- 0:00Speaker 1: The socialist civil war is brewing for the Democratic Party.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Moderate House Democrats are warning they are prepared to fight
- 0:07Speaker 1: back if incoming Democratic Socialists try taking over their party. Hey,
- 0:11Speaker 1: we're to you, guys, they are.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Senior White House correspondent Jackie Heinrich joins us Live with
- 0:17Speaker 2: the details.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Good morning, Jackie, Hey, good morning guys. According to this
- 0:20Speaker 3: new report from Axios, a bunch of centrist House Democrats
- 0:24Speaker 3: are quote preparing for war if the new slate of
- 0:28Speaker 3: far left members who just won their Democratic primaries ultimately
- 0:32Speaker 3: end up joining their ranks in Congress and try to
- 0:34Speaker 3: hijack the House floor to extract ideological concessions. Thirteen House
- 0:39Speaker 3: Democratic members and candidates signed onto a Promise to America initiative.
- 0:43Speaker 3: They're pledging to stay true to centrist principles including capitalism
- 0:47Speaker 3: over socialism, fiscal discipline, strong borders, and pride in the
- 0:51Speaker 3: United States. Among them current House reps Tom Swazi, Adam Gray,
- 0:55Speaker 3: Laura Gillen, Don Davis, Kristin McDonald, Rivett, Josh Scott, Heeimer,
- 1:00Speaker 3: Maggie Goodlander, Janelle Binem, Vicente Gonzales, and Susie Lee. One
- 1:05Speaker 3: of these lawmakers told Axios quote there's going to be
- 1:08Speaker 3: war calling the incoming leftist members bomb throwers, not problem solvers.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Here's Tom Swazi.
- 1:17Speaker 4: As we said in our pledge, you know, we're for capitalism,
- 1:19Speaker 4: not socialism. We're for safety and not lawlessness. We're proud
- 1:22Speaker 4: of America, not ashamed of America. And we need to
- 1:25Speaker 4: be promoting those things. And you know, the far left
- 1:28Speaker 4: and the far right, you know, they're all very well organized.
- 1:30Speaker 4: But those of us that don't support those far left
- 1:33Speaker 4: or far right principles need to do a better job
- 1:36Speaker 4: organizing and getting our message out.
- 1:39Speaker 3: This comes after candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of
- 1:42Speaker 3: America defeated several well funded incumbents with the help of
- 1:45Speaker 3: endorsements from New York City Mayor Zorroon Mam Donnie. Fox's
- 1:49Speaker 3: Chad Pergram talked to Congressman John Larson about the fallout.
- 1:54Speaker 5: We'll see what are you talking about, angriss have to
- 1:56Speaker 5: do with elections in New York. The voters of New
- 1:58Speaker 5: York make up their own We don't control voters of
- 2:02Speaker 5: New York. In America and on a free democratic republic,
- 2:06Speaker 5: people get to choose their elective representatives. The people of
- 2:11Speaker 5: New York have made a decision.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And the result is widely expected to deliver the largest
- 2:16Speaker 3: far left coalition in history after the new candidates join
- 2:19Speaker 3: ranks with the current squad members in the House.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I believe in capitalism, so I'm not a socialist, so
- 2:26Speaker 2: I don't know whether that's an issue or not.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Look, I think what happens in New York City is
- 2:32Speaker 1: is sort of just what happens in New York City.
- 2:34Speaker 5: When we have the power, we're not afraid to use it.
- 2:39Speaker 3: The coalition could also pose a problem for House Minority
- 2:42Speaker 3: Leader Hakim Jeffries if Democrats end up taking a majority
- 2:46Speaker 3: in November and Jeffries tries to take the speaker's gabble.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Guys, Jackie, I don't have to tell you, it's not
- 2:51Speaker 1: just New York City. Graham Platner is a socialist. The
- 2:55Speaker 1: mayor of Seattle is a socialist. The congressman from Philadelphia
- 3:00Speaker 1: is a socialist. So for people to pretend it's just
- 3:03Speaker 1: a New York City thing you're in DC, they can't
- 3:06Speaker 1: be sincere, can they?
- 3:09Speaker 3: They might not be paying attention because, as you mentioned,
- 3:12Speaker 3: it is happening everywhere. And you know what better example
- 3:15Speaker 3: than the one you referenced in Maine Graham Plattner, who
- 3:18Speaker 3: has a lot of baggage that Democrats were willing to
- 3:21Speaker 3: look over all, you know, trying to just unsee Susan
- 3:26Speaker 3: Collins in the Senate, who is, by any measure, probably
- 3:29Speaker 3: one of the largest Republican checks on the president's agenda.
- 3:33Speaker 3: But despite her being you know, she voted to impeach him,
- 3:37Speaker 3: the Democrats don't see her as someone who is moderate enough,
- 3:40Speaker 3: and they want to go all the way to the left,
- 3:42Speaker 3: to the point where they will look over the Nazi tattoo,
- 3:46Speaker 3: the texting, and any number of other issues to launch
- 3:51Speaker 3: him into a position to unseat her.
