- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well, underneath the
- 0:08Speaker 1: insanity of the Iranian war that continues, we have now
- 0:11Speaker 1: struck more Iranian oil tankers. There's another conversation that's lingering
- 0:17Speaker 1: underneath it, and it's two different items I want to
- 0:20Speaker 1: bring to your attention at One Look Up Alex News
- 0:22Speaker 1: that I haven't gotten to yet. Firstly, did you see
- 0:27Speaker 1: that there was a piece of the ceiling that fell
- 0:29Speaker 1: down at the Kennedy Center amid heavy rains in D.C.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And that is a very important part to what I'm
- 0:35Speaker 1: about to talk about because just a month ago, the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Trump administration actually argued for the demolition in a court
- 0:47Speaker 1: filing of the beloved Kennedy Center and replacement with an
- 0:51Speaker 1: outdoor amphitheater if blocked from moving forward with a two-year
- 0:55Speaker 1: renovation and, oh, by the way, adding Trump's name to
- 0:59Speaker 1: the building. Lawyers representing the Department of Justice argued in
- 1:02Speaker 1: federal court that the arts complex is dangerously dilapidated, and unfortunately,
- 1:08Speaker 1: today's falling of the piece of tile from the ceiling
- 1:12Speaker 1: amidst heavy rains is probably an example of that, that
- 1:16Speaker 1: the arts complex is dangerously dilapidated and headed for a
- 1:20Speaker 1: financial and structural death spiral without Trump-backed restoration efforts. If
- 1:25Speaker 1: the building deteriorates past the point of repair, it might
- 1:28Speaker 1: be torn down.
- 1:30Speaker 2: But this looks like something.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Where the legal battle over Trump's name being up there
- 1:36Speaker 1: to begin with is what's driving the administration to say
- 1:41Speaker 1: what Trump wants to say, which is, ah, we've got
- 1:43Speaker 1: to tear it down or else I can put my
- 1:44Speaker 1: name up there. It's a tit-for-tat type of thing, but
- 1:51Speaker 1: it's an example, just like scaling back exercises with South
- 1:55Speaker 1: Korea is an example of, if you don't go my way,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you're going to be punished for it. And is that
- 2:01Speaker 1: the way we really want our White House to operate
- 2:04Speaker 1: moving forward? Look, I still believe, and I'll say this
- 2:08Speaker 1: on record, if the big RNC convention this week fails
- 2:14Speaker 1: in November with the midterms not going the GOP way,
- 2:18Speaker 1: if the big Iran war has not ended the way
- 2:26Speaker 1: that people want it to be, especially on the right,
- 2:28Speaker 1: which is, you know, I mean, think about this. They're
- 2:32Speaker 1: focused on demolishing the Kennedy Center, which is a beloved
- 2:37Speaker 1: art institution, but not wanting to demolish the Iranian regime completely.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I don't really understand that one. I know they're trying
- 2:46Speaker 2: to do pizza, but it's not working.
- 2:49Speaker 1: The proposed project, by the way, renovation is roughly $ 257
- 2:52Speaker 1: million to renovate the Kennedy Center. But If all of
- 3:00Speaker 1: that fails and they go after him again once they
- 3:04Speaker 1: get the House and Senate, do we think he's going
- 3:07Speaker 1: to resign?
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think he might.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But he's starting to lose it more and more. I mean,
- 3:13Speaker 1: the Kennedy demolition is one thing, okay?
- 3:15Speaker 2: But what about this? What about this headline, which I've
- 3:18Speaker 2: been meaning to talk about? Yosemite is not for sale.
- 3:22Speaker 2: That's right.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yosemite Park National Institution again. National Park. has been involved
- 3:33Speaker 1: in a proposed deal to develop a private road into Yosemite.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So Trump was going to sell off a bit of
- 3:42Speaker 1: our land, Yosemite National Park, for a private developer to
- 3:53Speaker 1: take control of a strip of land in the park
- 3:56Speaker 1: for an access road to the park's main attractions. Now,
- 4:00Speaker 1: California lawmakers have been a little wild with all their
- 4:03Speaker 1: different thought processes, and Bacara as governor, I don't know
- 4:08Speaker 1: how well that would turn out.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But anyway, Becerra.
