- 0:37Visit Ramoslaw dot com. Hello Jeff Legwald. A, uh, I'm
- 0:43doing quite well. I want I want to hit you right away with the
- 0:46most obscure football question I can possibly ask you. And I ask this based
- 0:51upon ESPN dot COM's top ten quarterbacks in the NFL, which is out today.
- 0:57Jeff Lagwald, who is the fifth best quarterback in foot ball? Wow?
- 1:02Just out of nowhere? I know, think I know what the rankings
- 1:10say. I want. I want the the hard, unvarnished truth from Jeff
- 1:15Legwald. Okay, Leggy, Because we're we're assuming that there is a world
- 1:19where everybody agrees, and I know that doesn't really exist, but that everybody
- 1:23agrees. Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen in whatever
- 1:27order you want to put them in. Obviously Mahomes at number one. That
- 1:30that's the four quarter best quarterbacks in football, the four dudes that automatically elevate
- 1:34their franchise to eleven to twelve to thirteen win territory, that can put a
- 1:40team on their back and go and win a football game. After that,
- 1:42Who's the next best quarterback in football? I'm a Stroud guy, I'll be
- 1:48honest, all right. I really like Yeah, I like I like,
- 1:52I like his arc and yeah, it's probably uh, pushing him a little
- 1:59more to the forefront than he really is at the moment, but that's uh.
- 2:04I like his trajectory and his potential, and i'd i'd go there.
- 2:07And I'll also I'm a bigger I wouldn't put him fifth, but I'm a
- 2:13bigger Jalen Hurts fan than maybe some of the personnel guys are too. All
- 2:17Right, what do you think a rebound year for Aaron Rodgers looks like?
- 2:21Then? Because I said, Jeff, we had talked a little bit about
- 2:23Stroud, I think you know, one years of one year of evidence wasn't
- 2:28enough for me to shove him fifth, even though we liked the year that
- 2:30you got out of him. But if Rogers is healthy him back to form,
- 2:32should he naturally maybe reassume a top five position. Yeah, obviously,
- 2:38I mean the resume is the resume for him, for sure. It's just
- 2:44over time. I've not seen that injury be very kind to older players,
- 2:50and he's older. I guess, I guess I am just leaning on that.
- 2:53I mean, certainly the specialist and medicine these days he can he can
- 3:00get give him the best odds possible to come back from that. But history
- 3:06has nothing kind to that injury for a lot of guys. And you know,
- 3:10I just want to see it before I say, yeah, he can
- 3:15get all the way back to his his level. But you know, his
- 3:19advantage is like all those really you know, sort of can't and bound quarterbacks,
- 3:25he can win with his brain if his body can just hold up just
- 3:30enough to let him do it. The Brock Purty question. God, he's
- 3:38got some good skill position talent around him. Any quarterback in football would kill
- 3:43to have what Brock Purdy has. And yet can't take anything away from Brock.
- 3:47He did an awful lot of winning with that group. But but but
- 3:52what's really going on right there when you talk to people around the league,
- 3:55like, how do you get an accurate assessment of what Rock Party the player
- 4:00is inside a vacuum, not in the context of, hey, I get
- 4:05the quarterback Kyle Shanahan's All Star team over here. Well, mat I think,
- 4:13and I know some personnel guys who would say this as well, is
- 4:17don't cheapen what the guy is doing at one of the perhaps the most difficult
- 4:23job to do in professional sports. And I think it's unfair because a guy
- 4:29has success to say I always got good players around him. You know,
- 4:33Mahomes has some pretty good players around him and succeeds. Now Breck Purty is
- 4:39nowhere near that level of individual talent. But I think in the NFL,
- 4:45and we sometimes gloss it over. I think fitting into the place you are
- 4:51as part of your individual talent is, you know, do you make the
- 4:56most of the opportunity presented to you? Because they're all star, you know,
- 5:02skill position guys are not. There are plenty of quarterbacks who would have
- 5:08succeeded like Rock Purty did, or would have been too me first to succeed
- 5:16like he Like he made the most best plays. I would say he made
- 5:21the most good decisions. Not every most gifted player is going to make the
