- 0:00A number of weeks ago, 3 or 4 weeks ago, I, I told you that as
- 0:05a church, our, our passion is to pursue the Christ and that is to
- 0:12be done in a way that, that honors the Lord.
- 0:15And so that that pursuit is to be done aggressively, not
- 0:22passively. And because our, our passion is
- 0:27to pursue him, our, our priority is to portray him.
- 0:34And that portrayal is to be done authentically, not
- 0:38hypocritically. And then we, we told you that
- 0:43our, our purpose is to proclaim the Christ and that is to be
- 0:48done authoritatively. But our practice is to praise
- 0:55the Christ, and that is to be done automatically.
- 1:01In other words, the Lord said Isaiah 23 or Isaiah 41 verse #23
- 1:08the people that I have formed for myself, they will declare my
- 1:14praise. In other words, praise is that
- 1:17which is automatically done by those whom Christ has formed for
- 1:23Himself. It's not something that you have
- 1:26to necessarily muster up. It's part of our spiritual DNA.
- 1:32And so we give praise and honor to God.
- 1:35And you always have to wonder what, what is our praise life
- 1:39like? This morning I want to talk to
- 1:42you about the people of praise. We're on this pathway.
- 1:47It's called the pathway of praise.
- 1:49We began with the privilege of praise, then we move to the
- 1:51prophet of praise. And today I want to talk to you
- 1:53about the people of praise. What are they like?
- 1:57What do they praise the Lord for?
- 2:02The expectation is in Hebrews 13 verse #15 which says through
- 2:07Him. Then let us continually OfferUp
- 2:13a sacrifice of praise to God. That is the fruit of lips that
- 2:18give thanks to His name. Through Him Christ is in us and
- 2:25we are in Christ. And yet through him, like we are
- 2:28to rejoice in the Lord, we are to give thanks through him by
- 2:34offering up a sacrifice of of praise, the fruit of our lips,
- 2:38which is giving thanks to God. And this is to be done
- 2:44continually. The psalmist said it this way in
- 2:47in Psalm Psalm 34. We said these words.
- 2:53Psalm 34, verse #1 I will bless the Lord at all times.
- 2:58His praise shall continually be in my mouth continually.
- 3:08Psalm 71, verse #6 He says by you I have been sustained from
- 3:15my birth. You are He who took me from my
- 3:19mother's womb. My praise is continually of You.
- 3:26I have become a marvel to many, for You are my strong refuge.
- 3:33My mouth is filled with Your praise and with Your glory all
- 3:39day long. In other words, because He
- 3:44continually praises the Lord, because his mouth is filled with
- 3:49the glory of the Lord all day long, He has become a marvel to
- 3:53all those who are around him. Because you see, for the most
- 3:59part, people just don't do that. But the psalmist did.
- 4:04He understood it. That's who we are.
- 4:09Listen to the words of Charles Spurgeon.
- 4:13He says these words. We are to offer the sacrifice of
- 4:17praise to God continually, because in so doing you will
- 4:21answer the end of your being. Every creature is happiest when
- 4:29it is doing what it is made for. A bird that is made to fly
- 4:35abroad Pines in a cage, an eagle would die in the water, even as
- 4:42a fish that is made to swim perishes on the river's bank.
- 4:47Christians are made to glorify God, and we are never in our
- 4:52element till we are praising him.
- 4:55The happiest moments you have ever spent were those in which
- 4:59you lost sight of everything inferior and bowed before
- 5:03Jehovah's throne of light with reverent joy and blissful
- 5:07praise. When your whole soul is full of
- 5:11praise, you have at last reached the goal that your heart is
- 5:16aiming at. Your ship is now in full sail,
- 5:21your car is on the tram lines. Your life moves smoothly and
- 5:26safely on. This is the groove along which
- 5:31it was made to slide. Before you were trying to do
- 5:35what you were not made to do, but now you are at home for the
- 5:41praise of God. Your new nature has fashioned
- 5:46and it finds its rest there in Keep to this work and do not
- 5:51degrade yourself by doing something less.
- 5:57So true. Why would we degrade ourselves
- 6:00by doing something less than praising God?
- 6:04Because that's what the people whom God has formed for himself
- 6:09have been created to do. And so we offer up continually
- 6:14praise to God. These Hebrew people in the book
- 6:18of Hebrews would be wondering if you want me to embrace the new
- 6:22covenant and forgo the old covenant.