- 4:13Speaker 1: But a group of California lawmakers, according to KQED.org, says
- 4:19Speaker 1: they call on federal officers to halt and reject a
- 4:22Speaker 1: proposed land exchange in Yosemite National Park. Imagine one of
- 4:27Speaker 1: our national parks having part of it sold off, sold
- 4:33Speaker 1: off for a strip of land in the park for
- 4:37Speaker 1: an access road to the park's main attractions.
- 4:39Speaker 2: The letter to the.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Department of Interior Secretary Doug Bergamo on Wednesday was signed
- 4:43Speaker 1: by a bar-priority group of 61 state legislators, led by
- 4:47Speaker 1: Assemblymember Greg Wallace, a Republican who represents Riverside and San Bernardino.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Republicans and Democrats from both houses of the legislature are
- 4:56Speaker 1: standing together because some things are bigger than politics, Wallace
- 5:00Speaker 1: said in his statement. Yosemite is not a subdivision, it's
- 5:03Speaker 1: not a bargaining chip, and it is not for sale.
- 5:06Speaker 2: A Republican's calling on the Trump administration to end this.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That's how bad it is.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Secretary Burgum and this administration should put an end to
- 5:14Speaker 1: this proposal. The proposed land exchange is counter to the
- 5:19Speaker 1: mission of the National Park Service and the founding of
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Yosemite in 1864.
- 5:24Speaker 2: 1864! 1864!
- 5:27Speaker 1: The group is saying, which set aside the state, the
- 5:30Speaker 1: start of the park for public use and protection for
- 5:32Speaker 1: the first time in the history of the federal government.
- 5:36Speaker 1: The letter writes, Our national parks belong equally to every American.
- 5:42Speaker 1: They are not the departments of trade away and they
- 5:44Speaker 1: are not for sale. Just like the Kennedy building, Kennedy
- 5:49Speaker 1: Center is not for demolition. The proposal was first reported
- 5:54Speaker 1: by news outlets Notice, which published a story last week
- 5:57Speaker 1: alleging that members of the Trump administration were meeting with
- 6:00Speaker 1: representatives of Kings Barn Realty Capital, a private equity group
- 6:05Speaker 1: that owns an 83-acre parcel next to the park.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Kings Barn's lawyer, Lanny J.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Davis, confirmed the group was pursuing land exchange to build
- 6:16Speaker 1: a new access road from its property to the park.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Previous owners had pushed for the same deal in the
- 6:24Speaker 2: 2000 and failed in court.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Assembly member of the state, Mark Berman of Menlo Park, Democrat,
- 6:36Speaker 1: says if the Trump administration can't defend this publicly in
- 6:39Speaker 1: broad daylight, then they shouldn't be doing it because it's indefensible.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And there's worry that there's not enough opposition among his
- 6:52Speaker 1: Republican colleagues in Congress to stop the administration's efforts. Well,
- 6:58Speaker 1: This is where I don't feel entirely Republican and entirely Democrat.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Because I'm willing to call out this nonsense of selling
- 7:07Speaker 1: off part of our national parkland for a road, of
- 7:12Speaker 1: demolishing the Kennedy Center because your name won't be put
- 7:15Speaker 1: on it, of scaling back exercise with South Korea because
- 7:20Speaker 1: they wouldn't support you in Iran. Meanwhile, Europe continually does
- 7:26Speaker 1: deal with Iran, by the way. I mean, that's just
- 7:29Speaker 1: a known fact. Are we going to stop supporting them too?
- 7:32Speaker 1: Although we kind of have in some ways. This eye
- 7:40Speaker 1: for an eye mentality is.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Going to ruin us. And I don't think anything would
- 7:44Speaker 2: have been a lot... I don't think things would have
- 7:46Speaker 2: been a ton better with Kamala either.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But this eye for an eye that we didn't see
- 7:55Speaker 1: in the first term, by the way, that we're seeing
- 7:57Speaker 1: more in the second term, is causing a lot of issues,
- 8:01Speaker 1: a lot of problems.
