- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm toom Flucky.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm the singer guitar player of the band Edemon and
- 0:04Speaker 2: we're going to be coming to Australia next month to
- 0:07Speaker 2: do a little tour with the Elmina.
- 0:11Speaker 3: That's you are indeed, thanks for joining us today. Hey,
- 0:15Speaker 3: so it was just stay b Adema hit Australia for
- 0:18Speaker 3: the first time ever this September for three shows with
- 0:20Speaker 3: El Nino, starting in Sydney on September the twelfth, then
- 0:23Speaker 3: hitting Melbourne and Brisbane consecutive days. So he's not long
- 0:26Speaker 3: to go now, Bright, you're.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Packed and ready to go. No, no, no, I'm not no.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Actually, we we're excited, that's for sure.
- 0:36Speaker 1: But facting ready for me takes about four and a
- 0:38Speaker 1: half minutes.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And and right now we're just finishing up we're trying
- 0:43Speaker 2: to finish up our record. Right now, we've recorded all
- 0:47Speaker 2: the songs were written and re recorded drums and bass
- 0:49Speaker 2: and some guitars and so I'm gonna record some more
- 0:53Speaker 2: guitars tomorrow and then just some vocals and then you know,
- 0:56Speaker 2: we'll probably get it done when we get back to Australia.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I guess the big question is, mate, like this is
- 1:02Speaker 3: your first have a trip to Australia. So Howard, why
- 1:04Speaker 3: the hell had you neglected us for so long?
- 1:06Speaker 1: Brother? Well, it's not on you, guys, so we It's funny.
- 1:12Speaker 2: We had a tour that we were going to do
- 1:13Speaker 2: in Australia maybe twenty three years ago.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And then something else came up.
- 1:18Speaker 2: That we had to do that was I can't remember
- 1:21Speaker 2: what it was, but we always thought like, oh, well,
- 1:23Speaker 2: just reschedule, or we'll find a way to get back
- 1:25Speaker 2: to Australia in the next couple of months, and it
- 1:28Speaker 2: just never happened. So and that's so we've always wanted
- 1:31Speaker 2: to go there and and put me more excited about
- 1:34Speaker 2: finally getting over there.
- 1:35Speaker 3: You guys have toured pretty much all over the world, mate,
- 1:38Speaker 3: So when you go to a country for the first time,
- 1:40Speaker 3: like Australia, do you do your research right? Do you
- 1:42Speaker 3: talk to people that have been here before and find
- 1:43Speaker 3: out what to expect or are you just coming cold
- 1:45Speaker 3: and see what it delivers.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I I might talk to some people, but a lot,
- 1:51Speaker 2: you know, especially with you know, access to information. I've
- 1:55Speaker 2: been looking at some stuff I want to I'm a
- 1:58Speaker 2: tourist of the band, so I like to see up
- 2:00Speaker 2: and so I'm gonna want to even though we have
- 2:02Speaker 2: a limited time, I'm gonna want to, you know, walk
- 2:05Speaker 2: around and kind of know where I want to go
- 2:07Speaker 2: beforehand and see where we're playing and see what's around
- 2:11Speaker 2: there and try to take it as much as I can.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And then obviously we'd love to have a good.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Experience this time so we can come back many more
- 2:19Speaker 2: times and more often.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so what are you actually expecting from Astrying Crabs.
- 2:24Speaker 3: We're pretty pretty crazy on this side of the world.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I've been hearing that. That's exciting to me.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I like crazy, So so yeah, we're excited about that.
- 2:34Speaker 2: That's why you know, we're concentrating on playing since our
- 2:37Speaker 2: first time, we want to concentrate on playing all.
- 2:38Speaker 1: The songs that hopefully everybody knows and of our first few.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Albums and and and have a good set where people
- 2:45Speaker 2: can show their energy and feel our energy. And so yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 2: we're excited to.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Like I said, I've been hearing about the fans over there,
- 2:53Speaker 1: so I'm excited to see what's up well.
- 2:55Speaker 3: And the flip side of that night is that we
- 2:56Speaker 3: got no idea what to expect from you on this,
- 2:58Speaker 3: so I run us through a cheapical demo log shown.