- 6:26And then under the old covenant we are offering sacrifices day
- 6:29and night always to God. What kind of sacrifices will we
- 6:34offer under the new covenant? And so the writer of Hebrews
- 6:38answers that question by saying you will offer a sacrifice of
- 6:41praise to God. And it would be a great
- 6:44sacrifice for them because they were Hebrew people.
- 6:48And in so doing, they would be ousted from their homes, they
- 6:51would be ousted from the synagogue, they would be ousted
- 6:54from their friends. They'd be all alone.
- 6:57And when you give praise to God and give thanks to him for what
- 7:00he has done, because the shadow now is gone, because it's filled
- 7:04with the substance, all the ceremonies that you've engaged
- 7:08in have all been fulfilled by the one who came, the Messiah,
- 7:11Christ, and now you're praising him.
- 7:14It will be a great sacrifice for you to do that because your
- 7:19friends won't, your family won't, but you do.
- 7:24And that's a sacrifice you offer.
- 7:27You would go to the temple and you will offer sacrifices in the
- 7:30morning. You would go to the temple, You
- 7:32would offer sacrifices at night. But guess what?
- 7:34Your body now is the temple of the Holy Ghost of the Holy
- 7:38Spirit. And now you are the sanctuary,
- 7:42You are the holy place. And in that holy place you
- 7:46OfferUp a sacrifice of praise to God.
- 7:48And you do it continually because you are now priests in
- 7:52His Kingdom. You're priests in that temple,
- 7:56which is your body where you OfferUp sacrifices of praise and
- 8:00giving thanks to your God, and Satan doesn't want you to do
- 8:06that. The enemy will fight against
- 8:10your your praise. He he wants you to complain.
- 8:15He wants you to grumble. He wants you angry and bitter.
- 8:21He wants you to have an unforgiving spirit.
- 8:24He wants you just to never lift a voice of praise and
- 8:29Thanksgiving to God doesn't want you doing that.
- 8:33Isn't it interesting that in the Old Testament that the the the
- 8:36psalmist was always raising his hands in praise?
- 8:43The psalmist that this way in, in Psalm 63 verse #4 so I will
- 8:54bless you as long as I live. I will lift up my hands in your
- 8:59name. I will lift up my hands in your
- 9:05name. That is according to your
- 9:09person, You're the Messiah, you're the king.
- 9:14I will lift up my hands. And then the psalmist says these
- 9:19words in Psalm 119. He says, I shall lift up my
- 9:25hands to your commandments. So not only does a psalmist lift
- 9:31up his hands to the person of God, he lifts up his hands to
- 9:39the precepts of God. And then over in in Psalm 134,
- 9:50he says, behold, bless the Lord, all servants of the Lord who
- 9:55serve him by night in the House of the Lord, lift up your hands
- 10:00to the sanctuary and bless the Lord.
- 10:05So he lifts up his hands to the person of God.
- 10:10He lifts up his hands to the place of God, and he lifts up
- 10:18his hands to the precepts of God, but he can't lift up dirty
- 10:24hands. They have to be clean hands.
- 10:29The psalmist says in Psalm 24, verse #3 Who may ascend into the
- 10:35hill of the Lord, or who may stand in his holy place?
- 10:41He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted
- 10:46up his soul to falsehood and is not sworn deceitfully.
- 10:54In the Old Testament, the the the Hebrew people would lift
- 10:57their hands and praise to God, but they would only lift clean
- 11:02hands because clean hands represented a pure heart.
- 11:07And they would they would lift empty hands, not hands filled
- 11:12with something else. Why?
- 11:13Because their hands would be consecrated to God.
- 11:16Not just clean hands, but consecrated hands.
- 11:19Why? Because they're they're employed
- 11:21to be used in the service of God.
- 11:24And if my hands are holding something else, then my
- 11:27employment in the service of God will be hindered.
- 11:31So the hands are, are open, they're clean, and they're
- 11:33consecrated to God to be used by him in any way possible.
- 11:37And that's why they would, they would praise the place of God,
- 11:40they would praise the person of God, they would praise the
- 11:44precepts of God. Why?
- 11:46Because I'm here to be used by you, O Lord.
- 11:50So the writer of Hebrews comes along and says through him,
- 11:54through the Messiah, through the one who has fulfilled all the
- 11:58the shadows that were portrayed in the Old Testament, the
- 12:02substance has arrived. Let us OfferUp a a sacrifice of
- 12:07of praise to him. Let us offer thanks, the fruit
- 12:13of our lips, giving thanks to God for all that he has done,
- 12:18praising his glorious name. That's the people of praise.
