- 1:41Speaker 4: It is a great book.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Just in time for the two hundred and fiftieth birthday
- 1:46Speaker 5: of this country. John Butler, We're going to jump out
- 1:51Speaker 5: to the Player's Fund Center phone line and visit with
- 1:54Speaker 5: John Butler. His book is called Heartland Highways in Search
- 1:59Speaker 5: of America. Thirty three thousand miles. He traveled a couple
- 2:06Speaker 5: of health emergencies in between lots of diners.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Was there more good food than bad food? John?
- 2:16Speaker 6: Absolutely? I love the greasy spoon places as they say,
- 2:21Speaker 6: you know it's real food.
- 2:23Speaker 5: And you're always looking for local, right, I mean, if
- 2:26Speaker 5: you're traveling, you don't want a big time place, you
- 2:31Speaker 5: want a local.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Place, exactly.
- 2:34Speaker 6: I like the local dives, the like the Dixie Chicken. Yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 6: here in your neck of the woods.
- 2:41Speaker 4: You know, I didn't.
- 2:44Speaker 5: I don't know how you kept from gaining about a
- 2:47Speaker 5: thousand pounds on this trip.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Well, I drink a lot of coffee, chip a lot
- 2:54Speaker 6: of coffee.
- 2:56Speaker 5: I mean, good gosh. I don't know where to start,
- 3:00Speaker 5: but have you I'll ask you this. Since this trip,
- 3:04Speaker 5: have you been back and done like long weekends or weeks,
- 3:08Speaker 5: or been back to any of the places that ended
- 3:11Speaker 5: up being your favorite.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Well, I'm in the process of doing that, going back
- 3:16Speaker 6: and visiting some of those places, and I have a
- 3:21Speaker 6: few of them, and there's some people I want to
- 3:23Speaker 6: go back and visit with, some of my favorite people
- 3:26Speaker 6: that I've got to talk to, like Franco who was
- 3:28Speaker 6: an immigrant arrived with nothing but nerve and hope. You've
- 3:33Speaker 6: made a great success of him, of himself and his
- 3:35Speaker 6: family and Talian village, and he was a fascinating character.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Loved the guy and his family and they all worked together.
- 3:44Speaker 6: I came here as a kid with literally didn't even
- 3:46Speaker 6: have a suitcase, and his mom had died, his father died.
- 3:50Speaker 6: He came here from Italy and anyway built an incredible
- 3:54Speaker 6: restaurant and he is very famous in his area. In fact,
- 3:57Speaker 6: Caslo radio show he does on the weekend, and.
- 4:00Speaker 5: A little Italy restaurant in Nasa Wattocks, Virginia, correct.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Exactly exactly, Masswana uh.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Mad, So I didn't even know that town existed.
- 4:13Speaker 5: There's there's a few towns and places that I've been
- 4:17Speaker 5: to that are my favorite. I rode with you in
- 4:20Speaker 5: the Keys to Miami and farther. I love that that
- 4:25Speaker 5: area of the world. But you saw a lot of
- 4:30Speaker 5: off the road communities and places.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Did you not in this trip?
- 4:35Speaker 6: I did? I did. I met the Morgan family who
- 4:38Speaker 6: lived off the grid in the National Forest. They were
- 4:43Speaker 6: fascinating and they had a couple.
- 4:45Speaker 5: They had a couple of kids right that they they
- 4:47Speaker 5: had homeschooled.
- 4:49Speaker 6: They did. They were homeschooling, you know, teaching them in
- 4:53Speaker 6: the in the natural environment, uh, from from fishing to
- 4:56Speaker 6: uh to just living off the off the land. And
- 5:00Speaker 6: they were, they were, They were fascinating. They kind of
- 5:02Speaker 6: had gotten set up with the rat race and decided
- 5:05Speaker 6: to try this throughoute and they they were successful at it.
- 5:11Speaker 5: I mean they were in the middle of nowhere in
- 5:13Speaker 5: the National Forest, correct exactly. You have a picture in
- 5:19Speaker 5: the book of fly fish or fishing along the way.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I know you're a fly fisherman.
- 5:24Speaker 5: You didn't talk a lot about that, but but I'm
- 5:28Speaker 5: certain you made.
- 5:29Speaker 4: A few stops along the way to throw a fly
- 5:31Speaker 4: in the water, did you not.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I sure did. I sure did a little fishing and
- 5:37Speaker 6: in course camping along the way in the National Forest
- 5:40Speaker 6: in different places. I even spent a little time on
- 5:42Speaker 6: the Hopi Reservation. Yeah, in Arizona.
