the line at scrimmage and there
- 42:39Speaker 5: was no penetration in the backfield. And he's just somebody
- 42:42Speaker 5: that we saw it in the spring that when he
- 42:44Speaker 5: sees it and he can just come downhill like a
- 42:46Speaker 5: missile and he can make plays all over the field,
- 42:49Speaker 5: and I just want to see him at the second level.
- 42:51Speaker 5: So I guess it's semantics, like if they end up
- 42:53Speaker 5: using him as that box safety, that hybrid linebacker safety
- 42:57Speaker 5: position that they have in their defense, then so then whatever,
- 43:00Speaker 5: if he's not working with the linebackers, and I guess
- 43:02Speaker 5: it's fine, But I just I wanted him thinking like
- 43:05Speaker 5: a linebacker. I want him out there playing like a linebacker.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Where he starts really isn't as important as where he
- 43:11Speaker 1: ends up after the ball snapped, you know. And you know,
- 43:14Speaker 1: we talked about big Nickel or whatever you want to
- 43:16Speaker 1: call that position. He could still perform those duties, Evan,
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know, yep, so we'll see, you know, we we
- 43:24Speaker 1: have high hopes for him with third round pick.
- 43:29Speaker 2: I mean, he was one of the darlings of OTAs
- 43:31Speaker 2: just because he was you know, like you don't want
- 43:33Speaker 2: to get too enamored with what happens without pads or
- 43:36Speaker 2: anything like that, but but he just you know, when
- 43:37Speaker 2: you see these rookies come out here, some rookies look overwhelmed.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Some guys you know, they don't do anything. You like,
- 43:43Speaker 2: was that guy even out there? But he was one
- 43:45Speaker 2: consistently out there getting reps, getting opportunities. And it'll be
- 43:49Speaker 2: nice to see when of the Red Jersey comes back
- 43:51Speaker 2: because I think, as Evan alluded to, he hit like
- 43:55Speaker 2: he puts his shoulder into guys like you wouldn't believe
- 43:57Speaker 2: in it. I mean, I know it's a you know,
- 43:59Speaker 2: FCS level, but he he turned some heads down there
- 44:03Speaker 2: at the Senior Bowl, and I think that's probably where
- 44:04Speaker 2: the Patriots.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Oh sorry, So this first practice, so you know, it'll
- 44:12Speaker 1: be more of a walkthrough type practice. There's no pads today,
- 44:16Speaker 1: not even shells, and they'll slowly ramp up until the
- 44:20Speaker 1: point where we expect on Monday they will have pads on.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I think you know CBA rules don't allow pads. It's
- 44:28Speaker 1: not a Patriots thing. Oh, we're not gonna you can't.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Even if Belichick wanted to put pads on day one,
- 44:33Speaker 1: he couldn't.
- 44:33Speaker 2: This is part of the acclamation period.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Yes, that's a good point that you bring up, because
- 44:37Speaker 4: I know that in recent years there's been I won't
- 44:41Speaker 4: say a lot, but there's.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Been some talk among the media, among the talk.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Shows and whatnot about, well, Belichick's lightning up on him
- 44:48Speaker 4: as he's getting older. He seems to be camp is easier.
- 44:52Speaker 4: I don't think it's all by design.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Some of it is. Some of it.
- 44:55Speaker 6: I think that they've sort of.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Try to revolutionize some of their training methods and getting
- 45:00Speaker 4: the players off the feet a little bit more. But
- 45:03Speaker 4: this early acclamation stuff is CBA mandated. They have to be,
- 45:07Speaker 4: like Fred said, no pads the first two days, the second,
- 45:12Speaker 4: the second two days they practice or in shells before
- 45:15Speaker 4: they can even start to get into the equipment. And
- 45:18Speaker 4: then I think it's something like they can't be in
- 45:21Speaker 4: pads more than three days in a row. Every five days.
- 45:25Speaker 4: You have to have an off day. So I think
- 45:26Speaker 4: that what happens once those things start to pile up,
- 45:30Speaker 4: you know, some of the some of the football experts
- 45:33Speaker 4: chime in and tell you Bill's going soft on them.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Yeah, has high school followed suit Paul do. Yeah, this
- 45:41Speaker 1: high school is stringent about no pads and all that.
- 45:44Speaker 4: So they, yeah, they can't be in pads for I
- 45:48Speaker 4: think the first full week. I think it's six full
- 45:51Speaker 4: days on the field without pads. And they do have
- 45:54Speaker 4: and I should point out the Patriots and all NFL
- 45:57Speaker 4: teams are allowed to do two practices in the day.
- 46:01Speaker 4: They can't both be padded and they and they are
- 46:04Speaker 4: limited to a total of four hours, So they could
- 46:07Speaker 4: go two hours in pads if they wanted to go
- 46:10Speaker 4: in you know, sort of rehab whatever, watch the film,
- 46:14Speaker 4: whatever they want to do, and come back out and
- 46:16Speaker 4: do two more hours unpadded if they so choose. And
- 46:20Speaker 4: I think that they do walk through sort of tempo
- 46:23Speaker 4: in the afternoon that's not open to the media, not
- 46:25Speaker 4: open to the public on occasion, but just I know
- 46:28Speaker 4: a lot of people like in my day it was
- 46:30Speaker 4: two a day's Well, Fred and I were around when
- 46:32Speaker 4: they did two a days at Bryant College. The two
- 46:34Speaker 4: practices were never both padded. No one of them was
- 46:37Speaker 4: always in pads, and one of them wasn't. Right now,
- 46:39Speaker 4: back in the day when we used to get to
- 46:41Speaker 4: watch both practices and get to get more like I
- 46:45Speaker 4: had to.
- 46:46Speaker 1: There was that morning and afternoon session, and to.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Be honest, a lot of us we would really divide
- 46:51Speaker 4: that up, and some of the outlets would just say,
- 46:54Speaker 4: can you do me a favor?
- 46:55Speaker 2: Let me know who died? You know, if if someone dies,
- 46:57Speaker 2: can you let me know, because they would be writing, Man,
- 47:00Speaker 2: I that's some of my I don't. I guess I
- 47:02Speaker 2: call him fond memories. But when I had double sessions.
- 47:05Speaker 2: My first year of playing football was when I actually
- 47:07Speaker 2: discovered the gatorade powder like everyone's had regular gatoraye, but
- 47:11Speaker 2: the gatorade powder that you mix with waters and art
- 47:13Speaker 2: to it. And oh man, I couldn't believe I had
- 47:15Speaker 2: to go back on the field after that morning practice.
- 47:17Speaker 2: It was just so hot and get a headache, guzzling
- 47:20Speaker 2: neck powdered gatorade like you know, and it's probably way
- 47:22Speaker 2: too sweet, not enough water.
- 47:24Speaker 5: But I never got a good mix with the powdered
- 47:27Speaker 5: water to range can I have a little observation.
- 47:35Speaker 1: They used to give us salt pills.
- 47:36Speaker 2: I didn't get pills with the hydrae. I didn't do.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Does that not make sense?