- 3:53Speaker 1: All right, Jackie, thanks so much, Thank you, Jackie.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Well, the problem with the Democratic part is that there's
- 3:58Speaker 2: no real leadership. No one wants to speak with more clarity.
- 4:00Speaker 2: No one wants to check the socialist but John Fetterman,
- 4:03Speaker 2: but he's not the leadership, and they want to primary him.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Michigan Democrat Senator Alyssa slock And made a similar point.
- 4:10Speaker 6: Hereses, there is every single day a debate going on
- 4:16Speaker 6: in the Democratic Party. And for me, this is why
- 4:19Speaker 6: I'm a big believer in just new leadership, significant change.
- 4:26Speaker 6: The old models do not work for people, and that
- 4:29Speaker 6: includes in the Democratic Party. I think we have literally
- 4:34Speaker 6: found ourselves in a situation where we just don't have
- 4:37Speaker 6: people who understand the moment and understand what leadership means.
- 4:42Speaker 1: So, okay, you could say that, and she did win
- 4:44Speaker 1: by a handful of votes over somebody who's conservative and
- 4:50Speaker 1: in the congressman who is now running again in Michigan.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But when you look at who's running now in Michigan
- 5:00Speaker 1: for the to join her as junior senator, this guy
- 5:04Speaker 1: is Hassan l Abdul l Sid. This guy is as
- 5:09Speaker 1: left as it gets. He is a socialist, and he
- 5:11Speaker 1: got the endorsement of Senator Van Holland yesterday. So if
- 5:15Speaker 1: you are one of the leaders and establishment Democrats, you're
- 5:18Speaker 1: not one of the thirteen that you just interviewed before
- 5:21Speaker 1: with led by Tom Swasey and Laura Gill and Adam
- 5:24Speaker 1: Gray and all the others like Josh Gottheimer. You now
- 5:29Speaker 1: have the established senators going forward, socialists like Platiner. When
- 5:33Speaker 1: you have Platner, qu's got van Holland again, and then
- 5:35Speaker 1: you have this guy over in Michigan.
- 5:38Speaker 7: So it's rare to hear a Democrat say what. Alyssa
- 5:41Speaker 7: Slotkin said, they normally unite, they normally stick together. You
- 5:44Speaker 7: have a Nancy Pelosi, who's who at a time we
- 5:47Speaker 7: were saying, she doesn't agree with the squad, but she
- 5:49Speaker 7: has to make it look like they're all united because
- 5:51Speaker 7: they're all Democrats, and that's what Democrats are known to do.
- 5:54Speaker 7: And now they're all saying, hold on a minute, maybe
- 5:58Speaker 7: they need to have their own party. And James Carvel said,
- 6:01Speaker 7: he said, y'all go find your own party. Stop trying
- 6:04Speaker 7: to become Democrats, because you're really just using us for power.
- 6:08Speaker 7: You're not really a Democrat. It looks like America should
- 6:11Speaker 7: have three different parties now, the Republicans, the Democrats, and
- 6:14Speaker 7: then the socialists because they're trying to take over the
- 6:16Speaker 7: Democratic Party. But you have these moderates who don't know
- 6:19Speaker 7: where to go. And look at the swing states. You
- 6:21Speaker 7: have Michigan and Pennsylvania where there are socialists on the ballots.
- 6:25Speaker 7: One of them is who the guy you were talking about.
- 6:27Speaker 7: Abdul l sied he was the one who got caught.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Audio tape saying that some of his let's not talk
- 6:34Speaker 2: about the Supreme Leader being killed by the president of
- 6:38Speaker 2: the United States and Israel because some of our people
- 6:40Speaker 2: will be upset about right, right.
- 6:42Speaker 7: And then look at Pennsylvania. You have Chris rabb who's
- 6:44Speaker 7: running for Congress.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And look at the margin and victory that Donald Trump want.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Is this going to win a swing state?
- 6:49Speaker 7: Yeah, there's swing states, and Donald Trump he won in
- 6:52Speaker 7: these states, but by small margins.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I just think it's just funny that Alyssa Slockean talks
- 6:56Speaker 2: about leadership. She hasn't spoke that with more clarity against
- 6:59Speaker 2: this guy that's running in her state that is the
- 7:02Speaker 2: leading candidate. Leadership starts locally. Speak again, clean up your
- 7:06Speaker 2: own state before you start talking about national politics.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And by the way, if you're a leader, the thing
- 7:11Speaker 1: you're always wrestling with I want as many people in
- 7:14Speaker 1: the House as sent as possible. So if you go
- 7:16Speaker 1: that that's not what I believe, maybe you're breaking up
- 7:19Speaker 1: the tent. That's why the Freedom Caucus wasn't necessarily bilified
- 7:22Speaker 1: when they were in races by John Bahner and others.
