- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to The Favorites the Super Contest addition that means
- 0:24Speaker 1: it's Friday. I am Chad Mollman of the Action Network
- 0:27Speaker 1: joining me. My beautiful baby, My beautiful, beautiful baby, black
- 0:33Speaker 1: Jack Fletcher. What's happening today we have It's good to
- 0:37Speaker 1: see you in person again, Pink Champagne. We are celebrating
- 0:42Speaker 1: the fact that we are reunited and it feels so good.
- 0:48Speaker 1: There's a lot of singing on this show. You brought
- 0:51Speaker 1: me a kish ham and cheese quiche, which I'm loving.
- 0:55Speaker 1: As you know, or if you don't know, this is
- 0:59Speaker 1: the Friday Super Contest edition of The Favorites podcast. We
- 1:02Speaker 1: go through any every NFL game and we have to
- 1:04Speaker 1: agree on five games against the spread that we're going
- 1:07Speaker 1: to submit for the Westgate Super Contest so we can
- 1:11Speaker 1: win one point four million dollars In Blackjack. We have
- 1:15Speaker 1: been destroying it lately, and destroying it like in a
- 1:20Speaker 1: good way, like moving up the charts, getting closer to
- 1:23Speaker 1: the money. I don't know where we are. I just
- 1:25Speaker 1: know our record is good. Yeah, we're starting to sniff
- 1:28Speaker 1: the money, sniff the money because we had a bad start. Listen,
- 1:33Speaker 1: this is a massive show, a massive show. It's almost
- 1:37Speaker 1: like we're moving into variety show territory. That's where we
- 1:42Speaker 1: need to be, you know, because later on today we
- 1:44Speaker 1: have a at the end of the show, our very
- 1:46Speaker 1: first guest, our very first interview on the Favorites podcast.
- 1:50Speaker 1: This person is going to be nominated for an OSCAR
- 1:53Speaker 1: this year, There's no doubt about it. And it is
- 1:55Speaker 1: the person, uh for the movie what what that is?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Those are the champagne bubbles, the fizzling you're throwing me
- 2:03Speaker 1: off here. This person is going to be nominated for
- 2:05Speaker 1: the movie that you and I are dying to see together.
- 2:09Speaker 1: A star is born. He happens to be and I'm
- 2:11Speaker 1: not naming him yet. He happens to be. There's a
- 2:13Speaker 1: big review at the end. He happens to be an
- 2:15Speaker 1: avid listener of the podcast. He sent in props. He
- 2:18Speaker 1: sent in props. He knows we're talking about like how
- 2:20Speaker 1: many times I'm going to cry, so he sent in
- 2:23Speaker 1: props and how many times we'll cry when we'll cry, etcetera.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But and we're super excited we did the interview. He
- 2:29Speaker 1: was hilariously funny, such a good guy. Black Jack hit
- 2:31Speaker 1: him up for like his next big move about a
- 2:34Speaker 1: thousand times. It was black Jack is going to be
- 2:35Speaker 1: writing the next great American screenplay. So any ideas you
- 2:39Speaker 1: may have forward this way, yeah, because then he'll give
- 2:42Speaker 1: you credit. Black Jack and I are going to see
- 2:45Speaker 1: the movie on November six. Okay, this is Friday. We're
- 2:48Speaker 1: going to see it on Tuesday, November six. We're gonna
- 2:50Speaker 1: have to go to some theater in Brooklyn because that's
- 2:51Speaker 1: the only place that's gonna be playing by then. We
- 2:53Speaker 1: are going to see A Star Is Born. Together. We're
- 2:55Speaker 1: gonna bring these prop sheets. Here's the thing. We are
- 2:58Speaker 1: inviting you one special guest, one special guest who listens
- 3:03Speaker 1: to the Favorites, the first listener of the Favorites to
- 3:08Speaker 1: call our Favorites hotline and leave a message that you
- 3:10Speaker 1: will join us for the movie in Brooklyn, will join us.
- 3:14Speaker 1: We will not pay for you to come to New
- 3:17Speaker 1: York if you don't live here. We will not pay
- 3:19Speaker 1: for you to get to the theater. We will buy
- 3:22Speaker 1: you a ticket. We will buy you, uh, your your candy,
- 3:27Speaker 1: popcorn of choice, a soda of choice, and I will
- 3:31Speaker 1: be smuggling liquor into the theater. So flat Jack, add
- 3:34Speaker 1: a nip to that soda. Will have. Here is the
- 3:37Speaker 1: hotline number three can I can? I read the can
- 3:42Speaker 1: to zero three four eight nine six six four seven. Again,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'll do it slower so you can write it down
- 3:51Speaker 1: two zero three four eight nine six six four seven.
- 4:00Speaker 1: The first person who calls the hotline says, I'm in
- 4:03Speaker 1: New York, or I'm gonna be in New York, or
- 4:05Speaker 1: I want to go to Brooklyn with you guys to
- 4:06Speaker 1: see a star is born. Play the prop games. See
- 4:09Speaker 1: how many times Blackjack and I cry together? How many
- 4:11Speaker 1: times Bradley Cooper cries? How many times Lady Goga cries?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Then you can see of our very special guests at
- 4:16Speaker 1: the end of the show, and if his props were right,
- 4:19Speaker 1: he's gonna win an oscar. I really hope he does.
- 4:23Speaker 1: You're gonna join us and I'll buy you a ticket
- 4:25Speaker 1: in a popcorn in Minnesota. Very generous. I'm a giver.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I gave to you. I give to you every day
- 4:36Speaker 1: you do in a big, big way. Uh listen. First up,
- 4:40Speaker 1: as I said, we're practically a variety show. Um, We've
- 4:44Speaker 1: asked you guys to review the podcast on iTunes and
- 4:46Speaker 1: the best reviews will be read by Georgina. So before
- 4:50Speaker 1: we get to the games, Letter Rip Georgie, the Friday
- 4:59Speaker 1: Show Chat and black Jack as a borderline religious experience
- 5:03Speaker 1: where I learned what picks to faith for my week
- 5:05Speaker 1: and my wife questions where she went wrong in marrying me.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Five stars. Wow religious experience and and it has someone
- 5:16Speaker 1: out there questioning their relationship choices. We've succeeded. Those are
- 5:21Speaker 1: the two things that black Jack sought to do when
- 5:25Speaker 1: he entered into this agreement to this podcast. I don't
- 5:28Speaker 1: know if I'm going to be able to sustain, and
- 5:34Speaker 1: I don't think you are either. Black Jack will be fine.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You're gonna do a spittake right now, you are gonna do.
- 5:49Speaker 1: There is gonna be Champagne coming to your nose, black Jack,
- 5:52Speaker 1: and hold his liquor. We are sponsored today by Pink Champagne,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Barefoot Pubbly pubably only the best for black Jack's boy.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Should we get to the games, we have a lot
- 6:07Speaker 1: to do. We should got a lot to do. Georgina
- 6:10Speaker 1: Atlanta at Washington Skins by one and a half. Can
- 6:13Speaker 1: I just say before we get to that, I'd really
- 6:16Speaker 1: like people to keep reviewing the podcasts on Apple Podcasts
- 6:21Speaker 1: because it helped people discover the podcast. We have a
- 6:24Speaker 1: lot of listeners. We'd like millions. We are greedy. We
- 6:27Speaker 1: are greedy fuckers, and we have egos the size we
- 6:33Speaker 1: have egos the size of this champagne bottle. We need
- 6:38Speaker 1: to rock it up the charts. We need more five
- 6:41Speaker 1: star reviews. We need to be the A Stars Board
- 6:44Speaker 1: of podcasts. We need people to hear this podcast and
- 6:48Speaker 1: cry in a good way. Yep, leave a review, make
- 6:52Speaker 1: it good five stars. Oh, he's drunk and he's only
- 6:55Speaker 1: referred to himself for the third person? Did Georgina go?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Did she read the first one? Yes? Landa at Washington
- 7:03Speaker 1: Skins by one and a half. Redskins, Let's go Yep, done, Georgias.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Detroit at Minnesota Vikings by four and a half. Vikings Stone,
- 7:14Speaker 1: Let's go yeah. Pittsburgh at Baltimore Ravens by three. All right,
- 7:25Speaker 1: First of all, let me just explain the Redskins in
- 7:27Speaker 1: the Vikings a little bit. The Redskins line is is insane.
- 7:38Speaker 1: That is inferring that the Falcons are the better team.
- 7:42Speaker 1: When you account for the home field advantage that Washington has,
- 7:45Speaker 1: the Falcons are not a better team than Washington on
- 7:49Speaker 1: any side of the ball, Right, now and the Redskins
- 7:52Speaker 1: add ha ha Clinton black Jack can't say that name
- 7:57Speaker 1: of that laugh. Um, the add him to their secondary.