- 47:40Speaker 1: It was the worst thing for you. I don't think.
- 47:42Speaker 5: I don't think the scientists want to.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Yeah, well, well.
- 47:47Speaker 4: This is another one of those Paul things that he
- 47:49Speaker 4: knows just a little bit about, probably going to get
- 47:51Speaker 4: it all wrong.
- 47:51Speaker 6: But when you are sweating, you need.
- 47:54Speaker 4: To replace some of that that sodium that you're losing, right,
- 47:57Speaker 4: That's what was the theory about.
- 47:59Speaker 1: That was the theory behind salt pills, Like it's.
- 48:01Speaker 4: Not necessarily dehydrated, Like salt's going to dehydrate you. And
- 48:04Speaker 4: but obviously you don't want to just be like downing salt.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Like chips when you're at the beach are always something
- 48:10Speaker 4: that you know, a.
- 48:11Speaker 6: Bag of chips, potato chips. Yeah, just to get a little.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Of the sodium in you to replace what you're sweating.
- 48:17Speaker 2: But go ahead, Evan, I think I know what do
- 48:18Speaker 2: we got?
- 48:19Speaker 5: What do we got? Anything?
- 48:20Speaker 1: Do you?
- 48:21Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 48:21Speaker 2: I don't I don't know.
- 48:23Speaker 6: By looking at his face, I don't think he don't.
- 48:26Speaker 5: I just a couple of weeks ago I went to
- 48:29Speaker 5: max a charity thing with the boys and girls covered
- 48:32Speaker 5: Y M c A or whatever, and I noticed it then.
- 48:34Speaker 5: But it's in good shape. It's like he's in really
- 48:37Speaker 5: good shape, like low key fit king status different. I
- 48:42Speaker 5: think he looked interesting seeing him up close at the
- 48:46Speaker 5: at the event. He looks swollen like not.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Just like skinny body change interesting.
- 48:52Speaker 5: I think that a couple of years ago because I I,
- 48:55Speaker 5: you know, it's it's the best shape in my life season, right.
- 49:00Speaker 5: I think he looks fitter now than he did last year,
- 49:03Speaker 5: and that was supposed to be the big you know,
- 49:06Speaker 5: mac loss weight. He stopped eating ice cream like that
- 49:10Speaker 5: all came last year, last offseason and all his teammates saying,
- 49:14Speaker 5: oh he lost the gut. I think he's even better shape.
- 49:17Speaker 1: I know if he has you know, his own trainer
- 49:20Speaker 1: or is he just going through football.
- 49:22Speaker 2: Just kicking it up as he goes.
- 49:23Speaker 5: He has his own team, I mean all these quarterbacks too,
- 49:26Speaker 5: It's not just him.
- 49:27Speaker 2: So that was not what I thought you're gonna say.
- 49:29Speaker 2: But this is an observation that that, you know, we've
- 49:31Speaker 2: talked about sometimes certain guys are with you know, the
- 49:34Speaker 2: top kind of group and right now it's kind of
- 49:37Speaker 2: the top offensive weapons. You know, You've got Hunter, Henry Gas,
- 49:40Speaker 2: Sicky Uh, the usual suspects you would expect to be there,
- 49:42Speaker 2: Parker Born Thornton. But also to Mario Davis is the
- 49:46Speaker 2: is the only rookie here that's with this group. Everybody
- 49:48Speaker 2: else is sorry, Douglas Uh is the only one here
- 49:51Speaker 2: you know with Max, so you know, take from it
- 49:53Speaker 2: what you will. Time Montgomery's over there as well with
- 49:56Speaker 2: Pierre Strong. So those three guys are you know, maybe
- 49:59Speaker 2: some names you it might be interested to hear.
- 50:01Speaker 1: As you see, we've had to turn off our video
- 50:03Speaker 1: cameras per rules. But at that STA Yeah, but I
- 50:08Speaker 1: want to tell this a good time to tell people

- 53:00Speaker 1: go places, all right, Well we are back. It's Fred Kurz,
- 53:04Speaker 1: Paul Parrillo, Mike dus So, Evan Lazar high above the
- 53:07Speaker 1: practice fields at Patriots training camp. We are live twenty
- 53:11Speaker 1: twenty three training camp, and right now Mac is leading
- 53:15Speaker 1: the skill position players in some red zone drills, doing
- 53:21Speaker 1: some passes. Same thing going on on the far side
- 53:23Speaker 1: of the field with with Zappi defense is to our left.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I don't know what they're doing. They're doing the same stuff. Yeah,
- 53:32Speaker 1: they're doing the same stuff.
- 53:33Speaker 6: They're preparing defensively from the.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Other side of the ball. But right now, you know
- 53:40Speaker 1: I heard Evans saying Mac dropping dimes, is that this
- 53:45Speaker 1: is the.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Time against times against a If you're not dropping times here,
- 53:48Speaker 2: you're your probably JV high school team.
- 53:51Speaker 5: Well, right, but I'm always does look good against its
- 53:56Speaker 5: always dropping times.
- 53:58Speaker 1: I'm always interested to see who Belichick is spending his
- 54:01Speaker 1: time with and right now he's with Mac in that group.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Yep, so Bill O'Brien and then doesn't trust Billy. Oh huh, No,
- 54:10Speaker 2: I'm not sure where where Joe Judge is at the
- 54:12Speaker 2: middle of the field right now. Yeah, see, you know,
- 54:15Speaker 2: I mean we saw a lot of Joe Judge with
- 54:16Speaker 2: the special teams and you know, now it's it's almost
- 54:19Speaker 2: like they're divided, divide it up and you know, Cam
- 54:22Speaker 2: a Court's working with with the punters over here, and
- 54:26Speaker 2: then I'm not sure who Joe Judge is working with,
- 54:29Speaker 2: but it looks like some coverage guys. So there's plenty
- 54:32Speaker 2: of special teams to go around.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Paul.
- 54:33Speaker 5: I mean, I think as.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Many coaches as he think, he's involved in everything.
- 54:36Speaker 4: When you're the assistant head coach and you know, beating
- 54:39Speaker 4: his bio and whatnot. Like, I don't think he's just
- 54:42Speaker 4: the Special teams coordinate. I think he's involved in a
- 54:45Speaker 4: lot of things.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I would, I would.
- 54:47Speaker 5: I'd wonder how many teams have three special teams coaches
- 54:52Speaker 5: on staff, Like I don't. Actually, it doesn't really matter
- 54:54Speaker 5: how big the staff is, not it counts against the
- 54:56Speaker 5: salary cap or something like that to have to have
- 54:59Speaker 5: a big staff, but they have three guys now basically
- 55:03Speaker 5: exclusively on the practice field at least dedicated after the.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Last year's performance, they might need it. So I you know,
- 55:10Speaker 1: I'm one of those people that do think that special
- 55:12Speaker 1: teams plays a role and it's important and you can
- 55:16Speaker 1: you can certainly lose games by bad special teams play.
