- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Friday, it's the 3rd of
- 0:16January. It is the easy days.
- 0:19I hope you are going well. Thank you for inviting me into
- 0:23your day as we are going to do what we do every Friday and
- 0:28every Friday for the next 4 Fridays until we finish finish
- 0:32the book of Psalms. After three years of Friday in
- 0:36the Psalms, we are almost at the end.
- 0:39And then friends, we are going to enjoy Proverbs on Fridays and
- 0:44we're not going to plough our way through a chapter of
- 0:47Proverbs each times with a squazillion incredible sayings
- 0:51of Solomon. No, we are going to do them just
- 0:55a handful at a time so we can soak up the incredible wisdom
- 0:59that God has for us in His Word. But I'm a little ahead of
- 1:04myself. That is about a month away.
- 1:06Today we have got a glorious Psalm of praise, a Psalm of
- 1:12praise to Yahweh for His Providence, the way that He sets
- 1:16things up for the people that He loves for us.
- 1:20And so this Psalm, friends, is for you and for me.
- 1:25So let us read it together. Let us declare it together in
- 1:29our hearts as we share praise with our God in the words of
- 1:34Psalm 147, Praise the Lord.
- 1:49How good to sing praises to our God.
- 1:52How delightful and how fitting. The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem
- 1:58and bringing the Exiles back to Israel.
- 2:01He heals the broken hearted and bandages their wounds.
- 2:06He counts the stars and calls them all by name.
- 2:11How great is our Lord? His power is absolute.
- 2:16His understanding is beyond comprehension.
- 2:19The Lord supports the humble, but He brings the wicked down
- 2:23into the dust. Sing out your thanks to the
- 2:28Lord. Sing praises to our God with a
- 2:30harp. He covers the heavens with
- 2:33clouds, provides rain for the earth, and makes the grass grow
- 2:38in mountain pastures. He gives food to the wild
- 2:42animals and feeds the young Ravens when they cry.
- 2:46He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human
- 2:49might. No, the Lord's delight is in
- 2:53those who fear Him, those who put their hope in His unfailing
- 2:58love. Glorify the Lord, O Jerusalem.
- 3:03Praise your God, O Zion, for He has strengthened the bars of
- 3:08your gates and blessed your children within your walls.
- 3:12He sends peace across your nation and satisfies your hunger
- 3:17with the finest wheat. He sends His orders to the
- 3:21world. How swiftly his word flies.
- 3:24He sends the snow like white wool.
- 3:27He scatters frost upon the ground like ashes.
- 3:31He hurls the hail like stones. Who can stand against his
- 3:36freezing cold? Then at his command, it all
- 3:41melts. He sends his winds and the ice
- 3:45thaws. He has revealed his words to
- 3:48Jacob, his decrees and regulations to Israel.
- 3:53He has not done this for any other nation.
- 3:56They do not know His regulations.
- 3:59Praise the Lord, Oh Lord, you are so mighty.
- 4:15At your words. The world freezes and thaws and
- 4:20blossoms and melts and begins the cycle all over again.
- 4:24You are so mighty, our glorious, glorious God, and yet you
- 4:31delight in US. You delight in us when we put
- 4:36our hope in You, and not just in you generally, but in your
- 4:40unfailing love for us. Oh Lord, how kind You are to us,
- 4:49that you lavish not just your attention on us, not just your
- 4:53favour and not just the rejoicing of your heart on us,
- 4:58but you do that all in your unfailing love that you
- 5:02desperately want us to know about.
- 5:06And so here we are. We delight in You and we fear
- 5:11you, Almighty God, and we celebrate your unending grace,
- 5:18your undying favour and your unfailing love.
- 5:24Thank you, Lord, for this love and the way that you showed us
- 5:28this love by sending us Jesus, who gave it all for us to
- 5:33restore us to You. And so here we are standing
- 5:37boldly in your presence all through what Jesus has done for
- 5:41us. So we pray all of these things
- 5:44in His saving name, Amen.