- 12:24In fact, it's illustrated in in the book of Acts and you could
- 12:26read all throughout the book of Acts.
- 12:28But if you just go to Acts chapter chapter 2, it says these
- 12:32words verse 46 day by day continue one mind in the temple
- 12:37and breaking bread from house to house.
- 12:39They were taking their meals together with gladness and
- 12:42sincerity of heart, praising God, having favor with all the
- 12:46people, and the Lord was adding to their number day by day,
- 12:50those who are being saved, that that's just a great testimony.
- 12:55God was adding to their number because they were appraising
- 12:58people. God was adding to their number
- 13:01because they were doing what they were created to do that
- 13:05they were filled with praise in spite of the fact that this
- 13:08Jewish community in Jerusalem would be ousted because of the
- 13:12sacrifice of praise. But they didn't care.
- 13:15That was irrelevant to them. They had recognized all that God
- 13:18had done and they wanted to praise his glorious name.
- 13:21And God says, I'm going to add to your number daily because of
- 13:26your praise to me. Could it be that that we we
- 13:29hinder our family coming to Christ because we're not
- 13:33praising God as we should continually?
- 13:37They see in us a a downcast spirit.
- 13:39They see in us a bitter spirit. They see in us an angry spirit.
- 13:43They see in us a complaining, grumbling, mumbling spirit.
- 13:47And they're like, wow, that's just that.
- 13:48That's me. I do that.
- 13:51And yet they say they they, they worship the King.
- 13:54They say they're Christians, they say they love the Lord, but
- 13:58they don't live like they love the Lord.
- 13:59Because if you really love him, you'll praise him and honor him
- 14:02and glorify his blessed name. His praise will be continually
- 14:06on your lips all the day long, which would cause your family
- 14:12then to marvel as they did the Psalmist.
- 14:17Does your unsafe family marvel at the fact that you continually
- 14:22OfferUp a praise to God no matter what the situation, no
- 14:26matter what the circumstance, because you want to give thanks
- 14:29to his glorious name? Early church, they were a people
- 14:34of praise. You go to Acts chapter 3 and
- 14:38you've got the physically disabled man.
- 14:41He was disabled from birth from his mother's womb.
- 14:46And when Peter healed him, verse 8, with a leap, he stood upright
- 14:51and began to walk. And he entered the temple with
- 14:53them, walking and leaping and praising God.
- 14:56And all the people saw him walking and praising God, and
- 15:00they were taking note of him as being the one who used to sit at
- 15:04the beautiful gate of the temple to beg alms.
- 15:07And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had
- 15:11happened to him. Of course he would praise the
- 15:16Lord. He'd been lame from birth.
- 15:20And Peter healed him and everything changed his life.
- 15:25They began to leap and to praise and honor his God.
- 15:31And people wondered were filled with awe because of what God had
- 15:35done. But in Acts chapter 5 it says
- 15:42these words in verse 40. They took his advice, and after
- 15:47calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them
- 15:51not to speak in the name of Jesus and then release them.
- 15:55So they went on their way from the presence of the council,
- 15:58rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer
- 16:02shame for His name again. They, they would continually
- 16:08OfferUp a sacrifice of praise. They were told you can't speak
- 16:11in the name of Jesus anymore. But they, they kept doing that.
- 16:14So they flogged them. They flogged them.
- 16:18That that's, that's 29 lashes on the back and 10 on the front.
- 16:25They, they were cut to the quick and they were bleeding, but yet
- 16:28they rejoiced. Why?
- 16:30Because their praise was a sacrifice and they as priests in
- 16:35the the Kingdom of God, wanted to OfferUp their continual
- 16:39praise to God no matter what, because they had suffered for
- 16:43his namesake. And then over in Acts chapter
- 16:4716, you have Paul and Silas. They're in prison.
- 16:51It says in verse 22 these words. The crowd rose up together
- 16:55against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off
- 16:58of them, and proceeded to order them to be beaten with rods.
- 17:03When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into
- 17:06the prison, commanding the jailer to to guard them
- 17:09securely, and he, having received such a command, threw
- 17:13them into the inner prison and fasten their feet and stalks.