- 55:19Speaker 4: Well, you can you can win them with good special
- 55:21Speaker 4: team play too, like they did against the Jets.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a factor. So what do we have now, Well.
- 55:29Speaker 2: We're moving on to something here and some punting Marcus Jones.
- 55:33Speaker 4: Marcus Jones first special teams periods looks like looks like
- 55:38Speaker 4: some shell work with the vice guys on on one
- 55:41Speaker 4: field vice and gunners, and on the other field, it's
- 55:45Speaker 4: more of the interior guys lined up doing some some
- 55:50Speaker 4: punt simulation and it looks like Barringer and Weightman getting
- 55:54Speaker 4: some reps here on the left field, the left side.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and now got some hang times. Macus still working
- 56:00Speaker 1: with you know, the receivers. He's got the running backs
- 56:02Speaker 1: in there too, So it looks like they're doing their
- 56:05Speaker 1: short yardage pass plays type of walkthrough with all the
- 56:09Speaker 1: quarterbacks not just Mac, They're all in the same group
- 56:12Speaker 1: in the far side of the field there and in
- 56:15Speaker 1: the middle of the field. They've got the special teams,
- 56:18Speaker 1: you know, the starting from you know, how do you
- 56:22Speaker 1: start the play? You know, So they've got the not cones,
- 56:26Speaker 1: but they've got the markers there to make sure that
- 56:28Speaker 1: the alignment on at the snap is correct. Just just
- 56:33Speaker 1: I mean, it's fundamentals, it's breaking it down and building
- 56:35Speaker 1: it back up.
- 56:37Speaker 2: How hard do you think this day is for the players,
- 56:39Speaker 2: Like just the first day out there, not really contact,
- 56:41Speaker 2: but I mean a guy's in just such good shape
- 56:43Speaker 2: now that this is you know, this this day doesn't
- 56:45Speaker 2: really have much of an impact. I just remember from
- 56:48Speaker 2: playing sports, the first day back, no matter how much
- 56:50Speaker 2: shape you were, no matter how you felt, the first day,
- 56:52Speaker 2: you were exhausted and up and oh yeah, I wonder
- 56:55Speaker 2: if it's if it's similar even for today's modern NFL athletes.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Yeah, your boy Douglas by the way, taking some of
- 57:04Speaker 4: these reps.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:05Speaker 4: So turning in between Marcus Jones and Miles Bryant.
- 57:08Speaker 1: And we talked about, you know how the intendance was
- 57:11Speaker 1: really good and encouraging. Yesterday they had their conditioning run,
- 57:14Speaker 1: and if you hadn't, if you didn't pass your conditioning run,
- 57:17Speaker 1: you wouldn't be out here right now. So that's a
- 57:19Speaker 1: good sign. The guys came not just without injury, but
- 57:24Speaker 1: in shape.
- 57:25Speaker 4: Right, And the NFI stuff sometimes is an indication of that.
- 57:28Speaker 4: And someone did you guys mention there was someone on
- 57:30Speaker 4: NFI but immediately came off.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Yeah, Mitchell Mitchell, Yeah, Marcus Mitchell.
- 57:37Speaker 1: They might have let him take a second shot at it.
- 57:39Speaker 4: I wonder if he just said, listen, I cramped up,
- 57:40Speaker 4: can I take it again? Or something like that. Yeah,
- 57:42Speaker 4: and he passed at the second time, right.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I saw him walking off the field yesterday. They looked
- 57:46Speaker 2: they look pretty tired. But I saw Kyle Vanoy tweeted
- 57:49Speaker 2: out that they got a good one. Yeah, they got
- 57:51Speaker 2: a good.
- 57:51Speaker 5: One, so they some James White went on a podcast
- 57:55Speaker 5: recently talked about it. But basically it's twenty sixty yards
- 58:00Speaker 5: sprints with like a thirty second break at ten.
- 58:05Speaker 4: And I don't know if they've changed it, but that
- 58:07Speaker 4: varies by position, right, and by length.
- 58:10Speaker 5: So what if most of the varying is how much
- 58:14Speaker 5: when I say twenty sixty yard sprints is not just
- 58:16Speaker 5: you have to complete it in your all set, you
- 58:17Speaker 5: have to do it in a certain amount of time.
- 58:19Speaker 4: Correct, Each one has to be done in a certain
- 58:21Speaker 4: amount of time, and they all have to be done
- 58:22Speaker 4: in a certain right time.
- 58:23Speaker 5: Right.
- 58:24Speaker 2: So in other words, your time to rest in between
- 58:26Speaker 2: is limited.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Right, Yes, and then Trent Brown's time would be different
- 58:30Speaker 1: than yeah time Montgomery.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Yeah, probably totally as different as you would think, which
- 58:34Speaker 2: is always surprising with how big those how well those
- 58:37Speaker 2: big guys move.
- 58:37Speaker 5: David Andrews said at his press conference yesterday that a
- 58:42Speaker 5: regular person that's in shape would be able to do
- 58:45Speaker 5: the offensive line conditioning test. He said, like, if you
- 58:49Speaker 5: you know your guy that goes to the gym four
- 58:51Speaker 5: or five days a week, like you'd probably be able.
- 58:53Speaker 2: To four or five days a week. Yeah, that's a lot,
- 58:55Speaker 2: I challenged, not accepted. Duvie. We did have a I
- 59:00Speaker 2: was when I was doing the Patriots blog. We have
- 59:02Speaker 2: one of the writers. He volunteered to do it and
- 59:05Speaker 2: he videotaped himself doing it and uh, yeah, he got sick.
- 59:08Speaker 2: It was really hard, really yeah. Yeah, to me, it's
- 59:12Speaker 2: all about the time.
- 59:14Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, there's no rest, like you it's got to
- 59:16Speaker 4: like go now, Like today, I couldn't do it at all.
- 59:20Speaker 4: But absolutely I could have done it, say, ten years ago,
- 59:24Speaker 4: but the time would be the issue because I'm slow.
- 59:26Speaker 6: I'm very slow. I'm slow afoot.
- 59:28Speaker 5: Yeah, that's my problem too. I could do it from
- 59:31Speaker 5: like a an endurance standpoint. It's the speed that I
- 59:34Speaker 5: couldn't do.
- 59:35Speaker 4: Now today, I couldn't do any any of it endurance
- 59:38Speaker 4: speed whatever, nothing, I'd die.
- 59:40Speaker 5: That was always my issue. Could I could run for days,
- 59:42Speaker 5: but I could only run.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Out one fast one speed. I always wanted to be fast.
- 59:47Speaker 1: What's it like to be nikon? Oh tell us?
- 59:50Speaker 2: Just to dust people like, just to know that no
- 59:52Speaker 2: one can catch you. I must be nice. So this
- 59:55Speaker 2: seems like we're getting maybe something.