- 3:02Speaker 2: So we like to, like I said, we like to
- 3:05Speaker 2: play all the songs that we hopefully hopefully people know
- 3:07Speaker 2: from our history and stuff. And then we like to
- 3:10Speaker 2: keep it, you know, we like to keep the energy involved,
- 3:14Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We might have one song that's kind of a mid
- 3:19Speaker 1: tempo thing, but we like to keep.
- 3:20Speaker 2: The energy up. And then we have a lot of
- 3:22Speaker 2: fun on stage. And you know, now that I've been
- 3:25Speaker 2: singing again for like the last year or so, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I like to have a lot of fun. I like
- 3:29Speaker 2: to talk to the crowd and have a good time
- 3:30Speaker 2: with the crowd, so, you know, just a high energy
- 3:34Speaker 2: kind of experience.
- 3:35Speaker 1: And then also afterwards, we love coming out.
- 3:38Speaker 2: After the show's over and and talking with as many
- 3:41Speaker 2: fans as we can and meeting as many people as
- 3:43Speaker 2: we can and answer questions and taking pics for just
- 3:46Speaker 2: hanging out.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yeah nice.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Now, how much thought actually goes into choosing the right
- 3:51Speaker 3: bands to tour with? Like I know, back in the day,
- 3:53Speaker 3: you just take your mate's salon or a band it
- 3:55Speaker 3: look like they'd be fun. But these days, in the
- 3:57Speaker 3: modernized music, you've got to actually look at a lot
- 3:59Speaker 3: a lot of things.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I mean, it's still the same though.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I mean, like a lot of the bands who played
- 4:05Speaker 2: with now are the bands who played with back then.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Like we just did a tour with Spine Shank and
- 4:11Speaker 2: Union Underground and we had never toured Union Underground, but
- 4:14Speaker 2: we'd always been fans. And then spine Shank we had
- 4:16Speaker 2: toured like twenty years ago with them, and so, uh,
- 4:20Speaker 2: you know.
- 4:21Speaker 1: It's just kind of whatever.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It's kind of like all those things where you just
- 4:24Speaker 2: use your instinct when you hear like, hey, those guys
- 4:26Speaker 2: want to do a tour you and you if you immediately.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Say yourself, yeah, that would be awesome, Let's do that. Like,
- 4:32Speaker 1: you know, we did a couple of shows. It snot
- 4:34Speaker 1: last year. That was cool.
- 4:35Speaker 2: We were kind of we were definitely honored that they
- 4:38Speaker 2: wanted us to do a couple of shows with them
- 4:39Speaker 2: with their big reunion and so, you know, and then
- 4:43Speaker 2: we'll tour with bands like head Pe. They are just
- 4:45Speaker 2: our you know that we our music is probably not
- 4:48Speaker 2: that similar, but we just love hanging out and the people.
- 4:52Speaker 2: You know, people are pretty diverse what they listen to,
- 4:54Speaker 2: so you know, we just love being around those guys
- 4:57Speaker 2: and having a good time. Or you know, it's a
- 5:00Speaker 2: lot of different things to go down with it, but yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 2: mostly it doesn't make sense and are we going to
- 5:07Speaker 2: have fun?
- 5:09Speaker 1: What else could be in it? Yeah?
- 5:11Speaker 3: Exactly got back to the stop my like a dam
- 5:14Speaker 3: has started in Bakersfield, California at the turn of the century.
- 5:17Speaker 3: So what was the musical climate like that gay both
- 5:19Speaker 3: to the band and where did you fit in in
- 5:21Speaker 3: the initial base?
