- 0:33Welcome to the drive thru episode 15.
- 0:36This is our monthly recap where we've put together many of automotive,
- 0:39motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:41Now let's pull up to the window for some automotive news.
- 0:44That's right, everybody.
- 0:44Donovan's back and congratulations first up to Brad and his wife.
- 0:52For having their little baby boy delivered this week as we're recording.
- 0:56So Donovan has graciously come to fill in for Brad while he is now
- 1:00officially on paternity leave.
- 1:02So Donovan, thanks again for coming on the drive through and let's jump into it.
- 1:05Awesome.
- 1:06So this month we are going to kick off with something we don't normally do.
- 1:09We're talking about Japanese cars.
- 1:11First up, the new Civic Type R.
- 1:14I took a look at this.
- 1:16I think the camo is super interesting.
- 1:18That's about the most interesting part of this car.
- 1:20And it's got a new wing.
- 1:22Aren't we excited?
- 1:23But in reality, when I looked at this new Type R, there's really not
- 1:26a whole lot of words to put around it, other than the fact that I see it
- 1:30as foreshadowing of the new Integra.
- 1:34I thought the Civic was sunsetted.
- 1:36I thought they were done with it.
- 1:37That's
- 1:37where I was going with this.
- 1:38We said that like two or three months ago that they were done with the Civic.
- 1:41Maybe that was just the two door Civic?
- 1:44Because it has a different name when it gets here.
- 1:46Maybe it's not going to be called the Civic anymore.
- 1:47Because there's this Type R, which is a sedan.
- 1:50And there's also the 2022 Civic SI four door that's coming out.
- 1:55So that's two civics.
- 1:57When I thought we were done with Civic,
- 1:59I am gonna fact check that, but I guarantee about three episodes
- 2:03ago we said the Civic was no more,
- 2:05but if you're getting 25, 30 5K over sticker on the special editions,
- 2:09you're gonna keep making them, right?
- 2:10I
- 2:10suppose so.
- 2:11But the two-Door Civic, and the Hatchback Civic.
- 2:14Look like they're no longer available.
- 2:16So this four door Civic, I mean, the more I look at it, especially that
- 2:19nose, the more I see the new Integra.
- 2:23Is that the line?
- 2:23Is that the pitch line?
- 2:24Yeah, yeah.
- 2:25Integra.
- 2:26I love, absolutely love the camo.
- 2:28I can't stop looking at it.
- 2:29It's really appealing compared to the normal black and white.
- 2:32Something about the red, but red also throws off your depth perception.
- 2:35So it's really hard at certain angles of the pictures to really discern what it is.
- 2:39I feel like the front end looks more like a skyline.
- 2:42Oh, interesting.
- 2:43I could see that.
- 2:44I could definitely see that.
- 2:45R 32, whichever one it is.
- 2:46I don't remember the numbers.
- 2:47You know, one of of those type of skylines, like that's
- 2:50what that front looks like.
- 2:52There's nothing about this that says civic to me though, and I don't know.
- 2:55You know, like with all the brands, right?
- 2:57You see a BMW short of the new hideous S, but you know, and you're
- 3:01like, oh, those are all BMWs.
- 3:02Or you see an Audi, like those are all Audis.
- 3:04Like this car to me doesn't look like.
- 3:07Anything and not in a good way.
- 3:08Like I don't recognize this.
- 3:09If you took the badge off, granted it's camouflaged, but I wouldn't recognize
- 3:12it as a Honda or I don't know what in that bolt on wing from 20 years ago.
- 3:18Fast and furious is
- 3:19why are we keeping that stuff around?
- 3:21Can somebody explain it to me?
- 3:23I feel like that's a type R thing.
- 3:24The wings have gotten audacious in the last several iterations.
- 3:28They've just been ridiculous.
- 3:30Even
- 3:30like that because Subaru doesn't make stupid wings anymore
- 3:33because they make sedans now.
- 3:34But the difference is, you know, usually they're like molded
- 3:37pieces, very nice looking.
- 3:38This looks like they ran out of time and they were like, just go
- 3:41down the auto zone and grab what you can find and bolt it onto the back
- 3:44of the car with the scaffolding.
- 3:45Back in our day, it was order from the JC Whitney catalog.
- 3:48Now it's just going to
- 3:49say, yeah, right.
- 3:51Just like we talked about last month with the new WRX and the WRX SDIs and all that,
- 3:55they were starting to look Honda esque.
- 3:57Maybe Honda had to make a quick change so people would stop comparing
- 4:00the new Impreza to the Civic.
- 4:02I don't know, because if you look at the SI version that's coming out, which is
- 4:06not in camo or anything, the shot from the rear end, It's an Acura call it the
- 4:10next, whatever Acura, no, it doesn't look like an Integra, but it looks like it
- 4:16could be any other Acura from the rear, from the front, I think it's going to
- 4:20have the same front end as this type R type R is going to have the same front end
- 4:24as the SI, which should come out sooner.
- 4:27I'm not seeing any spectacular numbers either.
- 4:29I mean, I'm guessing it's going to be the same 300 ish horsepower turbo
- 4:33four cylinder that there's been in the type R for a couple of years now.
- 4:37So.
- 4:38I mean, I've ridden in one of the new Civics.
- 4:39They're not gentle on my eyes.
- 4:41I'm not a big fan of the way they look.
- 4:43They've been kind of weird for a while now, but as a performer,
- 4:46keeping with front wheel drive, it is really, really good.
- 4:49I would say, and this is, this company means a lot coming from me.
- 4:53It's better than the GTI and I have my issues with the GTI, but in reality.
- 4:58Both the Civic and the Veloster N having been in the right seat of both
- 5:03of these cars as front wheel drives, evolving that technology, they're
- 5:06really, really good out of the box.
- 5:08Is there something extra special about the C pillar on these cars?
- 5:12Because I noticed they've disguised The little kink in the back, for some
- 5:15reason, does that give it more horsepower?
- 5:17It's where you put the stickers.
- 5:18That's the sticker reserved for, I see.
- 5:20That's a big claim though.
- 5:21Better than the GTI, but you know, it's been a while since I've been in a
- 5:24GTI, you know, I wonder if it's a case where Honda is doing something special.
- 5:29So they really want to wring all the performance out of it, where
- 5:31GTI is kind of table stakes, right?
- 5:32It's there.
- 5:33Kind of Mustang GT and it's just like what it is, if they would do, and
- 5:38I'm not aware of any special edition GTIs, maybe they would do that too.
- 5:41Are
- 5:41there any?
- 5:42Well, the Golf R, the Golf R.
- 5:43So yeah, but
- 5:44still kind of similar.
- 5:45Like if there was like a super special limited edition GTI or
- 5:48Golf R or something that would be.
- 5:49No,
- 5:49no, we don't do that anymore.
- 5:51They used to have the Fahrenheit editions and all this kind of stuff
- 5:53that that's, that's, we don't do that.
- 5:55It's too, too risqué for the Germans now.
- 5:57I will give them that.
- 5:58I'm impressed.
- 5:59That the SI, and I guess I would assume the type R will as well
- 6:03is keeping a manual transmission.
- 6:05Yes.
- 6:05That's the big news about the new Integra is that it's going to have
- 6:09the 6 speed manual because it's a Civic and the Civic has a manual.
- 6:12So I mean, they're not saying it, but let's face it.
- 6:15They're going to share the same chassis, the same platform.
- 6:18Maybe the Acura gets lucky and it gets all wheel drive or something
- 6:21different, but that's going to add.
- 6:23to 500 pounds if they go down that route.
- 6:25I mean, I'm just speculating here a little bit, but I will say just really
- 6:29quick before we talk a little bit more about the Integra, I relooked at the
- 6:32Civic Type R and immediately my mind went to mid 2000s Nissan Sentra SER.
- 6:39That's the front end.
- 6:40Interesting.
- 6:41Going back to the Integra for just a moment, This new spy photo of the
- 6:46rear end, I'm really disappointed compared to the copper car that we
- 6:50talked about a couple episodes back.
- 6:51It's starting to look like a Infiniti G37 from behind.
- 6:55I am not a fan of that.
- 6:57I wasn't a fan of it on those cars and I don't think it's the right
- 7:00move for this Integra either.
- 7:01That is weird.
- 7:02That's exactly what I thought of too.
- 7:03When I saw that, has there been a full reveal of the entire car yet?
- 7:06I've only seen bits and pieces of it.
- 7:07No, it's all these renderings from different angles.
- 7:10And the only one that looked like a full car was that copper one that
- 7:14we talked about on the last episode.
- 7:15Yeah.
- 7:15That's going to be interesting if it is a surprise.
- 7:18It's the G 35 from 15 years ago.
- 7:21It's going to be, it's just smaller now.
- 7:24That's going to be disappointing.
- 7:25Is it
- 7:25though?
- 7:25Or is it the size of an Accord?
- 7:27That's what we really want to know.
- 7:28Right?
- 7:29I mean, I'm, I'm not trying to throw stones because the jet is as big
- 7:32as a Passat, so whatever, right?
- 7:34They're all getting bigger.
- 7:35I guess there's other news from Honda this month.
- 7:38Apparently they're going to, I guess they're going to follow in the steps
- 7:40of like BMW, how BMW has their i series for their electric platform, Honda
- 7:46is going to have an EV sub brand.
- 7:49But I don't think it's coming to America.
- 7:52Sounds like it'll stay in Asia.
- 7:53ENE,
- 7:54colon, n
- 7:57, . What does that mean?
- 8:00Did Elon and Grimes name this thing is, is that word do not just
- 8:04letters and symbols and stuff?
- 8:05Well,
- 8:05it does sort of look like.
- 8:06Maybe Elon helped them design it.
- 8:08So I will always call these the E colon.
- 8:12You know, the thing that as soon as I see the picture of these, though, it
- 8:15frustrates me because you know, they're not gonna look anything like this.
- 8:17And I will give Tesla credit for that, right?
- 8:19The Tesla truck, when you first saw that, you're like, yeah, that's just a concept.
- 8:22They're never going to build it.
- 8:23They actually are.
- 8:23But these.
- 8:24They're not going to build these, but I will say kind of something we
- 8:27talked about the last time I was on the podcast with you guys was, you know, we
- 8:30talked about EVs and where can they go?
- 8:33Right?
- 8:33They're only going to get so fast.
- 8:35You're going to have grocery getters.
- 8:36They're all going to do 3 seconds.
- 8:37You're a 60s top speeds, not a factor anymore.
- 8:40I think styling is where it's at.
- 8:41And I think they could actually get away with these kind of
- 8:43radical designs now, because.
- 8:45Drag, although still exists, doesn't really matter anymore.
- 8:49If you're doing three seconds, zero to 60, you can still get there just as quick.
- 8:52So that would be pretty cool.
- 8:54If they did keep this really very angular styling and do something different.
- 8:57I think that'd be pretty in contrast to what we're just talking
- 8:59about with the civic, right?
- 9:01That looks like everything else.
- 9:02I have a response to that with respect to these.
- 9:06Could we make one vehicle and now this would be the modern inspector gadget car
- 9:10and two by looking at the nose on the three of these, the coupe, the GT and
- 9:15the SUV concept, are they amphibious?
- 9:18They look like Dr.
- 9:19Evil's ship.
- 9:20They're a straight.
- 9:21Up rip off of Nissan's IDX concept that they never built.
- 9:26Look at the front end of an IDX.
- 9:27Somebody was heavily inspired, I think, by that vehicle.
- 9:31I think they were inspired by the duck boats in DC.
- 9:34That's what I
- 9:35see.
- 9:35But I do have an answer for E colon N.
- 9:38Okay.
- 9:40Oh, God.
- 9:40Not that it's good or bad.
- 9:42So the E is from E colon technology, the collective brand name for
- 9:47Honda's electrification technologies.
- 9:49Then the N stands for new or next, representing new value creation for
- 9:55the next generation of mobility.
- 9:57So they're trying to energize.
- 9:59People
- 10:00energize your colon and drive a
- 10:04Honda's up until this point that I've used as rental cars.
- 10:07I always joke that there's a little needle that comes out of the headrest
- 10:11and anesthetizes you because they're just so numb, but maybe this one
- 10:15gives you a colonoscopy instead.
- 10:17It's more exciting.
- 10:18Meanwhile, what else is going on?
- 10:20Apparently Mitsubishi.
- 10:22It's coming out or has revealed there.
- 10:25Thank you.
- 10:26That's my takeaway.
- 10:28We're not even going to get into this article.
- 10:29Cause my whole takeaway after reading this was they're still selling cars in America.
- 10:34What?
- 10:36But Hey, if you're looking for a plug in hybrid and Mitsubishi is
- 10:40bringing the 2023 Outlander as a
- 10:43what dealership.
- 10:44I haven't seen a Mitsubishi dealership since the Lancers disappeared and
- 10:47there weren't many dealerships then.
- 10:49I'll give you 20 bucks if you can name three Mitsubishi models
- 10:52other than this one right now.
- 10:543000 GT.
- 10:55No, I'm talking about current models.
- 10:56Oh, forget it.
- 10:57Nevermind.
- 11:00I had a 97 Eclipse GST, love that car.
- 11:04That was before, you know, we got the Evo's they did like Nissan did, although
- 11:08Nissan recovered with the Skyline, they waited way too long to bring the
- 11:10Evo's over and then they neutered the Eclipse to me, they did it to themselves.
- 11:14Right.
- 11:14And then I was talking to somebody recently that was talking about, I
- 11:17guess they had a deal back in the early two K's where it was like zero down
- 11:200 percent interest for so many years.
- 11:23And that really kind of screwed them financially.
- 11:25But yeah, looking at this, what is this thing called Outlander?
- 11:28Again, I think the design is wrong.
- 11:29Look at companies like Kia and Hyundai that, you know, were.
- 11:33Nothing.
- 11:33Right.
- 11:34And then they started getting some nice styling and everybody's like, Whoa, okay.
- 11:37And even when they were still garbage, and I'm sure they're a lot better now, people
- 11:40were like, well, okay, I buy with my eyes.
- 11:42I think it's cool.
- 11:43This thing, I don't know.
- 11:45It looks like another two things made it in the front and there's
- 11:48extra, what's the Nissan juke.
- 11:51It looks like yeah, it's bigger brother, I think so,
- 11:53which is by the way, is a Renault Clio, but we'll get into that at another point.
- 11:56You're right though.
- 11:57You bring up a very valid point.
- 11:58A lot of people ask me all the time.
- 12:00Why do you guys talk about aesthetics so much?
- 12:02Why do you talk about the way the car looks and you're right.
- 12:03People buy with their eyes.
- 12:05So it's really important that when you're shopping for a car that it's appealing.
- 12:09Granted, you're going to sit on the inside and you can't see it while you're
- 12:12driving, but everybody else has to put up
- 12:14So this is kind of a mixed one between Toyota and Stellantis.
- 12:18They're both Announcing that they're going to build battery
- 12:22factories in North America to supply American EVs and hybrids.
- 12:28Now I've heard, and people could correct me if I'm wrong.
- 12:31A lot of the hybrid technology out there, the patents are all owned
- 12:35and basically controlled by Toyota.
- 12:37So even if Ford has a hybrid or Chrysler has theirs or
- 12:41whatever, it's some derivative.
- 12:42Of Toyota's older technology.
- 12:44And they're all kind of licensing it and modifying it from there.
- 12:47It's almost like open source, right?
- 12:48Where it's like, well, we're done with the code and now you can take it and
- 12:51modify it and do whatever you want with it, you know, based where we've
- 12:53already moved on to the next generation.
- 12:55That's really interesting to see Stellantis and Toyota
- 12:58partnering up to build batteries.
- 13:00Any indication of where they're going to be doing that?
- 13:02I believe Stellantis might be a year ahead of Toyota.
- 13:05In 2024, Toyota following in production in 2025, but it's
- 13:10unclear where that'll happen.
- 13:12I mean, we do know that believe Ford has production in Tennessee and also Kentucky.
- 13:17So question would be, would it be somewhere kind of in
- 13:19that belt or somewhere new?
- 13:20I mean, we do know Tesla's got their battery factory that
- 13:23they're trying to build in Texas.
- 13:25But
- 13:25that's right, they're on the move.
- 13:26When are people going to start protesting battery plants?
- 13:29That seems like kind of the next move, doesn't it?
- 13:31Yeah, I mean, we do all these environmental impact studies of a
- 13:34lot of other factories and things and carbon credits are necessary.
- 13:37But I mean, when you're building batteries, you're dealing with chemicals
- 13:39and precious metals and rare earth metals.
- 13:42And it's got to be caustic and toxic as all get out to build batteries
- 13:46on a massive scale like this.
- 13:47I'm still wondering where all the raw materials are.
- 13:50Maybe we're harvesting it off of the moon or from Mars or, you know,
- 13:53whatever SpaceX is doing this week,
- 13:55maybe more interesting is, I don't know your comment about Toyotas
- 13:59and their patents and all that stuff, but they've been very other
- 14:02than the Prius, which they've had for a long time being a hybrid.
- 14:05They've been a little bit more reserved or closed around going full EV.
- 14:09I feel like they've had the Prius they've had that, but there really hasn't been
- 14:12the seemingly huge push from the brand, but they have pushed hydrogens in the past
- 14:18and currently, and they have that Mirai.
- 14:20Which is their hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.
- 14:23Right.
- 14:24And that's been around since like 2016, at least I believe.
- 14:28However of note more recently, he does hit a Guinness world record,
- 14:33the Toyota Mirai for an 845 mile journey on a single tank of hydrogen
- 14:39that took only five minutes to fill.
- 14:40The record is the journey, but.
- 14:43To note five minutes to fill that hydrogen tank.
- 14:45And they took it down the coast of California for an 845 mile journey.
- 14:49How fast is it?
- 14:50Did it take five days to get there?
- 14:51I can't imagine hydrogen's that fast.
- 14:53Two day trip.
- 14:54I've always thought that hydrogen would be kind of the ideal way to go.
- 14:57Right.
- 14:57For obvious reasons.
- 14:58And you wonder, obviously we were doing batteries a hundred years ago, but you
- 15:02know, did we go to batteries now because the performance is there and it was.
- 15:06Easier.
- 15:06It was quicker or there can't be too much research involved in hydrogen.
- 15:10I mean, think about all the research we're doing in batteries.
- 15:12Like why hasn't hydrogen caught on more?
- 15:15It's obviously very readily available.
- 15:17It's gotta be a performance issue is the only thing I could think of.
- 15:20Right.
- 15:20Part of the problem is.
- 15:22getting hydrogen because you'd have to do some electrolysis
- 15:25processes and things like that.
- 15:27But I think there's also a big stigma around the safety of hydrogen because
- 15:31of past Hindenburg to name one.
- 15:34And I don't know if they've worked out.
- 15:36Hydrogen is highly flammable, so there is definite need for very good safety
- 15:42around the hydrogen fuel cell and whatnot.
- 15:45You know, someone's in an accident and you know, it's always stupid when you see
- 15:49in the movies that car rear end somebody else and violently explodes into flames.
- 15:53Right.
- 15:53That's very rarely happens, but I don't know with hydrogen, you
- 15:58know, two metal objects create a spark and the tank opens and now
- 16:01you got pure hydrogen floating out.
- 16:03That is very flammable.
- 16:04So I don't know.
- 16:05It's been a while since I've gone back and dug through kind
- 16:07of where the research is on it.
- 16:09You wonder too about the people, you know, just filling it up, you know, I'm sure
- 16:12they would figure out a way to do it.
- 16:13But somebody smoking a cigarette, like you see the guys at the gas
- 16:15station that still don't understand.
- 16:17Hey, it's not just a liquid.
- 16:18It turns into that scene from Zoolander, except with hydrogen, I don't even
- 16:22know that we'd get that far, right?
- 16:24You wouldn't get soaked in it before it combusts.
- 16:27There's also.
- 16:27Compression that has to happen, right?
- 16:29Cause it's a gas that's going to occupy a huge volume.
- 16:32So in order to get the amount you need as fuel, you have to compress it, right?
- 16:36Uh, propane, all that stuff is in compressed cylinders.
- 16:39And obviously that could be expensive to manufacture as well.
- 16:43It's a cool idea.
- 16:44I just, I don't know.
- 16:45I I'd love to see, you know, some of maybe the hybrid technologies that
- 16:49they use in Europe coming to the table.
- 16:51I mean, they've done diesel propane.
- 16:53They've done propane gas.
- 16:54They've done all these other kinds of things over there.
- 16:56They've been playing with propane.
- 16:58for what feels like forever.
- 16:59Maybe, you know, we have a lot of CNG, compressed natural gas here in the States.
- 17:03Maybe that's an option or an alternative to hydrogen.
- 17:06Granted, natural gas is not fast.
- 17:08You have to partner it with something else.
- 17:10One of the best pairings is probably with diesel, but we know there's a huge stigma.
- 17:14It's very taboo now to talk about diesels.
- 17:16I have to remind people, they can be run on other types of fuel.
- 17:19It's not necessarily the engine that's in it.
- 17:21It's dirty.
- 17:22It's the fuel that we run through it.
- 17:23That's pretty gross.
- 17:25And then how we deal with it, because if you run a diesel and veggie
- 17:27runs a lot cleaner than it does on this low sulfur garbage that you're
- 17:32buying at the pump these days,
- 17:33be interesting to maybe research a little bit more as to why the
- 17:37hydrogen is not taking off into cars.
- 17:39Because actually there's a lot of Metro buses, city type buses
- 17:42that actually run on hydrogen.
- 17:44They're actually, I think like a hydrogen electric kind of hybrid.
- 17:47So clearly it's possible.
- 17:49And there's vehicles out on the road today.
- 17:52And I think that's a great use in public transportation.
- 17:54Cause gosh, those petrol buses are huge polluters and smog generators.
- 18:01So these buses running around cities, churning constantly clean energy, I
- 18:05think is a great alternative for them.
- 18:08So it would be interesting to understand what the difficulty is on the car scale.
- 18:12So I wanted to dovetail real quick, Tanya, off of something you said
- 18:15before about Toyota quietly working in the background, you know, that's
- 18:17really been their MO for what's.