- 59:56Speaker 4: Anyway, Wait, a special teams period is wrapping up, so
- 59:59Speaker 4: we can go back to watching practice.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: What is that competitive period here? So yeah, let's uh
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: getting an early look here at the defense Lawrence guy
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: back in his usual spot there at the left defensive
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: end position. Yep.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: And as they always do, they they always start in
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: that red zone, right, Paul.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: Yeah, this is I think looking forward to the question tomorrow, it's.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: Gonna be some run stuff. I twitched the inn do
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: a ton of in the spring.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Yeah, so remonder in the backfield inside zone.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: Sorry, I don't know.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Uh yeah, this time they they gave ed Lee a
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: little little jet sweep.
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: I'm still not I still don't know what direction they're
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: going in with the run game. Like, I don't know
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: if they're going back to the Scarneckia McDaniel's power schemes
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: or if they're going to try the zone thing again.
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: I I just haven't done enough of it, so I
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: haven't I can't really tell where where they're at right now.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Riley Reef at right tackle, guy, I want to right
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: guard in place of Mike.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: We mentioned it at the top, But I also I
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: want to go back to the size of the crowd today.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: It's actually swelled size craff. You look at the stands,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: but then you look down the spine here. I mean
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: it is packed with People's good.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: It's good, solid opening day crowd.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: It's worth pointing out too that the stands are one
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: of the hottest places on Earth during this Like there
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: was just no escaping the sun on those seats, So
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: I imagine a lot of people are probably more company
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: I got here earlier.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: And I also think the size of that that hill
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: over here that people like to sit.
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: On, Fred is kind of shrunk, yeah, in recent years.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: But that's packed.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: No, it's definitely packed. But I'm saying I think that's
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: necessitating a lot of the people standing standing behind.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: If you look, if you look used to be hill area,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: if you look straight down though, where there's a lot
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: of people, a lot of people down there. So I'd say,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: what twenty thirty thousand, that.
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: Sounds about just kidding, No, but I a good, good,
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: solid opening day crowd.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I think there's like three four thousand.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Fred likes to to sort of tell you that there's
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: five thousand every day.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Today. There's a good solid crowd today. Yeah, Hey, first
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: day of KIM. That's what it's about.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Yep. Get those giveaways, eat the food, free parking, non
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: good tape, red zone.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: It's really telling.
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: Well, I don't know how much I'm supposed to give away,
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: but some of the things that they're doing schematically with
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: mac over here. This is what This is what makes
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: me excited about having Bill O'Brien back in the building
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: because it's not just the play designs themselves, but you
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: can see how they like build up to the different
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: creative things that they're going to do with the run
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: game and marrying that to urpo, marrying that to play action,
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: and that's sort of what we're seeing now. First it
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: started just inside runs, inside runs. Then they attach the
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: pass routes to it, and then they now they're back
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: under center and you can just see the sequencing and
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: like sort of the build up of how they're installing
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: and the entire thing, Like.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Everything you're saying right now is like, you know, that's
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: what players want. You know, like there's a purpose to it.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: They know what they're doing. We go back to last year,
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: you think, like that's what they weren't getting. I feel like,
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: you know, they just they what's the plan?
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: Like last year it just felt like we talked about
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: it sometimes, you know, during the season it felt like
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: how I play Madden where I'm just like grabbing plays
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: right and it just but here you can see, Okay,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: we're gonna do this, and then we're going to add
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: this to it, and then we're gonna add that to it.
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: And that's that's how you build up the reps and
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: you build up the confidence and and what you're running
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: and the knowledge and what you're running. So it's I
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: would have it's so different.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I would have thought that you would have designed your
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: own playbook for Madden.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: No.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: I think like you're like, No, I got my own
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: playbooks elements that I've pulled from various I did that too,
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: But you know.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Not to not to harp on the past. But you know,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: it's not like Patricia hasn't seen how offenses build up
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: exactly how you're talking. But for some reason it broke down.
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: They didn't want it to work. Yeah, they never allowed.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: It to even have a chance.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: And by they, I mean the members of the offense
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: too many of them anyway.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Yeah, So it was just a complete breakdown and guys
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: didn't buy in for whatever reason. It was just a
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: bad situation.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: And it will be I mean, listen, Bill O'Brien is
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: a good solid offense or coordinator. The stuff that Evans
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: just said will happen. They will have a purpose, and
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: they will do a better job of setting things up
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: and understanding sequences than they did last year. I don't
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: think there's much doubt about that. But they have to
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: go out and execute it.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Yeah. I just think the point more so is just
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: it's the building of the fundamentals and the actual actions
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: that they're going to be using that you start here
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: in stage one on day one, and you really start
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: with the basics and then you build it up and
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: build it up and build it up to the more
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: complex stuff. And if you don't, it just felt like
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: last year that they didn't start at square one. That's
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: really it. And you know, they you can see, Okay,
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: you know this is we're gonna do this, and then
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: we're gonna run this off of it, and then we're
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: gonna run that off of it, but it's not. We
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: don't get to the second and third step in the
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: process until we mastered number one. And those were the
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: things that I think they cut corners on last year
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: and that's what affected games well.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: And you know, for us, it didn't look that way
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: because they were they were implementing that new scheme. So
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I don't know if it was cutting corners, but it
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: just didn't look the same because they were right right
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: from the get go trying something new and.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: That requires reps, right.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: And it just threw everyone off.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: It never looked right now, it didn't from the second
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: day of training camp on, it never looked right.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: It did not look right, and we saw it like
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: my layman's eyes. I'm I'm no expert, but even I
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: said this, this isn't right. And I, you know, naively
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: thought that they'll get it. You know, it's new for everyone.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Eventually they'll catch on. And they never did. They never did,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: and you know, I think at times they reverted back
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: to the old ways and then kept it was just.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: But again, I don't want to It's a new season,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. We're starting over, new new offensive coordinator. Uh,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: let's go. Let's go.
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: A lot of wow, a lot of ready, a lot
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: of zone running in that that goal line sequence, a
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: lot of enthusiasms inside zone, split mid like they were not.
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: That was not pull the guard and come down. He'll
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: let people so that that's interesting. Might get something real
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: going here, as.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Real as you can get in shorts and t shirty
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: in the red zone.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Paul, I'm guessing it's my guess. Yeah, they got tired
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: of working in that red zone. They're gonna start working
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: on this one. I think it'll probably be seven on seven.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: I think the linemen have gone to the inferno.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: So this is the stuff that you're like, do I
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: read too much? Into that.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: Yes, the answer to that for every single one of us.
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: We did every single day.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Paul, it was Dante's Inferno. Now it's the Yates
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: of Hell.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Okay, good one, Fred Workshop, Where did you just come
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: up with that on the fly?
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: I did, Friend's the names guy, Fred's got the names down.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Except for sexual assault with me. That one never started.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Well, I didn't want to get in trouble.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: It's not Clem's corner.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: Clem's corner sounds more like a convenience store.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Right stop. Found a good start.
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: I just hope he does that against everybody and not
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: just Mac.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: It's a good stuff for I mean Douger, like like
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: I know everybody. You know. The hypdream for Dougger is strong.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: But say why it wasn't a good start.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: It's got to be better. And I just said that
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: Douger picked off the first.