- 8:01Speaker 1: There's there's no way the Atlanta Falcons are a better
- 8:06Speaker 1: team than Washington. None. Reds are cruising right now. I
- 8:10Speaker 1: think I said to Scooch the other day on the
- 8:12Speaker 1: Favorite podcast, Um he hung up. He hung a bad
- 8:15Speaker 1: line here. And I don't know if it's because of
- 8:17Speaker 1: the bye um that they're giving Atlanta a little bit
- 8:21Speaker 1: more UM credit. But right now, Atlanta, I'm looking at
- 8:25Speaker 1: the Action Network cap Atlanta is getting the money. Yeah
- 8:28Speaker 1: they are. I'm insane. It listened. The bye is great,
- 8:31Speaker 1: But is Dion Jones coming back? Is Kean or Neil
- 8:33Speaker 1: coming back? No? No? And every game you watch that
- 8:39Speaker 1: they're they're the walking wounded. I mean that team just
- 8:41Speaker 1: keeps losing guy after guy after guy. Dreadful. The Redskins
- 8:45Speaker 1: are rolling. Man. I don't know why of the bets
- 8:48Speaker 1: and money on the Falcons. That to me in the
- 8:51Speaker 1: case that like either the wise guys haven't played this
- 8:53Speaker 1: or the wise guys are waiting to see what happens.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I just don't believe you guys are coming in on
- 8:57Speaker 1: the Falcons. And you would know this even better than Blackjack.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Over the last year and a half, the supposed wise
- 9:05Speaker 1: guys have loved this Atlanta Falcons team. This is like
- 9:10Speaker 1: they're darling. They bet the Atlanta Falcons. Last year, Every
- 9:14Speaker 1: damn week it was the Falcons, the Falcons, the Falcons.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And it's been the same story this year, even with
- 9:20Speaker 1: the injuries and everything else. And it's like at some
- 9:22Speaker 1: point you have to watch what's happening on the field,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and the Falcons just don't have the manpower. I've never
- 9:29Speaker 1: been on the Falcons. I hate the Falcons. I've always
- 9:31Speaker 1: hated the Falcons. I think they're frauds. Agreed the vikings Um.
- 9:39Speaker 1: We did a story on Action Network yesterday that sort
- 9:42Speaker 1: of power rates the games based on our ratings, but
- 9:45Speaker 1: we had it at five five and a half black
- 9:49Speaker 1: black Jacks whatever black Jack works at the Action Network.
- 9:53Speaker 1: His thoughts are included. They're burping up the BuzAr Um,
- 9:58Speaker 1: so you're just getting value here, like I you know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: this was one of like four games where there was
- 10:02Speaker 1: the most Actually this game in that story on Action
- 10:06Speaker 1: network dot com or in the app download it now
- 10:08Speaker 1: free app, free app, free app um did I mention
- 10:12Speaker 1: it's free app it's free. Uh. This game had the
- 10:17Speaker 1: largest discrepancy between our rating and with the line that
- 10:19Speaker 1: was posted. This is entirely because of Adam thieland fumbling
- 10:22Speaker 1: the ball at the end of the first half. That's it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's what people are seeing. The Vikings go into a
- 10:27Speaker 1: skid after that, they get blown out. They potentially they
- 10:30Speaker 1: likely win that game. They're up sixteen. It's a different
- 10:33Speaker 1: ball game, whatever, whatever, whatever. I know you're giving me
- 10:37Speaker 1: a look, you're ready to pounce, but I'm telling you, www,
- 10:44Speaker 1: dot zip it. The point is, are we really doing
- 10:48Speaker 1: dr evil references in? The point is the Vikings are
- 10:54Speaker 1: the right side of this game, all right. We don't
- 10:59Speaker 1: like this Dealers in the Ravens and I kind of
- 11:02Speaker 1: like the Ravens in this game, but I don't. I'm
- 11:06Speaker 1: not messing with the Ravens. Not messing with the Ravens.
- 11:11Speaker 1: No Edgar Allen Poe fans here, huh No. Actually, Blackjack
- 11:15Speaker 1: did watch a little bit of The Pit and the
- 11:17Speaker 1: Pendulum last night. It was on television. Halloween. Happy Halloween. Everyone.
- 11:26Speaker 1: That's fucking gold as his black Jack shirt and his
- 11:32Speaker 1: picks in the NFL, which have been twelve two and
- 11:34Speaker 1: one over the last two weeks, and the chain hanging
- 11:37Speaker 1: all the way down, your very hairy chest, which is staring.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And this is what a man looks like. All right,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you have the body of a six year old girl,
- 11:47Speaker 1: which makes me uncomfortable being in the same room as you.
- 11:51Speaker 1: This is what a man's body looks like. I think
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm fit and I treat myself right. You're eating a
- 11:56Speaker 1: kiche at nine am. It's eggs, which are healthy. I
- 12:02Speaker 1: had an apple this morning. Next Kansas City at Cleveland
- 12:09Speaker 1: Chiefs by eight. Stay away, walk as fast as you can.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You don't know this game Kansas City. I mean, look,
- 12:19Speaker 1: everything in the world should tell you to take Kansas
- 12:21Speaker 1: City here, but you finally get the stink of Hugh
- 12:24Speaker 1: Jackson out of the building in Berea. Todd Haley is gone,
- 12:28Speaker 1: who every quarterback he's ever had has hated his existence.
- 12:33Speaker 1: You don't know. This could be a weird game where
- 12:35Speaker 1: Cleveland plays closer than they should. You stay away from
- 12:38Speaker 1: this game, run away. Isn't that weird anything? I'll say
- 12:42Speaker 1: if this line somehow Sunday morning gets the ten, I
- 12:46Speaker 1: take Cleveland at ten. Yeah, like I'm leaning towards Cleveland.
- 12:49Speaker 1: In this game, I actually feel like there's historically a
- 12:52Speaker 1: bounce in the game after you fire a coach, Like
- 12:55Speaker 1: there's oftentimes historically a bounce in the game after you
- 12:58Speaker 1: change a quarterback. Kansas City, but the Chiefs are just
- 13:02Speaker 1: too lit right now? Why did you just say too lit? Yeah?
- 13:09Speaker 1: How old are you old enough to know better? Like,
- 13:16Speaker 1: so that's a new okay? Uh? Georgina, New York Jensen
- 13:23Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins by three. Nope, Yeah, you don't know who's
- 13:30Speaker 1: playing quarterback for Miami hard Week. Could be Tannehill, could
- 13:34Speaker 1: be Oswiler. The Jets off a couple of stinkers here
- 13:38Speaker 1: in a row. This game, this game stinks. As you
- 13:43Speaker 1: like to say, this is the corner TV game. It
- 13:45Speaker 1: is the corner TV game. Scooch and I both agreed
- 13:47Speaker 1: on that in the Wednesday podcast. Um, listen, don't forget
- 13:50Speaker 1: later on in the show, we have a very special guest,
- 13:52Speaker 1: someone who's gonna win an oscar for the movie of
- 13:54Speaker 1: Stars Born. Uh it was an awkward plug. Well that
- 14:00Speaker 1: everything in my life is smooth. Next Chicago at Buffalo
- 14:05Speaker 1: Bears by ten. So here's the thing. Nathan Peter Nathan Peterman.
- 14:14Speaker 1: As you know, I have named Nathan Peterman Nathan pick six?
- 14:23Speaker 1: Was that an original thought by you? No one else
- 14:26Speaker 1: came up with that, no one else, no one else
- 14:28Speaker 1: decided that's what they should name him. Okay, okay, all right,
- 14:32Speaker 1: So yeah it is. So what are you saying. I'm saying,
- 14:37Speaker 1: even though the Bills are ten point dogs at home
- 14:40Speaker 1: and like this should be an automatic take, I can't
- 14:43Speaker 1: do because I kind of don't trust the the You
- 14:46Speaker 1: can't bet the Bills. Also, though, the problem is the Bears.
- 14:51Speaker 1: You don't know if Khalil Mack is playing. They said
- 14:53Speaker 1: his status is essentially the same as last week, so
- 14:55Speaker 1: I assume that means he's out. And Trobiski, you're a
- 15:01Speaker 1: Bears fan, what's your read on Drobisky? I think, uh,
- 15:09Speaker 1: I think there have been times this season where the
- 15:13Speaker 1: Bears have lost games because they didn't trust Mitchell Robinsky
- 15:18Speaker 1: and that was a mistake because they've needed more yards
- 15:22Speaker 1: at times when he was playing well, and because they
- 15:25Speaker 1: didn't leave the ball in his hands, they lost. And
- 15:28Speaker 1: that worries me that they're looking at the end of
- 15:30Speaker 1: the game and thinking we just got to give it
- 15:32Speaker 1: to Jordan Howard instead of letting Drabinsky throw the ball
- 15:35Speaker 1: down the field one or two more times. That's number one.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Number two. I worry a lot about his deep balls,
- 15:42Speaker 1: like he is just wild ahead. He is just that's
- 15:49Speaker 1: black Jack's juvenile. He's just wildly inaccurate on his deep balls.