- 18:19Seems like a very long time.
- 18:21I watched some things on history channel recently on a motor trend
- 18:23that we're talking about the history of Honda, Mercedes, and,
- 18:26you know, machines that built the world and Toyota was part of that.
- 18:29And it's always kind of been their MO to be quietly in the background and
- 18:32all that kind of stuff and innovating.
- 18:33And then suddenly shocking us with something new.
- 18:36And you said, you know, they don't have a whole lot of hybrids outside of the Prius.
- 18:39They've quietly released the Lexus RX hybrid.
- 18:43These,
- 18:44yeah, I was going to say you got to count on the Lexus side.
- 18:47They have the.
- 18:48Number X series.
- 18:50So the UX, the NX, the RX, the CT 200
- 18:53H, which is a Corolla or whatever.
- 18:54Well,
- 18:55that they don't no longer make it.
- 18:58That's Already however many years old, but the current lineup is the X
- 19:02series, so the UX and XRX in increasing size, and those are electric hybrids.
- 19:08And
- 19:08I found out that the Pacifica is no longer the only hybrid minivan.
- 19:13Toyota just released the new Sienna.
- 19:16As a hybrid as well.
- 19:17And that was pretty quiet launch as well.
- 19:19So it's pretty surprised and we've been talking for the longest time.
- 19:21Why haven't Honda and Toyota come to market with the hybrid minivan?
- 19:25Why is Chrysler the only one maybe it was a licensing agreement, maybe
- 19:29something there to give Chrysler a boost.
- 19:31Who knows I'm speculating, but.
- 19:33The Sienna is now here as a hybrid as well.
- 19:35Granted, it's not a plugin.
- 19:37It's more like the Prius.
- 19:38The Pacifica is a, is a plugin using apparently Ford's
- 19:41technology to make all that work.
- 19:43So very curious to see where that goes in the future and how it's going to evolve.
- 19:46Now that Toyota's pretty much put both feet in the water into that hybrid space
- 19:50with vehicles, pretty much in every category between the Lexus, the Prius and
- 19:54the minivan, but I guess we got to move on to Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche news.
- 19:58So last month we talked about BMW and their.
- 20:02Motorcycles, not to be outdone, Porsche has revealed their new air cooled model.
- 20:08And I thought this was absolutely hilarious.
- 20:10Came across my desk from PCA, the Porsche club of America, and Porsche
- 20:14is also developing a bicycle.
- 20:16Can't tell you how irked I was when I clicked on this article.
- 20:20Clickbait, right?
- 20:20I mean, it is what it is.
- 20:22Bikes are cool.
- 20:22I remember, you know, kind of first getting into the automotive bikes
- 20:26when Lotus was doing them back in the nineties, things pretty cool.
- 20:29Yeah.
- 20:29I think it's cool.
- 20:29I, the video is, is kind of cheesy and corny, but I think it's the,
- 20:33you know, and, and, and people will snatch those up they're destined for
- 20:36somebody's wall to hang is, you know, wall art for sure, but it was cute.
- 20:40I suppose
- 20:40I was the same.
- 20:41I was like air, cold Porsche.
- 20:43What now?
- 20:43Like, this is super cool.
- 20:45You know, maybe some EV or something, because maybe they figured out
- 20:48a way to do without liquid.
- 20:49I don't know.
- 20:50And then they reveal it and they made it look like a.
- 20:52car, which was cool.
- 20:53It was actually two bikes together.
- 20:54And I was like, Oh, okay.
- 20:56Yeah.
- 20:56We're just going back to Porsche design from like the eighties.
- 20:59I'm like, they've had bikes over the years.
- 21:01I mean, it's not a first for Porsche to have a pedal bike.
- 21:04I've only ever seen one in person.
- 21:07I've never ridden one, but it's also not uncommon for bicycle manufacturers to
- 21:11have been tied to auto manufacturers.
- 21:14Take Bianchi as an example, right?
- 21:16Alto Bianchi is the automotive Arm of Bianchi, the bicycle
- 21:20company, but it's cool.
- 21:22I mean, it's a good looking bike.
- 21:23I honestly, I gotta say, just like in real life, I think the Porsche bike
- 21:27looks better than the BMW one, but I'm not gonna spend 25 grand on a bike.
- 21:30If I am, it's going to be something really awesome.
- 21:33So it's funny.
- 21:33I didn't even pick up those details because I only watched enough for
- 21:36the video to see that it was a bike.
- 21:38And then I got pissed and went away, but it's interesting.
- 21:40You talk about the way it was covered, you know, with the race car, they
- 21:42just came out with, you're talking about it on garage ride, I can't
- 21:44remember what it's called, like the R 300 or whatever it is that's
- 21:47supposed to be a Cayman or something.
- 21:48So to me, it was like, Oh, well, if they came out with that car, that doesn't
- 21:51look like any of their production models, maybe this really is some kind
- 21:55of new version of an air cooled car.
- 21:57And you're right.
- 21:57The way they had it covered, it was pointy and weird, and I
- 22:01wasn't expecting the bike at all.
- 22:02And I was like, is this some kind of, the manufacturers do that?
- 22:05No roof, no windshield kind of thing.
- 22:07I was like a spider.
- 22:08No, but it was, it was a bike.
- 22:10Like I said, I didn't go far enough to see that it was 25, 000.
- 22:13That's crazy.
- 22:14But it goes along with your 95 t shirts, I guess.
- 22:17Yeah,
- 22:17yeah, yeah.
- 22:18And 7, 000 sunglasses and stuff, you know, whatever, but you know,
- 22:21Hey, they're made of magnesium.
- 22:23So, you know, super light because, you know, aluminum isn't good enough, but
- 22:26black forest, right?
- 22:28Special order as a Porsche part number, just like those
- 22:30sausages that Volkswagen has.
- 22:32So speaking of other things, Volkswagen, yet another King of the Hill moment,
- 22:37the Veyron versus the, and I got to question this, is it the Chiron or the
- 22:42Chiron, but they're pitting them against each other for the hyper car crown.
- 22:46Does anybody actually care?
- 22:47Uh,
- 22:48is
- 22:49it, is that the French way?
- 22:50Cause the Greeks say Chiron.
- 22:51I was, you know, that was the most interesting part of this whole thing.
- 22:54I've heard every version.
- 22:55I actually was in a Bugatti dealership in Zurich.
- 22:58I went there.
- 22:59Sharon, she said it.
- 23:01Oh, that's how she said it was out and she told me not to take pictures of it.
- 23:04I did.
- 23:05Anyway, I'll send 'em to you.
- 23:05But to me, this video, again, it's almost was as frustrating as the bicycle one.
- 23:09It's like, hmm, let me take a car and one that's 10 years
- 23:12newer and see which one's faster.
- 23:14Which one you thinks gonna be faster.
- 23:15Right.
- 23:15It's like so dumb.
- 23:17But I like the headline.
- 23:18What does it say?
- 23:19The way to embarrass the Bugatti owners to bring a, A faster Bugatti.
- 23:22That's
- 23:25. Again, I wanna remind people they are French, you know, sounds Italian.
- 23:28They are French.
- 23:29They're the most famous French auto manufacturer, probably on
- 23:31the planet in terms of race cars.
- 23:33I mean, right there with Renault, right.
- 23:35But still they are part of the VAG family.
- 23:38You know, they are on an aging R eight platform.
- 23:40We've already covered that, but you know, on
- 23:42that note and kind of sidebar that same trip, and speaking of Bugatti,
- 23:45there's a museum in France over on the eastern part of France called
- 23:48the Schlump Museum, and it's the largest Bugatti museum in the world.
- 23:52They have 132, I think they had a bear on there when I was there,
- 23:56but if you ever get the chance, uh, it's, it's pretty cool.
- 23:59So Donovan, I jokingly mentioned the aging RA platform.
- 24:02So I would be remiss to use Tanya's phrase to not talk about Lamborghini.
- 24:06So what's their vision of the future?
- 24:08You know, it's hybrid, which, okay.
- 24:10They're easing into the electric, right?
- 24:12We all know they're going to go there.
- 24:13I mean, what did they say by 2024?
- 24:15They're going to be hybrid.
- 24:16I guess that's cool, right?
- 24:17I mean, you think F1 has been doing it.
- 24:19Everybody's kind of easing into it.
- 24:20So I got the engine in there, but I think we've all known that the charm
- 24:23of these cars, right, is the big B12 in the back or the B10 or the sound,
- 24:28you know, I'm fortunate enough to have.
- 24:30A guy right now and you know the sound of it alone.
- 24:33That's why I want to drive that car, right?
- 24:35Yeah, performs great, but just that sound.
- 24:37So once they start to lose those kind of things.
- 24:39I think that's concerning.
- 24:41You imagine 20 years from now, somebody going to go to the Lamborghini dealership
- 24:44and go, Oh, I want this car because it's beautiful, but it sounds like the wind.
- 24:48So I don't know, you know, I really wonder, you know, what's going to
- 24:51happen to the supercar, hypercar market when all this happens.
- 24:54I mean, the Bugattis we were just talking about, you know, when they
- 24:56don't make any sound and you've got a 250, 000 Tesla roadster that's faster,
- 25:01you know, that makes no sound either.
- 25:02I think those companies are gonna be in real trouble, but I did want to point out
- 25:05the most interesting part of that article.
- 25:07They say in there that.
- 25:08One out of every 11, 000 cars in the world is a Lamborghini.
- 25:12There's no way
- 25:14that's BS.
- 25:15I flag on the play.
- 25:16There's no way Baldy, the guy, or however you want to say it, Italian
- 25:19says that one in 11, 000 vehicles in the world is a Lamborghini, which is
- 25:22tiny compared to a massive automaker.
- 25:24Like Toyota, I find that hard to believe.
- 25:26I know they made a lot of guy or does.
- 25:28And they made a lot of hurricanes and now they're making a lot of Uris or
- 25:32Uris or however you want to say it.
- 25:33But if so, I want to say Toreg.
- 25:35Yeah.
- 25:36Yeah.
- 25:36Slash Panamera slash the exciting part for me about this is okay.
- 25:40Cool.
- 25:41When EVs aren't alternative source vehicles anymore and combustion engines
- 25:46are Kuntosh is now or half a million dollars, you know, give or take, can you
- 25:50imagine what they're going to be worth?
- 25:51Once you can't buy a V12 Lamborghini anymore.
- 25:54So buy them up now.
- 25:55A
- 25:55hundred percent.
- 25:56Ken Block.
- 25:57We talked about him last month.
- 25:58He has transitioned from Ford over to Audi.
- 26:01And it's kind of more of the same.
- 26:03As he's making his foray into the Audi world, they've taken him through
- 26:07the history of Audis in a multi part video series that I was watching.
- 26:12They've given Ken the keys in these videos to multiple, what they call, Audi.
- 26:17Legacy or Audi heritage tribute cars, like, you know, the DTM V8 and the Audi
- 26:22sport Quattros, you know, from the rally era and the IMSA ITU 90s and things
- 26:27like that in typical Ken Block style.
- 26:29What does he do?
- 26:30He puts them on track and goes completely sideways.
- 26:32The one that hurt me the most is watching him drive Hans Stuck's V8 DTM car, trying
- 26:38to drift it around this road course.
- 26:41And I'm just like, this car was never intended to do this.
- 26:44That flat plane V8 doesn't like that.
- 26:47And neither does the car.
- 26:48And it's too big.
- 26:49And I'm like, I can't believe Audi's letting him do this
- 26:52stuff and he's getting it done.
- 26:54But I'm just like, I feel for those cars.
- 26:56I mean, if it wasn't a rally car, it's not supposed to go sideways.
- 26:59I think it's kind of disrespectful, honestly.
- 27:01I mean.
- 27:02Yeah, it's cool.
- 27:03It's PR hype and maybe do that to rally cars.
- 27:05But like you're saying, I think there's certain cars that you just don't do
- 27:08that to, you know, you wouldn't take a nine 17 K and try to drift it.
- 27:12It's what is, you know, it wasn't designed that way.
- 27:14There should be some respect for the history of the vehicle and
- 27:17things, but it was pretty crazy.
- 27:19And I didn't know that hidden, uh, what is it called?
- 27:21The tradition center or something.
- 27:23That's pretty cool.
- 27:24And obviously none of us can get in there.
- 27:25It's super secret air quotes, but the car that I was most taken by,
- 27:29and I can't remember the name of it.
- 27:31It's the one that's in the thumbnail, that white one to
- 27:33the right of the bug eyed one.
- 27:35Oh, at the group, a car.
- 27:36Yeah.
- 27:37The prototype that never ran.
- 27:38That was pretty crazy.
- 27:39It
- 27:40was pretty cool to see a lot of these cars.
- 27:41It was interesting too, when he walks in and he skips that whole first set of cars.
- 27:45And then just pretty much wants to focus on the Quattros and
- 27:48everything else was, was interesting.
- 27:49But yeah, I mean, definitely a PR stunt, right, for Audi and for
- 27:52him, but, uh, it's pretty cool.
- 27:53I'm excited to see some, something different in his videos.
- 27:56And I know there's going to be tons of people are all, well, whatever, just
- 27:58drive the car, send it, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:00The problem is if you take like a DTM car or like the ITU car,
- 28:04any of those that were designed for road racing, the types of.
- 28:07Lateral pressure you're putting on those suspensions.
- 28:10They were not designed for that.
- 28:12They don't have the steering articulation.
- 28:14You're taking a 30 year old car or older out on track and then just abusing it.
- 28:19I mean, granted it's Audi.
- 28:20They can just make more parts, but their job in life at the museum is to not
- 28:25go then repair Hans Stuck's race car.
- 28:28That's been in storage pristine forever.
- 28:30I mean, it just, I don't know.
- 28:31It hurt me to watch that and I'm like, Yeah, I get it Hoonigan and bring
- 28:35everybody with you from Subaru and try to convince them that Audi is awesome.
- 28:38But I think they need to reinvent the way they're doing this.
- 28:41We can't do more of the same hats off to Ken.
- 28:44Hopefully maybe something cool will come of this.
- 28:46I don't want to see history repeated.
- 28:48You know what I mean?
- 28:49What would the Audi version be of the Ford F 100 pickup that he had?
- 28:55It's going to be the RSQ8 or whatever that thing is that they're running
- 28:59around the Nürburgring right now, which we're going to talk about a little bit,
- 29:02what's an old 60s, early 70s Audi that he can put huge fenders on and
- 29:07yeah, yeah, old Audi 100 or whatever.
- 29:09They're all sedans back then.
- 29:10Yeah,
- 29:11cool.
- 29:11I think it's going to do a lot for the brand though.
- 29:12I mean, I think, you know, there's a lot of people Younger people that watch that.
- 29:15And I think they're going to be Audi fans after it.
- 29:17So I think it was pretty good move for them.
- 29:18Yeah.
- 29:19The only disconnect there is the price range.
- 29:20Audi doesn't make anything that young people can just go by.
- 29:24Right.
- 29:24And even the GTI is starting to escape people's grasp.
- 29:28And that's why cars like the Civic that we talked about at the top of the show,
- 29:31their price point is still higher than it's ever been, but still lower than
- 29:34some of the German entries, the low end, you know, even the low end three series,
- 29:38BMWs, which used to be attainable.
- 29:40Now, 50, 60, 000.
- 29:42I mean, young kids can't jump into that.
- 29:44Like they couldn't eat 30 and the resale value on a lot of those
- 29:47cars, because people are leasing them it's high, it's a catch 22.
- 29:51So, you know, Ford has done the young drivers of disservice as well.
- 29:56By doing away with the Fiesta and the Focus and other cars, you know,
- 29:59we've seen them all disappear.
- 30:00So I'm really curious, you know, maybe when my daughters start driving, the
- 30:03car that they're going to drive at 16, 18 years old hasn't been created yet.
- 30:07So I'm kind of curious to see where the market is and, you know, what will be a
- 30:10used car when they're old enough to drive.
- 30:13Granted, right?
- 30:13It's a, it's a huge PR move for Audi, but you know, was it?
- 30:16Audi Germany, was it Audi US?
- 30:18Because obviously in Germany, Audis are more attainable because
- 30:22of the lower interest rate.
- 30:23But that's kind of a narrow focus.
- 30:24So surely Audi, you know, corporate was thinking broader than that, but that's,
- 30:28I mean, you make a great point that I never really thought of before with
- 30:30Ford, you could go buy an inexpensive Ford or an inexpensive used version.
- 30:34Audi, not the case.
- 30:35Subaru still, but yeah, I mean, unless they're going to try to do
- 30:38something else with the market.
- 30:40I mean, think about all the PR they got from kicking everybody's butt for years.
- 30:43Maybe that's all they're on is just a big PR machine.
- 30:45I'm confused and I find both videos pointless.
- 30:50Yes.
- 30:50It's better done in the URQ, an actual rally car.
- 30:54However, the URQ and Audi doesn't need Ken Block to prove that it's a rally car.
- 31:00Audi effing proved that already 30 years ago and they changed the game now.
- 31:06It's super cool.
- 31:07I guess with.
- 31:08Ford.
- 31:08That's not known for that.
- 31:10I mean, yeah, they had the Cosworth and things like that, but the types of cars
- 31:13that, you know, the Hoonigan craft Ford, isn't known like Audi for revolutionizing
- 31:18rally and being a world champion, unless I'm mistaken, the heritage,
- 31:24the pedigree, the infamy of Audi.
- 31:27I don't know.
- 31:27It speaks for URQ and it's rally livery and everyone should just shut up.
- 31:33And I'm not impressed because he barely could fricking drift the
- 31:36URQ and the IMSA car, the DTM car doesn't want to be drifted.
- 31:40Correct.
- 31:41That's
- 31:41what I keep saying.
- 31:42It was such a forced effort.
- 31:44It's like, what, what is the point?
- 31:45It's not like you said, it is not designed to do that.
- 31:48I had a thought.
- 31:48I wonder if it.
- 31:49here.
- 31:49So we were talking recently, and I think we might've talked about it last
- 31:52podcast too, but talking about BMW, we were talking about it this weekend.
- 31:55I was at a BMW meet there is heritage and history with BMW, right?
- 31:59Just think about the M three, for example, the original M three,
- 32:02the only reason we had one is they needed them to race, right?
- 32:04They were two door cars.
- 32:06Rah, rah, rah.
- 32:07So through the years, they sort of kept that heritage until the four door
- 32:10version came out as the current M3, which should have been M4, you know, and
- 32:14there's been other missteps along the way with the way they number their cars
- 32:16and things, but the whole point of that conversation was, do you think that a
- 32:20lot of these manufacturers now gotten to the point where maybe generations have
- 32:24moved on and newer generations are going off the bus, but they're not thinking
- 32:28the tradition of the vehicles, right?
- 32:30So the marketing team for the current.
- 32:32M4 isn't thinking, oh, that should be an M3 because of this.
- 32:36The
- 32:36problem with that Donovan is the marketing team that's doing this right
- 32:39now is our generation of petrolheads.
- 32:42So where did we go astray?
- 32:43We're going to get lost, right?
- 32:45I agree with everything you've said Donovan.
- 32:47And I think that makes sense because that speaks to how Everything that
- 32:51was once old is new again, all these remakes and redos, even in the movie
- 32:56world where it's like, okay, sure.
- 32:58It's new for the new generation, but you know, some of us have already seen it.
- 33:02If Audi or anyone else is trying to market the new generation, like
- 33:06you're saying, why are you bringing back a car from 30 years ago that
- 33:09these people have no idea existed?
- 33:11Well, that's what I'm saying though.
- 33:12I think part of it is the market they're trying to reach, but I think partially
- 33:15internally as the corporation, those people don't get it to your point,
- 33:19Tanya, about, you know, we all remember a groupie and we know Audi's heritage
- 33:24in there and they kicked ass, but let's say the new marketing team is.
- 33:27You know, millennials are wise or cues or bars or whatever they're called.
- 33:31Now, all they know is there were a bunch of cool Audis and video games.
- 33:34Let's go get the mothballs off and have Ken Block.
- 33:36Who's a current cultural icon, drive the crap out of them.
- 33:40Cause those things seem cool and split them.
- 33:41This guy and they're awesome.
- 33:42Instead of somebody going, Whoa, to your point, Eric, that was hunched.
- 33:46Duke's car, right?
- 33:47That car was important.
- 33:48It's still important.
- 33:49We know that it was important.
- 33:51We knew it existed for what it was.
- 33:52Let's not touch it.
- 33:53I feel like there's a disconnect these days between whatever it is,
- 33:56the marketing group or whatever in the history of the brand, I think a lot of
- 34:00that's getting lost and I think about the book that Lutz wrote when he worked
- 34:04at BMW about them wanting to change the round ball and he was like, no, no, no.
- 34:07That's.
- 34:08The heritage of the brand.
- 34:09They've changed it now, of course, since, but you know, they wanted to change
- 34:12it to something completely different.
- 34:13It was kind of that.
- 34:14No, that's what people recognize.
- 34:15Right.
- 34:16And my point in that is I think, you know, people have gotten lost in that.
- 34:18And I wonder if that's out of here because you're taking,
- 34:21Tony, you nailed it again, right?
- 34:22You're taking these cars that we already know we're key, right?
- 34:24We don't need to prove it anymore.
- 34:25They're still in our memory and our, in our minds and trying
- 34:29to do something different with them just because it's cool.
- 34:31There's these old cars that I've seen, you know, elsewhere.
- 34:33So I feel like brands are losing their way.
- 34:36But if we flip that.
- 34:37Coin over and look at the other side, a well done version of this heritage meets
- 34:42the future video was actually between Stig Blumfist, one of the original Group B
- 34:47drivers, maybe not as well known as Walter Rural, Michel Mouton, but he was one of
- 34:51the key players on the team along with Hanno Micola and a lot of other folks that
- 34:55ran for Audi back in the Group B days.
- 34:57So they brought out Lucas Degrassi, who runs the Formula E car for
- 35:01Audi, and they did a driver swap.
- 35:03They had Lucas Drive, Walter Rural.