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: I didn't throw it up to seem trying to throw
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: it up to see him think it's sticky. And and
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: Kyle Duggar is wearing him like.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: A yeah, top five defense there you go.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: Yeah, look at the bright side.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Yep. Max in the shotgun, oh boy, threw.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: Into a defensive team meeting on that right.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Christian Gonzales and.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: In coverage, not that we're keeping stats, but oh for
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: two for the offense.
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: We are keeping.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: Who was that one intended to?
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: I don't even know.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: All I saw was fifty and forty eight.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: I feel like into a lot of bloom.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: I think it was, but that's what I was trying to.
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: Looked like he came are we forcing to the new
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: guy already? Kendrick Bourne was was wide over.
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: So Parker Smith Schuster here in this set with with
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: two tights.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: This is your base package. This is first and ten time.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: Montgomery a little Montgomery off a nice much nice pick
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: by Hunter Henry touched down. That's the way it's drawn up.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: That's the Patriots bread and butter right there. Yeah, see
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: if it's a little James White route right there.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Yeah, the crowd seems into it.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: You know, Bill talking to Mac a little bit, Well,
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: that absolutely has been something today to uh maybe you
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: know silence, the you know the one, the one guy
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: who keeps saying that that's an issue.
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: That was the to be fair to Greg, that was
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: the most interaction that I've seen Bill and Mack have
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: this entire all up to this point.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: I would agree I just don't think that much of
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: it when you have a you know, we've spent the
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: entirety of the offseason talking about how exciting it is
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: to have a real NFL offensive coordinator that you don't
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: have to worry about. And the Bill maybe spends some
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: time elsewhere and is he avoiding Mac?
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Is there a thing? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: I don't think they're going out for dinner anytime soon.
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: But I'm not necessarily worried about it.
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: Was still going out to dinner with Brady, don't I
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: don't think so, certainly not at the end.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: So last in the spring, when Mac wasn't in the
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: in the play he was off by himself kind of
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: mentally going through reps. Today he's standing right next to O'Brien,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: you know, so it's a little bit different look for
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Mac here when he's not in the play time.
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: Montgomery just makes plays in practice, does make plays two toddies.
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: That's what he does. Look at the tuddies. Nice play,
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: who is that in coverage? Who was didn't have terrible
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: coverage on the player?
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: Was good good throw, good throw, good catch. He was
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: beat but not by not by.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: A ton And he got Zappi with with some rookies
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: and train nicks and still got my company out there though.
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: It's now Jack Jones, you know, is out there part
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: of this group here with a bunch of other you
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: know guys that maybe not in the.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: In the back end.
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: Good shout out there, you know Rodney Randall.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: He's with Yep, we need to keep our eye.
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: Although Phillips was part of that, who was Brad Hawkins
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: I think maybe twenty nine yep. Yeah, So that's a
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: group of you know guys that you wouldn't think necessarily
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: a part of the mix that Jack Jones was whipped
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: on that rep.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: And now you got the trace McSorley.
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: They're going they're going three plays each, Yeah, and who
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: caught that touchdown?
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Fir sure.
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: But when when Bill was talking to Mac, what he's
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: he's talking about is the ballplace on the scene. If
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: if Mac had thrown it up and you know, basically
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: to that that spot above Kasicki, then Duggar wouldn't have
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: had to play on it. But because he threw tried
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: to throw it a little bit underneath him, that that
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: will allowed Dougger to make a play on it.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: It sorely throws one in the ground.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so Mac is standing right next to Billy. Oh.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: I mean not not necessarily man on an island. But again,
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: it's been reps dapts up Mike Kasiki and I think.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Bro to throw it up here.
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: I'm sorry, that's my bad, Bro.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I had you broad lifts perfectly.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: And sixty that's Lumpkin. I got a little eye on Lumpkin.
- 1:12:18Speaker 5: He can block. I mean he looks like a tackle.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: I know, That's what I thought when I saw sixty
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: five and they're pulling out the tackle eligible.
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: They don't. They don't have a blocking tight end like
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: the Hunter Henry and Mikasiki. That's not their thing. And
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: if they're going to carry a third tight end, which
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: I think they probably will.
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: Yeah, and Firksure really isn't that kind of.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: His farmy knife type. Yeah, I really think if there's
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: one guy that can have a game day roll on
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: first and ten from the one yard line.
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: The coverage on the ninth place, the coverage was pretty tight.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Now that was you know, that's probably the most difficult
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: area for an offense to get the ball into the
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: end zone.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: Via the passing game.
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: You know, you're absolutely that's why you start real tight,
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: real tight, like five yard line and in there, and
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: there's not a lot of room.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: But the defense certainly I could coverage on those plays.
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: That's just why I that type of stuff. I just
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: you're running. There's no bells and whistles to any of
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: the red zone plays that maybe the little pick flat
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: play was maybe the one that they kind of drew
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: up something, so to speak. But you're you're just throwing
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: your basic concepts at that point, and there's there's really
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: no space.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Like I don't know, and there's also no thread of
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: the run, right, you know.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I saw Bill spend some time with Steve Belichick and
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: drawed Mayo immediately after that session. Just a good job
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: kind of debrief what um Yeah.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Right, Steve's already spinning the dial.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: So we go in the spring back to a little
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: bit more of the special teams work. Third of the game, Paula,
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: try telling that to Kansas.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Got to do the I gotta figure out what the
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: actual math of that is. What is the actual math
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: of the special teams. It's actually an eighth.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Of the game. If that if you, if you, if
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: you consider the fact that most of the special teams
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: plays are not competitive because they end up being touchbacks.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: It's even less right you have an iron.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: You are you are so right, friend, Yes, so right,
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: that's right. You got to establish the run.
- 1:14:24Speaker 6: They do that, right, we got we gotta run the
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: ball and stop the run.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: Be sound on special teams, Kansas City says, oh man, we're.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: Doing it all wrong.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: If you ply enough pressure, even a rock can become
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: a diamond.
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: Cool Cameron, all right, Yeah, same kind of deal as
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: the first special teams that they're doing some actual punters
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: on the left field with vice guys and gunners, and
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: on the right side kind of more of a simulation
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: with the interior of the protection units, and again same
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: guys returning the punts. Marcus Jones deuces boy Douglas to
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: Mario Douglas.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Is he becoming my boy? I think I think I'll
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: I would take although I think Kevin already called.
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: Him, so I've kind of pivoted.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: I'm pivoting away from him just on pure appearances.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: I'm just gonna keep he little. All the tweets are
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: out about Mac's first passive training camp.
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: Intercepted Did they really tweet that out?
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: What do you mean? Did they really? Of course, I
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: thought we aren't allowed to do that. No, you can
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: because the fans are here. If it's an open to
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: the public practice, you can tweet ther in practice.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: That's a new thing.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: I think it is always It's always been that way.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: Okay, practice, so you know, you you have different rules
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: than that. I wouldn't do that if I were you.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: You'll hear about it. Yeah, well that'll that'll certainly be
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: out after practice too. I'm sure, Mac, what did you
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: see on that play?
