- 0:02Speaker 1: I so look forward to these hours on the program.
- 0:10Speaker 1: These are the hours when we welcome to the show.
- 0:15Speaker 1: US Congresswoman Kat Camick from Florida's third District, joining Jose
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Me on The Morning Show with Preston Scott. Kat,
- 0:22Speaker 1: how in the world are you?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Good morning, my friend? It is great to be with you.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I thought, what can I ask her that's not going
- 0:33Speaker 1: to put her well, that's not going to put her
- 0:36Speaker 1: in a corner, but would be different. Here's what I
- 0:39Speaker 1: came up with. What can you What can you tell
- 0:42Speaker 1: us that we should know about what's going on up there?
- 0:47Speaker 1: But we probably don't know that you can tell us.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Oh boy, I don't know if there's enough time to
- 0:56Speaker 2: go through that. And I just spilled my coffee all
- 1:01Speaker 2: over myself, So I am multipatching while trying to come
- 1:06Speaker 2: up with a good answer for you.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Literally just spill it all over myself. So that's gonna
- 1:12Speaker 3: be fun.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like delicious coffee all day, you know.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Last night I was I got into d C. And
- 1:21Speaker 3: of course anyone who's on X or you know, any
- 1:24Speaker 3: kind of social media, they have to I'm assuming I
- 1:28Speaker 3: feel like I do. They hop on and.
- 1:29Speaker 2: They see what looks like the you know, the Real
- 1:32Speaker 2: Housewives of Washington, d C.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Capitol Hill edition, and it is.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It is really really frustrating being a member who's trying
- 1:40Speaker 2: to get real stuff done.
- 1:43Speaker 3: And stuff that matters. Not to say that you know,
- 1:46Speaker 3: all of this this stuff with you know.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Improprieties isn't important.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It certainly is important to call it out, get these bums.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Out, but it's starting to feel very tick for TAT
- 1:57Speaker 2: and and that's very frustrating.
- 2:00Speaker 3: So I think the thing that and this is a
- 2:02Speaker 3: little bit more hopeful. Hi, baby agi oggie just walked by.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I would say the thing that people need to know
- 2:09Speaker 2: is that there are actual, real things happening that are
- 2:13Speaker 2: not getting covered in any shape, way or form.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Up Here a good example last night when I got
- 2:18Speaker 3: into DC, I.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Had a meeting with the CEO of a Fortune fifty
- 2:21Speaker 2: company who is deeply involved. Every single day, every American
- 2:28Speaker 2: uses this product and they're in direct competition with a
- 2:31Speaker 2: Chinese product.
- 2:32Speaker 3: That has infiltrated our market and it is a national.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Security risk to our banking system. And so me and
- 2:39Speaker 2: two chairmen of different committees, we were sitting there formulating
- 2:43Speaker 2: how we were going to take on this behemoth of
- 2:46Speaker 2: a national security threat, and that's the kind of stuff.
- 2:49Speaker 3: That happens every single day.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But no one ever hears about.
- 2:54Speaker 3: And so.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I would say that is something that folks should be
- 2:59Speaker 2: aware of and have a little bit of comfort that
- 3:01Speaker 2: there is actual, real work happening up here. It's not
- 3:03Speaker 2: just a reality crap show.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I quoted a comment you made the last time we
- 3:09Speaker 1: visited together when you said Democrats are the opposition party,
- 3:16Speaker 1: the US Senate is the enemy. I think that was
- 3:20Speaker 1: one of the most insightful comments I've heard any elected
- 3:23Speaker 1: officer make in years. I want to circle back to
- 3:28Speaker 1: that because the conflict with the Iran I personally don't
- 3:33Speaker 1: think it's a war. I think it's a conflict. If
- 3:35Speaker 1: we put boots on the ground, okay, we can call
- 3:38Speaker 1: it then a war. But the bottom line is we
- 3:40Speaker 1: seem to have lost our eye on the ball, which
- 3:44Speaker 1: is the save act. What's going on? Kat? Why is
- 3:47Speaker 1: the Senate not just doing whatever we've got to do
- 3:51Speaker 1: and get the thing done, Because if we don't do it,
- 3:54Speaker 1: with the redistrict thing that's being voted on in different
- 3:57Speaker 1: parts of the country, with what's coming our way, may
- 4:00Speaker 1: not be ever a chance to do it again.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Correct.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I am so incredibly frustrated by the Senate.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I talked to my Senate counterparts all the time, and.