- 5:48Speaker 5: What what were your tell me tell me a little
- 5:52Speaker 5: bit about uh, some of your favorite areas that that
- 5:57Speaker 5: you had never been to, areas of the country that
- 6:00Speaker 5: were new to you.
- 6:03Speaker 6: Well, that that area where the Hopee Reservation is was
- 6:10Speaker 6: had a spiritual quality about it, and I had not
- 6:12Speaker 6: spent time there. Like a lot of people, we've maybe
- 6:16Speaker 6: we've traveled America, but we've flown over most of these places. Yes,
- 6:20Speaker 6: And you know, I encourage people to take a road trip,
- 6:22Speaker 6: go out and see America. It's a great, big, beautiful country.
- 6:27Speaker 6: The landscape, the diverse landscape and uh and the diverse people.
- 6:32Speaker 6: So that there's a I think it's a I think
- 6:36Speaker 6: it's on Prime. It's a movie out a series called
- 6:40Speaker 6: Dark Winds, and it features a lot of that landscape.
- 6:44Speaker 6: If you if you happen to catch that, that's that's
- 6:47Speaker 6: what I saw on experience, and it really was, I
- 6:49Speaker 6: want to say, a spiritual experience, just being out there
- 6:53Speaker 6: in that desolate territory.
- 6:56Speaker 5: And not far, not terribly far from the Grand Canyon exactly.
- 7:01Speaker 6: Which is unbelievable.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and at night even more unbelievable, right.
- 7:08Speaker 6: It really really is, it is, Chip, It's it's almost
- 7:12Speaker 6: scary to me. It's so overwhelming when you get out
- 7:15Speaker 6: away from the city lights, yep, and you get into
- 7:18Speaker 6: a space like that where there's you know, a dark
- 7:21Speaker 6: sky they call it, but just the millions of stars
- 7:26Speaker 6: and the moon, and it's it's overwhelming to me. I mean,
- 7:29Speaker 6: it's it's literally scary.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Were you a camper before you started all of this, you.
- 7:37Speaker 6: Know a little bit, you know, for boy scouts on
- 7:39Speaker 6: and Texes and and and I always enjoyed just being
- 7:43Speaker 6: out in that environment. You know, it's not always easy
- 7:46Speaker 6: sleeping on the ground.
- 7:47Speaker 5: But well I enjoy being in the environment for sure,
- 7:51Speaker 5: But I need a roof and a bedness shower, and
- 7:54Speaker 5: I know you have those things in your camper. But
- 7:58Speaker 5: my idea of camping is probably a motel six.
- 8:02Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Or Jackie Gleason said, you know, roughing it
- 8:06Speaker 6: is when you have to go for your own ice.
- 8:10Speaker 6: For those who remember Jackie.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Glen, I love that. Yeah you went to Cuba, did
- 8:16Speaker 4: you not?
- 8:18Speaker 6: I did? I did, which may seem strange for a
- 8:21Speaker 6: road trip across America, but the Cubans in in Little
- 8:26Speaker 6: Havanah in Miami. I love the Cuban people and enjoy
- 8:32Speaker 6: going there for for the Cuban food. I love the
- 8:35Speaker 6: Cuban sandwiches, the Cuban coffee and all that. Yes, yes, yes,
- 8:41Speaker 6: that's right, and it's interesting. Uh. They still protest there
- 8:46Speaker 6: every Sunday against against the Cuban leadership because you know,
- 8:50Speaker 6: some of their family were killed, their land was taken away,
- 8:53Speaker 6: and they don't want us to forget it. So I thought,
- 8:56Speaker 6: you know, I'm going to sail over to Cuba just
- 8:59Speaker 6: to see what they're talking about. And I did that
- 9:02Speaker 6: with three friends and we spent some time there in Cuba,
- 9:07Speaker 6: which was fascinating, and I saw what they were talking about.
- 9:10Speaker 6: People talk about free healthcare and all the free stuff
- 9:14Speaker 6: there in Cuba, but when you get over there, it's
- 9:16Speaker 6: a different story. The healthcare. If you got sick, you
- 9:20Speaker 6: would go to the hospital, but you'd have to bring
- 9:22Speaker 6: or your friends or your family would have to bring
- 9:25Speaker 6: the sheets, the towels, and your food every day, a
- 9:30Speaker 6: little different situation. Manison's free, but it's not available.
- 9:35Speaker 5: People at the restaurant at kaye Ocho, they weren't real
- 9:38Speaker 5: thrilled when you told them you were going to Cuba?
- 9:40Speaker 6: Were they exactly? Chip? The waiter was very friendly, The
- 9:44Speaker 6: people were friendly, and so I have it a mintioned.
- 9:47Speaker 6: I said, Hey, I'm thinking about sailing over to Cuba,
- 9:50Speaker 6: and blah blah blah. He immediately ducked his head and
- 9:54Speaker 6: treated me totally different, kind of gave me the cold shoulder.