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: Something tells me that'll be part of like the the
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: updates on a hourly basis.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: Well, it's I mean, it's it's like everything here, it's uh,
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: you know, I think everybody wants Kyle Dugger to be
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: the guy who gets the extension and you know, is
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: the next long term leader of the Patriots secondary, I guess, And.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: So let's let's let's let's frame it Duggar boys for
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: big year and first play.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: But I think he's he's got to, he's got to.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: I think the coverage is where he needs to make
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: the strides this year. And I mean I certainly had
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: picks last year, and you know it was around the ball,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: but I think there were you know, a couple many
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: too many times that you know, just he didn't have
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: the coverage that he needed. So I think that's where
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: his game needs to take another step this year.
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: I wonder if that's the usage. Like, I just don't
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: love him covering tight ends and man coverage. And I
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: know you have to use him like that sometimes, I suppose,
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: but I would much rather watch him play zone and
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: just play robber rolls or to people sea ball get ball,
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: like doesn't make simplify it for him, like just let
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: them ballhawk, let him chase guys down. Like I just
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: think sometimes when you you put him in that man
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: coverage role, it limits his playmaking a little bit. But
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: when you add that freedom, he all of a sudden
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: has Oh he's you know, interceptions.
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: Like four raiders right, instincts. Instincts and athleticism. These are
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: two things that jump out to me when I when
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: I watch him play.
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: So to Evan's point, let him showcase that.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, looks like the end of the Special
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: Team's portion.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: And this is only what an hour and a half
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: session to day, but yeah.
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: This isn't gonna go This probably isn't going to go
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: much longer.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Wow, that's my fast.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: Me.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Back up, where did they come back inside the twenties?
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: What do you call that pall? That's the red zone
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: or red zone right right going on? It looks like
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: the eight yard line.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: I call it the money zone. Money zone.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: And we got some we got some old linemen here.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: So again Bill Murray, you know, filling in form when
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: you just interesting drafted what three rookies that could all,
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: I guess theoretically play right guard.
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: But I just got to hope that this is a
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: placeholder because they want the rookies to earn the reps
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: and they don't want to just hand one of those
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: guys the job or the camp reps, I guess I
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: should say.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: So, this looks like it's eleven on a little bit
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: eleven eleven team, and it looks like Juju's out there
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: for at least the first rep, which is good.
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: We haven't realy seen him have, you know, a whole
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: lot to do because of the spring Juju.
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: Tall Reek born Hunter Henry.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: So we got.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Eleven and you got Trent Brown. Trent Brown at left tackle.
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: Yeah, that's Trent Strange Andrews, Bill Murray, Robine Reef has been.
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: The yeah and Reef has moved on.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: Jude On. I think might be in the conditioning fields
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: or maybe rehabbing with something, but wonderful jude On. So
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: you got in his spot and inside you got Peppers
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: and Bentley the linebacker spots.
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: To Dugger playing that deep safety in this one.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: I'm sorry, that's Mac Wilson. I get he's three almost picked.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: That was Miles Bryan.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: Taekwon Taekwon.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Love this defense excited.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's uh, you know, I'm I'm not going to.
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: Overreact, but yeah, defense all you know, the defense usually
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: starts at a little bit of a higher point.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: It's easier to destroy than create. Evan, that's my.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: Uh oh, I didn't.
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: Like that, So this is going to be the issue.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: So that was that was supposed to be an r P.
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: But mccatt ain't whole in the flat defender right, Like,
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: nobody is worried about him running around the corner. So
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: josh U J just he faked it and josh j
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: was just hearing anywhere like right.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: So Mac had to kind of pull it down, reverse course,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: go the other way and basically threw it away.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're getting Gonzales, Miles Bryant in the slot
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: and Jay Jones, Yeah, and then the back end is
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: Pepper's and Doug.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: There you go, Juju over the middle.
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: Juju.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: That wasn't his first read though, No, it.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Seemed almost like Mac picked him up late and just
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: kind of checked, kind of checked it.
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: Yeah, the only way they're really getting getting many completions.
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: But it is like it's now you're at the four
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: yard line. This like if you can't run and on
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: these plays, that's really hard to get.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Something or at least the threat of run.
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: I don't mean you don't have the ability, right, you're
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: not good enough to run it in. I mean you
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: feel he can't run the ball?
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you go some nice one, you go.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Pops out.
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: Henry.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: But that looked like that looked like it was supposed
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: to look.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Yep, a cause the little coverage confusions.
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: They've been using, these little splits put the like a
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: stack alignment and then that one. KASICKI was more like
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: the inside guy and Henry was, but they broke the
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: opposite ways and that that confused the coverage.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Time on company out there now, So Bailey zappy time.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: So so you're continuing what three or four reps, three reps. Yea,
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: I got the Feva. Well, I mean, I mean, we
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: know we're watching right now. But if ZAPPI were to
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: throw a bunch of now, that's a good throw right there.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: And a good play.
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: Did he get it or think for dropped it?
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: Yes, he hit him right and bold hands got his
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: hands in there.
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: Evan, please because they always yell at me.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: I think it's a.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: Drop, but that was a good throw.
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: We're not going to see the replay, so I can't
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: tell you, but it looks like a drop.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Zappy suck ups. Oh, I know it was a good throw.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: That was perfect even if it was defended.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Yeah, there was nowhere else to throw it. That's exactly where.
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: But I think he put both both hands on it.
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: Yeah, the same thing.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: It's just yeah, he looked quick to you a boy, Mike,
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: continue with that dog Douglas.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: So do you think that was the same play?
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: And it was a different play, But it's the same
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: problem is that thirty three he can just crash down
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: because he's not afraid of Zappy turning the corner on him,
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: and it just if you leave that guy unblocked, then
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: the quarterback has to occupy that guy.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: So let's take that page out of the playbook.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: He really likes those side throws too. He was trying
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: to mahomes it there look like it?
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: Yeah, care, I mean there's a time and a place
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: for that.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: If the guys who high Jalen heard no idea, Oh yeah, like,
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: how's the out there already?
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: Love it?
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: He can't run, he.
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: Looks Yeah, he's a talented talented place.
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: There's another defensive meeting thrown into.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I know you.
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: You claim that I'm sucking up to Zappi. Yeah right,
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: Zabi just threw the ball in the middle of three
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: blue shirts.
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: Jalen Herd's issue is not talent. That guy just can't
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: stay healthy. He has had significant injury after significant injury.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: But he's fast, he's big.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: He looks good on the hoof. Yeah, he can run.
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: Can you get me this second offensive.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Line here, ro juice, I would be happy to you.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: From left to right if I'm not asking too much.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: It's a so sixty four left tackle and fifty five
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: and left guard.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: There's a little timing, fate, timing rainbow.
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: Say that one they looked like they knocked away. I
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: think it's Marcus Jones right, so.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: I think it was heinz and McDermott at right guard,
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: right tackle and it was stupor.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: And yeah, so, I mean it wasn't a bad pass
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: by Zappy. It was right where it was supposed to be.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: But who was the center defense was right there?