- 4:13Speaker 2: They have yet to give me a good answer as
- 4:15Speaker 2: to why the Save Act cannot be brought to the floor.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Now. I even have talked to Senator Soon and he said, well,
- 4:22Speaker 3: it will fail, and.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I said, so, let it fail and then let the
- 4:26Speaker 2: members who vote against it answer.
- 4:28Speaker 3: For themselves, don't cover for them.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yes, And that's that's really where I think a lot
- 4:33Speaker 2: of us are at is at this point. Put the
- 4:37Speaker 2: dang bill on the floor. Let people see who is
- 4:41Speaker 2: for secure elections and who is not, and then we
- 4:44Speaker 2: the people need to go and hold these folks accountable.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I am very much in the place of Washington.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Is not going to save us, and I'm using, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 2: the Royal we if they're not going to save we
- 4:58Speaker 2: as the American people, it's gonna the American people who
- 5:01Speaker 2: save ourselves. And that only happens if we're willing to
- 5:05Speaker 2: hold people accountable. But by not putting that bill on
- 5:08Speaker 2: the floor.
- 5:09Speaker 3: What we are saying is, yeah, it's not going to happen.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So it's just a waste of time. And I've told
- 5:15Speaker 3: this of soon. I said, respectfully, it is the most
- 5:19Speaker 3: important thing that we could.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Be doing in securing these elections, because to your point,
- 5:23Speaker 2: if people don't feel like their ballot is being tasked
- 5:28Speaker 2: or it's being canceled out by somebody who shouldn't be voting,
- 5:32Speaker 2: then it's.
- 5:32Speaker 3: All downhill from here.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So that is, honestly, it's very simple.
- 5:37Speaker 3: That is the battle that we're facing. Is you have
- 5:40Speaker 3: people in the.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Republican Party on the Senate side who feel that it
- 5:43Speaker 2: is a waste of time, and then you have Democrats
- 5:46Speaker 2: who say, oh, well, it's already illegal for citizens to vote, and.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I say, well, you know, you've got nineteen states that
- 5:52Speaker 3: issue driver's licenses to non citizens, and fifteen of them
- 5:56Speaker 3: you automatically get registered to vote.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And we've seen case after case after case after case
- 6:02Speaker 2: where you have non citizens voting. And so if you
- 6:05Speaker 2: don't think it's a problem, then you should have no
- 6:07Speaker 2: problem voting for it, just to be extra sure. But
- 6:09Speaker 2: if you're like me and you recognize the problems that
- 6:11Speaker 2: are out there, then dang it, you should be plamoring
- 6:14Speaker 2: for this. And so that we've.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Been calling on them for it, I know some of.
- 6:18Speaker 2: My colleagues have called for a couple of different ways
- 6:20Speaker 2: to attach it to other packages. I'm a little bit
- 6:24Speaker 2: dodgy on that one because I have for years called
- 6:28Speaker 2: for single issue bills. Yes, and I think once you
- 6:30Speaker 2: start Christmas treeing these must pass bills, it gets into
- 6:35Speaker 2: an area where it's just hypocritical.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Joining US US Representative Kat Camick from Florida's third district congresswoman,
- 6:46Speaker 1: does the Senate Majority leader have to go ahead and
- 6:51Speaker 1: nuke the filibuster and get this done whatever it takes.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You know, I for the longest time as somebody who
- 6:58Speaker 2: wants to real protect the foundation of our system that
- 7:05Speaker 2: gives us the republic right, not a democracy, because I
- 7:09Speaker 2: think people call us a democracy that not understanding we
- 7:13Speaker 2: have a republic. I have always been a little bit
- 7:17Speaker 2: dodgy again by using that word a lot this morning,
- 7:20Speaker 2: it seems on you know, saying we need to blow
- 7:22Speaker 2: up the filibuster. Let's be honest, the minute that the
- 7:25Speaker 2: Democrats get empowered, they're going to do it. And so
- 7:28Speaker 2: I see this as a moment in time where I
- 7:30Speaker 2: am increasingly seeing where if we don't, they will, and
- 7:37Speaker 2: we have to get the things done that we campaigned on,
- 7:42Speaker 2: not just in the last election, but things that we
- 7:45Speaker 2: told the American people for decades that we were going
- 7:47Speaker 2: to do, meaning we're going to address the debt, we're
- 7:50Speaker 2: going to make sure that we are on a path
- 7:53Speaker 2: that is not garnishing the wages of our kids and
- 7:55Speaker 2: our grandkids. That we're going to actually do the economic reforms.