- 9:57Speaker 6: And the reason was, they don't want you to spend
- 9:59Speaker 6: money or support Cuba anyway until the regime changes.
- 10:05Speaker 5: You met Gator Rivers in Savannah, Georgia from the Harlem Globetrotters.
- 10:12Speaker 6: One of my favorite people at Gator Rivers. He was
- 10:19Speaker 6: retired from the Harlem Globetrotters. He started. He started as
- 10:23Speaker 6: his mom was like twelve or thirteen when she had
- 10:26Speaker 6: him twelve.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Yeah that's amazing.
- 10:29Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, only child. And she took him to a
- 10:32Speaker 6: movie when he was about I don't know, he was young,
- 10:35Speaker 6: and he's sitting there with his mom, his young mom,
- 10:38Speaker 6: and there was a movie about the Harlem glow Triters,
- 10:41Speaker 6: and he points out there he goes, Mom, that's what
- 10:43Speaker 6: I'm going to be someday. And he worked hard. He
- 10:46Speaker 6: got up early, ran wound up leading his high school
- 10:50Speaker 6: team to a championship and for the state, and then
- 10:56Speaker 6: became a Harlem globetrotter. He retired, came back to his community, Savannah,
- 11:01Speaker 6: working in the exact neighborhood where he grew up with
- 11:03Speaker 6: kids who lived there. And I asked Kater, I said, well,
- 11:07Speaker 6: what's the difference between the kids that you grew up
- 11:09Speaker 6: with and the kids you work with today? And he said, well,
- 11:13Speaker 6: I'll tell you the difference, he said, the kids that
- 11:16Speaker 6: I grew up with and myself. He said, my attitude
- 11:19Speaker 6: was I'm going to show you. I'm going to show
- 11:22Speaker 6: you what I got. Yeah, he said, the kids today
- 11:25Speaker 6: look at you and go and show me what show
- 11:27Speaker 6: me what you're going to do for me.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Exactly exactly.
- 11:31Speaker 6: I remember an attitude he said, it's hard to work with.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Actually, he's the same thing Nick Saban said when he
- 11:36Speaker 5: got out of the business.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 11:41Speaker 5: When you got off the road, was there a place
- 11:45Speaker 5: not people, we'll talk about that, but was there a
- 11:48Speaker 5: place that you couldn't wait to get back to?
- 11:53Speaker 6: You know, I'd kind of like to go back to
- 11:55Speaker 6: the Arizona area. The Dakota's Love Love the Dakotas Mount Rushmore.
- 12:01Speaker 4: That's the first time you had seen Mount Rushmore, was
- 12:03Speaker 4: it not?
- 12:04Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, everybody's got to go see Mount Rushmore.
- 12:08Speaker 6: And if you see it, see it during the day,
- 12:10Speaker 6: but stay for the night show, the light show, and
- 12:12Speaker 6: then go across around near there to Crazy Horse Memorial.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Crazy Horse Memorial, and I talk with a fascinating lady, Yadviga.
- 12:23Speaker 6: She her dad was the one who started the sculpture
- 12:27Speaker 6: and she and her sister Adiga and her sister kept
- 12:31Speaker 6: the work going after the death of her father. And
- 12:34Speaker 6: it's still it's an ongoing sculpture. It's not finished, and
- 12:39Speaker 6: it's a tribute to Crazy Horse. And definitely see that
- 12:42Speaker 6: l light show at night when you go to see
- 12:44Speaker 6: Crazy Horse Memorial.
- 12:45Speaker 4: And it's been ongoing for a long time, has it not?
- 12:49Speaker 6: It has? Yes. Well. Also I might mention too, just
- 12:56Speaker 6: in the Dakota's there there's a spot where the ghost plane.
- 13:02Speaker 6: People may remember the ghost plane that had Payne Stuart famous.
- 13:07Speaker 4: You right about that, Yes, well.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Payne Stewart his agents were on this plane. They were
- 13:12Speaker 6: actually best in for Texas. They took off from Florida
- 13:17Speaker 6: and the parent of the Oxygen fails. They all died
- 13:21Speaker 6: on board, so that since their ghost were flying across America,
- 13:27Speaker 6: the Air Force was ready to shoot it out of
- 13:29Speaker 6: the air if it was going to crash into a
- 13:32Speaker 6: populated area, but it actually crashed into a farm. I
- 13:36Speaker 6: visited the spot there and talked with a lady who
- 13:39Speaker 6: wrote a poem about that.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Yes, I mean those of us who are old enough,
- 13:48Speaker 5: that's one of the things you just don't forget. It
- 13:50Speaker 5: was on the news all day long. They were tracking
- 13:52Speaker 5: this plane all over America.