- 15:57Speaker 1: So I think that's a problem because like this game today,
- 16:00Speaker 1: the NFL today is about the back shoulder pass, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: it's about the deep ball. So do you have a
- 16:08Speaker 1: lean on this game? I'd probably lean the bills. I
- 16:12Speaker 1: would leave the other way. Well, then we're going to pass. Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you can't. You can't bet Nathan Peterman. Well, that's why
- 16:18Speaker 1: I'm That's why I'm not going to bet it. And
- 16:20Speaker 1: his backup is Matt Barkley. I'm not going to bet
- 16:23Speaker 1: this game. There's nothing about it that appeals to me.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Although if we were like professionals, we wouldn't even be
- 16:28Speaker 1: having the conversation. If we were professionals, we'd be on
- 16:31Speaker 1: Cleveland Done. We'd be on no no, no, no, no
- 16:35Speaker 1: no no, you're not a professional. No no no no,
- 16:38Speaker 1: no listening to you, okay, because last week black Jack
- 16:47Speaker 1: had to sit here and listen to you say the
- 16:49Speaker 1: same crap about the Patriots laying fourteen, and you sat
- 16:54Speaker 1: here and said, oh, that's never what a professional would do.
- 16:58Speaker 1: That's ridiculous. You you have to take fourteen points, not
- 17:02Speaker 1: when the Buffalo Bills are in play. And that was
- 17:06Speaker 1: with Derrick Anderson, who is better than Nathan Peterman. Jason
- 17:11Speaker 1: Peterman is the worst quarterback on an NFL roster right now.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He might be the worst quarterback in a college roster
- 17:18Speaker 1: right now. He's awful. He might be the worst quarter
- 17:21Speaker 1: So no, I don't want to hear that it's the
- 17:24Speaker 1: sharp play to take the Bills because it's ten. Because
- 17:27Speaker 1: that's not sharp. Okay, that's sticking to a rigid system
- 17:31Speaker 1: with no flexibility. And that's not life, brother, Okay, that's
- 17:35Speaker 1: not life. Life is fluid. Okay, ten points with the
- 17:40Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills is nothing. Move on Pampa Bay at Carolina
- 17:50Speaker 1: Panthers by six. So black Jack, do you believe if
- 17:53Speaker 1: it's magic? Really do black Jack? Really? Does? Let black
- 17:59Speaker 1: Jack to you something? When Blackshack was watching that game
- 18:05Speaker 1: last week against Chad's favorite son, Andy Dalton, and Ryan
- 18:13Speaker 1: Fitzpatrick comes in that game after Jamis Winston had just
- 18:17Speaker 1: been god awful and he just takes him down the field.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Score score score, and then the two point conversion. You
- 18:25Speaker 1: want fitz magic there, it was there. It was a
- 18:29Speaker 1: little jump shovel past to stay out of trouble and
- 18:32Speaker 1: convert that play. Black Jack doesn't know how you don't
- 18:37Speaker 1: believe in it at this point. Having said that, black
- 18:40Speaker 1: Jack is also a fan of the Carolina Panthers, He's
- 18:43Speaker 1: a believer at this point in them. Black Jack lean's
- 18:47Speaker 1: Tampa in this at six Millman does not want to
- 18:50Speaker 1: have any piece of this game. Fair enough, black Jack
- 18:55Speaker 1: doesn't love it. Charges at atle Seahawks by two. This
- 19:02Speaker 1: is a really hard game. This is a really really
- 19:06Speaker 1: hard agree. Agreed. We talk about flexibility, right. I love
- 19:14Speaker 1: the Chargers in this game. Black do love them, and
- 19:18Speaker 1: I can't figure out but I also love short home favorites.
- 19:23Speaker 1: You know what? The thing is that this game is
- 19:24Speaker 1: that Blackjack was not a huge believer in the Chargers
- 19:29Speaker 1: when the season started because they tend to be frauds.
- 19:32Speaker 1: You're in and you're out. Uh, black Jack doesn't think
- 19:38Speaker 1: so could come. But um, if you look at the
- 19:42Speaker 1: charges to losses, I mean they're the chiefs in the rams.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I mean you're you're talking about arguably two of the
- 19:49Speaker 1: top three or four teams in the NFL. The Charges
- 19:53Speaker 1: have played really, really well. Now Seattle is a tough
- 19:56Speaker 1: place to play, and I I get what you're uh,
- 20:01Speaker 1: compatriot Bob Scucci is saying when he says that this
- 20:04Speaker 1: is a game that the Seahawks pull out, because it
- 20:06Speaker 1: generally is. But there's just such a gap in talent
- 20:12Speaker 1: between these two teams at this point that black Jack
- 20:16Speaker 1: has a really hard time not taking the Chargers in
- 20:18Speaker 1: this game. Chad does too, and I think we should
- 20:24Speaker 1: do it. Philip Rivers is just having a great year. YEP.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I do worry about off the buy. I worry about
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Seahawks defense, like they they have not missed a
- 20:36Speaker 1: beat without Earl Thomas or Michael Kendricks, and I thought,
- 20:40Speaker 1: you know, they were Um. They had a tough game
- 20:43Speaker 1: against the Rams, but everyone has a tough game against
- 20:45Speaker 1: the Rams. First game after Earl Thomas, then they destroyed
- 20:48Speaker 1: the Raid. To me, this past weekend was the game
- 20:54Speaker 1: where I felt like the Chickens would come home to
- 20:58Speaker 1: roost because they were without Earl Thomas. Now sort of
- 21:02Speaker 1: after thereby UM against a good team and they played
- 21:07Speaker 1: great and their running game was great and their offensive
- 21:10Speaker 1: line played okay, But do we really know that Detroit's
- 21:14Speaker 1: a good team? Detroit? Black Jack at this point looks
- 21:21Speaker 1: at the Chargers off of a bye week, with Melvin
- 21:24Speaker 1: Gordon now healthier than he's been since the beginning of
- 21:27Speaker 1: the questionable this week. Yeah, but he's gonna play and
- 21:30Speaker 1: he should be fresher than he's been off of bye
- 21:34Speaker 1: You know, two points short spread? Black Jack says, l A,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Chad joined you are you saying uh yes to l
- 21:43Speaker 1: A just because you now want to move there and
- 21:46Speaker 1: and be Hollywood? Um? No, If if black Jack wanted
- 21:50Speaker 1: to move to l A, he already would have because
- 21:53Speaker 1: he is Hollywood personified. But he chooses to remain in
- 21:57Speaker 1: the grit and the grind of New York City just
- 22:00Speaker 1: to be close to you. Let's be real, black Jack
- 22:02Speaker 1: can't get the funk off Long Island. Well, why would
- 22:06Speaker 1: Blackjack get off Long Island just to move out to
- 22:08Speaker 1: l A. Well, black Jack's not living in New York City,
- 22:11Speaker 1: Let's just be clear about that. Neither is Chad. Chad's
- 22:15Speaker 1: living up on a high granted, Connecticut. In between Mike
- 22:18Speaker 1: Greenberg and Vince McMahon Chad doesn't claim to live in
- 22:21Speaker 1: New York City. Neither does Blackjack. You just said you
- 22:25Speaker 1: prefer the grit and the grime of New York City.
- 22:27Speaker 1: This is where Blackjack works, does Is he not in
- 22:31Speaker 1: your office more than you working? Is a loose term, Georgina,
- 22:37Speaker 1: you would know about that. Houston at Denver, Denver by one.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I gotta take all right, let's have it. I love
- 22:47Speaker 1: the Texans overall. I love the Texans overall. You know
- 22:53Speaker 1: that I have a Texans to win the super Bowl ticket,
- 22:56Speaker 1: which I told you was idiotic. You know that I've
- 22:58Speaker 1: been loving seeing what they've been doing the last few weeks.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I like Denver in this game. That's also idiotic. They
- 23:09Speaker 1: traded away to Marius Thomas to the Houston Texans going
- 23:12Speaker 1: to play again, So they traded away a player who
- 23:17Speaker 1: was older and not producing. I wrote in my Millman's
- 23:20Speaker 1: Red Zone Diaries that I you watched Family Life with Chad.
- 23:27Speaker 1: You got a problem. Then a lot of people gamble
- 23:30Speaker 1: and have families. Yeah, you and Mike Greenberg our guests.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Later today, you're gonna make fun of him too. He's
- 23:41Speaker 1: gonna have an Oscar on the shelf. You have an
- 23:44Speaker 1: ESPN the magazine cover with you and Greeny. Greeny is
- 23:48Speaker 1: not even on there. What's the deal with you and him?