- 35:06You are Quattro, not Stig's.
- 35:08I looked at the tag on the side of the car, plus the numbers.
- 35:10And I'm a geek.
- 35:11So I figured all that out.
- 35:12And then Stig drives the new e tron GT, the quote unquote, let's call it a two
- 35:18door, but not a two door all electric.
- 35:21I thought that was really cool.
- 35:22That was the past meeting the future.
- 35:25And both of them gave their opinions on the car.
- 35:28They drove it around this European road up in the mountains or whatever.
- 35:31And they drove the Stig.
- 35:32track at speed and I thought it was fantastic.
- 35:34And what was great is, and I always enjoy as mild mannered as he is in
- 35:39soft spoken Stig, the real Stig, Stig Blumfist is still the man and
- 35:44he can drive and he's so smooth.
- 35:46And I want to point out one important thing, cause I studied this video,
- 35:50he shuffle steers and I'm just going to leave my microphone right there.
- 35:55That's interesting.
- 35:55It's the, it's the past meets the future.
- 35:57And it reminds me too, of the swap, not the past meets the future, but you
- 36:00know, Hamilton and Rossi doing the swap.
- 36:02That was really cool.
- 36:03Maybe there is something in an Audi, if you're listening, I want some credit
- 36:06for this, but put Ken Block in one of the old rally cars and put him on
- 36:10one of the old rally stages and check his time against that, you know, do
- 36:13stuff like that where a lot of people didn't watch rally back in the day.
- 36:16Right.
- 36:16So they're not going to know the drivers that set the time, but you know,
- 36:19Hey, this was the record in this car.
- 36:21That would be really interesting.
- 36:22And I think that would probably be a better use of that.
- 36:25Happened earlier this year.
- 36:28So I talked about it in one of the other episodes, Yari Matilatvala
- 36:31drove his father's Toyota Celica from the post groupie era.
- 36:36So the early nineties, the Carlos signs car, and he drove it.
- 36:39He goes, I can drive this just as fast as a modern Toyota.
- 36:42And people are like, what do you, you don't know what you're talking about.
- 36:45But you're a mad man.
- 36:46Cause he is the mad man of WRC.
- 36:47And he did it.
- 36:48I mean, he got close.
- 36:49His times were phenomenal.
- 36:51He's a phenomenal driver.
- 36:52Granted he's now pulled out of WRC.
- 36:54He's a team owner.
- 36:55He's not driving anymore.
- 36:56So he's basically retired to sunset your career like that and go, look,
- 37:00I'm driving my dad's car and it can still kick ass against a new rally car.
- 37:04I mean, what does that say about new rally cars?
- 37:06It says a lot about the old cars too.
- 37:09Right.
- 37:09And so again, the past meets the future and stuff like that gets
- 37:12your attention more so than some of these other publicity stunts.
- 37:16The other part is, you know, Kim Block is actually a good race car driver.
- 37:19Right?
- 37:19He's not just a drifter guy.
- 37:21Right.
- 37:21And you see, what is it, stadium Cross, is that what it's called?
- 37:24When they've got the joker loop and all that stuff on there?
- 37:25Yeah, the rally cross.
- 37:26Yeah.
- 37:27Yeah.
- 37:27And he's actually beaten some current champs and stuff.
- 37:29What?
- 37:29You know, it'd be nice to see him, and I know the donuts are what
- 37:31sells and things, but again, right.
- 37:33He's kind of in his element there.
- 37:34So let him do something that's worthy.
- 37:35But
- 37:36the hat's off the Stig for still getting behind the wheel.
- 37:38I was wondering if that was his original driving suit or not.
- 37:43I'll leave that where it is.
- 37:44All right.
- 37:45So let's move on to the rest of lower Saxony.
- 37:48Shall we?
- 37:48How about some BMW and Mercedes news?
- 37:51Yeah.
- 37:51So now BMW has this very special painting process where they can paint
- 37:56very fine lines and patterns and things without having to mask them.
- 37:59Uh, of the rest of the car that I think that's really special, you know, the,
- 38:02the M four is they're going to release, I guess they're going to release a handful
- 38:05of them with stripes and, you know, special designs and liveries and things.
- 38:10I'm excited to see where that's going to go.
- 38:11Somebody is going to get crazy with it and have, you know, we've got
- 38:14all these wrapped versions of cars.
- 38:16I saw one the other day, it was the silhouette ghosts on a
- 38:18Lamborghini, which was really cool.
- 38:19It would be really interesting to see if you could go in a
- 38:21dealership now and say, I want.
- 38:23This painted on the side of my car and, you know, do paint to order that way.
- 38:27Just means there's going to be some really overly priced hideous cars
- 38:30on the market, but I think it's going to be a pretty cool feature.
- 38:33And I'm interested to see how it's going to translate the
- 38:34rest of the automotive world.
- 38:35If it works, you know, if it turns out to be another GM process
- 38:38with the, what was the white?
- 38:39Vehicles, you know, that five years later, the paint was falling off.
- 38:42That's going to be just,
- 38:43well, I mean, they can do a lot now considering the advances in
- 38:45technology with 3d printing and lasers and things like that.
- 38:48So I can see these bespoke BMWs being a thing, like we mentioned
- 38:52on a couple other episodes.
- 38:53I think the fail point is always going to be, I can't order what I want.
- 38:58I can't go on the website and I want it purple with green stripes
- 39:01and the Joker's face on the side of it and all this kind of thing.
- 39:04It's going to be, Oh, well, you want a purple one?
- 39:06Well, it only comes with yellow stripes.
- 39:07Are you okay with that?
- 39:08And you're like, man, again, and the Germans have been doing that forever.
- 39:12You want a black interior?
- 39:13Well, you can only get it with a silver car.
- 39:15Like, well, that stinks.
- 39:16I want triple black, you know, move on.
- 39:18Speaking of moving on,
- 39:20yeah.
- 39:20So Mercedes or the parent company is a Daimler AG is
- 39:25spinning off the truck division.
- 39:26I think it's pretty interesting.
- 39:27I guess they feel like it'll be more successful when it's off
- 39:29on its own and focusing more on, you know, where the technology
- 39:32of hauling cargo is going to go.
- 39:35So, you know, they're testing these long haul trucks using liquid hydrogen.
- 39:39As we tie that into this.
- 39:40Part, you know, fuel cells and everything else.
- 39:42So I think it's going to be interesting.
- 39:43It seems like an odd move to me though, that they're spinning off one
- 39:46of their divisions, particularly one that seems to be pretty successful.
- 39:49So I'm not sure what that's really about.
- 39:51I don't know, but that sounds a lot like VAG spinning off, you know, all
- 39:55their trucks into man and man, right?
- 39:57So it kind of makes sense to divide it up.
- 39:59Dodge did the same thing, right?
- 40:00Ram is all the trucks and they're not going to cross brand them anymore.
- 40:04So.
- 40:04Curious to see how Daimler does.
- 40:07I mean, obviously they're probably going to be still sold through
- 40:08the same dealer network and all of that service at the same locations.
- 40:12I mean, all these sprinters that are running around, even the Dodges and
- 40:15things like that, there's still Mercedes underneath rebadged and whatnot.
- 40:18So good for them.
- 40:19And if they're going to experiment with all electric, they're probably
- 40:22going to have it before Tesla does.
- 40:23And if they're going hydrogen, I'm really curious to see how that works too.
- 40:26I mean, I think hydrogen might make sense.
- 40:29In a semi, right?
- 40:30Maybe slightly more protected than a passenger vehicle.
- 40:33But then again, you've got a like kind of rolling torpedo there, you
- 40:36know, you get into some of these accidents with the semi truck.
- 40:38So, you know, again, safety is the biggest concern with
- 40:41hydrogen at the end of the day.
- 40:42So moving on to Stellantis.
- 40:44Now, Stellantis, as we know, you know, we have been partying hard with
- 40:48Stellantis for like 18 months now.
- 40:50And we had that moment about two drive thru episodes ago where, you know, mom
- 40:55and dad were flicking the lights, you know, if anybody remembers those days
- 40:58of house parties, flicking the lights.
- 41:00It's time to go home.
- 41:01Everybody.
- 41:02They said no more charger, no more challenger, no more Hemis.
- 41:06We'll let you guys know what's coming next.
- 41:08The news in Stellantis has been really, really quiet over
- 41:12the last couple of months.
- 41:13I'm not really worried, but there's nothing new to report except for
- 41:18the guys over at MilTech Racing decided to put a brand new Dodge.
- 41:22TRX, which is the 702 horsepower Hellcat engine, basically Ram 1500
- 41:28on a lap around the Nürburgring.
- 41:31Hold my beer.
- 41:34I think that's really cool.
- 41:34I was late to really appreciate the TRX, I guess.
- 41:38And in fact, it was just on a Leno's garage last week.
- 41:41Really cool.
- 41:41I had no idea that, you know, they were making something like that.
- 41:44And I think it's still zero to 60 in like three seconds or under three seconds.
- 41:48It's crazy fast.
- 41:49Anytime you get a truck like that, you know, on a performance
- 41:52course or a racetrack, you know it's gonna roll like crazy.
- 41:54But I bet it was a lot of fun in the streets.
- 41:56What they did is they set up, there were two miltech cars.
- 41:58One is a miltech prepared Audi, like RSQ eight or something like that.
- 42:03Basically the big SUV, so big V eight twin turbo, eight pot
- 42:07brakes, like all this crazy, you know, Audi stuff that you expect.
- 42:09And so he is chasing this TRX, which is basically stock, stock
- 42:13tires, you know, for the factory.
- 42:14All this.
- 42:14They put an exhaust on it, which it sounds really good.
- 42:16And then it's got the regular old.
- 42:18Chrysler supply two pot break that they've been making for like a hundred years.
- 42:23And that was one of the things they were joking about.
- 42:25They're like, we don't know that this thing's going to stop.
- 42:26It weighs like 9, 000 pounds.
- 42:28Right.
- 42:28Watching the video, especially from the chase Audi, when he would get
- 42:32on it, he was out running the Audi.
- 42:34And I'm like, that's a pickup truck people.
- 42:36And then you you're seeing like, you know, little, you know, BMWs
- 42:39and people getting out of the way.
- 42:41It was just like, it's like three tons of coming.
- 42:44Right.
- 42:44And I mean, then he's at the point where the front brakes are smoking,
- 42:47going into the turns because he's trying to stop that mass.
- 42:51And it was, it was just hilarious to watch this thing.
- 42:54And the guy in the Audi, I mean, he was kind of like, whatever.
- 42:57I mean, I was kind of annoyed listening to him just the way he was talking.
- 43:00It almost felt like he was making fun of Americans in a way.
- 43:03But then he was like, dude, look at the back of the truck, like leaning over.
- 43:07You're about to flip.
- 43:08I'm like, he's not about to flip.
- 43:09Oh, the one thing I thought was interesting was it was
- 43:11limited to 190 kilometers.
- 43:14And for those of you that don't do metric conversions in your head
- 43:17quickly, that's 118 miles an hour.
- 43:20So it's not as fast.
- 43:21Fast as a challenger or 9 11, it's governed to 118, but it gets there quick.
- 43:28That's for sure.
- 43:29How did they come up with that number to govern?
- 43:31That's probably the point at which things get stupid.
- 43:33Once you cross 120 in a, in a pickup truck, it probably
- 43:36gets really, really dangerous.
- 43:38You know,
- 43:38breaking distance is half a mile at that point
- 43:40to Tanya's point about the earlier videos.
- 43:42Does it have a point?
- 43:43Absolutely not.
- 43:44The point is why the F not.
- 43:47So if he's got the truck and they're going to let him run it, cause that
- 43:49was their concern, whether they're going to let him on the road or not.
- 43:52The one thing I thought was shocking was how much traffic there was on the ring.
- 43:56I mean, they might as well have been on the beltway, like bumper to bumper
- 43:59going through there, I mean, at a hundred miles an hour, but still
- 44:03I was just like, it's craziness.
- 44:04So is the next iRacing season or are virtual racing going to be?
- 44:10I think that is a good plan.
- 44:11I like
- 44:12that.
- 44:13But I think it's time that we move on to some more domestic news.
- 44:15And our domestic news is brought to you in part by AmericanMuscle.
- 44:19com, your number one resource for Chevy, Ford, and Mopar performance parts.
- 44:24So check them out when you get a chance.
- 44:25AmericanMuscle.
- 44:26com.
- 44:27So Tanya, what's up for Ford and Chevy?
- 44:29Well, it kind of gave it away earlier when you're talking about
- 44:31Toyota and Stellantis's plans around factories being built.
- 44:34So Ford also announced.
- 44:36Uh, earlier this month, they're planning, I think, to spend over
- 44:4011 billion to build, I think, four factories split between Tennessee and
- 44:44Kentucky that are dedicated to EV.
- 44:46I think the Tennessee campus is going to be where the F series pickup
- 44:50truck and battery will be assembled.
- 44:52Whereas I believe in Kentucky, they're going to actually be manufacturing lithium
- 44:56ion batteries, um, with their partnership.
- 44:59With SK pretty interesting.
- 45:01We're talking about they're doing battery factories.
- 45:03Tesla's doing battery factory, Toyota, everybody's doing battery factory.
- 45:07And I guess it kind of makes sense thinking about it.
- 45:08Cause how are they shipping these batteries from Korea?
- 45:13Cause that's where SK and LG, which are the two big battery producers, how
- 45:17are we even moving these things around?
- 45:18Cause there's a lot of restrictions around the shipment of lithium batteries.
- 45:22To the point that a lot of lithium batteries can't be shipped if they're not
- 45:26in the product that they're designed for.
- 45:28There's a lot of restrictions, especially for air, because it's considered
- 45:31hazardous and dangerous material.
- 45:34So if they're not being able to be shipped within the product, which
- 45:37we know they're not, the trucks are coming off the assembly line in the U.
- 45:40S.
- 45:40These companies are then must be having to either pay.
- 45:44A lot of premium to go by land as much as they can, and then maybe by sea
- 45:49if the restrictions are different, or they're having to pay maybe a premium
- 45:52for proper packaging somehow these batteries if they are doing air freight.
- 45:57So I guess it kind of makes sense when you think about it that more and
- 45:59more factories are going to be popping up in different parts of the world
- 46:02to satisfy demand in those markets.
- 46:05I just want to know when I'll be able to buy the knockoff battery on
- 46:08Amazon for like a tenth of the price.
- 46:12Batteries plus version.
- 46:14Exactly.
- 46:14It's only going to work for three charges and then it only holds 20%, but,
- 46:19but yeah, to your point, you're right.
- 46:20I mean, and if they're moving them by ship, like a lot of cargo,
- 46:24which is still tied up in ports because remnants of COVID right.
- 46:27The fallout from that, I don't know how that's done.
- 46:29And then I wonder too, like, let's say, God forbid we have another Valdez
- 46:34type of incident where it's a shipping container or a ship full of lithium
- 46:38batteries If I remember correctly, electricity and water don't mix, right?
- 46:43So that can't be a good idea.
- 46:45You know, if something were to happen tragically.
- 46:47I
- 46:47mean, as long as there's no fire.
- 46:50That's the other thing.
- 46:51And that's what you know, I'm not a super crunchy tree hugger guy, but I am
- 46:55to a degree, you know, the process, you know, all the lithium and stuff that
- 46:59they mine and all those, and you got these batteries that, 30, 40 years later?
- 47:05I mean, You know, I know they can recycle.
- 47:06I think it's what, 70 percent of them or something with your
- 47:09process, but it's really expensive.
- 47:10Will we actually do it, but really concerns me about
- 47:13places like Kentucky and stuff.
- 47:15That's very green.
- 47:16And, you know, like you said, if something was to catch on fire, what
- 47:18was the, the Rimac and I'm not going to say it the way you're supposed
- 47:21to, cause I think it's pretentious, but the Rimac that, uh, no, no, no.
- 47:23What is it?
- 47:24What is it?
- 47:25It's remosh, I guess.
- 47:26What it is?
- 47:27I thought it was the RIMAC.
- 47:29I thought
- 47:29it was RIMAC
- 47:29too.
- 47:30RIMAC cause I'm American, but you know, the, the one that what's
- 47:34his face wrecked on grand tour.
- 47:36And they said that it burned for four days because the batteries would
- 47:40start to ignite and they put them out and the next one would start.
- 47:43So you think about something like that, you know, in the Appalachians
- 47:46and, you know, something happens with all those trees around and that
- 47:48bourbon and all that other stuff.
- 47:49And something catches on fire.
- 47:51And That could be catastrophic potentially.
- 47:53You know, it's, it's really scary to me.
- 47:54I don't know.
- 47:55That'll be the next California wildfire was started from Tesla that was
- 47:59burning for six days or something.
- 48:02It's not funny, but it's funny.
- 48:03I'm sorry.
- 48:04Your favorite Evie.
- 48:05I mean, it's not funny.
- 48:06I feel sorry for poor Californians, idiots starting these forest fires because.
- 48:11Of stupid reasons.
- 48:12I mean, it's a legitimate concern, actually.
- 48:14What if something happened, you know, like that incident in Texas, you know,
- 48:18allegedly we don't know who was driving or not driving and who was in which
- 48:22seat of that Tesla when it slammed into a tree and burst into flames.
- 48:25And allegedly the fire department had some trouble putting out that fire too, that
- 48:29it raged for several hours or whatever.
- 48:31Someone's driving somewhere and an accident and then they set a forest fire.
- 48:35It's conceivable.
- 48:36That's the other thing too, that I don't think we've considered either.
- 48:39It's the other EV, the emergency vehicles now need to be equipped with
- 48:44additional hazmat and electrical fire capabilities, like dealing with that.
- 48:49And I think the firefighters are going to have to retool their suits,
- 48:51you know, for electrical discharge.
- 48:53Increased BTU's from the fires because electrical fires are very different than,
- 48:57you know, fuel fires and things like that.
- 48:59So obviously a lot of them are getting training on that sort of stuff.
- 49:02And I've talked to some individuals that are volunteer firefighters and
- 49:05what they're going through, but now there's an added expense to the fire
- 49:08departments to have to deal with that.
- 49:10You know, Halon systems, like all this kind of stuff that they have to now
- 49:13incorporate onto the fire trucks when they get a report that there's a Prius that's,
- 49:17you know, burning on the side of the road.
- 49:19Well, and now imagine half of the factory is on fire.
- 49:21Yeah,
- 49:22exactly.
- 49:22What do you do?
- 49:23Yeah.
- 49:23Just let it burn.
- 49:24I think we need to send mountain man, Dan, to protest.
- 49:28I'll pay to
- 49:29fly.
- 49:29We'll fly him there and just, he's got to stand there with, how about
- 49:32naked with his boots on with a sign that says no EV factories and on
- 49:35the back of a square body Chevy, like,
- 49:37yeah, I mean, for now, if their number one method of quenching the
- 49:42fire is just continuous deluge, that's one thing, hopefully we don't.
- 49:47Now create some other sort of firefighting foam specifically for EVs, which then
- 49:52has a chemical impact on, you know, the world, because we see that now with the
- 49:56current firefighting foams, that there's groundwater contamination and these PFOAs
- 50:01in everybody's drinking water that are forever chemicals, essentially, they
- 50:05don't break down and they just tend to build up in your body and whatnot, and
- 50:08then can lead to adverse health effects.
- 50:10Uh, it's like, okay.
- 50:12I mean, it's great.
- 50:12As long as it's water, water's water's life, right?
- 50:15Of course, where are we getting all this infinite amount of water from also, right?
- 50:19Always a catch 22.
- 50:21It's going to become like demolition band where you wreck and the car just turns
- 50:25into styrofoam and that's the end of it.
- 50:27And you crawl out of it.
- 50:29I'm just seal.
- 50:30It'll just air seal everything.
- 50:31And that's the end of it.
- 50:32I'm sensing something here.
- 50:33I think we're going to put together a garage riot, GTM protest, and
- 50:36we'll all go to the mountain with our signs on the back in boots.
- 50:39I don't even own cowboy.
- 50:40Will
- 50:43you show me how to use the three seashells as well?
- 50:46Speaking of weird reveals, Chevy has said enough is enough.
- 50:51It's time to reveal the Z06.
- 50:53And guess what folks, if you're listening to this, On the day that
- 50:56it airs, October the 26th, 2021.
- 50:59Today's the big day.
- 51:01The Z06 has finally been revealed.
- 51:03They leaked spy photos on Instagram this month, showing everybody
- 51:07what it was going to look like.
- 51:08And I don't know, here's my bigger question.
- 51:12They can't even fulfill the orders of the regular Z51 Corvettes, the stingrays.
- 51:17How are they going to fulfill the orders of the Z06s?
- 51:21And I thought we weren't making Corvettes.
- 51:23I thought there was a stop order on those, just like there wasn't
- 51:26the Camaros and everything else.
- 51:28I am so confused.
- 51:30That's bizarre.
- 51:30I will say though, they talk about in the article, they're not sure
- 51:33what the engine's going to be.
- 51:35I don't know if you guys happen to see that.
- 51:36Was it an Instagram feed where somebody was at a party and they cranked one up?
- 51:39Flat plane crank?
- 51:41Yeah.
- 51:41I mean, just.
- 51:41Oh, incredible.
- 51:42So whoever that was, I'm sure it got fired the next day, but I mean,
- 51:46if that's really what it's going to sound like, and I've always preferred,
- 51:48I think everybody does, right?
- 51:49Does he have six versions of the stock versions for their looks and things?
- 51:52I think that's going to be fantastic.
- 51:53But you know, the question I have is this one, the next, you know, version, the,
- 51:59the ZR one, like, how are they going to get faster than what they already are?
- 52:02I mean, you know, you get the hybrid, the stingray one.
- 52:04I mean, the stock one's already what, three seconds, zero 60.
- 52:07So what is it going to be?
- 52:082.
- 52:089 and 2.
- 52:098, 2.
- 52:107.
- 52:10So I wonder if they're having kind of a crisis again, similar to what
- 52:13we were talking about before with, okay, we came out with the news,
- 52:17you know, C8 and it's super fast and everybody's going, Oh my God, it's
- 52:20super fast, but now where do we go?