- 13:55Speaker 6: Yes, yes, and so the children of the people on
- 14:00Speaker 6: board were of course watching and as we experience.
- 14:03Speaker 5: That, I didn't know that there was a real Wizard
- 14:08Speaker 5: of Oz house in Liberty, Kansas that you write about.
- 14:12Speaker 6: Yeah, that was that was fun. That was fun. It's
- 14:17Speaker 6: it's a little down home, but they have a whole
- 14:20Speaker 6: program there in the town where they have a Dorothy
- 14:24Speaker 6: or several people who played Dorothy. So I got to
- 14:27Speaker 6: interview one of the little girls who played.
- 14:29Speaker 5: The Do you know about that before you drove by it?
- 14:32Speaker 5: How did you come upon it?
- 14:34Speaker 6: I did, not, in fact ship that, and most of
- 14:38Speaker 6: my experiences were serendipityus. Yes, So I would ask people
- 14:43Speaker 6: talk to a little diner and say, hey, what's interesting
- 14:45Speaker 6: around here. And by the way, I traveled off the
- 14:49Speaker 6: main highways. I traveled the back roads as much as possible,
- 14:52Speaker 6: and I'd ask and they say, yeah, there's something going
- 14:54Speaker 6: on down wherever, or there's you know, the Dorothy House,
- 14:59Speaker 6: the sort of oz house. I go, that sounds interesting,
- 15:02Speaker 6: and I'd take off and go visit it. And so
- 15:05Speaker 6: that's what I did, and it was an interesting experience.
- 15:07Speaker 6: It's a great drive, and so I was driving up
- 15:10Speaker 6: to the middle of the country.
- 15:11Speaker 5: We think of people in Texas as the friendliest. We
- 15:16Speaker 5: think of people in the Northeast maybe not so much.
- 15:20Speaker 5: But in your travels and in your writing, you didn't
- 15:26Speaker 5: distinguish very much. You talked about the heart of America
- 15:29Speaker 5: and the fact that although we can turn on the
- 15:33Speaker 5: news and see this country is divided, you didn't get
- 15:37Speaker 5: a lot of that in your travels off road, did you.
- 15:41Speaker 6: I didn't. There's some people who don't believe me, but
- 15:44Speaker 6: I really found that we're not as divided as the
- 15:48Speaker 6: media and the algorithms on our phone tend to make
- 15:52Speaker 6: us believe. People were nice and helpful literally everywhere, even
- 15:59Speaker 6: in the heart of New York City, yes, uh, in La,
- 16:03Speaker 6: in Miami, and in all the smaller towns, which which
- 16:06Speaker 6: you would expect more, but they really were. And the
- 16:09Speaker 6: smaller towns sometimes they're a little a little biskittish to
- 16:12Speaker 6: diner because it's you know, you're not from around here.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 6: Yeah, And even though I tried to blend in, you know,
- 16:17Speaker 6: I wasn't from around there. So but they were very
- 16:20Speaker 6: accepting once you started the conversation. And you know, I
- 16:24Speaker 6: traveled the big cities and the small cities. I actually
- 16:28Speaker 6: picked up the van that I had, the airstream van
- 16:32Speaker 6: up in Baltimore and the first stop I made was
- 16:34Speaker 6: at the Liberty Bill. I didn't plan that really, just
- 16:37Speaker 6: happened to be that way.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Right, and and there I think there and let's go
- 16:45Speaker 5: back to the people then, I know there are places
- 16:48Speaker 5: that stood out. You've already mentioned one of the immigrants
- 16:54Speaker 5: in Virginia, Franco, that stood out.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Did you make friends?
- 16:59Speaker 5: Are you still in with some of the people you
- 17:01Speaker 5: met along the way, Well.
- 17:04Speaker 6: I am, I am. I am with some of them,
- 17:06Speaker 6: and I uh, I'm going to try to reach out
- 17:09Speaker 6: just about everybody that I talked to. I'm gonna tribe
- 17:13Speaker 6: we all exchanged emails, you know, so I was able
- 17:16Speaker 6: to keep up that way and just kind of see
- 17:18Speaker 6: where they are today. That would be fascinating.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Is there a diner that's calling your name somewhere that
- 17:25Speaker 5: you left and said I need to come back here
- 17:28Speaker 5: because this was really good?
- 17:31Speaker 6: Well, it was the it was the Nowhere Diner was what?
- 17:38Speaker 6: And and there's a coup again, a number of them.
- 17:42Speaker 5: The Nowhere Cafe in Connecticut exactly exactly.