- 8:10Speaker 2: And it is going to be.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Something that will harm the Republicans in the midterms if,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, these stories keep coming out that they're trying
- 8:20Speaker 1: to demolish land, that they're trying to demolish a building,
- 8:26Speaker 1: a beloved building.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Such as the Kennedy Center, if they're trying to.
- 8:31Speaker 1: sell off some of Yosemite National Park, any national park,
- 8:33Speaker 1: it would be... indefensible as they write. It would be incorrigible.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It would be un-American.
- 8:39Speaker 2: It would be un-American to sell this land off. Are
- 8:42Speaker 2: you kidding me, Donald Trump and the Trump administration? Are
- 8:46Speaker 2: you kidding me right now? But... in some ways.
- 8:56Speaker 2: The evening out of this would be.
- 8:59Speaker 1: If the GOP lost the midterms. That's what I'm going
- 9:03Speaker 1: to say. The evening out of this would be if
- 9:05Speaker 1: the GOP lost the midterms. I've always said election day
- 9:14Speaker 1: is for the good of the country, and I've always
- 9:16Speaker 1: believed that, even back in 2020 when I voted for Biden.
- 9:20Speaker 1: That felt like for the good of the country. not
- 9:24Speaker 1: voting for either Harris or Trump personally felt like for
- 9:26Speaker 1: the good of the country. And in the midterms here,
- 9:33Speaker 1: for the good of country, although I do not like
- 9:36Speaker 1: some of the ideals that these DSA candidates and DSA
- 9:39Speaker 1: members have been spouting out, and especially the anti-Israel stuff,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and especially wiping their ass on the American flag with
- 9:47Speaker 1: the American flag.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I mean, what kind of rhetoric is that?
- 9:50Speaker 1: And saying it was someone who said 9-11 was deserved,
- 9:52Speaker 1: who What kind of rhetoric is that? And unfortunately, that's
- 9:57Speaker 1: what the Democrats have been saddled with here. And I
- 10:00Speaker 1: hope those candidates don't win for sure. But there has
- 10:06Speaker 1: to be a balance of power here in November. That's
- 10:11Speaker 1: the bottom line. There has to be. Or this train
- 10:17Speaker 1: will continue to go off the tracks a little more,
- 10:23Speaker 1: day by day.
- 10:25Speaker 2: So we had a good financial jobs report. Great.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But tell me about what's going on with the gas
- 10:33Speaker 1: prices that I see down the street for me at
- 10:35Speaker 1: $ 5 and change. Tell me about why people still feel
- 10:40Speaker 1: like they're working week to week to try and survive.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Answer those questions. And they just cannot.
- 10:53Speaker 1: And they're trying to maybe rightfully paint all these other
- 10:57Speaker 1: people as extremists.
- 10:58Speaker 2: But then I look at these things.
- 11:00Speaker 1: The deal being proposed to the Trump administration about selling
- 11:05Speaker 1: off some of the Yosemite.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Park for a strip of land. Or... Some....
- 11:17Speaker 1: Someone writing that they want to demolish the Kennedy Center
- 11:20Speaker 1: on behalf of the Trump administration. Those things have to
- 11:24Speaker 1: be corrected. Those mentalities have to be corrected. And I
- 11:31Speaker 1: don't know what it's going to take to correct those.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Because in the backdrop of all that, well, on the
- 11:38Speaker 1: forefront of all that, is a war that everybody just
- 11:42Speaker 1: cannot see ending. And that alone will cost the GOP
- 11:48Speaker 1: the midterms. And where do we go from there?
- 11:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:51Speaker 1: It'll be more impeachment situation. That's why I don't think
- 11:57Speaker 1: he'll stick around after midterms. I think he would resign,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I really believe that, if the GOP lost. And I
- 12:10Speaker 1: do sort of lean with my buddy Mert, my colleague Mert,
- 12:14Speaker 1: who said, I was shaking off last week that, you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: he's not playing to win the midterms. He's playing to
- 12:21Speaker 1: win his own agenda. And that's not American to me.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Is it to you? I pose that question to you
- 12:32Speaker 2: at One Look Up Alex Media.