- 23:52Speaker 1: I don't even know him? What do you mean you
- 23:54Speaker 1: don't know him? You worked at the same company for
- 23:56Speaker 1: like a decade. There's seven thousand people. You're like the
- 23:59Speaker 1: idea to go person to him. You both have wives
- 24:02Speaker 1: named Stacy. Yeah, you know, I think his wife is
- 24:06Speaker 1: from my hometown. You both have wives that Wait, isn't
- 24:11Speaker 1: he from Chicago to No, he's from New York where
- 24:15Speaker 1: he went. Oh he went to Northwestern? Right, I forgot
- 24:18Speaker 1: better school? Um than what? Well? I mean everyone knows
- 24:23Speaker 1: that Indiana is Northwestern Safety School. That's true. So Greeny
- 24:30Speaker 1: did go to Northwestern got his start in the in
- 24:33Speaker 1: the media business. In Chicago where you're from. You basically
- 24:37Speaker 1: are twins. You dress identical to one another, you have
- 24:42Speaker 1: the same body type A thousand percent. Where where are
- 24:48Speaker 1: you not seeing the connection? Let's both live in Granted,
- 24:51Speaker 1: if I were making six million year, you think I'd
- 24:53Speaker 1: be hoofing it with you drinking cheap bubbly and eating
- 24:57Speaker 1: cold kiche. Black Shack doesn't know. Maybe your report to
- 25:00Speaker 1: decision maker. I mean, there's no way to figure it out.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Speaking of poor decisions, going with Houston in this case
- 25:07Speaker 1: would be a bad idea, Jeans, my friend, Why Houston
- 25:12Speaker 1: is so overrated in this game? Look at who they've beaten.
- 25:16Speaker 1: They've beat in Miami. But look who Denver is losing too.
- 25:21Speaker 1: More importantly, they're losing to the hardest, to the best
- 25:25Speaker 1: teams in the NFL right now, the Jets. The Jets
- 25:28Speaker 1: are the one bad game, the one they got killed.
- 25:32Speaker 1: We're doing the Broncos. No, we're not. Well, come up
- 25:34Speaker 1: with something better until you come. We're not doing the
- 25:36Speaker 1: Broncos at best. It's a maybe. Well, we only got
- 25:39Speaker 1: a couple of games left. We're not doing it well.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Right now, it's in there. Black Jack's the one who
- 25:45Speaker 1: submits these picks. Black Jack doesn't Jacks telling you it's
- 25:48Speaker 1: not going in there. Black Jack is gonna have to
- 25:50Speaker 1: put it in there, because right now we don't have
- 25:51Speaker 1: anything else. How many do we have? Four? No, we
- 25:55Speaker 1: have three? Right? What do we have? We have the
- 25:58Speaker 1: Los Angeles Chargers plus two against the Seahawks. We have
- 26:04Speaker 1: the Minnesota Vikings minus four and a half against the Lions,
- 26:08Speaker 1: the Washington Redskins minus one and a half against the
- 26:10Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons. Tell me why you don't like Denver Houston.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Tell me why you tell me? Are you saying to
- 26:19Speaker 1: me right now you'd rather have Houston in this game
- 26:22Speaker 1: than Denver? Absolutely? I would. You would put put Houston
- 26:26Speaker 1: in as the pick instead of Houston is rolling right now.
- 26:30Speaker 1: And as our Action Network colleague Chris Raybon has pointed
- 26:33Speaker 1: out time and time again, Chris Raybon is really good.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Vance Joseph might be the worst head coach in the NFL.
- 26:42Speaker 1: The Broncos are simply overmatched. And the trade of Damarius Thomas,
- 26:46Speaker 1: while maybe it's not a huge on the field impact
- 26:50Speaker 1: in terms of loss of his production, now you're asking
- 26:53Speaker 1: a rookie in Courtland Sutton to step up in the
- 26:56Speaker 1: very first week after this trade and take those are options. Also,
- 27:01Speaker 1: it sends a signal to your team, does it not?
- 27:04Speaker 1: Does it not send a signal to that team that
- 27:06Speaker 1: we are kind of waving the white flag here? Dude.
- 27:08Speaker 1: They traded Demarrius Thomas. They didn't trade DeAndre Hopkins. He's
- 27:12Speaker 1: their number one. He's their number one. What does that
- 27:15Speaker 1: tell you? He's their number one? You're making Demarrius Thomas
- 27:19Speaker 1: out to be Terrell Prior. He's still a quality wide receiver.
- 27:24Speaker 1: He's not the he is not a number one receiver anymore.
- 27:27Speaker 1: In Houston. He's number two, maybe number three. No, he's
- 27:32Speaker 1: number two. We'll see who's number three. I don't know
- 27:34Speaker 1: who else. I don't know. Can you name me another
- 27:36Speaker 1: wine out on that rock? So I didn't think, So
- 27:39Speaker 1: let's move on. So Angelie's Rams at New Orleans Saints
- 27:44Speaker 1: by one and a half. Rams Saints says to the
- 27:50Speaker 1: best team in the NFC, you're gonna win this game
- 27:53Speaker 1: out right, and everyone knows how big of a fan
- 27:56Speaker 1: Blackjack is of the Saints. Black Jack has a super
- 27:59Speaker 1: Bowl future on the Saints, which was a smart bet
- 28:02Speaker 1: by black Jacket one. Well, Chad has a super Bowl
- 28:06Speaker 1: future on the Saints. Chad's also got eight others. However,
- 28:12Speaker 1: these teams offensively are very very close. Okay, I will
- 28:17Speaker 1: give the Saints that they are close to the Rams offensively.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I would still give a slight edge to Los Angeles
- 28:23Speaker 1: on offense, but on defense is where the difference is.
- 28:26Speaker 1: The Rams are a markedly better defense. They are number
- 28:29Speaker 1: one in the league in pass rush rate. They have
- 28:33Speaker 1: added now Dante Fowler from the Jaguars to boost that
- 28:37Speaker 1: even further. The Saints defense simply is not on par
- 28:42Speaker 1: with the Rams defense, which means all the Rams have
- 28:46Speaker 1: to do is get a couple of stops during this game,
- 28:48Speaker 1: because I think their offense goes up and down the field.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I'm taking the Rams in the point in half. What
- 28:54Speaker 1: does it say, you know, if everyone's getting so excited
- 28:56Speaker 1: about Dante Fowler, I'm not. It's an addition. But to
- 29:00Speaker 1: help you, what does it say to you? He's the
- 29:02Speaker 1: third overall pick like three years ago and they're already
- 29:06Speaker 1: giving up on it. What it says to what it
- 29:07Speaker 1: says to black Jack is something very simple. The Jaguars
- 29:11Speaker 1: decided they weren't going to pay him long term, and
- 29:14Speaker 1: a lot of that has to do with off the
- 29:16Speaker 1: field issues, because Dante Fowler has had a lot of
- 29:18Speaker 1: off the field issues. But that's not what we're here
- 29:21Speaker 1: to debate. He's certainly an addition to that Rams defense.
- 29:25Speaker 1: It makes them deeper, if nothing else. So we're gonna
- 29:29Speaker 1: be on the Saints that wouldn't have No, we're not well, brother,
- 29:35Speaker 1: black Jack is gonna have to come to some kind
- 29:37Speaker 1: of consensus, and what we're gonna do because right now.
- 29:40Speaker 1: We've got three games, we have one more left. Let's
- 29:44Speaker 1: have it. We have two more, two more, Let's do him.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Green Bay at New England Patriots by six. I've got
- 29:53Speaker 1: to take on this. Be shocked to hear what it is.
- 30:00Speaker 1: M hmm. Blackjack likes the Packers here. You don't give
- 30:06Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers that many points, plain and simple. You just
- 30:09Speaker 1: don't do it. You You have to look at this
- 30:12Speaker 1: game through the lens of number one. The Packers are
- 30:17Speaker 1: desperate team right now with the loss to l A.
- 30:21Speaker 1: The Packers need to get a win in the worst
- 30:23Speaker 1: way and outright win. This is only the second time
- 30:26Speaker 1: you've seen Rogers and Brady on the field together. You
- 30:30Speaker 1: would think that would add a little bit of fire
- 30:33Speaker 1: to Aaron Rodgers more than it would to Tom Brady.
- 30:35Speaker 1: But even if you like the Patriots here, you're still
- 30:39Speaker 1: getting a six point cushion with the Packers. What are
- 30:43Speaker 1: the odds that New England is going to go out
- 30:45Speaker 1: there and beat this team by a touchdown plus? With
- 30:49Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers on the other side, The Rams are, in
- 30:53Speaker 1: Blackjack's estimation, the most complete team in the NFL, and
- 30:58Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers went to hod to toe with them and
- 31:01Speaker 1: had a chance to win that game. Should have had
- 31:03Speaker 1: a chance to win that game if not for time
- 31:04Speaker 1: Montgomery and may well have done it. Now you have
- 31:08Speaker 1: a Patriots team, which black Jack doesn't see how anyone
- 31:12Speaker 1: could argue is a notch down from the Rams, and
- 31:16Speaker 1: you're still going to give Aaron Rodgers six points. I'm
- 31:19Speaker 1: taking Rogers and six. Let's put a pin in that
- 31:21Speaker 1: for a second. Sure, I don't disagree with you, but
- 31:26Speaker 1: I want to get to the next game and see
- 31:28Speaker 1: if that informs any of our decision making. For our
- 31:31Speaker 1: final pick. We have to make two picks, okay, but
- 31:36Speaker 1: I'm fairly certain we're gonna agree on this pick. This
- 31:38Speaker 1: this next pick, Tennessee at Dallas Cowboys by six and
- 31:42Speaker 1: a half Titans. It's like a new brainer. And everyone
- 31:46Speaker 1: knows how black Jack feels about the Tennessee Titans. Hates
- 31:50Speaker 1: them with the fire of a thousand sons. Sons having
- 31:55Speaker 1: said that the Dallas Cowboys should not be six point favorites,
- 31:57Speaker 1: black Jack is preaching the jais third. The Titans are
- 32:01Speaker 1: off of bye, they're af one point loss to this
- 32:07Speaker 1: to the charges, absolutely Tennis ridiculous. So Titans and Packers
- 32:16Speaker 1: were good. There's five hot it. Let's get to Bradley
- 32:22Speaker 1: Cooper's interview. Patriots, Packers, Rams, Saints, Texans and Brankos. We
- 32:35Speaker 1: do not have the Rams and the Saints. It's not
- 32:38Speaker 1: going We're not going to agree on that. Listen. I
- 32:41Speaker 1: love the Saints. I love the Saints, but black Jack
- 32:44Speaker 1: can't give them to you. I think that's a massive mistake.