- 17:46Speaker 6: And there was a little store near there that I
- 17:48Speaker 6: write about. It was similar to the little store my
- 17:52Speaker 6: dad owned when.
- 17:53Speaker 7: I was little.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Right, brought back a lot of memories.
- 17:57Speaker 5: And even though you live in Texas, there were areas
- 18:02Speaker 5: you went out to the oil pitch in West Texas,
- 18:04Speaker 5: you you went to places maybe that you hadn't been
- 18:08Speaker 5: before or spent a lot of time or just flown
- 18:10Speaker 5: over or driven.
- 18:11Speaker 6: Through exactly the oil fields in West Texas. Uh, you
- 18:18Speaker 6: could just kind of feel the ghost of some of
- 18:20Speaker 6: those places where they had been boomtowns at one time.
- 18:26Speaker 4: And like in Burnett there, yep, you went to the
- 18:29Speaker 4: Cadillac Ranch.
- 18:31Speaker 6: Went to the Cadillac Ranch. You got to visit the Catflac.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Driving out towards towards Amarillo.
- 18:38Speaker 5: I don't know how many times I have driven by
- 18:41Speaker 5: the Cadillac Ranch over the years without stopping.
- 18:44Speaker 6: John, Oh my gosh, you got Oh my gosh, if
- 18:46Speaker 6: you're gonna stop, I.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Know, I know you made me want to stop.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Take a take a can of spray paint, and leave
- 18:54Speaker 6: your mark on the Cadillacs as as people people have
- 18:57Speaker 6: done over the years, and you know they're And Amarillo
- 19:00Speaker 6: is a fascinating place. And not far from Amarillo is
- 19:05Speaker 6: the Palladuro Canyon.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Yes, John, I am ashamed to admit I have never
- 19:13Speaker 5: been to the Palladera Canyon. I have never seen the
- 19:18Speaker 5: the stage play Texas that they do there every summer.
- 19:22Speaker 4: It's on my list.
- 19:23Speaker 5: My list is getting longer and the days are getting shorter,
- 19:27Speaker 5: and I'm ashamed to say I have never been there before.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Well that's a must see also along with not Rushmore
- 19:35Speaker 6: and the Crazy Rouge memorial. It's it's it's it's a
- 19:40Speaker 6: you know, a beautiful, a beautiful place in Texas that
- 19:43Speaker 6: a lot of people do not know about. But it's
- 19:46Speaker 6: a great place and if you want to camp, that's
- 19:47Speaker 6: that's the place to camp.
- 19:49Speaker 5: I don't want to camp, but I know their hotels nearby.
- 19:55Speaker 5: The book is called Heartland Highways in Search of America.
- 19:59Speaker 5: It is really, really fascinating. John. I appreciate the time
- 20:05Speaker 5: you took me to places that I've been before, but
- 20:08Speaker 5: you also took me to lots of places I've never
- 20:10Speaker 5: been before.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Well, I appreciate you saying that. That's the biggest compliment
- 20:16Speaker 6: I get is that people say they felt like they
- 20:18Speaker 6: were writing along with me, and it's just, you know,
- 20:21Speaker 6: I didn't go with an agenda. I didn't go with expectations,
- 20:24Speaker 6: and so it's just America as it unfolded before me,
- 20:28Speaker 6: from big cities to little cities, and the people I met,
- 20:32Speaker 6: Like I in Hollywood there there was a young starlet,
- 20:37Speaker 6: Angela Parrish, who was a hopeful who lived in her car,
- 20:40Speaker 6: so she got her big break with a song she
- 20:43Speaker 6: had written.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yep.
- 20:44Speaker 6: And then you know some of the old Hollywood people
- 20:48Speaker 6: that I met, some of the old cowboys Johnny Crawford
- 20:51Speaker 6: who was in the rifle and back way back in
- 20:53Speaker 6: the fifties. Yes, So just across the board, from just
- 20:57Speaker 6: regular people and diners to people who were a little
- 21:01Speaker 6: more well known.
- 21:02Speaker 5: What's the best way to get one of these books, John, Well,
- 21:08Speaker 5: you know.
- 21:09Speaker 6: Like sixty seventy percent of all the books are sold
- 21:11Speaker 6: on Amazon.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Yep.
- 21:12Speaker 6: Online, that's the easiest. We're also online with Barnes and Noble, okay.
- 21:18Speaker 8: And.
- 21:19Speaker 6: It's available at any bookstore. If they don't have it,
- 21:22Speaker 6: they'll order it. But I've rutther people to go to
- 21:25Speaker 6: the small bookstores, but unfortunately Amazon's kind of taken over
- 21:29Speaker 6: the market.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Heartland Highways in Search of America. The author is John Butler. John,
- 21:35Speaker 5: I really appreciate your time today. Thanks so much.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Chip, I really enjoyed talking with you. Appreciate it all right.