- 5:28best decision every time because they're going to reach because they have the skills to
- 5:32do it. So I don't cheapen a guy having the awareness and the ability
- 5:39it is an ability to use what he has to the maximum. And I
- 5:44think he's a better player than he's given credit for. And I think often
- 5:49quarterbacks a great position to get the argument going, who's elite, who's not
- 5:55elite? You know, the fact remains, even John Elway, who's one
- 6:01of the best quarterbacks any of us have ever seen walk the earth, didn't
- 6:06win a Super Bowl until his team was good enough around him. And it
- 6:10didn't matter how good he was. You talked about maximizing, you know,
- 6:14whatever you have athletically, taking what the defense gives you, making these sound
- 6:18decisions. The brock Purty playbook, so to speak. Is that kind of
- 6:24the plan for bow Nicks in year number one of like and honestly maybe years
- 6:30two, three, and four of in a best case scenario, that's the
- 6:33kind of football player the Broncos have. Yeah, And I think, no
- 6:39matter how gifted you are, that's sort of the plan anyway. I mean
- 6:43Mahomes is at his best when he's making the best decisions, you know,
- 6:46in what he has in front of him. And you know, the gift,
- 6:50the gifted part comes when you're lifting a play out of nothing, you
- 6:56know, or repairing what is broken after the snap, you know what I
- 7:00mean. That's the really gifted players. And that'd be an awful lot to
- 7:06expect of a guy like Nix, you know, just starting out and that
- 7:10you know, you really didn't see a lot of that, even in his
- 7:15best games, his best plays, his best series at Oregon, you didn't
- 7:19see a lot of him creating something out of you know, mayhem as it
- 7:27were. It was more functioning within the framework. And that is exactly why
- 7:32they took him. Sean Payton wants a quarterback to do essentially what he tells
- 7:38him to do. You know, when you get this look, do these
- 7:42things. When you get this look, do these things. That's what he
- 7:46wants and that's what bo Nicks is going to have to do. You know,
- 7:51when at what point he becomes the starter? All right? Jeff,
- 7:57what teams most intriguing to you is were finally set to open some camp.
- 8:00We've got through this stuff. I think We've had the fourth of July weekend
- 8:03past now, some unfortunate news for a couple of teams, but you know,
- 8:07that's kind of the weekend that the coaches you tell us, always dread.
- 8:09If they can get through that without a lot of news popping, no
- 8:13big deal. So who do you think is intriguing now that we're set to
- 8:16what open camp next week? Yeah? You mean overall league wise? Oh
- 8:22yeah, yeah, yeah, No, I like, you know, I'm
- 8:26interested to see where that. You know, are the Texans going to continue
- 8:31what they've started with that young group? I think is worthy. Certainly Rogers
- 8:35is a great storyline coming in, and you know, locally here I think
- 8:43people should and will always be intrigued by how the Chiefs get through. You
- 8:48know, their they're off season, and you know, I've just the Harball
- 8:52thing and with the Chargers is well worth some entertainment value because he's going to
- 8:58say and do something during training camp. You know, their fans and maybe
- 9:03even people league wide aren't quite ready for See. I was going to ask
- 9:07you whether I was waiting for the Chargers to come up. They're just kind
- 9:11of quietly sitting there, you know what I mean, And everybody is fascinated
- 9:13with Harbaugh, and I think for once, what's kind of crazy. At
- 9:16least to the first month of the season, they're maybe more attention on the
- 9:20coach than the quarterback for the first time in justin Herbert's career. That may
- 9:24be good for him. Frankly, he's made no secret he does not like
- 9:30the magnifying glass very much. You know, he doesn't life participating and media
- 9:37opportunities or marketing opportunities a lot of other guys you know do all the time.
- 9:43So that may actually be good for him. And you know, Harpball
- 9:48has a proven, pretty good proven record. If a quarterback will do what
- 9:54he asks him to do, that there is some success winning to be found.