- 32:56Speaker 1: This is it, my friend. This is homefield advantage throughout
- 32:59Speaker 1: the FC playoffs. You think in the Superdome in New Orleans,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you don't want to bet on Drew Brees to win
- 33:11Speaker 1: the fucking game. Drew Brees, Drew Brees, who's gonna go
- 33:17Speaker 1: down as one of the four greatest quarterbacks? Who he's
- 33:19Speaker 1: making Blackjack's Tom Brady argument that he's made for the
- 33:22Speaker 1: last time. You're going to bet against Drew Brees, against
- 33:26Speaker 1: the defense that is getting better and better, against a
- 33:29Speaker 1: defense that completely shut down, an offense that is nearly
- 33:33Speaker 1: on par with the Rams, that went toe to toe
- 33:35Speaker 1: with the Rams. What are our choices? What are our choices?
- 33:38Speaker 1: For the fifth game? All right, let's say I take
- 33:41Speaker 1: Denver and Houston out of it. It's the Saints. The
- 33:44Speaker 1: Saints by one and a half to win the game,
- 33:48Speaker 1: or the Patriots or the Packers plus six. You honestly
- 33:51Speaker 1: like the Saints laying a point in a half against
- 33:57Speaker 1: the most complete team in the NFL better than Aaron
- 34:00Speaker 1: Rodgers getting six points. That's what you're telling me. You
- 34:05Speaker 1: know what, black Jack is going to leave this up
- 34:07Speaker 1: to you. This is this is the black Jack is
- 34:11Speaker 1: going to leave this up to you, and he's going
- 34:14Speaker 1: to make the statement right here on these air waves
- 34:16Speaker 1: for the millions of listeners, that the right choice here
- 34:20Speaker 1: is the Packers. The Packers are the correct pick here.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers will cover this number. If even if you
- 34:29Speaker 1: like the Saints, you have to admit it's a fifty
- 34:31Speaker 1: fifty proposition here. Aaron Rodgers catching six points in a
- 34:36Speaker 1: big game against the Patriots is probably better than fifty.
- 34:40Speaker 1: But I'm going to leave this up to you. You
- 34:42Speaker 1: make our fifth pick the Saints. Okay, there it is.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Here we go. We like the Washington Redskins minus one
- 34:53Speaker 1: and a half against the Atlanta Falcons. We like the
- 34:56Speaker 1: Minnesota Vikings minus four and a half against the Detroit Lions.
- 34:59Speaker 1: We like the Los Angeles Chargers plus two. We get
- 35:03Speaker 1: to Seattle Seahawks. We like the New Orleans Saints to
- 35:07Speaker 1: minus one and a half against the Los Angeles Rams,
- 35:10Speaker 1: and we like the Tennessee Titans plus six and a
- 35:14Speaker 1: half against the Dallas Cowboys. Listen, you gotta stick around
- 35:19Speaker 1: because we have such a great guest who was freaking hilarious. Uh,
- 35:23Speaker 1: and you're gonna love it. Plus, if you listen to
- 35:26Speaker 1: that part of it, you will of course get to
- 35:27Speaker 1: join Blackjack and I to go see A Star is
- 35:30Speaker 1: Born on November six. You have to call our Favorites
- 35:35Speaker 1: hotline at two zero three eight nine six seven. The
- 35:40Speaker 1: first voicemail in can join us. We're not paying for anything.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Maybe the ticket, maybe a soda, maybe some popcorn, but
- 35:48Speaker 1: we're not paying for you to get there. We're seeing
- 35:50Speaker 1: in Brooklyn. That's the only place it's gonna be playing.
- 35:52Speaker 1: We're gonna be seeing a Stars Born. We're gonna check
- 35:54Speaker 1: how much we cry. We're gonna bring some prop sheets.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Our next guest is gonna win an oscar for the movie.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Stick around, all right, guys, are very first guest on
- 36:07Speaker 1: the Favorite podcast, the very first guest we've ever had
- 36:11Speaker 1: as a call an interview. He may well, Blackjack, he
- 36:14Speaker 1: may well be nominated for an OSCAR this year. If
- 36:18Speaker 1: he's not, they should cancel the awards he will be nominated.
- 36:22Speaker 1: He will likely be nominated for an OSCAR this year
- 36:25Speaker 1: for the work he did on the best movie I've
- 36:27Speaker 1: Never seen, but one that Blackjack and I have been
- 36:31Speaker 1: talking about all during the podcast, the one we're making
- 36:34Speaker 1: props for and how often I'm gonna cry. We're gonna
- 36:36Speaker 1: go see it together. And by the way, we're gonna
- 36:39Speaker 1: open it up to one lucky podcast listener who's gonna
- 36:42Speaker 1: get to join us, and we're gonna tell you how
- 36:44Speaker 1: you can do that. One listener will join us. We're
- 36:47Speaker 1: not paying for anything, like you gotta be in New York.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Maybe we'll pay for the We'll pay for the popcorn
- 36:53Speaker 1: and then soda. Uh listen. We have been talking about
- 36:56Speaker 1: A Star is Born um for weeks, and we've talked
- 37:00Speaker 1: about the crying props and how often I will cry,
- 37:02Speaker 1: how often Blackjack's gonna cry, Halfen will cry together, how
- 37:05Speaker 1: often Bradley Cooper cries, how often Lady Gaga cries. The
- 37:09Speaker 1: the level of tears could fill an ocean right so um.
- 37:14Speaker 1: The other day, we get an email into our general
- 37:19Speaker 1: inbox from a guy named Will Fetters, and I want
- 37:25Speaker 1: to read with the subject line the subject lines the best. Uh,
- 37:29Speaker 1: well you okay with me reading this? Will's on the phone.
- 37:33Speaker 1: I'm going to give him the proper injection. But ladies
- 37:35Speaker 1: and gentlemen, Will Fetters is the co writer of the
- 37:39Speaker 1: screenplay A Star is Born with Bradley Cooper. Will, how
- 37:43Speaker 1: are you? I'm doing very well. Uh, you're in l A.
- 37:47Speaker 1: You're we're you're calling us. We're calling you very early
- 37:50Speaker 1: in the morning in l A. But you have three
- 37:51Speaker 1: very young kids, so it's not an inappropriate time. This
- 37:54Speaker 1: is the email, and it's to our regular Like, dude,
- 37:57Speaker 1: you are a big time Hollywood screenwriter who's written a
- 38:00Speaker 1: bunch of movies, and like, this is the email. Hi,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I wrote A Star Was Born with Bradley Cooper. And
- 38:06Speaker 1: then the best part about it isn't like isn't like
- 38:10Speaker 1: how amazing you could be? Or like how awesome the
- 38:12Speaker 1: movie is? It is um I wanted to offer my
- 38:16Speaker 1: Star was Born prop handicaps as I'm a loyal listener
- 38:19Speaker 1: to all three Favorites podcasts and a childhood dream of
- 38:25Speaker 1: mine was to one day do something worthy of being
- 38:27Speaker 1: gambled on you've succeeded. Well, that's it. You know, everybody
- 38:32Speaker 1: started about I just wanted to be handicapped. I don't
- 38:34Speaker 1: care if I actually get nominated. I just want I
- 38:36Speaker 1: want scoops to make a line. That's all I want
- 38:38Speaker 1: to say. Here's what's cool, is like at some point,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, uh, one are the Oscars in February. Yes,
- 38:47Speaker 1: sometime in February, black Jack is going to be attending
- 38:50Speaker 1: this year. Uh something really would be a crime if
- 38:53Speaker 1: black Jack didn't attend the Oscar. Well, I think I
- 38:56Speaker 1: think you actually have to forget your wife. If you're nominated,
- 38:59Speaker 1: just bring black I'll make sure in her spot and
- 39:04Speaker 1: if I get to her, I get to her. Um listen,
- 39:07Speaker 1: this is fantastic you to send these in. We think
- 39:09Speaker 1: it's awesome. I will tell you that. Um listen, this
- 39:12Speaker 1: is the air of cranks, the era of cranks and
- 39:15Speaker 1: fake news. So you sent this in and I immediately
- 39:18Speaker 1: thought this guys just sucking with us, That's what I thought.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I just didn't believe, right, So I immediately went to
- 39:24Speaker 1: That's why I started from them of the website. There
- 39:27Speaker 1: have been a lot of work to do that I know, right,
- 39:31Speaker 1: and so but I did. I did go to the website,
- 39:33Speaker 1: which is amazing and people should go check it out. Um,
- 39:36Speaker 1: say the name of your website out of here, because
- 39:38Speaker 1: I can't look it up fast enough. I know it's
- 39:39Speaker 1: like unfettered something. It's unfetter. It's unfreed worldwide, which is
- 39:43Speaker 1: a Step Brothers reference. And if you didn't get that immediately,
- 39:47Speaker 1: that nah. You know I did not get watching Step
- 39:51Speaker 1: Brothers too many times? Did you get you didn't get
- 39:54Speaker 1: the reference to prestige worldwide. I didn't get it, of
- 39:57Speaker 1: course he did. The doesn't have to become about my
- 40:02Speaker 1: you know, I don't go see a stars more. Just
- 40:04Speaker 1: make Chad watch Step Brothers. Chad. Chad may not enjoy
- 40:09Speaker 1: Step Brothers as much as he's going to enjoy a
- 40:11Speaker 1: Star is born. I don't know if that kind of
- 40:13Speaker 1: humor is made for Chad. I'm very funny. Listen, this
- 40:17Speaker 1: is what I did. I went I'm very funny. Is
- 40:19Speaker 1: what you said to that? I went to I went
- 40:22Speaker 1: to unfedered world wild Worldwide, which is which is which
- 40:25Speaker 1: actually is very funny because you and your partner had
- 40:28Speaker 1: your mom's right your bios, which was great. But even then,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I also went to your IMDb page. UM, I thought
- 40:35Speaker 1: one of my favorite lines on Unfedered Worldwide or somewhere
- 40:37Speaker 1: else you had was that the posters for all the
- 40:40Speaker 1: movies you've written are just white couples, uh, touching each
- 40:44Speaker 1: other's faces. Yeah, it's amazing. I didn't see any stars
- 40:49Speaker 1: Born uh poster until I don't even know when I
- 40:52Speaker 1: saw it, but I saw I I busted out, lam.