- 7:59Speaker 2: We're going to do, the regulatory reform, the permitting reform,
- 8:03Speaker 2: We're gonna do all these things to make life affordable.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And instead we're playing this footsy game of well, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 2: maybe we shouldn't and da da, And I'm like, you
- 8:14Speaker 2: know what, at this point, if the Democrats get in,
- 8:18Speaker 2: what they will do. They will abolish the filibuster and
- 8:20Speaker 2: on day one they will make DC and Puerto Rico estate.
- 8:23Speaker 2: They will pack the court, they they will do everything
- 8:27Speaker 2: they can to grow the size and scope of government
- 8:30Speaker 2: so that people are forever dependent on it. And so
- 8:33Speaker 2: to me, that's just wholly unacceptable.
- 8:35Speaker 3: So I think it's time we take the gloves off.
- 8:38Speaker 2: We need to We just need to get things done.
- 8:40Speaker 2: And I'm to the point where people have just been
- 8:44Speaker 2: you know, I was going to use the term but
- 8:46Speaker 2: it probably would get bleeped out on radio.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Does it start with chicken?
- 8:53Speaker 2: You know, yeah, yeah, there'd be a little chicken crack
- 8:57Speaker 2: about it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Twenty one minutes past the hour, wrangling a baby, helping
- 9:12Speaker 1: run our country. US congress Woman Cat Camick with us,
- 9:15Speaker 1: what does success look like to you in Iran?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Oh, success would be not a single boot on the ground,
- 9:27Speaker 2: finally getting some certainty, imustraight of hermoof. I do believe
- 9:33Speaker 2: in nation building. Clearly baby Oie.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Doesn't either, as you hear her in the background. I think,
- 9:43Speaker 3: I think.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Honestly, we're getting we're getting dangerously close to the time
- 9:48Speaker 2: when Congress will need to engage if they if the
- 9:51Speaker 2: administration wants a prolonged conflict there, which to your point,
- 9:55Speaker 2: I agree it is not. Award is a conflict, and
- 9:57Speaker 2: the president has the authority constitutionally to what he's doing
- 10:01Speaker 2: for a limited period of time. But we're getting to
- 10:04Speaker 2: a place where it has to remain very laser focused
- 10:08Speaker 2: on the mission. And again coming from someone who I
- 10:13Speaker 2: have family that served in Iraq and Afghanistan was very,
- 10:17Speaker 2: very horribly injured by the roadside bombs that were funded
- 10:23Speaker 2: and designed by the Iranian government. They're the largest state
- 10:26Speaker 2: sponsor of terror in the world, and there had been
- 10:29Speaker 2: a reckoning coming for a long time. I don't think
- 10:31Speaker 2: anyone can dispute that. That being said, we have learned
- 10:35Speaker 2: a lot of lessons in the Middle East, and I
- 10:37Speaker 2: don't think anyone is interested in again nation building, and
- 10:42Speaker 2: so I think that success would be not a single
- 10:45Speaker 2: boot on the ground again, getting the straight up hermuth,
- 10:48Speaker 2: not just open, but that certainty that we have we
- 10:52Speaker 2: have passage for our allies and for ourselves, and getting
- 10:57Speaker 2: some stability there, which that's going to require the Iranian
- 11:00Speaker 2: people to take that lead, not the American people.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Let me draw this historical parallel and get your thoughts,
- 11:08Speaker 1: because I don't disagree with what you're saying. I think
- 11:12Speaker 1: I have a different view on how the Iranian people
- 11:15Speaker 1: get there, because I remember in my lesson in American
- 11:20Speaker 1: history that the birth of this nation had to come
- 11:23Speaker 1: with the help of France. If we didn't have France,
- 11:26Speaker 1: we never would have had the sufficient armaments and support
- 11:31Speaker 1: to get it done. At some point, does there need
- 11:34Speaker 1: to be a coalition of forces, Let's say that creates
- 11:38Speaker 1: space on the ground in Iran to allow the Iranian
- 11:41Speaker 1: people to have a chance because as of now, they
- 11:44Speaker 1: don't have a chance because they're not armed well.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And we've seen where arming where arming individuals in foreign
- 11:51Speaker 2: countries has not worked out so well in the end.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I mean, look at Afghanistan, for Pete's sakes, this is
- 12:00Speaker 2: where uh.