- 52:22We can't go much faster than this.
- 52:23So
- 52:23there's, there's two problems with the new Corvette outside of the million
- 52:27recalls that we joked about throughout this year that the C8 already has.
- 52:31The other problems that it has are, I still argue that the Corvette community
- 52:35isn't prepared for this car, right?
- 52:37It's really leaning towards a younger generation of folks.
- 52:41And I'm not trying to like stereotype Corvette drivers
- 52:44and all jokes aside, right?
- 52:45New balances and gold chains and gray hair and all that.
- 52:48But it's just.
- 52:49So different, I still argue they should have a classic front
- 52:53engine rear drive Corvette.
- 52:55The C7 was just so good.
- 52:58Like the C8, I haven't gotten a chance to coach one yet.
- 53:00Maybe I will.
- 53:01I just, I'm not convinced.
- 53:03The other thing that doesn't convince me is they tried really, really hard to
- 53:07copy the Ferrari and the, and the NSX.
- 53:10And I don't like split exhaust.
- 53:13V8 flat plane V8 or otherwise.
- 53:16I don't think they sound right.
- 53:18It's because of the short headers and everything else.
- 53:20It just sounds like two really angry four bangers running together.
- 53:24And I just, I don't know.
- 53:25I don't think though, you know, you talk
- 53:27about
- 53:27are the credit owners ready for it?
- 53:29I think a lot of these, they're going to be really expensive, right?
- 53:32I'm sure they're going to be a buck and a quarter.
- 53:34You know, 150, I think they're going to go right from the showroom, right?
- 53:37And somebody's garage, you know, some retired folks that keep it and
- 53:40take it out to their cars and coffee.
- 53:41So what happened to the 69 grand bargain basement entry Corvette that was supposed
- 53:46to be so affordable for everybody.
- 53:48Is it because of COVID that now they're all 150 grand?
- 53:52Because even the regular Corvettes right now, if you can get one are ridiculous.
- 53:56They were losing 20 grand per car on the original one.
- 54:00Something like that.
- 54:01So, you know, they knew they were selling them on their market.
- 54:03I think they realized, Oh, we can ask a lot more money for these cars.
- 54:06Now that we've got the initial PR buzz out of them and let's do them.
- 54:08I see them all the time now, which is crazy.
- 54:10And I don't know how, cause you know, if you still can't get them, there's three
- 54:14in the Mazda dealer lot down the road.
- 54:16You know, I granted now they've been out for a year or something,
- 54:18but if they're in that high demand, so I think they're pretty cool.
- 54:21I think they still have an identity crisis front end rear end kind of thing,
- 54:24but, uh, I'm kind of excited to see
- 54:26that rear end is.
- 54:27Just tragic.
- 54:28I don't think the Z06 is going to make it better from that spy photo though.
- 54:32The wing looked different.
- 54:33So much like that civic type bar we talked about, it's getting another
- 54:36ridiculous wing upgrade on the back.
- 54:38So maybe that'll help that Camaro.
- 54:39They grafted onto the back of it though.
- 54:41Just
- 54:42in the perception though, did you see the picture I posted on garage
- 54:44ride of the guy that I was behind that said L Lambo on his tag?
- 54:48Oh yeah.
- 54:49Yeah.
- 54:49I don't know about that.
- 54:50Yeah, I don't know about that either.
- 54:52I mean, at the end of the day, what I do know, and I'm still
- 54:54holding out hope for is the 400Z.
- 54:57If they're right about the price and the car is as fast as they say
- 55:00it's going to be, it looks good.
- 55:02It's going to sound good.
- 55:03It's going to be good.
- 55:05I'm putting a lot of faith in Renault, right?
- 55:07The parent company of Nissan to get this right, to do the heritage thing.
- 55:10They've done a good resto on that.
- 55:12If the price point is anywhere between 50 and 60, I think that car is going
- 55:16to sell like crazy and it's going to be that replacement for the Corvette, right?
- 55:21That folks like us want, unless you buy a used C7.
- 55:24Switching gears back to Ford for a moment.
- 55:26Remember last month, I mentioned the Maverick and we talked about the factory
- 55:30in India that was closing and Ford was losing money and apparently the
- 55:33Maverick was supposed to built there.
- 55:34Guess what?
- 55:35It's going to be built in America.
- 55:37And the guys from Jalopnik have already driven one.
- 55:39I thought the article was rather entertaining.
- 55:41He does a really good job of comparing this Maverick to what it could be.
- 55:47So he compares it to like a Spitfire.
- 55:49That's a Triumph for those that don't know.
- 55:51He compares it to a previous generation F 150.
- 55:54He compares it to the Ford Capri.
- 55:56He compares it to all sorts of other things to say where
- 55:59it got its design inspiration.
- 56:01I look at it and go, this is the Ranger.
- 56:04The real Ranger that we were supposed to get, not this other
- 56:08thing with a four cylinder.
- 56:09That's the size of an F one 50.
- 56:11I think it's cool.
- 56:12And I do agree with him in his early part of the statement where he compares it
- 56:16to the BW combi, which is for those that don't know the type two Vanagon as a.
- 56:22truck without a cap on it.
- 56:24The Maverick has a very similar look to it.
- 56:26I think it's kind of cool and you could do some really tasteful mods to it to give
- 56:32it that combi kind of feel, especially out in California with some surfboards
- 56:36and different kind of rims and things.
- 56:37If you're looking for a pickup truck of that style, is it useful for every day?
- 56:42I don't know, but it's still going to be relatively large.
- 56:46Probably Canyon, Colorado size.
- 56:48Like I said, the way the Ranger should have been not the size of the old F 150.
- 56:54That blue didn't help.
- 56:55Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 56:57I mean, it's boring to me.
- 56:59I, you know, I think the article is kind of neat, but I think it's a little
- 57:01bit of a stretch where, you know, he talks about the Capri front end
- 57:05piece, but he's trying to jazzercise
- 57:07it, right?
- 57:07You're like, ah, it's so exciting.
- 57:10Yeah, I mean,
- 57:10I'll say this.
- 57:11I think this is all you really say.
- 57:12It starts at 19, nine, you know, it is your go to Hertz and rent a car.
- 57:16That's what they're going to pull around with.
- 57:18I mean, most of the ones in the picture here have the steel wheels on them.
- 57:20So the shape's a little odd though, to me, it's kind of like first gen Ridge line.
- 57:24Yes.
- 57:25Yeah.
- 57:25I see that too.
- 57:26Yeah.
- 57:27I mean, I do like where Ford's going with the trucks and stuff.
- 57:29They're like, the Broncos are cool.
- 57:30Even the little one, I think it has potential, man.
- 57:32I think like this to me could be the next like kid tuner truck, you
- 57:36know, the nineties, the little C10 or whatever, everybody has C10s
- 57:40and the Tacomas and all those, the Jimmy's and whatnot.
- 57:43Yeah.
- 57:44So I think this has a place in the market for sure.
- 57:46I didn't see all the engine options.
- 57:48What is a four cylinder?
- 57:50Was there a EcoBoost
- 57:51like from the Mustang and from the Bronco and all those.
- 57:54So I mean, it's fine.
- 57:55I mean, this would be like your 16 year old son needs something new and reliable.
- 57:58We'll go buy him one of these.
- 58:00Exactly.
- 58:01Like everything else, Ford is changing, right?
- 58:03We're starting to see, I heard somebody say the other day, they understand now my
- 58:08comments about why the Mach E looks just like an Escape because it's built on it.
- 58:13I mean, there's some platform sharing going on with Ford.
- 58:15Good for them.
- 58:17You know, that's a good thing.
- 58:18That's a smart move following after the Germans, but they are
- 58:21innovating and there's some really cool features on the F 150 that.
- 58:24We didn't really know about another funny article from Jalopnik.
- 58:28It's kind of a lesser known capability of the F 150 and they've been teasing
- 58:33this idea of self scaling trucks for a while and Ford has actually done it.
- 58:39And the only way you can tell.
- 58:41That it's active and working is by looking at the rear taillights.
- 58:44There's a set of LEDs buried in the inner part of the rear taillight that light up
- 58:49like a progress bar to let you know where your toe limit and your toe capacity is.
- 58:54And I actually think as somebody who toes all the time, you're
- 58:57telling the race car and everything.
- 58:58I think that's brilliant because I don't have a way of judging
- 59:01that other than with my eyes.
- 59:03And then my air suspension kind of takes care of the rest of it.
- 59:05So I'm kind of wondering, you know, when can I adapt this to something else?
- 59:09You know, I think this is really, really cool.
- 59:10I think that when fifties are super cool, always have, I think it's amazing.
- 59:14And what I think is really cool, like with the scale and the tail lights
- 59:17and a lot of the things that the truck manufacturers are doing, they're trying
- 59:20to outdo each other and all of the features they can come up with, right?
- 59:23How many ways can I.
- 59:24Create a foldable tailgate that has speakers in it and steps in
- 59:28it and everything else to me.
- 59:29You know, it's crazy to think that in a lot of ways they already are pickup
- 59:33trucks out there are some of the most technologically advanced vehicles
- 59:36on the road, which is pretty crazy.
- 59:37And what is it?
- 59:38Ford sells 2, 500 F.
- 59:40One fifties a day, it's like
- 59:42the fastest selling car in North America.
- 59:44Good for them.
- 59:44And, you know, I think, you know, that, that market obviously is very
- 59:47competitive, not as much for them because they're crushing it, but it's
- 59:50these little things that are going to keep them, you know, ahead of the
- 59:52pack that, you know, there's all these neat little features that people need.
- 59:56You know, it's neat, you, like you just said, you could use
- 59:58that in towing or you imagine somebody doing something like that.
- 1:00:00It's not just a flashy something.
- 1:00:02It's not LEDs under them or neons underneath.
- 1:00:05It's something usable.
- 1:00:06So I think it's really, really cool.
- 1:00:07Now it's time to move on to Brad's favorite section.
- 1:00:10Lost and Found, which covers hidden secrets, historical
- 1:00:15news, and things like that.
- 1:00:16So first up, this month, a video came across my desk.
- 1:00:19I believe it was from Garage Riot, and it is the most interesting, over dramatized,
- 1:00:24and boring video I have ever watched.
- 1:00:27It all wraps itself around a long lost, AMC, American Voter Corporation, AMX 3.
- 1:00:35For some of you, you're all groaning, going, Oh, the
- 1:00:37gremlin, oh, the pacer, ugh.
- 1:00:39You know, yes, they're all crap, I get it.
- 1:00:41However, the AMX 3 is special in the fact that it is a prototype.
- 1:00:46It was built from 1969 1970.
- 1:00:48There are six different versions of it that were publicly seen and released.
- 1:00:52There were nine total.
- 1:00:54And apparently the backstory on this car and the story, this whole story
- 1:00:58could be told in like three minutes, but they drag it out in this video.
- 1:01:02But some guy is, I don't know, on Facebook marketplace or something.
- 1:01:06And he stumbled across this dude with this giant, like Clown bow tie thing.
- 1:01:10And I don't even know why he's shopping for this in the background.
- 1:01:13He happens to be a car guy.
- 1:01:14And he's like, wait, is that an AMX?
- 1:01:16And they had heard some rumors about this car being lost in
- 1:01:19Michigan, somewhere in this net.
- 1:01:21And then they discover the car.
- 1:01:22Right.
- 1:01:22And so the car was actually built by Carmen in Germany, who's famous for
- 1:01:27also building many other famous cars, like the Scirocco and some of the
- 1:01:32Audis and BMWs and things like that.
- 1:01:33So there.
- 1:01:34A coach builder and so they helped a MC build this mid-engine two-door
- 1:01:39sports car that very much looks like a Pantera, just smaller, right?
- 1:01:44So a ditch Mazo Pantera.
- 1:01:46And so pretty cool car.
- 1:01:47Not a lot of history on it.
- 1:01:49Only resources out there outside of the A MC club and things like that.
- 1:01:53You go to Wikipedia and there's a big writeup on these cars and their evolution
- 1:01:57and BMW was involved with them and, uh, in Carmen and Volkswagen, et cetera.
- 1:02:01So a lot of hands in building these prototypes.
- 1:02:04It just never really went anywhere because AMC didn't last too much
- 1:02:08longer into the seventies before they got absorbed by Jeep and Chrysler and
- 1:02:12the Lee Iacocca era of Dodge, right?
- 1:02:15And Plymouth and all those, those companies being rebranded and reformed
- 1:02:18and amalgamated, which by the way, guys, if you didn't know, Jeep was part of AMC
- 1:02:23a lot, which is why Chrysler bought them.
- 1:02:25But at any rate, moving on from that, what other things?
- 1:02:30Did we find that we can buy on places like bring a trailer and
- 1:02:33cars and bids there, Donovan?
- 1:02:35Oh, there's a fairly low mile GTI right now.
- 1:02:39It's an 84 with 63, 000 miles that I've got my, uh, papers on.
- 1:02:44Car is beautiful.
- 1:02:45It looks, you know, from the pictures, it looks almost Mint.
- 1:02:48It has horrible, horrible.
- 1:02:50What are those Chrome side panels on the side?
- 1:02:53Mm-Hmm?
- 1:02:53. That R, was that a factory option?
- 1:02:55I don't remember it being one, but it could have been.
- 1:02:58But all the ones I knew were, they only came in three colors.
- 1:03:01Silver, red, and black.
- 1:03:02And then your interior choices were black, blue, jean or pumpkin?
- 1:03:06Pumpkin.
- 1:03:06I don't think I've seen the pumpkin in.
- 1:03:07So I'm, uh, let's see.
- 1:03:09We've got three days left.
- 1:03:10It's a 27 5, um, 27
- 1:03:125 for a mark.
- 1:03:13One GTI.
- 1:03:14Are you nuts?
- 1:03:14You can buy a golf cart for that price.
- 1:03:16I'm betting this car goes over 40, so, uh, pretty cool.
- 1:03:21But, uh, yeah, I'd like to, I've been looking for one for a while and I think,
- 1:03:25you know, it's probably gotten to the point where there are more than I'm
- 1:03:27interested in, in buying particularly this one, but we'll see, you never know.
- 1:03:31Maybe one day I hate
- 1:03:32to say if I was standing in your garage and you have the keys to
- 1:03:35the Gallardo in one hand, the keys to a GTI and the other one.
- 1:03:38Probably going to pick the GTI, just letting you know,
- 1:03:42that's the car enthusiast though.
- 1:03:43Right.
- 1:03:43Then, you know, that's, that's exactly it.
- 1:03:45But there's also, I just saw there's a 32 mile BMW M4 GTS on here, which
- 1:03:50is pretty interesting as well.
- 1:03:52I don't need another F 80.
- 1:03:53BMW, but I actually shopped those before I bought the Gallardo.
- 1:03:56That was consideration.
- 1:03:57And, uh, I'm glad I did.
- 1:03:59It's
- 1:03:59only 4 million.
- 1:04:00I'll bring a trailer, right?
- 1:04:01They're in the nineties usually, but this one, yeah, with 32 miles, it's probably
- 1:04:05going to be something stupid, but yeah, it was too close to what I already have.
- 1:04:07The other thing on here, I'll just mention cause I saw it is
- 1:04:09there's an old BMW bike on here.
- 1:04:11If anybody listening has one or knows of one, I want one, I don't want it running.
- 1:04:17And if the engine doesn't work, that's cool.
- 1:04:18I just think they're cool to look at.
- 1:04:19I like to park it in the man cave somewhere.
- 1:04:21But yeah, you're
- 1:04:22talking BMW motorcycle, right?
- 1:04:24Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:25Sorry.
- 1:04:26Not bike.
- 1:04:26Like we were talking earlier, but yeah, pre 1960s motorcycle.
- 1:04:30I also saw that Pablo Escobar's.
- 1:04:34911 was for sale.
- 1:04:35Yeah.
- 1:04:36Everybody's going through the jokes right now in their head.
- 1:04:38For sure.
- 1:04:38Right.
- 1:04:39So the back history on this thing, I looked at the pictures ago.
- 1:04:41Oh, I know that car.
- 1:04:42That's Emo's car.
- 1:04:43And what do I mean by Emo's car?
- 1:04:45Emerson Fittipaldi's car.
- 1:04:46So that was a Penske built 9 11.
- 1:04:49I rock RSR international race of champions, something we don't do anymore.
- 1:04:53And I am missed.
- 1:04:54Deeply.
- 1:04:54I thought IROC was super cool to see all the champs from all the different
- 1:04:58disciplines going at each other in different cars, every year, MO sold
- 1:05:02that car to a Porsche aficionado who ran a Rolex almost kind of thing.
- 1:05:05And I don't know how it ended up in Pablo Escobar's hands.
- 1:05:08And then eventually made its way back to the States in the nineties.
- 1:05:11Apparently the car has gone through a heck of an evolution to get
- 1:05:14it back to its original state.
- 1:05:15Apparently Escobar had a wide bodied it to a nine 35 style,
- 1:05:20you know, a bunch of other stuff.
- 1:05:21Nothing that I.
- 1:05:23Would take issue with because it's all classic nine 11 stuff, but for
- 1:05:25the purist to say, this is Emerson Fittipaldi's IROC car, obviously we
- 1:05:29got to bring it back to standard.
- 1:05:31The going rate on that auction at the time of reading the article was
- 1:05:36a low, low, low price of 856, 000.
- 1:05:401, 000.
- 1:05:42So yeah, let me, I'm going to get to, but speaking of other
- 1:05:44weird things, when I bring up the word winkle, what do you think?
- 1:05:49Not wanker, not wanker.
- 1:05:51Oh, okay.
- 1:05:52That's different.
- 1:05:53I think
- 1:05:54in the auto mechanic shop,
- 1:05:58wanker working on the
- 1:05:59winkle or you think Mazda, right?
- 1:06:01You immediately go RX seven, right?
- 1:06:03Anything rotary power for those that don't know, or is it broken?
- 1:06:07Not really.
- 1:06:08What is it?
- 1:06:10Frederick Winkle or whatever his name is.
- 1:06:12Fred Winkle.
- 1:06:13He designed this engine apparently when he was 17 years old, probably
- 1:06:17playing with a spirograph, but actually it was invented in the 1920s.
- 1:06:20He patented way back when, you know, the first Winkle powered cars or rotary
- 1:06:24engine cars came from NSU and Mazda just about the same time, 1961, 1964.
- 1:06:29As I've always said, if the Germans, Thought it was a good idea.
- 1:06:32They would have hung on to it.
- 1:06:33So, you know, the Wankel has forever lived on in Mazda's portfolio into the RX cars.
- 1:06:39But did you know that there was a motorcycle powered by a Wankel?
- 1:06:43Is that better or worse?
- 1:06:46So when you watch this video, which is kind of weird because
- 1:06:49it's got a male Siri voice.
- 1:06:52And then there's actual footage of bikes running at like motocross
- 1:06:55events and things like that.
- 1:06:56At first I was like, that's just a regular old two stroke.
- 1:06:58Like, why do I, what do I care?
- 1:07:00And then suddenly it does like 27, 000 RPM.
- 1:07:03And you're like, well, that's really, really different.
- 1:07:05So as you dig into this very long video that came to us via mountain
- 1:07:09man, Dan, part of his whole mountain view thing that he's doing, it's a
- 1:07:12single rotor Wankel powered dirt bike.
- 1:07:15It's mounted horizontally in there.
- 1:07:18It's all this.
- 1:07:19Really interesting engineering to make it work and make it fit.
- 1:07:21So it's not super huge and doesn't have like 12 spark plugs hanging out from it.
- 1:07:25It's actually quite compact and almost looks like an AC motor
- 1:07:28attached to the bike and the way it works and made by a company called
- 1:07:32Hercules, which I know Hercules from the pedal bikes from England.
- 1:07:36So I didn't do enough research to see if there was a connection
- 1:07:39there between the two brands.
- 1:07:40They were, it was just neat.
- 1:07:41But at the end of the day, I'm like, whatever it's.
- 1:07:44It's a rotary and it's a dirt bike and I wouldn't know what to do with it.
- 1:07:48A couple fun facts, right?
- 1:07:49He was not trained at a university.
- 1:07:51Pretty interesting for a guy that created that.
- 1:07:53Like Dr.
- 1:07:53Porsche?
- 1:07:54Yeah, he was a big time Nazi sympathizer, participator guy,
- 1:07:58but did give us the 787B, so.
- 1:08:01Well,
- 1:08:02indirectly, I suppose.
- 1:08:03Indirectly, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:04That's, that's by, uh, by proxy.
- 1:08:06Well, that wraps up Lost and Found for this month.
- 1:08:08Well, now it's time to move on to random new EVs and concept cars.
- 1:08:12But we dovetail right into a Restomod and there's another British company
- 1:08:17converting classic cars to EVs.
- 1:08:20And this time it's Aston Martin DBs and we're talking DBs 4s, 5s, and 6s.
- 1:08:28They're starting with the DB6s, which not to be confused with the famous
- 1:08:32James Bond DB5, is a slightly larger version with similar lines to it.
- 1:08:36What I got out of this, super awesome, but the price tag.
- 1:08:41Is extremely hefty because a number one, you have to buy a
- 1:08:44rare Aston Martin to begin with, and then you have to convert it.
- 1:08:48It's going to cost you upwards of anybody want to take a guess.
- 1:08:51Million bucks.
- 1:08:52Yes, sir.
- 1:08:53That's a million dollars for an EV.
- 1:08:55How many Teslas can I buy for that?
- 1:08:56So, okay, I'm going to compare this to a 911.
- 1:09:00How many 911s do you see these days that somebody cut and put wide fenders on
- 1:09:04and ruined a car that was once valuable?
- 1:09:07Because at the time, they thought that was the cool thing to do.
- 1:09:10And now you look at it and go, Oh my God, you destroyed that car.
- 1:09:13That's what I see.
- 1:09:13But
- 1:09:13you have to look at it for the time period.
- 1:09:15If you're looking at the seventies and eighties, they made a lot of 911s.
- 1:09:20There's a lot of nine elevens.