- 40:56Speaker 1: It could have done anything. You know, There's so many
- 40:57Speaker 1: amazing images and is and that, So I'm glad they
- 41:03Speaker 1: kept consistent. So Will How did you get hooked up
- 41:07Speaker 1: with Bradley Cooper to write this movie? It's kind of
- 41:14Speaker 1: a surreal thing. I worked on the movie forever. I
- 41:17Speaker 1: first came on the writeing uh nine years ago and uh,
- 41:21Speaker 1: I the event of development. Hell and I did a
- 41:24Speaker 1: draft and it was good, and we immediately went out
- 41:26Speaker 1: and the first director that was attached with Nick Cassinetti's
- 41:29Speaker 1: he was a great guy and super cool, and UM,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I work with Nick a little bit and then we couldn't.
- 41:34Speaker 1: They're trying to get you always were trying to find
- 41:36Speaker 1: the guy. Beyonce was usually attached for a while and
- 41:39Speaker 1: then uh, that kind of fell apart, and then Clint
- 41:42Speaker 1: Eastwood came on. I was a big one, and Clint
- 41:44Speaker 1: Wood came really close. Clint is a kind of known
- 41:46Speaker 1: out here where well, I mean he's kind of known everywhere,
- 41:48Speaker 1: but out here with Clint is he if he comes
- 41:51Speaker 1: onto a movie like it's gonna get made. And that's
- 41:54Speaker 1: the game in this business, is that you're just trying
- 41:56Speaker 1: to get to the get to somebody to spend a
- 41:58Speaker 1: bunch of money and get on set and make something.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And so Clint actually first brought it to Bradley and
- 42:04Speaker 1: then I remember this vividly. I was my my producer,
- 42:08Speaker 1: Bill Gerber, who is a good friend of mine. He's
- 42:11Speaker 1: the person who hired me on it and worked on
- 42:13Speaker 1: this forever. I mean, like I think it almost twenty years.
- 42:15Speaker 1: He's been was involved with it um and he we
- 42:20Speaker 1: had Plint, and he's talking to Beyonced and I was
- 42:22Speaker 1: really rewrites for Plint, and we were getting there like
- 42:25Speaker 1: soft pre production they call it. They weren't spending money,
- 42:27Speaker 1: but they were like flying to check out locations. And
- 42:30Speaker 1: then I think he read the script for Jersey Boys
- 42:33Speaker 1: or something. Is that that's something that's the apocryphal story,
- 42:37Speaker 1: But in any event, I didn't hear from anybody for
- 42:39Speaker 1: like a month, and then all of a sudden, it
- 42:40Speaker 1: was like they can't make the dates work since going
- 42:43Speaker 1: to Jersey Boys, and kind of everything fall apart. But
- 42:46Speaker 1: that did lead to Bradley and Clint. I think that
- 42:49Speaker 1: was the pretext for him meeting to American Sniper. So
- 42:52Speaker 1: that worked out well, hurt up and then that karmically
- 42:54Speaker 1: came back after American Sniper, where Bradley had he always
- 43:00Speaker 1: wanted to talk about it a bunch on the press day.
- 43:02Speaker 1: He just always want to try to make a love
- 43:04Speaker 1: story and he loves music, and this property got in
- 43:07Speaker 1: front of him and he read my draft and then
- 43:10Speaker 1: I remember getting a call like are you available tomorrow
- 43:14Speaker 1: to come out to Malibu? And I met him out
- 43:16Speaker 1: in Malibu to along his friend past and and we
- 43:19Speaker 1: just talked it through and hit it off. And within
- 43:21Speaker 1: two months I was in London because he was doing
- 43:23Speaker 1: The Elephant Man. We're starting to rewrite the script, so
- 43:26Speaker 1: and we've been working it for a couple of years.
- 43:28Speaker 1: What did you cancel the day you were supposed to
- 43:31Speaker 1: go to Malibu? You're very busy. I imagine you have
- 43:34Speaker 1: something to do. I probably canceled sitting in a coffee
- 43:38Speaker 1: shop staring at my computer and uh and checking the
- 43:43Speaker 1: checking the gambling lines. For I guess it would have
- 43:45Speaker 1: been March April, so I would have been looking at
- 43:46Speaker 1: the NBA playoffs. That's that's what I can do, all right,
- 43:49Speaker 1: So let's talk about that for a second. That's a
- 43:51Speaker 1: great story and we're super psyched for you, and um,
- 43:54Speaker 1: black Jack, do you mind if I asked a question?
- 43:55Speaker 1: Do you have a question you want to ask black Jack?
- 43:59Speaker 1: Does black was that question? Yeah? Well, at what point
- 44:03Speaker 1: was it when you were writing this? Was it when
- 44:06Speaker 1: Bradley Cooper came on? At what point did you sit
- 44:08Speaker 1: back and realize, like, I think we've got something really
- 44:11Speaker 1: special here. Well, I knew Bradley was really special. Um,
- 44:17Speaker 1: that's kind of a it sounds a kind of a
- 44:18Speaker 1: pat answer, but I'll say that it was a couple
- 44:21Speaker 1: of phases, like when I first met that guy, Um,
- 44:24Speaker 1: he was talking through scenes in such a vivid, specific way,
- 44:29Speaker 1: and you were a very very talented, smart person. And
- 44:31Speaker 1: so I've been in the business long enough to kind
- 44:34Speaker 1: of like me a lot of people, and he is
- 44:37Speaker 1: one of those. He is one of those people that
- 44:38Speaker 1: has like the quality of he got everything. You know,
- 44:41Speaker 1: it's karasmatic smart, but he really understands him and he
- 44:45Speaker 1: had to. He had really specific ideas and I remember
- 44:47Speaker 1: him acting at a couple of scenes he already had
- 44:49Speaker 1: in his head, and um, so I knew he was
- 44:52Speaker 1: gonna And also this isn't the wait. Literally I met
- 44:55Speaker 1: him a month after the The American Sniper oscars, Like,
- 44:59Speaker 1: so knew that the height of that, and I knew
- 45:02Speaker 1: what he was capable of, and I knew he wasn't
- 45:04Speaker 1: going to come on and just like kind of it
- 45:07Speaker 1: has chanced to be special. Uh, And then we did
- 45:11Speaker 1: a screen test for God and I got to I
- 45:14Speaker 1: got to spend some time with her and met her
- 45:17Speaker 1: and she's just such an exceptional person. I mean, she's
- 45:20Speaker 1: really humble, she's it's just an unbelievably talented person, like
- 45:25Speaker 1: as talented as everybody is. Uh that her voice is something,
- 45:30Speaker 1: it's like a special effect. I mean, it's really all
- 45:33Speaker 1: the Michael Bay you know, who's the best probably best
- 45:35Speaker 1: sessue writer in the world. You know, can't and you
- 45:38Speaker 1: can spend fifty million dollars in an actually sequence or
- 45:40Speaker 1: you can just put the camera on her face and
- 45:42Speaker 1: let her saying, I mean that's how how how exactly
- 45:45Speaker 1: she is so her being involved, and then you know,
- 45:49Speaker 1: and then once you get into the production and stuff,
- 45:52Speaker 1: it's funny. I did I know I was gonna talk
- 45:54Speaker 1: to you guys have thought about this, and I writing
- 45:56Speaker 1: a screenplay is actually similar to handicapping the game, and
- 46:00Speaker 1: and it is similar in this way, like you, we
- 46:03Speaker 1: work really really hard, and Bradley and I met over
- 46:06Speaker 1: and over again. I wrote, I rewrote, We wrote hundreds
- 46:11Speaker 1: of thousands of words, and we just kept writing, rewriting,
- 46:14Speaker 1: changing themes because we're finding refining um. And then you
- 46:19Speaker 1: just kind of a certain point the director has to
- 46:21Speaker 1: go make the movie. You're you're writing a blueprint to
- 46:23Speaker 1: build house. So it wasn't until really I kind of
- 46:28Speaker 1: knew that the script was strong, but you know, I
- 46:31Speaker 1: didn't know, I know if all the performances are going
- 46:33Speaker 1: to come together, I know if it was all gonna work.