- 12:01Speaker 3: You know, like the u N.
- 12:02Speaker 2: You would think that the UN would serve.
- 12:04Speaker 3: A useful purpose, But here we are. The u N.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Has has put China and Iran on the Human Rights Council,
- 12:13Speaker 2: you know, so their credibility is pretty much shot. And
- 12:19Speaker 2: and and again, I mean I think that there's just
- 12:21Speaker 2: really not an appetite amongst the American people to do
- 12:24Speaker 2: this alone.
- 12:24Speaker 3: So to your point, yes, we need allies.
- 12:26Speaker 2: We need our friends to step up because they have
- 12:28Speaker 2: just as much skin in the game in terms of
- 12:30Speaker 2: the geopolitics of uh. We're talking the minerals, the oil,
- 12:35Speaker 2: all the things that come out of Van and so yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 2: I would love to see a better coalition of of
- 12:42Speaker 2: our partners coming together. I don't know if you the
- 12:45Speaker 2: UN has the credibility to foster that, but I think
- 12:51Speaker 2: to write as a as a history buff I I
- 12:54Speaker 2: often talk about, you know, the Marquis de Lafayette and
- 12:57Speaker 2: how the French came to eight, and that was in
- 13:01Speaker 2: large part because they hated England, but because there were
- 13:04Speaker 2: also some very young, enterprising individuals. They were the encyclopedia
- 13:09Speaker 2: then back then, and you know they they in large
- 13:13Speaker 2: part are the reason that we have the constitutional republic
- 13:17Speaker 2: that we have today. And so I do think that
- 13:21Speaker 2: there's going to have to be assistance, but I'm not
- 13:24Speaker 2: quite sure what that looks like in twenty twenty six
- 13:28Speaker 2: with our allies pretty wishy washy. I mean, you saw
- 13:32Speaker 2: that they wouldn't even come help us in the straight
- 13:34Speaker 2: up our news, of which they are entirely dependent on
- 13:37Speaker 2: for their energy sources.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Well, it's going to be interesting to see how the
- 13:41Speaker 1: nations that really benefit from what's going through that straight
- 13:45Speaker 1: what they decide to do. Kat I know a fussy
- 13:49Speaker 1: child that needs their mama when I hear it, and so.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I'm entertaining her with a makeup brush right now.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I can tell the sleight of hand is busy and underway.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I appreciate the time this morning. We'll talk again in
- 14:04Speaker 1: a few weeks.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I appreciate you have a great week and go get.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Oh man, that hurt, that hurt Okay, Kat, I'm giving
- 14:13Speaker 1: you the last word. Kat Cammick with US US Congresswan
- 14:17Speaker 1: Florida's third congressional district, proud mam of a baby Aggie,
- 14:21Speaker 1: proud wife to husband Matt, and I'm proud to have
- 14:26Speaker 1: her as a guest on the Morning Show with Preston
- 14:28Speaker 1: Scott
