Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 8th.
- 0:09Loved enough to be corrected. Nobody enjoys being corrected.
- 0:13It can feel embarrassing, frustrating, or even hurtful.
- 0:17Maybe it's a parent calling out an attitude you didn't think was
- 0:19a big deal, a coach pointing out where you're falling short, or a
- 0:23moment when something you hear in church hits a little too
- 0:25close to home. Correction has a way of making
- 0:28us feel exposed. Our instinct is often to defend
- 0:31ourselves, shut down, or pull away.
- 0:34But what if correction isn't a sign of rejection at all?
- 0:37What if it's actually proof of love?
- 0:39Proverbs chapter 3, verses 11 to 12 reframes the whole idea.
- 0:44My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of
- 0:47his reproof. For the Lord reproves him whom
- 0:49he loves as a father, the Son, and whom he delights.
- 0:53God doesn't correct you because He's disappointed in you.
- 0:56He corrects you because he delights in you.
- 0:59He sees who you're becoming, not just who you are right now.
- 1:02His love doesn't stop at saving you, it keeps working to shape
- 1:05you. That shaping shows up clearly in
- 1:07Matthew chapter 5 where Jesus describes what a life aligned
- 1:11with God actually looks like. He says blessed are the meek,
- 1:15for they shall inherit the earth.
- 1:17Meekness isn't weakness, it's strength under control.
- 1:20It's choosing humility over ego. Then Jesus says blessed are the
- 1:24pure in heart, for they shall see God.
- 1:26Purity isn't about perfection. It's about a heart that's
- 1:29willing to be cleaned, refined, and aligned with God's truth.
- 1:33And he adds, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be
- 1:35called sons of God. Peacemaking takes effort.
- 1:39It often means swallowing pride, letting go of the need to be
- 1:42right, and choosing love over drama.
- 1:44None of these qualities grow naturally on their own.
- 1:47They're formed through moments where God gently and sometimes
- 1:50firmly corrects us, through conviction, through
- 1:53uncomfortable honesty, through learning to listen instead of
- 1:57resist. God's correction isn't
- 1:59punishment, it's preparation. He's shaping your heart so your
- 2:03life can reflect His character. So the next time you feel that
- 2:06nudge in your spirit, that quiet conviction, or that loving
- 2:09challenge, don't run from it. Lean in.
- 2:12That may be your Heavenly Father saying you matter too much to
- 2:15leave you where you are. Let's pray.
- 2:17Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me enough to correct me.
- 2:21Help me not to resist your discipline or grow weary of your
- 2:24guidance. Shape my heart to be meek, pure,
- 2:26and committed to peace. Give me humility to listen,
- 2:29courage to change, and grace to grow into who you're calling me
- 2:32to be in Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
- 2:37more is actually God calling you deeper?

- 3:57Proverbs Chapter 3 verses 11 to 12 World English Bible My son,
- 4:03don't despise Yahweh's discipline, neither be weary of
- 4:06his correction. For whom Yahweh loves, He
- 4:08corrects, even as a father reproves the Son in whom he
- 4:11delights. Matthew Chapter 5 World English
- 4:14Bible Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain.
- 4:18When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
- 4:21He opened his mouth and taught them, saying, Blessed are the
- 4:24poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
- 4:27Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
- 4:30Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
- 4:33Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for
- 4:36they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for
- 4:39they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart,
- 4:41for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for
- 4:45they shall be called children of God.
- 4:46Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness
- 4:49sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
- 4:52Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and
- 4:55say all kinds of evil against you falsely For my sake.
- 4:58Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in
- 5:02heaven, for that is how they persecuted the prophets who were
- 5:05before you. You are the salt of the earth,
- 5:08but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be
- 5:11salted? It is then good for nothing but
- 5:13to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
- 5:16You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't
- 5:20be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and
- 5:22put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand, and it shines to
- 5:26all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine
- 5:29before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your
- 5:32Father who is in heaven. Don't think that I came to
- 5:35destroy the law or the prophets. I didn't come to destroy, but to
- 5:39fulfill. For most certainly, I tell you,
- 5:42until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest
- 5:45letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from
- 5:48the law until all things are accomplished.
- 5:51Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments
- 5:54and teach others to do so shall be called least in the Kingdom
- 5:57of heaven. But whoever shall do and teach
- 6:00them shall be called great in the Kingdom of heaven.
- 6:03For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of
- 6:05the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into
- 6:09the Kingdom of heaven. You have heard that it was said
- 6:11to the ancient ones. You shall not murder, and
- 6:15whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.
- 6:18But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother
- 6:20without a cause will be in danger of the judgment.
- 6:23Whoever says to his brother Raqqa will be in danger of the
- 6:27council. Whoever says you fool will be in
- 6:30danger of the fire of Gehenna. If, therefore, you are offering
- 6:33your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has
- 6:36anything against you. Leave your gift there before the
- 6:39altar and go your way. First be reconciled to your
- 6:42brother, and then come and offer your gift.
- 6:45Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him
- 6:47on the way, lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the
- 6:51judge and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast
- 6:55into prison. Most certainly, I tell you, you
- 6:57shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the
- 7:00last penny. You have heard that it was said
- 7:03you shall not commit adultery, but I tell you that everyone who
- 7:07gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with
- 7:10her already in his heart. If your right eye causes you to
- 7:13stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you, for it is more
- 7:17profitable for you that one of your members should perish, then
- 7:20for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
- 7:23If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it
- 7:27away from you, for it is more profitable for you that one of
- 7:30your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast
- 7:33into Gehenna. It was also said, Whoever shall
- 7:36put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce.
- 7:40But I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the
- 7:43cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress, and
- 7:46whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.
- 7:50Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones.
- 7:53You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord
- 7:55your vows. But I tell you, don't swear at
- 7:58all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God, nor by the
- 8:02earth, for it is the footstool of his feet, nor by Jerusalem,
- 8:06for it is the city of the great King.
- 8:08Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can't make one
- 8:11hair white or black. But let your yes be yes, and
- 8:14your no be no. Whatever is more than these is
- 8:17of the evil. 1 You have heard that it was said an eye for an
- 8:20eye, and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you, don't resist him
- 8:24who is evil, but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to
- 8:27him the other. Also, if anyone sues you to take
- 8:30away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
- 8:33Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him too.
- 8:36Give to him who asks you and don't turn away him who desires
- 8:39to borrow from you. You have heard that it was said
- 8:42you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
- 8:44But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse
- 8:47you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who
- 8:50mistreat you and persecute you, that you may be children of your
- 8:53Father who is in heaven. For he makes his Son to rise on
- 8:56the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
- 9:01For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?
- 9:04Don't even the tax collectors do the same?
- 9:06If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others?
- 9:10Don't even the tax collectors do the same.
- 9:12Therefore, you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is
- 9:16perfect. Thanks for joining us on Bible
- 9:20Chat, where Scripture meets everyday life.