- 24:40Speaker 5: Months after the controversial rapper took out a full page
- 24:45Speaker 5: ad in the Wall Street Journal to apologize for previous
- 24:49Speaker 5: hateful remarks. He's announcing a live performance in La at
- 24:55Speaker 5: Sofi Stadium on April third, in honor of my birthday.
- 25:03Speaker 5: The show Build Ye Live in Los Angeles. Boy, I
- 25:09Speaker 5: bet they took a while to come up with that
- 25:11Speaker 5: title is described as the only performance in the city.
- 25:16Speaker 5: In a promo image for the event. A website associated
- 25:21Speaker 5: with the concert offers little more information except a directive
- 25:27Speaker 5: to pre save Bully.
- 25:30Speaker 4: The name of the upcoming album, ah Here We Go
- 25:34Speaker 4: that checks out.
- 25:35Speaker 5: Previously released preview EPs under the same name were dropped.
- 25:40Speaker 5: In June of twenty twenty five. A video posted to
- 25:46Speaker 5: the Instagram Stories takes you to a page with the
- 25:50Speaker 5: album's title, which is set for release this month.
- 26:00Speaker 11: I'm just laughing because you know this was all of course,
- 26:03Speaker 11: obviously it was all planned, like Okay, this is when
- 26:06Speaker 11: we're gonna do the apology, this is when we're gonna
- 26:10Speaker 11: release this.
- 26:11Speaker 9: Give some time.
- 26:12Speaker 4: You're so jaded.
- 26:14Speaker 11: I just don't like him.
- 26:17Speaker 12: I know, I don't know.
- 26:18Speaker 11: I know, I don't know him, but like you know,
- 26:21Speaker 11: it doesn't matter and the big skw of things.
- 26:23Speaker 6: But I just do not like him.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:26Speaker 11: I mean, I just don't.
- 26:28Speaker 4: I don't. Hey, you know, it's a free country.
- 26:32Speaker 11: He only passes. This guy has gotten for just being
- 26:34Speaker 11: a horrible, horrible human being, Like a horrible.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Human he's gotten some passes. There's no doubt.
- 26:41Speaker 11: I'm not saying he's not gone through stuff, because I
- 26:43Speaker 11: get that, but gosh, I mean, you know, rats I
- 26:48Speaker 11: guess I don't.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Know, so so from from one singer to another, I
- 26:52Speaker 5: don't think.
- 26:52Speaker 4: We talked about the fact.
- 26:54Speaker 5: A couple of weeks ago, I said, Hey, I'm gonna
- 26:56Speaker 5: go to the Elvis movie. You know that new concert
- 26:58Speaker 5: movie I did.
- 27:00Speaker 4: It was excellent. Yeah, it was just excellent.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I thoroughly enjoyed it because it was it really was
- 27:08Speaker 5: mostly concert.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Right they had they had gone back now.
- 27:14Speaker 5: They they had interviews, uh, with with Elvis from a
- 27:18Speaker 5: long time ago that had never been seen. They didn't
- 27:22Speaker 5: delve a lot into you know, what we know was
- 27:25Speaker 5: a fairly turbulent personal life near the end.
- 27:30Speaker 4: They didn't do a lot of that.
- 27:31Speaker 5: It was a lot of him singing, and they had
- 27:34Speaker 5: they had video of him preparing his Las Vegas, you
- 27:41Speaker 5: know shows, and so I really enjoyed it. The music,
- 27:46Speaker 5: of course, was great, and uh, I thought it was
- 27:49Speaker 5: really well done.
- 27:53Speaker 4: It's called epic LEAs Boerban is a director.
- 27:56Speaker 5: He's done a bunch of you know, famous movies that
- 28:00Speaker 5: epic stands.
- 28:00Speaker 4: For Elvis Presley in concert. So I didn't know all
- 28:04Speaker 4: of that, but yeah, it may not be around.
- 28:08Speaker 5: I have a checked, but if you can find it,
- 28:11Speaker 5: I would say find it. You know, Taylor Sheridan is
- 28:15Speaker 5: a really busy guy. He writes a lot of television, right.
- 28:21Speaker 5: I know you're going to be shocked to know he
- 28:23Speaker 5: has a new series coming out. It's called The Madison.