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: I couldn't quite see that one. It's ference right now.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: It's sorely in there now.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: It was probably might have been okay, maybe could have
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: been Matthews.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, it sorely completes the pass about two years
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: two yards out of.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: The end zone.
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: That one needs to be I think on the other shoulder. Yeah,
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: and I think that's one of the ones that Bill.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Will talk about.
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: Yeah, ball placement, see Fred, These uh, these guys won't
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: remember back in the day when when Bill used to
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: do the film sessions with us with the media and
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: you showed the difference between Joe Montana and Steve Young,
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: that throw right there by Joe Montana would have been
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: perfectly on the outside shoulder.
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: Roger Craig would have caught it turned.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: Into the end zone.
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: With Steve Young, it's in the middle or to the
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: inside shoulder, causing a slight hesitation and allowing a linebacker
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: to make a tackle. There's a run play in the
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: red zone.
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: Did he actually do that?
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: Did Bill say that?
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: Did the film?
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: The film thing?
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: Oh yeah, they showed the two plays. This is the difference.
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: This is why we always thought differently of Steve Young
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: than Joe Montana.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: Wasn't just because he was a left to.
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Which I was triumphant, because I always thought Steve Young
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: was one of the most overrated guys of his era.
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: That's actually funny because tuas like throwing motion always looks a.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: Little bit like yeah, but if somebody like reversed saw that,
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: it looks totally normal, right.
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: Totally normal when he throws it right.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it is true. Left he is a weird Paul,
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: I know, I know, guy. We were meant to be pictures,
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: not quarterbacks.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: Oh, time out, time out? Bledsoe didn't like the workers disgusted.
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: They're already doing these little running back motions though, right,
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: like start them out wide, motion them back into the backfield.
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: Sean Wade, Yes.
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: And he was covering Rally Webb.
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: And in his defense Rolly we caught a lot of
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: passes in the springs active.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: In the active defense owning the day so far.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: It's interesting to me because it feels like the kicking
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: kind of goes on on the side of all these
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: practices and you don't really usually clock all of it.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: It feels like a lot of that competition it's just
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: going to kind of be happening in the background during
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: training camp. I mean, everybody knows the end of practice,
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: they'll they'll line it up and we'll see, you know,
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: how many they hit. But a lot going on on
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: the side with the kickers.
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: Keon White, is it. I can't tell the difference between
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: Keon White and Ronnie Perkins and that bother that booty.
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: Yeah, uh, Perkins I think has a little bit of
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: the white jersey hanging out the bottom.
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: That was a pretty. That's the first time I think
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: in a long time I've noticed Ronnie Perkins off the
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: ball rushing the quarterback.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: He and always have that like that lighter jersey hanging out.
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: That was a pretty. That was a pretty good pass
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: rush there.
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: Yet, Yeah, he's getting some uh, some kudos from one
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: of the way out of.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: My range ones back end. That's like what kind of
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: so two tight ends.
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: Christian Gonzales just outside corner day.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: One fixture with Jonathan Jones outside.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: You know, again for the this is now the third
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: time that they've been out there, and this is the
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: two corners that have started every every one today.
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: You know, is that Stevenson andre on Chris Ford, Chris
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: Bard gets the gives up the touchdown.
- 1:27:52Speaker 6: I should say that gets the touchdown.
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: That was good though that pocket was a little bit
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: muddy and he just kind of stepped up and hit
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: the angle route.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what stood up to me about Mac when
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: we first saw him in those early days of twenty
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: twenty one. It just he always looked comfortable in those
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: early practices, kept his eyes downfield, and you know, I
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: wasn't really concerned with the rush as a rookie, which
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: you know was his contrast for me having watched.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Stidham, Yeah, it looked like he was. That's the one
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: thing you see with these young quarterbacks. They just they're
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: not decisive. They pull it down.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: That's a dead play.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: So that was an awesome play by Christian Gonzalez. So
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: they ran like a banjo. So the two inside receivers,
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: one ran to the left, one ran to the right,
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: and instead of trying to travel or follow them, Miles
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: Brian and Christian Gonzalez just switched and when that was seamless,
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: like Christian Gonzalez had it perfectly, Like I expect Miles
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: Brian to know what to do, but like Christian Gonzalez
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: doing that right away is a really good signing. Miles
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: Brian dapped him up after that, like as day one rookie. Like,
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: that's a hard art assignment to get down.
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: I'm glad you watched the coverage because I watched the
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: blitz from the top with peppers and he got there
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: effortlessly and toasted on that one would have been a
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: strip sack. But that's where the coverage needs to be
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: there because there's a chance. Now that happened really fast,
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: so I don't know if he could, but there's a
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: chance that Okay, we know this guy's coming, he's going
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: to be unblocked. I got to get it out immediately.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: And if they're not doing what Evan just said, you
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: know you're able to get the pass off anyway. Despite
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: the blitz working.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: That just hit Hunter Henry in the back.
- 1:29:31Speaker 5: He just got burned in the next place.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Well, it's got shook at the top of the rout
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: and rookie rookies. Nice little hesitation move by by Hunter
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: Henry to get loose for Mac here.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: That had no chance.
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: But that one was a good throw, Like throw it
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: high to the outside, it's going to be incomplete or
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: or his guy's going to make.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: A great catch.
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: All right, not bad, you know, I as opposed to
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: the last time when we were talking about the one
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: that Dougger undercut. Now this is a different route. This
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: is a fade to the outside. But didn't throw it
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: low where it could get in trouble.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: Paul, it looks like fifty three Jake Andrews will be
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: your second center, So you think he was probably out
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: there before.
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: I okay, a little bit better that. Yeah, that go
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: around I thought from Mac.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. We'll wait till the end
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: to make anything definitive about Oh nice cat.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't the greatest pass.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Now they had a lot I'll tell you, it's just
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: a lot of blue jerseys around.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Yea.
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: The ball that Matt Circle would have gotten blown up
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: if you could have hit him. They all went for
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: the ball because you can't hit anybody.
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: So so second group we got, yeah, Jack Jones and
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: Marcus Jones, Christian Barmore, Daniel Quale, Anthony Jennings. It looks
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: like Ke and White still getting some But see now
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: this is kind of where I thought more where we
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: see White, and I do believe that is Key on
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: White but kind of playing more of the Detrich Why's
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: hand down right? Defensive time?
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: Montgomery three tds?
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: Who can it?
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: Someone tell me who the guy is on the sideline
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: with the blue polo shirt, white hair. He's on the
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: defensive sideline. He's got like a pad of paper in
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: front of him.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: To the looks like he's record for the Daily Bugle.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, who is this guy?
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: I saw him earlier taking pictures with his camera phone
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: from the gates of the Yates of Hell.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: I'm wondering if he's someone they brought in, uh to
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: kind of help with the defense. I don't know.
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: He's on the defensive side.
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: Yeah, he's He's on the about the twelve thirteen yard
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: line on our side.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: I got yeah, I got you.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: He's got a shorts and a polo blue polo, and
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: he has a pad of paper in his hand.