- 17:19But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing
- 17:23hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to
- 17:30them, and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the
- 17:34foundation of the prison house were shaking, and immediately
- 17:39all the doors were open and everyone's chains were
- 17:44unfastened. Instead of cursing God like
- 17:48everybody else in prison did, because they were in chains and
- 17:52were beaten with rods, instead of blaspheming the name of God
- 17:57and instead of complaining that that they were in prison, they
- 18:00began to pray and then sing praises to God, giving thanks to
- 18:06God, and everything changed from that standpoint.
- 18:10Now you see that the point is this, that so many times we are
- 18:13in the the chains of bitterness and the chains of stubbornness
- 18:17and the chains of selfishness and the chains of unforgiveness.
- 18:21Why? Because we refuse to give praise
- 18:24to God and we kept keep ourselves bound by those chains
- 18:29because we're unwilling to praise God for what he has done
- 18:33and what he's going to do. They had no idea that their
- 18:35chains would fall off. They had no idea they'd be
- 18:37released from prison. They had no idea that the jailer
- 18:40would be saved. They had no idea.
- 18:41They just knew that they had to offer continually a sacrifice of
- 18:45praise to their God. That's the people of praise.
- 18:49Those are those on the on the pathway to praise who recognize
- 18:53the fact that this is my sacrifice that I give to God
- 18:57continually, day after day, no matter the hardship, no matter
- 19:00the pain, no matter the difficulty, no matter the
- 19:03negative circumstances, I'm going to offer praise to God.
- 19:09So what do you say? What do you do?
- 19:13Let me give you 6 principles that will help you understand
- 19:17what you want to say when you give praise to God.
- 19:22Here's the first one. You need to always recite His
- 19:27wonderful works. You begin to praise him by
- 19:34reciting His wonderful works. Listen to Psalm 145.
- 19:41Let the let the Word of God speak for what it is.
- 19:46I would extol you, Oh my God, O King, I will bless your name
- 19:50forever and ever. Every day I will bless you.
- 19:53I will praise your name forever and ever.
- 19:55Great is the Lord and highly to be praised.
- 19:58His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise your
- 20:03works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.
- 20:09He's going to recite the the wonderful works of God.
- 20:13On the glorious splendor of Your majesty, on on your wonderful
- 20:17works, I will meditate. Men shall speak of the power of
- 20:20Your awesome acts, and I will tell if Your greatness.
- 20:24They will eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant
- 20:27goodness, and will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.
- 20:31The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and
- 20:35great in loving kindness. The Lord is good to all, and His
- 20:40mercies are over all His works. All your work shall give thanks
- 20:44to you, O Lord, and your godly ones will bless you.
- 20:50They shall speak of the glory of Your Kingdom and talk of your
- 20:54power to be known to the sons of men, Your mighty acts, and the
- 20:59glory of the majesty of Your Kingdom.
- 21:01Your Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and your dominion
- 21:04endures throughout all generations.
- 21:08He recites the wonderful works of God, He recites his
- 21:11greatness, He recites his glory, he recites his goodness, he
- 21:16recites his grace, he recites his government, and then he
- 21:21recites his generosity. He says this.
- 21:24The Lord sustains all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed
- 21:29down. The eyes of all look to you, and
- 21:34you give them their food. In due time you open your hand
- 21:39and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
- 21:43The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all his deeds.
- 21:48The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon
- 21:53Him in truth, He will fulfill the desire of those who fear
- 21:57Him. He will also hear their cry and
- 22:00will save them. The Lord keeps all who love him,
- 22:06but all the wicked. He will destroy.
- 22:09My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and all flesh will
- 22:15bless His holy name forever and ever.
- 22:18What a great Psalm, He says. Let me recite the works of God.
- 22:26Let me recite not just His goodness and His greatness, not
- 22:30just His government and His grace, but let me recite to you
- 22:34His generosity. Because this is the God who
- 22:39sustains the lowly. Here's, this is the God who
- 22:44satisfies their longings. This is the God who who saves
- 22:52the lost. This is the God who secures his
- 22:58loved ones. You.
- 23:01You praise him by reciting his wonderful works.
- 23:06That's why Psalm one O 6 is such as a sad a sad Psalm because in
- 23:13Psalm one O 6, they are continually forgetting all that
- 23:17God had said and all that God had done.