- 5:23Speaker 2: Well, it came from Bakersfield, So Bakersfield, you know, it's
- 5:28Speaker 2: not unlike where a lot of mental music was born
- 5:31Speaker 2: in kind of like these kind of blue collar kind
- 5:35Speaker 2: of working man's industrial you know, Bigger Shield's a big oil.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Town, you know, and so it's you know, just I
- 5:43Speaker 1: grew up as.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Small I was the only one not from Bakersfield, but
- 5:45Speaker 2: I moved there in the mid nineties.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And but I came from a small town of farmers,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and so it.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Was just kind of like just having that that grit
- 5:55Speaker 4: and that kind of attitude in life and then always
- 5:57Speaker 4: being metal fans too, Like you know, I was thrash
- 6:00Speaker 4: metal dude, and so you know it was just at
- 6:03Speaker 4: that time you're kind of coming.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Out of the garunge a little bit.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And uh, and but we all grew up and with
- 6:12Speaker 2: so many different musical styles as well, so we were
- 6:15Speaker 2: kind of incorporating that. I know that we all can
- 6:18Speaker 2: play you know, I grew up naighties and like I said,
- 6:20Speaker 2: I love frash mental, so I can you know, I played,
- 6:22Speaker 2: grew up playing guitar solos and love that stuff.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But at the time, we were like, what is what
- 6:27Speaker 1: can we do?
- 6:27Speaker 2: It's different, you know, we just wanted to be kind
- 6:29Speaker 2: of minimalistic a little bit, and and we all love melody,
- 6:33Speaker 2: but we all love hard music.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So it was just kind of and it was always
- 6:36Speaker 1: this kind of grind, you know, you know, and grinding.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I know at the time that I was living, uh,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I was doing pretty well, but I was working too
- 6:46Speaker 2: much and I was like, I can't do this as
- 6:48Speaker 2: I can't I got I came here to be in
- 6:49Speaker 2: a band, man. So I just remember them surfering couches
- 6:52Speaker 2: and working odd jobs and just kind of like just
- 6:56Speaker 2: living in studios whatever. It was just just, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 2: we only have our minds on one thing, and that
- 7:02Speaker 2: was playing heavy music, and and all that just came
- 7:05Speaker 2: out from that.
- 7:06Speaker 1: All, you know, all our life experiences coming out in
- 7:09Speaker 1: the music.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Cool and you started out as the guitarist, but along
- 7:13Speaker 3: the way you inherited the role of lead singing. So
- 7:15Speaker 3: is that something you'd always wanted to do or was
- 7:17Speaker 3: it more out of necessity.
- 7:20Speaker 1: No, I did not always want to be that.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I didn't mind doing backup vocals, that was cool. I
- 7:25Speaker 2: liked just being over in my guitar world.
- 7:28Speaker 1: But and you know, and doing that and being able
- 7:31Speaker 1: to jump around and move around and you know, interact
- 7:34Speaker 1: with the crowd that way. And then it just came
- 7:36Speaker 1: by necessity.
- 7:37Speaker 2: One tour, you know, our singer had we had already
- 7:41Speaker 2: we couldn't find them for days, and then like we
- 7:43Speaker 2: already missed a couple of shows, and we're like, are
- 7:45Speaker 2: we going to get sued? And can you do it?
- 7:49Speaker 2: They're like, can you do it? I go, I me
- 7:51Speaker 2: else try you know. So literally, on the on the
- 7:54Speaker 2: way out to the first show, we never rehearsed with
- 7:57Speaker 2: me singing. I just was I was just sitting there
- 7:59Speaker 2: playing guitar and trying to sing along with this stuff.
- 8:02Speaker 2: And we went out there and I was like, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 2: the first song, but we were like, let's play three
- 8:09Speaker 2: songs about saying a word and see what happens. You know,
- 8:11Speaker 2: we'll see how the crowd reacts. And the first song
- 8:13Speaker 2: people were like confused, and the second song they were
- 8:17Speaker 2: kind of like, that's okay.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And then the third song they were like this, this
- 8:20Speaker 1: is fine, this is this works. And so never won said.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Anybody said they wanted their money back, or nobody said
- 8:25Speaker 2: it suck to our faces and so and so, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: it just kind of grew from that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And then Mark he did come back for a little while,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but then he kind of essentially retired.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And then and then we got offered a tour in
- 8:39Speaker 2: twenty nineteen, and I was like, let's bring somebody in
- 8:41Speaker 2: from our genre, just saying and then Ryan came in
- 8:46Speaker 2: from Orgy and Julian K, but he was he had
- 8:48Speaker 2: another band, so it's always going to be temporary.
- 8:50Speaker 1: So then when it.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Came down to making a decision about moving on, and
- 8:55Speaker 2: we were getting offered record deals at the time, so.