- 9:56You may not have the individual you know things some other guys do,
- 10:01and I think that's gonna be the challenge there, because I think Herbert was
- 10:07in a position where he was a young guy with talent who is asked to
- 10:11just make it happen, you know, do whatever you need to do to
- 10:15make it happen. And that is not his environment anymore. It's going to
- 10:20be far more structured, and I think how those two guys work through that
- 10:24will determine how well they do right away. Jeff Legwald is with us on
- 10:28the Ramos Law hotline car accident. You need Ramo's law, medical doctor and
- 10:31attorney, visit Ramoslaw dot com. Let's go in the opposite direction. Teams
- 10:37that are interesting for other reasons. Jeff, I'm gonna give you these seven
- 10:41teams with the lowest win totals according to the odds makers in Las Vegas.
- 10:46Which of these teams will have the number one pick in the draft next year?
- 10:52Who's the worst of the worst. Four teams at six and a half
- 10:56as they're projected total, the Giants, the Raiders, the Washington Commanders,
- 11:03and the Tennessee Titans. Two teams at five and a half. That's the
- 11:05Carolina Panthers and your Denver Broncos in New England four and a half the total
- 11:13in Gerate Mao's first year as the head coach of the New England Patriots.
- 11:16Of that illustrious seven right there, which one of these teams is headed towards
- 11:22the number one pick in the draft? I think the Patriots have the most
- 11:28to overcome. I mean, that's a pretty heavy vacuum you're stepping into.
- 11:33And you know, Giron Mayo is a very respected coach, but that I'm
- 11:41not sure guys who've been head coaches for ten to eleven years would be ready
- 11:46for what's waiting for you there. And I think it's a pretty limited roster
- 11:50as well. So and I think the Giants, the Giants are the team
- 11:54when I talk to personnel guys, they're kind of the team where everybody trying
- 12:00to figure out, Okay, what exactly were you trying to accomplish in the
- 12:03off series? How does Brian Burns make sense? On that team? Jeff,
- 12:09That's the one team where people are just like, I'm not sure what
- 12:13they were doing or how that's gonna look. And you know they may not.
- 12:16They may have enough of talent to avoid the bottom out, but any
- 12:20of the any of that group, the common thread is is depth. You
- 12:26know, like like that's going to be a problem for teams in that position.
- 12:31And you know the Broncos are on that list. And you know,
- 12:35some well placed or some unluckily placed injuries for any of those groups could send
- 12:41you right over the edge. So you know that's always the factor, all
- 12:43right, So now let me let me turn this question on its head.
- 12:46Okay, there's always some team that's projected to be lousy. That makes the
- 12:50playoffs. The Houston Texans last year one of the lowest totals on the board,
- 12:54and they made the playoffs last year. Again, your seven teams,
- 12:58the Giants, the Raiders, the Commanders, the Titans, the Panthers,
- 13:01the Broncos, and the Patriots. Which one of that group can make the
- 13:07playoffs this year? Well, if the youth comes through, you know that,
- 13:11I don't know what make the playoffs. I think the Panthers can sort
- 13:15of pick themselves up off the mat. You know, the quarterback has the
- 13:18year two jump and they find a little bit of consistency. You know,
- 13:24they could be better. And you know, I always think the Raiders are
- 13:26more talented than they play. You just always kind of. I mean,
- 13:31you just look at the star power. I mean, they got one of
- 13:33the best defensive players in the league and they got one of the best offensive
- 13:37players of the league. Yeah, that should translate into a big jump,
- 13:43and somehow it never quite does, or at least recently. All right,
- 13:48who wins Justin Simmons sweepstakes? I don't know how else to put it.
- 13:50Where do you think he ends up? It's getting later and I knew you
- 13:54had said Jeff after the first wave you that you thought he might wait it
- 13:58out, look for the rights situation, because you do believe he wants to
- 14:01win. Who do you think ends up getting the guy? I don't have
- 14:05a good feel now, Andy, I'll be honest. That's a Titan.
- 14:09I said on on your Guys' show. I thought the Titans were going to
- 14:13be a good landing spot. And they did indeed sign a safety to a
- 14:16multi year deal. It just wasn't justin Sivens Jeff Legweld. Everybody, ESPN,
- 14:22that's where you go, that's where you read his stuff. Get all
- 14:24of the latest right there, Jeff, beautifully done as always. We'll talk
- 14:28to you Friday man. Thanks Mellas