- 23:22It says in in Psalm one O 6 these words, they did not
- 23:27remember your abundant kindness. Verse 13, they quickly forgot
- 23:33your works. They did not wait for your
- 23:36counsel. Verse 21, they forgot God their
- 23:41Savior, who had done great things in Egypt so easily.
- 23:47We forget all the great things that God has done that that's
- 23:53why you spend time reading the Psalms, recognizing that the
- 23:57Psalms or the psalmist would recite the wonderful works of
- 24:00God. And that's where our praise
- 24:03begins. And once you recite the
- 24:06wonderful works of God, then you respond with thankful hearts.
- 24:13You respond with thankful hearts.
- 24:17He was 1315. You give thanks to his name.
- 24:21It says over in, in Psalm 63, Psalm 63, these beautiful words
- 24:32with a psalmist said these words.
- 24:37Psalm 63 verse #4 in fact, I'll begin with verse #3 because of
- 24:49your loving kindness is better than life.
- 24:51My lips will praise you so I will bless you as long as I
- 24:54live. I will lift up my hands in your
- 24:56name. My soul is satisfied as with
- 24:59Morrow and fatness, and my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.
- 25:05When I remember you on my bed, I meditate on you in the night
- 25:09watches for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your
- 25:15wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to you.
- 25:22Your right hand upholds me Over in Psalm 100, the psalmist said
- 25:31these words in verse #1 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the
- 25:36earth. Serve the Lord with gladness.
- 25:38Come before him with joyful singing.
- 25:41Know that the Lord Himself is God.
- 25:43It is He who has made us and not we ourselves.
- 25:45We are His people in the sheep of His pasture.
- 25:48Enter his gates with Thanksgiving, and his courts
- 25:51with praise. Give thanks to Him.
- 25:54Bless his name, for the Lord is good.
- 25:58His loving kindness is everlasting and His faithfulness
- 26:02to all generations. When you begin to recite the
- 26:07wonderful works of God, there's one response, and that's to
- 26:12respond with thankful hearts, Thanking and praising God for
- 26:18all that He's done #3 recognize His powerful hand.
- 26:28Recognize His powerful hand. Remember back in First Samuel
- 26:33chapter 2 where Hannah would give praise to God because the
- 26:41Lord had answered her prayer. The Lord had remembered her and
- 26:46opened her womb and gave her a son.
- 26:48Son's name would would be used by God in a mighty way, young
- 26:55Samuel. But she says in verse #1 She
- 26:59prayed and said, My heart exalts in the Lord.
- 27:02My horn or my strength is exalted in the Lord.
- 27:06My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, because I rejoice in
- 27:11your salvation. She said there is no one holy
- 27:15like the Lord. Indeed there is no one beside
- 27:18you, nor is there any rock like our God.
- 27:24Then she says these words in verse 6.
- 27:27The Lord kills and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol and
- 27:32raises up. The Lord makes poor and rich.
- 27:36He brings low. He also exalts.
- 27:40He raises the poor from the dust.
- 27:43He lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with
- 27:46nobles and inherit a seat of honor.
- 27:49For the pillars of the earth are the Lords, and He set the world
- 27:53on them. He keeps the feet of his godly
- 27:57ones, but the wicked ones are silenced in darkness, for not by
- 28:01might shall a man prevail. Those who are contented with, or
- 28:06those who contend with the Lord will be shattered against them.
- 28:10He will Thunder in the heavens, and the Lord would judge the
- 28:13ends of the earth, and He will give strength to his king, and
- 28:16would exalt the strength of his anointed.
- 28:21Hannah recognized that God's hand was over everything, that
- 28:25God. God kills and God saves.
- 28:31God raises up and God puts down. God makes a man rich, God makes
- 28:37a man poor. She recognized the mighty hand
- 28:40of God over everything. And so when you're praising God,
- 28:44you're recognizing his powerful hand.
- 28:46David did the exact same thing over in Second Samuel chapter 12
- 28:52after the sin with Bathsheba and the baby was born and, and, and
- 28:58the baby was going to die. God told him the baby was going
- 29:00to die. And David began to pray and and
- 29:02to fast. And it says in verse 18 it
- 29:08happened on the 7th day that the child died.
- 29:13Verse 19. But when David saw that his
- 29:16servants were whispering together, David perceived that
- 29:19the child was dead. So as David said to his
- 29:22servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
- 29:27So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and
- 29:33changed his clothes. And he came into the House of
- 29:36the Lord, and he worshipped, he offered a sacrifice of praise to
- 29:43his God. Then he came to his own house,
- 29:47and when he requested they set food before him and he ate.
