January 8 - The Love That Corrects and Transforms · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 8th.
• 0:09
Loved enough to be corrected. Nobody enjoys being corrected.
• 0:13
It can feel embarrassing, frustrating, or even hurtful.
• 0:17
Maybe it's a parent calling out an attitude you didn't think was
• 0:19
a big deal, a coach pointing out where you're falling short, or a
• 0:23
moment when something you hear in church hits a little too
• 0:25
close to home. Correction has a way of making
• 0:28
us feel exposed. Our instinct is often to defend
• 0:31
ourselves, shut down, or pull away.
• 0:34
But what if correction isn't a sign of rejection at all?
• 0:37
What if it's actually proof of love?
• 0:39
Proverbs chapter 3, verses 11 to 12 reframes the whole idea.
• 0:44
My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of
• 0:47
his reproof. For the Lord reproves him whom
• 0:49
he loves as a father, the Son, and whom he delights.
• 0:53
God doesn't correct you because He's disappointed in you.
• 0:56
He corrects you because he delights in you.
• 0:59
He sees who you're becoming, not just who you are right now.
• 1:02
His love doesn't stop at saving you, it keeps working to shape
• 1:05
you. That shaping shows up clearly in
• 1:07
Matthew chapter 5 where Jesus describes what a life aligned
• 1:11
with God actually looks like. He says blessed are the meek,
• 1:15
for they shall inherit the earth.
• 1:17
Meekness isn't weakness, it's strength under control.
• 1:20
It's choosing humility over ego. Then Jesus says blessed are the
• 1:24
pure in heart, for they shall see God.
• 1:26
  Purity isn't about perfection. It's about a heart that's
• 1:29
willing to be cleaned, refined, and aligned with God's truth.
• 1:33
And he adds, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be
• 1:35
called sons of God. Peacemaking takes effort.
• 1:39
It often means swallowing pride, letting go of the need to be
• 1:42
right, and choosing love over drama.
• 1:44
None of these qualities grow naturally on their own.
• 1:47
They're formed through moments where God gently and sometimes
• 1:50
firmly corrects us, through conviction, through
• 1:53
uncomfortable honesty, through learning to listen instead of
• 1:57
  resist. God's correction isn't
• 1:59
punishment, it's preparation. He's shaping your heart so your
• 2:03
life can reflect His character. So the next time you feel that
• 2:06
nudge in your spirit, that quiet conviction, or that loving
• 2:09
challenge, don't run from it. Lean in.
• 2:12
That may be your Heavenly Father saying you matter too much to
• 2:15
leave you where you are. Let's pray.
• 2:17
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me enough to correct me.
• 2:21
Help me not to resist your discipline or grow weary of your
• 2:24
guidance. Shape my heart to be meek, pure,
• 2:26
and committed to peace. Give me humility to listen,
• 2:29
courage to change, and grace to grow into who you're calling me
• 2:32
to be in Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
• 2:37
more is actually God calling you deeper?

Proverbs Chapter 3 verses 11 to 12 World English Bible My son,
• 4:03
don't despise Yahweh's discipline, neither be weary of
• 4:06
his correction. For whom Yahweh loves, He
• 4:08
corrects, even as a father reproves the Son in whom he
• 4:11
delights. Matthew Chapter 5 World English
• 4:14
Bible Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain.
• 4:18
When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
• 4:21
He opened his mouth and taught them, saying, Blessed are the
• 4:24
poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
• 4:27
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
• 4:30
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
• 4:33
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for
• 4:36
they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for
• 4:39
they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart,
• 4:41
for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for
• 4:45
they shall be called children of God.
• 4:46
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness
• 4:49
sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
• 4:52
Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and
• 4:55
say all kinds of evil against you falsely For my sake.
• 4:58
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in
• 5:02
heaven, for that is how they persecuted the prophets who were
• 5:05
before you. You are the salt of the earth,
• 5:08
but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be
• 5:11
salted? It is then good for nothing but
• 5:13
to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
• 5:16
You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't
• 5:20
be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and
• 5:22
put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand, and it shines to
• 5:26
all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine
• 5:29
before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your
• 5:32
Father who is in heaven. Don't think that I came to
• 5:35
destroy the law or the prophets. I didn't come to destroy, but to
• 5:39
fulfill. For most certainly, I tell you,
• 5:42
until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest
• 5:45
letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from
• 5:48
the law until all things are accomplished.
• 5:51
Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments
• 5:54
and teach others to do so shall be called least in the Kingdom
• 5:57
of heaven. But whoever shall do and teach
• 6:00
them shall be called great in the Kingdom of heaven.
• 6:03
For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of
• 6:05
the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into
• 6:09
the Kingdom of heaven. You have heard that it was said
• 6:11
to the ancient ones. You shall not murder, and
• 6:15
whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.
• 6:18
But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother
• 6:20
without a cause will be in danger of the judgment.
• 6:23
Whoever says to his brother Raqqa will be in danger of the
• 6:27
council. Whoever says you fool will be in
• 6:30
danger of the fire of Gehenna. If, therefore, you are offering
• 6:33
your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has
• 6:36
anything against you. Leave your gift there before the
• 6:39
altar and go your way. First be reconciled to your
• 6:42
brother, and then come and offer your gift.
• 6:45
Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him
• 6:47
on the way, lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the
• 6:51
judge and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast
• 6:55
into prison. Most certainly, I tell you, you
• 6:57
shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the
• 7:00
last penny. You have heard that it was said
• 7:03
you shall not commit adultery, but I tell you that everyone who
• 7:07
gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with
• 7:10
her already in his heart. If your right eye causes you to
• 7:13
stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you, for it is more
• 7:17
profitable for you that one of your members should perish, then
• 7:20
for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
• 7:23
If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it
• 7:27
away from you, for it is more profitable for you that one of
• 7:30
your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast
• 7:33
into Gehenna. It was also said, Whoever shall
• 7:36
put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce.
• 7:40
But I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the
• 7:43
cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress, and
• 7:46
whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.
• 7:50
Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones.
• 7:53
You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord
• 7:55
your vows. But I tell you, don't swear at
• 7:58
all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God, nor by the
• 8:02
earth, for it is the footstool of his feet, nor by Jerusalem,
• 8:06
for it is the city of the great King.
• 8:08
Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can't make one
• 8:11
hair white or black. But let your yes be yes, and
• 8:14
your no be no. Whatever is more than these is
• 8:17
of the evil. 1 You have heard that it was said an eye for an
• 8:20
eye, and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you, don't resist him
• 8:24
who is evil, but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to
• 8:27
him the other. Also, if anyone sues you to take
• 8:30
away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
• 8:33
Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him too.
• 8:36
Give to him who asks you and don't turn away him who desires
• 8:39
to borrow from you. You have heard that it was said
• 8:42
you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
• 8:44
But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse
• 8:47
you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who
• 8:50
mistreat you and persecute you, that you may be children of your
• 8:53
Father who is in heaven. For he makes his Son to rise on
• 8:56
the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
• 9:01
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?
• 9:04
Don't even the tax collectors do the same?
• 9:06
If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others?
• 9:10
Don't even the tax collectors do the same.
• 9:12
Therefore, you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is
• 9:16
perfect. Thanks for joining us on Bible