- 1:09:21You could say the same thing.
- 1:09:22Why'd you turn that piece of historical, you know, investment into a race car.
- 1:09:26There's a lot of nine elevens that have been thrashed and trashed,
- 1:09:29so there's so many of them.
- 1:09:30Unless it's Emerson Fit, Aldi's nine 11.
- 1:09:33Does it matter if it was cut up?
- 1:09:34It was just somebody's base model nine 11 At the end of the day,
- 1:09:37not, yeah, you're right.
- 1:09:38Not at the time, but now.
- 1:09:39But you know, to me it's like, you know, I looked at, I think we talked
- 1:09:42about this on graduate as well, you know, I've been looking at EV swap in
- 1:09:45the nine 11, the 73, and you know, the thing that appeals to me about that is.
- 1:09:49You know, there's a company that does a swap, but the thing that's
- 1:09:52great about it is it's a direct bolt.
- 1:09:54There's no cutting the body.
- 1:09:56There's no modifying the chassis that really appeals to me.
- 1:09:59Right.
- 1:09:59And the kit is something like 15, 000, which is basically the cost
- 1:10:02of a rebuild of the motor itself.
- 1:10:04You got a car like mine that the motor has been sitting outside the car.
- 1:10:08Since 1986.
- 1:10:10Maybe that's the way to go.
- 1:10:11But what I really like about that is you can take it back out.
- 1:10:13You didn't hurt anything.
- 1:10:14I have to assume that's what they've done here, but I don't understand
- 1:10:18the million dollar price tag.
- 1:10:19If I can convert a nine 11 for under 20, 000, what kind of batteries exactly
- 1:10:25are we using for this Aston Martin here?
- 1:10:27That's a million dollars.
- 1:10:28They're shaken, not stirred, right?
- 1:10:30Special ones,
- 1:10:31or they're doing some special body work and some reconfiguring of this car that
- 1:10:35You know, is going to take it out of collector view in the future years, if
- 1:10:39they try to cut it back or turn it back.
- 1:10:40So I don't know, it sounds cool, but then again, you know, it gets back
- 1:10:43to lots of things we've talked about.
- 1:10:45If a real car enthusiast wants that feel, wants that sound, I think you're
- 1:10:49going the wrong way in the DV six.
- 1:10:51And again, after 2030, somebody is going to look at this when they're
- 1:10:55all of their cars or EVs and go.
- 1:10:57Man, I wish this still had the petrol engine in it because that's different.
- 1:11:00So how much
- 1:11:01does it devalue a classic, even though they're going to turn around and sell
- 1:11:04it for a million bucks, it's not going to be worth a million dollars, right?
- 1:11:07Cause let's face it, it's no longer in American terms, a
- 1:11:10numbers matching car, not that.
- 1:11:12Older European cars had a whole numbers matching system like the Americans
- 1:11:16did, but it kind of takes away from it.
- 1:11:18But so yes, from the outside, it's still db six or db five, but yeah,
- 1:11:21it's not James Bond's right now, even though Q might've built an
- 1:11:25Evie db five for, for Sean Connery.
- 1:11:28Well, and it's crazy because db sixes are half a million dollars, right?
- 1:11:31You know, you buy one and you do that to it.
- 1:11:33And then, you know, you got to swap it back, but it's crazy.
- 1:11:36Well, I heard that Volvos.
- 1:11:37Making a game change.
- 1:11:39Apparently they're getting on with the EV revolution as well.
- 1:11:42And I think they've made a commitment to go electric only by 2030.
- 1:11:47But along with that, they're also making a sustainability commitment.
- 1:11:51And so they're switching some of their interior materials of construction
- 1:11:55to more sustainable textiles.
- 1:11:58So.
- 1:11:58I'm kind of surprised.
- 1:11:59I didn't realize that Volvo was still offering real leather interiors.
- 1:12:04Cause I thought pretty much most everybody had moved away from real leather to,
- 1:12:08you know, synthetic leather, which is nothing but plastic aside from your
- 1:12:11Ferraris or your Porsches or, or, you know, something very high end.
- 1:12:14So kudos for them, but also more kudos for them, I guess, for not.
- 1:12:18Wanting to continue to slaughter cows to make car seats.
- 1:12:22I think they've got a whole slew of materials that they're going to use
- 1:12:24that are more sustainable recycled pet bottles, polyethylene, not pet like
- 1:12:30an animal, but PET bottles, corks from wine industry, materials like that,
- 1:12:35that are more bio and recyclable.
- 1:12:36They're going to use to make interior textiles essentially.
- 1:12:41And apparently they will still offer some, I didn't realize either.
- 1:12:44Apparently they have wool interiors, I guess.
- 1:12:47Maybe there's some wool in, in some of their fabrics, but that's going to
- 1:12:51be itchy there.
- 1:12:53Well, it depends.
- 1:12:53Some, some of it can be woven quite smooth, but yeah.
- 1:12:56Well, people complain about leather being hot in the summer.
- 1:12:59What is a wool
- 1:13:01set of
- 1:13:01seats going to be like,
- 1:13:02I don't know.
- 1:13:03There's so many things shocking me in this, in this article.
- 1:13:05They're also committing to making sure that I guess whatever sheep farms
- 1:13:10that are getting their sheared wool.
- 1:13:13It's certified responsible wool sourcing.
- 1:13:17Does the
- 1:13:17Volvo come with like a full history, medical shots and
- 1:13:20like adoption papers too?
- 1:13:22I mean, it's like an episode of Portlandia when you go and buy a new Volvo, right?
- 1:13:27Here's the problem though.
- 1:13:28What does it smell like?
- 1:13:29Like sheep,
- 1:13:30well, your seats might smell like maybe a fine aged wine.
- 1:13:33If it's coming from the corks, just kidding.
- 1:13:35Well, they're calling
- 1:13:36this new textile Nordico, if I pronounce that correctly.
- 1:13:39And you're right.
- 1:13:39It's made from a combination of different recycled materials.
- 1:13:42I just have a feeling that you're going to get in the car and go cool.
- 1:13:46This feels like when they make a playground out of recycled tires.
- 1:13:50No,
- 1:13:50you know, probably it's going to feel like pleather.
- 1:13:53I also think it's a lot along the lines of that mini Cooper that we talked about
- 1:13:57where they call that the strip or that guy designed things out of cork and
- 1:14:00other materials in that mini Cooper that we joked about, you know, who's going
- 1:14:04to buy that stripped down race car.
- 1:14:05But now it sounds like Volvo might be taking a page out of that book.
- 1:14:08I mean, honestly, as long as the touch sensation isn't gross,
- 1:14:13weird, you know, can't be any worse than that.
- 1:14:17Soft touch stuff from the early two thousands that every European car had,
- 1:14:21which is great until, you know, 15 to 20 years later, it becomes a sticky
- 1:14:25nightmare mess that stains everything.
- 1:14:27But anyway, digress.
- 1:14:28I mean, as long as it's not a weird feeling, who cares?
- 1:14:31I mean, it's done.
- 1:14:32Better that we find a use for all this plastic and waste that we're generating,
- 1:14:36that's, you know, more sustainable.
- 1:14:38And if they can then re recycle the materials in the future, I mean,
- 1:14:42that's just a win for the environment.
- 1:14:44So, I mean, as long as it's not terrible, I don't see a problem with it.
- 1:14:48I mean, good on them for innovating in that space.
- 1:14:50What does it smell like?
- 1:14:52I don't know!
- 1:14:54Crayons!
- 1:14:54That's what everybody says Volkswagen smell like after a while.
- 1:14:58It's true they do smell like old crayons.
- 1:14:59It's weird.
- 1:15:00It's gonna have a smell, right?
- 1:15:01Every car has a smell, and like, all E36 M3s smell a certain way, all, you know,
- 1:15:06certain whatever smell the same way.
- 1:15:08It's gonna have a smell, especially as it starts to break down.
- 1:15:10Well, as long as it's not
- 1:15:11offensive, who cares?
- 1:15:13I don't know.
- 1:15:13What does partially broken down plastic smell like?
- 1:15:15Not good.
- 1:15:16Well, moving on, I'm going to bring up a name that some of you may know, and
- 1:15:21others may not Gordon Murray awkwardly pause for you to guess who that is,
- 1:15:26former designer of McLaren has spun off and started to develop his own cars.
- 1:15:31The very first one he designed, he calls it the T 50.
- 1:15:34And now he's introducing a cheaper version, even though the T 50 isn't
- 1:15:37available for anybody called the T 33.
- 1:15:39So I'm already kind of thinking like, what?
- 1:15:40Tesla S versus Tesla three and all this.
- 1:15:43I bring this car up.
- 1:15:45I was digging around a little bit and maybe it was the gods of the interweb, you
- 1:15:48know, targeted ads and things like that.
- 1:15:50And things coming across my desk.
- 1:15:52I happen to be having a conversation with, and spoiler alert here,
- 1:15:56Gonzalo, the CEO of heel tread.
- 1:15:59And he mentioned this as his.
- 1:16:01You know, sexiest car of all time poster on his wall.
- 1:16:03This is the car he strives to get.
- 1:16:06He wants this T 50 Gordon Murray.
- 1:16:09And so as I was digging around, I discovered all this other stuff about it.
- 1:16:12I think it's beautiful.
- 1:16:13The first time I saw it, I was like, wow, it looks like the modern
- 1:16:15interpretation of the F1 in that orange, that bright orange color.
- 1:16:18I think is.
- 1:16:19It's gorgeous, the silver, a little less, but let's be honest.
- 1:16:23It is, it is a newer version of the F1, which I think is really, really cool.
- 1:16:26And the back I think is fantastic.
- 1:16:29It's interesting.
- 1:16:29How much is the T33 going to be?
- 1:16:31And I don't see an Exxon like performance wise.
- 1:16:34Nope.
- 1:16:34I don't, I don't think there's really anything out there.
- 1:16:36Cause there's not a whole lot of information on the T50 either.
- 1:16:39I know that production will be limited to about a hundred units.
- 1:16:42So, you know, that when they're building cars, boutique like that, you know, sub
- 1:16:461000 numbers, they're going to go for it.
- 1:16:48Astronomical pricing.
- 1:16:50I mean, I'm going to guess here 250k easily.
- 1:16:53It's got to be more than that.
- 1:16:55I'm looking at the T 50 Niki Lauda version with the four liter B12.
- 1:16:59There we go.
- 1:17:00That's going to be incredible.
- 1:17:01That's the big, is there a fan in the back?
- 1:17:04I can't quite figure that out.
- 1:17:05Yeah.
- 1:17:05That's like this weird chaparral thing that they're doing
- 1:17:07with the fan in the back.
- 1:17:09And if you notice this, like you mentioned about the F1, because I
- 1:17:12believe Gordon Murray was involved even way back then with McLaren, it has that
- 1:17:15almost centered seating position with the offset driver's seat and all that.
- 1:17:19So it's almost a single seat cockpit and, you know, Lambo style doors and whatnot.
- 1:17:24So it is an interesting design.
- 1:17:25You're right.
- 1:17:26It's kind of a modern version of the F1, not a fan of low offset wheels.
- 1:17:30I just.
- 1:17:31I miss the deep dish wheels of the 80s and 90s.
- 1:17:36It has some Pagani look to it too from the rear.
- 1:17:39I mean, he's definitely borrowing some design cues.
- 1:17:41I think the headlights look like he stole them right off of a 918.
- 1:17:44You know, it's just, there's only a couple of designs at the end of the day, right?
- 1:17:48I'm not saying it's ugly, but I feel like I've seen some of this before.
- 1:17:51I think that's a good point.
- 1:17:52The more you look at it, I saw it a few weeks ago and then I
- 1:17:55saw it again earlier this week.
- 1:17:56It does start to look a little bit familiar, which is concerning.
- 1:18:00Right.
- 1:18:00You know, you see something and maybe the first time you're like, I don't know.
- 1:18:04And then it grows on you and you start to appreciate that.
- 1:18:06This is kind of the opposite to me.
- 1:18:07It was, it was kind of hot flash at the beginning.
- 1:18:09I wonder how sustainable that is, right.
- 1:18:11You start to like really looking at the side of you now you're
- 1:18:13like, it's a proportion, right.
- 1:18:15But yeah, I love the interior, you know, obviously being kind of an independent.
- 1:18:19You know, boutique manufacturer, they can't do all the crazy electronics.
- 1:18:21So I like all the toggle switches on the ride.
- 1:18:23Like the old style, just flip switches are really, really cool.
- 1:18:26I bet it's amazing to drive.
- 1:18:28That is not my cup of tea.
- 1:18:29And the rear end is not particularly attractive.
- 1:18:32Kind of reminiscent of the GT40 that has that Angry Birds rear
- 1:18:37end look.
- 1:18:37I give you that.
- 1:18:38I give you that.
- 1:18:39I mean, like I see, I see the Pagani in there too, you know, where that fan is.
- 1:18:42Think about those four exhaust pipes coming up the middle.
- 1:18:45It's like the same thing, you know?
- 1:18:46So it's odd, but I'm curious to see what the numbers are again, nothing about
- 1:18:50whether it's going to be a hybrid or if it's going to be an EV or whatever.
- 1:18:54Cool to look at for the moment.
- 1:18:55You know, you need to have the Matchbox car version in my case.
- 1:18:58That's in my collection.
- 1:18:59That's for sure.
- 1:19:00But kind of switching gears to another car that triggered an emotion for me
- 1:19:04on multiple levels, the Pieck or the however, you don't want to pronounce it.
- 1:19:08Some people say peach, et cetera, but Pieck as in Ferdinand Pieck, the cousin
- 1:19:13nephew, the Porsche Pieck family, there is now a Swiss manufacturer using the
- 1:19:18Pieck name to come out with a classic sports car look for the electric age.
- 1:19:24So this is not.
- 1:19:26An EV restomod.
- 1:19:27This is a ground up designed in their, you know, laboratory car.
- 1:19:31They're boasting 603 horsepower and it's supposed to be a GT cruiser, right?
- 1:19:35A boulevard cruiser grand touring car.
- 1:19:37The Swiss mark Piek was founded in 2017.
- 1:19:40I think that coincides right along with when Ferdinand Piek.
- 1:19:45Passed away, but I was also kind of thinking, you know, what other
- 1:19:48Swiss brands have there been out there outside of is Dara, right?
- 1:19:51The commendatory and all the prototypes that they built and stuff like that.
- 1:19:54You don't see a lot of cars coming out of, out of Switzerland or the Swiss
- 1:19:57Alps because all the restrictions they have, obviously it's going to be an EV.
- 1:20:00It's going to be.
- 1:20:02that's important.
- 1:20:03I thought it was low weight.
- 1:20:0539 68 is the current weight on the car, which compared to a lot of other EVs
- 1:20:10you're hearing Teslas and some of these Audis weighing five and 6, 000 pounds
- 1:20:13with their battery packs and whatnot.
- 1:20:15Tanya knows more about the kilowatt hours.
- 1:20:18They're claiming a 75 kilowatt hour battery.
- 1:20:21That's going to allow up to 310 miles of Range.
- 1:20:24So I thought that was pretty good.
- 1:20:26Zero to 60 numbers of three seconds and zero to one 20 in nine seconds.
- 1:20:31Before I give you my hot take on this car, I want to get your guys feedback
- 1:20:35on what you think it looks like.
- 1:20:36The profile looks like a Ferrari that I can't remember the numbers of.
- 1:20:41I think the side profile nailed it.
- 1:20:43I think it's gorgeous to me.
- 1:20:45It's kind of Aston Martin ish, Ferrari, California ish, but better.
- 1:20:49And then in the article, as I start to go down, I start to see other angles.
- 1:20:52The front end reminds me of the TVR was the one of the late nineties T vs.
- 1:20:57Tuscan.
- 1:20:58I think the back's okay, but then when you see the Threequarter front
- 1:21:01shot, I'm like, Nope, I'm out.
- 1:21:02It's like a . Nope, I'm out.
- 1:21:05Love it.
- 1:21:05Vanilla Aston Martin looking kind of car, but side profile is.
- 1:21:10Beautiful light that that's wall art, like, you know,
- 1:21:12poster, the rest, not so much.
- 1:21:14So I agree with the front end, very Aston Lotus look like the old Elans with
- 1:21:19that big kind of gaping, you know, hole.
- 1:21:21And then some angles, if you close one, I kind of was like
- 1:21:24Miata from the front as well.
- 1:21:25The back has that look like a 400 Z it's got a similar tail to it, which I
- 1:21:30actually like that coming together of the, of the wide hips and the integrated
- 1:21:34ducktail and the lift back and all that.
- 1:21:36The side profile, I agree dead on looks really good, but you know,
- 1:21:40which car reminds me of the most and Tanya is going to go, Oh yeah,
- 1:21:43that one, the Alfa Romeo eight C
- 1:21:46I can see that.
- 1:21:48Window shape, maybe.
- 1:21:49Yep.
- 1:21:49Yeah.
- 1:21:49It has a very similar style look.
- 1:21:52Even when you look at the headlights and stuff, you're like,
- 1:21:54really looks like the Alfa Romeo.
- 1:21:55And I'm okay with that.
- 1:21:57I think this car would look better in a different color other than
- 1:22:00this tungsten that it comes in.
- 1:22:02Maybe with some accents and things.
- 1:22:04I think it would look kind of cool in something else.
- 1:22:06I'd like to see some other pictures of it, but I would drive one.
- 1:22:09I think this is really neat.
- 1:22:10I don't see any interior shots.
- 1:22:12Something about the back is very familiar and I can't quite place it.
- 1:22:15Is it another TBR?
- 1:22:16Like the Z
- 1:22:17car?
- 1:22:17It looks like an old Z car.
- 1:22:18Yeah.
- 1:22:19You know, and you gotta give them props though.
- 1:22:20I mean that, you know, a lot of concept cars come out or, you know, these,
- 1:22:23these boutique manufacturers and they're like, man, you can't actually,
- 1:22:26this looks like something that People right away and sell really well.
- 1:22:30So
- 1:22:30they're saying we're gonna have to wait until 2024 though.
- 1:22:33So we're a little ways off before we get to see final production, get to see
- 1:22:37the car, you know, behind, you know, with Chris Harris behind the wheel on
- 1:22:41on top gear or something like that.
- 1:22:42But I'm really curious to see what happens.
- 1:22:45I don't know that they listed a price tag on this yet, but I can
- 1:22:48only imagine that this car is gonna cost a hundred grand, if not more.
- 1:22:52I mean, there's nailed it,
- 1:22:5299,000.
- 1:22:53Oh, no, sorry.
- 1:22:54That's the competitor.
- 1:22:55Yeah.
- 1:22:55They're going to compete against the Audi e tron GT, which we
- 1:22:58mentioned earlier with the Stig.
- 1:23:00So kind of cool.
- 1:23:00Something different, you know, very definitely pretty to look at.
- 1:23:03I would also add that to my Hot Wheels collection if there was one available.
- 1:23:08Me too.
- 1:23:09So the last one, is it something that's going to be mainstream or coming
- 1:23:13to the market or something you can purchase anytime soon, but I think
- 1:23:16it's pretty impressive feat by these engineering students, essentially.
- 1:23:20Apologize for mispronunciation, but at the Eindhoven University of Technology,
- 1:23:2522 students designed and built a 100 percent solar powered camper van.
- 1:23:32It took them nine months from design to build, which is pretty impressive
- 1:23:36considering They're students and they don't have access, you know, necessarily
- 1:23:40to Ford manufacturing or equivalent.
- 1:23:43And they took it on a, what was I think technically supposed to be
- 1:23:46a 3000 kilometer journey from the Netherlands to Spain, but the vehicle
- 1:23:51actually only did 2000 of the kilometer.
- 1:23:55So just over 1200 miles, I believe they, they had to tow it the first a
- 1:23:59thousand miles of the journey due to some sort of drive train issue, which.
- 1:24:03Remarkably, they were able to solve and fix and reprint a part
- 1:24:08or whatever that they needed to get it, you know, up and running.
- 1:24:11So I think it's a, it's a good testament to these students and the
- 1:24:14capability of their solar powered car.
- 1:24:16We can easily get into solar power.
- 1:24:20How stupid when it rains, you don't have sun.
- 1:24:23Two, three days for this thing to, you know, fully charge you and say, who,
- 1:24:27man, that's so stupid, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:24:28Take it for the engineering feats and the capability of these 22 individuals.
- 1:24:32I think it's pretty impressive and good on them.
- 1:24:35So I have two questions.
- 1:24:37One of them I'm going to ask for Donovan, which is what does it smell like?
- 1:24:43That's a new segment now.
- 1:24:45What does it smell like?
- 1:24:46The sun.
- 1:24:48Yeah, burning electric and the other one is I applaud them for their ability
- 1:24:53to build this thing because it's pretty epic with like the Westfalia
- 1:24:56roof and these wings that like come out, I guess, which are solar panels
- 1:24:59and all this crazy stuff that it has.
- 1:25:01But why is it shaped like this?
- 1:25:03Like a giant Johnny Cab slash suppository.
- 1:25:07I mean, what is going on with this thing?
- 1:25:09I mean, they must've had some sort of design reason.
- 1:25:12Maybe, you know, they're, if they're students, maybe they did some aerodynamic
- 1:25:15calculations that told them that that's what they should be doing.
- 1:25:18I don't know.
- 1:25:19Or maybe they wanted something funky and futuristic looking.
- 1:25:21How heavy are those doors?
- 1:25:23Those things are huge.
- 1:25:25So they say the whole thing weighs 3, 700 pounds.
- 1:25:29No
- 1:25:29way.
- 1:25:30The specs listed put the weight at 1, 700 kilograms or 3, 748 pounds.
- 1:25:36Wow.
- 1:25:36That, I mean, like any other RV that's made out of tinfoil
- 1:25:41and Well, it's fairing strips.
- 1:25:43It's supposedly an aluminum chassis with glass fiber and aluminum
- 1:25:47foam core on the aeroshell.
- 1:25:49So I'm going to
- 1:25:50give them, I'm going to give them this.