- 29:50The servant said to him, What is this thing that you have done
- 29:55while the child was alive? You, you fasted and wept.
- 30:00But when the child died, you arose and ate food.
- 30:05And he said, while the child was still alive, I, I fasted and
- 30:08wept. For I said, Who knows, the Lord
- 30:11may be gracious to me that the child may live, but now that he
- 30:15has died, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again?
- 30:20I will go to him, but he will not return to me.
- 30:25Here is David recognizing the mighty hand of God, the powerful
- 30:29hand of God, and submitting to that that that strength of his
- 30:34hand, knowing that God was in control of the life of his Son.
- 30:41And when the Son died, he arose, He changed his clothes, and he
- 30:48worshipped You. Give praise to his God.
- 30:52Why? Because he recognized the
- 30:54powerful hand of God. And that's what the people of
- 30:58praise do. They recite his wonderful works,
- 31:02they respond with thankful hearts, and they recognize his
- 31:08powerful hand #4 here's a good one.
- 31:13They radiate with cheerful giving.
- 31:20They radiate with cheerful giving back.
- 31:27In First Chronicles, First Chronicles chapter 29, David had
- 31:40collected from the people of God and offering that would be used
- 31:47in the building materials for the temple.
- 31:52It says in verse #9 and First Chronicles 29 Then the people
- 31:56rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they
- 32:00made their offering to the Lord with a whole heart.
- 32:05And King David also rejoiced greatly.
- 32:11So David, bless the Lord in the sight of all the assembly.
- 32:14And David said, Blessed are you, O Lord God of Israel, our Father
- 32:19forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness
- 32:22and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty,
- 32:26indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth.
- 32:30Yours is a dominion, O Lord, and you exalt yourself as head over
- 32:37all. Both riches and honor come from
- 32:41you, and you rule over all. And in your hand is power and
- 32:47might, and it lies in your hand to make great and to strengthen
- 32:52everyone. Now, therefore, our God, we
- 32:55thank you and praise your glorious name.
- 33:01David knew that the people of Israel would give willfully.
- 33:06They would give liberally to the work of the Lord, and that would
- 33:11bring glory and honor to God. David, recite riches and honor
- 33:16come from you. We have what we have because of
- 33:19you, and therefore we give back to you that which you've already
- 33:23given to us. And they they would radiate with
- 33:26cheerful giving that that's what people of praise do, that
- 33:32there's this certain cheerfulness about giving.
- 33:37That's why in Second Corinthians Chapter 9, it says that the Lord
- 33:41loves a a cheerful giver. Why?
- 33:45Because the Lord wants you to give willingly and freely to
- 33:48him, not grudgingly, not bitterly, but because you
- 33:53recognize that he is the giver of all things.
- 33:57Listen, those who recognize that what they have is from the Lord
- 34:01are the ones who give the most back to the Lord.
- 34:06Those who do not recognize that what they have is from the Lord.
- 34:09They want to keep holding on to what they have as if they earned
- 34:12it, as if they were the ones who obtained it, as if they were the
- 34:15ones who worked hard for it. But it's God who makes 1 rich.
- 34:22It's God who makes 1 poor. It's God who gives to man, and
- 34:27therefore the people of God. They recognize that, and they
- 34:31radiate with cheerful giving because they recognize His
- 34:36powerful hand, and they respond with thankful hearts because
- 34:41they recite His wonderful works. Next, the people of praise
- 34:49remember his purposeful sacrifice.
- 34:54They remember His purposeful sacrifice.
- 35:00This morning we're going to partake of the Lord's table, and
- 35:04the Lord said, do this in remembrance of me and the people
- 35:12of praise. They remember the purpose behind
- 35:18this sacrifice, that it was for their welfare, their welfare,
- 35:22their well-being, their salvation, and so they remember
- 35:27Jesus Christ. 2nd 28 The Senate of David risen from the dead,
- 35:32which is my gospel. Paul said they give thanks into
- 35:36God for his indescribable gift. 2nd Corinthians 9 verse #15 They
- 35:42understand, as First Corinthians 1557 says, thanks be to God who
- 35:49gives us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- 35:53They remember His purposeful sacrifice, and #6 They rejoice
- 36:04in Worshipful Psalm. The people of praise rejoice in
- 36:12Worshipful song. Psalm 69 verse #30 I will praise
- 36:18the name of the Lord with Psalm. The Bible says in Psalm one O 4
- 36:29verse number 33, I will sing to the Lord as long as I live.