- 8:57Speaker 1: We were like and they're like, do you want to
- 8:59Speaker 1: sing again? Yeah, let's do it. We don't need to
- 9:01Speaker 1: bring anybody else in here, you know.
- 9:03Speaker 2: But we're you know, the four of us have been
- 9:05Speaker 2: running so for twenty five years, so we can deal
- 9:07Speaker 2: with each other.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So I'm sure, it's hard for somebody new to.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Come into that situation, you know, you know, we, like
- 9:14Speaker 2: I said, we're we're not normal dudes our vand would
- 9:17Speaker 2: be boring.
- 9:18Speaker 1: If it was.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So, I know, it's probably hard for people to come
- 9:19Speaker 2: and enjoy that and just be around guys who've been
- 9:22Speaker 2: around each other for twenty five years.
- 9:24Speaker 3: True, How was the transition pricess for you, Bry, Like, Hey,
- 9:26Speaker 3: you fully settled into it or do you still still
- 9:29Speaker 3: a bit?
- 9:29Speaker 1: I think so.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I think the difference between me back then and me
- 9:33Speaker 2: doing it now is I'm a little more confident with
- 9:37Speaker 2: the crowd, you know what I mean. I just pretty
- 9:39Speaker 2: much went to the James Heapfield school of the crowd,
- 9:43Speaker 2: you know what I mean, and just kind of not
- 9:46Speaker 2: copying him, but just being like, you know, some singers
- 9:50Speaker 2: get the tendency of saying.
- 9:51Speaker 1: The same thing and the same spots every.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Night and then kind of you know, maybe homogenizing it
- 9:58Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But I just I'm just one day to say, you.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Know, I'm just gonna say whatever the hell comes to
- 10:05Speaker 2: my mind. You know, who cares what the repercussions are.
- 10:09Speaker 2: So it's so I feel a lot more comfortable on
- 10:12Speaker 2: stage doing that, and I think people react to that.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I think when you're just who you are, people react
- 10:16Speaker 1: to that. I don't think you every just have to
- 10:18Speaker 1: agree with what you're saying.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And I'm not political, but I'm just saying that they
- 10:22Speaker 2: don't have to like or agree with that, but they.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Can appreciate you being yourself. Yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Now, from my research, and I probably got this right,
- 10:28Speaker 3: but you haven't actually sung on an album that's been
- 10:31Speaker 3: released yet. I mean, your money just done love shows.
- 10:33Speaker 1: There was one where we did an EP. It didn't
- 10:36Speaker 1: really get released. It was that was that was my story.
- 10:39Speaker 2: But so I had done a couple of songs and
- 10:41Speaker 2: you can kind of find them on the internet.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And they're decent. It's just not really it.
- 10:48Speaker 2: But Mikey, our original guitar player who was in the
- 10:50Speaker 2: band now, is not on that record. So now this
- 10:53Speaker 2: new stuff sounds really it sounds like a demas. It's
- 10:57Speaker 2: the original band, it's everybody from the band and so
- 11:00Speaker 2: and then you know, just through kind of I'm sure osmosis.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I you know, there's any parts where I sound like Marky,
- 11:07Speaker 2: our original singer, and then I have my own thing too,
- 11:10Speaker 2: But you know, it just sounds like a demon now,
- 11:12Speaker 2: and so I'm excited about it. The songs are cool,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and and like I said, I have a little more
- 11:15Speaker 2: confidence probably with.
- 11:17Speaker 1: What my sound is and what kind of singer I
- 11:20Speaker 1: want to be.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, what can you tell us about the new music, mate?
- 11:23Speaker 3: Is it is there? What a David fans that expect
- 11:25Speaker 3: or of you?
- 11:28Speaker 1: I think it is.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I think obviously it's going to evolve a little bit,
- 11:32Speaker 2: but it's not. It is not far from our first
- 11:35Speaker 2: two or three records, So you know, I think demon
- 11:37Speaker 2: fans will be into it. So, like I said, having
- 11:41Speaker 2: everybody kind of brings their own kind of special thing
- 11:43Speaker 2: that to the band that made it sound like a
- 11:45Speaker 2: demon back then, I think that's back in the band now.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So and it helped you. I had to change the
- 11:51Speaker 1: way I kind of wrote music.