- 1:25:51If their solar technology is what we're really focused on here,
- 1:25:55which it is, it's not the vehicle.
- 1:25:57No, if that, if that solar roof works and if those, whatever those
- 1:26:01butterfly wing things are, when it's fully extended work, you have my
- 1:26:05attention because, you know, this is something we've been talking about,
- 1:26:07you know, Tesla and it was a Fisker.
- 1:26:09promise, you know, these solar roofs and they really never went anywhere.
- 1:26:13Wouldn't it be really cool if you could charge the batteries while you're driving
- 1:26:16around and use the battery power at night or when it rains, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:26:20Like you were saying, if this works, that's the point of this at
- 1:26:24the end of the day, not the fact that it looks like a Johnny cab.
- 1:26:26Well, and I believe that there's a time and a place for
- 1:26:29everything, so to speak, right?
- 1:26:30Diversification.
- 1:26:31of the Energy Portfolio is not a bad thing.
- 1:26:35There can be a good use for this.
- 1:26:38Maybe it's not on the roof of your Tesla or Taycan or whatever as
- 1:26:42you're going to the grocery store.
- 1:26:44But let's go back to those city buses that are doing nothing but sitting
- 1:26:48around or crawling through traffic.
- 1:26:51What if they had some sort of use?
- 1:26:52Solar panel wings that came out and they're able to capture some of that
- 1:26:56sunlight and, you know, transfer it to battery recharge or things like that.
- 1:27:00Maybe there are applications for it and we can diversify the energy
- 1:27:04portfolio that we're not solely bound to one thing or the other,
- 1:27:09you know, they probably would have gotten that first thousand iPhones on the trip.
- 1:27:17I want to know how they got 22 people inside that Johnny cab.
- 1:27:20No, so in fairness, the issue was allegedly had nothing to do with the
- 1:27:23solar panels, but was a mechanical issue again with the drive train.
- 1:27:27And there's only room for two people.
- 1:27:30Wait, that thing's
- 1:27:30the size
- 1:27:31of a
- 1:27:31school bus.
- 1:27:32Well, it's designed for two people.
- 1:27:33Or two people because they have like fricking like pull out
- 1:27:36double sofa bed thing in there and all, and all this other stuff.
- 1:27:39It's a camber man, right?
- 1:27:40It's, it's not designed like a big RV to bring, you know, you and
- 1:27:44your family of six and the dog.
- 1:27:46It's maybe two, maybe three people.
- 1:27:48I don't know.
- 1:27:49But so the real question is, which of the two of the 22
- 1:27:52got to take it on the journey
- 1:27:54con?
- 1:27:54I know what it smells like.
- 1:27:57. It smells like Ikea.
- 1:28:01It smells like Swedish meatballs.
- 1:28:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:04No, you're high.
- 1:28:04Ikea has all that like super lightweight furniture that you got to assemble,
- 1:28:07but this is the Netherlands, not Sweden.
- 1:28:09So it
- 1:28:09doesn't, it doesn't matter.
- 1:28:10I mean, what do you think they put in that thing?
- 1:28:12It's all like three pound tables from like Ikea and stuff.
- 1:28:14So I guess we got to move on since we're already talking, you know, we're talking
- 1:28:17about these new EVs because we would be,
- 1:28:21we would be remiss not to bring up Tesla.
- 1:28:23Oh Lord.
- 1:28:24I mean, nothing bad this month.
- 1:28:26We already knew that Elon moved to Austin, um, personally, a
- 1:28:31year or so ago, I guess now.
- 1:28:32And he lives in one of these solar Eindhoven things.
- 1:28:37No, there's too many round edges on, on the, uh, The glass won't break if you
- 1:28:43throw something at it.
- 1:28:44Yeah.
- 1:28:44There's not, they didn't put the laser beams on the windshield.
- 1:28:47So to wipe the water away.
- 1:28:49Yeah.
- 1:28:49So he personally moved to Texas to be closer to SpaceX and all this other stuff.
- 1:28:55I'm sure he had issue, you know, other issues being angry at California.
- 1:28:59It's been recently announced that he is going to move the headquarters.
- 1:29:03Out of Palo Alto to Austin.
- 1:29:05Nice.
- 1:29:06It was every other Californian
- 1:29:08along with every other big California company.
- 1:29:11And part of it is citing the fact that California is just ridiculous in
- 1:29:16different ways in terms of just congestion and cost of living, you know, aside
- 1:29:21from the very stringent regulations.
- 1:29:24that they have in place and whatnot.
- 1:29:25So, uh, it'll be interesting to see how happy those California
- 1:29:28workers will be to move to Texas.
- 1:29:30They don't plan on shutting down the facilities they have in California.
- 1:29:33If anything, they're, you know, alleging to ramp up production in the,
- 1:29:37in the manufacturing plants there.
- 1:29:39So what I am hopeful here.
- 1:29:41On this one is Tesla moves to Austin.
- 1:29:44Steve Wynn owns DeLorean, which is also in Humboldt, Texas, not too far.
- 1:29:50They get together and we get an EV DeLorean.
- 1:29:52This is what I'm waiting for people.
- 1:29:54The way it should have always been.
- 1:29:55A hundred thousand percent.
- 1:29:57But in other Tesla news,
- 1:29:58there's another drag race.
- 1:30:00And it's this 14 minute video that you got to fast forward to the nine minute mark.
- 1:30:05And then again, to like the, I don't know which minute mark to see
- 1:30:08anything remotely interesting, but it's between a thousand horsepower
- 1:30:12McLaren, whatever the hell it is.
- 1:30:13And a Tesla plaid S version blue, they did three runs.
- 1:30:18They did a standstill drag race run, which the Tesla obliterated
- 1:30:23the McLaren, which off to no one's
- 1:30:25surprise.
- 1:30:26Right.
- 1:30:26I mean,
- 1:30:26I, and it was to no one's surprise that was.
- 1:30:29Present for this drag racing.
- 1:30:31I mean, off the line, electrics have the advantage.
- 1:30:34We already know this.
- 1:30:35Then they did a rolling start drag due to the fact that of course, McLaren's
- 1:30:41going to suck off a dead stop line and the Tesla still really obliterated it.
- 1:30:46And then their third one was a rolling start.
- 1:30:50with advantage to the McLaren.
- 1:30:52So I think it started with however many feet ahead of the Tesla and
- 1:30:56the Tesla still caught up basically.
- 1:30:58And I think it was ended up being like a nose to nose kind of finish.
- 1:31:02Hey, I got to add
- 1:31:03to the funny part of the end of this.
- 1:31:05Not only did the Tesla outrun the McLaren, it also apparently has better brakes.
- 1:31:10Yes, because the guy in the McLaren must've had a code Brown moment because
- 1:31:14essentially he ran out of racing.
- 1:31:16He ran out of runway or whatever they were drag racing on.
- 1:31:19He ran out of drag race.
- 1:31:20And apparently literally managed to stop the McLaren an inch from hitting
- 1:31:26like a fence or a wall or something.
- 1:31:28The barrier at the end of the track strip, you did some late breaking.
- 1:31:34I have to say, I mean, you know, we talked about Ken Block earlier.
- 1:31:37Obviously he's sold off Hoonigan.
- 1:31:39This is another Hoonigan video.
- 1:31:40He's kind of distanced himself from that, even though he's.
- 1:31:42Kind of still affiliated or whatever.
- 1:31:44It's still Hoonigan stuff.
- 1:31:45It's whatever you're right.
- 1:31:46The first like seven minutes is all about like cleaning products and, Oh, isn't
- 1:31:50my car cool and all this kind of thing.
- 1:31:51It's it's whatever I looked at the clickbait, you know, McLaren
- 1:31:54versus plaid, and this is the same as the Corvette one they did, which
- 1:31:58the Corvette also got obliterated.
- 1:32:00It was some like 2000 horsepower, you know, nitrous injected quad
- 1:32:04turbo Corvette or whatever.
- 1:32:05And it was like, all right, yep.
- 1:32:06The Tesla wins every time.
- 1:32:08And it went great.
- 1:32:09Hey, look yet.
- 1:32:09Another.
- 1:32:10drag race between a Tesla and something else that's going to get crushed.
- 1:32:13But you're right.
- 1:32:14That ending made the whole video worth it.
- 1:32:17So I just tell you guys to skip like the first 13 minutes and just watch
- 1:32:20that last poll because it's the best.
- 1:32:22After I lost interest after about five seconds.
- 1:32:24Cause like you said, there's a bajillion of these.
- 1:32:26I had an idea that's not drag racing anymore, right?
- 1:32:29Nobody cares.
- 1:32:30I want to see a triumph TR seven and a Fiat X one nine drag race.
- 1:32:35Yes.
- 1:32:36Old school.
- 1:32:36Think that video was long.
- 1:32:38Wait till they figure out how to keep those running long enough to get to
- 1:32:40the end of the that's the drag race.
- 1:32:43I want to see what do they smell like, like fire and oil and
- 1:32:50they're running rich.
- 1:32:51That's for sure.
- 1:32:51There's other Tesla news this month, which is kind of funny, but also kind of scary.
- 1:32:56Uh, you know, honestly, this is more I feel like sensational
- 1:33:00click baity than anything else.
- 1:33:02The way the headline reads Tesla tempted drivers with insane mode and
- 1:33:06now is tracking them to judge safety.
- 1:33:08Experts say it's ludicrous.
- 1:33:10Honestly, that title has nothing to do with the point
- 1:33:13that's trying to be made here.
- 1:33:14And so what's happening is Tesla's doing another beta test of their, you know,
- 1:33:19full autonomous driving bullshit that.
- 1:33:22Again, even Elon is admitting doesn't really work yet.
- 1:33:26Okay.
- 1:33:27It's not full self driving.
- 1:33:28They're doing like another beta rollout and they want to do actual
- 1:33:33testing with Tesla owners, as opposed to just dummy vehicles going around.
- 1:33:38And so he's created this vetting process where he's created this checklist,
- 1:33:42if you will, of grading scale for judging who will be allowed to beta.
- 1:33:48Test this new software update.
- 1:33:50So essentially he is tracking how people are driving.
- 1:33:53It's a very stringent grading scale to the extreme of any kind of like
- 1:33:57hard breaking, you get docked points.
- 1:34:00And so you have to get like a perfect hundred hundred score
- 1:34:03or however your scale is.
- 1:34:04To be allowed to beta test the new full self driving software.
- 1:34:08And he's doing this because he only wants safe, trustworthy
- 1:34:11people should be trying this out to be the Guinea pig, if you will.
- 1:34:14So it's not so much that he's trying to spy on everybody and,
- 1:34:18and, and track their every moves and control their driving habits.
- 1:34:21Not to say that things don't morph into other things, but it's supposed
- 1:34:24to be this vetting process for people to pilot the new beta software.
- 1:34:29And honestly, this isn't new.
- 1:34:32If people are going to get all in there, Oh my god, everybody's spying on me.
- 1:34:35Meh, meh, meh.
- 1:34:36Guess what?
- 1:34:37Who was it?
- 1:34:38Progressive did this already?
- 1:34:39Like, Five, 10 years ago where they gave you that little sensor to plug in
- 1:34:43OBD port and they were tracking how you drive and you were supposed to save on
- 1:34:47your car insurance and all this bullshit.
- 1:34:49So guess what people it's already been out there, been there, done that.
- 1:34:52Let's not go conspiracy theory.
- 1:34:54Ancient automotive enthusiasts contend that it is Skynet at the end
- 1:34:58of the day, but Donovan, go ahead.
- 1:34:59How many ways can we rip this part of the article apart, right?
- 1:35:02It's just.
- 1:35:03Um, first of all, experts say it's ludicrous.
- 1:35:06That was, that's obviously a Tesla mode, right?
- 1:35:08So either somebody scanned an article and they're like, Oh, there's a
- 1:35:10little good, let's give somebody the fastest mode in the car.
- 1:35:13And if they don't drive it safely, then we're going to do what?
- 1:35:16I don't think it even has anything to do with the mode in the car.
- 1:35:19It's just nowhere.
- 1:35:20Have I seen where it says the beta is being tested in the cars with
- 1:35:24the ludicrous mode and whatnot.
- 1:35:26It's just a thousand Tesla owners.
- 1:35:28are going to get to pilot the new software and he's vetting them
- 1:35:32by tracking how they're driving.
- 1:35:34So, so two things on that.
- 1:35:35First of all, all those dudes from Hoonigan that we just
- 1:35:37talked about, they're out.
- 1:35:38They're off the list.
- 1:35:40Second of all, I'm wondering, can you game the system by using the current, we're
- 1:35:45going to put air quotes around autonomous driving, you know, level, whatever.
- 1:35:49To get the perfect score.
- 1:35:50So you're actually using the current system to qualify
- 1:35:53yourself for the new system?
- 1:35:54Probably not.
- 1:35:55Cause I assume he's able to track that.
- 1:35:57We definitely need Edson for these particular articles, but, you know,
- 1:36:00I don't know if you guys have ever noticed, like every Tesla article
- 1:36:03you read is Something they're doing wrong or something that's great.
- 1:36:07And then you, you get in the actual cars and realize they're doing it all right.
- 1:36:10And this article looks just like another attempt to twist it.
- 1:36:13Tonya, like you were saying around the, make it seem
- 1:36:15like, Oh, they're at it again.
- 1:36:17They're doing something dumb there.
- 1:36:19You know, you don't want to buy a Tesla.
- 1:36:20I don't understand why everybody has the hate for the Teslas, but.
- 1:36:24I don't know.
- 1:36:24I think Edson Paul's, we keep calling him Edson on GarageRat, you know,
- 1:36:28show me things like his, in his model three, where, you know, there
- 1:36:31was a feature, somebody asked for, Hey, can we get these cameras now?
- 1:36:36And I'm going to butcher it for the Tesla owners out there,
- 1:36:37but there's like the rear view.
- 1:36:39And then there's like the corner ones that weren't normally on and
- 1:36:42somebody tweeted it or something.
- 1:36:44And Musk was like, Oh, that's a great idea.
- 1:36:45Sent the software upgrade and boom.
- 1:36:47Now they're there.
- 1:36:47He also thought
- 1:36:48that open butthole was a good idea.
- 1:36:51I mean, come on now.
- 1:36:52Open butthole.
- 1:36:53Yeah.
- 1:36:53You remember that
- 1:36:54for the gas tank?
- 1:36:55Yeah.
- 1:36:55You open the gas tank voice command.
- 1:36:57You say open butthole and then it's open my butthole, like open
- 1:37:00the trunk or something ridiculous.
- 1:37:02He thinks everything's a good idea,
- 1:37:04but still, you know, the fact that we're quick to market with
- 1:37:06something, somebody made a suggestion.
- 1:37:07That's a great idea.
- 1:37:08Let's do it.
- 1:37:09That to me makes Tesla the winner in the automotive market.
- 1:37:12So, but it's also
- 1:37:13kind of scary too, that your car is controlled by over
- 1:37:16the air software update.
- 1:37:18So they can render you useless.
- 1:37:19I also heard about something that came across my desk earlier about.
- 1:37:22That Tesla is also talking about the cars will put in their own
- 1:37:26orders for maintenance parts.
- 1:37:28Can you imagine if the car ordered its own set of tires suddenly and then you got
- 1:37:31docked, you know, 1200 bucks because it's the only tire that's available for Tesla.
- 1:37:35No, thank you.
- 1:37:36There's certain parts of that I want to be disconnected from.
- 1:37:38There's all kinds of, and you should get Paul in here and do maybe just a spin.
- 1:37:41Specific Tesla interview, but there's all kinds of things about
- 1:37:45eventually like he can't buy his car.
- 1:37:47My understanding is he can only lease it because they plan to have this
- 1:37:49back as a fleet later automated.
- 1:37:51That's
- 1:37:52the Ferrari pyramid scheme.
- 1:37:54Well, it's a, it's a, they can basically have them as automated Ubers down
- 1:37:57the road and they'll be able to go, you can send it, pick up your dry,
- 1:38:00clean, all kinds of crazy stuff.
- 1:38:01So I don't know.
- 1:38:02It's, I think it's pretty interesting, but I'll take
- 1:38:04that 84 GTI you were talking about.
- 1:38:07Me too.
- 1:38:08That's all I need.
- 1:38:09Me too.
- 1:38:09We'll split.
- 1:38:11And with a big sigh, we move on to our next segment,
- 1:38:14lowered expectations.
- 1:38:18It's the last time you've been on things have evolved.
- 1:38:20You've got my attention now.
- 1:38:21So, you know, I've gone to a few Porsche parades over the years and, you
- 1:38:26know, we've all done the car show and the swap meets and things like that.
- 1:38:29And there's always, you know, there's always that one guy
- 1:38:32kind of back in the corner.
- 1:38:33He's selling like, you know, his hand painted art of Lido.
- 1:38:36Steve McQueen and the nine 17, or, you know, even Dr.
- 1:38:40McDreamy and his nine 11s and all those kinds of stuff.
- 1:38:42But this latest one that I came across this article in auto week, where
- 1:38:46there's an artist that's using these natural mosaics to paint pictures.
- 1:38:51Of legendary race cars.
- 1:38:53And I thought this one of the nine 17 made of butterflies
- 1:38:56is actually quite beautiful.
- 1:38:58It's, it's really cool looking.
- 1:38:59And it's one of those things that you can just kind of continue to stare at
- 1:39:02and kind of move your head and just see different things and you kind of
- 1:39:05zoom in and out of the perspective.
- 1:39:07And I really do appreciate stuff like this.
- 1:39:08And I know it's, it's kind of car adjacent and probably well out of the all posters.
- 1:39:13com price range, you know, to get a full print of that or whatever.
- 1:39:16But I just thought it was kind of neat.
- 1:39:18It's cool.
- 1:39:18I feel bad for the butterflies that died.
- 1:39:20I hope you didn't kill them to make.
- 1:39:21Yeah.
- 1:39:22And that's why it qualified for lower expectations.
- 1:39:25Cause that's where my brain went to.
- 1:39:26How do you stage that?
- 1:39:27Cause it's not painted.
- 1:39:28It's actually made, you know, these different, uh, renderings that he
- 1:39:31does are done with, you know, natural materials and things like that.
- 1:39:34So it's cool, but on the same token, I'm like, wow, that's,
- 1:39:36that's a lot of effort there.
- 1:39:37It's sad at the same time.
- 1:39:39Exactly.
- 1:39:39Right.
- 1:39:40How many butterflies were killed in the making of this?
- 1:39:43I was like, it's got to be several hundred, right?
- 1:39:46Can you imagine these guys out there?
- 1:39:47I mean, people collect butterflies.
- 1:39:49I mean, it's a thing, but I mean, whatever.
- 1:39:51It's very creative.
- 1:39:52So right along with that, but on an entirely different side of things,
- 1:39:57Begging the question, what could go wrong?
- 1:39:59Ford removes the credit score qualification requirement
- 1:40:03for 84 month loans.
- 1:40:05First of all, I didn't even know seven year loans were
- 1:40:07like a thing, but good God.
- 1:40:09I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
- 1:40:11Everybody gets an F 150.
- 1:40:12It's like an episode of Oprah and you get an F 150 and you
- 1:40:15get an F 150 and you get an F
- 1:40:17150.
- 1:40:18It's okay.
- 1:40:18I don't want an F 150.
- 1:40:19Thanks.
- 1:40:20I
- 1:40:20mean, 0 percent APR on a seven year loan on a 70, 000 truck.
- 1:40:26I mean, it's not going to suck me in the door, but for somebody that's looking
- 1:40:30to buy a truck right now, if you can get one, despite the semiconductor
- 1:40:34shortage, that's really not a bad deal.
- 1:40:36I don't know how I feel about 84 months of interest.
- 1:40:39It's going to be one of those.
- 1:40:40You're going to go down there and they're going to go, Oh, that was
- 1:40:43this one particular stock model.
- 1:40:45And we don't have that one anymore.
- 1:40:46It's the Maverick.
- 1:40:47You came in for the F 150, but you're getting the Maverick.
- 1:40:50How long before these end up at title loan?
- 1:40:51Right?
- 1:40:52That's crazy.
- 1:40:52Yeah, you can do, I know you can do longer finance on, you know, exotics and things.
- 1:40:57So not crazy, but 0 percent APR.
- 1:41:00That's amazing.
- 1:41:01But you know, and the other thing that's crazy is, you know, all
- 1:41:04of these, particularly right now are holding their value.
- 1:41:06There's a good chance you buy that, drive it for two years and sell it back
- 1:41:09to Ford for what you have in it or more.
- 1:41:11That's true.
- 1:41:12And the other thing I will warn people about is when you're sitting at the
- 1:41:15table, there's always a lot of pressure to buy a new car, especially if you're
- 1:41:18excited about it and the sales rep wants to get their commission and all that
- 1:41:21kind of stuff, even though they tell you they're not paid on commission.
- 1:41:24One of the things my wife did many years ago, and I still will never forget this.
- 1:41:28We were buying a VW.
- 1:41:29And it was one of their promotion, you know, weekends, which happened
- 1:41:32to be there at the right time.
- 1:41:33There's always that, you know, zero down, zero APR, get the car for free, you know,
- 1:41:38you know, drive, arrive and drive, you know, the whole campaign that they had.
- 1:41:41So we're there and she's sitting down and she's kind of furiously scribbling
- 1:41:44on a piece of paper in this, in the, right in front of the financier's desk.
- 1:41:48And she's like, what are you doing?
- 1:41:49She's like, we need to change the terms of this loan.
- 1:41:51And she's like, what do you mean?
- 1:41:52She's like your 0 percent APR loan is actually more expensive than if I take
- 1:41:57the shorter, more aggressive loan with a higher yield, I will end up paying less
- 1:42:02over the period than I will with the zero.
- 1:42:05And she was like, the lady that was there was like, that's.
- 1:42:08The first time somebody's actually sat down and done the math and I'm
- 1:42:11like, yeah, that's my wife, right?
- 1:42:14So I still give her mad props for that.
- 1:42:15And I'd like to share that story as a reminder to people to just take a minute
- 1:42:19when you're sitting there and take the pressure off and breathe and think about
- 1:42:22what you're signing on the dotted line on.