- 36:34I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
- 36:40Let my meditation be pleasing to him.
- 36:43As for me, I shall be glad in the Lord on the eve of the
- 36:50crucifixion, after they had celebrated the last Passover
- 37:00with the first Communion table, after our Lord had prayed His
- 37:06High priestly prayer. The Bible says in Matthew
- 37:11chapter 26 verse #30 after singing a hymn they went out to
- 37:21the mount of all of us. So they would gather together
- 37:28that one. Last night Christ would wash the
- 37:32disciples feet. He would give them instruction
- 37:36as to what was going to happen. He would pray with them for them
- 37:44and before they left the upper room they would sing a hymn.
- 37:51The question is which hymn did they sing?
- 37:57Well, the answer to that is that because it was Passover, they
- 38:01would sing the the six songs of the Hallel, which means to
- 38:05praise, and more than likely they would sing the last of the
- 38:12Psalms of Hallel. Psalm 118 and Psalm 118 begins
- 38:17this way. Give thanks to the Lord, for He
- 38:23is good. So here was our Lord leading
- 38:29them in a final hymn of praise before he's about to be
- 38:34sacrificed on Calvary's mount. And they sing Give thanks to the
- 38:41Lord, for he is good. In fact, the last verse of that
- 38:47same Psalm says Give thanks to the Lord for he is good.
- 38:53But right in the middle of that, these are the words of the sixth
- 38:59song of the halal, verse 21. The stone which the builders
- 39:05rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
- 39:12They were singing the praise that the Messiah of the stone
- 39:17would be rejected. And then it says this is the
- 39:22Lord's doing. It is marvelous in our eyes.
- 39:29What is the Lord's doing? The Lord's doing is that his Son
- 39:33would be rejected. The Lord's doing is that his Son
- 39:37would be crucified. For Isaiah 53 says it pleased
- 39:44the Lord to crush his Son. And then that very familiar
- 39:52verse, Psalm 119, or excuse me, Psalm 118 verse #24 this is the
- 39:58day which the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad.
- 40:07What day is that? It's the day of the crucifixion.
- 40:13We use that verse quite readily in the everyday conversation.
- 40:17Well, this is the day that the Lord has made, but particularly
- 40:21significantly. It speaks of one day.
- 40:25That was the day the the stone would be rejected.
- 40:31That would be the day that was marvelous in our Lord's eyes.
- 40:36That would be the day that the Lord has made, the day in which
- 40:40the Messiah would die. We will rejoice and be glad.
- 40:45And the Lord LED them in that last song of praise, knowing
- 40:52that he would make his way down the Kidron Valley, back up again
- 40:56and ascend unto the Mount of Olives.
- 40:59He would go there to pray. And it would be that night that
- 41:04he would be betrayed, be that night that the temple police,
- 41:08the temple guards, the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees would
- 41:12come to take him away to be beaten and crucified.
- 41:17That you and I might be saved. That's why we rejoice and be
- 41:23glad. Why?
- 41:25Because that's the day that the Lord made.
- 41:27He made that day. He was delivered up by the
- 41:31predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God.
- 41:37It was always the plan. And that's why, as our Lord LED
- 41:42them in a a song of praise, He would sing along with them.
- 41:49This day is marvelous in the Lord's eyes.
- 41:53For this is the day that the Lord has made.
- 41:56Let us rejoice and be glad. Why?
- 42:00Because the Lord is good and His long-suffering, His loving
- 42:07kindness is everlasting from generation to generation in the
- 42:15people of praise. Praise Him by rejoicing in
- 42:21worship for Saul. Let's pray together, Father.
- 42:25We thank you, Lord, for this morning and the reminder of the
- 42:29people of praise. This is who we are.
- 42:33This is what we do. We don't forget your wonderful
- 42:37works. We recite them, we remember
- 42:40them. We respond with a thankful
- 42:43heart. We are the ones who who radiate
- 42:50with cheerful giving. We are the ones who truly
- 42:55remember your sacrifice and rejoice knowing that we have the
- 43:02benefactors of Your great grace. As you partake at the Lord's
- 43:09table, help us never to forget what you did for us on Calvary's
- 43:15tree, that we might obtain eternal life in Jesus name,
- 43:24Amen.