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I see a notebook.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: Of some sort.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: He could be one of the from the referee.
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, it could be for NFL p A.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it could be an observer or something. Yeah against Yeah, oh.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: Nothing there for Zappy trying to connect with Mario.
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: It's gonna be interesting to see if some of these
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: moving pocket things that they have been doing, those edge
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: defenders are just all over the quarterbacks. You know, it's
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: day one, but so those are things I don't know.
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: For a couple of weeks ago, they on NFL Network
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: they were playing some highlights of Max Crosby and do
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: you remember the play? It gets forgotten because of all
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: the nonsense that happened with the lateral and everything, but
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: Patriots were up by a touchdown and had the ball.
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: You're talking about the third down play where they try
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: to run a naked boot.
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: Yes, and it worked. Yeah, and it worked.
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: It fooled everybody, and Max Crosby so easily ran down
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: Mac Jones ten yards short of the first down and
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: it didn't matter.
- 1:33:14Speaker 6: That's the kind of stuff that I'm thinking about. Like
- 1:33:16Speaker 6: to Fred's point, I know, Fred, you will.
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: Being a little tongue in cheek when you're like, maybe
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: we want to put that one away. Maybe they want
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: to put that one away. I don't really think there
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: were a lot of edge guys that are going to
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: be bothered by that, even when they get tricked.
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: Yeah. I just remember Scar talking about it with Brady
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: and he said that, you know, they were taught. It
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: was last year when all the wide zone stuff was
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: going on. In that conversation and he was like, look,
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: we didn't really feature that as much in our offense
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: because Brady wasn't very good on the bootlegs and if
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: you can't run boot off of it. I remember Dante
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: said that it's really you know, that's really what you're
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: trying to get to is the play action with the bootlegs,
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: you know, the Shanahan stuff, And if you don't have
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: a quarterback that throws well on the move or as
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: an athlete on the move, then it's really not as
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: effective as it is if you have somebody that can
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: run around a little bit. So they just didn't do
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: it because Brady wasn't comfortable throwing off the bootlegs. So
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: I agree. I think it's something that we've seen a
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: little bit of today that that maybe we see a
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: little bit that was This was always the reason.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Why I didn't really buy Kyle Shanahan want Mac Jones
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: of three overall, like that's that's not a scam. Yeah,
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: Johnny Lumpkin can't hold on. I do believe that last
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: play though, was makes it for TDS for time on
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: Comy today.
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: So Montgomery's on fire.
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: I always like when you set something up at the
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: top of the show and then lo and behold book
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: what happened?
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: Will anyone dare right today? Offense struggling under Bill O'Brien.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Oh, somebody will, somebody will.
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: I mean I think they could finish the season with
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: less points than he did last year, or no one.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: Will write that. Yeah, I mean, I I just remember
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: last year it was all you know, contested catches in
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: these drules and it hasn't been great missing out on
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Hopkins dooms offense. But I think they made a couple
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: of plays and you know this, Max had a couple
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: of throws. But you know, first day of camp, I
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: don't think it's it's as concerning as last year.
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: It was kind of Yeah, I mean the couple throws
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: at me to Hunter Henry and the little ankle route
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: Urmandre like that stuff. You're gonna have in your in
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: your in your bag, and I thought like, just just as.
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: A refresher, I sort of went over the stuff that
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: we were writing last year early and the very first
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: day was okay, yeah, it was beyond that that. It's
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: like they never had a good day again. And it
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: wasn't even red zones. It was stuff in the middle
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: of the field.
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: No, no, no, it was that stuff that just did
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: like no.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: No, no, I'm talking about when we said this doesn't
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: look right. Oh, it was it was everything with every
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: stuff in the middle of the field.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, field goals. Might this be the end? Yeah?
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: This is probably about this from the well.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: We should be noting who's kicking.
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: It's the eighteen yard line, Nick Middle. For Nick Folk,
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: everybody on a twenty eight yarder from the middle, snap down,
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: kick up, ain't true? Good, back them up, increase the voltage.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: Here we go. It looks like this one's gonna be
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: about the twenty nines, about thirty nine yards. Also, Nick Folk,
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: this is meanwhile, you've got a shadow with the rookie
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: Ryland kind of running, not kicking it, but snapping it
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: and ate from the right hash it looks good to me,
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: looked good interesting. Is it interesting though? That? No, that's
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: fifty nine right. So Dietrich wise very enthusiastically signaling good
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: at that kick. That's what he likes to do. So
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: Baringer is holding twenty words. Baringer is holding for Folk
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: while Weightman is.
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: You know, they're kind of doing thirty eight from the
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: left hash and you said Barunger has been the holding.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: Does that give him a leg up on the punting? Uh?
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's uh, you know those little observations
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: weightments holding on the other side for Ryland is there,
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: I guess just kind of listening to drive running at
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: the call as well.
- 1:37:19Speaker 6: I'm not gonna meander our way out now.
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: Thirty five, six, seven, eight, forty eight yards going in
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: ten yard increments today, snap his down right, hash.
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: Snap down, wall down, kick us up.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: In plenty of leg.
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: You know you're oh there you go, Thank you, Ditrich,
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: Hey you do it again. Yep, appreciate you.
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: That's an extra large in that Arkansas man quarter.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: Zip. He's just that you promising me for four years.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: Moved to the other hash.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, still from the forty eight from the left
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: hash and this one.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: Look good.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Did not see anybody signal on that one, Dietrick Wis
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: has got the two up. I don't know, okay. I
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: wonder though, because it looks a little bit more celebratory
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: than necessarily, like, you know, you need tight signals as
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: a referee toy thing. I'm a referee, you know.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: Back to the other hash now still at thirty uh,
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: still at the thirty eight so forty eight yards huh.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: That's funny sticking it for forty eight. Oh, it's a
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: fun That's why it was funny. That's why it was funny.
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: We got problems.
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: The holder, this Bryce Barrener. Yeah, and he has wheels.
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: I've seen that.
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: Did he run out the combine? I feel like he did.
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: That's Matthew Showalter.
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: For those of you that like those Thanksgiving announcing clips
- 1:38:55Speaker 4: on ninety eight five, the sports go.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: Man, you go, man, you go.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: So we're gonna get our boy Rylan a chance or.
- 1:39:04Speaker 6: Maybe another day, maybe another day.
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: It's like a caged animal. He's getting ready to get
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: How do you guys feel about that? You think there's
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: any chance that Folk is the kicker and Ryland.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: Is the kick off guy?
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: I hope not. You know, I've roster spot on two kickers.
- 1:39:21Speaker 6: I hope not too.
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: I do wonder if look, they love to play those
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: games with the fifty three, And I do wonder if
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: both guys make it initially just to try to sneak
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: toract this squad.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: Can you put folk on the practice squad?
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: That's probably they could get because you know, with waivers,
- 1:39:41Speaker 5: it's like they're going.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: To do some conditioning.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: Run here, yeah, this is it, This is it?