- 1:42:25So do the rough calculations yourself.
- 1:42:27If you do the math, see where you end up.
- 1:42:28Cause some of these things are not to your advantage over the long run.
- 1:42:31I have many stories along there.
- 1:42:33I'll give you two quick ones.
- 1:42:35First of all, I've discovered money factor in these.
- 1:42:37If you guys don't know what that is, you need to, that's how they calculate your
- 1:42:40finance rate and they hide that from you.
- 1:42:42So do your research there.
- 1:42:43But one of my ex girlfriends, we went in and she was buying a car and I
- 1:42:48didn't think about it at the time, but they said, yeah, yeah, go ahead.
- 1:42:50You know, take it.
- 1:42:51We're going to have to have you come back in a couple of days, finish up.
- 1:42:53Paperwork.
- 1:42:53So she took it and when they came back, they had dropped her credit score and,
- 1:42:57Oh, we made this mistake and did all this.
- 1:42:59And, you know, we told him, give back the keys and she was in love with the car.
- 1:43:02I'd never seen that scam before, but you know, another, this apparently is
- 1:43:05my Paul Edson podcast night, but we've been, I think I've talked to Eric.
- 1:43:09We've been looking for operators.
- 1:43:11So we went to Jeep and trying to buy some Jeeps.
- 1:43:14So Jeep currently, and they might still have it on their website, has
- 1:43:16this 275 a month deal for their hybrid 4XE, which of course doesn't exist.
- 1:43:21I went into three different dealers, called all of the Metro
- 1:43:24ones, nobody has the stock.
- 1:43:26So we found a dealer that had two, and we had gone into a previous dealer and said,
- 1:43:30we'll take two, but they didn't have any.
- 1:43:32So we went to this dealer and said, if we can do the numbers
- 1:43:34right, we'll take both of them.
- 1:43:35At the end of the story, first of all, the first numbers they came back with on a
- 1:43:39275, A month loan was 890 a month, right?
- 1:43:44So we looked at the paperwork, said, no, that's quite right.
- 1:43:46Paul's MBA, super smart guy before it was all said and done.
- 1:43:49I kid you not.
- 1:43:50He was teaching the finance manager how to quick calculate costs and
- 1:43:54figure out factors and stuff on the online in the dealership.
- 1:43:57So I say that for two reasons.
- 1:43:58One is Paul's super smart, but to your point, the people that.
- 1:44:01That are pulling the numbers don't always know, right?
- 1:44:03Sometimes they're just given a calculator or a formula or whatever, or
- 1:44:07they're, they're trying to stick you.
- 1:44:08So yeah, definitely do those numbers.
- 1:44:10And, uh, I'll give props to Honda, uh, another future sponsor of your podcast.
- 1:44:14Hopefully for leases, they're the only, as far as I know, they're
- 1:44:18the only manufacturer that does not allow their dealers to change
- 1:44:21the money factor on a lease.
- 1:44:22So that's how they, they, the dealers make more money.
- 1:44:25They have to do what corporate gives them, which gets us back to this forward.
- 1:44:30Uh, 0 percent APR.
- 1:44:31How are the dealers going to make any money off of this?
- 1:44:34Right.
- 1:44:34And again, shopping recently, I went into a Nissan dealer and they
- 1:44:37had dent proofing as part of their add ons, dent proofing, right?
- 1:44:42Good luck.
- 1:44:42Yeah.
- 1:44:43They've got the undercoating.
- 1:44:44All right.
- 1:44:44So I would have to believe that any kind of zero APR F 150 probably has
- 1:44:48dent proofing and muffler bearings.
- 1:44:51Does it come with muffler bearings and blinker fluid?
- 1:44:53Yep.
- 1:44:54Blink of fluid.
- 1:44:54So,
- 1:44:55oh Lord, they see, this is why it's on lowered expectations.
- 1:44:59Speaking of lowered expectations, how about the United nude low res
- 1:45:04you have me at nude,
- 1:45:05another art piece, you know, I'm a big fan of Tron.
- 1:45:10I mean, if folks know me, they know this to be true.
- 1:45:12I like all the things about that movie, both the original and the new one, you
- 1:45:16know, those super angular futuristic cars.
- 1:45:18But when I saw this, I was like, W.
- 1:45:21T F and apparently this is a real car.
- 1:45:25And the part that really got me about this, like I could have cared a less
- 1:45:29like, Oh, this is some, you know, Wraith Knight Rider BS for a movie
- 1:45:33that somebody made publicity sign.
- 1:45:34It was made for a United nude, which apparently they make like sports
- 1:45:37apparel and all this kind of stuff, you know, you know, yoga pants and
- 1:45:40all that kind of, yeah, whatever.
- 1:45:42But their definition for this car is an abstract low resolution version.
- 1:45:50Of the Lamborghini Countach, and I'm like, what?
- 1:45:55I mean, everything is square.
- 1:45:56Even the steering wheel is like a hexagon.
- 1:45:59I'm like, I don't understand.
- 1:46:00At least it was, it's bogus.
- 1:46:02I mean, when they lift the lid on this thing, cause it's like a big
- 1:46:04old, like, you know, single cockpit Lotus seven underneath or whatever.
- 1:46:08It's ridiculous.
- 1:46:09And then I'm looking at these numbers and I start laughing and it's like both power
- 1:46:14numbers of a five kilowatt electric motor paired with a single speed transmission.
- 1:46:19And I'm like, this is like the Bugatti baby too.
- 1:46:22What does it do?
- 1:46:23Like 30 miles an hour.
- 1:46:24And it goes like 10 feet.
- 1:46:25It's ridiculous.
- 1:46:26Exactly.
- 1:46:26It only
- 1:46:27goes.
- 1:46:2731 miles
- 1:46:28an hour.
- 1:46:28It's insane, right?
- 1:46:30You can't wear pants in it.
- 1:46:31Apparently, no, you have to
- 1:46:32be united and nude, whatever that means.
- 1:46:34It has to be low res.
- 1:46:35Everything's blurred when you drive it.
- 1:46:37Right.
- 1:46:38But the best part is the part that gets me, it goes back to what
- 1:46:40I always say about auctions on bring a trailer and other places
- 1:46:44like that, that people have lost.
- 1:46:45They're ever loving minds.
- 1:46:47I mean, this isn't even like a piece of history, right?
- 1:46:49This is a publicity stunt car, 111 grand.
- 1:46:53I'm like, really?
- 1:46:54I wouldn't give you 111 bucks for this thing.
- 1:46:56Like it's terrible.
- 1:46:58What's crazy is if you look at this, the winner of the auction,
- 1:47:01it's a United low new, no kidding.
- 1:47:05But what does it
- 1:47:06smell like?
- 1:47:06Right.
- 1:47:08I don't want to know.
- 1:47:09I don't, I don't want to know either.
- 1:47:10As we continue to lower our expectations, Tanya mentioned
- 1:47:14California earlier, what's going on.
- 1:47:16This is, I guess, car adjacent fuel or fuel adjacent.
- 1:47:20We already know California is very strict emissions laws.
- 1:47:24They've got their California air resources board, AKA CARB, regulating a
- 1:47:28lot of things around passenger cars and whatnot in the state, but they are going.
- 1:47:31further and saying that starting in 2024 there will be a new law passed
- 1:47:37banning gas powered lawn equipment.
- 1:47:41The world is done.
- 1:47:42It's over.
- 1:47:43Lawnmowers and leaf blowers will need to be electric because allegedly what
- 1:47:48I guess the scientists or whomever have calculated is that one hour lawnmower
- 1:47:54use is equivalent to driving 300 miles.
- 1:47:58From LA to Vegas and one hour of leaf blower use is apparently equivalent to
- 1:48:03driving 1, 100 miles from LA to Denver.
- 1:48:06What
- 1:48:06economy of scale did they calculate that on?
- 1:48:08Because my lawnmower literally uses a gallon in an hour.
- 1:48:13So what it also says is that they're saying that they're the best
- 1:48:17selling commercial lawnmower for an hour emits as much smog forming
- 1:48:21pollution as you would by driving a 2016 Toyota Camry around 300 miles.
- 1:48:27It doesn't really matter because everybody's going to be in Austin by
- 1:48:30the time this, uh, well, there's no
- 1:48:32grass there anyway, so it doesn't matter.
- 1:48:35So at any rate, if you're in California, you better start stocking
- 1:48:37up on your electric leaf blowers and lawnmowers before you can't find any.
- 1:48:41I mean, so with that band, that's going to hurt.
- 1:48:44The landscaping industry, agriculture industry, it's
- 1:48:47going to hurt the residents.
- 1:48:48It's going to, I mean, there's going to be a lot of riding lawnmowers
- 1:48:51for sale, which would be awesome.
- 1:48:52We're just going to have to go to California to get it.
- 1:48:54Whoever's starting that, you know, cars and bids version for lawn equipment.
- 1:48:58Let me know.
- 1:48:58I want to get in on that early.
- 1:48:59No, what we need is somebody who's going to retrofit batteries
- 1:49:03onto the gas powered lawnmowers.
- 1:49:05I think it's just a solar powered.
- 1:49:07leaf blower.
- 1:49:08I think that there you go.
- 1:49:09Problem solved.
- 1:49:09We need those guys and gals in the Netherlands to help us.
- 1:49:13So terrible.
- 1:49:14But let's live in the mood a little bit and talk about our favorite
- 1:49:19section, most anticipated section of the show, the Florida man stories.
- 1:49:22Well, our first one is More of a public service announcement and kind
- 1:49:27of sad, not kind of sad, it is sad.
- 1:49:29So we'll start off low and then end it on a high note.
- 1:49:32Our expectations were already low.
- 1:49:34So
- 1:49:36this is a Florida man story, unfortunately, and a man killed two
- 1:49:43people by driving a Tesla through a house.
- 1:49:46At 116 miles an hour.
- 1:49:48And this has nothing to do with Tesla, but with the stupidity of
- 1:49:52some people, apparently this car had just been purchased several
- 1:49:56hours before the incident.
- 1:49:58It wasn't even the owner driving, but he let his friend drive.
- 1:50:02And then there were also two other passengers.
- 1:50:04In this Tesla, and they were in a 30 mile an hour zone,
- 1:50:07essentially in a neighborhood, and I guess decided 30 was too slow.
- 1:50:12And the report says the car was doing 160 miles an hour.
- 1:50:15When he blew through a stop sign, ended up over the curb, up an embankment.
- 1:50:20So I want to say you kind of shot in the air, went through the roof,
- 1:50:23through the house, very sadly, the house owner and your dog were in the
- 1:50:29house and they were struck obviously so violently were found in the front
- 1:50:34yard of the property outside the house.
- 1:50:36And obviously they did not.
- 1:50:39So don't be a dumb ass.
- 1:50:40Why are you doing 116 miles an hour on McLaren?
- 1:50:44He saw a McLaren.
- 1:50:45He had to
- 1:50:45take the challenge.
- 1:50:47That sounds more like though they didn't know how to drive the car.
- 1:50:49There are brakes, but not really, right?
- 1:50:51You decelerate by kind of letting off the pedal and things.
- 1:50:54I mean, to be that egregiously stupid, you think it was just.
- 1:50:59Driver error.
- 1:51:00Maybe they couldn't figure out how to slow it down or something.
- 1:51:02I
- 1:51:02mean, it's possible.
- 1:51:03Maybe they realized they were going a still too fast on the road speed,
- 1:51:08but nowhere near that aggressive.
- 1:51:10And then made a mistake and further thought
- 1:51:15the flux capacitor was working when he hit 88 miles an hour,
- 1:51:19they would go back in time,
- 1:51:20but he wishes that that was true.
- 1:51:23But,
- 1:51:24um,
- 1:51:24I think he's in jail now, rightfully so, if he was an idiot.
- 1:51:28Yeah, that is really unfortunate.
- 1:51:30So be careful here in Florida.
- 1:51:31We could digress into EVs and it's, it's a whole thing when they accelerate so fast.
- 1:51:36Hold on,
- 1:51:36hold on, hold on.
- 1:51:37Wait a second.
- 1:51:38Wait.
- 1:51:38I just realized I had this mental picture.
- 1:51:40First of all, how tall was the house?
- 1:51:42Because this, this Tesla went airborne.
- 1:51:44I
- 1:51:44mean, it's Florida.
- 1:51:45So I imagine it's probably one.
- 1:51:46Oh, okay.
- 1:51:47I was thinking like a two
- 1:51:48story Victorian or something like chop it off.
- 1:51:51It's Tampa.
- 1:51:52So it looks like a one, like a rancher.
- 1:51:56I thought it was like the car from Harry Potter, you know, or like flies around.
- 1:51:59I think it kind of like definitely probably came airborne and came like.
- 1:52:03Clip the roof and then like came down in the house.
- 1:52:06Probably.
- 1:52:06That's definitely sad.
- 1:52:07And I think, I think I need a hug now.
- 1:52:09I know.
- 1:52:10Right.
- 1:52:10Yeah.
- 1:52:11Start it.
- 1:52:11So you need a hug.
- 1:52:13Well then why don't you head on over to Texas where a Houston woman known as
- 1:52:20pink celebrity, there's not much text.
- 1:52:23You just need to watch the video and it's.
- 1:52:26NSFW, I would say.
- 1:52:28She is a very scantily clad woman riding in various positions on the exterior
- 1:52:34of, I believe it was a Charger, as the driver is doing doughnuts in some parking
- 1:52:40lot and she's barely dressed, twerking.
- 1:52:46Hanging out the side of the car on the windshield, wherever she can hold
- 1:52:51on, just twerking it as he's drifting.
- 1:52:55I just want to know, is this an actual legitimate news?
- 1:52:58It's Fox.
- 1:52:59This is an actual news channel.
- 1:53:00They
- 1:53:01only show the best news.
- 1:53:04They show her twerking, right?
- 1:53:06Her ass is all out in the, in the, the tagline reads the pink
- 1:53:10celeb twerks her ass on a car.
- 1:53:13They actually put that on the broadcast.
- 1:53:15Really?
- 1:53:16You know, somebody was having way too much fun with this and they slipped that
- 1:53:19in there, probably last minute on Leo.
- 1:53:20We'll put that on and see, but I don't know.
- 1:53:22It's talent.
- 1:53:23She's hanging on.
- 1:53:24And I
- 1:53:24mean, both the driver and her, I mean, this is pretty awesome.
- 1:53:30I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:53:31This is really good.
- 1:53:32How are you supposed to get the dollars to her though?
- 1:53:36She's moving too fast.
- 1:53:37It'd be funny if there weren't two guys running behind the car,
- 1:53:39throwing dollar bills at her.
- 1:53:41The paint job is, leaves a little to be desired though.
- 1:53:44Like I'm not a fan of the baby blue and the pink, but you know, I mean, better
- 1:53:48than the woman in Britain that was doing the same thing and fell out onto
- 1:53:51the highway or actually kill herself.
- 1:53:53Right.
- 1:53:54I mean, so, I mean, wow.
- 1:53:56I mean,
- 1:53:57I mean, at least, yeah, they were confined to a parking lot trying to keep it safe
- 1:54:01doing it for the gram, you know, but doing for the tick tock, I don't know
- 1:54:04now, now, Eric, you want to know what that car smells like
- 1:54:09and sin.
- 1:54:10So that smells like
- 1:54:12it says she's the CEO of the car club.
- 1:54:16All right.
- 1:54:16What?
- 1:54:17Imagine that board meeting.
- 1:54:18My goodness.
- 1:54:20What'd you all do on Friday?
- 1:54:21So in other news, Fargo.
- 1:54:26So we're going north for this one.
- 1:54:28And, uh, obviously if this is Fargo, uh, I believe in North Dakota, right?
- 1:54:34It gets cold up there.
- 1:54:35Animals like to hibernate sometimes in the, in the cold months, they
- 1:54:39like to store food because obviously when everything dies in the So
- 1:54:43one, you know, entrepreneurial.
- 1:54:47The owner of his Chevy Avalanche, great SUV there, found, when he decided to open
- 1:54:53the hood of his Chevy Avalanche, or maybe tried to turn the car on and started
- 1:54:56hearing some weird noises or something, I don't know, he discovered 42 gallons, or
- 1:55:02150 pounds, which is more meaningful, 150 pounds of black walnuts stuffed inside.
- 1:55:08Everywhere in the engine bay on a Chevy.
- 1:55:14Why
- 1:55:15are so weird?
- 1:55:17I'm going to regret this.
- 1:55:18Cause I know you're going to tagline it out somewhere else, but those
- 1:55:20are the biggest nuts I've ever seen.
- 1:55:24They're huge.
- 1:55:25Those look like lemons.
- 1:55:27Yeah.
- 1:55:27So I have black Walnut trees here on my property and they're about the size of
- 1:55:32tennis balls when they're fully mature.
- 1:55:34And by the way, They are hard as rocks.
- 1:55:36You could run them over with that avalanche and they will not bust open.
- 1:55:40I do not know how squirrels open those things up.
- 1:55:43They are just insane.
- 1:55:44They might as well have made us cement, but yeah, 150 pounds of black walnut.
- 1:55:48That's a lot of wall.
- 1:55:50I mean, mad props to that squirrel.
- 1:55:52He was busy,
- 1:55:53but this guy never drives his car right.
- 1:55:55Or is he driving around town?
- 1:55:57accumulating nuts.
- 1:55:58Apparently, I guess a few days had gone by.
- 1:56:01That's
- 1:56:01quick.
- 1:56:02So I mean, this squirrel, I mean, shit.
- 1:56:04Apparently he started giving the walnuts away to people.
- 1:56:07How rude that that poor squirrel did all that work, all that heavy
- 1:56:10lifting to have his spoils just unceremoniously removed from, from
- 1:56:16the treasure chest of the avalanche.
- 1:56:18Well, 48 hours later, it was full again.
- 1:56:20I'm sure squirrel is industrious.
- 1:56:23I must resist.
- 1:56:24I'm trying so hard not to comment on this any further.
- 1:56:27You guys are just loving them up there.
- 1:56:30All right.
- 1:56:31This next one, I don't know.
- 1:56:34It came to us courtesy of garage ride.
- 1:56:35I'm just
- 1:56:36apparently came to us courtesy of garage rides.
- 1:56:37Kind of first laying my eyes on this one headline man arrested after shooting
- 1:56:42at car thieves on the headline of it.
- 1:56:44I'm kind of like, okay, I'm not sure.
- 1:56:46I think the funniest part ish is apparently backstory is this
- 1:56:50is Some dude in New Jersey, who's CEO of Meat Innovations
- 1:56:55Incorporated, whatever that is.
- 1:56:56Sure.
- 1:57:02Yeah.
- 1:57:02Okay.
- 1:57:03Clearly he's got a lot of money.
- 1:57:05Cause he's got an exotic and luxury car collection that apparently has
- 1:57:09been, had attempted robberies on it 18 times in the last two years.
- 1:57:14And the most recent attempt, which this is a recent article, but it's commenting
- 1:57:20on the March 25th, 2020 attempt that woke him in the middle of night, which had him
- 1:57:25running out of his mansion in the nude.
- 1:57:29Now we know why it's called meat innovations.
- 1:57:34In the nude with his AR 15, nothing but his AR 15 strapped around him.
- 1:57:39Is he, is he in the same car club as the pink celebrity?
- 1:57:46So what gets me is about this article is like Donovan said earlier, by
- 1:57:51going to the protest and his cowboy boots and nothing else, but the
- 1:57:53sign, this guy's already there.
- 1:57:55He's got his AR and he's running out after his car.
- 1:57:59He's ready to go.
- 1:57:59You
- 1:58:00know, he's serious too.
- 1:58:01He's like, this guy is crazy.
- 1:58:03He's naked.
- 1:58:04AR 15.
- 1:58:05What we really learned here is that he sleeps in the buff.
- 1:58:09Maybe.
- 1:58:10We don't know what he was doing.
- 1:58:11I
- 1:58:11mean, that's true.
- 1:58:12You're right.
- 1:58:12It was the middle of the night.
- 1:58:13We don't know what he was doing.
- 1:58:15I don't want to know what he was doing.
- 1:58:16But he got all his guns confiscated, not sure they necessarily were all
- 1:58:21so
- 1:58:21he's
- 1:58:21arrested for guns,
- 1:58:23decent exposure.
- 1:58:24And then he still got his car stolen.
- 1:58:27And it was a bad day in New Jersey.
- 1:58:30Oh, man.
- 1:58:32Well, they keep talking about these cars have been attempted.
- 1:58:35They've attempted to steal these cars.
- 1:58:3625 times since 2019.
- 1:58:40Stop parking
- 1:58:40them on the
- 1:58:40road!
- 1:58:41Right, or move them, or get a better security system, or, I mean There's so
- 1:58:45many things you could do here before you run in the nude
- 1:58:48with your AR 15 confronting
- 1:58:51In the middle of the night too, right?
- 1:58:52You're like, come on!
- 1:58:53Ugh.
- 1:58:54You can't make this stuff up.
- 1:58:56Well, and then you have the guy in Missouri who serves as a public
- 1:59:00service announcement for everyone.
- 1:59:02Well, not everyone, if you're going to sell catalytic converter online,
- 1:59:07and you're going to take photos of your catalytic converter, post
- 1:59:10them, be cognizant of what's in the background of your photos, probably
- 1:59:16not a good idea for your bag of meth.
- 1:59:22To be on display.
- 1:59:23I don't know anything about meth, but that looks like a big bag of meth.
- 1:59:26We all learned about meth from
- 1:59:27Breaking Bad.
- 1:59:28Come on now, you should know, you should be an expert.
- 1:59:30I still
- 1:59:30have yet to watch that.
- 1:59:31I need to catch up on this.
- 1:59:32I'm right there.
- 1:59:34Drive.
- 1:59:34You need to watch that and I'll watch Drive to Survive, all right?
- 1:59:37All
- 1:59:37right.
- 1:59:37So apparently it was 48 grams of meth, which probably is a lot.
- 1:59:41I don't know.