- 11:52Speaker 2: When Mikey was out of the band, and so now
- 11:54Speaker 2: to go back to how I originally wanted to do
- 11:57Speaker 2: it and how I'm doing it now that when I
- 12:00Speaker 2: write a part that, you know, I can think about, Okay,
- 12:03Speaker 2: what's he going to do over it?
- 12:05Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It's what's Dave going to
- 12:07Speaker 1: do on bass? That stuff?
- 12:08Speaker 2: What's Chris's going to do on drums. So that's exciting
- 12:12Speaker 2: for us, and I hopefully it's exciting for our fans.
- 12:15Speaker 3: It's true I write on that little bit by look,
- 12:17Speaker 3: because now you are writing, you're going to be singing it,
- 12:19Speaker 3: not someone else. So does it Does it changed the
- 12:22Speaker 3: way you think about writing us up?
- 12:25Speaker 1: Not really?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Were kind of always do it the same way anyway,
- 12:29Speaker 2: you know, we would, we would write the music, and
- 12:32Speaker 2: I don't think we ever wrote a.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Song where Yeah, I know bands do it where they
- 12:36Speaker 1: write maybe a vocal melody and try to write around that.
- 12:39Speaker 2: That's never kind of been our thing, aren't they is
- 12:41Speaker 2: kind of write the music and then go in and
- 12:44Speaker 2: try to write the best vocal hooks and melodies we
- 12:47Speaker 2: can over something. Obviously you're discerning parts as verse or
- 12:51Speaker 2: chorus or bridge or whatever. But but you know, at
- 12:55Speaker 2: the same time, I don't think there's sometimes when I'll
- 12:59Speaker 2: I'll sing a part. You know, the voice memo thing
- 13:03Speaker 2: on your phone is might be the greatest thing ever
- 13:05Speaker 2: for a musician, so I can.
- 13:06Speaker 1: So I'll sing guitar parts in there, sing drum parts.
- 13:09Speaker 2: In there, and then come back later and do that
- 13:11Speaker 2: or and then maybe get something in my head after
- 13:14Speaker 2: writing the music part and start just doing melodies and
- 13:18Speaker 2: just go. I have hundreds of the ship I have
- 13:20Speaker 2: to go back. I have to label among But that's
- 13:22Speaker 2: the idea for that. That's oh I'll forget, you know
- 13:24Speaker 2: what I mean, and I'll go back and go that stuck,
- 13:26Speaker 2: so that's good, or that you got I mean. So
- 13:28Speaker 2: that's kind of how it happens. And a lot of
- 13:30Speaker 2: it's a bunch of mumbling. But and I have to
- 13:32Speaker 2: write lyrics later.
- 13:33Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, Colin, you're gonna be throwing those new
- 13:35Speaker 3: ones at asy area.
- 13:38Speaker 1: No we're not, I not.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I mean, we could do something, but it's you know
- 13:44Speaker 2: a couple of things you want to concentrate on.
- 13:46Speaker 1: You know, the fans.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I'll still hearing these songs that we have they've never
- 13:50Speaker 2: heard live before, you know, those those older songs that
- 13:54Speaker 2: people want to hear. We've gotten some feedback from fans
- 13:56Speaker 2: over there, songs they want to hear that we put
- 13:58Speaker 2: on you know, our.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Set lists and so.
- 14:01Speaker 2: And then also it's just you know that we don't
- 14:03Speaker 2: want to quite release anything new right now.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You know, we want to make sure it's all, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 1: because things are going to change when we mix them.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Down or whatever. You never know what can happen.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, so you were kind of don't want to play
- 14:15Speaker 2: a song and go oh shit completely changed you know me?
- 14:17Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, no, I'm sorry brother. Well thanks for
- 14:21Speaker 3: your time. A Demer will be here with El Nino
- 14:23Speaker 3: from September the twelfth, starting in Sydney. I'll be coming
- 14:26Speaker 3: along with the Brisbane show. Rather, let's say best to like,
- 14:28Speaker 3: I'll see you that.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, come find me man, we'll hang Out'll be fun.
