- 0:02Human beings have a limited range of perception with
- 0:05boundaries both above and below the vibrational thresholds that
- 0:10we can consciously receive. We know of various animals that
- 0:15can perceive things in ranges above or below the human levels
- 0:19of perception with respect to sound, light, scent, etc.
- 0:25And we are aware that the spectrum of vibrations far
- 0:28exceeds our limited range and is not limited solely to sense
- 0:33perceptions. What we do not generally
- 0:36acknowledge is that vibrational patterns that take place above
- 0:41or below our perceptive range actually can and do influence
- 0:47our existence, our thoughts, emotions, feelings, and physical
- 0:52responses to circumstances. Although we will acknowledge
- 0:57that at the physical level, UV or infrared waves can harm our
- 1:02physical bodies, provoke growth of cancerous cells, or cause
- 1:08blindness, Sri Aurobindo refers to three occult sources that
- 1:13impact us. These are sources other than
- 1:16those we directly perceive and acknowledge with our senses.
- 1:20These can be vibrations in the electromagnetic spectrum or
- 1:25vibrations from forces active at those levels as their native
- 1:30realms with consciousness, intention, and will.
- 1:34Super conscient refers to those vibrational patterns and forces
- 1:39that take place at a higher vibration than what we can
- 1:42perceive. Subliminal implies forces that
- 1:46are within our normal range but do not gain sufficient notice,
- 1:51either through our own inattention, the filtering
- 1:54process our brains use to limit extraneous information, or
- 1:59through insufficient force of the vibration to create an act
- 2:04of perception. The all or nothing phenomenon in
- 2:08our eyes is such a situation. Photons of light may be
- 2:13impinging on our visual sense, but until a certain quanta of
- 2:17photons are active, we do not perceive the action of the light
- 2:22as the senses are not yet triggered to acknowledge them.
- 2:26Once the sufficient impulse is received, we suddenly
- 2:30acknowledge the presence of the light.
- 2:33Subconscient refers to those things that vibrate below our
- 2:37level of perception. Much of the long standing,
- 2:41habitual, and instinctive reactions comes from this
- 2:45subconscious level. The flow of forces throughout
- 2:49the universal creation are constantly working upon,
- 2:53impacting, and influencing us, and, as we become habituated to
- 2:58specific vibrational patterns, set ourselves up to acknowledge
- 3:03them, receive them, and respond to them.
- 3:06We create habits or grooves of behavior that we identify as our
- 3:12personality, as who we are, and as what sets us apart from
- 3:17others with a unique individuality.
- 3:22This habituation process also tends to further limit our
- 3:25ability to recognize and experience vibrational patterns
- 3:29that fall outside of our habitual range, even if they
- 3:33happen to fit generally within our human perceptive range.
- 3:39Shriorobindo writes, Quote There are three occult sources of our
- 3:44action, the superconcient, the subliminal, the subconcient.
- 3:50But of none of them are we in control or even aware.
- 3:54What we are aware of is the surface being, which is only an
- 3:58instrumental arrangement. The source of all is that
- 4:02general nature, universal nature, individualizing itself
- 4:06in each person. For this general nature deposits
- 4:10certain habits of movement, personality, character,
- 4:15faculties, dispositions, tendencies in US, and that
- 4:21whether form now or before our birth, is what we usually call
- 4:26ourselves. A good deal of this is in
- 4:29habitual movement and use in our known conscious parts on the
- 4:34surface. A great deal more is concealed
- 4:38in the other unknown 3, which are below or behind the surface.
- 4:44But what we are on the surface is being constantly set in
- 4:48motion, changed, developed, or repeated by the waves of the
- 4:54general nature coming in on us, either directly or else
- 4:57indirectly, through others, through circumstances, through
- 5:01various agencies or channels. Some of this flows straight into
- 5:06the conscious parts and acts there, but our mind ignores its
- 5:10source, appropriates it, and regards all that as its own.
- 5:16A part comes secretly into the subcontinent, or sinks into it,
- 5:21and waits for an opportunity of rising up into the conscious
- 5:24surface. A good deal goes into the
- 5:27subliminal, and may at any time come out, or may not, may rather
- 5:32rest there as unused matter part passes through and is rejected,
- 5:38thrown back, or thrown out, or spilt into the universal sea.
- 5:44Our nature is a constant activity of forces supplied to
- 5:48us, out of which, or rather out of a small amount of it, we
- 5:53make. What we will or can.
- 5:56What we make seems fixed in form for good, but in reality it is
- 6:01all a play of forces, a flux, nothing fixed or stable.
- 6:06The appearance of stability is given by constant repetition and
- 6:10recurrence of the same vibrations and formations.