- 28:30Speaker 5: He gave a rare speech last night, joking I can't
- 28:35Speaker 5: stand these things at the Lincoln Center, so for me
- 28:39Speaker 5: to be at one means I'm really proud of the project,
- 28:42Speaker 5: which I am. Everyone in here is either probably involved
- 28:46Speaker 5: in this industry or followed it for a while and
- 28:49Speaker 5: knows just how hard it is to get anything made
- 28:52Speaker 5: in this business. Even bad ones are hard to make,
- 28:55Speaker 5: and I don't think we made a bad one. I'd
- 28:59Speaker 5: like to begin by saying thanking my wife, who believed
- 29:01Speaker 5: in me what no one else did, including myself. Without her,
- 29:04Speaker 5: I'd just be the coolest acting coach in LA. I'm
- 29:09Speaker 5: really glad I'm not. His latest series starring Michelle Pfeiffer.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Oh, I like her.
- 29:18Speaker 5: She can act, and Kurt Russell explained how he moved
- 29:23Speaker 5: to New York in his twenties and had a love
- 29:26Speaker 5: hate relationship with the city. Sometimes you have to leave
- 29:30Speaker 5: a place to really know it and love it. With
- 29:33Speaker 5: The Madison being a story of a family that has
- 29:36Speaker 5: to leave it to learn to love it again. It
- 29:41Speaker 5: follows a New York City family in the Madison Valley
- 29:46Speaker 5: of Central Montana, which you know, he's shot a lot
- 29:51Speaker 5: of his stuff in the west so he uh, I
- 29:56Speaker 5: mean he said it demanded a lot from everyone.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Hey, this guy just has the magic touch. I'm I
- 30:06Speaker 4: will watch it.
- 30:06Speaker 11: He knows what he's doing, he does, he's good at
- 30:09Speaker 11: what he does.
- 30:09Speaker 5: He is very good at what he does and prolific.
- 30:13Speaker 5: My gosh, I don't know how he has time to
- 30:16Speaker 5: write all this stuff.
- 30:19Speaker 4: You never know, I mean, seriously keeps going.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it doesn't shut off, so by the way, it's
- 30:25Speaker 5: going to be on Paramount. Plus it doesn't say exactly
- 30:28Speaker 5: when it's coming out, so we'll look for that.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yep.
- 30:34Speaker 11: I don't know if you've heard about this, because I
- 30:35Speaker 11: didn't hear about it until recently. But authorities have identified
- 30:38Speaker 11: the woman who allegedly opened fire on Rihanna's everybody, Oh.
- 30:42Speaker 4: I heard about I heard about with a.
- 30:45Speaker 11: AR fifteen rifle.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Wow.
- 30:47Speaker 11: Uh yeah. So Ivanna Ortiz, who's thirty five, was arrested
- 30:52Speaker 11: following Sunday. So this past Sunday, in the citident and
- 30:55Speaker 11: booked on suspicion of attempted murder. Yeah, her bail has
- 30:59Speaker 11: been said for ten point two two five million.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Wow, Hey, I've got I've got a question, and I
- 31:05Speaker 5: I'm not making light of this situation, but do you
- 31:11Speaker 5: think if a random lady shot at you or at me,
- 31:17Speaker 5: her bail would be ten point two million dollars?
- 31:21Speaker 1: No?
- 31:22Speaker 11: Probably be like, Okay, we're gonna set it at fifty thousand.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Yeah if you even yeah, you know what I mean.
- 31:31Speaker 4: It's like in the middle of Sunday afternoon.
- 31:34Speaker 11: Yeah, it was Sunday. I want About one fifteen pm,
- 31:38Speaker 11: officers responded to a call about shots fired at the home. Yeah.
- 31:43Speaker 11: Apparently she allegedly parked car outside of the home and
- 31:48Speaker 11: fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene. So yeah, they
- 31:53Speaker 11: did say she used an Air fifteen type rifle and
- 31:55Speaker 11: the impacts were mainly on the exterior gates and walls.
- 31:58Speaker 11: She was taken into custom the after police located her
- 32:01Speaker 11: car at the Sherman Oaks Gallery, a shopping center about
- 32:05Speaker 11: eight miles from the home. The weapon was recovered. Uh,
- 32:08Speaker 11: there were no injuries, thank god. But wild they don't
- 32:13Speaker 11: they don't they haven't disclosed a potential motive.
- 32:16Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 32:17Speaker 11: Well I have to keep you updated.
- 32:19Speaker 4: On that, but I mean, I mean that's crazy.
- 32:22Speaker 11: Mental health is important. Let's just say that.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Moving on, Yah Taylor.
- 32:29Speaker 11: So because we got to throw in one tailor's good.
- 32:31Speaker 4: It's been a while.
- 32:33Speaker 11: You won't catch Jack White taking a page on Taylor
- 32:36Speaker 11: Swift's playbook when it comes to songwriting, because the White
- 32:39Speaker 11: Stripes frontman says pinning songs about breakups is a total snoode.