- 1:59:42And he had a pistol that he wasn't supposed to be having.
- 1:59:45So it was a bad day for that guy.
- 1:59:47All
- 1:59:47this on Facebook Marketplace.
- 1:59:49All of this caught on Facebook marketplace by someone who could,
- 1:59:53by someone who could recognize a bag of meth and report it to the police.
- 1:59:56Good point.
- 1:59:57How come they didn't put a stop on this is, uh, not appropriate for the
- 2:00:02same guys that were searching for the big clown bow tie and happened to find that
- 2:00:06AMX three that we talked about earlier.
- 2:00:08I mean, you know, Facebook Marketplace.
- 2:00:11Nevermind.
- 2:00:11I'm not going to go there.
- 2:00:12We'll go back down.
- 2:00:13The new
- 2:00:13Craigslist.
- 2:00:14We'll go back down to Florida real quick.
- 2:00:17And you know, this is just Florida men doing a Florida men do.
- 2:00:20And I'm pretty sure there's been other reports of this, but again,
- 2:00:24there's a Florida man caught mowing and going, as they say, so he needed
- 2:00:31something from 7 Eleven down the street.
- 2:00:33And he hopped on it, riding down John Deere tractor and just pulled up to 7
- 2:00:38Eleven.
- 2:00:39What's wrong
- 2:00:39with that?
- 2:00:40Apparently the legality of riding your lawnmower on a public road.
- 2:00:43But aside from that, the neighbors just think it's good fun.
- 2:00:46Where he screwed up is he should have cut the grass while he drove along and then
- 2:00:51he would have gotten polluted, right?
- 2:00:52Exactly.
- 2:00:53Two more things to add to this.
- 2:00:54Number one, soon this will be illegal anyway if California has their way so he's
- 2:00:59going to get his confiscated and two, at least he didn't end up like that other
- 2:01:03guy that was driving a tractor on the road and somehow managed to flip it over.
- 2:01:07If you remember last year.
- 2:01:12There's the video of the guy that gets the DUI on his lawnmower.
- 2:01:16How is that even a thing?
- 2:01:17I don't know.
- 2:01:17You have to look.
- 2:01:18It's on YouTube somewhere, but yeah, he is hammered and on a dirt road
- 2:01:21somewhere and they give him a DUI.
- 2:01:23So speaking of tractors, we're going to go down under for this one.
- 2:01:27Like quickly down under?
- 2:01:29So we've got one coming out of Australia and
- 2:01:32yeah,
- 2:01:33this gentleman really wanted to steal two motorbikes from a
- 2:01:37dealership and thought that a big yellow tractor, like construction
- 2:01:42tractor would be the perfect theft vehicle and getaway vehicle for this.
- 2:01:47So he was quickly intercepted at which point dropped the bikes, but then.
- 2:01:52proceeded to bring the police on a chase, which if you think about it, he had a
- 2:01:57pretty good vehicle because he cut across lawns and farms and train tracks and all
- 2:02:03this stuff before abandoning on foot.
- 2:02:06I mean, you wouldn't have been able to do this in a car.
- 2:02:09So maybe he didn't have the wrong idea after all.
- 2:02:12And to be fair, that's a wheel loader.
- 2:02:14That's not a truck.
- 2:02:15And I've actually driven one of these.
- 2:02:16They're really cool to drive.
- 2:02:17But yeah, I'm with you.
- 2:02:18He's got basically a lift on the front.
- 2:02:20So there is nothing getting in his way.
- 2:02:22He wants a house.
- 2:02:23He just picks it up, tears it apart.
- 2:02:25So did they say he got caught or did he get away?
- 2:02:27No, they did arrest him.
- 2:02:2841 year old man, several offenses.
- 2:02:31Hold on
- 2:02:32a second.
- 2:02:34Okay.
- 2:02:35First of all, the tractor wheel loader, skid loader, that dump truck
- 2:02:38made by Rolls Royce from last month.
- 2:02:40It doesn't matter.
- 2:02:41I'm going to ask a very pointed question.
- 2:02:43What is the suspected top speed wheel loader?
- 2:02:4825.
- 2:02:48Are
- 2:02:50you kidding me?
- 2:02:51Yeah, let's be real.
- 2:02:52He's probably doing like.
- 2:02:53Four.
- 2:02:54Okay, so the Mounties or whatever they're called down there,
- 2:02:57they can't catch this guy.
- 2:02:59I mean, seriously, you could probably run and catch this
- 2:03:01tractor, let alone whatever it is.
- 2:03:03And they're dirt
- 2:03:04bikes, right?
- 2:03:05And I don't know, it's been a while since I've been on one.
- 2:03:09Do they have keys?
- 2:03:10I mean, he busted the window.
- 2:03:11Could he not just driven the dirt bike away?
- 2:03:13That's what he
- 2:03:15wanted two of them.
- 2:03:16He couldn't drive two of them at the time.
- 2:03:18That's where his plan failed.
- 2:03:20We know that those motorcycle chariot races, you can run
- 2:03:23two of them at the same time.
- 2:03:25I
- 2:03:25was going to say he's not aware of the chariots.
- 2:03:28That would have been the true getaway vehicle.
- 2:03:30Is he an expat from France?
- 2:03:32Because he has another friend.
- 2:03:34If so, why didn't friend help him out?
- 2:03:36Or maybe that's the problem.
- 2:03:37Maybe he was trying to get a friend and do a good deed.
- 2:03:39And then the police screwed it up.
- 2:03:41I think that's what it is.
- 2:03:42Again, like 4 miles an hour.
- 2:03:44Okay.
- 2:03:44I just want to reiterate the fact that this is a tractor.
- 2:03:48I mean, if you're not well versed in driving 1 of those, there's no
- 2:03:51way he's going to go like that.
- 2:03:52Top speed, even if it is 25, but 25 is still slow.
- 2:03:56Even those freaking Astra diesels or whatever they use over there.
- 2:04:00It's got to be able to catch this tractor, right?
- 2:04:02And you see, he takes that turn and picks the front wheel up off the ground.
- 2:04:05He almost rolled it over.
- 2:04:07That would have been a better hint of the story.
- 2:04:09Maybe that explains how the guy flipped that other tractor over from last year.
- 2:04:12Tanya.
- 2:04:12I mean,
- 2:04:13he was riding that thing.
- 2:04:15So
- 2:04:15nobody's even asking where he got the wheel loader from,
- 2:04:19so he obviously stole that.
- 2:04:20So it was a
- 2:04:21chain of events.
- 2:04:22Right?
- 2:04:23Exactly.
- 2:04:23There was
- 2:04:24a whole lot of screwing up going
- 2:04:25on.
- 2:04:26That's
- 2:04:28part of the multiple offenses he's charged with.
- 2:04:33Geez.
- 2:04:34Well, I guess it's time for us to go behind the pit wall and
- 2:04:37talk about motorsports news.
- 2:04:39Apparently Ricardo won a bet or lost the bet, but it ends in him
- 2:04:43driving one of Dale Earnhardt's NASCARs at the American GP.
- 2:04:47So I don't know if he's being punished or being praised, but apparently
- 2:04:50he's going to be, Campaigning one of Dale Earnhardt's 1984 Monte
- 2:04:54Carlos at the American Grand Prix.
- 2:04:57So what's
- 2:04:57the American Grand Prix talking about the F1 track?
- 2:05:01Yeah.
- 2:05:01He's going to drive a NASCAR at the F1 track.
- 2:05:03Yes.
- 2:05:04Nothing about that makes sense.
- 2:05:06Nope.
- 2:05:06He's going to do it.
- 2:05:07Like they do all those other parade laps and you're like, yay, whatever.
- 2:05:13I was like, I was like, how did this even make news?
- 2:05:16But I was like, ah, well, okay, fine, whatever.
- 2:05:18I mean, there's so much drama in Formula One every week, but I was
- 2:05:20like, this is NASCAR adjacent.
- 2:05:22Normally Brad like follows all that kind of stuff and reports on it.
- 2:05:25So I didn't spend a whole ton of time, but I was like, Oh, that's cute.
- 2:05:28That's fun.
- 2:05:29I don't think he's actually.
- 2:05:30Competing in a race.
- 2:05:31I think he's just doing a couple of laps in it.
- 2:05:33Maybe he'll drift it.
- 2:05:34We can get Ken Block to go sideways around the Dale Earnhardt's Monte Carlo.
- 2:05:38Last month, we talked about Volkswagen and F1 and, you know, talked about
- 2:05:43the whole, you know, hybrid system and how they're looking to use Volkswagen
- 2:05:47technology to replace the current system that they have and all these
- 2:05:49fun, really technological things.
- 2:05:51And you can go re review that episode and go re review that article.
- 2:05:53This new article that came out about.
- 2:05:55Two weeks later from the one we talked about last month, the only important
- 2:05:58part that came out of this article that's super important to F1 is something that
- 2:06:02I have been hoping, wishing and praying for, for many, many years, which is
- 2:06:07Audi or Porsche coming to Formula One.
- 2:06:10And that's the speculation right now from F1 insiders are saying if
- 2:06:14Volkswagen makes this move to provide power plants and whatnot, we may see
- 2:06:18Audi and Porsche or maybe Porsche Audi, like in the old Can Am days branded.
- 2:06:23Formula one cars, but we're not going to see them until 2026.
- 2:06:26So I'm really excited about this.
- 2:06:29I've seen different snippets of articles and things, and I can't tell
- 2:06:32one article look like they were going to come separately as two different
- 2:06:35teams, and then I've heard kind of together, I think if they were
- 2:06:38different teams, that would be amazing,
- 2:06:40but it would be alpha and Ferrari at that point.
- 2:06:42It's like, what's the difference, right?
- 2:06:43Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Red Bull.
- 2:06:45I mean, come on, speaking of Alfa Romeo, you know, there's There's been a lot of
- 2:06:49connecting the dots from, I'm going to put air quotes around it again, Formula
- 2:06:52One insiders about Team Andretti, which we talked about last month.
- 2:06:56And basically it looks like Andretti might be making a minority interest
- 2:07:03investment, or maybe it's going to be a majority interest investment.
- 2:07:08in Alfa Romeo, the former Sauber Formula One team.
- 2:07:12So maybe that's how they're going to fast track their way
- 2:07:15into Formula One next year.
- 2:07:17I mean, they've already signed up Grosjean, or Grosjean,
- 2:07:19however you pronounce it, for 2022 under Team Andretti.
- 2:07:22So I was wondering how they were going to do that.
- 2:07:24You know, get a kick of adrenaline here and get it done.
- 2:07:26But you know, if they're going to buy into alpha or male,
- 2:07:28maybe that's the way to do it.
- 2:07:30So I didn't understand this article either, because they were
- 2:07:32talking about, they've been looking to get an F1 for a long time.
- 2:07:35There's at least two teams that have changed hands in the past couple of years.
- 2:07:38Right.
- 2:07:39What were they just not eligible?
- 2:07:41Uh, are they gonna, and then you look at Porsche, the conversation we just had
- 2:07:45Portionality, my understanding is right.
- 2:07:47There's only so many available spots for teams in formula one.
- 2:07:51So you got two teams potentially coming in one, maybe he's going to buy one.
- 2:07:54So what's going to happen to you?
- 2:07:55Are they going to expand or how that's all going to work?
- 2:07:56I think it's going to be really interesting to watch, especially with
- 2:07:58the new cars and everything next year.
- 2:08:00I think the next couple of years are going to be exciting, especially with this year.
- 2:08:03The one thing I thought though, that I'm still confused about is I thought
- 2:08:06Williams was done and then I just hear their name being thrown around again.
- 2:08:09And Oh, Williams for next year.
- 2:08:11And I'm like, I thought they were like bankrupt or something,
- 2:08:13but they were bought by
- 2:08:14the investment group.
- 2:08:16Yeah.
- 2:08:16Those guys.
- 2:08:16And then a racing point.
- 2:08:17So
- 2:08:18for Cindy or whatever they were called before that and all that,
- 2:08:21that kind of thing, I just wish the big brands would come back.
- 2:08:23You'd have team Lotus and all this kind of stuff.
- 2:08:25Not all these, like, you know, it companies basically plastered
- 2:08:28on the side of the cars.
- 2:08:29One other article that came across my desk.
- 2:08:31From the formula one side of the house that I thought was kind of
- 2:08:34interesting were races that were planned for the last couple of years
- 2:08:37that didn't happen because of COVID.
- 2:08:38Obviously, the big one everybody knows Vietnam was supposed to
- 2:08:41happen on the street circuit that they built there look kind of cool.
- 2:08:44We saw these drone footage of where the cars were going to be and how they were
- 2:08:47going to navigate the street course.
- 2:08:50But I was like, okay, whatever.
- 2:08:52But then as I was scrolling through this list, I see things like Zuhai.
- 2:08:55That's cool.
- 2:08:56Ontario, what port Imperial street circuit.
- 2:08:59That's pretty interesting.
- 2:09:01Cause that's in New York.
- 2:09:03Not sure how that was going to work.
- 2:09:05A street circuit in Rome, the course looks absolutely mental.
- 2:09:09And then you had the Autopolis.
- 2:09:11So they were planning on like six new tracks up through the 2022 season that
- 2:09:16none of these are now going to happen.
- 2:09:18I mean, I'm glad they brought back like Zandvoort and some of the
- 2:09:20other classic Formula One tracks.
- 2:09:22I'd love to see like Zolder and some other stuff returned to the schedule as well.
- 2:09:26You know, Formula One does need to mix it up a little bit.
- 2:09:29I mean, there are a lot of tracks that have just been walked away from, and
- 2:09:32it's a shame, you know, you know, And so we'll run their occasionally prototypes
- 2:09:36will run their other forms of racing, you know, TCR and things like that.
- 2:09:39But, you know, it'd be nice to see the big boys, you know, bring it in.
- 2:09:41It's kind of like, you know, when the Olympics come to a new town,
- 2:09:43it brings in tourism, brings all this other kind of stuff.
- 2:09:45And I think, you know, F1 is the messenger for that.
- 2:09:48And I think it's a good thing for those economies.
- 2:09:50So,
- 2:09:50so they did bring Zandvoort back, right, which was pretty cool.
- 2:09:53Uh, it'd be cool to see them come back to South America.
- 2:09:55I just saw the other day that this is, it's either this year
- 2:09:58or next year is the last year for Sochi and they're moving to St.
- 2:10:01Petersburg.
- 2:10:01I think a new track somewhere else in Russia,
- 2:10:03but that's a new old track is didn't they run St.
- 2:10:05Petersburg like a million years ago?
- 2:10:07Oh, is it?
- 2:10:07I thought it was a brand new purpose.
- 2:10:09Or maybe, or maybe
- 2:10:09no, I'm thinking about the indie track in Florida, which was St.
- 2:10:12Petersburg.
- 2:10:13My apologies.
- 2:10:14Yeah, well, then you got
- 2:10:15Miami coming next year.
- 2:10:16So yeah, I think it's cool to see some tracks they haven't
- 2:10:18been on in a long time.
- 2:10:19A couple of this year, they were just somewhere they hadn't
- 2:10:21been since 2010 or something.
- 2:10:22So I like that track though.
- 2:10:24The Rome track that looks amazing.
- 2:10:26That looks like something straight out of Forza.
- 2:10:27Yeah.
- 2:10:28And that should be in Forza.
- 2:10:29Like some of these are in project cars, which I think is pretty cool.
- 2:10:31Like I've driven Zuhai, some of the other ones that are on this list in
- 2:10:34that game, which is kind of neat.
- 2:10:36I'd love to see this in Forza Motorsport 8 whenever that comes out.
- 2:10:39So who knows, right?
- 2:10:41But I guess we'll talk about more about the VRL as we.
- 2:10:44Head deeper into the fall.
- 2:10:45Outside of that, the only other thing that came across my desk that
- 2:10:48I thought was actually interesting was coming from the IMSA side of the
- 2:10:51house or the WEC side of the house.
- 2:10:53Michael Fastbender has a new set of videos.
- 2:10:56It's like a, almost like a drive to survive.
- 2:10:58They're on YouTube, he calls them the Road to Lamonts and.
- 2:11:02I hate to say they're not Drive to Survive and they're not quite Truth in 24 either.
- 2:11:06You know, there's no Jason Statham narrating or anything like that.
- 2:11:09If you're into following Michael Fassbender or any of his
- 2:11:12stuff, or you want to see, get introduced to Lamont's, watch it.
- 2:11:16I'm not discouraging anybody from doing that.
- 2:11:18It's just, I'm kind of like, okay, I already, I already
- 2:11:20know a lot of this stuff.
- 2:11:21So it's not really for me, but you know, hey.
- 2:11:23Check it out.
- 2:11:24Something different.
- 2:11:24Something to kill some time in the evenings now that we're heading
- 2:11:26into the fall and into the winter.
- 2:11:28So switching into our final section, kind of wrapping up with some local news here.
- 2:11:32Our year is coming to a close.
- 2:11:34We have not yet set the date for awards night.
- 2:11:37And if you're listening to this, the Watkins Glen HOD
- 2:11:40three day is already over with.
- 2:11:42So it pretty much wraps up the season for most of us as it's
- 2:11:45getting to be colder and colder.
- 2:11:46There's a few events left out there, you know, thanks to HPD junkie, taking
- 2:11:49care of keeping the, all those track dates up to date all the way into
- 2:11:54the end of the calendar year, because there are events going on in the
- 2:11:58South, especially where it's warmer and at West and things like that.
- 2:12:00But for us here in the mid Atlantic and the Northeast, you know,
- 2:12:03tracks are beginning to close down.
- 2:12:05And so you still do have the end of year events, you know, with Audi club,
- 2:12:08you know, traditionally at BIR in November, you know, things like that.
- 2:12:11So keep an eye on.
- 2:12:12the schedule helmets off the heroes with SCCA is at Shenandoah again, the
- 2:12:17beginning of November, very close to veterans day, not on veterans day, you
- 2:12:22know, look for those types of events.
- 2:12:23And obviously there's still going to be some autocross events as well
- 2:12:26in the DC area because they're doing track cross hosted a lot at summit
- 2:12:30point, which is really cool to watch.
- 2:12:31And some of our members actually do that, but there's some other
- 2:12:34big news coming this fall, right?
- 2:12:36Donovan.
- 2:12:36Yeah, that's right.
- 2:12:37So garage ride is moving platform.
- 2:12:40So Eric's been helping out a lot with that doing a lot of the work there.
- 2:12:43So we've been working pretty closely together, but pretty excited to
- 2:12:45announce that we're moving sort of, we're definitely changing platforms.
- 2:12:49Our old one's been around for five years.
- 2:12:51It's served us well, but we're excited.
- 2:12:52Some of the new features coming and some new stability in the platform.
- 2:12:56So If you haven't already, you can visit the, uh, the new platform.
- 2:13:00Uh, there's links on the current.
- 2:13:01com site.
- 2:13:02We hope to have everything built out and switched over
- 2:13:04officially sometime in November.
- 2:13:05So look forward to seeing you online.
- 2:13:07That's right.
- 2:13:07And there's a new phone app coming out as well.
- 2:13:09Right.
- 2:13:09So we should be looking for some big changes.
- 2:13:11That's right.
- 2:13:11Yeah.
- 2:13:12Those will replace your existing apps should just be a regular
- 2:13:15update from the app stores.
- 2:13:17So, yeah.
- 2:13:17Looking forward to it.
- 2:13:18Very cool.
- 2:13:18And if you have any feedback, there's still a bit of an open beta left.
- 2:13:22So reach out to Donovan.
- 2:13:24If you're an existing GarageRiot member, go ahead and check out the
- 2:13:27old site for details on how to get to the new one, do a passive reset and
- 2:13:31get in on the new platform now, and, you know, start making your transition
- 2:13:35over early because we are accepting, Early access into the new platform.
- 2:13:39Now, outside of that, what else is exciting going on Donovan?
- 2:13:42We're going to Rhode Atlanta.
- 2:13:44That's right.
- 2:13:45Petite Le Mans, right?
- 2:13:47And we are looking to get together with some of our friends that have
- 2:13:50been on the podcast before folks.
- 2:13:52Like David Middleton from my racing episode.
- 2:13:55That's going to air here in November.
- 2:13:56We're going to see Rob Holland from Rotec racing.
- 2:13:59We're going to see Phil and Brendan from max speed track days.
- 2:14:02We'll probably run into Mark Hicks from chin as well.
- 2:14:05Everybody's located down in the general.
- 2:14:08Atlanta area.
- 2:14:08So it's going to be good to get together with some of our guests.
- 2:14:10And our plan is to take photographs and maybe do some live streaming
- 2:14:14from down there between a garage riot and GTM while we're on site at the
- 2:14:18petite Lamont's for those two, three days that the races are going on.
- 2:14:22So we're looking forward to that.
- 2:14:23It's going to be a lot of fun.
- 2:14:24Yeah, definitely.
- 2:14:24We'll have to get you up to some of the mountain roads too, while we're here.
- 2:14:26I get to pick keys from a, from a bowl, right?
- 2:14:29Is that how it works?
- 2:14:30Uh, it's not that kind of party, but Hey, you never know
- 2:14:33outside of that sneak peek, a little bit of a spoiler alert of
- 2:14:36some other things that are coming.
- 2:14:37Online here in the fall, look forward to some really cool podcast episodes.
- 2:14:42Like we did last year, some lookbacks, some retrospectives, also our
- 2:14:46holiday shopping guide coming out.
- 2:14:48But also we are looking forward to going out West and reporting live
- 2:14:54from the mint 400 in December.
- 2:14:57So stay tuned for details on that and look For some upcoming episodes

- 2:15:57Man Dan, who interviews Sal Fanelli, president of Porsche Diesel USA.
- 2:16:01And finally, as we prep for fall motorsports, we revisited part two
- 2:16:04of Drew's All the Tourcums episode called Jesus Take the Wheel, as we

- 2:16:13Thank you to everyone that came on the show this month, and please look
- 2:16:15forward to more great episodes this fall.

- 2:17:54I still haven't gotten my check from the last one, by the way, Eric.