- 46:35Speaker 1: And then I saw a cut at the test screening
- 46:38Speaker 1: and and uh it was the shallow scene where I
- 46:41Speaker 1: was like, oh, fuck, yeah, we're I have listened to
- 46:46Speaker 1: that song. I haven't seen the movie, as we know
- 46:49Speaker 1: you that I have listened to a Shallow literally like
- 46:54Speaker 1: probably seventy five times. I just listened to it on
- 46:57Speaker 1: Spotify on repeat, and like on spot if I I
- 47:00Speaker 1: have some of the soundtracks, I'll play it in the
- 47:02Speaker 1: car and then sometimes I will switch over to Lady
- 47:05Speaker 1: Gaga and the first song that plays is shallow and
- 47:08Speaker 1: Will what you're describing the process you're describing of sort
- 47:11Speaker 1: of writing a movie like Stify so bad. Uh. It
- 47:17Speaker 1: reminds me a lot of the way black Jack and
- 47:18Speaker 1: I handicap. I feel like, you know, there's so much
- 47:22Speaker 1: tension and drama, and like we spend so much time
- 47:25Speaker 1: working on it to get it right. And oftentimes when
- 47:29Speaker 1: I look at Blackjack, I think it's like I'm staring
- 47:32Speaker 1: into the deep blue pools of Bradley Cooper. That's a fact,
- 47:38Speaker 1: will more important question because Chad's just rambling at this point. Um,
- 47:44Speaker 1: there was no question there. That was just by the way,
- 47:48Speaker 1: here's a bit of advice. Can I give you some
- 47:50Speaker 1: advice when Will is talking, just let him talk. Don't
- 47:54Speaker 1: be like you don't tell Also, don't even Lady Gaga, Okay,
- 48:00Speaker 1: And you're like, yeah, of course, of course, of course
- 48:03Speaker 1: you're acting like you haven't even seen the movie Clown.
- 48:06Speaker 1: I did see the Lady Gaga documentary, and I thought,
- 48:09Speaker 1: more importantly is when Blackjack writes the next Great American film,
- 48:14Speaker 1: can I bring it to you? Oh my god, do
- 48:17Speaker 1: I now have Does Blackjack now have a connection in Hollywood? Yeah?
- 48:23Speaker 1: I mean like every you have, like every rapper, like
- 48:27Speaker 1: like Dr Jay gets Eminem and then retires and also
- 48:30Speaker 1: beaton and make some billion dollars and then name the
- 48:32Speaker 1: name get strict cent and I need kind of have
- 48:35Speaker 1: to work for like ten years exactly. That's the game
- 48:37Speaker 1: out here too. You I'd love for you to be
- 48:39Speaker 1: my Eminem and you know, you know what will When
- 48:42Speaker 1: you were describing Bradley Cooper, you were talking about someone
- 48:46Speaker 1: smart with creative vision. It felt like you were describing
- 48:50Speaker 1: Blackjack in a way. So Blackjack thinks this could definitely
- 48:55Speaker 1: be a thing where we collaborate and right the next
- 48:58Speaker 1: Great American film. Also, yeah, I do think. You know,
- 49:02Speaker 1: Bradley did not refer to himself as Bradley and the
- 49:05Speaker 1: third person as often, but you know, but he did
- 49:08Speaker 1: do it. Icon that's true. Icons can't do it. Yeah, Chad,
- 49:14Speaker 1: nobody named Chad can refer to himself in the third person.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Nobody Yad thinks Black Chack is a fraud and uh, well,
- 49:24Speaker 1: well then what does that say about Chad for hiring
- 49:26Speaker 1: if you met black Chack, I was hiring a clown.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I needed a personality. That's it. It's like you're eating
- 49:35Speaker 1: a kish. I like you. I think that your acrimony
- 49:40Speaker 1: actually really helps you in the contest, because I do
- 49:43Speaker 1: the contest with a friend and this year we're doing well,
- 49:47Speaker 1: we're doing We're like a check for six and two.
- 49:49Speaker 1: We're hanging in, we're in the pack and uh and
- 49:53Speaker 1: but we haven't had trouble in the past because he's
- 49:55Speaker 1: we're friends, and so we tend we were coming to
- 49:58Speaker 1: a compromise every week. We're like the consensus and that's death.
- 50:02Speaker 1: So like that Patriot game, absurd. But you were right.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I mean the black Acts read was right, which is
- 50:09Speaker 1: a good certain point. Thank you know, if you don't
- 50:11Speaker 1: know what to do, like take a stand on Tom
- 50:14Speaker 1: Brady and where it's like if it was me and
- 50:15Speaker 1: my friend the last couple of years, we would have
- 50:17Speaker 1: ended up, you know, settling on like you know, Kansas City.
- 50:22Speaker 1: But that's just how that's how it would be. Bro.
- 50:24Speaker 1: So I think you guy should keep up the actrimony.
- 50:26Speaker 1: It's helping you. I will tell you that I think
- 50:28Speaker 1: you're both idiots because resulted our first guest ever on
- 50:33Speaker 1: this show. I call him like, I see nice, real nice.
- 50:36Speaker 1: This is gonna be an Oscar Award winner, and you're
- 50:39Speaker 1: gonna call him an idiot. What's he doing for me?
- 50:41Speaker 1: He's You're gonna rid send a screening up of the
- 50:44Speaker 1: film for you. That's true. But here's the thing. Tom
- 50:48Speaker 1: Brady didn't win that game the Bill. The Bills lost
- 50:51Speaker 1: that game. The Bills lost, As you would say, doesn't matter.
- 50:55Speaker 1: The right side is the winning side. Well, how did
- 50:57Speaker 1: you get into gambling? You seem to be an officiate
- 51:00Speaker 1: at I'm not a fishing atto. I'm actually uh, I'm
- 51:04Speaker 1: you know, like every other hump out there. I just
- 51:06Speaker 1: just had about and in in high school a little bit.
- 51:09Speaker 1: But then in college was probably when I really remember
- 51:11Speaker 1: starting to to consistently lose money. UM was like we
- 51:15Speaker 1: had a bookie an apartment complex that I lived in, UM,
- 51:20Speaker 1: and I just started, you know, it's actually really funny.
- 51:23Speaker 1: The first book he was like one of those one
- 51:25Speaker 1: of those years. For the first couple of weeks of
- 51:26Speaker 1: the NFL season, the favorites were coming in and it's
- 51:29Speaker 1: like a really nice kid. It was like kind of
- 51:31Speaker 1: smart and and you know understood how bookies why put
- 51:35Speaker 1: together two and two as to how like casinos a
- 51:38Speaker 1: gigantic and beautiful. And he was like, I'm gonna take
- 51:40Speaker 1: best from all these stupid college kids. And he got
- 51:42Speaker 1: wiped out. I mean he he lost like thousands of dollars.
- 51:46Speaker 1: And then this like degenerate guy who literally looked like
- 51:49Speaker 1: a like like muscle came in and he became a
- 51:53Speaker 1: bookiepler and he made fortune and we were taking all
- 51:56Speaker 1: of our actions. And so I just kind of that,
- 51:58Speaker 1: you know that NFL pretty consistently. And then why then
- 52:03Speaker 1: I have a couple of friends out here. They really
- 52:05Speaker 1: got got me kind of back into it. When I
- 52:07Speaker 1: left that I would dabble when I love football and
- 52:10Speaker 1: basketball and f L, n B a um. So now
- 52:13Speaker 1: it's like pretty consistently to I knew the contest the
- 52:17Speaker 1: last three years, and I'll do NBA playoffs. So I
- 52:20Speaker 1: consistently that NBA playoffs, which is always fun because I'll think, like,
- 52:24Speaker 1: you know, Memphis plus hundred to beat you know, Golden
- 52:28Speaker 1: State two years ago and they're up to one and
- 52:30Speaker 1: then they just get annihilated. It really yeah, but for that,
- 52:33Speaker 1: for those two days, you're on top of the world.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Days you just got the warriors. We do it every year.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I talked myself into like, maybe this is see your
- 52:41Speaker 1: zach Ran Bolton, Marcus Sault and grind him down. Cut
- 52:44Speaker 1: to Clay Thompson hitting six threes and eight minutes. I
- 52:49Speaker 1: love talking sports of the Will he feels like one
- 52:52Speaker 1: of us. Yeah, it's because he is one of us.