- 32:45Speaker 11: So Jack sat down for an interview over the weekend
- 32:50Speaker 11: and threw a little shade Taylor's way, which good luck, dude,
- 32:54Speaker 11: that's all.
- 32:55Speaker 12: He's like, this is gonna, this is gonna put me
- 33:00Speaker 12: back in the spotlight some more, saying the trend of
- 33:04Speaker 12: pop stars writing songs about their public breakups in the
- 33:07Speaker 12: Taylor Swift way just doesn't interest him, which I honestly,
- 33:12Speaker 12: I don't think that would.
- 33:13Speaker 11: That wouldn't be my first thought when I saw him
- 33:15Speaker 11: that you know he'd be a seller Swift fan and
- 33:17Speaker 11: you would take inspiration from her writing stick. But he
- 33:20Speaker 11: did add he finds it a little boring to write
- 33:24Speaker 11: about himself, even if he had an interesting day because
- 33:27Speaker 11: he already lived it and has no desire to relive
- 33:29Speaker 11: it again. But there is a catch. Jack says, if
- 33:33Speaker 11: he goes through something painful, he's not blasting it online
- 33:36Speaker 11: for some idiot to stomp all over. Instead, he'll channel
- 33:39Speaker 11: a part of the experience into his music and morphit
- 33:42Speaker 11: into somebody else's character. Jack notes said he only really
- 33:47Speaker 11: understands himself once he steps into somebody else's shoes. So technically,
- 33:52Speaker 11: I guess he's saying, yes, I can write about myself,
- 33:55Speaker 11: but I just pretend it's somebody else's problem.
- 33:58Speaker 4: I feel like.
- 33:58Speaker 7: It's what this is interesting.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Yeah, okay.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Liza Minelli has a memoir out Kids. Wait till you
- 34:10Speaker 5: hear this One reads like a conversation with a close pal.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Longtime friend Michael Feinstein, started recording her telling her life
- 34:22Speaker 5: story in twenty fourteen. Just over four hundred pages, It
- 34:28Speaker 5: opens up about her childhood with mother Judy Garland, her
- 34:33Speaker 5: role in Cabaret, her journey to sobriety, darker moments of
- 34:40Speaker 5: grief and addiction.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Her memoir is an overall romp through.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Life in showbiz, complete with plenty of witty zingers. Readers
- 34:52Speaker 5: will delight in the Who's Who of Hollywood as Manelli
- 34:55Speaker 5: describes wild parties, torrid affairs, theater magic. I mean, she's
- 35:02Speaker 5: lived a life. She's seventy nine, talks about whirlwind romances
- 35:09Speaker 5: with cabaret director Bob Fossey, a disastrous affair with Martin Scorsese,
- 35:17Speaker 5: actor Ben Vereen, Desi Arnez Junior, comedian Peter Sellers, ex
- 35:23Speaker 5: husbands Jack Hayley Junior, and Mark jerro If this is
- 35:29Speaker 5: confusing to you, how do you think I felt?
- 35:31Speaker 4: She said?
- 35:33Speaker 5: So? Apparently Liza has been with a lot of men
- 35:36Speaker 5: over the years. Just say it, and I want.
- 35:40Speaker 4: To throw this out before we get to birthdays.
- 35:46Speaker 5: Arnold Schwarzenegger, forty five years after Conan, the Barbarian is
- 35:54Speaker 5: picking up the sword again in King Conan, the upcoming
- 36:01Speaker 5: third installment of the franchise. Christopher macquarie of the Usual
- 36:10Speaker 5: Suspects is set to write and direct the film. He's
- 36:15Speaker 5: spent the last decade as Tom Cruise's partner in crime
- 36:19Speaker 5: on the four Mission Impossible movies.
- 36:22Speaker 4: He's done Jack Reacher.
- 36:25Speaker 5: So this guy's done a lot, and if he can
- 36:28Speaker 5: make this interesting forty five years after the fact, more
- 36:33Speaker 5: power to him, Arnold says, it's a great story where
- 36:37Speaker 5: Conan was king for forty years. He gets complacent, forced
- 36:42Speaker 5: out of the kingdom, there's conflict, he comes back all
- 36:47Speaker 5: kinds of madness and violence and magic and creatures.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Well, hey, we'll see.
- 36:55Speaker 5: You know, if Sylvester Stallone could do another Rambo Arnold,
- 37:01Speaker 5: I guess can do another Conan.
- 37:04Speaker 4: I don't know. Hey, this is wild.
- 37:11Speaker 5: This is why I'm here to go see stuff like
- 37:13Speaker 5: this so I can report to the listener. All right,
- 37:16Speaker 5: let's do some birthdays. We've got baseball coming up. Carol

- 38:45Speaker 5: Oh look at this, Yes, we do. We have a