- 52:54Speaker 1: We're men of the people. That's what people don't understand.
- 52:57Speaker 1: When we opened up this invitation for people tojoin us
- 53:00Speaker 1: at the film, we haven't done it yet. Well, I'm
- 53:03Speaker 1: going this is going to at the back end of
- 53:05Speaker 1: the episode, Chad have money. I'm going to wait for
- 53:09Speaker 1: somebody to give me the number that people can call
- 53:11Speaker 1: we will. I have the number. Um, we're men of
- 53:14Speaker 1: the people. Will. When we wanted to invite a stranger
- 53:17Speaker 1: to come and see A Star Is Born with us,
- 53:19Speaker 1: some in our office said we were insane. Um, black
- 53:23Speaker 1: Jack thought the only insanity was that people would want
- 53:26Speaker 1: to come and watch A Star Is Born with me
- 53:27Speaker 1: and Chad Milman. But uh, if we're men of the people.
- 53:31Speaker 1: So yeah, Will is one of us. It was it
- 53:33Speaker 1: was it was Chad Milman's idea to open it up
- 53:35Speaker 1: to the people. It was Chad Milman's idea. Well, before
- 53:38Speaker 1: we let you go, UM, let's talk about like a
- 53:42Speaker 1: couple of year props. Okay, because we're going to print
- 53:44Speaker 1: this out and we're gonna bring it with us. Uh.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I want to know how you say some of these lines.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Total cries and cry shall be defined as tearing up,
- 53:54Speaker 1: whether it's a full on ugly sob or just getting
- 53:56Speaker 1: a little reclemped. Tears of any kind equals a cry.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Millman two cries, the over minus one third, the under
- 54:03Speaker 1: plus one of five, Blackjack two and a half cries.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Your theory is that even though black Jack has seen it,
- 54:10Speaker 1: he's going to cry more. That's just that's not what
- 54:16Speaker 1: It's a straw poll of people around me. I do
- 54:18Speaker 1: think that there's a ton of little moments um that
- 54:22Speaker 1: you that you tend to feel more viscerally. Um. But
- 54:25Speaker 1: you know it's funny I have before to get into
- 54:28Speaker 1: house with the lines. I actually really he's missing like
- 54:30Speaker 1: a key piece of information. If we have an extra
- 54:32Speaker 1: two minutes, because I wanted to run through that. I
- 54:34Speaker 1: don't know if you guys are criers in movies. Jack,
- 54:40Speaker 1: that's by the way, I had a feeling given that
- 54:42Speaker 1: you've seen The Stars Born, and I really liked it
- 54:44Speaker 1: and enthusiastic. We talked about it about well, let me
- 54:47Speaker 1: let me tell you. Let me tell you a funny
- 54:49Speaker 1: story about the night I saw A Star is Born.
- 54:52Speaker 1: It was it was the night of the Yankees and
- 54:55Speaker 1: Red Sox. It was an elimination game in the first
- 54:57Speaker 1: round of the playoffs, and so Blackjack had really wanted
- 55:01Speaker 1: to see this movie, and so, uh he went to
- 55:05Speaker 1: see it that night, cried maybe twice during the movie,
- 55:10Speaker 1: walked out of the movie, and immediately said, you have
- 55:15Speaker 1: to see that movie again, because once you know how
- 55:18Speaker 1: the story progresses, there's a lot of those, as you said,
- 55:22Speaker 1: little moments early on that take on a lot more significance.
- 55:26Speaker 1: And as I was pulling into my driveway, black Jack
- 55:29Speaker 1: gets a phone call from Paul Laduka. Now ten thirty
- 55:33Speaker 1: at night, getting a phone call from Paul Laduca. It
- 55:36Speaker 1: can be any number of things. It can be any
- 55:40Speaker 1: number of definite was not. Paul Laduca called me to
- 55:44Speaker 1: tell me that he had just seen A Star is
- 55:47Speaker 1: Born as well. We went the same night during a
- 55:50Speaker 1: baseball playoff game elimination game to see A Star is Born.
- 55:55Speaker 1: And he said to me, I went to see it
- 55:59Speaker 1: with my girlfriend and I'm sitting there sobbing like a
- 56:02Speaker 1: fucking baby. Yeah, and black Jack said to him, black
- 56:06Speaker 1: Jack cried two, Paul, I mean it was it was
- 56:10Speaker 1: just it's one of those movies that if you don't cry,
- 56:14Speaker 1: you just don't have a soul. So listen. I am
- 56:17Speaker 1: also a crier at movies. The last movie I cried
- 56:20Speaker 1: at was Crazy rich Asian's I did it twice. Well,
- 56:32Speaker 1: you know the pack, you know the pack of it's
- 56:35Speaker 1: a holicaupt Mavie be really good. There's a scene. There's
- 56:41Speaker 1: a scene where where like the mom goes to play
- 56:48Speaker 1: blacks gonna cry. Now, there's a couple of scenes in
- 56:51Speaker 1: there that will get you. I'm just saying, have you
- 56:53Speaker 1: seen it? No, black does not? When din't you just
- 56:58Speaker 1: start referring yourself as black, act like as if that's it.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Black Jack started it today. I want you to continue
- 57:06Speaker 1: this alright. So here we've seen I've seen Crazy rich Asians.
- 57:11Speaker 1: I loved it, and I did cry twice. Wow, all right,
- 57:15Speaker 1: I cry it. Here's the thing. I h There's nothing
- 57:21Speaker 1: in my life that I am sentimental about or makes
- 57:23Speaker 1: me cry. You have two children, haven't cried, but I cry. Beautiful,
- 57:31Speaker 1: you should have. You should have cried when that woman
- 57:34Speaker 1: agreed to marry you. Nope, you should. But I cry
- 57:38Speaker 1: at every movie. That's I think where my emotions come out.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I'm locking them up until the movies. I wasn't going
- 57:44Speaker 1: to move the line because you're post in the shallow
- 57:46Speaker 1: a bunch, because I think the the impact of never
- 57:48Speaker 1: having heard it is pretty unique. Once you've heard it,
- 57:51Speaker 1: you know it's still because you don't have the context
- 57:54Speaker 1: sports I was gonna say, I think. I think so
- 57:56Speaker 1: the next one I want to talk about this is
- 57:57Speaker 1: the last one to talk about. Well, shallow be sponsible
- 58:00Speaker 1: for a Millman cry. Um. I will tell you I
- 58:05Speaker 1: have heard the song a thousand times, and at two
- 58:08Speaker 1: minutes and twenty eight seconds, Lady Gaga comes in like
- 58:13Speaker 1: a rumbling thunder. That's not when you're gonna cry, and
- 58:16Speaker 1: she just destroys that song. And I am thinking, when
- 58:21Speaker 1: I have the context and it's on screen and I
- 58:23Speaker 1: have the images, I am I am going to be
- 58:26Speaker 1: a blubber and fool. You'll be one before that. Well,
- 58:30Speaker 1: I'm just thinking in that moment. Yes, his mind is
- 58:33Speaker 1: two D that knows plus two fifty. I like that
- 58:35Speaker 1: he wrote in parentheses Noman's Got Kids seems like a
- 58:39Speaker 1: guy who fearlessly takes chances, pursues dreams, definitely still has
- 58:43Speaker 1: the best friend. Totally. I'm all in on yes here.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Will not only writes great movies, he writes great props
- 58:50Speaker 1: and he understands like he's playing the bookmaker game here.
- 58:54Speaker 1: He does take chances. He left a very lucrative career
- 58:56Speaker 1: at ESPN to work with Blackjack. Also, although Blackjack is
- 59:02Speaker 1: his new best friends, so it's true both of those.
- 59:06Speaker 1: I'm crazy and love Will fetters your best friend. He's
- 59:10Speaker 1: gonna be hurt. You know what. He doesn't even listen
- 59:13Speaker 1: to the podcast, so him his wife dies though. Actually
- 59:16Speaker 1: know his wife texted me the other day and said, hey,
- 59:18Speaker 1: you know one of my friends who listened to your podcast.
- 59:20Speaker 1: He said, you mentioned Matt the other day. Should I listen?
- 59:22Speaker 1: I go, I don't know. I think I mentioned him
- 59:25Speaker 1: and that was it. I don't know if you should
- 59:26Speaker 1: be texting another man's wife one of my best friends.
- 59:30Speaker 1: You know, listen, people come into my orbit and they
- 59:33Speaker 1: all become frished redhead. Alright, she's safe. Will fetters Uh,

- 1:00:20Speaker 1: went to That's really cool. We went to see the
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: same night when there was an elimination playoff baseball game
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: on and we had this conversation afterwards that we were
